hi there! if you are a fan of the witcher in general or specifically the witcher book series, you may have found it difficult to find book-related art, textposts, edits, and other posts in the main #witcher or #the witcher tags on tumblr, as adaptations and non-adaptations also bearing the witcher name (e.g., netflix or games) tend to dominate those tags.
the results of the poll conducted earlier this week concluded that #the witcher books should be the tag (at least, here on tumblr) to both find and post posts related to the book series.
as the tag designations stand:
#the witcher books : books-related posts | all languages
#wiedźmin : all mediums | polish language content, or posts with no language (e.g., visual art or edits, which would not hinder a search)
of course, it is up to each person's individual discretion whether or not to use the book tag, especially if their posts contain or are about multiple mediums, but there have typically been few issues with keeping the tag book-centered, so this isn't really a worry as of now.
the reason for this post is to let people in the witcher fandom know that there is a books tag, if they are looking for books-focused content, or want to post books-focused content themselves.

how this was decided
after both a poll and conversations amongst the community, many came to the conclusion to use #the witcher books as the tag for content about the book series.
here, i will describe the poll results and boost some voices and opinions i thought were significant in this decision.
poll results
there were two primary contenders for book witcher tags on tumblr: #wiedźmin and #the witcher books.
#the witcher books won with nearly 40% of all responders, and together, over 70% of all responders were in favor of either only using #the witcher books or using both tags.
this decision, however, does not mean that one should not tag their witcher books posts with #wiedźmin. the decision was for #wiedźmin to remain an all mediums tag, and for #the witcher books to be the book community's main go-to to post and search book-related content. but read the below for more context.
commentary and opinions
in this post, i also wanted to include some reasoning behind this decision and foster discussion within the community about this topic. (as a note, i will be using the term 'anglophone' in this post now to mean those who speak english but do not speak polish)
the word wiedźmin is literally just the non-translated "witcher," and thus applies to all mediums of the witcher: books, games, netflix, 2001 film ("hexer" in english), musical, you name it.
generally, it was expressed that #wiedźmin should be a place for polish language posts because there are already so many places for english posts, and it can be difficult to specifically find posts in polish for this reason. for many polish fans seeking polish-language posts and other polish fans or creators to connect with, it can be aggravating to see a polish tag appropriated for english-language posts.
and with the alternative of using an english tag for english-language posts, the choice seems like a no-brainer here.
additionally, the broader community already has some history with anglophone fans appropriating the polish name for something (or someone) to mean that thing (or character) in "only this specific medium" ... yes, jaskier, i am talking about jaskier, whose polish name and tag seemed to become synonymous with netflix's jaskier overnight, with little room left for the books or games jaskier... and suddenly, the tag became unusable for polish posts.
of course, this opinion was not expressed by every single member of the community, but by several mutuals, friends, and followers who pointed out that it is important for polish witcher fandom to have its own space.
thus, #wiedźmin should generally be prioritized for polish posts or posts with no language (e.g., visual art or edits, posts which would not hinder a search).
intentions
edit, july 10th, 2023: i have been thinking about this and i realized that i should have a disclaimer for this post, so here that is.
this is just what i have found from my own initiative and responses i encountered when asking around—i in no way speak for any entire community, and i never intended to make this post to be representative of any entire population.
i am aware, of course, that some don’t care about finding books content, that for some english-language content in #wiedźmin isn’t a bother, that for some tumblr is not a concern to them and it’s not worth deliberating what goes in what tag.
at the same time, the majority of commentary i encountered when asking about this topic both urged to (1) have a specific place for books content only (i.e. no netflix content) and (2) have a specific place for polish-language content. the commentary i speak of were received via tumblr replies, tumblr asks, discord messages, tags left on the initial post, tags left on the poll post, and and poll results.
all in all, it’s just tumblr and it doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of life. it’s definitely not the end of the world if tags are used in a way that people disagree about; however, let me be clear about what motivated me to make this post:
my goals with this post were the following:
make tumblr more usuable for fans of the witcher books: both for fans who are interested in “all ‘witcher’s”, and fans that are only interested in the books. (personally, i appreciate organization and i like to use tags to organize and find the content i am interested in).
casually inquire as to how the english-speaking witcher fans on tumblr can support or improve the experiences of polish-speaking fans on tumblr.
create a post to boost visibility; show that the tags #the witcher books and #wiedźmin exist.
my intentions were NOT:
assume authority and tell everyone what to do
assume leadership and speak for everyone involved
assume everyone deeply cares about this topic
i made this post because i have not seen anyone else speak and speak up about this topic, and the very polite and kind anonymous ask i received also made me think some action should be taken as a help to the community, especially during this time of netflix’s season 3 premiering.
the reason why i am making this edit is that after some reflection i realized it is not obvious and does not go without saying why i made this post, and i always want to be clear with my intentions.
i would also like to be clear that this is my own reflection which prompted this edit, and i have thankfully not received any hateful comments or anything like that—this is just me thinking to myself and saying i could have done better when explaining why i made this post.
how to use tag search on tumblr
a question raised during this poll was, what about when non-book posts tag #the witcher, but mention "books" somewhere in their post, so it gets put into #the witcher books tag?
to which i must point out, there is a difference between searching a phrase on tumblr and searching a tag on tumblr.
searching a tag will send you to that tag, where you can see all posts tagged with that tag.
searching a phrase will return a search, where you can see all posts containing the keywords in your search.

