#Taishou period

I've never actually made a full on whumper characters, like, with a well writen story and personality. Usually I just make it an accident and make a caretaker lol.
Also I picture this being set in medieval japan, but I haven't decided which period exactly...? Like, I initially though about it bening set in taishou period (like demon slayer), but most people associate youkai with sengoku and edo period, but also if it's just all made up It would probably be easier, yet unprecise... so uh...
here goes nothing...
Tumblr media
Kouji
(not so sure of that name yet)
29 years old
He is a very gentle temple keeper. everybody knows and loves him! it's quite a small village, so despite his shyness and clumsyness he manages to maintain a great relationship with everyone, especially after he restored the local temple.
People's impression:
initially everyone thought he looked dangerous, a pretty tough guy, but turns out he is just a silly guy.
People usually ask him to help them with big heavy things.
kids love it when he picks them up, but he doesn't do it very often, since he is always busy caring for them temple.
most animals fear him, probably because of his size.
job:
temple keeper
he runs a small temple and performs some rituals to keep oni and youkai away, mostly.
origins:
One day he just showed up at the old temple. Rumors are that he escaped an youkai attack at some nearby village.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚***•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚***•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
Tumblr media
Hanzō
(also not sure about the name :/)
(click on read more, uncensored version)
23... 26... uh...??? years old (youkai year counting?)
A (half) dragon youkai kept sealed under the temple, it's been a while since he saw the daylight, or moonlight... His blood and tears are often used in rituals at the temple, but most people don't know it... Oddly enough, He doesn't seem to complain.
people's impression:
Hanzō has only been seen a few times by even fewer people, mostly the rich and powerfull, to prove the temple's magic is legit.
the ones who saw him were suspicious at first, but the looking closely at the tongue, tail and horns it's undoubtfull.
he isn't seen as person, more like a product or cattle.
job:
his blood, tears, teeth, tongue, etc... are used in rituals at the temple (but I wouldn't call that a job lmao).
origins:
his mother was a very powerfull youkai, but his father was a human man.
both humans and youkais would constantly hunt him, but he always managed to get away. One day however, things were diferent... he hadn't had food in the last 8 days, his ankle was twisted, it was the begining of the winter, he was already weak... but he thought he could get at least something to eat from a human house, Kouji's house.
Tumblr media
when Hanzou isn't being used in rituals he is just Kouji's doll/punching bag...

My unpopular take: yes, One Piece is difficult to adapt into a hollywood live action, but it's easier to adapt than fucking Naruto or Bleach for the simple reason that seeing a bunch of westerners run around as ninja or shinigami is never NOT gonna be cringy as hell. At least pirates aren't a specifically Japanese concept.

Pride Month Special- How Yandere Parents React To You Coming Out
a/n: happy pride month everyone!
tw: coming out, implied/mentioned homophobia
Gojo- This giant absolute menace of a man I swear to god, you don’t have to worry about him being supportive or anything like that, no. What you have to worry about is how over the top he goes. Man’s organizing parades, making banners, literally everything. It doesn’t matter how many times you beg him to stop because he’s embarrassing you, you’re his baby and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t show his unconditional support and love. He’s definitely telling everyone too, if you’re out that is, just won’t shut the hell up. Nanami cannot count the amount of times Gojo has gushed about you and how proud he is of you. Of course you’re dying of embarrassment in the corner, but he’s doing this all out of love for you.
