You tapped your fingers impatiently against your desk, willing Spotify to reload quicker, visualising the album you knew was dropping in two minutes. Finally, after 120 seconds that could have been an hour, Julie and the Phantom’s new album was out and available, and you actually might’ve been the first person to listen to it.
You’d been following Julie and the Phantoms since their very first performance was put on YouTube. Admittedly you’d been hopping on the bandwagon — your friends had been raving about it at school and force-fed you their songs, but you’d been genuinely addicted to their music ever since.
Pressing play on the new album you got up, leaving it to play as you began on your errands for the day. You danced around your apartment, putting away the washing and vacuuming and humming along to the singles that had already been released.
Luke was on his way home from his morning run when he could have sworn he could hear his own voice. Stopping, he pulled an earbud out of his ear, looking around for the source of the music. And there, on the third floor, was you. You were out on the balcony, organising the cute set of outdoor furniture you’d shoved in there and dancing ridiculously to Luke’s personal favourite song of the album. He let out a quiet laugh to himself, admiring the carefree way you jumped around, miming the chorus you’d learnt into a can of what appeared to be bug spray. He smiled once more before heading into the building, musing about the odds of having a Phantoms fan live on his floor.
Back up in his apartment he could still hear the music, both your open windows making it sound clear despite not being obnoxiously loud. Luke just shook his head, heading straight to the shower and turning on his own music so he didn’t have to be victim to his own voice all day.
An hour later, you were still listening. You’d just finished the album and evidently wanted to commit it to memory before the day was through. Luke thought it was adorable, and he could feel the gratitude flowing through every inch of him. This was why he wrote music, to resonate with people and make them happy. Plus, now that he knew the cute girl who’d just moved into the apartment opposite him liked his band, he figured he could build up some confidence to talk to you.
Morning turned to afternoon, and you were still playing his album. Luke was flattered, but in slight disbelief. He couldn’t believe you weren’t sick of it yet, though he supposed you didn’t get the same ick he did when listening to his voice. Hearing you learning the words was another bonus, your voice floating in through his kitchen window as he cooked. He thought it was lovely, though far from professional. It was an unreal experience hearing your disembodied voice stumbling through the lyrics, making up ones you’d evidently misheard and improvising your own riffs on top of Julie’s.
Luke wondered whether it was possible to develop a crush on someone based on just their voice. Yeah he thought you were cute the few times he’d seen you coming or going through his street facing window, but your laughter when your voice cracked had him weak in the knees.
When you were still playing his music by four o’clock — you’d branched out to mixing in the rest of their discography by then — he was a little worried for your sanity. Flattered and grateful for the streams, but concerned all the same. At the same time he was worried for himself. He’d offered to host his band and friends for a private celebration of the album release after the official party the night previous, and he thought it may be a little on the nose if you were still streaming their music into the night. He could already hear Alex making fun of him for living next to a fangirl (he did secretly hope you were a fangirl of him though).
So, whilst it wasn’t exactly the meet-cute he’d hoped for, Luke found himself knocking on your door. He knocked again shyly when he heard you turn down the volume, clearly trying to see if you’d heard right. A few soft footsteps on the other side of the door and it was cracking open, your curious expression greeting him. You’d only just moved in and didn’t know anyone to be visiting.
Luke watched you go through the seven stages of grief in real time. Confusion at an unexpected visitor, recognition of him, and then a million shades of humiliation as you realised you’d been listening to his music all day and he could hear. God, you probably looked like an obsessed fangirl (you were, but you didn’t want Luke Patterson to know that). With an embarrassed sound coming from the back of your throat, you asked Luke to give you twenty seconds of privacy. He agreed politely and you shut the door quickly. Slapping a hand to your mouth, you let out a silent scream, trying to let out all your anxious, embarrassed energy as quickly as possible, shaking your limbs about so you could stand still when you inevitably had to grovel for forgiveness to Luke.
Reopening your door, you were taken aback by how at ease Luke looked. And how much hotter he was in person, but you tried to push that thought to the back of your head for the sake of coherent conversation.
“Hi,” You said, resisting the urge to ramble out apologies.
“Hi,” He replied with that stupidly charming grin he wore in all his publicity shoots. “I’m Luke.”
“I know.” Fuck, you didn’t mean to say that. “Um, obviously. I’m sure you’ve heard all the…” You gestured inside to your apartment where his album was still playing quietly. You should’ve turned it off.
“Please don’t be embarrassed, it’s really cute.” Now your blush was for a totally different reason, your favourite singer was calling you cute? You had to be dreaming.
“Is there something I can do for you?” You asked, still unsure of the purpose of the visit, though you weren’t complaining.
“Oh!” Luke looked as if he really had forgotten why he’d come, but covered himself with an easy laugh, “I was just wondering if you could turn down your music a bit? It’s not too loud or anything, it’s not bothering me! It’s just, I’m having the band over tonight and as much as we’re all proud of the album, it feels a bit conceited to have it playing as we hang out privately, y’know?” You were nodding vigorously before he could finish his sentence, spilling out apologies for even playing it in the first place.
“Seriously don’t apologise,” He assured you, catching your eye in a way that made you feel like you couldn’t look away (not that you would’ve wanted to), “I really appreciate you being a fan and supporting us.” In that moment, entranced in his deep honey eyes, you honestly would have done whatever Luke Patterson asked of you, you were completely his. Maybe your parasocial relationships needed some examining.
Forcing yourself to end the moment despite your internal desires, you averted your eyes to the floor and Luke coughed slightly, both of you somewhat dazed.
“Right, well, it was really nice meeting you. Big fan. Guess I’ll see you around?” You said awkwardly, stepping back inside the threshold of your flat. Luke nodded in the same manner, and you were about to shut the door when he called for you to wait.
“Do you wanna come over later? You can meet the band, and it’s always helpful to make some friends in the building. I, uh, know you’re new here.” You nodded, more than surprised, but you sure as hell weren’t gonna turn down this opportunity.
“Yeah, that sounds nice. Thanks.” Luke named a time and you parted ways, neither of you catching the backwards glances you both chanced.
Inside your apartment was a whirlwind of stress. What did you wear for a dinner with your favourite band with an hour’s notice? You might’ve actually tried on half your wardrobe before deciding on your favourite jeans (maybe the ones that made your ass look impeccable, but who’s to say?) and a simple top. It wasn’t the most exciting outfit you could have come up with, not by a long shot, but you didn’t want to make a single wrong decision tonight. All you needed to do was be completely perfect and impress Julie and the Phantoms and maybe get Luke to like you back. Easy stuff.
By the time you were meant to be going you’d managed to do your makeup in a way that didn’t make you want to cry — why did it always turn out awful when you needed it to be good? Slipping your favourite hoops into your ears you were ready, and gave yourself a quick pep talk in the bathroom mirror. You’d never been one for those self-love affirmations, but they couldn’t hurt, right?
When Luke opened the door and his face broke into one of those smiles that lit up the building’s corridor, your nerves quieted themselves somewhat. He swept you under one of his arms leading you further into the apartment as if you’d been friends for years. You tried to take in what you could, and were a little jealous of how nicely his place was decorated — yours was still loaded with boxes and junk.
“Guys, meet my new friend!” Luke announced, and all the heads in the room snapped towards you.
“Um, hi,” You said meekly, remembering to tell them all your name.
“She’s new to the building and I thought it would be nice for her to make some friends!” You smiled internally — Luke had the same personality as in all the interviews you watched, which made you glad. You didn’t know what you would do if he wasn’t all that you imagined.
The night started out a little awkward, at least for you. You were so stressed about making a good impression that you felt a little robotic, answers calculated to try and get the most amount of laughs or agreements. Luke noticed this and gestured for you to take the seat between him and Julie when the meal was served, figuring you’d have the most in common with her, and he was more than happy to talk your ear off if the opportunity arose.
“So, why’d you come to California?” Julie asked, and you explained that you’d moved for school, but it was cheaper to rent the flat than live in the dorms. That in itself was an easy avenue into talking about your roommate who was never around and the classes you were taking this semester. When you asked about Nick, who was sitting on Julie’s other side, he happily joined the conversation to talk about how they got together just after the Phantoms began to get world famous and their (first) show at the Orpheum.
The dinner was loud and messy, and you began to feel right at home. With Reggie flicking beans at Alex, and Luke’s boisterous laughter ringing over conversation, there was a familial ambience to it all.
After the meal the group migrated towards the TV, and you found yourself next to Luke again, sandwiched between him and Willie, who introduced himself as Alex’s boyfriend. You recognised him from Alex’s Instagram, but you left that fact out. You found yourself making easy conversation with them, being the four who got Luke’s couch, whilst the others made themselves at home in armchairs and other seats scavenged from around the flat.
As you spoke to the couple about a restaurant in LA they were recommending, you felt a hand land on your thigh. A glance in his direction showed it was Luke’s, of course, but if his expression was anything to go by he was all but unaware, still speaking passionately to Nick about something. You tried to conceal your blush as your turned back to the gays, but the knowing looks had you hiding your face in your hands.
A movie was turned on and the chatter dulled somewhat, turned down to whispers over the dialogue. You didn’t know how you’d ended up cuddled up into Luke’s side, but you were absolutely not complaining. His arm on the back of the sofa had migrated to sitting around your waist at one point, and you were really hoping he couldn’t feel your racing heartbeat. An accidental glance in Julie’s direction showed her and Nick wiggling their eyebrows suggestively, to which you simply made a bewildered expression, hoping it conveyed how little idea you had of what was going on. Unbeknownst to you, Luke was fighting the same losing battle with the rest of the boys, who were making childish kissy faces when you weren’t looking. Luke handled it better than you, merely shrugging as if to say ‘she’s cute — what do you want me to do?’
A few hours later and the night was winding down. You took your leave after Reggie, not wanting to risk overstaying your welcome and jeopardising the friendships you hoped you were making. The remaining guests all gave you warm goodbyes, begging for you to come back again. Julie even swept you into a tight hug, making you promise you’d DM her to go out for coffee soon. Luke walked you to the door, a gentle hand on the small of your back not going unnoticed by his friends.
“Thanks for coming tonight, I’m really glad we met,” He said, and his shyer tone caught you off guard, but made you smile nonetheless.
“Thank you for inviting me,” You countered, “It was really sweet of you to introduce me to all your friends.” Luke waved it off like it was nothing, which you were sure to him it was.
“Can I see you again soon?” He asked, suddenly looking remarkably like a little puppy.
“I’m only a door away,” You grinned, “You can see me whenever you like. Hey, congrats again on the album. I’d say it’s pretty good.” When you pressed a kiss to his cheek and bade him goodnight, Luke couldn’t have resisted his cheesy grin if he’d tried.
“I love being a rockstar,” He said when he returned to his friends.
“Shut up, man,” Replied Alex, “You’re too whipped to claim any rockstar benefits on this one.”

She’s the person he always runs to for anything. so it doesn’t really come as a shock to anyone that she died alongside them. Reader also really hates shoes so it’s a huge shock to the boys when they find her hanging out around home in the one thing she really hates: shoes.

I stand off to the side of the stage by a table with my brother's and best friend’s towels in my hand. I wiggle my toes against the cold floor and smile at the soothing feeling. I hold my shoes with my socks stuffed in them and on my shoulder is my brother's fanny pack.

Just as we finish our conversation, the boys are finishing up and I smile as they all pat each other’s back. They stay on the stage, basking in the feeling, then they talk for a minute before coming down to where I’m standing.
“Hey, sweetheart. What'd you think? Wasn’t that awesome?!” Luke uses the nickname he’s always had for me, but I can’t help but wish it was in a different way.
In all his sweaty glory, he comes over to hug me from behind. I squeal before giggling, nodding as he lets go of the hug and grabs his towel from my shoulder.
“Yeah, hon, it was electric,” I agree with him as I use my pet name for him and smile when Alex puts his arm over my shoulder.
“I was on fire, sis!” he exclaims and I smile.
“Yes you were, Lex!” I concur with a nod before giving my brother a kiss on the cheek.
“Anyway sweetheart, we’re going to get street dogs to celebrate. You gonna come?” Luke asks as he now replaces Alex's arm with his.
“Yeah, I think I will,” I reply and Luke smiles before giving my cheek a kiss. I push back the thought that I wish that could be a kiss on the lips.
“Well if you’re coming, you should put your shoes back on,” Alex tells me as he bends down to pick up my shoes.
“Do I have too?!” I whine out like a five year old, making both Luke and Alex laugh.
“Yes, sweetheart. You have to. I promise you can take them off as soon as we get to the alley,” Luke tells me and I grin at him.
“Ok. I guess I can,” I reluctantly agree as Alex hands me my shoes, rolling his eyes before giving me the ‘we are so talking about this later’ look.
“I’ll put them back on here in a minute,” I assure them and they both nod before Alex grabs his fanny pack along with my water.
“Hey! Bobby, where are you going?!” Luke asks as we watch Bobby go up to the girl I talked to earlier.
“I’m good,” he replies, turning back to Luke for a moment with a shrug before he goes back to the girl with all of us now following.
“Vegetarian. I could never hurt an animal,” Bobby boasts as he tries to flirt with the poor girl.
We all come up next to him and Luke puts his other arm up onto Bobby’s shoulder. He holds my hand with his other hand, something we’ve just always done platonically. Reggie stands next to me with an arm on Alex’s shoulder as Alex is on the other side of him.
“You guys are really good,” the girl praises them and smiles at the boys.
“Thank you,” Luke sheepishly says with a big smile on his face.
“I see lots of bands. Been in a couple myself. I was really feeling it,” she emphasizes as she looks at us.
“That’s what we do this for. I’m Luke, by the way,” Luke continues to flirt with her and my stomach twists with jealousy.
But then Luke squeezes my hand and I smile at the fact that it’s for no reason but to let me know he loves me. We’ve always done that when one of us seems to be upset, just as a sign of ‘I’m here, you’re ok,’ to calm the other. It’s our way of saying we love one another without having to say it, always has been and always will be. Again, Alex gives me a look and I shrug, making him roll his eyes.
“Hi, I’m Reggie,” Reggie introduces himself in a flustered tone.
“Alex,” Alex chimes in, putting a hand up in a wave.
“Y/n.. nice to meet you,” I interject with a sweet smile as I lift my hand and give a small wave like my brother did.
“Bobby,” Bobby chirps as he pushes Luke behind him a bit.
“I’m Rose. Nice meeting you guys,” the girl says amusedly, and smiles a beautiful smile.
Luke then gives Bobby a wet willie and I giggle lightly when he does. I then hold a shoe out to Alex and he nods as he takes my left shoe to hold it for me. With my right shoe I take my sock out and Alex takes the right one as well.
Tumblr media
I bend down and Luke keeps a hold on my arm to balance me. I smile up at him in thanks, then finish putting my socks and shoes on.

