prologue --- chapter four -- chapter six
a/n: long time no see - this is actually a record for me not posting anything in a year, i was just so busy and then when i wasn’t i didnt have the motivation to write. so sorry for taking so long and i dont even know if people are interested in this fic any more but i’ve written some more for it again so might as well post it and hopefully will not disappear for a year again. anyways i went back and made a few changes through the story already written including the addition of a nickname for the reader (mainly because i dont like using y/n all the time) but yeah this a little filler chapter so there is more of a connection between the characters before i ruin it for them in a few chapters time :)
Tumblr media
“Alright! This place looks great!” Aang clapped his hands together as Appa landed in a large clearing, a stream running through it and into the forest that surrounded them.
She watched the avatar jump from the bison’s saddle and onto the dirt below where he stood with his arms wide, a huge smile on his face. And she couldn’t help but smile back at him - his positive energy was infectious and it meant the prospect of staying in this clearing for a few days more appealing - especially as the water tribe siblings were still a little hesitant towards her.
Although, after their experience in the swamp, and whatever went on in Chin on Avatar Day, she had noticed Sokka being a little more caring towards her and Katara was doing her best to be civil. So even if they didn’t trust her yet, they were trying and so was she - so hopefully, their relationships could only improve from there.
The idea of having a break from the Avatar's group constantly getting into trouble and other situations that make her head spin if she thought on it for too long, put a smile on her face as she climbed off Appa’s saddle, the feeling of dirt beneath her feet allowing the tension to melt from her body. She may have only been with this weird group for a week or two now but she wasn’t yet used to flying on Appa, her fear of heights making her uncomfortable every time they travelled on him.
Caught in her own thoughts as she reached for her bag, she didn’t notice Aang trying to get her attention, that was until he airbended himself right in front of her a bright smile on his face as he spoke, “Hey Lia I was calling your name, do you want to play a game?”
She blinked at him, surprised by the nickname she hadn’t heard someone else call her in over a year now.
The lack of response confused the young avatar, waving his hand in her face he asked, “is everything okay? You seem a little out of it?”
“Yeah I’m fine,” she nodded at him, “it’s just you called me Lia.”
“Oh, am I not allowed? It’s just you said to Momo that’s what your friends call you and we’re friends right?”
A warmth spread through her chest at Aang so nonchalantly calling her his friend, she was Fire Nation and apart from Ria, had never really had friends that weren’t themselves from the Fire Nation as well so this meant a lot to her.
Realising she hadn’t replied back to him yet, she gave him a small smile, “Yeah we’re friends, I just haven’t had someone call me Lia in a while.”
“Well get used to it, travelling with Team Avatar gives you the opportunity for loads of friends! It’s one of the best parts!” He gave her a thumbs up before turning to look at the Water Tribe siblings who had been watching the interaction silently, and when Aang subtly indicated they should do something, they both smiled at their new acquaintance. And even though their smiles looked more like grimaces, y/n felt just a little more accepted into the group than she was this morning and that was enough for her.
She turned back to Aang, answering his original question from before she’d gotten sidetracked “well we should help set up camp first but then we can play a game if you want?”
“Yep sounds great!”
It didn’t take long for the four of them to set up a small camp, Sokka going off into the trees surrounding them to collect some wood for the fire, Aang scouring through the bags for some food for them and her and Katara setting up the tents. It was quiet whilst they completed the task but y/n didn’t mind, it allowed her time to think about all she had already experienced with the Avatar and his companions.
She still avoided thinking too much about the swamp debacle where she saw her mother and the old man, less she become emotional, but the whole Avatar Day situation they’d stumbled into in Chin was much easier to focus on if not confusing in a different way. It was interesting to see a place not associated with the Fire Nation hate the Avatar as much as they did, even if they had their own misguided reasons, but the similarity of misinformation on specific topics between the people of Chin and what was taught in the Fire Nation had struck a chord in her. Obviously, there were still great differences between the situations but it still had affected her more than she had thought it would. And it led her to become more grateful that she had started to push past her previous teachings and learn how much damage the Fire Nation was doing to the rest of the world and all the people in it, especially how it had affected the people she was starting to become close to.
It didn’t take long for the group to finish setting up camp and whilst Katara began cooking, refusing the offer of help from y/n, Aang began his task of having fun and tried to drag his new friend into the game he had planned earlier.
“So it’s called ‘don’t fall in the quicksand’ and basically the first one to touch the floor loses, but you have can try and sabotage your opponent by trying to get them off balance however you can.” Aang briefly explained to her.
“Oh I used to play that when I was younger, except we called it ‘the floor is lava’! And you’re looking at the reigning champion young Avatar.” She smiled teasingly at him whilst she gloated, ignoring the pang in her chest at the thought of her and Zuko playing this in the palace gardens when their parents weren’t around.
“Ha! I’m an airbender Lia, so unless you have a miracle tucked into your tunic you’re going to lose,” he looked over at Sokka to see if he wanted to play as well but he was already shaking his head at the pair.
Y/n chuckled to herself at the Avatar’s confidence, yes he may be an airbender which gives him an incredible advantage, but unfortunately for everyone she has ever known, she had always been unbearably competitive and today was not the day she was going to start losing at a child’s game.
She tied her hair up into a top knot and started walking to the treeline, waiting for Aang to call the start of the game. She didn’t have to wait long before his shout of “QUICKSAND!” was heard across their little camp, she quickly jumped onto the tree beside her and climbed up the trunk to perch on a branch strong enough to hold her weight. Happy with where she was she began looking for where Aang had ended up, only for him to be on a tree on the other side of the clearing, waving at her.
Waving back to him she started figuring out how she could get over to him and get him to touch the floor without herself falling and losing the game.
Unbeknownst to the two already chasing each other through the trees trying to push the other one off, the Water Tribe siblings watched them from their spot next to the campfire. Katara shook her head at the pair, turning back to the food she was preparing and muttering under her breath, “one of them is going to get hurt if they’re not careful and then it will be my problem.”
Sokka turned to look at her from where he had been watching y/n laughing at Aang as she flung a branch at his face so he almost fell off the branch he had been on. “Come on sis they’re having fun, not committing crimes, lighten up.”
She glared at her brother, “She’s Fire Nation Sokka, we know as well as anyone the damage they can do, I still don’t fully trust her - what if this is some plan to capture Aang?”
“Look,” he placed his hand on her shoulder pulling her focus from where she was angrily chopping vegetables, “I agree that we should be wary around her, but honestly from what I’ve seen, she seems to be, I don’t know, a nice person maybe? Definitely not what I expected from someone from the Fire Nation. And at the end of the day if there was some ridiculous plan to capture Aang, I’m not sure it would involve playing games with the Avatar.”
The pair looked up at the trees again to see y/n throwing some sort of berry at Aang’s face in quick succession, momentarily blinding him before kicking at his ankles so he fell of the low branch he had been standing on, and before he realised what had happened he had touched the ground and the Fire Nation girl was hooting in victory in the trees above him.
Sokka gave a small smile at the site and turned to his sister, finishing off what he wanted to say, “I’m just saying I think we should maybe give her a chance to prove herself and earn our trust before we decide she doesn’t deserve it. I’m thinking of asking her to teach me some of the fighting tactics she knows tomorrow, maybe if she offers to help you with dinner tomorrow you could let her? And actually try and talk to her if you do - we’re a team and Aang seems to already loves her so we could try and do the same?”
Katara thought to herself for a moment before nodding at her brother, wondering what she could even talk to their new companion about given the opportunity.
As they made their way back to the campfire, Aang laughed at how happy his new friend was at winning their game, even if he was surprised in her victory - he had never lost at that game before, but there was always a first time for everything and maybe if she was happy about this she’d start feeling more welcome in the group. He may have been the youngest here but he could still see how tense the others were around each other and he wanted to fix it.
———
Dinner that night was a quiet affair, everyone just happy to not having their lives threatened or experiencing something insane for once, and instead just enjoying the quiet world around them. Once they had finished, Katara got up to start clearing everything away, and when y/n offered her help, there was a small moment of hesitation before she nodded at her, taking Sokka’s advice of trying to give her a chance.
Y/n was pleased when Katara allowed her to help, sitting next to her when she used her water bending to clean the dishes and y/n dried them up. It would’ve been even quicker if she could have used her fire bending to dry the dishes but she was still not ready to reveal that bit of herself.
As they finished their task Katara turned to her, “Um, I was wondering why your nickname was Lia? If it’s alright to ask?”
She smiled at the water bender, “Yeah of course. It started with my mum actually, my favourite flower was always the camellia flower, so she’d always call me ‘her little camellia’, and then enough people heard it and started calling me Lia, or Little Lia at the time,” she smiled at the memories of the people who loved her and who she had lost, “But yeah after a while Lia just stuck and it makes me feel closer to my mum I guess.”
Katara had felt enough pain at her own mother dying that she recognised the glassy look in y/n’s eyes as she recalled her mum, and she felt herself softening towards the older girl, reaching out she squeezed the Fire Nation girl’s shoulder, “I understand, since my mum died I’ve worn her necklace to feel closer to her. It’s the small things I guess.”
Y/n nodded at the girl, giving her a shy smile, “The small things.”
Feeling some of the tension between the pair dissipate, they both made their way back to where the boys were sitting feeling slightly lighter, Momo launching himself at his new favourite member as soon as they were sat down, cherishing the warmth her body emitted as a fire bender.
It didn’t take long until the events of the past few days caught up with the group and they all fell asleep, the embers of the fire casting a small glow over their campsite.
———
Sokka woke up with a groan, he had never been a morning person and living on the road with the constantly happy and chatty Avatar was something that he suspected he’d never get used to. Not to mention their new companion was somehow always awake early as well and would also chat to said boy - it was all just a lot in the mornings. He looked over to the Avatar himself and witnessed him trying to flirt with his sister in his own weird way, somehow getting her to agree to go exploring with him for the day.
