glacial embrace (1)
summary: the god of mischief carries a burdensome weight.
sign of the times series masterlist
read on ao3
a/n: enjoy my attempt at writing loki
Tumblr media
The God of Mischief carried a burdensome weight upon his shoulders. It chiseled away at his thin resolve, making him more bitter as time passed. He no longer found joy in Thor's antics, he didn't find amusement in making life harder for his brother or his family for the sake of harmless fun.
The weight caved his shoulders, and embraced him like a hug from a cold winter breeze. It nipped at his nose, leaving his lips dry. It made his fingers ache to the bone, but he eased into the frostiness, not knowing what else to do.
The chilling embrace encased him, mind, body and soul. It made him lethargic, and mean. His harmless pranks turn into outright war, preying on Thor's bravado and almost getting them all killed by the Frost Giants. His acceptance of the cold overtaking him suddenly makes sense after Odin informs him of his birthright.
The ice makes his way through his brain. It poisons him, like a cancer. Attacking the most vulnerable parts of him, kicking him while he's down. When he hangs over the edge of the rainbow bridge, his father and brother staring down at him, he feels the icy embrace wrap around him and he lets go, his brother's screams echoing around him as he falls into the void of space.
And then Thanos finds him. And he sees that icy embrace, whatever it may be that lingers in him, and he uses it. He convinces Loki that his birthright is a throne. The throne of Midgard, of the weak little humans. Loki's green eyes turn blue, the same color of the ice he was born from, the same ice Odin stole him from. The color of the stone that has overtaken his every waking thought.
And then he meets the Avengers.
Well, he meets two sets of the Avengers. The infold of Steve Rogers' self righteousness and his brother's eau de parfum of stupidity doesn't take a genius to recognize, though it helps that Loki is one.
He gets the Tesseract again, and when his hands wrap around the enticing cube, he feels the cold in his bones retract and disappear for the first time in years. On the other side of the portal he'd so abruptly created, he is met with warmth.
The frozen thrum of his pulse beats rapidly, and he stands with a pant, overwhelmed at the feeling. He clutches onto the Tesseract, clinging to it as the ice makes itself known once more.
The cold embrace encases his heart, and slows his pulse. Loki forces his disappointment at the brief relief away when the uniformed strangers wrap a collar around his neck and accuse him of violating the Sacred Timeline.
For a moment, Loki thought he might be free of the twisted relationship he's had with that ice all these years. But, as he has come to learn so unwillingly, he never gets what he wants without paying a hefty price.

my loki headcanons because i’m a genius and always right:
loki and tony stark knew each other before the events of the avengers and that’s how loki knew he could use stark tower to power the tesseract
loki and mobius totally kissed at least once during loki’s centuries long time slipping and loki explained everything to mobius exhaustedly but of course mobius forgets everything since it’s a time loop :(
mobius goes back to the TVA after “letting time pass” because he can’t find a life worth living on the sacred timeline if loki isn’t there with him, and the TVA is his only real family anyway
sylvie finds a sapphic partner on the sacred timeline and they like date and get married and she’s happy yippee
brad/x-5 invites mobius and sylvie to the ‘zaniac’ sequel movie premiere like he promised to do and mobius goes just to drunkenly flirt with everyone at the reception because he misses loki
ravonna is alive in the void with all the lokis and finds new meaning in rehabilitating them and helping them work together and survive (also she definitely is president loki’s right hand woman because i say so)
there is an alternate timeline where sylvie took up loki’s glorious purpose instead of him

Thanks for the tag @thiamsxbitch lovely!! I love this one so much but oh my goddess. i have so many wips. this isn’t even close to all of them but I got tired akjdskhakjdk
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
In my case I don’t have asks open so if anyone’s interested then put it in a reply and I’ll share something! Titles with a star * after them are just messy concepts/pages of notes.

Fandometrics In Depth: Loki
The God of Mischief may be full of tricks, but this post sure isn’t. Read on for some spoiler-free facts and data about Tumblr’s favorite son of Odin and Frigga, and his solo entry in the MCU.
After 10 years and six appearances in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, it’s finally Loki’s time to shine and, maybe, finally get that redemption arc we’ve all been dreaming of. Disney+’s latest addition to their roster of Marvel-centric TV shows is centered around Loki in the events following his brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame. We won’t share too much, but we’re introduced to an entire new cast of characters, including the mysterious and devout agents of the Time Variance Authority, and Loki is forced to reconcile with himself more than once.
This time around, we analyzed engagement data around tags used between the first Loki trailer’s drop on December 10, 2020, and the latest episode of the show (as of writing this post), which aired on July 7, 2021, to calculate its most talked about characters, actors and actresses, and ships.
Tumblr media
Those who have strayed from the Sacred Timeline
While many of these characters still remain a mystery, it hasn’t stopped you from loving them immensely and talking about them constantly. Because the MCU still hasn’t changed its habit of naming films and TV shows after the main character, we’re using a strict real name policy for this list. Below are the most tagged characters in Loki, ranked:
Loki Laufeyson | 50.14%
Mobius M. Mobius | 23.82%
Sylvie | 13.4%
Kid Loki | 3.37%
Classic Loki | 2.6%
Alligator Loki | 2.6%
President Loki | 1.92%
Ravonna Renslayer | 0.81%
Boastful Loki | 0.7%
Hunter B-15 | 0.64%
Tumblr media
The ones causing chaos behind the scenes
In a twist of fate that surprises exactly no one, Tom Hiddleston remains Tumblr’s favorite member of TH Squared (in this timeline, at least), and tops our list of the most talked about actors in Loki. A few actors also made their MCU debut in the latest Marvel TV entry and quickly rose in the ranks of your hearts. Check out the full breakdown below:
Tom Hiddleston | 76.74%
Owen Wilson | 15.5%
Sophia Di Martino | 5.35%
Wunmi Mosaku | 1.23%
Richard E. Grant | 1.18%
Tumblr media
Ships passing in the endless void of space
This cast may be small, but their love for each other is infinite. Below are the top three ships from Loki, ranked:
Lokius (Loki Laufeyson x Mobius M. Mobius) | 88.45%
Sylki (Loki Laufeyson x Sylvie) | 10.74%
Sylkius (Loki Laufeyson x Sylvie x Mobius M. Mobius) | 0.81%
Tumblr media
For all time. Always.