“Oh, uh, here’s our demo. And a tee shirt, size beautiful,” Reggie croons, now flirting as well and I roll my eyes as I stand up right again.
“Thanks. I’ll be sure not to wipe down the tables with this one,” she jokes as she holds it up to herself before she throws it over her shoulder.
“Oh, good call! Whenever they get wet, they kinda just fall apart in your hands,” Alex informs her and I smirk at him as he bashfully looks away.
“Don’t you guys have to go get hot dogs?” Bobby asks as he tries to get us all to leave so he can be with Rose.
“Yeah. He had a hamburger for lunch,” Luke informs Rose as he pushes Bobby back so he can talk to Rose. He then pushes off the table with his hands and grabs my hand again before leaving.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Luke exclaims and Reggie giggles as we all walk out the back door of the Orpheum.
“The smell of sunset boulevard?” Alex asks and I snort as I start to giggle before groaning.
“The shoes?” Alex asks me and I nod.
“No. It’s what that girl said in there tonight,” Luke explains as he swings our hands back and forth and kicks the puddle that’s in front of us.
“About our music, right? It’s like an energy. It connects us with people,” he elaborates and I smile even though in my mind I’m only wanting to take my shoes off.
“I mean, he’s got a point Lex, that’s what connected me and Luke,” I agree and Luke smiles, pulling me in so I’m against his side with his arm around my shoulders.
“She’s not wrong, man, but they can feel us when we play. I want that connection with everybody,” Luke bursts happily and pulls the boys into our little huddle as well.
“Then we’re gonna need more t-shirts,” Reggie jokes as he holds up one of the sunset curve shirts I helped them make a couple weeks ago and the rest of us laugh.
“Let’s go,” Luke playfully orders and I giggle as Luke pulls me closer to leave a kiss to the side of my forehead.
“I love you,” I muse, making him smile.
“I love you too, precious,” he parrotes me, making me grin and nuzzle into his side.
Out of my peripheral I see Alex shake his head lightly and I only cuddle Luke closer. Alex lets out a huff and I shrug as Luke lets go of me.
“Let’s go boys,” Luke commands as pops his hood up over his head as we all head to the front of the Orpheum. “And best friend,” Luke adds, making me giggle.
We continue walking forward until we pass a group of girls who are all talking and not noticing anything at all.
“Ladies,” Reggie croons as he walks up to them and hands them the leftover shirts he has.
We stop and wait for him as he hands them the shirts before coming back to us. Then we all continue walking and the girls open the shirts only to let out a scream.
“Reggie, wait!” One of the girls yells out, making me giggle as Reggie smirks.
We walk for a while before coming up to the alley to get our hot dogs. We get our hot dogs from the cook before we each pile condiments onto them from the back of an Oldsmobile.
“Man…. I can’t wait until we eat someplace where the condiments aren’t served out of the back of an Oldsmobile,” Alex states as he turns to Luke and then walks off to the owner.
“I mean, I can’t say I don’t agree,” I tell Luke and he chuckles as he grabs my hand.
“Hey… sorry I got some pickle juice on your battery cables,” Alex informs the much older man and I hold back a giggle.
“No problem. It’ll help with the rust,” the older man jokes with a laugh.
“That can’t…. okay. What?” Alex asks in confusion, then just deciding to let it go as he walks away from the man. He shakes his head and I giggle when he comes back up next to me.
“Confused?” I ask him and he nods.
“Duh!” he tells me and I snort out a giggle.
We walk over to a couch with our food and sit down. Reggie sits farthest to the left and Luke sits next to him before pulling me down onto his lap and Alex shakes his head as he sits down next to Luke. I push my hot dog into Alex’s hand and he rolls his eyes.
“Uhh, ok sure. I’ll hold it for you, sis,” he sarcastically jokes and I giggle.
I reach down and quickly pull off one shoe along with its sock before ripping the other off. I lean back into Luke with a sigh and he chuckles as I take my hot dog back from Alex.
“This is awesome, you guys. We’re playing the Orpheum! I can’t even count how many bands have played here and ended up being huge,” Luke says excitedly as he keeps his arm around me while holding his hot dog with the other.
“We’re gonna be legends!” Luke exclaims with a smile.
“Yes, you guys will be. And I’ll be right beside you the whole time,” I agree and promise them with a big smile.
“Eat up, sweetheart. You too, boys. Cause after tonight, everything changes,” Luke informs us as he squeezes my hip while holding his hot dog in the air.
We all put our hotdogs together as if toasting to something, then each take a big bite.
“That’s a new flavor,” Alex mentions with a mouth full of hotdog while looking at us.
“Chill man, street dogs haven’t killed us yet,” Reggie jokes, making me giggle.
“I mean he’s got a point. We’ve been eating here for how long?” I ask with a shrug before we all continue to eat.
Little did we know, the hotdogs had bad chemicals in them, chemicals that aren't good to ingest at all.
Y/n’s Pov:{2020 after the Orpheum performance}
“Knock knock,” I speak as I stick my head through Julie's bedroom door.
“Ahh, if it isn’t my favorite ghost that actually has manners. You can come all the way in,” Julie jokes as she turns to look at me and I grin as I step all the way in.
“Hi, Julie. Yeah, the guys are not well mannered, that's something we can agree on,” I say with a laugh and she smiles, also laughing.
“Come to get away again?” she asks and I quickly turn away from her before starting to look around her room again.
“Yeah… he’s just…” I sigh and shake my head as I make my way to her closet.
“Infuriating?” she fills in for me and I bite my lip as I nod.
I start to look around her closet and find a shirt I really like. Smiling, I pull it off the hanger and turn to her as I hold it up.
“Can I try this on?” I ask her and she nods as she gets up and grabs a notebook off her chair.
“Sure. Just don’t do what your boyfriend apparently likes to do,” she tells me with a giggle as she sits back down and I pull it off the hanger.
“One, he’s not my boyfriend. Two, Alex tells that story too much. It was one time!” I quickly defend Luke as I walk over to the mirror to slip it on over my shirt and Julie shakes her head.
“Whatever, just make sure it stays the way it is and comes back to me,” she jokes and I roll my eyes in the mirror at her.
“Yeah, yeah. One time. One time Luke steals a shirt and cuts it up, then we both become shirt villains,” I joke as I turn to look at her.
“Well? Does it look good on me?” I ask her as I hold my arms out and spin a little.
“Yeah. It does. Go ahead and borrow it whenever you want to,” she tells me when she looks up at me from writing and I grin at her.
“Thank you, Jules,” I tell her and she smiles sweetly back at me.
“Of course. That’s what girlfriends are for,” Julie says as she continues to write in her book.
“I’ve never really had girl friends. I’ve only ever had the boys…” I tell her, my voice thick with emotion and she gets up from the bed.
“Well, you have me and Flynn now,” she tells me as she comes up beside me.
“Wanna try on anything else?” she asks and I shrug, making her smile.
“Really y/n, it’s ok. Try whatever you like,” she reiterates to me and I grin, making her smile as she goes and sits back on her bed.
I excitedly walk over to her closet and look through it. I look at her shirts for a few minutes, but nothing jumps out at me. I sigh and let my head fall with my eyes falling closed, making Julie chuckle.
“Nothing speaks to ya, huh?” she asks and I huff, opening my eyes.
My eyes light up as I see something and Julie seems to notice as she once again gets up to come over to me. I bend down and pick them up with a smile on my face. Julie watches me carefully as I straighten up and look at her.
“Do you have socks by chance? I don’t know if mine would even be in the bags in the garage or not. I never really kept any around,” I say excitedly and she smiles, walking over to her dresser.
“Sure, what kind do you normally like?” she asks as she opens the drawer.
“Umm, you got any knee high?” I ask and she gives me a devilish smile.
“Oh, I’ve got many…” she tells me as she begins to pull a bunch out:

Julie lays out pair after pair and I marvel at all her choices of knee high socks. I find it hard to pick my favorite pair and Julie chuckles.
“Pick two or three favorites and you can keep them along with the shoes,” Julie tells me and my head snaps up to look at her.
“Really? I can keep the shoes and two pairs of socks?” I ask and she nods, smiling.
“The shoes aren’t really my favorite anymore, so yeah. Keep ‘em. I also don’t really wear the knee highs anymore,” she says with a laugh as she motions to all the socks she has.
“Thank you, Jules,” I tell her and she smiles, nodding at me.
“There’s so many new patterns from when I was younger. How will I ever pick?” I ask and she chuckles as she lifts a pair off the bed.
“I think you’d like these maroon ones or maybe the navy blue, but if you're ever looking to impress a certain someone, then I’d take one of the music notes,” she tells me as she lifts each one to show me.
“I’ll take the maroon and the yellow and black ones, those ones kinda remind me of when Luke used to call me bee…” I fondly tell her as I pick up the socks before looking up at her to see she has an amused look on her face.
“What?” I ask and she giggles.
“He used to call you, bee? Really?” she asks and I blush lightly.
“It was because bumblebee was my favorite transformer. He used it when we were like 8!” I exclaim when she raises an eyebrow at me.
“Ok. No, that's actually a very cute reason…” she admits as she crosses her arms and I smile.
“Isn’t it, though? If Lex were here he’d totally be gagging and rolling his eyes,” I tell her and she chuckles.
“I could totally see that. Alex seems very protective over you,” she agrees with me and I roll my eyes.
“You have no idea,” I joke and she laughs again.
“You can come take my socks whenever. Like I said, I don’t wear them very often. But keep those ones, they’re yours now,” she tells me with a grin and I grin back.
“Really, thank you,” I tell her again and she shrugs.
“Hey. It’s nothing. I know you hate shoes, so if you like those and I mean really like them, go right ahead and keep ‘em,” she tells me with a smile and I jump up, grabbing the shoes and socks.
“I’ll see you later. Thank you for my new shoes and socks. You think Luke will like ‘em? They match his…” I say in a bashful tone and Julie smirks.
“I’m sure he’ll love them. Heck, he’ll probably just like seeing you excited about shoes for once,” Julie jokes with another shrug and I giggle.
“You're right. I’ll see you later?” I ask her and she nods, grinning.
“Got a gig with the boys tonight so I’m sure I’ll see you there. You never pass our gigs up,” she tells me as she starts picking up the other socks.
“That’s ‘cause I’m the cheerleader. I cheer everyone on, especially now that I’m more of a background manager now that Flynn’s the real manager,” I admit and she shakes her head.
“You’re part of the team too, even if you do more background stuff. Plus, I think of you more as our stylist than a cheerleader. Those shirts you used to make were awesome. Not to mention how you dressed the guys and me for the last gig,” she raves and I blush at all the praise.
“Oh… that was nothing, really,” I wave her compliment off and she shakes her head.
“Y/n, take the compliment. You're awesome at style,” she demands and I slowly smile while nodding.
“Ok… ok. Thank you,” I tell her shyly and she laughs.
“Now go try your new shoes out,” she jokes with me, rolling her eyes with a smile and I grin.
“Ok. See you later!” I wave at her and she waves back.
I quickly walk out of her room—when she opened the door I have no clue, probably when my head was buried in the closet—and I decide to just apparate to the garage. My feet lightly land on the garage floor and I quickly rush over to the couch.
I put the bumblebee striped socks on, then the shoes and smile when I finish tying them. I stand up and grin as I dance around a little bit. Soon I get bored waiting for the guys so I decide to figure out the guy’s clothes for the gig tonight.
I go up into the loft where all of our clothes are and look through Alex’s first. I find him a real nice light pink shirt, knowing he’d want his pink. I then look through his pants and find him one of his many pairs of black sweats.
I then go over to his new collection of fanny packs and find him a nice jean jacket style one. I lay that all out and look over it. I then grab one of his many snapback hats and add it in.
The blue of the snapback pairs perfectly with the fanny pack and I decide to let him pick shoes, making me smile as I’m satisfied with the outfit. I then move on to Luke’s outfit, starting with his favorite skull shirt and lay it out. I start to riffle through his pants when I hear the boys land downstairs from apparating.
“Sweetheart, where are you?” I hear Luke shout out and I smile.
“In the loft, Lukey!” I shout back and smile when I find the right pants.
“There you are. Come down and cuddle?” he asks me and I shake my head, smiling more.
“Sorry, Lukey boy. Can’t. I’ve still got yours, Reggie’s, and Julie's outfits to do before tonight,” I sadly tell him and he frowns.
“But… if you help me, maybe I can get them done faster,” I appeal to him and he takes a moment to think it over before his frown slowly turns to a smile.
“Deal,” he tells me and I smile softly at him as he comes closer.
“Ok. Do you want to finish your outfit then while I start on Regsters?” I ask and he laughs.
“What?” I ask him and he chuckles.
“You haven’t called Reggie Regsters since we were like ten,” he tells me with a smirk and I shrug.
“I guess I’m just feeling very nostalgic today,” I comment as I continue to put Reggie’s outfit together.
“Ok. I’m done with Reginald’s. Are you done with yours?” I ask as I turn around to look at him and again he has a smirk on.
“What is with you today? Old nicknames and full names?” he asks and I giggle as I look over what he’s added to his outfit.
“I really don’t know. I was hanging out with Jules today and for some reason it’s put me in a very weird happy and nostalgic mood,” I explain as I give his outfit a few minor changes.
When I finish his outfit I fully stand up and when I do, I hear him let out a gasp. I look at him and realize he’s looking down at my feet.

