The 12 Classes of Breath.
“Breath is the Aspect of freedom and flexibility, of the element of air, of going with the flow, movement. Breath Players tend to be more detached from reality, and most of them are in search for the liberty that they crave. They’re usually very positive-minded, or are just unaware of the stress they are holding. A character who reminds me of this Breath characteristic is Mr. Peanutbutter from Bojack Horseman. Breath Players’ main theme in their journey will be freedom, and often times they will be leaders or have to deal with leadership”.
“Breath has that “protagonist” vibe at the same time that it has the “ignored side character” one. John and Tavros holding that Aspect makes that even more true. It is a very unpredictable Aspect, and I believe the players are as well. The bad side of Breath might come from detachment from important things, from people and situations. The players might also be absent-minded, gullible, and sometimes avoidant”.
“Breath is the opposite Aspect to “Blood”, which shares its leadership characteristics but is about the opposite of freedom”.
Tumblr media
Sburb Players each have a combination of an Aspect and a Class. Aspects are understood to represent what a player’s goals and actions in life are caused by. A Class is within an Aspect and understood to represent the way they deal with their Aspect.
The Sburb Classes are Maid, Page, Mage, Knight, Rogue, Sylph, Seer, Thief, Heir, Bard, Prince, and Witch. (Lord and Muse*)
(*Classes Lord and Muse seem to only be possible in either Cherub society or in two-player sessions. They are very absolute and it’s rare for a human to identify with their descriptions. I will have to leave them out here and only write about the remaining twelve :)
Adding the Classes to the Aspect of Breath will result in twelve God Tiers. My analyses of them are as follows:
1st God Tier: Witch of Breath
Witch is the Active Class of manipulation. Witches are known to “control” their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Witch of Breath, specifically, would be realistic about most things, but mostly about their sense of freedom and independence. They would, of course, manipulate their and other people’s liberty and would lead with that power of manipulation. Witches are rebellious, and rebelling through Breath can be being controlling of their schedules, their plans, never having plan Bs and disliking routines AND lack of routine both, switching between the two chaotically and in a way nobody understands. I can see Witches of Breath being demanding bosses, leaders, wanting order but not being able to express it well. Others may look at them and think “Jesus, what an organized mess of a person”, but they thrive on their own messy ideas.
Witches of Breath will rebel against fluidity, relying on always being busy, not wanting to change. Their struggles might be, for a very specific example, moving houses and schools a lot as a kid, to the point where they can’t stand all of that movement anymore. The way a Breath Player is treated seems to affect most of their personality, since they are very malleable. Their relationship with people in their early lives might be the cause of their messy selves. That is neither a good not a bad thing, and a Witch will have to learn to control their need for control, in this case about freedom and flexibility.
2nd God Tier: Heir of Breath
Heir is the Passive Class of manipulation. Heirs are known to “influence” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. An Heir of Breath, specifically, would be extremely free from the reins of control, the opposite to a Witch of Breath. They would be flexible, detached, but somewhat terrible listeners. Heirs are known to “become” their own Aspect, and so would be the epitome of liberty and even air. You may look at an Heir of Breath and only see good, because they are usually unaware of their issues and don’t know how to concretely observe them. Actually, they are unaware of or struggling with the concreteness of most things. They are not used to being realistic, have their heads in the clouds, and might only notice the bad things when it is already too late. But Heirs of Breath are manipulators too, they just do it in a passive and pretty subtle way. Maybe they are good at convincing people not through words but through just acting the way they do. Instead of doing or demanding what they want like a Witch would do, they simply would be seen doing it and would influence people that way. This would make them good leaders, leaders by example, and it’s natural for them to just… inspire. Some of them might doubt that, though, but don’t care much about it.
An Heir of Breath has to be careful to not let themselves go too much. They can be easy to convince as well, being easygoing. And they must learn how their freedom works and what their struggles with it are, and what they can do to change. They will overall want to be independent people.
Heir of Breath is a canon Homestuck God Tier. John Egbert is the character that holds that title.
3rd God Tier: Mage of Breath
Mage is the Active Class of knowledge. Mages are known to “understand” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Mage of Breath, specifically, would simply understand just about how much liberty is safe and appropriate for them. They would be well-organized with their time and relationships, or at least will wing those things way better than most people would. Mages are doomed to know stuff about their Aspect. In Breath, that could be as literal as being good at breathing techniques. Mages of Breath wouldn’t have difficulty breathing when they are anxious, but they would be anxious. Breath is a pretty relaxed Aspect, but when you know relaxation and how it goes, everything gets a little less placid.
Mages will usually suffer from the information they know. I take that as being worried about their independence all the time, scared that they’ll have to fight for it, anticipating any loss of freedom. Mages of Breath have difficulty balancing their trust in relationships, they know people have the capacity of holding others down and they will focus a lot on that knowledge. I can see them even being scared of getting a pet if they never had one, afraid they might get stuck, submitting themselves to yet more rules in the world they consider so stiff.
But they would be stiff too. Stiff about freedom, that is. I can see them being indecisive, not able to stick to a routine at all and sometimes allowing themselves to be taken through life by just “winging it”. However, they would always be aware of what they were doing. Mages are always aware.
4th God Tier: Seer of Breath
Seer is the Passive Class of knowledge. Seers are known to “study” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Seer of Breath, specifically, would be overall interested in the idea of freedom for themselves, focused on their goals and subtly working toward them. They would love learning about other places, traveling far away, and would likely not worry about it as much as a Mage (Active Class) would. Studying Breath, it can mean even being a pulmonologist. Isn’t that cool? But it also represents learning the patterns of all that happens that they’re unhappy with, so that they can find a better way to live for their objectives.
Seer is not an Active Class, so its characteristics are sometimes abstract and confusing. But a Seer of Breath really wouldn’t be bothered by confusion. They would try to discover what that confusion means for them, always interested in their wandering minds. They’d be alert about wandering, too. And would thrive from liberty, from being able to do anything they want whenever they want. They’d teach themselves about the flight inside them.
5th God Tier: Thief of Breath
Thief is the Active Class of stealing. Thieves are known to “take” from their Aspect and through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Thief of Breath, specifically, would be hard to convince, realistic, but a bit entitled in general. They would have issues sharing, much more than the rest of Breath Players, since their title literally means “taking the freedom for yourself”. A Thief of Breath may be extremely stubborn, hard to deal with at first. But they would be really confident and dedicated to what they craved. They just don’t want to be held down. And they might seem uncaring for some but they just have a singular way of dealing with the world.
In more literal ways, I wonder if a Thief of Breath would have a history with choking or controlling their breathing. Maybe they grew up training how long they could stay underwater, maybe they accidentally drowned or choked someone as a kid (or non-accidentally???), something that has to do with stealing breath. Or maybe it is more abstract than that, and Thieves of Breath have a tendency to fill in the free time in other people’s lives, perhaps being clingy or dependent on someone, asking for a lot of favors and so. Maybe they’d pay others to do their job for them.
6th God Tier: Rogue of Breath
Rogue is the Passive Class of stealing. Rogues are known to “redistribute” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Rogue of Breath, specifically, would tend to be helpful. Sometimes they’d help without meaning to. Being the title of “getting freedom and giving it to others”, I can see them being skilled in soothing people, good at giving advice, or at least slightly better than all the other Classes of Breath. Being giving of their freedom, I can see them offering to do people’s jobs for them, the opposite of its Active counterpart “Thief of Breath”. A Rogue will usually doubt their potential a little, so maybe they’d do that as a way to be considered useful, as their own positive way of conquering positivity for themselves. A Rogue of Breath might fill themselves with chores and create a routine to follow meticulously. Not saying they’d be good at that. But they would doubt their capacity to be productive through a relaxed non-scheduled schedule. Sticking to rules and order just sounds to them like the right thing to do.
They’d still be very detached. Rogues of Breath would sometimes hurt others through their lack of paying attention. But that would happen to many Classes of Breath.
Rogue of Breath is a canon Homestuck God Tier. Rufioh Nitram is the character that holds that title.
7th God Tier: Knight of Breath
Knight is the Active Class of utilizing. Knights are known to “handle” their Aspect and through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Knight of Breath, specifically, would have trouble with others controlling them, but would get used to it. Being a Knight means fighting for, so they would fight for freedom nonetheless, the passive acceptance not being able to stop their active dispute.
Knights of Breath may have had a past with controlling guardians, or maybe too many rules at school and rules they didn’t agree with at all. They will become independent early and through their own action and desire. That will be what’s in their head: achieving freedom and not being kept under anyone’s wings. These Knights might be stubborn. But most Knights are. But they wouldn’t work under the guidances of a King, they would be the ones controlling themselves. Breath is about flying, after all. These guys would be ruthless about it.
In literal terms, I can see Kights of Breath protecting others. Their ways of protection might be aloof and unpredictable, but they work that way. They’d be good at motivating others to follow their dreams, to let go of whatever might be weighing them down.
8th God Tier: Page of Breath
Page is the Passive Class of utilizing. Pages are known to “rise” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Page of Breath, specifically, would have a complicated relationship with control. Like Knights, Pages of Breath will have had experiences with others weighing on them or trying to tell them what to do, but unlike Knights, they are passive in argument and not as skilled in fighting for themselves.
Pages usually have some self-worth issues relating to their Aspect, which makes them exaggerate in everything they think they are able to do. In Breath, that can be reminding all the time that they are free, that they are independent and under their own guidance. It can be doing their best to be positive, but often being caught in the spider’s web. Pages have a lot of potential, and a Page of Breath might become unstoppable if well-developed. I can see them becoming their happiest selves after working through their fears and past issues.
Page of Breath is a canon Homestuck God Tier. Tavros Nitram is the character that holds that title.
9th God Tier: Maid of Breath
Maid is the Active Class of construction. Maids are known to “create” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Maid of Breath, specifically, would be more dependent on others, at least before personal development. They would trust other people more than themselves, especially when it was about liberty and flows. They would obey a lot, and probably wouldn’t notice they’re taking their individuality away. I can see them being controlled, under a lot of rules, maybe dealing with some form of emotional attachment to certain people or things. But with time they learn to let go and that they need freedom, peace with no reins holding them back. They fickle with everything for a while, but later learn how to balance independence and bonds. They create Breath, so they create their sense of security through freedom. I can see them being a little hot-headed at times, tired of being mistreated.
If one Breath Class sounds like they’d have asthma, then it’s Maid. Using an inhaler is basically creating breath, isn’t it? I like it when God Tiers are literal, so I’d love to see an asthmatic who is a Maid of Breath.
10th God Tier: Sylph of Breath
Sylph is the Passive Class of construction. Sylphs are known to “build” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Sylph of Breath, specifically, would be really tempted to make time for themselves, to train themselves and their independence, to travel a lot or at least want to travel a lot. They wouldn’t really be fans of responsibility, and guiding themselves would be easier through freedom and lack of routine. Sylphs may take a while to build up their objectives, but they are extremely focused and good with progress. I can see Sylphs of Breath, specifically, being into Yoga, but as a student, not a teacher. Yoga is focused on breathing, so passive creation of breath is like… kind of an Yoga thing. But that is just one little part of the various characteristics these Breath Players would have. I can also see them subtly leaving situations, going home without anyone noticing, having good stealth skills. They’d be able to bond with some Void Players about that, especially also Sylphs!
