I finished watching RTTE and I am. Emotional

#GAHFHHH…I don’t know what to do with myself rn. #I’ll probably rewatch some of my fave episodes bc I don’t think I’m ready to be done with it yet 🤧 #I WILL say tho the ending was uhhh #Pretty rushed. Lol #They had maybe 2-3 minutes to wrap it up #When instead they probably could have used an entire episode #Dedicated to various things. #i.e. The Dragon Riders coming to terms with saying goodbye to the Edge. #Mala and Dagur’s wedding. #Stoick regaining consciousness and his reunion with Hiccup. #VALKA’S CAMEO?? HELLO??? #Yeah they could have easily stretched out all of that into one epilogue episode for sure #Also I’m. I’m kinda bummed they dropped Fishlegs/Heather bc they were SO cute #AND SNOTLOUT/MINDEN #He literally shouted ‘THAT’S MY GIRL!!’ when she showed up in the final fight 😭 #But yeah I’ve never really been a fan of Fishlegs/Ruffnut? Not that I don’t understand the appeal but like #It’s just hard for me to imagine Ruffnut in a relationship with anybody. Except maybe Throk bc they made it WORK #Seeing her and Fishlegs all cuddly and cute in Homecoming feels SO OOC to me #But I digress. #Fishlegs/Heather had good chemistry 🥺 #Astrid/Heather even MORE so. GOD I love those girlfriends #Shima speaks #HTTYD #How To Train Your Dragon #Anyway ghfhh. Yk one of the biggest letdowns of HTTYD 3 is?

No mention of ANYTHING that happened in Defenders & Riders of Berk and RTTE.

The only knowledge that the series are cannon to the movie timeline is:

That's it. That's literally it! No mention of the Wingmaidens or Dagur & Mala. Nothing about Heather like what happened to her and Fishlegs? Why was their friendship never mentioned? Or Astrid & Heather's or Dagur being Hiccup's "brother"? Where's Gustav?! What happened to the A Team and Gothi's gronkle?

And what about Hiccup & Astrid's wedding? Why wasn't Dagur, Mala, Heather & the Wingmaidens there? Hiccup and Astrid and the other riders were at Mala & Dagur's so why weren't they at the end of HTTYD 3?

Another thing, when they were looking for a new home, why didn't they stop off at Beserker Island? Defenders of the Wing island? Wingmaiden Island? Or have them pass by the Edge and having the Riders reminiscing about living there.

I'm kind of upset that there's no mention of anything from these series, not just the characters, but the dragons too.

You don't see Razorwhips or Thunderdrums, Death Songs of Armour Wings. It's kind of a shame that there's so many unique dragons that never get seen.

I still love these movies but I am still disappointed that the series only has 4 mentions in the movies.

The Dagala Dilemma

Dagur and Mala are two of my favorite characters. They're also my favorite couple in Dragons. That said, I don't like how RTTE handled the relationship.

These characters have one episode of interacting before they decided to get married (two if you include "Saving Shattermaster" where cloaked Dagur stopped the Hunters from attacking Mala and Throk. Too bad that was never mentioned. What a cute way to meet your future S.O!). Then one more, ONE more episode really which was when they announced the engagement. I don't think the very last episode counts for much because they didn't exchange lines. Just one line, then a kiss on the cheek. Somehow, we didn't even see these two kiss on the lips since Hiccup and Astrid decided to make out at the wedding instead.

It's a shame because I've seen a lot of people dislike this ship and I think that's a reason why. The show never tries to demonstrate how they work. Just argue, bond over the twins' mediation methods, then get engaged and married. Life is short, but...rushing that a little, you two. If Viking unions are forever, that's all the more reason you want to make sure you know someone. Even in the engagement episode, we didn't see them interact much. They announced it, then they pulled Dagur away to drop off metal. What's worse is that I really think they could go the distance (cue Hercules) with their relationship. I can genuinely see them growing old together, having happiness and some grandkids by then. You'd just never know from the show. Here's why I think it could work:

For starters, I love that it gives Dagur an opportunity to be around someone who doesn't know him as his bad self. He will always have to prove himself to the others. There's nothing he can do to make them forget who he was and they shouldn't. He killed an entire island of people. Dagur really was a villain. He's also really a better person who has put his life on the line for them several times, with or without them hating him. Mala gives him a clean slate. She doesn't peek think back on the time he almost killed her because he never did. In their entire time of knowing each other, he's been Dagur the Deranged, but he's also been a good guy. He doesn't have to try to stay on his best behavior to make her know he's better, he can just be himself.

