my kingdom for a magical unicorn version of the spongebob fanon wiki that, rather than treating each fans continuity as if it's a real official product that aired on television as a continuation of spongebob as a franchise with fake made up information about episode lists and airing history but rather actually an informative database about the exact nature of a fans work, the characters they introduce in their work, and the continuity they hold - like for example a page for like. spongebob beyond the tale of blue. that explains that it is a youtube fan series, explains its plot and cast, but also includes information about it's availability - like for a series, fancomic, or fanfic that is no longer available, it discusses this, but if its still available you might see links to where to find the work on the page. anyone with me on this. do you see my vision

i think fandom as a whole puts too much weight on continuity and throwaway lines as if we need everything to line up perfectly in canon and it's a black mark in the entire media/series/book to have a continuity error. I think it's okay to have one-off gags, especially in episodic and/or comedy shows.
this isn't about anything in particular, but I am just comparing fan wikis and anaylsis video essays vs this one bts video about spongebob years ago that mentioned they track every gag on the show and keep a folder of them because they never wanted to repeat a gag.

Creature Friendsday: Baki
Our second ever Creature Friendsday, and our first one with a fictional Creature: the Baki!
Tumblr media
These little creachers are from an old video game franchise I hold very dear to my heart: Drawn to Life. From its humble beginnings on the DS to it's unfortunate-yet-strong end on the very same console, the first game was a memorable if mediocre platformer with great writing and characters and a fun gimmick of, you guessed it, drawing. The second one (DS version) stepped it up with a surprisingly dark plot (any fans out there know exactly what I'm talking about when I mention that ending.) Unfortunately, the Wii version of the second game which was it's own thing wasn't as good, nor was the Spongebob crossover (???) and the franchise was never seen again. Ever. Probably for the best, they'd fuck it up if they were to bring it back nowadays
Tumblr media
Anyways, this post is about Bakis, not the games they're from. That's for another day. They have several variants, even getting a new colour scheme for every world in the first game! Here's one riding a star in the second world's space section. Space and creatures are two of my favourite things, and this guy does it both, all with a stylish leaf on his head!
Tumblr media
This guy's big, and is being ridden by evil shadow creatures! I could go on about how Wilfre, the main villain, summoned these shadow creatures when he basically stole god's sketchbook that brought things to life, but warped and twisted because he wasn’t god (either that or he was evil), but again, this is about silly guys
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I don't think any official art of these guys exist, which is why I've only been showing small sprites taken from the series' wiki, but here's one in state of the art 3D! This one’s from that Wii game I mentioned earlier. It wasn't good.
Tumblr media
There are so many more of these guys that I can't talk about them all, but all of them are very beloved! I wish there were more of these guys to love, but again, only four games were released and one of them was Spongebob. These guys aren't from Spongebob. As much as I would love a return to this franchise, at least they quit while they were ahead.

Iron Man (vol. 1) #32: Revenge!
Read Date: November 24, 2022 Cover Date: March 1971 ● Writer: Gerry Conway ● Penciler: Don Heck ● Inker: Mike Esposito ● Colorist: {uncredited} ● Letterer: Artie Simek ● Editor: Stan Lee ●
Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● [pg 2] "Erm, Mr. Iron Man, sir? The ambulance is still waiting to treat Mr. Sitwell…" || "I'm not done shaking my fist at the sky and making melodramatic vows!" ● [pg 3] Jasper’s dying because you won’t let him go so the medics can tend to him!  ● [pg 4] YIKES, I wasn’t expecting that! I have the Marvel app set up to read panel-by-panel and then show the full screen before going to the next page… which means sometimes panels like #4 really sneak up on me! Ha!  ● Madame Masque, eh?  ● [pg 5] there’s ol’ Matt Murdock  ● Since the movie was my first exposure to Iron Man, I hear all of Stark’s dialogue in Robert Downey, Jr.’s voice. Not that that is a bad thing. I love him as Tony Stark. So when he’s threatening this red-headed guy (not Matt Murdock), it works nicely to hear it in RD’s voice  ● Ah, I did wonder why Matt and Foggy were there. I didn’t realize it was a police line-up  ● Why are you pickin’ on Daredevil?  ● [pg. 9, panel 3] that’s a handy trick. He could make a killing providing moving services  ● [pg. 11, panel 3] waaaait a minute. His name was spelled with an A in the last issue! Now I see what other podcasters are talking about when they pick at the misspellings. Great, I’m going to start looking for mistakes now, aren’t I  ● [pg. 11, panel 6] Dr. Strange?  ● [pg. 12, panel 1] oh.  ● [pg. 15, panel 1] “his thumb up his ear” gave me a chuckle. That’s not what he said!  ● [pg. 16, panel 3] I spent way too long trying to figure out what a “slip-pin” is  ● [pg. 18, panel 1] I promise I didn’t picture Spongebob here…  "Hiiiii, Keeevvviiiinnnn"
Synopsis: With Jasper Sitwell seriously wounded by the Spymaster, Iron Man vows revenge on the spy, though he blames himself for Jasper's situation. Reading about Jasper's situation in the newspaper, Madam Masque realizes her true feelings for the SHIELD agent.
Meanwhile, Iron Man interrogates Spymaster's captured accomplices, with Stark Industries lawyer Matt Murdock in company. Murdock stops Iron Man from getting violent with the crooks, frustrated Iron Man walks off resolving to find Spymaster on his own. All the while Spymaster meets with his employer Capricorn of the Zodiac crime cartel, who is furious that Spymaster failed on his last mission. However Capricorn sends him off on his next mission: to hunt down Daredevil.
While at SHIELD headquarters, Iron Man meets with Nick Fury, who asks Iron Man to take the Zodiac Key back to Stark Industries for examination, while handing over the key it briefly influences Fury with its power before Iron Man takes it away. While elsewhere in the city, Madame Masque runs into Daredevil and before formal introductions can be made, both are captured by Spymaster.
While Iron Man and Kevin O'Brien are examining the Zodiac Key, they are attacked by Capricorn his goons, soon they along with Nick Fury are captured and placed in holding with Daredevil and Madame Masque. However, once in captivity, the Zodiac Key influences Nick Fury to take it into his possession. This story is continued in Daredevil Vol 1 73.