I grin as I stand on my heels, letting my toes angle out before bringing them back in.
“Oh! Jules gave me ‘em. Aren’t they rockin’?” I ask and he gives me a sideways look.
“Sweetheart, don’t get me wrong, they are rockin’, but why are you wearing them? You hate shoes…” he asks me and I feel a blush creep up my neck.
“I really liked them and Julie told me I could have them, so I took them. Do you not like them? They match yours…” I tell him as I bite my lip as I look down at them.
“No. I love them. It’s just… I’m not used to seeing you wear shoes, sweetie,” he explains as he comes over to me.
“Oh…ok. I liked em ‘cause they matched yours. Not to mention they’re  too,” I meekly point out and I hear him chuckle.
“Is that all we had to do all these years to get you to wear shoes? Just find you a pair that matched mine?” he asks, making me look up at him and my breath gets caught in my throat with how close he is.
If I moved just a little bit more, my lips could touch his. Oh how badly I want to just surge forward and close the small distance, but I don’t. I look down at his lips before quickly looking back up at his eyes in hopes he didn’t catch it. To my relief, it seems like he didn’t.
“If that’s the case, we shoulda done that years ago,” he jokes and I just watch him as he keeps a smile on his face.
“Hey. What’s wrong?” he asks me, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Oh… nothing, I promise. Just… stuck in thought I guess,” I tell him with a shrug before going around him to try and go down the ladder.
“Hey. No. I know something is up, y/n. Come on, you can tell me,” he prompts me as he grabs my hand and pulls me back to him.
“Really. It’s nothing. I’m fine…” I try to lie the best I can, knowing he’ll read me like an open book.
“No. You’re not leaving till you tell me what’s wrong…” he informs as he again pulls me back, but this time he pulls me into a hug and holds me there.
“Lukey… come on. Let me go. I can’t talk to you about it, ok…?” I plead with him and he gives me a confused look.
“What can’t you tell me? You tell me everything, sweetheart. It’s ok. You can tell me,” he promises and I sigh, realizing he won’t be letting this go.
“I can’t tell you because it’s about you. You’ll stop talking to me and I don’t want that,” I admit in a fast jumble of words.
“What do you mean it’s about me? Did I do something to make you upset with me? I’m sorry if I did,” he quickly apologizes and I shake my head.
“Goodness no, Luke… I… uh… like someone…” I tell him as I bite my lip and his face falls.
“Oh. So you’re…” he trails off and I nod.
“Yeah. I’m in love with you…” I admit sheepishly and his eyes widen.
“Wait, what?!” he asks and I give a nervous giggle.
“What did you think I meant?” I ask him and he chuckles.
“I thought you were trying to tell me you were going to go out with another guy. Ya know, dial everything back…” he explains with a slow smile making way to his face.
“Oh… well, no…” I again nervously trail off and he chuckles again.
“Sweetheart, look at me please…” he asks me and I do, only to see him smiling.
“Wha-” I start off, but he cuts me off as he slams his lips to mine and I freeze.
The kiss lasts for a few minutes and it's exactly how I always dreamed of it. At first, Luke kisses me and I can’t move out of shock, but once I’ve snapped out of it I kiss him back. Our lips move in sync and it’s so full of love.
It’s nice and slow as Luke keeps his hands on my cheeks. My arms slowly wrap around his neck and I play with the hair at the nip of his neck. All too soon though, we are both pulling away for air.
He lays his forehead against mine as he now wraps his arms around my waist and mine stay around his neck. He gives me one last peck before he’s smiling, making me smile too.
“I’ve wanted to do that since fourth grade…” he whispers out as he nudges my nose with his.
“Well… why didn’t you?” I ask him with a giggle when his face scrunches up.
“Why didn’t you kiss me?” he sassily asks and I giggle again.
“Because I didn’t know how you felt. I didn’t want to risk losing you,” I admit and he chuckles, shaking his head.
“I had the same reasoning,” he admits and I grin before we both start laughing.
“Wait, so we’ve both been oblivious idiots this whole time?” I ask and he nods while still laughing.
“I could have told you that! As a matter of fact, I did!” Alex shouts from downstairs, making me and Luke laugh harder.
“Well, that’s definitely one way to do it,” I giggle out and Luke shrugs.
“I guess so, bee…” he says with a grin on his face and I immediately look down at my socks.
“You figured it out!” I excitedly exclaim and he nods, smiling.
“That I did. How could I forget about bee? Now if we had known that all we had to was get bumblebee striped socks and shoes that matched mine, maybe we would’ve had you in shows years ago,” Luke jokes with an eye roll and I scoff.
“Oh, shut up. At least now I’m just like you,” I tell him with a grin and he smiles more, if that’s even possible.
“Yes, you are and I love it,” he tells me with a smile before pulling me back to him by the waist.
“Can I kiss you again?” he asks and I giggle.
“Well you didn’t even ask the first time around, but you're lucky I love you or else it’d be a no,” I joke before realizing what I had actually said and I pause, waiting for his response.
“I love you too, sweetheart,” he replies with a big cheeky smile and I can’t help but smile with him.
“I’m going to kiss you now,” he jokingly tells me and I smile, nodding.
He leans forward and kisses me again. This time feels just like the first, so full of love and care. I smile into the kiss as does he before again we’re pulling away.
“You gonna come give me those cuddles now?” he asks and I laugh before playfully sighing.
“I guess we can go cuddle now…” I reply playfully and he grins.
“Ok. Come on,” he tells me and before I know it, I’m being pulled towards the ladder.
We make it down to the bottom and he pulls me over to his couch before he’s plopping down onto it. He looks up at me before holding his arms out and doing grabby hands like a five year old would. I laugh as I sit down on the couch.
He wraps his arms around me and I cuddle into his chest. I sigh when all he brings is a protective warmth over me. Soon before I know it, my eyes slowly drop and I’m off into dreamland, sleeping peacefully in my best friend's arms (well, boyfriend now, I guess). Only the peaceful sleep doesn’t last very long because soon I’m jumping awake.
“Are you wearing shoes?!” Alex shouts as I sleepily look up at him.
“Yes, I am. Now go away, I’m going back to sleep,” I grumble as I cuddle back into Luke, who lets out a small breathy laugh and that’s the last thing I hear before falling back into a deep, peaceful sleep.
The End…

Thank you, Jerry~ Part 5
Luke Patterson x Alive!Reader Series
Tumblr media
Summary: After getting an afternoon free from the band, Luke decides to see his parents, only to find out something he wasn’t expecting.
A/N: Alright, I’m tired of editing this part and changing how this was going to go, so I’m gonna bite the bullet and post it. Enjoy. Hopefully it won’t have too many more parts to it, so it won’t take me forever, but please, for the love of my sanity, don’t just demand part 6 now. Tell me what you like. Please?

