(Personal, Long) This is why I can't use 9-1-1 currently.
Yes, there's the issue of not being able to call for an ambulance for my health concerns without involving the police. The last 3 times I tried to get an ambulance I got cops instead, and while they weren't hostile they were, you know, police, not medical personnel, and then there had to be a second wait FOR the ambulance. And the sad part of that is, that's a fairly GOOD outcome for the United States: too often you dial 9-1-1 and what you get is Death on Wheels as Officer Trigger-Happy and his boyfriend, Officer Panic Attack, show up locked, loaded and dogs off the leash. Everyone's hyped up, but it's for the wrong reasons, to say the least. Too many police show up with a "who do I kill?" mindset versus a "who do I help?" one.
But this one runs deeper than that. More on that below the break.
I've had fairly serious health issues now for years. I've just had to sit there and watch in horror as my life's fallen apart, piece by piece as I've become more of a shut-in due to my bladder, prostate and colon issues becoming a constant and life-wrecking hassle. No sleep, no real chance to maintain laundry, no endurance left to get out there and do things with, and yeah, having the COVID-19 pandemic and its dysfunction to work around has been a mixed blessing at best.
But the main thing of it is this. I was forced to move across town and nearly completely out of zipcode in 2019. I've been banished from a centrally-located neighborhood in my town to being nearly in the boonies in the town next door--now I'm about 3 miles away from the bulk of my healthcare and I have neither a car or the license to legally drive one. There's mass transit bus service, sure, and that takes an hour's ride plus a walk to get to many places near Carle Hospital in town. So basically, I have no transportation I can reliably use to get to places without a longer trip than what my lower-body will tolerate.
So I did, a few times, have to use an ambulance service to get there to try to get help. And I got dumped by the Emergency Ward--basically given minimal meds/help and then told to "walk it off" and "go home" on foot, once late at night, once during the day, both times without even being told what bus routes run out to the place, or what my options were in terms of transportation home (and what I'd be billed for those). And yes, dumping happens, it's a thing:
And the last three times weren't any better. I got help with bus route info exactly ONCE from a specific nurse who even helped me make sure I had bus fare, but if she hadn't been there, nobody else would have been. The next one doesn't count--it was on my birthday 2 years ago and like an idiot, I admitted my physical health issues were emotionally distressing, and making me crazy. This got me put out to the Psychiatric Ward for my birthday, and then 6 days-ish of my being treated like dirt in the name of CBT exercises and enforcing obedience to Nurse #Karen. Although to be fair, EVERYONE in the Ward was being treated like dirt, half-starved by the lack of medically ordered dietary options, half-left to rot for want of access to hygiene goods, and a lot of us were left to fend for ourselves (and wait our turns for the most aggressive people to get done and get out of the way already). Point being, I got no help for the physical issues (I couldn't and they wouldn't), but I did at least get a ride home, after a colossal hassle.
Third time? Look, one side effect of the urinary tract business is that I get water issues (swelling, pain, bloating) in my feet and lower legs. I can't always stand and walk a lot. So I did get pushy ONCE and insist on a ride home on a "bill me later?" basis, since a) I don't have a smartphone for Uber purposes, and b) offering me an Uber home might have been a HIPAA (privacy act) violation on top of that. So I now owe a back debt (some 6 months old) of $36 bucks to the ambulance service. Meaning that won't work again, but at the same time, I didn't have to "walk it off" and dead-reckon/waddle my way home either like an unhinged duck trying to avoid being Duck Hunted By Police Helicopter. (all while hoping I don't pee myself all over the Mass Transit bus trying to get home from Downtown Urbana, ugh)
My point is? I've been dumped by Carle facilities at least twice. I also know going the Mental Health route won't work since it won't get me even trivial aid for the bladder/prostate issues. They'll just accuse me of being a drunk and/or uncooperative and go into Prison Warden Mode.
When here's the truth: the week of my birthday last month, during the night of August 17th into the day of the 18th, I had a CYST pop audibly in my urethra, inside of my literal penis. I had planned to do something about my student loans the tail end of August, but instead I had to spend the next 2 weeks biting down volcanic pain and taking store-brand over-the-counter stuff to keep myself out of sepsis and to take the edge off of the pain.