That left him with y/n for the day, and he was hoping to ask her to teach him some combat skills, if he actually got the nerves to ask. He’d already been impressed with her skill with a blade on numerous occasions and even if just a few months ago he would’ve turned his nose up at her teaching him anything due to the fact she was a girl, his time with Suki had started changing his mind then and he’d since been proven wrong multiple times. So all he had to do was ask, that wouldn’t be so hard would it?
It turned out it was that hard. He was being ridiculous he knew but as he watched her practice her forms next to the stream - the perfect time to him to ask for some pointers, he was well aware of this - he just couldn’t bring himself to ask.
So instead he watched. She looked calm as she went through her movements, the sun shining on her dark curls, as she span and lunged with no weapon in her hand, a true warrior even with no sword in her hand. He hated to admit, especially because he knew he should be wary of her, but he was starting to admire her, not just for her skills in combat but she was already good friends with Aang and maybe even starting to gain Katara’s trust if their relaxed attitude towards each other last night was any indication - and that in itself was nothing short of a miracle. But other than that she was pretty. She was really pretty, and Sokka couldn’t help but notice it anytime the firelight danced in her eyes or she laughed at one of Aang’s dumb jokes, or sometimes his dumb jokes, and it was beginning to annoy him. Why after everything, after Yue, did he start thinking a Fire Nation girl was pretty? It was stupid and he shook himself out of his thoughts and started walking towards her before he could psyche himself out of his plan.
“Hi,” y/n opened her eyes and raised a questioning eyebrow at the Water Tribe boy who had interrupted her morning forms, “I, um, was wondering, if you’d be able to teach me some sword skills or something I don’t know - it’s just I feel like I need to know more than just my trusty boomerang and you are you know, um, really good with a sword and you could help me? Maybe, if you want, if you don’t want to you don’t have to. Please stop me from talking.”
She couldn’t help but laugh a little at how flustered he had gotten trying to ask her for help - it was kinda cute and she smiled as he avoided her eyes.
“I can teach you somethings if you want, although can’t say I’ll be a good teacher, if you get hurt I’m not taking the blame when Katara gets annoyed at us.” She joked, pleased with herself when Sokka gave her a hopeful smile.
“Yeah I would like that, and don’t you worry my sister knows I’m to blame in any and all accidents, she’s had practice dealing with me for years.”
“Okay well we can start off with the basic defensive forms if that’s alright with you?” He nodded at her, glad he’d gotten over himself and asked - hopefully if he learnt a lot from her over time he’d no longer feel useless when Team Avatar found themselves in dangerous situations.
They went over the numerous defence stances for hours until the sun was at the highest point in the sky and they declared it was time to have a break, both of them lying down on the hard ground, a comfortable silence enveloping between themselves.
Y/n was busy thinking about how she’d initially been taught her combat skills to better help Sokka when her thoughts were interrupted by the older boy himself.
“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, but I’ve been thinking about that dumb swamp, and was wondering what was it you saw when we were in there? Again you don’t have to answer if I’m being too nosey.”
She turned to look at him, making eye contact briefly before she lay on her back once again, debating whether she wanted to talk about it or not.
Silence stretched between them, and just as Sokka thought he had been too inconsiderate in his questioning, she spoke.
“I saw my mother.”
She could feel Sokka tense slightly beside her before facing her fully, her eyes remained on the sky above her, the clouds moving across it in various shapes, calming her down.
“She died a few years ago now, there was this illness in our city, it claimed a lot of lives but that didn’t make it any less painful when I lost her I guess, and my father-“ she took in a sharp breath at the thought of him, “none of us took it well and seeing her in that swamp, I just wasn’t ready for it.”
Sokka watched as she wiped a stray tear with her hand and was getting ready to say something to her before she continued speaking.
“But that wasn’t the worst of it. I… I touched her shoulder so I could see her face for the first time in so long, I wanted to make sure I still remembered it you know? But when she turned around it wasn’t her anymore.”
There were lots of tears falling down her cheeks now, as she remembered what she’d seen, but she continued telling the silent boy beside her, hoping that talking about it would make things easier.
“Instead of my mother it was a man who I… hurt a few years ago. It’s the thing I’m most ashamed of and it was why I left the Fire Nation actually, it’s just seeing his face and remembering what I did, even though at the time I didn’t want to, it was just too much.”
She sniffed turned to look at Sokka again, scared but curious as to how he would react to her admission, even if it wasn’t a full admission, but she needed to know that he didn’t suddenly hate her.
He leant over and wiped a tear of the cheek closest to him, “Thank you, for telling me, I’m not sure it’ll make you feel better but the person I’ve learnt you to be is not someone who would willingly hurt others, so to me, you’re not a bad person, and this does not change that opinion at all.”
She hiccuped, feeling a small weight off her shoulders even if he did not know the whole story he didn’t think she was a monster and that was enough for now. She went to reply to him when their moment was broken by the arrival of Aang and Katara from their little adventure, happily chatting away and asking about lunch. Y/n gave Sokka one last smile, wiped away the rest of her tears and went to greet Aang, trying to listen to him whilst he spoke about a mile a minute about the animals they’d seen.
———
That night, after dinner had been eaten and cleared up, there was, for the first time since y/n had joined the group, a nice and relaxed atmosphere surrounding the group and it stayed that way until they departed their small campsite the next day. Their break was over and now the hunt for Aang’s earth bending teacher was back on the schedule.

For the ask meme - 📝, 🌈 (Petrichor), and 💋 (I like the songs you recommend for You Are the Snow, do you have any other playlists for your fics?)
Fanfic ask game
📝 What is one growth area you have for your writing?
I really want to expand my vocabulary. I feel like I use the same words and phrases over and over again, so I'm trying to get into the habit of using a thesaurus and dictionary while I'm writing so I can find words that I feel more accurately convey what I'm trying to get across. However, it's easier said than done when when I get into a rhythm while writing and don't want to break it for the fear of losing my 'flow' ... if you can call it that XD
🌈 What inspired you to write Petrichor?
Well, aside from it being Hitsuhina Week and being excited for the anime's return (and with it, seeing Hyourinmaru's Completed Form animated), I was initially inspired after looking through the old Hitsuhina Week submissions and I came across one of the past themes used in the event: Petrichor. An image flashed through my mind of Toshiro carrying Momo while flying against the rain, both of them injured and looking weary but determined.
Those who have been following this blog for years will know I keep coming back to the same scenario when it comes to the Completed Form: how would Momo react to seeing Toshiro like that? Time and again I've written fics about how it would go down, but this time I wanted to try a different question: how would she react to seeing the powers of the Form? This question inspired the rest of the fic, and now here we are.
💋 [Freeform] (I like the songs you recommend for You Are the Snow, do you have any other playlists for your fics?)
Glad you liked it! For a lot of the fics I write I have a selection of songs I listen to on repeat while writing; it helps me get 'in the zone' to write and to determine the mood or atmosphere of the fic. I I only recommend the music I used while writing if I feel it would [hopefully] enhance the reading experience, otherwise I hope readers can enjoy whatever I write with whatever music they feel is right.
In most cases I listen to 5-10 songs, but some have had less and only a few have had more. I'll list three playlists I've had in the past, one for a calmer fic and the other two for stories involving a more action and drama, hopefully you like them as well:
It's All in the Name - Momo discovers how cold Toshiro’s hands are, while Toshiro discovers what a friend is.
In the Forests of Tamriel by Jeremy Soule
Recollection I from BLEACH: The DiamondDust Rebellion
Going Home from BLEACH
The True Will Reprised - As Momo heals Omaeda and Soi Fon, the battle between Giselle and the Shinigami gets too close. What will she do when discovers her most trusted friend has become an unwilling enemy?
Nightmare from BLEACH: The DiamondDust Rebellion
No Regresar from BLEACH
Guitar III from BLEACH: The DiamondDust Rebellion
Last Theater by Noisycell
Kokodu from Death Note
Le Chant de Roma from Akame ga Kill
Petrichor - Toshiro is forced to transform into the Hyourinmaru's Completed Form when a battle to protect a town in the World of Living from Huge Hollows turns dire, and Momo comes to understand the magnitude of her friend's powers.
Red Sam (Demo) by Flyleaf
Feudal Society from BLEACH: The DiamondDust Rebellion
Encirclement Battle from BLEACH: The DiamondDust Rebellion
Bury the Light from Devil May Cry V (because, come on, I can't be the only one who thinks 'I am the storm that is approaching' can be applied to Hitsugaya and the Completed Form as well)
This Light I See from BLEACH Beats Collection
Existence (e.piano) and Existence (Piano) from Clannad
Piano Aquieu by Stars of the Lid
To the Same Heights from Clannad
She Lit a Fire by Lord Huron
Thank you for sending these in! :D

Trainers
Tumblr media
Owen Grady x Reader
Summary: You are the trainer of the Mosasaurus, you have been working with her since she was a tiny little thing. So, you don’t appreciate when another trainer is asked to check on the work you have been doing.
You understood that Claire wanted results. But they never understood that a creature such as a dinosaur is not as easy to train as a dog. Nevertheless, when the owner of the park specifically asked for you to be the caretaker of the Mosasaurus, you just knew you had to accept. Being a well respected Marine Biologist in your field, you loved the different challenge this would bring. Although you had to do a lot of studying. You would normally focus on a lot of species, so only having to deal with one animal was quite different.
When you first saw her, you knew, you understood just how special she really was and you fell in love with the tiny being. Well, back then she was the size of an alligator, but then she grew into her normal size. She got huge. Even her tank spoke to itself.
Momo was chosen to do one of trick for the public. To eat a shark from a hook, splashing water onto the crowd. You knew she wasn’t a circus animal. You understood that, but since you two spent so much time together, a bond formed between you two. And you were more than surprised when she listened to you.
One late night you were sitting by her tank, looking at her as she swam around. This was all she knew, the water, the hook and you. You often went to the Underwater Observatory where you can look into her tank through the glass. You spoke to her days on end as you just sat there after you finished with your work for the day.
And one day, it happened.
