My Travel Paintings - Washington Pass Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Peaks, Spires and a Ridgeline Covered with Snow. On the original image I posted here on Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/14723335@N05/38672370244/in/album-7...), I commented on standing at Washington Pass Overlook while in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and savoring the views and cool temperatures...and loving it! But it was an uncertain stop that I have to thank the friend I was with for wanting to go further on Washington State Route 20 in the North Cascades mountains. To think I might have missed taking in views of these rugged mountains...lucky me! As for the digital painting, I continued to practice more in using broader paint brush strokes like I'd seen in a Bob Ross video and watching another painter friend of mine. General highlights I worked on was with a Kyle acrylic brush. I like the digital effect it created as it seemingly had texture to it and not the smoothed over look other brushes have. I could then decrease the brush size for more precision in other area. I used more of Kyle’s Rakes - Zen Grind brush for the trees going up the mountainside. Work that I wouldn't call my favorite one but good enough to convey some changes in color and hue to create a sense of relief across the mountain. Could I have spent more time and added more detailed view of trees? Yes, but I was attempting to paint a quicker style and not spend weeks like I had in the past. What I did like was using a blend in colors as it produced a much better look than the typical Normal blend. The last area that really took a while to get the right look was with the clouds. In my mind, I knew the brush stroke I wanted but couldn't get that look on the digital canvas. I decided on using a Kyle's Dry Media -Compressed Charcoal and then adjusting the blend mode produced the closest result. What I found worked best was to brush out the brighter white area. I could then darken the hue, adding a shade feel to a portion of the clouds next to that brighter white area. I would blend at the edges. I would repeat that with an even darker area next to that. I would repeat all that again in another portion of the clouds. There's still some work to do, but I like the result more with feel of clouds. The last area was my continuing work with blue skies and adding a watercolor brush on top to break up and not have that smooth sky look. In the left foreground of the painting, you'll find that stick figure image of me "hiking" with my Cubbies hat, loving my time exploring the North Cascade mountains of Washington :-)

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"You keep stepping out in front of me. I've taken on ferals before, you know? I could've killed them." You smiled as you spoke. For a while now, Danse had been quick to defend you from any slight danger the two of you encountered on your mission. It was nice of him to do and you appreciated the gesture, but it wasn't at all necessary.

"I―uh, I do it for everyone." He sheepishly said.

"For squires maybe, but I've never seen you do it for any of the other knights." You were trying hard to meet his gaze, but he seemed to hold it strictly ahead.

Your statement seemed to fluster him as he started to stutter, "I―are you sure?"

"I'm sure." You giggled, "Maybe I'm just special." You teased, grinning when you saw how embarrassed he was quickly becoming. "Anyway," You began, "what's first on the list?"

"Maxson's sent us to clear out a building in Lexington. We wipe out everything in it, and then we're done for the day." He recited, messing with something on the side of his gun.

You shrugged, "Sounds simple enough. Are you doing anything after? Maybe we could go get a drink or something?"

"A―uh, a drink? From where?"

"The Prydwen I reckon. Unless you wanted to go all the way down to Diamond City, but that's a far walk. I'd rather just alert a Vertibird to our location and fly back home, wouldn't you?"

"Yeah―let's get a drink after this."

You nudged his shoulder with your own as you walked―or more so his side as he towered over you in his power armor, "No need to be so stiff, we've shared a bed before, remember? What's going on?"

"Nothing's going on, I'm perfectly fine, soldier." He answered, still avoiding your gaze.

You hummed, "If you so say."

You coughed as the smoke signal from the Vertibird grenade floated upward into the sky, calling the two of you a much-needed ride. The Super Duper Mart was packed full of ferals when you entered, and completely empty when you left. It was easy work for the two of you, even if Danse was on edge the entire time.

"Good work out there," Danse announced, hesitantly placing his hand on your shoulder once the two of you border the large machine.

"Thanks, Danse. We needed something easy after the last mission at Fort Strong."

The bar on the Prydwen was clustered, full of your coworkers as it usually is in the late afternoons. Tons of people stood together in the singular hallway where the weapon and drinks were being sold, the majority being there for both services. You felt yourself being pushed into Danse on multiple occasions, having to apologize after every shove.

"Cheers to another victory?" You spoke, holding your bottle out towards your companion, resting your hand on his arm to stabilize yourself in the overflowing crowd.

He grinned at you, clinking his glass with your own, "Yeah, cheers to our victory."

You stared at him expectantly for a moment, watching him take a sip of his drink, "So, you gonna tell me what's wrong?"

"What do you mean?"

"C'mon, Danse, don't act like you haven't been acting stranger lately, you're all awkward and shit. What's going on?"

"I just―have a lot on my mind." He vaguely admitted, focusing his gaze on his glass intently.

