It was during their comeback showcase and of course, Mark participated in writing and composing some of their songs, one of them being a love song. The host seems to like the love song the most, even though it's a side track. "By any chance, were you inspired when you composed this song?" the host asked. The Dreamies are teasing him left and right while Mark only laughed but he was a blushing mess! especially when it's confirmed that he's in a private relationship with a non-celebrity. "Of course, I mean, she's my muse behind the song." Mark commented. 

Huang Renjun

Coincidentally, before their comeback, Renjun was confirmed to be dating a non-celebrity! It received a positive feedback from the public that's why during their showcase, he was asked about his relationship. Everyone was intrigued by Renjun's relationship but he only smiled, thinking about you who's on the backstage, watching it from live tv. "Well, it's nice to have someone who can support me in every way, and of course! I will also be supporting her no matter." Renjun answers, and then glancing at the camera and smiling once more. 

Lee Jeno

"Excuse me Jeno-ssi, but you look more happy lately," the host commented randomly. Everyone glanced at Jeno who's only sitting and smiling widely, as if he was in a good mood. "Of course he's happy lately, his girlfriend is watching him at the moment," Haechan teased, making the whole atmosphere more lively. Jeno received a lot of teasing from his members but he seems to be more happy because he is being teased because of you. "Of course, I'm very happy to have someone who gives me love and support." Jeno said, glancing at you who's at the very back of the place. You were wearing a cap and glasses to hide your identity, you gave him a small wave and in return, he gives you a wink. 

Lee Donghyuck

"Perhaps you can tell us more about your girlfriend Haechan-ah?" the host requested. Haechan lowers his head embarrassed, he knew that this is going to happen since his relationship with you was announced a few weeks before their comeback showcase. "I'm so embarrassed, but she's lovely and nice. She's also supportive and she's also close with my family," Haechan answers with a proud smile, he then glances at the camera. "You're watching me at the moment right?" he teased, and from your apartment flat, you only laughed at your boyfriend's antics. 

Na Jaemin

"This one is for Jaemin-ssi, seems like you're not available for the single ladies out there," everyone burst into laughter when the host spoke. Jaemin was smiling, knowing that it's about his relationship which was confirmed a few months ago. "So everyone is curious, what's special about your girlfriend that she had captivated you?" the host asked. "Oh, if I tell you about it, it might be whole speech," Jaemin wittingly answered, making the host laugh. 

Zhong Chenle

"This comeback is special for us. Our members put a lot of effort in this one, so we hope that it can receive lots of love. It's a side of Dream that we never show, so I hope you like it," Chenle professionally said. As he looked at his Dreamies, they urged him to continue talking. "Also, I would like to thank our fans, the staff, and everyone who made this comeback possible." "Is there someone who you want to thank personally Chenle?" the host asked randomly. Chenle only chuckled, knowing that the host was talking about you. The Dreamies insisted that he do it, that's why Chenle stared at the camera and smiled, "And to you, thank you for giving me strength." 

Park Jisung

"Jisung-ssi, I heard that you're dating someone?" the host blurted out. Jisung was surprised with the question, but was quick to be embarrassed by it. The Dreamies started teasing their maknae who tried his best to calm down. "Since today is your comeback, did you received a lot of support from her?" Jisung was able to calm himself before proceeding to answer the question. "Of course, she heard the album already and she likes it! She said that she'll support NCT Dream no matter what."

the strains of your love with donghyuck were like melodies intertwined, harmonising in a delicate dance that echoed through the chambers of your heart. 

in the early days, when the world was still painted in the vibrant hues of new beginnings, donghyuck was a beacon of light amidst the shadows, a steadfast presence that anchored you in the storm. he would surprise you with small gestures of affection, leaving notes scattered like breadcrumbs for you to follow, each one a whispered promise of his love. and on lazy sunday afternoons, he would whisk you away on impromptu adventures, exploring the hidden corners of the city with the enthusiasm of a child.

it was the little things that spoke volumes, the moments that lingered in the quiet spaces between your heartbeats. he would wrap you in his embrace when the world grew too loud, holding you close until the storm passed and the world fell silent once more. and when the weight of the world threatened to crush your spirit, he would be there to lift you up, his laughter a beacon of hope in the darkness, his smile a reminder that even in the depths of despair, there was still beauty to be found.

donghyuck's days were consumed by the relentless rhythm of idol life, each moment dictated by schedules and obligations that left little room for rest or respite. as the pressure mounted with each impending nct comeback, you watched as the lines etched themselves deeper into his brow, the weight of the world pressing down upon his shoulders like an unyielding burden. hell, sometimes he would even come back home smelling like smoke and alcohol.

you tried to be understanding, to offer him solace in the midst of the storm, but the distance between you grew with each passing day, a silent chasm that widened with every unspoken word.

but even as you watched him slip further from your grasp, you remained steadfast in your love, a beacon of hope amidst the encroaching darkness.

and so, you stood by his side, offering your silent support as he navigated the treacherous waters of fame and fortune. you bore the weight of his problems as if they were your own, sacrificing your own needs for the sake of his dreams. you buried your fears beneath layers of forced laughter and fleeting kisses, clinging to the fragments of a love that seemed to slip further from your grasp with each passing day.

but in the end, it was not enough to bridge the growing chasm between you, to mend the shattered fragments of a love that had once burned bright. for even the strongest hearts can falter beneath the weight of expectation, and even the most resilient souls can be broken by the harsh realities of life.

the nights were the hardest, when the silence wrapped around you like a suffocating embrace, suffused with the weight of unshed tears and shattered dreams. you would lie awake, listening to the steady rhythm of donghyuck's breathing beside you as he slept facing away from you, wondering if he could hear the silent cries of your heart breaking into a million pieces.

and he could.

he turned around to face you. as he stared at your face, puffy and laced with tears, he uttered the words that shattered the fragile illusion you had clung to for so long.

"hey… i can't do this anymore," donghyuck confessed, his voice barely a whisper as he turned away from you, unable to meet your gaze any longer. "i thought i could, but… my heart isn't in it anymore."

the words hung heavy in the air as you laid next to each other, each syllable a dagger that pierced your already wounded heart. you wanted to scream, to beg him to stay, but the words caught in your throat, suffocated by the weight of your love for him.

a single tear fell from donghyuck's eye, a silent testament to the love that had once bound you together, now lost to the winds of time. "i'm sorry," he whispered, his voice laced with a pain that mirrored your own, as he wiped the tears off your cheeks. "i-i never meant to hurt you…"

but the apology offered no solace, no balm for the ache that consumed you from within. for in that moment, you realised that love was not always enough to mend what had been broken - that sometimes, even the strongest bonds could be eroded by the passage of time.

you entered the room quietly and watch the last steps of the choreography that they were putting up for the next comeback. you knew mark was really worried and anxious about the new song coming out, and you wanted to support him and show him you were there for him since he wasn't acting like him lately.

the grip on the bag took hold when jeno spot you first and then alerted mark of your arrival. he then came closer, his eyes glued on the bag in your hands.“i bring...” you start to say before he interrupts you “you didn't have to” his voice cutting you off. “i still wanted to” you finished, your eyes catching a drop of sweat running down his temple. your fingers going instinctively to wash it out. you stopped then and brush his hair, tenderly. his face suddenly pulling out of your reach. a small sigh leaving his lips, the same lips you haven't kissed in weeks. “i'll take this” he said, “i'm working til midnight, don't wait for me” added, before going back to the members.

he didn't even looked at you. not once, before you left the practice room.

The sound of keys caused your hands to start sweating. you saw renjun stripping off his sweater and taking out his shoes. it took him a few minutes to notice you, in the middle of his room, holding a birthday cake. “happy birthday to you” you sang, watching him smile briefly. the smile never came to his eyes, as he approached you and blew out the candle on the top of the cake. “are you gonna cut it?” you asked, putting the cake on his side table. “i already had cake” he said, “in the company” added.

“oh” was the only thing you could say. “i understand,” you said, watching him looking for something in his closet. “uh, i also have a gift” you remembered, taking out a wrapped box from your bag. you waited patiently for him to finish his work before he approach you. “more paint” he announced. his tone making you feel that you took a wrong decision. “i'm sorry, i just heard you complaining that you run out of paint, so i” “jaemin bought me some” he answered. he stared at the box of paints for a few seconds before taking it from your hands and leaving it somewhere in his closet.