Sukuna- He’s definitely a little confused. Not in a bad way or anything, he just doesn’t understand immediately. You’ll have to take the time to explain it to him but once he gets it he’ll be so supportive, but more subtle about it. He won’t be throwing over the top parades or anything like that, but he will 500% find a way to mention in it in all his conversations. Like he’ll be doing curse king shit or something and then one of his vassals will start talking about the most irrelevant topic in regards to your sexuality. But those that stop Sukuna from worming in how his precious child is queer and how amazing they are? Nope! He’ll talk about it for hours then make it seem like the vassal has committed some sort of deadly crime when they try to change the conversation back to the original topic. It’s even better if he finds out with reader who’s reincarnated into Yuji’s older sibling because they’re in their twenties and have been out for a couple of years now, so it’s not a big thing and probably comes up in casual conversation. Sukuna’s gonna rupture poor Yuji’s eardrum because he yelled so loud. He was utterly shocked, he was fine with your identity, but how could you not tell him?? And your poor brother is gonna have to deal with all of Sukuna’s tantrums about you not telling him whenever you walk into the room. Eventually he mellows out though, he’ll deal with your lie by omission once he has you in his grasp again.
Oberyn Martell + Ellaria Sand- Original bi disaster couple, no one can convince me otherwise. Anyways both are pretty chill with it, I mean they probably knew already, they’re very supportive of course! Your siblings, the sand snakes, are too. Dorne is a very free and modern country in terms of opinions, not to mention you’re a child of a prince so you enjoy a lot more freedom to express yourself than others. And if someone does have a problem with, they best keep it to themselves or else they’ll have a furious red viper and his equally enraged sand snakes after them.
Levi Ackerman- He’s quite mild about it, to be honest. He’s not unsupportive, just quite about it. Not out of shame but just that he’s generally closed-off. Also, he believes that you should be able to share your identity based on your own terms. He’s very happy that you felt comfortable enough to share it with him though. He definitely made you tea when you came out too. Of course if he hears anything about anyone having a problem with it, well let’s just say that you will be the least of their problems from then on.
Tengen + His Wives- They’re all so happy! Especially since you trusted them enough to tell them. Tengen definitely brags about his flamboyant kid and how spectacular they are. He buys you and himself a ton of pride shit, I don’t care that demon slayer takes place in the Taishou period, this man will make custom pride merch, just for you. Suma cries as per usual, I headcanon all of them as queer but Suma is canonically bi! So, I imagine her crying tears of happiness and joy that you’re like her in a way and that she understands. Makio is aggressively supportive, like shove it down your throat kind of supportive but supportive nonetheless. Hinatsuru is pretty calm about it, she just wants you to know that she loves you unconditionally.
Muzan- He’s kind of like Sukuna in a way, as in he’s confused. Unlike Sukuna he probably understands what it means he’s mostly confused on how he didn’t know immediately. He is supportive though! And if his confusion hurts you, he’ll immediately apologize. You’re his sweet child, no matter how old you really are, so he’ll support and love you regardless of anything. After he’s done apologizing and you forgive him, you can guilt him into doing pretty much anything for you, which you probably could do just with a hug and puppy dog eyes! If there’s one thing Muzan won’t tolerate, it’s people slighting you, so you can guarantee that you won’t be receiving anything less than the highest praises from everyone.
Light Yagami + Misa Amane- They’re both completely supportive of you, though they show it in different ways. Misa is over the top enthusiastic about it. She starts doing LGBTQ+ campaigns, wearing pride merch, signing brand deals promoting it, basically everything and anything she can to prove she is the greatest ally in the entire world, all for you. Light is subtler in his approach. He’s happy thar you’re happy and that’s pretty much it. He’ll do little things to support you, such as boycott homophobic brands and celebrities, wear small pride pins and all that. Either way, they both support you unconditionally. And if anyone says anything to you, you can bet their getting the most painful and humiliating death possible.
Erasermic- Oh! They’ve been expecting this forever! Aizawa has probably known since the start and subtlety let Hizashi in on it, who was extremely excited. They support you and make sure to reassure you about that every day. They’re like Light and Misa in the aspect that Aizawa is very calm regarding your identity while Hizashi supports you with over the top gestures. You know they love you though, and are grateful for them.

What areas did Taishou and Sesshoumaru rule over?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately there is no official map that shows for what's owned in the series but there are some for real life!
The dog demon clan hailed from Saigoku. That's the "Western lands" of Japan. Kaede's Village is where Tokyo is to this day.
