hey first of all i LOVE you’re work
i wanted to ask which fics you’re currently working on ?
𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨, 𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐲 - tldr at the bottom of the post xx
first of all - thank you🥰 I honestly never knew I would get this far, but posting my work here was the greatest decision I could've made. It feels amazing to post my work and have people enjoy it just like me :)
second - I have six requests in the works right now. I work in order of request and (because I'm traveling a lot these next few months) I'm mostly going to be doing requests and any other one shots that I come up with/want to indulge myself in. I really want to do fics with Brienne (i love her so much) and even some of the lovely Morningstar, so I'll either follow the requests or post something of my own.
This is also going to allow me to build up my next series because it's actually a really cool idea (to me) but I have absolutely no idea how many chapters its going to be.
★ In terms of requests, I have (in order from top to bottom):
Enemies to lovers - hate sex, Larissa x Reader
Lyric Fic to Eat Your Young by Hozier - going the sexual route with this one instead of the real meaning (about capitalism lol), Larissa x Reader
Sex Tape - g!p Larissa x Reader, plot twist, good ending
Lyric Fic to Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray - romantic, full of fluff, Larissa x Reader
Hecate Hardbroom x Reader - I'm currently looking into this character, but she seems really cool. Anon, if you have any specific requests for this, shoot me another message in my inbox please. I wanna know if you want fluff or smut or if you want anything specific to play out <3
Virgin Reader x Larissa Weems - first time, everyone expected otherwise from reader, soft
What's above is what's in the request. When I get there, titles will be posted to my masterlist of what is in the works in sections, but the titles are subject to change. The top request is the one I'm currently working on, so the title is actually already on my masterlist.
★ In terms of series (in the works, not coming out for A WHILE):
Larissa Weems x Professor Reader (title on my masterlist)
Brienne of Tarth x Reader
these are both on the longer side, are still in the works, and are listed VERY vaguely because the ideas I have behind them are ones I haven't seen before (I am and will continue to gatekeep, sorry xoxo)
★ When it comes to my own ideas:
I have around 6-7 one shots, two of which have the potential to become series. HOWEVER, I do prioritize my requests, so I won't mention my ideas for them because I do not know when they will come out. Most are Larissa x Reader, there's one that's Lucifer x Reader, and there's another where I don't know if i should do Brienne, Larissa, or Lucifer (it will probably be Brienne, though).
★ Other Notes:
sections of other characters will be created on my masterlist when a fic with them in it gets posted, but I seem to be a main Larissa Weems blog. If they're one-offs, they'll be posted in an "others" sections.
please remember I'm in college and also work, so things might take longer than some of you may like (I'm getting there, I swear)
look at my masterlist before turning in requests - there are some things I won't write, so if it's requested then I'll skip over that part of the request or the whole request entirely
TLDR: 6 requests, 2 series, 6-7 of my own ideas in the words. I prioritize requests sent to my inbox, and I work in order. Titles of things will be posted on my masterlist in sections and are subject to change. Series are on pause for me due to travel, so don't expect them for quite some time.
Thank you for the ask, lovely anon. This is the first one I've gotten that was just a question, and it was a nice excuse to update everyone else as well. Any questions like these will be under the same tag on my profile (second tag down below).

I. private / selective / mutuals only. i curate my only space here and therefore i reserve the right to follow and unfollow at my discretion. that being said - if i follow you it's usually because i'm interested in interacting. that also means this blog is multiverse / multiship / crossover / oc / au and duplicate friendly! i don't tend to do exclusives (except in rare circumstances) but i will do mains which will always be listed on my carrd.
II. the activity of this blog is sporadic - as i run a multitudes of others and my muse tends to wax and wane, as well as refusing to make myself write if i'm not feeling it. additionally, if for whatever reason i don't like something you've tagged me in within two days time - feel free to give me a poke about it. mutuals, feel free to send any prompts from ask memes i reblog at any time, though i ask you send no more than three at once otherwise i tend to get overwhelmed and just turn into a turtle.
III. i am a very word writer - usually 3-5 paragraphs in length, often times more. i don't expect my partners to match me in the slightest. i also format my posts - triple spaced, small font, colors, and icons when the mood strikes. i don't expect that to be matched either. quality over quantity is always appreciated!
IV. on the subject of shipping - i absolutely love it. i find it to be an excellent character development tool and a great way to familiarize yourself with your muse in ways you might not be able to otherwise. i am almost always usually down for shipping - as long as i have discussed things with the mun beforehand, and our muses have chemistry.
please note, however - that sampo is by nature - a massive flirt. him turning up the rizz is a core tenant of his character. if his flirtatiousness makes you uncomfortable as a mun - please let me know, though i make efforts to keep things tame.
if you are interested in shipping - feel free to slide into my dm's and we can give it a talky talk.
V. NSFW will be present on this blog. given the nature of the character written and the subject matter i like to explore - it may even be heavily prevalent. all NSFW will be tagged and placed under a read more. this includes but is not limited to: smut, violence, gore, psychological trauma, horror, drug usage, etc. additionally, i do my best to tag common triggers as well as read my mutuals rules for anything specific they may have, but if for some reason i miss something - please let me know! i promise it wasn't on purpose.
if you are under the age of 18, do not follow me. if your blog lists you as below 18, i will hard block. no exceptions.
VI. yes sampo's character is generally the funny man with a little bit of rogueish charm - which is primarily how i write him. i do however want to make note that this portrayal definitely contains more complexity than that. sampo is defined as morally grey at best, and while he is loyal to some person to a degree - it is likely he may use your muse for personal gain, though any sort of content will likely be discussed before hand. please note that mun =/= muse. i'm just a baby.
VII. this blog is definitely not spoiler free - though i make a point to tag fresh content. don't steal my graphics - all resources are listed on my carrd. don't be a dick. don't god mod. i'm old and tired and am not here for tumblr drama. be a decent human being please.
goose / 29 / she+they / i play on NA so feel free to hit me up for my UID! BY THE WAY I'M NO LONGER SAMPOLESS AS OF 5/5.

Today was... normal, I guess? I'm not working at the moment because I want to focus on my studies, so mostly I just do my chores and that's it. Today mom and I watched Dragon Quest: Your Story (I higly recommend it to you, also I remember a post that you made a while ago about some comfort games? I saw that most of them were made with RPG Maker and are actually kind of good, so I TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY recommend you play any Dragon Quest, or all of them! They're RPG's, and try to play the DS version of the games, the old ones are a little bit harder than their DS versions buuuuut you'll need to look up guides if you don't want to walk around aimlessly without knowing what to do... but yeah, they're worth it, trust me... does he has a Switch? Maybe he can but Dragon Quest X for the switch, it's the easier one to follow its story and... one of the very best of them all, so yeah, enough of that). I also help her with her homework because she works afternoon shifts so yeah, not much time for homework but its just your standar homework, nothing special. (I just realized this last bit looks like I help my mom with her homework, but I didn't mean mom lol)
I've been actually listening to mostly the same music as I did before. I... stopped looking for new music a while back. Music it's a delicate subject for me now, because back when I was trying to make some, it was a difficult and painful process for me so yeah, I don't go around looking for new sounds anymore, neither I try to make them. But I do listen to a couple new ones... aaaand speaking of, I am making a playlist for you. Well, I just started it some hours ago but got tangled up with her homework so I had to focus on it. I'll share the link with you via chat, you don't have to reply or anything, I don't want us to go through that again, I'll just send the link, save it on a note, wherever you want and then you can delete the conversation if you want to, it's ok.
Family's fine, just mom with her shoulder and hand, but everything's good. What about you? What have you been up to? How's your brother? He must be tall, right? I got a feeling back when we... that he would turn out to be tall, like, reaaaally tall.
And I didn't knew that fact, but that's something I would expect you would know. Thank you for sharing it, I'm going to start looking at my naps like you do.
And yeah, I go to her house on weekends and we just spend the day there with her family. I know all of her family, and actually get along pretty well with all of them. So yeah, we only sit around and they drink, like, a lot. She also drinks, "solo de la roja" but I don't. I haven't tasted alcohol in like... 5 years? Last time was with Alo in her house with her friends, right before the pandemic started. All of her family asks me why I don't drink, and I just tell them that I simply don't like it. Don't like the taste, don't like what it does to me (the couple of times I got drunk I actually became a looooot more cheerful and "extroverted"??? Like, I would go around the party and start talking with everyone... dang, maybe I do need to be drunk always), so yeah, we don't go to big fancy places or anything, we both are the stay at home watching movies and sharing a blankie type.