Part 5: Is this an interrogation?
---
Luke was most assuredly not fine.
At first, the rest of his bandmates wanted to ignore him being late to rehearsal, or how he always seems to have somewhere to be that isn’t with the rest of them, or how something has made him bury his nose and scribble in his song book more often than his friends have ever seen, alive or dead. Between Julie, Reggie, and Alex, none of them could figure out what was wrong with their friend.
“Do you think he got himself roped into something like the club again?” Julie asks as the three of them await Luke’s return and sit around the couch in the studio, Alex’s drumming on the coffee table in front of him kept the room from being silent in between the ideas being thrown around.
“He wouldn’t do that.” Reggie tells her and she nods, knowing how absurd the idea was in the first place. “Do you think he’s in another band?”
“He wouldn’t do that.” Alex says and Reggie lets out a deep breath of relief. Getting nowhere with figuring out what was up with his best friend, Alex lets his mind wander. Not so surprisingly, his mind wanders to Willie and he smiles unconsciously for a moment before a thought strikes him and his drumsticks slowly come to a stop. “Do you think he met someone?”
For the first time all afternoon, no one denies that idea could happen.
“What are you all sitting around for?” The three of them scramble off the couch at the sudden voice in the studio and relief floods through them all when they realize it was only Flynn and not Luke.
“We think Luke met someone.” Reggie tells her as Flynn plops next to her best friend on the couch, her mouth immediately falling open in shock.
“Like another ghost?”
Julie, Reggie, and Alex all look between each other and shrug. “We don’t know.” Alex tells her.
“Wow.” Flynn lets out a long breath. “Well, good for him.”
“Yeah.” Julie agrees, throwing her arm around her best friend. “Good for him.” Alex and Reggie nod and yet something deep in Julie’s gut tells her there might be something more to the situation. Something she can’t see just yet, or can’t make sense of, but something was going on more than Luke just causally meeting someone.
And Julie was determined to figure out exactly what was going on with Luke.
---
“Um, 536?” You tap your pen against your lip before sighing and falling back on your bed.
Wrong. You can almost imagine Jerry saying as the index card having been floating in the air in front of you slowly drops to the bed and out of the corner of your eyes, you can barely read the number 579 scribbled down in just barely legible chicken scratch.
“It’s your fault.” You grumble, shoving a pillow in your face until you hear the sound of a whiteboard pen squeaking against a little whiteboard, your newest gift to Jerry. You smile to yourself before taking a glance, only to see the word ‘how’ scribbled on it. “Well, I could barely read it!” You defend yourself but you know the excuse was weak, you were just priding Jerry this morning on how better his writing has been since the two of you had been talking. The whiteboard slaps against your arm gently as you let out a small laugh, rubbing the spot before continuing to lay down. “Let’s take a break for a bit.” You tell Jerry and immediately see the cards you’ve been using to study for the last hour tossed onto your desk and your pillows next to you shift a bit, letting you know Jerry was laying down next to you.
Luke didn’t think hard about offering to help you when he popped into your room earlier and saw you studying for your math test the next day. Your brows were scrunched and your pen had bite marks from how hard you were chewing in concentration. It was one of those moments where Luke wished he had a phone to take a picture. It was also followed by a quick smile when he flicked your lamp on a few times to get your attention. That’s what led him here, laying on his side on your bed and staring at the side of your face as he hugs your pillow tightly. You were looking up at the ceiling instead of him, but in your defense, last time you both laid on your bed like this, you tried looking at him and both of you found it too weird. You would focus on something behind him and Luke would have to scooch down in his position just so his eyes would meet yours. This, staring at the ceiling, was more preferable.
“So, how was your day?” You ask Jerry, knowing you were just with him this morning.
Luke chuckles to himself before grabbing the whiteboard and scribbling down a quick ‘good :) how was yours?’.
You sigh and shrug. “It was fine.” You say but Luke knows you well enough to know there was more to the story.
‘Still not a lot from Kendall?’ He scribbles, having to write your old friend’s name more than once as he sees you struggle to understand what he wrote. When you do understand you let out a dry chuckle before shaking your head. Luke feels awful for you, he’s seen you try and text her over the last few weeks, but you never said anything about her responding more than a text or two every once in a while. Mentally slapping himself, he wants to cheer up a little. ‘How about your new friends?’
Reading Jerry’s new question, you don’t hold back the smile on your face, something Luke loves to see. “They are amazing.” You tell him, hugging a pillow close to your chest. “I loved my old friends, but Flynn, Julie, and her band just make me feel-” you cut yourself off, unsure what you’re going to say but knowing nothing you could say could make Jerry fully understand how much you love them.
Luke can’t help himself as he scribbles a quick, “And your crush?” He knows he shouldn’t ask, especially since he is more than certain you were talking about him, despite you never actually saying his name during the talks.
Your eyes tight and look away for a moment, not wanting Jerry to see the no doubt embarrassed look on your face thinking about Luke. “Yeah, he’s pretty good too.” You finally say before looking back up at the ceiling, unaware of the beaming smile and small blush creeping up Luke’s cheeks. You’re quiet for a moment before laughing to yourself. “And there’s you.” You roll your eyes at yourself and Luke finds himself completely red in just a few moments at the prospect of what you are going to say. “You know you’re my best friend, right?” You’ve said it to Julie and Flynn on your first girls’ day a few weeks ago, but you weren’t sure if you ever told Jerry.
Not seeing Jerry pick up the whiteboard, your heart quickens. “Obviously, you don’t have to say that back, especially since I know you have other best friends, like the ones you died with- I just wanted to say that, you know, b-because you’re like my best fri- best ghost friend-”
You were rambling and Luke wasn’t a genius but he didn’t need to be one to know that you would probably keep going unless he stopped you. You keep talking as he quickly scribbles on the whiteboard, holding it in front of your face in order for you to see it.
“You’re one of my bestest friends.”
Your whole body relaxes into the bed as you read his words and you can’t help yourself as you whisper, “That’s not a really word, but I’ll take it.”
Luke rolls his eyes and uses the pillow he’s leaning on to gently hit your face. He rolls off the bed to the sound of your loud laughs, accidently hitting the desk chair next to him.
“Grab the cards while you’re up.” You point to the pile and groan as you sit up ready to start another round of studying with Jerry.
---
Luke arrives back in the studio later that night. His goofy smile at spending the afternoon with you was barely hidden before he hears his name called, his friends all gathered around the piano without him. He doesn’t think anything about it at first as he jumps on over, tossing his arms around Alex and Reggie once he’s there. “What’s going on?” He asks, unable to stop his smile from making another appearance.
The rest of the band stays quiet, looking about each other before Alex clears his throat. “Why don’t you tell us?”
Luke’s smile slowly leaves as he furrows his brows. “Is something… wrong?” He looks to Reggie but the boy can’t make eye contact, then he looks to Julie, who’s eyes are wide and also locked onto the piano in front of her. “Julie?”
She finally looks up at him and takes a shaky breath. “We just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“Okay?” Luke’s arms fall from his best friends as he takes a step back. “Is this an interrogation or something?” He jokes, hoping his friends will stop acting weird.
“What is going on with you?” Reggie speaks, keeping his head low and playing with his fingers. “These last few months, I mean, it’s like you’re not even here, and when you are, it’s like you’re not even yourself.” He finally meets Luke’s eyes. “You’ve missed rehearsals, dude. Rehearsals. You didn’t even miss those when we were still kicking!”
As his stomach twists with worry, he shrugs. “So?”
It was Alex’s turn. “You’ve been keeping secrets from us, bailing when we have plans, a-and writing love songs?” He pulls out Luke’s song book that Luke didn’t even know he left laying about.
“You went through my songbook?”
Alex shakes his head, hoping his best friend would know he’d violate that rule. “I didn’t! You just- you left it open on the table the other day and this song was on top of the pile and it’s a love song.” Alex hands the book back to Luke who takes it quickly, tucking the page back into the book. Alex rocks on his heels, unsure what the three of them should say next to Luke, possibly an apology, but Alex can’t help himself but ask, “Sunflowers?”
Luke closes his eyes tight, wishing he hadn’t left his book on the table so carelessly when he went to visit you the other night before you went to sleep. He was about to defend himself before he sees Julie’s head snap to Alex’s.
“Wait, what did you say?” She asks and for a moment, Luke gets worried. She wouldn’t make the connection between sunflowers and you… would she?
Alex furrows his brows. “Sunflowers? It’s the name of his song.” He looks from the girl to Luke before taking a step forward. “Which by the way rocks, and if it wasn’t totally a secret love song, I’d totally suggest we preform it.”
Luke only nods his head gently at Alex’s words as he focuses on Julie, whose eyes were darting back and forth in front of her before finally settling on Luke.
“Is this about Y/N?”
“What?!” Alex and Reggie gasp at the same time, their jaws practically hitting the floor at the question.
Julie doesn’t acknowledge their shock as she puts together the pieces of Luke’s mystery. “This all started when she moved here, when she moved into your house!” She was starting to get excited, her voice rising as she claps her hands together. “When she moved into your house, with a ghost in it!” At that last realization, her stomach falls and she meets Luke’s eyes, brown, depressed, and boring into her own. “Oh, Luke,” her voice was soft now, “please tell me you didn’t.”
Luke remains silent.
“You’re Jerry?” Luke doesn’t know what else to say as he grips his book tight, seeing the page titled ‘Sunflowers’ sticking out, a small flower scribbled on the top, crumpled corner.
He can barely nod before his friends watch him disappear.
---
The next day after your math test leads to you skipping the rest of the day, opting for a walk along the beach instead. One thing about moving to LA is definitely the ocean air to cheer you up. You’ve been wandering for almost a half an hour, wiping under your eyes and trying your best not to sniffle.
You considered heading back to your house and enjoying the time without your dad home or even heading back to school for the final classes, but before you could make your decision, you see Luke, sitting on the edge of the boardwalk and kicking his legs out in the air with a frown on his face.
Seeing him here made you feel a little better, even if it was just for a moment. Hyping up your courage, you make your way over to him and take a seat next to him. “Hey, you.”
Luke looks up instinctively when he hears someone talk but he almost goes straight back to his previous position before he sees you staring directly at him as you sit down. He didn’t even realize he was visible at the moment; he was too far focused on his thoughts. “Hey,” he says finally, scooching over so you had more room next to him. The two of you are quiet for a moment before Luke turns and looks at you, his already sad expression becomes worse. “Are you crying?”
You let out a huff, forcing a smile to your face and quickly wipe your cheeks. “No, I was just uh,” You don’t know how you were going to finish the sentence as you meet Luke’s eyes. “It’s stupid.” You tell him but he offers you his ear to listen. “I just failed my math test.” You shrug, watching your feet as you kick out in front of you.
Luke feels awful. He knew last night how worried you were about this exam and a large part of him regrets distracting you as much as he had, especially when he convinced you to take music break and sing to all your favorite songs, which accidentally lasted an hour long since you wanted to play some songs and bands that Luke knew as well.
“Sorry that happened.” He says and you can’t help but smile at him, feeling a little better.
“It’s okay.” You whisper. “There’s always another test.” You lean back on your hands and look at Luke, watching his smile grow a little when he meets your gaze. “What about you? You alright? Kinda look like you’ve been crying too.”
Luke has to laugh at that. He hasn’t been crying, or at least that’s what he has told himself, but since he left Julie’s place and all of his friends last night, he’s been bouncing between places to be alone, wondering what on earth he was going to do about this whole situation. “I’m okay.” He lies and your eyes narrow, knowing he’s not saying the truth.
“You know, I’m really good at keeping secrets.” Luke’s shoulders relax as he leans back on his hands too. One corner of his lips quirks up when his shoulder brushes with yours.
No matter how many times Luke and you have talked since that first night you stayed at Julie’s, there was always a moment, that first moment after talking to you so long as Jerry where he touches you and it feels like he has come alive again. Where he’s just him, and you’re just you, and he can touch you, he can feel you, and he loves it. You and him, it’s just feels natural, no matter who he is in your life.
Luke sighs, pleading with himself to look away from you, but he couldn’t do it. “What would you do if you found out someone was lying to you?”
His question causes you to inhale sharply. Your next laugh comes out short. “Um, I guess it depends on who it is, you know?” You weren’t really sure what Luke was asking.
“What if it was your best friend?” Luke plays with fingers, unsure himself where he was going with his questions.
You’re quiet a bit too long for his liking, but in truth, you’ve been worried about the prospect of Jerry lying to you for far too long. You’d like to think at this point you knew Jerry, but of course, since you’re unable to actually see him or talk to him, you’ve never truly known if it was the truth. Before you could answer, Luke shakes his head. “Sorry,” he begins, “You don’t have to answer that. “
Luke wasn’t sure if he wanted the truth or not. He knows what he’s doing as Jerry and yet, stopping those visits with you was so far from what he wanted to do, he just wasn’t sure if he could tell you… everything.
“Happy talk?” You ask Luke and he is quick to nod and the two of you shift in your seats to look at each other, glad to move on from the sad talks. “So, tell me about Sweden.”
Suddenly this happy talk wasn’t as easy as Luke thought it would be. “Sweden? You, uh, you don’t really wanna know about Sweden, right?”
“Come on!” You nudge his leg with yours, keeping your leg pressed against his when you were done. “I wanna know about where you’re from.”
Luke takes a deep breath and tries to figure out how to get out of this situation. “Well, I didn’t live there long.” He lies and immediately his stomach starts to turn. “It’s um, it’s very big.”
You wait for him to say more but he just nods his head and you raise your brows. “It’s big?” Luke nods. “Okay, um, is that all?”
Luke was beginning to think that he should’ve learned more about Sweden when Julie told everyone they were from Sweden, especially since you were bound to have asked him about it at some point, he knew you well enough that he should’ve assumed that. Instead, he could only sit there and say, “yep.”
Luke was being weird, he’s been like this before when you’ve mentioned Sweden, so figuring he’s just homesick or something, you drop the question. “Dogs or cats?”
Luke’s brow arch and he stares at you through his lashes, as if your simple question was a trick and he was supposed to figure the right answer. “What?”
You smirk, leaning forward and inadvertently getting closer to him. “Dogs or cats, it’s an easy question.
Luke leans forward as well, his eyes narrowing and he’s quiet for a moment before quickly saying, “Dogs.”
“Really?” you ask him, a little surprised by his response. Luke chuckles softly at your expression.
“Yes, really, why? What’s yours?”
“Both.”
“Both?”
“Yup.”
“I didn’t know we could say both! I thought that was against the rules.”
You click your tongue. “I make the rules, so I say both.”
“Fine, I say both too.”
“Fine with me.” It was clear, after a single conversation were neither felt upset or like you were lying, that your spirits had lifted. Just like the first night you had met Luke, the conversation only flowed from there. You talked about anything and everything you could think of. Luke had to admit that he heard quite a few of the stories for the second time since some were stories you told Jerry, but he didn’t care. He’d listen to the stories a thousand times if it meant he could see you smile and laugh your way through them.
As the sky started to darken, the two of you realized just how long you’ve been captivated by the other. Luke was certain his friends were going to be looking for him eventually as it’s been almost a whole day since he left the studio.
“I should probably get home.” You told him, rubbing your arms as the ocean causes the air to prickle your skin. Luke nods and stands up, stretching his limbs out and reaching down to offer you a hand getting up. You happily take it, slipping your hand into Luke’s and neither of you let go when you were on your feet.
Perfectly timed with your stretching, your phone goes off and you look to see your dad’s contact on the screen along with an angry text about why you skipped school today. “Oooh, someone’s in trouble.” Luke teases you as he bumps his shoulder against yours. You chuckle at his actions before reading.
“He wants me to clean out the attic as punishment.” You sigh, shoving your phone back into your pocket.
Luke’s face scrunches. “The attic? Who does he think you are, Cinderella?”
You laugh again and shrug. “When we were moving, I didn’t feel like going through all of the boxes, so I may have shoved quite a bit of boxes up there so my dad didn’t see them. Unfortunately, that lasted about a week, but I don’t know why he’s making me clean it now, he must need something in there.”
Luke nods, looking down at your entwined hands before smiling softly. “Walk you home?” He offers. The smile on your face was all Luke needed to know you’d say yes.
Your house was barely a half an hour walk from the beach and to be honest, you’ve barely remembered the walk, only keeping Luke’s hand in yours and talking the whole time. You didn’t realize you were in front of your house until Luke stops walking, squeezing your hand tight.
“Good luck with the attic.” He tells you and you roll your eyes. “I’d offer to help but-”
“But you know I wouldn’t let you?” Luke nods at your comment before you both laugh, accidentally coming close together. Your chest was almost pressing against his as your gazes meet one another and you stay in your close bubble for just a moment longer before you clear your throat and take a step back, slowly dropping Luke’s hand at the same time. “Goodnight.” You whisper to him and Luke can’t say anything or do anything except nod. His cheeks were no doubt pink and he hoped the sky was dark enough so you wouldn’t see it. You smile at him, coursing a smile of his own to appear because how could he not smile at you. It was you.
He watches you disappear through your front door before he jumps and spins with excitement. God, it really was one thing to be able to talk to you instead of just writing things down, but when you touched him, it was like electricity. It felt like the stamps from the Hollywood Ghost Club except there was no pain. There was happiness, and warmth, and what Luke was beginning to believe can only be described as love.
---
The attic wasn’t as clean as you had remembered it being. A few of the boxes you had shoved up there had toppled over, sending a few things flying out of the boxes themselves and a layer of dust covered almost the entire room. You sent your dad a text, asking if he needed something up here or if he wants you to pull all the boxes out. Turns out you were right and he just wanted a pair of shoes you threw up here. Luckily for you, you knew exactly where they were and within 10 minutes, you were ready to get out of this dusty place. You were just about to leave before a box topples over from you shifting them around to get through. You sigh heavily, thinking about just leaving until next time someone comes up here, but you knew it would be yourself and you couldn’t do that to yourself.
So, you trudged your way back to the box, finding it easily and shoving the belongings back inside. It only took you a minute to realize none of the things in the box were yours or your dads.
They must be the old owners, you think to yourself. You knew there was probably a box or two that was forgotten was the old owners moved out, but you hadn’t seen them before when you were putting boxes up here, but you weren’t really paying attention. You thought against snooping, letting the older couple have their privacy and see if there was a way you could contact them and send them their boxes, but you couldn’t help yourself. Especially not after you see a pamphlet for an old band laying out on the ground.
The band name sounded familiar but you couldn’t remember listening to anything from a ‘Sunset Curve’. Judging by the band name and song names and the date listing the ablum in the mid-90s, it didn’t seem like the sort band a pair of grown adults would listen to. They must have had a kid or someone who was interested in this sort of music.
You almost tossed it aside. You almost shoved it back into the box without another thought to it and kept the box up here in the attic and never thought about it again. That was, until you remembered something a certain someone said to you the night you first met.
My friends and I, we had a band called Sunset Curve.
It must have been a coincidence that Luke’s band before Julie was named Sunset Curve. Maybe they just copied it right from this band, it’s been done before. But something was telling you that wasn’t the case.
You’ve never pulled out your phone faster, thumbs hitting every wrong spot on the screen until you finally pull up the internet and manage to type ‘Sunset Curve’. There were surprisingly quite a few websites that popped up and you click on the first one.
Sunset Curve: A Hollywood Tragedy
You don’t read the article yet. How could you when the picture of Luke, Alex, and Reggie along with a fourth boy were staring you in the face? You tell yourself again that it’s a coincidence, that this is taking about another Sunset Curve, that they used the wrong picture or something, that this band wasn’t a Hollywood tragedy in the 90s because your friends were barely older than 18, that this is all one big misunderstanding.
And then you read the article.
They died 26 years ago. They died 26 years ago when they were 17 years old. They died 26 years ago, when they were 17 years old, after eating hotdogs and getting food poisoning. They died 26 years ago, when they were 17 years old, after eating hotdogs and getting food poisoning together as friends.
You’ve heard this story before. You’ve cried over this story before. At first, all you thought you had to deal with was Luke, Reggie, and Alex being dead, being ghosts.
Julie and the Phantoms. That’s starting to make sense to you right about now.
Then the other pieces start to slowly slip together. Each passing second only leads you to one almost undeniable fact.
Either Luke, Reggie, or Alex is Jerry.
And you had a pretty good guess which one it was.