And there's at least two more CYSTS where that came from: one in my urethra, a second lying quietly on top of my bladder. A simple ultrasound could detect them both. But nah. I had the CT scan done, and now people insist on shoving robot probes up my butt (colonoscopy) and up my urethra (cystoscopy, yes, even with cysts present) with minimal doses of over-the-counter numbing agent, because By God, Mandated Suffering, I've Gotta Be AWAKE For This Shit, said no one BUT the insurer. Nobody but the right-wingers at Carle and Aetna actually want this. There's probably laws on the books keeping a Veterinarian from shoving robot probes into Dogs and Horses without knocking them out first, but nah, people are fair game.
But yeah. I have cysts, acting a lot like tumors. But Carle is like SETI. According to SETI, "It's not aliens because it's NEVER ALIENS, It's always DUST." Carle is "It's not Cancer because it's NEVER CANCER, because you're too fucking poor to help with that." Well, not unless you want robot probes shoved up your junk while you're being forced to be awake and watch your own torture.
If only I had the spare money to throw into having a bodily MRI done that I could submit INSTEAD OF the Robot Probing. But nah, that would be cheating, and expensive:
But mainly it would be Cheating right-wingers and #Karens out of their chances to gloat and chuckle over how "they get to suffer." And by suffer I might mean exploding cysts, and also having to deal with butt-seizures every time I fart or drop bowel, and near-constant blockage issues happening between the colon, prostate and bladder in there. Really, my life's been ruined for a couple of solid years already. I've already BEEN made a neutered shut-in by this condition, so Nurse #Karen and her radical feminist buddies can party and gloat and laugh right up until I Bite The Dust.
What am I saying? I have flagrant cysts. I do NOT feel good. I'm exhausted and in constant pain. I have anywhere from a few days to a few weeks left to live, and this isn't intentional on my part. My shoes are worn out and I don't have decent clothes left for a final trip to the hospital anyway. When the landlords kicked me out of town and Carle made all of this so difficult, they both sentenced me to death, and for what, being a townie on their precious Campus? :p
Something like that. I say that because I have to block a LOT out of my mind and make whole days and weeks a Blank Space just to NOT be traumatized by "everything, all the time" the way some folks say I am. I already have to block out and/or de-escalate from a lot as it is.
But yeah, I might be involuntarily dead or something, sooner than I'd like to be. Whether it's a few days or a few weeks, I don't know, but it doesn't feel so good, particularly around where my kidneys are. Things have gotten WORSE-worse. I will hang in as long as I can, but I can't promise miracles.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week.
January 19-26 2024
The Energy Department announced its pausing all new liquefied natural gas export facilities. This puts a pause on export terminal in Louisiana which would have been the nation's largest to date. The Department will use the pause to study the climate impact of LNG exports. Environmentalists cheer this as a major win they have long pushed for.
The Transportation Department announced 5 billion dollars for new infrastructure projects. The big ticket item is 1 billion dollars to replace the 60 year old Blatnik Bridge between Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota which has been dangerous failing since 2017. Other projects include $600 million to replace the 1-5 bridge between Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, $427 million for the first offshore wind terminal on the West Coast, $372 million to replace the 90 year old Sagamore Bridge that connects Cape Cod to the mainland,$300 million for the Port of New Orleans, and $142 million to fix the I-376 corridor in Pittsburgh.
the White House Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access announced new guidance that requires insurance companies must cover contraceptive medications under the Affordable Care Act. The Biden Administration also took actions to make sure contraceptive medications would be covered under Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. HHS has launched a program to educate all patients about their rights to emergency abortion medical care under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. This week marks 1 year since President Biden signed a Presidential Memorandum seeking to protect medication abortion and all federal agencies have reported on progress implementing it.
A deal between Democrats and Republicans to restore the expand the Child Tax Credit cleared its first step in Congress by being voted out of the House Ways and Means Committee. The Child Tax Credit would affect 16 million kids in the first year and lift 400,000 out of poverty. The Deal also includes an expansion of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit which will lead to 200,000 new low income rental units being built, and also tax relief to people affected by natural disasters
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted for a bill to allow President Biden to seize $5 billion in Russian central bank assets. Biden froze the assets at the beginning of Russia's war against Ukraine, but under this new bill could distribute these funds to Ukraine, Republican Rand Paul was the only vote against.
The Senate passed the "Train More Nurses Act" seeking to address the critical national shortage of nurses. It aims to increase pathways for LPNs to become RNs as well as a review of all nursing programs nationally to see where improvements can be made
3 more Biden Judges were confirmed, bring the total number of Judges appointed by President Biden to 171. For the first time in history the majority of federal judge nominees have not been white men. Biden has also appointed Public Defenders and civil rights attorneys breaking the model of corporate lawyers usually appointed to life time federal judgeships

✨ You Are American, Poor, and Have Some Sort of Health Problem ✨
This is not intended to say these things are easy to obtain or will be obtainable in every single circumstance. But especially for new adults, people who just started having health problems, people who have recently fallen on hard times, you may see things that you didn't know about.