Ironically now for modern times there's something called the "Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage" they go through the 33 Buddhist temples on the Kansai region of Japan. Saigoku was really an old term that was also sometimes pronounced as "Saikoku" but today it is called "Kansai" ! "Saigoku" is Kansai (関西), the area of western Japan centering on Kyoto https://www.thetempleguy.org/p/saigoku-33-kannon-route.html Those areas are Hyogo, Kyoto, Shiga, Osaka, Nara and Wakayama
Tumblr media
www.travel-around-japan.com/k60-00-kansai-reg.html
Just to note there's a Mistranslation in the Viz media English version of the Yashahime manga that said Taishou came from China but it's actually Saigoku, which is Western lands of Japan it was even addressed on Takashi Shiina's Twitter page. Incase people were confused. https://twitter.com/Takashi_Shiina/status/1542931034517700608 一カ所、「西国」が「Ancient China(古代中国)」と訳されてたので、「これは<日本の西にある国>ではなく、<日本国の西地方>という意味です」と伝言をお願いしておいた。電子版では近日直してもらえるかも。 In one place, ``Saigoku'' was translated as ``Ancient China,'' so I sent a message saying, ``This does not mean ``the country to the west of Japan,'' but ``the western region of Japan.'' I asked for it. The digital version may be fixed soon.
You can see very good maps for history here:
https://timemaps.com/history/japan-1453ad/
For reference on what era you want to look at for InuYasha it's during the 1540s, this was mentioned in InuYasha wide edition #4
In Yashahime manga chapter 23 they're at Sakai. In feudal Japan Sakai is the center of commerce.
Taishou died in the Kamakura period within a castle in Kamakura city. That's 1185-1333 There's been many changes on the earth since those times as well as tsunamis and even seasonal cycles because of tilts. Japan has certainly shrunk over the years because these situations. We also know he's been alive since the Heian period 794-1185 because of how he uses the Dono honorific when talking to Zero and also within the timeline. Midoriko and the Jewel was created in the Heian period according to the InuYasha profiles book timeline.
Kirinmaru, Riku and Rion are from mainland China, yes. In fact Kirinmaru is based on the Qilin of myths and legends which originate from China which were first attested in 5th century BCE which ironically lines up with what Katsuyuki Sumisawas said in Animage May 2021 about him being alive since the era of myth and that he may have seen Buddha or Jesus Christ in the Flesh but not Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit.
There are some maps within the series, like Mount Hakurei, Horai Island from the fourth movie. Also the video game counterparts which were all supervised by Rumiko-sensei. - Admin

Was Nobunaga actually already the “shogun” without having the “Sei’i Taishougun” title?
This was a theory that I found while trying to study the bureaucratic protocols and norms of the Sengoku. It suggested that Nobunaga’s reign did too have the approval from the imperial court, and he didn’t need to take over the “Sei’i Taishougun” title from shogun Yoshiaki.
After ousting Yoshiaki, Nobunaga was awarded the titles Dainagon (Major counselor) and Ukonoe no Daishou (General of the Right, also sometimes shortened as simply “Udaishou”). These are titles that the shogun traditionally also held, as the “Sei’i Taishougun” title is something of a unique title that is separate from the imperial hierarchy. Upon these appointment, Nobunaga was allowed to be addressed by the honourific address that usually only the shogun has: ue-sama.
Some people thought that this means the imperial court has acknowledged that Yoshiaki’s authority is over, and Nobunaga is in charge now, even though he does not have the “Sei’i Taishogun” position at this point.
The logic for that theory was that in that time period, the Udaishou was the highest imperial office that someone of the samurai class could have, hence the tradition of having the shogun also hold that post. The higher ranking Sakonoe no Daishou/Sadaishou post, the General of the Left, was traditionally held by the noble houses.
