Haunted Library

A long time ago Ghostwriter and Phantom had some kind of rivalry with each other, the ghost was still upset with the halfa for sending him to prison while the halfa was still upset about being forced to celebrate christmas.

The ghosts watched them closely on days of truce, waiting for them to behave; the other days however, weren't their problem, so the rivalry just continued to grow.

Until eventually they got tired of fighting and made a deal of sorts, which ended with Danny opening a library in Gotham; It turns out that Ghostwriter had wanted to open one in the human world since a long time, but there were many things that prevented it, such as being human for example.

So yes, Danny ended up owning a giant library full of mini-portals to the Infinite Realms, Ghostwriter lectured him for hours on the proper handling of books, and while he didn't directly give out the originals there were plenty of copies of unpublished works, courtesy of the ghost personal library.

Danny doubted that people would pay much attention to such copies since those could be borrowed but not taken from the place or they would have an angry ghost haunting them.

Upon learning of the announcement of a new library the bats were suspicious, but they put it as a minimum priority. Noticing this, Jason couldn't help but take an interest and check it out for himself.

The place turned out to be excellent, albeit understaffed if you count the owner being the only one present managing everything, but the place was huge, Jason couldn't help but feel like a little kid in a candy store: this was so organised! the chairs were also comfortable! the atmosphere and decorations helped to feel relaxed too.

He cleared his throat in embarrassment at his own thoughts before heading to the Jane Austen section, gaping at the sight of copies of first editions and some books that hadn't even been published, how was that possible?

He looked at the owner but he only greeted him with a smile and decided to look away from him; In the end, he decided that this library would be his, perhaps not directly, but no one could approach such a sacred place with bad intentions. Not even the bats.

And as such, both Danny and an invisible Ghostwriter looked at Red Hood routinely coming in to read on some couch, no one else seemed concerned so they just let it be.

Danny was pretty sure he was the same guy who came to him in the morning asking for recommendations, the corrupted ectoplasm of him was a bit of a giveaway, but the guy was cute, so he just let it slide.

NEW IDEA

OK SO I have a theory on why Pariah Dark was only sealed away instead of killed, and no it’s not because he was too powerful too kill, and no it wasn’t because Danny is too merciful (although that last part be true).

It’s the same reason other ghosts are never said to die in their ghost form, they can’t.

Ghosts literally are the dead, there is nothing after this, they are already in their afterlives. Get a life-threatening wound? They’ve got no life to threaten. Chop their head off? It might take a while, but it’ll grow back onto their neck so long as the stitches don’t tear.

Tear them apart molecule by molecule? That might take longer to heal, but they’ll have to make do with floating around in pieces until it does.

Reinforcing this idea is the fact that Danny has canonically punched through an ectopus before (the specific episode escapes me). Why would he do such a thing unless he knew they would heal? He doesn’t strike me as the kind of person that would kill, not even his worst enemy.

Ghosts cannot die, but that doesn’t mean they cannot suffer. Every second they spend healing these terrible wounds they are in terrible agony, as they can feel the pain of a dying wound without the release of death to free them. This is why, despite their inability to die, ghosts still don’t want to be injured.

So get this then....what about halfas?

The show has canonically mentioned multiple times threats to end Danny’s life, by both ghosts and humans. Never has it mentioned that he will come back. I’ve heard a lot of people theorizing that when Danny dies again, he will simply turn into a full ghost.

But what if that’s not how it works?

Danny stands in the balance between life and death, a connection that has grown so strong that to separate one side of himself would kill the other. Separating the ghost will kill the human, but the REVERSE is also true. When the human dies...the spirit fades along with it. Since both of his forms are so connected, they cannot survive without the other.

Ever wonder why there are no other halfas? Because the very few times they happened in history besides the three in the show is because they died in both forms at the end of their human lifespans.

Halfas are proven to be much stronger than ghosts, demonstrated when Danny improves so quickly and beats ghosts HUNDREDS of years older than him. The price given for this power is a shortened lifespan, in both forms.

They will have it all in life, but lost it all in the end.

But, y'see, Darling Jazzy's worries about Damian are taken a lot more seriously than Tim's in canon

After all, she is also a child

They can't play the "He's younger, grow up" card on her

Damian only tries one more time and is stopped similarly

This time the shot barely misses an artery

Damian learns to respect the agents and adapts a lot faster to the new environment

Because it's made clear that attacking allies is u n a c c e p t a b l e

How did he find out about monster high and why is he a student there? What about his parents? Do they know? Did they decide to enroll him there so he'd be around similar kids his age? theres so much I wanna know to lol! There's just so many different fun ways to take it that it's kinda hard to decide ^^; Tho for my Half Normie AU I had kinda imagined everything is actually kickstarted by Tucker finding out he's a werewolf. Up until then everything's just kinda the same? Kicking ghost butt back into the GZ and struggling in school. Ya know the drill... sneaking suspicion I'm gonna make this long soo

Danny is a first-generation monster, as Ghosts tend to be(in monster high anyways) and did still get his powers from the portal accident! There isn't really any reason for him to fight or anything so now his powers are all just nifty little party tricks for the other ghouls to ooh and ah at.

He is also generally as unconnected from the Monster World as one would be in his case(I kinda think it'd be funny if his folks thought New Salem's Monster Inclusivity thing was some kinda tourist gimmick hoax. Similar to how outsiders think Amity Park is just some ridiculous Bit that the whole towns in on). Then ya add in how in the MHU(Monster High Universe hehe) its pretty well understood that most monsters have sorta formed their own independent communities away from each other, only really intermingling in big cities with large monster undergrounds. Such as fondly nicknamed Boo York, Hauntlywood, or New Goreleans etc. etc.

