Welp, time to explain my theoretical Miles×Gwen×Mikey crackship AU to literally everyone that didn't ask, yayyyy!

So, how did we end up here?

Well, it all starts off like the canon of the Into the Spiderverse movies. Miles meets Gwen, falls in love with her, becomes Spiderman, defeats Kingpin and she goes home into her own universe, seperating Miles and her for the time bring, yet Miles still remains pining after her. All very canon-adherent.

Now, here's the point where stories diverge because a few months after the events of the first Spiderverse movie, Miles meets Mikey while the turtle mutant is spray painting. They get along well, due to similar personalities and goals in life. Both of them want to prove how capable and mature they are to others and aren't particularly fond of being dismissed as a kid.

A friendship blossoms and with some time, both of them develope crushes on each other.

Now, Miles has to decide whether or not he wants to pursue Mikey or keep on hoping that somehow, Gwen will one day return so that they could be together.

He chooses Mikey. It's the reasonable thing to do, right? Miles doesn't even know if he'll ever see Gwen again, they're dimensions apart.

And for a while, everything is perfect as it is. Miles and Mikey get fake-married (it was an accident, loooong story), they go on patrol dates together, they comfort each other when things are rough. They're as happy as you can be when you're a teen vigilante carrying the world on your shoulders.

Then, the events of the second Spiderverse movie happen.

One random day, Gwen drops out of Miles' ceiling and hugs him. Miles is happy to see her again,even if infinitely confused. His feelings are going wild and he doesn't know if he still has feelings for her. (Spoiler alert: he has, but he would never betray Mikey over it.)

As in Spiderverse canon, Gwen and Miles swing across the city, catching up with each other, only for a weird, fast, green blur to crash into Miles without warning.

Gwen thinks it's an enemy, but no, it's just Mikey, Miles' boyfriend.

Miles can see in her eyes that she's heartbroken, but Gwen puts on a friendly façade and behaves kindly towards Mikey. Mikey does the same.

When Rio catches the three of them on the rooftop, Mikey hides from her and seeing Gwen and Miles next to each other, Rio assumes Gwen is Miles' crush. Gwen leaves quickly.

Miles and Mikey follow her, across dimensions, because Miles is worried he'd never see her again and Mikey is a supportive boyfriend.

Everything in the movie happens the same way, excluding some minor changes. Mikey gets a death prophecy from Miguel, too, Mikey kicks ass during the Mumbattan disaster and the Spiderman chase and at the end of the movie, Mikey and Miles strand in the 42 dimension while Gwen assembles a rescue team for them.

We skip to the ending of Beyond the Spiderverse.

Gwen apologizes to Miles for betraying him.

Surprisingly enough, Mikey forgives her first and urges Miles to do the same (he saw the good in fricking Draxum who didn't make any effort to redeem himself, he forgave Gwen the moment she came to their aid).

After that, the three of them hang out often. Gwen and Mikey get along suprisingly well, bonding over their mutual death prophecies and having dads who tried, but fucked up in some parts regardless (though Splinter would have never held a gun to his sons' heads)

Miles and Gwen know of their mutual feelings for each other, but choose to not act on it because Miles is in a happy relationship with Mikey.

And they probably would have remained in this weird limbo if it not were for Pavitr and Hobie, the wingmen ever, who suggested to solve the problem with polyamory.

Surprise, surprise, it works! Everyone is happy, yayyy!

Now, here are my art bribes and some headcanons to sweeten my pitch for this ship.

-Mikey and Gwen practice ballet together as seen in the pic above.

-Miles is periodically swallowed in hugs because he has not one, but two clingy ass-fuck partners.

-When Mikey first visits Gwen's dimension, he lights up her whole world in orange and gold because mystics.

-Miles and Gwen take turns on the singular braincell in the polycule, Mikey is just vibing (causing chaos and being a delightful little weirdo).

-The three of them always gift each other sunflowers for birthdays and valentine's (it's an insider between them).

-They're a sun×star×moon relationship with Mikey being the sun, Miles being the star and Gwen being the moon.

-Terrible puns. All of them make them to crack each other up. They're not even funny oftentimes, but to them? Comedy gold. Villains are extremely annoyed with them.

-Throuple patrols every week. It's their form of casual dates.