Troubadour - Luke Patterson
Summary: YOU’RE THE VOICE I HEAR INSIDE MY HEAD THE REASON THAT I’M SINGING I NEED TO FIND - not quite but Luke gets a set of chords stuck in his head and it turns out they’re yours.
A/N: I went with this one (but like Sunset Curve in the 90’s style) sharing songs = they keep hearing songs that they can’t find on the internet, finally realizing that they are their soulmate’s own, unpublished songs

“What are you playing?”
Luke stopped mid-hum, fingers stilling on his guitar and looking over at Alex. They’d been taking a break from practice but Luke had been strumming the same few chords for the last couple minutes. It wasn’t unusual behaviour but Luke typically would’ve been writing down lyrics or trying to figure out the next piece of the song. As far as Alex could tell he was just transfixed on those chords and nothing else.
“Uh,” Luke faltered for a minute, racking his brain for the name of the song that had been stuck in his for the last few weeks. “I…I don’t know,” he admitted.
“Do you have anything written yet?” Reggie looked almost hopeful as he asked. He’d been sneaking lyrics into Luke’s notebook lately. They weren’t bad but they also weren’t Sunset Curve by a longshot.
“It’s not mine,” Luke explained, “I spent all day yesterday at the record store on palermo and still can’t find it…”
“Where’d you hear it first?” Alex asked, interest piqued at this bit of information. Luke had an undeniable ear for music. He could know a song just from the opening strum of the guitar or strike of the drums. It was unusual that he didn’t recognise a song he’d been playing over and over again.
“That’s the thing,” Luke admitted, setting his guitar in its stand and getting up to pace around the room. “I don’t really remember. Like I just woke up one morning and it was in my head.”
“And you haven’t heard it anywhere else?” Bobby asked, coming back into the garage with water bottles for the four of them.
“No.” Luke shook his head, getting a little frustrated with the questions but more so just because he felt like he didn’t have any of the answers he wanted. “It just was stuck in my head one day and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Look, it’s whatever. Let’s just get back to practice. Reggie wants to go to that show tonight-“
“We can’t miss it, it’s open mic once a month, if it seems like a good crowd, we should think about putting our names down.” Reggie replied, cutting Luke off. He’d been telling them about this venue for a couple weeks now, since he and Bobby had gone down there for a show and seen a flyer about their amateur band nights. Unsigned bands in LA could perform for fairly regular crowds. It was better than anything they’d been doing.
“We won’t miss it,” Bobby said, grabbing his guitar.
-
The crowd was a good one tonight, not packed but full enough that Luke felt the familiar warmth of being surrounded by eager concert-goers. Alex pushed forward, the other three following him to the edge of the stage. There was a band performing, a group of 20-something guys dressed more like accountants than rockers but their music was good.
As the set finished, Luke turned away from the stage, listening to Bobby talking about how it seemed so far. Trust him to be the most analytical of the four of them. Luke was always all about the music but Bobby had a head for the business side of things too. It didn’t take long to switch out instruments, none of the bands seemed interested in keeping the crowd waiting for too long, not when most of them were just trying to get their names out there.
Luke still had his back turned as the house lights dimmed and the next band came out.
-
You weren’t normally this nervous about performing but lately you’d had a song stuck in your head and it’d been distracting you from working on your own music. As soon as you sat down to write it was there in the back of your head. You’d had songs kind of, creep up on you before. Words or chords just got stuck until you wrote them out but something about this song told you it wasn’t something you’d dreamed up yourself. It didn’t feel like you at all, more like you were hearing someone else’s song in your ear.
You hadn’t told anyone about it and now you were getting ready to go on with your band, hopeful that you didn’t mess up, trying to combat the song in your head with your own chords.
The crowd had some good energy, seemingly more welcoming than when you had been here the last time. “Hey, thanks for letting us take up some of your time tonight, this song is a new one I’ve been working on. I think I finally got it, I’ll let you guys decide,” the comment was met with some laughs and you smiled, trying to calm your heart from going haywire in your chest, “alright, here we go.”
You started strumming and Luke turned around, his eyes wide as he stared up at you. All he could remember was what Reggie had said on the way over, these were all new bands that didn’t have records, that hadn’t been signed. You said yourself you had just finished the song you were singing, but, Luke knew that song.
“That’s the song,” he said, nudging Alex, “that’s the song!”
“What song?” Alex asked, turning so he could hear him better, “you mean the song you were playing earlier today?”
“yeah; that’s it.”
“How is that possible, Luke, we’ve never seen these guys play before.” Alex reasoned. It didn’t make any sense that Luke would know a song before it even existed in the world, “maybe you’ve just got some chords stuck in your head and it sounds like that.”
“No,” Luke shook his head and looked back up at the stage. It was impossible to really see the crowd, he knew that, he’d been on stage enough times to know that you’re really just looking out at silhouettes. But as he looked up you turned your head and he swore your eyes locked with his. He could feel a pounding in his chest like the nerves he got before a show, sweat beaded on the back of his neck and goosebumps erupted on his skin. It was like his whole body was mirroring yours and you looked like you knew.
He wanted to pull you off stage and ask you how you’d done it. How had he heard that song in his head when it was only just finished, how had the words all seemed so familiar when just that afternoon he couldn’t remember any of them. Luke was stuck in that moment until he felt the house lights come up and he was blinking from the change, turning his head back and forth. He felt like he’d been dreaming, if he pinched himself he almost expected to wake up in the garage again.
“Luke!” Alex grabbed his arm and brought him back down to reality. He was awake after all, “where are you going? The next band is getting ready to play.”
“I have to find that singer…that, I…that’s the song.”

What You Want- Luke Patterson x OC
Luke Patterson x Daisy Sloane
Description: After seeing Luke and Julie in an awkward situation, Daisy asks him what he wants between them, and he doesn’t have an answer yet.
Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
Luke and Daisy had been getting to know each other for a while now. With Caleb’s contract no longer on both the boys and Daisy, Evangeline and Hattie, they were free to do whatever they wanted. When she had been working for Caleb she didn’t have a lot of leisure time because she was always rehearsing, performing, or serving customers. Nowadays, she spent more time outside, mostly people watching in random places. When she wasn’t doing that, she hung out with Luke. He always seemed happy to see her and eagerly saved her a seat during Julie and the Phantoms band practice when she wanted to come. She was pretty happy with the direction their (not quite) relationship was going.
But, at the same time, she can’t help but notice the looks Luke and Julie gave each other during the few times she watched the band rehearse. Some could shrug it off as them just being passionate about their art. And sure, Daisy could see that sometimes, but there was something different about it sometimes. Like when they would be a little too close during movie nights in the studio for just friends.
Of course Daisy had no reason to feel the jealousy that washed over her. It wasn’t like they were dating, though if they kept on going in this direction they (hopefully) would be in the near future. It wasn’t until almost two months after the contracts broke that those feelings went right out the window.
As usual, Luke had extended an invitation to watch the band practice, which she gladly accepted. She ended up getting there early with the intention of hanging out with him for a bit before the others got there. When she poofed in front of the studio, it only took one look inside the window to let her know that no one was in there, not even Luke. So, she decided to head up to the house to see if anyone was there yet, and she stopped in her tracks when she neared the front porch.
Luke stood beside Julie on the front porch. Their conversation looked important so she ducked out of sight to give them privacy, yet she couldn’t stay away for long as she heard them talk. They seemed to be having some sort of moment, which made a pang of jealousy hit her chest. Luke slowly held his hand out to the Molina girl, but unfortunately her hand just phased through his. Since the night of the Orpheum concert they sometimes had a hard time figuring out how touch worked for all of them, but especially with Julie since she was still alive.
“This is an interesting little relationship you and I have,” Luke muttered. The pang in Daisy’s chest stabbed deeper as she watched the interaction, then she decided she’d seen enough. She held back the tears that threatened to well up in her eyes as she turned away. Just as she was about to walk away, she ran into a large potted plant near the studio. The pot fell over with a loud clatter (though it thankfully didn’t break), and she cursed to herself as she bent down to pick it up. As she set it upright once more she heard footsteps behind her.
“Daisy?” The girl whipped around at the mention of her name. It was Luke who said it, and judging by the look in his eyes he knows she saw their little moment. Rather than be embarrassed about being caught, she only found herself more upset.
“No, no, don’t mind me. I was just leaving. Have fun with that ‘interesting little relationship’ you two have.” Daisy really tried to hide the bitterness in her voice as she spoke, but she had a feeling that it didn’t work. She didn’t stay long enough for them to answer before she turned to leave once again and headed down the driveway.
“Daisy, wait!” Luke’s voice came from behind her yet again, but she didn’t turn around again until he grabbed her wrist. She quickly spun and pushed him away.
“Don’t touch me,” she snapped.
“Please, just let me explain,” Luke begged.
“Explain what?” She questioned. “What I just saw? Explain the ‘interesting little relationship’ you and Julie have? There’s nothing to explain, but I need to know what you want with me and Julie.” The boy sighed softly.
“I don’t know,” he mumbled in response.
“Or I guess the question is, who do you want?” She crossed her arms with a scowl.
“I don’t know!” He repeated desperately. Daisy couldn’t help but scoff at his lame answer, her anger and hurt only multiplying.
“Well, why don’t you call me when you figure it out? Or better yet, maybe you shouldn’t call at all.” And with that, she suddenly remembered that she had the power to poof away. So that’s what she did, leaving Luke still standing at the edge of the driveway.
Tumblr media
A full week passed after the incident at the garage and Daisy was still refusing to talk to Luke. He hadn’t attempted to see her or contact her, and she couldn’t figure out if she was relieved or devastated by it. On one hand she was glad that he hadn’t seen her because she didn’t know what she would say to him. Yet, on the other hand, she had secretly hoped that he would show up and tell her that he chose her. But that came with its own difficulties. Why was it a question in the first place? Was she just a second choice because he’d known Julie longer? Did he just say he wanted her because he and Julie couldn’t touch or do normal couple things?
Daisy was overthinking again, and it didn’t help that Alex and Reggie were around a lot to spend time with Hattie and Eva (and Willy) respectively so she was continually reminded of Luke. By this point everyone in their friend group knew what happened. Daisy had told Eva and Hattie what happened which, in turn, led to the guys finding out as well. Based on how they reacted to just the mention of their friend’s name, they were also upset with his behavior. It made her feel a bit better, but she still couldn’t help but think about Luke when she was around them.
So, she took to just exploring more. It had basically become her life at this point, which made it easier for people to find her. That’s exactly what happened the day after the one week mark. Daisy was sitting on an empty bench in a park near Julie’s house. She had been people watching, but she looked over when someone took a seat beside her.
It was Luke, much to her dismay, yet she couldn’t bring herself to stand up. So, they just sat there for a few minutes in complete silence. Once she managed to tear her gaze away from him she refused to look at him until he finally spoke.
“I made my decision,” he said softly. The girl hummed in response, curiosity plaguing her features. It took another moment for him to continue.
“Do you want to know why Julie’s hand went through mine the other day?” Daisy hesitated for a moment, but eventually her curiosity got the best of her. It was now or never.
“Yeah.”
“It’s because my heart wasn’t in it like it usually is when I try to touch someone,” he explained. “It was a subconscious thing, I made myself transparent because I think I knew in my gut that I didn’t like Julie as more than a friend. I didn’t like her more than I like you.” He took her hand after speaking, which almost made her flinch away in surprise.
A small silence fell over them as Daisy processed his confession. His words had resonated with her in a way she didn’t think it would. Here he was, admitting that he was choosing her. But, one question popped into her head that she couldn’t ignore.
“You don’t… You’re not just choosing me because you and Julie can’t touch or do things like a normal couple?” She asked hesitantly. The question made Luke’s eyes widen and he quickly shook his head.
“What? No, absolutely not. I’m choosing you because I like you. It just took me forever to realize because I’m an idiot. The look on your face after you caught me and Julie was enough to make me realize it.”
“So why’d you take so long to find me, then?” She questioned. The boy’s cheeks became red in embarrassment and he looked down at his lap.
“I didn’t think you wanted to see me,” he admitted shyly. That made a small smile slowly form on her lips, and she gently squeezed his hand. Once he faced her again, her smile widened just a bit.
“Well, now that you’ve made your decision, what do you say to getting some ice cream or something?” She suggested. Her inquiry made Luke perk up and he nodded.
“Yeah, let’s do it.”
“Then lead the way, Patterson.” They stood in unison then made their way out of the park, comically wide smiles on their faces. Luke had definitely made the right decision.