Ethics:
Brush up on your patient rights. Knowing your rights and options is important.
Every hospital has a patient rights advocate.
There are typically state-wide patient rights and disability rights organizations.
There are state and federal boards that practitioners are licensed in. Reporting a practitioner to the board does NOT require a lawyer or court money. You are just reporting them/their behavior for the board(s) to investigate.
Cost:
Medicaid is a government program based on income, not disability. You can enroll during Open Enrollment at the end of the year or in special circumstances. This is the most commonly known one.
State, county, or city health insurance programs. Likely not available in very rural areas, but sometimes is. There is often a program for individuals who are low income but ineligible for Medicaid--each program has different names. Calling 2-1-1 or searching "state/county/city low income health insurance" will bring it up.
Hospital Charity Care. Charity Care are laws that exist in states that says people under a certain income level can have their medical costs/debts waived. The exact specifics will depend on the state. Hospitals try to hide this info on their website so if you can't find it best to ask directly for a charity care application and about eligibility with the billing dept or patient rights advocate.
Community clinics and teaching institutions generally offer very low cost care, and community clinics in particular will let you know about programs you may be eligible for.
There may be prescription cost help programs in your area.
Vocational Rehabilitation is a government program that exists in every state. Their goal is to get you functioning well enough to work or go to school. Which means they will pay for: doctors appts including diagnostic tests, disability aids, training, school costs, etc. You will not owe them if you end up unable to work/go to school.
You can write off medical costs and medically necessary items on your taxes. You can also get your taxes done for free if you're low income. Just let them know the costs if you aren't doing it yourself. This includes accessible home renovations, disability aids, regular appointment costs.
Search for bill help in your area or call 2-1-1 again. Much of the time, there will be charity organizations that assist with all sorts of bills. Most of them will be churches.
If you have a condition that is generally costly, you probably know this but if you don't, search "[condition] charity". Sometimes there are orgs that exist specifically to help fund care for that condition, eg the various MS orgs.
IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR SSI/SSDI: be very aware that amounts you fundraise may be counted as your income/assets unless you SPECIFICALLY tell them that you're getting it as charity/on loan! If you are currently on SSI, fundraising from your personal acct does in fact affect your eligibility to stay on SSI. Be careful.
Logistics:
For transportation: sometimes, not always, there are local programs for getting you to/from doctors appointments. This can be helpful if public transport is not accessible to you.
Disability lawyers do not cost you money up front, they take the money from your backpay IF you win your case.

Billionaire fossil fuel mogul David Koch died August 23, 2019. Though he will rightfully be remembered for his role in the destruction of the earth, David Koch’s influence went far beyond climate denial. Ronald Reagan may have uttered the famous words, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem” back in 1981—but it was David Koch, along with his elder brother Charles and a cabal of other ultrarich individuals, who truly reframed the popular view of government. Once a democratic tool used to shape the country’s future, government became seen as something intrusive and inefficient—indeed, something to be feared.
“While Charles was the mastermind of the social reengineering of the America he envisioned,” said Lisa Graves, co-director of the corporate watchdog group Documented, “David was an enthusiastic lieutenant.”
David Koch was particularly instrumental in legitimizing anti-government ideology—one the GOP now holds as gospel. In 1980, the younger Koch ran as the vice-presidential nominee for the nascent Libertarian Party. And a newly unearthed document shows Koch personally donated more than $2 million to the party—an astounding amount for the time—to promote the Ed Clark–David Koch ticket.
“Few people realize that the anti-American government antecedent to the Tea Party was fomented in the late ’70s with money from Charles and David Koch,” Graves continued. “The Libertarian Party, fueled in part with David’s wealth, pushed hard on the idea that government was the problem and the free market was the solution to everything.”
In fact, according to Graves, “The Koch-funded Libertarian Party helped spur on Ronald Reagan’s anti-government, free-market-solves-all agenda as president.”