I actually read your post when you... well, posted it. I tend to have my phone close to me and... I'm sorry if I sound like a creep, but I have notifications turn on so I know when you post. That's because I want to know when you write something, sometimes I get so lost on homework or studying that I just forget to even text her back if I don't hear a notification or anything. I know it must be kind of weird, but I want to be 100% honest with you, so if you want me to turn it off I get it. But back to what I was gonna say, I don't remember reading about you going to sign classes. And I'm jelous! I kinda wanted to go too because of you and your brother, but after us I just lost the interest so I took chinese again, but if you know where I can go to sign classes let me know.
I know you'll do good at work, I remember you being good at everything you did back then, so I wouldn't even worry about it. But my condolences on that 12 hour shift.
Aang and Roku are so you, I can definitely see that. I hope we can both be like Uncle Iroh one day. Old and fat. Jk.
Ok, so I was aware about this test that you wrote about but I forgot what type I was so I'm doing it right now, I thought to write this before doing it but this just gets waaaaaaaaaay too personal dude like, its asking me "you are still bothered by the mistakes you did a long time ago" like, dude, who sent you??? Ok back to it.
So I got INFJ-T? Is that the correct English name to it? Ok, I got the same as Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mocking bird so everything's right in this life. Ok, so I was looking for the ATLA thingy you were talking about and I think I found the page you're talking about with The Avatar, The Airnomads and such and... Oh my god. No. Way.
Please watch Korra again. I know I've been recommending you a lot of things lately, but Korra is so close to my heart. Korra and Tomomi Nomiya are such a "literally me" characters to me. I'm actually using my brother's GF netflix account lol.
I... haven't actually asked that question to myself before. I've always loved water, I believe you know that, but water is such a passive, calm energy that I think wouldn't fit with me honestly. I was thinking more Air or Earth, Fire maybe because I'd like to do Lightningbending but I know I would kill myself for sure because I would get distracted lol. Air because I always wanted to fly, if you remember THAT antagonist from TLoK you'll know what I mean. But I feel I would Earthbend because I don't know... I just believe it fits more with who I am as a person and how I would interact in that world. I can see you being an Airbender too, and helping the Avatar to Airbend and that's because I don't want you to bloodbend, you'd be TOO powerful in our world if you could.
I knew you were into Yaoi manga, I remember you talking about it back then but I wasn't all sure. Now I am lol.
I find it interesting that you decided to share the ending instead of you writing the name of the manga/anime for me to look for it, and those lyrics... is there something you'd like to say? Jk, nice song btw.
Have you watch Nichijou? Azumanga Daioh? Lucky Star? You know I'm more of a manga guy, but maaaaaaan these high-schooler animes are just so fricking good and I laugh like a donkey watching them. ALSO Nichijou's both openings are just *chef's kiss*
Have a good night, and good weekend. Hope your shift passes by quickly. You'll do good, trust in yourself and know that if you're there is for a reason. I've always believed in you.
I'd like to ask you too if you're going to see him, if you're going to kiss him but... I'm not ready to know, but it helps that you write about your history with him more so that I can get a better idea of you actually loving him, it helps me in a way to face reality just... do it slowly.
But I do hope you enjoy your time, whatever you do and with whoever you do it.

rules.
hello! i'm whiskers.  white, 30, nonbinary (she/they).  formerly bun & bunny.  i also have a full-time job, so expect mostly low to medium activity here.
quick note - i recently changed my pen name because there is a person in the RPC with the name "bunny" that has hurt people, and i do not want to be associated with them, even accidentally.
this blog is for tom yates of house of cards.  (literally also fuck kevin spacey, you will never see that piece of trash on this blog.)  canon-wise, i focus mostly on him in season 3 and 4, because i don't like where the writing took him in season 5.  otherwise, he's canon divergent.  i have plenty of au universes for him, including mr. robot, cyberpunk 2077, hannibal, and much more.
because of the mature themes of this blog, this will be an 21+ environment only.  no exceptions. please have your age in your rules. no hard feelings; this is curating a safe space for us both.
i will do my best to tag every trigger with trigger cw to help with blacklist.  please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need anything tagged that i have missed.  unfortunately, it's hard to keep up with everyone's triggers, and i may make a mistake -- please reach out to correct me; i will be more than happy to fix it.
i will roleplay smut on the dash, but preference for smut is on discord.  any nsfw will be appropriately tagged nsft.  let's build some chemistry first!
i will only roleplay with mutuals, no exceptions. if you wish to break mutuals with me, please block me so that i do not accidentally try to follow you again.
this will be a multi-verse and multi-ship blog. i do love shipping, but of course it's not my only reason for roleplaying. to reiterate - let's build some chemistry!
as for formatting, i will use the new text posts, small font, and xkit rewritten to cut down posts.  this will be an iconless blog.
please feel free to send me memes. i love memes. plotting goes to IMs or discord, which i am happy to give out to mutuals upon request.
length does not matter -- i am happy to write anything from one-liners to one paragraph to novellas. i am also happy to rewrite replies if it is hard to write a response.
please no god-modding or powerplay. in the event of a fighting thread, feel free to wound my character, but please don't do any mortal wounds or disfigurement without consulting me first.
i will not tolerate any ooc drama.  i don't like vagueblogging.  communication is so important, so i encourage you to reach out if there is something you need to discuss with me.  i may not reblog callouts myself, but i pay attention to those who have hurt people and block accordingly.  it literally is so easy to be kind.  choose kindness.  don't be shitty.
these rules are subject to change, and i will notify the dash if any changes or additions have occurred. thank you for getting this far down. now for the most important rule: have fun!

Hi Tee! It's your psc secret santa here 👋 Sorry for being MIA the past week, I was busy with school and work and I'm feeling under the weather lately 🤧 I hope you had a great week though 🥰 This might be the last ask before I post your gift, but feel free to DM me afterwards 🤗
Here are some of my answers to my last ask for you without revealing too much of my identity 😉
1. How long have you been giffing and what got you started?
I've been giffing for roughly about 5 years. I've been running fan accounts on other platforms, giffing seems like a logical next step at that point, like I wanted to try something else. Also I feel you, those sets that I put the least effort into sometimes get the most notes it's kinda annoying. It really depends if you're giffing for a hit fandom at the time or a dead one.
2. What are your favourite shows/ movies you've seen from 2022 and what are your all time favourites?
Wednesday for sure. And with stranger things I finally understand how epic it is. For the longest time I was just watching because everyone else was.
I love gossip girl when I saw it the first time until shit went down (aka the ivy girl for me). I've tried rewatching it multiple times but I always got interrupted by something else. I think deep down I just don't want to rewatch the later seasons.
3. What is your personality/ personality type (enneagram/mbti/ anything you use)? What are your favourite and/or least favourite part(s) of your personality?
I'm type 9 too! A bit unusual for my mbti type. I don't give a shit about what people think as a kid, I don't follow social norms. When my friends pointed out that there're things they do because it's the social norm was when I realized such things exist (I was in middle school - high school). I don't like to do what's expected of me because how I live my life is my business. I think I toned that down a bit once I started working, because I realized how others think of you have a great impact on whether you succeed or not. Your own hard work literally makes such little difference.
My least favourite part is the completely opposite of yours, I talk too little. For the most part, I don't mind it, I love it actually. But when certain times it's necessary I just stood there in silence and I can tell it's really awkward for the other party. And like overall, Idk how to express my feelings and I don't feel comfortable complimenting others irl even though I'm admiring the other person or their work etc. I think it's partly because of my personality and partly because of the culture I grew up in.
4. Favourite subject(s) in school or just favourite activities you like to do in general?
Favourite subject is physics. I like to do/ try all sort of art related stuff. Giffing is a big part of that. I draw when I have time/ inspiration. I don't like to push myself to do it just to get better at it, because at that point it becomes like work instead of fun.
5. What is your dream job/ occupation if you don't have to worry about anything, like paying rent or whether they would hire you or what would your parents/ others think that kind of stuff? 🤣
Being a physicist was my "unrealistic" dream, being a doctor was my "realistic" dream. Jokes on me, I became neither. At this point in life, I just hope I'll get a PhD someday 🤞
Here are some more asks for you:
1. What is your favourite Christmas movie?/ Any movies you watch every Christmas?
2. Do you like doing something new or sticking to traditions when it comes to celebrating holidays?
3. Any shows/ movies Tumblr got you hooked on?
4. Would you rather be a child, an adult or an old person? And why?
5. What are the hard truths you've learnt once you started working?
Happy holidays, Tee! 🎄
oh no apologies necessary. i understand that you have a life outside of this whole gif making thing. add in school and work? i hate that for you and am sorry to hear that you were sick. i hope you are feeling better. if not vicks on your feet and put fuzzy socks on. i know that sounds weird but it works 🤣 & we’re mutuals now as far as i’m concerned 😌
so wednesday is actually worth the hype? 👀 i want to get into stranger things so bad but i cannot do scary stuff. the content that fandom makes is insane though.
yeah gossip girl only has one good season. and by the time ivy comes in i just mentally check out. the thanksgiving episode however will always be iconic.
your #3? now that was a word. however it always helps to remember that everyone needs a compliment every now and then. i still think about the random girl that came up to me just to tell me that she liked my braids and asked me what nail polish i was wearing and that was years ago. but i understand the culture thing. how we’re raised sticks with us good and bad.
physics? now that’s interesting. that’s my cousin’s major! and he creates some off the wall shit. so i am looking forward to going through your creation tag.
you’ll get that PhD for sure.
now these are some questions! i like where your heads at.