I just think it makes the most sense for Danny to be a lil blindsided by the concept. Takes a short lil moment to process, before being like "yeah that checks out"

It's really not until Tucker tells him about this school in New Salem that his parents are planning on sending him to because of his newfound wolfy appendages and whatnot. That Sam and him hear about this place. Sam is... undescribably mad about Not having a reason to transfer there too at first btw.

Which also! New Salem is in Oregon so like,,,,,, Gravity Falls??? no, Ya know what that's a different au for a different time

I'm not entirely sure how Danny winds up transferring there afterward, but the timeline I think vaguely goes as such:

One of Danny's Regulars(maybe Technus? I kinda think itd be cool if he becomes a teacher there later on) winds up at monster high and either Tucker calls up Danny or he had his own lil sneaking suspicion and followed on his own as well. And that whole hullabaloo is the ghoul squad's first introduction to Danny Phantom. (he does get asked if he's related to Operetta). There's like a whole drawn-out plot, probably, that I haven't exactly nailed down. Lots of running around keeping secrets from the ghouls and befriending monsters that just kinda Get It. Like Jackson and Operetta!

Eventually Headmistress Bloodgood and Jazz team up to just have him enrolled there, Jazz deals with the human side of things while Bloodgood gets him set up with a place to stay maybe? Do you think they'd just make him his own lil ghost portal to travel back and forth or would he just Live There Now? Cuz Monster High does also have a dormitory too. I think both.

I'm also thinking its prob like two years into being a Halfa for Danny so he's like 16. And the ghost activity in Amity Park has kinda found a rhythm and calmed down. Not as life-threatening. People know how to protect themselves, and hey! There's always Val and Danielle around at the least. Malevolent Spirits get a permaban from Monster High after the whole fiasco with the Red Lady literally kidnapping people to trap for all eternity in her Misery School.

Here’s a fun little scenario that would be part of a larger story I don’t have the time/energy to write.

Something something, the ghosts need to work together with the humans to stop a larger threat. They meet at Fentonworks to form a plan of attack with the humans’ most knowledgeable about ghosts. It is not Jack and Maddie Fenton. However, Danny Fenton and co do not feel like disclosing the fact that they are Amity’s foremost ghost experts. So the ghosts find themselves in an awkward position of having to pretend to be seeking council from the adult Fentons while watching Danny pretend to hide in his mother’s side in fear. But though his posture is scared and submissive, his eyes are glowing with promise of a violent second death if they don’t play along. Cue shenanigans. Fun points of interest include:

- Danny and the ghosts’ frustration and disbelief as the Fentons or even Valerie get ghost stuff so completely wrong and Danny is literally biting his hand to stop himself from correcting them because he’s not supposed to know anything about ghosts. They look at him with weary annoyance, asking why he is making them submit to this and he just stares back equally annoyed and exhausted.

- The ghosts and Team Phantom need to do their planning in secret so they steal snatches of time here and there with hilarious results. Danny quickly phasing him and Technus into the bathroom for a quick huddle only to be interrupted by Jack trying to get in or quickly miming ideas and plans when people’s heads are turned then pretending to play on his phone when they look his way (his phone is upside down, no one comments. Fenton is just weird like that). They barely get any time to plan without interruption.

- It gets to the point where nothing is getting done and Danny is forced to kind of intercede but in a casual manner. Making pointed comments to have people piece things together themselves, tripping over important inventions to bring them to people’s attention just... pretending to accidentally acquire knowledge and delicately (and sometimes forcefully) leading them to the correct conclusions.

- I bet there would be some interesting conversations btw the ghosts and Danny about why he does hide. Why does he hide his strength and knowledge? They know by now that Danny is protective of hell of his secret identity but ghosts simply cannot understand why one of the strongest warriors hides behind the façade of weakness. Sometimes Danny himself wants to give up the charade bc the whole thing is too damn confusing and exhausting.

- Danny is not used to his worlds colliding in such an ongoing, intimate setting (lets say both ghosts and humans are essentially trapped together) so his personality is constantly flipping btw Fenton and Phantom’s trying to keep up. Dash is confused watching Fenton growl at ghosts while the ghosts are wondering why such a powerful halfa lets the other humans push him around. It makes both human and ghosts realize they don’t much at all about Danny Fenton.

- A lot of ghosts’ knowledge of humans comes from Danny, Sam and Tucker who are, obviously, outliers. In order to play nice with the ghost kid, they try to engage with some humans and are so far from the mark. (For example just kind of assuming all human kids engage in reckless, world changing activities).

- Also the ghosts know Danny and generally have a lot of respect for his power and sense of duty to his haunt. They treat other humans the same, as annoying interchangeable non-entities almost but for some reason, Danny Fenton is given a weird amount of respect being referred to by name and, when he speaks, all the other ghosts stop and listen. Normal people have no idea what to make of this.

- Again, I simply cannot get over the image of Danny doing his best to cower with his back to the humans but while facing the ghosts his face is a snarling, threatening mess. Both sides treat him as they normally do and find themselves coming up short. The humans wonder why the ghosts look at skinny, useless Fenton like he’s important. The ghosts wonder how the humans look at him and don’t see something dangerous.