So I posted this giftset a while ago and I have always held this idea and headcanon that this convo could be read as Tod’s dad catching him and Alex hooking up and then keeping them apart because he is a homophobe, the pair try to make plans when things calm down again. Thinking more about this I thought, wait. Wait. Them, but also, why not someone else? The idea of a polyam ship was born, the reader in this is Tod’s beard/cover to get his dad off his back. So! Tod and Alex became friends in the third grade. They were those kinda of friends that were kind of insufferably inseparable for a long time. You would see one without the other on the rare occasion and it would create a visceral reaction of just feeling wrong, causing whomever to jokingly ask, “Where’s your other half?”

So when the shift happened between them, from friends to more than that, it just made way too much sense but still, the times are the times and the town is small and they are sure that it wouldn’t be a good look to be caught. So they had to keep it a secret, it wouldn’t always have to be, but for now it did, it was hard, brought its own challenges, especially when Tod’s dad started to get suspicious of how much time they spent together while he was seemingly not dating anyone.

“I’m just focusing on my studies.” Was Tod’s excuse and his dad would fire back with, “Your grades aren’t good enough for me to buy that.”

Tod was never a great liar. “Besides that, you’re young, school isn’t everything, go on a few dates, it won’t kill you.”

And thus a new problem was created that needed to be solved, quickly. If Tod’s dad keeps sniffing around there is a good chance that he might discover what has really been going on and neither Tod, nor Alex, wanted to deal with that fallout or that mess.

You knew the pair of them and had for a while, not as long as they had known each other, obviously, but still a long while. You found out their little secret without meaning to, stumbled upon them when they hadn’t been expecting it, finding them in a rather compromising position, they of course freaked out, begged you not to tell and you told them that you would never dream of it. Their nerves weren’t so easily forgotten and you understood, you weren’t hurt by it, you know that they trusted you but still if this got out it could be life ending, so, you made sure to be extra considerate, especially since you totally got their position. You admitted that you were very much not straight yourself, and explained your attraction to multiple genders.

The shock painted their faces and Tod spoke up first. “You…You didn’t have to tell us that.”

You shrugged with a relaxed expression, “I know I didn’t. But I wanted to, honestly I had been wanting to for a while and this seemed like a twofer, get that info out and put you both at ease.”

The duo shared a look and Alex said, “I think you are way too cool to be hanging out with us.”

You scoffed and rolled your eyes, “As if. I’m still totally lame, I just like dick and pussy.”

“See even the way you say it, so unbothered! How is that not cool?” Tod asked and you rolled your eyes, “I don’t really give a fuck about what’s cool.”

“And that right there is what cool is.” Alex asserted and you laughed with a raise of your hands. “Okay, so I’m cool, sue me.”

Later on Tod shared his predicament with his father, how he was suspicious and on his back about not dating and after expressing that you were sorry his dad was such an invasive dick and listening to him some more, the talk turned to other things. That night while in bed, thinking over Tod and Alex’s situation the idea struck you like lightning and the next day you told them all about it.

“Date me.” You say easily as you sit down across from them at the coffee shop you all met up at before class. Alex almost choked on his three cream and two sugar coffee and Tod asked with a very confused expression, brows so high they almost disappeared into his hair, “What?”

“I said, date me.” You say again, as if they were stupid for not grasping what you were driving at immediately. “I say again, what?” Tod asked and you expound. “If you date me, then your dad will get off your back!”

“But I’m with-” Tod looked around, not wanting to even whisper it out loud in public, once convinced no one was actively listening, his eyes shifted over to Alex with a hum that pitched up and down, as if to make the sound of Alex’s name without actually saying it.

“I know that! So we would just pretend to date, for like appearances! Then no one would ever suspect anything is off, I can be your cover, and then you dad won’t even think twice about any time you spend with Alex.” You say confidently.

The two are stunned. They had never thought of this but it would make everything easier. A nervous look is passed between them. “And you’d be okay with that?”

“Of course I would be or I wouldn’t offer! We hang out all the time already, it makes too much sense and I’d be more than happy to help keep your old man off your case.”

“Can we have some time to talk it over?” Alex asked and you told them, “Of course, no rush and if you decide not to, we can come up with another plan, alright?”

“Okay yeah this definitely decides it, you are way too fucking cool for us.” Tod sighed and Alex got up, “I’m buying your coffee, come up and order.”

You knew he wouldn’t take no for an answer so you got up and let him treat you to your favourite drink and a baked good.

It took three days for them to get back to you but they do and they tell you that they super appreciated it and wanted to go through with it. “Amazing! This is gonna make your life so much easier, I’m so happy you are down to let me help you out.”

