Best Peter
Tumblr media
Lovely art by @chaosgremlin95 (Angel) and @silly-lil-fool (Pen), ugly graphic by me. They look like game show contestants.
Angel belongs to @chaosgremlin95, being the Peter Pan in TNC and the Golden Arrows spinoff.
Pen belongs to @silly-lil-fool, being the Peter Pan in WNI.
*The word best here implies a common favourite, not that one is better than the other.
In the server, Vampeter, owned by @/yokaishinari came 3rd and Roswell owned by @/jayisabluebird came 4th out of the four nominees. I will not disclose Pen and Angels placings as not to sway public bias.
PROPAGANDA, feel free to submit ur own for either one.
Pen:
Honestly the first fan made Peter Pan to really make the rounds on Tumblr, he's an icon, synonymous with the Pandom. Our most famous, everyone else wanted to be Pen. He's the BLUEPRINT. Pen created something we should all aspire to become, a pioneer of Pans. Pen WNI is Influential, inspirational, iconic. Vote Pen 2k24 - @thecringefailintherye
Pen was my introduction to the fandom, He is the sweetest, silliest and absolute most freakish of little guys. I think my gravitation towards [a very pen-style character] comes from my need to keep Pen with me forever! - @chaosgremlin95
Angel:
-He has such flavor; the core personality traits of Peter Pan the same but shown in a different light! He is selfish in his weird attempts to be humble, he is cocky while constantly being put down and sad, 🤌🤌🤌
-his design is super creative and unique, giving him a distinct vibe from any other version
-is both a little guy and a wet meow meow at the same time
-has actual canon written/beautifully illustrated story to go along with the he!
-dramatic ahh nickname of the “Angel of Death” (from Hook no less) that’s just perfect for him
-*slaps the roof of him* this bad boy can fit so much tragedy inside of him
He deserves to win, he deserves some love
MY BOY DESERVES EVERYTHING!!!!! - all from @silly-lil-fool
i GOTTA GO WITH ANGEL!
The boy is probably the only Peter in history that learned his lesson BEFORE the story starts. Granted he's still a mess every day - @chaosgremlin95
Good luck, boys!!