Along with that, I think they'd be good influences on each other. Mala seems like the type who doesn't like to show much emotion. She is the unfazed, calm, and strong queen of the Defenders. She tries to contain what she's feeling. One of the examples of this that I loved was when the Riders first met her and she thought they stole the Great Protector. Mala is in such a state of rage that she breaks the arrow in one hand as she processes what happened. Hmm, rage. Wonder who understands that...

Dagur's a lot of things, but shy about his emotions isn't one of then. Even in the first gif with them together, we see Mala really happy and laughing. I don't think there's another time in the show where she's laughed at anything. I could see Dagur helping her realize that being strong and stone-like aren't the same. She can be furious, overjoyed, sad, or whatever else she's feeling and still an amazing leader worthy of respect. He'll just be there to help her through it.

Mala is also calm and strong enough to match Dagur. She's not going to cave to his idea of having the kids of the island start juggling swords. I could see her being patient and considerate by explaining which actions are potentially dangerous/harmful for someone. She wouldn't make him feel crazy or foolish either. She'd just help him as she learned to understand his mind. With her being less easy to anger, Mala could be the voice of reason while Dagur is trying to calm down. I could even see them doing meditating together.

They're also both violent. Mala was ready to KILL Hiccup and the others. She made that very clear. It's something they have in common that they both planned to kill the poor trainer who's on everyone's hit list. I think it's overlooked how ruthless she can be. This is perfect for Dagur. He can get some of his violence out as they do couple battling and Mala won't look at him like he's some monster. They'll be right at each other's side, killing whoever dared to get close.

So, I really think this is a couple that could work. I wish they got more screentime, but at least fanfics and headcanons can fill in the rest. And I still mad we didn't see them do the dance of blades, but I'll get over it...maybe.

Honestly for me he’s the only one with blorbo potential, especially in rtte (the ending that the franchise deserved imo… what third movie? There wasn’t even a second one! I do like the 2nd movie but I just can’t deal with stoic’s death)

For me he wasn’t my favorite until one of the times I rewatched rtte and realized that he was canonically bi (fishlout/snotlegs will always be canon to me, there were too moments and I feel like it definitely could’ve been implied if they hadn’t done the stuff with heather [fishlegs did her dirty ngl, like he flirted with Ruff at Dagur’s and Mala’s wedding] and Ruffnut) and that he wasn’t the complete ass hole than I thought he was. Also Spitelout was definitely abusive to him, it’s canon that he psychologically abusive and manipulated Snotlout and belittled him >:c

Anyway, I love him, I wanna hold him in the palm of my hand, and maybe squeeze him :)

i will forever be upset that they didn’t show characters from rtte in the third movie, i really just wanted something like us being able to see heather, dagur, mala, throk, minden, atali, etc at hiccup and astrid’s wedding. i understand why they couldn’t give them any important parts or stories since not everyone watches the shows, but they could’ve at least had them in the background or pan through at the wedding as a little secret gift for people who have seen the shows :((

I LOVE Dagur and his relationships with the other characters (especially after his redemption arc) so much dude omg

The Mala thing kinda came out of nowhere for me, I kinda wish they’d just left him single but the irony of the fact that when they were kids Dagur tried to drown Hiccup and used him for knife throwing practice, and then they ended up having a full blown war w each other that resulted in imprisoning Dagur for 3 years before they LITERALLY JUST DID IT SGAIN BUT BIGGER and now Hiccup is willingly his best man at his wedding is so funny to me and it’s definitely worth it

