#Orion pax arc

|| 🍍• Ayo, is it ever like addressed how Orion Pax just spontaneously rocks up to the spacebridge showdown to confront Megatron?
Like did he just go off and seize control of a terminal or something on the warship from some unwitting troopers with his newfound firepower…?
…or did Soundwave literally see him coming, open a Groundbridge, pop his popcorn bag in the microwave and get comfy?

Megatron: Oh no, Orion. Fiddles are actually difficult to play. I played you like the cheap kazoo you are.

Ok i’m digging the tfp optimus “came back wrong” trope more now bc it explains nicely the way optimus’ behavior changes when he gets juiced, rather than it just being poor writing
It's also very fun because we know that the matrix is very much not good at bringing him back right

Y'all hear me out for a sec 😳
what if 👀
An alternative way for the Orion Pax arc to play out....had Optimus revert to before the archivist days--like, when he was off eating dirt or whatever he did before studying at Iacon and "acclimating to society" as it was put.
Aka the era in which Orion was feral
(I am so sorry for typos, I wrote this on my phone)
Just,,,imagine that scene where Megatron's stalking forward, ready to kill him, drawing out his sword.
Rather than Optimus looking up and innocently asking where they are, he gains consciousness, takes one look at Megatron, growls.
And then just!!! bites his arm!!!
After all, he has no idea who this is! Or where he is or like...whatever.
Megatron yelps in shock and surprise, grimacing. He tries to shake him off but the bite is firm and Optimus will not let go!!! Megatron starts to panic because what is this??? this wasnt supposed to happen 🤨 What????
And then the autobots come by and (after Optimus is extracted from Megatron, who immediately jets out of there, swearing revenge or something) they guide their leader through the bridge to base. The rest of the time in this arc is everyone standing around watching Optimus and trying to figure out what to do. They take turns making sure he doesn't get hurt or anything.
Meanwhile Optimus goes around poking things or spending periods of time sitting in a corner, eerily quiet and watching everyone with a sharp, wide-eyed gaze. The kids start giving him headpats (because he reminds them of a dog in some ways) and he even purrs--or the Cybertronian equivalent, not knowing what they're saying or what these life forms are, but viewing them as friendly. He enjoys their company and lets them do as they wish with him.
Maybe once, Optimus disappears, seeming to have escaped Arcee who was supposed to watch him but went on patrol instead. So everyone flips out, goes searching all over. But then Raf follows a hunch he had and goes up to the roof. And indeed, he finds Optimus up on the top of the base, sitting motionlessly, absolutely mesmerized by the sunset and the stillness of nature. He'd probably just wandered out, the boy guesses, smiling to himself. Optimus doesn't end up going back inside until the sunset is over and the sky has fully darkened. Raf shares those moments too, both of them just watching the sun, wordless. When they both come downstairs, everyone is relieved, and they all decide to watch a movie together. Optimus falls asleep against the wall before the film is over.
Then at last, one thing leads to another, matrix of leadership is restored by Vector Sigma, and Optimus goes back to normal. No one speaks of it, Optimus doesn't quite remember it, only Miko has some saved photos to remind her sometime in the future. (And a drawing or two she made during some school classes 😋)
Like please I can't be the only one who finds this kinda funny but also interesting--

