The open internet once seemed inevitable. Now, as global economic woes mount and interest rates climb, the dream of the 2000s feels like it’s on its last legs. After abruptly blocking access to unregistered users at the end of last month, Elon Musk announced unprecedented caps on the number of tweets—600 for those of us who aren’t paying $8 a month—that users can read per day on Twitter. The move follows the platform’s controversial choice to restrict third-party clients back in January.
This wasn’t a standalone event. Reddit announced in April that it would begin charging third-party developers for API calls this month. The Reddit client Apollo would have to pay more than $20 million a year under new pricing, so it closed down, triggering thousands of subreddits to go dark in protest against Reddit’s new policy. The company went ahead with its plan anyway.
Leaders at both companies have blamed this new restrictiveness on AI companies unfairly benefitting from open access to data. Musk has said that Twitter needs rate limits because AI companies are scraping its data to train large language models. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has cited similar reasons for the company’s decision to lock down its API ahead of a potential IPO this year.
These statements mark a major shift in the rhetoric and business calculus of Silicon Valley. AI serves as a convenient boogeyman, but it is a distraction from a more fundamental pivot in thinking. Whereas open data and protocols were once seen as the critical cornerstone of successful internet business, technology leaders now see these features as a threat to the continued profitability of their platforms.
It wasn’t always this way. The heady days of Web 2.0 were characterized by a celebration of the web as a channel through which data was abundant and widely available. Making data open through an API or some other means was considered a key way to increase a company’s value. Doing so could also help platforms flourish as developers integrated the data into their own apps, users enriched datasets with their own contributions, and fans shared products widely across the web. The rapid success of sites like Google Maps—which made expensive geospatial data widely available to the public for the first time—heralded an era where companies could profit through free, mass dissemination of information.
“Information Wants To Be Free” became a rallying cry. Publisher Tim O’Reilly would champion the idea that business success in Web 2.0 depended on companies “disagreeing with the consensus” and making data widely accessible rather than keeping it private. Kevin Kelly marveled in WIRED in 2005 that “when a company opens its databases to users … [t]he corporation’s data becomes part of the commons and an invitation to participate. People who take advantage of these capabilities are no longer customers; they’re the company’s developers, vendors, skunk works, and fan base.” Investors also perceived the opportunity to generate vast wealth. Google was “most certainly the standard bearer for Web 2.0,” and its wildly profitable model of monetizing free, open data was deeply influential to a whole generation of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
Of course, the ideology of Web 2.0 would not have evolved the way it did were it not for the highly unusual macroeconomic conditions of the 2000s and early 2010s. Thanks to historically low interest rates, spending money on speculative ventures was uniquely possible. Financial institutions had the flexibility on their balance sheets to embrace the idea that the internet reversed the normal laws of commercial gravity: It was possible for a company to give away its most valuable data and still get rich quick. In short, a zero interest-rate policy, or ZIRP, subsidized investor risk-taking on the promise that open data would become the fundamental paradigm of many Google-scale companies, not just a handful.
Web 2.0 ideologies normalized much of what we think of as foundational to the web today. User tagging and sharing features, freely syndicated and embeddable links to content, and an ecosystem of third-party apps all have their roots in the commitments made to build an open web. Indeed, one of the reasons that the recent maneuvers of Musk and Huffman seem so shocking is that we have come to expect data will be widely and freely available, and that platforms will be willing to support people that build on it.
But the marriage between the commercial interests of technology companies and the participatory web has always been one of convenience. The global campaign by central banks to curtail inflation through aggressive interest rate hikes changes the fundamental economics of technology. Rather than facing a landscape of investors willing to buy into a hazy dream of the open web, leaders like Musk and Huffman now confront a world where clear returns need to be seen today if not yesterday.
This presages major changes ahead for the design of the internet and the rights of users. Twitter and Reddit are pioneering an approach to platform management (or mismanagement) that will likely spread elsewhere across the web. It will become increasingly difficult to access content without logging in, verifying an identity, or paying a toll. User data will become less exportable and less shareable, and there will be increasingly fewer expectations that it will be preserved. Third-parties that have relied on the free flow of data online—from app-makers to journalists—will find APIs ever more expensive to access and scraping harder than ever before.
We should not let the open web die a quiet death. No doubt much of the foundational rhetoric of Web 2.0 is cringeworthy in the harsh light of 2023. But it is important to remember that the core project of building a participatory web where data can be shared, improved, critiqued, remixed, and widely disseminated by anyone is still genuinely worthwhile.
The way the global economic landscape is shifting right now creates short-sighted incentives toward closure. In response, the open web ought to be enshrined as a matter of law. New regulations that secure rights around the portability of user data, protect the continued accessibility of crucial APIs to third parties, and clarify the long-ambiguous rules surrounding scraping would all help ensure that the promise of a free, dynamic, competitive internet can be preserved in the coming decade.
For too long, advocates for the open web have implicitly relied on naive beliefs that the network is inherently open, or that web companies would serve as unshakable defenders of their stated values. The opening innings of the post-ZIRP world show how broader economic conditions have actually played the larger role in architecting how the internet looks and feels to this point. Believers in a participatory internet need to reach for stronger tools to mitigate the effects of these deep economic shifts, ensuring that openness can continue to be embedded into the spaces that we inhabit online.

