“The Bible is Alive” Devotional By YouVersion - Day 5: “The Bible Pierces Darkness”:
“Diya didn’t want to have anything to do with Christianity. But in 2017, Diya’s best friend shared her testimony at her New Zealand church. Diya showed up to support her … and kept coming back. She gave her life to Jesus later that year, just before moving to India.
Navigating a new faith in a new country without a Christian community was exhausting, and Diya eventually became so depressed that she struggled to get out of bed each day.
“I was so lonely and I found it really hard to connect with people. I lost a lot of my autonomy and independence when I moved to India, and a lot of toxic thoughts entered my mind. But it wasn’t until I was able to connect with Scripture in YouVersion that I was able to change the way I think.”
YouVersion provided Diya with a way to stay connected to other Christians and learn from them through Bible Plans. And since 2018, she’s completed over 428 of them.
Anytime Diya has a question, she opens her YouVersion app and searches for Plans on that topic. And the more Plans she reads, the more her faith grows.
“Some days I’ll start 11 Plans just to try and immerse myself in truth. It’s an opportunity to learn from people who’ve walked in your shoes and get encouragement from them. I’ve been learning that I’m not alone in my struggles. I can hear from people who have gone through depression and come out on the other side, and it’s helped me realize that followers of Jesus struggle with mental health, too.”
Now, whenever Diya feels lonely, depressed, or isolated, she’s able to cling to God’s promises and hold up every thought she has against what Jesus says about her.
“Sometimes, when you’re depressed, you just need a word. The app was a ‘shortcut’ that helped me figure out the Bible and my faith. Technology is such a cool tool that we can use to connect with our faith. I don’t think I would be around had I not had a way to be connected through Christ, because those times were really dark and He was the only source of light that I had—and still have.”
Because of the power of God’s Word, isolation can be transformed into connection, and hope can be discovered in the midst of adversity.
Reflect on Diya’s story for a moment, and then spend some time talking to God about the season you’re currently in. As you do this, ask God to reveal to you what is true about your situation, and then search the Scriptures for His words of hope and encouragement. Allow His light to pierce any darkness in your life.”

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
1 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands;

Commentary:
In Psalm 119:105, the psalmist declares, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." The Word of God serves as a guiding light, illuminating our way and directing our steps in the midst of darkness and uncertainty.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 affirms the divine inspiration and authority of Scripture, declaring that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Hebrews 4:12 describes the Word of God as living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It penetrates deep into the innermost recesses of our being, exposing truth and bringing transformation.
James 1:22-25 admonishes believers not only to be hearers of the Word but also doers, for blessed are those who hear the Word and obey it. The Word of God is likened to a mirror, reflecting our true spiritual condition and revealing areas in need of alignment with God's will.
John 15:1-17 - Jesus' teaching on abiding in Him as the vine and bearing fruit.
Colossians 3:12-17 - Paul's exhortation to clothe ourselves with virtues such as kindness, humility, and forgiveness.
Matthew 7:16-20 - Jesus' teaching on recognizing false prophets by their fruits.
Ephesians 5:9 - Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit as being in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Matthew 12:33 - Jesus speaks about how a tree is known by its fruit.
James 3:17-18 - James describes the wisdom from above as being pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of good fruits.
Proverbs 11:30 - "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise."
Psalm 1:3 - "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
Galatians 5:16-26 - The contrast between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit.
Luke 6:43-45 - Jesus' teaching on how a good tree brings forth good fruit, and an evil tree brings forth evil fruit.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30
The book of Proverbs begins and ends with the fear of the LORD. The book of wisdom places emphasis on revering God in a manner that is worthy of His Name!
Our physical appearance is important, but it must always come secondary to the true beauty and strength of our heart. As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart (Proverbs 27:19). The source of true beauty is the state of our heart. Therefore, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
The wise in heart accept commands. (Proverbs 10:8)
The praise that matters most isn’t given to cover models, but to the woman whose heart rightly reverences and obeys God: the woman who fears the LORD.