[Book One of..]
Story: 5 out of 5 Smut: 2 out of 5
I honestly wanted this book so bad because everyone recommended it as a Peter Pan retelling. Imagine my surprise, however, when I read the author’s note, and she states it’s NOT a retelling. But I still read it because I wanted to read a story from the villain’s pov and oh my god am I glad I read it. I am in love with James/Hook and I don’t care that he’s a bad guy.
Wendy, daughter of Peter, starts off as the naive girl that Hook is looking to take advantage of because of what Peter has done to him in the past. But as her rose tinted glasses come off, she becomes the young woman who you will come to adore and root for. And James… well you’ll be up and down with his character. I knew he was the bad guy going in, but I wanted to throttle him at one point.
I guess you can say this is a reimagining of the Peter Pan characters in a modern world, but instead of rooting for Peter Pan, Wendy, and Tink… you’ll be begging Hook for a taste of the dark side.
I am stoked to see what else Emily has written for this series!
* So we start off with a murder. Nice. Seems James’s uncle deserved it.
* Oh shit. James saw Wendy through video feed and immediately wants to defile her. But it’s Wendy’s friend who is hoping for his attention 😬
* Ohhhh. He got her to to agree to a date 😏
* So that’s why he doesn’t like the ticking sound. Damn.
* Oh shit. James walked up to Wendy and Maria is PISSED.
* Lol Maria is such a bitch.
* Score. He secured the date.
* Goddamn. James has got a mouth on him.
* The way he has her grind on his lap… holy shit.
* I somewhat knew what I was getting into, but damn… I’m gonna be heartbroken when Wendy finds out James is using her.
* Wendy’s dad is a dick and Tina Belle a bitch. I can’t wait until James gets his hand on them.
* Lol Moira tried to make Wendy jealous and James wasn’t having it 😂
* Oh shit. Wendy gave him her virginity. There’s gonna be a lot of crying later, isn’t there?
* So the dad doesn’t care for his son and James has noticed that Jon (the brother) looks nothing like Wendy. Could he be the product of an affair?
* Why do I have a feeling something is gonna happen to Ru?
* Uh oh, James. You going soft for Wendy and her brother Jon.
* I fucking knew something was going to happen to Ru 😩 and now James thinks Wendy had a hand in it. Fuck! I can’t wait for him to murder her dad Michael. To murder Pan.
* Holy shit. Did he just kidnap her?! He has it all wrong!
* I can’t wait to see when he realizes he royally fucked up.
* Starkey, you’re a little traitorous motherfucker, aren’t you? I know it was you who was supposed to have Ru’s back. You’re too nervous.
* “Just remember, that whenever things feel bleak, all situations are temporary. It’s not your circumstance that determines your worth, it’s how you rise from the ashes after everything burns.”
* “Every good bitch needs a pretty collar.” — oh my god. I can’t wait for her to bitch slap you 😂
* FINALLY! She had no idea, you dumb shit. Now prepare to beg for forgiveness.
* Wow. Her dad was really gonna let her die. Fuck him.
* Shit. Peter burned down James’s club.
* Damn. James burned all Peter’s planes 😂
* wtf was that with Moira? And how the fuck did Wendy disappear?! I don’t trust Smee 🤔
* Oh so Smee just assumed she left when really she was just sitting on the dock. But still, James is pissed 😬
* She caved way too fast once his fingers got in her. Get it together, Wendy!
* Croc? As in his uncle? wtf! And of course there’s an explosion just as the woman’s name is about to be given.
* Fuck! Starkey is a traitor! It wasn’t an explosion. Starkey shot their hostage right before he spilled the beans. He’s protecting his boss!
* Damn. Wendy’s that good of a fuck that James is in love, huh 😂 Well.. I’m kind of glad she decided to stay. I don’t trust anyone else to have her back like James does.
* “For the record, I would give you the world. You simply have to ask. You want kids? Done. You want to stay here and never work again? Done. You want to watch the world burn?” // “Let me guess, you’ll set it on fire?” // “No, darling. I’ll hand you the match and stand at your back, watching you become Queen of the ashes.”
* Moira is a traitor?! I knew the bitch was sleezy, but this is… wow. I can’t wait for James to kill her.
* Fuck you, Tina! Ugh. These women are pissing me off 😂
* I fucking called it. Smee! You asshole. And cousins? Why are you being such a little bitch.
* So Peter saved James? And James has a brother?! wtf. Tina better fucking get some punishment for flipping out on Wendy.
* Oh shit. It’s Jon! And seriously, fucking Tina. Someone bitch slap her!
* THANK YOU!!
* Aww. They got their happily ever after 🥹

I can’t believe I forgot to announce it here but my second book is officially up for sale!
Book 1 of the Second Star Trilogy, “Finding the Lost Boys” is a dark twist on the Peter Pan story. When the magic of the island goes chaotic and boys start dying, Jim has to discover exactly what makes Nederland…well, Neverland. But it’s a journey that unlocks many secrets and memories long since forgotten.
Memories that make Jim question everything he ever knew and who he really is.

What is your favorite outdoor location?
There's this park in town that has really good hiking trails. We don't go as often as I'd like because it's so hot for most of the year, but we ate lunch out there today. As it cools off more, I'm hoping we can make a thing out of it.
August's monthly magnet features James and Peter from S.A. Chant's Peter Darling. I haven't read it, but it's on my tbr.