Loki may have been the shortest Disney+ Marvel TV show thus far, but now that the season’s over, we’ve got some blogs to keep the momentum going. Beware, they do contain some spoilers:
Daily Loki (@dailyloki) compiles the best Loki-related memes, GIF sets, and fanart Tumblr has to offer, all in one convenient blog
RJ Pierce (@lousysharkbutt) draws fanart of your favorite puny god and his MCU buddies
Lego Loki (@lego-loki) for Lego reenactments of iconic Marvel moments
Follow the #Loki tag for GIFs, fanart, memes, and more! Don’t forget you can filter any tag from your dashboard for a spoiler-free experience. If you need a reminder for how to do that, check out this handy Tips page.

When you got pruned in front of Loki, his world broke apart. The last thing he heard was your little voice saying 'sowwy Daddy'.
He felt nothing but pure rage, against the TVA, against Ravonna, against the timekeepers, against himself for getting you into this mess.
When Ravonna brought him and Sylvie to the timekeepers he fought to revenge you but got disappointed that the timekeepers were just androids and got soon after pruned by Ravonna too.
Loki thought this was the end, but wasn't sad or scared about it. That means he could get back to you.
When he woke up he stood up and walked around the void, looking for anything or anyone else. He found a bunker and thought he could hide there until he made a plan and sneaked inside.
He tried to be quiet as possible and eavesdropped from behind a corner, hearing giggling and talking.
"You silly Dada"
"Oh, I'm silly? Let me show you how silly I can truly be"
He heard more laughing and peaked from over the corner and froze in place.
There were you. Still dressed in the clothes the TVA had given you, but ripped at a few places, sitting on the lap of one of his Variants, who just looks exactly like him.
You were alive and you weren't hurt.
"Little one..." he called out and you whipped your head in his direction.
"DADDY!" you shout and quickly got off from President Loki's lap, running over to your Loki and stumbled in his arms. "Missed you..."
"I thought you were gone" he mumbled and got down on his knees with you pressed against his chest and heard your quiet sniffles. "Hey, shh, it's okay. I'm here now, Daddy's here"
President Loki's face fell a bit, seeing you now with your actual Daddy made him think you would leave him and forget about him.
But a smile appeared on his face when you walked over to him and grabbed his hand, making him stand up and face his Variant.
"Daddy, this is Pwesident Loki. He's wike the king here and wook I have a batch wike him" you said proudly and showed your batch. "He saved me from Allioth"
"You saved her?"
"What did you expect. She's a Y/n Variant, every Loki has or had a little one. I couldn't let her get hurt or worse die" President Loki said and you kissed his cheek.
Loki held his hand out for him and shook his hand.
"Thank you, for saving her"
"Daddy, we gonna stay here?" you asked and held your hands up for him to pick you up, which he gladly did.
He looked at President Loki and then looked around.
Here they would be safe. Here would you be safe, from Allioth and the TVA. You could live here without anyone breaking you apart.
"Yes. Yes, we stay here, little one"
A few days passed and Loki was at first very skeptical about the President version of himself and watched him closely.
But when Loki saw how he cares about you and how he treats you. He thought he wasn't so bad and decide to accept him as your second caregiver.
You squealed in joy when Loki told you he would be your second Daddy and tried your best to spend time with both of them equally.
Everyone was safe, and everyone was happy. You and your Loki's would no one ever break apart again.

Driving Lesson
Tumblr media
To say you were confused would be a massive understatement. You were also terrified having been separated from your father upon arriving at what you had recently discovered to be the TVA. You now stood before a judge awaiting his verdict.
“I find you Y/N guilty of crimes against the sacred timeline and sentence you to be pruned.” The judge declares. Two guards walk forward grabbing your arms pulling you towards the door. There is another woman following closely behind it was the same woman who had taken you and your dad here.
“Wait, wait a second, what does that mean?” You ask frantically struggling in the minutemen's grip.
“You will find out soon enough keep walking.” The woman behind you speaks, pushing you forward. Once you were out of the courtroom you were led down the hall to a new room the two minutemen left leaving you alone with the woman from earlier.
“What will happen to my father?”
“I don’t know and it doesn’t really matter. My job right now is to prune you.” She pulls out a baton and twists it causing the end to glow orange. She begins to approach you, pointing the glowing end at you.
“Wait please don’t do this I don’t want to-” you cut yourself off with a shout of pain as it spreads from your chest as you disintegrate into thin air.
Tumblr media
"Gods we don’t have all day, she needs to wake up soon.” A british voice speaks from above you. You can also hear another voice say something but you can’t make out their words. “No! I will not carry her to our bunker.”
“What the fuck is going on.” You grumble rubbing your eyes. You slowly sit up and look up seeing that you are surrounded by a group of men each man has some variation of horns on their heads. The man in the center who you assume was talking before you open your eyes is leaning over you is wearing a tattered suit and small golden horns with a vote for Loki pin on his lapel.
“Finally you are awake! Well get her up we need to move.” The “President” says. Two of the men grab your arms, lugging you up.
“Wait a second! This is the second time today that I am in a new place with people I don’t know. I will not just be dragged along again!” You shout putting my foot down.