Which Megatron do you think would be the best mom? I'm leaning towards Earthspark. I'm sad to admit that I don't think my fav, tfp, would make a good mom. I feel like he'd either be very overbearing or extremely distant.
Hmmmm that's a good question. Earthspark Megatron definitely has the most in-youe-face canon evidence saying he'd be a good parent. He's already a (grand)parental figure to the terrans, and he's doing pretty good with him. He'd definitely be a doting carrier to his own newborn sparkling
However! Don't be too quick to write of Aligned Megatron. I genuinely think anyone can be a good parent if they're willing to work hard at it and recognize that their children are individual people with people needs. And Megatron, for all his flaws, doesn't do anything half-assed. He'd definitely be a very busy parent, seeing as he's got an entire army to command, but I don't think he'd be constantly distant and pushing them away. I mean, he made the choice to carry them to term and bring them into the world (assuming it wasn't a stealth pregnancy or smthn, which could be a very interesting topic to explore 🤔). He'd do his best for them, and while I do think he'd initially struggle to balance his time spent with them and his time spent lording over the decepticons, I think he'd find a rhythm that worked for them. He's too stubborn not to
In public he'd likely be a very cold parent, but behind closed doors he's able to more freely express the love he feels for them. TFP does a great job of making him seem just. Irredeemably evil all the time, someone that doesn't experience positive emotions, but that's simply not the case. He's every bit as capable of love and happiness as every other cybertronian. Just because we aren't shown that doesn't make it any less true. Think about it, every time Megatron is on screen, it's when he's in full warlord mode. Everyone else gets individual depth, scenes wherein they're more than just a soldier or medic. Like Knockout enjoying his racing hobbies, Starscream being an adept scientist, Bulkhead working with construction. Not Megatron. We only ever see him fighting and giving orders and having to be perfectly present in the war effort, but realistically that's not how he spends every waking hour of every single day. I do think, when he's alone with his sparkling, he could be tender with them, give them the affection and love and guidance they need to grow up healthy.
Would he be a perfect parent? No. Such a thing doesn't exist. But I don't think he'd be terrible or abusive, either.
EDIT BECAUSE I REALIZED I DIDNT ANSWER THE ACTUAL QUESTION 💀
I'm actually kinda leaning toward animated Megatron. While yes, earthspark Megatron is very nice, he's also still got a lot of issues he's working through, and I don't think him working with GHOST--of his own free will or not--would be very healthy for his child. I don't think, given he's constantly rounding up the "bad decepticons" he'd be an optimal role model. With the terrans, he's not their primary caregiver. People can make great babysitters but not great parents, yk? He's in an unstable place rn, constantly butting heads with Optimus, unhappy with his current position in life, and I don't think he's in a proper mental state to consistently be caring for a needy baby. Maybe after GHOST is dealt with and the imprisonment of decepticons stops, but not right now.
TFA Megatron, on the other hand, has his shit together. Though they live in exile he's still got a good handle on the decepticons, and they're surviving well. He's all not quite as prideful and stubborn as previous Megatron's--my favorite way that's demonstrated is with the Supremes at the end of season 3. When it's pointed out to him that he isn't actually the ideal candidate, that there could be disastrous infighting and they might not obey him, he doesn't get angry. That's a fair, accurate critique of his character, and he gracefully takes it in stride. He then pivots to someone else who's a better fit, prioritizing their success over his own hubris. Most other Megatron's would get mad and blow up and let it cloud their judgement, but not him. He's also demonstrated to be an incredibly patient person, able to play the long game and focus on the outcome even if the means aren't as quick as he'd like them to be. He knows when to draw back, he makes good choices, and he's generally a pretty calm person, all things considered. I actually think, if Sumdaac's bitch ass hadn't stolen his embryo and they had been allowed to develop and be born properly, he would be a pretty great mother

TFP will introduce the most interesting idea/implication you've heard all year and 5 seconds later it gets resolved in the most boring way possible and never gets brought up again and the one fanfiction about it that you're able to find is unfinished, last updated Oct 5th 2015, with awful grammar and none of the characters act like they do canonically, so you're just left to wonder what in the god damn fuck possessed the show runners to always pick the most boring plot points they could possibly come up with.

|| 🍍• I’m probably not the first to say it, but imma gonna say it anyway…
…we were robbed with the Orion Pax arc in Transformers: Prime.
The fact that the 3 episodes supposedly spanned over a time period of months, is crazy.
Did Megatron make a conscious effort to actually “catch-up” with Orion when he said there’d be “plenty of time” for it?
If they did, what did they talk about? Was it awkward and short? Was it lighthearted and whimsical? Did it bizarrely feel as though the war had never been? Did Megatron lose himself in the illusion of a former friend?
If they didn’t, did Orion attempt to pursue a catch-up with the former gladiator, himself?
Did Orion forget to call Megatron his name, instead uttering Megatronus? How did the tyrant react to this? Was he insulted? Did he not mind in the privacy of their off-shifts?
What had been Orion’s final memory?
Did Orion ever inquire about Alpha Trion?
What did Orion get up to on his off-shift hours aboard the warship?
Did he have his rations in the company of others, or did Orion eat alone? Did he eat with Megatron?
Did Orion ever ask to venture to the Earth’s surface to see its beauty up close? Did Megatron go with him if permitted and show him?
Did Orion, inquisitive as ever, inquire why everyone looked so different - why Soundwave appeared so thin, why he, himself, felt so heavy, why Megatron seemed so distant and cold and angry?
What were his other interactions with Knock Out like, if there were any? Did he and Breakdown steer clear of him like the others? Or did Breakdown’s un-Decepticon and odd consideration for others spread and extend itself to the timid clerk with ease? Would Knock Out follow suit given his coy interest in the mech Orion became, or because of his partner’s kinder spark? Did Knock Out ever offer Orion a cool new paint touch-up?
What had Megatron worried Starscream would do or say to Orion when the warlord said “he did not…do or say anything troubling to you?” …despite the obvious, obviously. Why was Megatron so determined to live a lie?
Did Soundwave privately raise his concerns of allowing the amnesiac Prime so close to Megatron again, to the Decepticon leader himself? How would Megatron have reacted to it?
Did any of the rest of the crew hint at their concerns of having an amnesiac Prime aboard?
What unfolded after Orion slipped away?
What were Megatron’s real intentions of having Orion on board if Soundwave was capable enough to do the same thing?
Did Megatron think Orion, if provided another chance, would still want to be beside him after everything he’d done? Is that why the mistruths he told were so elaborate that he ended up getting caught in them and when Orion stirred to see their error, Megatron resorted to violence knowing that he could not save his fantasy???
…you know…just a few thoughts really :)