You talked it through and it was decided, the first part of it was easy enough, Tod getting ready to go out and upon leaving his dad asked where he was going and with a shy kind of grin Tod said, “A date.”

“Really?” His dad seemed impressed and Tod said, “Yeah really, I took your advice to heart, no reason not to, right? I should be out having fun.”

His dad was pleased and none the wiser. Tod was able to go out to Alex’s place and fully relax, the next day he thanked you but soon, the claims of dates weren’t enough.

His dad wanted to meet you, Tod had been giving him small amounts of info but now that led to him needing to take this further. So he brought you by for dinner and introduced you to his family. You played the part of girlfriend perfectly, his parents seemed totally taken with you, his brother liked you and Tod was especially grateful. After dinner was done he was taking you home, “You are too good!”

“C’mon, are you really that shocked? You saw me in the spring play.” You teased and he said, “Yeah I did but this was on another level, you were a revelation, I am pretty sure my dad is like in love with you, and my mom can be kinda stand off-ish but you won em over so quick.”

“I’m just that good.” You sigh with a smile and Tod said, “I mean it, I cannot thank you enough.”

“Least I can do for one of my best friends.” You tell him and you reach out, take his hand he lets you, it is a moment of casual friendly affection but the action of it makes Tod’s heart beat a hair harder in a way he hadn’t anticipated but he pushed it down, writing it off as nothing.

Now that the folks had met you, the illusion had to be upped, you had to come by more and keep up the act and you did so easily. A lot of the time Alex was there too, you providing the aforementioned cover, allowing them to have the closeness they craved without the headache.

As this arrangement drags on however, there are small moments of escalation out of necessity. Unintentional but they are there all the same. Once Tod’s dad is watching you and him say good-bye, so, naturally, you have to play the part and you kiss Tod, other times his dad comes in while you are watching tv and it’d be weird for you to not have his arm around your shoulder, and other little things like this keep happening. The times of easy physical affection and casual intimacy continue, almost in anticipation of an audience, a precaution, a “just in case” but this makes you all realise that, fuck, this feels right?

There isn’t weirdness or jealousy, the dates being the three of you feels natural and correct. You started doing what you did with Tod but with Alex too, it started as a big joke, Alex acted like he was upset and offended one afternoon after you kissed Tod good-bye out of habit. Your response? You put your hands on either side of Alex’s face and dragged him in and kissed him to shut him up. It worked and you skipped off to head home and then it never kind of stopped, just everything you did with Tod, you did with Alex too, like you were expanding and extending the joke but also wanted him to feel included.

A distinct fact you were completely oblivious to, was that Alex and Tod were not completely gay or that all this closeness, extra time spent together, and fake dating had given them both a pants busting crush on you. They wondered what this meant, how to navigate this, if there was anything to be done?

Tod was always better about saying stuff straight and not being afraid to broach difficult topics with a shocking amount of candour. He initiates the conversation, “So what are we going to do about her?”

“What do you mean?” Alex asked with a sideways glance to his boyfriend, “I mean the fact that we are both clearly falling for her.”

“Falling for-?” Alex slammed his magazine closed, but by virtue of it being a magazine, slamming it isn’t really effective in the way slamming a book is, it is comical. Tod stiffles his laugh upon seeing the harsh expression Alex takes on, moving quickly, he is sitting side saddle on the couch, one hand on the back of it, the other on his own knee he insists, “Why do you think I, you, uhm, fuck, we are falling for her?”

“Because we are? Like c’mon man I’m not fucking stupid here.” Tod says around a breathless laugh with a shake of his head, Alex jumps to defend himself, “I didn’t say you were!”

“You didn’t say, but you implied plenty.” Tod fires back and before Alex can do much more than pout he says, "I see it Alex. I know you better than anybody and I pay attention. I see it in how you look at her, how you joke around with her, touch her in less and less casual ways. You fuckin' light up when she does that 'joke' and kisses you good-bye like you are her pretend boyfriend too. And I can tell you something else too."

"What's that?" Alex asked, his body language was tense, nervous, extremely on edge.

“I want that too. You aren’t alone. I have been thinking it too and I think I’ve been thinkin’ it even longer than you.” Tod admits and Alex asks, “Seriously?”

“Yes! I don’t think I want her to just be my pretend girlfriend. I think…I think I want her to be my actual girlfriend and I think you want that too.” Tod said firmly and Alex asked, “But what about us?”