Hi bestie can we,,, have some Åse and Snotlout fun facts? As a little treat?🥺

oh of course! (i should note that in this au snotlout and hiccup are NOT cousins… that would be kinda awkward)

first off of course: they’ve known eachother most their lives, but never got along much. they’re very different. sun and moon different.

as teens snotlout would flirt with Åse and Astrid both, relentlessly. Åse could never tell if he was being genuine or not so she would usually just ignore him.

when they first started… getting close… they kept it pretty much to themselves. despite this, everyone could tell something was going on.

hiccup and heather were the first to realize what exactly was going on. heather didn’t do or say anything, but hiccup started putting the two on missions together. we love a supportive cuz.

tuff was the first to see them kiss. he then told ruff despite åse and snotlout chasing him down. ruff then told fishlegs who actually kept the secret pretty well. for about 2 days… one day at the breakfast table he let something slip and astrid spit her drink across the table.

snotlout’s immediate reaction to that ^ was literally “surpriiiiise”

Astrid loves to tease Åse about picking Snotlout of all people, or jokingly thank her, but she is actually really happy for them.

Åse keeps Snotlout from doing and saying stupid offensive stuff. Whether it’s a “Lout behave” or “Hey- uh uh”. It’s kind of like having a naughty kid or dog at times.

Snotlout sometimes goes with Åse to visit her mother (who lives on another island). He’s super sweet to her mom, but her mom is not his biggest fan.

Åse and Spitelout despise eachother, constantly getting under eachother’s skin. Åse once broke Spitlelout’s nose because he smacked her during an argument. This was one of the few times Snotlout actually yelled at his father.

Åse is the only person who regularly sees Snotlout emotional or vulnerable. He hates feeling weak but she’s patient and doesn’t judge.

Åse is taller than Snotlout by a couple inches.

Åse’s betrothal gift to Snotlout was a necklace with a golden Hookfang on it. Snotlout wears it at all times. It was the only gift he’s gotten that made him cry.

Snotlout’s betrothal gift to Åse was a golden dagger he had Hiccup make. He wanted her to have something to protect herself aside from a bow. They’ve gotten into their fair share of scrapes and he worries.

Åse is usually the more shy and quite one, but at Dagur and Mala’s wedding, she forced Snotlout to dance with her.

Åse puts little braids in Snotlout’s hair, similar to how Astrid does for Hiccup.

Åse is trying to teach Snotlout Gaelic, so he can impress her mother. He has no clue what he’s doing.

Snotlout does the cooking. Åse can’t cook…

Snotlout sings Tove to sleep sometimes; Åse taught him some lullabies from her childhood and vice versa.

HTTYD Creative Week Day 6: Longing

Summary: Before Dagur gets married to Mala, he has one more request of Hiccup.

“Hiccup?”

“Hm?” Hiccup turned to look at Dagur. They were in the clubhouse with the Dragon Riders at the moment, and Hiccup was taking some time to work on an art project. He hadn’t gotten the time recently.

“Can we talk?” Dagur asked. He eyed the other Riders. “Privately?”

What was this about? Dagur sounded terribly nervous. Was it something bad? Had Hiccup done something wrong?

“Yeah, sure.” Hiccup gave a nod to the Riders, and they began to quietly leave the room. Astrid placed a hand on Hiccup’s shoulder as she passed him, and Hiccup took her hand, gave it a squeeze. He was nervous, but at least he would have Astrid later. That’s what she was letting him know.

“So, what’s this about?” Hiccup asked. He sat at the main table in the clubhouse, around the stove. Dagur was sitting at a different table, but he stood, pulled a chair up across from Hiccup.

“I just… wanted to talk,” Dagur said. He sighed, ran a hand through his hair, and Hiccup wondered what was bothering him. He was getting married soon. That was a good thing, right? Wasn’t he excited for that? Or was he starting to have doubts about Mala?

“Is this about the wedding?” Hiccup asked.

“Kind of.” Dagur drummed his fingers on the table. He looked around, as if checking that they were alone even though he knew they were. “I talked to Mala about this already. She said it was fine to talk to you.”