Just like a dolphin show, you were talking and motioning around and when you moved your hand up as an expression, she jumped out of the water. The very first instant this happened, you didn’t pay much mind to it, thinking it was a coincidence. But then she did it again and again. Just as you lifted your hand up each time.
Progress.
Of course, you were to report every incident, but you chose not to tell them about this new revelation. You were afraid they will exploit her for money even more.
So, as you never reported any progress, Claire decided to send another trainer in.
Owen Grady.
He was supposed to look at your work for a month. You hated being supervised like that.
“Mr. Grady, nice to meet you, my name is Y/N Y/L/N. I’m Momo’s caretaker.”
“Please just call me Owen. To be honest I’m as happy to be here as you are. I’d rather be with my girls, so please just give me a quick run through, so I can leave.”
“Okay...But, Owen. Claire said that you are to watch me for a month.”
“A MONTH? She didn’t mention that to me. Or I wasn’t listening. Probably the latter.” he made you laugh a little. Maybe it was better that he was the one who was sent and not some uptight ass.
“Alright. So, it’s hard to miss her tank, or her. She eats a lot. There are public feedings, every two hour she gets a shark. I have been with her since she was born. Little thing she was. She is very stubborn, but I did hand feed her in her early years. She gave me a lovely scar too. From my wrist to my pinky on my left hand.” you showed him the scar. “Silly mistake. But I learned from it.”
“Do you talk to her?”
“I do. Steve thinks I’m mental, since she is under water, she wouldn’t hear. But I like to think that she somehow feels that I talk to her you know?”
He nodded and looked around, then up. He noticed a long walking platform way up high.
“What’s that?” you looked up where he was looking.
“That is the new idea. Guests would be able to go up there and watch her from there. But they are not sure if she can jump that high, so it’s still not very safe. Although I told them that she wouldn’t be able to, they want to be safe. We can go up if you want to.”
You hated being up there, your fear of heights didn’t help you either.
“You okay there?” Owen asked as he watched you taking deep breaths and your hands gripping the railing.
“No. I hate it up here.”
“Then why did you suggest to come up?” he laughed.
“I don’t know. It was silly. Can you see her?”
“Yes. She is...swimming. Shockingly. She is 84 feet long and she weights over 30,000 lbs, when the last time we checked. She is rather calm. Prefers to swim around and eats when she is supposed to. She is not socialized with other dinos, considering that the majority would drown in her enclosure. Can we go down now, please?”
Owen stood there, looking at the huge water monster swimming right below him. Then he looked up at you, and gave you a nod.
***
Owen has been working with you for the last week. He gave many ideas on what to do and how to earn their trust.
You also didn’t fail to notice how muscular and handsome he was.
Each morning he arrived on his bike, looking sexy as can be. And every day he observed you. He watched as you said hi to her every morning, said how you liked to make sure her food was correctly prepared. It was obvious for him that you cared about the Mosasaurus very much.
Owen wasn’t sure what else they wanted from the dino himself, He knew they created her as an amusement for viewers as a feeding show and nothing more. So, then why did Claire wanted him to come here and watch over you. As far as he was concerned, this particular dino wasn’t even the need of a caretaker. She just swam around and ate sharks as an attraction. He suspected there was something more behind the story he had been told.
Owen admittedly loved the Underwater Observatory. It was cool down there, not only the weather, but they you can look into the enclosure and watch the majestic beast.
He also took a liking to it’s trainer. Even if he wasn’t sure what you were training the dino to do.
“How about tomorrow you come over to the raptors? I can show them off for you like you did with Momo.” Owen came up with the idea on his second week during lunch time.
“Oh, sure. I would like to.” Little did he know that you showed the very least to him.
During his two weeks, Owen and you formed some kind of friendship. You would be lying if you said that you didn’t like him, even if you knew about the rumors about his dating methods. But he never once hinted on anything with you. Or you just didn’t notice. Which was also a possibility, you were quite oblivious with men.
So, the next day after making sure that Momo was all set and healthy, we headed to the raptors.
Although I wasn’t that interested in land species, his four girls amazed you.
“Wow. they listen to you so well.” you said smiling at him as you watched the four inside the paddock.
Owen looked very proud of himself.
You spent all day at the velociraptor paddock. Owen told you about the plans that they had. And it was exactly what you feared would happen to your girl.
Exploiting them for military or personal gain.
The thought disgusted you.
These were amazing creatures. In your opinion you should be learning from them, and not using them for war.
In the evening, everyone has left, you and Owen were still at the raptors’ paddock. You looked down at them running around.
“I don’t want Momo to have the same fate. Military? Really? That’s what we are doing now? These creatures are amazing, beautiful. Even the fact that we keep them on display is rather disgusting let alone using them as weapons.”
“I agree with you. But I can also see how they would be able to save many lives. Men and women.”
“But they will never be able to control them like that. Not by their own free will. It takes time. You have known them since they were little. Momo is... she is basically an attraction to them, nothing more. They wanted me to each her tricks. Like she was a fucking pony. Jumping through loops and whatnot. And when I refused, they threatened to throw me out. So, I had to come up with something. Telling them that she is not able to do such things. Even if it’s a lie.” you eyes widened at what you just said. You just confessed your greatest secret.
“What do you mean lie? So, she can jump?” you panicked a little but his calm demeanor helped you a little.
“S-She can. Not as high as those railings go but...She can. Oh, Owen, please don’t tell Claire. They will make her into a complete circus animal, more than she already is.” you didn’t even realize but you were so desperate that you grabbed his forearm, pleading with him.
“I won’t. I promise. I decided on my second day over there that I will tell her that you are taking a good care of her and that a Mosasaurus is not a dolphin you can teach tricks to. But I’m clearly wrong. Could you show me?”
You were soon standing by her tank. Owen looked down at the water.
“I never understood. If she can get the shark from there, why doesn’t she jump out to get the guests?”
“Well, one, they are too small, so she is not interested and two, her species main food source comes from the water or from above such as flying dinosaurs. But as you can see her water is lower than the path, they made this safe so she wouldn’t jump out and eat guests.”
“I see. So how does this work? I don’t guess that you whistle to her.” Owen said as he stood next to you.
“No. I just...” it was easier to show him, so you reached your hand out as far as you could before moving it up.
And just as you did, she jumped out of the water and back in, as elegantly as a dino of her size possibly could.
“Wow.” Owen watched as the water splashed neither of you cared that you were soaked.
“One night. I was talking to her. And as I moved my hand, she started doing things. She can also spin, but that looked better down under the water.”
“She listens to you.”
“I like to think that if I was to fall into the water one day, she won’t eat me immediately, but I might be too naïve.” Owen looked at you and all he could think is how beautiful you looked.
“This really is something else. You must have an amazing bond.” you smiled at Owen who got your now soaked wet hair out of your face. He slowly leaned down and was about to place his lips on yours when another sudden splash of water interrupted him. He groaned and as he looked down at the water noticed Momo slowly descending into the water.
You only laughed at the annoyed expression on Owen’s face.
“Maybe take me on a date first, Mr. Grady, I think then she will approve.” you said as he finally looked back at you.
His eyes softened.
Maybe you will thank Claire later for sending Owen over. Who could have thought that two trainers would find each other on an island like that?

A Child! No. (Izuku Midoriya x Reader)
Synopsis: You’re hit by a quirk that causes you to become a child so it's up to 1-A and your crush, Izuku Midoriya, to take care of you.
Notes: Y/N is gender neutral and has a plant quirk. The quirk isn't going to be that important so it's not really going to be emphasized.
“Y/N!” Izuku called out, searching the crowd of pro-heros and their interns to find you. You had interned with Kamui Woods to learn how to fight offensively using plants and had been sent to fight a low ranking villain with your mentor as training. Izuku had gotten a call saying that there was an problem and that you needed to be picked up. I hope they're alright, he thought as he raced to find you.
“Over here!” A voice called out with a raise of their hand. Racing over, Izuku saw Kamui Woods sitting alongside what looked to be a shorter, smaller version of you.
“Y/N? Wha-”
“They were hit with a time reverting quirk that causes the person hit to be reverted into any age.” He explained. “Unfortunately, Y/N doesn't show signs of remembering what they were doing or their life as a student. Based on what I've heard while talking with them, it seems that they think they're 6.”
“How long will this last? Are there any other issues? Are they hurt anywhere else? Do they remember you? Will they remember me?" Izuku fretted as he glanced at your small form hiding behind Kamui Woods. His anxiety grew as he thought of all the horrible things that could've happened to you. A warm gloved hand cupped his tense shoulder reassuringly.
“Don't worry Midoriya. It was a relatively small villain. Their quirk just seemed to revert people for about 2 days so it'll wear off soon. You just need to watch over them for a bit at the dorms and everything will go back to normal soon.” Kamui Woods said, calming the worried Izuku down. Izuku's shoulder's sagged as he exhaled. A few more words were exchanged, Kamui Woods left you in Izuku's care. You were still scared, choosing to hide behind your hair with your knees to your chest.
“Hi Y/N, I'm Izuku Midoriya, your classmate! I know you're scared, but it’s okay. I'm here to help you and take you back to your home.” Izuku said softly, careful not to scare you.
He saw you slowly peek at him through your hair which made him give you a dazzling smile. He noticed how your body seemed to lose it's tension and took it as a sign that you were beginning to trust him.
“I'm going to take you back to the dorms okay?” Izuku asked gently, reaching out his hand for your to grab. He saw you hesitate for a bit, looking at his hand and at him. The feeling of your small, albeit chubby hand sliding into his rough calloused one caused his face to light up as he helped you down from your chair. He gently picked you up after asking for your permission, which you consented to, and briskly walked back to the campus which wasn't very far away. During the walk, you had started to drift off after being held in his arms, his steps a constant rhythm that lulled you to dreamland. He let out a soft chuckle at you tucking your head closer to the crook of his neck. The soft hairs on your head tickling him a bit. Arriving in front of the doors of the dorm, he quietly slipped in, trying not to wake you. How adorable.