#danny phantom #I have so many hcs that I have under this large umbrella of 'very long chaptered fic I'll never write'#just the idea of the ghosts and humans partnering up (think along teh lines of reign storm but with all of amity)#and being forced to sort of coexist for a time #Danny who essentailly lives two different lives is forced to compromise both of them to survive #he's bolder to the humans but quieter to the ghosts #both sides need to realize that theres more to the kid than they thought #also just J&M assuming they're the ghosts experts #not knowing all the ghosts are politely wiating for them to finish their inaccurate bigoted speech #so they can sneak off with their son and do some REAL planning #Its funny but also a bit sad to devote your whole life to something and the culmination of your expertise is to ignored #and the ghosts are only semi polite about it bc theyre lowkey scared of Danny who will rip them into another afterlife #if they hurt/demean his parents or hint about his secret #just... interesting thoughts Ive been batting around in my head for a bit #like a cat toying with a ball of yarn #just teasing it but not sinking my lil gremlin teeth into it

My Rewatch Notes :)

Hiiiiii guys!

I know everyone’s been doing their own rewatch and I’m sure none of the things I’ll write here will be news but I just thought I would share a few things I noticed as I watched everything. I think It’s actually my first COMPLETE rewatch, I freaking loved it. I just finished it and I’m in tears. BUT I did take some notes and commented on them here, so here goes nothing. LOL

SEASON 1

I love how when Jon claims he’s not a Stark, he finds his direwolf which is the ultimate proof yuup he is one.

The fact that Robert threatens Ned with the very things Joffrey does after? Damn, this show is cruel.

Maester Aemon’s words tends to stay with Jon and I bet your ass he will think back to Maester Aemon’s words on how honor is nothing compared to the love of a family. He thought Ned would always choose honor because he always did the right thing, yet he compromised his honor for Jon, which Jon thought he would neeeever…I know he’ll be upset at first but have you ever considered how deeply this will strike him? How he will realize he’s been deeply loved this entire time?

SEASON 2

Was not a bad season, actually it was a very good one but I didn’t take many notes here, sorry.

But we cannot avoid mentioning the House of the Undying, Dany does not touch the throne and goes to what it looks like the Wall. Do notice that when she’s in the throne room, The Red Keep seems to be destroyed. Not like it was in s7, but maybe how it will be in s8? But she does change her course to go to what her heart’s desire, love, family. She is so happy to see her former husband and her baby, but she leaves them because she knows they’re not real. The dragons call her and she returns to them, it doesn’t mean she’ll never get to the throne room again or that she will never rule, it means that had other priorities at some point, but her children reminded her of reality and she went back for them. I’m saying this because people love to use this as a foreshadowing for her not becoming a Queen. So if you’re going there, I am as well.

SEASON 3

Arya telling Gendry he can be her family is a total foreshadowing to me and no one will ever change my mind but you are allowed to rub it in my face if s8 ends and they’re not together, although you’ll be making fun of a sad shipper.

Littlefinger actually describes many of the upcoming deaths as he speaks to Sweetrobin, I nearly fell off my chair the moment I realized that one LOL SO FREAKING CLEVER, It’s one of the reasons why I love this show.

SEASON 4

Tyrion’s speech at his trial is one of the best scenes of the entire show. Of any character! That’s it, thanks for coming to season 4 and my ted talk.

SEASON 5

Tyrion asks Ser Jorah when will they go back to build cities like Valyria, I thought: “Hmmmmmm, maybe a hope for the future? Nothing is said without a reason at this amazing show.”

I really hope Jaime saying he wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves does not mean that I get to see Jaime dying in Brienne’s arms. Or else there’ll be tears. LOADS. Like hours of it.

This one is nothing new, I just wanted to point out that Jon refused a beautiful woman like Melisandre because he was still in love with Ygritte, yet…he slept with Daenerys. Y’all know where I’m going with this but I just would not miss the opportunity to point it out! :D

It’s pretty obvious by now, but I loved how Sam assured Olly that Jon always comes back, maybe this was a foreshadowing for only S6E2, but who knows, for s8? A fangirl can dream.

SEASON 6

Theon says he will never be able to make amends for the things that he’s done for the Starks, maybe he will…in s8? I know he’s saved Sansa and that’s a good way to redeem yourself, but he was partially to blame for Robb and Catelyn’s deaths (he betrayed and weakened Robb’s campaign), Rickon’s as well since he only ends up where he did because he escaped Theon in the first place. Maybe this is how he goes? If he does at all, I mean. Maybe he either saves Bran or Sansa? Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Tommen tells Cersei all the things he should have done to the High Sparrow, and some of those stuff like killing the man and destroying the Sept, our Mad Queen actually does, so I thought that was actually a clever and discreet one.

Olenna tells Cersei she’s alone, surrounded by thousands of enemies, left by her brother and all the family she had. She asks Cersei what would she do, kill everyone? Well, I bet she’ll try at some point in s8, and I though this sounded like a proper foreshadowing. I’ll let you guys decide for yourselves.

Is it just me or we get to the see the face the Waif wears as she attack Arya on the bridge when she first meets the Hall of Faces?

Arya deciding who she is, yup, I cried AGAIN.

One of my biggest problems with Sansa was her behavior towards the Battle of the Bastards, she could have saved maaaaany lives just by saying a few words. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and mine of her changed after 6.09, not gonna lie.

Sansa murdering Ramsay was probably one of my favoirte Sansa moments of all show.