"Oh yeah? And what's the big thing you're keeping secret?" You asked, leaning closer to the bigger man.

"Ask me again later." He responded, "I rather not be around so many people when I tell you."

The subject was then forgotten about as you rambled to him about your week, him adding his input as you went before the two of you went off to your respective bunkers. Danse's heart ached for you every step of the way as he watched you disappear out of sight. He'd tell you how he felt one day, it just had to be the right time. He just prayed that time would come soon, or never at all, that'd be nice. He wished he could just sweep it all under the rug and forget about it. He hated the way he worried for you, it did nothing but make him tense. You both had a victory on your most recent mission, but he still didn't make any more progress on admitting his feelings for you, it'd have to remain a battle for another day.

Dolltavia had a marvelous time at Lexington Comic and Toy Convention this weekend. Here are her escapades over the three days we were gone. Photo descriptions go from left to right. First Row: 1. Second Row: 1. Via ready for bed. 2. Of course she brought along her own toiletries and make up. 3. Free hotel breakfast is always a win.

Fourth Row: 1. Meeting the voice of her father, Bryce Pinkham. 2. He sat her down by his gift offerings while we chatted up. I made him the magic themed plush pumpkin. That's not even all of what he got as this particular photo was taken on the first day he got there.

Fifth Row: 1. Munching on take out while I wait for my photo-op with Bryce. 2. Chowing on a food truck burger and (I presume) eye ball bubble tea. This is hell after all. 3. Eating a Chili dog and milk while waiting in line for the Bluey VA Q&A Panel.

Sixth Row: 1. Finding other fellow Ever After High dolls at a doll booth. 2. They also had Monster High dolls packaged up in bags. Via didn't like the sight of that. 3. Who says toys can't have their own toys?

Seventh Row: 1. While this Jenga tower was large for real humans, it's even more massive for Dolltavia. 2. Same goes for the unicorn.

About personal space and Gargoyles

1. Xanatos wants so bad to hold Goliath hand! But Goliath doesn't want someone unknown to invade his personal space like that. Look at the posture. The way his arm goes back. He's trying not to get his hand grabbed. And then that facial expression, of pure disapproval. But Xanatos is eyeing a sternly frowning 300kg monster and has decided he's going to take his hand.

2.Xanatos took that hand. He seems quite happy to be able to squeeze the fingers of a monster brought back to life from the Middle Ages, and certainly that's something we can share. But he's continuing to ignore Goliath's blatant frown, and that's not a good thing, it's not good communication.

3. Goliath is not aggressive, it could be much scarier than that, but it is easily freed from the human's grip, it is enough for him to open his fingers. As he frees himself, he clearly speaks of what he feels (and in a few moments he too will tell him that he is grateful to Xanatos, but that for what happened to his clan he will no longer trust humans).

Xanatos looks surprised.

4. Now Xanatos is the frowning one. On his face: bewilderment. Indignation. He's about to cry.

He really wanted to hold that hand. But he wasn’t able to read Goliath’s face... or maybe he doesn’t know where to stop, he just wants to look super-friendly. This is not manipulation, he didn’t get the expected outcome, he wasn’t able to understand that his touch was unwanted, otherwise he would have stopped: if you want your Gargoyles to be  friends, faithful guardians, you do not try to upset them.

5. “I can tell this relationship is something we all have to work at” (-Xanatos)

This man has no friends. He has not been able to befriend any humans around him for years (he’s 40 or almost 40 here). There are a million reasons why this could happen, but since it's something I identify with so much, I tend to think it's due to very poor socialization in the formative years. And, in his case, probably also of other events that, perhaps, we will discover in the future. Besides, geniuses are always lonelier than other people, right? Especially amoral ones. No, ok, moral ones too.

This man has no friends, so he decided to summon mythological creatures from the past, but he didn't expect that it would take psychological work to make friends even with them who are not human. He expected it to be easier.  He expected that it was enough for him to try to get friendship like you do with animals, perhaps with dogs: using physical language, a happy and relaxed voice, offering food, shelter and cuddles.

6. Even surrounded by gargoyles, Xanatos seems completely alone. And helpless. Not scared, he's never afraid of them, but alone. None of the Gargoyles seem to want to give him space or confidence. The only one who might get his attention, the only one who is really dog-like (Bronx) is screened and protected by Lexington.

But Goliath was an excellent communicator. Here he looks at him as a father scolding his son, his physical language is rigid, his fists are clenched, his wings do not rest like a cloak on his shoulders. He is clearly telling him "you can't have intimacy without others giving it to you".

An entire animated series will follow about how Goliath teaches a man to respect the personal spaces of others.

