Beware! Potential growth's peaking out!
Siege and Storm- Chapter 11
Tumblr media
LOL
Alina doesn't know anything the Darkling himself didn't tell her.
Tumblr media
Forget artist!
Modern!Alina would be a member of doomsday cult!
Just... what does she built her hypotheses on? Baghra's words about Aleksander and her own fatalism?!
Tumblr media
Frodo, halfway to Mordor:
Yeah, I shouldn't talk much about the Ring. Sam doesn't want to go to Mount Doom already. What if he turns around and bails on me? I'd have to abandon my quest alongside him...
For a person certain the world's about to end, unless she "stops" the Darkling, Alina sure lacks determination.
Tumblr media
No, you only wanted her to inform her rapist about Darkles' plans... I'm sure that would result into heartfelt apology and her promotion from a cocksleeve to respected member of household.
Tumblr media
Alina, repeat after me: There's nothing wrong with becoming flushed, when an attractive man touches your bare skin, especially on parts not used for casual contact. It doesn't make you a wanton whore or fallen peasant girl, and it doesn't mean you're provoking further intimacies.
Gods! I so wish to shake her or at least watch her overcome her prudish upbringing.
Tumblr media
Thought 1- Genya might be in trouble.
Thought 2- ... and what about poor lonely Alina?!
Subtle, but I'd more appreciate spiralling due to Genya's possible fate. Alina believes the Darkling to be heartless monster and theoretically understands mechanics of offence and punishment. Yet Genya's situations is a possiblity, Alina's feelings regarding herself certainty.
Tumblr media
Alina's sense of duty's quite something. Especially for a lowly peasant. Instead of learning, she's learning new excuses she can use to get away with bare minimum.
I don't think actually poor person with no real status (lineage AND money) would attempt such thing. She constantly treats her "betters" as nuisances, equals at best. While not perhaps actively insulting, she's hardly behaving properly. Exactly in a way that cannot be ascribed to her origin.
Perhaps Nikolai should try acting like a Royal Prince towards her sometime. Remind her of their priorities, instead of tactfully insinuating she's forgetting to be discreet about her preferences of company.
Tumblr media
Darling, uniforms have their purpose. And it's not only to make people hate you. Sure, a lovely LITTLE pin will make it obvious, who belongs to your retinue...
I didn't want uniforms.
The uniform in itself distinguishes members of the military from civilians, but also from one another (infantry, artillery, navy, and later air force).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've read "they" and immediately went back, because that didn't sound like Alina at all. It seems too little sleep might conjure caring heroine, yet not even that's enough for the rest of the brain to believe it.
Tumblr media
Oh dear, how shall Tolya cope?!
Look! A place for character development! Now's the time to set up for realization the Darkling was right to require his subordinates' obedience. Yes, that incudes you, Alina...
Tumblr media
It's shocking to see Alina act as the voice of reason. If only her perception remained at all times.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly sound logic on Alina's part.
Tumblr media
Sleeping under the same roof as potential assassins?!
Tumblr media
What's the point of all these parallels or at least similar situations offering them, if Alina won't connect the dots and change her worldview?
Why should I admire Alina's courage to accept and offer protection to possible traitors without granting the same courtesy to Aleksander?
Because she's the MC? Because she's the Sun Summoner, therefore a greater target?
Yeah, and Sasha's The Black General, the most powerful Grisha alive AND a living amplifier...
Tumblr media
She ain't completely stupid! I'm officially rooting for THIS Alina to stick around!

I have so many questions about Morozova's amplifiers but none more than the Sea Whip. How did that work? Yeah, he caught a stag and he used his daughter's corpse but Rusalye is just a mystery. Did he go on a little adventure, capture it, made an amplifier and then return home? His abode did not look so lavish so I don't know how he would pull the funds for that. Did he capture a little sea whip, did his experiments and then released him into the wild? How ild was this guy? What else did he plan to do?

Watching episode 1 of Shadow and Bone season 2:
Okay, let me get this straight...
The protagonist, whom the narrative says is soooo good and pure and morally upright: is on a quest to kill a bunch of ancient sentient animals so she can steal their power.
The antagonist, who we are told again and again is SUPER evil: is freeing his people, who are being imprisoned and killed due to how they were born, and fighting against the oppressors.
The cognitive dissonance is killing me. I don't know if I can bring myself to watch more.

