The 3AM Stream Incident
SOOOhbkabgsjf i haven't done something like this in a while, but I just go so inspired over in the discord @majimasleftasscheek with the streamer!kiryu idea that i had to write SOMETHING and i really loved this idea we came up with so here's SOMETHING!!! username cameos are all people from the server!!
if i had to put it somewhere, something post yakuza 3 pre yakuza 4. in order to make money for the orphanage, haruka and the kids introduced him to this streaming thing. he wanted to engage in their interests, and has always enjoyed gaming deep down, the money aspect also helps out a lot. he's formed a relatively decent sized community, but has yet to go viral. the streamers are pretty laid back and the children's identities are protected, but thanks to the younger audience of streaming in general, the chat has taken to calling him 'uncle kaz' like the kids do when they call for him off screen.
this is. short and silly and i didn't go too hard on it, but i hope it's fun!! kazumaji implied cause it will be with everything i write.
Kiryu doesn't stream off schedule, not often at least. Life gets in the way sometimes, but he's never done this before. It's quiet in the orphanage, he doesn't want to disturb the kids... but he also can't sleep. Not actually worth anything, at least. It's another all nighter, one that hopefully he can recover from while the kids are at school tomorrow. Today. If there's one thing he's thinking about this isn't the various people haunting him... It's Pocket Circuit LIVE. He figures that was something more productive to be doing than just laying here.
His steps are quiet as he makes his way into the small room that had been built in the rebuilding process of Morning Glory. This room was even in the process of being sound proofed, a gift from Daigo that was hard to refuse. With the door shut, he could be a bit more comfortable with his movements.
Hopefully, not too many people in the chatroom are up either. He thinks he remembers hearing talk about finals during these months. Still, it'd be worth going live, people liked him for his ''chill vibes'' and ''comforting streams''. There was always a twinge of a pride even he knew was a bit goofy, compared to the other things he was proud of. Perhaps he could help them sleep, much like a bed time story... But to the sound of Pocket Circuit LIVE dailies.
When Kiryu hits the 'go live' button, he skips through his starting soon screen, going straight to his face cam and gameplay set up. As the game boots up, a bit slower than usual from having to do it while he's live, the first few messages start to pop up
macthedragon: ayo cosmomemory: ??? tabbitha44: damn this game got you by the throat uncle kaz
"Good evening, chatroom." Kiryu smiles at the messages, the exhaustion painfully clear in his eyes he's sure. "I'm surprised other people are up at this hour. I can't sleep, and I can be quiet during this game to not wake the kids. So long as I don't pull." He adds the addendum before anyone in chat could mention that.
Through his months of doing this, he's learned that many of these 'stream chatrooms' have a sort of 'culture' to them. Each streamer has a different kind of audience they cater to, but many share a back and forth dynamic with their 'chatroom'. It was more work than he had ever realized, it was an interesting new world he had begun to discover.
The motions now are practiced and fluid. Daily missions were a walk in the park. Use a new wheel, win a race without a balance frame, win a race with a golem tiger. As the races began to blend, Kiryu quietly talks with his delayed chatroom, "I don't think I'll be streaming tomorrow, I'll announce on my social media platforms in the morning if I will or won't."
aquaortus: twitter. you can say twitter looneyzune: be nice to him, he's not wrong
Kiryu knew full well he could say 'Twitter', but people seemed to like his antiquated way of saying things as much as it grated on them. It was much like with the children in the orphanage, in that way. The chat was significantly slower, but that was nice for him. He didn't directly talked to them, more so just began saying how his day was, it had been a nice day off, he just might need another.
esutonia: take all the time you need uncle kaz cosmomemory: we all could use one i think looneyzune: you deserve the time off, uncle kaz! macthedragon: please don't say you're leaving to get milk- aquaortus: going to sleep to this stream, gnight everyone
It was nice to see the messages of comfort in the corner of his eye, even as they began to talk amidst each other other than just with him. Of course, he quietly wished the viewers going to bed good night, which ended up being a few of them when an hour had passed. Less than 50 people were watching him at that point. There's a few points where he has to quiet down, hearing something shuffling outside of the room, and he has to make sure he didn't wake one of the children. Thankfully, no such incident happens, and he continues on with the quiet stream.
Quiet for a good while, but by hour two, something goes wrong. A name that he had expected to be gone from this stream popped up, marked with a green sword and bright pink text.
gorogorogorochan: Kiryu-chan what the fuck is this shit looneyzune: uh oh esutonia: SCATTER brahkest: uncle majima moment! it's so over
"M-Majima-!" Kiryu jumped at seeing that familiar name, the chatroom having a similar reaction. He looked to the door, knowing he was a good while away in a hotel, yes, but like he could be there at any moment. "I just couldn't sleep, so... Why am I not surprised you're up at this hour too." He truly should have expected this. "I'll only go for another hour. You should get some rest."
He looks at his quest list. Dailies are done, but weeklies are nearing completion. He could go ahead and knock those out now if he's going to take a break soon. Kiryu gets to it, settling back into the rhythm of the game he found so addicting.
gorogorogorochan: Are ya fuckin' kiddin' me gorogorogorochan: TEN MINUTES mrbeefgnaw: oh rip uncle kaz tabbitha44: h u h cosmomemory: it's so over looneyzune: ...has he noticed looneyzune: uncle kaz are you with us
With chat going so slow due to so few people, now less than 20, Kiryu didn't notice it. Pocket Circuit LIVE was too temping. He keeps good on his promise to not pull, but ten minutes have gone by without him really saying a word. He was both too tired and too engrossed in the menial yet fun activities of his favorite pass time.
brahkest: TIME IS UP: UNLEASE THE HOUNDS tabbitha44: what did he Mean by this macthedragon: he never realized omg.....
The questions as to what he had meant didn't go unanswered for long. Kiryu looked over at the chatroom, finally seeing the sudden activity, "Chatroom, did something-" And is cut off by the door to his room swinging open. It just barely is held back from slamming by a tired, haggard, and ticked off looking Majima. He blinks in surprise at his sudden appearance, standing up and taking the same headphones the man had gifted him off his head, "Majima? What are you-"
The next moment, Majima is charging him.
Kiryu barely manages to understand whats happening in the mere second he's given before Majima's long legs get him across the room. He's still taken to the ground in the next second, but he knows not to start fighting back by then. All the camera sees in a yellow and black blur, and then Kiryu going out of frame.
brahkest: UNCLE MAJIMA MOMENT!!!! mrbeefgnaw: oh rip lol looneyzune: UFBKSD cosmomemory: JHDFKSDG macthedragon: HJDKFJDFHLD tabbitha44: LMAOOOO estunia: JHFKDSFKESJB
The last thing the stream sees is a gloved hand slapping around on the table to find the keyboard, and when it's found, the stream is shut off.