on desktop, it’s very simple:
just navigate to the searchbar, and type in the tag you want to browse.
to search the tag, click the highlighted "Go to #the witcher books".
this will send you to tumblr.com/tagged/the%20witcher%20books.
do not hit return to search the phrase, which will instead send you to tumblr.com/search/the%20witcher%20books

i can either search the phrase, which is not what i want, as it will return posts that have not explicitly tagged #the witcher books, but rather all posts which include the keyphrases “witcher” and “books”:

to do this, you have to either select the "Go to #the witcher books" in the search function, as per it is on desktop
or, you can also go to “tags” from the search you returned, and select the tag you want to browse:
then, you will end up in the tag (see above).
conclusion
this is how you navigate tags and searches on tumblr. though somewhat complicated, one has the choice whether to search all posts containing certain keywords words, or only posts tagged with a tag with the keywords in the right order.

Leak vs. Spoiler
The following is something I posted in the Facebook Sandman group.
Leak vs. Spoiler
There seems to be some in-group confusion about leaks and spoilers.
This is a discussion group that allows spoilers though spoiler warnings are encouraged.
About twenty-four hours ago there was a "leak" of an image that Neil Gaiman did not want used to promote Good Omens season 2. Amazon may have had good intentions behind the using of this image considering its use in context but it was not something Neil Gaiman wanted and when Amazon found out his stance on it the image was quickly removed.
Neil Gaiman then asked fans to please pretend they had not seen the particular image.
Question: "Is it really a leak when it was done by an official source like Amazon Prime?"
Answer: In this particular instance, yes. Because of the WGA Writers strike, Neil Gaiman was not in communication with Amazon and someone in the Amazon Prime marketing department released this particular image without his consent. When they realized it was one he did not want seen yet, they hastily removed it.
Ironically at the same time this was happening I was happily playing the new Jaskier song from The Witcher Season 3. "The Ride of The Witcher." This was also an early and official release. The big difference is everyone involved consented to the release. It wasn't accidentally released early. Every country in the world got the song at exactly midnight on June 13th.
Question: Why is this different from the spoilers that are allowed in the group?"
Answer: Though a leak can be a spoiler, not all spoilers are leaks. Spoilers discussed here are from officially released content where the creator has not asked everyone to forget they saw it.
You might dislike spoilers but this is a discussion group and we do discuss spoilers (most of which are thirty-five-years-old). Spoiler warnings are encouraged but no one will be banned for not using them.
This Good Omens 2 leak was a single image that Neil Gaiman requested we pretend we didn't see. It is considered a leak because the showrunner / head writer / co-author of the novel that the series was originally based in had no say in the matter and when they found out he was not happy the image was removed.
There is a difference.