Shogun Yoshiaki and his brother Yoshiteru before him did not have Dainagon and Udaishou titles, and the last Ashikaga shogun to also have the aforementioned titles was their father Yoshiharu. Yoshiaki and Yoshiteru’s official court title was only up to the Sakonoe no Chuujou (Lieutenant-General of the Left), one rank under the Taishou.
Because in the imperial hierarchy Nobunaga’s Udaishou post outranks Yoshiaki’s Sakonoe no Chuujou, the theory posits that he is already acknowledged by the imperial court as the new ruler replacing Yoshiaki. That is, he is the “new shogun” (i.e the samurai ruler of the land), even though he does not actually have the literal “shogun” title.
What will change if this theory turns out to be true?
For one, it further confirms the idea that Nobunaga is not as wildly "out there” as most people thought he was. He still operated within the standard norms of the time period and adhered to the established traditions, and didn’t just smash his way through the court and government without regard to the customs.
Also, if this theory is true, it would debunk all the Honnouji conspiracies that involve any variation of “the imperial court feared Nobunaga’s power/ambition”. If Nobunaga ruled with the approval of the imperial court, then all that backstage plotting makes no sense.
And the last thing is that this theory being true would also further lend credibility to the other theory saying that Nobunaga wished to return the power to the emperor and do away with the concept of a “shogunate rule”. After all, the specialty-designation “shogun” title was the very proof of the samurai rule breaking away from and undermining the imperial court. Nobunaga choosing to not take the shogun post, and instead adhering to the “standard” imperial court ranks, was thought to be proof that he’s returning to the old imperial rule rather than following  the path of the “samurai/shogunate rule”.
Of course this is just a theory, and it only spawns more theories and what-ifs. I still find this worthwhile to consider because I’m realising that I don’t actually know what the rules and norms of the government of that time period is like. Even though in practice the daimyou and other local rulers largely disregard the central government (the shogun and the emperor both), I do see proof that the various rites and protocols still has to be performed. It means that the bureaucracy still matters to some degree, and learning about how this whole system works is something that is necessary to properly understand the Sengoku environment.

I like to translate things in my spare time and am particularly interested in translating anything and everything Edogawa Ranpo related, and I was sitting on a few projects, so a while ago I decided to translate an old article about Edogawa-sensei and his actual love for sweets!
You can find the original article here. ♥
[ Edogawa Ranpo had a sweet tooth?! Ranpo visited Ikebukuro Mihara-do ]
Edogawa Ranpo. Whenever someone hears this name, the image of the famed writer may come to mind. What kind of person was this great man who was the driving force behind detective and mystery novels, a genre that had not yet been established in Japan at the time, and who created such unusual settings as "Hell of Mirrors" and "The Human Chair"?
“Actually, he had a really big sweet tooth.” “To the cameras, he carried himself as a true pro.” “But to me, he was just a nice old man.”
Hirai Kentaro-san, his grandson, told us about such an unexpected side.
Here, we will try to get closer to the "real face" of Edogawa Ranpo, whom no one knows about.
Edogawa began his career as a writer in earnest around the age of 30. He created masterpieces such as The murder on D street, The fiend with 20 faces, The Human Chair, and The Boy’s Detective club. Active as a critic and producer after the war, he established detective and mystery novels as a literary genre by developing the Japanese detective novel world together with his friend Yokomizo Seishi, a member of the ‘Detective Hobbyists Club’.
TN: Yokomizo Seishi is the same Yokomizo that is Oguri's close friend in Bungou Stray Dogs
“My grandfather’s friends would often visit, bringing all kinds of gifts,” Recalls Hirai Kentaro.
He had a wide circle of friends, celebrities in all kinds of professions, who would bring local sweets when they visited. Ranpo, who was not particularly a fan of alcohol, seemed to have quite the sweet tooth.
“My grandfather really loved sweets. He especially liked iced red bean.”
TN: It’s essentially like if you made red bean soup into a slushie. (see images here.)