“You might wish to rethink that.” The leader says pointing at something behind you. Turning around you see a huge dark cloud like monster with red glowing from what seems to be its eyes and mouth. You gulp stepping back bumping into president Loki.
“Oh...Uhh...Okay I’ll come with you only because I really don't want to die.” President Loki smiles in a sickening way down at you.
“Good choice darling.” He takes your arm in an uncomfortable tight grip pulling you towards a nearby building. As you approach the building you recognise the building as the white house but it looks very rundown. Once you are inside you rip your arm from the man's grasp.
“Who the hell are you people? What was that thing? Where the fuck am I?” You shout at the men surrounding you.
“Oh you will find out soon enough.” President Loki raises his hand and you hear footsteps approaching you from behind you feel something hard hit the back of your head causing your vision to go black.
As you begin to come to the first thing you recognize is that you are in a dark room made of concrete. The ground you were sitting on was damp and cold. The only light in the room was a sliver coming in from under the door. You stand up and as you approach the door you hear some fighting on the other side. You wait for the fighting to stop. After what feels like 30 minutes or so the fighting noises stop and footsteps approach the door you were behind.
Tumblr media
The door flies open after being hit by a green burst of magic. You jump back startled. You look to see who has just broken the door down. You see two men and a boy standing before you. All of the men in front of you are wearing green with accents of gold much like the men from earlier. As you take in the sight before you something catches your eye.
“Okay I appreciate the help with those guys. I have one question though.” The man dressed in mostly yellow with a green bodysuit nods lightly.
“Yes of course! I am sure you are very confused.”
“Yes, yes I definitely have a lot of questions. My first and most pressing question is who are you people?” You definitely look very confused.
“Well we are all variants of Loki the god of mischief.” You nod slightly in response.
“Like umm from Norse Mythology cool, cool didn’t know the gods were real.” This causes the Loki’s to look at you confused.
“Yes of course they are.”
“Well obviously. Can we get out of here maybe and discuss this somewhere else?”
“Yes of course that is probably a good idea.” The older man says while the young boy offers you his hand.
“Thank you Loki.” You tell the boy quietly, causing him to grin up at you. The three Loki’s lead you to a new hideout that is underground.  “Why the fuck is there an alligator in here and why does it have horns two?”
“It’s a Loki too!” All the Loki’s yell at the same time. It is this group you spend the next what you believe to be 10 years. Over this time you have gotten very close with your four Loki’s and have given each of them a nickname to distinguish who you are speaking to there's Kid Loki who was trap forever at the age of 9, Boastful Loki who’s main trait was that he loves to brag and over exaggerate his stories, and then you have Classic Loki who kept to the sacred timeline for the longest, finally there is Alligator Loki who is an alligator.
The five of you were making your normal rounds when you stumbled across a new Loki variant who was wearing a TVA analyst’s uniform. You walk up to the new Loki and nudge him onto his back and tap his cheek.
“Wake up,” You say quietly. The Loki below you opens his eyes and looks at you confused.
“Hello? Am I dead?” He asks.
“Not yet but you will be if you don’t come with us.” Classic Loki announces making his way towards the hideout along with Boastful Loki and Kid Loki who happens to be carrying Alligator Loki, but you wait for the new Loki to stand up.
“Are you alright?” You ask the man quietly watching as he stands up still looking at you with curious eyes.
“Yes I believe so.” Loki says in a posh british accent. “Who are you?”
“Oh I’m Y/N. Not to be rude but we really do need to go.”
“Right of course lead the way.” You nod slightly leading him back to the other Loki’s. You make eye contact with Classic Loki having a silent conversation about how you should go ahead so that the Loki’s can talk and not bore you with information you already know, but you are hesitant something about this new Loki made you want to stay and hear what he had to say. You knew better than to argue with Classic Loki however and walked slightly ahead. You hear them talk about Alioth and how Kid Loki’s nexus event was killing Thor which the new Loki seemed mildly impressed by. When you guys finally arrive at the hideout you are the last to enter following after the new Loki. He pauses and offers you a hand as you step off the latter which you take.
“Thanks Loki.”
“Yes of course Y/N.” He gives you that curious look again.
“What is it? You keep looking at me like I’m a riddle.”
“You just remind me of someone.” He responds vaguely.
“Ohh Okay.” The two of you join the others sitting in a circle. The Loki’s go one to share their lives stories. After a while the new Loki turns to you and asks you the question you were waiting for.
“What was your Nexus event Y/N?”
“I have no idea if I am being honest with you. My Father and I were just taken one day.”
“Oh I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay it wasn’t your fault.” He nods before talking about a female variant of himself. As he described Sylvie you couldn’t help but wish that you had gotten the opportunity to meet her. She seems incredible. Loki then asked you guys to help him, the only response he got was silence. You wanted so badly to help him but what could you do? You were just someone that kept the Loki's company. You had no powers. The new Loki says something about getting back to her himself walking towards the exit. “Wait!” You call out to him as you follow after him. Loki stops dead in his tracks and he seems to realise why he recognises you.
“Mobius, that's who you remind me of.” Loki mumbles quietly and you nearly miss it.
“I’m sorry I don’t know who that is. I just wanted to tell you that I want to help you find Sylvie. I’m not sure how much I could do to help. I'm not you, I have no powers, but I could be your guild.” You smile softly at him.
“Thank you Y/N, I appreciate any help you can offer me.” He returns your smile.
“Great, I'll grab my stuff and meet you outside if you want to head up.”
“Okay see you up there.” You nod in response before you turn to collect your things and say goodbye to your friends who have become like your family. When you turn to leave again however you are greeted by New Loki being pushed forward by President Loki.
“Oh you have got to be shitting me! Seriously!” You shout turning to your Loki’s to find Boastful Loki holding his hammer to Kid Loki’s throat.