“Hey Deku, what- who’s child is that??” Uraraka gasped, alerting some of the other classmates and prompting them to walk over.
“Shh-” Izuku shushed quickly, but it was too late. Your tiny hands rubbed your eyes as you woke up, droopy eyes staring at Izuku and then staring at the teenagers surrounding you. Alarmed by the amount of strangers, your small hands gripped Izuku's shirt as you stared at them, your body tensing in fear.
“S-scared.” You said shakily at all the people surrounding you. Forming a proper sentence was above your abilities when you were met with immense fear. From your point of view, there were a lot of really tall and scary looking big kids that surrounded you. Trying your best to not be intimidated, you grabbed onto the only person who you were familiar with, which was Izuku, for support. Still trying to stay strong in the face of fear, your small self tried really hard not to cry in the face of potential danger.
“G-guys back up!” Izuku said hurriedly, rubbing your back as you hid yourself in his shoulder. The others quickly stepped back, giving you and Izuku space as he cooed and tried to calm you down. Seeing that your eyes started to clear, Izuku let out a sigh of relief. Seeing your watery eyes and fearful state caused his heart to squeeze painfully. He never wanted to see you make that kind of expression again. Gently turning you so that you could comfortably look at the others and being able to hide yourself, he patted your back gently as you analyzed the people watching you curiously.
Taking the initiative, Izuku told everyone to introduce themselves as he sat you down on the couch.
“They don't remember us? What happened?” Uraraka asked worriedly.
“They were hit with a quirk that causes them to revert back to a random age. Kamui Woods said that it'll wear off in about 2 days.”
There was a low murmur of chatter as they talked about the situation among themselves. Feeling a bit uncomfortable at all the people staring at you, you slouched a bit, wrapping your arms around yourself. Seeing this, Izuku smiled reassuringly and put a hand on top of your head.
“Hi Y/N! My name is Mina!” Mina said smiling. Feeling less scared at her bubbly words, your eyes lit up as you looked at her curiously.
“Wanna see something cool?” She asked. You nodded eagerly. Mina formed finger-guns and aimed at a nearby empty water bottle.
“Pew!” She said cheerfully, a glob of thick mucus looking substance flying through the air and landing on top of the bottle's cap. Soon a sizzling noise filled the air as the bottle bubbled down, the acid burning it away.
“Wow.” You whispered quietly. Everyone else started clapping jokingly to break the tenseness. Feeling a bit braver, you clapped along smiling. Everyone noticed your lack of fear and started to introduce themselves.
“Hi! I'm Uraraka!”
“Shoto Todoroki.”
“Hi! I'm Momo.”
“Hi Y/N! I'm Eijiro Kirishima!”
“Hey, I'm Sero"
“Denki!”
...
After getting to know everyone's names, you found yourself trusting them a bit more and opening up. Shoto liked to watch from afar, but found himself making small ice sculptures for you to marvel at. Momo, Hagakure, Jirou, Uraraka, and Mina dressed you up in cute outfits, courtesy of Momo's creation quirk. You then had tea time with Sato and Koda where you enjoyed snacking on treats. Denki, Sero, Kirishima, and Bakugo showed you how to play video games, but you were pulled away by Izuku after Bakugo started raging at the snickering Denki and Sero. Tokoyami showed you Dark Shadow who you enjoyed petting, laughter ringing through the air as you giggled. Ojiro let you pet his tail and Aoyama showed you his cheese collection, even letting you sample some. By the time you had played with everyone, it was late so Izuku excused you and him to take you to rest. Waving goodbye at everyone, you felt the fatigue catch up to you as you slumped in Izuku’s arms.
Izuku carefully set your small body in your bed and sat next to you.
“Did you have fun today Y/N?” He asked smiling.
“Yeah... I had a lot of fun.” You said quietly. “Hey Izuku... Can I draw something on you really quick?”
Izuku hummed and nodded. He watched curiously as you reached for an erasable marker and uncapped it. He saw your hands stretch to reach for his face, so he lowered his head to your height. Quietly smiling, he saw your adorable eyebrows furrow in concentration as you drew. They are so cute. Soon, you stopped and let out a satisfied huff. Grabbing a hand mirror, Izuku stared at his doodled on face. Constellations like the Big Dipper were drawn on his face, his freckles acting like the stars and the marker connecting them.
“Wow Y/N! This is beautiful! Thank you!” Izuku said cheerily, not noticing how you flushed a bit.
“I read about constellations in a book with Momo earlier. I thought of you and how pretty you look with freckles.” You mumbled bashfully. Izuku did a double take. You thought he was pretty with his freckles?
“Oh and this is for you... I'm really thankful that the older me got to meet someone as amazing as you Izuku. While I am still a kid, I still have these strange feelings when I look at you. I think it's how the older me felt when looking at you, so I did what I felt like older me wanted to do. I hope you will accept this.”
Izuku looked down and saw you holding out a small handful of flowers. You must have used your quirk to get them for him. He was touched by your actions. Realizing how you truly felt with your honest words as a child, he felt his heart flutter. Accepting them, he showed you his sparkling smile.
“Thank you Y/N!”
...
After two days, you turned back into a teenager and everyone welcomed you back happily, sort of missing your adorable child side, but happy to see you back to normal. Izuku approached you, blushing, and held out his hand that held a flower bouquet. Understanding what he was silently asking, you smiled, taking the bouquet and hugged him as the class cheered.

scars and swords: chapter 3

When they decide to leave the vigilante life behind and move to Ba Sing Sei, they’re reunited with the Gaang and things take an unexpected twist.

a/n: thank you all again for all the support on this fic, it means so much to me! i hope you all enjoy how the story goes this chapter, i tried to keep the angst up as always. now that i’m posting my work i’ve set myself on a higher standard so i may post chapters late, mainly because i’m starting to get more critical on myself and it takes me time to feel fully satisfied with a chapter. but again, thank you all so so much for reading and for all your feedback! enjoy!
Tumblr media
The whole way back to the hideout Y/N couldn’t stop replaying her and Jet’s fight in her head. After the Fire Nation burned down their village, Y/N had no one else but Jet. They had each other’s support and love. And now, the one person Y/N had left had told her to leave his life.
“Mom, dad! Where are you?” Y/N said as she walked into her Earth kingdom home. “I just got back from Jet’s house.” She walked further into her home. Y/N heard voices from the bedroom. She crept closer as she noticed Fire Nation soldiers interrogating her parents. Thankfully for her, they hadn’t noticed she walked in.
“We know there’s an Earthbender in this village. You can’t hide them forever.” The Fire Nation soldier said as he burst a flame from his fist and shot it slightly over her father’s head. Her mother and father sat on the small bed, fear in their eyes. Y/N’s father held up his hands in a forfeit.
“We don’t know who it is, we swear!” He said, “Just please, spare my family.” He put his arm around Y/N’s mother as they both bowed their heads. The Fire Nation soldier shot another flame, this time, directly towards Y/N’s parents’ feet, burning them. Y/N screamed when she saw this and quickly covered her mouth. The Fire Nation soldier turned his head to Y/N, smiling.
“Well, look what we have here.” He said as he walked towards the 7-year-old. Y/N started running away from him, but the soldier was able to catch up to her and stand in front of her. He pulled her arms and brought her to where her parents were. She sat next to her mother as tears rolled down Y/N’s face. The two Fire Nation soldiers stood in front of the family.
“Looks like we’re going to have to burn this village down. But at least the family will be together,” The soldier said in a mocking tone. They both laughed and shot fire blasts all around the room, running out. Y/N’s mother and father covered her with their bodies.
“We’re going to get you out of here, Y/N.” Y/N’s father said as he lifted her up. He pushed her out the window. Right as she made it out of the house, the flames grew and caused the roof of her house to come down. Y/N jumped back, but her arm got caught by a flame, scalding her arm. She screamed as she realized her parents were stuck in the fire.
“Y/N move back!” Jet said as he pulled her up and away from the burning house. The two kids ran further into the forest, away from the fire. Y/N kept looking back at the village, crying.
“Our parents, Jet, our parents!” She said while trying to pull back from Jet’s grip. He held her back, putting his arm around her to calm her down.
“I know, Y/N but we can’t do anything about it now. Pull it together.” He said as he turned her to face him. Tears were rolling down both of their faces. He noticed the burn on Y/N arm.
“Did they do this to you?!” Jet said angrily. Y/N shook her head.
“I got it when I was climbing out of the house.” She said as she raised her arm to look at it. Her skin was peeling and red, but she couldn’t feel much pain. Nothing could distract her from what she had just witnessed.
“I’ll protect you from now on. No one and nothing will ever hurt you again. We will always have each other. You will always have me, Y/N.” Jet said with a serious tone. He wiped his tears as he pulled her into an embrace. The two of them stood at the edge of the forest, watching their village and their parents getting burned to the ground.
The sounds of traps going off startled Y/N as she looked around the forest. Pipsqueak and Smellerbee were caught in traps while Sokka ran away from them. Y/N ran towards Sokka.
“Sokka, wait!” She said as she wiped her tears from her face. He began running further away from her. Y/N didn’t hesitate to match his speed.
“Get away from me!” He yelled as he pulled his boomerang out, threatening to throw it at her.
“I’m not going to capture you, Sokka.” She said as she ran closer to him. He slowed his running until he came to a stop. Y/N ran up and caught up to him, standing in front of him. He put his boomerang away.
“I don’t know if I can trust you enough to believe that.” He said, crossing his arms. Y/N sighed and rubbed her arm.
“You have every right to say that. I was dishonest about Jet and this plan. I’m really sorry about it. I knew about the plan and I should’ve stopped Jet.” She paused for a moment and looked down. “I guess I just got caught up in my feelings for him. It screwed up my judgment. And because of that, that entire Earth Kingdom village is going to die.” She sighed. Sokka looked at her with pity.
“That’s not true, we still have time to save them. We can evacuate the village.” He said with hope. She looked up to him and smiled. They both headed down to the village, which thankfully wasn’t too far from where they were.
