Summary: The Yiling Patriarch's demonic cultivation sect is invited to help fight a massive waterborne abyss. Exhausted and half-drowned from battling ghouls, Wei Wuxian meets Hanguang-jun. Kay's comments: This is an AU of an AU, basically, it was inspired by LtLJ's series "Fated", which I [and Mojo] also absolutely adore [Mojo's Rec]. Wei Wuxian grew up around the Burial Mounds and started his own sect with the Dafan Wens and here they have their first outing assiting the Lan Sect with dealing with the Waterborne Abyss. Lan Wangji meets him after the fight and takes care of him and ah, they are just so cute and I love how they immediately click, like two puzzle pieces fitting into place. Excerpt: "There is no need for thanks." Lan Wangji started to make tea, his movements precise and elegant. "You are one of the demonic cultivators." "Yes. You -- your sect -- invited us here." The feeling was returning to Wei Wuxian's hands and feet in pinpricks of sensation, the warmth of the tent sinking in, and what he actually wanted to do was curl up next to the braiser and sleep. "We had word of your efforts in Yiling, on the river that was affected by the Burial Mounds runoff." Lan Wangji placed a cup of tea in front of Wei Wuxian. "And it seemed obvious that you would be expert with ghouls." Wei Wuxian couldn't fault that logic. And until this moment he had wondered if maybe the Lan sect had invited them accidentally somehow, and not as a deliberate, sensible quest for helpful knowledge. "Sorry we haven't been more, um, friendly. I bet everyone thinks we won't invite people to our tent because it's full of demonic evil, but really we're worried that if the sects see our dirty laundry it'll ruin the whole Burial Mounds mystique." He still sounded like a raspy crow, rambling. He sipped the tea, the warmth clearing his thoughts, and pulled himself back to the point. "We've had some issues with the other sects, at times. The Jin, the Su."

Random MDZS Recs Part 2

I found some more gems hiding in my bookmarks. The sheer number of MDZS/Untamed fics that I have found worth bookmarking is kind of remarkable. Part 1 and 2 of these lists make up less than half of the whole selection. This is such a prolific and talented fandom. This is another collection of favorites that I have enjoyed reading more than once, or that were compelling and/or unforgettable in some way. Same warnings as my other lists, all ratings and categories apply with no discernible organization at all.

Believing himself to be dead, and this afterlife to be some sort of punishment, he resigns himself to a painful existence. Until Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng rescue him, and he realises he has a chance to change things for the better - if he hasn't messed everything up already.

A few minutes turns into an hour, turns into two hours, turns into an impromptu literal field trip and now there's an entire class that is weeks ahead of their curriculum, their most junior disciples have apparently imprinted on Wei Wuxian like baby birds, and Lan Qiren has no one to blame but himself.

Rereading the Retrograde Series by LTLJ and The Jenny Code by Domenika Marzione and remembering how intensely I loved being in SGA fandom for a long time, feels like it was decades ago. Also remembering what a hankering I had for Sheppard in heroic peril ensemble fics, but that came hand in hand with the series itself honestly.

I think the John pic I drew for LTLJ's story might have been my first fanart ever, idk where all that fanart urge has gone now, but at least the fics are still around to reread.

Butterfly Effect- Ehyde

Time Travel but it’s more about returning to a changed time line. Junior Focused where WWX, WN live, Yiling Wei Sect, LSZ as a Wen. Incredible

I think it was primarily Jin Ling pov, there’s lots of really good emotion in it where I felt for everyone and the guilt of wanting a bad time line so you have the right people back- I loved it

Standing Alone- Fortune Maiden

Nie brothers and NHS focused. Time travel- but playing around with it and having fun. NHS comes back to very shortly before the Phoenix Mountain Hunt. So plenty of time for time travel to have effects- of natures.

I love time travel and I love fics that don’t play time travel fix-its entirely (or at all) straight so this was great fun

Brotherhood- LtLJ

Canon divergence, JGY needs WWX’s golden core to bring him jack, so brings JC to Lanling and JC has opinions on this. Anyway good relationships between all of them and NHS even show up for a scene!

Summary: Lan Wangji had come to Carp Tower to seal an alliance with the Yiling Patriarch, in order to prevent a war the Lan Sect couldn't win. But the deal was brokered by the Jin sect for reasons of their own, and instead Lan Wangji found himself all but coerced into an unexpected marriage.

My comments: I just want to live in this series. I'll bring my comfy chair and my cats and favorite bits of art and I'll never leave. This world is engrossing and I love it to pieces. The characterizations are perfect, and entertaining, the set up is great, just... the whole story is on fire in the best way.

In this AU, wwx has been in the Burial Mounds for most of his life (well, he's on his third life now, but...) and alone for much of it. But now he's got the Dafan Wens to protect and be his family. But the Jin want something from him, and he's been 'encouraged' to visit Carp Tower through some strategic hostage-taking and information that Cloud Recesses had plans to attack them. Meanwhile, the Lan have been told that Cloud Recesses is under imminent attack by the Yiling Patriarch unless they cement an impromptu alliance. So with no time to breathe or ask questions, boom, wangxian are married, willy nilly.

Of course, nothing is as it seems, and these two smart boys figure it out quickly. But that doesn't mean that lwj isn't committed to his new husband and his family, a stubborn attachment that only grows stronger as he learns wwx's tragic past and witnesses his bright humor, fierce love for his family, and very sharp mind. (The fact that he's young and beautiful is purely incidental.)

Excerpt 1: ...they had no choice. The wars of the previous generation and the volcanic eruption in Qishan had left the countryside devastated, cities and sects in ruins, all across the continent. The Lan had been lucky to survive at all, and now they were lucky the powerful Jin had chosen to intercede in order to stop the attack on Cloud Recesses by the Burial Mounds. Lan Wangji said, "I agreed to this, Brother." He didn't add, "It will be fine," because it wouldn't. It would be what it was.

Excerpt 2: Fortunately, Wei Wuxian had an affinity for Yin Iron that came from spending a lot of time dead with it.