“Hello again darling. Did you miss me?” President Loki asks from behind you.
“You know what ironically no I didn't miss you you absolute narcissistic prick!” You shout turning towards him about to lunge when the new Loki grabs you and pulls you to the side of the room near him.
“Maybe don’t get in the middle of the gods' arguments.” He whispers to you which you shrug in response to. These arguments happen every couple of months so at this point you are used to it. You only half listen while President Loki and Boastful Loki argue, tuning back in hearing President Loki shout.
“And what the Hell is an Alligator doing in here.”
“It’s a Loki!” You all shout and then all hell breaks loose. You cling to the new Loki’s side as you two avoid the fight trying to reach the exit. When the two of you run into Classic Loki who was with both Kid and Alligator Loki, Classic Loki creates an illusion of the five of you fighting while the real five of you make your escape.
“So what is the plan now?” You ask the question that was hanging in the air.
“I don’t know we need to pla-” The new Loki stops mid sentence when you all hear a car in the distance. Loki runs towards the vehicle as it stops and a woman gets out.
“Loki what the hell!” You chase after him but stop dead in your tracks when you see the man who exits the car. The man doesn’t seem to see you as he approaches Loki. “Dad!?!” You shout, gaining his attention.
“Y/N is that you?” He asks, approaching you slowly. You feel tears gathering in your eyes.
“Yeah dad it’s me.” You feel tears slide down your cheeks as he pulls you into his chest.
“Are you okay! I am so sorry sweetheart. I’m so sorry.” He keeps repeating as he kisses your temple rocking you slightly. You let out a little giggle causing him to pull back slightly. “What are you giggling about kiddo?” He asks quietly, whipping away your tears from your cheeks.
“It’s just your driving skills look a little rusty...” You pause a second to sniffle “Seems like you could use a driving lesson dad.” You smirk as your dad rolls his eyes and pulls you into his chest again just holding you for the first time in years.

Loki (2021) Positivity from an Anti
Ok so all of my mutuals know I’m extremely anti-Loki (2021), anti-sylki, and anti-sylvie. But at a certain point, even we antis get tired of all the negativity. So! Here’s some Loki series commentary in the opposite direction! This is a list of all the things about the show that I loved :)
Also adding a disclaimer that all of this is just my opinion and some of my fellow antis (or even people who liked the show) might disagree, and that’s fine! I’ve been planning this post for awhile. I always say in my other posts that I don’t entirely hate the show and I wanted to be a little more specific about what I think are its good aspects. Feel free to leave your thoughts!
• Mobius is a gem (Owen Wilson owns my whole heart) and his relationship with Loki is so so great. He’s not one-dimensional at all, he has conflicted loyalty and is morally complex, and he has the tragic backstory- which makes him a perfect choice for eventually becoming Loki’s first genuine friend.
• The casting was really really great. Lots of women and people of color. Most of the female actresses (as well as the males) are over 30, which isn’t very common and is fantastic!
• Superb acting all around. I can’t think of a single scene where the actors under or oversold it.
• Beautiful set design, incredible cgi, and gorgeous cinematography overall. It looked more like a movie than a tv show, which is really good.
• Kang being the big bad was a huge plus for me. Johnathan Majors was perfect in the role, his vibes were immaculate, and I was honestly pretty worried that the man behind the curtain would end up being another Loki variant, which imo would’ve been boring and predictable and counter-productive, so it was a big relief when that didn’t happen.
• I like that it sets up a bunch of future marvel movies, rather than being contained to its own little world. It gives it more importance and (hopefully) will encourage writers to not just toss Loki’s character aside in future projects.
• All the Loki variants were delightful. All of them except Sylvie. Kid Loki has my heart. Boastful Loki is a fashion icon. Alligator Loki is a savage. President Loki is the superior variant. Classic Loki became my fav character in less than half an episode.
• It showed some more variety in Loki’s magic. A lot of his powers we’ve seen before, but it feels like they were portrayed a bit more blatantly in the show. The energy blasts, the telekinesis, the teleportation… Outstanding.
• It also implied that Loki has the potential to be waaaay more powerful than he knows he is right now, which? Yes.
• Some of the quotes- and the themes behind them- are just profound as hell. Such as:
“I think we’re stronger than we realise.”
“It’s never too late to change.”
“You can be whoever you wanna be, even someone good.”
“We’re Lokis. We survive. It’s what we do.”
“Loki, God of Outcasts.”
“The universe wants to break free, that’s why it manifests chaos.”
• Technically Loki was Marvel’s first canon lgbt (bi) character, which is a win. His genderfluidity is also technically canon, even if it wasn’t really acknowledged on-screen.
• There were a lot of throwback references to Thor 1, Avengers, and Thor The Dark World. Which I loved.
• Sylvie’s so pretty. Her hair and makeup and costume were all perfect.
• Big fan of Loki finally getting Laevateinn.
• Sufficiently slutty imagery, courtesy of a female director (Loki in a collar, kneeling to Sif, President Loki looking down into the bunker, the hair flips)
• The music was Excellent Wonderful and Superb.
• I love that Loki being a good singer is now canon.
• I love that Asgardians having their own language is now canon (even if it’s basically just Icelandic).
• I also love that they disproved all of those “Loki was a shy nerdy wallflower pre-canon” theories in Episode 3. The drinking/eating/singing scene was fun, if a bit wacky.
• There’s a million different reasons why Loki does what he does, especially in regards to the New York attack (I’m literally writing a huge meta on them), but somehow I never considered that Loki being desperate for control was one of them. It makes a lot of sense, and I always love getting new insights into his motivations.
• I love that Loki finally outright acknowledged that he doesn’t enjoy hurting people. We Been Knew™️ but it’s still nice to hear it out loud from his own mouth.