“What about us? Why does ‘us’ have to stop? Why can't it be us and her all like-” His fingers tangle together in front of his stomach as he finishes his thought, eyes dropping down, “-together?”

The silence hangs heavy and Alex breaks it. “That’s an…That’s an option?”

“Why can’t it be?” Tod said with a shrug, Alex looks at him. Tod looks back, hand reaches out and takes his.

“What if she doesn’t want us?” Alex asks quietly and his best friend responds, “You think she is that good an actor?”

Alex quietly repeats that joke you like to tell, “Well you saw her in the spring play-” The half smile on his face is very endearing, Tod returns it with a fond roll of his eyes, “Yeah she’s a great actor but not that great. We can’t BOTH be imagining what is going on here man, no way. There is something here and I think it is worth talkin’ to her about.”

“So we know?” Alex offered up and Tod nodded, “Yeah, exactly, no wondering, then we will know.”

“And you aren’t jealous?” Tod responds quickly, “Nope. Are you?”

“God no. Seeing you with her ‘dating’ makes me…Happy. Seeing how you are with her makes me happy.”

“Same here.” Tod confirmed.

Alex sighed heavily, throwing his hands up, “Okay!”

“You mean it?” Came the excited reply and the blonde admits, “Yeah, what do we have to lose?”

They didn’t do it right away. They took some time and thought about if this is what they really wanted. While agreed upon, they hadn’t picked a time they were going to really talk to you about it seriously. It just kind of happens. One afternoon, at Alex’s for once, away from the prying eyes of Tod’s dad, you were all hanging out. You were supposed to be doing some studying, finals were coming up, but instead you said you couldn’t study without a snack so you convinced them to bake cookies before you all hit the books.

The radio was on, you were creaming together butter and sugar, Tod was holding the bowl as you mixed, something that was unnecessary but it gave him the excuse to be closer to you as you both badly sang along to the music while Alex watched.

He didn’t want to keep pretending. One song finished, some ad came on and he spoke up, cleared his throat, said your name and grabbed your attention. You looked over to him and with that big smile you asked, “Yeah?”

“We…We have something we were thinking about talking to you about.” Alex met Tod’s gaze. Tod was behind you and his eyes went wide, immediately picking up what he were planning. “Oh sure, shoot.”

Alex nods nervously and continues, “We’ve really loved all the time we have been spending together.”

You jumped in, saying happily as you agreed, “Me too! Who knew being a beard and fake dating could be so fucking fun?”

They both shared another look and Tod cut in after a forced cough, “About that…While it’s been great. But what if the dating we are doing isn’t quite so…Fake?”

You stopped mixing, you turned and looked up at Tod and then to Alex, “What are you saying?”

Tod sighs, hand rubbing over the back of his neck, “We want to date you for real.”

Alex chimes in, “Both of us.”

To say you are stunned is an understatement. You stutter out, “But…What…What about you?”

“What about us?” Alex asked and you clarified, “What about your relationship?”

Alex says carefully and slowly, “Yeah about that, we would wanna stay together but just be together with you. Just…All of us dating-”

Tod finishes the thought, “-Together.”

You drop the whisk and say, “Holy shit thank fucking God.”

“What?” The pair ask in unison and you spill your guts, “I have been falling for you both so fucking hard for a while! I have been trying to keep it on the down low because you are both together and I thought you were both totally gay and I knew you were relying on me to be your cover and just, I cannot believe that you’ve both been wanting me too-”

Alex cuts in, stepping closer, “Wait, wait, shit, you have been pining after us too?”

“Yes! That is exactly what I am saying!” You exclaimed and Tod laughs, “How fucking clueless are we?”

“Sooo…Are we seriously going to try this?” You asked and Alex said with a point, “I mean..We’ve already been dating technically, haven’t we?”

“Yeah, Alex is right.” You suppose he was. Just placing this label on it and being open and honest with your feelings would be the only real change. You were already outwardly and publicly dating Tod. You would have to hide the fact you were dating Alex but Tod and him were already having to hide that themselves. This was fine, more than worth it, once outta this small town you are sure you will all be able to be open and live how you want more publicly. Perhaps for now this would be okay, some secrets are fun to keep.

“What is our first for real date going to be?” You asked and Alex said, “Can’t this be it?”

“Oh wow, real romantic. A study date? C’mon man, put some effort in.” Tod jokes and Alex scoffs, “You plan a date then!”