------
After evacuating the village, they headed back to the hideout. Jet, Katara, Aang, and the rest of the Freedom Fighters were nowhere to be found.
“Looks like they’re still at the reservoir. I’ll be back, then we’ll head to the reservoir to meet them.” Y/N said as she began going up to her hut.
“I’ll get Appa,” Sokka said as he headed out of the forest. Y/N gave him a strange look, but before she could ask who or what Appa was he had left.
Evacuating the village gave her time to forget about her fight with Jet, but now she realized she had to leave. Leaving the Freedom Fighters and Jet was the last thing she thought she would ever do. They were all her family, and regardless of everything Jet would put them through Y/N still loved him and every single Freedom Fighter.
When Y/N had gotten her stuff, she headed back down the treehouse. Sokka noticed how she was carrying her bag and gave her a confused look.
“Why do you need all your stuff?” He said. Y/N’s eyes widened at the sky bison before her.
“What is that?!” She said as she pointed to the fuzzy creature. Sokka smiled.
“This is Appa, Aang’s flying bison,” Sokka said as he pet Appa’s arm. Y/N walked up toward Appa. She reached her arm out to pet him when something jumped on her head. She yelped and moved back, which caused Sokka to burst into laughter. Y/N squinted her eyes at him.
“And this is Momo,” Sokka said as the winged lemur sat on Appa’s saddle. Sokka climbed onto Appa and reached his arm out to Y/N.
“Wait, are we getting to the reservoir on that?” Y/N said as she stared at Sokka’s extended arm.
“What? You have a fear of heights or something?” Sokka said, mockingly. Y/N rolled her eyes at him as she grabbed his arm. She put her stuff in the saddle as Sokka went up to the front to control Appa’s reins. Momo curled himself next to Y/N as she settled into the saddle.
“Appa, yip yip,” Sokka said as he led the sky bison into the air. Y/N looked down from the saddle as they began to ascend. She was so amazed. Her awe was interrupted by Sokka.
“You didn’t answer my question,” Sokka said to her. Y/N sighed as she leaned into the saddle on her arms.
“Jet and I kind of got into a huge fight. He basically told me to leave, so.” She said as she shrugged her shoulders. Sokka furrowed his brows.
“Why did he do that?” He asked. Y/N was silent for a bit causing Sokka to realize he might’ve overstepped. “You don’t have to tell me, I don’t mean to overstep.” He continued. Y/N shook her head.
“No, you didn’t do anything wrong.” She said, reassuring him. “He told me about how you had found out about the plan and I kept telling him how the plan would have messed up. Jet got mad that I kept defending you. He thought I had feelings for you and basically got jealous.” Y/N bit her cheek to hold her tears back as she began reliving what had happened.
“He ended up telling me to leave and go with you guys, saying you would protect me better or something. So I said fine.” Y/N sighed. “Katara and Aang heard everything, but I left before anything else happened.” Sokka took a moment to take it all in.
“I’m sorry about how he got jealous, and I’m sorry I kind of caused that,” Sokka said as he scratched the back of his neck.
“You don’t need to apologize. Jet’s the jealous type, if I talk to Longshot for too long he’ll assume something’s up.” Y/N said to try to lighten the mood. Sokka and her laughed.
“If you don’t mind me asking though, why didn’t you stop Jet sooner about the village?” Y/N looked down in embarrassment.
“Jet and I came from the same village. And when it got burned down, he was all I had. We took care of each other, you know? And for the most part, we both were angry at the Fire Nation.” Y/N winced in embarrassment. “So we kinda did reckless stuff. But as we got older, my mentality changed I guess. I started realizing how we were hurting innocent people. Jet never saw it that way. He still doesn’t.”
“You said something about your feelings though. Towards Jet?” Sokka questioned. Y/N stayed silent for a moment, making Sokka feel like he had overstepped again. Before Sokka could take his statement back, Y/N spoke up.
“As I got older, I guess I also realized I do have feelings for Jet. I’ve always loved him, but now,” Y/N hesitated, then shook her head. “He doesn’t feel the same way though. I know he doesn’t. He constantly leads me on and I’m stupid enough to fall for it.” Y/N’s eyes widened as she realized that Sokka may have had feelings for her, remembering how he had seen her and Jet on the bridge that day and how he kept acting strangely after that. “Spirits, I didn’t mean to just throw all that on you. I know you saw us on the bridge that day and ever since then you had been a bit weird so I figured you had liked me or something.” She bit the inside of her lip. Sokka shook his head.
“No, it was nothing like that.” He said, reassuring her. “I was just intimidated by Jet, to be honest, I didn’t want him thinking I was stealing his girl or whatever.” Y/N let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Sokka continued, “The reason why I stuck around with you so much was that you didn’t seem like Jet. The way you talked to me the first time when we were in the Fire Nation tent versus how Jet talks and acts. I was just kind of disappointed to see you supporting Jet’s ideas sometimes.” Sokka concluded. Y/N couldn’t help but feel hurt after he said that, knowing he was right.
“I know, I,” She paused. “I guess I just love Jet too much sometimes. I don’t want him thinking I don’t appreciate how much he wants to keep me safe and protect me. So I never speak up.”
“You don’t seem like the kind who needs protection though. If you and Jet were in a fight, I’d put my money on you.” Sokka said as he turned around and smiled at her. Y/N looked at him and smiled.
“Thanks, Sokka. I’ve never really opened up to anyone so this helped a lot.” Y/N said to him. Opening up to people was always a challenge for Y/N, but something about Sokka was comforting and made it easy to do.
“Also, since you don’t really have anywhere to go, I trust you. You should join me, Katara and Aang. You’d be a great part of the team. And I know after today, Katara and Aang will trust you again.” Sokka said to her. Before she could respond, they heard a blast. Sokka led Appa above the reservoir. The dam had exploded and water flooded the village. They overheard Katara, Aang, and Jet fighting. Jet was frozen to a tree while Katara turned to face him.
“Jet, you monster!” She yelled to him as her voice began to break.
“This was a victory, Katara. Remember that. The Fire Nation is gone, and this valley will be safe.” Jet said. Before he could continue, Sokka led Appa to the edge of the cliff.
“It will be safe, without you,” Sokka said. Aang and Katara looked at Sokka with relief.
“Sokka!” Katara shouted, relieved to find her brother okay. Y/N peeked her head out from the saddle. Jet was shocked to see her there.
“Y/N.” He said with shock. Y/N looked away from him.
“We warned the villagers of your plan, just in time,” Sokka said as Momo jumped down to Aang’s embrace.
“What?! Y/N you could’ve gotten caught!” Jet said with an astounding look.
“I didn’t go down to the village, Jet. Only Sokka did.” Y/N snapped back.
“At first they didn’t believe me. The Fire Nation soldiers assumed I was a spy. But one man vouched for me, the old man you attacked. He urged everyone to trust me, and we got everyone out in time.” Sokka said. Jet looked to Y/N and back to Sokka.
“Sokka, you fool! We could have freed this valley!” Jet said while Aang jumped onto Appa’s saddle with Momo.
“Who would we free, Jet? Everyone would be dead.” Y/N said, defending Sokka. She looked at Jet in sadness and anger. Jet groaned in frustration.
“You both are traitors!” Jet said angrily, trying to pull himself off of the tree. Y/N looked away from Jet, holding back tears.
“No, Jet. You became the traitor when you stopped protecting innocent people. You became the traitor when you hurt people for Y/N’s namesake.” Sokka spat back. Y/N bit the inside of her lip to prevent her from crying.
“Y/N, please, help me.” He said, giving her a look of helplessness. Y/N looked back at him in remorse and anger. She loved him and she couldn’t leave him like that. Sokka looked to her, her face filled with conflict.
“Y/N, I understand if you want to stay,” Sokka said to her, making sure Jet didn’t hear. She looked to Sokka as she frowned at him.
“I’m sorry, Sokka.” She whispered as she grabbed her stuff off of the saddle, trading places with Katara. Y/N looked back at Katara, Aang, and Sokka. “I can’t just leave him like this.”
“I understand. Just know that if we ever meet again, the invitation still stands.” Sokka said to her, smiling. “Just take care of yourself, please.” With that, Sokka led Appa and the rest of the group into the sky, leaving Jet and Y/N alone on the cliff.

BNHA Rarepair Month - Day 11 - Laughter
for @bnha-rarepair-month
Summary: Tokoyami and Kaminari audition as guitarists for Jirou Kyoka's band. (College/Band AU part 1)
Relationship(s): Tokoyami Fumikage / Kaminari Denki (bromance, arguably) (TokoKami); Tokoyami + Kaminari + Kirishima (TokoDenShima); Jirou + Yaomomo + Bakugou + Shinsou (band!)
Rating: T
Warnings/Notes: ok this is just crack lol
Recommended listening: Master Exploder! Crappy little artwork!
Links: AO3 | FFNet
Tokoyami stares at the computer screen with a deep sense of foreboding as Kaminari looks at him with that crazy, bean-eyed look on his face. “Eh? Eh? Whaddya think of this one, Tokoyami? Think we can get away with a cover of this mind-blowing masterpiece?”
The electric blonde just showed him a rather old video of the eccentric and ageing rock star, Present Mic, on YouTube, back in his early days performing in small-time punk clubs. It consists of a lot of screaming, theatrics, tight pants and deep V-necks, and literal blowing up of electronics when the singer accidentally activates his quirk a number of times during the song. It’s perfectly balanced by the presence of the rock star’s rocking guitarist, one Aizawa Shouta, who grimly provides back-up in the form of tasty licks and surprisingly well-modulated backing vocals.
“Demoniacal,” quoth the raven, putting one of his hands thoughtfully under his chin. “Risky. Little chance of reward to be gained should we pursue this madness.”
There might be a thin line of drool at the end of Kaminari’s mouth as he waits for Tokoyami’s final response. The dark-feathered boy sighs.
“Fine. Let’s do it.” It’s utterly impossible to say no to Kaminari Denki’s face, dopey or not. The blonde whoops in victory.
