#Nico's character is ENTIRELY DRIVEN BY LOVE AND CARE FOR OTHER PEOPLE

Text
Every description about Nico (especially the canon ones) describing him as “cold” can personally fight me. Nico is jaded, yes, and often closed-off and sometimes stand-offish and defensive but he is not "cold”. He cares SO SO SO MUCH about EVERYONE. He loves and cares with his entire heart constantly and that is a core part of his character. He doesn’t often make public shows of his affection but he takes care to be kind when it matters and doesn’t hide that he does care (usually, the only exception really being him being in the closet, but even then he only hid his crush specifically and not the fact that Percy is important to him). He fine with hugging his friends in front of a crowd and will sit with strangers at a campfire just so they’re not alone. I mean, heck, he’s an extrovert! We know this! He actively seeks out people and gets lonely very quickly and easily! If he can’t talk to living people he will chat with the dead! That’s how much he thrives on being social!
The only time Nico has ever been actively “cold” was the couple of months between TTC and BoTL when he was actively mourning Bianca. Nico is not “cold.” He loves so much and he does show it, just in his own way.
#pjo#riordanverse#nico di angelo#analysis#brought to you by: I saw a blurb for TSATS that said something like ''Will melted through Nico's icy heart/cold exterior''#and it made me want to tear something apart with my teeth because of how Blatantly Incorrect that is#like that is a disservice to both their characters.#a.) Will did not ''fix'' Nico or ''change'' him or anything. He is just a source of joy in Nico's life#TOA even explicitly acknowledges that them dating did not ''fix'' Nico and that Nico is actively getting outside help for his trauma/etc#and b.) Nico is not cold!!! He has never been a cold person!!! there's a reason ''emo'' is short for ''emotional!''#Nico's character is ENTIRELY DRIVEN BY LOVE AND CARE FOR OTHER PEOPLE#yes he's jaded but he's only jaded in a way of being afraid of letting people into his life because he's afraid to lose them#not that it stops him because it sure does keep happening anyways because SURPRISE. HE LOVES TOO MUCH.#HE LITERALLY CANNOT HELP HIMSELF HE LOVES PEOPLE SO STRONGLY AND SO DEEPLY HE CANNOT STAY JADED ABOUT IT#he just keeps going ''Okay *THIS* time I won't let this person into my life to risk heartbreak- AW FUCK I'VE DONE IT AGAIN''#SO MUCH of his character is entirely driven by ''I care about people. I dont want them to suffer what i have suffered or suffer at all''#like really the only times we ever see Nico being actively angry/snappy at people#is like a.) He is either actively being majorly hurt or has just recently been majorly hurt (Bianca's death. Being outed. etc)#b.) Someone is hurting others is going to bring harm to others (Calling out his dad in TLO. Killing Bryce)#or c.) Someone is doubting or calling into question his lived experiences (Basically any scene where people say he's pushing people away)#other than that Nico actually tends to give people way more lenience than necessary. he will put up with a LOT#and he won't even call people out on it or hold a grudge about it (i see you alleged Nico's fatal flaw. you're wrong)#unless it's like. something A Lot Of People Do Often (ex: push him away/exclude him/etc)#at which point he might be like. mildly upset about it but not much more then that. which is just a normal measured response.#anyways Nico's not cold he's just autistic

DMC Questions Anon here!
Create a crossover! What is Devil May Cry crossing over with? How does it work? How do the characters from each world interact with the characters from the other?
Look, ya'll see my username, u know I'm gonna go with Pokémon.
specifically I'm thinking about pokemon naturally existing within the human realm, and demons are almost entirely separate from them. So all of the human characters have pokemon partners, with some exceptions.
All of the Spardas have a pseudo-legendary, and Dante specifically has Tyranitar. I wanted this line specifically because this species is known for causing a lot of damage, but have also been shown to be very sweet and protective if need be. It really fits Dante's 'don't come near me, I'm dangerous' mindset until Patty climbs all over it and it utterly adores her. It's also a hugger, so much so that Dante actively lets himself get poked to Hell because it looks sad.
As for Vergil, I'm going with the Salamence line. It's a very interesting line, having a goal-driven lizard eventually achieve that goal in the final stage. Vergil would have a hard time working with his partner, especially in 3 (where it would be a Bagon), because demons don't have pokemon partners. He leaves Bagon with Dante when he falls into Hell, thinking that the pokemon would not be able to survive there. It would stay with Dante for decades after that, until finally reuniting with Vergil as a Shelgon in DMC 5. It would take a bit, but it would eventually evolve after the boys got back from hell. Dante will forever lord the fact that his partner fully evolved before Vergil's (until Salamence smacks him with a Dragon Claw. Vergil approved.)
Nero would definitely have the Dragapult line! A dragon type (like Salamence) that has a large focus on family in its design whist also being completely unique from most other pseudos? Yeah, it's chock full of Nero vibes. The Dragapult evolution definitely only happened at the end of DMC 5, becuase the image of a Dragapult and DT Nero fighting with Silver Bullet in the bg is so fuckin sick. Also he was a Dreepy during DMC 4 and u need to know that he loved to sit on Nero's head or in his hoodie.
Patty next because propaganda. This one's up for grabs, but I think her first partner was a Dratini! Specifically one that kept showing up in the DMC office until Dante shoved it into Patty's arms. She's a Dragonair now, and often flies around the office just to annoy Dante. Also, shoutout to Patty for being the only human to get a pseudo because she's Dante's kid.
Trish didn't have a partner at first, since she was a demon. After going off on her own for a while, she ran into a Wattrel that kept using her motorcycle's wind to glide in the air. She found the little thing tenacious, and now there's a Kilowattrel half the size of Lady that perches in the DMC office rafters. It's high speed nature complements her fighting style rather well, along with the electricity.
Lady's partner is an extremely violent Scolipede. She really big and very venomous, so most regular people steer clear of her. She is also very tsundere, but actually doesn't mind when Dante or Trish are around. Lady takes great care of her, and often rides her in during jobs. Most people would tell you that's a horrible idea, but DMC employees are not normal people. Also Vergil was shot by one of her needles in DMC 3 when she was a Venipede, and now they are locked in a bitter rivalry. Lady thinks this is hilarious.
Nico is very happy with her Riolu partner, even if it was a gift from her dad when it was an egg. She doted on it very often, and even forced Rock to help her make a special egg warmer. When it did hatch, it quickly shared her interest in the art of metalworking and gunsmithing. Nowadays, he's Nico's assistant. He hasn't evolved yet, but Nico doesn't mind. He will when he's ready.
Kyrie's partner is a Sylveon, and a very caring one at that. Loves the kids, Kyrie, and Nero. Was an Eevee during DMC 4, and refused to leave Nero's side after Kyrie was kidnapped. Because of that, she is actually incredibly strong, so much so that Salamence was immediate put on edge when they met.
Some quick ones! Eva gave Sparda a Dieno when they met, and it was a very affectionate Hydregion during the boys' youth. Eva herself had a Alolan Ninetales, who was very protective of the boys and the baby pseudos. Both of these Pokemon are actually still alive in a rehabilitation center, although the boys don't know that rn. Morrison has an old Stoutland who can surprisingly handle battle quite well. Nina's partner is a very majestic and battle worn Kingdra, who is currently enjoying retirement. V did not have any pokemon, but he does talk about one he regrets leaving behind in the past....
And... that all their main partners! They actually have other pokemon as well, but these were just their first ones. As an example, Dante also has a Houndoom that he befriended in DMC 3 (as a Houndour) that knows a lot of bite moves. Why? King Cerberus rep for the mutual Coverage. Elemental coverage.
Thanks again DMC Questions anon! I really enjoyed this ask, even if I did flex my pokemon knowledge a bit please ask me questions I will write an essay to answer u-

Does your character believe in love at first sight? How would they handle most cute relationship tropes?
For Dom... er, Nico
Thank you for the ask!
Is your character…okay? Not really. While Nico has successfully managed to get his vampire hunger under control, owns a cleaning company that offers employment to vampires, and is helping with Chimera's mentorship program and has already helped two fledglings get their lives back on track, his personal life is still something of a mess. He rarely sees his wife, only when he travels back to New York to replenish his home earth, and his son is still estranged from him even five years after his turn.
What’s the first thing you decided about your character? What’s something you still haven’t decided about them? The first thing I knew about Nico was that he was going to be an Italian vampire. That much I can tell from a note on my phone dated July 4, 2021. I had written down the line "He's an Italian vampire. And yes, he knows exactly how ridiculous that makes his life." When I needed to create a mentor OC for Joey, it just FIT. What I haven't decided is what exactly happened that finally pushed Nico to leave New York. I haven't quite decided how the showdown between him and his former hunter friend went, or what the outcome was for the hunter.
What’s the line between right and wrong for your character? How moral do they consider themself? Nico isn't quite sure where that line is himself. He used to be driven by hunting down and killing vampires, but now that he is one, he wants to keep his un-life. He struggled for a long time to come to terms with becoming the kind of thing he used to hate, and he's slightly more at peace with himself now, at least enough to help other vampires sort themselves out, but he has a former hunter's issues with morality to contend with. The line he refuses to cross is drinking blood from a human directly. He's done it only once, accidentally. The other times, he's either stolen bagged blood or found humans willing to draw off some of their own. He's stubborn about drinking human blood at the best of times, even when he needs it to heal himself, but he never wants to actually bite anyone again, mostly because of how traumatic the first experience was, but also because he doesn't want to run the risk of infecting anyone, or even drugging them with the vampire saliva.
Who would your character give anything to be reunited with? His son. Nico would trade everything he's built in his un-life in order to get Ricky back in it. After the disastrous post-turn experience for both of them, Nico isn't sure there's any way to earn his son's trust back, not as long as he's still a vampire, because it's entirely possible his son, raised in the hunter world, will only ever see him as a dangerous monster.
Are your character’s hands warm, or cold? Does it bother them? Do they ever make them someone else’s problem? They are always cold, or at least feel cold to a human. Vampires don't generate their own body heat, so they always adapt to the ambient air temperatures. Before he meets potential new clients of his cleaning company, Nico always uses hand-warmers, because most contracts also involve a handshake in the bargain and even people who know they're going to be hiring a vampire and are doing it willingly tend to get a little creeped out by dead hands.
What gets your character up in the morning? (Technically, in the evening, but...) Helping other vampires. There have only been a few months of his life in LA that Nico hasn't had a mentee. The first few while he was getting his company started, and the occasional gap between cases he's handed, but other than that, he's always got someone else he's responsible for and looking out for. That's what keeps him going. He knows his own life is a mess, but that doesn't matter so much when at least he can help other people sort theirs out.
What kind of naming scheme does your character use for pets/kids/other nameable things? Do they care about names? Do they take it seriously, or go silly? Nico usually leaves the naming of anything up to other people. He calls a lot of random objects 'that thing' or 'whatever that is', less because he can't remember what it's called and more because he knows whoever he's talking to knows what it is. He's not particularly good with names in general, and his wife named their son.
What is your character’s idea of comfort food? What about comfort media, or their go-to de-stress situation/company? When he was human, Nico's comfort food used to be his family's Italian wedding soup. Now, he'll occasionally make the broth to add to a packet of Synth-blood. Nico is fondest of music as comfort media. He's mildly dyslexic, so reading was never a big part of his life, and he watched a lot of cartoons with his kid when he was home, so the music he played in the car on hunts is what he is fondest of. He likes instrumental covers of pop songs best, especially when they get creative with it.  The people he's most comfortable de-stressing with are few and far between. He tries not to unload his problems on his mentees, although he usually does tell them about the situation he's in to give them a little insight into how much he does understand their situations with their families. Occasionally, he'll talk to Maira about some things, but it's usually mentor program related. He more often pulls back into himself, taking a little time on his own to get himself back together and be ready to face whatever the issue is again.
Does your character believe in love at first sight? How would they handle most cute relationship tropes? Nico believes more in a love that's built. He married his high school sweetheart he'd known for four years, and he was honest with her about his work even when that was frowned upon as she wasn't directly involved with the hunter community herself. Nico was as attentive and caring as it was possible to be given the work life he had, and they were able to make it work because Vanessa had grown up in an Air Force family and was used to the life of secrets and long separations. She refused to break up with him when he died and turned, and while they have some distance between them literally and metaphorically, she insists they stay together at least until Ricky graduates college, in the hopes that they can get their family back to some semblance of what they had.
(For Dom... er, Nico) I know, picking his nickname was a tossup between those...