SEASON 7

Arya amazingly starts the season with the beeeeautiful words: “leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe.”, right? Well, next episode Olenna clears things up telling Danny is no sheep, she’s a dragon, therefore to be a dragon. If Dany is no sheep, then a diehard fan can assume she’s safe? Or not and just ignore me LOL

Jaime being told Cersei will be the death of him by Olenna kind of breaks my heart because fuck she will :( That’s a sad but accurate foreshadowing to me, honestly. PLUS: ‘TELL CERSEI, I WANT HER TO KNOW IT WAS ME’ will always be one of the best quotes in Game of Thrones!

Jon punching Littlefinger has nothing to do with him being in love with Sansa, he’s protecting the sister he knows been through enough shit, especially when it comes to men. Sorry to burst some shippers bubble.

Melisandre letting us know Varys and her will be killed this season, WAY TO SPOILER THE SHOW, bitch. LOL

WHY THE FUCK WOULD THE HOUND THROW STONES AT THESE BITCHES? Sandor, bitch, I expected more from you.

Drogon is so close to the NK, and Rhaegal is not far behind, why would he attack Viserion? Maybe because he knows something we don’t and I’m eager to learn. It’s not a foreshadowing, just a questioning.

The way Rhaegal cries in the back as Jon gets pissed and attacks it’s almost as if we’re seeing the physical manifestation of his pain, it’s his pure connection to his Targaryen blood. That scene is amazing and I don’t have words to say how this “little” thing affected me.

The way everyone is shocked beyond words when Viserion dies is amazing, nothing is deadlier than dragons in the world of Ice and Fire, and for them to see a mighty creature as a dragon to be murder by this villain, shows them how helpless they are and how serious the threat is, if a dragon is not invincible, what does that make them? If a dragon can be killed, anyone else can as well. It’s a short moment but one that says a lot to me. Powerful af.

ONE WORD: CLEGANEBOWL.

“Jon is young and unmarried. Daenerys is young and unmarried…together they would be difficult to defeat.” I would love to take that as a foreshadowing, so keep it mind, Cersei and everyone else out for my babes.

BTW, can we talk about Ser Jorah’s ‘fuck me’ face when Dany tells that she and Jon will sail together, AND YOU CAN SEE THE HIDDEN MISCHIEF IN JON’S EYES! LOL I live for that.

Jon telling Theon how he does not have to choose, that he’s both a Greyjoy and a Stark is a delicious foreshadowing to me on how he’ll come in terms with his own parentage reveal in time, he’ll see that he is not only a Stark and a Targaryen but also a Snow, and for him to somehow be in peace with it. I can’t wait, honestly.

I think it makes sense that Arya and Sansa won’t like Dany at first, Daenerys is beautiful and charming, they will think Jon is in love or smt, I mean…can you blame them for being wary of anyone outside their family? But I bet all of your asses that in time, they’ll see Dany for what she truly is, not just worthy, but family as well. That line at the end of 7.06 between Dany and Jon could very well mean this! :)

So, just to point out a thought: Jaime and Cersei’s child will not be born and the dead will probably come South. UGH, season 8 cannot come soon enough!

“He loved her...and she loved him.” But sure, political!j0n

In a season that defines identities, such as Arya with her ‘Home’ theme, Bran claiming to be the Three Eyed Raven and not Bran anymore, Sansa to be totally comfortable with her place as Lady of Winterfell… Jon leaves Winterfell and goes to Dragonstone (to seek dragonglass but we know what he finds…love, and we find his identity). Not to mention he finishes the season going back to Winterfell, but also with the promise of going back South again to fight for Dany. If that’s not a claim on his identity, IDK WHAT IS.

It's hardly a final project for a degree or masters but I thought it was worth writing down a few things that caught my attention. Whatever I did not write, I was probably either too lazy or too comfortable lying down to take notes.

to avoid extreme spam of anyone brave enough to follow me, i’m putting all of my 9.12 thoughts in one post. tl;dr: i loved it.

the (much, much) longer version:

the “previously on” starts with scenes from episode three or four of season one oh gosh

THIS IS A GRACE HIGHLIGHTS REEL. I’M ALREADY EMOTIONAL

first question of the night: rachel wakes up and finds that grace didn’t come home so she jumps in the car and races to danny’s, but where did she leave charlie in the middle of the night??? i’m assuming he was with her

i’ve already seen this very first bit in one of the previews but still: grace was driving a car that stan bought her two weeks ago and that DIDN’T HAVE PLATES YET and nobody told danny. there are so many things wrong with that

these actors are both so good in their despair though. the opening credits are just now starting and my heart has already been squeezed to a pulp???

steve!!! the very first thing we see after the credits is steve, sick with worry, half running into the hospital and speeding up when he sees danny to wrap him in a hug. he does this little hop thing?? that kills me??

so steve squeezes danny (and it kind of looks a little like danny was going for a handshake bro hug thing but steve just bulldozered over him and gave him the real hug they should be having? good steve) and then he rushes to rachel to hug her too, like a matter of course. i like that

oh noooo. the other girl’s dad turns up and blames he crash on grace (understandable under the circumstances but not helpful in the least) and as soon as steve realizes what’s happening he steps over to situate himself in between this guy and danny??? i love steve so much gosh

duke turns up with critical info and he tells steve about it??? not danny or rachel, and admittedly he maybe has a stronger bond with steve i guess but at least danny he definitely knows pretty well too (they’re ohana too, right?) but he tells steve about what’s technically danny’s daughter and there’s so many things to be read into that (the main thing obviously being that steve is as good as grace’s parent too and it’s canon fdjkfdjk)

i’m five minutes in at this point and i already have this much commentary. this is going to be long

i think i’ve said this before but: it’s not necessarily bad that stan bought grace a car. it’s not bad either that rachel didn’t tell danny, but if what rachel says and it’s because grace wanted to tell danny herself, then rachel should have put her foot down and not let grace go out with the car (that didn’t have plates yet??? that can’t be legal right?) until grace had actually told danny about it!!! rachel just doesn’t learn from her past mistakes about not telling danny shit about their kids that danny DEFINITELY should have been told and it’s a believable character flaw but it’s so painful