“Yeah boiii! We are gonna rock their fuckin’ socks off!” He excitedly plays a mindless pentatonic on his canary-yellow Stratocaster with a manic grin on his face. He then peers up at Tokoyami, his eyelashes fluttering cutely. “I love you so much bro! Do you love me too?”
Tokoyami keeps a straight face as he takes his sweet time setting up his own guitar. After a moment of silence, Kaminari still hasn’t stopped fluttering his eyelashes at him. He sighs deeply again.
“Yes,” he relents with a persistent dark aura surrounding him. “I love you too, brother of mine.”
That’s enough for Kaminari to break the silence with another ear-piercing whoop. He’s really serious about channeling Mic-sensei, isn’t he. “Let’s do this, bro! Tokacious Denki (TokoDen for short), at your eargasming service!”
*
Soon, they’re at the edge of the stage of the large auditorium of the chateau belonging to the prominent keyboardist and mechanical engineering major, Yaoyorozu Momo. In the audience next to her are the explosive drummer/biology major, pre-med track student Bakugou Katsuki; band manager/psychology major Shinsou Hitoshi; and the woman they have to impress the most, bassist/vocalist/composer/band leader/music business major, Jirou Kyouka.
At the center of the stage is Kirishima Eijirou, sports sciences major, and one of their closest bros in UA University who wanted to be their hype-man and roadie. Everyone is looking curiously at the redhead as he clears his throat and begins his monologue.
“So… these guys told me not to read this,” Kirishima says, waving a little card with his messy scrawl over it, “But, uh… dammit! I’ll read it anyway! Because I wrote it! And it’s true!”
The band and their manager stares up at the redhead dumbly as he takes out the card. His voice rings out of his mouth and all over the auditorium, “I fucking love this band!!! They are the best band in ever… period!”
The bird sees Bakugou scoff loudly from his seat. Kirishima is undeterred and doesn’t stop shouting. “Ladies and Gentlemen… Tokacious Denki!”
Kirishima then bows with his arms out and side-steps his way off the stage. Kaminari, clad in lots of shiny black leather, confidently ambles up to the microphone, yellow Strat swinging around his scrawny body, with Tokoyami trailing grimly behind him.
“... whey,” the blonde says coolly, making Jirou Kyouka’s eyebrows raise, “This song is a cover of EraserMic’s magnum opus called… Master Exploder.”
There’s barely a quiet interval before Kaminari begins strumming out the first chords of the song. Tokoyami feels a little proud of his bandmate for overcoming his fears over barre chords. Soon, he’s joining him by playing the opening lead with his own guitar. Kaminari begins to sing:
“aaaaaah-aaaaah-aaaaaah-aaahahahahahahahahahah-AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
… well, not really singing, per se, but screaming. The dark bird sees the flustered look on the band members’ faces at the heights that Kaminari’s voice reach. If Tokoyami closed his eyes and listened, he’d be convinced that the person screaming next to him is actually Present Mic.
He certainly has the theatrics down, at least.
The blonde dramatically kicks down the mic stand after he screams with all of his might, and moves on to sing, “I DO NOT NEED!”
“He does not need.”
“A MICROPHONE!”
“A microphone.”
“MY VOICE IS FUCKING!”
“Fuckin’."
“POWERFUUUUUUUL!!!” Kaminari inhales loudly as he continues strumming madly on his guitar. “AAAAAAAAAH YEAH!”
Tokoyami plays the next notes with ease, his fingers flying over the fretboard of his guitar. He sees Yaoyorozu discreetly appraising his riff with a small smile on her face.
As they rehearsed before, this is the part where Kirishima comes running up to the stage to stand next to Kaminari and dramatically stare him down as the blonde continues to scream, “aaa-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”
The voice is so shrill, it pierces through everyone like a shockwave. Kirishima flails about like his brain has exploded and pretends to drop dead on the stage.
“Sorry!” Kaminari says, not looking sorry at all. He directs his manic grin back to the flustered audience and continues the song. “I DID NOT MEAN--”
“He did not mean.”
“--TO BLOW YOUR MIND!”
“To blow your mind,” Tokoyami whispers to the microphone, earning him an interested stare from the manager Shinsou.
“BUT THAT SHIT HAPPENS TO ME, all the tiiiime!”
They do a rather complex guitar duel right there and then. He sees all the band members watch them intently. Jirou’s trademark earjacks are twitching. She seems to be hiding her mouth behind her hands, which formed a tent in front of her face. He knows that they’re judging the two of them very, very seriously.
“Now take a look!”
“Take a look,”
“Tell me what do you see?”
“What do you see?”
“We got the pick… of DESTINYYYYYY! AAAAAAAAAAAH…. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!”
They shred the last few notes of the song in unison, heads bobbing violently in sync. By the end of it, Tokoyami’s breathless. He can only imagine how Kaminari must feel, having spent the last three minutes screeching like a banshee, but he’s got his arms out and ready to take in the praise.
“...”
A stunned silence envelopes the auditorium. Kirishima, who isn’t actually dead, scrambles up to his feet, stands next to Kaminari, and joins him in staring at the silent judges nervously.
It’s Bakugou who breaks the silence first. “Emo bird-head’s okay. Shitty Hair roadie’s okay. Hard pass on Pikachu.”
“Noooo!” Kaminari flails dramatically onstage and falls to his knees. “Y-you can’t do that! TokoDenShima is a package deal!”
“I can do whatever the fuck I want, charger-fucker!” the drummer yells, with a juicy expletive or two. “I couldn’t hear myself thinking with all the screaming!”
“No offense, Bakugou, but you do a lot of screaming yourself. Haven’t had a quiet thought since you got me on board as manager,” Shinsou deadpans, earning him his own juicy expletives. As if to drive his point home further, he rubs the space between his eyes and trains his haven’t-slept-in-a-month, dead-inside stare up the trio on the stage. “Anyway… you certainly got Present Mic’s yowling accurately, except for the part where he sets the mic on fire by screaming… to which I’m grateful for, by the way. Please don’t ruin our equipment.”
“You got it, you sexy sleepy manager, you,” Kaminari says, with two finger-guns pointing his way. He’s blatantly ignored by the purple-haired guy, much to Tokoyami’s relief.
Shinsou turns to the girls seated behind him and asks, “What do you think, MomoJirou?”
Yaoyorozu hums for a few seconds before nodding uneasily. “The rascals have… spirit, I guess? I think I can play something that’s compatible with their level of skill, so... I’m okay with whatever Kyouka has to say.”
And so, Kaminari, Tokoyami, and Kirishima turn their hopeful gazes to the fearless band leader, Jirou Kyouka. For a few tense seconds, the girl’s triangular eyes appraise them seriously, ominously even, as her fingers tighten in front of her covered mouth.
The tense silence is broken seconds later by pure, unrestrained, unfiltered cackling.
Tokoyami’s a little taken aback by how the bassist is suddenly howling with laughter. Her earjacks wave joyously in the air in front of her as she tilts her head backwards and forwards and even slaps her knees at one point in an attempt to get all the pent-up energy out. She keeps at it for a good solid minute or two before she calms down, grasping at her stomach desperately and struggling to look at Kaminari in the eye.
“S-sorry--it’s just that--you got that real, stupid Jamming-Whey look in your eyes when you’re screaming--”
“... Whey?” Kaminari repeats with that distinct empty look on his face. Tokoyami suddenly knows what Jirou means, and before he knows it, he’s chortling helplessly on the side, too.
And just like that, the auditorium is suddenly filled with laughter. Kirishima starts to guffaw and has to bend down on his knees just to steady himself. Yaoyorozu also begins to laugh heartily in the most lady-like way Tokoyami’s ever seen on a human being. Shinsou’s chuckling darkly like everything is a dark joke, but the tired look in his eyes is gone at least. Even Bakugou gives in and begins to howl like a madman from his spot on the auditorium.
In the midst of it, Kaminari’s just going, “Whey? Wheyyy??” in confusion. The laughter dies down eventually, and Jirou gets enough breaths in her lungs to start speaking properly again.
“What the fuck. You guys are in.”
There’s a moment of stunned silence among the three. Jirou just shrugs and says, “But I’m not letting you near the microphone, Jamming Whey. Stick to the guitars.”
“Yeahhhh boiii!” Kirishima cheers. In the next second, he’s lifting the two mildly shocked guitarists off their feet with his brawny arms. “You guys, we did it! The six of us, we’re gonna be the greatest band in the world, aw yeah!!!”
“Wheeeyyy!!!” Kaminari cheers, earning him another round of laughter from the band leader. He turns his dopey victory smile to Tokoyami and gives a thumbs up. “Kilt it! Love you, bro!”
Tokoyami sighs darkly as Kirishima continues to spin them round and round. He barely hears Shinsou dully welcoming them to the A-Band from below.
“Love you too, brother of mine.”
And thus begins their maddening, dreadful journey to the top, as the greatest band in the world.

The Storyteller Part 8
Sokka’s voice was full of relief as he swept his sister into a hug. “You’re okay.”
Over his shoulder, Katara watched the officials drag Ozai away. After the lightning, magic had still flown fast and hard. Her heart still raced slightly from the fear of trying to protect two novices facing their powerful father.
She glanced at Zuko to see him watching her. She blinked slowly, a movement of thankfulness and trust. With a short nod from him, they both went back to staring after the fallen prince of the Winter Court as Zuko retreated deeper into the protective personal bubble of his uncle.
“Don’t let anyone touch you,” she had hissed when it was over, when Aang and the first set of nobles barged in. “Not until Prince Iroh arrives. Ozai has friends.”
There hadn’t been time to say more, not without risking a paranoid reputation. Still, Iroh wouldn’t mess with memories, and he wouldn’t let anyone who would near the only malleable witnesses.
“Katara!”
She would worry about trials and politics later. Now, now was the time to sink into her father’s hug and be a little girl again.
My father took everything from me.
That was Azula’s old game, finding his favorite toy, then book, then homework, and making it vanish. It shouldn’t be a surprise that his father turned out to be better than either of them expected.
