Some sort of crown gall, maybe Rhodococcus fascians? On invasive himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera).

It had infected about a 20 metre stretch of balsam, in the middle of a 100 metre strip of balsams in a verge. It looks very weird and alien and I can't find pictures online of it, so maybe this will help someone out. 20th September, after an unusually hot early-sept and then absolutely battering rain that flooded locally.

In a stunning example of plant adaptability, a seed from a rare species of tree has been found hanging from a cliff face in Nepal – more than 600 feet above the ground.

The seed, which is from the Himalayan balsam tree (Impatiens glandulifera), was found by Nepalese climber Dawa Steven Sherpa as he scaled a cliff in the country's Annapurna region.

The Himalayan balsam is a fast-growing annual plant that is native to the Himalayan region. It is considered an invasive species in many parts of the world, including Nepal, where it is known to crowd out native plants.

The tree produces large, flat seeds that are easily dispersed by the wind. It is believed that the seed found by Sherpa was blown onto the cliff face by a gust of wind and then became lodged in a crevice.

While it is not known how long the seed had been hanging from the cliff, it is clear that it had germinated and was beginning to grow. This is an amazing feat, considering the harsh conditions at that altitude, including strong winds and intense sunlight.