A Luke Danes fic where a new girl gets a job with Luke at the diner and they secretly fall for each other? ♥️
hi honey, I hope you like this!
summary - you are new to town and following that you need a job, thankfully luke gives you a job at the diner, only issue is that you both end up falling for the other.
the gif I use isn't mine, divider by @newlips (deactivated)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were nervous, being new to a small town was one thing but to get a job on the first day was nerve-wracking. It also didn’t help that your new boss was so fine, you didn’t want to mess this up and embarrass yourself in front of him. So now you stood in front of your bed, wondering what to wear to work in a diner. Your clothes laid out neatly as you stare at them, picturing each outfit on your body. You look out the window, hoping the weather could help you decide.
With a quick decision you choose a large dark grey wool jumper, pairing it with a black mini skirt and some black tights and flats before heading back over to the mirror and clipping your hair back, allowing a few hairs at the front to fall gracefully, framing your face. “Shit!” You curse as you see the time and quickly grab your bag, running out the door.
You arrive at Luke’s diner, nearly out of breath and head inside, brushing imaginary dust off your clothes. You head over to the counter and anxiously wait for Luke to look up. You smooth out your jumper as you wait, brushing your hair from your face. You pause your movements as he looks up, you smile softly, hoping it helps hide your nerves. “Hi…”
He nods, clearing his throat as he checks you out subtly. “You’re early. Good.” He moves swiftly, reaching underneath the counter and pulling out an apron. “This is for you, you’ll help me take orders and serve said orders to the costumers.” You nod as he hands it over, you copy his movements and wrap the apron around your lower half. You thank him when he hands you the notebook and pen, giving him a small smile.
Throughout the day, you and Luke connect eyes multiple times, accidentally bumping into one another as you try to walk by, causing the two of you to awkwardly look away or move to the side, but the actions would only keep repeating themselves. When it came to closing time, you head towards the counter and untie your apron, neatly folding it and placing it on top of the bench, with the notebook and pen. You turn, about to tell Luke that you’ve done your part only for you to let out a gasp and bump into him. “I’m so sorry!”
He grunts. “It’s okay. You did good.” He realises that his hand is resting on your hip and quickly pulls away, his cheeks turning a bright pink. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” You shyly look up at him, knowing the way your heart pumps in your chest is wrong, you couldn’t possibly fall for your boss. Funny enough, you didn’t know Luke was thinking and feeling the same thing as he looked down at you. You both would spend weeks watching the other secretly, imagining what life would be like if you admitted your feelings. Maybe one day you would both find the courage to tell the other.

idk what this is but I've written it so.

Echo
Luke thinks before he died, he was happy. He had things he needed to do, promises to keep, but he was happy. He didn’t die happy though. He died angry. Angry that he could feel his life slipping away and there was still so much he had to do.
He never cared much for what he was supposed to do. He wasn’t ever one for college, or a career. Sometimes people told him that he needed to slow down or he would burn out, come crashing back down to earth like a falling star. Luke always said they were wrong, he was going to make it, never mind that most people didn’t.
When he died, laid out in an alley, killed by something as stupid as bad hotdogs, he thought they were right. He’d flown too high, like fucking Icarus or something, and now he had to pay his dues. He hoped the ferryman accepted guitar picks or crumpled up receipts.
He didn’t cross over into any type of afterlife though. For some reason the universe decided he deserved a worse fate. The dark, where Alex cried for too long and Reggie was too quiet, and Luke thought he might suffocate.
He started cutting the sleeves off of his shirts when he was thirteen. His mother never liked it, but that was fine, his mother never liked much of anything he did. At least she didn’t tell him he couldn’t. He liked his clothes better like that, liked the air on his arms. He liked it when it was just a little bit too cold and it made goosebumps rise up on his skin. It told him he was still alive, still free.
Luke can’t feel the cold anymore. He can’t feel the heat either, or the wind, or taste. It’s like the world is taunting him, taking away what made him feel whole, piece by piece.
At least there is the band. And Julie. Luke got everything he had wished for while he was alive. He gets to be famous. His band is amazing, and people love them.
But Luke can’t feel.
He doesn’t usually think about dying, about how it felt to feel the world fade away, laying in the grit of an alleyway, staring at the empty LA sky. He always wondered what it was like to see the night sky like it was in pictures, lit up with a thousand glowing stars.
He’s seen it now. He, Alex, and Reggie poofed out to some empty highway in the middle of the sonoran a few months ago just to look. Luke could hear the breeze in his ears, but the air felt perfectly temperate. Empty.
He doesn’t regret dying. Mostly because it’s useless to think about. It’s done now, there’s nothing he can do.
He does regret his loose ends. He does regret taking for granted everything he had. Now he has everything he wanted in life, and it feels hollow.
Alex is happier here. Reggie too, he thinks at least. They never seem to miss the things he does, and so he’s happy for them.
And he’s happy for the people he knows now. Happy to love them.
“Luke! You go on in five!”
Flynn’s voice tears Luke from his thoughts, and he throws his guitar strap over his neck, hurrying to meet the others backstage.
The stage lights are bright. Julie and the Phantoms are on their first tour after releasing an Album in spring.
Alex and Reggie are laughing, muffling their voices into their sleeves even though no one can hear them.
The show goes well, and Julie grins and hugs him when they get off stage. He can feel her arms around him, but they aren’t warm.
Luke pretends that they are.

when u think about it. Are we, humble jatp fans, really that different from Charlie and Madison, actors interpretating Julie and Luke for us, when we create and write fanfiction and they create Perfect Harmony?
like the first version of it is so damn different from the recorded version, its like a Julie and Luke thing we never saw, a different version of them. Its a different melody, different sounding, different lyrics, it's like Charlie and Madi were creating a different story for Julie and Luke through their music.
imagine if that version with more deepness was something that Luke tried writing on the 90's but he never finished bc he wasn't good at writing romantic ballads and his bandmates weren't exactly romance inspo, so he gave it up and never touched it again, focusing on other songs. And then 25 years later Julie creates the same song in her head. Like she never read it anywhere, she just created it. Like its fate for them. Let's say she ends up showing it to him — not as a song she made thinking of him, but something she wanted to try for the band, and he looks at it and is like that one song he made back when he was alive, and couldn't find the perfect ending of it.
I can go on a rant here and create a scenario where they are singing the song but it becomes a different scenario (like og perfect harmony) and is from Luke's pov this time, and they are singing together on stage but as if he was alive in the 90's, Julie would be wearing a 90's outfit and there would be lights to them, as the ending comes near, the audience and their bandmates disappear and is just them, singing it to each other.
also check out the lyrics this is perfect alright why isnt fanfic of this moment (the fic is the song already) (I'm gonna put it under a read more to reduce the post)
Step into my world,
bittersweet love story with this girl
shook me to the core
voice like an angel,
I've never heard before
Moved into the city,
shreds that guitar like I've never seen,
life can be so mean,
at least I know that he'll never leave
The other side is breaking through,
two worlds collide when I'm with you
voices come to life
why must we lie that we're
the perfect harmony
the perfect harmony
I feel the rhythm through my skin
souls collide from within
love me for who I am
The best of stories never bend
Chemistry that shines so bright
you brought music back to my life
heaven on earth is how it feels
the perfect harmony
the perfect harmony
the other side is breaking through,
two worlds collide when I'm with you
voices come to life
why must we lie that we're
the perfect harmony
the perfect harmony
we say we're friends, we play pretend
you're more to me
we create the perfect harmony

Alternative "last four words". (Original season)
After Rory leaves for the campaign trail, Luke and Lorelai visit Emily and Richard. In the final minutes of the show, Lorelai follows Emily, who's in a tizzy about something minor and is yammering on and on, into the kitchen.
Fed up Lorelai yells "Mom!"
Emily rolls her eyes " Lorelai. . . "
Lorelai blurts out, "I'm pregnant." and then the credits roll.

Your body ached. That was the only thing you could feel. Actually, that was incorrect; you also had a headache and a snotty nose and you were pretty sure your temperature could boil water. In essence, you felt awful. You’d toughed it out for as long as you could, making yourself a steaming hot tea and cozying into the sofa for the night. It wasn’t making you feel any better. So, in a last ditch effort of saving your night, you dialled your boyfriend.
You smiled as his croaky, half-asleep voice came through your phone, murmuring your name.
“I’m sorry, did I wake you?” You asked, brows furrowed as you checked the time, gasping when it read 1:45am. You thought it was still closer to eleven.
“Don’t worry about it, couldn’t sleep anyway,” Luke lied and you frowned, though he couldn’t see it through the screen.
“No, it’s dumb. I’m sorry I woke you up. Night, Luke.” You moved to hang up when Luke interrupted you.
“Baby, wait! Clearly something’s bothering you. What’s up?” You smiled despite your discomfort, your boyfriend always boosting your mood without even trying.
“Nothing,” You pouted in your puddle of blankets, “Just feel sick.” You could feel Luke’s pity without him saying anything and weren’t sure whether to be indignant or grateful.
“Can you stay awake for twenty more minutes, love?”
“I guess so, why?” You asked, turning the TV back on as something to keep you from sleeping.
“I love you,” Was all he said, hanging up on you abruptly. You smiled softly to yourself, willing your eyes to stay open as you tried to focus on the sitcom in front of you.
You were just dozing off when you heard your apartment door unlocking and the brief shuffling of feet in the entryway. Your grin brightened, the familiar butterflies returning to your chest, even after months of being with Luke. The man in questioned approached you quietly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead as you looked up at him.
“Luke, it’s 2 am, what are you doing here?” You asked despite the obvious answer, opening your shield of blankets for him to crawl onto the sofa with you. He made you wait, tipping out his reusable shopping bag onto the coffee table in front of you. There lay a pint of ice cream, tea bags, painkillers, and your favourite chocolate. Suddenly you weren’t sure if the heat on your face was fever or blush. Silently you held your arms out, and Luke dove into them with all the enthusiasm of a child, peppering your faces with all the kisses he could manage.
“Couldn’t let my girl be sick on her own,” He mumbled, nuzzling himself into the crook of your neck, eliciting a bout of giggles from you.
“My very own Prince Charming,” You grinned, pecking his temple. After a gratuitous moment of cuddling Luke peeled himself off you, taking on the role of concerned caretaker. He was quick to dart into the kitchen, turning the kettle on for your tea and grabbing a spoon for the ice cream he’d bought. Sitting himself in the vacant spot next to you he fixed his focus onto the TV.
“What are we watching?” He asked, pulling the lid off the ice cream tub for you.
“How I Met Your Mother, I’ve just reached season seven.” Luke gasped dramatically, holding his hands over his chest in faux outrage.
“You continued without me? How could you?” You laughed at his accusatory tone, shrugging your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, Lukey. You have to forgive me though, I’m sick,” You punctuated the statement with a pathetic cough, smiling as Luke easily settled down.
You watched in silence for a bit, both giggling at the stupid jokes. After a while you felt Luke looking at you seriously, but chose not to think much of it, continuing to tune in to the show. When he pulled out a thermometer, you raised an eyebrow. Luke wasn’t usually one to be so prepared, but you let him rest it on your tongue nonetheless. When it read a concerningly high number Luke frowned, silently popping the painkillers out of their packaging, feeding you with the insistence of a fed up mother hen.
“Why aren’t you a nurse?” You joked, swallowing the medication with a mouthful of melted ice cream, “Rockstar be damned.”
“Only for you, love.”
“That’s not true, I’ve seen you fretting over Reggie,” You laughed, and Luke couldn’t help but join you.
“That’s fair. You’re my favourite, though.”
“How unexpected.” You craned your neck to press a kiss to his jaw, revelling in the dumb grin that crept onto his face.
You both settled into silence, you leant into Luke’s side, his hands rubbing soft circles into your thigh. You could feel yourself drifting in and out of sleep, never quite able to stay in it for one reason or another. The blanket was too hot, you were cold without it, your head hurt. Nothing was quite right and all you wanted to do was sleep for as long as humanly possible.
“Luke?” You whispered, in case he was already asleep.
“Yes, love?” He replied, shifting his position to look down at you. You faltered for a moment, overwhelmed with the pure adoration in his eyes.
“Will you play for me?” Luke was up in a second, arranging you on the sofa. You giggled as he manhandled you, lying you down and wrapping you tightly in your blanket so you couldn’t escape. You teased him about being his captive audience as he tuned his guitar quickly, never being so grateful for his perfect pitch.
Without anymore holdups Luke began to play, plucking softly at the strings to create a melody that filled the air of your little apartment. His playing was like a siren call, pressing weights on your eyelids until you could barely stand to keep them open. You watched him while you could, admiring the way the faint light from the kitchen lamp made him look like an Adonis, his hair illuminated in gold and his features accentuated by the shadows. You couldn’t believe he was your boyfriend. Luke Patterson, heartthrob of Julie and the Phantoms was your dorky, adoring boyfriend who would make supermarket trips in the middle of the night for you. Who had your favourite ice cream memorised and your key attached to his, so he could come see you whenever he missed you (which was pretty much always).
Despite the various aches and pains that had overtaken your body, the only thing you could feel as you drifted off to sleep was the burning ball of light in your chest, a chemical mixture of joy and love and gratitude, overtaking your senses one by one until you were asleep, dreams filled of beautiful images of your boyfriend.
When you woke up the next morning, you figured out it wasn’t morning at all. Luke had evidently switched off your phone’s alarm after you’d fallen asleep, and it was well into early afternoon when you’d arisen. To his credit though, the sleep had done you some good, and you felt much less like walking death after an intense sleep.
You untangled yourself from the knit blanket, your feet wobbly on the hard wood floors. You had serious post-nap daze, and wandered through your flat looking for your boyfriend. The poorly made sheets on your actual bed told you where Luke slept last night — or this morning, more accurately — you smiled at the way he’d arranged your stuffed animals.
Stuck to the fridge under your New York City magnet was a note from Luke, explaining he had to go to rehearsal but he’d be back later to check on you. You pulled the paper off, travelling back to your room to put the note in your ‘Luke’ box, adding to the collection of notes and drawings he’d given you inconsequentially that you’d held onto.
As the afternoon ticked by you’d gotten onto your computer, figuring that although you were still ill you should try and get something productive done. You were armed with your box of tissues as you got started on an assignment you had due at the end of the week, and slipped your headphones on to get into the headspace.
You screamed as a pair of arms wrapped around you from behind, quickly dissolving into giggles as you realised it was only Luke, back from rehearsal.
“Your voice still sounds scratchy, baby, how are you feeling?” He asked, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“Better, promise. Tomorrow I’ll probably go to class if I get another good night’s sleep.”
“That’s my girl.” He grinned, and you felt your insides melting all over again. You closed the laptop, knowing you weren’t going to get much more done now that Luke was with you.
You spent the evening together, ordering in pizza from the place around the corner and getting slightly wine drunk as Luke told you all about his earlier rehearsal and the antics of his band. He sang you part of the new song he and Julie had written and you applauded dramatically, only stopping when you broke into a coughing fit.
“Wanna watch something?” He asked when you grew tired again, cuddling up to him like a cat.
“Barbie?” You asked hopefully, looking up at him with wide eyes. Luke sighed dramatically, but you knew he was just pretending not to like the animated movies you’d grown up on.
“Only if it’s Island Princess,” He offered and you nodded enthusiastically.
The two of you settled in for the movie night, Luke getting much more into the movie as it went on, as he always did. By the end you were singing duets — your voice considerably less pleasing than his, especially due to your illness — Luke taking on the role of the prince letting you be Ro.
As the credits rolled you felt your eyes closing again, and you felt eerily like you did as a younger girl, falling asleep on the couch after a Barbie movie. This was better though, because now you had Luke next to you. He’d taken his role as big spoon extremely seriously, and had all but become one with the couch, pressing into the back as he wrapped his arms around you tightly.
You shifted your position to face him, watching his face relax into contentedness as he tried to doze off to sleep. Feeling you watch him he cracked one eye open, mouth producing a dumb grin that made butterflies erupt in your chest.
“What?” He asked, but you got the distinct impression he knew exactly what you were thinking.
“Nothing,” You lied, but gave in easily, “You’re pretty.”
“You’re pretty too. Now go to sleep.” You nodded, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“Kay, goodnight Lukey. I love you.”
“Love you too, my girl. So much.” His answer was muffled by him pressing his face into your hair to pull you closer, but you couldn’t wipe the smile from your face even as sleep enveloped you.