This is all from Wikipedia as well to highlight that Jesus Christ wasn't being antisemitic or a traitor, he was being a freedom fighter for all native Israelis against actual Roman-loyalist traitors:
In Jerusalem, Herod introduced foreign forms of entertainment, and erected a golden eagle at the entrance of the Temple, which suggested a greater interest in the welfare of Rome than of Jews. Herod's taxes garnered a bad reputation: his constant concern for his reputation led him to make frequent, expensive gifts, increasingly emptying the kingdom's coffers, and such lavish spending upset his Jewish subjects.
The two major Jewish sects of the day, the Pharisees and the Sadducees, both showed opposition to Herod. The Pharisees were discontented because Herod disregarded many of their demands with respect to the Temple's construction.
The Sadducees, who were closely associated with priestly responsibilities in the Temple, opposed Herod because he replaced their high priests with outsiders from Babylonia and Alexandria, in an effort to gain support from the Jewish Diaspora.
Herod's outreach efforts gained him little, and at the end of his reign anger and dissatisfaction were common amongst Jews.
Heavy outbreaks of violence and riots followed Herod's death in many cities, including Jerusalem, as pent-up resentments boiled over. The scope of the disturbances sparked hopes that the Jews of Judea might some day overthrow the Roman overlords, hopes reawakened decades later in the outbreak of the First Jewish-Roman War in 66 CE.
Stanley: one who comes from a stone-filled/stony clearing/meadow. (Wikipedia)
Matthew 21:37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said. Matthew 21:38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ Matthew 21:39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Matthew 21:40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” Matthew 21:41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.” Matthew 21:42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “’The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? Matthew 21:43 “Therefore I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. Matthew 21:44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
The antisemitic, genocidal, ethnic cleansing, and antichrist Sunday "Lord's Day" is a parents, plus 4 generation curse upon all who bend their knees to it. That means that every self-proclaimed "Christian" (follower of the indigenous Israeli Jewish prophet and Christian Messiah known as Jesus Christ) is cursing themselves, their partner or spouse, their children, their children's children, their children's grandchildren, and their children's great-grandchildren every single Sunday of their entire antisemitic antichrist lives that they proclaim themselves the "True Lord of the Sabbath" by intentionally disobeying and ignoring the commandments of the Almighty Abrahamic God.
However, just as Jonah learned at Nineveh, the curse on all generations is lifted at the moment of true repentance and course correction.
The Lord's Day in Christianity is generally Sunday, the principal day of communal worship. It is observed by most Christians as the weekly memorial of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is said in the canonical Gospels to have been witnessed alive from the dead early on the first day of the week. According to some sources, Christians held the Sabbath as resting day, commemorating the God's Commandment, which said that the Sabbath should be the day of resting, according to Exodus. 20:08. (Wikipedia)
Roman historian Tacitus referred to "Christus" and his execution by Pontius Pilate in his Annals (written c. AD 116), book 15, chapter 44. Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular.
Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired. Nero offered his gardens for the spectacle, and was exhibiting a show in the circus, while he mingled with the people in the dress of a charioteer or stood aloft on a car. Hence, even for criminals who deserved extreme and exemplary punishment, there arose a feeling of compassion; for it was not, as it seemed, for the public good, but to glut one man's cruelty, that they were being destroyed. (Wikipedia)
After Constantine the Great's in 321 and the Council of Laodicea from 363, the Christian rulers decided that the commandment of God is no more valid, now being needed to follow the commandments of people, switching in this sense the day of rest to Sunday, and by 361 AD it had become a mandated weekly occurrence.
“Our regard for the Lord’s resurrection, which took place on the Lord’s Day, will lead us to celebrate it on the same principle ”
“And all things whatsoever that it was the duty to do on the Sabbath, these we have transferred to the Lord’s Day as more honorable than the Jewish Sabbath.”
“Christians ought not to Judaize and to rest in the Sabbath, but to work in that day; but preferring the Lord’s Day, should rest, if possible, as Christians. Wherefore if they shall be found to Judaize, let them be accursed from Christ.” (Wikipedia)
In Christian eschatology, the Antichrist refers to people prophesied by the Bible to oppose Jesus Christ and substitute themselves in Christ's place before the Second Coming. (Wikipedia)
The term Antichrist (including one plural form) is found four times in the New Testament, solely in the First and Second Epistle of John. The Antichrist is announced as the one "who denies the Father and the Son." The similar term pseudokhristos or "false Christ" is also found in the Gospels. In Matthew (chapter 24) and Mark (chapter 13), Jesus alerts his disciples not to be deceived by the false prophets, who will claim themselves to be the Christ, performing "great signs and wonders". Three other images often associated with the Antichrist are the "little horn" in Daniel's final vision, the "man of sin" in Paul the Apostle's Second Epistle to the Thessalonians, and the Beast of the Sea in the Book of Revelation. Now, however, Reddit is seeking large payments from app makers to maintain that same level of access through its application programming interface (API), in a move apparently aimed at better monetizing Reddit users. Last week Christian Selig, developer of the popular Apollo app, said Reddit wanted to charge him $20 million a year to keep his app running. He later said he has no choice but to close down the app. Reddit further inflamed tensions with some in its developer community by appearing to misrepresent the details of its private conversation with Selig to suggest he had blackmailed the company. Selig, however, recorded his phone call with the company, a fact Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman later acknowledged in a Q&A with users. Selig’s app is just one casualty of the coming changes. Critics of Reddit say the platform’s steep fees will kill off all third-party competition against Reddit’s proprietary app, which many users have derided as slow, buggy and inferior. They also fear the moves will decimate a volunteer community that relies on third-party tools to do the critical work of moderating Reddit forums — responsibility Reddit delegates to users of the site rather than to its own paid employees or to contractors, unlike some other large social networks. Reddit’s defenders, including some users, have said it is Reddit’s right to set its own prices for API access, and that it is a business entitled to control how users access the data on the platform it provides. Some users have said they were not even aware it is possible to access Reddit from third-party apps. “Reddit needs to be a self-sustaining business, and to do that, we can no longer subsidize commercial entities that require large-scale data use,” Huffman wrote in a Q&A with users Friday. The battle echoes how Twitter, under its new owner Elon Musk, recently announced its own paywall for data in a bid to develop new revenue sources and to shore up the company’s struggling finances. Twitter’s move prompted an outcry from third-party app makers, misinformation researchers and public service account-holders who said the move would harm transparency and accessibility. Twitter has responded to the criticism by adding a new tier to its paid plan, but the move was instantly blasted as too little, too late. Now Reddit faces a similar revolt, one that may prove even more effective in light of its greater reliance on community members for the site’s basic upkeep. The stakes of the fight are not limited to Reddit alone. It takes place against the backdrop of a wider debate about who creates the value in social networks, and who gets to reap the rewards. And it reflects years of mounting public skepticism of large technology platforms that became economically dominant through the collection and exploitation of vast troves of other people’s personal information. For Reddit and its future shareholders, the company’s value derives from the infrastructure the site provides for conversation. Operating that infrastructure, safeguarding what is stored there and charging for access to that proprietary data generates value that Reddit believes it should be able to keep. For Reddit’s developers and moderators, however, the platform’s value derives not just from the company’s operation of the platform but also in the user-led moderation of the site’s countless forums, as well as the various tools and features that others have created to make Reddit more useable — for example, for the blind and visually impaired. Those solutions may not have been built by Reddit itself, but the company benefited from them in that they helped the site grow and reach wider audiences. To a degree unlike Instagram or YouTube, Reddit owes its rise to the volunteer work of many of its users who bore the costs of developing features that the company did not see fit to invest in. In that respect, Reddit more closely resembles Wikipedia, the crowd-sourced digital encyclopedia whose volunteer editors are viewed as a vital resource. Now, though, many users feel betrayed. “If they’re going to start charging for API calls, [moderators] should start charging reddit for their time keeping the website functioning,” one user wrote. “This site ONLY functions on the backs of free labor from mods.” Some have vowed to stop using Reddit, and others have suggested they may even scrub their entire account so that the company cannot monetize their historical activity. “For a large number of Apollos users, it’s existence is the only reason we’re still using the platform,” another user wrote. “I’ve been here 15+ years, but have no intention of sticking around once Apollo goes dark.”