Literal sylphs are also air creatures. So Sylphs of Breath are double times air creatures. This makes them extremely flexible, “flowy”, if that makes sense. Easy to deal with.
11th God Tier: Prince of Breath
Prince is the Active Class of destruction. Princes are known to “wreck” their Aspect and through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Prince of Breath, specifically, would be very aggressive about their search for freedom, burning down situations sometimes, before they could even come up with a plan B. They would try to deny a lot of responsibilities, believing they can do everything their own way, that they can follow their own rules and that they will work. Princes may try to deny and think they can control their Aspect, but Breath will always come back to them. They will always crave that freedom and flexibility, not being as skilled in planning and bonding as they wished they were. They may get into a lot of small fights with friends, since they cannot understand how they don’t feel attached as other people do, as they are “supposed to feel”. They can be negligent of others and things when trying to make up for what they dislike. They will accidentally worsen situations when they get destructive.
These Princes would be rebels. They would be used to anarchy in all kinds of ways. They are really likely to be into political anarchy, by the way.
12th God Tier: Bard of Breath
Bard is the Passive Class of destruction. Bards are known to “deconstruct” their Aspect or through their Aspect, both literally and figuratively. A Bard of Breath, specifically, would be avoidant of responsibilities, but also unaware to live a life of full freedom. They would have issues with positivity, probably be the least optimistic of Breath Players. And they would try to take themselves away from what their Aspect is about, so flexibility, inspiration, independence…
I can see Bards of Breath, instead of depending on someone, having someone depend on them. Maybe they’d thrive at that, believing that they are lucky for something like that, that they should take advantage of that tight bond that they are not otherwise used to. They would be really misguided in life, following things they believe are right but getting lost in the way, of course, avoiding and deconstructing freedom. Sometimes they wouldn’t do it on purpose, it is just the way their brain guides them.

(HUGE SPOILER WARNING as I reference practically everything in the comic at some point in the analyses. I check for updates every 2-3 days so you can assume an update here on the same day as the latest update. And that's on hyperfixations babeeyyyyy 🫠🩷
Please PLease PLEASE contribute your thoughts!! i'd love to hear what you think ^w^)
I will update it as I work on classpecting them and finding speculative crumbs of information and then sorting them into the objective vs. subjective boxes.
EGOIZE KARIAS - PRINCE OF MIND (possible PRINCE OF HOPE) (EGO-IZE. Ego as in he's got a big one. He acts like he's the shit but he's really just a formerly rich manchild that acts on impulse. He retains some traits of the Mind aspect but for the most part destroys it (He left Tahoma with no choice but to lure him in because he refused to listen to her, for example. Same with Meeraz, he said she was talking bullshit). He is a very emotional man, (reminiscent of today's "sassy man apocalypse", but that's just my opinion as a reader) and lashes out like a kid would. Tahoma probably has to have served as his handler at one point.) (fun fact i ship my trollsona w/ him in <3<)
DULCAN THANAS - PAGE OF BLOOD (He is Responsible for Providing MEAT (flesh could be seen as a symbol of Blood). He is also responsible for Cladem's welfare and is very, very poor at it, having dismissed her at multiple points (up until the Cow Massacre, he wasn't receptive to her visions.) But once it happens, he becomes remorseful and apologizes, showing maturity and progress to his character. He DOES have a sense of Responsibility. Unfortunately, he believed her all too late and Cladem has to pay the price, not just his whole herd of cattle and a bunch of chickens minus one. He was mentioned as being "abysmal at talking to people let alone convincing them" (Recruiting people for a Team and Unity are part of the Blood aspect. Dulcan is shit at it but likes to see himself as being a Responsible adult that Knows his shit when he Actually Doesn't.).)
MAYDES "SKERRT" AURATU - HEIR OF BREATH/RAGE (Breath - He shoves off his Responsibility for taking care of his lusus because he is exempt from the Vast Glub's effects. That, and he's Lost in his Own Little World. He insists on being called by a few different aliases to the point that his fake name, Skerrt, is better known than his actual name, Maydes. Again, a sign of detachment from who he is at the Heart of the Matter AKA Maydes Aurata, Heir to Primarian ||'s throne. (A/N: IMHO, he's a little irresponsible shit and overall awful like every other man in the group but that doesn't mean I hate the story or characters, I'm quite passionate about both. I'm just saying he's just poorly behaved and is a bad person which is more of my arbitrary moralizing.) Another thing of note is that he's very rage-inducing for those who don't care for his carelessness and his ancestor wrote shit the wrong way and it led to things having to be written backwards, then flipped.)
TAHBBI DAEZON - ROGUE OF SPACE
KIMAIZ YELDAN - MAID OF TIME (He was treated like a workhorse, Overloaded with DEADLINES until his Internal Clock runs rut. He requires others, namely Amenia and Tahbbi, to buy him some TIME by way of blood transfusions or begging a certain blue cowfucker to back the hoof off for five seconds. He has a cantankerous mood due to being in a constant state of pain and misery due to his AVOIDABLE SITUATION.)
AMENIA LYPTRA - WITCH OF LIFE (She has a very Cheerful Personality in the face of adversity. She keeps Live eels in tanks, presumably to power her technology.)
CLADEM NECHRE - MAGE OF DOOM (Suffers from visions of doom that nobody believes.)
MEERAZ BAYAGA - SEER OF VOID
LOKERE SARONE - KNIGHT OF LIGHT
ELGIZA ?????? - BARD OF RAGE (Her creation, the Purple Doll Girl, causes everyone else misery. Perhaps, she wanted to give the purple girl Hope by making her a body (or a bunch of them...). She was stated as a good doll-maker by Kimaiz and was used as a dubious source of Hope for his regrettable situation.)
TAHOMA FLEURZ - SYLPH OF HOPE
DEJINN SILUDE - THIEF OF HEART (He's seductive, PASSIONATE and is canonically a trendsetter on Primaris ||. The way I interpreted it was he talks in a way that gives some people (Tahbbi again) the impression he's talking in double entendres like he wants something of a dirty nature. (A/N: I initially was made very uncomfortable by him and was a little scared of him. Like, I wanted to breeze through the fucking pages that had Dejinn, he was that upsetting to me. He reminds me too much of sleazy men that manipulate and lie to get what they want. Now I like him but don't like admitting it.) Thieves, like Princes, have inflated egos. He has Devoted Fans that would LITERALLY KILL for him. Also, the way it's phrased (he doesn't have interests but rather PASSIONS, if you incorrectly label them as something else Your Days Are Numbered, his PASSIONS include but are not limited to playing the acoustic guitar, filming and video editing, Network engineering, Jewel collecting and last but not least important SLAM POETRY (Something of note is that one recurring theme in Slam Poetry is IDENTITY-based politics). Dejinn is also stated to be the proud never before seen in trolls: Charisma. He *makes* you like him and if you don't, you're dead meat. From what I could gleam, He has a huge chunk of the Primarian population wrapped around his little finger, including critics and even a few of his teammates (This is a bit of a stretch, but Dulcan starts out seemingly annoyed by Dejinn then switched scripts mid-conversation, being Positive and saying they had a deal.)

Class keywords
ConSo a pretty consistently recurrin element of Classpect spec and analysis has 8een design8in one or more keywwords for each Class, wwhich keywwords sum up their respectivve Class’s schtick as succinctly and completely as possi8le. Here’s my take....with the added twwist that there are four keywwords each, an also I’m doin Aspects cos wwhy not. Sburb headcanons for your Dai Li ocs pleassssse (and Long Feng too i guess 😫)
asdlkhdslkfjlksdjfsdlkafl you actually asked
Okay so I don't have a complete list because I wasn't really thinking about it when I came up with these years ago, I just wanted to note the ones that were obvious/easy to figure out/intrigued me, so I don't have EVERYONE, but I have a bunch!
Some basic themes - Reeducation tends to lean towards Mind, obviously, and Preservation tends to lean towards Time, obviously.
Long Feng - Heir of Light He had to work for it, but everything DID pretty much just land in his lap after he managed to get all the pieces in place.
Shirong Zongzheng - Mage of Mind - Land of Silk and Lanterns Kinda iffy because we don't actually know how Mages operate, but one speculation is that they benefit themselves by arming themselves with knowledge pertaining to their aspect. Another is that they create their aspect.
Yong Diao - Thief of Blood or Heart Tuan Teng - Page of Heart or Blood I've never been able to make up my mind on these two, but whichever of them is Blood, the other is Heart. Yong is obviously a thief because he literally steals Tuan's subordinates and takes what he wants for himself in life, whereas Tuan is a Page because he...has a lot of potential but nowhere near as much self-confidence and this is kind of a Vriska/Tavros situation, unfortunately. :/ Blood is bonds and community, and Yong takes that from Tuan in a lot of different ways, but Tuan also needs to develop that for himself. Heart is soul and the self, and Yong definitely captures other people's attention and takes things for himself, while Tuan really needs to grow more comfortable and confident in himself. Either one works, really. I might be leaning towards Tuan being Page of Heart, tho, and Yong being Thief of Blood.
Delun Jing - Seer of Time - Land of Dust and Artifacts Listen. You can't tell me you're surprised.
Quy Dai - Seer of Heart Again with Heart and souls and stuff. I could probably rethink this one, I'm not overly attached to it, but it can definitely make sense. Quy is a very observant person, and he can see a lot of different things in each of his family members - many of which he then purposefully ignores or refuses to acknowledge, either because it'd cause trouble or it'd be awkward. Also, Seers and Knights tend to work well together, and, well...
Roulan Li - Knight of Blood She challenged Long Feng to a duel because of what he was doing to the Dai Li and she continues to work to make sure that their ACTUAL JOB isn't COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN over here.
Sunan Dai - Maid of Breath - Land of [IDK] and Poetry I don't care about gendered terms. :P Maids maintain, right? And Breath is individuality and freedom. Sunan suffers from a chronic illness that may or may not be sickle cell anemia, which can cause shortness of breath, and despite that he still does his best to create the life he wants.
Zan Dai - Witch of Time Look she's gonna turn out better than Damara ever did okay? Okay.
Wenli Dai - Sylph of Time I probably went for the Sylph title because her husband, y'know, has a chronic illness, and Sylphs are healers, and yeah. She can't literally heal him, but she can make sure that the time they have together is healthy and wonderful.
Mu Li - Heir or Mage of Time - Land of Thread and Stories I literally just came up with the classpect, lol, I only had the land ready to go. Either class would work for him, I think, but if he's an heir then he matches...
Peizhi Li - Heir of Blood - Land of Strings and Irises This is Roulan's mom and Mu's older sister, in case you forgot.
Antoan Nan - Thief of Mind or Heir of Rage Could go either way on this one. He's in Reeducation and he's a Nanyuese war child.
Now that I think about it tho, Heir of Rage could actually be a good class for Hoang Trung...she didn't exist when I first came up with these, lol, so she's not included unfortunately. I'll have to think about it!
Huo Bai - Sylph of Mind Shirong's most trusted subordinate, and definitely a healer.
Fen Bai - Maid of Space - Land of Sugar and Frogs Huo's wife.