• The TVA outfit wasn’t as hideous as some people make it out to be. It could’ve been A Look, even. You know, if he’d just accessorised a little better. And kept the jacket on. And not gotten sweaty. And not gotten dirty. And maybe had at least one other costume change… But it had potential, though!!
• Even though I despise the Obvious One, I did actually like some of the other romance crumbs they tossed us (sifki, Loki x the flight attendant).
• The whole DB Cooper thing was iconic idc idc.
• Loki’s hyper sort of overly excited puppy attitude in episode 2 was actually pretty refreshing and funny (for awhile). And now I can headcanon him as adhd, yeehaw.
• “We’re all villains here.” That quote was iconic, my favourite one in the show. And the entire theme that it summarised was really great as well. When you think about it, every single main character in this series has been the villain at one point or another. I mean, I know all marvel characters do bad things etc, but none of the Heroes are ever narratively categorised as Bad. This show did just that with all of them, though. . Loki was framed as the psychopath that attacked New York. Sylvie was framed as the murderous fugitive. The TVA/Ravonna/Mobius were framed as the murderous fascists. Kang was framed as the crazy totalitarian. It’s made clear that all the Loki variants were the villains of their stories.
However, every single main character in the series is also framed as the Hero at a certain point. Loki is framed as the main protagonist who throws a wrench in the TVA’s dastardly plans. Sylvie is framed as the persevering freedom fighter who wants to take down the fascists. The TVA/Mobius/Ravonna are framed as the ones who maintain order for the greater good. Kang is framed as the weird but ultimately benevolent wise man who’s just trying to prevent something worse from happening. The Loki variants are framed as generous allies who befriend the main character and help him on his journey.
Everyone in this equation is openly acknowledged by the narrative to be morally corrupt, but not entirely morally bankrupt. There are no Straightforward Hero Figures (like the Avengers) in this entire scenario at all, and that makes for a super interesting dynamic that marvel has never done before. So yes: “We’re all villains here.” But also: “No one bad is ever truly bad, and no one good is ever truly good.” I loved that.
• Even if it wasn’t really enough imo, I still treasure the crumbs we got of Loki being competent and capable (him putting the collar on B-15, him figuring out Sylvie’s hiding place, him teaching himself to enchant on the fly while fighting a giant cloud beast of eldritch proportions).
• I love that B-15 was the one who stepped in and saved the day in Episode 4, when we all thought it was gonna be Mobius. What a queen.
• Marvel usually has a bit of a problem with creating compelling and memorable side characters. But aside from Sylvie, I genuinely got attached to every single character in this show. Like Casey, C-20? I was seriously emotionally invested in them and they were only in like 2 episodes. Wtf.
• Introducing the TVA storyline in the Loki series specifically was a really good move. I’m not saying they executed it well, just that it had a ton of potential. A lot of people have wondered why marvel even thought to put those two (the TVA and Loki) together, when they had literally nothing to do with each other, nothing in common, and essentially no connection at all. But when you think about it, it’s a really interesting twist on both of those stories. Forcing the embodiment of destructive chaos and the pillar of rigid order to interact could make for some seriously entertaining and compelling television. And as far as meshing these two completely unrelated entities together goes, I thought they did it pretty well- at least just the bare bones of the story (loki being arrested by the TVA and being one of their most common variants).
So that’s it! If you guys (fellow antis) wanna add stuff you liked, feel free. If anyone wants to discuss (or debate) my list, feel free to do that too!

Long Loki rant incoming
Ok first things first I've always liked Loki a lot as a character but I don't consider myself a really really big fan mainly because I haven't read the comics. So all this rant is gonna be only about mcu loki and loki in the mcu has been written differently depending on the movie so yeah. And on that note let's go!!!!
So today I'm gonna talk about what I liked and what I didn't like about the Loki show. This is obviously just my opinion, you can disagree with me! I'd love to hear your opinions!
First I wanna talk about is the writing of Loki's character. So previously it has been established in the mcu that Loki doesn't do bad things just because he's a bad guy or because he wants power above everything else, but because after all the manipulation and lying he went through as a child, the abuse, always been seen as less than those around him and being taught to hate himself for who he was (a Jotun). He wants validation and being treated the same as the others, he doesn't really care about ruling or being king. His actions are a result of his trauma. So the show painting him as "He's a bad guy!! He's evil he can't help it it's in his nature!! He just wants to be king!!!" felt off to me since it completely goes against all the previous canon. Apart from that, I feel the show also erased other aspects of him that had always been essential to his character, such as him being very smart and always having a plan, and his powers (he BARELY used his powers throughout the season and he's supposed to be the best sorcerer in the nine realms. Please). So yeah there's that. I didn't absolutely despise his character in the show or anything like that, he generally seemed more happy and chill and that was good, I just felt some aspects of the character seemed inconsistent.