Spruce Street Baptist Church is one of the oldest African American churches in Nashville. It is one of three churches to evolve out of Nashville’s First Colored Baptist Church (1865-1891). In 1835 First Colored Baptist Church began with separate prayer services for the African American members of First Baptist Church. By 1848 it became a church mission when the white congregation of First Baptist Church, Nashville permitted its African American members to hold separate religious services and conduct church business from the white congregation. Nelson G. Merry, a manumitted slave who served as a church sexton at First Baptist Church and who was ordained a minister in November 1853, became the first African American to lead the mission. First Baptist Church however retained jurisdiction over the mission until 1865 when the African American congregation petitioned to become an independent congregation. On August 13 of that year, First Colored Baptist Church was approved to establish its charter and became the first African American church in Nashville and the state of Tennessee. First Baptist Church, recognizing that the Civil War ended slavery, chose to relinquish its control over this African American congregation. Nelson G. Merry continued to lead the new church. By 1873, FCBC, with approximately 3,000 members, built its first edifice at the corner of North Spruce Street and 8th Avenue North. The Church took the name Spruce Street Baptist Church. Rev. Nelson G. Merry, the only pastor to lead FCBC (now Spruce Street Baptist), died. Rev. Tom R. Huffman became pastor in 1885. Two years later in 1887, Rev. Huffman led Spruce Street parishioners who broke away to create Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The remaining Spruce Street members continued to worship under Rev. M.W. Gilbert. Throughout the 20th century, Spruce Street Baptist Church has been instrumental in promoting Baptist leadership and engaging in civic endeavors throughout Nashville. Spruce Street Baptist Church has worked closely with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck53ei9LNAF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