Enlai Tong - Bard or Page of Light Enlai reminds Long Feng a lot of himself, I think, so I have them share an aspect to reflect that. Bard would fit because he kind of did use luck/fate to destroy Iroh's Siege by passing on the intel that got Lu Ten "killed." Page would also fit because he's another one with potential that he has to learn how to use.
Huang Xu - Knight of Life or Rage - Land of Pumas and [IDK] We haven't gotten to know Huang very well yet, but he is...definitely a protector, and also has a lot to be angry about.
Wu Sheng Shi - Rogue of Breath - Land of [IDK] and Laughter Rogues redistribute their aspect and Breath is, again, freedom and individuality, and trust me this fits.
~~~
And that's pretty much it so far! I do have a few more, but not for anyone you'd recognize and one's a spoiler, so. *shrugs* Maybe I'll share those some other time! And also any others I might come up with in the future! Thanks for asking this, this was fun! :D
The Problem with Authority - Chapter 1
CQL!Verse, Wangxian and Yanqing, canon divergence with Qin Su sacrifice summoning JYL after Jin Rusong’s death. JYL teams up with NHS to fix things, starting with bringing back WWX. Wen Qing is alive because I said so, and LWJ gets in the way of plotting because he’s a romantic.
The problem with authority is that if you leave it lying around, others will take it. — Yoon Ha Lee, Ninefox Gambit
Qin Su was tired of the constant hovering.
Every time she set foot outside her own rooms, she was beset by disciples and the wives of subordinates, telling her over and over how very sorry they were.
It was all bullshit.
Fake, social climbing schemers, who were more concerned with the fact that Jin Guangshan’s legitimate grandson was once again the sect heir, than sorry for the death of her son. Her A-Song.
They expected her to sob constantly, to wail and tear her hair from her scalp. That they could comfort Qin Su by repeating the same trite, cloying words day-by-day. Earn a little status out of tragedy. If Qin Su had to listen to one more apology, she was going to be sick all other the offending madam’s embroidery hoop.
It was true that she still couldn’t go a day without crumbling into tears. But mostly, she was numb. Exhausted, in more ways than one. She wanted to go to sleep, and wake with her son tucked safely into bed, or not wake up at all.
The private treasury was the only place where she could be certain she would not be disturbed. Even in her own bedroom, it would only be so long before a maid was sent to find her. Only she and her husband could open the hidden entrance to the vault. Only in the treasury, could she be alone, to find something to distract herself, however briefly, from the avalanche of her grief.
There were still many items that had been claimed by her deceased father-in-law after the war that had not been cataloged. Priceless relics and weapons and irreplaceable texts alike sat neglected in trunks. Jin Guangshan had cared only for possession, occasionally touting one item or another out to show off. Ten months after A-Yao’s succession, shelves continued to sit empty. Neither she nor A-Yao had found the time, busy keeping everything running smoothly, as he made bids for projects he called progress with the gleam in his eyes that had first made her chase after him. Back when he seemed flattered by her attention, interested in her as more than a friend or colleague.
Qin Su herself managed the internal minutiae of the Sect and oversaw disciple training. The latter would traditionally fall to the Head Disciple, but they had lost one after another. The woman who had been intended to aid Jin Zixuan had resigned over some disagreement before his death. Her replacement, a second or third cousin to the main Jin Clan, married out to the leader of the Fengyang Hua Sect, a growing sect that bordered Gusu and Lanling. Their replacement died at Nightless City, along with the next dozen or so disciples in line. And so Qin Su was free to manage the training as she wished.
Or had been, until she was asked to take a step back from training, for fear her grief would destabilize her qi. It was true that she had been unable to focus. However, stewing in the unending reminders that she would never hold A-Song in her arms again was no help. Attending to her duties as a hostess only made it worse.
Sorting the looted relics was mindless work, that required none of the focus she had lacked for the forty-one days since A-Song’s death. But it was something to occupy her hands, and some small part of her thoughts.
She began with the books that day, sorting into titles that were common and could be sold, those that needed to be repaired, and those to dangerous to be held anywhere but the treasury. Qin Su moved to start a new pile, for useful, rare texts that should be copied, on a table, and a disorganized pile of notes and notebooks caught her eye.
It was the disorganization that stood out. A-Yao never left anything out like that. He must have been called away, but if he returned and saw it, that would trigger his own flood of tears.  Qin Su had heard him sobbing, late into the night, from the next room over. But each morning, he greeted his work with his habitual dedication, no matter how puffy his eyes, or how little he’d slept. A-Yao would never forgive himself if his work was delayed by his composure crumbling over a small thing out of place.
She picked up the papers, intending only to organize them into an even stack, and place them evenly between the notebooks. But their subject caught her attention.
A circular array was drawn on each paper. Identical, to her unpracticed eyes, with varied notes printed in precise calligraphy in different locations on each page.
Qin Su had always focused on the sword, leaving talismans to those with innovative minds yet weaker cores, like her husband. Yet this array made her look twice.
Sacrifice Summon was written at the top of the first page, the one with the least writing. The soul of the caster is permanently exchanged for that of a chosen spirit or ghost, fully resurrecting the deceased. It was a complex design, meant to drawn in the blood of the caster.
Voices, from the other side of the portal. A-Yao must have wanted to show an item from the vault to a guest. Her heartbeat sped up, her hands shaking as she dropped the papers back onto the table.
The last thing Qin Su wanted was to have to greet her husband’s guests, while he smiled his disappointment in her for shirking her duties.
She raised the tablecloth and ducked beneath, knocking one of the papers off the table as she did so. Catching it, she pulled it to her chest, dropping the cloth back into place just in time. It was dark in the small space, and stuffy. Her heart hammered hard enough Qin Su felt certain it must be audible throughout the room. But her presence was not discovered, and so Qin Su did not have to answer as to why Jin-furen was hiding from her own husband.
“The remainder of the He Clan has been dealt with.” Su Minshan reported. His voice was easily identifiable from the obsequiousness with which he always treated her husband. She’d asked A-Yao what he saw in him once, and he’d flashed his dimples at her and said, unfaltering loyalty is a trait I cannot afford to lose. So Qin Su tolerated Su Minshan, though he made her skin crawl. And made certain never to be caught alone with him. “Xue Yang tracked them down to the last man.”
Why he kept Xue Yang around, on the other hand, was a mystery.
“Good, that’s good,” A-Yao said. Never shy of heaping praise on his subordinates, he would be smiling up at the other man. “Tell me, what did Xue Yang bring back with him?”
“A few urchins, from town. He said they were his payment for leaving the bodies alone.” Su Minshan scoffed, disgusted.
It didn’t sound like Xue Yang had brought the children to become disciples.
There was the slap of a forehead hitting a palm. A-Yao’s voice was slightly muffled as he gave an exasperated sigh. “I told him he could experiment with animals or dead bodies or not at all. Especially not children.” There was the slightest break in his voice at the word children. “Xue Yang has outlived his usefulness. Have him disposed of and left somewhere remote.”
The command was delivered coldly, casually. He sounded nothing like the warm, if more distant than Qin Su had initially expected, husband she knew.
“Yes, Zongzhu.” A pair of disciples said, their footsteps receding as they took their leave.
“Your research is not completed, is it?” Su Minshan asked, once they were gone.
“I have better means now. My dear younger brother is eager to please, and will not dismember the test animals for kicks and giggles.” A-Yao spoke as though this was an ongoing discussion, yet Qin Su, his wife, had never heard a whisper of research on animals before that day. Only of field testing of the Yiling Patriarch’s inventions. “Or decide to run tests on townspeople and dismember them, too.”
Just what had her husband been allowing Xue Yang to do? It seemed impossible that flighty little Mo Xuanyu could achieve it, whatever it was.
“Another headache eliminated, then.” Su Minshan said. “That’s nearly all the most dangerous ones out of the way.”
There was a weighted pause before A-Yao replied, incongruously. “I did love my son, you know.”
“I did not mean to imply otherwise.” Su Minshan rushed to assure him. “I am deeply sorry this step was necessary.”
Step? What was he implying about A-Song?
“If only that woman had told you the truth earlier.” Su Minshan snarled. “Keeping it a secret while her daughter courted her own half-brother? What a selfish bitch.”
What? Qin Su clapped her hands over her mouth, stifling a choked gasp.
“Now, Minshan, please. You remember what my father was like. We were all of us his victims. A-Su, me, and both of our mothers.” For the first time, Qin Su understood what Lianfang-zun’s detractors meant when they said he dripped insincerity. “Ultimately, A-Song’s death can be placed at his feet.”
But A-Song was murdered after Jin Guangshan died, she thought stupidly. Utterly frozen in place, the short, harsh pants of her breath the only sign she had not just been dropped into hell. The two men spoke for a few more minutes, but Qin Su didn’t hear a word.
It was some time after they left that Qin Su moved, her stiff joints causing her to fall onto her side on the edge of the tablecloth.
How was she ever supposed to face the court, knowing what she did now? Look her half-brother in the face without screaming?
The honorable thing would be to expose him, and to then take her own life to restore her own honor.
She couldn’t. She couldn’t do that to her father, to her older siblings. Half-siblings, now, she supposed, with a crazed giggle. The only real siblings, the only real father Qin Su would ever have. It would be better if they never knew what had happened to their mother. To her.
But she couldn’t carry on as she had, either.
The forgotten paper crinkled in her hands. The Sacrifice Summon. Exchanging her life for another’s.
Was that the solution she was searching for? Could she?
Qin Su remembered her husband’s - her brother’s voice saying especially not children. Only breaths before declaring his own son’s death necessary.
Her A-Song was lost forever.
There was, however, another child under Lianfang-zun’s care. Another mother whose son was not lost, but who had nevertheless lost the chance to see him grow. If Qin Su exchanged her life for that woman’s, perhaps her soul would pass on quickly enough to find A-Song in another life.
Jiang Yanli would see Jin Ling grow up safely, ensure Lianfang-zun did not keep the power he had married his own sister and murdered his own son to secure.
That would be best for everyone.
Qin Su shakily extracted herself from beneath the table, returning to the one room she could be certain Lianfang-zun would never enter.
Now she knew why.
Locking the door to her room, Qin Su emptied what little was in her stomach into the chamber pot. When she was through, she began to draw the array.
 The first thing Jiang Yanli noticed was the silence. She had been on the battlefield at Nightless City, pushed A-Xian aside, and a sword went through her heart —
She had been dead. She was certain.
Oh, A-Xian. What did you do?
Slowly, Jiang Yanli sat up. She was sprawled on the floor of a well-appointed lady’s bedroom. In Koi Tower, by the color scheme, but its occupant had uncommon taste. Rather than gilded everything, there were accents of gold on the drapery and to emphasize ink paintings of the ocean and a palace she did not recognize.
There was also the matter of the array of blood that surrounded her. Demonic cultivation, which only supported her certainty that A-Xian was involved. But where was he? And if she was in Koi Tower, where was her son?
Yunmeng, something inside her whispered. Though she could not explain why, she knew it was true.
Checking herself for cuts, she found a gash across the palm of her hand. But it was already sealing, far faster than Jiang Yanli had healed from so much as a paper cut before her death.
She wasn’t an expert in raising the dead like her brother, but Jiang Yanli was fairly certain fierce corpses did not work that way. At the very least, she should have been bleeding black. Yet her blood was as red as ever.