“look, i'm heading out now, some friends invite me to drink beer, feel free to stay as long as you want, alright?” he said, before leaving you in his room. without kissing goodbye.

jeno wasn't paying attention to you talking about your day at work. instead, he was immersed in his phone. he didn't even realize when you stopped talking and remained silent. he wasn't there with you for a long time ago. days. weeks. months.

“jeno” you called, receiving a simple murmur under his breath. “i was telling you about my day” you remembered him, watching him fix himself on the sofa and letting out a sigh. “what's the matter?” he genuinely asked, “it's always the same” you nodded, spacing out, before getting up and heading the farthest place in the room. “today was different,” you said, as he went back to his phone, “a guy asked me out”.

“really?” he asked, making you feel stupid because of the blank expression on his face. “what made him notice you?” blurp out. you looked at him incapable of saying a word. “i mean, i'm sure there are good-looking women in your workplace, so why you, among the others?” asked. you remained silent, fearing your voice would be the one to betray you first. “mhm?” he insisted.

“i don't know, jeno”

he got up from the sofa, and went across the living room.

“me neither”

“shit” you heard him muttered while gaming. sitting beside him, you reached out his neck and caressed his hair. if he noticed you didn't know. he was consumed by the screen, paying little to no attention to you. for four hours. you had work tomorrow and it was almost midnight. feeling a little upset because haechan were ignoring you since you arrived.

“hae, it's almost midnight, i have to go” you whispered to him, receiving a small nod. “can you drive me home?” you asked, hoping you could spend some time with him on the way home. he stood up without warning and went to his closet. “i need to take a shower, can't you ask for a taxi?” he said, turning his back to you. you then, approached him from behind. “what is it?” you asked, catching him off guard when you hugged him.

he broke the hug when he turned, facing you. “i wanted to spend time with you, but you haven't even talked to me” he rolled his eyes at your words. “don't be dramatic, yn” he pronounced, walking past you. you stopped him in the way, "just... promise me that it's nothing”

he took a moment as if he was trying to spill the words. “promise” as if he was trying to find a reason to not break it.

jaemin arrived the moment you decided it was enough waiting for him. and when he saw your face, you realized that you weren't worth it even for a lame excuse. “i forgot”.

the silence filling the places where you would be upset, and angry. your mouth filling with words that won't leave your lips. because it was enough. no explanation. no remorse. the blank stare you were giving at each other was enough. there wasn't love anymore. and you have to let it go. you have to let him go.

“i think we should...” he started. “we should” you cut him off. the food was cold, the wine warm. and your relationship ended a long time ago. “i deserve to know” you said, stopping at the doorway, “you fell in love with someone else?” your voice trembling at the end of the sentence. fearing the answer, but wanting to know it. so you could end it. so you could let your heart shatter finally.

“i did” two words were enough, two words caused you to die that day, but jaemin didn't notice it, no one did, for a long time.

SOOYOUNG’S COMEBACK LIVE :: LOVE, SHHH!

ON JULY 17TH, 2022, SM went LIVE to introduce their very own, SOOYOUNG’S, comeback! the live was a total of ONE HOUR, with exclusive performances of LOVE, SHH, a cover of WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM?, and a never seen before duet between SOOYOUNG and JAEMIN.

ABOUT THE COMEBACK LIVE!

this live was the very first live performance of LOVE, SHH — sooyoung’s new song! sooyoung performed on a small stage, with a lighted heart behind her and all girls back up dancers! her outfit for this performance was the second from the left as pictures of above, with an adorable pink bow in her hair!

after the performance, sooyoung waved and thanked the viewers for watching her performance, smiling and winking into the camera. “thank you all for watching and supporting! I worked really hard to give you all this song - and I hope you love it as much as I do!”

“It’s a little weird for me to be on this stage by myself - i’m so used to being standing next to my members…i’m not used to having to do all the talking by myself…” sooyoung giggled. (our introverted queen)

“Is it okay if I invite some close friends?” OF COURSE SOOYOUNG ANYTHING FOR YOU 🥺

and on cue, renjun and jaemin walk in, both acting as if they are starstruck of sooyoung (they are so REAL for that!)

jaemin has a small square box in his hands, and sooyoung looks at him quizzically, “what’s in your hands there? i told you no gifts…” jaemin only pouted and said “we couldn’t resist! we had to get you something for your big debut!” sooyoung only laughed and shook her head, slightly blushing at jaemin’s sweetness. “go ahead, open it sooyoungie!” renjun pleaded, nudging the girl forward. sooyoung looked at the camera and counted down to three, smiling widely when she saw a cake in the box. “a cake! this is beautiful! nctzen’s, look at this!”

ISNT IT ADORABLE! in the middle it says “SHH, WE LOVE SOOYOUNG!” we love you jaemin and renjun 🫶

“did you guys go out and buy this by yourselves?” sooyoung asked, gasping when jaemin and renjun nod in affirmation. “this is beautiful! you guys did a great job picking this out!” sooyoung said, giving both of them a hug once they set the cake down.

“can we have some?” sooyoung asked, looking over at the staff, clapping when they quickly brought over plates and forks. “oooh, chocolate raspberry? my favorite cake! this looks so yummy!” sooyoung squealed, smiling widely at jaemin and renjun.

“i told you chocolate raspberry was her favorite! but no, you swore up and down it was strawberry.” jaemin joked at renjun, who only rolled his eyes. “i’m telling you, her favorite is strawberry, she begged for it for weeks last year!”

sooyoung swallowed and looked over at renjun sadly, “renjun is partly right - strawberry was my favorite…but after my birthday party i got sick - it was because i ate half of that cake but…i’ve been too traumatized to eat it since.”

renjun frowned, “i was with you all day, i never knew this happened.” sooyoung patted him on the shoulder and said, “i didn’t tell anyone because i was too embarrassed. jaemin conveniently walked in on…you know. so since then i decided chocolate raspberry is my safe favorite.” 

“i told you i’m great at keeping secerts!” jaemin exclaimed. sooyoung only shook her head and continued to eat her cake, the three of them sitting on the pink stools prepared for them. sooyoung in the middle, renjun on the left and jaemin on the right.

once they all finished their cake, renjun and jaemin started asking sooyoung questions about her song!

JAEMIN: “so, sooyoung, this makes your first ever solo song! tell us about how it felt like to record a song all by your own!”

SOOYOUNG: “it was such an exciting and thrilling experience for me! i’ve been writing songs ever since i was around…thirteen? and i have helped write quite a few songs for nct dream, but I can proudly say that I pretty much wrote this entire song by myself! it’s completely my own and designed just perfectly to fit me! i couldn’t do it without my lovely producer, though! it was so much fun to discover my own sound with her! but it did get lonely, i missed getting to watch everyone record and see all your lovely smiles while i recorded. jaemin came to visit me one day in the studio, it was super sweet!”

JAEMIN: “i brought her snacks and coffee…that’s the only reason she was happy to see me, don’t let it fool you.”

SOOYOUNG: “noooo, that’s not true!” *shakes jaemin gently* “why do you tell stories like that?!” *smiles and shakes her head* “but i did kick him out when i had to get back to recording. i was nervous about you all hearing it at first - i worked so hard on this song, and i’ll admit it, when i finally let all of dream listen to it, i cried.”

RENJUN: “she did. all over my sweatshirt.” *laughs* “when I watched the MV for this first time - i loved al of your outfits because they all fit you so well. and the outfit you are wearing now, it’s so adorable and definitely screams sooyoung. i heard a rumor that you helped design your outfits, is this true?”

SOOYOUNG: “it is so weird to hear renjun be nice to me.” *giggles and pats renjun’s shoulder* “and that is true! i got a drawing pad and drew out some outfits, and i piled together a moodboard for my styles and presented it to my lovely stylist, taylor! and she loved it! she let me tag along when she was picking out the pieces, and it was a experience i’ll never forget. i got so involved in everything, and i learned so so much.”

JAEMIN: “sooyoungie! your phone is ringing! you better go get it!”

sooyoung laughed and ran off stage, smirking at the camera.

while sooyoung was gone, a few blooper scenes from the mv of LOVE, SHH was shown on the screen, jaemin and renjun narrating it and laughing at sooyoung’s clumsiness.