1. my favorite christmas movie is unaccompanied minors. i used to fly a lot as a kid and i wanted to do all of that so bad 😂 the movie i always watch are last holiday and this christmas.
2. both! the only traditions my family sticks to is food and gifts. the food changes sometimes. like one year we’ll stick to the basics but the next we’ll do a different type of food. like this year we’re doing traditional but last year we had butter chicken, naan, etc. we always travel but since covid we haven’t gone outside of the states. even this year we didn’t want to go anywhere for real. but we don’t really plan to leave the house like that. we always play games. mainly spades even though that game is more dangerous than uno and monopoly combined.
3. tumblr got me into teen wolf. a mutual got me heavily invested in kastle (daredevil/the punisher) and willabeth (pirates of the caribbean) and now everyone is out to get me with stranger things. i followed someone because of this lady gaga set and now i ship edmancy i think that’s the name by proxy.
4. an adult. i miss certain things about being a kid like no bills but i can literally do whatever i want now. like if i want to go to 6flags then i can do that. if i want to stay up all night watching cartoons and eating ice cream i can do that too. being old doesn’t sound bad tbh. my grandma and aunties go on cruises all the time. they also say and do whatever they want and they’re all in their 60s-80s. they say wild shit all of the time like it’s nothing. like old people do not care. i’m looking forward to that.
5. the same as you did going by your #3 answer. your actual work is only a small factor in the workplace. the connections that you have with people is what gets you farther and while that’s bullshit it’s understandable. no one likes to work with someone that’s closed off and rude no matter how good they are at their job. i just know that it sucks for people that aren’t able to open up right away. like this one co worker of mine didn’t open up until she handed in her two weeks notice. she was so quiet and we all thought she didn’t like us but on her last days she started talking more. someone asked her why she wasn’t always like this and she just goes “yeah i didn’t want to risk saying something and having everyone not like me. you can’t be ugly and have no personality you have to pick a struggle.” like girl 😭😭😭 she comes out with us now too.
now i have to ask if we’re mutuals or if i at the very least follow you already friend cause you have not once asked me what i wanted. so i feel like i’m either constantly in your notifications so as soon as you got me you already knew what to make. OR you came to blog on a day where i was just reblogging one type of media and dubbed me as the horse girl or some shit.
Happy Holidays to you too! 🎄🥰

Tumblr media
[Image Description: An Undertale chat box that has “WHY FANS LOVE UNDERTALE” at its center. Next to it are a line chart and an Egg from the Dating Hub on its left, and a CRIME measurer (also from the Dating Hub) on its right. End I.D.]
Tumblr media
[Image Description: a pie chart titled, “LEVEL OF LOVE FOR UNDERTALE.” The textbox on the top right reads, “On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the least and 10 being the highest, how much do fans enjoy Undertale?” From the top going clockwise, 12 or 0% chose 5 and below; 23 or 1% chose 6; 98, or 4%, chose 7; 325, or 12%, chose 8; 529, or 20%, chose 9; and 1664, or 63%, chose 10. End I.D.]
It’s clear from all of the data analyzed so far that fans who took the time to answer our survey love Undertale. It is unlikely that they would have taken the time to answer so many questions if they had not, and even less likely that they would have come across our survey in the first place. Naturally, it comes as no surprise that 63% of our responders gave their love for Undertale a score of ten out of ten. 95% gave their love for Undertale a score of eight or higher, and only 12 responders responded with five or below, a number so small that their responses had to be lumped together to be visible on the pie chart. Of those, only 3 responders gave their love for Undertale a score of 1, and based on those responders’ other answers, it is likely that they were only intending to troll. We are very fortunate that the vast majority of responders took the survey seriously, enough so that responses like this are barely a blip in the data.
Now, for our final analysis post of the event, we will delve into the reasons that fans love Undertale so dearly.
(Essay and highlights under the cut.)
There have been countless essays on the impact that Undertale has had on people’s lives. I can hardly add more on the subject than what has already been said, but I hope this summary can provide a brief overview of what stood out among the over two thousand answers given in response to this survey. That said, due to the sheer volume of answers, I could not read every single one in depth—however, I did skim all of them, and some that stood out or were representative of several responses have been highlighted below. If you would like to see what every fan who consented to share their response had to say, you may view the full list of responses here. Note that these responses have not been edited in any way. This document may take a long time to load, as it is over 100 pages long.
(Warnings for mentions of suicidal thoughts in the following essay.)
Several responders loved the theme of choices mattering in Undertale. Whether people played the pacifist, merciless, or neutral routes, they enjoyed how the game reacted to their actions. For some, it even made them consider their own morality. One touching response explained the impact that the theme of mercy made on them. “I realized that Mercy isn't something that's given to those who deserve it. Flowey didn't deserve it. I don't deserve it myself. Shoot, we ALL need Mercy in our lives.” Many fans left similar comments about how the themes of Undertale made them better people.
Undertale changed how its fans treat others, and it also changed how fans treat themselves. The theme of staying determined and the messages of hope in the game were a light to a very large portion of fans. I cannot list all of the fans who said that Undertale helped them out of a dark place, or that they would not be alive if not for Undertale. “DETERMINATION became a metaphor for not killing myself at a really rough time in my life and I’ll always cherish that. Undertale isn’t afraid to go to really dark places but at the same time holds on so tight to its hope.”
Undertale brought fans together in unexpected ways. Some said they met friends or significant others through the fandom. “I wouldn't have met my now husband without Undertale,” one fan said. A different fan who is non-native English speaking mentioned that the game and the fan community helped them to learn English.
It would be impossible to discuss Undertale without mentioning the fan community. Whether for good or bad, many responders mentioned the fandom in their responses. Overall the feelings towards the fandom seem positive, though many made references to “toxic” parts of the fandom without specifying which parts they consider toxic. Others rejected the idea of toxicity in fandom. One response said: “[SLAMS FIST ON DESK] I KNOW MOST PEOPLE SAY THE FANDOM IS TOXIC AND CRINGE OR WHATEVER BUT OH MY GOD. The Undertale fandom, both the UTMV and the actual UT fandom, has been so much fun to be a part of. I've met countless friends because of our shared interest in something related to the game! The art people create can be breathtaking and so inspirational, and the fanfics are so so good!! I've seen people write incredible things for this fandom and it's what made me continue writing!”
One thing that makes the Undertale fandom unique is the way it embraces various AUs. Some fans are tired of AU content, but the majority of responses show a love for the creativity behind AUs. “Roll your eyes at the 50th AU Sans all you want, it's encouraging people to step outside the boundaries of fanart and pushing people to make their own ideas! I mean, hell, it was how I gained the confidence to start making my own original content.” The lack of a judgemental atmosphere seems present in the AU community, according to the responses we saw. There is an interesting balance between AU and canon (sometimes referred to as “classic”) content that another responder pointed out: “The fandom helped keep the game alive all these years, with all of its AUs. Although personally, I always enjoyed AUs that kept characters as close to the classic material as possible (dancetale, outertale) I do appreciate the creativity of the fandom. They almost created entirely new stories with new characters of their own! If it weren't for those people, the Undertale fandom would have probably not been as active as it is now. I do feel like we're getting a resurgence of classic content now too! (In 2021)”
Regardless of the many AUs the fandom has created over the years, the original game of Undertale still feels like home for many fans. They wished they could reclaim the feeling of playing the game again for the first time, but even though we can’t reset time in real life, there is still a special feeling for fans each time they play Undertale. One fan said, “Even the best fics I've read can't capture that feeling of nostalgia/almost-"coming home" that comes with hearing the music and talking to the characters.” This feeling is one that can be cherished time and time again. In the words of another responder: “It always feels welcoming like home or like comfort food that I never grow tired of no matter how many times I go to it.” Others pointed out the strength of the found family trope in Undertale, which likely contributes to this feeling of “home” as well.