Brief Book Reviews #5 (+ 2022 TBR review)
#1 Shelby Mahurin, Blood & Honey (written in September 2022)
Looks like I’m saying “fuck you” to a lot of people in books this month huh. Once again, Ms Mahurin made me hurt a lot over Louise and Reid. The mutual pining, the wedge that gets driven between them because Louise keeps secrets so Reid won’t worry so much (sadly that made it worse), just. Thanks, Ms Mahurin, I’m in pain. Seeing them make up toward the big battle at the end helped ease the ache. And then they rail each other into next week. Damn I want what they have.
The ending was fucking horrifying. Fuck you La Voisin, and fuck you Morgane. Also it was cool to do a little work and find out that Beau’s mum is Maori- at least that’s what google translate tells me from what was said in that one scene. don’t come for me. Rest in Peace Ansel, you were the real hero here and you won’t be forgotten.
also the knife throwing scene with Lou and Reid got me very hot and bothered, damn. time to get Gods & Monsters and suffer some more lol
#2 Libba Bray, Diviners
As much as I enjoy the setting of prohibition era New York, I got to halfway through the book and nothing was happening. There’s a lot of supernatural shit going on, we have Naughty John killing people in really fucked up ways, and the main characters don’t seem to be going anywhere with it, save for Evie’s uncle, and we have no idea what he’s doing in the meantime. There’s some good writing and dialogue in it, it’s just not enough to tide me over, I’m afraid.
#3 Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse (Book 3)
I continued my foray into the Percy Jackson books in 2022, and finished Titan’s Curse. It felt good to see a book featuring my matron goddess, Artemis, being awesome, and Apollo being his delightful self- Riordan remembered that these two are thick as thieves, thankfully. And Nico, poor baby. This whole book was a lot of ouch, to be honest, though I’m sad to see Thalia leave so early, she’s pretty cool. The lady at the bookstore where I bought the box set assured me the third book was the best one, she wasn’t kidding lol. ALSO PERCY WOULD YOU JUST TELL ANNABETH YOU LOVE HER ALREADY.
#4 Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth (Book 4)
Hoo boy, this one was a doozy. It’s a bit slow-going to begin with, with all the globe trotting that gets done while the gang’s exploring the labyrinth and trying to find Ariadne’s string, and then it gets heavy as the major plot points are exposed, and then I couldn’t pull my eyes off the book. The glimpses into Deadalus’s past through Percy’s dreams are heartbreaking to say the least, but I think they were very much needed to explain why he would build the Labyrinth. And fuck you, Minos, nobody plays my baby Nico like that. I don’t care if he’s a necromancer and can probably look after himself, I will defend this boy with my life. The final battle comes in the next book, and then I hear there’s other stuff I have to read? Idk if I’ll read it. Also I’ll probably get smote for this but also fuck you Hera. Don’t fuck with Annabeth like that.
TBR Wrap-up
Total books read: 7
I’m gonna just make a spreadsheet of the books I’m yet to read so I have a good idea of how far I am into this book-buying habit I seem to have. They’re pretty on my shelves, sure, but I don’t want to be one of those people who just have books for decoration.
On top of that, I should be making sure I’m either reading one entire series at a time, or just one book from a series per batch (?) before I do more Brief Book Reviews. It’s kinda holding up how soon I can get to other books I want to read. the PJ books have held up my progress getting through some very interesting non-fiction books that I intend to read.
Finally, I’m making it into a habit to have an hour a day of reading time, just so I’m off the computer and I’m not staring at a screen for ages. It’s in my bullet journal, so I won’t forget if I’m always checking.
So, let’s see what 2023 brings us.

Uncle Ricks rocks when it comes to representation
Ok so here me out! I love this man so much and let me explain why ;
So obviously this post is about represention in his books and how i just realised how much this man fucking listen to his readers like holy shit. You can literaly see his improvement in every single books about representation and how much research and cared he took to make sure the representation was accurate.
Yeah in his first couple books it was eafy but since the begining this man had only one goal so that kids who never saw themself could for once have a story about them. Like it litteraly started with his son who had dislexia and adhd but what I admire about him is that he didnt stop there. He could of easily just talked about the subject and people would of still praised him for how woke he was at the time but no. The first serie was all about getting out of abusif relation and how bad parenting is not always about beating the kid. He talked about emotional trauma in so many different ways that i'm certain some kids out there saw that and got the confirmation it was not ok and seeked help. For a kid book this was revolutionary.
In his next serie when fan of the Percy Jackson serie where complaining his lack of diversity (witch true there was a big lack of it). What did he do instead of ignoring it or giving a token character like so many author did in the past he fucking write 4 out of the 7 has POC. All with their own origine and backstory all well written and often not even related solely on their ethnicity like so many POC character are normaly in other book. Like yes their ethnicity and culture were mention but thats has important for writting a POC character then adding other personality trait and fuck he nailed it. A lot of the younger reader werent there when we had the ackward period of time between the book and werent witness of the sheer hapiness of the POC comunity when that happen. Then the LGBT who got more and more outgoing on the internet at that time talked about how nice it would be to have a queer charachter and often headcanon Nico as Gay since he was so relatable to so many people. Then what did uncle Rick do ! he fucking made it happen thats what happen. But so many people were hesitant after all he seemed such like a token character. Witch i agree he kinda was and Uncle Rick realized that as well.
So in his next serie he made it happen the Canon Solangelo who shooked the entire fandom and put everyone feeds covered of fanon for a full month. Omg the discourse and how much people accused him of given inn and accusing him of a fake ally ? Ignoring or maybe not realising that this was not fake allyship but the total inverse. This man listen to his reader and he always had. Wrote about POC character when ask change stuff when he did something he didnt know was wrong. Listen again and again because this man he wrote those books yes for the story but before anything else for the chance of the kids to be able to see themselfs in those character. So yes his story are very driven by the headcanons of fan but thats because thats what his books are all about. To show that these headcanon can be real, to educate people about the struggle of those comunities while simultinusly give to those comunitie a message stronger then i ever saw by an author.
I see you and i will make sure others see you as well
Before concluding this i also want to point out another of my favourite serie he wrote Magnus Chase. This was honeslty my first ever interaction with the Muslim world and the trans world in a normal setting. From a small town where islamophobia and homophobie was very real and very present. These character showed me how normal they are. I was raised open minded and my parent thought me about them but it always in a more educational setting like here they existe dont be racist or homophobic. But as a 14 year old raised in a a white town where other culture resume of who spoke french and who spoke english i was so scared of being disrespectul without wanting to be. This helped me a lot learning the difference between whats accpetable and what not. Because i knew micro-aggressions existed but i didnt know what was a micro-aggression. Like i knew to not be straight up hateful, but could i asked question about their culture? what can I ask without being disrespectful? Do I do stuff that I didn’t realize are hateful etc. Now I'm 20 live in a big city made so many friends from so many places and i can say without any fear Thank you Uncle Rick you are the one who thaught me what genderfluids mean and led me to be less apprehensive of searching and asking more about it, litteraly 3 month after I read the book I met my first trans person and we bonded over Alex in Magnus chase. It also helped me understand more about the Muslim religion and how deep their fate can be but also why it’s so important to them explaining to me what Ramadan was and making me less shy around them and not be afraid to ask question on how I can be a better ally. He also thought me its ok to make mistake while trying to be an ally as long as i make sure i correct it and learn from it. Because no road to allyship is perfect after all we all need to learn. I want people to know that there is no perfect ally from the start and if you are gonna judge someone for their pass instead of their present action are you really searching for ally ?

I'm not trying to come off as mean because I think your opinions are super valid and I actually really appreciate a different view on Cordelia, but why is it that when a male character in TSC is lovesick for a girl/guy it's romantic and adorable and said guy is seen as near perfect, but when a girl is it's seen as just being lovesick and weak/pathetic? I just don't really understand 😓
Lol no, I don't like it either, not when it's written the way Cordelia was written. I think I speak out more now, on Cordelia, because I have more confidence. I don't care if I lose followers, and I don't care if people come into my DMs and attack me for my thoughts. When I created this blog, I cared more about those things so I kept my mouth shut.
I'll also address the fact that obsession (even predatory behavior) from a man aimed at a woman has a long standing history of being romanticised and the predominantly female based readership of TSC may still be subscribed to that way of thinking. Paired with women's internalized misogyny (think: women's behaviour to Taylor Swift, Kristen Stewart and Jameela Jamil), Cordelia will automatically be less favourable to some. This is something I've considered in my own analysis of Cordelia and I still feel confident that my dislike of her character isn't based in that inherent idea. We must also address the often times creepy, near enough fetishization of mlm characters by females with the uwu cute baby gay boy attitude (think: Nico Di Angelo from the Riordanverse). If Alec, Magnus, Kit, Ty, Kieran, Mark, etc were obsessive over their respective Male counterparts to Cordelia's extent with James, it would just fuel that creepy attitude. We do kind of see it with Kit and Ty anyway. The only excuse I can respect for that is mlm or queer people in general appreciate the reality of the gay experience when you're young and still learning, and CC cut it off at the knees and we are desperately trying to keep it alive. I digress.
So please, without further adieu, have my opinions on Shadowhunter men in TSC.
James: Get your head in the game dude. Liked him in TFtSHA but he's gone downhill from there. 2/10
Matthew: Gives me anxiety, not sure if I like him being the cornerstone for bisexual representation, but we'll see. Has started yet another fucking love triangle. Again, I like him in TFtSHA but has gone downhill. 2/10
Alastair: I like him but that's just because I relate to him. Can't wait to find out more about myself him as the story goes on. 7/10 (docked points bc he's kind of a douche canoe).
Jace: Obsessive. As an adult (the age I am now when I read Chog), his love for Clary makes me supremely uncomfortable for 90% of the series. 3/10
Simon: Again, his teen angsty crush on Clary I can do without, but when he starts crushing on Izzy, it's not as obsessive and lovesick as it is with Jordelia. He has the vampire thing to think about, and the getting stuck in hell part of it, and there's more depth to his character (although not enough, let's be honest). 8/10
Alec: Manages to focus on things other than Magnus for thirty seconds. We even have the entirety of CoHF where Alec is suffering with his fear for Magnus' life, but we don't know that deep until we have the conversation between Jace and Alec. Good man, loved the fact he got some character development, cares more than just about his boyfriend. 10/10.
Will: Bro. His character all around is... a lot. He gets praised as this broody, beautiful, perfect type, but during my reread every time he waxed poetic about Tessa I rolled my eyes. He is just as bad as Cordelia, but I do think CC rounded out his character a little better eventually (I hope she does the same with Cordelia). I like Will in the glimpses we get of him as an adult and a father more than I like the Will in TID. 5/10 for TID, but overall 6/10
Jem: This man deserved so much more in depth character work, but at the very least he wasn't boiled down to 'I love Tessa and that's all I'm capable of'. He is driven by love, but he loves more than just Tessa. 9/10
Gideon & Gabriel: We don't get a lot of their side of the story and Gabriel is like 19 and dating a 15 year old so we're moving right along. 4/10 for Gideon (wish it could be more but we dont know hime) and 2/10 for Gabriel (because he did make me laugh).
Julian: I just... no. I don't like Blackstairs story very much. Julian kinda freaks me out and his obsession with Emma is A Lot™️. 4/10 (because he loves his family and has been through too much).
Mark: Hey look, a character that has a relationship and isn't entirely consumed by it. There's some poly confusion (like gay panic, but for polyam). I support him, and I wish him well. 7/10
Ty: Not sure he knows what's up. Good egg. Have yet to see his (in depth) POV of Kit so this could change, but so far he's pretty chill. 10/10
Kit: Get a grip, then get a clue. Is perhaps a little obsessive as the books wear on, but his character is balanced more in favour of trying to do what he needs to do and trying his best and that's less motivated by his (unacknowledged) crush. If he dissolves into a lovesick and obsessive character with little to no other personality traits, then his score will go down. 9/10.