“there’s all kinds of things that happen that you should’ve told me about that you don’t tell me about, i’m used to it, alright? i’m used to it.” danny fucking knows and this is honestly the number one reason why romantic danny/rachel can’t ever work again as far as i’m concerned because it would be built on so much resentment and pain and pure shit that it’s just too much to put behind you, because they won’t ever be able to fully, completely trust each other again (and not all of it would be rachel’s fault, btw, i’m not saying that - it’s just that when she fucks up, she fucks up big time)

“i’m a cop now. i’ll keep it professional.” [cut to tani pushing her suspect out of his chair and onto the floor] well, you know, she’s got a point there. that’s exactly what professional looks like to five-0 (i like this secondary plotline a lot though! tani as protective and slightly violent older sister is super interesting)

danny is calling steve to update him even though there’s barely any knews because steve deserves to know everything (and probably because danny’s wants to hear his voice, lbr) and it’s good

this phone call between tani and junior is also super sweet!! (though it does kind of add obvious fuel to the fire of parallels they’re drawing between tani&junior and danny&steve, whether that’s something you like or not)

the whole team is so concerned about danny and of course they are but it’s still really good to see!!

of course grace can’t just get in a car accident, it has to be some kind of a crime. (i don’t even really mind but it’s just so predictable, gosh. they need someone to blame)

kamekona and flippa are bringing food to the hospital!!! that’s so thoughtful!

charlie! he exists in this episode! i’m still slightly fuzzy on where he was all night (because noelani comes in with him but the way she then asks charlie if he wants to hang out doesn’t seem like he’s been with her this whole time, so where the hell was he?) but it’s good to see him now, at least

danny had noelani bring some stuff for rachel which is good and kind but the sweatshirt thing makes me... a little concerned... about romantic connotations. but i’m stubbornly deciding to read this as a purely platonic gesture to help out a sort-of-friend/co-parent

OOPS steve calls because they located a phone that grace received a threatening text message from at the hospital, but is leading danny to this person really a good idea right now? oh gosh

I KNOW that grace is going to be okay because she’ll be in the next episode, eating pancakes at danny’s and laughing with steve, but i’m STILL almost crying watching danny and rachel wait with all this sickening tension without knowing anything and then watching them rush to get some news only to hear there’s been a complication and all they can do, AGAIN, is wait more

it’s GOOD but it’s SO PAINFUL

steve, junior and lou watch a security tape of zippy’s where some creepy guy keeps coming up to grace and katie’s table and then grace gets up and clearly tells the guy to go away and a) that’s really good on its own but also b) steve’s proud “atta girl”!!! yes!!!

danny apologizes for being mean about the car, holy shit. and yes, he was a little mean, maybe, but he was also incredibly stressed and he had a right to be angry, god.

“i should have been more honest with you. about a lot of things.” at least rachel had realized that much, omg.

rachel is playing the “what if” game and danny tells her that she shouldn’t and it’s actually a really nice moment. i like this.

THAT VIDEO. and both rachel and danny just crying and crying and the mutual forehead kisses and comfort??? i think i’ve made it pretty clear that i don’t ever want romantic danny/rachel again but this? i LOVE this. they can’t be a couple but they can still be a team and family in this weird way through their kids.

danny is just sitting on the floor in a hallway now and steve finds him and sits down next to him before they even say a single word and i’m already swamped with feelings just from that. i’m easy like that djfdkjf

steve says that grace is really taking after danny by going after bullies and standing up for the little guy and danny says “i think maybe she gets that from you more than me” anD I AM DECEASED. RIP ME. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HANDLE THESE FAMILY FEELS??

i’m not going to quote their entire conversation about steve being in more of grace’s pictures than danny and steve saying they should throw grace a big graduation party in steve’s backyard and danny actually smiling about something but i COULD because this is EVERYTHING I EVER WANT.

rachel finds them with the news that grace is OKAY and FUCK YES but also???? danny and steve’s expressions of relief???? are the exact same??????? and then there’s THAT ONE HUG that involves danny and rachel and steve, all three of them, and at this point literally nobody can convince me that steve isn’t as much a parent to grace as either of these other two

ALSO. LET ME JUST TALK ABOUT THAT HUG FOR A BIT. danny and rachel fall into each other’s arms because duh, at this point, of course you’d hug, and danny kind of swings them around a bit and then REACHES FOR STEVE who’s standing there right next to them with his hands on his hips and just DIVES into it and rachel makes room for him too? and then they’re CLINGING TO EACH OTHER and steve has closed his eyes and wrapped himself around them and he has his chin on danny’s shoulder and danny is smushed between them and have i given of the vibe that I LOVE THIS yet because I DO

grace! we get to see grace in color for the first time this episode!

there’s a party for grace at danny’s home!!! and danny says he didn’t know about it and i’m leaning towards believing him because i can easily be 100% convinced that this was steve’s doing oh gosh