Apart from Loki, something I loved about the show were all the new characters that we were introduced to. Sylvie was absolutely fantastic, she had a well written tragic backstory, she had a goal and she had layers. She was a really well written character. Also she was just really cool overall, she had a cool personality and seeing her use her powers was very fun. (Sylvie your hand in marriage) (I guess I can talk about the "betrayal" now. So yeah not gonna lie I don't think it was that bad. She had a goal she had been pursuing her whole life and she obviously prioritized that before a guy who she met a few days ago. She did hurt him of course but still it's easy to understand her decision.) Mobius was also really cool, in the first episode I didn't like him much but I started liking him a lot later on. He's just a good guy, he wants to help people. (HE ONLY WANTED A JETSKI MARVEL). And I liked his story a lot, he was forced into working for the tva because his memories were erased and he was told what he was doing the right thing when killing all those people, but once he finds out all of it was false he immediately starts going against it and trying to help as many people as he can. Ravonna was also a good character (I keep saying all of them are good characters lol they're well written ok). Like okay she was a little bit evil but I liked her. I really liked her ambition and her confidence. I would have loved to know more about her life at the tva, because it seemed like because of her position she knew some things that most didn't. Hunter B15 was also really good, loved her character development. Casey only appeared in the first two eps but for some reason I liked him a lot idk why. Casey my beloved. Kang was mind-blowing good, he absolutely carried the episode. He was so fun to watch and a very interesting character. This is how you do villains Marvel. And then all the Loki variants were amazing. Classic Loki was great, he was more mature and wiser than the Loki we're used to watching and I felt really sad about his whole situation (aka trying and failing to find his brother because he missed him, getting pruned and then dying). Kid loki was a BLAST, I really liked the little funky dude and I would love to know more about his life. Boastful Loki didn't appear for long but I liked him a lot, he looked like a really funny guy I wish he had had more screen time. And then there was the Lokigator which was also great. President Loki was also cool (meaning he had the coolest outfit), but we didn't see much of him. I think that's a big problem with the show, because they made it seem like it was gonna be more about the other Loki variants and their timelines (that's what it seemed to me from the trailers) but then we barely got that. Sad shit.
Now let's talk about the writing of the show in general. The writers definitely went off with the philosophical conversations, I enjoyed them greatly (Loki's and Mobius' talk in the second ep and Loki's and Sylvie's talk in the third ep were amazing). Something I didn't like at all about the show (this is probably my biggest complaint) is that the writing of the show throughout the episodes didn't seem consistent, like each episode seemed to be a different genre, and that made the whole story feel weird. What I'm trying to say is: the first episode was about Loki learning more about his life and reflecting on why he does the things he does. There was more to the episode but it was mainly that. It was a very emotional episode. The second episode looked like a cop show, they investigated a crime scene in the beginning, they did some detectiving, they had a great breakthrough and found out were the villain was hiding in the end. The third episode was an action episode. It gave me the vibes of mid season episode that isn't too relevant to the plot in which the characters go on some short mission. The fourth episode I can't exactly categorize it I think it was kinda like episode 1 but with some more action. The fifth episode was also a mix, they had a lot of reflecting on Loki's character like in the first episode and then also some action. And the last episode was mostly just exposition and a tiny bit of action at the end, very philosophical and stuff. It also felt like in the first two episodes they were indicating that the show was gonna be about free will and good and evil but that kind of disappeared for a big part of the show. I'm trying so hard to explain myself well, I hope what I say makes sense. Now my opinion on the episodes, my favourites were definitely ep 1, 3 and 5 (haha odd numbers go brrrr). The pilot was absolutely amazing, and I loved the direction the show seemed to be taking (YES MARVEL explore his trauma mmmm that's some good shit right there). It was really emotional but like in a good way. The third episode was great. I think it balanced really well the action and the dialogue, seeing Loki and Sylvie going on their shenanigans, using their powers and fighting was really fun, and then the train talk scene was absolutely amazing (bi loki yay! Gonna talk about this later). The fifth episode was great mostly because seeing all the other Loki variants and how they contrasted between each other was fantastic and I loved it. I really hope we see more of the variants in the next season. The other eps, the second and fourth were okay, the one I think was the worst one was the last one. Damn that episode. It was a very slow episode. Thank god the guy who plays Kang was really good because otherwise the episode would have been impossible to watch. There was so much exposure but it felt like we already knew most of it? They talked about how multiple timelines existing was bad because chaos and stuff, and they talked about the war in which the different timelines battled each other. Ok we already knew this. I feel like the only important thing to take from that whole talk was that Kang's variants are very powerful and dangerous and they were introducing the villain to the mcu. The whole episode felt like instead of giving closure to the characters or ending some storylines, the main thing it was doing was introducing the concept of the multiverse for the next marvel movies.
Something that surprised me a lot about the show is how important it is for the mcu storyline. Like in the first episode they talked about how the tva (and of course Kang) was much more powerful than the Infinity Stones, when basically all previous marvel movies were about them and about their power. And then Kang was revealed to have created a sacred timeline, he controls absolutely everything that happens. All of this is so important and for some reason I didn't think the show was gonna be like this. Not that I'm complaining, this is great. And I feel like a lot of people are not realising how big it is? Like I don't see much talking about how this is literally the greatest power in the universe.
Damn this is getting long sorry.
I suppose I'll have to talk about it because it has been this big thing. I'm talking about the loki x sylvie pairing. I didn't like it too much, it felt a lot like the writers went "he's a guy she's a girl so they have to fall in love", like I felt they had a very different dynamic and when they said that I was mostly surprised and confused. Because they were variants of each other their romance felt weird to me, and the fact that they made a character genderfluid and then made a woman and a man version fall in love also rubbed me the wrong way (I'll talk about the genderfluidity later). I did like the mobius x loki pairing more, but still I don't think they should have got any romance this season, I feel like there has to be a lot more progress in that relationship before any romance. I generally feel like Loki should first start getting some friends and then later on we can start with romance. But yeah this is just my opinion. And all the drama and discourse there has been over this???? Some of you guys look ridiculous not gonna lie.
Ok now let's talk about representation. I'm not poc myself so I don't feel like I'm in the position to say if something was good or bad, so I'm not gonna talk about poc rep. The show did a good job with female characters, many of the main characters were women and they were very well-written, not sexualized and cast appropriately for their age (I can't believe I'm praising this, this should be the bare minimum. Why is media in general so bad. Like please just.) About the bi rep now. I'm sure that the writers or directors of the show had to fight really hard with marvel so that they could make loki canon bi, so yeah cheers to that guys good job. Obviously it's not enough, and I really hope his bisexuality is explored more later. But yeah we finally have a queer character in the mcu this is big. Now about the genderfluid rep. OOF. I have a lot to say about this. It was bad. Really bad. I don't know if they just don't know what genderfluid means but that's what it looks like after watching the show. Not only were all of the variants cis, but they also went on to say that Loki as a woman was a weird and uncommon thing. Oh my god. And what angers me the most is the fact that Marvel used the so called genderfluid confirmation to their benefit. They exploited so much that little piece of paper that said his sex (not even gender) was fluid. I saw SO MANY articles praising marvel for making him canon genderfluid, and then it was absolutely shit. Absolutely shit. Out of everything in the show this is definitely what I hate the most.