Definitions & Examples of Fanvids and Animatics
A fanvid is also known as a songvid, a video edit, tribute and sometimes a fancam. GMV is also a popular term for video game specific edits, just like AMV is for anime music videos.
This fanwork is usually some kind of television or film source with clips arranged in a certain order to create a narrative that is set to audio (usually music and/or dialogue and sound effects).
Example: War Pigs (2:17) by Grabel424 - a gen Witcher Netflix vid focusing on the theme of violence from season 1. This has some very sharp editing that matches the beats of the song to some really interesting visuals from the show.
Example: Just Like Fire (3:33) by Tami - an Eskel, Ciri, Geralt, Triss and Yen vid featuring their perseverance from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The vibe and lyrics of this song give emotional weight to the clip choices as they fight and survive the events of the game.
An animatic is a type of fanvid that features storyboarded illustrations and is set to some kind of audio (music, sound effects, dialogue).
Example: Ciri Portrait | A Witcher 3 animation (0:27) - by abuzzybee. This animatic features a Ciri scene with incredible sound effects and illustration style.
Example: Hard To Be The Bard | A Jaskier animatic (0:59) - by CosmicWahoo. These illustrations are so fun and well edited to a song from the musical comedy ‘Something Rotten.’ This features a song sung by the Shakespeare character himself. Very fitting for Jaskier!
But I don't know ANYTHING about fanvids!
Vidders value ALL feedback they receive, even from–especially from–from non-vidders. Vidders are spending hours making their vids and putting it out in the world. Vidders REALLY want you to watch their vids and know what you think!
This type of fanwork has typically received less comment activity than fanfic over the years because people are afraid of not knowing what to say or saying something wrong. If this sounds like you, please join me in learning how to make a vidder’s year by leaving them some feedback.
Best Practices/Suggestions
Watch the vid more than once!
Just like watching a film or TV episode for the first time, you are absorbing new material. Watching a vid a second time will allow you to absorb the song choice, lyrics and narrative the vidder is trying to tell with the character, pairing or subject.
Vidders watch and rewatch their vid and song a hundred million times during the process of making the video.
If you watch the vid multiple times, tell the vidder what you took away from the vid during your first watch. Then on the second viewing, describe if you saw anything new or had a better understanding of the lyrical associations with the character or ship or narrative.
Ask questions!
There are MANY ways to make a fanvid and every editor has a different process. They use different tools, techniques, and ways of telling a story. Different sources of inspiration and tricks they picked up along the way to finish their vid.
Ask about music selection. They might reveal their inspiration and how it influenced the way they arranged the clips to tell their narrative.
Example: A common question is "Did you have the song idea first or the pairing/narrative idea first?"
Ask what software or apps they use to make their video. You can ask them how long it took (some people can work fast, other people will spend months or years to complete a single project). This will give you insight into the work they undertook before they even started putting the story together!
Ask about their feelings about the subject they're vidding. The canon. The characters. The pairing or themes or emotional content of the vid. "Why did you choose this character's story arc from the first season?"
Insights from a Vidder
In my 15 years of watching and making fanvids, you never know what the vidder planned and what happened serendipitously unless you ask.
Some vidders spend hours or days on a 5 second sequence that no one will notice.
Many, many times the vidders will create amazing sequences, effects or clip choices by pure accident, serendipity, or trial and error. It's rarely what a viewer assumes when you're watching a vid unless you are familiar with a vidder's process or style.
Learning the story of how vidder's make their story can give you insights of how they approached a canon's visuals, character's emotional arcs and what choices they are making to create the story they are sharing with you. This can reveal new or different ideas of how to view characters, pairings, and themes in a canon source.
Basic/Advanced/Intermediate Feedback
Basic Feedback (Examples/Suggestions):
Simply showing up and saying, “I liked watching this!” will mean the world to vidders. So will a string of emojis, keyboard smashing and gif reactions.
Describe how you felt while watching the vid.
Example: “I am SOBBING, this vid has ruined me.” or “I cannot stop laughing because Jaskier is DEFINITELY Taylor Swift… OMG.”
Ask the vidder a question about the song or clip choices to gain a better understanding of what story the vidder is trying to tell.
Example: “Is there an additional meaning when you used this shot of Yen looking sad to [specific lyric]?”
Intermediate Feedback:
Did this vid make you see a character, ship or subject in a new light?
Example: “I would have never guessed Fiona/Donkey from Shrek would parallel with Yen/Jaskier so perfectly…WTF omg 😍”
Let the vidder know if you made a connection between their song choice and subject matter.
Example: "The lyrics of 'Control' speak about being trapped by the world, by your own demons. It fits so well for each of the women in the Witcher. Fringilla and Yen and Ciri all wrestle with villains that live inside their heads. And all these characters really ARE bigger than their bodies or the boxes that society has put them in, whether it's the Brotherhood or Nilfgaard... oh my god. This has me all thinky!" (a comment I have about "Control" by walktheeagle)
Advanced Feedback (aka quoting a line of fic, except it’s a clip or sequence of clips, to the vidder):
Identify specific visual or emotional elements in the video. You know something in the vid wowed you and you don’t know how to express it. Rewatch the vid and note a timestamp where the thing happened that made you sit up and go “OH MY GOD???”
Example: “Oh my GOD at 0:35 i started screaming because of the lyrics of this song for Yen!!! ‘Some of them want to use you / some of them want to be abused..’ and you used the shot Sabrina STABBING Yen on ‘use you.’ And THEN you put that shot right next to Yen kissing Geralt on the ‘abused’ lyric at 0:40!! It made me SCREAM because Geralt does walk himself into that connection with Yen and gets abused. That violence and softness parallel is so good.”
Example: “And then at 0:41 the cymbal crash is timed to the opening of Yen’s eye!!! I liked that!!” (comments I have for the vid Sweet Dreams, a Yennefer vid by mithborien)