Even by contemporary standards, the 1980 Libertarian Party platform was extreme. It called for the abolition of a wide swath of federal agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Bureau of Land Management, the Federal Election Commission, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Federal Trade Commission, and “all government agencies concerned with transportation.” It railed against campaign finance and consumer protection laws, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, any regulations of the firearm industry (including tear gas), and government intervention in labor negotiations. And the platform demanded the repeal of all taxation, and sought amnesty for those convicted of tax “resistance.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Koch and his libertarian allies moreover advocated for the repeal of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other social programs. They wanted to abolish federally mandated speed limits. They opposed occupational licensure, antitrust laws, labor laws protecting women and children, and “all controls on wages, prices, rents, profits, production, and interest rates.” And in true libertarian fashion, the platform urged the privatization of all schools (with an end to compulsory education laws), the railroad system, public roads and the national highway system, inland waterways, water distribution systems, public lands, and dam sites.
The Libertarian Party never made much of a splash in the election—though it did garner almost 12 percent of the vote in Alaska—but doing so was never the point. Rather, the Kochs were engaged in a long-term effort to normalize the aforementioned ideas and mainstream them into American politics.

Your tattoos are SICK why are you in Indiana 🫠
honestly?
Indiana is a nice state to live in, I've not felt more at home anywhere else. My partner and I bought a house here 2 years ago, the cost of living is cheap/affordable, I live in a very queer-positive city, there's a lot to see and do here!
We have great restaurants, we're a very diverse city, we're centrally located to most of the other midwestern major metro areas (chicago/detroit/cincy/lexington/toledo), we've got pretty good public transport, we've got a huge queer community, we run and help support queer markets...
WHAT ELSE... Let me ask roach.
He says nice parks, great green spaces, a conservatory, a great zoo, great art events, we have a maker space, we even have an art museum that had an alphonse mucha exhibit a while back!
If you like a healthy blend of nature and city with a lot of queer diverse flavor thrown in, fort wayne is really the place to be.
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to say, we have some of the best and most comprehensive and easy-to-get medicaid (state health insurance) in the country.
It's how I got my top surgery covered with no cost to me :)

hi!! a bitch is broke (✿;◕‿◕)
Tumblr media
name's Okomo and I haven't had to do something like this since my diagnosis and initial treatment for cancer, but yeah. this non-binary African creative is broke and needs help.
Tumblr media
So if (and only if) you personally have some coins and/or cash to spare, I'd love to not worry about groceries (very urgent), my phone and internet (recently paid), and general life expenses (transportation, cat food, wellness, weed) for the rest of May. and I should prob have a goal so:
$0/$500
Please supplement a like with a reblog! I have tips enabled on here, but it's probably best to stick with PayPal and CashApp: I'm hotmessfic on both.
what, you want details or somethin? k fine
Last October, I was hit by a pick-up truck while crossing the street in broad daylight, on the way to work. Three weeks after that I was fired from that new job.
It's been a mess and struggle to make progress on my insurance claim (still waiting nearly 6 months later) and to receive benefits (finally got Medicaid in March, after 3 months of waiting). I spent the holidays visiting family and all of February in Spain doing cancer check-ups. The job hunt hasn't been fruitful since getting back in March, mainly because I had plans to accompany my mother for a surgery in Turkey this month — something that I finally confirmed last week is delayed indefinitely.
I legit just need some support for this month (May) and should be good after. The move back to the States has been no joke! I'm over this country lol

WHERE IN THE WORLD HAS DECADE BEEN?
Tumblr media
fantastic question, really!
to make a long story short: florida's systems to renew one's medicaid are fucked. my mom's medicaid renewal was due in february and i accidentally submitted her application a few days late, which in their eyes was considered untimely and although i asked for them to expedite her application, they made us wait the full thirty days for it to be approved, even though i was on them pretty hard to actually get it approved faster.
last week saturday is when it was finally approved and i've been busy getting things set back up for my mom as far as her needs are concerned.
as for myself, i've been trying to take care of my own health, however that's been an uphill battle lately since i currently don't have any means of reliable transportation to take myself to appointments and uber / lyft is expensive. i'm hoping, though, that my car troubles will be fixed shortly, though, so that i can try to get out of my house more often.
i know i tend to say it a lot, but i really appreciate everyone's patience while i've been trying to get things back on track. roleplay / tumblr has admittedly taken a backseat as far as priorities are concerned, however i'm hoping that i can make a return here soon when things finally calm down.