so im doing a partial reread of mtmte at the moment and like why.
why was ravage nowhere to be found during the brainstorm timetravel arc. like why is he just not involved whatsoever. where even is he?? he's introduced in the previous arc with the split lost light, and then SIX issues go by without a single apperance or mention. you'd think brainstorm being revealed to be a decepticon spy literally directly after ravage is revealed to be on the lost light would like. mean something. no one thinks it's suspicious that the moment ravage appears, brainstorm kicks off his plan to "kill orion pax"? and even beyond that, this feels like something he should be a part of. brainstorm going back in time to stop the war from happening/allow the functionalist to win and ravage has like. zero commentary??
Tumblr media
this is the only panel we get of ravage for the entire arc, and then we get these three panels AFTER everyone returns to the original timeline.

Hey! Love ur stuff man! Whats ur thoughts on optiratch? :0
OMG HI HELLO!!! I love your art ack-
Anyways!! I personally don't have a TON of thoughts on optiratch??? I haven't watched a ton of tf media where both Optimus and Ratchet interact and have big chemistry, so i should probably(definitely) get on that.
As much as I hate to admit it i DO enjoy their vibes in tfp though. I think it's gay as hell to call someone 'old friend' and I see the longing in ratchet's gay little eyes when he looks at that man.
OH! AND!!! During the shadowplay arc in MTMTE?? with young ratchet and orion pax? I REALLY liked their chemistry there as well. I definitely am a MTMTE forward blog so this might just be me being annoying, but I definitely hc mtmte/idw ratty as getting around a lot. I think he and oppy definitely had their time together, very puppy love energy despite ratchet being an incredible surgeon and orion being a supercop.

TYSM FOR ASKING!!! I love your art so much so it was a crazy fuckin whiplash moment to catch you in my inbox haha! don't be a stranger! :D