As mentioned briefly earlier, the music is part of what makes Undertale feel like home for fans. Even when responses focused on other aspects of the game, many would throw in a comment about the soundtrack at the end. One comment focused on the music said “IT'S SO GOOD like I will literally go through the entire thing over and over and not be bored with it. It makes my monkey brain so happy you have no idea.” Like with the game itself, the music has incredible replay value, an amazing feat considering most of the tracks use the same few motifs. “I think what I like the most about Undertale is how the music attaches you to the story,” another responder said. “They're simple melodies that stick with you throughout the whole game, and they can remind you of both good and bad times.”
If the music sticks with fans in their hearts, then the game’s lore sticks with fans in their minds. Even six years after the release of Undertale, fans are still creating new theories and digging up new secrets. The way the game breaks the fourth wall in particular intrigued many fans and has stuck out through all these years. The awareness that the game shows for the RPG genre makes it memorable. The game plays with the player’s expectations and turns them on their heads, all while reminding the player that they’re in a game. There are few other games that do this on such a large scale, so it’s no surprise that fans cite this as one of their favorite things about Undertale.
Lastly, the LGBT+ representation in Undertale has been a huge draw for fans. Especially in 2015, the sheer volume of non-cishet characters was unprecedented, as one fan pointed out: “It's practically unheard of to see so MANY from just one source, especially during its heyday in 2015-16. Hell, you can't even GET the true pacifist ending without helping two gay couples hook up. It's really nice to see all of them being accepted for who they are and not judged for their sexuality or gender, at least in-canon.” The LGBT+ cast including Frisk, Chara, Napstablook, Monster Kid, Mettaton, Alphys, and Undyne each connected with fans in unique ways. It’s clear how important this is from responses such as: “There are canon nonbinary characters 🥺. i have never seen representation of myself before.” “It made me gay and trans so thanks for that.”
Once again I am overwhelmed with just how much there is to say about Undertale. One responder really understood when they compared Undertale to an iceberg, explaining that there are so many layers to the game that there is something for everyone: “everyone can find something to enjoy in the lore/game regardless of what kind of fan they are! Being able to appeal to various types of fans—from simple happy shipper people to deep dive lorediggers—is the mark of the coolest games!” I would have to agree with them.
It’s been six years, and despite everything, it’s still you. Thank you for reading, participating in this survey, and above all, staying determined.
Highlights:
DETERMINATION became a metaphor for not killing myself at a really rough time in my life and I’ll always cherish that. Undertale isn’t afraid to go to really dark places but at the same time holds on so tight to its hope.
I think the coolest thing was having the opportunity to watch the AU community grow from its bare roots. It's nearly insane how big and complex it's gotten, unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Roll your eyes at the 50th AU Sans all you want, it's encouraging people to step outside the boundaries of fanart and pushing people to make their own ideas! I mean, hell, it was how I gained the confidence to start making my own original content.
i love how the lgbt rep is so naturalized... there are just gay people! and its nobodys business!
The music is my go to answer, but what I really really REALLY love is how the minor characters have so much personality to them when you talk to them. They aren't incredibly important to the overall story, but they're all so likeable and diverse that you just can't help but like them immediately!
I think it was the first videogame I have played that broke the fourth wall that much. Of course there has been other videogames that broke it but just for one or two tongue-in-cheek jokes. The guilt of killing mama goat was also something intense as well that I appreciated as an experience and that I didn't think a videogame could cause on someone.
I love how no character can be seen as completely bad! Everyone builds up Asgore as some horrible villain, but he turns out to be a 'fuzzy pushover' who's broken and just wants his family back by the time you meet him. Then you think Flowey's an irredeemable killer who engineered the suffering of the monsters across many timelines, and he is... but he also used to be the kind and beloved Prince Asriel Dreemurr, traumatized by his death and subsequent rebirth, projecting his best friend onto you.
The fact that choices matter in the game. Your first playthrough and getting the golden ending for the first time. I can never replicate those feelings again, wish I could erase my memories and replay the game from the start.
I wouldn't have met my now husband without Undertale.
(Toxic parts of the fandom aside) The community is possibly one of the kindest I've ever met. Cringe culture is completely dead, and I feel like I can be myself. I felt a very close connection to many of the characters, and I loved consuming content about them when I was in a rough patch in my life.
just everything, the whole game has just impacted my life so much. i know it sounds really lame, but when the game first came out, i would purposely put my hands in my pockets and sway slightly, like sans' idle animation. of course i dont do that anymore haha, but undertale still really impacts me to this day, and i wouldnt have it any other way :)
it made me gay and trans so thanks for that
I realized that Mercy isn't something that's given to those who deserve it. Flowey didn't deserve it. I don't deserve it myself. Shoot, we ALL need Mercy in our lives.
The thing I love most about Undertale is no matter how many times I play or watch a playthrough it always makes me genuinely happy. It always feels welcoming like home or like comfort food that I never grow tired of no matter how many times I go to it. Toriel still makes me feel all warm and cozy in her home, the Skelebros always make me laugh, and I still cry on the inside watching Frisk comforting Asriel. And on the flip side the No Mercy run still invokes the negative emotions in me as well. In short Undertale just feels like a second home to me and I always wish I could stay.
The reader inserts are my favorite way to decompress after a hard day
I think Undertale helped me discover my love for 8-bit games, and made me realize how IMPORTANT music is in video games.
the worldbuilding and character design are my favorite parts of the main game apart from the music! I’m also a huge fan of the random AU music- not for like underswap or underfell i like the stuff where someone makes a megalovania for a random au where gru from despicable me replaces sans as the character. i think its funny
Just... the vibe, honestly? Even the best fics I've read can't capture that feeling of nostalgia/almost-"coming home" that comes with hearing the music and talking to the characters.
there are canon nonbinary characters 🥺. i have never seen representation of myself before.
[SLAMS FIST ON DESK] I KNOW MOST PEOPLE SAY THE FANDOM IS TOXIC AND CRINGE OR WHATEVER BUT OH MY GOD. The Undertale fandom, both the UTMV and the actual UT fandom, has been so much fun to be a part of. I've met countless friends because of our shared interest in something related to the game! The art people create can be breathtaking and so inspirational, and the fanfics are so so good!! I've seen people write incredible things for this fandom and it's what made me continue writing!
There's a scene where Frisk (the player) is going towards what is presumably going to be their death. They will fight Asgore and he will use their human soul to break the barrier and free his people. The music, despite the player's impending doom, is... triumphant. You are not the triumphant one here, and yet, the score invites you to experience the monsters' joy and happiness as they tell you the tale of their subjugation. The monsters are going to be free. This is their victory, but they don't hate you or want you to die. They're just... happy. That scene has always struck me very deeply. I feel it represents the best parts of Undertale.
I loved how well thought out the Geno route was. It really made me feel like I was doing something horrible, and the characters were very obviously reacting to dire circumstances.
I dunno? I like Undertale for it's characters, story, music, secrets and many more. I am not good with Headcanons but I also like the neutral endings and how different they can depending on who you spare and kill
I was very bad at english before, i thought i couldn't progress because i was very shy and not confident. But my sibling and i wanted to have the best experience with this game so we wanted to play it in english. It's this game and the fandom which helped me to make huge progress in english !
THE SOUNDTRACK. IT'S SO GOOD like I will literally go through the entire thing over and over and not be bored with it. It makes my monkey brain so happy you have no idea.
to avoid writing an essay i will say one word. Mettaton
It is like Toby specifically made the games to fit the iceberg meme and it's awesome, everyone can find something to enjoy in the lore/game regardless of what kind of fan they are! Being able to appeal to various types of fans - from simple happy shipper people to deep dive lorediggers is the mark of the coolest games!
I love almost everything about Undertale as a game on its own. The music, the art and especially the characters and how they interact. They made me feel at home. Undertale means a huge amount to me. (I even got a tattoo of the castle when you and MK walk together!) The fandom helped keep the game alive all these years, with all of its AUs. Although personally, I always enjoyed AUs that kept characters as close to the classic material as possible (dancetale, outertale) I do appreciate the creativity of the fandom. They almost created entirely new stories with new characters of their own! If it weren't for those people, the Undertake fandom would have probably not been as active as it is now. I do feel like we're getting a resurgence of classic content now too! (In 2021)
the mystery. toby fox refused to give answers to anything and i think thats very sexy of him.
I just feel guilty for liking it so much when I'm in my 30's. But I recently got diagnosed with ASD, so I guess it explains things a bit. Many ppl consider Papyrus to be neurodivergent, and some adult fans are too, so seeing that makes me feel a bit better.
i think about "Despite everything, it's still you" everyday of my life.
I like how it's just as funny as it can be serious. All routes are this way. I laughed as much as I cried when I played the Pacifist route and then once I opened the game again and Flowey was telling me to let them be happy, I immediately turned off the game. I somehow felt bad.