Even if Xanatos doesn't make it easy for him and, thinking a genuine relationship impossible, he tends to use them as pawns, as objects, and does a lot of things that aren't really good friend’s things (but, yeah, continuing to respect Goliath as a person, admiring his strength, his courage, his brain and possibly his beauty).

Well done Goliath. You taught him something beautiful and useful and now for sure, given the fruits he's reaping (a tower full of Gargoyles, potentially good allies), he's thanking you 😌 Well, maybe one day he’ll have human friends, who knows! (Think of it, right now he has exactly 0 humans friendly towards him).

The animation of Gargoyles is something I like to look at in detail and it tells a lot about the characters, so excuse me, I had to over-analyze it. And maybe I will do it again with other scenes.

New tenement blocks have been added, primarily around 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Lexington Avenue and 8th, 9th, 10th Avenue.

3x6 in size, they were granted by the city of Minehattan to anyone who didn't have funds to build their own house. People could secretly expand their house, by demolishing interior walls between their and their neighbours house, but this practice was strongly punished up until 1940s. So if city official found out you and your neighbour expanded your house(es), you both could end up homeless from the amount of debt amassed from fines.

*No, I'm not replacing 270 Park Avenue. They should have just build a new building on the small annex behind the 270 Park tower instead of just demolishing the entire building. **My blog is primarily furry stuff but I also do a lot of builds in Minecraft. Between all the fighting, we see this one enemy sneak off into the castle, break into a room, and take off with a briefcase. The helicopter is summoned back, and our villains file in and make an escape.

In the meantime, we saw Goliath get tossed over the side of the castle and fall and only able to save himself by slowing his descent by putting his talons into the side of the tower. A reminder that Gargoyles don't simply fly. Lexington nearly gets taken down. More grenades are thrown. Etc etc. Everyone may be safe, but it's not a great start to their new life in the future.

Do you have any top favourite scenes from the show/comics?

First, anon, thank you for your patience while I thought long and in-depth about this. I love the show so much, it's easy for me to come up with 30 different examples of moments I love but that's not very exclusive ^^;

Some of my top scenes, in my rewatch of season 1 I'm undergoing at the moment, have been the little character-building moments between the Manhattan clan. For all of it's behind-the-scenes production struggles, "Enter Macbeth" has some very nice character interplay between Lexington, Brooklyn, and Goliath. "Sorry I was too busy WRITHING in AGONY to notice," and *DISTANT ROARING* "Looks like Bronx found Goliath," come to mind as moments that make me smile.

Another of my top favorite moments, (putting aside all OwenPuck scenes because otherwise this answer would be all about him, lmao) is the scene where Coyote and Dingo break The Pack out of jail. Fox reading Jean-Paul Sartre. "Nietzsche's too butch and Kafka reminds me of your little friends over there." The excellent sequence where Dingo breaks into the building with his powersuit and unleashes high-key horror imagery on the prison guard. It all fits so neatly together, and is such a well-paced scene it feels so luxurious in what it gives you. It's a top-tier scene for a season opener.

I've talked previously about "Kingdom," and what a great episode it is - I think what it really comes down to for me for "favorites" is how lived-in an episode feels. There's a lot of great character work in Gargoyles, which is one of the reasons people keep going back, in that it feels like a tangible world. When Matt comes back home to his tiny little apartment and loosens his tie and then gets startled by Broadway waiting for him. They way the clan collects Cagney to take care of back at the clock tower once it's apparent Elisa isn't coming back (an small but important detail not to forget, from a writing perspective - she's got a cat!) The dramatic but relatively domestic drama of the mutates in the Labryinth (oh no, someone in your underground collective is a major asshole!) Owen also sitting at David's desk with his jacket off and his tie loose. The little details like this make the show feel less like a cartoon where someone opens their closet and has ten of the same outfit as a gag, but like a world that belongs to the characters who live in it. If that makes sense?

Truly, the list does go on, but I'm going to transition to the comics now :)

I need to read the SLG run again; I've read it multiple times, but sometimes the more disparate quality of it's narrative and artistic elements distract me from forming a coherent opinion. But I adore the following moments:

Owen and Delilah bring Free Will to the Table

This is an interesting little interplay that frustrates me on the whole because I'm not entirely sure the Goliath / Thailog part of it is earned, but it does develop Delilah's sense of personhood in the narrative and also gives us a window into Puck's code-of-ethics-as-Owen. Goliath makes a mistake (girlfriends can be won like a prize) but Owen says essentially "Aren't you going to ask her what she wants? Doesn't she have free will?" which is a fascinating conk-on-the-noggin for the faerie-stuck-as-a-mortal-and-is-your-part-time-nemesis to deliver to the protagonist of your story.