RENJUN: “it looks like sooyoung is finally back, and she it looks like she has something else for you all!”

and with that, the lights dimmed, renjun and jaemin left stage, and sooyoung resumed the stage, behind her mic stand, in a brand new outfit!

all throughout the performance jaemin and sooyoung just looked at each other every other second and their eyes were just filled with pure LOVE for eachother

sooyoung started crying at the end, and jaemin just smiled so lovingly towards her, SHE MELTED. she sang all through the tears, her voice cracking slightly </3

when it was over, jaemin immediately engulfed her into a hug, laughing when sooyoung hid her face in his chest

“our emotional sooyoungie,” jaemin cooed, resting his chin on sooyoung’s head.

sooyoung eventually came out of jaemin’s hug, waving and smiling through her tears at the camera.

“thank you so much for watching, nctzens! i hope you enjoyed this gift from jaemin and i…and stay tuned for when we release this gem!”

“make sure to support sooyoung with her single, “LOVE, SHH!”, cheer and love her for me!” jaemin said, and with that, sooyoung and jaemin waved goodbye, blowing kissed towards the camera.

at the same time though, he’s probably the one that’s the most “genuine” on camera? he does whatever he wants, so he doesn’t feel a need to fake a parasocial relationship with fans or craft a work persona. this is both a managerial nightmare and a dream-come-true, but we fuck w it here

nagi livestreams all his gaming sessions. sometimes he’ll set up an among us room to play with his fans (cough nct taeyong cough). he falls asleep all the time whenever he isn’t actively performing, so fans will sometimes play “where’s waldo” with nagi whenever another member is filming stuff backstage.

he’s also RIPPED so like people will sometimes ask him to show his abs and he’ll be like :X before yanking his shirt up. he doesn’t get why people ogle over him, but hey, it gets his bills paid so who is he to complain

karasu’s a rapper. i think the visual of him leaning back in his studio while working on songs is sooooooo hot. bonus points if we get pictures of his hands n stuff

hiori joins nagi in on gaming. he livestreamed him dying his hair once. it was just him, god, and his truckload of fans in a cramped ass bathroom while he wrapped his head in foil and sat on top of the toilet.

he’s also the one that gets the brightass neon hair each comeback. u know the song’s abt to slap when hiori shows up looking like the froot loops mascot 🗿

chigiri’s sister won’t quit airing out chigiri’s dirty laundry, and it drives him insane. it also drives him crazy when people thirst after his sister. also i think his fancams wld go the most viral just bc he’s very pretty, and i think he’d be fairly reasonable with fanservice

although he does get pretty snappy sometimes, so it’s a delicate balance finding what he’s in the mood for. the hair stylists love dressing him up since he’s one of the less fussy members (thanks to how much his sister used to dress him up when he was younger)

aryu practices english with his fans! he’ll attempt interviews, posts, and livestreams entirely in english to learn, and he’ll do his best to correct his mistakes :) everyone’s very supportive of him, even when he’s rambling about his latest hair styling tips in broken english and bits of japanese

also because he’s so fucking tall, he solos everyone whenever those idol sports competitions come around. his long limbs are lethal, and people will thirstpost about him violently. he’s also very fashion-forward, so he collaborates often with the styling team about the group’s concepts and outfits!

ISAGI’S THE MEOWMEOW OF THE GROUP!! he’s trying his hardest and always delivers. he’s also down horrendous for whatever noel noa is as an idol, and he’s practically begging for a collaboration every other tweet. poor boy nearly shits his pants whenever he sees noa at an awards shows or other big events

he got wrestled into a maid outfit once, but people loved it so much it became a key moment for the group. he doesnt mind it as much as people thought he would, but definitely wld prefer to dress up in other costumes for once. barou’s also an extremely talented performer, often shining the most when he gets solo performances over group collaborative ones.

niko is literally junji from onlyoneof 🧍he also strikes me as the kind of guy to rock eboy fashion? he absolutely eats up any dark concepts!! he kinda detests cute concepts, but unlike rin (who’ll throw hands w his management), niko kinda learns to grin and bear it

niko also composes his own songs! he’s a very self-made idol, and he’ll treat his fans to a snippet of his latest project every now and then (this is me trying to incorporate his special skills but idol version pt 2)! he’ll lock himself in his room for days on end during off seasons to compose, only coming out to use the bathroom and eat at ungodly hours. other members sometimes drop by to bring him snacks and water

gagamaru’s a lil . unhinged to say the least . he does mukbang streams every once in a while, and it gives his management a stroke when it goes viral because he ate everything using his hands. he’s getting good at using utensils regularly, but hey, if his fans wanna see him stuffing his face in the way that makes him happiest, then who is he to upset them?

gagamaru also solos everything on idol sports shows. whenever he’s on one of those wilderness survival shows, he comes back out looking just the same as he did going in, if not better. he’s also so flexible that it drives every dancer in the industry green with jealous that they can’t control their body like he does. he’s still very sweet and humble though, so no one can really hate him since he’s just a big hunky goofball that does what he wants :]

he also has one hell of a gap between performing and being off stage, and he’s so goddamn charismatic that it feels like he’s a completely different person when he’s on stage. like he’ll be all smiley and sweet, and then he’ll go fucking feral just like isagi that it’s hard to believe he’s normally a soft-spoken gentleman whenever the cameras aren’t on him.

aiku gets into so many dating scandals that they dont even feel like a scandal anymore. everyone wakes up and is like “oh this is who he was fucking w this time” and moves on. good for him ig? at least he’s free on that end

sendou gets nervous talking to girl groups. he’s also really generous w fanservice and does gravure photoshoot bc he knows what its like to be a fan of them. good for him good for him!! go feed ur fans!!

sae def placed first on a previous season of bllk produce 101, which got rin inspired to become an idol. imagine the tension at awards shows OOF 💀 or the questions people post abt the brothers potentially collaborating for a comeback. sae also hates fanservice, but he goes out of his way to shut that shit down

kaiser is kpop’s ace!! there is nothing this bitch can’t do! he also refuses to cover up his tattoo and shows it off whenever he gets the chance. talks about wanting to get more in the future, but his management’s successfully keeping him restrained… for now.

ness wld be disturbingly good at cute concepts… it’s crazy how easily he can get people to fall for him with his easygoing charm, but the second people start talking smack abt smth he likes, he turns murderous. it’s always the adorable ones you need to watch out for. sometimes fans admit to liking him more than kaiser which usually throws him for a loop.

speaking of concepts, shidou devours dark concepts too! i feel like he’d make one hell of a vocalist, and he’s constantly hounding sae for a collab together. even his regular clothes are striking enough to be confused for a stage outfit, and he takes a lot of pride in keeping up his demonic aura (even though he lives for the thrill of performing more than anything else)

kunigami gives off such husband material vibes. baby gets invited to shows where he babysits kids, cares for pets, etc and everyone just ends up falling more in love with him. he’s so respectful about turning people down too like goddamn how is this boy real

nanase is 100% the maknae of the group. bonus points if he originally came from a nugu group that rose to a fair amt of popularity, and now he’s starstruck that he gets to interact w idols that he looked up to for so long

ego def used to be an idol before retiring and becoming a manager/head honcho behind blue lock’s produce 101. he hates the artificiality of idols and pushes the boys to become their own version of what they expect an idol to be like. hes also insane in this au too

anri is one of the biggest managers of the produce project! she’s the one behind the scenes, setting everything up! the boys are extremely grateful towards her, and she even has her own dedicated fanbase!

tokimitsu has bad stage fright, and his fans do their best to support him! they encourage him to do what makes him comfortable, and he promises to work hard to not let them down. he has one of (if not, the) strongest bond with his fans, and their interactions are super wholesome.

Growing up, you and Sunghoon were practically inseparable. Despite your different interests, you always found ways to spend time together, whether it was going to each other's practices or just hanging out at each other's houses. You would spend hours playing in Sunghoon's treehouse or having water fights in your backyard paddling pool.

Your parents even converted one of the fence panels between your yards into a doorway, so you could easily switch between each other's gardens whenever you wanted. Summers were spent camping in one of your backyards, building campfires and making s'mores.

As you both grew older, your paths diverged. Sunghoon focused on his figure skating and eventually joined an agency to become an idol. Meanwhile, you sustained an injury that prevented you from continuing with swimming, and you discovered a passion for fashion design during your recovery.

But when the pandemic hit, Sunghoon suddenly disappeared without a trace. You were worried sick and couldn't get in touch with him, until you saw a post on Instagram mentioning "I-Land" and featuring a picture of Sunghoon's face.