What criteria do you pay attention to when rating a fanwork? What do you find interesting about a fanwork (content)?
Hello. Thanks for the question. I will go into contemplation.
Creativity in Tumblr is so voluminous, diverse and all-encompassing that sometimes you want to transfer its entire spectrum to yourself. From drawings and art to virtual photos and fanfiction. Since each author of works has his own unique style, his own vision and the ability to show this vision to us, the eye rejoices and admires. As well as the thought process, that notices the details and saturates.
Can you name certain criteria? Extremely difficult. I can only cling to something subconsciously attractive, and then I evaluate the work. I like the play of light and shadow, the dark style of work is more attractive to me, as you can see, but at the same time, I do not rule out brighter colors. Cold and moderate tones and shades are closer than too catchy, but the creators of their craft can beat it so that there is no way to miss this palette. Therefore, the boundary of criteria is blurred.
I have several authors that I follow and do not hide it. They see everything themselves. Either they do not see, but I still do not cease to show my interest in their work. *smiles* Because every author should know, that he has the power to inspire and motivate, teach and want to advance. Inspiring cycle, dear anonymous, it has no specifics.
I like dark atmospheric works or colorfully bright ones. I like photos that are nude or aesthetically directed without a hint of nudity. I am attracted to black and white or any other palette. I like stories told in a pairing, in any way, for Jaskier's ballads, or stories that darken reality, recounting certain events. Monster-like art that arouses interest in its detail, or traced in subtlety, graceful and charming, amusing and making you smile.
Perhaps, I can miss something, but only because I can’t keep track of everything. Of course, it follows from this that any creative work of a talented author deserves attention. And one way or another, he will get it. From me or someone who appreciates creativity no less, no doubt.