Getting to her feet, she started to inspect the room for clues. On the way to the desk, she passed a mirror. Her gaze skipped past a mirror. And snapped back.
It was not Jiang Yanli’s face that looked back.
This woman’s face was rounder and softer than her own. Pretty, with a natural pink in her cheeks where Jiang Yanli’s had always had to be painted on, due to the frequency with which she lost her breath and grew dizzy. There, too, was a hint of the agelessness that came with a fully developed golden core. With a feeling of foreboding, Jiang Yanli felt along her meridians until she reached her core. No longer a weak, underdeveloped thing due to her inability to practice the heavily physical Jiang techniques, it shone bright and strong.
That was a point against this being A-Xian’s doing. He wouldn’t have stolen her a body, when he could simply bring back her own.
Why am I alive? Asked a voice in her head.
That would have been a reasonable question. Only it wasn’t Jiang Yanli thinking it.
Maybe resurrection came with the ability to understand spirits. The results were entirely untested, so it was possible. Yet the voice seemed certain it was alive. If her current state was due to demonic cultivation, she might as well do what A-Xian would: experiment.
“I could ask you the same question.” Jiang Yanli told the voice.
Jiang Yanli? It worked! But why am I in your head?
“Are you the one who brought me back?”  She tilted her head back, trying to place the way the voice made her head feel. Almost like the moment at the start of meditation when she began to forget her body to focus on her spirit, but with a disconnect keeping her grounded.
Yes. And then, I can hear your thoughts, the voice said, you don’t need to speak out loud.
That was disconcerting. Is this your body? She thought at the voice.
Yes. The voice said. Stop calling me that. I’m Qin Su.
Strangely, it was a relief to have a name. It made Qin Su feel more real than anything else in this surreal afterlife. So it would be more accurate to say I’m in your head. Am I possessing you?
It was supposed to be an exchange. My soul for yours.
Well clearly, it hadn’t worked that way.
Responding to her unformed question, the woman continued. The array is on the desk.
This… It was obviously A-Xian’s work, copied out by a more careful hand. But it looked incomplete, a half-developed first draft or his scattered notes on an older text that he could always piece back together perfectly, but left out crucial details for anyone else. Utterly unlike the labeled, if nearly illegible, minutiae on his complete work. Jiang Yanli would never have cast an array with so little information. Especially not one of A-Xian’s.
I didn’t know the Yiling Patriarch. And I wasn’t exactly thinking clearly.
No, she supposed not. Anyone casting this array would have to be desperate.
Everything fell apart and I just… used what I had on hand. There was the impression of a shrug, like her mind contorting itself into a new shape. My impulse decisions always have terrible consequences. That’s how I ended up pregnant and marrying the last person in the world I should have. Qin Su gave a short, harsh burst of hysterical laughter, startling Jiang Yanli into making the same noise aloud.
Telling whoever this abusive asshole was that her husband had died only a week ago, and she was certainly not performing any marital duties could wait until she figured out what Qin Su had done.
There are other pages with more notes in the treasury.
Jiang Yanli sprang to her feet. I’ll need to see them immediately.
She slid open the doors, and came face to face with a maid carrying cleaning supplies. Jiang Yanli quickly shut the doors behind her, so the maid could not catch a glimpse of the blood still staining the floor.
“Oh! Jin-furen.” The maid bowed deeply. “This one apologizes for assuming you would be out.”
It was something of a shock to be addressed by a title that had, from her perspective, belonged to her mother-in-law only yesterday. Jin-furen?
Ah, yes. I’ve been Jin-furen since Jin Guangshan… passed… ten months ago. The word “passed” came with a flash of embarrassment, telling Jiang Yanli enough for her to extrapolate the cause of death.
Jin Guangyao must be Jin-zongzhu then. Strange, he hadn’t seemed the abusive type.
Not abuse. Worse. Qin Su gagged in her mind, making Jiang Yanli do the same.
“Are you all right, Jin-furen?” The maid asked, hovering closer.
At least the gagging gave her an excuse not to allow anyone inside. “I’ll be fine. But please wait to clean until tomorrow. I’m afraid I’m not feeling well. Would you have some soup sent on a tray for my dinner?”
“Of course, Jin-furen.” The maid backed away, bowed, and hurried off.
Jiang Yanli turned to inspect the door, placing her hands on her hips. With Qin Su’s Golden Core, she could likely cast a locking spell. If she knew how, that was. She had always relied on A-Xian’s talismans, many of which he developed specifically for her. Unfortunately, she had none on hand.
That’s easy. Qin Su said. Draw the characters for lock, then modify it with…
It took Jiang Yanli a few tries to draw properly on her new core, but she was able to lock the door against casual entry. No cultivator with a sword would be kept out for long, but they would have to be willing to trespass in Jin-furen’s bedchamber.
The thin flush of victory faded the second she stepped through the treasury portal. Suibian lay on a shelf, visible from the door. A-Xian had not carried his sword for a long time. But he would never have handed it over to the Jin Clan, unless it was directly into Jiang Yanli’s arms. Something had gone terribly wrong.
Qin Su. Why is my A-Xian’s sword in the treasury? Jiang Yanli demanded. The answering silence was deafening. “Qin Su! Tell me why!”
He… died. At Nightless City. Not long after you did. Qin Su’s voice was hesitant, as though confused why she cared.
“No!” She let out a choked sob, clasping a hand over her mouth. A-Xian wasn’t — he couldn’t be —
Didn’t he kill you? I was told —
“No! Never!” A-Xian would never have hurt her. I tried to save him.
Silence, for a moment, other than Jiang Yanli’s own ragged breaths. Then, I’m sorry. I’ve learned a lot of things I believed were lies today. Perhaps what they said about him was too.
They were. A-Xian was bright, and good, and cared too much. He had never been what they thought. Jiang Yanli had not needed to ask to know A-Xuan’s death was a horrible mistake, likely the result of stepping in between his cruel, vindictive cousin and her brother at the wrong moment. If he had meant to kill Jin Zixun, A-Xian had had good reason.
I think anyone who had the misfortune of meeting Jin Zixun considered killing him. Qin Su said wryly.
Jiang Yanli had had those thoughts. She gave a watery giggle that was answered in her head. It was sweet of Qin Su to try to comfort her when she could feel that she was still reeling for her own reasons. The least Jiang Yanli could do in return was get her some answers.
On the table.
She found the stack of diagrams easily, along with a tattered notebook that appeared to contain A-Xian’s original work. Jiang Yanli flipped through that, knowing that unless had both gotten a hold of one of the few people that could read his note-taking scrawl — her, Lan Wangji, and perhaps Wen Qing, who had taken their turns as A-Xian’s sounding board in succession — and convinced them to help details would likely have been missed.
You can read that? Qin Su was incredulous.
Years of practice, she replied. Before Lan Wangji, Jiang Yanli had been the only person who took A-Xian’s inventions seriously, the only person willing to sit and listen while he bounced from idea to idea, eventually solving the problem himself.
The average person would not think it necessary to puzzle out the text under a sketch of Lan Wangji holding a child, assuming it was a caption. When it was, in fact, an absolutely crucial detail. A detail that had made A-Xian conclude the Sacrifice Summon Array should never be used.
There were perhaps a dozen variations on the array. Most worked in a similar way to what Qin Su had intended, summoning a spirit to take the caster’s place. The earliest could not target a specific soul, but A-Xian had worked that out. Luckily, Qin Su had used one of those arrays, allowing Jiang Yanli to be summoned, rather than causing the closest vengeful spirits to battle for her body. The very last caused the caster’s body to be torn apart, and replaced with a copy of the spirit’s own.
But every version had two things in common: a call for revenge, and the destruction of the caster’s soul.
In her mind, Qin Su went perfectly still.
Jiang Yanli had a theory as to why Qin Su’s soul had not been consumed by the array. It had started the job, pulling Jiang Yanli in, but Qin Su had not asked for revenge, and so the array spat most of her back out. What the consequences were, for either of their spirits, she could not begin to guess.
There was a distinctive air of panic to Qin Su’s continued silence.
Qin Su, Jiang Yanli prodded, if this had worked the way it’s written, your soul would have been consumed by it. What could have been worth this?
I didn’t know about that. I didn’t want that.
It didn’t happen. You’re still here. She attempted to reassure Qin Su, wishing there was a way to mentally pat someone on the head. That had always helped calm both her brothers.
I’m still here. Whatever the fuck that means. Qin Su giggled nervously. That wasn’t very ladylike.
I think it’s forgivable, under the circumstances. Jiang Yanli raised a sleeve to cover her smile.
You don’t know the half of it. Qin Su sighed. I didn’t think things like this happened, outside of stories.
Jiang Yanli waited for her to go on, gritting her teeth in response to a wave of bitterness.
Only a few hours ago, I found out my so-called husband is my half-brother and he murdered our son. And now here we are.
Oh. Jiang Yanli could not so much as think of a reassuring response. What the fuck is correct.
“A-Su,” Jin Guangyao said from behind her, before Qin Su could say anything more. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Note
Hopefully a 12 player session isn’t too much for you? It’s a human session, so that’s why there’s no signs/blood color stuff. Prospit: Knight of Doom, Page of Mind, Thief of Heart, Bard of Breath, Sylph of Life, Mage of Light Derse: Witch of Time (leader), Heir of Space, Prince of Blood, Seer of Rage, Rogue of Hope, Maid of Void (Also, I’m sorry if this bothers you, and you may ignore this part if you want, but I follow the Active Knight/Passive Page headcannon.)
Hey hey no problem! Imo classpect stuff in HS is so loosely defined that there isnt really one “right” headcanon for the most part and i can really switch out most of the active/passive stuff with fairly good reasoning either way. Heck I headcanon some classes as having completely different counterparts! :B
But onto the analysis: First off you have a Space and a Time player! And they aren’t destroyer classes! Save for a few pitfalls you may encounter you’re set there!
Prospitans:
Knight of Doom: Your session doesn’t have enough Doom! What an interesting representation! Naturally Doom is an aspect looked down upon, but in this context I could see it as something similar to trickster mode. Remember when that was all smiles and happiness (save for Dirk) with no satisfying growth for the characters? It’s like that. Your session has a serious lack of rules that make it satisfying to complete! In this sense the Knight of Doom may appear like one of the destroyer classes: A necessary evil. Some kind of force that, while at the beginning rejects their classpect to not seem like such a fuddy duddy (ghosting Life) has to become a more stern figure in some way so people aren’t just doing as they please with ease.
Page of Mind: Your session’s end reward will be Mind. At the end of the session you will be more able to think as a group and work towards a common goal much better. If the Page recognizes their true potential, they’ll be an amazing strategizer that, as a Prospitan, can see the big picture of their plans.
Thief of Heart: Your session will have Heart taken from it. Kind of fits with the Knight of Doom, as if there is less Heart, there is less likely of a chance that people will act on a whim and their feelings. Also fits with the Page of Mind in that while you lose some Heart, in the end you gain a greater surplus of Mind.