Of course, you had to support your best friend on this new survival show, seeing how much he had improved warmed your heart, especially when he finally made the final line up, and was one more step closer to his dreams. Now it was time for you to take a leap towards yours, just like he had.

You began applying for stylist jobs at different idol agencies, hoping that you could spend some time styling idols whilst studying fashion design at college, and beginning to create your own fashion runway collection one day.

After a couple of weeks searching for jobs, you finally received an offer from the one and only SM entertainment, styling for NCT Dream. Of course, you had to accept the job, it was one step closer to your dream.

However, it seemed as if you had underestimated just how stressful it was sometimes styling an idol group, with all the award shows and comebacks, particularly with a group like NCT Dream, who seemed to never stop.

It was at the 2022 Genie Music Awards, when you were running around like a headless chicken looking for the rest of the NCT Dream boys, having already styled Renjun, Jeno, and Haechan, the rest missing somewhere in the backstage area.

That was until you ran head first into a person, but it wasnt any random person.

It was Park Sunghoon.

However, you didn’t have much time to chat and catch up, due to trying to find the rest of the dreamies. That was however until Sunghoon, grabbed hold of your wrist, and placed a piece of paper in it.

When you finally got back to the dressing rooms, with rest of the boys, you sat down and looked at the paper Sunghoon had handed to you. It warmed your heart what Sunghoon had wrote on the piece of paper…

질문⠀say.. are kihyun and 127 close at all?

정답⠀127 are, for KIHYUN, the older brothers he never knew he needed. they’re the ones he might’ve been a little (alright, maybe far more than a little) afraid of at first but now feels completely comfortable to talk and mess around and laugh with. if he has a problem that one of his own members aren’t around to help with, or if he feels he needs some guidance a member of his own can’t give, then 127 is where he’ll naturally turn. they’re his role models, strong pillars of support that he looks up to wholly. while with DREAM he still feels he has some degree of responsibility (with jisung being the youngest), when KIHYUN’s with 127 he feels he can let loose a little more.

태용 & 기현⠀───⠀KIYONG

kihyun was terrified of taeyong,  point blank.  the leader of the whole of the group—practically the face of NCT itself—and kihyun—just little kihyun in the corner,  most likely not even a blip on taeyong’s radar—being friends wasn’t something he ever envisioned happening.  he imagined it would stay a coworkers-only relationship for as long as the group remained active,  in the worst case scenario.  but it wasn’t like he made any attempt to avoid him during their trainee days,  he just..  didn’t make the effort to strike up a conversation,  much more focused on doing things like staring at his shoes and wishing the ground would swallow him whole.  he stayed admiring from afar even if johnny & mark both told him repeatedly that if he just talked to him once and broke the ice their friendship would be instant.

they only,  like kihyun and yuta would also,  really got to know each other during EMPATHY—and,  like johnny and mark had both foretold,  got along perfectly.  taeyong treated him with as much love & affection as he did all his other dongsaengs,  and kihyun revelled in it,  feeling a little warm and special inside whenever the leader so much as said his name.  he felt that he had the proper neo stamp of approval now that they were friends, and couldn’t be happier about it. they could now commonly be seen walking around together arm-in-arm, gossiping about things they’d overheard from staff or whatever had gone on in the latest drama they’d both been watching, both taking selfies together and acting as photographer for their next instagram posts, and playing back-and-forth games of who could compliment the other the most.

although nowadays they only really see each in person other during whole-group comebacks & content, they’re still as affectionate as ever during those times (even more so, in fact, due to the longer period of time they would’ve been away from one another). they try to meet up for meals and little hangouts when they can manage, but more often than not they stick to texting and the occasional phone call, as well as mark or haechan dragging kihyun along to the bigger 127 meetups now and again so they get a chance to see each other. they have a neverending amount of support for one another (kihyun had never used the instagram story function more than when SHALALA came out, and whenever kihyun’s teasers drop for a DREAM comeback taeyong is similarly promoting it as much as possible) and are a pair that are much loved by everyone.

태일 & 기현⠀───⠀TAEKI

to say kihyun was intimidated by taeil when they first met would be the understatement of the year. even if he looks back on it now and laughs, tries to brush it off, he can’t escape the fact that he avoided the older vocalist like the plague back in his trainee years. it wasn’t that he found taeil scary, (because with a smile like that, it was hard to make anyone find him frightening) it was more that he was so in awe of his talent that he was unsure of how he was ever going to live up to it—or, if living up to it proved impossible (which at the time he was sure was the truth), how he was supposed to at least gain the older’s approval. it was a task he never saw being completed, the one hurdle he couldn’t manage to jump over. and so, he went to the one person he always did when he had a problem or worry he wanted to rant about: mark. who in turn just laughed and tweaked his ear and told him not to worry (and so, really, was no help at all).

it took a good while, (at least a month before the debut of 127) but they finally met properly in the place kihyun least wanted to—the recording studio. he was struggling with some of his CHEWING GUM lines, and taeil wandered into the wrong room by mistake. the older vocalist offered to help, even though the younger was sure he had a hell of a lot of stress on his own shoulders, and with the completely judgement-free & genuine way he offered kihyun felt he could do nothing but agree.

from there it was as simple as it had been with all the rest of kihyun’s friends. once the first hurdle was jumped, the rest was an easy sprint uphill. they didn’t become as close as kihyun was with the trainees closer to his own age, (namely mark, and later jeno & jisung—since renjun and chenle joined SM later, and he wasn’t as close to haechan or jaemin at that moment in time) but they’d escalated from kihyun either turning on his heel and running the other way when he saw taeil walking in his direction in the corridors or hiding behind whoever was next to him to kihyun instead greeting him with a happy exclamation of “hyung!” and taeil reciprocating his smile tenfold, always putting a hand on his head to ruffle his hair or arm around his shoulders when the younger ran up to him.

the closeness only grew over the years the more they interacted, and whenever they get the chance to meet up properly the younger vocalist is as clingy as can be. to this day kihyun still considers taeil as one of his icons, a role model. it might be a rarity, but every time fans get notice of a taeil-kihyun hangout there’s complete (but understandable) chaos.

영호 & 기현⠀───⠀HYUNHO

to the surprise of some, there was an instant spark between kihyun & johnny. there was a bit of a language barrier, (what with johnny’s korean not being 100% just yet, and kihyun himself struggling majorly with most english bar a few basic phrases) but they made do with their translator apps and the help of fellow trainees around them and bonded quickly, getting along like a house on fire despite the large age gap. they bonded over fashion, over shared music tastes, over dancing and singing, and over the fact that johnny knew some of the EXO members, which kihyun was most definitely normal about (not). they bounced jokes off of each other and laughed even if neither of them found them funny, messed around in empty practice rooms whenever they had the time; making choreographies up to their favourite songs even if they had no coordination in the slightest, and on occasion johnny even (attempted) to help kihyun with his homework (even if most of the time he either A) didn’t understand what the question meant, or B) could manage to understand, but wasn’t able to help anyway).

it’s obvious to most that johnny likes to dote on kihyun. whenever the two are in a group setting he’s sure to sling an arm around his shoulder or stick to his side the minute he’s able, eager to drag him off to the side so they can talk and he get caught up on what the younger’s been up to recently. he’s first to comment on all of his posts, overflowing with praise at all of his achievements, and happy to go along with whatever whims the younger has in mind. kihyun is pretty much exactly the same, always having compliments to spare whenever johnny’s name is brought up in conversation, sticking to him like an extra limb whenever they get to be together in larger group content, making a point to promote him better than the company at times whenever he’s had a solo schedule, and appointing himself as johnny’s ‘assistant fashion evaluator’ with pride and confidence—which, of course, johnny accepted immediately, stating there was no-one he’d rather have in the position.

fans love them, always looking forward to the next time kihyun’s going to feature a blurry half-shot of johnny’s smiling face in his next instagram dump from one of their outings, or when kihyun’s figure is going to be the one standing next to johnny’s in the thumbnail when the next jcc goes up. they’re a duo that’ll always make time for one another, always be there to support one another in whatever they decide to do, and that’s a fact that's hardly likely to change.