“About?” Hiccup was very curious now, less nervous as well.

“So… all those years ago, when I went to war with you and Berk,” Dagur began. Oh, this was going back. “I said I did it for Toothless, because I was hurt that you were training dragons.”

“Mm hm…” Hiccup remembered that vividly. He also remembered Dagur’s strange obsession with him that had seemed to be sexual in nature. Was that… still there? Was that what he was going to tell him? They were allies now, and Hiccup was comfortable around Dagur because he respected his boundaries, but how did he feel about him?

“Well, that was part of the reason,” Dagur said. “The other was because you hurt me by declining to be with me in any manner. I just… I couldn’t deal with it. I was young and-and really needed emotional help, I think, and I just didn’t know how to deal with it.”

“Okay.” Hiccup wanted to let Dagur know that he was still listening. He put his drawing and his art tools aside, folded his hands on the table.

“And then the war ended and I was in prison. I… I didn’t lie to you back on the Reaper when I told you I thought of you every day. Some of those thoughts were about how I wanted revenge. Some of them were about my, uh, well, obsession with you. They weren’t good thoughts, and I’m ashamed of having them.”

“But, Dagur, you didn’t act on those thoughts,” Hiccup said. “Well, you tried to for some of the time, but you’re different now. They never came to fruition.”

“I know, I know.” Dagur looked away from Hiccup, down at the table. “But they were still there, you know? And I tried to implement them into actions.” Now he looked at him again. There was an emotion on his face that Hiccup couldn’t determine. “I’m sorry, Hiccup. I’m really, really sorry.”

“Why did you have to talk to Mala first if you were going to apologize to me?” Hiccup asked, still not wholly getting it, though he was touched that Dagur wanted to apologize to him. Hiccup felt like he didn’t have to, not after the way he’d saved his life back on that island, not after the ways in which he’d proven himself to be their ally and friend.

“Because, I… I want to say something more. I hope it doesn’t scare you, and that you’ll forgive me for it,” Dagur said. He folded his hands on the table, copying Hiccup. Hiccup figured he knew what was coming, and it didn’t scare him. Not in the least, not with the way Dagur treated him now.

“Dagur, there won’t be a thing to forgive.”

“Well, uh…” Dagur stopped for a moment, cleared his throat. “I love you, Hiccup,” he said. “I think I always have, and I just didn’t know what it was, or how to express it. I love Mala, and I’m glad I’m marrying her, but I love you too. I never made a move because I didn’t want to frighten you, and well, a chief and an heir marrying? We can’t really have heirs, you know?”

Hiccup just nodded. He understood this. He’d understood this for quite some time.

“Dagur, that doesn’t frighten me in the least,” Hiccup said. He reached across the table and took Dagur’s hand. “I thank you for telling me.” He didn’t want to tell Dagur that he’d already known. He didn’t want to take this moment away from him.

Dagur blushed a little bit, but didn’t pull his hand back. “Oh, well, uh, then can I request something of you? I’m surprised that you’re not upset or worried that I’ll do something, or-”

“Dagur, it’s fine,” Hiccup interrupted, giving his hand a squeeze. “What is it? I’ll try to fulfill it to the best of my ability.” Dagur had already asked him to be his best man at his wedding. What was this request?

Dagur’s face turned almost the same shade as his hair. He looked away, then back, seeming to try to smooth himself into composure.

“May I kiss you?” he asked. “Just once? Just to… know what it would have been like? It’s okay if you have to ask Astrid first. I was just wondering…” He seemed very uncomfortable now.

Hiccup stood, and not to leave. He came over to Dagur, took both his hands and pulled him up to his feet. Dagur was looking at him in astonishment now.

“Hiccup, really?”

“Yes, Dagur,” Hiccup said. “It’s the least I can do for you.”

“Won’t Astrid be mad?” Dagur looked towards the door, as if afraid that Astrid would suddenly come in swinging her axe.

“Well, if she is, I’ll try my best to explain it to her, and to keep her axe away from you.” Hiccup laughed. “Dagur.” He was still looking at the door. “She’s not going to come in right this second.”