i hope everyone's been okay and i miss y'all a lot. ♥

🚨🚨UPDATED ON 9/18/22 VERY TIME SENSITIVE!!! PLEASE HELP PREVENT A RECENTLY UNEMPLOYED SINGLE MOM W/ 2 MENTALLY DISABLED KIDS BECOME HOMELESS & GAIN ACCESS TO CRITICALLY NEEDED BASIC NECESSARY ESSENTIALS
My names Lara Davis, I am a 50-year-old mother of 2 (boys with Aspergers). I’m currently unemployed, I just lost my previous job -just 5-6 weeks ago- due to having to calling off too much for unexpected scary detrimentally medical conditions . Right now I’m waiting to hear back from a couple different jobs that I had applied to a week or so ago, but we’ve been drowning in unpaid bills and unable to access our crucially necessary prescription medications from the pharmacy but since I haven’t been able to afford our medical insurance this past month and aren’t currently covered by Medicaid yet, our medication co-payments on all 3 of our monthly prescriptions and have now increasingly grown excessively ridiculously high. To take care of our prescriptions to be granted access to them AND also attempt to catch us up on our bills that are stacking up (to get our electricity, gas and water utilities turned back on ASAP) AND also take care of our September rent that is well past due AND to be able to go get some desperately needed groceries and other basic everyday essentials from the store l(ike toilet paper, body wash, hand soap, food and drink, etc. ) So PLEASE ANYTHING, and I CANNOT THOROUGHLY EXPRESS ENOUGH IN WORDS THAT ABSOLUTELY ANY DONATIONS would be truly BEYOND beneficial, very appreciated and tbh even potentially life saving at this point! Altogether we need: September Rent - which costs $889 (AND IS WELL PAST DUE ~ VERY CRUCIALLY TIME SENSITIVE ~) ALL 3 OF OUR VITALLY ESSENTIAL monthly prescription meds copays altogether - which costs $196 Groceries/Toiletries/Basic Everyday Necessities/A few essentials that are critically, beneficially necessary to help assist me in being properly prepared for any and all possible upcoming job interviews/Transportation (b/c my car was already repo’d — to/from:doc apps/grocery store/pharmacy/kids’ school/potential job interviews) Altogether - which would approx. Cost $465
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME & ENERGY by reading this semi-long post! It means beyond the world to us! & ONCE AGAIN, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, ANY & EVERY DONATION IS SINCERELY APPRECIATED & TRULY HIGHLY BENEFICIAL TOWARDS THE STABILITY & FUTURE OF MY FAMILY’S SURVIVAL!! 💜💛🧡🙏🏼
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
UPDATE AS OF 9/17/22 -
Weve gratefully received approx. $50/approx. $2288 of our goal so far! We’re desperately hoping for someone.. ANYONE🙏🏼😞🥺 to break the ice & bless us with ANY SORT of donation.. I can ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE that ANY & EVERYTHING is SINCERELY appreciated & BEYOND HIGHLY beneficial !! PLEASE ! ANYTHING HELPS, I promise! Sorry to be SO terribly pathetic & be in such a embarrassing position to have to beg so humiliatingly for life saving financial assistance.. Thank you for reading ! 💜🙏🏼🥺💛

hooray! my housing situation is back to square one! because my case manager took a month-long leave and didnt properly communicate with the lesbian couple that i was going to enter a shared living arrangement with. so they got frustrated and didnt want to work with her or my new temp CM anymore. which leaves me completely in the fucking lurch AGAIN starting from square one
and this new cm had the fucking gall to ask me if i could just move in with roommates on my own. no, i have multiple disabilities that currently make it impossible for me to live independently. i cant get a job because i have no access to consistent transport to GET to a job. no i cant just fucking take the bus because there is NO PUBLIC TRANSPORT WHERE I LIVE. and i cant just go to any adult driving lessons because i have MULTIPLE DISABILITIES that require someone with a certain skillset to be able to teach me. and adult driving lessons are hundreds of dollars. and the tutors i CAN get also get busy with schools during the school season and so aren't available consistently. fuck man
i went to a school for disabled people that were always looking for drivers education teachers but no agency would teach to us because there weren't enough students. so now i'm fucked
god damn it man i feel so unheard and uncared for. even my therapist kicked me out because she felt she couldn't do anything else for me, and assured me that someone who does EMDR and takes medicaid would be quick to find. it's been several months now and we've had no luck. even getting that generalized therapist took months and considering my psych and current temp cm both think i still need one i'll HOPEFULLY (not likely) get a NEW therapist in four to six months. who i'll have to explain all of my shit to again. which i am so fucking sick of, it's become so routine to just share all of the intimate details of my traumas and disabilities because every time a case manager switches over they're like "oh i'll provide all the information they need" AND IT'S ALWAYS A LIE.
fuck man social workers keep fucking my life up and setting me back by months if not years and its really painful, i dont know what to fucking do anymore