유타 & 기현⠀───⠀YUKI

yuta and kihyun’s relationship wasn’t a relationship at all for the first few years,  to put it plainly.  they never really had a one-on-one conversation,  never really had the time to properly get to know each other.   kihyun knew of yuta,  of course,  admired his talent both in itself and in the same way he admired all of the older trainees,  but he’d just never had the chance to properly convey that to him.  and it wasn’t like they were awkward—they never failed to spare a smile at one another when they passed each other in the corridors, always a warm greeting on their lips—they just weren’t..  close.  weren’t exactly friends in the same way kihyun was with most of the others.  and that was something kihyun wanted to eventually remedy,  even if he was a little intimidated by the older boy,  and even if yuta’s korean wasn’t still 100%,  and even if he himself could only just barely count to ten in japanese.

that  ‘remedying’  didn’t end up coming until 2018,  when they were preparing for EMPATHY as a whole group.  kihyun saw yuta standing off to the side,  taking a moment to himself,  and decided to wander over to join him.  they didn’t talk for a good ten minutes,  but after that kihyun finally mustered up the courage to pipe up with a compliment on what he’d seen of yuta’s dancing so far to break the ice,  and it was all uphill from there.  they found they bonded over a number of things—their love for dance,  love for singing,  love for football,  the list went on.  by the end of the day they’d finally properly exchanged numbers and promised to talk to each other more when they found the time.  conversations didn’t feel all that awkward even over text,  flowing easily and staying entertaining, and after a few weeks they were making plans to get dinner together  (or,  if neither of them wanted to go out,  to at least order in and meet up at one of their dorms and share the meal).

yuta is noted to be someone that brings out the calmer side of kihyun.  while they can both be the mood-makers when they want to be,  brightening up the room with their grand stories and naturally entertaining energy,  they can also be quiet and mellow when they want to be—and that usually happens whenever they’re together.  kihyun will quietly say hello to yuta and then sit and catch up with him,  no overexcitable and uncontainable personality in sight.  they’re again not a duo that people often see,  but the fleeting moments that are caught on camera are enough to remind everyone that they hold each other very dear in their hearts.

동영 & 기현⠀───⠀KIDO

again,  they weren’t a pair that talked to one another all that often.  it was passing greetings in the corridors,  polite nods and half-bows in the practice room and recording studios,  and barely any communication between them outside of that.  it wasn’t like there was any love lost between them—kihyun admired doyoung’s vocal talent greatly,  and hoped he’d reach somewhere near that level someday—it was just that they never quite found the time to get properly acquainted. 

that time came around the time that jeno did.  he was their sort of middle man, the mutual friend.  he was kihyun’s  (new,  again much to mark’s displeasure) favourite hyung and doyoung’s favourite dongsaeng,  so they were bound to come into contact soon after that.  and they did—with kihyun finally striking up the first conversation and breaking down the walls that had previously stood between them.  soon they were just as close as both of them were to jeno,  chatting and joking and smiling as easy as breathing in each other’s company.  doyoung coached him on a few vocal techniques and kihyun tried  (and failed,  even if he offered to do it when no-one else was in the practice rooms)  to get the older to dance with him more,  and altogether they just grew a lot closer than they originally had been.

they’re known for their tendency to play-fight for jeno’s affections, while the latter stays clueless and smiling throughout it all. they trade heartfelt compliments and glowing praise as well as snarky quips and light-hearted mocking comments (which doyoung complains kihyun got entirely from haechan, and that he’s a bad influence). they’re always in the likes and comments of each other’s posts, always quick to comment on any achievement of the other, always ready to sit and catch up over an evening meal and a drink or two—and kihyun is always ready to plead doyoung to dance with him, to which the older is even faster to decline the offer. if one is doing a live the other is sure to either join in the comments or physically if possible, and on the whole they’re a semi-rarely seen but still very real and supportive duo (although of course they—or just kihyun, really—have their teasing moments).

니코 & 기현⠀───⠀KIKO

much like with kihyun and johnny,  there was something of an immediate connection between him and niko.  while they again faced a little bit of difficulty with the language barrier,  their matching energies alone was enough to form the beginning of what would grow to be an incredibly strong bond over the years.  their starting points were making conversation through vague gestures and the few phrases they had in common in the other’s language,  nights after practice spent having fun dancing together and sharing song & artist recommendations while doing so,  and telling jokes that made the both of them crack up even if neither of them really got the punchline.  while to begin with they didn’t hang out all too much during their trainee days,  whenever they did see each other they were all smiles and laughter,  getting along like a house on fire.

as the years went on, while they didn’t see each other half as much as they did in the past, they only seemed to get closer.  they’d be glued to each other’s sides in any whole-of-NCT content, shower the other in praise at any given opportunity  (or occasionally without the opportunity,  and being completely unprompted),  and find ways to bring the other up in conversation even when they weren’t appearing in any content together.  fans were quick to dub them as a very much older-younger brother duo,  some even naming them  ‘father and son,’  titles the pair themselves even played into from time to time. niko is in running competition with johnny & jaehyun over who’s the favourite out of the three, even if on some days it’s blatantly obvious that he’s the winner by a mile (or maybe a half-mile, at the least). kihyun has repeatedly mentioned how thankful he is to have met niko, and it’s a sentiment he hopes is reciprocated.

they’re known now for their easy affection and easier teasing with one another,  their constant lives together or featuring of the other in whatever content they may be filming  (kihyun always finds a way to feature niko in his little vlogs,  even if it’s in a way as small as showcasing the ‘good morning~’  or  ‘eat well!’  text messages he’s usually been sent that day),  and how well they seem to bounce off of each other—especially in the performance aspect.  fans have been begging for a collaboration,  even if it’s something as small as a dance cover with them in the same room.  they’re a duo that’ll be together through thick and thin for long into the foreseeable future.

재현 & 기현⠀───⠀KIJAE

it was (surprisingly, to many people who hear the story) jaehyun who first approached kihyun in the practice room back in their trainee days. he thought the younger looked a little lost, and tried to strike up a conversation to lighten his mood. it worked, but it also had the consequence of kihyun deeming jaehyun someone safe to let loose around, and so he proceeded to practically stick to his side as much as he did mark, or johnny. not that jaehyun minded all that much—he found himself getting along well with kihyun, and enjoyed the company. they bonded over music, mostly, and jaehyun (like taeil would also do) helped kihyun with some vocal troubles & insecurities he was having. soon they were sharing headphones and sitting curled up in the corner of the practice rooms on their breaks, jaehyun holding back grins when kihyun saw him in the mornings and ran at him head-on to wrap him in a hug, and mark having to endure kihyun’s long rambles that consisted largely of “jaehyun-hyung’s so cool! and talented! and amazing!” day in and day out, to the point that he straight-up banned him from mentioning his name in any of their conversations (but soon lifted that ban after being faced with the pleading look kihyun would give him afterwards).

kihyun thinks of himself to be on a mission, one that intends to show the world that jaehyun is not the cold, stoic, serious member he's seemed to grow a reputation as. whenever they get the chance to be in the same room he’s cracking jokes left right and centre, egging jaehyun on and being overjoyed whenever he plays along and jokes right back. he’s also, similar to how he is with taeyong & johnny (and most of the other members, really) as supportive as he can possibly manage to be whenever the older has a solo schedule, complimenting him both over text and publicly for everyone to see (posting about it, mentioning it in passing if he’s on live, etc), and although it’s not often jaehyun does also try to bring up kihyun in whatever he's been featured in also. a known public (and light-hearted) on-going feud between them is kihyun trying to get jaehyun to follow him on instagram, although the older maintains that it would ruin the aesthetic he’s going for—much to kihyun’s displeasure.

kihyun is seen as someone who brings out the lighter side of jaehyun with ease whenever they’re together, making him disregard the stoic act in a heartbeat. they’re a back-and-forth sort of duo, bickering even when they’re attached at the hip with both arms around one another. the younger boy will call him cool and then say he’s approaching thirty at frightening speed in the same breath, and jaehyun can do nothing but laugh. a fan-favourite duo for sure, and everyone is waiting for the day when they drop a duet or finally do a live together, as they’ve neglected to do either for years.

while it was a mutual want to get to know each other, it was jungwoo who made the first move and introduced himself—but in kihyun’s defence, it happened only a minute or so before he hyped himself up enough to do it first. they were just as high-energy as one another and made for an ever-lively duo, making dumb jokes to lighten the mood when it occasionally got tense from all the pent-up frustration a lot of them were holding in or simply just to make people laugh. jungwoo was commonly one to sneak out of the company and take kihyun with him, the two ending up in a small hole-in-the-wall diner as they got serious for a while and talked over their respective worries and fears for the future, before putting it all behind them with a meal they could just barely pay for and walking back up to the dorms arm-in-arm, stomachs full and with wide smiles on their faces.