TN pt 2: This preference for red bean is actually referenced in Bungou Stray Dogs, as in the "Untold Story of the Founding of the Agency", Ranpo exclusively eats the red bean provided in the red bean soup he orders due to Fukuzawa's generosity, because the mochi in it isn't sweet enough for his liking. It's a cute reference that makes me so emotional :")
It was the Taishou Era. During that time, there were no electric refrigerators, so to keep his refrigerator cool, Ranpo would buy ice from Ice Houses and use some of the ice to make shaved ice.
People began eating shaved ice in Japan near the end of the Edo Period, after Yokohama’s port was opened. At that time, it was said only the wealthy were able to eat it because it was so expensive. Although the industrial revolution that occurred in the late 1890s led to the development of ice machines, it was not until the rapid economic growth of the postwar period that ice spread to the general public.
Ranpo, who moved 46 times throughout his career, made a large house in Ikebukuro his final residence. He often visited Ikebukuro’s Mihara-do, a long-established Japanese Wagashi shop located a five-minute walk from the west exit of Ikebukuro, to buy sweets.
In “This world is a dream [Utsushiyo wa yume]”, Ranpo wrote that since it was founded in 1937, Mihara-do watched the growth of the city alongside him.
“When I was talking about my favorite store, the first thing that came to my mind was the sweets from Mihara-do in front of Ikebukuro West Exit Station. That store is probably one of the most prominent Ikebukuro specialties.”
Ranpo was particularly fond of the “Yam Manjuu”. Made with refined and moist azuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, and wrapped in a high-quality yam skin, these Manjuu look just as they did back then. The wrapping paper that gives the image of manuscript paper is very nice.
Even now, in front of the gates of Rikkyo University, all that remains of Ranpo’s residence is his storehouse which is referred to as “Ranpo’s storehouse”.
The Busse come in two flavors to represent the modern image of Ranpo — a bittersweet apricot jam and a rich cheese butter.
TN: A ‘Busse’ is a type of sweet that looks a bit like a cream puff or cream sandwich.
Edogawa Ranpo was a man who pursued his passion for food, making iced red bean at home and frequenting sweet shops.
Warp back to the Taisho Era with a sweet treat from Mihara-do, a place that fascinated even Ranpo!

Following/unfollowing/interacting
If I follow you, means I'm interested in playing with you. And if you follow me-I may follow you back-if not don't take it personally. I may still play with you. It depends. I only follow RP blogs; AND I'm A-OKAY with doubles. :)
OC’s, AU’s and crossovers
🏹AUS: Love 'em! But the stipulation is-I have to know the fandom you're from. Message me and ask~ I know a LOT of fandoms. So odds are I'll know where your muse is from. :)
🏹OCS: I have nothing against OCs, as I play very openly with them on other RP blogs, but for This RP blog, I don't really want to play with them. I'm sorry!
 Shipping and relationships
🏹 Chemistry shipping only. No forced ships. Smut may happen, and if it does-only high chemistry ships will go down, and ONLY with muns/muses that are 18+.
🏹 That said-no pre-existing relationships. If Kagome didn't know your muse in the canon, then she won't till she's met you IC.
🏹 On a side note: SesshKag; Inu no Taishou/Kag; and NarKag are *huge* NoTPs for me.
 The Ask Box
Drop me a line anytime~ Memes, ideas, or questions. I will not RP off the Ask-I request that if you want to start a thread off of an ask, make a separate post and tag me in it. And I will do the same for you. :)
 Writing Style/Thread Disclaimer
🏹I tend to do multi-para RP, but I am very willing to do one-liners and crack! RP.
🏹I reserve the right to drop threads, or not respond to anything I do not wish to. Also-I may take forever and a year-but most of the time I will get back to you. I do have OTHER muses that take up my time too. :) Pester me non-stop and it will result in a block.
On Yashahime
I do not like the series. Period. However-I will RP with muses from it; as long as they are completely anime divergent. That is all.