“Right, right.” Dagur directed his gaze to him now. He had to tilt his chin up just a tad to meet his eyes. “Remember when you were shorter than me?”

Hiccup laughed. “Yeah. I do.” He began leaning his head in. He knew Dagur was talking because he was nervous. He didn’t want him to be nervous. He wanted him to be at peace.

Dagur didn’t do anything for a moment, clearly still stunned. But then he leaned his head in too. Their lips met in the middle, and Dagur cupped Hiccup’s face with one hand.

It was so different from kissing Astrid. It was soft, softer than he’d imagined Dagur would ever be, but there was still that ferocious passion of his behind it. And then there was the fact of how his beard scraped against Hiccup’s face. Hiccup had never kissed a man before, had never truly thought about it, but he found that he didn’t mind this. Dagur was his friend. He could do this for him.

Toothless, who had been silent the entire conversation, made a suggestive sound at Hiccup and Dagur, and that had the both of them pulling apart, laughing. Toothless had been curled up in the corner, and Hiccup hadn’t known whether he’d been paying attention or not.

“Toothless!” Hiccup cried. “It’s not like that!”

Dagur cackled. “Hiccup, I think he wants you to get some.”

“Not from you!” Hiccup playfully slapped Dagur on the arm, and then the both of them devolved into laughter.

It got quiet again after that, the both of them just panting, looking at each other, still holding onto one hand. Dagur gave it a squeeze. “Thank you, Hiccup. I was longing to do that.”

Hiccup smiled at him, dipped his head graciously. “Anything for you, my friend.”

Ok finally finished Dragons: Race to the Edge so here are my thoughts

Animation is a LOT nicer than Riders/Defenders of Berk. Still a bit stiff and wonky but it just looks better and they did a GREAT job with the dragon flying animations.

I really cannot tell of Dagur hates Hiccup or is in love with him

I'm SO SO SO glad we got to see how Stoick met Skullcrusher

I'm also really glad that Gustav kept Fanghook he loves his dragon so much 🥺

Almost had a heart attack when Tuffnut said the word "Hell". Really did not expect cursing in this show. I know it's not like, a super severe curse word but it still caught me by surprise

Heather is a good guy! Heather is a bad guy! Heather is a good guy! Heather is a bad guy! Who fucking knows!

Speaking of Heather I LOVE her dragon. Windshear has such a neat design

Oh my GOD the fucking Buffalord. I love it but why does it looks so sad and depressed?

The musical episode with everyone singing to the baby Death Song is one of my favorite episodes of all time. Snotlout actually has a really nice singing voice! I wish we got to hear Astrid sing more than she did though :(

Ahhhh we get to see how Gobber got Grump!

Seeing how much Dagur loves Shattermaster makes my heart explode

I cried when they thought Garf was going to die I love him so much

I never really paid much attention to Hiccstrid but their relationship in the show is ADORABLE. I'm glad we got to see how they became an official couple

Everyone always talks about Hiccup's relationship with Toothless but AGH Astrid and Stormfly are adorable. They work so well together and Astrid loves her so so so much. Even after being blinded she wanted to go out and look for Stormfly and when she thought she was poisoned Astrid punched a fucking Slitherwing with her bare hands knowing she might die, but she wanted to at least save Stormfly. And in the same episode she drew a picture for Stormfly to cheer her up SHE LOVES STORMFLY SO MUCH

I love the noises the Singetails make they're so goofy looking

I'm glad Dagur got Sleuther but I wonder what happened to Shattermaster :(

I was a bit worried about the ending because I wasn't sure how they were going to have it tie in with the second movie, but they did a nice job with having Hiccup not actually see the Bewilderbeast.

Overall I REALLY really enjoyed this series. The humor was amazing and I love seeing all the new types of dragons. I was so sad watching the last episodes because I knew it was over :(

I’ve been rewatching the Netflix Dragons Race to the Edge series these days and I still can’t understand how both Fishlegs and Snoutlot began romantically pursuing Ruffnut. Based on the ending though it obviously happened during Dagur and Mala’s wedding, but still. I know a wedding can often bring up new feelings and emotions, but really?! It never really explains how in the world they even fell for her in the first place or what they saw in her anyway? I still prefer the relationship between Fishlegs and Heather. I wish they didn’t break up. They were my second favourite romance after Hiccup and Astrid.