Hearts of Wulin
Hearts of Wulin is a Powered by the Apocalypse game of wuxia melodrama. You play skilled martial artists in a world of rival clans, conspiracies, and obligations. The game emulates things like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Untamed, and Ancient Detective. In these stories you may be able to fight a thousand foes, but you may not be able to overcome your own desires, obligations, and past. It uses a flexible scale system for fights, as well as personal entanglements and “inner conflict” for the melodrama side of things. It’s written by Joyce Ch*ng and Lowell Francis.
It just came back to me (Lowell) after the original publisher dropped it from their catalog.
(From what I can tell, Joyce Ch*ng is just… what they go by, not OP trying to censor the name)
Mod Note: Another game I had to be reminded of but that I really like, Hearts of Wulin is a very very cool game, While it doesn’t scratch my own itch of a wuxia game focusing on the combat aspects, the melodrama bits are still really damn cool.
if any of you in the notes recommend Exalted as a wuxia game you’ll be blocked so hard your head will spin

Rex's squad training ends up falling completely into Alpha-17's hands after the incident with the Trainer. Not just because the other natborn Trainers do not want to deal with a cadet who's strange abilities are far too volatile to predict (Rex is still a child and has no control over his shifting just yet, so any emotional outburst leads to him becoming a little frightened cub), but also due to the Kaminoans themselves showing an interest in studying him more closely without risking themselves.
The obvious solution is to have an experienced clone keep an eye on this unique little cadet, and since Alpha-17 is overseeing the training of the command batch (an already quite unruly sort), he should be more than capable of handling a squad who has a member that could at any point attempt to maul him. He's one of their sturdiest products, surely this plan will end in some kind of victory for them.
The Kaminoans obviously have too much faith in their ability to so much as impose any sort of control over what 17 does or doesn't do. He takes on the chore of course, since his little hellion little brothers seem fond of Rex anyway, but he doesn't push the kid to do half the things the Long Necks want him to do (tasks he calls "pretty circus tricks" with just how frivolous he finds them).
17 just trains him as he would any other cadet that falls under his care, and that approach works best really.
Anything relating to Rex goes through his desk first, and he edits the records however he pleases. Anything that would glaringly lead to decommission (the lack of control over his shifts, the occasional outbursts that lead to lashing out, the little escapades because little cooped up cubs are unhappy cubs, etc...) gets edited out, 17 even fits the kid's unpredictable shifting into some of the training plans (for every task he sets up he has a plan B in case of sudden sabertooth tiger cub acquisition), and he encourages every single member of the squad to have a more independent thought process rather than falling into the usual canon-fodder aspects of the natborn Trainers' teachings.
17 is not the most empathetic or nurturing sort, but he's taught Cody from the ground up after he was reconned, and then taught Fox to be more swift and cunning since he was a bit of a runt in the eyes of the Long Necks. If anyone can help Rex get this shapeshifting under control, it's the very stubborn Alpha series who looks like he's never smiled a day in his life.
And if you're wondering how his approach is to dealing with a little sabertooth? Well...

This about sums it up I think.