Gotta calm down now. The soundtrack of the show was amazing, the actual songs they used were perfect and then the music they composed for the show was just *chef's kiss* (i have no idea how they're called but the song that plays during the title sequence WHAT A BANGER and the one that plays when loki and mobius are looking at the whole tva from the balcony in the first ep WHAT A BANGER). The aesthetic of the show was also great, the colours were really pretty (Lamentis bi colours my beloved) and I think it had some really cool shots. The acting was great, I'm gonna highlight Kang because I thought he was amazing. The costumes and that stuff were also really cool, I really liked seeing all the different versions of outfits they gave to the Loki variants (if anyone is interested I made another post reviewing all the variants' outfits) and Kang's funky costume was great too. The design of the places and that stuff (I have no idea how to call these lol I'm trying so hard but I don't know any of the technical words) was great: Lamentis was really beautiful, the void was also very cool and the tva was really well designed.
Ok y'all I think this is it. I'm so sorry this is much longer than I expected and if anyone actually reads all of it i love you and PLEASE tell me your thoughts (if anyone wanna chat about the show with me privately send me a message!!! I love talking with y'all). A little final note, English is not my first language, nor my second, so yeah sorry if I can't explain myself well. Bye!!!!

Marvel’s Loki Episode 5: MCU Easter Eggs and References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains Loki episode 5 spoilers.
Marvel’s Loki episode 5 is a big one. Yes, we know…last week felt like that. And the one before it, too. But this one really IS, with the entire episode taking place (as DoG’s Kayti Burt put it) on top of a literal “trash pile of MCU and Marvel Comics Easter eggs.”
With that in mind, let’s have some fun with all the incredible Marvel references they managed to sneak into Loki episode 5.
Journey Into Mystery
You probably already know this, but Journey Into Mystery was the book that first introduced the Marvel Comics version of Thor, with Loki following shortly after. The title eventually was just renamed Thor since the Asgardians had become the primary focus of the book for years by that point. However, Journey Into Mystery was revived a few years back, with its primary focus being on the adventures of Kid Loki this time around.
Thanos Copter
The Lokis pass a helicopter with “THANOS” on the side. This is a reference to Spidey Super Stories #39 from 1979. The all-ages comic featured a story of Spider-Man and the Cat (Hellcat) taking on Thanos, who was on the hunt for the Cosmic Cube. He flew around New York City in his own helicopter with his name on the side. The reference comes up as a joke here and there, including an issue of Deadpool. Even Thanos’ giant two-sided blade weapon from Avengers: Endgame has been considered by many to be a sly reference to the Thanos Copter.
Ecto-Cooler
While the Lokis are all drinking wine, Kid Loki is shown drinking Hi-C Ecto Cooler. The Slimer-based citrus drink was a tie-in to The Real Ghostbusters cartoon of the 1980s and lasted into 2001 due to its popularity. Afterwards, it became a fondly-remembered relic to time. Ecto Cooler made a brief return in 2016 to coincide with the Ghostbusters reboot. Sadly, there’s no news of it coming back for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie.
Speaking of Kid Loki…
Kid Loki
Kid Loki seems to be wielding a flaming sword, which looks an awful lot like Laevateinn, the sword he wielded in the Loki: Agent of Asgard comics.
Polybius
In the background of the Lokis’ lair, we see a Polybius arcade machine. Polybius is a long-running urban legend. Supposedly, back in 1981, an arcade machine was set up in Portland, Oregon, watched over by various men in black. The game was so addicting that it caused fights to break out and horrible side-effects to its players. We wrote more about the decades-old mystery of Polybius right here.
Pretty sure there’s an old Williams Space Pinball machine in there, too but that’s not as wild as Polybius.
The Void
Fittingly, the realm where all the pruned victims end up is called the Void. In the comics, the Void is a dark, inexplicable, and possibly biblical entity that acts as the evil side to the Sentry. During the storyline Siege, the Void murdered Loki, which facilitated his rebirth as Kid Loki.
Alioth
Alioth first appeared in Avengers: The Terminatrix Objective #1, the same 1993 comic that also introduced Ravonna Renslayer to the world…and one that features Kang as its central villain. Hmmmm…
Oh, and Alioth was co-created by Mobius M. Mobius inspiration/model Mark Gruenwald, who gets another shout later in the episode.
Vote Loki
The “politician Loki” who we see leading (inasumuch as they can/want to be led) the loose coalition of Variant Lokis is modeled almost exactly on the version of Loki from Marvel’s Vote Loki story by Christopher Hastings, Langdon Foss, and Paul McCaffery. In it, Loki ends up running for President, with his ridiculous campaign built on the “honest” deception of openly lying to the American people inadvertently aided by a credulous news media. It’s a good read and you should check it out.
This episode also engages in the old MCU/Star Wars tradition of someone getting a hand cut off…in this case it’s our pal, “Vote Loki.”
Frog Thor
A frog resembling Thor is shown in a jar labeled “T365.” Wouldn’t you know it, Thor #365 is the issue where Loki transforms Thor into a frog. Yes, it was a whole thing. Walt Simonson’s run on the Thor comics is really spectacular.