Nico Di Angelo AU - Part 1
Spoliers for the entire Percy Jackson Serise. If your not caught up do not read.
Disclaimer - I don’t own the characters or any of the books plot. That is owned by Rick Riordan not me I sort of own the idea. There is other people in the internet who have this idea, this is just my take. Also I got most of the information of the plot and details thanks the the Fandom Wiki so credits to them.
AU - Nico Di Angelo was the child of the prophecy instead of Percy Jackson. Pretty much the serise as a Solangelo cannon instead of Percbeth. Some things are different but most things are kinda the same like the quests.
P.O.V - So in the orignal series it’s all in Percy’s POV but I got the idea that it switches POV’s like “Heroes of Olympus”. This is switched between Nico,Will, and Bianca
The Lightning Thief
Arrival at Camp
A twelve year old boy and thirteen year old girl were taken out of there military school by a lawyer (Alecto in disguise) to go to a Camp for them to be safe. There names were Bianca and Nico Di Angelo.
On the way they were attacked by the Minotaur which was chasing the limo.
Alecto told them to run to Percy’s tree and tell the people at the camp there that there haftbloods. Bianca and Nico ran towards a big pine tree but the Minotaur caught up to them. To protect her brother Bianca killed the Minotaur with her bare hands and somehow survived. Bianca and Nico fainted by the pine tree and before Nico passed out he yelled Help.
A camper immediately saw them and rushed them to the infirmary.
Nico woke up and saw a cute blonde hair boy (Will) rambling about how Bianca killed the Minotaur with her bare hands and how these kids are powerful. The boy noticed and got him a glass of water. Nico asked “Where am I”and “Where’s Bianca”. the boy said “Your okay and your safe” calming him down. Another boy (Lee Flecher) came in and told Will to take Nico to Mr.D and Chiron.
The blonde hair boy took Nico to two men both in there late 40s and Bianca who Nico immdently hugged. The men introduced both as Mr.D and Chiron. Chiron asked the blonde hair boy who he called Will to set up a place where Bianca and Nico to sleep in Cabin 11. Chiron explained to them about the Greek Gods and how there real. Nico was in shock while Bianca thought that it was all fake. Chiron asked them if they had ADHD or Dylexisia, if they’ve had an absent parent figure, or if werid thing have happened around them.
They both said yes and we’re taking it in. Chiron asked if they had any parents. Bianca responds with “Are mother died and are father was never around but after are mom died, are dad that we never met sent us to this hotel for a few weeks and then to a miterally school.” Chiron said “That’s strange, the records say - never mind there probely wrong. Mr.D told them to go to Hermes Cabin which Luke led them to since he was passing by.
Nico saw Will and went over to him. He thanked him for fixing his arm. Will blushed and told him that he didn’t and that was Lee. Will said that he really wants to be a child of Apollo because he loves working in the medicence field and that Lee let’s him help sometimes. Will asks him that if he knows the game Mythomagic and Will teaches him
Over the next few days Will and Nico became inseparable and did all there activitys togther. Until a few days before the Capture the Flag game a Aries camper was roughhousing with there sibling, which resulted in a wound on there arm. Will quickly fixed and healed with magic (Like Magnus Chase’s healing magic) and was claimed by Apollo. Nico was heartbroken. His best friend was claimed. Will and Nico still spent there free time togther but it wasn’t the same and Nico was all alone execpt he had Bianca
The Claiming
On the Capture the Flag game the captins were Athena and Aries. Athena took the Hermes and Apollo cabin while Aries took the rest. Nico and Will were on border patrol being kids but Will was asked to help in the infirmary as an Apollo kid so Nico was alone. Nico heard something in the woods and went to go look at what is was. It was a hellhound and it almost attacked Nico but Bianca stopped it and the hellhound backed away. Everyone saw what happened and were shocked. Bianca hugged Nico and made sure he was okay and then they were claimed by Hades. Everyone had fear in there eyes including Will.
No one talked to them after that and if they did they had fear in there voice. Everyone treated them differently as they were the black sheep of the camp. Chiron ended up letting them stay in the big house since the Hermes Cabin were terrified. He also gave them a new schedule so most of the time they wouldn’t be with the other campers.
One day they went to the forge to make weapons with Cabin 9. The Hephaestus kids were all terrified. Becknodorf didn’t care there were children of Hades and told them if his siblings gave any trouble talk to him. Bianca made a sliver bow and arrow and Nico makes a black Celsetial Bronze sword.
The Prophecy
Later that night in the big house. Nico couldn’t sleep because he heard noises from the room above him. He went to check it out and the Oracle started to speak to him and gave a prophecy to him.
“You shall go west and face the god who has turned,
You shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned,
You will be betrayed by one who calls you friend,
And your journey shall be a fight till the end”
Chrion finds a terrified Nico and tells him a prophecy has been issuied. He calls a councilor meeting instantly. It was pretty much all the oldest campers in the camp with the exception of Annabeth because the head counselor for the Athena cabin was in the infirmary thanks to a grusesome sword fight with Clarisse and she went instead.
While taking Bianca decided to go on the quest since she could not leave her brother alone. Even though Annabeth has been waiting for her chance she decided not to go because two children of the big three will result in a “death trap” which Luke whispers in her ear something about being nice. Nico tells them the lines of the propchey and they all unpack it. They also explain to the Hades’s kids about what happened at the solstice and what’s at stake in which Nico is internally freaking out since the fate of the world is on his shoulders
They still needed a third quest member. Nico asks Becknodorf but he declines since he’s needed at camp. Bianca thinks that no one wants to come since there children of Hades but Nico still has some hope. The next day Will gives Nico a “Quest kit” packed with ambrosia, necter, a first aid kit, and money. Will tells him how this quest is important and he’ll do great. Nico dosen’t and says “I can’t. The fate of the world is in my shoulders and I don’t even have a third quest member”. Will calms him down and tells him he’ll go and Nico hugs him and says “Thank you”
Nico and Will tell Chrion and he announces it at Breakfest. Bianca is shocked but happy. Most of the camp is shocked that a son of Apollo is going on a quest with two children of Hades. The Apollo cabin is mostly mad execptially Micheal Yew.
After breakfest Will goes to his cabin to grab a few things before the quest. Micheal Yew is infuriated and yells at Will on how he’s going to get himeself killed and how he can’t trust children of Hades because there evil. Will yells back and tells all of his siblings how Bianca and Nico are good people and how there all judging them for their dad which is stupid. He leaves the cabin and is off to Percy’s tree. Before he leave Lee tells Will he’s proud of him for standing up for his friends and that he’s going to do great on the quest.
Bianca, Nico, and Will are by Percy’s tree off to find Zeus lighting bolt. Before they leave though Beckendorf gave Bianca a magic rope he made, to help her in tricky situations.
Starting the Quest
After Nico, Will, and Bianca are driven into town, they take a bus into New Jersey. When they get on the bus, Zeus send monsters after them which Bianca defeats with her bow and arrow
They escape to Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium. After they are served food, Aunty Em wants to take a picture of them to use as models for her statues. However, she tries to turn them to stone instead of using them as models because she is Medusa. Nico cuts off her head, and they leave. They find a lost dog, return it, and get $200. They buy train tickets with that money and get off at the Gateway Arch.
When Nico is alone on the top, Echidna reveals herself, along with her pet, the Chimera. Nico battles the Chimera and is poisoned during the fight. Before he “dies” he prays to his father that Bianca and Will will be safe on the quest. Before Echidna kills him Nico accidentally shadow travels away ( there were shadows around him. I know it dosen’t make sense but I have to work with it) to the ground beneath him.
Going Futher West
Weaken, Nico tries to find Will and Bianca in which he dose. Will and Bianca are crying because Nico is on the verge of death. Will tries to use his healing magic but it isn’t enough. He was sobbing at that point and his tears healed him and took away the poison. They all cry happy tears and Bianca punches Nico is the shoulder and told him not to do that again.
The trio gets on the train and are taken to Denver.
They get off, and go into a diner. Ares comes in and tells them to get his shield at Waterland, and, in turn, he would give them a ride west
They go to Waterland and find out the ride was set up with a trap by Hephaestus. They get out with Aphrodite's Scarf and go back to the diner, and Ares shows them a Kindness International truck
Las Vegas
Once they reach Las Vegas, a bellhop from the Lotus Hotel and Casino invites them to come in. Bianca is a little skeptical and says this place is familiar. The bellhop insists and says it’s okay. The argee and went in. The receptionist asks for there names and when Bianca says them. The receptionist says that Nico and Bianca have a room and asks if they want to renew it. Bianca didn’t trust them but ends up going so Nico and Will are safe.
Nico, Will, and Bianca are given a room. After they enjoy the perks of staying in such a luxurious suite, they decide to go down to the arcade.
Will finds a boy, Darrin, who thinks the year is 1977. Will asks a few more people what the year is, to which they answer 1985 and 1993.
Will finds Nico and Bianca and they immediately leave the hotel
They are relieved to find out from a newspaper that it is still the same year. However, 5 days have already passed, leaving only one day to retrieve the lightning bolt.
The Night Outside
That night they decide to camp outside so they can get some rest. Nico decided to take first watch while Will and Bianca slept. Will woke up in the middle of his shift from a nightmare.
Nico asks if he was okay and Will said yes. Nico knew he lied and asked him again. Will said he dreamt of Nico dying in arms like he did before. Nico promised him he won’t do that again.
Will saw there was something wrong with Nico and asked him. He blurted it out of how he hates being a child of Hades. How everyone thinks of him as an outcast and that they wouldn’t cared if he was dead. Will told him he would upset if he was dead. Nico was his best friend.
Nico thanked him and also thanked him for coming on this quest. They stared into each other eyes for a moment and then Nico quickly looked away. He asked Will why is the pine tree on the hill called Percy?
Will tells him the story of Percy Jackson the other child of the big three. A group of haft bloods and a saytar were chased by a Cyclopes. There names were Annabeth Chase, Luke Castellan, Grover Underwood, and Percy Jackson son of Posiden. He was very loyal and did anything to protect his friends. They were about to reach Camp but the Cyclopes caught up to them. Percy sacrificed himself to save his friends. Posiden was upset his only son was dead and turned him into a pine tree. That tree watches over the camp and once you reach it you know your safe.
Bianca who wasn’t sleeping the whole time but the boys didn’t know that, decided to take watch. Nico and Will fell asleep and Bianca defently knew something was between them.
Reaching the Underworld
While searching for the entrance to the Underworld, they encounter Procrustes. Since Posiden is mad that Hades had two children breaking the oath twice, he sends his son Procrustes to trap Nico and Bianca. He traps Nico and Bianca using his signature technique — causing them to lie down on a bed while being stretched by ropes until they are exactly the same height of the bed
Will tricks him into lying down on one such bed. Procrustes is killed, and the trio proceed to DOA Recording Studios, the cover place for the gates to the Underworld, then enter. There Charon lets Nico and Bianca being children of the Underworld but doesn’t let Will in. Nico says that if he dosen’t his father will hear about this. (Please tell me someone got that reference)
Inside, they discover that the entrance to the Underworld proper is being guarded by Cerberus. Bianca tames him and then Will plays with the giant dog by using a little red ball to keep him distracted, giving Nico and Bianca enough time to pass to see there father
They walk through the Fields of Asphodel and pass by the path to the pit of Tartarus. As they approach the entrance to Tartarus, Beckendorf’s rope try to pull Bianca into it, but she manages to slip out of it. They get into there father’s place.
Nico confronts Hades who believes that he and Bianca were just some spawn and that he dosen’t care about them. He only cares because he needs them to clear his name. Hades says that’s not true and that he cares he just dosen’t have a good way of showing it. He then explains there past of how he put them in the Loucas Hotel for about 70 years to protect them from Zues. He also explains about there mother Maria Di Angelo and how he begged her and there children to live in the underworld which she declined. He also explains how Zues struck her with a lighting bolt and how he needed to protect them. Nico and Bianca were surprised but understood.
While Hades was taking, Nico realizes that Ares has tricked him when he discovers the Master Bolt is in his backpack. He and his friends were teleported by Hades out of the underworld
Fighting Aries
Hades return Nico, Bianca, and Will back to an ocean. They reach the shore, meet Ares, and confront him. Nico then challenges him to a fight.
He uses his sword to battle Ares. Nico eventually stabs him in the heel and Ares starts to bleed ichor. He is about to kill Nico when an evil force in the form of a dark aura convinces him to not strike Nico.
Ares then leaves, giving Nico the Helm of Darkness. Nico tosses it to the Furies, and they take it back to his father
Ending
Nico,Will, and Bianca fly back to New York City to give the lightning bolt to Zeus, despite the dangers of flying.
He proceeds to the Empire State Building and reaches the top, where Olympus is currently located. Zeus accepts the bolt and decided not to kill them. Hades was there to congratulate his children in not dying. Nico and Bianca have a short talk with there father before returning to camp.
Nico bumps into Beckendorf who reveals that he stole the bolt and helm for Kronos and then calls out a poisonous scorpion which stings and nearly kills Nico. Nico is unconscious after the attempt to kill him. Beckendorf manages to escape and leaves Camp Half-Blood. Will cures Nico and they, along with Bianca and Chrion discuss Beckendorf betrayal.
The camp beads are awarded, and the bead for this year - Nico, and Bianca’s first year is a white bead painted with a black helmet in the middle. Will’s was a black bead with a golden sun in the middle. Will leaves Camp Half-Blood to visit his mom Naomi Solace. Nico and Bianca stay at camp year around. The camp slowly learns to accept them and relized there kind, caring, funny people and didn’t judge them on there parentage. Sure some camper still have them dirty looks or talked behind there back but they didn’t care. They found a place where they belonged.
How was that? I worked pretty hard on it and I think it was great. This is going to be a serise and I’m planning on doing PJO and HOO but not TOA because I do not know how to write around that. I hoped you enjoyed that, I tried my best to make it different and tried for it to make sense. Thank you for reading.