I’m not actually trans myself, but I can come up with a few headcanons for a trans!Hiccup. Sorry it took me so long to get to them too. I wanted to put enough thought into these.

Some Hiccup headcanons:

The first time Hiccup realized he prefered he/his/him pronouns, it was after he met Toothless and the Red Death had been defeated. He wasn’t sure why he felt the way he did, but he knew that it felt right. His father, Gobber and his friends take to calling him by his prefered pronouns quite well.

Hiccup doesn’t have dysphoria. He once thought he had a problem with the way his body looked because it didn’t fit with his prefered pronouns, but as he grew realized his problems with his physique lied in how skinny and “runt-y” he was while his father had seemingly prefered buffer offspring. A problem that solves itself as he grows older, matures and becomes more confident in himself. (*)

He’s still tall.

Hiccup still wears the same clothes as he does in canon. Fur vest, tunics, (leather) pants, lots of belts later as he reaches his twenties. They still look the same as he wears them too.

He likes to keep his hair short. Or, well, as “short” as it is in canon. Hiccup has a lot of hair. He used to have long braids, something Stoick wanted him to have to keep Valka close to them both, but decided to cut his hair short not too long before Httyd 1.

Cutting his hair short caused the rift between hiccup and his father to grow bigger. After Httyd 1 has happened and Stoick understands Hiccup better, he made sure to help Hiccup out the next time his son’s hair was up for a cut.

Hiccup and Astrid still end up together. Astrid loves her boyfriend (and later on, her husband) for who he is.

Hiccup carried Zephyr, which is why she still gets to have Stoick’s flaming red hair. Nuffink was carried by Astrid. This is something they talked about and agreed on when they both felt ready to expand their family.

Hiccup wouldn’t mind carrying their third either, should it ever come to that. This is something he and Astrid always discuss thoroughly. They both love the children they already have and wouldn’t mind one or two more.

* Hiccup has issues with his physical body in canon, but this is something we see mainly in Httyd 1 and RoB/DoB. It’s a direct result from the main misunderstanding he and Stoick suffer from in Httyd 1, in which Hiccup believed his father’s problem with him was the fact that he was skinnier and smaller than the other teens his age when Stoick’s actual problem with Hiccup was the fact that he never listened and never fit it. From RttE onwards, Hiccup doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem with his body anymore.*

Some Rider-related headcanons:

Snotlout was the first human to know.

Toothless was the first ever.

At first, Snotlout had some trouble understanding, but he used the right pronouns. As he grew up and learned more about himself and his sexuality, he also came to understand the way Hiccup felt about himself. From RttE onwards, Snotlout has come into the habit of punching whoever misgenders Hiccup.

Astrid has a tendency to punch people who misgender Hiccup too. Unlike Snotlout she’s “less friendly about it” according to her.

Zephyr and Nuffink never questioned Hiccup until they were both already well into their teens. They never found it strange that they called one “mom” their dad.

Tuffnut once suggested Hiccup should make himself a beard out of bear fur (and one for Astrid too) so he and Astrid can finally “rub each others beards” after Snotlout mentions it back in RttE. In fact, he made it their wedding gift.

Tuffnut once swung an arm around Hiccup and told him “you and I, we understand each other, my friend” after having one too many in the Great Hall on Snoggletog as Tuffnut mourned his inability to grow a beard.

Fishlegs felt quite awkward around Hiccup at first, always worried to misgender him, always worried to offend him. After time passes (filled with plenty of reassurances on Hiccup’s part) this disappears completely.

Ruffnut is often misgendered herself in canon. (Dagur asking Savage “wait, there’s more than one?” as a response to Savage’s question which girl Rider they should take hostage comes to mind.) This gives her a deeper understanding of the way Hiccup feels and even makes her surprisingly protective of his identity.