“Frog Thor” also got a mention in Thor: Ragnarok, during the “play within the movie” seen as “Loki” apologized to “Thor” for turning him into a frog.
You know, there’s even an independent wrestler with a Thor Frog gimmick. Life is beautiful sometimes.
Classic Loki
So it appears that Classic Loki is basically what would have happened if “our” Loki survived the opening of Avengers: Infinity War, which he did by allowing Thanos to kill a duplicate while he disguised himself as some debris. Classic Loki went into hiding and developed a taste for brighter greens and yellows, and aged into Richard E. Grant, before he was pruned by the TVA and found himself here in the Void.
Classic Loki’s line about “the god of outcasts” comes from 2019’s Loki #5, by Daniel Kibblesmith and Andy McDonald:
“I am Loki. God of outcasts. They see themselves in me. And I in them. All of us, alone together. It’s why my stories always end with someone trying to put me in a box. And begin with my spectacular escape.”
Later in the episode, Classic Loki and Kid Loki literally “exit stage right,” in what feels like a very deliberately “stagey” moment that plays on the Shakespearean overtones of all of this.
The Living Tribunal
On the ground in the Void there’s a large severed head…and it’s that of The Living Tribunal, a cosmic entity created by Stan Lee and Marie Severin back in 1967. The presence of a Living Tribunal (even one who is dead at this present time), whose entire purpose for being is predicated on the existence of a multiverse, means that the TVA is trying very hard to cut all ties and any evidence of the fact that the multiverse is already out there.
U.S.S. Eldridge
The USS Eldridge was a real Cannon-class destroyer in the U.S. Navy in use from 1943 to 1992. It was supposedly sold for scrap after it was decommissioned but Loki posits that perhaps it was an unwanted Variant in the Sacred Timeline. Perhaps this is because the ship was rumored to be subjected to the “Philadelphia Experiment” that was supposed to render it invisible to the human eye. The story is sadly probably a hoax.
There’s a not exactly great 1984 movie called The Philadelphia Experiment which adds time travel to the equation, making this little callback even more Loki appropriate.
Is That Stan Lee?
At about 9:38 there’s a mural in the TVA headquarters. On the right there’s a guy in prescription shades, with a familiar moustache and salt-and-pepper hair. We’re not saying that’s Stan Lee, but…
The Castle
Yes, we know, that ominous castle sure looks like Doctor Doom’s  home of Doomstadt, but…it’s probably not (or is it?). More likely, this is Castle Limbo, home of Kang the Conqueror (or…is it?).
We unpacked these possibilities some more here.
The Music
The “heroic Loki” theme at the end sounds like it’s about to break into Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries.”
Speaking of, the regular Loki theme is very similar to the part of the Delfonics “Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love)” that was sampled for Missy Elliott’s “Sock It To Me.” The original (also sampled for the Fugees’ “Ready or Not” and Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E.”) was about the inevitability of love, and Missy’s song was about sneaking into somebody’s house to get your back blown out, so basically the same thing. Could have some bearing on Loki and Sylvie’s story.
The music that plays during the “Loki brawl” is this show’s equivalent of Scooby-Doo chase music. That’s a good thing, by the way.
Pixar, is that you?
Was that the Pizza Planet truck? Mobius’s ride, a station wagon with a slice of pizza on top, immediately brought to mind the popular Pixar easter egg/elaborate timeline mcguffin that has appeared in every Pixar movie to date. Also, very nice touch having Lightning McQueen himself drive it.
An even nicer touch is the license plate on the car Mobius is driving: GRN W1D. As in “Gruenwald.” As in (say it with us, kids!) Mark Gruenwald, the Marvel writer and editor who Mobius is based on.
Ant-Man
At one point on the ground in the Void we can spot a gigantic Yellowjacket helmet. Yellowjacket is the codename for several size-shifting superheroes in the Marvel Comics, but is best known to MCU fans as Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross from the first Ant-Man flick.
Guardians of the Galaxy
There’s lots of crashed spacecraft, one of which kind of looks like the Dark Aster (Ronan the Accuser’s ship in Guardians of the Galaxy), and there may be a Helicarrier hanging around. There’s also a flying saucer that vaguely resembles the ship from John Carpenter’s The Thing, and a pirate ship that if Doctor Doom were actually the villain of this show (he isn’t…or…is he?) would make us think of that character’s very first appearance in Fantastic Four comics, where he sent Ben Grimm back in time to become Blackbeard. No, really.
Miscellaneous Time Variants
The fate of the Lokis is reminiscent of What If? #12, otherwise known as What If the X-Men Had Stayed in Asgard? At the end of the story, after tasting defeat yet again, Loki begged Those Who Sit Above in Shadow to allow him to rule Asgard. They agreed by sending him far into the future at the end of time. As reality started to break down, Loki went out laughing in the face of oblivion.
The bus ad at the beginning is for Calum Ross, who is an editor on the show.
The shot of all the Lokis walking as the camera swoops overhead is very much reminiscent of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies.
Loki and Sylvie are cold in The Void. But wait a minute, aren’t they both Frost Giants? Why then would Loki conjure a green blanket? Unless he wants a convenient excuse to cuddle up with his Variant…
Loki is drinking “RoxxiWine” pinot noir…out of a box…which is a nice touch.
Is that weird, very large plant in the bowling alley hideout supposed to be a Variant Yggdrasil? Or wait…what if that’s Plant Loki?!? He’s green, isn’t he?
Next to Alligator Loki’s kiddie pool there’s a copy of The Mystery and Lore of Monsters, a 1930 book by Charles J.S. Thompson.
The tower we all keep thinking is Avengers Tower is in fact Qeng Tower, the headquarters of Qeng Enterprises, the company that Tony Stark (mistakenly) sold the old Avengers tower to in the comics.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Spot anything we missed? (Probably, right?) Let us know in the comments!