a few gay thoughts on wayward son (aka i am disappointed) / a rainbow rowell tutorial: bury ur gay (relationships) by turning them into a dumpster fire
i am very mad and disappointed with wayward son for a lot of reasons and im pretentious so here’s an entire essay about SOME THINGS i hate ab the gay related stuff because this is a better way to spend my time than doing the thousand things i have to do for school and because i am a gender studies minor and a lesbian who spent my most formative years on tumblr! also im sooo sorry im not articulate in this because i am very tired and very angry.
something i don’t talk about in this was the absolute trainwreck of a plot, but just wanted to say that the plot is a trainwreck and the end is a complete cash grab.
i really don’t know how to start this because i have a lot of thoughts, but i think that i’m going to focus on how there was literally no (healthy) snowbaz
okay, i may be wearing rose colored lenses for this one, but, in my opinion, snowbaz was a lot more nuanced in carry on, simply because there was a lot more development in their relationship, with the entire enemies to lovers procession. they both had to learn to trust eachother and other things that are necessary for literally every relationship which is fantastic. whether they were functioning and healthy and not toxic (considering how they were enemies like two months b4 the end of the novel) at the end is a whole other debate but i will not get into that here. basically, what i am saying is that we DO see some healthy development within carry on. for example, by being vulnerable with simon, baz learns to open up to other people.
however, within wayward son, we do NOT. we just get 350 pages of complete bullshit with random bits of ‘baz hates me’ and ‘simon hates me’ sprinkled throughout. THIS MAKES SENSE! i am not saying that it is not realistic for simon and baz to be insecure! however, i AM saying that there is zero communication and it is very unhealthy and bad!!!
i find it concerning that rainbow literally did not write one heart to heart into wayward son in which they both voice their concerns regarding their insecurities. like being in a relationship where you’re convinced the other person secretly hates you is horrible !! it feels fucking shitty !!! not communicating about this is not angsty it’s super bad and you’re fucking yourself and your relationship over and i don’t know HOW rainbow plans to convince us that baz and simon do not at least need a break in the next book, considering that there is already TrOuBle at WaTfOrD apparently, which makes me think that like this book, next book won’t focus much on snowbaz.
personally, i would’ve preferred a book that had a plot that didn’t seem mad-libbed (which is a whole other thing), and actually, like carry on, had some healthy emotional development. like first we had carry on: emotional vulnerability n this could’ve been wayward son: healthy communication. i am not saying that it was not realistic for simon and baz to be extremely closed off in this book and not communicating a lot, as they were in extremely high pressure situations for much of it. (which i may add did not connect at all; for example are they really not getting shit for blowing up all of those vampires at that festival? and what the fuck was the end with the silicon valley tech bros? like ex machina did it better who cares. i wouldve preferred that part to be left out and for a few trump jokes to be thrown in)
overall, i wish this book focused more on each character’s emotional development and was thus more character driven than plot driven. a book that was character driven would’ve connected way better to the first book as well, as we would’ve gotten to focus on lucy and maybe read about old characters such as fiona and nico. (also speaking of fiona is baz really not like. does he just never talk about the fact that his aunt that he loves murders members of his species. i would’ve rather read about his thoughts on this rather than some 300 year old hag eye fucking him, who literally is not old enough to drink in the us)
i’m very tired but ultimately i love carry on because of the gay and the gay in this was underdeveloped bad and also sad. something i want to talk ab more but am too lazy to talk about rn is how younger lgbtq ppl might see the romance within this book, because now i do know that it is unhealthy and i genuinely do not think that in this universe baz and simon should be together for right now at least, but a few years ago i definitely would have glorified it.
@ rainbow just let the gays be happy. that is why we read this. we already have enough media with emotionally stunted gays in unhealthy relationships we did not need this. like literally all i wanted from this was happy gays

Percy Jackson Hogwarts House’s. if you don’t agree that is ok, please try to persuade me otherwise, I would love to hear y’all’s opinions. So with that here we go
Percy- I think Percy is a strong Griffindor. Griffindors tend to stand up for the friends and take the hard part of things. Percys fatal flaw is that he cares for his friends to much, that is such a Griffindor quality. Now I could understand if you would put him in Slitherin but I just think that he fits better in Griffindor. In my opinion Slitherin is more of a cunning, point driven house not a person driven house. So I think he would be put in Griffindor.
Annabeth- now this is a hard one, I could see both Ravenclaw and Slitherin but personally I would put her in Slitherin. I do not think all Slitherins are bad people, and this especially shows for Annabeth. Now the reason I wouldn’t put her in Ravenclaw is because I don’t think she is knowledge driven. She loves to learn and use that in her life but I think that she is more of a leader and uses those things to help her in life. For example when Annabeth and Percy fall into Tartarus the rest of the crew often says that they feel lost because they have no leader. Annabeth is also driven by looking at the big picture not just her friends. Lastly her fatal flaw is that she wants to be in control. This is such a Slitherin quality, she wants be be able to control and have things the way she envisions them.
Piper- Hufflepuff. Do I even need to explain.
Jason- I think Jason is also a Slitherin. Though him and Percy are similar I think this is what sets them apart. For example Jason is much more willing to save Piper than Frank but Percy would go to save both (and probably end up failing, but that is a con if Griffindors). He is driven by love and relationships that last for a long time, I think that is more of a Slitherin quality. This also could be the reason Piper and Jason go so well together (Slitherin+Hufflepuff relationships work most of the time). This one was a little bit harder so if you have any other suggestions please let me know!
Frank- this one is really hard, and it honestly verys on what time period you are asking about. I honestly think Frank was one of the characters who changed the most. So at the start I think he would be Hufflepuff. I cared so much about his friends and family and would do anything for them. But he tried to stay clear of violence, a Hufflepuff thing to do. Then again as the books carried on he began to fight more for his friends than anything else. So I think you could put him in either.
Hazel- ok Hazel is one of my favorite characters and I had to think about this one, but honestly I would put her in Ravenclaw. Now I could honestly understand if you put her in any house. But when fighting and planning she thinks about the entire world, she is driven by the knowledge of the mist and begins to believe in herself without anyone’s help. So will all of that said I would put her in Ravenclaw.
Leo!!- my boy! I looove Leo and honestly I think he would be Griffindor or a Ravenclaw. Now, I think he is so different from Jason and Percy, so putting them all in the same house seams weird but he just feels like a Griffindor to me. He is very brave and dose things for the betterment of the quest. Now I could also put him in Ravenclaw. He loves engineering and he is super invested in both the ship and his dragon but how he “dies” at the end really gets me. He sacrificed his life for his love and did it to save people he didn’t even know that well. Witch I guess could be seen as Ravenclaw because he saw the big picture buttt. I don’t know! Ahh. Ok so it is between Ravenclaw and Griffindor. ( I’m kinda leaning more towards Ravenclaw but I don’t know)
Ok that’s it, I will be doing the side characters soon! (Nico, Will, Calypso, Rayna etc.)