OH NO. yep i was bracing for this already because i’d seen enough people talking about this, but i’m at the end, with danny and rachel outside at a small table and danny brings her some food they ate at their first date and she points that out and he says that it’s on the menu because it was their first date meal and, uhhhh, no. nope. don’t do that, come on, guys, what the fuck

alright, so yes, there are pretty undeniable flirting vibes here, but i’m stubborn. i’m still going to deny them. i’m going to view this as a happy end where danny and rachel have been brought a little closer together as divorced parents of two kids and where they can share a moment again without it devolving into a fight and i’m choosing to let that be all it is. and steve’s look and smile at them? that would honestly be out of character if it was supposed to be “oh i’m happy that danny might be getting back together with his ex-wife” so obviously i’m going to interpret that as “oh i’m happy that danny and rachel seem to be getting along platonically because that’ll make danny and grace and charlie’s life easier”

okay, now that i’ve seen all of it, two things:

what happened to katie??? she was just as bad off as grace from what we heard but we never got to hear if she was alright??? and the thing with her dad was never resolved either???

MELISSA. remember, danny’s girlfriend??? i’m about 99.9% sure we never heard that she and danny broke up, unless i missed something, and i don’t think i did. so. what the fuck are we supposed to think there? i’m not certain they’ve mentioned her once this season but at the same time danny was definitely teasing steve about his lack of dates in 9.01 and that was a prime opportunity for steve to say something, anything, to danny about danny’s dating life as a comeback, but they didn’t take that chance so at that time i assumed he was still with melissa. but? now they seem to be doing this thing with rachel? and melissa has been forgotten? i see people in the fandom say that danny is single all the time and i get it because at this point it’s an assumption that makes sense, with how little melissa has been mentioned for seasons now, but we’ve never gotten confirmation of that and it bugs the hell out of me because she’s a character that supposedly played a big role in his life at one point and she was in multiple episodes and now they don’t even have the time for like, one line of dialogue that somehow tells us what’s what? the complete irony here is that i never really liked danny and melissa’s relationship (she is so young for him, and that’s just the start of it) and now i sound like i’m defending it when really i just don’t want this poor woman to be treated so ridiculously. i swear i’m going to file a missing persons report omfg where is melissa #melissadeservedbetter

aside from my bitterness about melissa though - i LOVED this episode. it was tense and painful and i’m as concerned about the danny/rachel hints as the next guy, but it’s not that explicit here and i do like seeing them together as friends so i’m good with it for the most part for now? and there was SUCH good dad!steve content and some amazing steve/danny and the steve-danny-rachel hug killed me as much as i’d hoped and there was a steve and danny hug and a steve and grace hug and the sideplot was great too and i loved seeing tani and koah together more, and i just??? really loved almost every second of it a lot

H50 9.02 - Steve’s Oath

It’s this one scene that won’t let me rest. It’s always there, at the back of my head, poking, nudging my thoughts. After I’ve watched the episode last Friday I was all in to write another one-shot with Steve’s thoughts, but it would have eaten up too much time and because I’m busy with other writing on my to-do list I’ll go with a post on Tumblr. I try to explain what keeps my mind busy after I watched this scene with Steve and Greer in the interrogation room for a second and a third time.

During all the episodes of the last eight seasons, I’ve never experienced this special feeling that has been stirred to life watching this one scene, watching Steve and his reaction when Greer talks to him about her reasons why she has chosen another way, to regroup with the enemy. It’s nothing new to Steve to deal with people who have turned their back on their belief and their oath but this talk shifted something in Steve’s soul.

In a former episode Steve talked about his country, his America he as given the oath to serve and to protect. He was referring to it as she/her - “You swore to protect her and defend her.” Something like that. It’s always a moving moment to listen to Steve when he talks about his country he would give his life to protect. And America isn’t just a country to Steve, no, it’s a purpose to live for. To serve is in his bones, it’s something ancient that buzzes hidden but rhythmically in Steve’s cells and pulses through his whole body. It’s in his genes. (I dare to dramatically emphasize it like that.)

I’ve spent a lot of time to ponder about Steve and his dedication to being a servant for his mother country. And I try to catch this spark, this notion which is there but so very difficult to form into words. I never will fully understand what goads Steve to freely hand over his heart and his soul and serve as a SEAL. I’m not good at Military stuff and all the Navy and Naval intelligence information, ranks and what comes with all the education. But I’m good at reading people and I’m good with emotions. I try to make my explanation work.

I dare to say that nobody, not even Danny, nobody but Steve’s SEAL buddies know and understand what moves Steve when it comes to America and his duty to protect her. Freddie Heart was in tune with the same dedication. Steve’s motivation could be compared to the knight of the blackboard serving their king, King Arthur.

The oath Steve has sworn stays above everything else - and I mean everything. This oath has this touch of divinity and I also dare to say, that the attitude, this inner need, which forces Steve to make such a choice is the glue that holds Steve’s soul together. (And I don’t know if Steve had had the choice to be a SEAL without being sent away if he had made that choice and if he had followed that path - a whole other thread to talk about.) It’s in his genes to bow to such a task in the way he does.

To be a servant needs humbleness, it needs a pureness of a kind that’s very rare. There is loyalty and honestly and never ever is there a rear exit and a chance to change the mind. It’s not about what they choose, this is about what they are - what Steve is.