What if TFP Megatron hadn't fumbled the bag during the Orion Pax arc...?
Like, imagine we get that scene where Orion is all "Why does this computer refer to me as Optimus Prime? Who... am I?" And instead of Megs being all "Grr, you're just my clerk, nothing more." He was... actually sort of honest?
Like obviously not 100% honest, let's be real here he's got his own agenda. But I'll bet Orion wouldn't have tried to delete his data if he had gotten an actually satisfying answer!!
For example what if it had been like:
Orion: I must know-- who... am I?
Megatron: ... *sigh* I'm not so sure I know the answer myself, Orion. This situation... it's complicated.
Orion: Then perhaps you might help me regain the memories I have lost? You explained what became of Cybertron, but I have yet to learn what has happened to me--
Megatron: -- It would have been too much! So many years lost, so much change to take in... I didn't want to overwhelm you!
Orion: I know, and I appreciate your consideration... however, these questions have been distracting me from my work...
Megatron: ... Very well. Come.
They settle down on some nook with a window. Orion's optics are glued to Megatron, while Megatron looks out said window for a beat before turning to face Orion.
Megatron: What do you remember, before I found you in those tunnels and brought you onto my ship?
Orion: I... *shifting uncomfortably* it's difficult to recall, but I believe my last memory was of us... fighting.
Megatron: Fighting?
Privately, Megatron is concerned Orion might be recalling a battle. He watches the other mech closely for his next words-- is the jig up already..?
Orion: Yes... we were arguing after the Council meeting, though I can't recall what for...
Megatron visibly relaxes a bit.
Megatron: Ah... that. Yes, I remember that day.
Orion: I had miscalculated, and my error upset you. We parted on bad terms.
Megatron: Oh, my dear Orion, that's long in the past! I hardly think back to our quarrel...
Megatron gently takes Orion's servo into his own, idly rubbing a thumb over his digits as if lost in a memory.
Megatron: Actually... your absence gave me clarity-- once I learned you were gone, I immediately realized that I missed you... regardless of what had transpired. And it hurt my spark to know we would never see each other again-- though, that turned out to not exactly be the case...
Orion is staring intensely now. He is afraid of the answer, but knows he must press on.
Orion: Megatron... what happened to me?
Megatron: After that Council meeting... you were taken.
Orion: Taken? By who??
Megatron stops rubbing Orion's servo, squeezing it instead.
Megatron: ... The Autobots, but I didn't know it at the time. I was informed you hadn't reported for work in a while. For a deca-cycle, in fact, which didn't seem like you. I tried to com, but was having no luck-- then Intel couldn't find evidence that you had even made it home after the meeting. Upon further investigation, we learned you were snatched off the street some time after we had parted ways. I knew then something bad had happened to you, but I didn't know who was responsible. Not until I saw you again... only it wasn't you--
Orion Pax: -- It was Optimus Prime.
Megatron: Yes.
Orion Pax: But... how? How could I be a Prime? I'm just an archivist-- was just an archivist... and why me?
Megatron: I'm sure you've noticed the change in your chassis. Well... we believe the Autobot warlord Ratchet used his vast medical knowledge to perform experiments on you, which allowed your body to carry the Matrix. As to why he chose you... I'm certain it was to derail our revolution efforts. It had been personal blow, seeing you change sides...
Orion: How could I abandon the cause? Did I not recognize you anymore?
Megatron: You recognized me, but you did not know me. When the Autobots declared war, Optimus Prime would charge in, always on the front line. I was one of the few fighters who could hold my own against him, and by far the best chance we had to get you to come back to your senses... but I could never reach you.
Orion removes his servo from Megatron's, instead balling it into a fist on his leg. He looks away as well to take in a steadying vent, then another... when he finds his voice again, it is soft-- but he needs to know...
Orion: ... Was it mnemosurgery?
Megatron responds equally as soft.
Megatron: For vorns, I thought that was the case. However we'd didn't find any evidence of it during your medical examination.
Orion's optics snap back to Megatron's.
Orion: Then how?! I--
Megatron: -- It seems your memory loss had something to do with the Matrix. We could test that theory, of course, but nothing would move forward without your consent, Orion. You understand?
Orion: Yes, thank you. I will consider it. And thank you again for taking the time to enlighten me. I am... sorry to have caused you all so much pain...
Megatron: Don't dwell on the darkness of the past when tomorrow promises a brighter future, my friend.
Orion: Mm... how can you be so sure? We are far from home, and the war rages on.
Megatron: Because I was able to finally reunite with someone I had thought to be lost forever. Anything seems possible to me now, even victory after all this time.
Orion blushes slightly as Megatron gets up to leave.
Megatron: I must go attend to my duties on the bridge. Would you like to join me for fuel in my quarters? Say, in the next few groons?
Orion: I would like that, very much.
As he watches Megatron depart, Orion privately wonders just what "victory" would look like, given their home has been destroyed. To what end do we fight? Perhaps I shall ask Megatron to elaborate on his vision of the future after our shifts...