the bond stayed strong (and grew, even) over the years, and they took every chance they could find to hangout together—usually ending up in the diners they frequented in their trainee years, or a noraebang where they both took turns belting out lyrics to their favourite songs as loud as they could (and teaming up to sing even louder in duets), or occasionally a bar they were confident they wouldn’t get caught in (although the latter option was rare, seeing as it normally ended in kihyun having to practically drag jungwoo back home again even after the older had confidently stated he’d be the one to outdrink the younger that night). they’re constant features in each other’s posts, and definitely a duo to be reckoned with in whole-group content—always riling everyone else up to the best of their ability while hyping themselves up at the same time.

they’re just as close as ever nowadays, likely to be seen together whenever they’re able to, and talking & laughing all the while. the scarce lives they hold together are full of conversations populated with whatever topics come into their heads, attempting to teach other english phrases even if neither of them are native speakers (which usually results in one of them calling on johnny, mark, jaehyun, or niko for help), and impromptu just dance routines to music one of them is playing over their speakers. they’re a duo that’ll never be seen without a smile on their faces when they’re together, and that’s something fans hope won’t change for a long while.

SM Rookies

I've watched a lot of NCT content (mostly 127 related), more than most fans, but there are still gaps. I'm not a geek type of a person, I don't need to know absolutely everything about something I enjoy. I covered the basics (all MVs, all albums, the beginning, the pre-debut info, etc) and left the rest to "when I have time and mood".

As 127 slowed down with their content releases, the last unit was formed to wrap up the NCT project, and the military era is upon us, now I have the motivation to catch up with the past.

I generally know SMRookie era, but I haven't watched the programmes (Rookies and EXO, Disney Micky Mouse club). I'll start with a recap. (There are fandom Wiki-s, so google for more details yourself)

SMRookies. The idea was launched in 2013. And it was still kind of alive during the introduction of new neos. Shotaro and Sungchan were promoted in the same manner (promotion without being in a fixed unit), and NCT Wish went though the preparatory period like old neos did with SM Rookies Show (small venue concerts around Japan with song covers to practice working on the stage and gather first supporters).

In a sense. The Rookies system is like SM's own idol survival show. K-pop fans get to know the trainees, watch them perform, but the debut of the participants isn't guaranteed. The system is probably obsolete by now. The field of k-pop and promotional tactics have changed. NCT Wish might be the last who participated in it. The new gg which should debut in 2024 will show.

Rookies were introduced in groups over a few years.

2013

December 2nd, SM announced Seulgi, Taeyong, Jeno. 

December 9th - Irene, Jaehyun, and Lami.

December 16th - Hansol, Mark, and Jisung.

December 23th - Johnny, Yuta, and Ten.

Lami and Hansol didn't make it as idols. Lami started as a child actress and is now also listed as an actress signed to SM. Hansol left SM, debuted with Newkidd, he finished the military and is now teaching dance in Australia. He says he will comeback to Korea, he is on a break (Newkidd has been on a prolonged hiatus, Hansol clings to his dream, but I doubt anything will pan out in the future).

Hansol's case was always curious to me. He was a part of the A-team and SM Rookies, i.e. he was chosen by SM, and yet he is the only one who didn't end up in NCT. I think Shohei will repeat his fate. Other neos greet him on music award shows, but can't talk about him in NCT content and lives. He was erased.

Why he never made it? He wasn't the best of the best. He was only a dancer, he was tall and handsome, but there were no spots left for him in 127. And he couldn't debut with WayV as a Korean after the Chinese ban on Korean celebreties performing in the country. Johnny had English and ties to US, Yuta had ties to Japan, Jungwoo could sing and was more charming, Sungchan (very much the same idol type, I think) was younger.

Still, was it a problem to add him to 127 together with JohnDo? He wasn't popular enough? SM didn't see a potential after a trial period? He was liked by everyone, it's hard to imagine there being a conflict with other neos.

Frankly, watching the content with him, I don't think NCT lost anything. He doesn't have the spark. Evenso, it is still a lesson of how unpredictable the path to success can be.

The Rookies introduced in 2013 (only the hyung line) + Taeil + Yong Ju performed on SMTown week show (Hansol in red). Another performance.

Yong Ju left on his own very soon. He wasn't interested in NCT concept. Never became an official Rookie.

The difference between Taeil's and Doyoung's first stages is also interesting to me. Both are the "glee club boys", who joined an idol agency to be able to sing, who always were rivals during trainee days as top vocalists. However, Doyoung joined later (wasn't ready for SMTown), was kept hidden, and was introduced as an MC. Different set of talents, different time, different approach at promotion. (Do came in with the experience of student body vice-president and all his talkative skills).

2014

March 19th - Wendy

July 17 - Donghyuk (later Haechan)

The officially introduced Rookie batch was promoted here and there. A site was launched, Rookies did short YT introductory videos. Solo performances were uploaded as well. (you can find them all on SM main YT channel)

"TY track" Tae's moniker is thanks to his feature in an earlier Red Velvet song. As you see, RV and NCT were sister/brother group originally (it's more of aespa/NCT now, lol). The connection allowed for stages like Tae+Seulgi.

Most importantly, the lore of NCT began with Taeyong's "Open the door" on July 21st.

2015

January 15th - Doyoung

April 22th - Jaemin

July 9th - Koeun, Hina, and Herin

October 13th - Taeil

Instantly after introduction Do joined Jae for ShowChamp as MC for half a year.

Same as Taeil, Jaemin performed on SMRookies events prior to being officially announced as a Rookie. Taeil was removed from dances pretty early. The routines became difficult, the special videos showcased the dance line only. Kun's introducation (and his participation in Without U, Chinese version) meant LSM was serious about launching a Chinese and a Japanese unit soon after 127.

The girls participated in Micky Mouse club together with Dreamies, but none of them debuted with SM (Herin left early, but, it seems, Koeun and Hina waited for aespa, but weren't selected).

Koeun played alongside Jungwoo in Yesung's "Paper Umbrella" MV.

More of dance videos uploaded on YT. Ten&Jaehyun played in the Hope Basketball All-Star basketball games and Yuta replaced Minho at MBC Idol Star Games (football).

In August - first Rookies Shows. Every boy who had been introduced so far. + Taeil. Lol, they just forgot they hadn't officially debuted him and remembered postfactum. Does the ceremony have anything to do with contracts?

Here is where the first divide lies. Chenle, Renjun, WinWin are yet to join SM. Kun didn't participate. It's why Renjun wasn't close to Doyoung before NCT2020, why Ten is close to 127.

SMRookies show gave us Tende unit and the song "Timeless", as well as the TaeDo single (written by Tae) that later was released as "Lightbulb" in 2020 with additional neos on the track. If you ever wondered why in Japan Johnny gets birthday cakes in the form of a fish, it's because of "Under the sea".

2016

January 5th - WinWin

September 19th - Yiyang and Ningning

The first NCT lore videos (Origin, Synchronization of your dreams, 7th sense) were released Jan-Feb. Taeil released his famous "apada gwenchana" OST.

LSM really wanted a member to pull in Chinese audience, heh. WW got in SM late and was inserted in all promo material right away. Yiyang left SM and is in a Chinese idol group now.

Yuta participated in another football game. And got a magazine feature in April.

Ten wasn't forgotten. Thai magazine (scans and translation).

SMRookies finished last SMRookie shows in Thailand in February. SM was gearing up for NCT unit debuts in Spring and Summer.

Johnny played a DG set October 2016. By then he was already part of 127 (not officially). I'm making a point out of Yuta and Johnny's promotions because the fandom likes to say they never got anything.

Lucas, Jungwoo, Xiaojun, YangYang, Hendery, Seunghan, Eunseuk, Shohei. I think Sungchan and Shotaro skipped the phase as they debuted as part of NCT without prior introduction. Same as Chenle and Renjun.

So, to sum it up.

Practically all Rookie boys debuted. Didn't make it: Hansol, Shohei. Lucas and Seunghan debuted but were lost due to scandals. Shotaro and Sungchan relocated not just to another unit, but to another group.

The official NCT lore lost 4 dreamers (italics). This story isn't without its victims.