Bard of Breath: Your session’s greatest challenge will be Breath. Again fitting with the Knight of Doom! Too MUCH freedom and detachment, allowing you all to do what you want when you want when that’s not what sburb is about (in the end goal at least). The Bard will try to be a Blood player and keep people more focused and connected, but if their shift to Breath isn’t exactly positive, they may be a sort of explosive force of Breath, making people feel like they must exert their freedom and will/impact onto other things.
Sylph of Life: Your session will be aided by an outside force of Life. Given the Knight of Doom classpect, this is... a little odd. If there isn’t enough Doom (ie an inverse of Life) then... an outside force of Life HELPING you seems a little counterintuitive. It’s possible that the people in your session simply aren’t experiencing the aspect of Life the RIGHT way. You’re only taking the “fantastical element” part of it, and not the “healing and betterment” parts of it. This outside force is meant to set you straight.
Mage of Light: Your session’s lifeblood will be Light. Knowledge, fortune, and luck will permeate and define your session. I see this more in the fortune and luck department, though the knowledge part comes in later as your Page of Mind represents. Your Mage of Light will know plenty about how this game is... a little more lucky and out there than the usual session, but somehow manages to never benefit from this out there-ness.
Dersites:
Witch of Time: Your players hope to get Time. Time is destruction, linearity and getting work done. If your session lacks Doom (ie rules and structure) its understandable to see why your players would prefer to have a more linear session. Doing as you please is fun and all, but after a while you either realize the session is doomed or you have no linear flow.
Heir of Space:Your session is ultimately about Space. Given that Space is creation and innovation, its easy to see how your session revolves around this. Your session is blessed with fortune through the Mage of Light, Your Sylph of Life means you’ll have even more opportunities to do the impossible, and your Knight of Doom means you lack destruction itself. Your session is about gods truly being gods, doing and creating as they please for an odd amount of time.
Prince of Blood: Your session has.... too much Blood? Given your Bard of Breath this is another stumper. I suppose that Blood can also be the aspect of stubbornness. Your group is too stubborn to stop all this willy nilly “do as we please” nonsense? At least at first, but then the Witch of Time aspect comes in later in the session, when you’ve had all your fun and want to finish playing. Blood is very loosely defined, on the same par as Doom or Rage so it’s harder to say, despite it being opposite to Breath. I apologize if this answer isnt satisfactory <:B
Seer of Rage: Your players will try to win with Rage. Given the Rogue of Hope below, clearly this is not the right way to do things. However, when faced with an impossibility your players will try and brute force their way through it, because that’s what they’ve been doing the whole game! They’ll get stressed and frustrated that this thing is causing such a huge difficulty spike.
Rogue of Hope: Your session’s greatest asset is Hope! And why wouldnt it be? With this session everything sounds incredibly freeform and successful. While in the troll session this hubris caused them pain, your pride will likely be the thing to pick you back up when you’re at your lowest!
Maid of Void: Your session will negatively be affected by... nothing! Again fitting the Knight of Doom, as you lack a real clear danger at, at least at the start. Naturally the Maid of Void represents that... there are no outside forces that are likely to harm you (in the long term at least). However, this means infighting is going to be inevitable.
Warnings: As I just said, infighting. With the Prince of Blood destroying bonds and ties, this can lead to some serious issues with friends turning to enemies. This can actually be saved with the Bard of Breath’s transformation into a true Breath player, but it can also be worsened greatly. The Witch of Time must have an eye kept on them. As seen with Damara, if a Witch feels like they can/want to do something, they’re going to. Don’t let the Witch of Time mess up the entire time stream because they felt like disrupting the status quo. Leader or not, they’ve got to control their power like any other Witch. Given Doom’s propensity for failure, if the Knight of Doom tries to assist the Space player, the genesis frog is likely to come out wrong or not at all.
Goodies: A Rogue of Hope is a wonderful classpect that would spread hope to all of those around them! They’ll help you when you face that tough difficulty spike! A Seer of Rage might be able to see through all the bs of this session and how fake freeing it is, so listen to them even if they sound crazy. Same goes for the Bard of Breath: if your session just has no rules or boundaries set in it, someone who destroys that lack of control should have some attention paid to them. Bards and Princes are often a necessary evil (no offense to destroyer classes again <:B).
All in all this session sounds REALLY solid. Like. I can already envision you guys on the victory platform. You’ll have some trouble within you but other than that once you get over those bumps you’ll be super set to either tackle that frog or initiate a scratch (which a Witch should have no problem doing). Best of luck to ya!
Hey I know Homestuck Day is over, but I redrew a group of fantrolls I made awhile ago and I’ve been thinking about them a lot now.
The original on the left I did like 2 years ago, I liked a lot about their designs still, but wanted to tweak a few things.  Names and classpects stayed the same though.  Full list of names, classes, and descriptions under the readmore.
Also their all very gay/very queer because why the fuck not.
Lovlei Platon: Arlo sign, Prospit dreamer, Seer of Heart.  Everyone’s best friend.  Non-threatening and very friend shaped.  Sounds naive and innocent, but is very in tune with what people are thinking and very good at reading the room.  Likes to play match maker.  (she/her pronouns, cis girl, bi)
Auroch Koupre: Taurmini sign, Derse dreamer, Knight of Doom.  Very serious and stern.  Does not trust anyone higher than jadeblood.  Hard work is all that matters to her, and people minding their manners.  Has a weakness for pretty girls. (she/her pronouns, cis girl, lesbian)
Meikoo Rypton: Gemsci sign, Derse dreamer, Page of Life.  A physically weak girl who struggles moving around, but has made up for it by inventing machines to assist her in day to day function.  Her matesprits are a good help as well.  She hates being treated like she’s helpless though.  Make that mistake and she’ll send you hurtling across the room with her psionic powers. (she/they pronouns, nb girl, pan)
Vanri Damzel: Canga sign, Derse dreamer, Mage of Space.  A limeblood hiding out in a deep forest cave, yet still acting like a Disney Princess.  A Disney Princess with a a terrible rage.  They’re like a DnD barbarian.  But only when their friends are in danger, and they have no memory of it afterward.  It is both hilarious and terrifying. (they/them pronouns, nonbinary, pan)
Tallin Khifun: Lenius sign, Prospit dreamer, Witch of Hope.  Listen, this guy is just ready to throw hands at all times.  He loves combat and everything about it.  He wants to fight big monsters.  He will throw himself at them.  No matter how much his friends beg him to stop.  He wants to hone his body into the perfect fighting machine.  And also have huge muscles so he can BE REAL GOOD AT HUGGING. (he/him pronouns, nb guy, pan)
Avrani Vollur: Virra sign, Prospit dreamer, Bard of Mind. He lives in a library, surrounded by old lost tomes that few trolls ever lay eyes on.  He’s well read, but long winded.  He also adores puzzles and riddles.  His friends appreciate his knowledge and teacher-like demeanor most of the time, but his inability to get to the point sometimes irks them.  He also may or may not be seeking forbidden dark knowledge. (he/him pronouns, trans guy, gay)
Franzi Appell: Lipia sign, Derse dreamer, Prince of Light.  This is basically the Vriska of the group.  She’s a bitch.  And she knows it.  But she’s a smart bitch.  She has intimate knowledge of political systems and how to exploit laws and rules to the fullest, making her ideal for beating a game like sburb.  But she’s just insufferable most of the time.  She likes to start drama for the sake of drama. (she/ her pronouns, cis girl, bi)
Oratta and Methea Argema: Scorcer and Scorcen sign respectively, Prospit and Derse dreamers respectively, Sylph of Blood.  These twins aren’t a standard on Alternia, as they share one body.  Whether they are two grubs who fused at some point, or one mind that developed two alternate identities, they’re not sure.  But they make the most of it.  They consider each other siblings, and usually leave notes for one another to keep themselves informed.  Though the constant swapping can sometimes be confusing to their friends.  Oratta is the more light hearted of the two, usually opening the bottom set of eyes when she’s awake.  She’s a wild and free spirit who likes to take risks and try new things.  Methea is more reserved, using the top set of eyes when their awake.  They’re the type to step back and examine a situation before making any moves.  Everything is like chess to them.  (Oratta: she/her, girl, ace)(Methea: they/them, nonbinary, pan)
Kabara Venous: Sagiborn sign, Derse dreamer, Rogue of Rage. Kabara is that dude with an acoustic guitar that you meet on a college campus who takes philosophy courses and biology at the same time.  Sometimes he says a thought out loud without thinking first, but he’s willing to take criticism and learn.  He’s fond of music though, even if his blueblood strength sometimes gets in the way of his ability to play guitar. (He/him pronouns, cis guy, bi)
Thorne Jastor: Capries sign, Derse dreamer, Thief of Time. Thorne is a surprisingly calm indigoblood who is desperately trying to hide the fact that she’s so calm.  Often having to fake her rage and destruction to play the part.  But she hates it.  She just wants to chill, play weird goth music, and overthrow the establishment.  She also gets nervous during confrontation.  She has chucklevoodoos, but hell if she knows how to use it or what it does.  (she/her pronouns, trans girl, lesbian)
Glamur Hassel: Auittanius Sign, Prospit dreamer, Heir of Void.  Always taking selfies and obsessing over photography and aesthetics, he struggles to focus on real problems or other people sometimes.  He’s also quite hard headed and stubborn.  But when push comes to shove, he’s very reliable, and he gives 100% on any task he’s given.  (he/him pronouns, cis guy, bi)
Kirina Galeos: Pius sign, Prospit dreamer, Maid of Breath.  A girl who lives for the thrill of the hunt!  She enjoys chasing down and outswimming sharks.  She has an impeccable skill for harpooning.  She also enjoys crafting weapons out of teeth and bones of her prey.  She’s a bit of a show off, and has quite an ego, but it’s not entirely without reason.  She talks a big game, and she can back it up most of the time.  (she/him pronouns, nonbinary girl, pan)
mind-to-show-strength said: What would my *newest troll session look like with the following Godtiers: Knight of Space (F), Maid of Blood (F), Rogue of Life (M), Mage of Breath (M), Thief of Mind (F), Heir of Time (F), Page of Heart (M), Prince of Void (M), Bard of Light (M), Sylph of Hope (M), Witch of Rage (F), Seer of Doom (F). [They all go in the hemospectrem order, with the KoS being a Rustblood and the SoD being a Fushiablood]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quite an all-caste game, this Sburb/Sgrub is, isn’t it? I’ll be going by the assumption that these trolls are from Alternia, where the hemospectrum is going to indicate a difference in caste ranking between players. Let’s go through them in order, shall we?
Tumblr media
So, your burgundy-blooded Knight of Space is gonna have some trouble if she doesn’t have any close friends/quadrants among the other players. As the Space player, her job is vital, and as the Knight, the game doesn’t really expect anyone in particular to help her. Also, her classpect will ensure that the players have to deal with Space-related shortage throughout the session. The Maid of Blood, the bronzeblooded player, will likely be the Knight’s best source of help as she works to keep everybody on the same team and working together, despite their many differences. Being a Blood player is difficult, especially in a troll-heavy session. Your yellowblood, the Rogue of Life, might be one of the first to offer help to the Knight, being both close in social rank and prone to gathering resources for others. The Mage of Breath is going to have a rougher time of it. As a limeblood, he’s already on the proverbial (possibly literal) chopping block in troll society, so it makes sense that he’ll want to work alone, keeping tabs on everybody’s movements and charging ahead, trying to prove himself valuable.