As the lead impeachment manager he couldn’t possibly have done a better job. “The courage that he has shown in the face of unthinkable personal tragedy has been something to behold. The courage that he has shown in the face of unthinkable personal tragedy has been something to behold Laurence Tribe “He is one of the most impressive students that I have ever come to know and is also an extremely impressive human being,” he said. Tribe recalls that Raskin and his wife, Sarah, met in his class on the constitution. Raskin graduated from Georgetown day school in 1979 then studied at Harvard and its law school, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review and his teachers included Professor Laurence Tribe. His mother, Barbara Bellman, was a journalist and novelist. His father, Marcus Raskin, was a young aide in John F Kennedy’s White House, a fierce activist against the Vietnam war and co-founder of the progressive thinktank the Institute for Policy Studies. “Maybe that has helped him to cope with the loss but I think the concern for those of us that are friends with Jamie is that, when this is all over, there could be a pretty hard fall back to grief and he’s going to need a lot of support.”

Jared Huffman, a co-founder with Raskin of the Congressional Freethought Caucus, said: “Who knew that almost immediately after that tragic day he would get this assignment and pretty quickly begin working full time on something of such historic importance?

In a trial focused on the excesses of a would-be strongman, Raskin’s very human displays of vulnerability have the quality of redemption. “They thought they were going to die,” he said, his voice cracking as he recalled apologising to Tabitha, 23, for putting her in danger. Raskin, 58, also told how his daughter Tabitha and son-in-law Hank accompanied him to the Capitol that day – and had to hide under a desk. Tommy was buried on 5 January – the day before a violent mob mounted a deadly insurrection at the US Capitol. They were doubly awed when he wove together the political and the personal to share unfathomable grief: his 25-year-old son, Tommy, killed himself on New Year’s Eve after years of struggle with depression. Senators, pundits and millions of TV viewers have heard his deceptively soothing tones eviscerate the former president. Just four years later, the proud progressive finds himself lead prosecutor in the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump. He had only taken office himself in January 2017, representing Maryland’s eighth congressional district. “Straight white men are already a minority in the Democratic caucus but when the big blue wave hits, we’re going to be moving much closer to parity in terms of women and men, at least on the House side,” he said, a prediction that came true a month later in the midterm elections.