i’m glad this says or more because there are way too many beautiful creations that i’ve seen this year which have lived in my mind rent free. it’s so incredibly hard to pick, so i’m going to chose some of my favourite creators of the year and my favourite sets they’ve produced.
avia, geraskier queen @lamberts, sheer creativity never fails to blow me away, and seeing her creativity with new witcher content at the beginning of the year got me through those early dark and dreary months. there are so many creations i could list here, but i’m going to pick this jaskier’s feelings for geralt via his songs set because it highlights so much of avia’s talent. the clever and cohesive typography, the stunning combo of yellow and pink, the seamless blending, all rounded off with a bit of geraskier angst. each and every gif of these is made to perfection and it’s such a great overall journey of jaskier and his feelings towards geraskier across the seasons, whilst also being art.
daphnée, my french princess @ivashkovadrian, has made me smile with a lot of her sets this year. but this yenralt + ship’s in the night set really had me screaming. i adore this song to death and seeing it used for them, and so gorgeously, blew me away. the gold and mint that i always associate with daph is drop dead beautiful, so vibrant and so rich. and what really makes me lose my mind is the attention to detail with pairing the lyrics with symbols! the way the hourglass is used to hold the typography is simply genius. i also gotta do a little shoutout to your costume sets though! violet’s teal dress was such a surprise and the most delightful gift, and kate’s orange dress was a set i’d been waiting on for a while and it certainly did not disappoint.
jagoda, goddess of merlin and the witcher @ughmerlin, has again made so many stunning creations this year that picking just one was a ridiculous task. there are so many amazing sets showcasing her creativity and talent that it’s almost impossible to pick one favourite. but this merlin + zodiacs set is one that has stuck with me because i could stare at it for hours. there is something so calming about this deep blue and celestial signs. but on top of that, the blending is just gorgeous, the scene selections and even triple blends occurring are some of the best i’ve seen. i want these made into actual cards so badly.
maria, my go to merlin genius @arthurpendragonns, has again surpassed creativity and talent this year whilst crushing me with the merthur feelings. i can’t list every set (though i would if i could), but this 10th merlin anniversary set felt like such a flex of all your talent. you truly own this red to orange to soft yellow combo, and the detail here was nothing but immaculate. the perfect overlays are on show, from the use of the wings, crowned skull, lightning, just everything. then to even include transitions between both text nicknames and scenes? so cleverly done. plus that twist of the last gif made me lose my mind.
laura, one of the most creative giffers on this site @katherineebishop, always impresses me with her unique takes on gifsets. i’ve really enjoyed your celebrations this year and how you approach every set with such creativity, including beautiful overlay additions and stunning typography. but i’m going to shout out this yenskier set from earlier in the year because this one left me speechless. them in bi colours is so incredibly valid and i really adore the range of typography used to showcase their moments. it’s such a perfect summary of them and why they were such a highlight of season 2.
neve, my british twin @aryastaark, has produced the most drop-dead gorgeously coloured gifsets this year. i still think about your rhaenyra episode sets because the colour combos you picked were everything. but if i have to pick a favourite of yours this year, it is without a doubt this dragons + their riders set because holy shit. the rainbow colours are gorgeous. the blending?! spectacular. the inclusion of little symbols was genius. and the use of different fonts for each rider... just wow. this set really took my breath away and was such a showcase of the talent you have. it belongs in a gallery.
ana, keeping me fuelled with flawless house of the dragon content this year @zoya-nazyalenskys, has produced so many gorgeous and emotional sets i could list here. i always say you own the colours blue and orange, because each and every time you use them it takes my breath away. so i have to pick this rhaenicent set, because it showcases those things so perfectly. also the blending is absolutely to die for, the way this parallels moments and delivers on the angst is everything.
arianna, queen of typography @seance, always floors me with her colours and creativity. i’ve never seen a set of arianna’s that missed. each and every one is so incredibly beautiful and impressive. but i’m going to shoutout this wednesday + episode titles set because i’m still not over it. the choice of scenes for blending is immaculate, each adds such texture which elevates the gif. the colours are just phenomenal, so vibrant and stunning. and the typography rounds it off perfectly. your eye for combinations always impresses me.
myra, blender extrordinare @capinejghafa, has really kept me fuelled with umbrella academy content this year which is much appreciated. i will always think of your hargreeves rainbow transition set, but i have to shoutout this hargreeves + their mothers set because i’m still in awe of how you did it. the way you included the newspaper clippings is actual genius, and it’s so seamlessly done. and then there’s triple blends going on to include the newspaper clever?! so beautiful, so genius, so in love with it.
cj, provider of the luther content this fandom needs @viktorhargreeves, has come up with so many original and amazing concepts this year. getting a new umbrella academy season was a blessing because it was so exciting to see what you would do with it next. but i’m going to pick this luther + soundtrack set because of the way i gasped when i saw it. the creativity of this album and disc layout is absolutely incredible. and not only that, but every single gif within this is beautifully coloured, seamlessly blended, topped off with to-die-for typography. it’s just incredible, i don’t know how you had the patience to do it but i applaud you.
michelle, the talented angel @enidsinclaiir, blew me away with her talent a lot this year. but i have to say that umbrella academy week was a moment where i was going ‘oh my god how’ every single day. because i know you were doing things that week, and yet you still managed to come up with the most creative and beautiful sets. i have to pick this favourite episode set though because it showcases so many different skills and is simply stunning. the colour palette is to die for, the layout is so creative and clever, the cut out of allison? on the floor. the use of speech bubbles and typography... i could go on and on about this set because they’re are so many details and each are so beautiful.
bru, #1 nancy wheeler and robin buckley supporter as is right and proper @natalia-dyer, you are so talented but also your passion for what you create really shines through. thank you for always being a safe space to celebrate the lesbians, it’s been a delight to witness the ronance agenda. i am particularly in awe of your ability to take scenes from different films and fit them into an au gifset, it’s just incredible how talented and creative you are. but i’ve got to pick your favourite platonic relationship set as one that has stayed with me this year. the colours and typography for each is just so gorgeous, it’s the most perfect and spot on rainbow set i’ve seen.