World Lion Day
World  Lion Day on August 10 aims to raise awareness about the plight faced by  lions. Scientifically known as ‘Panthero Leo,’ lions are one of the  most well-known and popular animal species out there. They are called  the ‘Kings of the Jungle’ due to their arresting and fearsome  personalities created by their great bodies and heavy, shiny manes. A  lion’s powerful roar is second to none, and it can be heard even five  miles away. Owing to the pop culture icons like Simba from “The Lion  King”, lions are also loved by children. However, while lions existed in  large populations 100 years ago, today, their numbers are just below  50,000 worldwide as a result of poaching and hunting. World Lion Day,  therefore, brings attention to this endangered species by raising funds  and amping up protective measures.
History of World Lion Day
The  first World Lion Day came into being in 2013. It was headed by Dereck  and Beverly Joubert, a couple who are passionate about preservation and  wild cats. After realizing that lion populations have drastically  decreased worldwide, the Jouberts approached “National Geographic” for  the brand’s help. Forming a partnership with them, the couple came up  with the Big Cat Initiative (B.C.I.) in 2009. The B.C.I.’s main goal  would be to protect and preserve the remaining lion species in the  world. While aspects like deforestation, climate change, and human  intervention may have impacted lion populations, studies have shown that  their extremely low numbers may also have to do with ice ages and  natural environmental disasters that have led them to becoming secluded  in only a few countries of the world, namely India and South Africa. To  date, the B.C.I. has made substantial leaps, from getting 150+ grant  awards to reducing almost 3,000 threats to 3,000 wild cats to removing  13,000 life-threatening snares.
The lion comes from the ‘Felidae’  family of cats, and it is considered to be an apex predator. It is the  second-largest cat weighing around 300 to 600 pounds, with the first  being its cousin, the tiger. An average lion’s body is muscular with a  short round head and ears, and a tufty tail. Its sex can be identified  through its heavy and luscious mane, which are absent on lionesses.  Lions also happen to be the only cats who roam around in large groups  known as prides. Scientists believe that lions do so because it is  easier to catch prey in the wild. Their natural habitats are savannas  and grasslands. You will most likely find a pride of lions near water  bodies as they strategically wait for prey to come there for a drink and  then pounce on them.
World Lion Day timeline
1758 ‘Felis Leo’ is Coined
Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish zoologist and botanist, invents ‘Felis Leo’ as the scientific name of lions.
1996 Vulnerable Species
The  lion is placed on the Red List of the International Union for  Conservation of Nature due to its African population decreasing by 45%  since 1990.
2009 Big Cat Initiative is Formed
Dereck and Beverly Joubert, in partnership with “National Geographic”, start the Big Cat Initiative to save lions.
2013 The First World Lion Day
The B.C.I. announces the first World Lion Day in order to include the world in lion preservation efforts.
How to Observe World Lion Day
Vow to protect lions
Refuse to buy lion products
Donate your assets
No  matter how you choose to spend the day, make sure it is worthwhile by  vowing to protect lions. Lions are natural predators that are necessary  to keep prey populations in check. Apart from such environmental  benefits, lions are extremely beautiful and majestic animals that have  ruled the pop culture scene for a long time. So, let’s take a vow to be  there for them.
Whether  you are looking to buy a new bag or coat, or any other similar  paraphernalia, make sure you know where it is coming from. Refuse to buy  lion products (or other animal skin products) to reduce sales and  market value.
Time  and money are the most valuable assets you can give in today’s world.  Look out for national and international organizations that protect wild  cats, and invest in them by donating your money to the cause. If you  cannot donate, you can volunteer your time by either helping the  organizations with volunteer work or by promoting the organizations in  your circles.
5 Facts About Lions That Will Blow Your Mind
Younglings have spots on their skin
Manes change over time
Cubs are raised together
Females are mightier hunters
Heavy and long sleepers
Young lion cubs are born with spots on their coats, but these tend to fade away as they grow older.
A lion’s mane will change color, going from light to dark, as it grows older.
Lion cubs are generally brought up together by all the females in a pride.
Lionesses are better hunters than their male counterparts, and it is for this reason that they hunt 80% to 90% of the time.
Lions will sleep for at least 20 hours a day.
Why World Lion Day is Important
It’s a celebration of lions
It’s a reminder about the importance of preservation
It’s a celebration of the natural environment
For  most of us, “The Lion King” was a huge part of our childhood. We  rejoiced at the birth of Simba but also grieved with him over his  father’s death. Holding such sweet memories and images, we cannot let  the beloved animal go extinct. Let’s come together on August 10 to  protect lions from all dangers.
Preservation  has become a necessity, more now than ever. We cannot hope to live on a  peaceful and resourceful Earth if we keep depleting it of its natural  resources, be it water, fuel, or animals. We must preserve and protect  the Earth for ourselves as well as future generations.
The  natural environment has given us countless gifts. From food for taste  and survival to medicinal properties to inspiration for technological  inventions, nature has continued to reward us since time immemorial. We  must therefore honor, respect, and celebrate it.

We watched Walt Disney's The Jungle Book (1967).
IMDb Link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061852/
The Jungle Book is a 1967 musical comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by Buena Vista Distribution.
The film is based on Rudyard Kipling's 1894 book of the same name. It was the 19th Disney feature film and the final film produced by Walt Disney who died during its production.
The film plot follows Mowgli, an abandoned human child raised in the Indian jungle by Wolves. Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear have to convince Mowgli to leave the jungle before Shere Khan arrives to kill him.
Wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jungle_Book_(1967_film)
Early versions of the screenplay and soundtrack were more faithful to the book with a dramatic, dark and sinister tone which Disney did not like. Leading writer Bill Peet was replaced. Much of Peets work was thrown away but his characters were kept but made more happy and funny.
Work on the animation began on June 5th 1965. The animation was done by Xerography, using rough artistic edges to contrast the round animals. Background were hand painted and used in the foreground and background to create a feeling of depth.
The character of Baloo was based on real footage of bears and their movements in the wild. This was one of the first animated films to study animal behaviour.
A Disney trademark of using previous cel-sequences from other films was used for the Jungle Book. This includes 101 Dalmatians and A Tiger Walks.
The films score was composed by George Bruns and orchestrated by Walter sheets. The score features six original songs, five by the Sherman Brothers and one by Terry Gilkyson who wrote The Bear Necessities. The songs have become classic in their own right. The songs are as follows:
- The Bear Necessities - Trust in Me - I Wan'na Be Like You - Colonel Hathi's March - That's What Friends are For - My Own Home
For more information on the production of The Jungle Book, see:
Favourite scenes in The Jungle Book:
- The wolves scene at the beginning, who adopt Mowgli and raise him.
- The King Louie scene where he sings 'I'm the King of the Swingers'. ''Have Two Bananas!''
- The vultures 'That's What Friends are For' scene. The vultures where influenced by the Beetles who came from Liverpool. - - The 'Trust in Me' scene featuring Kaa the Rock Python who tries to hypnotise Mowgli with his eyes and the song!
- And of course, The Bear Necessities, which Baloo sings with Mowgli in the river.
The Jungle Book was released in October 1967, 10 months after Walt Disney's death. The film was a massive success, costing $4 million dollars to make and earning over $23 million dollars by 1970.
The film was re-released throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s and is regarded as being in the top 50 grossing films of all time.
The film has been released to home media on all available formats from VHS to streaming. The Jungle Book was digitally re-mastered in 2014.
The original aspect ratio of The Jungle Book is 1.37.1, the alternate theatrical released was 1.75:1.
The Jungle Book received positive reviews upon its release. This was partly due to the affection for Walt Disney after his death. Although it was nothing like the book, the film was seen as simple, bright and delightful entertainment.
It still has a rotten tomatoes approval rating of 88%.
In later years the film has received some criticism for being racist, however this was not the film makers intention.
In 2016, a live action/CGI version of the Jungle Book was released. It is darker than the animation but it is highly regarded.
I have seen the live action version recently on BBC iPlayer.
I first saw the Jungle Book in the late 90s on VHS, more recently I brought a copy of the film on Blu-Ray disc in 2017. This version was watched on YouTube Movies. The Jungle Book looked fantastic on my 4K LG TV!
I particularly enjoy watching Kaa, as I like snakes!
My favourite stories from Rudyard Kipling were his 'Just So' stories which I first read in the classic children's Golden Treasury book. My favourite story from 'Just So' is How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin!
Obviously the film isn't up to modern animation standards, but it is still really enjoyable to watch with its catchy songs and engaging characters.
It is a classic!