Why Funko Pop Vinyls Are a Popular Choice Among Collectors
Tumblr media
If you are a collector of Funko Pop vinyls, you probably already know about the many unique characters available. In fact, Funko has more than 1,000 licensed properties, including The Avengers, the Golden Girls, Flash Gordon, Stranger Things, The Office, and more. These "evergreen" properties account for nearly half of all sales, and the company continues to acquire new and unexpected licenses to expand its collection. The following are a few reasons why they make such a popular choice among collectors:
Besides being fun to collect, Funko Pop Vinyls can also be a good investment opportunity. Collectors purchase Pop Vinyls with the belief that it will increase in value as it vaults in popularity. However, there are some cons to collecting Funko Pop Vinyls. First, you will have to decide what you are willing to spend. Many collectors collect Pop Vinyls with the intention of reselling them. Some are more desirable than others, and you can also find limited-edition sets that you can resell.
Collectible Funko Pop Vinyls come in unopened display boxes. The boxes are not sealed, so collectors often display them outside of the box. Others display their collection outside the box, while others prefer to store them in cases or boxes. No matter which method you choose, it is fun to look at and admire your collection. And remember, the prices are always rising! Don't forget to check out the auction site on eBay.
You can purchase Funko Pop vinyls from local stores or online stores. You can also trade with other collectors. Make sure to choose a reputable seller. You can even buy Funko Pops from other collectors in foreign countries. Be sure to check the terms and conditions of the seller before making any transactions. You can get a lot of fun from collecting Pop Vinyls Australia. If you are a collector of pop culture vinyls, you can start a collection of your favorite icons.
If you are a fan of SpongeBob, you can also purchase Pop Vinyls of the other cast members. The TV series has several SpongeBob characters available, including Squidward, Sandy, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs. You can also find the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Christmas version of SpongeBob. All of these are available at major retailers, such as Target, Amazon, and eBay.
Funko Pop figures are collectibles, and collectors can find them in a wide variety of different styles and sizes. Most Pops are white, with a few exceptions, and most include bobble heads. In addition to this, many are oversized and customizable. The designs are not final, and some are even US exclusives! You can also find rare Pop! Vinyls at Ozzie Collectables.
Despite the popularity of the figures, they can be difficult to find. While you can purchase one of the many Funko Pop vinyls, it's important to remember that there are certain rules and conditions associated with collecting them. You should read the box carefully before attempting to sell yours. There may be some minor imperfections that you should be aware of. You should also be aware of the Grail Pop, which is a rare and highly sought-after Pop! Check out this post for more details related to this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_figure.

So I've been seeing a lot of back and forth about fandom and demographics and sexism and so forth surrounding FGO and the lack of content for male characters, and a lot of good points have been raised but there's a factor that seems to be consistently missing in a lot of these discussions:
Have you ever noticed how eerily quiet this fandom is for its size?
I mean, the trickle of fan content beyond glamour paintings and pinups of individual faves. Cosplay photos rarely focus on what the characters do, only on making the subject look attractive, to a far greater extent than in other fandoms I've cosplayed for, and if you think the male characters are underrepresented in FGO canon, well, try and find any cosplays of some of them (I am working at becoming the first 3rd ascension Siegfried I've ever seen). Fanfics are pretty uncommon. Fanfics that focus on the relationships between established characters rather than someone's Gudasona, even rarer - and I'm not saying this to say there's anything wrong with self-inserting, especially not when it's all but begged for by the canon, in fact I love and adore all my friends' Gudasonas, but it illustrates something about the composition of the fandom as a whole. It's especially fascinating and unsettling because - look at this franchise. No, really, look at it. It doesn't just demand self-insertion; it is the ambitious crossover of almost everything in the public domain, with an extensively built yet flexible world (the rules are what they are until they're dramatically convenient to break, there are multiple canon timelines, etc.); it is the kind of thing that is BEGGING for fan creativity and unofficial stories, and they just...aren't there.
Or, well, they are there, but not nearly as much as you would expect when this franchise, with such a great formula for fan creativity, has been going for like 20 years and you can survive on nothing but official licensed Fate series merch. No, really. Click the link.
Normally if you gave that much merch to a fandom this (seemingly) small, it would be the biggest and most obvious financial blunder since Cave Johnson, yet somehow this series keeps churning as a massive success.
Meaning there is a quiet, often silent side of this fandom.
So let's talk demographics and fandom behavior.
Fandom behavior exists on a spectrum from curatory to transformative. On the extreme of the curatory side, there are the supercollectors, the people who get into debates over wiki accuracy that make literary academic fights look tame, the people who sit down and review the canon 20 times to show the most accurate timelines possible that we all check as religiously as if they were official - the curatory side of a fandom is the people who are Just Here For The Canon. On the extreme of the transformative side, the people who ask "hey what if this character from my OTHER favorite game was the self-insert protagonist for THIS game?", the people who create big ambitious crossovers between Demon Slayer and Spongebob with guest characters from a dozen other pieces of media set against the backdrop of the Great Molasses Flood of Boston, and the people who, just through trial and error, understand the mechanics of how that time Goofy fucking died in Kingdom Hearts was actually pretty poignant in context (hint: ANYTHING can be if the viewer is immersed enough).
Of course, it's a spectrum. Most people are not either of those extremes. Most fanfic authors like to maintain a little more connection to canon, many people both write fanfics and collect figures (hi, I'm one of them), most AUs try to maintain a certain level of paralleling canon, and fanart can be ANYWHERE on this spectrum as can cosplay (ask me about my Berserker!Sieg cosplay in progress! ), but for the most part fandom happens in the middle.
But, there is a demographic trend. Namely, men tend to lean more curatory, and women tend to lean more transformative. Or, to go even deeper, straight men tend to lean curatory; women and queer people of all genders tend to slide more transformative, and in my experience disability also often makes people slide further toward the transformative end - because ultimately, while this isn't always the case, transformative fandom is often a response to clicking with a piece of media but being unable to shake the fact that this was...definitely not made for you.
