I have to springboard off of that post here and NOT in their tags bc im gonna clutter them and hit tag limit (like i do ALL the time 😭) but i am just so obsessed w their dynamic man. I think as I dip into some of the more Not Fluffy themes wrt to them and their backgrounds, their unhealthy bonds and coping mechanisms (being dismantled and rebuilt to be more sustainable)(and not just w akira and ryuji but ALL the thieves), I always come back to them being sooooo….free with each other. Like theres no way to really describe it in any other way. Ryuji literally puts it best. They are able to do the feats that they do bc they are free from judgement between themselves. And its bc of ryuji ! Akira is the protagonist but my god this story could not have happened at all without Ryuji

Like YEAH they have this fateful meetup and Akira literally awakens his persona for Ryuji, but I think Ryuji (and eventually Ann too) becomes this incredibly grounding force for the team. Akira was more than content to stay low and get this over with; keep his head down and let the accusations and hushed words flow over him. And Ryuji quite literally bulldozes his way into Akiras life. And he is soooo unapologetic about it!!! Hes takes up space and hes not afraid to do so! And its a little (alot) contagious if Akira is honest with himself. Akira was content to lay low AT FIRST, but he did not get into this position bc he was meek and a pushover; he got into this mess bc he was impulsive and brash!

I think its so telling that the first person Akira latches onto is the infamous school fuckup! Of COURSE the new delinquent kid is buddy buddy w the existing delinquent, students and faculty would say to each other. They really are more alike than people believe, and its bc they mirror each other so much that they have the space to understand each other. I dunno! Im rambling! Do u see the dots! ‘My place is by your side’ ! ‘Being free is like…how i feel around u’ !! They get each other sooooooo much like literally so inextricably bonded together that u CANT have one wo the other anymore. Oh Light, this is so sweet... I'm actually feeling a little guilty because long-time followers will know I'm definitely not a Musketeer person lol But for you only, OP, I will try to cook up something.

To be totally transparent here, my beef is how her premise was utilized. First, as alt skin for the Arbalest (watch as I force myself not to rant about THAT particular choice) and second, her general character focus.

Someone who pierced through the veil of reality by complete accident has potential to be an interesting character! But her barks lean heavily on the "aristocratic huntress" thing, which is not the way I would go in a game about broken souls (also it kinda steps on Audrey's toes). Make her sound a little more obsessed, a little more haunted, hint at the fact that maybe, just maaaaybe, seeing what she was never meant to changed her forever. Make her "hunt" less of a choice to soothe her pride over one competition (srsly) and more of an irresistible pull from the very Heart of Darkness. NOW we can talk.

Let's add this too: when she gazed at the abyss, did the abyss gaze back? Eyes in Darkest Dungeon are a symbol of awareness of the horror of reality and it was an eye she found at the other side of her gun. If the thing saw her, did it only see an ant? Did it see food, something to draw into the trap that is the Hamlet? Or does it have another purpose?

In this reading, I would put her in the same category as Sarmenti and Amani as people who never had any intention to reach out to the occult but have a natural inclination to fiddle with it... Maybe even attract the eldritch? Imagine how disturbing, to be the one the most unnatural monsters like to swarm to. In a bad timeline, she could have been a cultist witch.

Besides, with a title like Musketeer, we could stand to give her more grit. Ok, she's a competitive shooter, but musketeers were military units. It's possible they wanted to avoid overlap with other military heroes, especially Arbalest, but that wouldn't be a problem if her uniqueness was emphasized in other ways. Notably, the French musketeers were an elite unit that served both as royal guard and in open battle. I know Butcher's Circus tried to differentiate her, but what if instead of backline healing (which doesn't resonate with her theme) she got a guard skill and a few lines about serving some noble house? It would be a way to give her a bit more of a storied past. She directly references The Three Musketeers, for goodness' sake, make her reference some adventures! Intrigue, romance! Maybe a Cardinal Mazarin expy, why not!

To end, can I someone please tell me what her hair color is meant to be? The portrait is blonde, her full body art is redhaired, the Butcher's Circus art leans brunette/auburn. I know consistent design does not exist in Darkest Dungeon but. At this point I'm headcanoning that she dyes it a different color every time to cover early gray hair from the Horrors. She's the only one who has a grey haired alt skin, IIRC.

JOHN AND FRANCESCA!!! 🥰🥹🥺😭 Honestly, how dare they make me love them as a pair so much when we know what happens to him?? But I love what Hannah Dodd is doing with Fran and this makes me SO EXCITED (but scared) for her eventual season.

These storylines that I loved aside, there are TOO MANY UNNECESSARY STORYLINES. I like Will and Alice as characters, but I didn't need their storyline. The whole "Featherington sisters don't know how to fuck" was funny once or twice for comic relief, but I do not need a whole thing of it. I ADORE Ben, but like, what are we doing here with Lady Arnold? I fully support Violet getting some action and am intrigued by whatever the deal is with Lady D and her brother, but I could take or leave most of the Marcus Anderson stuff at this point. I just wish that they had cut a few of these and spent more time with Colin and Pen and/or Pen and Eloise (or I would never complain about more Kanthony, but I can acknowledge that they're not the focus of the season, so fine).

They decided to destroy me as a Person and deprive me of everything at any cost ...

They dragged me through three Courts , and in the end , with the help of incompetent & stupid Judges & their shameful Courts , they achieved their diabolical & vile goals 👿👿👿