Promotional material for television pilots from P Productions forJaguar Man and Spectreman.
Jaguar Man, like the similarly themed Hyo-Man (Leopard Man) pilot from the same year (1967) never progressed further than the pilot. P Productions would eventually land a trio of big cat-themed tokusatsu hero series with Kaiketsu Lion-Maru (1972), followed by Fuun Lion-Maru (1973) and Tetsujin Tiger 7 (1973).
As for the Spectreman pilot (1970; the series began broadcasting on January 1, 1971), there were some major changes made by the time the series began.
Most obvious is Spectreman's costume, which looks like it was thrown together with items grabbed from a quick trip to the thrift store. His more familiar appearance in the show is radically different from the pilot version, thank goodness.
Tumblr media
I'm especially glad they got rid of the half-mask with the Pinocchio nose and creepy eyes. That thing disturbs me; I can only imagine how little kids would react to it.
The other big changes concerned Spectreman's adversary, Doctor Gori. Originally the doc, with his mission to save the Earth from environmental doom by any means necessary, was going to be the main character. In fact, the original series title for the first twenty episodes was Space Apeman Gori, which was changed to Space Apeman Gori vs. Spectreman from episodes 21 to 39. The series title was then changed to Spectreman starting with episode 40, and stayed that way to the end (episode 63).
One other aspect of Doctor Gori that was changed was his appearance. Originally, as depicted above, he was a gorilla. The producers decided that a gorilla would work better as a strongman/henchman, and the suit was repurposed as Gori's aide Ra/Karas. That's how we got the mop-topped, funky disco-suit wearing Doctor Gori we're all familiar with.
Considering P Productions had 25 days to put together the series (including the pilot) and get it on the air, I can only imagine how hectic and chaotic their offices were that month. Given that they produced a 63 episode series that's still popular more than 50 years later, I think we can agree that their efforts were successful.

SVT's 96z : Where are they at now?
What is this reading about?
I asked the cards where Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo and Woozi are at mentally, what are their current feelings and their intentions for the future.
Disclaimer:
My readings are made for fun and you should read them for fun too. So don't take them seriously.
Tumblr media
Jun
8 of cups, 7 of swords, the Empress (added later the Magician for more clarity)
There's a feeling of abandonment, this can mean everything and nothing. If we link it to his private life, maybe someone walked away from his life or he left someone. Maybe if we interpret it professionally, he feels left behind or lonely?
His new solo is coming out (pls support him) so this feeling of uncertainty might be related to it. Maybe he doesn't feel that confident without the rest of SVT or he feels too much responsibilities and expectations on himself (let's not forget their tour is behind the corner, so he must feel overworked right now).
These cards might also be related to something much more trivial. For example he's buying something and he's being careful about it, scams are always behind the corner.
I feel he's very insecure about some aspects of his life, but at the same time it's not all bad and he is or will be in a phase of creativity and production. If his problems are personal, it's possible he might solve them or meet new people that will give him new energy.
I think that once he'll be able to overcome whatever caused him pain, he'll be able to heal and take new opportunities.
Hoshi
the sun, death, 10 of swords, 6 of cups
He is happy with where he is right now and with what he achieved. He's extremely proud of himself and of the other members.
But we're talking about our beloved tiger, once he achieved something he's always thinking about the next step, so he's ready for a new challenge and he's also ready for the struggles tied to this new challenge.
We know Hoshi's story as a trainee, we all know how much SVT struggled and how hard they had to work to be where they are. This man is 100% ready to go through blood, sweat and tears to achieve what he wants.
In a way, these cards seem all tied together, and it seems Hoshi is really ready to begin something new, a new cycle and he's ready to work hard for it.
But life isn't only goals and work. Hoshi should also spend some time to connect with himself. It's possible he has some unsolved questions from the past or that he simply has to reconnect or care more for his old friend/family.
Wonwoo
queen of wands, the sun, knight of wands, 4 of wands
Queen of wands is an interesting card related to Wonwoo. Maybe it means he's more confident and ready to be more in the spotlight? I think of his "game boy" lives, in the past maybe he wasn't exactly comfy during lives, especially if alone, but now he's hours and hours on live, playing games. More than a "yass queen" type of confidence, I think he simply found his special way to express himself.
He's also quite content like Hoshi. He's satisfied with everything that has happened, they are successful, full of ideas and happy.
But like Hoshi, being happy doesn't mean not wanting to obtain anything new. He's probably in a process where he's trying to do something new.
He has achieved a lot, but probably dreams to achieve even more.
Woozi
temperance, the hierophant, strenght, page of cups
He's in a stable state of mind. Unlike the others so far, he isn't particularly happy, nor occupied with worries. Their success hasn't changed his own attitude, but on the contrary he's continuing his path and thinking about the next steps. Nothing makes him extremely overjoyed, especially professionally since he knows that achieving success is hard but keeping it is even harder.
We know this guy is all home/studio/gym, so he's working hard on what will come next. He has his own trusted working schedule and he's following it religiously.
Probably he should let go a bit of his job and focus on more fun and relaxing aspects or in general on his private life, pretty much like Hoshi.
Thoughts: for this reading I'm picking cards that fall from the deck, this is why you might see a different number of cards for each member. ngl Jun's cards puzzled me, so I had to pick one more to understand it better. The other three 96z seem in a better position mentally, but it's nice to see how they're all so focused on their job and on the future. Hoshi's reading in particular felt so Hoshi lol Woozi's cards were also very much Woozi too in their vibe :') idk what's up with Wonwoo, but he seems happy too lol
That being said, I received some asks in the meantime (thank you^^), among which there is one about skz's future spouse, svt's love situation and svt's ideal types (which I already intended to do), I'll do them as soon as I can, I apologize in advance if it will take a while!