And in my observation the quietest (and most obnoxious) place on the spectrum is Curatory Lite - i.e., you're collecting stuff, you're probably a canon purist, you might be one of those obnoxious dudes who quizzes female cosplayers on the timeline of the media they're cosplaying from because you think the Only Way To Fandom is to be as obsessed with canon trivia as you, but you're probably not getting into fights with other dudes on the internet about illustrated timelines or bitching on Twitter that you don't like this canon twist so they NEED to change it for YOU because fanfic is beneath you.
This is, unfortunately, probably our silent majority.
This is, unfortunately, probably where the money is coming from.
Now, I don't think this means we should stop saying "hey, guys, this is fucking ridiculous," nor am I saying it's hopeless.
What I'm saying is, if you're wondering how this can continue despite the fact that damned near everyone who's TALKING hates it, even the straight men, even the official artists...look at how many people are talking, compared to how much merch is selling.
The point is that it's, uh. I fear it may be more of an uphill battle than the near unanimous discussion makes it seem.

I LOVE No Straight Roads
Honestly it’s hard to keep me away from a game with great visuals and even greater character design. I knew from the INSTANT I saw these characters that I was going to love it. I just finished it because it’s (unfortunately) pretty short, and even though I cheesed the final boss through it’s very lenient death mechanics (Instant respawn at the cost of a good rank) I actually appreciated that it wasn’t a pure cake walk. I’ve yet to rematch all of the bosses, but since I had genuine trouble with the later ones I’ll hold off on that.
But who cares about gameplay, am I right? I sure as hell don’t. I would’ve bought the game no matter what the hell it was. I wanted the characters (and the music, although I realized that second) and that was it.
First of all, I love any world that is super fantastical but cheesy in its concept, ala a city powered by music, and battles between artists using music. Ideas like this only spawn from a mind that wants to create a fun atmosphere, if nothing else, and it was sure as hell fun. I genuinely love when someone goes so far into a crazy idea and doesn’t waste your time explaining it with real world logic. Wanna know how a city can be powered by music? Shut up and look at the cute virtual mermaid. Lord knows I did. Every once in a while, it does you good to just let the player/reader/viewer just revel in the idea without having to go out of your way to make things seem realistic. It’s not about “turning your brain off” or whatever, it’s picking your battles.
Also, I can seriously love a world with great background characters to it. Any game with the right situation to insert the random nobodies you find onto the streets into the art in the credits really played into the greatness of the world’s less important characters, and that’s always a good thing. It’s technically world building. But, since I always love to pick favorites, I’d have to say my favorite background character is easily Mia, the NSR infodesk assistant. It’s funny, because you can literally search “nsr characters” into Google and she’s the third image result. I love how jumpy she is when you first interact with her, since NSR probably spread the word about B2J suggesting they’re rock thugs who’d beat up anyone, so for all she knows she could die right then and there with a guitar lodged in her skull. She’s probably just some intern trying to pay for college. She don’t want trouble.
Also, I just realized that 90% of the characters in this game have the same body structure that I always love, that being having arms/legs that sort of fan out in width into relatively large hands/feet. It’s a kind of limb structure I fall into so much because it just really hits me right for some reason. I really can’t explain why.
Anyways, I gotta talk about the big boys individually:
Mayday and Zuke are an amazing duo. I’m always a sucker for a cute and crazy girl, but honestly Zuke hit so many of the right notes too. I will say it’s weird to pair the martian Zuke with the humanly-skinned Mayday, but honestly it doesn’t even matter because he looks so cool on his own. I love his weird blocky blue dreadlocks, and his weirdly shaped shirt which bares his chest in the weirdest way... And, oh my god, Mayday’s weird Spongebob background flower eyes? It’s little tidbits like that that really make me jealous. How could I have ever thought of that? It looks so perfect, and I don’t know why. And her little booty jig she does in her idle animation? Adorable. I played as her as much as was reasonable not only because I’m a filthy button masher with little strategy but also because she’s so damn cute. I can also appreciate how she has a tough-as-nails persona while still keeping a semi-girly attitude, like with her falling for 1010 and Sayu. Characters are so much better when they’re a perfect blend of characteristics, instead of being all one-note, like how Zuke is the quiet one but gets heated against DK West, and all.
Honestly the voice acting for every character is great, but I love when Mayday’s VA’s accent shows through. It’s a perfect twang to accent (consider this the only acknowledgement of a pun in this post) her snarkiness.
DJ Subatomic Supernova was going to be an easy favorite since he’s all space-themed. Also, I don’t know why I always end up liking the egotistic characters. Not in the sense that I like their egotistic-ness, but in the sense that I like everything else about them and they just so happen to also be egotistic. The same applied with Empoleon (maybe like my 2nd favorite Pokemon) and Rarity from MLP, probably among others. Either way, I’ll never not love space themes. Not to mention he’s got a funky disco theme, and I’m slowly starting to realize that I am in extreme love with techno-funk styles of music. The instant I heard his music he cemented his place into my playlists.
As for design, I still have no idea what the fuck he is. Clearly AI is at human levels in this world, but if he’s a robot why does he still have hairy legs? But, if he’s a human, is that weird orb his head? Is it just some sort of puppet which he controls from inside his giant jacket? I know I dissed explaining things realistically but I actually want to know with this guy. Even the wiki doesn’t say. Either way, he’s clearly the logical extreme of “being at the center of your own universe.” Even his jacket depicts a solar system, with his hood being the sun. Didn’t see that until I tried to draw him. I really wish this guy wasn’t so tied to his DJ stand so I could reasonably draw him without it. I don’t want to draw his hairy ass legs. It is a great touch for his design though (although I prefer his beta look with pants and long boots, another design trait I tend to gravitate to) since DJs could reasonably not wear pants, since they’re always behind a table.
Sayu is my favorite. It’s so plainly obvious. It’s weird to say that sometimes, because some characters like Sayu are so clearly engineered to be as adorable as possible, to the point where they’re basically a parody of whatever they’re supposed to be emulating, but then they do that so well that they are still likable for what they’re trying to parody. Also, even though I’ve never looked into any vocaloid superstars myself, the fact that they exist and are loved in real life is absolutely perfect to be used as a character design in a world like this. It’s so weird conceptually, but we all know it’s normal and realistic. But yeah, she’s a giga-cutie whom I’ve already drawn and I’ve listened to her theme on loop on many different occasions. Favorite character, favorite track, favorite weapon of choice (What did I say about Empoleon?), which, and I wouldn’t have noticed this myself, looks like the USB symbol you see above USB ports on computers. How crazy perfect is that?
