You don't have to be a Chuck Won truther to think that something's off about Jack and to notice things and it doesn't mean that Chuck Won if there are Jack and Chuck echoes. This canon works heavily in parallels, does not mean thing A IS thing B, it can highlight similarities. It is wanting you to notice the echoes. It's Jack. Not Chuck. Where I'm at now is the god power is affecting Jack. And about themes of free will. Jack's admonishments are not going to do it to help Dean reach full peace, full self acceptance, to realize he can have a happy ending of his own, rather than just give it to others. Jack's finger wagging, all-knowing air. No that's not how this works. Dean's going to have to go through it and i'll be up to Dean himself to reach peace.

Aside from world between worlds setting off my thoughts on Star Wars parallels, just as a talking point (altho Robbie is a SW fan, these are likely deliberate), I'm having thoughts about the jedi order and their good intentions that couldn't prevent the damages of its flaws. I'm thinking about...Ahsoka. And Anakin. On one size fits all mindsets that turned out to be disastrous. On outdated thinking that needed to move forward. About Luke literally burning down old thinking. And then, about the MoL and their good intentions and their limited thinking.

Jack, serene, powerful, all-knowing air is not actually The Answer. (Again, this can be a thing without it being Chuck Won).

And we've seen how power has corrupted characters. I don't think this is a simple possession. It's about power. And I'm seeing a bunch of red flags. That doesn't mean Chuck Won. I also would be wary of a completely uncritical view of Jack where Jack's the all knowing always right deity figure. Dean's going to find his own path. And Jack can be a problem, an arc, themes on free will and how power corrupts, without it being full blown "oh noes Jack is possessed by Chuck."

What I hope they're doing-- and what it sort of seems like they're doing on The Winchesters, as far as John and Mary's "love story" goes, is purposely shape it in the same way that Supernatural accidentally shaped Dean and Cas's.

I think that's the only way it can really make sense.

The John we're meeting in the prequel is quiet-- considerate, yet curious and headstrong. He's a little nervous about "breaking rank" from the expectations that surround him, but as soon as he collides with Mary (literally) then he's emboldened to start down a new path. Sure-- he has his own motives. He has his own plans, but Mary is the pleasantly unexpected hitch in them; so he rearranges his plans in order to make room for her.

And isn't that exactly what Castiel did?

Dean Winchester was never supposed to be anything other than a tool he wielded in the name of heaven; but then they collided-- Dean stabbed him, punched him, shot him with every gun he had, and Castiel looked past it all and just saw a man. A wonderfully courageous man. So, out went heaven's plans. Out went his divine duty-- mostly ... and thus began the angel's constant struggle with "right and wrong".

Dean's rights and heaven's wrongs.

And Dean of course, got blindsided by all this too. He was immediately taken by the angel; and the more time they spent together, the more he unknowingly came to depend on Castiel-- until the idea of losing him would drive him literally insane. Losing Cas made him tortured and brutal and suicidal and relentless.

He would risk Benny's life just to save Cas from purgatory.

He would risk himself just to break Cas free from Naomi.

Time and time again, he threw just about everyone and everything to the wolves in order to keep Cas at his side ... and we all saw it for what it was-- love.

So, wouldn't it make sense if John and Mary's love story was shaped in the same way? We already know how it ends. We already know how tortured, brutal, suicidal and relentless John became once Mary died.

The only difference was-- children were involved.

And of course, that should have changed things. He should have considered his boys before leaping headfirst into the hunting life; but in The Winchesters, I can see a lot of Dean in both young John and Mary. I can see his compassion and his drive and his devotion to family. John is already exhibiting so much of that, plus Sam's need to break free and try to change his own future. It's all colliding within himself and breaking him apart.

And then in walks Mary-- and she becomes a glue that can hold him together.

It's not perfect. They're not flawless.

John has his ghosts and his own trauma from his past, and that will inevitably rear its head just when things seem to be going well between them; but Mary gets him through it all. And so he wants to fight for Mary and keep her safe.

But just like when Dean lost Castiel at the hands of Lucifer-- when John loses Mary at the hands of the yellow eyed demon, he immediately loses himself too.

He breaks apart.

He becomes desperate for answers, for revenge, for a chance to change things ... and sadly, Dean and Sam get caught up in that wildfire of heartbreak and love.

It's not right, but if they want to make me understand how this young, sweet, goofy John Winchester could become the ruthless hunter that turns Sam and Dean into child soldiers, then I think they have to build up the love story slowly and purposefully, filled with all the flaws, and the back and forth, and the hard decisions that Dean and Castiel had to make too.

History in this case, needs to be written in order to then repeat itself in the connection between a righteous man and the angel who saved him.

We need to read that initial rough draft of the greatest love story ever told.
