hi!! i just saw ur response on the celiacs/new autoimmune treatment post and was just wondering if you have any insight at all into how long it could take for that method of treatment to be tested on other autoimmune diseases? (for reference: i have a rare form of vasculitis) i completely understand if theres just no way of knowing yet!! but just wanted to see how much about the process of these kinds of trials you might able to speak on :)
I wish I had clearer answers but it depends on a bunch of things like
How well your disease is understood
How common your disease is
How much funding is out there to research your disease
How complex your disease is
If the basic mechanism (as in, the root cause of your disease) is identified, it can be a lot easier to target with a method like this. But it also depends on how complex the mechanism is. A single point mutation in a gene is a lot easier to target than one with multiple mutations.
Definitely keep an eye out for clinical trials relating to your disease. One of the biggest hurdles in clinical trials is getting and keeping participants. For long term safety and efficacy trials especially, drop out rates of participation during follow-up can mean the need for more people enrolled in a trial, which extends the process even if the treatment works and is safe.
For example, I have worked on a Phase 3 clinical trial that began in the late 2010s and JUST finished the first part of its study because of the difficulty getting participants. The second part, which requires more specific types of participants, isn't expected to be finished for another two years (if we meet our targets).
I wish there was a magic button that took every exciting new research paper and turned it into medicine. But unfortunately bodies are complicated and lab animals (while incredibly useful) aren't a good enough comparison to an actual person. And because a lot of evil has been done in the name of medical research, we have a ton more ethical and safety considerations to go through before anything new makes it into a healthy person, let alone the person the disease is meant to treat.
So keep an eye out, but do what you can with your doctors and your support system to manage your disease. Treatments are coming, but these things can take decades.

a list of crimes bk moon has committed against me personally with the sequel in no particular order but you will Know which ones i feel more strongly about anyway:
javier smiling to himself and getting all nostalgic as he watches rakiel because he reminds him so very much of lloyd
like seriously this man cannot stop comparing the two of them and getting quietly happy because it brings back fond memories it is heartbreaking he literally has to remind himself to not get swept in sentimentality several times every time he talks with rakiel
and as if that wasn't enough damian and rakiel remind him so much of himself and lloyd that he ends up offering to help them without even thinking about it. like. he feels so identified with them, remembering how hard it had been for him and lloyd to go through that whole ordeal on their own that he just. tells them they have his support before he even realized what he's doing. he wasn't planning on doing that. good work on not getting sentimental babe.
when lloyd and javier are on a call planning how to defeat the demon king, despite the awful circumstances javier can't help but smile and then laugh at himself because no matter how terrible the situation is he still finds it enjoyable to prepare for something with lloyd like they used to do. "it was a feeling similar to a distant longing. or a joy that felt like going back to the past"
javier is pining so hard. like. it's insane.
AND HE JUST KEEPS SMILING SOFTLY WHENEVER HE GETS CONFIRMATION THAT LLOYD STILL HASN'T CHANGED HE'S STILL THE SAME PERSON JAVIER SPENT HIS LIFE WITH SOMEONE SEDATE ME
anyway
lloyd asking rakiel about javier. asking how he's doing. acting all nonchalant about it even kind of annoyed. and then once he's alone. sighing and then smiling faintly. "like the smile he used to smile at someone"
"'so you're doing well? i'm glad' a feeling that blooms for a moment. a memory that's suddenly missed."
i am. going to fucking explode.
and then. there's their actual face-to-face conversation. which. oh my god. i don't even know what to start with.
javier always saying "it's been a while lloyd-nim" no matter how long it has been since they last talked?? because any time at all is too long???
lloyd saying that if anyone hears him say that they'll think they're gyeonwoo and jiknyeo. y'know. the mythical forbidden lovers that live in different realms and can only meet when the stars align so to speak.
y'know. just casually comparing your protagonists to one of the most romantic and tragic couples in mythology. no biggie.
and again. javier smiling when he sees that lloyd is still just the way he was when they were together. hello. hi. can i help you.
lloyd knowing exactly how long it's been since they saw each other in person. down to the very day. "107 years, 7 months and 17 days".
javier getting really, really, really happy about it. about lloyd still being the same. and thinking that, maybe, lloyd feels the same way deep down.
lloyd being so very, very casual about saying "it's been a while so i'm glad to see you" very specifically calling back to the very thing javier says to him whenever they talk.
and then. and then javier. thinking as he sees lloyd leave. that it was really nice to meet him after so long. and that the sight of him leaving still felt the same as it did before. and wondering if those gyeonwoo and jiknyeo lloyd mentioned before felt like this too.
javier. comparing what he feels at seeing lloyd leave. to what the cowherd and the weaver girl felt at separating again.
bk moon i am crawling on your ceiling
anyway if this novel doesn't end with the barriers between hell and heaven falling apart so lloyd and javier can spend the rest of eternity together instead of helplessly pinning over the other and reminiscing over the lifetime they already spent together i will throw someone off a bridge <3