Pjo/Hoo characters as Hogwarts students, an epic series : Percy Jackson, pt 3.
( made by perssasssy on IG )
- Alright, it was a real struggle to sort Percy.
- I mean yes he’s extremely loyal and brave but aside from that which hogwarts house really fits him?
- Slytherin. And I’m going to tell you exactly why.
- He is extremely driven, motivated and ambitious, if he wants something he will get it done. He has the the strong desire to put his mind on one thing and achieve it.
- I mean, go to Alaska? A place where even Gods cannot help you? He did it.
- Gryffindors choose what is the right thing to do whilst Percy will always put his loved ones first and would do absolutely anything for them. Would he have defied Chiron and broke the rules in order to save Annabeth if not?
- He also fights like a beast. Not always playing by the rules or being just.
- And let’s not forget about his dark side. Remember when he tried to kill a goddess with her own poison? He would have done it if Annabeth wouldn’t have begged him to stop.
-Everyone was pretty intimidated by him at first.
- But they soon realized how much of a dork he actually is.
- CEO of annoying Annabeth.
- “hey percy, somebody once-“
- “TOLD ME, THE WORLD WAS GONNA ROLL ME-“
- “if i hear ONE more shreck reference, i AM going to tell nico what really happened to his exploding snap cards”
- “FINE I’M SORRY”
- You’re either his friend or his enemy, there’s no in-between.
- How does he spend his free time? Swimming in The Lake. The Giant Squid? His best friend. Hotel? Trivago.
- A rule-breaker™.
- Literally doesn’t give two fucks about anything related to school but somehow passes all of his exams (everyone suspcts that Annabeth is behind his decent grades).
- But he’s actually pretty smart himself.
- Jason once found him zoomed out, a blank stare splattered on his face, while they were in the Transfigurations classroom.
- He just stared at Percy until he heard him mumbling softly to himself “i just wanna know how it feels like to know what the fuck is going on”.
- The teacher had to kick Jason out of the classroom because he couldn’t stop laughing while Percy just watched the whole scene, visibly confused which only made it funnier.
- His favorite subject is potions, and he’s actually better than Annabeth at this and she absolutely hates.
- “not so wise anymore, huh Wise Girl?“
- “shut up, perceus.”
- His favorite spell is “aguamenti”, the water-making spell.
- Because of this, Leo won’t stop calling him Persea.
- Probably one of the most powerful wizards of his generation.
- Once, in defence against the dark arts class, they had to face their fears.
- When Percy’s turn came, he was paralyzed.
- He was facing his worst fear, losing the people he cared about and not being able to do anything about it.
- He was feeling like he had failed.
- He saw his family, his friends, and most painfully he saw Annabeth screaming his name, while looking at him with a pure look of terror.
- The teacher had to get him out of class and he remained in his room the entire day.
- Plays Quidditch, he’s a seeker.
- “hey leo, can i ask you a dumb question?”
- “better than anyone i know”
- “THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT” *loud snort from the other room*

“ CLAW YOUR WAY TO THE TOP, LITTLE EMPEROR — AMBITION SITS WELL ON YOUR SHOULDERS, POWER IN THE SHARPNESS OF YOUR TEETH. — ”
next gen squad meme: [2/7] characters of colour ↯ HUGO WEASLEY ; slytherin, halfblood — class of 2026.                                         born in devon. london-located post-hogwarts.
hugo weasley grows up in the shadow of the golden trio. another way of looking at it is that he grows up illuminated in the light they give off. hugo isn’t always sure of which is true. he’s not even sure if he has a preference. from the age of twelve, he knows he’s going to be minister for magic one day. ( his best friend, cepheus malfoy, — the younger of draco malfoy’s two children, and the dangerous one — knows from the first week of sharing a dorm together, and his sister rose expects something like it from hugo ever since he’s eight and a half and negotiating rules with their parents. )
he follows his cousin albus potter into slytherin, to pretty much nobody’s surprise — well, except, perhaps, for those who do not know him, but hugo doesn’t particularly care about their opinions anyway. one day, he will, because such is the nature of politics, but not at age eleven, when he is carving a place for himself in a world which defines him by the deeds of his parents. at eleven, he thinks of who he is, and who he could be. it’s a lot to bear on the shoulders of one so young, but hugo is not atlas, and he is unafraid of the weight.
                                                          ⥈
hugo is sharp, perceptive and pragmatic — his cousin lucy teases him for wearing monogrammed cufflinks ( ‘it’s pretentious,’ she says. ‘it’s pragmatic,’ he corrects — they speak of status, of prestige, of respectability, of success. he is young for his position, and these are the sorts of things that people absorb when they try to take his measure, even if they don’t realise it. ) and roxanne calls his pragmatism soulless with a teasing laugh, but hugo weasley has always known what it takes to succeed, and he meets these with a smirk or patient rebuttal. he loves his family, truly — he knows the papers, particularly gossip rags like accio!, try to present them as a family in ruin, torn asunder by their differing houses and personalities and loyalties, but they’re wrong. they bicker, of course, and hugo isn’t entirely sure whether he even likes all of them sometimes, but he loves them. they’re his family. he’s much more like his mother than his father — and rose, with her quick quips and easy charisma, has always taken more after their father — but he respects his father’s ability to defuse a room as much as he respects his ability to strategise, and he respects both of those traits more than any other. that’s not to say he won’t intentionally invite over friends with the specific goal of winding up his father, though — ron weasley has always been excellent at turning a range of shades of puce, and mia urquhart has always especially delighted in provoking him to that stage.
upon graduation, hugo and cepheus join the ministry — cepheus in the department of magical law enforcement, following fred weasley, and hugo in the department of international magical cooperation. cepheus sticks around for a few years, bouncing around various areas of the department, with a particular focus on the wizengamot, before officially leaving the ministry to work in his cousin alexandria’s employ for her campaign teams ( he spent most of his time employed at the ministry moonlighting for her anyway, and using his position in the ministry to the advantage of alexandria greengrass’ work ), but hugo stays. he works with the international magical office of law and with the british representatives of the international confederation of wizards primarily, then ends up as assistant to the minister, where he intends to stay for a few years, to see how the work is done. following that, he intends to become head of the department of the international magical cooperation and then finally make his bid for minister of magic — the youngest minister the wizarding world will have ever seen, as well as being their first openly gay minister of colour. these are all aspects of himself which are used against him in his campaign — his youth, his sexuality, his blood status, and his race, even if only the first is ever explicitly mentioned — but he refuses to tamp down or minimise any of them. perhaps his mother’s justice-driven brand of idealism ( pragmatic as she may be, she still holds stubbornly to what should be right, even when nobody has her back — much like her niece lucy ) runs strong in him, or maybe lucy’s thoughts about the truth have rubbed off on him more than expected, but hugo weasley will not let anyone else tell him what makes him worthy or not, especially bigots. he will win: just watch.

hugo was sorted into slytherin alongside cepheus malfoy, who quickly became his best friend, and mia urquhart, who became another of his best friends. cepheus’ cousin jessamine nott was sorted into hufflepuff in their year — the first nott or greengrass to be sorted into hufflepuff ever. hugo’s never been especially sympathetic towards others, but he was deeply aware how it could be to walk into a new house where nobody expected you to go — he at least had albus with him. jessamine didn’t have anybody. it didn’t take much, but he mentioned it to his two hufflepuff cousins: dominique weasley, the head girl and absolutely most chill member of their family, and molly weasley, who was absolutely never going to be a prefect, but could always be counted on for a fun time and a megawatt smile. the two of them took jessamine under their wing, and between them, cepheus and mia — who adopted jessamine into her own girl gang, along with madelaine avery ( who’d ended up in ravenclaw, and had been mia’s friend forever, and mia had always protected ) and eventually vienna montague, who dormed with hugo’s cousin lily potter in gryffindor — he counted jessamine amongst his friends. he spent most of his time with cepheus and mia, but increasing amounts with lily, jessamine, maddy and vienna as well, and occasionally the wood twins, primarily because of jessamine and lily. hugo’s friend group is by far the most terrifying of all of the weasley-potters’ friends — whilst there have always been some irrepressible and terrifying friends amongst their various squads, nobody quite beats the terror trio that is hugo weasley, cepheus malfoy and mia urquhart.
it’s no wonder, then, that when hugo runs for minister, he uses alexandria greengrass’ team to run his campaign. they’ve been working on it behind the scenes for years, particularly because cepheus, mia and vienna all work for alexandria, but when it comes time to make it official, he would never consider anyone else. the question of romance comes up during the campaign, of course, both the official one and the shadow ones they run for him over the years — his sexuality is one thing he does not hide, but they have to ask whether they need to cover up any affairs of the heart. truthfully, hugo’s not really sure. he and cepheus have spent their adult lives making important people fall in love with them, wrapping them around their fingers with a cool smirk or perceptive remark. many people, hugo finds, are attracted to power — and then those who aren’t are attracted to the idea of being seen. hugo deals in both. sometimes he wonders if, maybe, while he and cepheus spent their time making people fall in love with them, they might have fallen in love with each other too — but that’s a dangerous line of thought to follow, and so he doesn’t. he thinks if anyone knows what he’s been musing on, it’s mia, but she hasn’t said anything. still, he’s considered asking for her thoughts — she’s uncannily perceptive and blunt as all hell, and, most importantly, fiercely loyal. for now, it’s easier to amuse himself by wrapping dominic creevey around his finger and wondering, absent-mindedly, about nico zabini and the wood twins, rory and nicholas ( though he knows that jessamine would have his head if he ever broke their hearts — hufflepuff or not, hugo knows better than to underestimate her ).

The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan paperback, 381 pages, goodreads ★★★★★
spoilers under the cut!
I’ve read a lot of series endings in my time, and this is one definitely makes the top of the list. Riordan’s usual blend of myth and melodrama was at it’s finest in this book, the character driven scenes were just as impactful as the battle scenes, and I found it extremely hard to put the book down because of just how action-packed it was. This entire series reads like the best kind of movie, entertaining, engaging, and insightful in unexpected ways. I’m honestly astonished by how much more I enjoyed this book than the rest of the series, and that’s saying a lot since there’s yet to be a book I dislike.
The Last Olympian did miss some of the now iconic hallmarks of the series, choosing instead to jump right into the action, and while it was a bit of a disappointment I can’t really complain about it. I loved the way all the different plot threads weaved together to create a complex but still followable story tapestry chockfull of surprises. The dynamics between demigods and their godly parents has always been a plot line I wish Riordan followed more, and getting to see a bit more of that in this book was a real treat for me.
I loved getting to watch Percy develop throughout this series, but I think this book showed a side of him that wasn’t as prominent in the rest of the books, the side that’s great in battle. There was a lot of Nico in this book, and every scene he had has just made me love him more. At this point there’s practically a seventy-foot monument made out of solid gold to him located inside my heart, but I can’t really complain about it because this boy needs love. Annabeth was fantastic, as per usual, it’s really quite refreshing to see a female character be allowed to be as smart as Annabeth is, she frequently demonstrates her vast amount of knowledge and saves the day with it. I must admit to not really caring about Rachel before this book, she never seemed particularly important to me since we was a human surrounded by kids that are quite literally half god, but I was glad to see I was wrong about her .
I’ve seen people complaining about the obvious plot armour used throughout this book in a couple of reviews, and while I have to admit it’s definitely there, I can’t say I’m particularly upset by it. This is after all a middle grade a novel, and while there’s been a small amount of death in most of the other books (see: Bianca in The Titan’s Curse, no I’m not still crying), it’s not on the level that The Last Olympian would have reasonably required. Speaking of the title, I’m more than a tad disappointed that the book was titled after Hestia, only for her to appear for a total of 3 or 4 scenes. As a self-professed child of Dionysus it would be interesting to know more about how he replaced Hestia, especially told from her point of view, since he’s a bit of an ass.
The relationship development in this book wasn’t quite on par with what I’ve come to expect, but since the majority of this book was focused on battle scenes I can’t say that’s unwarranted. I love seeing Percy and Nico interact, I think their differences are really interesting, same with Percy and Thalia. I’ll keep holding out that maybe one day we’ll get to see all three of them interact. I was also surprisingly into the Percy/Annabeth scenes, something I would never have said before. I think they’re finally in a place where I could conceivably support them together, which is great because I know they are actually canon.
I have to be honest and say I’m not sure if Riordan can top this. There was a few minor complaints to be had, but not book is ever going to be perfect. In fact I’d say this is pretty much as close as they come. I can’t wait to pick up The Lost Hero and continue to read about all the characters I’ve come to fall in love with.