Thank You, Jerry~ Part 6
Luke Patterson x Alive!Reader Series
Tumblr media
Summary: After getting an afternoon free from the band, Luke decides to see his parents, only to find out something he wasn’t expecting.
A/N: Surprise! Guys, guys, guys, it’s over! Listen, I enjoyed writing this series, but it brought me WAAAAY more stress than it should have because it lined up perfectly with my writers slump. I wanted to write more for it, but I pushed this for almost two years and it was baaaaad. I might write an epilogue for it to tie up lose ends and thoughts, but I’m not promising anything because who knows how when that could be out.
I am also trying something new with tags! I am so tired of adding taglists at the bottom of fics, so I made a taglist blog and it is @updates-from-elle and the idea is if you want to be tagged in fics, you follow that account and turn on notifications. I’m going to use it for this blog as well as my doctor who blog, so you would get notifs for both, just focus on the ones you want to read! That should be it! Hope you enjoy!

Part 6: Where do we go from here?
---
Luke’s mind was racing as he sits in his friend’s silence, each of them processing everything Luke had told them about you and being Jerry. When he came back to the studio less than an hour ago, he knew he had to tell them everything, especially since he had disappeared for a whole day.
“This whole time you were lying to her?” Alex mumbles, bouncing his leg and chewing on his nail. Luke wasn’t proud of himself, but he nods.
“I was going to tell her.” He tries to defend but his friends all give him different looks of disbelief. Luke slumps back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest with a pout. “Eventually.” He mutters and Julie throws her arms in the air.
She reaches for her phone on the table in front of everyone. “What are you doing?” Reggie asks, peaking over her shoulder as she searches through her contacts.
“Calling Y/N. Luke is going to explain everything to her.”
Luke’s eyes bug out of his head as he leaps across the table, snatching Julie’s phone out of her hand and holding it out of her reach.
“Give me my phone back!”
“No!” Luke’s desperate plea is ignored as Alex plucks the phone out of his hand and tosses it to the girl. “No, no, no, wait please- Don’t call Y/N, she’ll hate me!”
“She’ll get over it.” Julie says and taps the phone icon next to your name, hearing the little rings as she fakes a smile.
Alex and Reggie are holding Luke back from grabbing the phone again and Luke doesn’t know what to say until he shuts his eyes tight and shouts, “I’m in love with her!” The room falls quiet again and the only sound to be heard is Julie’s phone playing out your voicemail. Julie hangs up and Alex and Reggie’s hold on Luke disappear. They all take their seats once more, each in shock by Luke’s declaration, including the guitarist himself. Luke takes a shaky breath. “I know that I messed up.” He finally says, voice quiet and unsure of himself. “And I need to fix it.”
Luke was thankful your call went to voicemail. He needed to make things right, but he needed more time than this.
---
This was bad. This was really bad.
It’s been 5 days since Luke had last seen you. 4 days since Luke was ready to tell you everything. 3 days since Luke started to get worried. 2 days since you last left Julie on read and sent her to voicemail. And 1 day since Luke first popped into your house when he had time between rehearsals at a time you and your dad typically eat dinner, only to see your dad eating at the table alone.
He didn’t want to assume anything happened, but he only had a few minutes to check on you. He hadn’t seen your truck in your driveway for a few days, and neither Julie or Flynn had seen it at school. He went into your room a few times today, looking for any sign of you, but besides how freakishly clean your room is for you, he’s seen nothing.
“I’m telling you,” Luke groans, throwing himself on the couch, “something happened to her. I know it.”
“I’m sure she’s fine.” Julie tells him, smacking his feet off the couch and taking their spot. “She’s probably just out busy or something.”
“And ignoring her best friends?” Luke asks, giving her a look that tells her he already knows the answer.
Julie’s quiet for a moment until she starts playing with the hem of her coat. “Well, there could be another reason.”
Luke furrows his brows for a moment, trying to figure out what she was talking about until it hits him. Before Julie can even call out his name, Luke disappears, reappearing in your bedroom. He looks everywhere, going through your desk, bedside table, even opening your closet.
A lot of your clothes were missing, and your suitcase which you kept on a shelf at the top was gone. You were gone. He throws the door closed, pacing back and forth as he tries to think of some reason, of any reason, why you’d leave and where you’d go. He stands in front of your photo wall, eyes darting back and forth until Luke notices something very obvious and very depressing. Every photo of you had of the band and you and the little scraps of paper you hung up for Jerry was gone. He runs his hand over where they used to be. He tugs on the leftover pinned corners of the photos and notes. Not only were they gone, they were torn from the wall.
Luke’s stomach falls.
You knew.
You knew everything.
And now you were gone.
---
Luke didn’t think he was at your house for that long, but he collapsed on the bed, staring up at the ceiling he knew all too well as his tears dry on his cheeks. He didn’t hate that you knew. Secretly, he believes he was glad you knew, that he didn’t have to keep this a secret for any longer. But he hated that you found out on your own. He hated that he kept it a secret for months and you found out by yourself, probably believing you were lied to by all your friends. You were actively ignoring Julie, you didn’t say anything to the band, and you were just… gone.
The front door bell rings a few times as Luke sits up, knowing he should probably get going. Your dad opens the door as Julie stands there with a smile. “Can I help you?” Your dad asks, holding the door unknowingly wide enough for Julie to see Luke appear over his shoulder, his eyes red and puffy.
“Hi.” Julie sighs before looking back at your dad, “um, sorry. I’m friends with Y/N,” Your dad takes a deep breath and sighs. “I just haven’t seen her at school in a while and she’s not answering her phone. I just wanted to make sure she’s okay.”
“Julie, right?” Your dad asks and Julie smiles and nods. “Y/N talks about you all the time, I knew I recognized you from her wall.” He rubs his face before sticking his hands in his pockets and leaning against the door frame. “She’s fine. She uh, she decided she was going to go live with her mom for a while.”
“Her mom?” Luke pulls a face at your dad’s answer. You wouldn’t go live with your mom just because you found out the truth, would you?
“Her mom?” Julie repeats Luke’s question, hoping to get a bit more out of the adult. He nods, the smile he forces on his face was fake as Julie can see how sad the thought made him. “Um, thank you. If you talk to her, do you think you ask her to call me back?” Julie asks and your dad nods before seeing Julie off.
Luke joins her side only seconds after the front door closes. “She knows.” He says, making Julie jump as she walks. “She tore all of our pictures off the wall.”
“Maybe it was an accident.” Julie tries but Luke was unimpressed.
“An accident that only resulted in our pictures being gone and thrown in the trash?”
Julie stops walking with a frown. “She threw them in the trash?”
Luke shrugs. “I don’t know, I never found them.”
“So maybe she kept them.”
“I don’t know! But I do know one thing.”
Julie looks at Luke, her brows pulling together in wonder before her face falls. “Oh, please don’t tell me you’re going to-”
“I’m going to go see Y/N.”
---
Julie was calling you again.
You hit deny before powering off your phone, falling back in the sunflower field you were sat in. You just needed time. Living with your mom again was the last thing you wanted to do, but you only slept at her house and chose to spend your days here in the field or around the town. You just couldn’t be home with your friends right now. Julie most likely had no idea Luke was Jerry when you were telling her about him, but there was no way she didn’t know they were ghosts.
You were so lost in your thoughts as you watched the clouds dance through the sky that you didn’t hear the footsteps coming your way before a shadow falls over your face. “Hey.” You sit up a little, leaning on your elbows to look up at the girl standing in front of you, someone you hadn’t seen since before you moved with your dad. Kendall smiles down at you. “My mom thought she saw you out here in our flowers yesterday.”
You didn’t know what to say. She ignores you for months, hanging out with her new friends and thinks she can just show up while you’re struggling through things and pretend to be friends again.
At your silence, Kendall huffs. “Look, I don’t know what’s been going on with you lately since you moved, but you’re still my best friend. We went from texting or calling every day to whatever this is where I haven’t heard from you in weeks! And-and when I do, it’s like you’re not even you!” You stare at her, your lips part as you release a shaky breath because you had no idea what she was talking about. She picks at the flower in front of her, refusing to meet your eyes. “I miss my best friend.”
“I texted you.” you whisper, hearing your voice crack from its first use in a few days. Kendall meets your eyes. “I texted you and I called you and you sent me to voicemail.”
“What?” She gasps, taking a seat next to you. “No, I didn’t. I texted you every day for weeks and you ignored me.”
You shake your head and pull out your phone, scrolling through the unanswered messages from you to Kendall. What surprises you is when Kendall hands you her phone and shows you the same. Hundreds of text messages and outgoing calls from her to you that you never got. Kendall and you were beginning to put two and two together.
“Wait, show me my contact.” Kendall says and you show her phone number, nothing weird on your end. “Call me.” You do so, hearing the phone go to voicemail, but nothing pops up on Kendall’s phone.
You tilt your head, drawing your lip between your teeth before asking her to show you yours. You read the number on the phone before closing your eyes. “That’s not my number.”
Kendall’s quiet for a moment. “When was the last time I texted you?”
“Um, I don’t know.” You say and start scrolling through your texts. “I think the last time I saw anything from you was a few months ago and you left me on read because you were at Meredith’s party.”
“Meredith borrowed my phone.” Kendall whispered. Within just a few seconds, Kendall and you find your phone number sitting in Kendall’s blocked contacts.
“She blocked me.”
“That bitch.”
Your eyes widen. “Wait, you don’t like her?”
Kendall huffs out a laugh. “Like her? I hate her! She literally made your life hell.
“Then why were you hanging out with her and going to her parties?”
Kendall starts blushing as she avoids your eye contact. “Because she’s friends with Bailey. And Bailey is hot.”
Your mouth drops open in amusement. Leave it to Kendall to only hang out with your enemy for a cute girl. You start laughing, feeling immense relief that even after everything is over, you’d still always have her. Kendall slowly joins you in laughing, bumping her shoulder with yours as you both lay back in the sunflower field, enjoying being together once again.
When the laughter stops, Kendall speaks up. “Why did you come back?” She’s not mad that you’re here, you being here just made this one of the best days she’s had in a while, but she is confused. “I thought you’d never willingly choose to live with your mom again.”
You sigh, breathing out a laugh through your nose before you tell Kendall everything. Every little thing from moving into the new house, meeting Jerry, meeting Julie and the boys, getting to know Luke, and most importantly, being lied to by him.
Kendall doesn’t know what to say and her silence is scaring you a little. Finally, she takes the bag she was carrying and smacks you in the arm with it, repeatedly.
“Ow!” you say although she wasn’t truly hurting you.
“I’m sorry, but are you stupid?” She says and you push her away jokingly. “Y/N. It’s so obvious that you’re in love with him.”
“He lied to me, Kay. He’s still lying to me. How can I be sure he wo-”
“So, talk to him.” She interrupts you, grabbing your hand. “Look, what he did sounds stupid and awful and I don’t doubt you would love to ignore him and your new friends and never have to deal with the problem.” She knows you very well. “But I also know that those feelings you have for him aren’t going to go away and you are just going to eat yourself up inside until you figure out why he did what he did. I’m sure for some reason or another, Luke had a reason to pretend to be Jerry.” You know she has a point. And you know that this can’t just be a problem you push aside and ignore, just like the problem you thought you had with Kendall. Your phone buzzes on your lap, Julie’s contact lighting up the screen as Kendall and you sit up. She squeezes your hand one last time. “Talk to them. Then, come over to my place. You’re staying the night with me and not your mom.”
You watch as Kendall gets up and walks away, leaving you in the sunflower field with Julie’s call still ringing. With a final sigh, you answer the phone.
---