Beneath his hand, Azula’s shoulder twitches slightly as she shifts, settles. Only one other noble has tried to get close, and Uncle promised to explain why he navigated them away from the stranger later, after discussion of a grand welcome party.
Zuko’s memories were swirling, trying to organize the mess left behind by a would-be angry god. He both remembered and didn’t remember Uncle, and apparently confidence in his own recollection was another thing to add on the list of things Ozai stole.
Azula relaxed as the icy gold eyes of their father are finally dragged from the room. She leaned a little into her brother.
Well, not everything. But close.
Wine glass held to her chest almost like a shield, Katara surveyed the dancefloor from her place at the side.
The guests of honor were dancing again, a simple but fast waltz. The siblings made a stunning pair, and clearly their few months of rushed lessons had paid off, for the few errors in step were minor and could easily be blamed on their height difference.
(Of course, Azula getting to attend a ball at such a young age was highly unusual, much like most things surrounding the pair to be honest. But it would be an even more serious social gaffe to celebrate only half of the returned Fae than it would be to have a child at a ball. Besides, Iroh seemed to have restricted Azula to dancing only with family or old, married Fae - despite a few young males’ attempts otherwise.)
All rumors said they were adjusting well, and that Zuko’s prediction was right: Azula was already running circles around the less talented politicians
Katara emptied her glass, handing it off to a servant with a thank you as the song wound to a close. She hesitated before reaching for another glass. The stories of what happened seemed to have scared some of the more timid Fae away and she had barely danced. She would not, however, let good hospitality go to waste.
Another’s hand intercepted hers before she reached the glass. Zuko smiled, eyes dancing with mischief and a silent invitation to dance as a slow waltz began to play.
Echoing his smile, she followed him out onto the floor.
He had barely lead them through a first pattern before he was speaking. “Well, this seems awfully familiar, doesn’t it?”
Katara tossed her head, a haughty, teasing expression in her eyes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Be that as it may,” he replied, an eyebrow raised. “It is nice to dance with you, for real. You are a graceful partner, and I am perplexed that you don’t dance more often.”
“I’m impressed by your studies, but you can drop the act. No one else is listening.”
“Oh thank God. Though I am a little disappointed; I practiced what I was going to say for a good fifteen minutes. You would not believe the rules for conversation Prince Iroh made me memorize.”
She chuckled. “I would, actually.”
“Right! Queen, of course you know the game and are even better at it than I am.”
“Oh, are the masses of throne hungry heiresses getting to you?”
“There are so many! How can there be so many?”
“Imagine them trying to figure out how to throw themselves at your uncle.”
He drew back from her, proper dance hold be damned. “No. I refuse to think about that, even though I know realize it’s true.” He settled back into the correct form, perhaps holding her a bit closer than before. “You and your brother both have a talent for finding the exact right thing to say to offset me.”
“Ah, you’ve met Sokka.”
“How could I not? I am the guest of honor, after all.”
“Rightly so.”
She could get used to this, drawing smiles and blushes alike to his cheeks, and perhaps that flashy annoyance if she told enough puns. There was that familiar pang as she remembered the throne she held and the one he could claim.
“I may as well ask,” she began, sweeping her feelings under a rug once more. “Do you have any questions I could answer?”
“Have you ever played with my memories?”
“What? No. I only would have, only could have, if your father hadn’t interfered. But I doubt taking your memories away would have stuck, now that it all has come out.” She pressed a sense of honesty through their connection and met a stone wall. “Good. Someone has trained you about that. Don’t let someone you don’t know touch you without that wall. Keep your secrets.”
“Being heir to a throne is terrifying.”
“So is holding one.”
The song ended, and the crowd burst into scattered applause while couples re-sorted themselves. Katara was swept up by her father after a slightly awkward parting from Zuko. She didn’t see him again - except out the corner of her eye - until she was absorbed in talking magical shop with Aang and Haru.
She felt the music change, and glanced over to see Zuko headed her way. She had already started turning to him, a hand extended easily picked up by his, by the time he closed the distance and asked her to dance.
“Another slow waltz?” she asked, tucked into his arms and following his lead. “I have seen you dance the faster movements, so I know you can dance well. Why not with me?”
“I’m not quite good enough to dance fast without thinking about it, and I’d much rather think about conversation with you.”
“Oh.”
Zuko smiled. “Can I ask another question?”
“Of course.”
“Why didn’t you try to stop me from breaking out of the dream? You very easily could have.”
Katara hoped she wasn’t blushing. “It wouldn’t have been right. I wasn’t supposed to be there anyway - I intended to shore up defenses from an attack and actually unlock your sister’s memories, with permission of course, for something she said made me wonder. Regardless, you pulled me in, so I had to play along. Entice you to stay without being obvious. Even if I had known, I would have broken the dream sooner trying to keep you focused on me.”
“For tricksters, you care about rules.”
She grinned playfully. “The best tricks are played when you fly directly in the face of the rules, after all. Look at you, a lost heir sweeping in at the last second, stopping what might have boiled into war and throwing out another claimant. Your father didn’t play by rules he should have, and he’s paid for that. I think your sister will have far too much fun making the rules work for her.”
Zuko smiled back, “and for her alone.”
His grip subtly tightened around her, and the two let the natural turn of the waltz pull them closer. Katara risked smiling up at him, but in that moment his eyes were locked ahead, deftly navigating them through the other couples.
“You know your floorcraft.”
“I don’t really think waltz should be a full-contact sport.”
“Oh?” Her eyebrow was raised flirtatiously to match her tone, and he flushed pink.
“It’s- it’s a human term for sports where people run into each other and sometimes they get hurt and it’s kinda violent but also fun - of course dance is a full contact sport in the sense that for some dances you need to be close-”
“Zuko, Zuko I’m sorry. I was teasing. Relax.”
The music faded away as they came to a stop, something between them pulled tight. She slipped out of his grip like water, though his fingers curled slightly as if he wished to make her stay. She pulled away all the same, retreating. The night was ending, and she’d dance the final song with her father, as she always did when Sokka managed to save his third dance for Suki, and then vanish away to the Labyrinth, alone. Zuko was still faintly pink, and there seemed to be words on his tongue that Katara didn’t want to hear. Now that the song was over, now that the spell was broken, she just wanted to be alone to put herself together.
A debutante swooped in to grab Zuko, and Sokka snagged his sister’s arm. “So why do you look like someone just killed Momo?”
“Someone killed Momo?”
“No! No, why would anyone kill Momo? You just look like all the wind got taken out of your sails, when not thirty seconds ago you were having the time of your life with that handsome new prince. As your older brother, I have to worry.”
“Shouldn’t you be beating him with a stick for having touched me?”
“It’s a fine line I walk between ‘you are too good for him to even look at you’ and ‘he ought to be banging down Dad’s door with a marriage proposal already the ungrateful slacker.’ Tell me what’s up.”
Katara glared at Sokka. “No one will let him bang on Dad’s door, not when he’s in line for a throne, and the Labyrinth will take her heir first.”
“You know how long we live for, right? You don’t have to be worried about this right now.”
“Yes, I do, Sokka, because I don’t have the luck of an ice cube in Hel of having someone look at me the way you and Suki look at each other.”
Sokka pulled her against a nearby wall. “If this is jealousy, Katara get over yourself because you won’t improve your luck this way. If this a moment of weakness, let me get you champagne. But, listen-” He broke off to smile. “You’re not always watching when others are looking at you.”
Questions leapt into her lips, but before she could voice any, he tucked her arm through his and pulled her towards the dance floor. “Come, this is the penultimate number, and we should spend it dancing.”
The waltz was too fast to talk much through, and Sokka kept deflecting her questions as if he had the affinity for water she did. Then the song ended, and he left her there to whisk Suki into the new pattern. Katara shoved her irritation down, slipping out of the way of Iroh leading his niece forward. Ready to just twist home and prepare a messy prank for her brother, Katara almost jumped out of her skin when a hand touched her arm.
Cautiously, it trailed down until it lightly held her hand. She turned, half-afraid of who she’d see.
Zuko bowed slightly when her eyes met his. “May I have this dance?”
“It’s the final song.”
“I know.”
“We’ve already danced twice.”
“Will you dance with me again?”
“You know what you are asking?”
“I have a healthy uncle and younger sister, and the issue of succession hasn’t been figured out, if that’s what you’re referring to.” His fingers curled around hers.
“Prince Zuko-”
Something twitched in his eyes, and he pulled her close to him. “Do you want to dance with me?”
Her other hand came to rest on his shoulder, and he swept them into the final dance. Her thumb fingered the gold trim on his shirt as they spun down the edge of the dance floor. She kept her gaze politely over his shoulder, just high enough to watch his back while avoiding the livid gazes of less tactful young Fae.
“I’ve learned I have to think very far ahead, now.”
She just tilted an eyebrow at him.
“And alliances are important.”
“As are heirs.”
“I’m not asking you to marry me. That’s not how mortals work. Just to get coffee, you know?”
“Coffee?”
“You know; we clearly have something - I pulled you into a dream after all. But that’s not what a relationship can be built on, and definitely not one ruling a kingdom. I just want to get to know you.”
“And to prove the point you basically proposed using court etiquette?”
“May have been a tad hasty, but yes, I guess so.”
“Well then, I shall gladly get coffee with you. But if your uncle or my dad makes us wed to silence rumors and scandal, it’s your fault.”
He huffed with laughter. “If they do, then we’ll have to really do something to merit rumor and scandal.”
“Besides turn up and claim the throne after a whole life away?”
With a smirk, he took them around a tight corner in the dance. “A shotgun wedding would allow me to turn that tongue from sarcasm to much more delightful purposes.” Before she could berate him, he added, “I cook rather well. Nothing is more enjoyable than a home-cooked meal.”
“You put on the court mask when you flirt, you know. You ought to take it all off for me some time.”
Light smiles teased their lips as they danced on, eyes meeting more often than not, stretched between two places and half-decided already to build themselves a third.

Leh’d - lifetime experience !!