Tumblr media
The oliveblood, as a Thief of Mind, may be able to tap into his classpect’s potential earlier than most, as his greener blood hue might grant him some telepathic ability to steal the plans and ideas right out of the heads of others. A jadeblood is expected to have some understanding of maintenance, and the Heir of Time’s change of duty from “Mother Grub” to “timestream” might not feel like all the big a leap. Your Page of Heart might feel like his “make everybody feel good” classpect is a little beneath him, given the civil service ranking of most tealbloods, but if he sets his minds to it, he can get the job done adequately. It’s the Prince of Void where things might feel a little dangerous. Any cool-blooded troll with the Prince class is going to be a potential timebomb, and a ceruleanblood like him will be only too happy to crush anything that gets on his nerves and send it into the Void.
Tumblr media
Now we come to then highbloods and start with one that can be either a huge boon or a major threat: The Bard of Light. Through a twisted sort of luck, this indigoblood is going to bring about the destruction of anything that gets in his way, just by having it be in his way. Still, if anyone can keep him calm, it’ll be the purple-blooded Sylph of Hope. If the Bard is one to follow the law of the hemospectrum, hopefully they’ll look past the oddities of the Sylph’s caste and listen to his sage advice. Dipping into the sea-dwellers, the violetblood Witch of Rage may also prove to be a sewer of chaos if the Sylph and Maid don’t keep her in check. One can only hope that their world’s heiress, the fuchsia-blooded Seer of Doom will be able to lay down the law as she sees it and keep everybody from losing their shit and making a mess of things.
Tumblr media
Yup, troll sessions can be a bit crazy, but hopefully it’ll all come out alright. I like the look of the Sylph and Maid’s presence, which may balance out the Bard’s interference and the Witch’s possible meddling. Remember that it takes all hues, and good luck!
If this is open: what's your take on a session with a Page of Blood, Knight of Doom, Mage of Void, Maid of Heart, Seer of Time, Heir of Space, Rogue of Hope, and Bard of Breath? If it's relevant, the Maid has a lot of beef with the Knight and Mage. Sorry if the askbox is only open for reasons of mod application stuff, I wasn't sure. Have a nice day either way.
Here’s our second Forgotten Ask!  I am so sorry this sat here for so long just for me to take like a couple hours with it.  Look, this was sent when we were still accepting mod applications!  Here’s your session, again below the Keep Reading.
Page of Blood
Personality: Pages are known to be very weak and impressionable.  Like the knight, they are very insecure about their weaknesses, but instead of acting impressive, they display their weakness in hope that someone will help.  As a Blood player, they would be very awkward and distant.  They can only grow once they become confident in their interpersonal relationships.
Abilities: The Page of Blood would eventually be able to bring people together with bonds of steel.
Session Contribution: This player will be the source of much of the team’s cohesion in the late game.Knight of Doom
Personality: Knights are a very insecure lot, typically using their aspect to attempt to create a facade that makes them seem more impressive.  As a Doom player, they would try to appear intimidating and dangerous, like Death incarnate, but in reality, they are depressed and concerned for their friends.  To develop as a person, they must learn to trust others and lower their walls.
Abilities: The Knight of Doom is the wielder of death itself.  They would be very proficient with many different weapons, and ultimately, they may be able to temporarily raise the dead.
Session Contribution: Knights are called to sessions with a shortage of their aspect, so this session will likely have too few people dying, if that makes sense.  The Knight’s job is to make the most of each death to make up for this lack.Mage of Void
Personality: Mages tend to be very intelligent and bright, but also tend to be jaded and cynical.  However, they gain their knowledge through experiences, often painful ones.  As a Void player, this person is likely often forgotten or neglected in some way, or often harmed because they’re accidentally left in the dark, allowing them to learn how to properly use their Void powers!
Abilities: The Mage of Void gains knowledge of secrets and mysteries for their own benefit, so I believe they would be a master manipulator, using secrets to pull strings, or perhaps a true magician, using hidden, forbidden knowledge to wield black magic.
Session Contribution: This Mage is a wild card, so if you can manage it, try to make their learning experiences pleasant.  Otherwise, they can really mess your shit up.  Overall, this player is rather offensively focused for an observation class.Maid of Heart
Personality: Maids often feel a great deal of responsibility that was pushed onto them without their consent.  They feel that it is their job to ensure that everything is working properly, even when they are not recognized for their efforts.  As a Heart player, this Maid would most likely be a strong matchmaker, or very obsessed with personality tests.  However, I doubt they will be very successful in love.
Abilities: The Maid of Heart maintains the soul and its emotions, so they may be able to create people (not living humans, though, that would be a Life player’s domain), undo the damage done to a person’s soul, or be able to ease a person’s emotions.  One thing’s for sure, though, they would be one hell of a matchmaker.
Session Contribution: The Maid of Heart is a very helpful support, and I highly recommend they get over whatever problems they have with the Mage, because they can likely ensure the Mage will have a more pleasant experience realizing their powers, and side with the team instead of going rogue.  Seer of Time
Personality: Seers are exceedingly intelligent, bright, and calculating.  They are the people who seem to be wise beyond their years, though they are often afflicted with hubris.  As a Time player, they would be perfectionistic beyond belief, and regularly feel that they aren’t doing enough even when they are the most productive member of the team.  They would also feel significantly hopeless, as the future does not change easily in SBURB.
Abilities: The Seer of Time will be able to see visions of the future regularly.
Session Contribution: It is the Seer’s job to warn the team of any dangers up ahead.Heir of Space
Personality: Heirs tend to come off as very dumb, but a more accurate term would be happy-go-lucky.  They are very much a representation of “ignorance is bliss,” for they tend to grow up very sheltered and secure, especially under by aspect.  As a Space player, they would gain their safety from distance, likely leading a simple life isolated from society.  Heirs tend to struggle with change, as they tend to get comfortable with where they are.
Abilities: The Heir of Space’s chief ability is teleportation to safety, although they may also possess reality-warping abilities that they may eventually learn to consciously control.
Session Contribution: The Space player’s job is to breed the Genesis Frog, but other than that, I feel that this player may feel rather disconnected from the others.Rogue of Hope
Personality: Rogues are very selfless people, as they share a worldview with Robin Hood.  Their strong sense of justice and equality makes them easy to talk to, as they are very respectful.  They are also very spunky and ready to do what’s right!  As a Hope player, they tend to be especially concerned with social justice and equal opportunity, and they will be very trusting of others.  Sometimes, the Rogue puts themself into danger to right a wrong, so make sure they understand that it’s okay that life isn’t always fair.
Abilities: The Rogue of Hope is a very strong asset, as they can reallocate their enemies’ success and potential to the team.  This may manifest in the ability to take their very will to fight away and giving it to the team.
Session Contribution: The Rogue is a very important morale booster for the team, and depending on your interpretation of Hope, they might be able to solely win you the game.Bard of Breath
Personality: Bards tend to be extremely fixated on their aspect to the point of worship, or at least obsession, and they are only happy when they are able to share the wonders of their aspect with others.  They are so fixated with this positive image of their aspect, whatever that image is, that if someone were to break it, they would go crazy.  This is why Bards are exceptional berserker fighters.  As a Breath player, the Bard would have a warped sense of individuality, refusing to listen to others and only taking his own path.  Their break would result when they discover that they couldn’t do everything alone.
Abilities: Bards invite destruction through their aspect, so in addition to their berserk fighting style, they can also likely break up the team, making them either stronger or weaker.
Session Contribution: The Bard is likely going to wreak havoc on your team, and for once I’m not talking about a killing spree.  However, they are an absolute powerhouse.
Player Interpersonal Dynamics
Keep the Bard and the Page as far away from each other as possible.  The Bard will be very vocal about their distaste for conformity and how important it is to be your own person, and though that is all true, it will only get in the way of the Page feel comfortable with their aspect, which represents all the things the Bard is against.
The Page and the Rogue will be wonderful friends.
It upsets me that the Maid has beef with the Knight and the Mage, because those two can really benefit from the Maid’s calming presence.  If the three can bury the hatchet, the chances of betrayal will drop significantly.
The Mage and Heir will either be very emotionally supportive of each other (they experience similar difficulties in their lives) or they will hate each other’s guts (they deal with those difficulties extremely differently).
Session Overview
Leader: Ultimately, the Page of Blood would be the best leader, but until they master their abilities, they can probably use a lot of help from the Rogue of Hope.
Offense: You are covered very well by the Bard, the Mage, and the Knight.
Planning: Seer of Time is overpowered, and the Mage of Void is also very powerful if they are allied to the team.  Treat them right.
Survival: Knight of Doom is a good sign that very few people will die, the Seer of Time can likely avoid unwanted timelines, and the Heir of Space will very likely avoid death no matter what, but other than that you don’t really have any players who can really heal.  Prevention is key to your session.
Frog Breeding: The Knight and the Heir will both likely need some time to master their powers, but once they do, they would probably get it done.  Not a legendary pair, but a pair nonetheless.
Loyalty: At first it seems abysmal, because Mages of Void tend to have a lot of angst, Doom players in general are angsty, and the Bard of Breath is…well…the Bard of Breath.  The Maid needs to step up and keep everyone happy, at least until the Page of Blood can figure out how to bring the team together.
Overall: The beginning seems to be a very bumpy ride, and the team doesn’t have a lot of very “compatible” players, but I have faith!
I thought up of a good bloodswap.
I might draw some of ittttttt. It’ll only be sketches though.
Details under the cut.
Kanaya Megido - Maid of Space/Porrim Megido - Witch of Space Nepeta Nitram - Page of Heart/Meulin Nitram - Rogue of Heart Terezi Captor - Mage of Mind/Latula Captor - Heir of Mind Eridan Vantas - Knight of Hope/Cronus Vantas - Seer of Hope Gamzee Leijon - Rogue of Rage/Kurloz Leijon - Mage of Rage Aradia Maryam - Sylph of Time/Damara Maryam - Maid of Time Sollux Pyrope - Seer of Doom/Mituna Pyrope - Knight of Doom Equius Serket - Thief of Void/Horuss Serket - Sylph of Void Tavros Zahhak - Heir of Breath/Rufioh Zahhak - Page of Breath Feferi Makara - Bard of Life/Meenah Makara - Prince of Life Karkat Ampora - Prince of Blood/Kankri Ampora - Bard of Blood Vriska Peixes - Witch of Light/Aranea Peixes - Thief of Light
(Key is has canonical parallels to Homestuck, has canonical parallels to Vast Error, and finally oops I replicated my own fantrolls)
Anyway, I don’t have much of a canon for them except:
Sollux was blinded by Eridan, his kismesis. It was probably less “hey, I’ll mind control HIM to mindcontrol HER’ and so on and more like... a physical altercation, y’know? Sollux is really despondent about the justice system, but in a way that’s like... ‘well, if you can’t beat-em,  join-em’.
Terezi is a vigilante/activist, seeing the empire as something that justice needed to be served against. As Vriska is the emblem of that empire, Terezi befriended her, and then attempted to assassinate her. Vriska caught on, and almost killed Terezi, before giving her voidrot.