My Favourite Reasons For Why the Great War Started
1. Revolutionary Justice in an Unequal Caste-System Society.
Tumblr media
I adore the IDW comics, it's the second Transformers media I consumed after the franchised Michael Bay films, and let me tell you – I was not expecting all these heavy explorations into bot psyche, romance, societal injustice, and redemption. Really, it seriously surprised me, I never expected to see actual canonical romance in the Transformers universe, it always struck me as the type of medium to focus on action first.
So – thank you, James Roberts and Alex Milne.
There's so many characters and arcs I could talk about – Cyclonus and Tailgate and Whirl; Chromedome and Rewind; poor poor Shockwave; whatever's going on with Prowl; Starscream, Bumblebee, and Windblade attempting to scrape Cybertron back together; that one time Rodimus and Megatron's charisma was so awe-inspiring, it made personality parasites explode – but I want to focus on how the Great War began in IDW.
It's the first media to suggest Megatron not as a power-hungry tyrant, but formerly as a member of Cybertron's suppressed working class forced to labour due to the alt-mode he was born with. Sick of and unwilling to accept the subjugation imposed upon him and fellow mechs like him, Megatron rises from miner to gladiator who eventually becomes powerful enough to seize power as a revolutionary and then ascends to the image of the all-mighty Lord Megatron that is synonymous with his name.
Optimus, on the other hand, had somewhat humble beginnings as a strict but fair and righteous police captain named Orion Pax struggling to provide justice in a society deeply embedded with corruption.
Although both Megatron and Optimus sought to revolutionise Cybertron into a world where all bots are equal and uninhibited from potential and free will by their alt-modes, they had very different ideologies and motivations on how and why to reach this goal. Megatron, especially, loses his way and path eventually, and continued his slaughter not for the means to an end, but because he began to crave the "pleasure" from the act.
Tumblr media
Optimus didn't escape unscathed from tragic ramifications either: the mantle of leadership as the war dragged on for thousands of millennia weighed heavily upon him, so much that his later psyche in the comics could be described as suicidal.
But whatever that infects these two old bots in the future, young Megatron and Optimus were, in some strange way, allies, out of mutual respect and acknowledgement of the other if nothing else.
Tumblr media
The war was initiated and continued by them, because they both believed in a better Cybertron, and millions of years later, thousands of atrocities after, unspeakable acts of war crimes, the Great War ended with both of them remembering what they were fighting for in the first place.
IDW's concept that Megatron was a gladiator turned revolutionary and Orion Pax became Optimus Prime who was inspired by Megatron's words made its way to the Transformers: Prime animated series, allowing this universe's rendition of the two titans to be voiced by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the legends themselves.
2. Lord Prime and Lord High Protector
Tumblr media
Whatever contentions (of the many) that may be had with Michael Bay's re-imagining of this iconic franchise; you've gotta admit: the designs were cool.
Bay gave us Megatron's ram-head helmet, the astonishing CGI transformations, and the adorable Bumblebee design that has since become a classic of the character.
And according to Chris McFeely's video on the Great War, apparently, Bay's Transformers is the first Transformers media to introduce the idea that Megatron and Optimus had personal pre-war relations, some intimate form of brotherhood and camaraderie, while other adaptations at this point only alluded to their connection as rival leaders who rose to power at roughly the same time.
Bay took it a step further; Megatron isn't simply an opportunistic warlord making a grab for power, he was once a legitimate ruler holding an equal throne besides Optimus.
Tumblr media
That's right, Bay crafted the title of Lord High Protector, a Cybertronian ruler of high status with authority over military affairs, ruling in tandem with the Lord Prime, Optimus, who was in charge of more civilian and spiritual duties.
It's interesting, this idea, because it implies far more depth to Optimus and Megatron's history, they must have been ruling together for quite some time before Megatron fastened his greedy claws on the All Spark.
I, for one, am curious in a series that explores how they ruled Cybertron together and how exactly this fracture came to be.
3. Megatron Dunks on a Dock Worker for the Fun of It
Tumblr media
The classics of the classics, the first Transformers show to place the universe on the map: the archetypal G1 cartoon series that featured wacky shenanigans such as battling dinosaurs on a remote island or Soundwave and his Cassettes dancing with teenagers at a local gymnasium party.
G1 followed a very traditional hero-vs-villain formula, inspired by the Cold War tension at the time of airing and writing; there was no personal connections or noble aspirations for an equal society – Megatron was simply a campy, formidable scoundrel who yearned for power and Optimus Prime was the honourable, paternal everyday hero who rose to be the leader of the force resisting him and his army (at this point, Prime wasn't even a title, it was just Optimus' last name!).
Optimus Prime still had a previous form of Orion Pax, a dock worker rather than a police officer or an archivist, and Megatron was once an admired figure of Orion's, whose parasocial adoration was disintegrated when Megatron blew up Orion's workplace, critically injuring him and girlfriend, Ariel (soon to be Elita-1), and de-activating best friend, Dion. From the ashes of destruction, reconstructed by Alpha Trion, Orion became the battle-masked, audial-finned, red and blue paragon of justice that shouldered the burden of command in the war against Megatron and his evil Deceptions.