My beloved cat is getting up there in years, and I want to get her stuffed when she dies, just to keep her and be able to see her, you know? But when I brought up the idea to my family, they all started hating on the idea and saying it was super creepy and that they wouldn’t come over to my apartment if I did get her preserved… do you have any advice or really anything that I could say to persuade them it’s not creepy, I just want to love my cat when she’s gone?
If that's how you feel is the best way to honor both the memory of your kitty and cope with the eventual loss of her, then your family should be at least willing to understand and empathize with your feelings. Working with pet clients has really shown me that it's about having something a little more than photos or ashes or a grave to remember them by. You're able to keep something tangible, a literal part of them. I honestly view that desire to preserve some part of your animal as a sign of just how much that person really loved their pet.
Pet taxidermy is...complicated. It was popularized in the Victorian era and then has fallen out of fashion due to a number of reasons. There's also not a ton of taxidermists who can do the proper custom work to make the animal look as it was in life. I believe I've talked about this before, but with cats and dogs specifically, they require completely custom work to look accurate. It's not the same as mounting a wild animal where people have a general idea of what an animal looks like. Pets have different quirks and expressions and personalities that their family knows from the years spent with them, and reconstructing that animal based on the idea of what a cat or dog looks like doesn't really cut it. You really have to know and study that animal for a while to get it right. This is why so many pet mounts do look a bit unsettling. The mount wouldn't look stiff or lifeless in the right hands.
Thankfully, it's much easier to achieve the level of accuracy needed to reconstruct pets accurately now with new technology/mounting processes and access to more photos of that specific pet. I've seen incredible modern work, and it seems as though as a whole that pet taxidermy is improving. Here's some incredible examples of some cats mounted by Huffman Taxidermy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The right artist/artists can really capture the essence of that animal in their work (source).
I'm sorry I don't have any solid 'tell them this' advice. I really don't try to convince people who aren't comfortable with taxidermy to be accepting of it. However, if you are comfortable with it and feel that's the best way for you to honor your pet, then go for it. The right taxidermist would be able to do such high quality work that even people who don't care for taxidermy could at least admit that the work itself looks pretty damn good.

The Riveting Red River Hog
Not to be confused with the African bushpig (although they occasionally share the same name), the red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus) is a type of pig native to the rainforests, wetlands, and savannahs of central Africa, although it has also been introduced to Madagascar. They are almost always found near rivers or swamps, as that tends to be the best area for finding food and keeping cool during the day, but they can also be seen near human settlements.
Compared to other members of the pig family, the red river hog has a very distinctive look. True to its name, it has bright orange or red fur all over its body, with a white stripe running down the back. The face is black with white markings, and the ears have distinctive tufts. Both males and females have white facial hair and tusks; the main difference between the two is that males have more prominent white “sideburns” and warts on the snout. Individuals range in size from 46 to 130kg and can be nearly 1m tall at shoulder height. Even then, they are considered the smallest of the African pigs.
P. porcus, like many pigs, are highly social creatures. Most live in family groups consisting of anywhere between six to thirty members, although groups of over a hundred individuals have been reported in prime habitats. Typically groups are made of one male and several females with their young. Adult males are highly territorial, and will scrape the ground or tree trunks with their trunks to mark their space; males will also fight for territory and breeding rights. As a result, the most common solitary red river hogs are young males who have yet to find their territory or mate.
Breeding occurs during the wet season, between September and February. After a brief mating display, males mount one or more females in their group. Pregnancy lasts about 120 days, so young are born between February and July. Litters can vary in size from one to six young, which are cared for in nests constructed of grass and leaves. After four months the young are weaned, although they do not become sexually mature until they are two years old, at which time they fully grow in their red coat. Individuals can live up to fifteen years in the wild.
Most of the red river hog’s adult life is spent foraging at night. These pigs are omnivores, although their primary diet consists of roots, fruits, seeds, and vegetation, much of which they find by rooting with their snouts. They have been known to follow chimpanzees for prime scrapes and will eat elephant dung to access undigested seeds. In terms of protein, P. porcus will eat bird eggs, insects, reptiles, and occasionally small farm animals like piglets and goats. The main predator of red river hogs are leopards, which the dominant male will fight to protect his group.
Conservation status: P. porcus is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN. In fact, their numbers are increasing due to the decline of their natural predator, the leopard. Red river hogs are hunted by humans, both as a source of food and for pest control.

