And just like that the X-Men survive another (and perhaps their most sinister) demon possession, all thanks to Forge who pretty much single highhandedly defeated the Shadow King and all his henchmen. Seriously, except for those directly supporting Forge as he snuck around implanting neural inhibitors in everyone, everyone else involved in this operation was completely unnecessary. Charles didn’t need to confront the Shadow King on the astral plane and get crippled, and furthermore, Charles doesn’t even die!! What exactly is the “pyrrhic victory” that the cover was alluding to! Him being crippled?? He’s been crippled his whole life! And he doesn’t even stay crippled! Comics.
The logic of this whole situation is wishy washy, including the fact that Forge scrambled Pylocke’s brain to free her from the Shadow King and this didn’t disrupt her psionic blade, but then he used that very same psionic blade to scramble Lorna’s brain which did disrupt the Shadow King’s nexus. But these are all nits. I did like this story and the ending was satisfying, if a little convenient. I mean, the Shadow King can’t exist without a nexus now? How was he possessing Karma and Jacob Reisz before this? And now that I’m thinking about it, how come the people he possesses don’t get all bloated and fat anymore?? Ahhh stop thinking about it Gaknar or you’ll ruin it!! Wait what happened to Amanda Sefton and Sharon Friedlander?? Ahhh stop it!! (Uncanny X-Men #280 – Sept 1991)

Teacher Toad
Erik just...forces Jean grey to be co headmaster with him. Because he has too many kids and not enough people who work there.
Cannonball ,Sunspot ,Cypher, Warlock, Magik, Magma, Mirage, Wolfsbane, Karma and Birdbrain. Power pack, Franklin Richards, Wiz kid, Rusty. Skids, Rictor , Boom-Boom, Leech, Artie, Namorita, Thunderbird, Firestar, Squirrel Girl.
Meanwhile he got Stevie Hunter, Tom Corsi, Sharon Friedland, Bobby ,Toad and Amelia Vogt.
Cloak, Dagger, Siryn, and Multiple man are like basically interns at this point.
And everyone else is either an X-Man or a free loader.
And you best believe that Erik absolutely calls Scott that every chance he gets.
Awww, I love that you included Stevie, Tom and Sharon. Poor Sharon deserved better.

We haven't seen Sharon and Tom for a few years now... it looks like they have been sent to work at a real school... only things are about to go really bad for them. Sharon and Tom, if you don't know, are two white people who were randomly turned into Native Americans during the whole Demon Bear situation... it was this whole... thing

The conflict in the Muir Island Saga finally concludes when X-Factor convinces Professor X to stop worrying so much about Legion’s massive psychic trauma, at which point Professor X wakes up and everything is made to be all right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Except everything’s not alright! Legion is still a drooling vegetable and neither of his parents or any of the X-Men seem to care, except fricken Wolverine!!
Tumblr media
It’s not like he’s not in there anymore, or couldn’t be brought back! He’s a character that has already endured deep psychological trauma before the Shadow King took a cheese grater to his brain. You know what he needs right now? His most powerful telepath in the world psychic father and his intellectual genius in the field of mutation mother to help him get better!! But no fuck that. We’ve got the most financially successful comic book in the history of the industry coming up so we’ve got to focus on that.
Tumblr media
So what happened to Amanda Seftan? Or Tom Corsai and Sharon Friedlander for that matter? There was a whole gaggle of side characters that were being mind controlled by the Shadow King that are conveniently forgotten about now. Well I guess I already answered my own question. X-Men Volume 2 is coming up next. (X-Factor #70 - Sept 1991)

I’m reading the classic New Mutants comics for the first time which unfortunately means that now I do things like spend an entire 5 hour shift at the cash register the other day thinking about how much I don’t like the Demon Bear Saga :/

Note
I can't get over this part in early 90s Uncanny X-Men where Tom Corsi gets pissed off because an Acolyte (I think Frenzy?) calls him a "flatscan". Like, bro you are literally in brown face shut the fuck up.
i love to forget tom corsi and sharon friedlander exist entirely