Even apart from my unbridled love for cute monster robot(?) girls, her boss fight is probably the 2nd greatest of them all, at least conceptually. She’s just a hologram, so you can’t touch her, but you CAN disconnect the artists which control her in order to defeat her. It’s the kind of concept for a boss fight that could only work for this type of character. I’m a sucker for the cute girl that provides her voice, but I love how the animator (video editor? the yellow one) actually attacks you with a mouse and lowers the brightness of the setting once he appears. Also, the mocap guy being the deeply-voiced type but still providing the adorable movements of her body. It’s such a great combo of characters, and their little extra art in the credits makes me like them even more. I just wish we could interact with them individually.
DK West was probably one of the most interesting characters visually, especially since I knew of every other NSR member long before the game came out, but I only just heard of him closer to the release. I wasn’t sure where he was placed, but I definitely assumed his gig was the weird shadow demon we saw in the trailers. When I finally saw him in game, I was shocked to hear him speak an entirely different language most of the time, which was really cool. Also, finding out he was tied to Zuke and wasn’t strictly an NSR artist really made him more interesting. You know, if his fucking shadow clone magic didn’t make him crazy cool enough. Even though I suck at his game and am not especially fond of his raps, the visual of him rapping with this giant monster behind him and dozens of weird shadow wingmen by his side hyping him up was probably one of the coolest in the entire game. The dark way they were hyping him up too gave such a bizarre atmosphere, especially since it parallels his seemingly chill and smiley demeanor.
I definitely hope they’ll introduce new bosses as DLC in the future, and make them sort of in the same vein as DK West, where they aren’t the biggest artists ever, but they want to pick a fight with B2J. I’d kill for any extra content this game can provide.
Yinu is obviously special since she was the subject of the demo they put out for the game. Even though I knew all her bells and whistles, she and her mom still beat me a few times in the full game. Considering she’s semi-tied to story-ish spoilers I kinda want to go more into her in a separate section. It is worth considering playing the game first since it’s not hard (with the easy going deaths) and it’s short length.
1010 seriously grew on me as I learned more about them and interacted with them. I got their shtick when I first looked at them, but after seeing that animation of them touring the city on Youtube I was kinda falling for them. Then, I learned that they’re apparently repurposed navy war robots? I mean, maybe not them specifically, but it seems to heavily point in that direction, with the warship cars and “attention!”s and all. It took me a bit to get into their music too, but once I actually fought them and put their actions to the music I fell in love with it. I swear, Neon J’s weird dancing can has some of the smoothest moves in all of gaming. I don’t know whether they mocapped out those movements or got one of the greatest animators ever, but it looks so impossibly clean his part of the song gets me like 30x more hype than it would normally.
Also, their little art piece of them looking at fan mail in the credits is probably one of the most adorable things ever. Even if they’re just Neon J’s puppets, that piece of art really makes it seem like they love every one of their fans. I’m not gonna lie, I might swoon a bit too if they picked me out and gave me some special attention.
Oh yeah, and the fact that Mayday was super sad in her showstopper against them was adorable and hilarious at the same time. The little tweaks they made to the showstopper for each fight were great.
Eve just has to be Lady Gaga, right? Like, an even crazier Lady Gaga. DJSS is Daft Punk (or any artist with a helmet persona, you know what I’m talking about), Sayu is Hatsune Miku, DK West is Kanye West, Yinu is a generic child protege, 1010 is a KPop boyband (just pick one) and Eve is Lady Gaga. That’s just how things are. But, again, this is the kind of boss fight that only this type of character could provide. It’s not just surreal imagery, it’s ARTISTIC surreal imagery. The fight is so mesmerizing in every way, especially by how it starts off so slow and calm and progresses to insanity, as well as the increased emotional investment in the fight making you feel so much more into it than just “That’s the boy band. Let’s fight.” Not only does it get you more invested, but it makes her artistic persona go deeper than just “she looks weird.” She is genuinely conflicted about her relationship with Zuke, and naturally that leads her to literally split him and Mayday apart. That mechanic specifically was the coolest, although I do wish they made it more obvious when you needed to switch over to a different side. I was getting pulverized by her fight too, since there were so many things to pay attention to. Her fight was definitely the best one.
Tatiana and Spoilers:
Let’s be real with ourselves, the twist was so obvious. I do also think, though, that obvious twists aren’t bad if they’re just good reveals. At some point, a person just has experienced so many stories that “only pretty good” twists are easy to spot. It doesn’t mean that the twists are bad, it just means you yourself experienced.
I feel like her transition from rock to EDM was pretty understandable, even as a non-musician. She was so caught up in what she assumed was popular that it basically consumed her. It’s easy as an artist to want to forgo what you truly want to make in favor of what makes you popular, and clearly since her transition to EDM made her the CEO of the biggest company in the city (world?) that probably made her think she truly needed to change her outlook. Then, when she saw B2J try to bring it back, she sort of coined them as being as misguided as she was and knocked them down a peg. Plus, they were kinda being jerks about it.
It’s kinda like the Trolls sequel, where everyone pegs rock music fanatics as being too stuck up in their own heads to appreciate other types of music, which honestly seems more like the case than the alternative. When I first heard of the story of the game, I was seriously hoping they did put an asterisk on B2J’s ambitions because they were a bit sketchy from the start.
That’s kinda where I want to talk about Yinu, because she was the true turning point in what they were doing. She’s literally 9 and yet she’s getting dragged into all this BS. When she said “I hate you all” at the end of her fight, and played a somber tune on her broken piano after the fight destroyed it, you kinda got a kick in the face to realize you’re kinda being an asshole to some of them. Sure, they fight back, but they wouldn’t fight in the first place if they didn’t have to. They are just people who play music under a joint name that B2J just so happened to get in hot water with.