Half of the girls didn't make it. aespa has only 4 members afterall, heh. (seems like the new gg will have 8-9)

MARK

The rapper had brought you over to the Dream dorm for a movie night. You were hesitant at first because you didn’t want to intrude on his time with the Dreamies. But Mark knew his members loved having you around, so he convinced you it would be fine.

You relaxed quickly when the first movie started. The guys were spread out around the room, some on the couch and sitting on the floor. Mark and you claimed the spot at the end of the couch. 

While you seemed to be entranced in the movie, Mark couldn’t help but look back at you every so often. He didn’t know exactly what he was feeling, he just thought it was cute to see you so focused on what was happening on the screen.

Eventually, Mark got your attention and the two of you ended up having one of those couple-stare moments. Where you forgot his members were there, and it felt like he was just alone with you. 

Before you could calculate what was going to happen next, Mark moved in for a kiss. A million thoughts scrambled around your brain. You pushed them all aside and closed your eyes, letting his lips connect to yours.

Of course, the kiss didn’t last long. It was very sweet and sensual. But just as Mark’s hand found your hair, a gagging noise brought both of you back to reality. With wide eyes, you both turned to Chenle who was wearing a look of disgust.

“Seriously? On our couch?”

Quickly flustered by the situation, you looked down at your hands. Most of the members were asleep, but it was still embarrassing for both of you. Mark rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled nervously.

“Sorry—just got carried away I guess,” He mumbled. Chenle shook his head and turned his attention back to the television.

The two of you didn’t say anything for the rest of the movie. Mark made Chenle promise not to tell the others. But it would still take a while for the both of you to recover from what happened. You were definitely more careful to leave your affection for when you were together in private.

RENJUN

You were in the dressing room with your boyfriend, waiting for him to be called to go on stage any minute now. The singer picked up on the slightly worried look you were giving him. You could see his legs bouncing up and down on the make-up chair. 

“Are you okay? You seem a bit tense.”

He glanced over to you, letting out a huff. “I’m fine, it’s nothing really.”

This was the day you didn’t have school or work, so Renjun was grateful that you could come to support him. However, you being here, made him feel more nervous about performing than usual. But if he told you that, he was afraid you’d feel bad.

However, you and Renjun have been together for a while now. So you were able to tell if he was upset about something. You stood up from the couch to approach the boy.

“If this is about your comeback stage,” You said, lightly stroking his hair. “You’ve worked so hard for this, so there’s nothing to worry about. But no matter what, I’ll be proud of you.”

What you didn’t expect was to see Renjun’s eyes become watery. He got up from his chair to pull you in by the waist for a hug.“I needed to hear that, (Y/n)-ah. Thank you.”

“Oh, Renjun-i.” You broke away from the embrace, to quickly wipe his single tear before it ruined his makeup.

It was only natural for Renjun to kiss you at a time like this. You gave him the strength he needed. One of his hands rested on the back of your neck so that he could kiss you at a better angle.

But of course, the moment couldn’t last long. The two of you pulled away at the sound of Mark and Haechan’s voices. 

“Aigoo, our Renjun-i!” Mark awed. 

Your face flushed a bright pink color, realizing that his members must’ve seen everything. On the other hand, Renjun was annoyed that they had walked in.

Haechan swung his arm around the singer with a smug grin. “You guys are cute and all. But we’re on in two minutes.”

When Renjun sighed, you planted a kiss against his cheek. “You’ll do great. I know it!”

He was now wearing a smile, even though he was being led away by the two members.

“I love you (Y/n)-ah~!”

JENO

He was at your side, watching you cook kimchi fried rice for him and the guys. This dish was your specialty, so Jeno asked if you could teach him how you made it. Though he was curious, he just took the opportunity to get some alone time with you. 

Jeno’s eye smile appeared as he thought how it was cute how you were so focused on cooking. Your long hair was in a tight ponytail so that it wouldn’t get in the way. He watched as you used all your arm strength to mix the rice and other ingredients. 

A few minutes earlier, he offered to help you. But you insisted that he rest from his long week of schedule and you could handle things fine on your own. Jeno admired how you were considerate but maintained your independence.

“Now we just have to wait for the cheese to melt.” You placed the pot lid on the wok and lowered the heat. When you finally turned around, you then noticed the desirous look Jeno was giving you.

“What?” You laughed. Jeno smiled mischievously as he stepped closer, causing you to back away from the stove. The two of you stopped until your back was pressed against the kitchen island.

By the time Jeno circled his arms around your waist, you were already a flustered mess. He leaned in closer, noses almost touching. 

He chuckled and whispered, “You’re so adorable.”

Then he was kissing you. Softly at first, and slowly becoming more passionate. Your eyes were closed but your fingers found their way to be entangled in his hair. His grip on you tightened, as the kiss deepened.

“(Y/n)-ah, is the food almost ready?” Jaemin’s voice caused you to jump and immediately get away from each other. But your reactions were too late because Jaemin had already caught you two.

You and Jeno looked at the boy in horror, still trying to catch your breaths from the passionate kiss. Jaemin clapped his hands. “Oh, sexy~!”

While you stared at your boyfriend’s best friend in confusion, Jeno facepalmed. 

“Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt you guys,” Jaemin started to backtrack out of the kitchen. “But the children are hungry! So finish up soon.”

Once Jaemin was gone, the two of you turned to face each other with different expressions. “How could he be so cool?!” You asked.

Jeno sighed, “I should’ve known he’d be weird about it.”

Laughing now, you shook your head and returned to your previous station near the stove. “Well, dinner is ready now,” You said as you turned off the heat. “It’s a good thing Jaemin reminded us.”

Your boyfriend pouted and reached to give you a back hug. His chance to have a moment with you ended as soon as it started. To reassure him, you quickly planted a kiss on his forehead. Which in return caused his eye smile to reappear. You would make sure to give him more of the love he deserved later. Preferably without any more interruptions.

“Hyuck, I really don’t think this is a good idea.” You put your hand on your boyfriend’s shoulder to stop him from leaning any closer. “What if someone walks in?”

It was late at night when you had come to visit Haechan at the 127 dorm. You had been sitting on the floor so you could complete your homework on the low coffee table. On the other hand, Haechan was lying on the couch behind you. He was lazily scrolling through his phone, waiting for you to finish, and bored out of his mind.

Fortunately for him, you were efficient and were able to have your homework done fairly quickly. After packing your school supplies back in your bag, you turned to ask what your boyfriend wanted to do now.

Feeling a bit upset that you hadn’t been paying attention to him in the past hour, Haechan wanted you to make up for the lost time. Which led to your current predicament. Haechan brought you onto the couch with him and made a move to kiss you. 

“It’ll be fine. The guys are still at their schedule,” The boy shrugged when you asked him to reconsider this.

You crossed your arms self-consciously, “Are you sure?”

“Yes, trust me,” He said, leaning in again. 

Exhaling nervously, you didn’t stop him this time. Haechan kissed you hungrily, and so passionately that you fell back on the couch. His kisses still elated you, even though making out had become quite common in your relationship.

Just as your concerns slowly started to melt away, you heard footsteps followed by a groan. “Again, Haechan-ah?” you heard Doyoung’s voice.

You motioned for Haechan to get off you and sat up. “You said your members were still out on schedules!”

“I thought they were!” Haechan tried to defend himself.

“Ahem, I’m still here,” Doyoung cleared his throat. You dared to look to see the way his arms were crossed and the disapproval on his face. “And this is the fifth time I’ve caught you!”

“Hyung, it’s not my fault (Y/n) is so irresistible!” Haechan whined, causing you to blush even more.

Doyoung face palmed, “Haechan, if you’re going to make out with your girlfriend, please don’t do it in our living room!”

Haechan rolled his eyes and took your hand to bring you into his room. He knew there was no chance of trying to start things up again. But he convinced you to cuddle with him on his bed. He was a little wary, worried that you’d say “I told you so” to him. 

Instead, you kissed his jaw and let yourself lay in his arms. The boy smiled, wondering how lucky he was to have you in his life.

#BACKGROUND

Hanan was born in San Francisco, California. Only daughter of a successful business woman and his father being CEO of his own company, Hanan would have to move and live in different countries since early age until her parents decided on settling down in New York; there, she would start taking ballet lessons. 

Hanan would always excel in every school assignment, and her former classmates would refer to her as “the triple treat: beautiful, smart and kind.” It’s after a ballet winter showcase that she gets scouted by YG, an agent reaching out to her parents telling them she had potential. Her dad was reluctant to let her go and be a trainee, while her mother told her that she supported whichever decision she made. 