And it does deliver in that Delilah says, "Fuck all this" (i wish she literally said that) and ends the party without being hitched to either Goliath or Thailog. She itches something in me because she's claiming some agency. She didn't ask to be here (who does, tbr) and was created from the DNA of two very complicated, very different women (who were unwilling donors to top it off) for the purposes of satisfying Thailog's desire for a romatic partner. NOT OKAY! What does Delilah want? For so much of her existence, what she's wanted has been a foregone conclusion (in that, it doesn't matter) and any move she makes in the narrative on her own agenda is one more step towards actualizating her sense of self. That being said - I would like more Delilah.

Shari = Shaharazade

Shari is such an interesting, stand-out character to me, and I wish she'd been around in the show because I'd love to see her animated. She's mystery wrapped in mystery - her motives are so opaque! She's a high-ranking Illuminati member who has presumably been alive for thousands of years - and she's helping Thailog for some inscrutible reason. I get really excited when she shows up. I'm also interested to see how Thailog and Shari pose as narrative foils to Xanatos and Co in the future, given their parallel but opposing structure.

Mary, Finella, and Brooklyn's timedance adventure begins

I think the last two issues of the SLG run were the strongest, and the content in them literally made me shriek when I read it. For one, you've got delicious interplay between Brooklyn's existence in the narrative. He's from the past in the future in the past in the present. Mary and Finella's relationship is great (and for the part of me that reads with shipping goggles - gay, please? they can bond over missing their kids and then kiss about it....a fine lady and her handmaiden, nothing to look at here boss, no sir!) Truly I want more Mary, Finella, and Brooklyn adventures. I think the beginning of their story was the best thing to come out of the 2006 comics run. Also, "You named the horse Magus?" "Something about his face...." (Magus confirmed horsey face🐴✨ ✊😔)

As for the new runs, I'm soaking it all in. I'm very excited for Quest - I don't have a "Top Favorite" scene from it yet, though I very much enjoy the fact we're getting a fleshed out picture of the NYC world of organized crime as it exists in Gargoyles. I like that they're all scared shitless of Uncle Dracon and I want him to show up more, he's been a very interesting player in the plot. I also really like the sequence where Renard says his goodbyes to his friends and family, even if it does implode ~10k words of unpublished fic I have on my Google Drive. But that's what the canon non-compliant tag on AO3 is for 👍! This is the short way to say I think Titania should be scarier. Like, shit-your-pants scary. I love women.

Since Lexington and Staghart seem like a couple that would want kids to me, and they live in a universe with pretty good cloning technology, I present their little test-tube hatchlings.

Names and quick intros under cut.

Going left to right, we start with the oldest, Joannah. She's very protective of her siblings and dads, and has the heart of an adventurer. She tries to keep her siblings out of trouble, but often ends up being the one to drag them into trouble instead. What can she say? She can't just deprive them of the thrill. She inherited Staghart’s white fur, blue eyes and antlers, but has a long tail, connected wings and a tendency to walk on all fours like Lexington.

Joshua, the middle child and only boy of the group, became fascinated with science fiction the second his dads showed him an episode of Star Trek. A very quiet and laid-back type, he has Staghart’s height, wings, hooves. He has long white hair and green skin just a shade lighter than Lexington’s. When King Arthur met him as a kid, he was given the moniker of "Green Knight". Though he towers over Lexington, even as a teenager, he's a total daddy's boy and takes every hug Lex offers.

Their youngest is Jayla, an excitable young girl with more energy than she could ever use. She's almost completely covered in feathers with the exception of her face, the result of the gene for Staghart’s feathered wings going a bit wild. Jayla's own wings are the longer feathers that come off her arms. Her tendency to stay on all fours like Lexington and Joannah makes her seem very animalistic, which isn't helped by the fact she likes to use short chirps to get people's attention when talking to them.

Brooklyn actually met Jayla as an adult at some point in his timedance journeys. He assumed she was a harpy. She thought it was hilarious, though made sure not to reveal her identity to him. Many years later for Brooklyn, and he sees a surprisingly familiar face when he's introduced to his youngest niece.

Yes, we are enjoying The Dark Tower series, along with an expanded reading list of works that reference the Dark Tower universe; Salem’s Lot, Insomnia, The Little Sisters of Eluria, Hearts in Atlantis, and Everything’s Eventual. We have not read The Outsider, but will look into that. We did take a break from King’s work and read Flannery O’Connors’ Wise Blood.

We have friends in Richmond and @sayhelloanimalfriends visited them this summer. I have family in Lexington. My ancestral roots are in 17th & 18th century Colonial Virginia; Loudon, Essex and Chesterfield counties as well as Jamestown. My third great grandfather died on his farm near Lovettsville and his wife died in Harpers Ferry in 1835. Their tombstones are in a family cemetery at Neersville and I would like to take a trip to see them as I’m really into genealogy & history.