screams i love him and rereading this app gave me so many feels i died. have at it babes.
♔ INTRODUCTION
HELLO!! I’m Snow, I’m 20 years old and I’m from the (GMT)+3 timezone. I use she/her pronouns.
♔ ACTIVITY
I’m active in one other rpg currently, and I have college to keep me a bit busy at times ( a BIT lmao) but I always make time for rp, and I can safely say I’ll be online 6-7/10 of the time.
♔ HOW DID YOU FIND US?
A whiiiiile back through the hp rp tag.
♔ HOW ARE YOU?
Nervous? And excited!! And very giddy bc i fell in love with the character I’m applying for and I can’t wait for the chance to play them in this verse ekbfuceos Ikwdcn!!!
♔ WHAT HARRY POTTER CHARACTER DO YOU IDENTIFY WITH MOST?:
Weirdly enough I never thought of this before, but I suppose – Neville Longbottom. Or Severus Snape. I can’t decide.
♔ ANYTHING ELSE?
nope
IN CHARACTER
 ♔ DESIRED CHARACTER
Dirk Cresswell.
♔ FACE CLAIM
My absolutely number one choice for dirk would be Ezra Miller. He just has the exact look I had envisioned for Dirk while writing him out in my head, especially in Perks – the easy-going attitude, the dramatic hand gestures, the charming smile, the confidence, and the slightest touch of flamboyance. If the admins can’t see him working, I could go for landon liboiron, who shares similar qualities with Ezra but isn’t quuuite what I’m looking for – in a pinch, Xavier Dolan could work for me, but he doesn’t have nearly enough smiley gifs tbh he needs to be less emo (still pretty tho my GOD) or nico Tortorella, who has the confidence and positivity but not, er. The gait, I suppose? I dunno, but I’m really hoping Ezra works for you guys, he’s really the best choice I could think of!! (for some reason Miles Tiller just doesn’t click?? With me?? At all??)
♔ REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER
I love, love, love building characters up from scratch. Writing out a character from the ground up and layering them with complexities, with virtues and vices and faults, with feelings and insecurities and demons of their own, I love it. It’s the most exciting thing I could think of, and I love writing characters with blatant, intriguing contradictions – the elegant lady with a lion’s roar, the honest man who is a hypocrite as well, the boy who both craves and hates the idea of affection, at once – I love exploring their nuances, seeing how they play out, how their traits push and pull at one another and make the character whole, alive and breathing as though they were real. I guess you could say it’s my passion. It’s also why I tend to choose characters who were barely canon, or who were ocs of the roleplay. It gives me a wonderful amount of freedom to be creative, and I like to take full advantage of that.
Dirk Cresswell strikes me as someone who is confident and arrogant and a little flamboyant, but hardly with the self-esteem to match. he’s petty and competitive and a little dramatic, but he’s also rather clever, intelligent, and competent. He is kind, and loyal, and unforgiving. Betrayal is a sin, an unforgivable sin, and yet what he does with Aversio is not betrayal to his friends – protection, justice, It Has To Be Done. He gives it a hundred names, a hundred reasons, and learns to shoulder the guilt and adjust to the weight of it and keep moving. (he is yet to forgive himself for it, but he was never deluded enough to think justice was easy to come by. If the price for their safety is to taint his relationship with them, then he is willing to pay such a price.)
(the thought occurs to him, once – would it be betrayal if he were to simply severe ties with them, if there were no friendships for him to forsake, if he were not forced into a conflict of loyalty and justice? would he have to betray his friends if they were simply no longer friends? The thought is dismissed with a wry abruptness – perhaps a braver soul than him could go through with such a thing, perhaps a better man than him would do it. Dirk is content, for now, with reminding himself of why what they’re doing is important, why Aversio is the only way.)
He is an arrogant boy with an inferiority complex. He is driven by his emotions – he loves and he loves fully, with an open heart, but he never trusts with the same ease, he was a boy who was shown love and taught not to trust it. in his veins thrums a desire for justice, for fairness, for equality, it beats and it burns like a second heart, it keeps him awake some nights and it keeps him moving. It drives him, this keen sense for right and wrong.
Dirk is not an idealist, however. He is an optimist, though his optimism is not born of naivety – it is not born of ignorance, of innocence, he knows of tragedy and he knows of prejudice and of oppression, but seeing the best in life and the best in people is what he chooses to do, what has helped him past the dreary days when he’d thought there would be no light at the end of the tunnel.
to further show how I envision him to be, I would like to expand on some of his traits:
+ TALENTED:
Dirk’s magical talents were difficult to miss, even to those who really, really tried, and it was not entirely for the considerable amount of bragging on Dirk’s part – though, arguably, that was a large part of it – but his hands, deft with potions and charms and defensive spells, where quick to catch people’s attention, and keep it. his exceptional dueling skills had not gone unnoticed, either, not by his teachers, and certainly not by his pureblooded schoolmates, who have repeatedly tested his abilities first hand.
+SOCIABLE:
Dirk is That One Kid that knows everyone, and who everyone knows. He joined every extracellular activity the school had to offer at one point or another, he never missed a chance to hang out and have fun, and he was always interested in meeting new people and making new friends. His easy humor and confident attitude drew people to him and relaxed them in his company, his optimism and cheeky remarks making him an uplifting presence to have around. He is secretive, however, keeping his emotional troubles and inner demons far away from preying eyes, even those he considers close, preferring to pull a cheery grin upon his lips than admitting to the guilt than is slowly chipping away at him from within.
-TRUST ISSUES:
Dirk has been shown love and taught not to trust it. a parting gift, from his mother, one could say. he finds difficulty – immense difficulty – in sharing his troubles, or his secrets of any kind, with anyone. he loves and he cares about his friends and there is very little he wouldn’t do for them, but trust is something that is difficult to come by, for him, and it is something that frustrates his friends to no end.
-ARROGANT:
Dirk has an exaggerated sense of his own abilities. He is talented, yes, anyone would be hard pressed to deny that, but he tends to – overestimate, what he can do. It could also be put down to his perfectionist nature, that he would bite off more than he could chew and simply expect himself to rise up to the challenge.
It is also important to note, however, that as sure as he is of his own capabilities and talents, he is never sure of himself. Of Dirk, of his own self-worth and of his own self-esteem. He is an arrogant braggart with an inferiority complex.
♔ PREFERRED SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS
SEXUALITY: gay, and not particularly interested in hiding it.
SHIPS: tbh I’m all about chemistry. I don’t particularly mind if no romantic interests cropped up along the way, i’m more interested in exploring dirk as a character first and foremost. If a romantic interest does come along I would absolutely be down to explore that as well – I would also be interested in plots that don’t necessarily end happily for either character tbh lmao angst is my natural scent like fucking slather me in it okay. (side note: I love. Unlikely pairings. Very much.)
♔ CREATE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR CHARACTER:
Mockblog: dork-cresswell.tumblr.com  (I posted the kinda sorta long history/bio section in the mockblog, I hope it would be considered as part of the application as well? Thank you :) )
IN CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE
♔ If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it? Feel free to name it:
Is there, like. Is there a potion to just. Make pureblooded bigots stop being so bigoted? Or make them disappear, or something, I’m not picky.
♔ You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one other character and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you’d want with you:
Sal, definitely. Did you see her swing that wretched bat of hers? You don’t want to get in the way of that, it’s absolutely sick. you’ll love it. And I suppose some food would be good, for the object, wouldn’t it.
♔ What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?
When to take a bloody break. I can never do that. Sal’s always breathing down my neck about it, but I can’t bloody well help it, okay? Somethings just have to get done.
♔ What is one thing you would never want said about you?
That I’m a braggart. Because I’m not, and anyone who says that is a bloody liar, okay? I just like to let people know I’m better than them. Sometimes. At some things. It’s not bragging if it’s true, is it?
(ooc: That he isn’t good enough. That he is lesser, that he is a disappointment. His perfectionist attitude is largely due to survivor’s guilt – he blames himself, in part, for what had happened to Robert, and had subconsciously spent the years following trying to make up for what he’d ‘done’, or hadn’t, as it were.)
WRITING SAMPLE
darkness. that was the first thing he was aware of. and soft covers – softer than the ones he had at his apartment. a distinct feeling of annoyance…
“–et up already!”
ah, yes. little sisters, he’s been told, were angels. it’s a good thing he doesn’t believe everything he’s told anymore. he buries his face further into the pillow, and tries not to think of why he made his way here in the middle of the night. “leave me alone.” he mutters, a little petulantly.
“dirk, it’s getting late. get up.”
“i can’t.” he groans, perhaps more wounded than he really was. “you’ll have to go on without me. i have reached the end of my tether, i can only further hold you back.”
“dirk.”
“i’ve lived a fulfilling life, i have no regrets. you have to promise me you’ll do the same.”
“dirk.”
“no.” he waves her away, burying his face further into the pillow, though that’s only to hide the growing grin upon his face. “i know it’s hard, but you can live without me, Sal, i believe in yo–” and the world flips, suddenly, upside down, light assaulting his eyes as his head hit the floor with a loud thud.
there is a moment of silence. from his place on the floor, he blinks. “why would you do that.”
“you were being dumb again.”
he sits up on his elbows, blinking up at her again. “you pushed me off the couch.” he repeats. “what kind of sister does that?”
she rolls her eyes, though there’s a hint of a smile pulling at her lips. she throws him a bottle of soda and he catches it. “go wash your face.” she says, sitting down beside him and opening a bottle of her own, evidently not expecting him to get up and go wash. “you’re gross.”
“thanks.” he deadpans, sitting up and leaning his back against the sofa. “i feel so loved.”
the room is silent, then, save for the sound of bottles clinking, the caps popped off and the bubbles hissing away. she adjusts herself for a moment, and dirk waits for the inevitable.
“well?” she asks, and she doesn’t have to add anything, she’s asked him this a hundred times: what’s going on? why did you come here in the middle of the night? why were you screaming in your sleep? why are you scared? why are you hurt? can’t you tell me, your sister, am i losing you too?
he doesn’t say anything. he never says anything. he is afraid his lips would open and his sins would all come spilling out, that he would tell her everything, everything, that she would not understand. That she would look at him and see something vile, something scary. that she would never want to look at him again. he says nothing. he can’t afford to lose her too.
“oh, i see.” she says, a lilt to her tone that would have suggested lightness, in a less dreary moment. “you can’t tell me, again.”
the air grows heavy between them, thick with secrets he can’t not keep. ‘i killed someone’, he wants to say, desperately, but doesn’t. he brings the bottle to his lips and takes a long swig instead.
he is not a murderer. he is not Dark, he is not a bad person, he is not a criminal. he knows this, he knows, and he knows they’re all just doing what has to be done, that Aversio is the only way, that fighting fire with fire is all that seems to work.
he knows this. he knows what they’re doing, and he knows why they’re doing it, and he knows why it’s important.
but some nights he needs to remember. some nights he seems to forget.
she rests her head against his shoulder, her hands wrapped around his arm. he only lasts a beat, or two, before he turns and envelopes her in his arms as well. he holds her tightly, his mouth pressed into a thin line, careful not to say a word or more would spill.
this is what he’s doing: murder.
this is why he’s doing it: she is here. she is here, and alive, and whole, and unharmed. she will stay this way, and he will make sure of it.