Then, of course, there’s Kliff, who also reeked of surprise villain, and who’s basically the embodiment of the bad side of B2J, where he just wanted to destroy for his own sake and not for the actual greater good. Once B2J realized their mistake, they backed off, but Kliff was so hard pressed to do what he planned on in the first place he wouldn’t stop. I kinda wish he got a bigger fight to his own since he’s clearly a big enough tech genius to divert a whole satellite into one specific building. Maybe the Elliecopter chase bit was his thing, but I do kind of wish he was there to fight against them too.
Even though Tatiana did kind of reform a bit quick, It’s still not too crazy to assume she could see that B2J was just misguided and the fact that they worked to revert their wrongdoings for her sake would make a pretty strong impressions. They clearly can hold their own, so it’s not like she wouldn’t want them to join NSR too.
Oh yeah, and her boss fight was clock/time themed. If there’s a theme under space that I love, it’s clocks/time.
And If I am to be respected by the internet, I must provide a negative opinion to balance out my positive one. I will say that the character model physics (like Mayday’s braids, DK West’s vest thing, Neon J’s fluffy neck thing, etc) got kinda funky at times. Especially DK West’s vest, which was completely messed up for every scene he was in... Also, even though the voices are mostly great, some lines felt a bit off. Just a bit. That good enough? Good.
But yeah anyway that’s another favorite game to add to the pile. Eventually I’m gonna have to compile a true list of my all-time favorite games/movies because I do kind of want to have a solid idea of what my all-time favorites are.

OK, I know this will probably be painful, and I may be a bad mutual for asking but...would you be willing to identify what, in your opinion are the bottom five worst Shadow adaptations, and give a detailed breakdown of why they were so lousy?
Oh christ, okay. I don't think you're gonna get as much of a detailed breakdown for these compared to some of the others, because I take more issue with adaptations that do have good qualities but also big or deep problems to talk about.
For example, I can't include Garth Ennis's Shadow in this list because the comic has a lot of strong points to it, despite a deeply, deeply detestable take on The Shadow's character, where as the rest of the Dynamite run doesn't reach neither the lows or highs of his run. Likewise, Andy Helfer's run has a couple or a couple dozen moments every issue that make me want to tear something to shreds in frustration, but it's also at many points a really good comic with great art and some occasionally very inspired writing. Really, I'd just be repeating myself talking about what I hate in those.
But, fine, let's list some of the others.
Tumblr media
I think I'm just gonna have to get the elephant in the room out of the way here, and address that I won't be including Si Spurrier's 2017 Dynamite mini in this list, and I think at least some of you might be angry it's not Number 1 by default. I'm doing this because I intend to one day really revisit it, think about it and it's reception and what it was trying to do, and talk about it on it's own, now that it's been 5 years and everyone has moved on and we can maybe talk about it without kneejerk hatred driving everyone nuts (your mileage may vary on how warranted it was).
I'm also not going to be talking about James Patterson's new novel, because I haven't read it. It seems to be considered a forgettable potboiler by mainstream critics and a resounding failure by everyone who likes the character whether they've read the book or not, and frankly I don't have it in me to learn what the fuzz was about anytime soon, I got my hands way too full as is.
And I won't be including the Batman x Shadow crossovers here, because again, they do have a lot of virtues that put them far ahead of some of the really worst Shadow media, and I've talked enough about how badly I think they mangled The Shadow, which is really the big problem I have with them (well, that and Tim Sale blatantly copying a Michael Kaluta cover, that was really shitty). I don't really hate them anymore, I just get tired and frustrated thinking about parts of them, I said my piece as is. Really, my frustration over this comic is what inspired me to start writing about The Shadow here, so I guess in a way I do owe it at least that much.
5: Archie Comics's Shadow
Tumblr media
I think some of you might be wondering why this isn't ranked higher, but to be honest, I don't actually harbor any hatred towards this. I mean, I have to include it, but I find it kinda silly that some people even today actually care about the existence of this comic enough to hate it.
For fans back then? Oh yeah, obviously, but this dropped to such instantaneous backlash that it never really got to live past 6 issues. Really, everything wrong about it can be understood immediately from the covers, and I've actually read the comic in it's entirety to see if there was anything worth taking. I found only a couple of things of note but, no, this really is just a painfully mediocre superhero comic that happens to have a couple of Shadow names in it. If anything, it gets too much credit.
The actual contents of what it is are never going to justify it's reputation, but the existence of it and the disproportionate response to it is the funniest and most enduring legacy it could ever ask for. This whole comic is The Shadow's version of Spongebob's embarassing Christmas photo.
4: David Liss's The Shadow Now
Tumblr media
This is another "The Shadow as an immortal in modern times" comic and I think you may have noticed the pattern with those by now. I may revisit this eventually and I do have some moments from it saved for reference, but overall: It sucks, and it doesn't even suck in a way that lets me talk much about it, it's a diet version of Chaykin's Shadow. If Archie's Shadow is a generic mediocre superhero comic wearing The Shadow's name, this is a generic crime story playing beats from movie. The Shadow is an asshole and not even a grandiose or sinister one, he just feels like a sleazy douche in a costume. The art is a 50/50 coin toss between appropriately moody and "Google images with a filter on them", I don't remember anything about the plot other than Khan had a bomb again and he had a daughter, and there were new versions of the agents and the Harry stand-in turned evil and Lamont shacked up with Margo's descendant which, uh, no. I don't really hate this but I really have nothing nice to say about this comic other than Colton Worley's art is nice sometimes. I can't really muster anything else to say here.
3: Invisible Avenger
Tumblr media
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ZZZZZZZZZZ...
Tumblr media
...uuh, wha-
Yeah, I remember nothing about this one other than it's painfully boring and nothing about it, nothing at all, works in the slightest and I drift off to sleep even now trying to give this a rewatch. To be honest pretty much every other Shadow serial not starred by Victor Jory sucks and I don't really have anything to say about them, this one is just the worst of the lot. I dearly wish there was a good Shadow tv series but, if it was going to be like this pilot? Good riddance.