Valka remembered leaving a daughter on Berk after she decided to stay with Cloudjumper. When she and Hiccup finally reunite, that her daughter turned out to be a young man instead caused for some confusion at first, but Valka adapted accordingly.

Eret had absolutely no idea until Hiccup one day happens to mention it in a casual conversation with all the Riders. It changed nothing about their close friendship. In fact, all it does is make Eret join the “We punch people who disrespect the Chief” Brigade. (*)

Gobber may have known for years before even Hiccup knew.

* The “We Punch People Who Disrespect The Chief” Brigade members are: Toothless, Astrid, Snotlout, Gobber, Stoick(prior to his passing), Valka, Ruffnut and Eret. *

Some other-related headcanons:

Dragons have more than two genders. Hiccup being trans isn’t a strange concept to them.

Vikings probably didn’t know there were people that were transgender. Hiccup going through life as a man may have caused a bit of an uproar, but so does every little change that the Berkians are not accustomed too before they get used to it.

Much like Gobber, Gothi, magical as she is, already knew too. It was her advice to Stoick to “treat his daughter like he would treat his son”.

Prior to his redemption, Dagur was quite unwilling to accept Hiccup the way he was. The day Dagur decided to redeem himself, he also decided to make a conscious effort to change that.

Queen Mala figured out that Hiccup was afab upon their first meeting, but never even mentioned it. What mattered to her was whether Hiccup and his Dragon Riders were friend or foe. To her it was a passing realization and nothing more.

These are all the headcanons I can think of at the moment. Might add more if I can think of any.

Does anyone else get an asexual vibe from Tuffnut or is it just me?

I mean, in both the trilogy of films and the series, he at no point seems to express much interest in romance or being attracted to someone. He seems to have more love for Chicken, Macey etc., though that’s not really sexual (for the love of Thor I hope it’s not). In the first film, he says something about Astrid and Ruffnut, “your butts are getting bigger, we thought you were a dragon” - which, given that Ruff is his sister, is unlikely to be sexual. In HTTYD3, he talks about crashing weddings and Hiccup being marriage material but there’s no mention or indication that he himself has ever actually been in a romantic relationship.

And it’s not just because HTTYD is primarily family oriented either - there’s been a lot of adult jokes or jokes that could be seen as adult that slip under the radar for both the movies and the shows:

The Axe To Grind deleted scene from the first movie where Hiccup is openly staring at Astrid’s ass, so much so that he accidentally breaks her axe

Hiccup: “Well, you know, Astrid, training dragons isn't the only thing I think about.” // Astrid: “Are you actually saying that to me with a straight face?”

Dagur calling himself “Daddy” (I’m sorry I’m just peverted)

Ruffnut openly desiring Eret

Snotlout wanting to bang Valka, though I think there’s more to it than that - possibly him looking for validation, but that’s a whole other post!

“Can we lose the whole honking goose thing, it’s hard to imagine wedded bliss with that going off every minute”

That scene where Hiccstrid give each other bedroom eyes as they set a whole ship on fire

I know in one episode of Race to the Edge, Tuffnut is asked about wouldn’t he want to settle down with a nice Viking woman, and he says yes, but that’s not necessarily indicative of him actually being straight or anything. He could a) not realize that he’s asexual or b) believe that it’s what EVERY Viking guy wants and so he’s sort of just saying it like “well, yeah, I guess, who doesn’t”. It sounds like a nice idea, in principle, but he might not realize until later that actually, it’s not for him.

You could argue that we don’t see him interested in anyone because the only girl in the tribe his age who is single is his twin, Ruffnut - but he never showed any interest in other girls like Heather, Minden, Mala etc.

I don’t know, I suppose it’s open to interpretation. I personally love the idea of Tuffnut being asexual or aroace, and being the fun uncle of the group. I think he’d made a good parent though (uhm...kind of?) and he did sound genuine when he mentioned wanting a family, but you could then argue that a family doesn’t have to equal a spouse and children - the riders are like a family.

I’m curious to know what everyone else thinks?