Book Blurb: A gorgeous literary feminist take on what happened to Wendy and Captain Hook after Neverland from the bestselling author of Wendy, Darling, perfect for fans of Christina Henry and V.E. Schwab. Exploring themes of grief, survivor's guilt and healing broken bonds, Hooked is a modern-day Peter Pan story, perfect for fans of retellings, Christina Henry and V.E. Schwab. Once invited, always welcome. Once invited, never free. Captain James Hook, the immortal pirate of Neverland, has died a thousand times. Drowned, stabbed by Peter Pan’s sword, eaten by the beast swimming below the depths, yet James was resurrected every time by one boy’s dark imagination. Until he found a door in the sky, an escape. And he took the chance no matter the cost. Now in London twenty-two years later, Peter Pan’s monster has found Captain Hook again, intent on revenge. But a chance encounter leads James to another survivor of Neverland. Wendy Darling, now a grown woman, is the only one who knows how dark a shadow Neverland casts, no matter how far you run. To vanquish Pan’s monster once and for all, Hook must play the villain one last time…
Review:
What happens after Neverland... especially for a captain who has suffered so much? The story follows the events of the previous book, Wendy,Darling, but more of an emphasis on the character of Captain Hook, also known as James. After the events of the previous book Wendy has made death possible in Neverland and killed Peter as well as rescue her daughter Jane. Years later Jane is now a medical student still reeling from the horrors she experienced in Neverland, especially the fact that her first real friend died in her arms there. When a mysterious monster is out killing people and leaving their shadows there... and Jane’s own roommate is murdered, Jane and Wendy feel like something more is going on, and when they run into James they realize that something escaped from Neverland with them. James is in England, having escaped Neverland, but he is being hunted by Peter Pan’s monster, and more people are being killed. They must come together and destroy the monster and more lives are lost... but this is no ordinary monster and the only way to properly deal with it, is to go back to Neverland once again and destroy it. In this book we get more of Jame’s backstory, of his experience and pain of being tortured and held captive by Peter Pan, we get to see him fall in love with a doctor and see the pain of loss and grief. This was another wonderful exploration of what happens to all these characters as they what actually happened to them in Neverland. This is a darker take and for older audiences, but definitely a wonderful read of fans of the classic story.
*Thank you Netgalley and  Titan Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Best Peter -> The Results

ANGEL (THE NEVERLAND CHRONICLES) & PEN (WILD NEVER ISLES)
So, that was crazy, for the longest time Angel was in the lead, and it seemed like he had this easily in the bag, but as quick as usual, Pen caught up and we got our first 50/50— on our first poll, no less.
And I get it, the boys are wonderful adaptations of Peter Pan and do so much with him. I love TNC, WNI, Dren, Puck, Angel, and Pen so much and these two Peters are just icons. It's a deserved tie, and I'm proud of these boys so much. Plus, I'm kinda stupid for not expecting my 2 favourite Peters and my 2 best friends' characters to be poll 1.
I couldn't be more pleased that these two both won, there couldn't be a better result.
Congratulations @chaosgremlin95 and @silly-lil-fool, I'm proud of your little guys!!!

Lost Boi by Sassafrass Lowrey
4/5 Stars
As a queer Peter Pan stan I am legally obligated to read all queer Peter Pan books (eventually). Here’s another one checked off the list, and that I’m happy I learned about.
Lost Boi is a queer, punk, leather retelling of Peter Pan. And I’m giving it 4 stars largely because it is just Not For Me. It reimagines the Lost Boys as a gang of homeless queer youths led by the iconic Pan. Narrated by Pan’s best boi Tootles, the story follows Wendi and Pan’s relationship from the moment Pan first sees her at an open mic night, through its ups and downs, until the inevitable goodbye, hitting all the beats of the original story.
While there is little explicit content, BDSM and leather culture is the backbone of this story, so I would not recommend it for people squicked by that. I would also advise content warnings for drug use, dubious consent, and questionable age differences. Lowrey’s Pan is coercive and dark, but not intentionally malicious.
That said, there is something painfully realistic about this imagining of the world. The Lost Bois ran away from unaccepting homes and were made to feel unwelcome at shelters. An all too common real world occurrence that leads to queer kids living in squats like this book’s Neverland and putting themselves in unsafe situations in order to feel like they belong. And perhaps because they feel like it's the only life available to them. The mermaids and pirates are likewise realistic depictions of different circles of queer society. Lowrey also did a great job of integrating the characters and events of Peter Pan into a real-world setting in a way that did not feel forced - thanks largely to use of slang.
So while Lost Boi is not for me, I know it is for someone, and I’m glad that it exists for them.