As they playfully argue and you resume work on the cookie dough you think that this is all going to work out just fine.

do u think theres actually gonna be a sequel for carmen sandiego or r they just teasing due to the popularity of summer of sandiego

also i wish there was a miniseries with like 3 episodes of like the main ships (carulia/red crackle/carmivy) like idk i feel like that way all fans wud be happy LMAO but broo them not showing carmens mommy reuniting w her made me want to hit my head on the wall

like did her mom accept her and recognize her at first? did her mom slowly accept her and treated her like a stranger for the first weeks before warming up to here?? did her mom not accept her as her daughter due to the trauma of what happened that night?? like i need answers before i go boom.

The only thing said about a potential spinoff or sequel is that it was in the “earliest stages” back in september 2021. We’ve had basically zero update since then, and in addition they said the same about a live action carmen sandiego in 2017, and reiterated that again in 2021.

Summer of Sandiego and similar events being popular does have the ability to affect whether or not a TV show gets more content or not, although it doesnt have as much power as ratings/watch time do.

I think something that might point in favor of CS getting more content is the fact that the CS social media accounts have not gone dormant. Most social media accounts for movies and TV stop posting entirely after some amount of time, but its been years and CS socials are still active. Plus, some time ago they launched a merch store, which signifies that executives still think CS could be worth investing in (although it would be more profitable if they sold actually good looking merch).

All this to say, I have no idea what the fate of future carmen content is, but it doesnt mean we cant hope.

as for your shipping miniseries, I wouldnt want that for many reasons, the a big one being that i think rather than satisfy shippers, it would just make most of them fight with each other more than they already do. because nobody realizes that polyamory solves all your problems. sobs. and besides, theres always fanfic

I actually dont really feel the need to know who carmen’s mom is. While I have issues with how the show ended in regards to NOT elaborating on Carmen’s found family life after she was saved from VILE, I do agree that getting to know her mother is a story Carmen should undergo alone, at least to start. And from an audience’s perspective, why do we need to see her mother? She isnt going to have a face we recognize. And the show didn’t have the time to allow us to get to know her or care about her. All it wouldve been is a few seconds longer to see the hug we already know happened, and then jump cut 2 years ahead anyway. I think in regards to Carmen’s mother, they left it in a good spot that allows for further exploration in fanfic or the mystery spinoff.

miw/neo/shin for the ship ask ?

Well obviously you can guess that I love them, I haven't been subtle about it (also thank you for diving in the tag and providing me with good gifsets u.u) I love them individually - though Miw's the best and the guys are both sometimes irritating in their own way, you can't change my mind - and I love them as a trio, but I also love how they (still as a trio) interract with other characters in universe and narratively, and I love every single side of their triangle, though again : Miw & Shin have such a fun and surprisingly meaty dynamic, it's definitely my favourite out of the three.

On that subject, it is really nice to see a polyamorous triad that isn't a perfect triangle but where the non-romantic side is given (roughly) as much weight as the romantic ones. Neo isn't here when Miw and Shin meet, and something sparks without him. There's this shift, in their first bedroom scene, where Miw is bringing forth this cute and nice persona but respond to Shin's attempt at sincerity by deciding that putting her more abrasive self forward is a risk worth taking, and it's pretty pivotal ? After that Shin trusts her even when it's... pretty obvious she's lying, and she reciprocate by simply wanting to spend time with him without expecting anything from him. Like, their friendship started before The Clusterfuck, it could have blossomed on it's own, and it is important from that point on (Shin #1 Miw defender).

That being said, I also enjoy having a f/m/m polycule where the woman isn't the arrow's head. I feel like the very few stories who depict this kind of situations tend to rely on the men being bro but desiring the same woman in a weird attempt to, idk, retain some heterosexuality ? Not that it works. But here it feels like they went out of their way to avoid that, and I am here for it. Everyone gets their turn in the middle, but Neo is the clear linchpin of the throuple. Remove him and they fall appart, because of their respective insecurities. "It's time for this movie to end", say Miw, because why would she saddle the rich boy with her trashy mess ? and Shin doesn't object because why would he bother this cool girl that his crush loves more than him ? The three of them are stupidly self-sacrificial in different ways. But yeah, it's Neo's belief that when it comes to love they are allowed to have it all that keeps them together and it's just sweet.