I’ve read the Artus Trilogy by Gillian Bradshaw (one of the best ever) and there is Gawain (he reminds me of Steve) - and he stole my heart. His story moved me beyond words and the love he has for his king is so big, that I won’t find the right words to describe what drives him closer and closer to King Arthur, with this single aim, this intense wish: to be a knight for his king, to present him his life and to fight for him, to die for him. I’ve never found more accurate words which are able to describe this dedication, to paint the undying love with words, to let me feel this everlasting and divine love, this fearless strength, this stamina to stand proud for their king, to fight till the last drop of blood, to defend their king with every inch of their soul. In the end, Gawain he’s one of King Arthur’s knights, his closest and his most dreaded knight, who goes berserk in battle, feeling no pain, no fear, being inhumanly strong - to fight for his King. Just like Steve and the way he fights for his country and for his people.

Steve’s belief in his country, in his oath, in his choice is set in stone, immovable and everlasting. He doesn't have seconds thoughts. He has never had them.

Betrayal of trust, to sell out this said oath, this belief in America is unforgivable for Steve. Btw, if I had to describe America in a mystique way I’d say: she is this female, ageless entity, old and beautiful and precious, a wise lady who truly owns Steve’s heart (like Galadriel from LOTR). Once someone has crossed this line, there’s never a way back. Steve suffers every loss of his fellow comrade.

And Greer was such a comrade and even a special one because he had feelings for her. This group of unique members speaking a language of their own, trusting each other with their lives, blindly and unconditionally. This group is small - and it gets smaller and smaller. Steve doesn’t have new comrades. The tightest bond has been build during his training and education days, during becoming a SEAL and being sent on missions. The group members get diminished and each and everyone who is lost to betrayal destroys something in Steve’s soul.

Greer’s betrayal destroys a part of Steve. It came out of the blue, unexpected - detonating like a meteorite in his heart. I’m sure he would have sworn under oath that she’s an honest soul. I guess the shock to misinterpret her character was as big as a shock as to find out she works together with the Chinese. Steve tries to fight all the fallout. And in the end, there is disgust, antipathy, and a deep-rooted aversion. This chasm isn’t to pass ever again. Steve won’t let this person back into his inner world. It’s over - forever.

But Greer does not only cut deep into Steve’s soul by turning her back on everything his life is built upon, there is something else she causes - it’s way crueler (from my point of view): she’s planted a seed of doubt in Steve’s soul when she said: “You think you’re such a good guy, Steve. But you’ve done things. Bad things. You can tell yourself they were in the name of doing some greater good. But were they, really?”

I have to admit that Greer has a point with what she's saying. And Steve doesn't want to hear it. His doubts flair up, being there, hovering in the air for a fraction of a second and I can almost see him squash them down where they can never arise again. I get the impression that Steve has a movie, racing through his mind, with all the terrible things he'd done in the name of this greater good, in the name to defend America, his Lady. I got the impression that Steve watches all the action, all his past (or at least a part of it) from a different angle for the first time in life. And maybe it's also because he has suffered so many losses and so many betrayals: from his mother, from Catherine and now from Greer. He desperately needs to understand, what the hell is wrong!?

Freddie got killed in action and cut a hole in Steve's heart. So far, he has faced every tragedy but somehow Greer and her speech get to him. And I wouldn't wonder if, for the shortest amount of time, there was an understanding forming in Steve’s mind why she did it. Or let me say, he wishes to understand because everything else kills him and chokes him and he can't grasp the logic, the hurt, and the failed trust.

I can't get rid of the image of the "Last Man Standing" when the world went to shit and crumbles to dust and there's only Steve trying to find kindred spirits to not feel so alone anymore.

Something bad has happened in Marrakesh and Steve hates to be reminded and his question "You threatening me?" tells me about this bad shit, that something epic went down and it went south and somehow Steve was able to sit on that lid of that pandora box and kept everything hidden and stored away – until now.

Have you ever witnessed this odd, strangely unfamiliar expression on Steve's face? He seems torn as if the memories itself deform his face, and suddenly this onslaught of memories are attacking him from different angles. And the worst is to know that his ally has just turned his back on him, being a fraud and a terrible disappointment. Two heavy blows to his heart. Again, Steve stands alone, bereft of this invisible strength that always keeps him upright. It's part of his backbone, this belief in his country and in his oath and in his comrades.

I can't get rid of the feeling that Steve starts to think about his actions and if it was the right thing to do. I guess I could go on for another hour, but the most important fact from this scene is the way Steve's inner world crashes down. Losing Greer to the enemy has a severe effect on how Steve sees himself - I guess? At least I've got the impression that he's struggled a moment, stumbled and caught himself. He walks tall again, but there's this heaviness now wafting around his chest. Something is off, and it worries him deeply.

And Danny – Danny can't help him, because Danny doesn't belong to this world. The Navy is like a separate realm in Steve's mind and in his life. He only can share openly with comrades who have sworn the same oath.

I'm interested what others think about this scene. Have I exaggerated? Have I interpreted too much into that scene? And after I've written that long essay, I'm still convinced that this scene was so painful for Steve because again, it has caused a major shift in his tectonic plates within his soul.

Phantom’s Planet: An Alternate ending to Danny Phantom

Okay because of this poll (please go do it, it’s awesome), the Slack got talking about how BAD Phantom Planet was again. This got me ranting, and long story short, I wrote out what I would have done for the finale. Note, this finale pretty much works within season three parameters for the most part and works to bring out the best parts of season three.

With that out the way, I hope you enjoy my rant!