Peter Pan and Wendy: a review
Directorial decisions, backlash, and final result
I don't usually seek out reviews, and even less so write them, but I had been waiting for this new Peter Pan adaptation ever since it's been announced (2016!), and as such, was anxious to see what people had to say about it.
And, well, considering the vitriolic reviews this film has gotten, I wanted to balance the negative critics out a little. I didn't hate the film -- although there are things that could have been managed better (but those are not what you would expect). More under the cut.
On directorial vision:
David Lowery's style is extremely subdued, for lack of a better term. You can go through one of his films and expect a big climax, only to realise at the end that all changes happened gradually, so much so that the story has displayed its meaning without you noticing.
His films are mostly focused on the "within", with a huge focus on personal turmoil rather than big events.
For Peter Pan and Wendy, this approach remains: he took the original story from the book, and apparently drew out the elements which mattered to him the most (the fear of growing up/the bitterness of aging) and translated them into a very personal vision (which extends to the visual aspect of the film: its green hue, the worn-out aspect of the costumes...). So rather than present the story as an epic series of adventures, he rerouted the narrative to tell one singular story (my first thought, finishing the film, was actually "It holds up quite well!"). It tells a simple story, with a definite beginning leading to a definite end -- but as such, can feel rushed and uneven.
On the pacing of the film:
Lowery has one main issue, and it's his obsession for perfectionnism. As a former video editor, he's liable to cut, re-cut, and re-edit up until he's told to stop (see how plenty of the material from the first Green Knight trailer hasn't made it to the finished product). I believe it's the same with this film: especially with the Covid-19 hiatus and the interception from Disney studios (because they surely veto a lot of things in these kinds of productions).
The director and screenwriters had a story to tell, but spent so much time on it that they lost track of the smaller details for the sake of the bigger picture. It's quite visible considering the repartition of the main acts of the film, which are as follow:
Introduction of the Darlings and flight to Neverland
First introductory adventure with the pirates
Meeting the Lost Boys and Skull Rock adventure
Break at the Lost Boys hide out and "death" of Peter Pan
Climax (fight on the Jolly Roger)
Conclusion.
What's obviously lacking here is a middle adventure: we've barely become accustomed to Neverland that the climax is already reached. We should have had another scene, not only to give the viewer a chance to breathe, but also to better introduce secondary characters (the underdevelopped Tiger Lily, for instance).
This seems to be the result of over-editing: a middle adventure wouldn't have been necessary to understand the story, so off it went. But as such, it causes pacing issues. This is really my main problem with the film.
On the realistic aspect of the film:
I've seen people take out of a context a quote about Tinkerbell's lack of glow ad nauseam, and while it's typical Tumblr 'Chinese whispers', it needs to be addressed because I don't want people hating on the film for wrong reasons.
The question on how Tinkerbell should glow concerns practical rendition of an animated version. When you have to translate effects which were easily done with drawings, you need to ask yourself how it would be done practically (like, how to make the Beast look realistic in a Beauty and the Beast live action?). The quote does not mean Lowery hates on fantasy elements...
The film does have a realistic, down-to-earth look, though. That's obviously pointed out by Wendy, realizing that Neverland is "a different kind of real". But that ties up with Lowery's style, as mentionned before. He's not making an over-the-top, theatrical epic: he chose to translate the story in his style, and that's fine. We don't need another 2003 Peter Pan, because there already is a 2003 Peter Pan. As much as I love this previous adaptation, I am, for one, glad of the change. There's a Peter Pan for everyone, and maybe this one could be yours, if you look past the first knee-jerk critics and give it a chance.
I'd like to conclude on what @not-wholly-unheroic said about the film, because it sums things up quite nicely:
"I think the problem is largely that the audience was expecting an epic adventure and got a tearjerker instead. In a lot of ways, this version of the story was more for the adults than the kids… but those adults largely have a nostalgia for the adventure story they grew up with and wanted something closer to that than what they got."
There's much more that could be said about the film, but for the time being, I only wanted to counteract the overwhelming, and sometimes undeserved, negativity surrounding the film. I am not for Disney live actions at all, but I consider Peter Pan and Wendy as a David Lowery project first and foremost. Perhaps, if it had been produced by another studio, it would have been actually more imaginative and personal. It did a great job in producing an original retelling of a well-known story while taking liberties, but keeping true to a certain spirit from the original book. Barrie's Peter Pan feels very personal to each reader, and this is a personal film as well. I hope it will be revisited in time by children who have grown older, just like the adults of today keep on returning to their own favorite version of the story.

My Journey To You - Thoughts and Impressions Part 1 of 2
Tumblr media
I realise that I've been missing these past few months, i've been on a consumption binge but with little to no bandwidth to write about any show/film irrespective of how much I may have loved them. (depression is an ass) But I can, once again, feel thoughts tingling in my brain and I've decided to get back to writing, something that I deeply enjoy. Anyway, enough about me, let's get started.
To keep the post from getting obscenely long, I'm going to split it into two. This post will be about the technical aspects of the show. Part 2 will focus on the characters.
My Journey To You is a 2023 fantasy, Wuxia show (shows/films that are based in ancient China with martial arts warriors being capable of superhuman feats, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). It was highly anticipated owing to the amazing trailer (one of the best I've seen)
youtube
Plot: The series tells the story of Yun Wei Shan, a spy longing for freedom, who infiltrates the Gong residence to complete a mission. In the eerie and treacherous Gong residence, she encounters love and friendship, embarks on a journey of self-discovery, and finds the determination to move forward. Together with the rebellious nobleman Gong Zi Yu, they grow and mature through their shared experiences. (via mydramalist)
It stars: Yu Shu Xin (Yun Wei Shan), Zhang Ling He(Gong Zi Yu), Ryan Cheng (Gong Shang Jue) and Lu Yu Xiao (Shangguan Qian), Tian Jia Rui (Gong Yuan Zhi), Jolin Jin (Gong Zi Shang) and Sun Chen Jun (Jin Fan)
Written by: Edward Guo.
Series directed by: Edward Guo & Luo Luo