Speaking of insecurities, I appreciate that it does actually take more than them fucking once for their relationship to be all smooth sailing, and that most of their hangs-up are pretty realistic results of, uh, living in our world. Like, Miw & Neo's poverty and their complicated relationship re: sex-work that they keep throwing in each other's face (Neo straight up calling Miw a whore, Miw arguing that Neo's a bad romantic prospect because he's poor and vulgar and uneducated) ? And you cannot convince me that Shin's conviction that he's just not as important to them as they are to him is partly from experiencing homophobia and seeing himself as the gay option vs Miw/Neo as the normal path anyone would want to take. I mean obviously gangster dad is the biggest obstacle in their path but I like that they also face internal ones. I'm often frustrated by the way polyamory is sometimes presented as the solution to love triangles (especially in fandom spaces) because imo, the neat narrative thing an OT3 does isn't that it solves the problem, but that it creates different ones. The show does it beautifully.

On a more, idk, bird-eyed view perspective ? I greatly enjoy just watching them blaze accross Thailand ruining lives without meaning to. The Mae/Phon/Ter mirrorverse doomed trio, Neo's boss, that guy Oat, the hotel manager and her family, Neo's brother, Luang I guess, even arguably Vanika... never has a polycule been such an ill-omen. Incredible Natural Disaster Energy. Three will be free and yes that is a threat.

UGH there was something else I wanted to talk about but I forgot what it was, I didn't expect this to get this long and also I'm sick and my brain isn't working super well right now. Anyway : never forget Neo fucked the step-son right after the step-mom. Or that time when Miw flirted with Neo's brother, while Neo watched them with jealousy, while Shin watched HIM with jealousy. SHIPPING AMIRITE in which I glue several headcanons together on a hivemind of its own (and I'm incredibly consistent, somehow?)

Disclaimer 1: this is all headcanons I made up in my head with my own severely mentally ill brain, so take it as seriously as you want (or not, it's not my problem)

Disclaimer 2a: "but you could solve everything with polyamory!!11!" I know I know BUT this IS about the drama and the pain and the heartbreak dude

Disclaimer 2b: I won't get into other Ryoga ships here so pretend it's just Yuma. I don't feel like branching this out too much, but my other OTP of his is with IV

Disclaimer 3: this might read a little like fanfiction but everything is not set on stone and is ever changing so.. REMOVE THY BRAIN WHOM SHALL READ TIS

soooo let me preface with

[Astral X Yuma] KEYSHIPPING

that was the first and main OTP of mine for this show for the longest freaking time. It just works and it's canon, what's there to argue about, right?

Yuma is a magnet. Everyone likes him (but not Ryoga, at least at first) and that was no different for III, they hit right off

[III X Yuma] AZTECSHIPPING

III knows how much Yuma loves Astral and he had no intention of getting in their way (even though he also knew that, ultimately Astral would complete his mission and leave Yuma regardless), he would fight besides Yuma and be his "sword", he would protect and tutor him. In short: he would do anything for him

not surprisingly, these feelings shift into something different and..... love ensues! Which was! Really bad! Because III would never put Yuma in a position where he would need to choose between him or Astral, III would just concede

in one of the many scenarios I imagined for these 2, after Astral left, III was the one to tend for Yuma's wounds and, when the prospect of Astral's return became a real "threat", III saw himself forced to "confess" (by stealing a kiss), he backpedals badly, understandably. That friendship was more important than his own feelings and he would fight to maintain it until he caved in and let his love in the open

that wasn't all bad though... but he didn't know yet, of course

Yuma is shaken

[Astral X Yuma] KEYSHIPPING

he could never stop loving Astral. That makes sense, they're two halves of one whole, soulmates. They're supposed to exist as one and together. Forever

except that.. never really happened. Astral came to him, they met, they stayed together for as long as they had to, then Astral left - not because he wanted to but because he had to

in one of the many scenarios I imagined for these 2, Astral manages to come back and "whole" (meaning he got a body of his own. A real body made out of flesh and bones)

Yuma is shaken again

[III X Yuma] AZTECSHIPPING

just when he finally started accepting Astral as someone he's not meant to be with, even though they're soulmates, Yuma is flooded with all these emotions upon Astral's return

but there's something else..

because of what III did, the kiss, everything, Yuma was uncertain of his own feelings. Perhaps that woken something in him, perhaps it just helped him see what was buried deep inside, either way he was torn because he imagined how hurt III would be, considering everything

he loved Astral and he loved III too but.. was it the same kind of love...?