The Found Family Trope
The True Pacifist Ending is just...man. And the fanworks about saving everyone even when the game doesn't let you? MANNNNNN
I think what I like the most about Undertale is how the music attaches you to the story. They're simple melodies that stick with you throughout the whole game, and they can remind you of both good and bad times.
there's honestly a LOT to love about this game, but i think one of my favorite things about it is just how many lgbt+ characters there are??? i can think of alphys, undyne, frisk, chara, mettaton, napstablook, monster kid, asgore, mad mew mew, the dress lion, the royal guards, and arguably even papyrus off of the top of my head, but im sure i'm forgetting a few from just undertale alone (there's even MORE in deltarune)!! it's practically unheard of to see so MANY from just one source, especially during its heyday in 2015-16. hell, you can't even GET the true pacifist ending without helping two gay couples hook up. it's really nice to see all of them being accepted for who they are and not judged for their sexuality or gender, at least in-canon.

thoughts on tales through time: issue #2 - strong medicine
as per usual, spoilers under the cut!
i'll be honest. don't have a lot to say about this one. booker is in the wild west and beats up some guys. that's pretty much it. however, i still do have some things to say:
number one. everyone calling booker english even after he told them he's french killed me. how do you even mix the two up. i cannot figure it out. funniest part of the whole issue
number two. the panels when booker first enters the town where he's looking at the men who have been hung? and thinking about his own hanging? yeah....
Tumblr media
booker, comparatively, isn't that old. in this, set in september 1870, he's only been immortal for just over half a century (58 years, i checked). your first death has gotta be pretty traumatising, i think andy even mentions it in the comics (cannot remember which) as something you don't forget. i don't know where this is going but just. a thought.
i also liked how it shows booker's telegram to andy. more fun character things. i found it kinda hard to follow while i was reading so here's the full text (i added punctuation + paragraph breaks for ease of reading):
"My friend Andromache. Have been diverted by weather and other matters. Will join you in San Francisco as soon as is practical.
Something gnaws at me. Like a string that has been plucked. I need to hear the note it sounds.
In any event I am compelled here, though as yet I am unsure why. I expect I will find out why soon enough.
This strange life we lead must have a purpose. These strings always pull us to where we must be. Is each pluck of the string another note in a symphony? But I must confess, my friend, the conductor of the symphony just may not be very good at his trade.
That notion gives me pause. That we are not directed by a grand design. That our destiny is just a chaos that ultimately means nothing.
What I must do here feels necessary. But I am at a loss to see what may come of this affair."
there is so much to unpack here! firstly, the idea that they're somehow compelled to be where they need to be is interesting i guess, but this also might be booker having thoughts about immortality and not anything to overanalyse. it also sure does show booker's general.... difference to, let's say nicky, in ideas about immortality and what it all means. it's kind of exactly what i would expect from booker but it's also interesting to see his thoughts on the subject i suppose
secondly, what he must do? save a doctor from getting murdered. what will come of this affair? well. here's the last panel:
Tumblr media
i really love the new perspective that this puts the events of opening fire/the movie into. i remember a post floating around a while ago about how copley actually found out about the old guard in the first place, because.... how do you find that. but the idea that dr. milford merrick-
(i'm sorry. pausing the train of thought. i cannot stop laughing at the name milford.)
(back to this very serious and sensible review post.)
the idea that milford told his children about the time booker saved him, and this getting back to merrick and merrick therefore investigating? i like it a lot actually. shows the Butterfly Effect idea the movie introduces us to except in a... less good way.
anyway, that concludes this review post. apparently i was lying about not having a lot to say.
see y'all next month for tales through time issue #3: passchendaele and lacus solitudinis!

ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴍᴇ
Most of you know this already. Hi. I’m KW. She/Her. I will never post my full age publicly (as I don’t even share my real name) but I am well over the age of 25.
When I am not writing--I am working full time and taking care of my regular life. It takes me time to get back to comments/asks/replies, but I promise I’m not ignoring you. Please be patient with me. ❤️
My writings in general are now mainly on AO3, but I sometimes cross post onto here, too. You can only leave a comment on AO3 if you are a registered user. It is currently public for all to view, which is subjective to change if people can’t act right. Most things are crossposted though.
Tumblr media

Do not alter, repost, or modify my original works or translate them in any way shape or form as they all belong to me even if the characters don’t. If I catch you reposting my works ANYWHERE, even if you credit my old @ or my current one—I will take action to get it removed. If you enjoy the content I provide for free, the least you can do is be respectful of my wishes.
Do not ever recommend my stories on TikTok. You do not have my permission to do this, ever. Respect my decision to keep my works away from that app. Thanks.
This blog is 17+. I don't feel comfortable having super young people following me, even if my blog isn't strictly NSFW. If you are under 17 years old and I see that you are interacting with me or my content, you will be soft-blocked or flat out blocked even if you're interacting with non-NSFW stuff. These are the boundaries I want to set for my blog, and I thank you for respecting them and me. ❤️ That said...if you are 17 and trying to talk to me about NSFW stuff that I've written or in general, etc--I will not be answering you or engaging. If you continue to cross that boundary, I will have to block you.
Please be responsible and safe about the content you consume online. Proceed with caution and block tags as necessary, as I will try my best to tag everything. See my tag list for more information. The rest of that responsibility is up to you. If I ever miss something or something is triggering, you can kindly point it out to me and I'll get to it when I can. I'm only human so I'm sure I miss stuff sometimes! Otherwise, please be safe on this blog.
It may take me time to reply back to everyone’s asks as I work full-time and am otherwise just adulting when I'm not on here. If I ever miss something, I do apologize. I get back to everyone when I can normally. I ask that if you send me an ask regarding your personal life etc. that you use your discretion; please be aware of what you are unloading in my inbox (aka pretty please do not trauma dump in my inbox), and do not tell me too much about your personal life. While I appreciate your trust, I just ask that you use discernment and some thought and careful consideration. ❤️
If you want to send me an ask and you do not want me to post it publicly on my blog, add this ❌ emoji and I will answer you privately. NOTE: this does NOT work with anons!
Please do not ask me about ThatStory. Yes, you know the one (and if you don’t, don’t worry about it). Unless you are letting me know about reposts, I very much want to to leave everything that happened with that behind me. It was a horrible and stressful enough experience that I never want to revisit it again.
If you catch people reposting that story or any other story of mine as people frequently do, you are more than welcome to send me an ask regarding it. I really do appreciate when people tell me. It is by no means an obligation though (meaning please do not take free time out of your day to search for copies, I don’t expect anyone to do this for me.)
I am only on tumblr under this name, and AO3 under kw_writings. My writing should not be anywhere else anymore except for ao3 and here when *I* post it. If you know of anyone reposting my works anywhere else, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know so I can work to take it down!
I only write female reader x character because it is what I feel the most confident and comfortable writing. I do not write character x character, or character x reader x character, or any ships etc.
I don't take requests on this blog; I only take suggestions for Dad-vi stories.

How Entrapta Has Become My All Time Favourite Autistic Representation in Media: Long Version
Just so you know what to expect, this is more of a very long and boring personal post and less of a character analysis. By "very long", I mean "very long". Also, half of it was written at night when I was supposed to be sleeping (like, right now), so some parts might not even make sense. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Just days before I started to watch She-Ra, I answered a question in a writer group where someone asked what are the do's and don'ts of writing an autistic character. I've been told a couple of times in my life that I can’t be autistic based on the fact that I'm not really interested in or good at science, so I think special interests of autistic people are something that definitely has to be presented better in media. So I advised this person to make their character have a special interest that's NOT related to science, technology, space or computers, because it's a very common misconception that people on the autism spectrum are always into these stuff, and there are so many autistic fictional characters based on this stereotype that I feel like we absolutely don't need any more.
And then I saw Entrapta.
I didn't know she's canonically autistic until a much later episode, but it didn't surprise me when I was told she is, because my autism radar went off like a hundred times while watching System Failure and all her other season 1 appearances (so did my ADHD radar, by the way, but as far as I know, this hasn't been confirmed by the creators, so it's just my headcanon). And she looked like the purple ponytails princess version of the autism stereotype that I didn’t want to see any more of. The genius who is into space and robots, knows nothing about human relationships and keeps driving everyone nuts with her long and impossible-to-follow scientific monologues. Also cute and funny, yeah, but still, as someone on the spectrum who is super artistic and has nothing to do with science stuff, my first reaction was "dang, not this shit again." Just for once in my life, I wanted to see an autistic representation that's not just that typical weird tech-lover but a character that's at least a tiny bit more like me. Seeing her only in her first episode, little did I know that Entrapta's character has an incredible depth and her whole arc was going to be hair-raisingly personal to me (I know I'm not funny, but pun intended).