2: Harlan Ellison's The New York Review of Bird
Tumblr media
This isn't really a Shadow story as much as it's a Harlan Ellison story that happens to feature The Shadow, but man am I glad that Ellison's "Dragon Shadows" was canned, because holy shit what a goddamn nightmare Harlan Ellison writing The Shadow for real could have been, going purely by the one time he ever touched the character. New York Review of Bird is a purely farcical parody story that wears real, real thin even before "Uncle Kent" shows up, and we get to see in it what is by far the most detestable and irredeemable take on The Shadow ever put on print, and not even in a critique or deconstructive way or anything that could be remotely worth discussing.
I don't hold any particular affection for Harlan Ellison and his writing (despite liking some of it) and I've come to notice the major red flag that is finding someone who looks up to Harlan Ellison in any capacity as a person, and this story in particular really feels like Ellison aggressively trying to channel his jackass tendencies through every line, just him being nasty because he built a personal brand on being nasty. The only reason this isn't Number One is because it's a very short story that saw zero influence or reputation, and thus it only exists as a brief mention in The Shadow wiki, and a brief mention is all it really calls for.
1: Howard Chaykin's Blood & Judgment
Tumblr media
I'm guessing most of you already knew this one was in the top spot before I started writing.
I would actually rather not write a big piece on Blood & Judgment, because I think (or at least I hope) it's influence on The Shadow has waned a lot over the years and I would prefer to draw it the least amount of attention possible, but if I HAVE to talk about this, I guess I'd rather just vomit this out of my circuits now instead of giving it it's own post.
I would prefer to use a less unpleasant image on my blog, but if I'm going to talk about this comic, there's no image to better convey it than this drawing of macho asshole Cranston holding a sexualized mannequin at gunpoint. By leaps and bounds, Blood & Judgment is the most misogynistic Shadow story I've ever read. It's ironic that Chaykin justified the rampant misogyny he gave The Shadow with the idea that this is just a man from the 30s would act like, when he admits in the same breath that he never even touched the stories, and he wrote a story more sexist and demeaning to it's female characters than anything, literally anything, written in the Shadow pulps. It's almost impressive even.
I'll paste some segments from Randy Raynaldo's review
In Flagg, he intended to present his own point of view on American society while keeping his work tongue in cheek and acessible. But this vision dimmed, and Flagg had become a vehicle by which Chaykin could play out fetishes and portray gratuitous and stylish violence.
In The Shadow, stripped of the political and social veneer which was supposed to make Flagg unique, Chaykin's sensibilities and excesses become disturbingly apparent. For all of his liberal posturing, Chaykin's work demonstrates zero difference from the same kind of mentality exploited and made popular by similarly violent popular culture icons like Dirty Harry and Death Wish.
More than half a dozen individuals are indiscriminately and violently murdered in the first issue. Although the victims are characters who played major roles in the myth of The Shadow, we feel little sympathy for them, even for those of us who knew these characters at the outset. Who dies is unimportant, it's how they die that is the fascination.
Chaykin uses sexual decadence as a means by which to establish villains, and undercuts this device by making the protagonists as promiscuous as the villains. For all of Chaykin's seemingly liberal leanings, he demonstrates very little sensitivity in his portrayal of women.
Because everything works on rules of three, this comic also follows the pattern with other works mentioned here, as this isn't Howard Chaykin writing The Shadow: it's The Shadow reimagined as a Howard Chaykin character. He looks and acts exactly like Reuben Flagg and the typical macho protagonist of Chaykin's other works, he's a cynical sleaze with an entirely new origin who half-assedly dons a garb to machine gun people, and I already wrote a separate piece on why the machineguns are kind of emblematic of everything wrong with this take.
I understand that Chaykin has, or used to have, a big following of sorts, and I've tried to wrap my head around this for years, but I genuinely still don't get why Shadow fans stomach this comic unless they happen to be Chaykin fans first and foremost, I really don't. Everything, fucking everything Shadow fans hate about modern depictions of the character can be traced right back to this. The parts that stuck and changed the character for the worse, like him being defined as an immortal, bloodthirsty warmonger who got all his skills and powers from a magic city in Tibet, or Lamont Cranston being a coward who fears and hates the Shadow, or his agents being expendable slaves, stuff that has been ingrained into the mythos through this and the Alec Baldwin movie and other comics, to the point that people now think of it as the norm, that it's the baseline of what The Shadow is, and I hate it, I genuinely fucking hate it,
I hate it so much that it's a big part of the reason why I created this blog and why I want so badly to get to write The Shadow, because I plainly couldn't stand not having ways to tell people that this is all wrong, that this is actively shooting down the character's odds for success, and that they are missing out on something really great, because the well has been tainted with garbage that won't go away and everytime I read the words Shambala in a Shadow comic, even an otherwise good or great one, I get just a wee bit cross.
The only semi-redeeming aspects I can think of for this comic is one or two cool moments, like when The Shadow hijacks a concert using his Devil's Whisper or when he tames dogs with a stare. Just breadcrumbs of "not garbage" amidst an ocean of anything but. I hate that talking about why I hate this comic in-length can almost feel like I'm still enticing people to check it out of curiosity, but if you wanna do that, fine, just know this: The worst part of Blood & Judgment, even if you don't care at all about what it did to The Shadow, is that it's boring.
It is a deeply boring comic. If you like Howard Chaykin to begin with, you'll probably like this okay (although even Chaykin fans told me that this is his weakest work and that even he seems to agree). If you don't, I plain don't see what you could get out of this.
The comic itself is just nothing. It's the comic book equivalent of a pre-schooler trying to get a reaction by swearing. It has nothing whatsoever other than half-assed attempts at shock value. The plot isn't there, the ideas are stale, the dialogue is needlessly oblique and comprised entirely of unfinished sentences, interrupted conversations and one-liners without build-up. The characters are all unlikable and uninteresting stooges with no personality, or joyless cartoons. There's no heart or emotion or logic, and it isn't even funny enough to succeed as just an outrageous exercise in 80s excess. There's nothing in here.
I get "why" it was popular enough at the time, a rising star creator penning a modern revival of an old character based on controversy that pissed off the old fans, it's an old story that still gets repeated today. But manufactured controversy is not a replacement for storytelling and it rarely ever exists to benefit the people who actually want to enjoy the stories, it only benefits those for the crude benefit of those who want to sell you something out of the controversy.
I guess they got their money's worth back then.