I'll talk about everything I liked before I get into the stuff that I didn't.
Right off the bat, this show has some of the most gorgeous characters you'll come across and this applies to both the men and the women. The costume and make-up departments do an amazing job making already attractive people look ridiculously attractive. They also help the actors really inhabit the world seamlessly. The costumes are especially incredibly detailed and intricate, you can see the care that went into crafting the look for each of these characters. Shout-out to Huang Wei (costume designer) and Shi Hui (Make-up)
One of the best aspects of the show is the cinematography by Wei Hong. This show is aesthetically beautiful, so many absolutely stunning shots. Chinese shows (and Korean shows) love slow-motion shots, and while at times, it can be a bit much, this show makes great use of them, especially during the fight scenes.
Tumblr media
The cinematography is helped to a great extent by the excellent production design, courtesy Jiyao Zhang. Like the costumes, the production design too is detailed and intricate. The world feels fully realised and yet also lived in. Each of the different clan mansions, the Front Hill and Back Hill are so incredibly different and distinct that you can immediately tell where you are. An insane amount of hard work went into the show and it shows in every frame.
You can tell that they had a good budget to work with and every bit of it was spent on making the show look as stylized as possible, there is not an ounce of realism to be found here, cue slow-motion beautiful hair flying shots. (Every day I bemoan my inability to make gifs) But the screencaps below illustrate the beauty of the show, it's so gorgeous that you could literally use screencaps as wallpapers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fight scenes in the show are some of the best I've seen. They are intense and thrilling and always coherent, you can always tell who's fighting who. The fight scenes are also so aesthetically pleasing, like an exceptionally deadly dance.
Tumblr media
Now, we come to the not-so-great stuff.
First off, the marketing. The show was marketed and advertised as an action fantasy show and while there is action and it is excellent, it's not an "action" show. The main focus of the show is on the characters and the internal power struggle of the Gong family. There are also whole scenes, sometimes making up the bulk of an entire episode which are just conversations. I've seen a lot of viewers disappointed and it makes sense. they thought they were coming for action and instead they got verbose conversations.
The pacing also comes to a near-halt in some of these scenes and instead we're treated to lengthy expositions which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it becomes tedious when it happens repetitively.
Now, let's come to the worst thing about the show, it's ending, specifically the last 5 minutes. This end is ridiculously mindbogglingly bad when you consider that there is almost no confirmation on a 2nd season. It's just such a bad idea to end on a cliffhanger like this. If they wanted to leave things open for a potential 2nd season, they could have ended with the Wufeng elders coming together at that character's home, possibly to hold them ransom or something, like literally anything else.
if you're planning on watching this show and I do recommend it, keep in mind that it does get slow and don't watch the last 5 mins of the show. Trust me, you'll like the show a whole lot more if you follow that approach.

What are your favorite dramas and tv shows? ^^ Are there any you’re currently watching or interested in watching??
Hi there :)
I didn't expect to get such an ask to be honest. The first question is kind of really difficult to answer. Let me start with asian dramas since most things are just them, I'll list the main genre/vibe since I don't know if you're looking for recs.
/
My best kdrama experiences: - W TWO WORLDS (2016) - rather serious tone, sci-fi/romance - I'M NOT A ROBOT (2017) - romcom tone with some serious elements, more of a slice-of-life vibe than a sci-fi drama - HOTEL DEL LUNA (2019) - rather serious tone, fantasy - EXTRAORDINARY YOU (2019) - goes back and forth between utter comedy, romance and utter tragedy, most people put it into the high school kdrama section, i personally think it is much more into the fantasy aspect) - THE TALE OF NOKDU (2019) - serious tone, historical/political with a wonderful romantic ship. The only Korean ancient drama with rights. - FLOWER OF EVIL (2020) - serious tone, crime/romance. - TRUE BEAUTY (2020) - light tone, it's the parallel line directingwise to Extraordinary You without all the severe tragedy and fantasy, high school drama with pure romance - A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL (2020) - light romantic/comedy. Mostly high school, but they grow into adults. - DOOM AT YOUR SERVICE (2021) - serious tone, fantasy/romance. But beware, the secondary couple is absolutely useless.
/
My best cdrama experiences: - THE LEGENDS (2019) - serious tone, ancient fantasy. The show would have been better if they stuck with their 30 intended eps and didn't end drama for secondary characters for 25 episodes, but overall, good show with awesome messages. - THE UNTAMED (2019) - serious tone, ancient fantasy with politics, the plot is as addictive as it is complex. You must pay lots of attention to understand things. - THE LOVE BY HYPNOTIC (2019) - juggling between comedy and tragedy, a wonderful historical and political drama with a beautiful romance. - I'VE FALLEN FOR YOU (2020) - mostly a romantic comedy with memorable characters and actors. It started off in the most ridiculous ways and gradually became better every episode. - THE ROMANCE OF TIGER AND ROSE (2020) - a time travel / world travel show with romantic comedy elements. If you hated what Goodbye My Princess did, you will love how this show here drags all the bad tropes through the mud. A very entertaining show. - LEGEND OF FEI (2020) - serious tone, ancient fantasy. Badass female lead and warm, soft boy who is in love with her. Funny secondary characters and a nice character journey. - A GIRL LIKE ME (2021) - hidden gem. Barely anyone seems to know it but it perfectly balances romance, politics and tragedy. Absolutely worth a watch because it really has something for everyone who likes ancient dramas. - LOVE BETWEEN FAIRY AND DEVIL (2022) - a tumblr favorite. Very good directing, alongside Ancient Love Poetry the best use of CGI I have seen on a Chinese drama. Cinematopgraphy my beloved. - WHO RULES THE WORLD (2022) - ancient drama. Basically, in the same league as Legend of Fei and The Untamed, but the CGI is better. - LOVE LIKE THE GALAXY (2020) - historical-political drama. Very, very, very slow-moving and utterly serious tone throughout the show. Very intriguing once you get into it. - LOVE UNDER THE FULL MOON (2021) - another hidden gem. Modern fantasy, very well done overall. 1/2 modern day dramas on my cdrama list. - LIGHTER & PRINCESS (2022) - the only modern slice-of-life drama I've sincerely become obsessed with. Serious tone, very good directing, outstanding acting and plot development.
/
My best Thai drama experiences: - NOT ME (2021) - sociopolitical BL with a serious tone and very memorable messages. Directing is spot-on and, honestly, a gem in the maze of Thai BLs. - BAD BUDDY (2021) - romcom BL with all the right messages and the fun you want to have when you wanna watch a romcom.
/
My best experiences with Japanese productions: - MY BEAUTIFUL MAN (2021) - high school BL (later university) that absolutely gives off an independent movie vibe. Very good camerawork and dialogue. Somewhere between very slow moving and sudden time jumps. First season is enough; the second season rather drags the issue the first season had already established. - THE DISASTROUS LIFE OF SAIKI K. (2016) - anime/comedy.
/
Now, western world things that I genuinely enjoyed: - WESTWORLD (2016, U.S.) - THE show. The best goddamn thing I've watched in my life, but sooooo complex and difficult to understand. Serious tone, sci-fi. - SANKT MAIK (2018, Germany) - Comedic tone, romcom/crime. - AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (2005, U.S.) - Light tone, animated fantasy. - THE SOCIETY (2019, U.S.) - Serious tone, fantasy/sci-fi/dystopia. - SIEMPRE FUI YO (2022, Colombia) - Serious tone, drama/mystery. - SIMONA (2018, Argentina) - Light tone, telenovela/romcom. - JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS (2020, U.S.) - a disney show that isn't disney, but is supposed to be fun and entertaining, but somehow utterly destroys you emotionally, idk. - MIRACLE WORKERS (2019, U.S.) - Anthology, satire/comedy, fantasy. - FLORICIENTA (2004, Argentina) - Light tone, telenovela/romcom.
/
Currently watching: - THE STARRY LOVE (2023) - livewatching. went into this show wanting to root for the secondary ship, love them, but the main ship is destroying me. - THE JOURNEY OF CHONG ZI (2023) - livewatching. I do not recommend to watch this, the ML is a disgrace. - MY DEEPEST DREAM (2022) - i should really finish this one it's so good. Modern fantasy. - SEASONS OF BLOSSOM (2022) - a tragic drama. i should finish it, it's so good, but i do not want. - OH! MY SWEET LIAR (2020) - i should also finish this one, it's cute and I'm almost done with it. - HIS DARK MATERIALS (2019) - should finally watch s2&3.