The morning of May 18th, eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018. That same night, a woman was killed on the campus of Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia. The students leave behind empty desks and diplomas. They all leave futures and families and friends, a painful collection of what-ifs. Each of their stories is unique, yet they each converge on a painful truth: They died at one of our schools. We said, “Never again.” But again is now. Today, we add the names of the most recent victims to our list of those we’ve lost in school shootings since Columbine. This list serves to keep our collective memory of these victims alive, but it also reminds us of the terrible human cost of gun violence; the terrible cost of insufficient support for troubled young people; and the terrible cost of our national complacency., eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018. Jacinda Ardern Speech Research
Who is Jacinda Ardern?
Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern is a New Zealand politician who has been serving as the 40th prime minister of New Zealand and leader of the Labour Party since 2017. First elected to the House of Representatives as a list MP in 2008, she has been the member of Parliament for Mount Albert since March 2017.
What was her speech about?
New Zealand PM addressed a crowd of thousands who had gathered for a memorial service at Hagley Park in Christchurch, two weeks after the mosque attacks in March 2019
Her support for the Muslim community and speech that captured the support and zero tolerance for this horrifying act was felt worldwide and gained the support of many people around the world even those of other religions. With many coming to show their support for the community.
What was happening in the world in 2019?
Mar 3 SpaceX's Dragon capsule successfully docks with the International Space Station during its demonstration run
Mar 5 Kylie Jenner is the world's youngest-ever billionaire at 21, according to Forbes
Mar 6 Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg reveals plans to turn the social media platform into a more "privacy-focused platform"
Mar 10 Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 crashes just after take-off from Addis Ababa, killing all 157 on board
Mar 11 Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika (82) changes his mind saying he will not seek a fifth term and postpones elections after mass protests
Mar 12 Dozens charged in US college admission scandal by US federal prosecutors, including actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman
Mar 15 Terrorist attack on two mosques by a right-wing Australian gunman kills 51 and wounds 50 in Christchurch, New Zealand
Mar 15 Climate change strikes held by school children take place around the world inspired by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg
Mar 21 New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announces a ban on military-style semiautomatic weapons, 6 days after the Christchurch terrorist attack
Mar 21 US President Donald Trump says US should recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights on Twitter
Mar 23 Syrian Democratic Forces announce that the last Islamic State territory has been retaken raising flags in Baghuz, Syria and ending the five-year Islamic State "caliphate"
Mar 24 Investigation headed by Special Council Robert S. Mueller finds no evidence President Trump colluded with Russia in 2016 election
What is the mood of the speech?
It is said with a heavy heart and with compassion for the people mourning the dead, a sadness for the victims involved and a tone that helps people of all religion and ethnicities to all come together and feel supported. This was a first experience for New Zealand of a shooting at this scale and Jacinda Ardern made an effort to make sure she captured how serious this was of a hate crime.

Reddit buys TikTok rival Dubsmash in video push
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reddit said it has acquired video-sharing platform Dubsmash, making it the latest social-media giant to mount a challenge to TikTok.
Seven-year-old Dubsmash lets users create and share videos of themselves lip-syncing to songs or clips from movies. Reddit said it will integrate Dubsmash’s video creation tools into its own platform in a move to expand its video content capabilities.
“Dubsmash elevates under-represented creators, while Reddit fosters a sense of community and belonging across thousands of different topics and passions,” Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said in a statement. “It’s clear that our missions closely align and that our community-focused platforms can coexist and grow as we learn from each other.”
Reddit did not disclose specific financial terms of the deal announced Sunday, but a company spokeswoman told Reuters that it involved a combination of cash and stock. All of Dubsmash’s staff will join Reddit but the app will maintain its own platform and brand, Reddit said.
Reddit’s foray into the short-video market came as rivals Facebook and Snapchat try to recreate TikTok’s magic. Facebook-owned Instagram launched a TikTok copycat called Reels in August, and Snapchat followed last month with its “Spotlight” feature.
Dubsmash’s service is similar to Musical.ly, the lip-syncing app that grew into TikTok after it was acquired by Chinese tech giant ByteDance in 2017.
But Dubsmash has struggled to match TikTok’s audience — its mobile app has been downloaded about 197 million times globally since launching, while TikTok’s has racked up nearly 2.6 billion downloads, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower.

Mountains Around the Chisos Basin (Big Bend National Park)

Mountains Around the Chisos Basin (Big Bend National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: To say that looking at the rugged mountains to the north were amazing. With the shadows came from the early morning sun, it added to the grandeur of the image I wanted to capture! I'd seen images others had taken just before I headed to Big Bend National Park...seeing it with the eyeball cameras for the first time was amazing!

I've seen a few really good dog mounts on insta but not a studio that consistently produces work or still take commissions unfortunately.