------------------------------------------------
Phew, okay, I did it, I finally vomited out a piece on Blood & Judgment and some others, allright, let's put this piece of negativity behind us now.

Okay I've said before that I have no idea where Laszlo in the name Slappy Laszlo comes from. It's treated as official even though the show simply titles him as Slappy in the credits. I can't find where the Laszlo part comes from. I always guessed that was his earlier name that might have been confirmed on twitter or some social media site but Slappy is what fans came to know him by so it ended up replacing Laszlo and the peeps running the wiki decided to merge them both together or something.
Anyways I think I've found an official-ish source that calls him Slappy Laszlo.
On the official Spongebob youtube channel. On a video titled "Who's The Ugliest in Bikini Bottom". I didn't watch this for slappy. It just showed up on my feed and I thought "ha I'll watch that" and he shows up as number 23.
He is ugly that's truuuue but in a cute way😫 and he absolutely doesn't deserve to be rated higher than madam hagfish or mirror fish or Sal or motherfucking SQUIDBOB TENTACLEPANTS😭
I'm punching the air rn. But they do officially call him Slappy Laszlo so now we know that's his true name. This is just a very odd way of finding out.

Sponge Bob movie: The CATastrophe
Behold! Here is poster for the canceled SpongeBob movie (based on image from Paul Tibbit's Twitter)
Tumblr media
Once I watched a video from one Russian youtuber. It told about what the third film about SpongeBob could be according to one of the original scenarios - about the invasion of the Earth by alien cats.
Tumblr media
The story was so inspiring that I couldn't stop thinking about it. Seeing these storyboards and concept art, I thought: "A SpongeBob movie in the spirit of Star Wars and Invader Zim with Miyazaki-like landscapes? God! This is what I dreamed of😍!"
Tumblr media
Indeed, I have never seen such a richness of the plot in any feature film about SpongeBob: the confrontation between alien cats and intelligent dolphins, the distant planet of snails, from which Gary arrived, the repulse of alien attacks by the President of the United States and his trained tiger, human versions of SpongeBob and Patrick in the end! Everything of that I find on SpongeBob wiki.
Tumblr media
But unfortunately, this plot was turned off, and instead of it came "SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run", which only warned the audience about the release of the spin-off "Kamp Koral". This is just a sneaky move towards dead Steven Hillenburg, who was vehemently against SpongeBob spin-offs😢. Alas, for Nickelodeon, money is now more important than fans😩.
Tumblr media
However, fans have a chance to get revenge on Nickelodeon for everything. Based on those concept art, storyboards, as well as our own conjectures, we can work together to restore the lost film about SpongeBob. After all, who, if not fans, know what an perfect film should be😏
Tumblr media
Someone will say that this is impossible, but I will say that it is not. For example, a guy named JChaseFilms managed to make an entire movie about SpongeBob in the real world. We can say that we will raise him the idea for a new film, dragging him into such a global project. Together we are strong!

21 asks, some old some new, all basically just heart warming compliments. ♡ඩᴗඩ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’re welcome!! And thank you so much!! Something I always love to do with characters like this is give them some crazy depth. Give answers for things that the media they’re from never answers. I always work really hard to make it all fit together and really feel natural and I’m so happy you noticed! (இ﹏இ`。)
Tumblr media
I’ll be sure to. I’m still feeling really crummy mentally, but taking a break from my lovely community of fans certainly didn’t make me feel any better. XD
Tumblr media
Pfff Kitty cat Pirate man XD
Well you’re sort of right. Captain Barnacles is my favorite character 100%, but the reason why I draw those two together so often is because the show has established that they are really good friends.
Where ever the Captain is, Kwazii is usually nearby. Kwazii was the only one that knew about the Captains fear, Kwazii is the Octonauts lieutenant, which probably means that they spend a lot time around each other. They share a bed pod, they have had these little interactions that don’t happen with anyone else. Like fist bumps, shoulder pats etc.
They’re even used as an example of symbiosis in the crab and urchin episode! Now, you can interpret that how you’d like, but I believe the show is somewhat subtly trying to push the point that these two are best friends, like family even.
So when ever I draw Captain Barnacles, I always have an incentive to draw Kwazii with him. :}
Tumblr media
Honestly by my headcannons, I feel like Kwazii would need it more than anyone else really. But yeah, the Captain could really use me a pick me up. XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dawww you’re welcome, I’m just glad everyone likes my art so much. ♡●ᴗ●♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Th-Thank you!! That’s so sweet!! I’ll Be sure to keep making them!- Be sure to drop in some suggestions you guys so I know what ya’ll want to see!! :}
Tumblr media
COMMERE YOU
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(before I left for a break)
Well I may have needed more time to “relax”, but I just missed you guys too much lol.
Tumblr media
Wow! That’s a lot of shows! I don’t recall really watching.. any of them.. any way uh- that aside, there are several shows I used to watch as a kid. Some weren’t meant for kids but were still funny to me.
For one, like I’m sure a lot of people did, I watched SpongeBob.
Tumblr media
I also used to watch, of course, Octonauts. Although that was when I was a wee bit older.
Tumblr media
I also used to watch The Three Stooges.. this one was for adults I think but it was still hilarious.
Tumblr media
I also used to watch Beetle Baily, although this one was kind of like a once a year tradition type thing we did.
Tumblr media
There may be one or two more but I don’t recall.. I mean, we did have one episode of speed racer that I watched over and over and over again. Or.. was it a movie? Heh, I uh, cant really recall..
Tumblr media
(after my break announcement)
Thank you, turns out taking a break from Tumblr kind’a just made me miss the community. I felt really awful while I was gone but feel a little better after returning sooo.... guess I’m hangin around for a little while longer! :}
Tumblr media
No I don’t ship anyone personally, although I can see how some of their dynamics could be seen like that.
Tumblr media
Oh! No worries, that’s alright, and that thing is in the description as a heads up kind’a. If I tag my own art as ship or explicitly say it is okay to do so, then go for it. I just don't usually ship characters and don't want my art to be perceived incorrectly..
Tumblr media
I have watched both Octonauts movies and season 1-3 on Netflix. When it comes to season 4, so far I haven't had much trouble just finding it on YouTube.