Not sure, how this fascination started. But I can say, probably from one of my friend’s fascination (Preeti) and dream to visit the place. The talks and the mentions, probably took me to further delve this place and the whereabouts. And the subsequent mentions and encounters in pictures and stories by many, who had had the experience, added to the “connect” and to the “want” to be there. Probably, was also able to infuse the same want in my co-partner (that excitement in eyes). This is first significant requisite for any successful trip, the connect of thoughts and excitement.
Tumblr media
“Acclimatisation” is another significant word for this trip. Specially because, the trip involves high altitude travels mostly, and therefore are the places, with low pressure and oxygen levels. Do take this part carefully, specially when you have not been to such altitudes earlier to this. Leh is typically at a height of 11,480 feet. As an alternate to spending a day in acclimatisation being in Leh, people also travel this height via Road, so that the ascend is gradual and acclimatise. Travel to Leh, by flight would generally mean an abrupt change for the body to adapt (temperature, air pressure, low oxygen levels). But in all, it would be suggestive to take first few days a little cautiously and supporting your body adaptations. We could avoid medicines completely, with no problems (had a minor headache in beginning), by relaxing and using camphor (initially).
Tumblr media
Ladakh is called “land of high passes”. Two of its major cities are - Leh and Kargil (Leh being largest city). This is also the reason, that the tours are generally categorised as “Leh-Ladakh” and “Kargil-Ladakh”. Leh being on the eastern side of the J&K, is sparsely populated and has more of the raw and natural sites. Leh also has some of highest passes, and the ones that we traversed were - Khardungla (by label - 18380ft), Changla (by label-17688ft), Tangla (by label -17582ft). There seems to be some changes in the heights of these passes (not sure, if the passes elevation has altered over the period of time). But we could see snow at all these passes more or less, Khardungla had the maximum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leh having 77% buddhists, also has lots and lots of monasteries and stupas. Nature was untouched and unbounded, places were untainted, weather was cool and serene, people were welcoming. Everything seemed to go well in sync with each other. May be this is why “Nature” is raw as yet, and offers protection to the mankind.
Tumblr media
“Julley” is the Ladakhi-term, which stands for “welcome”, “thank you”, “hello”, “bye” (and many more), and can definitely get you a connect with the people around. “Julley boards” can be witnessed at many places.
Tumblr media
Our visit was end of September 2017, when it is said to be relatively off for travel to Ladakh. However, Ladakh is open for tourism year around, but peak season being June-Aug. Peak season are relatively crowded everywhere, but weather is majorly predictable, and climate would be normal-to-cool. September end to October, as temperature drops to minuses in night in some parts, camps are generally on the pack-up mode. Camps close end of Oct, after that, weather is really too cold to withstand in camps. Also, getting water in camps was a fight (glacier water supply) and maintaining food and supply in camps were challenging even in September, as most of them would come from Leh and water in streams were observed frozen in nights and early mornings. Nature seemed to favour us, by not being bad/challenging in day time, but was freezing at nights. Pangong and Tsomoriri were really cold-worse in camps at night. But this would go for a toss, when the sun unveils the beauty and normalises temperature. Next was to get started with the new vigour, and to be in Nature’s lap again. Mankind seemed Alien in Mountain’s territory, as for miles, there was no one you could see, until you get some village or junction (an advantage of September visit). Mountains would be your all time companion.
Tumblr media
Nature’s beauty has no bounds here. With each day passing and horizon expanding, you will have new flavours unveiled. After 3-4 days, we thought we may have alike ahead, but to our surprise till the end of the trip, we never had a chance to say so. Each day, each view was different, and beautiful. Sometimes, it was the feeling that “two eyes aren’t sufficient”. The same spot, when seen in the early morning, or in the setting sun light, has very different feeling and expression. This is also one of the reason, why Leh is also being travelled in different seasons. “Weather” and “Season” are yet another variables in deciding the version of nature’s beauty for you, in Leh and around.
Tumblr media
Weather is also said to be very unpredictable here. The trip though planned well in advance, might still have its own challenges. Because, this is solely “nature’s premises and is hence governed by “nature”. As understood from travellers and guide, one should while travelling to Leh be prepared with a second plan, and should talk about the same with the travel-planner/driver. So that, when weather is not favourable on one track, one can opt other track. Even at times, no other plan works (one should be prepared for).
“magnificent“, “grand”, “mammoth“, “gigantic”, etc. is not sufficient to explain the massiveness of Nature. Be it mountains, plains, rivers, basins, whatsoever, seemed unparalleled. They were amazingly standing and embracing the spectators. Everything seemed to be exactly must there. Chilling breezes, but then there was really hot direct sun-rays balancing the climate. Water was freezing cold - be it river, rivulets, streams, lakes - seemed protecting itself from mankind, for not polluting it.
Another striking aspect of this place is, you get to see “sand-dunes”, “rivers”, “magnificent lakes”, “rivulets and streams”, “falls”, “rock-mountains”, “grand river basins”, “confluences”, “snow capped peaks and mountains”, “sunset beauty”, “sunrise beauty” all at one place. It is difficult to comprehend the beauty and more than it, the grand-ness of the nature. There seemed to be no unknown, hence no fear with the grand Nature here. From the lowest bottom till the top of the mountains, all scars to all the ridges, everything was visible, nothing hidden. It seemed, it knew about its enormousness, but stayed humble and inviting. Never did it try to threaten. It seemed teaching the aspect, “grow but be humble”, and at the same time making us realise “our position to its magnificent look”.
Tumblr media
Not sure, how much nature has to convey to mankind, and how much we understand. But definitely, we can learn a lot.
Sun’s brightness and smiling faces, seemed adding colours to the whole Leh, and would tempt people to visit and learn from nature and inhabitants.
This was my version of “Being Leh’d”. I hope, you would find your version soon, in your next/first visit.
Details of the travel, are added below for your reference. Hope you find it useful.

Camphor (कपूर) - inhale at places of short-breathe and places of discomfort.
Carry water bottle cartons, in your vehicle. Consume more water (but, little at a time).
Sunglasses (with UV protection).
Body lotion (shields body from cold)
UV protection lotions (sun is really direct and harsh to tan). This would minimise the effects. But do not worry much, instead enjoy the nature and sun, tan can be worked out later to the trip.
Medicine Box (general medicines - vomiting, stomach ache, stomach upset, head-ache).
Glucose/ORS - just to ensure, you have mechanism to drink and hydrate your body.
Eat light, as you have to be nomadic mostly (pack-travel-unpack-sleep type).
Food options are good generally in Leh, and around (vegetarian-wise). In September end, there is no much rush, and therefore you can take halt, for your lunch and teas. break-fast and dinners will be mostly in the hotels/camps. Other seasons are reported to have really big jams and huge traffic (roads are mostly single lane, and bridges “one vehicle at a time” type).
“Toilets available here” are as special facility there, and not available everywhere. Do take care of this, specially when travelling with family.
Music suggestion - light ones, with low volume. This is something person/group-specific. However, to enjoy and connect to the nature, in its very form - listening to all sounds and surroundings, is a must. But this is, ones choice purely.
Some cuisines you can rely on - momos+chutney, veg-fried-rice, chowmein, rice-rajma, aloo-parathey, poori-sabji, maggie(plain boiled generally), onion pakaudey. Curd is little rare, mostly. But generally, north-food dishes are well prepared here and tastes well.
Language spoken - natives understand and talk in “hindi” mostly (probably all). They have however, their native language as “Laddakhi”.
People are generally, welcoming, nice and humble. You get response when you wave hands, the smile you exchange (kids to age-old people).
Food to carry - you can keep some eatable (maggie, soups, nuts, etc.). Generally, you can use them for munching while travelling, or mostly in evenings. However, you can keep this section a little lighter while packing. As much of the eatable you would need, you can get in Leh itself, than to carry from your place (no much diff in prices).
Visit Leh-Market - walnuts, dried-apricots (dark coloured ones are good in taste, than the bright coloured ones. both with seeds and seedless), dried-apples (ones sold by villagers on way), apricots, apples (mongol specially), buddhist prayer flags, shawls/stole/mufflers, ladakh  etc. are some of the things you would like to try.
Leh-berry-juice : Could not get the leh-berry juice, when we visited. But could see lot of the berries, while travelling. Tastes a little bitter. But generally is being processed from outside Leh and is then brought back for selling. You can try those on outlets.
Take Ladakh Tourism Book/Map - book-store in Leh-Market. Good to know about the place and the culture, beyond what you see and is understood from guide.
Camera - to capture some of those shots (though I felt, either you can live or you can capture, many a times).
Hall of Fame - near to Leh - must visit place with kids and family. However, my suggestion would be, please do not visit as a picnic spot or visiting spot, capturing pics and selfies engrossed. It’s a place of “feeling” and “braves-memorial”. Artefacts well preserved and maintained. The emotions and the feelings needs to be felt and conveyed properly to the kids and youngsters and even us. “Salute to the Nation’s Army”, place of nation connect.
Wildlife - be open and observatory while road travels. You can see many just around. We could see many birds (Magpie, doves, black-necked crane, gulls, etc.), Yaks, Horses, wild ass, marmot, double humped camel (Nubra sand dunes), pashmina sheep.
Flowers - you can see many on the way and in hotels/camps. Very peculiar and beautiful bright ones.
Departure from Leh (Airport) - there are some specific rules to be followed, while carrying the check-in and hand-bags from Leh. Read a little before, and pack accordingly, to avoid last minute panics.
Travel unions in Leh, do not allow/permit vehicles (yellow board) from outside Leh. Private (white board) vehicles are allowed though. Even the vehicle from Leh not permitted for sightseeing in Kargil and vice-versa. This is to keep check and regulate the vehicle movements, on tourism front. Also, since tourism is the major source of income for people here.
Suggested to be cautious while capturing pictures or videos, so that nation’s privacy is not compromised on the name of sightseeing. Place is sensitive, primarily because of being Border area. But is serene in all. You will definitely find the same connect as rest of India - places, people, culture. :)