[teikoku star] vol. 3: sanji - track one
Tumblr media
1; the curtain rises
masterpost
                                                                                    ✿
[00:02] The Taisho Era.
The setting, Japan.
Marunouchi in Tokyo - also known as the capital of flowers.
Today, the theatre.
Tomorrow, the department store.
The financial boom following the First World War caused the city to overflow with Western culture.
Our curtain rises here, on the Grand Imperial Theatre.
Up the great staircase and through the heavy industrial doors is a room with golden walls and thousands of guests.
In the centre, an illustrious chandelier.
The end of the Meiji period.
A man from a wealthy family decides he longs to create a theatre not unlike a Western opera house.
This theatre, build with such a grand dream in mind…
On its stage stands a man so beautiful he could be a woman.
Ah!
Do you really have no choice but to leave?
Then… Can you at least rest your hands on my shoulders for tonight?
[01:37] Before the fire in your heart burns out…
I watch to etch it into my body.
                                                                                    ✿
[02:18] Oi!
Who’s in charge of this outfit?
This costume is absolutely useless!
I swear I told you that during rehearsal!
The most important part of this performance is me, you know?!
So what the hell is this shabby outfit?!
I don’t look like a woman from an affluent family at all in this!
Sort it out before the performance starts again!
That hurt.
You’re in my way.
It’s cramped backstage as it is.
All you’re doing is getting in the way, spacing out back here.
Seriously…
All you stagehands are useless.
What?
Are you new or something?
Don’t just dawdle around here.
Hurry back to your post.
Do you still need something?
How honoured I am, that you liked my acting.
[03:49] A bold flash of scarlet lipstick.
Lips, overflowing with electrifying sex appeal.
Beautifully applied makeup.
A gorgeous costume.
The blinding lights of the stage.
Adorned with all these, he shone like one of the sparkling stars in the sky.
Today, the theatre.
Tomorrow, the department store.
The financial boom following the First World War caused the city to overflow with Western culture.
Our curtain rises on our story of young love in the Taisho era.
Taishou Guuzou Roman - Teikoku Star.
Let the play begin!

Detective thinking in MAO.
One of the thrills of Takahashi's  series, MAO, is the mysteries hidden within. That the series is powerfull is a thing i’ve explained in my previos posts: https://ashitakaxsan.tumblr.com/post/643663843927687168/why-takahashi-rumikos-mao-is-blast
https://ashitakaxsan.tumblr.com/post/677783666893651968/poor-reviews-about-mao
In preparation for craftng the series she stated that she read all of Agatha Christie's works,to better understand how a mystery manga should be structured. One of those is:Who applied the Immortality spell on these disciples in the Gokou mannor?
The Detective's analyzing
At the first chapters it seems that onmyouji Mao is the only Immortal .But as the series unfolds Mao(to his astonishment)encounters fellow disciples from the Gokou clan.Hyakka,Kamon,Shiranui,Hakubi and Natsuno.
In the conversation Hyakka reeals to Mao and Nanoka that the Gokou Master summoned his fellow onmyodo practictioners  in the Five Sided Shrine, and tasked them to kill off the unassuming young man. He promises his daughter, Sana, to Mao with the reall intention that Mao will die as a target for the true heir.

So it turns out that the marriage promise was a Ruse.
In chapter 29,with the introduction of Kamon, Mao pointedly asks his former felow onmyouji, "Kamon! How are you still alive?" Kamon turns and says, "I'd like to know the answer to that myself."  Just  few chapters later the story engulfs the legendary technique of Taizanfukun, named after the Chinese god capable of granting immortality.
Below the historical person Abe No Seimei, during the 10th century (the Heian period)
Tumblr media
After the so many fights ,the chilling revelations Mao,in chapter 123,discusses with Nanoka his suspicions about the how his fellow disciples became immortals.