the writing meme: nico!! ur nico has one of the most distinct voices ive ever read n i gotta.... deep inhale.. gotta kno ur thought process behind that. also maki if ur down for it, bc ur anime mack interp got me S h o ok td
Tumblr media
hdsjfk okay u,wu i will talk abt Thos Kids....
nkmk are defs my favs out of all the love live kids....maki is rlly important to me for a whole host of reasosn that u will find out when i finally finish writing maki fic, and nico is just. god i love nico yazawa so much
the two of them make an incredibly potent pairing, and it’s honestly kinda tough to imagine any kind of canon-compliant situation where they’re not super important to each other!! even in AUs where they’re not paired together, i still find myself making them bffs at the very least ;;
so!! this got kinda long so heres the Read More
i’m actually gonna start with maki bc she’s by far the easiest to sum up
- for one, maki is actually...pretty kid-like. for all the “maturity” she tries to give off, it is very much something she constructs and not something she naturally exudes. maki is pretty idealistic, despite trying to make herself come off as cynical? it’s difficult to write, but you know someone just Knows Her when they manage to frame her POV like she’s being cynical, but when you read what she’s actually saying it comes off idealistic!! yeah. she also has a tendency to get really excited!!!! and then pretend she isn’t. she’ll go and try really hard on her own but she gets suuuuper embarassed when people call her out on it
- which brings me to my next point - maki is really worried about how people see her! she works really hard to construct this persona of ~maturity~ and ~elegance~ and ~intelligence~ but when u talk to her for like .2 seconds u realise she’s kinda adorable? definitely this part of her comes from probably being around adults more than other kids when she was young - and she’d probably get praised for being mature and so naturally she’d think maturity was some kind of end goal. regardless, her facade drops when she finally feels comfortable with people, but it Does take a lot!! the sleepover episode in s1 did a lot for her but i don’t think maki had truly opened up until they sung snow halation in s2...at least from the anime timeline!
- maki’s love for music - i suppose this is kind of an obvious one, but it’s still entirely critical to her character. maki loves the Shit out of music!!! she wants to make people feel things, she wants to Move them with the things she composes. i don’t think she has a particular preference for any type of music, either. she does say she prefers classical + jazz, but keep in mind maki has a Persona to uphold. she sings aishiteru banzai with all her heart when she thinks she’s alone - i think she deeply appreciates any type of music.
- extending on that point abt maki’s persona - her pursuit for “maturity”, if you could call it that, goes beyond that. she genuinely believes she should be trying to be more mature, and i definitely think this part of her is a huge reason why she conflicts with nico a lot! regardless, maki has a tendency to deny herself things she likes based on the premise that it’s immature. she’ll isolate herself in order to prevent participation in activities that seem immature, but because she still actually does want to participate, she’ll just kinda satellite around it. she also kinda wants to grow up as fast as possible, i think.
- maki gets really attached to her friends!! i like to think that bc of a strict up-bringing, maki never had the opportunity to make all that many friends, so being in high school with muse is such a good experience!! she’s the one who pushes to assert her friendship with rinpana in episode 4 season 1, and despite getting embarassed over it, she really does care for them!!! i can imagine not being after school navigators was hurtful for her bc it’s literally her three best friends....she was probably placated by the fact she got to be in the ~cool hot~ group solge but still, y’know?
- i could go on and on but the rule said 5 max so :ccccc
anyways niconii time!!
- nico is super, duper passionate about becoming an idol. this deep-rooted passion and desire to succeed is at the root of her character, and really, if your nico isn’t gunning with all her might for a particular goal, you’re not writing nico right!! being an idol, to nico, is probably the most important thing to her after her family. most importantly, as long as she thinks she has even a .1% chance to succeed, she’ll go for it with everything she’s got. i think that’s really important
- nico is very family orientated, too!! she loves her mum and siblings (and probably her dad, too, wherever he is) with all her heart! a lot of people felt conflicted abt nico’s episode in s2, but i think it showed the extent she’s willing to go in order to protect her family!! nico doesn’t come from money - a single mother with four kids is going to be incredibly difficult to live with. in order to give them something to hope for, she constructed a persona for herself in which she lives as a super idol - probably so that her little siblings have something to hope for!! or smtn. idk the gravity of nico’s situation is definitely dependent on ur preferences but regardless niconii loves her fam a Ton
- nico is also pretty mature, actually. this is kind of a weird one bc nico acts like honorin for the most part, and even maki calls her out on being immature (which is hilarious, honestly). the thing is, nico has had to look after her siblings for a Long time - which probably meant she didn’t have all that much free time when she was young to go and...be a kid and do kid things?? and part of her realises that her time as a Kid in highschool is ending soon and that when she leaves she’s going to need to take on adult responsibilities...but for now, she can be a kid. so she does - she goofs off, acts like an idiot and a child because she can! nico is also very pragmatic!! for all everyone mocks her she really does have a good understanding of the way the idol world works (she’s just maybe in the wrong show bc honoka kousaka is actually a deity or smtn), and whilst she can sometimes be a bit cynical, she’s actually really good at acknowledging when she’s being shitty abt smtn, owning up to it and apologising and learnign from it. ya
- nico might be cynical but she’s actually kinda hopeful when she lets herself be? it’s not constructed necessarily, it’s a genuine lack of faith in the world, but it’s not so strong that she can’t deny it - especially being with muse and honoka even more so inspires her to just...have a little faith in fate again. or have a little faith in nozomi, both are good.
- also, nico has a potty mouth. sorry i don’t make the rules
and then there’s nkmk as a concept!!! dam i luv these kids. they’re kind of difficult to talk about bc the way they’d interact is almost entirely dependent on the situation, but i’ll try and speak generally!!
- nkmk conflict, fundamentally. nico and maki have so many contrasting personality traits, they’re awful. but they’re also really similar in a lot of aspects, and have a lot to relate to each other with, and a lot to learn from each other. before they hop the honesty fence, they’re probably just gonna fight a lot, after the hop the honesty fence, they’re probably gonna have a few minor disagreements every now and then but generally get along really well! when they’re sitting on the honesty fence? well, thats the interesting part!!
- nico is somebody who acts childish but is probably mature on the inside. maki is somebody who acts mature but is probably childish on the inside. personally i feel like this is a big thing they’d come into conflict with each other about - they have different values and come from entirely different places so it takes a lot of work for them to understand each other!!
- nozomi annoys the shit out of both of them. she’s a meddler and stick her nose into places she shouldn’t. they love her, and also love to hate her.
- they’re both very driven people, but different things get in the way of them achieving their goals!! nico, i think, tends to have external obstacles - physical or otherwise something outside of herself!! maki tends to have internal obstacles - preconceptions or mental obstacles that prevent her from achieving her goals.
- it’s 2:30am and i need to sleep but hopefully this is what u wanted...thank for reading if u made it this far wao i wrote a ton...

Stuff about Chika and Honoka
I've been thinking about the similarities between some members of Aqours and Muse, and I've always thought that Sunshine did a really good job of fleshing out everyone enough to make them feel different and unique without making them too similar to the past members of Muse. Especially since early on, when we started learning more and more about these characters and during early episodes of Sunshine, it seemed really popular to draw comparisons between both groups and try to find similarities, which was completely fine and an understandable thing to do. But as the show went on and we keep learning more about Aqours, I'm really liking how well they're distancing the two groups.
Something that I’ve really liked is the way that they are differentiating Chika from Honoka, even if they are seemingly the most similar and are the easiest to compare. I say this because of how easy it would have been to have Chika be a copy of Honoka to make Sunshine work, but that never really happened. Instead, Chika is really allowed to grow and become her own type of leader despite how much she idolized Muse, and it’s something that I thought was really well done and played on people’s expectations for Chika going into the show.
And I just kinda wanted to ramble on about these two.
That’s not to say that Chika and Honoka don’t share some traits and other things. Because they do, probably more than any other comparison you could make between the two groups.
The most obvious comparison between the two is that they are both leaders of their idol groups. For Honoka, it seemed to be more open that everyone accepted her as the leader, while with Chika it is sort of just known that she is though it was never really stated outright like it was with Honoka. But at the end of the day, they are both the agreed upon leaders by everyone in their groups.
Their similar personalities is also an easy comparison. Both of them, when they find something to put their all into, are very cheerful, energetic, and outgoing. They both are almost always upbeat, more than most everyone else in their respective groups. To put it simply they are both infectiously happy people, and it’s something that gets talked about for the both of them, for the good and the bad that comes along with it.
Another more understated similarity is how they seem to view themselves. Neither Chika or Honoka see themselves as anything special. While I think it’s a much more serious thing for Honoka, they both refer to themselves as simple girls who just happened to love school idols, never seeming to understand what makes them great, or that other people see them as great people. With Chika, it’s those constant reminders to everyone that she’s just someone who wants to sparkle and loves school idols, a simple small town girl. With Honoka, she just doesn't seem to think she’s anything special at all. And though it is a similarity, it shows a bit differently in both of them.
They both have orange hair.
That’s really where most of the similarities end. Though I’ve probably missed a few things that you can feel free to point out.
But what made Chika such a great character to me was the ways that they kept all of these similarities, but at the same time allowed her to be her own unique character by making some small and big differences in how she did things when compared to Honoka.
Leadership style
While maybe not the most noticeable difference, Honoka and Chika’s different leadership styles was something that really set them apart in a very meaningful and important way.
Honoka leads first and foremost from the front. She is the person that rushes ahead of everyone else and will always be leading everyone forward. You can either choose to follow her (Kotori and Umi) or she will pull you right along with her, whether you really want to or not (Maki and Nico). But everyone knows that as long as Honoka is the one up ahead, they’ll all experience wonderful and amazing things that they may not have been able to do on their own. Honoka is driven by pure determination and running headfirst towards a goal, not stopping until it’s achieved, for better or worse. She runs on pure drive and charisma alone, and though she loves to have her friends alongside her, there really isn’t much stopping her once she starts.
Chika leads from the middle. She acts as a center that the entire group, no matter how large, can rally around and move forward with. For Chika that’s the most important thing, bringing everyone together because she believes that people shine their brightest the more people that you have around, it’s something she talks about pretty consistently. While Honoka thrives on moving forward with reckless abandon, sometimes missing things in the process, Chika thrives on bringing people around her. Chika is almost always in the middle of helping people solve problems directly and being a constant reassuring force for everybody in Aqours. She’s a mixture of cheerful energy and meaningful understanding that makes her a good emotional middle for the group. Chika is there to provide the push everyone in group needs at different times, while also walking alongside them to shine in her own way.
Emotional understanding and friends
Don’t get me wrong, for both of them, their friends might be the most important thing in the world. But the way they solve problems and their awareness of issues I think is a major difference.
Honoka’s largest fault, that we see come back and bite her, is her inability to notice small things around her when she sets her mind on something. Though that doesn't mean she’s incapable of helping people, she actually often does. It’s just that when Honoka helps someone it’s through some grand inspiring act, or she says or does something unconsciously that helps. To me, it never really seems like Honoka knows the effect she has on people, no matter how much she cares about her friends. But once she does notice something she will do all she can to fix it, it’s just that getting there can be a bit of a rough road. As a lot of things are when it comes to Honoka, the help she gives to people in the group comes from somewhere that she probably isn’t even aware of.
Chika is almost the opposite. She notices when there are problems with the people around her, and does what she can to help them or fix whatever the issue is. Whether it’s her complete acceptance of Yoshiko’s chunni stuff and getting her to join, noticing that something was off with You and going to her home, or finally getting the third-years to sit down and shut up, Chika notices problems and plays a very direct role in fixing them. Her push she gives Riko to go to Tokyo to perform really shows this better than anything else. She knows that letting Riko go play is what this was all about, and is able to talk her into going. Chika plays a very direct and important role in fixing some of the more broken aspects of the group, and she does it knowingly, very well, and in a way that makes her admired amongst some of the other members.
Understanding their role
Not sure if that’s the best was to phrase it, but I think this is an interesting difference to make. Because in Muse, Honoka’s role as the leader is much more solidly understood by the group and there is even an entire episode dedicated to the topic. Whereas with Chika, it is much less openly acknowledged. It’s hinted at, and I think we can understand that she is, but it’s never as overt as what happens with Honoka.
Having said that, Honoka never seems to acknowledge or really understand that she is seen as the leader of the group. This sort of goes back to her inability to see anything amazing about herself or anything she does, but throughout all of the show and the movie, I don’t think we ever really see Honoka acknowledge her role. She still fills the role and goes around leading everybody in the group, but she never really comes to understand that what she is doing is leading people. Leadership is almost second nature to Honoka, and while she is very good at it and everyone who meets her says she is, she never seems to understand the effect and changes she can have on people. So while everyone who meets her understands and even say that she is a great leader, Honoka herself never comes to know, or even think that about herself.
Chika has a very good understanding of her place in the group. She knows that people will look to her when things go bad, or if they need start heading toward their next goal. For me, the best example of this is the train ride back from live in Tokyo. She does her best to put up a strong face because she feels since this was her idea that she must own up for all the bad that happens. Despite You’s prodding, she keeps her feelings inside and does her best to reassure everyone that what happened was okay, despite us learning it definitely wasn’t. Chika understands that sometimes the group will look to her, and she embraces it by taking it by smiling and doing whatever she can, sometimes hurting herself in the process. Because she knows that, despite seeing herself as a very simple girl, if she can bring everyone together, they’ll all do and achieve wonderful things.
Honestly, there is probably a few more things I could touch on, but for me, these were some of the biggest things that I noticed and enjoyed.
If you saw something I missed please point it out, or just ask me. I’m always open to talking about two of my favorite characters. And really this whole thing is strange since I was never a big fan of people comparing the two groups, but here we are.