First, let’s talk about robots, because we can't talk about Entrapta without talking about robots. Entrapta builds robots just for fun, because technology is her thing, but there's actually a lot more behind this. Starting from as early as her debute episode, we see through the whole series that she creates robots with different designs, abilities, personalities, very similar to real people, as a sort of substitute for the human (or whatever species) company she'd wish to have. She even gives them names. She programs them to like being around her, to understand her, something that she hasn't really experienced from real people, which is sad enough on its own, but even sadder if we consider that she actually has human staff working at her fortress. She pretty literally makes friends, and she does it with the help of her special interest. And this totally reminds me of my primary school years when I had zero real friends and used my special interest, which was writing fictional stories and creating worlds/universes/languages in my head, to make up imaginary characters that could be my "friends" so that I wouldn't be that lonely.
Then, her interactions with other characters, especially with Hordak. Entrapta consoling Hordak in Huntara is a very powerful scene to me, not only what she says, but also how she says it. When Hordak starts venting about how he is a failure and all, Entrapta's first immediate response is to provide a practical solution, to design an armor for him, and comforting him with words is only a secondary action. She's helping in her own way, with technology, because that's what she's the best at, but she also wants to make sure he understands that fixing imperfections isn't always the solution, embracing them is. I also love how it's hinted with the "loved" crystal that Entrapta's love language may be acts of service (and probably quality time as well), which is another thing we have in common. And there's another thing in that scene I found very relatable: that part when she stops consoling him and starts to talk about herself being a failure instead. In real life, most people would read that in a negative way. I've been in many situations where I've tried doing something similar to people who were venting to me, and normally, they're like "ew, I'm the one complaining now, stop making it about you." But Hordak's reaction is different, all he does is try to tell her she's not a failure before she shushes him, then he just listens. He understands what Entrapta means by saying all those things about herself isn't "hey, look, my life is also horrible, so I get to complain, too" but rather "I feel you, we're the same". For a person who thinks and acts as differently from average people as Entrapta does, connecting with someone through similar experiences and feelings is a huge thing, and this is so relatable to me that I cried like a baby while watching that scene. Also, kudos to Christine Woods for making Entrapta's monologue sound so factual and casual. It really gives the impression of someone who is fully aware of her own strengths and weaknesses and accepts herself as a whole with all her flaws. The way she lists all the things that make her feel like a failure right after saying "imperfection is beautiful" is just... wow. But seriously, this whole "imperfection is beautiful" thing in general is such a cliché that it's not even supposed to work on me, but hell it does, because it's so well-presented that it's actually one of the most powerful moments of the whole series. Entrapta giving me self-acceptance lessons is all I've ever needed in my life (Hordak probably agrees, lol).
Speaking of self-acceptance, I also love how Beast Island shows that it's a long and difficult process with its ups and downs instead of just a door you walk through once in your life and then stay on the other side forever. Even if I accept and love myself the way I am, it's still totally normal to have low points with thoughts like "I'm not suited for friendship" or "everyone leaves me behind". And it's very nice and uplifting to have someone's love and support when I'm in a bad mood with stuff like this on my mind, but personally, I often find it easier to deal with if I have something related to any of my special interests around that I can focus my thoughts on. My "we flew here on an ancient First Ones ship, do you wanna see it?" would be something like "do you wanna create some characters and then write the shit out of them?" and before this show I've never actually realised how neurodiverse it is to use a hobby or interest for self-care like this. The "definitely the ship" part called me out so hard, and I just adore how the writers were able put so much meaning into a single joke line.
Back to interactions, there's also something painfully relatable in the way the other princesses treat Entrapta. Even in the beginning in No Princess Left Behind, but mostly in season 4 and 5. In most cases, Entrapta is only considered to be worthy enough to not be left behind in situations when her skills are useful. Other characters "liking" her isn't really about herself as a person but her tech knowledge. Just like when you go to school and the only reason your classmates want to make friends with you is because you always do your homework and let others copy it, or you're good at explaining stuff and are willing to help people getting prepared for tests/exams. When I was in grammar school, my classmates ignored me or mocked me for liking animation and comics, but every now and then they did the bare minimum of treating me like a human being and expected me to do their arts homework in return, because I was the only one in my class who was good at arts. When I studied linguistics at the uni, I was really into phonology and historical linguistics, and those were the compulsory subjects most of the other students were struggling with, so many people wanted to hang out with me just to make sure they could get my notes before the exams. The same people kept calling me nerd and making fun of me behind my back. I also had a few genuine friends, which I'm grateful for, but I still know what it feels like to be needed only for a specific skill while not being noticed and respected as a person, and Launch portraits this experience in a very clever way. It's so amazing to see how the princesses realise who Entrapta really is and start to treat her as someone who just thinks differently instead of someone who's a deliberate bad person. They finally get to see that she's not just an unwary tech nerd, but also a determined, caring and loyal friend who gives others so much love in her own geeky way and deserves love, too. But I shouldn't even be surprised, I mean, we're talking about a show that teaches us "you worth more than what you can give to other people," and it's great how this message applies to other characters as well, not only to Adora. And the best part is that this whole conflict is not presented as something black and white, it's not like Entrapta is the poor misunderstood autistic person and the princesses are the evil allistic bad guys who mistreat her. It's simply a miscommunication between neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals, and while the other princesses get to understand that they hurt Entrapta by their actions and that they should be more respectful of her, Entrapta also realises that she's made mistakes and hurt people, becomes aware of her own bad habits and makes efforts to get rid of them in order to save Glimmer. Plus I also love the faint implication that most of the princesses never really, genuinely, 100% make friends with Entrapta even after this scene, because sometimes people just don't resonate with each other enough to become close friends, but they learn to accept her differences and treat her with respect, nonetheless. This episode is so full of realistic interactions and character development it blows my mind every time I rewatch it.
I could just go on and on about all those tiny relatable details such as "I've waited years for someone to ask me about my theories!" I think this was the line that first made me fall in love with Entrapta's character. I mean, if someone from the crew wrote this line, that means they might know the feeling, too, so I'm not the only dork who feels this way every time someone asks me a question about my hyperfixations. And it's just so reassuring. Entrapta has many lines of the kind, they're not even important plotwise, but still super relatable and validating.
Now that we're here, and I know that I probably should have said this at the beginning of the post, but I'm too lazy to rewrite the first paragraph accordingly, I'd like to note that these are all my own interpretations and reflections on Entrapta's character based on my own experiences. This whole thing is totally personal, and I don't want anyone to think that this is how Entrapta is supposed to be seen by the whole fandom. So yeah, that's pretty much it for now.

"But I’m not going to stop doing the fun parts of fandom just because the text isn’t going to validate me." Yes, it's quite clear you don't care about the text and just want to spread your headcanon as widely as possible. It's so annoying. Mostly because you won't admit how subjective it really is, and how little it has to do with canon.
Okay, so I think I understand better now what the problem is, so thanks for that?
(Seriously. I misunderstood, and it was making me second-guess things, and I was second-guessing in the wrong direction, and that’s just going to annoy you more while giving me more to obsess over.)
To be honest, I don’t think I HAVE much reach- I have under 400 followers at the sideblog where I’ve done 99% of my post-Endgame speculation and meta, and most of those posts didn’t get many notes. As a result, while I’ve tried to include caveats, I haven’t been as careful as I could have been with qualifying what I said, precisely because it didn’t seem like there was a lot of spread, there was just me trying to come up with ways to make canon not hurt anymore, because I was really, really upset at the end of Endgame. I assume if you don’t like what I say you’re not following me, which means someone nearby who DOES agree with me is, and I admittedly was not considering that even one level of reblogs out it could already be irritating. I’m trying to think of a way I can make my theorizing clearer as things that would make me feel better about the text, rather than what I expect the future of the verse to be. I want to have fun with what I can do for as long as I can, but my goal isn’t to be preaching some kind of expectations at an unwilling audience.
In terms of the rest of what you said- I don’t think I care about the text any more or less than anyone else. Like everyone in fandom, I pick and choose the parts that resonate with me, and dive deep into those while sidelining the parts I don’t care about, and engage like that without caring whether or not the text ultimately goes in the direction I think it should. (I’ve been assuming that’s what everyone does, TBH, and realizing I’m wrong in that IS making me think that I should reframe my approach to have a clearer starting point, but I’m not sure what that would be.) I do get frustrated with people who don’t reference the text, not because I think I’m more right, but because I want to know where they got it so that I can get there too. I absolutely agree interpretations are subjective, I just want to see the path.
I guess the one part I still don’t see is why my subjectiveness is more or less irritating than basically everyone else’s. Am I off-base in thinking it has to do with me tending to try to frame my speculation as meta (clearly working from the text) rather than pouring it into fic? I don’t think people read fic expecting that the author believes the content will happen on screen. The truth is, I’m just not as good at fic; I obsess over each line in a way I don’t pouring things into a “what if?” tumblr post that enumerates the ways I could feel okay with the way my fave’s run ended.