I’m telling you that Abe No Seimei isn’t the very Gokou master. Cause actually the Gokou master stood the opposite to what Seimei believed for. Seimei fought against Evil Yokai, the other one worked hard with his Clan on professional curses
Tumblr media
 I deduce by whom:
-Who believed he could use people in any way he demanded and that he would be unpunished?
-Who was the only allowed to access the Taizanfukun technique of prolonging lifes of humans?
-Who said ,in the five Sided Shrine ”Mao’s life is a sacrifice for the good of all of us”?
Each one and al these:The Gokou Master. He was the one who secretly applied this technique, having decided to make eternal the clan,so used Mao’s life as exchange.
He planned it nearly perfectly…But with out counting on someone  Crucial around there.
Tumblr media
It’s true that Mokuzu turned Haimaru into the cat demon, but who orchestrated this plan and why?
I figure that it was the Taizanfukunn God, who likely was enraged with this selfish Gokou Instructor’s decision. So he decided to trigger haimaru becoming into Byoki.Plus it’s why it ate the Taizanfukun scrolls:The God decided:Never again this technique to be used by humans.
And what sort of things will happen?
Maonoka one day will figure the Truth. And(in order to  vanquish the Gokou)they have to find how to reverse the technique, to become normal ones.No more the immortality spell.

reading demon slayer: chapter 10 name breakdown
we enter the double digits in demon slayer chapters with just 3 simple names. let's jump right in.
the first new name we're given is
和巳
read as かずみ. this is the name of the poor young man who tanjirou meets in the beginning of the chapter. if you are already somewhat familiar with japanese names, this one might sound a bit feminine to you. in actuality, it is gender neutral, but depending on how it is written it may come off as more feminine or more masculine. women with the name かずみ tend to write it with the character 美 (read as み), which is a very common kanji for feminine names.
the way かずみ is written in chapter 10 is, in my opinion, a little more masculine. the first character, 和 (read as かず), means peace. the second character, 巳 (み), represents the sixth sign of the chinese zodiac--the snake. 和巳 is then literally peace snake. less literally you could interpret it as meaning peaceful snake.
as you might recall from chapter 8's name breakdown, the chinese zodiac is related to a broader calendar system that is in turn related to traditional chinese philosophical concepts such as yin and yang, the five elements, and the cardinal directions. the zodiac signs themselves are no exception. though the followings meanings are obsolete, i thought they were worth knowing.
in the past, 巳 also referred to the hour of the snake, which could mean either 10 AM or the two hour period from 9-11 AM. the fourth month of the lunar calendar was called 巳月, or snake month. and it was used to refer to the compass direction of south-southeast as well. again, if you have any interest in chinese astrology or philosophy, please go read up on it. it's fascinating and i don't have nearly the knowledge to adequately explain it.
the next name is
里子
read as さとこ. this is the name of kazumi's girlfriend, who was taken by a demon prior to tanjirou's arrival in town. like 美, the character 子 (こ) is a very common kanji used in feminine names. it means child. 里 (さと) means village, countryside, hometown. together we get village child. perhaps she was fond of her home, or maybe her parents wanted her to be.
the last name is
トキエ
and if you can't read katakana, now is a great time to start learning. this is the name of the girl who gets taken in chapter 10. we only learn her name from gotouge in the taishou secret gossip section. it is not written in kanji, which is actually fairly common. using only kana is a typically feminine and trendy thing to do. it also means that there is no deeper meaning to the name; it is just a series of sounds.
that brings us to the end of another name breakdown. thanks for reading, and please look forward to the next posts! 読んでくれてありがとう!次の投稿を楽しみにしてください!

On the topic of homophobia in Japan though I do hope that changes someday. So many reports of the creator of kny being homophobic exist. However some people say it’s because in the timeline kny exist that lgbtq wasn’t a thing and people were practicing only straight, while others claiming they were homophobic- I personally think it was option one since back then that was practically illegal
Kny is literally set in the Taishou period, so yes LGBTQA+ wasn't even practice in the time period. So that is why most ships are canonically hetrosexual.