I would have done a finale where Dan got every single other major villain from the show like the new big bad ones. (Undergrowth, Nocturne, Vortex, etc), set them in all the major cities around the world, have Dan kidnap Danny's family's and friend's, and then Dan (because let him be overly prideful and want revenge) basically tells announces that "unless you defeat me one on one, everything in the world, everyone you ever loved, are going to destroyed"

(Btw he's basically blackmailed/threatened Technus to report this all around the world)

And after inital panic, Danny's like, fuck that noise, goes and recruits the ghostly allies he gained post TUE Dan doesn't know about (Frostbite, Pandora, Dora, etc) and tries to recruit Dani and Vlad. He doesn't know where Dani is and Vlad is being a prick, so he goes, arms up, and after preparing his own force, goes to fight Dan.

There's this battle between them, Dan is surprised at the ice powers and the little abilities Danny managed to perfect, despite not being as good as Dan. He's more innovative and basically more creative than Dan is with his powers. At the same time, there's these huge battles going on around the world with the major ghosts. Eventually even the ghosts like Skulker, Ember, Kitty, Johnny, etc join in to fight against the big bads because if they win, who knows what will happen? Status quo is better than nothing

But it's not enough against Dan. He simply has too much experience and power. mind he's a lot more unstable in this version. Danny gets a huge beating, gets turned into his human form, and when it seems like he's about to lose....BAM, SURPRISE ATTACK FROM THE SKY.

Freaking Vlad stopped being a prick for a bit and managed to track down Dani. and after he somehow managed to bring her to the final battle point, they've come to fight too. So, it becomes a three on one, Dan's said they cheated, Danny snarks about "just evening the playing field".

Danny is still in human form, but he brought some Fenton weapons just in case he did get stuck in it. At the final blow, he uses a Fenton weapon to go straight through Dan's core, he screams, it shatters, and the day is saved.

But wait.... Technus is still live steaming this. Oh shit, and then everyone knows of the brave child who, despite everything, despite all the odds against him, continued fighting for the world, his world, their world.

From there, it's a mini time skip. The world is in celebration, the news reports the confirmed existence of ghosts, to the point where some of them are helping reconstruction of the world's cities. Everyone is unsure and a bit scared, not really knowing what to do or how to continue forward.

Vlad is sort of stand offish. How despite everything, he still came back to help. So it ends with Vlad getting a bit of a hint, a what if that he could be a better person, or not. It depends on what he chooses. Though he does end with, "Sometimes we need to sort out our priorities"

Basically the ending has a bunch of much needed reconciliation scenes. Danny goes to talk to his parents, maybe tell them off a bit before ending with a hug, Dani goes to Maddie and Jack, and you see as Danny walks away that she is hugged by them and is accepted as a child, Valerie punches Danny and they talk a bit before hinting at talking more later on about what they mean to one another (hinting at either friendship or romance), (idk about Jazz shit) and the show ends with Tucker, Danny, and Sam all together, watching the city below them.

They're a team, they're friends, and they'll always be there for each other, no matter what the world brings them.

THE END

Other things not included or to note:

-Danny defeats Dan in his human form, representing how his humanity defeated the evil and power of his alternate future, creating a future of his own.

-This all happens on Danny’s birthday, or at the very least, the kidnapping does. Because of (insert law where ghosts can’t attack each other on death/birthday), Danny is letting his guard down. HOWEVER, since Dan is technically Danny, the law doesn’t apply to him. So Danny doesn’t see it coming when everyone is just GONE.

-Most of these reconciliations are meant to be open ended. New world, new start, new beginnings, whether that way take them. Everyone is given a second chance, but it’s up to them to take it.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this! Idk how do end this so.... yeah. (presents alternate ending because I’m salty)

Brought to us by the glorious land of 1987, Moonstruck is a rom com starring Cher. Somewhere in my research I saw a review or something that gave me the idea that this was a musical, and I was really excited to see Nic, like, actually singing.

It is not a musical.

It is however, violently Italian. Cher plays Loretta Castorini, a widowed Brooklyn bookkeeper from a very Italian family. The movies opens pretty slow, with a lot of establishing scenes, but when things finally start happening, we find her agreeing to marry Johnny Cammareri, played by Danny Aiello. Johnny promptly leaves for Italy to attend his mother’s deathbed, but not before insisting that Loretta invite his brother Ronny to the wedding so the two men can reconcile.

Enter Nicolas Cage as Ronny Cammereri, an extremely passionate baker with no intention of reconciling with his brother. Apparently the reason the Cammareri brothers fell out in the first place was because Ronny was using a slicer to cut some bread, Johnny distrcted him, Ronny lost his hand, and then, because he was now crippled, his fiancee left him. Loretta and Ronny fall in love at first sight, and what follows is a comedy of errors that ends with Johnny breaking off the engagement (because his mother has miraculously recovered--turns out he only proposed to get his mother off his back about getting married), and Ronny proposing to Loretta instead. Everyone gets a happy ending!

Overall, it was a very sweet movie, and they played all the drama just right, unlike a lot of romantic comedies. Like every Nicolas Cage role, Ronny’s not quite what you expected, but we still get some of that trademark mania, particularly when he and Loretta first meet. Ronny gets very emotional about how his brother ruined his life, gestures wildly with his fake hand, and threatens to kill himself. The scene is a good preview for what we’re going to get in Cage’s next film, Vampire’s Kiss. (which is still my favorite, btw.)

I’m going to give it a generous four out of five Nicolas Cages, in spite of the fact that it was very much Cher’s movie, because I really enjoyed it.