Anyway, I don’t know if this was intended as such, but you’re giving me a lot to think about, specifically in terms of how fandom currently operates, and how my approach can be altered to work with current expectations of fannish discussion, without giving up the part where I look at what’s laid out in front of me and saying “How can I make this become what I need?” and wait for someone to “Yes, and...” me.

How incorrect tagging contributes to SPN ship wars
@radioabsurd left this very impassioned rant about the behavior of SPN fandom in the main tags.  Let me point out that there are things here, that I would say are correct.  There are things however, that I am not happy with.  I am not certain about this person's sincerely.  Let me put it that way.  I edited bits that contained blasphemy because I don't want that nonsense in my post.  I also added bold font to the bits that made me smirk.  Other than that, everything is as it appears.  My commentary is in italics and brackets.  Thank to doll face for forwarding this to me.
Supernatural Fandom
If you hate the actual angel Jensen Ackles, don’t talk to me, like my shit or any of that.
[A polite suggestion for people to ignore her]
If you hate the actual angel Misha Collins, fuck off and don’t talk to me or like my shit.
[Disrespecting Misha warrant the use of profanity.]
If you hate on the actual angel Jared Padalecki, please block me or you will get blocked.
[A please is thrown in, so the politeness is back.  Also, note the order in which these actors are mentioned.  Any other person would mention Misha last.  But no, Jared gets last place, like an afterthought.]
I’m so tired of this hate people give each other in the fandom with the ship wars and shit.
[Honey, I would like to point out that all the hate, especially the violent ones directed to the actors, comes solely from the destiel shippers.  Everyone else retaliates.]
I FUCKING ship #destiel and #cockles, but in no way do I think J2 are not important to each other. They are the bestest of friends. In no way do I hate on Daneel, Vicki, or Gen(They are all actually queens).
[Well, at least you agree that the Js friendship is hated on by the Misha shippers.  The wife hate is a landmine.  Do people hate the wives because they ship the boys or because they genuinely found nothing to like in the wives?  I don't really care much for an actor's relatives.  But if the boys are happy, whatever rocks their boats.  Besides, who they marry is not my business.  Out of sight.  Out of mind.  If I like them, I would have no reason to go overboard and call them 'queens'.  But that is just my opinion on the subject.  Julia Roberts was never called a queen, despite her success.  Just pointing that out.  Do I think they deserve any hate?  I don't know them well enough to answer that one.  But if you put yourself out there, you are going to get the bad attention with the good.  As long as the hate doesn't extend to death threats, I say freedom of speech.  Just tag it appropriately.]
Even If I don’t ship #wincest I’m not going to FUCKING hate on somebody for their ship because guess what! I FUCKING ship #thorki and #t'cherik and wow I must be such a disgusting human being but these are freaking fictional characters and aren’t real! (Not talking about real people ships)
[This seems friendly enough until you get to the second mention of this topic.]
If you don’t agree with something please FUCKING get over it and block it or ignore it.
[You should see the replies I get, from hellers I call out of tagging incorrectly.  They don't block or ignore.]
Jeez, and all the ships hate on the wives and the other people on the show, not just one ship. XXXX, why am I even in this fandom.
[I concur.  There are haters of ships and people.  But unless you go into their appropriate tags, you will never find them.  Guess who tags all their hateful filth, including calling Jensen a homophobe, in the main tags? Yep, the destihellers.]
Also, if I get freaking hate on shipping #thorki (they’re not even real brothers okay, get over it) or #t'cherik (in the comics theyre not cousins thank you very much) and your in the supernatural fandom then your actually the problem.
[I don't know how to tell you this, but Sam and Dean are not real brothers either.  They are fictional.  So basically, in an offhanded manner, you have kind of insulted the people, you are telling others not to insult.  Just thought I would point that out.]
haters get on my nerves 👌🏽
[You are absolutely right.  I cant stand them either.  Especially the ones who tell Jared to kill himself and threaten to kill Jensen.  All destihellers.  I don't deal with haters as much.  Because I believe it is your prerogative to hate whoever you want.  As long as you tag it properly.  But I draw the line at death threats, because the hate has moved into malevolent territory.  That is why I don't go onto the anti tags.  Let them hate.  But when possible felony becomes an issue, I speak up.]
(there might be spelling errors but that’s life so what eves)
 [True!  My typing is atrocious.]
Tumblr media
My issue with this rant:
I appreciate the effort.  Don't get me wrong.  But there are issues presenting themselves here.  This rant is addressed to the entire fandom.  The problem is that is doesn't differentiate between the instigators and the retaliators.  There is an assumption, within the rant, that everyone should like the same things in the same manner without personal opinion or prejudice.  And to be honest, that kind of uniformity in human psychology, is unheard of in human societies.  We are all different.  We cannot be expected to enthusiastically love anyone or anything unless we have been given viable reason to.  The other baffling thing on this post is the anti Vicki tag.  Interestingly, there is no other post with this tag.  As far as I can see, nobody hates Victoria.  People are generally quite indifferent towards her.
So you are basically giving fandom and onlookers the impression that this woman gets hated when, in reality, she doesn't even force a blimp in the radar.  The only time I saw her being discussed, was when I watched in bemused amazement , as J2 tinhats were comparing her to one of the Js wives and talking about how much more nicer she was and how they respected her more.  So those particular J fans don't hate Victoria.  Do Misha's fans hate her?  If so, how are they tagging their hate.  I haven't seen anything.
You post makes no mention of actor harassment, cast and crew harassment, threats of arson and vandalism and actual attacks on fans by other fans.  There is a different between someone saying ''I cant stand Vicky'' and ''I am going to burn Vicky's home down, while she is still in it''.  A similar arson threat was sent to Jensen by a Misha fan.  Receipts for this, and other threats, are on my blog.  To my logic, death threats are a more pressing issue than hate.  All of the aforementioned are by destiel shipping and Misha stanning perpetrators.  To people who are not aware of this reality, if they read this post, they will assume that everyone in the fandom is hateful.  They won't know about the truth.  So no, all the shippers do not have an equal hand in trouble making.  There are some that are worse than others.
Finally, your tagging is contradictory and troublesome.  Tumblr recognizes 30 tags only, but the most effective are the first five.  For a post of this nature, you shouldn't have tagged Danneel twice.  Danneel has fans from her other endeavors. like One Tree Hill, who are not SPN fans.  They don't need to see this drama, which has nothing to do with them.  So that tag is a general/main tag and you should stay out of it.  The last two tags are for ships outside our fandom, and basically what you have done, by including those tags, is exposed outsiders to the dirty laundry that this fandom is known for.  This is where SPN's faulty reputation comes from.  ''Mentions'' is also a very widely used external tag.  It has not an SPN related tag, neither is it related to this post.  Tagging this post under that tag, also brings this fandom into disrepute.  The tags on this post, does this fandom no favors.
The post is not a hate post, [you are reprimanding all and sundry over putrid behavior] and therefore does not belong in the anti tags.  If you are trying to right the wrongs of this fandom, do it in the main ship tags, for the whole shipping section of fandom to see.  You cant tell people how to feel about someone.  And posting this particular rant in the anti tags, is essentially you telling those people not to hate whoever they genuinely cant stand.  If you are talking about a ship, tag the ship.  If you tag your post #anti Jensen, you are telling people, this post is about why I hate Jensen.  That is the point of that tag.  That is not exactly what your post is about, is it?  Now I tag in the main tags, and not in the anti tags because I tackle any subject that is going to cause a death threat to reach Jensen.  That is the policy behind my tagging system.  Your tagging system doesn't seem to make sense.  You cant tag Jensen and anti Jensen.  These two tags contradict each other.
Don't tag the characters on a TV show, because that is not what your post is about.  People who are non-shipping fans of Dean Winchester, don't want to be bombarded with this shipping-related rant.  This is not courteous to them.  Also, if you misspell a tag, the tag has consequently been rendered useless.  So there is essentially no point in having that tag.  Just replace or remove it.  Its not that hard.  Also, I don't think you know what a bibro is.  There are non-shippers amongst them.  So why are they a part of this ship-war rant?  You can't tag SPN or Supernatural, because the entire fandom doesn't need to see this.  The entire fandom are not shippers.  You were not addressing the entire fandom, so leave them out of it.  In fact, your title is incorrect too.