elsbeth, i’m so happy that wednesday gave us another mutual show so i could scream over your gifs once more @laylakeating. and i just have to point and yell at this wednesday + anti-hero set because wow! red, black and white is one of my all time favourite colour combos and this was perfection. the blending is flawlessly done, and i really adore the font you chose. there’s been a lot of anti-hero sets this year but this is the one that really sticks with me. it is so fitting and so perfectly done.

i just did my list of my favourite creations for every month so i’m going to try and give some love to creations outside of that!
this umbrella academy s3 soundtrack set was a real labour of love. adding the rainbow to it was just so much fun and i’m really proud of how it turned out. i also tried to do it all chronologically which made a challenge for rainbow colouring as i couldn’t just pick the greener scenes for screen.
this kanthony favourite scene set is one i’m so proud of. i generally don’t like giffing scenes because it always feels like everyone beats me to it, but this was a more ‘creative’ take on it and was really fun to make. and i was really proud of how it turned out, especially the rings!
this shadow and bone season 2 trailer set admittedly could be better, but i’m really proud of how it came out with that awful trailer quality. i do wish the footage was better, but sometimes we have to work with what we’ve got! and overall i was really happy with what i managed to do with brief glimpses and low quality.
this chrissy cunningham set was a fun appreciation of the character! it was really fuelled by the hate grace was recieving from the fandom (which is never fair) and i really wanted to celebrate her acting in both the sadness and sweetness she brought to chrissy, which made her a scene stealer in what tiny screen time she had. i was really happy with how it came out, with the blue and green of the cheer colours and the ink dropper fade effect.
3 creations others loved:
this wenclair gifset keeps popping up in my notifications and i’m so happy that people enjoyed this concept. i really loved their contrasting personalities and it was fun to do that in the contrasting yellow and black and white.
this house of the dragon queens set is one i actually had scheduled to post when i was on holiday with no internet. i got home and got to see the reaction people had to it all at once and it was overwhelming! people had left such lovely tags and comments and it just made me so happy. there was almost a nerve-wracking feeling of ‘well, i wasn’t around to boost this so it could entirely flop’ but to see people had enjoyed it was lovely.
i think this first kill set is my gifset with the highest notes this year, so i have to give it a shoutout! loved seeing everyone connect with not just this set, but the show itself. its release felt so special and i really enjoyed engaging with the fandom and celebrating our supernatural sapphics (even if the show deserved so much better, still mad at you netflix).
2 creations that stretched you as a creator:
me? biting off more than i can chew? ... yeah it happens a lot. i’ve done a lot of appreciation weeks this year that have really stretched me, doing five or even seven days of straight gifsets while also feeling like i need to be creative has felt like running a marathon at times. but i also feel like it has helped to push my ideas.
this yennefer week set pushed me a lot because creatively, i wasn’t sure how to make it work, and also because i was struggling for time because i was so busy with work and was literally snatching moments to hide away and gif. but i was really happy with what i came up with in the end, especially with the reviews fading in and out.
and this umbrella academy quotes set, again for an appreciation week, was a lot of work just because there were so many details i wanted to include within it. and i was doing so much for this week on the day/staying up way too late at night because i’d managed to make only one set in advance. in the end, i’m very happy with it and think it looks so fun! but at the time it was a case of me driving myself crazy with my own ambition and perfectionism.
1 creation you find aesthetically pleasing:
something so (literally) magical about this yen + magic set to me. i just think the shots of her trying to do magic/doing magic on the show are so beautiful and it was fun to play with them. also adored adding the witchy halloween colours to it!
1 creation that broke you:
giffing the entire umbrella academy season 3 trailer was a lot. this definitely broke photoshop and made me lose my mind. by the end i was so tired and fed up with it.
0 creation that never was:
i started a yennefer + smiles set (sort of based on this but for season 2) back in february and have still never finished it. i’ve actually still got all the caps ready to go, it’s just... still not happened. maybe one day.