★ Tiger 3 first cut locked; Salman Khan and Katrina begin to dub for the YRF Spy Universe film!
Jun 23, 2023
Pinkvilla has exclusively learnt that director Maneesh Sharma and producer Aditya Chopra have locked the first cut of their big-ticket Diwali entertainer, Tiger 3. “The first cut of Tiger 3 is locked, and the team is now working to get other aspects of post-production locked. The VFX work is going on in full swing, and the same is the case with the background score. The idea is to create the grandest action film in Indian Cinema, and it’s all work in progress at Yash Raj Films. The team intends to have most of the important aspects ready by August and then dive into the marketing campaign,” revealed a source close to the development.
Katrina Kaif, who plays Zoya in the Tiger Franchise, starts dubbing for the film in a day or two,
whereas Salman Khan will get into the zone of dubbing from Monday. “Usually, dubbing work for a film happens a month or two before release, but for Tiger 3, the idea is to have things in place much in advance. Some patch work dubbing, and other things will keep going on, but most of the primary things will be locked by August,” the source added.
Tiger 3 is the 5th film of YRF Spy Universe
Tiger 3 is the fifth film of the YRF Spy Universe after Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, and Pathaan and is slated to release this Diwali. Apart from Salman and Katrina, the film stars Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist. Shah Rukh Khan also makes an extended appearance in the film as Pathaan and has already shot for an epic action sequence, costing over Rs 35 crore with Salman Khan earlier this Summer. Much like Tiger in Pathaan, the Pathaan in Tiger sequence is also said to be among the major highlights of Tiger 3. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

In my city activist groups have specific inner guidelines to let people through during emergencies and not doing that is clearly so dangerous and stupid, I'm very sorry that happened.
You said "guilting people going about their daily lives" but I think that is needed: we cannot go about our daily lives, this situation demands for everyone to wake up (meaning voting for and demanding these changes from politicians, participating in boycotts of for example meat and oil, stopping flying... even when these things are difficult for an individual in this society, we are in a situation in which we need to do difficult things). Clearly they have failed in the communication aspect of the protest (communicating what and how to change and why) but I don't think the way of protest itself is flawed. Roadblocks etc are used because they get attention, hopefully make people think and they signify understanding of the brokeness of the societal agreement.
Idk I understand your point and the frustration but I don't think frustration itself is always a dangerous feeling. If you feel like there are better ways to get the change that is urgently needed, that's amazing, please put all your power towards that. But in the end I feel like diverse forms of civic action are needed, even the ones that are "guilt-tripping" (although I do agree that they need to be more clear about offering the solutions).
youre missing the point . they’re not guilting peopel by giving them other options . they’re just shouting about people driving being monsters and killing the planet like . that’s not productive to anyone . urging individual action is a good thing but harassing people and causing disruption without means for good cause is just not how protesting works . because it makes you look like you’re doing it for no reason . they’re not a good climate activist group . and inciting change isn’t gonna work through harassing someone eating meat like pets does or throwing things in the roads like just stop oil does my criticism of them isn’t a criticism of individual change and i think you misinterpreted my words to take that point away . because it’s a criticism of their strategy of activism not of this kind of activism in general you can argue things like militancy garners more attention but this group have done nothing in effect with the attention they’ve been getting they’re just pulling more stunts without actually promoting any way to aid in environmentalism beyond ‘join our group’ there are other environmental activist causes that need more attention who have lobbied parliament or have support from mps .
individual change isn’t everything either if everyone decreased their driving and meat intake we’d still be left with masses and masses of emissions from fast fashion plants manufacturing plants fracking non biodegradable plastic production and you’re right that needs public support but they’re not going to get it through their methods of being total cunts even the just stop oil people in my own city have only ever given me pamphlets on joining their group never been asked to sign a petition never been given any information on how to reduce my personal co2 emissions and it’s the same for everyone else i know . idk if it’s the same for others but in my city they don’t do anything tiger than promote themselves with no substance under why we should do that . they’re a pretty bad activist group because they don’t know HOW to gain support from the public and they aren’t doing anything to show you what their group is actually doing besides viral stunts .

