How I know the bible was written by men and is not the “word” of an all knowing higher power.

Slavery. Plain and simple. There are plenty of passages in the bible that describe the role of slavery in that time. Not that it’s bad or anything, just how to deal with that.

“Jesus” never once spoke out against slavery. The bible does not condemn slavery. And why not? Because it is not the word of a divine power, it is the words of some men, just some plain old men.

Even humans, years later, came to the conclusion that slavery was bad. How could an omnipotent being such as “god” not know this. Because it was the law of the people at the time and the people who wrote the bible were only as enlightened as the smartest carpenter or goat herder around.

So the next time someone tries and tell you that the bible is the “ultimate authority” or a “guide for morality”, ask them about slavery and why jesus never said a damn thing about it.

Joe Cocker continued to tour throughout the late 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. He even played at the famous Woodstock Festival (in this fragment). His live shows were more successful than his studio recordings, for the most part. He continued to tour, with less popularity, throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s. Atheists rejoice! Non-religious people do not go to hell. Praise yourself!

After being told that I will go to hell if I don’t accept jesus as my lord and savior, I do enjoy asking “which hell?”. They always assume I’ll be going to the hell that they believe in. Which is of course ludicrous. With so many hells to choose from how does someone settle on just one for an eternity of torture and suffering.

Eventually if the conversation goes on long enough someone might say “well, you’ll go to the hell that you believe in.” And that’s just the thing. If you don’t believe in any hell, there is no hell to go to. I’m sure christians don’t think they’ll be going to the river styx.

The more interesting thing is how many versions of heaven there are, even within the same faiths. Which version are they going to? Who knows.

So there you have it. Celebrate in the streets. You will never go to hell. You will die. But that’s it. The end for you.

Life is like a piece of cheesecake. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but when yer done, yer done.