When it comes to watching season 4 in order, just go to the episode wiki, find the names in order and keep searching on YouTube until you’re sure you’re on the right episode. Pretty sure you can find basically all the Octonauts episode this way, go ahead and give it a shot! Hope it works!
Tumblr media
To keep the fourth wall breaking to a minimum, what would my Transformer OCs think of Octonauts?
Suburban, A.T.Dragster, Green Truck, Escort, Vega, Red Van, Brown Suburban, Miata, AND Honda, most likely wouldn't really be interested and wouldn’t really have an opinion on the show, but they don't make fun of anyone who does watch it. No matter how old. Volvo specifically would respect the educational aspect of the show and most likely wouldn’t pick on anyone for watching it either.
U.M.Dragster would kind’a poke fun at the show and its imperfections. But low key is peeking around the corner wanting to know what the characters do next.
White Truck thinks it pretty cool and kind’a likes to watch it with others, but wont really go out of his way to watch it on his own.
Beluga would probably think its really cute, bet 10 bucks her favorite character is Kwazii.
Ranger would be hooked. She loves everything about Earths water and want’s to learn everything about it. Including the creatures that live in it. She would appreciate the show “dumbing everything down” for her, because she doesn’t know these basic things that kids know. Having everything “dumbed down” makes it easier for her to understand everything.
Jeepy’s driver used to make fun of me for watching it, but now he thinks it neat. So maybe he’d think its silly but eventually come around?
Bash Buggy cant see the screen-
But really Its cool though, he wouldn’t be all that interested in it even if he could watch it anyway.

Oh how cool! I never thought so many people grew up watching this too, I thought this show was really obscure! Glad I can share the nostalgia and joy with ya’ll through my art! :}

Hmmmm.... let me think.. I feel like my Transformer OCs would mostly like certain aspects of seasonal things, not one season and all of its aesthetics as a whole.
Suburban, Red Van, Escort, Brown Suburban and Green Truck love the bonfire part of colder weather. The warm, bright and surrounded by loved ones aspect of it is what they enjoy. Especially Brown Suburban. He loves bonfires man. The more light and heat the better, that poor mech is freezing his aft off out there in that old manky dark shed all by himself. He just wants to be around his loved ones where its warm and bright.
Miata would probably like pumpkin spice lattes, and just that aspect of fall. Beluga and Honda however would be all over fall and all its traditions. They’d be all over every season really, always up to date with trends and having fun.
The Dragsters are all about summer and its aesthetics. Summer is the prime time for dragstrips and the weather they function most efficiently in so they’re all for it.
Vega is more about fall. Sure its not really racing weather, but he does like all the pretty colors and the temperature is just right for him.
White Truck would like summer the most. He’d like the attire, the swimming, the warmth, all of it. He’d function a little on the edge I’d think though, he does have a bit of an overheating issue.. but still, I think summers for the win.
Ranger would like summer. Summer = more fish in the water. She loves to look at fish and be out in the water and just explore everything. Summer is when most of the fish are around so she’d really enjoy that. When it comes to seasonal outfits and food? Meh, waters cooler.
Volvo doesn't care for any weather or aesthetics honestly. But would prefer fall for its cooler temperatures. Having so many layers of armor is bound to make you overheat eventually.
Jeepy would like the fall and winter most of all, because of MUD. Going slipin, driftin and slidin with Bash is a real hoot, so he’d really like those seasons. He’s just built for them you know? Plus he’d kill a man for a glass of eggnog so he likes that aspect of cooler seasons too. :}
Bash Buggy likes summer and spring for the temperatures mostly. He also likes winter and fall, but because of the mud, he doesn’t like them for any other reason. Just the mud and goofing around with Jeepy. Everything else about those cold seasons are terrible, and he cant even see all the pretty colors and aesthetics so what does it matter? His body has no insulation anymore so the cold just eats him up, and he cant go outside in the snow because of his blindness and the cold. So he’s stuck shivering indoors while his friends go goof around in the snow without him. Colder seasons suck besides mud, the warmer ones are a win.

I don’t know, it just kind’a makes me uncomfortable. Not all artists are the same, not all artists like that.
It kind of feels like stealing to me in a way, I just don’t like it..
Tumblr media
I want to, but I am completely halted by the knowledge that these comics don’t get much traction. They only get a handful of notes when I post them, which just makes them feel like a waste of time.
I’m weird about time. I don't like talking about my interests with others because I know I’m wasting their time and they don’t care anyway.
I am heavily discouraged to draw things online, not just because people steal, but because only a handful of people truly care and get excited about them.
And I mean, a handful of lovely followers, is a handful lovely followers. But you can see how a people pleaser like me would drift towards what people want me to draw instead of what I want to draw.
And when it comes to what people want me to draw? Besides those lovely few, people don’t want to see my comics.

Name: Sir Real
Debut: Atlantis SquarePantis
SpongeBob SquarePants is a series with a lot of episodes, and a lot of weird one-off characters, a lot of which slip under the radar. It’s really unfortunate, considering how wonderful and charismatic some of them are! But while most get at least one fan, I’ve hardly seen anyone talk about Sir Real... and it’s time we make that change!
Sir Real, who only appears briefly in the Season 5 episode “Atlantis SquarePantis” often flies right under peoples’ noses, considering how he only shows up to sing one line in the middle of Squidward’s song, and that is it. The special is like, 45 minutes long, and there’s so, so much that happens that a quaint character like Sir Real gets so little acknowledgement that most people just think he’s a weird version of Squidward! What a pity! He doesn’t even have a page on the SpongeBob Wiki, and they have pages on everything.
“From now on, please call me Sir Real” - Sir Real, Atlantis SquarePantis (2007)
Sir Real, however, made an impression with us! His name is a pun on the word “surreal,” and what a strange character design he has! His face dangling from a long branch-like arm, this isn’t a body plan you’d see in most traditional media, but SpongeBob has always been one to think outside the box! Sure, “Atlantis SquarePantis” might not be the show’s best episode, but Sir Real leaves quite an impression to the more careful observer, and is easily the episode’s highlight.
Fortunately, Sir Real’s brief cameo has been getting a lot of attention on line, and it appears the SpongeBob writers have caught on... check out this leaked title card, from Season 13!