First, before getting to my point, let me bitch: the Creel attic is giving me a headache. Ive noticed a mirror in the trailer and I'm prettyyyy sure it's also in the show when Victor goes up there
Tumblr media
but the placement of the Things just aren't the same. Like I'm pretty sure the baby carriage (if it's even the same one because it looks kind of different... Or unless there's two??) was moved, the wheelchair in the show has a chest behind it unlike in the trailer, and the clothes hanger had clothes on it in the trailer (?) but not in the show. Also the windows behind the clock in the trailer just disappears 🌈 in the show lmao.
I mean if I'm going to be super insane about this for a moment it seems to me from Victors movements in the show he enters from the far left and checks out the bedframes, wedding dress, and carriage first.
Tumblr media
He sees the piano next, turns towards the other side of the room and checks out the wheelchair for a bit. Turns fully around so his back would be towards the POV of this trailer shot. See what I mean? (Possible mirror in the background circled)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The production crew is not making this easy for me 💪
Regardless, the mirror seems to actually be in the same place it should be (at least in the similar place) which is an Interesting choice because it's facing Victor as the spider eclipses his form in the fore ground of the last shot as he monologues about a demon.
Which made me realize this isn't the only time Victor is associated with reflections and spiders. Again, the bathtub scene where he saw his reflection in the water where the spiders were.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know a lot of people think it's a reflection of Virginia, and that's a valid interpretation, I'm just putting this out there as a thought. Virginia does already get her own much more explicit "reflection" when she runs down the stairs past the mirror on the mantleplace (which honestly reminds me of the scene in The Shining when Wendy sees the ghost fellatio (tm) after walking up the stairs and proceeds to scream and run away like Virginia did when she saw the spiders).
It's only after this scene that Victor sees his first hallucination of a baby burning. And there is an eye for an eye aspect of what happened to him: he killed a family, including an infant, during the war so his own family was taken away from him.
But his association with spiders doesn't really make much sense to me because Victor himself doesn't fit the descriptor of "a predator" unless the argument is that as being a war criminal he fits that description. Which ST tends to be very flexible with the criteria of "preying on the weak". I'd argue the reason why Angela's rink o mania outfit was paralleled to Karens cheating outfits is because both are technically participating in predatory behaviors. Karen is pursuing sex with a teenager and Angela is tormenting an autistic coded girl for being "different".
They do this also with naming the basketball team turned mob "the tigers". Tigers are predators, and Jason is a predator "preying on the weak" by scapegoating someone lower on the social hierarchy than he is. The "freaks".
And an infant definitely fits the term "weak" and an innocent civilian family compared to an armed soldier also does too. Hence why Victor gets his "punishment" in the form of being framed for the killing of his family.
(which again just begs more questions because the only reason Victor wakes up from his vision is because of an "angel", Henry quickly skips over this part of his retelling just stating that he passed out from over exertion and that he "planned" to have his father framed when that simply does not add up with what Victor said himself happened).
But also I hate talking about Victor like this because he's my skrugly blorbo 😔👍
To me, at least, this fits an interesting trend. Not to bring Rosemary's Baby into this again BUT the repeated dynamic of the father who pretends to be what he's not- the mother who married him without knowing who he really is- the son who is rejected by his mother as a result. Which is the criticism of the cultural enforcement of the nuclear family, women don't have any choice to but to marry, men also have to charm a woman into marrying them, and as a result you can end up with children trapped in an abusive environment with an abuser and an abuse enabler- or at least just a less extreme unhealthy environment.
We see this over and over again whether the trend plays out or it's bucked. Joyce bucked the trend by being supportive of her sons regardless of her hardships as a single mother and Lonnie being a POS (Joyce axes the rose wallpaper standing in between her and Will, Lonnie repairs it). In fact she kicks Lonnie out when he insists on letting Will go.
In fact could the rose door be a parallel to the Byers rose wall? And Lonnie's repair of the wall be parallels to the wooden planks on Chrissy's and Nancy's vecna vision?
Billy's mom (represented with a red rose on her shirt btw) didn't protect him by abandoning him to his father.
Karen bucks the trend by refuses to let Mike go by the end of s4. Ted noticibly in s1 tells her to "let him go" and even in a comic I believe there is a? Similar line? At Mike's birthday he tells Karen she has to let Mike go "sometime" because he's 10? So like twice now it's repeated? For a reason? Eyes the rose urn forever nana wheeler I will find you.
But also the Wheelers are not really representation of an abuser-abuser enabler dynamic I just think both Karen and Ted could just be more emotionally supportive of Mike.
Virginia attempts to abandon Henry to Brenner, who does eventually become a sort of father figure to him. Virginia's "reflection" moment is her seeing the spiders (ie predator) and screaming and running away, being reflected on front of the rose wallpaper on the way down the stairs to hugging Victor- who is arguably being representing by spiders but not because he's harmed Henry but because he's. You know. A war criminal lol.
This post is going no where but obligatory rosegate canon statement because I literally cannot conceive why things in the Creel attic would be repeated in the Wheeler home with the added theme of Shitty Nuclear Family Cycles inspired by The Shining. Anyways see you in first shadow dick wheeler if you're not there I'm going to be very upset 💔

several reasons i like stuffed animal collecting - i really like how they combine handmade (”folk art”) and the lowest end of mass production, so you get these wild variations of “what is the shape of a tiger and how many legs should it have,” basically like a pop art absurdism thing; i really do like when it becomes like pop art style (considering purchasing one fucked up mickey mouse at some point, if i find the right one); as collectibles that i don’t snuggle (vs my own crew of stuffed animals that i do snuggle) they actually are great decorative items because they have scale and sculptural qualities; i like the carnival aspect because i am interested and critically support carnivals, as you know (i also love love love carnival chalkware but it’s only really easy to buy in person). most of all i love that it’s like: you have exhausted all of earth’s sensory pleasures and now you have to seek out the drug of lower brain cuteness. obsessed with the commodity of I Have To Hold and Love That Or We’ll Both Die
