Semi-desperate Mithrun in regards to Kabru post-canon is so fucking real. On top of everything else, the guy kinda sorta literally gave him a will to live. Like. Mithrun's an acts of service logic type guy and was already attached to him. And how the fuck are you gonna return a favor like That. Beyond the continuing demon hunting and shit he probably rings up Kabru once a week like "You wanna hang out. I know you're stressed all the time every day. Come hang out with me." And is like yea, this is a normal response to a guy making you see you still have a life. And doesn't process the fact he's in weird complicated some kinda love with him.
YES !!!! mithrun hasn't desired (or hasn't believed he desired anything besides revenge) and when he's starting to develop feelings for kabru, he's nervous and a bit surprised. to me the realisation is slow and methodical, like "i miss kabru. i want kabru around. i feel his absence. what does this mean. all a part of newly wanting things i guess. totally normal to do this." -> 6 months later "oh"
and last time he fell in love, mithrun became a dungeon master and his entire life changed. now he's got his life back, learning about loving that, and kabru complicates many things. i think even kabru would have hesitations, mostly over how he believes elves can't understand short lived races, and if there is a 'future' for them that they'd both be happy with. i want to see them work it out together. it's very beautiful to me :)

I don't know if it's because it's been too long since I last watched Stranger Things, but I genuinely don't remember a happy Nancy scene post Barb...
This is such an interesting thing to think about because it's not as if Nancy looks miserable in most scenes of the show. In fact, she often looks determined and occasionally excited even. She has smiled before, but excitement about progress in a case, something she's passionate about because of Barb, isn't necessarily happiness. So this is something you have to look beyond face value for.
Nancy suffers quite plainly with survivors guilt and with a lot of trauma. She isn't healed from what happened in Season One, and I don't think she even let herself really start until after season three. Not with so much unresolved. She also hasn't had the help she really needs either. However, Nancy has experienced happiness since Barb's death. There are moments she forgets. It’s only healthy that she's not so obessively mired in her misery that she can't have moments to breathe.
It's been a while since I've watched the show, too, so I can't say if there's a Jancy scene where she's just happy. Their get-together scene was very in the middle of Barb trauma, the wake up together scene is very stressed and rushed. Jonathan has been good to her, but all their scenes are a very mixed bag of emotions with happiness not really being the predominant one.
There are three small scenes from season four that come to mind. The first is Lucas's game. Nancy is quite genuinely proud and happy for Lucas in that moment of success. It's such a small shot, but it's one of a few scenes that show us that Nancy cares a whole lot more about Mike’s friends than she ever says.
The second is the scene with the dog, right before the plot plummets Nancy right back into her guilt complex. She's starting to live, and she lets herself be, for just a second, when she steps away from a murder investigation to just play with a dog. This is the first real evidence that her passion for her work is not just about Barb anymore.
The last scene is the officially friends scene with Robin. It's simply a moment of establishing connection, and both girls are just so warm in that moment. It's another sign of Nancy starting to actually heal. She's happy to have a new girl friend, not scared or guilty like she would have been before.

The Curse of Deepfrost
A new Hermitcraft/Decked Out 2 fanfiction on AO3
The kingdom has fallen, its population decimated. The outskirts are already caught in the maelstrom of ice and snow, and it moves in on the capital. A few pockets of civilization in and around the citadel have survived thus far, but food supplies and hope are dwindling as the wind picks up and blasts ice in their hearts.
The only thing that can chase away the cold is hidden deep below the earth. In the deepest dungeons of the citadel, a spell is rumored to be located, strong enough to dispel the winter. Yet all who entered through the doors have never returned.
With little left to lose - and with the encouragement of the survivors under her wing - a young woman named Pearl steps through the doors to help her people and put an end to the eternal winter.

