More than 500 journalists lost their jobs in January, a sharp increase from the month prior and the latest reminder of the hard financial times that have fallen on the news business. New data from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas found the media industry, which includes television, film, streaming and news, announced 836 job cuts in January, a figure that is up 11 percent from the 754 cuts announced in the same month last year. A total of 528 layoffs came in the news category alone, which is up 1,660 percent from the 30 layoffs tracked in December. It is the highest monthly total since March 2023 when 532 cuts were recorded, the firm said.

Now I'm building up some real speed! | Week 8: Digital Citizenship and Software literacy: Instagram Filters

This week’s summary is a bit more out of my comfort zone. I don't really have much of an opinion on the topic and I've never really thought about it. It’s gonna be a bit tricky for me to formulate an opinion, but I also think it's exciting because it means I get to learn something new about the things I love the most. I hope you like what I have to say!

This week’s reading is on Digital Citizenship and Software literacy: Instagram Filters

With media becoming more and more “instantly attainable for the masses” (Barker, 2020 p. 207) so too does the ability for the public to control their image online. “Face Filters” as Barker describes it “enables users to incorporate augmented reality technology” (Barker, 2020 p. 207) into their everyday mundane life. The problem however is with the “face-perfecting filters” (Barker, 2020 p. 207) which have the intention to make someone ‘prettier’ and better looking than how they are when taking the photo. This creates a negative perception of self-image after the filter is taken away. Reader’s digest has compiled the best looking filters for your face, with the “beautiful face” filter being among one of the best by giving you “a natural glow” that “we’ve all dreamed of” (Reader’s Digest, 2022). Barker comes to the conclusion that the snapchat beautifying filters have a “problematic nature” (Barker, 2020 p. 209) and have the potential to cause serious self-image harm to young individuals still developing their self worth. 

Additionally, author Rettberg takes a look at the way filters can make our photos and therefore our lives seem “brighter [than real life]” (Rettberg, 2014 p. 21). The “Instagram-style filters”, make our perception of everyday life appear “unfamiliar”, it starts to fade our perception of the “defamiliarization effect”. What does that mean? It means that the world that we start to portray using these filters has begun to wear off as more and more people use the filters in their everyday life, and that leads to the negative effect that Barker touched on; Once the filters are applied, those who use them feel unstoppable. That is until other users realize it's a filter and get defamiliarized with it, leading to a decrease in adoration for the images using these filters. This ultimately leads to the original user coming back to square one, feeling distraught at the idea that their self-image isn't good eno8gh to portray to the world

In the grand scheme of the modern media landscape, there are filters that poke fun at certain political figures, create memes and make others laugh. When it comes to beauty filters, the whole idea relates to last week's analysis, where body modification is prevalent in younger and younger audiences leading to confidence and self-image problems as these users become adults.

ملالي طهران وثورة الضد من الحجاب لخلعه.

تعالت الأصوات في إيران لمقتل الطالبة الكردية جينا أميني التي أُرغمت على تغليب النسخة الفارسية من اسمها فأصبحت تُدعى مهسا أميني. قد تكون الحادثة لا جديد فيها بالنسبة للإيرانيين فهم متعودين على تقديم الأضاحي من شبابها صبية وفتيات.

ولكن الجديد في الجديد الذي أستجد على ذاك النظام العمقي الذي يتدثر بعمامته السوداء ويفرض شبيهتها في السواد ليحجب أدمغة شعب محب للحياة، غربي التفكير لا يعترف بشرقيته ويتعالى على الجموع بكونه شعب الله المختار بنسخته الفارسية.

مقتل مهسا أميني على يد الشرطة الدينية التي تتلبس الدين وتنعت نفسها زوراً وبهتاناً بالأخلاق وكأنها وصي على الدين والخلق وهما براء منه، حمل النظام وزراً فوق أوزاره القبيحة ونزع فتيل قنبلة فراغية في وجه نظامٍ حكم بالحديد والنار وجعل وزنه وزن بالون فارغ، هزيل الشكل، قبيح المنظر.

ذاك الرداء الأسود الذي توشحت به تلك المرأة الإيرانية بعزة وافتخار وقت الثورة على الملكية، نزعته نفوراً واشمئزازاً وكانها تحتقر تلك المرأة التي أعتزت بحاجبها فهي لم تتوشح به عن قناعة دينية وإنما عن نزعة فكرية نتجت عن منطق سياسي من باب الفعل ورد الفعل وكما يقال؛

ما تخلقه السياسية تخنقه ذات السياسية.

وما أشبه اليوم بالأمس، فالمرأة الإيرانية خلعت خمارها وألقت به في نيران مجوسيتها لتحرق عقيدة حجبت عقل المرأة لا شعرها ومن ثم التمتع بها، فهو لا يستطيع التمتع إلا بهيمة مسلوبة الرأي والإرادة. تلك العقيدة المسماة (بالملالي)المتلبسة بالدين لأجل الحط به، والتي هُجنت في معامل الغرب وزُرعت في منطقتنا لاغتيال الإسلام من داخله.