Gamzee is just... constantly in Rage Mode. I think Bruce Banner’s line of “I’m always angry” applies, because basically he can do crazy stuff while still being somewhat sane. Somewhat.
Eridan basically boasts the boons of listening to the Empire, he’s a huge supporter and that his crooked belief system. In turn, Karkat is defiantly against those ideals, but thinks he’ll get culled for standing up for them, so he’s just like... supremely quiet and passive, even when he shouldn’t be, thereby destroying any blood between him and his friends.
Karkat and Vriska are like... neighbors. Imagine them as the neighbors continually trying to one-up each other and figuring out ways to get the upper hand in the name of reputation, but when they actually talk, it’s all niceties and polite conversation. They hate each other, but they’d never show it.
Nepeta... is supreme cat lady. She lives in the woods and is a witch. Her ancestor probably did the same thing as the Summoner, but got burned at the stake instead. Y’know... witch symbolism... Even though neither Meulin nor Nepeta in this AU are witches.
FEFERI IS ABSOLUTELY HUGE AND SOFT AND CARES A LOT ABOUT HER FRIENDS AND HUGS THEM... so hard they die. Oopsie. She sees the church’s policies as opposite its ideals, and seeks to reform it. She hates Eridan for... well... his beliefs, and Sollux for the fact that despite having the same opinions as her but about the justice system, refuses to do anything about it.
If y’all have anymore ideas, I’d love to hear it. It’s sorta bare-bones at the moment. Something might change too... especially Sollux...
excerpt: gods of earth c
when i started writing 'someone will remember us (even in another time)', i knew i had to limit myself to certain characters. some of them aren't heroic, and therefore wouldnt be seen as gods; some are just irrelevant. i eventually settled on having the alpha kids, the beta kids, calliope, and the surviving trolls (vriska, terezi, kanaya, karkat, aradia, sollux) be the gods. i did, however, write short bios for other characters (such as the dancestors)! here's a list of some of the god names i came up with for them.
tw for mentions of canon sexual assault, the use of the c slur, misogyny, ableism, and generally stuff i dont agree with. part of the point of this series is just how badly earth c misinterprets everything bc for Me earth c is like. This world but also we have trolls and carapacians and consorts and some people can do magic and religion is different. but homophobia/transphobia & misogyny & ableism etc still exist.
tavros: page of breath, the eternal child, peter pan, keeper of the little ones, animal whisperer, the cr*ppled god (derogatory, ill fight them), the boy blessed with flight, he-who-will-soar-above, the cowardly bull (modern, can be derogatory).
nepeta: rogue of heart, the longing one, the clawed goddess, the watching lover, catnip, she-who-loves-but-has-sharp-teeth, huntress of hearts, the woman of the pairings, cat lady (modern, can be derogatory)
equius: the heir of void, the archer, the horseman, he-who-has-everything, the maker of hearts, the broken tooth, the cavalryman, the builder, the obedient servant, the sweaty one (modern)
gamzee: the bard of rage, the clown, the raging beast, the butcher, he-who-cannot-die, the unkillable, the painted man, son of salt, the fucking juggalo (modern, derogatory)
eridan: the prince of hope, the betrayer, he-who-is-the-killer-of-angels, the admiral, the white villain, the scientific alchemist, the turncoat, the jealous one, incel (modern, derogatory, and also true).
feferi: the witch of life, the uncrowned princess, she-who-is-the-last-of-empresses, mother sea, bitch of life (derogatory, relatively modern, and also fight me), heiress of the deeps, carer for the horrorterrors, queen of dreams
damara: the witch of time, slave of the white doctor, the scorned girl, daughter of green, the handmaid/en, the betraying bitch (modern, derogatory, shut the fuck up) she-who-was-broken-by-time (much of my interpretation of damara comes from the fic "all the corpses stare back")
rufioh: the rogue of breath, the breath-stealer, the handsome one, he-of-revolutions-and-wings, the cheating bastard (modern, derogatory, also its true), the communer, the summoner, he-who-laughs-flying
mituna: the heir of doom, the broken son, he-who-was-bright-and-then-dimmed, the psiioniic, the helmsman, the retard (modern, derogatory, also everyone who says this gets killed by sollux, and also me), the honeyboy,
kankri: the seer of blood, the man without signs, the preacher, the speaker, the blood dreamer, he-who-was-born-again, son of scarlet, the sjw (everyone who calls him this does it for the wrong reasons, modern)
meulin: the mage of heart, the disciple, the lioness, she-who-heard-and-was-deafened, the deaf listener, recorder of truths and teachings, apostle of the bloodseer, that deaf one (people dont consider this derogatory, but 1) it is and 2) its dismissive as hell and rude, modern)
porrim: the maid of space, the dolorosa, the maiden mother, she-who-nurtures, daughter of darkness and light, the lady jade, the cavern dweller, the unsilenced woman, the raging feminist (derogatory but absolutely something she’d be like “yes, and?” about)
latula: the knight of mind, the neophyte, redglare, she-who-swings-from-nooses, the betrayed lawyer, dragonwoman, the quiet lover, she-who-was-burdened-with-a-broken man (NO she wasnt earth c, her relationship w/ mituna is a happy one and the fact that hes disabled doesnt make him a burden), the lovesick idiot (modern, derogatory- YES shes in love with mituna, NO that doesnt make her an idiot)
aranea: the sylph of light, the pirate marquise, the mind & the fang, the betrayer, the twice killed, the captain, she-who-escaped-the-noose, the rapist (derogatory, reference to her sexual harassment of jake and her sexually assaulting the dolorosa as mindfang)
horuss: the page of void, the executor, darkleer, sparer-of-the-disciple, the mistress, he-who-let-loose-that-final-arrow, homewrecker (derogatory, modern- not exactly true. rufioh did cheat on damara with him, and he knew that rufioh was dating damara at the time, but horuss didnt set out to seduce rufioh)
kurloz: the prince of rage, the highblood, the grand clown, the god with the threaded mouth, the laughing king, he-who-no-longer-speaks, son of the paint & blood, breaker of the disciple (i wouldnt call this derogatory as much as ‘blaming’- it refers to kurloz making meulin deaf and also ghb torturing the disciple by forcing her to see the sufferer’s torture)
cronus: the bard of hope, the orphaner, dualscar, the breaker of spades, the smirking son, he who makes much music, the hipster douchebag (modern, derogatory, and absolutely correct)
meenah: the thief of life, the imperial princess, the rebel daughter, she-who-killed-friends-to-save-them, commander of the dreaming dead, the sleeping queen, daughter of gold & tyrian, the bitchy tyrant (modern, derogatory)
caliborn: the lord of time, lord english, the skeleton king, he-who-eats-the-world, the breaker of clocks, the enemy
the condesce: the condesce, the condescension, the evil trollqueen, she-who-searches-forever-for-a-throne, the mother of the sea, queen of darkness and derse
thats pretty much it for the Big Titles. theyve also got names for other, smaller characters:
davepeta is the wandering knight of change. (dave is a knight, and nepeta was a rogue: therefore a ‘rogue knight’, a wandering knight. the time aspect is about, well, time, and the heart aspect is about the understanding of self; as time goes on, one’s understanding of oneself changes and grows, therefore their aspect is change- so the wandering knight of change.)
arquius is the royal of secrets. (i hc hal as being a prince of mind, and equius is an heir of void. both heirs and princes have an element of royalty to them (even if heir isnt strictly royal). mind is about ideas and knowledge, and void is about hidden things and nothingness- so hidden ideas & knowledge is secrets. thus, a royal of secrets.)
jasprose is the lioness of the sun (she doesnt have much of a class; jasprose doesnt act like much of a seer tbh, but she definitely has a light aspect. she doesnt fit within many classes, and her ‘catness’ is something she emphasizes and is very comfortable with. she’s very strong and powerful as seen in the collide fight, and she has the light aspect and is connected thru jasper to the land of light and rain; thus, a lioness (big cat) of the sun.)
nanna is the nurturer of creation (she fits well as a maid of life, but that’s jane’s title, and we cant give her that, so nurturer because nanna is very nurturing- helping john throughout the game, raising dadbert (most well-adjusted character of all time)- and because creation is a synonym of life)
Taz but they play sburb au
okay. so. let’s just put this on the table where we can all see it:
taako: heir of mind
lup: maid of hope / prince of rage
barry: prince of heart
lucretia: rogue of light
magnus: knight of blood
merle: page of life
davenport: witch of breath
john: muse of doom
the hunger: lord of doom
controversial? maybe. am i right? also maybe.
i know technically you a space player to breed the genesis frog. but, alas. i do not care about canon.
so the birds play the game, and they win! they’re just about to claim the ultimate reward when something goes wrong, as things are wont to do. black opal begins to fall from the sky; dark tendrils crush the victory platform before anyone can even think to open the door and then turn towards the players.
the group just barely escapes to the furthest ring on one of prospit’s battleships as the hunger consumes their entire session.
the void between planar systems sessions is… wobbly. time and space aren’t linear there. the starblaster passes through the threshold between realities, and suddenly the veil is spread out before them.
well, not their version of the veil. this derse doesn’t have enough spires; further exploration reveals that there’s only three planets orbiting skaia.
this isn’t their session.
so! they make contact with its’ players: an owl, a wolf, and a bear.
since there’s nowhere for them to go when they go to sleep, the birds end up traveling thru dreambubbles. ghosts whisper rumors of the hunger, a virus that doesn’t just kill other sessions but overwrites them, passing on the “glitch.”
merle falls asleep one night and meets a man named john.
once upon a time john was just another kid who played sburb. upon learning the true nature of the game, he decided that if this was the only way to exist, then nothing should. he’s the glitch that corrupted his session’s code. john is to the hunger as caliborn is to lord english… that’s my hot take.
merle hears “living is suffering, existence is meaningless,” and gives john the proverbial finger. john “kills” him; merle wakes up. they continue like that for a while.
meanwhile, the group tries to ingratiate themselves into the session and help these players beat their game, but just as they’re is about to meet them on the victory platform, the hunger arrives once more. the royal beasts are consumed with their session. the starblaster flies away.
so the birds fly from session to session, trying to help out where they can and come up with contingencies for when they can’t. there’s one game where the players are mongooses; another where they’ve all died and implanted their souls into robots à la aradiabot. the hunger chases them thru the furthest ring, to each and every session, and overwrites them all.
lup and barry theorize that a hard reset might fix the corrupted files… so when they arrive in their 99th session, lucretia scratches it.
thirteen years later, taako, magnus, and merle play a game.
bonus:
the crew of the starblaster went god tier, so they don’t age.
lup and barry got that tiger much earlier than anyone else, but since it’s much easier and more practical for your party to become conditionally immortal in hs, the others eventually follow suit. LOL.
i couldn’t figure out how to work the voidfish in but it’s definitely like… a baby horrorterror that magnus befriends, right? if you listen too closely to its whispers, it scrambles your brain. is this what happens to davenport? maybe?
lup and barry, out in a laboratory in the veil, manage to avoid the scratch; they’re stuck in the medium while the others get rewritten, forced to wait an entire decade for their friends to grow up all over again. lucretia, meanwhile, becomes a guardian.
or maybe not? if tres horny boys are official players, she and davenport would be too… maybe she’s just the de facto leader of their group.