Luke was pacing back and forth in the studio, waiting for Julie to get off the phone call. The door finally opens and Julie steps inside. Luke jumps her way, followed by Alex and Reggie who were all worriedly waiting to find out what exactly is going to happen.
Julie glares at Luke before nodding and relaxing her shoulders. “She wants to talk to you.”
Luke’s legs almost give out in relief. “Is she still on the phone?”
Julie shakes her head. “She wants you to go to her. She said she’s in ‘her spot’, and that you’d understand what that meant.”
Luke’s face lit up almost immediately. He knew exactly what that meant. You were in the sunflower field.
“Wait, wait, wait.” Alex interrupts Luke’s happiness. “How are you going to get there? It’s not like you can poof there, you don’t really know exactly where she is, right?”
Alex had a point, but Luke knew he had to go. He had at least known the town you lived in, finding a sunflower field after that couldn’t be that hard, could it?
He smirks to all his friend and jumps a few times on his feet. “Wish me luck.”
The three of his friends all exchange different forms of worried glances before shouting ‘good luck’ before Luke is gone.
“He’s not going to find her, is he?” Reggie asks, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Alex claps him on the back before throwing his arm over the bassists shoulder.
“He’ll be lucky if he finds the town correctly.” The blond says and all three of them chuckle at their friend’s eager departure, yet happy to believe everything will be alright.
As long as Luke can find you.
---
Luke found the town, he had barely a problem there, the only real problem was the town was a lot bigger than he expected. He should have asked Julie to look up the sunflower field on her phone before he left. He didn’t even have a phone. He didn’t even know how to find or use a computer enough to even look for the sunflower field. Why couldn’t you have been somewhere easier to find? Like the town hall in front of Luke. Or that coffee shop right next to the town hall. Or with Kendall, who is walking into the coffee shop.
Luke’s eyes practically bug out of his head when he recognizes Kendall and he’s quick on his feet to follow after her with a smile. She was ordering when he pushes open the door, making the bell ring hard above the door. A lot of people jump at Luke’s arrival, including Kendall, as they all look his way but quickly gets back to their own conversations. Except Kendall. She looks away from Luke for the briefest of seconds before her eyes are locked onto him again and wide.
“You.” Kendall says, pointing at Luke and Luke’s smile quickly falls when he sees her frown and eyes narrow.
Luke’s words are rushed. “Where’s the field?”
Kendall is closer, her pointed finger almost pushing into his chest. “You!”
“Kendall!” He puts his hands in the air, taking a few steps back until he’s pressed again the door behind him. He almost yells.  “The field!”
“Behind my house!” She yells back but doesn’t move from her position. “But you go and you make things right and you apologize for breaking my best friends’ heart and you promise to never ever do it again or I will find you and I will make sure your ghost butt stays dead.”
“I will.” Luke promises her and Kendall’s hand falls a few seconds later and Luke can finally step away from the door, relief flooding through him.
“Good.” She nods.
The two of them stand in awkward silence for a moment before Luke clears his throat. “So uh, you know then? Abo-about everything?”
Kendall lets out a soft laugh before nodding. “You really messed up. Go fix it.”
Luke didn’t need to be told twice.
---
After getting the exact directions from Kendall, Luke was standing in front of the Sunflower field, knowing you were somewhere amongst the flowers. He closes his eyes before starting through the field, looking for you.
He can see your head, poking up amongst the flowers. You were pacing back and forth, barely as tall as the flowers around you. Luke just watches for a moment, unsure what exactly he is going to say until your eyes flicker up, finding his surprisingly fast.
Your breath stills in your throat and you want to look away so you don’t give away how much seeing Luke and knowing the truth hurts you, but you can’t. Instead, you remain eye locked with him as he slowly comes closer, gently pushing aside the flowers to get by.
You can’t make yourself say anything as Luke stops in front of you, his eyes softly locked onto yours. “Hi.” He manages to breathe out but you stay silent. His fingers twitch as he fights his desire to touch you, to take your hand in his and hug you or do anything to beg for your forgiveness. Instead, he simply stares at you, wishing he put a little more thought into what he was going to say instead of leaving without thinking.
Luke could feel the tears begin to build in his eyes, “I messed up. I messed up so badly and I shouldn’t have lied to you. I should have- I should have said something, told you the truth, told you anything. And I didn’t. I’m so sorry.”
It hurt to look at him. It hurt to be close to him. You wanted to yell at him, to put space between you both, to show him how much it hurt you to know everything was a lie.
But you couldn’t.
In fact, you did the opposite.
Instead of yelling, you close the distance. Your chests meet as your hand fall on the back on his neck, pulling his lips into yours. Luke grips your waist, scared he was imagining it all, that he could let go and you’d slip through his fingers.
Time stopped in the small sunflower field as Luke and you lose yourselves in the kiss, gently pulling each other closer than you had ever been and loving every second of it.
When time moves again, your forehead rests on his, your eyes and his were closed as you wiped away a tear falling down your cheek. “I wanted to hate you.” you finally say, your voice was quiet and broke with your words. “I wanted to hate you so much.” Luke couldn’t bring himself to open his eyes as he pressed his forehead against yours, no longer fighting his tears and resorts to wiping them as well. “I trusted you and you lied to me and you kept lying to me.”
“Y/N-“ he finally speaks but you shake your head and pull away.
You meet his eyes and barely muster a smile. “But I can’t hate you.”
Relief floods Luke’s body as he releases a breath and blinks away his tears. His hand finds your cheek and his thumb drags across the wet streak on your skin. You lean into his touch and your eyes flutter close for the briefest of moments. “I love you.” You say, placing your hand onto his. “And it doesn’t matter if you were Jerry or Luke, I think I loved you as both.”
Luke doesn’t know what to say, there’s only one thing he can say. “I love you too. I have for months now, and I didn’t know what to do about it.” He knows no matter how great, how amazing and perfect this moment is, he needs to explain himself. You deserve that.
And so, as the two of you lay down on the sunflower field and watch the sky fade from a bright blue lit up by the sun to a dark blue illuminated by the stars, you listened to Luke explain everything. He started with everything about meeting you and the months since then and about Jerry. You listened closely, not wanting to interrupt Luke as he played with your fingers, apologizing every so often when he imagines how you must have felt.
After a while, the two of you run out of words to say. You’ve moved closer to each other, Luke’s arm was stretched out and holding you as you were settled into his side, resting your head on his chest. His hand not wrapped around your body was still playing with your fingers, lacing them through his own as he smiles.
“I never thought I would see this.” He whispers, more to himself but with your closeness, you hear it. You hum and squeeze his hand before he returns the gesture along with a kiss on the top of your head. “So where do we go from here?”
Luke’s question catches you off guard. To be honest, you weren’t sure. You both knew he had a long way to go before he earns your complete forgiveness, but he would spend the rest of his afterlife trying. That wasn’t the only problem, however. He is a ghost, you are alive. You could never have a normal relationship, but as you lay here in his arms, you were certain of two things. The first was you didn’t want normal, you just wanted him. The second was you were absolutely in love with him, and it didn’t matter where you both went from here.
As long as you had your Jerry.
As long as you had your Luke.

red columbine (anxiety) — “can you hold my hand? please?” for Alex and anyone because of course
Julie’s feet dragged beneath her, her pace gradually slowing the further they walked, and they were quickly losing light. The city silhouetted before them by the setting sun behind it, no longer shining green as it had that afternoon. Even Toto, usually full of boundless energy, had worn himself out and let Luke carry him. The small animal typically didn’t find the stiff metal of Luke’s arms all that comfortable.
It was testament to how much they had traveled today. The breaks became shorter and shorter as the day wore on.  Everyone excitedly pushed on now that their goal was in sight.
However, over the past hour or so they appeared to be getting no closer. It left Alex to wonder just how massive this Emerald CIty must be.
“Julie?” Reggie hesitantly stepped in her path to force her to stop. She was far too nice to push him out of her way though she easily could. “We should stop for now.”
“But it’s right there.” She said through a stifled yawn–her words bleeding together slightly–gesturing around Reggie’s shoulders. “We’re so close. It's right there.”
“I know, Julie, I know. But you and Toto and Alex need to sleep. It won’t do you any good meeting the Wizard if you’re too tired to even properly speak."
She swayed on her feet, Reggie’s hands hovered by her shoulders ready to catch her if she fell. Or at least cushion her if Luke or Alex couldn’t get there quick enough to catch her themselves since Reggie’s strength was unfortunately unpredictably unreliable. The three of them patiently waited where they were until Julie finally nodded.
Like clockwork they all moved starting work on the jobs they’d all fallen into when it came to making camp. Julie cleared out an area big enough for them, Luke went to get Firewood while Reggie looked for something Julie and Toto could eat. Alex helped out where he could.
Soon enough they’d eaten and Julie had fallen asleep, head resting on Reggie’s lap. His eyes darted between her and more fearfully to the small fire Luke tended to. Early on Reggie had avoided getting this close to the fire entirely but risked it more and more the closer to the Emerald city they had gotten. Drawn in by Julie's stories and songs.
“You know,” Luke said, and the curious tone alone was enough to force Alex’s heavy eyes to stay open. “If we’d pushed, we probably still could have made it to the city and at least found somewhere for Julie to have a proper bed to sleep on."
It's a thought that had crossed Alex's mind earlier but he was too much of a coward to say anything about. More than a little–if perhaps rather guiltily–grateful to have what could end up being their last night together like this. It's not that he didn't want the Wizard's help or to keep his friends from getting the help they so desperately wanted either. But, there was no way things wouldn't change after tomorrow.
And what if the Wizard didn’t agree to meet with them after all. Could he handle that sort of disappointment? Could Julie?
"Oh, guess I hadn’t thought of that." Reggie softly said, pulling Alex out of his thoughts, before letting out a bitter laugh with his next words “Then again, how could I?”
Luke hummed thoughtfully, and Alex kept his mouth shut. Another thing he couldn’t be brave enough to call either of them out on. Maybe he simply had less brains and heart than he thought he had before meeting the two of them.
All thoughts he could wrestle with another time. For now, he would try to focus on getting at least one last good night’s sleep without having to worry. Secure in the knowledge Reggie and Luke would keep an eye out for all of them.
As always, Alex found himself waking up earlier than he would have liked. Even if he had been resting easier these past weeks traveling with Julie, Reggie, and Luke, his fears never truly quieted. However, unlike every other morning, Julie was already up sitting and facing the Emerald City as it slowly began to shine with the rising sun. The fire had been put out and Luke and Reggie were missing. Probably off fetching food and walking Toto who was also not to be seen.
The excitement of yesterday was replaced by a nervous uneasy energy. Julie ate her breakfast in a silence that not even Luke or Reggie dared to break. And when they finally started on their journey again, she hesitated to follow the Scarecrow and Tinman.
“You all right?” Alex asked
“It’s all going to change.” She said, staring at the city in front of them. “I’ve been so focused on getting home I didn’t stop to think about what I might be leaving behind.”
Alex briefly blinked at her. He wasn’t used to anyone openly expressing their fears with him. Let alone their fears matching up so well with his. So he struggled trying to figure out how to comfort her, searching for the right thing to say or do.
Thankfully, Julie was better adept at asking for help than he was. “Can you hold my hand? Please? I need some help being brave.”
Of course, Julie was equally adept at completely shattering his worldview in entirely unexpected ways. Him? Help her be brave?
For her, he’d try.
“Absolutely.” He said, extending out a paw. The two of them soon followed the others, facing the uncertainty of their future together.