I'll Be the One by Lyla Lee | F/M both bisexual!!
This book follows Skye, a Korean-American bisexual girl in high school who wants to be the next K-Pop star. Her dancing is incredible but the biggest barrier to everyone else is her body. As someone is half-Korean and considered plus-size in that culture, this book definitely felt like something I've always wanted. It hurt but I definitely understood every character's intentions and I loved every second of it. (Even the painful parts. Do we all have mommy issues??) I will definitely read this again whenever I'm feeling down after hearing another Ajumma comment on my body.
"There are so many forms of Asian-parent tough love, where parents say and do mean things only because they want the best for us. Is all of that “tough love” abusive? What distinguishes tough-love parenting from abuse? After all, Mom did say she’s afraid of what other people might say about me. Even though she is mostly afraid that people might think she’s a bad parent, isn’t the fact that she’s worried about me a good thing?"

He’d assumed--foolishly, apparently--that he was far enough north that any Nilfgaardian soldiers would be few and far between, likely just scouts or even deserters. It would have been hard to actually get any further north--the little backwater town where he’d been singing was just a day from the mountains. Anymore travel, and he’d find himself skirting the Trail up to Kaer Morhen, the Warlord’s Keep, and, well. He’s brazen, but not that brazen.

I was talking about this with my sister today, but it almost seems fateful what happened in Roosmav with me...I feel like something actually possessed me and implanted the irrational bottom!Bradley-phobia in my brain last year because it makes zero sense in retrospect. I do have a bottom!Bradley preference now, because on the surface-level, it's what I usually like (still with certain physical + personality caveats, but I think I'm not much different about this than many others are about bottom!Maverick, etc. - we don't all have to like everything).
But I think about if I had joined, say, a Geraskier discord, I would have probably been whining about bottom!Jaskier (I'm sorry, I want bottom!Geralt-exclusively, lol). But there would have been no way for me to come back and be like, "J/k, I actually love bottom!Jaskier!" and be so motivated to create for it because I just don't feel that way, and I never could. I could have always loved bottom!Bradley, so it really just was the most natural thing for me to do once I let go of my literal devil's possession.
I can talk about this more another time, but while this year has been difficult as hell, and I felt like I wanted to die so many times and for so long, it also allowed me to detox from many terrible fandom habits I had before, which were present long before I caught a whiff of Top Gun, and why I was never able to genuinely enjoy a fandom experience until Roosmav. I lived to see a number go up, and it actually used to hurt me to even look art on twitter which had bigger number than me, etc.. I WAS SO TERRIBLE ABOUT THIS. I even cried about this on the Roosmav server (and the people there were so lovely to comfort and reassure me that my art was good at the time!). Roosmav really taught me to just create things because I want to and for the love of it. Last year, I did it because I enjoyed the people on the Roosmav server/my friends hyping me up for it, but this year, I know nobody is really going to like anything I do, but I still want to do it because I simply have such an intrinsic love and belief in for what I want to do for Roosmav.
Honestly, if i hadn't been kicked off of the Roosmav server, I probably would have eventually gone back to the TGCF fandom and been crying over my art not being as good as the thousands of other people creating for HuaLian and continuing to be miserable in my fandom experience. But it actually kind of helps me that Roosmav doesn't have a lot of content creators because I feel like me doing things is actually contributing meaningfully (even if nobody wants me to, lol - but, indeed, I do it because I believe Roosmav deserves these ideas being brought forth).

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
On my masterlist site I have a whole page of my personal favourite fics I’ve written. For someone who had never read any of my work I would either recommend them the first thing I ever wrote (the Geraskier fuck-or-die subverted trope fic) or if they’re not into smut, perhaps this fluffy drabble about Geralt and Jaskier’s relationship post-season two!
9. How do you find new fic to read?
I’m subscribed to a handful of really good writers on AO3 and they keep me afloat. To be honest for TWN, there was so much great fic written when the first season came out that I often just find myself revisiting my bookmarks. I also periodically check the Vesemir/Filavandrel, Yennefer/Fringilla, and Lambert/Coën/Aiden tags on AO3 just to be sure I’m not missing any!
But the main way I get recommendations for new, varied fics to read is through the Novigrad Market discord server. It’s one of my favourite ideas, and I wish this sort of thing existed for all my fandoms. You don’t have to be a creator to join, although if you are a creator and want your own channel to promote your work the mods are very friendly and welcoming. Each fic author/artist has their own channel where they can promote their own work. I will say that liberally curating your experience with the mute button is very important, as personally for me some of the content shared is not at all to my liking. But it’s a very positive community and a great way to discover new creators.