Kirigan/Darkling: *cuts off Baghra's finger*
Baghra: Son of a bitch!!!!!
Kirigan/Darkling: You said it, not me.
Kirigan/Darkling: Get that down to the lab and see what's on the slab what can be done about turning this into an amplifier.
David: Umm, doesn't the...creature that an amplifier comes from have to be dead, in order for it to work?
Kirigan/Darkling: *prods at the finger*
Kirigan/Darkling: Looks pretty dead to me.
David: i hate my life

Do you think it is possible that Darkling knew that alina would lose her powers because of the three amplifiers and he would be there so he would get those powers?
It's an interesting question, but I don't think so. There's a technical aspect here, which is that he did not get her power, only otkazat'sya did, so on that level if he'd known how the amplifiers actually worked he would have known he wouldn't get it. But that aside: more than anything, he wanted someone to suffer eternity alongside him, and when he lost his mom, Alina was the only other option. He was bereft when she lost her power. He would never have sacrificed a companion for more Grisha power; he would never have let her sacrifice that.
Additionally ... I do not see him as particularly wanting more Grisha power for himself. I view him as pragmatic, or at least thinking of himself as such – if Alina wasn't going to cooperate with his plans, controlling her power was the easiest thing. If he'd wanted more Grisha power, he would have tried the amplifier trick long ago.
Related conspiracy theory time: my headcanon here is that he believes himself to be close to the limits of Grisha power – he's a powerful Grisha and an amplifier, and he lives sooooooo much longer than anyone else except Baghra. The two of them are far, by far, the most powerful Grisha in the trilogy. Because we are told over and over again that the only thing that can kill immortal Grisha is their own power, my headcanon is that he's never tried getting an amplifier (or risked connecting to one like he does with Alina) for fear that the sheer volume of power would push him past some invisible threshold of power that his body can hold, and kill him.

“When Genya’s abilities began to show themselves, I could have had her choose between becoming a Fabrikator or a Corporalnik. ...”
Shadow and Bone- Chapter 7
What she described was no mundane poison, but the craft of a girl somewhere between Corporalnik and Fabrikator. A girl who had spent plenty of time in the Materialki workshops.
Ruin and Rising- Chapter 7
Meanwhile, David and Genya bent their heads over one of his notebooks, trying to figure out where they could extract the components for a batch of lumiya. It turned out Genya didn’t just have a gift for poisons. Her talents had always lain somewhere between Corporalnik and Materialnik, but I wondered what she might have become, what path she might have chosen, if not for the Darkling’s influence.
Ruin and Rising- Chapter 15
Give the Stag to David?
Why not?! But I raise you- give Morozova’s amplifiers to Genya, who’s clever herself and already has natural inclination for crossing the boundaries between the Orders.
She should be the new Ilya Morozova!
With equally intelligent spouse and the original Morozova’s diaries, she’d figure out the world, while making it even look good.

So, speaking of season 3... I'm curious about what would be Mal's storyline in the next season. The guy just found out about his family and his amplifier status just one day ago before he decided to die and literally died. So when he finally gets on his own and has time to heal, has time to process things, would he be interested in learning more about his root? Morozova family? Since their story still tied to "consequence of using merzost", "creating amplifiers" and Shadow Summoners, which will also tie to dark!Alina arc in season 3 (and possibly potential solutions). Besides, Mal has spent time studying and reading stuff when he searched for the Firebird (I wish they had shown us more about it) and that's how he learnt about Sankta Neyar and the Neshyener Sword. He might have time to do a little side mission before (or while) he and the crew are trying to find out what the heck of a mess are happening in Ravka xD
And since he brought back to life by merzost (the same thing that Baghara's father did to bring back her sister), what will happen to him now? What is he now? What is the consequence of using merzost that Baghra has warned them about, is it truly just about Alina? So many questions.

Rambling about The Demon in the Wood graphic novel (part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks like they’re draining the bear of the blood which to me feels like a call back to in the show when Baghra said “his blood and his bones amplify a Grisha’s power” cause I think it’s not just bones, you could use the blood of an amplifier as well but harvesting the bones is easier. I hated this part though cause ITS WASTED. NOBODY EVEN GOT TO CLAIM IT FUCK.

THIS WAS THE BEST AND WORST WAY TO SHOW HER FINDING OUT!!!!!
I just…how in comparison to near the beginning with how flimsy her power looked and then when Aleksander grabbed her hand and THIS happens. FUCK! THE COGS ARE TURNING IN HER HEAD —————————————————————————

“I don’t want you to leave”
Me, who knows what’s coming up: Don’t.

The fact that it looks like she already knows even before he told her THAT MAKES IT WORST!

“I’m sorry,” he whispered.

So, according to King of Scars, the real way to merge with the amplifiers is to actually transform into the animal ?!
Can someone explain this madness to me ?!
Where does it come from ? How do the characters learn this information ?
Did the Darkling know ?
If he knew, why didn't he ever use this real method with his grisha ? Conversely, if he did not know, how is it even possible, since we are talking about the most powerful Grisha in existence, and who as a bonus is immortal ?!
I haven't read the king of scars duology so honestly I haven't the foggiest. If anyone who has read the books is able to give us an answer then please do. The whole thing is very confusing to me. I mean it is hinted at that there is another way when Alina hesitates to kill the stag in season 1 and then when she mentions she thinks she can take the sea whips power without killing it in season 2. But it makes me wonder if Alina had figured out how to do it without killing them would she have gained the ability to turn into all three amplifiers, a multiform shapeshifter, like Maui from Moana. Which means she could shapeshift into the stag, the sea whip and...mal!?