BAD MEDICINE ~Infectious teachers~ [PC GAME]
Kashu Remu (Chemistry) Route Translations (Part 11)
MC’s name is retained as the original MC name Kawana Hina.
* Words within ‘ ‘ are spoken in English –
*Spoiler free : Translations under cut!
*T/N: So... its been 7 years since I started this? Wow. This project is old, this blog is old, I am old-
Prologue / Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 / Part 9 / Part 10 / Part 11
Hina: I’m done preparing for tomorrow’s classes, and all my homework’s done too. I didn’t forget anything, did I?
Hina: Hmm… That should be all. I should turn in early so that I’m ready to face all the challenges ahead tomorrow.
Hina: (Haa… I wouldn’t be surprised if Kashu-sensei came up with something weird again tomorrow…)
Hina: (Or maybe it’s even odder if nothing strange were to happen.)
Hina: …I feel like I’ve gotten used to it, actually. Who knows if that’s actually a good thing though…
Hina: Huh? An Incoming call this late into the night? Wonder who?
Hina: And it’s from an unknown number…
Hina: (It’s not someone I know, but unknown numbers don’t usually call at this hour either.)
Hina: Hello? Um, who is this speaking…?
Kashu: …Yo.
Hina: That voice… K-Kashu-sensei!? Err, why do you have my number?
Kashu: I’m a teacher, you know?
Hina: So I’m aware, but that’s besides the matter. Can I help you with something? You don’t sound too good…
Kashu: Ahaha, really? I see. You can tell, huh…
Hina: Kashu-sensei…? Did something happen?
Kashu: Yeah… guess it doesn’t work out after all. I don’t know why, though.
Hina: Um… sensei? What exactly do you mean by that…?
Kashu: The medicine, of course.
Hina: Oh…
Kashu: Ahaha, do you still remember what I’m talking about?
Hina: Of course I do. There’s no way I could ever forget.
Hina: (But even I know that he can’t possibly make a medicine that’s capable of reviving the dead.)
Hina: (I’m sure he knows that too, but why’s he still persisting till now…?)
Kashu: I’m giving up on it.
Hina: What?
Kashu: I mean, it’s all useless isn’t it? She won’t come back no matter what I do.
Kashu: You must think so too, don’t you?
Hina: Sensei…
Kashu: Thank you, for holding back on my account. I’m sure you must have wanted to say it.
Kashu: And thank you for playing along with me…
Hina: Erm…?
Hina: (He’s acting strangely… and he sounds really sad…)
Kashu: Also, I realized something..
Kashu: If I can’t revive her, then all I have to do is to join her on the other side.
Hina: W-What!? But she’s already…
Kashu: Yup, so all I have to do is to die. Simple, isn’t it?
Hina: What are you talking about!? You can’t do that! That’s stupid!
Kashu: ……
Kashu: Come on now, don’t say that.
Kashu: I mean… that’s the last option I have. It’s so lonely living alone like this…
Hina: Kashu-sensei! Wait… Hang on!
Kashu: For my last hoorah, perhaps the school would be best. I’m thinking of jumping off the roof there.
Kashu: Hehe, this school was pretty fun while it lasted.
Hina: Hey! Listen to me!
Hina: If it really was that fun, then wouldn’t you want to live!? You can still turn around now!
Kashu: It was fun, but also lonely. It is so lonely being all by your lonesome, you know?
Hina: You’re not alone! You know that, don’t you!?
Hina: Please, just consider those around you! Don’t say that you want to die…
Kashu: I’ve already made my decision.
Hina: You can’t do it! Sensei!
Kashu: I’m really happy that you helped me out with all my experiments.
Kashu: I really did feel a little less lonely during those times. I even thought that perhaps I wasn’t that alone in this world.
Kashu: So, thank you.
Hina: !!!
Hina: Sensei? Sensei! Kashu-sensei!? He hung up on me!!!
Hina: (I can’t just sit back and do nothing… I need to get to school and stop him!)
Mother: Eh!? W-Where are you going in the middle of the night!?
Hina: School! I need to get there, now!!!
Mother: Huh? Take care on your way there, you hear me!?
———————————————
Hina: Haa, haa, haah…!
Hina: (Since when was the school this far away!?)
Hina: (I don’t know if I’ll make it at this rate… Please let me be there in time!)
Hina: ……!?
Hina: D-Don’t tell me…
Hina: (I’ve gotta hurry!!!)

And the fourth story, Fuguruma Youbi, is done! This one feels like an imposter syndrome callout post, except you have to be good to have imposter syndrome right? Anyway, this one really did hurt my feelings a lot, but for being based around a yokai that from what I can tell was a throwaway thought, it sure is an interesting take
Also, fun fact, looks like Tamenaga Shunsui, the POV character for this story, was an actual author of the late Edo era going into the Meiji Restoration, and one of his stories was among the first to be adapted to English after the isolationism policies ended
Anyway, standard legal stuff, I don't own this book or anything associated with it, you can buy a copy of the raw version from the link in my pinned post, I'm just making a fan translation because there isn't an official one, all that good stuff
For content warnings, we've got:
-Mentioned ablism and possible elder abuse
-Brief mention of child abuse
-Depictions of identity theft and catfishing
-Let me know if I missed any pertinent ones
And finally, here's the link to the doc:
As usual, hope y'all enjoy!

I’ve been translating parts of this anatomy text that I’m researching, and one of the authors in the preface to this specific edition is so petty about the author of a previous edition, it’s wonderful.
Some examples: “Lancisi’s growing age and his many affairs did not allow him to give us a complete interpretation of Eustachi’s anatomical illustrations; nor could he sometimes avoid writing as if he were hallucinating.”
“Lancisi himself noticed these fallacies after he published his edition of Eustachi’s illustrations in 1714, leading him to decide to create another—more expensive and befitting, and purged of that most execrable filth he had written. But, alas, prevented by his own death, he left the foul, infected thing uncleansed.”
“Alas, the Geneva edition of 1717 published Eustachi’s images with Lancisi’s monstruous and truncated commentary.”
And this great concluding sentence:
“In conclusion, it will be enough for me to have adapted such an excellent treasure so that it can be used by lovers of anatomy, with the hope that any who study it will have a safer, more detailed, and more accurate explanation than that of Lancisi.”
