The Refill Lake Bonneville Protest was a rousing success! Literally tens of gallons of water were added to the lake, we said hello to some brine flies, Real (Not Cardboard) Mitt Romney got mugged, and some beautiful poetry was shared.

Wells Field Office BLM, Nevada
This peak bagging expedition with a side of looking for old tufa found a lot more geology than I was expecting. But where do I find the interpretive trail signs when I'm off trail? I'm still looking around for geology sources for this. The views were pretty spectacular too.

Bill Burke's P-51 Belly Tank - Kustomrama
The Bill BurkeP-51 Belly Tank is known as the first Belly TankStreamliner racer. Bill was racing on the dry lakes long before the war started. While stationed in the South Pacific during WWII he saw potential in using a Belly Tank as the body for a dry lakes car. Shortly after returning home from the war he built his first Belly Tank Streamliner. In 1946 he raced his brand new car. Burke was the…

Hi, all. Being a retiree means having too much time on your hands, so CC kicked me out of the house and I’m on my way to see my sister in Delaware. Woo. I’m trying to do a travel log, but don’t expect much. I’m driving by myself, so I can’t really spend a lot of time playing tourist. Maybe on the way back.
The end of Day One has me spending the night in Park City, Utah which is just east of SLC. Impressions so far:
Did you know Nevada is big? From California to Utah, that 400+ miles over Interstate 80. Sheesh and Yikes. Fortunately, our state leader wisely set the speed limits to correspond, so legally going 80mph is fun. I never went any higher. ✋✋✋
Open Nevada spaces just feel like home, and surprise, they’re not exclusively brown. A lot of green fields that will probably fade to brown, but right now, so nice. Thank you, Big Winter.
Orange Cone Season, but why put out five miles of cones east of Fernley and close a lane, but not be doing anything?
Fernley: your road signage sucks. Travelers should easily enter your town from the south and segue across the bridge to the freeway, but no. There is no sign at the bridge that points to I-80. Fix that.
Battle Mountain, never change. You’re the perfect sweet little Nevada town. Same for Elko.
Traveling secret: The Mavericks in Wendover has the best hot hogs. I got one off the rollers that must have been there all day. Also, if you have seen Wendover lately, they got some big-ass casinos that would blend in on Virginia Street in Reno just fine.
More Big Winter: The Bonneville salt flats are a big lake right now. Maybe that happens every year, but lots of water for miles in every direction. The tiny “High Wind Warning” signs are like Post-it Notes: by the time we notice them, we already know what’s happening. The big rigs were snaking across the flats until we hit the mountains.
That’s all for now. Hopefully I’ll post again when I hit Ogallala. I mention it in one of my books. TTFN.

Have you ever looked at Orem and wished it was a bit more like the lost city of Atlantis? Do you wish Salt Lake City had canals wide enough for your sailboat to turn around without resorting to profanity? Do you just want more seagulls in Utah?
Join the ARCH-HIVE at 9 am on Saturday, August 12 at Black Rock near the Great Saltair in calling for Lake Bonneville to be refilled. Replenish yourself emotionally by participating in ceremonies honoring our favorite paleolake, then replenish yourself literally by joining us for hot dogs afterwards.
(Please note, "Real, not cardboard Mitt Romney" may, possibly, perhaps be an exaggeration)

2022 Speed Week Canceled as Bonneville Salt Flats Flooded by Heavy Rains
Aug. 8, 2022 - Road & Track
Organizers for Speed Week, an annual straight-line top speed shootout held on the Bonneville Salt Flats in northwestern Utah, announced Sunday it has canceled the event due to heavy rains flooding the Flats.
The Southern California Timing Association, the organization responsible for running Speed Week, sent out the final decision just one day into the week-long event, which began on August 6 and was set to continue until August 12.
"Due to unforeseen weather conditions Speed Week 2022 is officially cancelled," a statement published to Facebook from the SCTA read. "We are doing our best to recover what we can find out on the lakebed...”
The event was also cancelled due to rain in 2014 and 2015. In Aug. of 2014, when we were first making and gifting orgonite in California. According to one of the racers, this was the worst rainout they had ever seen.