[Ryoga X Yuma] SHARKBAITSHIPPING

Ryoga hated Yuma's gut on their first encounters but, of course, with his insistence on being friends and general stubbornness, he made his way into Ryoga's heart and mellowed him out from the inside

he doesn't let it show but he is so protective of Yuma. Watching from afar, just making sure he was fine was enough

Ryoga, being the main cause of many issues himself, has witnessed most of that happened between Yuma and Astral, and to some degree, between Yuma and III

Yuma loved everyone, including him but there was never hope of his feelings getting anywhere because Yuma never looked at him with that kind of affection or intention

his love kept ablaze though, eating him from the inside, so terribly painful and lonely

[Astral ?? Ryoga] UNAWARESHIPPING

as a Barian, Ryoga was capable of traveling between the worlds and he would often aid Astral in his missions

they did everything they could to keep Yuma away from danger and that was one of the few things they had in common in the beginning

they both also shared loss and their backstories were intertwined

Astral was apart from Yuma against his will and Ryoga willingly drew apart from Yuma. Their pain was similar, even if coming from different places

in one of the many scenarios I imagined for these 2, Astral does "return" and manages to get a body of his own but there was something.. unsettling about Yuma

because Ryoga knew and because he also predicted several outcomes, he stand by Astral - nothing to lose and regardless of what happens, he would remain alone either way or they both would

[III X Yuma ?? Astral] DESPAIRSHIPPING

everything was supposed to go back to normal after Astral's return the problem is... too much time have passed, too many emotions took place, too many wounds were festering in the open

Yuma kept overthinking about how much he loved Astral and what they mean to each other, as if he were trying to hold onto the feelings, because if he stopped, it would all fade away

wasn't that because he didn't want to deal with all those other, strangely familiar, feelings he started cultivating towards III?

Astral declared his love and pulled away

III declared his love and pushed forward

he was happy about Astral being back and his feelings never changed, even though he felt they waver. It was just that.. he had a whole set of other feelings directed to someone else entirely

it was conflicting, and painful

[Astral X Yuma ?? Ryoga] COMPANIONSHIPPING

Ryoga saw what was happening and felt bad for Astral, but he felt so much worse for himself

when he was "competing" with Astral, he could still twist and bend his mind into believing the slightly drop of hope, that his feelings would reach Yuma and it would be reciprocal

Astral wasn't there

[III X Yuma ?? Ryoga] ALTERSHIPPING

but III was

that's when Ryoga felt he "lost" - he and Astral both

unlike them, III went after what he wanted in spite of consequences. It paid off. Yuma was conflicted. Everyone was hurting

[Astral X Ryoga] UNAWARESHIPPING

while everyone was taking some time to process everything, unforeseen circumstances ended up drawing Astral and Ryoga closer, and helped them both drift away from Yuma

at least, regarding feelings of love

it was harder for Ryoga, since Astral, in essence, didn't have many attachments over his own emotions - meaning, he was aware that fretting over what was, is and could be would take nowhere, only cause unnecessary stress

but they manage to walk through the pain, and see the other side

they remained together even after Astral left

they were together now, too

that was comforting for Ryoga, in a way he couldn't explain, and Astral did notice their friendship deepening but he only had Yuma to compare and that hurt Ryoga, as if everything in their lives revolved around Yuma

that was true..

Ryoga don't want to think about that anymore. His hopes are shattered beyond repair and he can only move forward

he and Astral fight at some point, because they want to move on and seemingly can't

much like the other 2, an "accident" stirs confusion and sow feelings that would, otherwise, remain buried or be born anew..

[III X Yuma] AZTECSHIPPING

Yuma and III grow closer and closer, not because he and Astral drift afar but because III did make his way into his heart after all

the doubts and confusion start becoming clearer

a new love is budding

[Astral X Ryoga] UNAWARESHIPPING

the wounds in Astral and Ryoga, their past as individuals and collectively will never really go away

but they found each other and they can heal and grow stronger

their connection is still immature and cold, but their bond is solid and unbreakable, their similarities work to their advantage

just like that, they have a place to come back to

they have each other

ps.: yes I was purposely vague on Ryoga X Astral parts because [SPOILERS] of that comic I'm making! Other than that these are various headcanons I've had throughout the years (they're all over my blog just check the shipping and writing tags) where I shifted my focus onto a pairing I would never have thought about but it's now my current and major obsession (LETS GO ME WOOOOOOO)