Judging by the crux of your post, the tags should have been:
Destiel, Wincest, Cockles, J2 Tinhats, Wincestiel
All the ship names are present.  So anyone who is involved with these ships will read them and understand.  If you want to add more tags [which I don't recommend] then add the following:
Sabriel, sastiel
I would tag these two ships because they are ships that three actors are a part of.  I don't recommend tagging the actor's names, because the post is not about them, but about shipper behavior.  They are merely mentioned as the motivation behind the hate, by your logic.  Their names are still general tags, and people searching Jared Padalecki might hate shipping and this post will give credulity to their hatred because it is invasive and makes shippers looks bad....well, worse would be the apt word to use.
I am conflicted about the motive of the rant.  No, I don't believe any of the actors are ''actual angels''.  They are human and flawed, some more than others.  I don't think their wives of sovereign control of anything.  But I appreciate the effort in bridge-building.  The doll face that sent me this, found the wincest remark offensive, but I am willing to give your the benefit of the doubt on that one, because I assume it was an honest mistake.  I am not a wincest fan though, which I why I am reacting a little differently.  Perhaps, because I am not emotionally invested.
P.S.:  Speaking of wincest, someone told me that even wincest ship posts are being tagged with the actor's and character's names.  I don't care what you ship, but by using general tags, you are not driving on your lane.  Stop mistagging.  Unless Jared Padalecki is really pregnant with someone's lovechild, don't tag him in an mpreg post.  I don't think he wants people knowing about his baby bump.  Tag politely.  Tags like Top!Sam and Bottom!Cas are NOT general tags, so that is ok.  But Sam Winchester and Jared Padalecki, for example, are general tags, so keep your shippy stuff away from it.  Wincest fans, its your job to clean house.
The reason why I am lenient with the wincest ship and J2 tinhatters, is because they are not repeat and frequent offenders, and they don't send death threats to actors.  In fact, if you search the wincest tag, you find a small handful of offenders, and a destiel offender who tagged her post weecest and wincest even though it was about destiel.  Now, why do that?
Respect the tags.  Respect the actors.  Stop behaving like SPN owes you something, and keep your fantasy on your side of the fandom.
Please excuse the typos.

How does one write meta? I am someone who is terrible at critical analyses and has trouble even finding themes in books (eng lit was hell for me!!) but I would love write meta for shows/movies. I just don't know what to look for and how to break it down. Please help me, if you don't mind! I want to be able to articulate/explain why I like or don't like and what I think about the work, character, relationship or topic. I feel like I need a guideline. Also how do you know if a work has substance?
Uh…….
Welp, if all your years of education including, evidently, college hasn’t taught you how to critically read a text (written or media) and write about it in a way that you feel confident in, then I seriously doubt there’s anything I can say in a single post to instill that confidence. That said, I can say what and how I do it, more or less.
1. Watch the thing. A lot. And then some more.
My typical schedule for when Hannibal aired in S2 (I wasn’t posting regularly in S1 and S3 was over summer so my schedule got shot all to hell) was to watch the episode the night it aired (Friday), read the questions I’d get about it in my inbox, watch it again right after, get up in the morning on Saturday and read the next set of questions, watch it AGAIN, start drafting answers, and watch it again at least once more that day and two or three times on Sunday. I would get an Amazon copy of the episode so when I wrote anything about any detail in it, I would go find that spot and rewatch it again, maybe two or three times. So my meta responses, unless it was something super quick and easy, typically had no less than five viewings. After the end of a week, no less than ten or twelve.
At this point, I’ve watched “Aperitif” 27 times just for my job. Overall I think it’s around 70. Meta is time-consuming.
(A small tangent: This–along with the fact that each ask I answered tended to spawn two or three more asks–is something that informed my occasional testiness when someone would come along, say something inaccurate that would mislead or confuse people, and then, when I would say something to them about it, would say, “This is only my opinion!” or “I’m not writing for school!” or “I’ve only watched it once and I just wanted to share my feelings!” or “All interpretations are valid and equal!” Well, some of us are putting in a lot of time and effort into our interpretations and into helping people understand things before and in the process of publishing meta, and others’ lack of these directly makes my work more difficult and time-consuming. It’s frustrating.)
2. Look for patterns.
Hannibal has fairly obvious patterns because Bryan Fuller is many things, but–generally speaking–subtle he is not. So you see the same lines repeated (”They know”), the same images repeated (eyeballs with reflections), the same strains of music (go go Brian Reitzell), the same general topics (transformation, consumption, the human propensity for violence, God), and so forth. But this is true in all texts: if it bears repeating, it will bear examining. This is where themes (in books or otherwise) come from, along with the kinds of lessons that characters learn (or should have learned) through their experiences.
3. Back up your opinions with text.
If you can’t back it up with text, you don’t have meta. You have headcanon. And sometimes headcanons are just wrong interpretations not because anything in the text directly counters them them, but because multiple things point toward countering them. Interpretations are fine, but they need to have multiple and/or significant portions of text to support them.
I occasionally get into “the author is dead” debates with people, but as a rule of thumb, if you want to maintain any respectability in this endeavor, imo it’s worthwhile to look at a thing from the perspective of what you think the authors (including actors, directors, writers, etc) were trying to accomplish, and then look for details that support that. So like the “Bedelia cut off her own leg” argument–in the sense that you can’t definitively argue that she didn’t cut off her own leg, since they don’t show on screen who did, the claim that she cut it off herself is weaker than the claim that Hannibal and/or Will did it for her. There are pieces of evidence that imply that Hannibal and/or Will did it, but there is only conjecture to support that Bedelia herself did (”she could have…” this that, or the other). You cannot argue from an absence of evidence, and the evidence of an author’s thinking will be there, in the details.
4. Study, look things up, and learn to write and argue.
If Hannibal decides to quote Nietzsche, it don’t matter that you ain’t read Nietzsche in twenty-odd years and never read that particular piece at all. Go do your research, cuz somebody gonna ask. Not only that, but somebody gonna read that shit that is a fuggin philosophy major, so you better get your goddam ducks in a sweet little tidy row.
Read what other people write about the topic you want to write about. If you want to write MCU meta, get your ass in the MCU meta tag (or whatever it is that they use) and read what people are saying. Some of them are going to be hella smart and help you understand things you didn’t know you misunderstood.
Same with writing. Learn to do that shit, if you don’t know already, on all levels: we’re dealing with ideas here, but there are also organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions. Reread and edit your shit. I recommend being linear in your organization–I’ve known people who wrote beautiful meta that you wouldn’t ever get any sense of what the point is till the absolute end. Don’t do that to people. Make a point, support it, draw a conclusion. Writing 101 stuff.
Learn to recognize logical fallacies so that you don’t do them when you don’t want to, and so that when you do want to, you can hide them so people won’t call you out on them. And so that you can call out others on them.
Make no mistake: meta is argument. It’s only pretending to be expository.
With that in mind, know what you’re capable of. If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch. Especially if you’re easily hurt and/or have self-esteem issues. So much of fandom is all about lovey feelings and not leaving unasked-for criticism on people’s fic and all that–and I support that–but meta is an exception to this. It just is. Everyone is going to be jumping for a chance to tell you how wrong you are, even if they don’t write meta themselves and only watched the show once and just have feelings.
5. Know your audience.
Here’s an example of what I mean: I received an ask some years ago about whether or not Hannibal ever was in love with Bedelia, maybe even just a little? Even if it wasn’t like how he feels about Will???
Look, I’m a Hannigram shipper, and I wasn’t making any bones about that matter at the time I got that ask. But obviously that was from someone who shipped Bedannibal and really just wanted their poor soul to be soothed, and I can guarandamntee you I found some way to answer yes, in a way that was honest and that I could textually support, even though I myself would not call that relationship “in love.”
If you can, be on the side of your readers. They will be the people who are asking you questions. It doesn’t hurt to demonstrate kindness, as much as you can, without sacrificing the integrity of what you have to say as a meta writer. I’ll be the first to say I’ve made a lot of enemies on this blog because of various arguments I’ve gotten into, and I haven’t always known how important this is. But the people who come to you with questions deserve the best you can possibly give them.
How do you know when a work has substance?
It should be able to check several if not all of the following boxes:
Addresses the human condition in a non-trivial way (needs to be arguable and worth arguing about)
Contains complex characterization (no black and white major characters)
Displays text complexity (you gotta put in some effort to get it)
Exercises intertextuality (allusions to the greater world, other texts, history, etc.)
Displays artistic quality (in all areas: writing, cinematography, acting, etc.)
Utilizes multiple varying artistic tools (metaphor, symbolism in writing, for example, or an appropriate variety of camera angles)
Controls and maintains a tone appropriate to subject and message
Note that being contextually relevant (dealing with important social issues) is not something that I listed here. Many on Tumblr would say that it should be. You should be at least vaguely aware of how your particular venue (Tumblr vs. reddit, for example) is going to affect your audience’s expectations of such things.