She became a trainee at the beginnings of 2013 under YG. Hana trained for three years under YG, even getting contemplated to debut as a Blackpink member, but ultimately Hanan didn’t make the cut. 

While being a trainee, she also kept practicing ballet.

Months before blackpink’s debut, she parted with YG on good terms and decided on staying in Seoul for a while to try her luck, eventually getting scouted by SM entertainment.

Mark just reminds me of I Smile so so much. It feels like ex-lovers who crossed paths once again. One is happy while the other one is not, wasn't able to move on properly and while he sees you happy with someone else, he tries to be supportive of you!! Mark will congratulate you even though it feels bitter for him, and will give you an assuring smile so that the frown on your face could turn upside down. 

Huang Renjun ; You were beautiful

Of course Renjun's You Were Beautiful I MEAN look at this beautiful creature and tell me that he doesn't suit YWB??? He's that lover that you once had. Your relationship with him was the very best, and was everything that you want BUT sometimes, relationship do not work out and unfortunately, it didn't work out with you and Renjun. So the only thing you can do is reminisce the beautiful memories of him. 

Lee Jeno ; Letting Go

Already crying with this one BUT Jeno's Letting Go. It's just. It suits him so much, like a last goodbye to someone that has been very very dear to you. All the time you had together, all the things you two had done, will be gone in just a simple goodbye. You know it's hard for both of you, but it's for the best to just let go of each other even though there's a small hope inside you two that wanted to try again, but chose not to. 

Lee Donghyuck ; I Would

This one felt like regret and rage. It suits Haechan so much because I feel like he's very emotional when it comes to relationships especially on fights. I Would sounds like someone regretting letting go of someone because of a petty mistake. Now he could do nothing but to yearn and he wanted to win you back, but he can't because he felt like he already lost even though he hasn't started yet. 

Na Jaemin ; I Loved You

I Loved you = Jaemin. End of discussion. Jaemin felt like a first love whom slowly drifted away from you. It sounds like a first love that hit you hard like a truck, (really.) but that's the problem! Jaemin doesn't reciprocate your feelings. You're in an unrequited love with him, and it took you YEARS to moved on from him. But fate loves to play games because at the moment that you lost your feelings to Jaemin, he suddenly began noticing you. 

Zhong Chenle ; Goodbye Winter

In contrast to Chenle's summer vibe, he suits Goodbye Winter so much. He reminds you of winter, the day you two broke up after the many trials you two had. You remember how cold it was, on the outside of your apartment as you talked to him. Tears streaming on your face, and you can see the pain in his eyes too. You two agreed that this is the end, and at the first fall of snow, you two shared a hug before he leaves you there. 

Park Jisung ; First Time

Yes First Time is lively BUT let me tell you, the lyrics are just something else. First Time suits Jisung so much because it feels nostalgic. Like a childhood friend who was separated and found each other again. The problem is, Jisung doesn't remember you at all. And while you yearn from afar, Jisung is completely clueless about you. It hurts but there's nothing you can do at all, so at the end, you let go at the idea of having your childhood friend back.

SM rlly needs to manage groups better. Renjun nearly passed out on stage and Mark was obviously concerned for him, but SM didn't even frigging let him rest.

yes i completely agree! nct is so overworked and as someone who loves renjun with all my heart, it's not okay how they treat nct.

but remember nctzens! no matter how much we disagree with sm overworking, whenever a unit releases something, it's better to encourage and support the members than complain and beg sm for rest. yes, us being loud could be a way for them to hear, but it's gotten to the point that nct members themselves have made comments

haechan himself has said he'd rather be encouraged then asked to rest. and as someone who admires haechan, i can see where he's coming from. he's probably EXTREMELY tired but still works hard on all of his projects, and i would understand how discouraging it might feel to have comment sections full of people begging sm to let them stop working and resting.

tl;dr, it's a grayscale. there is no right and wrong, like most issues. i say best is to support nct and their wishes, but still criticize sm for poor management.

REMEMBER! your advocating for better treatment does not mean you can't still support the members and activities they do.

after posting this, i realized i had some more comments on the situation.

there is no reason a member of nct should have a health accident or be in the hospital every other week. period. that is non-negotiable. when i say support nct, i mean while they have active contracts.

if nct ever got into a time where they were contesting their contracts and fans started a boycott, i would, even if it was painful, 100% boycott nct so sm would not get more money off of them while they tried to get out. but currently, nct is still functioning under sm with no current public fighting to end their contracts (as of 7/28/2023). nct dream is currently on promotions for istj, dream and 127 alike are both doing 7th anniversary promotions, wayv is doing fansigns in asia, and taeyong & wayv are scheduled for kcon la 2023. there is no reason we should stop support currently. even if it gives money to sm who is notorious for not paying artists fairly, a fraction of that money still makes it into nct's bank accounts.

it's also a morale thing. nct dream has just come back with 3rd album istj after completing the dream show two. they're probably extremely tired (ie haechan going to the hospital, renjun almost passing out at the 7th anniversary event, etc.) and it would be devastating to see a lack of support or comments instead of encouraging and supporting them for the comeback (which by the way, is absolutely AMAZING and I'm so proud of them as someone who has listened since the 1st album repackage) telling them to rest. not to sound rude, but they can at some point take care of themselves as adults, even if it's difficult for them.

tl;dr, support the boy's activities. it's the least we can do. as much as i think they deserve the break, they're clearly not going to be getting one, so we should just support them to boost morale. if there is a day where nct does fight to end their contracts and leave sm, then we'll deal with it when it comes

End Of An Era...

SM Entertainment is currently crashing and burning ... Well, who's to say that they didn't see this coming?

For the past three to four years or so, SM Entertainment has been taking a steep nosedive into insanity, and these new revelations by (wanting to be former? but still current?) EXO members about SM's shady tactics towards pay and contract renewal are certainly not helping them fly back up.

I became a K-pop fan in 2014 thanks to EXO with their song Overdose, and without them, I would have never found my ult group of BTS. I have sat through numerous lawsuits, watched the departure of other EXO members, watched how this company has run its artists into the ground and spat on their mental well-being for an extra buck.

SM Entertainment used to RULE the industry prior to 2017, and even after their influence began to waver, their artists continued to make waves on the charts and in international spaces. But holy shit, I checked in on some of their most recent debacles... Weird official expose videos on Lee Sooman, company share fights, K-pop cities with an abundance of weed -- and yes, that's probably one of the tamer points of this company's many struggles -- poor funding, neglect of artists, Kai's military enlistment, the weird sudden schism of NCT, and just straight-up 2011 Photobooth special effects... what the actual hell has happened to this titan?

The aespa tour promotion videos still send me into a fit of laughter.. and don't get me wrong, I have quite a soft spot for those girls (ningning please call me), but whoever designed these videos needs to be fired. It looked like a knock-off movie that you can only find in an obscure one-dollar bin at your local supermarket -- something that probably would only look good at one of these inebriated K-pop festivals Sooman dreamed of.

But seventeen-year-long slave contracts without proper payment is fucking insane, and the fact that they thought that they could get away with it in this era of K-pop is crazy. More and more artists are fighting for their rights and demanding proper pay and treatment. GOT7 left their company but still decided to remain a band, Chen has been open about his relationship and family, and Chuu and many other LOONA members have terminated their contracts and have been making waves against BBC... More and more idols have been comfortable being themselves and expressing their discomfort with these corporate entities, something that some idols not even a decade ago would have dreamed of.

Also, not to mention, the South Korean government is starting to crack down and increase restrictions against these companies and their abusive tactics against minors, their main pool of prey. Thank god for that!

I would like to touch a little on T.O.P announcing officially that he's leaving Big Bang... it really feels like the old K-pop world is collapsing before our very eyes, but I suppose that's just how life is. Change is natural and we as consumers would be naive to think that things would always be the same.

I think these changes are good things, really, I do. Although I'm not an EXO-L, and I know how many ARMYs feel about them, at the end of the day they are just a fanbase who dedicated a lot of time and money to a group of people they loved -- and seeing the chances of a full EXO comeback slip away from them more and more must be heartbreaking. I never really hated EXO-Ls, because again, a few bad apples don't define an entire batch.

We should stand by and try to support the artists, I bet this situation is scary for them, but they deserve justice.