Excerpt of chapter 1
All the children played outside when the snow fell. They ran out of their homes in their t-shirts and shorts and grabbed with their bare hands at the many snowflakes. Excitement filled the air - such that they forgot almost everything else and enjoyed themselves to the fullest with this miracle.
Perhaps one did look at their parents and saw their concern about snow falling in the middle of summer.
Pearl wasn’t watching the parents discussing this strange event with whoever was closest, nor did she see the children play. Her gaze was drawn to the skies and to the gray clouds that closed in on the sun. She reached out her hand, allowed the ray of light to caress her one last time before the clouds choked and blocked the light. Her hand lingered in the air for a moment before she pulled it close to her chest.
The moment often crossed her mind. The sensation of the light, the warmth against her skin. How lucky she had been - she captured the final moments of the sun’s warmth and now carried it with her.
Nowadays, she shivered in the presence of whatever flame they managed to create before the deepfrost claimed it. Wearing five layers of clothes barely kept her perpetually numb toes from freezing off of her feet, and hugging someone for body warmth was not as productive during the day. Even so, people always looked forward to the next flame, the next sliver of warmth, that next spark of hope.
Her mind was on that last flame and the sun again while she sorted through her belongings. Inside the room she shared with her friends, she moved her items either onto a neat pile in the corner or into her backpack. Most were placed in the pile, and after a second pass, only two more items made it into the backpack. Her bedroll no longer took up space on the floor, and half of her personal rations lay atop the pile. Beyond that, only her personal belongings that she was emotionally attached to would make the journey. Her friends could still use everything else.
A cold wooden bowl, not properly cleaned out from the last time it was used, was the last item that disappeared into the backpack.

Guess what kind of bitch I am?
The kind who wakes up at 4am to reach her goal of 700 words per day before her 6am scheduled surgery.
I told my friends:
If I miss a day of writing...
I will go nuclear.
I saved the world from the apocalypse, simply by writing 700 words day of surgery. I am a god.

I feel like I'm borrowing all my time | 5.3k
Greez can’t do much but trail Cere, who moves like she knows where she’s going. He’s only really half sure she has any clue, figuring she’s mostly putting on an act so no one questions them. That’s the best way to get into someplace you didn’t belong, just acting like you did, holding your head high and charging forward, and he supposes it works here like it works anywhere else.
They really don’t belong here, in every sense of the word. Greez has never been anywhere he belonged less and it makes his skin crawl if he thinks too much about it.
They really don’t belong here. Everything is out of place, out of order. It’s all already happened. There’s nothing they can do to change it. But some things transcend time.
(aka the only Star Wars time travel fic I will ever write. ...Probably.)
[ ao3 link ]
Truly, if you had asked me...about five weeks ago if I would ever write a Star Wars time travel fic I would have said 'hell no'. The thing is I understand why they're so popular -- what tragedy couldn't be fixed with a little foreknowledge and rewinding the clock to warn people? also when your main series spans decades and the expanded universe literally millennia, often the only way to get your faves to interact is to introduce a little time travel, so I get it -- but I am very particular about time travel fiction and I really struggled to fit this type of time travel into my conception of this universe and the Force and then...I just got all the plot out of the way and let the angst take over. Isn't that always the way though? Just let the drama shine through. Don't worry about the 'plot' or little things like 'how do they actually time travel though'. Anyway, add it a literal set of dice and some non-linear narrative shenanigans (you know I love those!) and you've got my unexpected favorite fic of whumptober 2023. How. Who have I become.
Please enjoy ;-)

Okay. You know how most fandoms with siblings have a "separated" au? Well, I think we have a unique position to have an MBS "not seperated" au.
Imagine that Nicholas and Nathaniel never got split up. Either they both get adopted, or they both remain in the orphanage/run away. What would even happen? Nothing. They're just two super geniuses who do stuff as a highly effective and close-knit duo.
ALSO
Because in this story, Curtain wouldn't have started the Emergency/Nicholas wouldn't need to create the Society, the kids would be kept separated!
Reynie would stay in the orphanage (Maybe he'd get adopted at some point?), Kate wouldn't have ever lost Milligan (Unless you want to make someone else the villain, in which case she'd stay with the circus), Sticky would have either ended up in an orphanage/lived on his own/or never have run away, and Constance would have kept living in the library (Or maybe, since the Recruiters wouldn't have gone after her, she would have gotten adopted).

Pharma/Ambulon is a ship I kinda want to get into because it feels like it's a ship that has a lot of drama potential. It's not enemies to lovers but it's like, ETL lite. I guess there's just something in there that you can pick at to find some angst? Like, Pharma hates Decepticons and so he hates Ambulon because he's a Decepticon, but eventually comes to love him later on? Or you could work in something about Pharma's deal with Tarn/the DJD to save Delphi, in which part of the reason he makes the deal is so that he can protect Ambulon (I've seen many fics take this approach even with platonic/not particularly close Pharma and Ambulon).
I don't think I ship it in a "these guys would make a great long-term/stable couple" way, I think I ship it more in a "this has great angst potential/they have really complicated feelings towards each other" way but I don't really have any ideas for how.