ذاك الدين الذي أفزع الشرق والغرب مجرد فكرة نهوضه فقرروا قصمه، ولكن الحق أبى إلا وأن يكون حاضراً بشخصه. فالمرأة الإيرانية ثارت على عقيدتهم تلك المخلقة ولم تثور على جوهر العقيدة الإسلامية التي حثت على الاحتشام، فالحجاب بمضمونه سترُ للعورة وتجميلٌ للهيئة وتحرير للأنفس والعقول.

التعاطف مع تلك المرأة التي نزعت أغلالها وتحررت من قيودها قد لا يكون واجباً وأنما حتماً فضيلة. فلا غرابة أن تجد كل نسوة العالم تدعمها وتستميت في الدفاع عنها ولكن مهلاً هل المرأة الإيرانية بطبيعتها مغلوبة على أمرها.؟!

ما عُرف عن المرأة الإيرانية هو قوتها فهي شديدة الثبات ذات صلابة وبأس، إذاً أين مكمن الخلل؟

هل في اندفاع المرأة بشكل مبالغ فيه لكل شأن يخصها وكأنها في صراع لا متناهي مع كونها فقط امرأة أم في زيف الشعار الغربي الذي جعلها تعتقد في انصافه لها. برأيي ضبابية الرؤية عند بعضهن هو ما أوصلنا إلى هنا.

إذًا فـ لنقلب الصورة ونشاهد جانبها القبيح، عندما دخلت أمريكا بـ عُدها وعتادها لأفغانستان، كان لأجل أمركتها ونشر ديمقراطيتها ولكن وبعد عشرين سنة من سلبها لخيرات تلك البلد الهمجي على حد زعمها فشلت وعادت بخفي حُنين، صور أيتام الإمبريالية وهي تتهاوى عن الطائرة أفزع متبنيها، فالحلم الأمريكي طار وطارت معه كل أحلام السذج مما رأى في الغرب خلاصه. تعاطف الإعلام الليبرالي مع نساء أفغانستان دون رجالها وأصبح يشير بالبنان لتلك العقيدة وذاك الدين وهو يقمع أحلام الفتيات ويجبرهنّ على ارتداء الحجاب.

صور كيم كارديشان وقتها وهي تلتحف السواد من أعلاها لأخمص قديمها وكانها تعبر عن حالتها بعد الطلاق، أثارت موجة من الاستهجان وربطها البعض بحالة الأفغانيات كدعاية موازية. احتفت عدسات المصورين بتلك الصورة الهجينة وجعلوها رمزاً لرفض السواد.

مرت الأيام وعدسات المصورين لا ترى سوى بنات المسلمين، ترصد تبرجهن وتحرض على تمردهن لـ تحط من قدرهن ولـ ترتقي بهن كسلعة في أسواق البغاء.

وعلى حين غفلة، سقط الإعلام الليبرالي في الفخ الذي رسمه، فمن ثار وخلع وحرق حجابه هن نسوة ضد ربهم الملالي الذي أمتهن عقيدة تمتهن إهانة المرأة والحط من قدرها لتدوس بها تحت الأقدام. عقيدة لا ترى في المرأة إلا فرجها فهي تغطي وجهها لتفتح رجليها بالمقابل.

سقطت كل القيم الإمبريالية ومعها الشعارات الليبرالية عندما تجاهل الإعلام ومعه الغرب تلك الانتفاضة النسوية بحد زعمه وأصبح يشير لها بالبنان على أنها ثورة ذات أبعاد سياسية، كيف لا ومن يقودها هي مسيح على نجاد ابنة مايك بومبيو (من باب السخرية). فهو أمريكي من التيار المحافظ وداعم للمعارضة الإيرانية بصورة مجاهدي خلق التي قدمت نفسها مراراً وتكرارًا كنموذج مخالف للسلطة الحالية، حيث تقدم النموذج العلماني المتوافق مع الأجندة الغربية.

ولكن الطريف هو عدم ثقة الغرب به، بمعنى عدم توافق أجندته مع ما هو مطلوب من إيران كمعول هدم بسماد ضار في أرض خصبة.

نعود لصلب الموضوع ألا وهو التعاطف النسائي العالمي الذي أخل بكل أجندات الغرب في منطقتنا وأصبح ما بين مطرقة القيم النسوية لـ سنديان القيم الليبرالية، ليستبرأ منهن كل مخنث ويتم وسمـ هن لاحقاً بالعاهرات.

لست هنا لـ اصفق لهذا أو ذاك فكلاهما على ضلال، ولكن ما لفتني هو تأمل راجية تحلم بالنجاة من سطوة ذكر فاقد للرجولة بحكم أفضليته عليها وإن كانت من باب التكليف، تلك المتصلة التي نافحت بنبرة صوتها الشجي الذي لم يحسن إخفاء ألمها لتدعو لهن بالخلاص والنصرة. عندها استرجعت صورة كاركتيرية لتفاخر امرأة بشعة فقدت كل ما يميزها كأنثى على أخرى كاملة الأنوثة وما زادها حجابها إلا جمالاً، لتعي بأن الهدف هو نزع ما يجملك كامرأة.

عندها وصلت لقناعة كامرأة عربية ومسلمة، يحق لي مناهضة كل ما يستوقفني ويمنع عني الحياة بشرط ألا أخسر كينونتي، ديني وربي. وما دونهما مجرد ذراً للرماد في الأعين.
