Zoey Tess regards her late aunt, television actress Corinne Camacho, as her greatest source of inspiration. Born Gloria Angelina Katharina Alletto, Camacho was a veteran television actress (Little House on the Prairie, Days of Our Lives, The Bionic Woman) whose career spanned over four decades. During her early childhood, she studied classical piano at The Conservatory of Music and Arts in New Jersey. Camacho's career began in Los Angeles, California as a model in the 1960's and would soon lead to an illustrious television and film career. Camacho passed away on September 15th, 2010, after a brave battle with cancer. She was 68. Both Variety Magazine, as well as The Television Academy, giving nature paid tribute to the beautiful and gracious "TV Thespian". Tess told Muzique Magazine that “she hopes to follow in the footsteps of Camacho’s talent and success, but most admire her kindness and giving-nature.”
Tess is a songwriter at heart and finds joy composing for other artists and bands. She loves to experiment with different sounds and styles, drawing inspiration from the artists she admires most. She combines her unique background that spans all genres of music, while maintaining her own image and sound. Recently she wrote the soul-searching ballad ‘Glass Castles’ for pop singer and LGBTQ activist Mila Jam. Tess is currently working with music manager Karen Ross of Ross Celebrity PR and Music Management who spent much of her career alongside legendary record producer and composer Phil Ramone. Ross and Tess are cultivating a catalogue of larger-than-life music for film and television soundtracks. Tess recently got engaged in January of this year and looks forward to getting Married in October to Jay Bennett at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. Tess and Bennett enjoy traveling between their homes in Palm Beach, Florida and Newtown, Connecticut.

Kerri Chandler - “Ladbroke Grove” Copa Mundial Muzique Song released in 1997. Compilation released in 1998. Deep House
Kerri Chandler is one of the all-time greats when it comes to house music. Born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Chandler was always surrounded by talented musicians. His dad was a disco DJ and other members of his family were involved with jazz. Many of his peers turned out to be top billed artists, too, and from a variety of genres. Peep this paragraph from an interview he did with Greg Scarth for Attack Magazine:
All of us were inspired by each other and there were a lot of people making music. We all knew each other. Whitney [Houston] was the older kid that we’d all hang out with and go and get candy with. There was Naughty By Nature, who were known as The New Style back then. [Queen] Latifah – Dana – used to come to the club all the time. Biz Markie always used to be around. Mtume lived just down the block. My mother used to babysit for Steve Arrington from Slave. Pic Conley from Surface was my dad’s friend; he was there at the house every day. Bernie Worrell was my best friend’s uncle. Lauryn Hill was like the next generation. I had all these influences and people around me who were making music and if I needed to talk to someone they were there.
The interview is both fascinating and terrifying. Chandler also recounts an event in which his friend, Chino XL, who would become one of the most slept-on rappers of all time, was chased by two men with machine guns at Chandler’s daughter’s first birthday party. You can read the whole interview here. East Orange clearly served as both a blessing and a curse in Chandler’s formative years.
Chandler also spent a lot of time in the studio as a kid, not as a musician, but as an onlooker. Eventually, as he became older, the onlooking turned into engineering and then the engineering eventually turned into production, specifically house production. And then his productions made it to radio thanks to famous New York DJ Tony Humphries. From that point forward, Chandler’s career as a producer took off. Today, he is not only recognized for his production, but also as a top-flight house DJ, and as an owner of two record labels.
In 1997, Chandler released Raw Grooves 3, which features one of his greatest tracks, “Ladbroke Grove”. The next year, to commemorate the 1998 World Cup, Chicago’s Guidance Recordings included it on their Copa Mundial Muzique compilation.
“Ladbroke Grove” is phenomenal, simply because of Chandler’s uniquely intriguing use of totally unpredictable bongos. Almost always, with house music, the tracks’ variety comes from the infusion of a new layer of sound or a lead melody, courtesy of a horn, piano, guitar, vocal, etc. Rarely does that variety come from a foundational percussive layer. And that’s what makes this track both so good and so refreshing. It’s a somewhat different approach to house music.
Along with that base layer of bongos, Chandler lays in funky bass rhythms, kicks, snares, hi-hats, little dubby keyboard notes, a dubby vocal, and once in a while, a cascading, slowly-decaying synth. Chandler plays with the frequency on the bongos at times, and at one point, includes a brief layer of harder snares. All of these pieces put together yields a thick and wonderful drum-heavy house groove.

Exclusive Ellen Alexander Interview with Muzique Magazine
Tumblr media
How did you come by your brand name?
Any stage name is a variation of my name. My real name is very hard for many people, so I chose my middle name “Alexandrovna” and changed it up a bit, turning to Alexander
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I was singing since I was very young in a church choir, back in Moscow. I had an idea of singing in the back of my mind, during that time I was writing poetry, singing, and dancing, and doing ballet. In the Soviet Union, those were the popular creative activities that children would attend after school, as classes. So, I was trying all of those different things and disciplines and that’s how I ended up discovering that this could be a career for me.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I don’t think I can credit anybody specifically, it’s just to my liking, I don’t credit anybody but for example, I can mention Alon Walker or Kygo as some of the influence
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
For my current project, I came up with a concept inspired by that kind of DJs. I would say that Alon Walker, the Current project I came up with a concept inspired by that kind of DJs. I would say alon walker and kygo, but I also have a rap song inspired by cardi b. I have many different directions and I enjoy in different styles, experimenting with my craft.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
What is challenging for me is time, I barely find time to manage everything, and right now I am writing this book that shares a story about a singer. I am developing some books on my father that’s what I’m currently busy with, as well as paintings and collaborations. Instagram, TikTok, Onlyfans – You name it, I have a lot of projects going on at one time, and finding time to make music can be difficult sometimes.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I do not believe there isn’t anybody who is the best. There are many different great artists many styles, there is a lot of variety. I just create what I want to, what I feel like, I don’t want to call it the best.
What are your plans for the near future?
For the near future, I plan to finish 4 books with my father and I’m working on 2 other books myself and planning to shoot movies, based on those books.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?
I had so many people helping me and inspiring me, working with me, and helping me to create my music, so I think I want to thank the artists I like, for the inspiration.

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
I suggest working as hard as you can, it always pays off, to create a decent project. And approach big music labels, this is currently what I am also working on, I would like to sign with a good music label soon.