Review of Lost In The Never Woods
When I started reading Never Woods I thought it was going to be an action-fantasy book, and yes the book is action-fantasy, but it went another route that I didn't expect.
Let's give a brief summary of the book: Wendy Darling is a reserved and shy young woman who spends her time volunteering at a hospital. She only thinks about school and the hospital, her dream is to become a nurse to stay there. People feel pity for her personality, she used to be such a lively and happy person, just like her family. But after the disappearance of her and her brothers when they were children, she was never the same.
On the night of her 18th birthday, she did nothing special. She woke up, did house chores, went to the hospital, finished her shift, and went to her house through the woods where she was lost and found. Oh, and she ran over someone in the woods… IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. It was very dark, and no one goes to the woods after the Wendy incident. She goes to attend to the poor thing that she hit and when she sees him, she recognizes him. She has seen him before, she knows him, but her memory does not hold; he just sees her and whispers Wendy before fainting, Who is he? How does he know her? Will he be her answer to understand that he happened to her brothers and her?
This happens in the first chapter, maybe the second, and from there it doesn't stop being an exciting book. It maintains a steady pace of intrigue and suspense about what will happen to Wendy, the stranger she ran over, and other mysteries that haunt the town. I think Aiden Thomas grew a lot in his writing skills; If his first novel, Cemetery Boys, was for me a success in style, rhythm and character development, here it is simply a home-run. The characters are well-built, it has an attractive mystery with a very good resolution, and the dynamics between the characters are interesting and complex. I felt the end was a little quick, but it closed the book well and the conclusion it gives to the mysteries, I couldn't stand it. It shocked me.
I loved all the characters, and loved all the fairy tale retellings, but Peter Pan, ufff. They have a reserved place in my heart.
Lost In The Never Woods is a story of intrigue, action, fantasy, romance, and suspense. If you're chicken like me, maybe it's scary because the main villain in this story is intimidating. I'm going to give him 5 stars, it gave me what I wanted and more. Aiden Thomas is becoming one of my favorite authors.
Have you read Lost In The Neverwoods? Do you plan to read it? What other texts do you know of Aiden Thomas? Do you like suspense stories?

Peter Darling by Austin Chant
A queer, transgender retelling of Peter Pan in which Pan returns to Neverland after a decade in the real world. The Lost Boys say that Peter Pan went back to England because of Wendy Darling, but Wendy is just an old life he left behind. Neverland is his real home. So when Peter returns to it after ten years in the real world, he's surprised to find a Neverland that no longer seems to need him. The only person who truly missed Peter is Captain James Hook, who is delighted to have his old rival back. But when a new war ignites between the Lost Boys and Hook's pirates, the ensuing bloodshed becomes all too real - and Peter's rivalry with Hook starts to blur into something far more complicated, sensual, and deadly.
I was really obsessed with the idea of Peter Pan as a kid. I don’t know if it was the idea of having magic or living with a found family or the idea of never growing up, but something about him captivated me. When I watched Return to Neverland, I knew that I wanted to be like Jane. She had the shortest hair I had seen on a girl my age and she, despite her gender, became a lost boy (or for her, I suppose, the first lost girl). There was something about her that excited me and I didn’t know why. Flash forward a number of years and, to no one’s surprise, I’m transgender.
I saw this book on my e library and was instantly drawn to it. The idea of Peter pan being trans hadn’t occurred to me but now I can think of him any other way. Beyond it just linking two things that are important to me, Peter being trans makes a lot of sense for the story. He is living in this utopia where he gets to act however he wants, free of parents and society and expectation beyond having fun. He wishes that he had a mother that wanted to care for him and he surrounds himself with boys who are otherwise outcasts from the real world.
Peter’s being trans isn’t the central part of this story, but it adds layers to it that create a really cool tension between this retelling and the original story. I really like the way it was woven in and the fact that it warped the story in the way it did, having Wendy being the version of him his parents wanted.
At the beginning, I didn’t quite know where the story was headed, but that was on me for not reading the description beyond  A queer, transgender retelling of Peter Pan. I think it took a little bit for the plot to shake itself out and become clear, but once it did, I was along for the ride.
I really appreciated how the ending was handled. It felt purposeful how Peter’s transness was barely brought up and that Hook never once commented on it.
Was this the most healthy relationship to ever exist? No, but I didn’t expect that as the dedication said something like ‘for everyone who’s ever seen themself as a villain’.
Overall, a really interesting take on Peter Pan and I loved the way they delved into the magic of the island and how it sort of worked. I also really liked the descriptions of the fairies as insect-like, despite not at all being a fan of bugs. It really went well with the tone of the text. I wish we could have seen a tiny bit more about their inner thoughts in the wrap up at the end, especially them looking back at their time in Neverland.
I recommend this to anyone who wants a darker retelling of Peter Pan or to anyone who longs for the stories they grew up with to include trans characters.