carey, killian, avi, johann, and angus also play this last game of sburb with the boys.
where’s kravitz? he’s definitely there, somewhere. maybe he’s in the dreambubbles, guarding the dead, like aradia? perhaps.
the light of creation is this au’s “ultimate weapon" à la the juju in homestuck. it’s a tool that lets you edit the code of sburb on like… the game developer’s level. it’s a story editor. using that, the ultimate reward ends up becoming a new reality rather than a new universe - sort of like a scratch, but for the source code.
maybe that’s what the hunger is actually looking for? if it can snag the light then it can erase everything all at once.
johann is a muse of hope who inspires everyone to fight back, and lucretia and co. use the light to create a new reality - one with no sburb, and therefore no game-breaking entities like the hunger. everyone lives, mostly! no one dies, mostly. except for john. johnny voreboy definitely gets got.
protagonists of an alternate sburb/sgrub session.
my Mind player - friend who helps keep me grounded in reality when necessary [and maybe calms me down when I get nervous or worried] may help others by sharing information. mage of mind. [actively knows mind] TJ, probably ENTJ. The Mind aspect's ties to spirit are made evident through its ability to resurrect fallen players in conjunction with Time powers
i think a hope player will initially introduce me to the game of sburb/sgrub. theyll recommend it as a way to help me get my mind off of all the stuff that has been constantly on my mind and eating me up inside. I could see them as the leader of the group and the one that enters the medium first. Maid of Light [actively makes light] ENFJ [uses guns]
a rage player could always have my and the others backs and serve as our secret weapon i guess. Prince of rage. [actively destroys rage] ESTx   this aspect may have an effect on brute strength.  Rage can also deal with sanity or madness
breath would definitely be our hippy gamer friend. I picture a female breath player for sure, and theyd be really close to the hope player. witch of breath, maybe? [actively changes breath] ENFP  Breath also has connections to direction, freedom, detatchment and confidence.  Breath is tied to changes, as well.
I could imagine a rogue of blood in our group who assists and is on extremely good terms with our rage and hope players. [passively steals blood] ISTP I imagine they would  be a strong networker and information broker for some reason. Manipulative and influential, but in the best interests of their allies. Blood stood for fighting and having a warrior spirit   They introduced me to the hope player and determined the best possible fit for our group session or the hope player introduced my crew to the blood player who determined we were a perfect fit.
I could see a life player as a possible love interest, or maybe a moraill, or a moraill that verges on another quadrant. It would be mutual but whether or not it would work out would be another thing. Heir of life. [passively changes life] ISFP The Life aspect is some kind of innate "life force" of living beings. Life players displayed the ability to heal teammates by repairing grievous wounds, and even resurrecting themselves. Feferi and Jane's Life powers appear to glow in the player's text color.
I imagine a doom player would be a very intimidating member of our group that mainly interacts with the rage and blood players but admires the mind player a lot. Theyre the strongest of us, but because they are so mentally unstable, they could become our enemies at the blink of an eye. Bard of doom. [passively destroys doom] INTP
Knight of hope would be my destined matesprit, but hes hard to get close to and goes through a lot of changes. He is greatly respected in the group for his wisdom and insight but he tends to go solo most of the time. [passively serves light] [goes through a phase where he comes across as an INTJ, but hes really an INFJ]  So far all Hope heroes have been shown to use guns as a Strife Specibus. [my knight of light uses swords and guns]  Hope is tied to "aura" attacks.  The Light aspect is equivalent to "fortune", and involves power over luck and fortuitous outcomes.  Light could mean "knowledge".  It could be knowledge, not as in information, but more so awareness, the opposite of Voids obfuscation.  Light players may possess some degree of control over light itself.  Another relation to Light seems to be that Light players are easier to sense from a great distance throughout paradox space.  It is possible that most planets from Light players are aquatic, as Rose and Vriska's denizen lived inside an ocean and liquids are a Light/Void thematic. Both Rose and Vriska have had Cetus for their denizen.
space, time, and void players will be part of our group as well, but Ill only interact with them when necessary. Maybe the Time player will get along swimmingly with the hope player and the life player. The hope player will help me get to know or more likely, appreciate the time player better, I suppose. The void player will be like a brother to me, but we just wont interact much because weve grown apart over the years. The space player will be the character I get to know last and I dont know how it will happen or how close we will be. Maybe Ill admire them from afar. Not romantically, but as someone I can see myself in and relate to.
sylph of space [passively makes space]  ISFJ both Kanaya and Jade live in similar homes, next to a Frog Temple, and their dream selves are both awake before entering the session.  A Space player's Land contains their session's Forge, which plays a vital part in the creation of the new universe as well.  Space players seem to have a connection with life: Both Jade and Kanaya are botanists, Porrim has a motherly personality and her post-scratch self acted as a mother figure for The Signless.   The associated denizen of the Space aspect is Echidna. Frogs is a requirement in the name of their personal planet.
page of time [actively serves time] ESFJ  Time players having a connection to death,  Time players, who are all associated with red.  While Dave's timetables are built on red gears, reminiscent of the ones in the Land of Heat and Clockwork, Aradia's devices appear to be the comb and cylinder of a music box encased in large quartz rocks.  The Hero of Time also has a feature installed in their personal world in the Incipisphere: a large structure that will obliterate the game session and reboot it by rewinding everything to long before the game starts in an event known as the Scratch. It is a last resort, and would (ideally) result in better starting conditions if the players' session is doomed.  Time players also seem to have a loose connection with technology
thief of void [actively steals void] ENTP The use of bare hands is essentially the lack of a weapon, playing into the theme of Void being the essence of nothing.  The Void aspect may be related to the Furthest Ring, which has been referred to as "the void". They can summon inaccessible and permanently lost items by concentrating and might summon some things of that nature without meaning to. On this note, they can create things that never existed from scratch. I see my void player as a longtime professional gamer, and while their skills are epic they only benefit them, not anyone else. but even though this character knows a lot of trivia, people dont want to listen to them because its useless trivia and ends up being low-key insulting if anything. People may secretly envy their success, but the void player is such a braggart it just ends up sickening them to think about it.  All known Void players have created a "void" around themselves to distance themselves from the world.  Void players may potentially also have the ability to become invisible in some sense. Our void player can teach me how to not only identify and accept loss, but also to lose gracefully and transform losses into empowerment. They can teach me to have the courage to win and how to handle sore losers. They can teach me healthy boundaries and how to ethically reject people and things that arent good for me.
Im a seer of heart. [passively knows heart] INFP
Knight Radiant Classpects
Kaladin - Sylph of Breath
Breath is apparently about leadership through example - something the Kaladin embodies almost perfectly. In addition to this Kaladin also very much embodies the expansive, “spirited” facet that is often speculated to be a part of Breath.
I’ve put Kaladin as a Sylph partly because he’s still a surgeon in some ways (and the Sylph is a healer class), and partly because out of all the classes Sylph’s are the ones who seem to have interest in/care about others the most.
(also imo this would be his troll sign)
Shallan - Knight of Hope
In general Shallan lies in two ways. The first way is that she uses denial to protect herself from painful memories and creates false personalities. I think that this is very expressive of the Knight class, since if there’s anything that the canonical Knights have in common it’s a false personality/emotional facade that they use bury their trauma.
The second kind of “lie” Shallan tells is much more positive: Shallan inspires people to be better versions of themself by showing them their potential (specifically using drawings of who they could be), and I don’t think their is an aspect that fits this better than Hope. Not only is hope probably the best aspect for artists of all kinds, but it very well represents the kind of “lie a better future into existence” ethos Lightweavers are meant to follow.
(also imo this could be her troll sign, but I’m not too confident on this one)
Dalinar - Heir of Blood
Blood is the aspect of bonds, which fits Dalinar’s order very well, but blood is also about tenacity and sheer force of will, and as such represents Dalinar throughout his life.
Heir is harder to articulate. Part of my belief that Dalinar is an Heir comes from the fact he is already very combatively strong from the first point we see him chronologically (similar to how Equius and John are strong from the beginning/get strong very very quickly). Another part of it is that Dalinar has “inherited” some things from other people - he inherits “the way of kings”, his highstorm visions, and the Alethi codes of war from his brother, and it’s possible he will inherit the shard of honour.
(imo this would be Dalinar’s troll sign)
Eshonai - Page of Heart
Eshonai’s struggle is ultimately a fight for herself - and is therefore one of Heart. She constantly worries about the how the different forms affect thinking, cautioning Venli about this, disapproving of how different mateforms are (and avoiding matespren for this reason), and hating warform for how it affects her. Tragically she takes on stormform (before Brandon lies and says she dies) and loses herself almost entirely.
Page is another class that is hard to articulate my reasoning for. I think part of it his that I can’t honestly believe that what we see in oathbringer is the end of her arc, but part of it is that the young Eshonai does seem to have a Page like optimism?
(I think this might be Eshonai’s troll sign)
Szeth - Mage/Maid of Rage
Apparently Rage is about preferring truth to stability, and Szeth’s arc going forward (and Nale’s, incidentally) seems to be very much about rejecting the false belief/legal system of stone shamanism in service of the truth, and before that Szeth was known as “truthless”.
I say Mage mainly because Szeth was apparently trained with all ten surges? This makes him very knowledgeable which is about the only thing thing we know about mages, but he could also fit the Maid class if you’re willing to subscribe to the theory that Maid’s suffer through their aspect and most of the other classes were taken by the other characters so...
(imo this would be Szeth’s troll sign)
Jasnah - Witch of Light
Light seems obvious for Jasnah, as she is the archetypal knowledge seeker, to the point where even her spren is based around the concept of ink. Even beyond knowledge Jasnah is said to have a “flair for the dramatic” and if there is one thing that binds together Rose, Vriska, and Aranea is dramatism.
I say that Jasnah is a Witch because of the mystery and reputation that surrounds her. In canon Witches are very clearly separated from their peers by their knowledge and background. Jade is the clearest example of this in that she has so much more plot relevant information John starts calling her psychic, but I can also very easily see Feferi and Damara’s friends viewing them as “different” because of their backgrounds.
(imo this would be Jasnah’s troll sign)
Renarin - Seer of Mind
Renarin’s powers already make him an archetypal role of the Seer, but more than anything I think he’s almost defined by his knowledge in some ways. I’ll admit I’m more sceptical about this assignment, and I can also sort of see Renarin as a Page, but I like Seer more for Renarin and can rationalise him as being a sort of “reluctant Seer”.
Mind also feels like a bad fit, but we’re told in Adolin’s pov that Renarin takes longer to consider the words he says than most people do, and Ren is also relatively rationally minded.
(imo this could be Ren’s troll sign)
Lift - Rogue of Life
I’m pretty much convinced by the idea Lift is a Rogue. Across every canon example every Rogue’s greatest flaws are their unwillingness to face their problems head on and their tendency to avoid difficult conversations. Lift fulfils this very well, both in that she never stays in one place and gets attached, and in that she would rather stay the same age forever than face the future. Also she’s a thief. So there’s that.
Life is the aspect of healing, and apparently heroes of Life are also great listeners, making it almost the perfect aspect of an Edgedancer. Finally it’s speculated that Life is represented in comic by food, which also represents Lift.
(imo this would be Lift’s troll sign)