How do you stay creative during a pandemic? For answers, we turned to four culture makers across the US—New York Nico, Kyle Ng, Joe Freshgoods, and Alex James — on how they meet the demands of staying productive in our new reality. We’ve equipped each of them with a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, a revolutionary smartphone that allows them to stay creative, whether doing everything in one place, or out on the go hunting for inspiration. Perfectly designed for the creative life, the Z Fold2 is three devices in one: folded closed like a regular smartphone, open flat like a tablet, or laid on a surface like a mini-laptop. It’s four machines, if you include its camera, with its impressive depth of field and hands-free shooting. Each of the culture makers we selected were tasked with taking photographs and screenshots that give us a glimpse of their creative process, what inspires them, and how to balance between work and play. The results we got back were surprisingly intimate, quirky, unexpectedly funny, and humane. Take a peek into their lives below.

INSTAGRAM
ACCOUNT.
Having grown up in Union Square and gone to school in the Village, he’s dedicated his project to capturing all the indispensable local characters who make up the quirky flavor of the ever-changing NYC. So when Covid hit the city, claiming the lives of tens of thousands and forcing countless others out of their homes, Nico immediately went to work to help save a part of the city that was vanishing before his eyes. Catapulting off of the viral success of his Instagram — which has 472k followers, attracting attention from the New York Times and celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Chloe Sevingy—Nico launched contests such as Best New York Mask, Best New York Photo, and Best New York T-Shirt, that raised nearly $300,000 for charities such as God's Love We Deliver, Color of Change, and The Campaign Against Hunger. Since the pandemic, Nico launched the #MomNPopDrop hashtag for quirky and iconic small businesses that were struggling to stay open. He started with Army & Navy Bag on Houston Street by going down to the store and taking a photo of its owner. Then for the next week or so, lines began forming outside his shop. “When I saw the response to that, I was like, holy shit. These posts are making a huge impact,” he said to Elle. For Highsnobiety, Nico photographed, as an extension of his practice, various scenes in the daily life of New York City: dog-walking in the streets, vendors, business owners. An ATV driven by a Chucky doll. All photos were shot on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, which was convenient enough to take with him for unexpected moments on the go that, with a clunkier machine, he would have missed just seconds later. And what moments these were — a testament to what keeps New York strong, the New York that he loves, which he believes will survive the pandemic.

(JUN — AUG 2020)DOWNTOWN NEW YORKDOWNTOWN NEW YORKKYLE NG IS A CONNOISSEUR OF THE T-SHIRT. “IT’S LIKE A BILLBOARD FOR WHO YOU ARE,” HE SAID IN SSENSE. HE’S THE FOUNDER OF BRAIN DEAD, A STREETWEAR BRAND RUN BY A LOS ANGELES-BASED CREATIVE COLLECTIVE OF ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS, WHO FEATURED IN OUR JULY EDITION OF
THE NEXT 20
.
“The best t-shirts are ones with an approach, a perspective, and a culture already around it,” he went on. Simultaneously, the t-shirt for Ng is a signal of individuality that defines itself as part of a collective and a cultural context. This year, when the Black Lives Matter protests began in Minneapolis and spread around the world, Ng had the idea of making none other than a t-shirt to both commemorate the moment, and raise money for the Movement for Black Lives. He contacted Dev Hynes of Blood Orange, and designed a shirt in two hours, putting it for sale the next day. It made $500,000. Ng did what he does best: putting the times in a graphic. Brain Dead is celebrated for immersing itself in the cultures of post-punk, skateboarding, and underground comics. Comfortable with collaborating, Ng has worked with brands such as The North Face, Levi’s, and even Shake Shack. Yet as international as his brand’s reach is, he is still attuned to LA at the local level. As a research practice, Brain Dead works with the people involved in a particular culture, which makes fashion and community organizing one and the same. With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G’s “flex mode,” Ng is able to toggle through multiple windows at once, in the smartphone’s tablet mode, and compare designs and photos. It’s a boon for his Covid-era productivity, where sales (perhaps unusually) have been up 120%. For Highsnobiety, Ng photographed himself and his collaborators with the Z Fold2 in and around his studio, where he recently worked on a series of t-shirts inspired by horror movies for Halloween. Other scenes are more quotidian: journeys looking for mushrooms at the market, his dog. Perhaps most iconic of the moment, one photograph shows his mail-in ballot with the “I Voted” sticker an image emblematic of the brand itself and some of its core values.
ALEX JAMES

DOWNTOWN NEW YORK
(JUN — AUG 2020)DOWNTOWN NEW YORKDOWNTOWN NEW YORK“ROCK ISN’T A TREND FOR ME NOR MY BRAND. I DON’T WEAR A SLAYER OR MOTÖRHEAD T-SHIRT BECAUSE I THINK THEY LOOK COOL, I WEAR THEM BECAUSE I’VE BEEN THRASHING TO THAT MUSIC IN MY BEDROOM LONG BEFORE THESE LAMES WERE AROUND,” SAYS ALEX JAMES, THE OWNER OF PLEASURES.
It’s a streetwear brand known for its DIY aesthetics drawn from music subcultures like metal and new wave, and has attracted the likes of The Weeknd, Kylie Jenner, A$AP Rocky, and Kim Jones. Growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey to working class parents, James came of age during the ‘80s and ‘90s, immersing himself in the music scene of New York that would hail this period the last of its kind, before the Internet and Giulani killed the underground. This was an era defined by Sonic Youth, CBGB’s, Chloe Sevigny in Kids. The last bastion of Gen-X culture. PLEASURES, which was launched in 2015, began as a way of making affordable clothing inspired by vintage band merch. Yet as laconic as he is about his design choices, James cares a lot about accessibility. “PLEASURES is an inclusive brand. We want to include everyone and not alienate our consumer,” he said in GOAT. This harkens back to his younger years spent rummaging through thrift stores and estate sales for clothes, and hanging out all day at record shops. Hence the touch of nostalgia in PLEASURES’ designs. The culture that it represents is of a recent past that might be seen as dead if people like James weren’t dedicated to preserving it. “Rock was around first and will be here forever,” he says. For Highsnobiety, James shot surprisingly intimate photos with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G of scenes from his home life. Some of the smartphone’s features, like its hands-free shooting (all you have to do is wave at the camera and it’ll take a picture) allows for users to appear in portraits with others in front of the camera, like James does with his child. Other shots show scenes from his home, like his intricately woven carpet, or a bouquet of flowers. It’s a reminder that some of the most inspiring scenes in daily life are those closest to you.
JOE FRESHGOODS

DOWNTOWN NEW YORK
(JUN — AUG 2020)DOWNTOWN NEW YORKDOWNTOWN NEW YORKIT WAS A BAD SITUATION THAT TURNED INTO A GOOD ONE. IN 2018, JOE FRESHGOODS — THE DESIGNER WHO CO-OWNS THE FAT TIGER WORKSHOP STORE IN CHICAGO—HAD A CONTRACT WITH ADIDAS TO RELEASE TWO SNEAKERS AND AN APPAREL COLLECTION, BUT THE DEAL FELL THROUGH LAST MINUTE.
The clothes were already made, so Freshgoods, who was able to retrieve the dead stock, went ahead and put it for sale for a 40 percent markdown at a drive-through fundraiser for public schools in Chicago. His hope was to raise money for the laptops, tablets, and headphones kids need for remote learning during quarantine. His dedication to Chicago runs deep. When Freshgoods drops a t-shirt at a pop-up in the city, lines stretch to over 90 minutes to cop them. It goes back to when he used to sell his own branded t-shirts secretly while he was working for the Chicago streetwear shop Leaders. People trust him because he’s committed to the city. Since the pandemic, he introduced Community Goods, a charitable brand that raises funds for small Black-owned businesses in Chicago and The Greater Chicago Food Depository. While working at Leaders, he met Chance The Rapper, whom he considers an old friend. In 2017, Chance went on to wear one of Freshgoods’ hoodies when accepting the award for Best Rap Performance. (It reads “Thank you.”) The exposure catapulted Freshgoods to a new national platform—raking in collaborations with McDonald’s, Nike, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Chicago Bears—yet he has stayed true to his Chicago roots. Shot entirely with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Freshgoods’ photos for Highsnobiety give us a look into his creative studio. The smartphone’s hands-free shooting also makes it even easier to take self-portraits, with having your arm awkwardly jutting to the corner of the picture. More shots show scenes from the Fat Tiger Workshop, and all its swag and splendor. It’s a space he co-owns with Terrell Jones and Desmond Owusu, and has been a stalwart in the local community. “We’re a community store,” he said in The Fader. “We’re like a barber shop.”
