people seeing gifs of the 15th doctor having gay little moments and going "ohh what's this show? i gotta watch it" is literally ending me not just coz of the concept that anyone can be unaware of doctor who but also bc like. while i do think it's a show ppl should watch in its entirety. DON'T DO IT FOR GAY REP LMAO. like it literally does have a lot of lgbt rep even all the way back in season 1 of 2005 fame but watching 13 seasons of doctor who coz something gay happens in the new eps is like. idk finding out there's a new pride and prejudice adaptation with a gay character in it and going ohhhh that sounds fun:) guess i'll go watch every adaptation ever made

what's it like being part of arguably the greatest draft class of all time – greatest dallas draft class of all time – with oettinger and heiskanen? so the stars took heiskanen and oettinger in the first round, you in the second round, so it was a very productive draft. is that lost on you, that class?
no, I mean, it's, it's — it's truly a special moment, I mean, we always see it, uh, and think about it when it's ever brought up, how special it is. you know, you don't find a franchise goalie, a franchise d-man, and a player … a forward like me in, uh, one round very often. so, um, very — you look back on it now and uh, we hit all of the spots, and six years later we're all pretty, uh … producing, and being big parts of this team. and hopefully and ideally we're gonna be big parts through these, uh — our carers.

Was kinda interesting watching Aquaman 2 do that thing Hollywood movies do where a villain barks orders in an non-English language to signal to the American audience that they're foreign and scary, except this time the actress doing it was speaking portuguese so I actually understood everything she was saying and it was just weird and abrupt. I guess they just told her to translate and say the lines in her own language but didn't direct her how to adapt the dialogue accordingly, so she ends up just telling the henchmen to pick up a guy in a very stilted formal factual manner while everything's exploding around them, that was kinda funny.

ok sorry the OTHER thing about lucienne is like. as previously stated she is dream's handpicked emissary from the waking world to the dreaming she's the diplomat in chief she's the translator she's the bridge. because the dreaming is, in a very real way, dream's own psyche, this is tantamount to giving lucienne a tremendous degree of access to his interiority and by transitive property also tantamount to entering into a deeply emotionally intimate relationship with her (unimportant for the purposes of this post whether that relationship is platonic or romantic).
now, in general, looking at the pattern of dream's close emotional relationships—dream doesn't share himself with people as a rule (beyond the access that all things that live have to the dreaming; but i'm talking about his self here, the one he doesn't like to acknowledge he even has), but when he does share with people, it's with people who have some shadow on the soul, so to speak. just looking at attested relationships in show canon, his deepest emotional connection seems to be with death, who embodies the duality of light and dark even better than he does himself. calliope is the muse of epic poetry—heroism and tragedy—and also bears the sort of divine pride that led her to cut dream off for hundreds or thousands of years when he wronged her. the less said about that other guy, the better, but he's no sunshine-rainbows-unicorns type—he's a soldier of fortune, a bandit and a killer, a man who profits from the sale of human life. even best bird matthew, in comix canon, had a sordid past that will maybe be partially retconned for the show but has still been gestured at.
dream likes the complicated ones. he's drawn to them. they speak to something in him that he won't acknowledge in himself (he has to be Whole, fully integrated, without reservation, because he is the king and he is the dreaming and if the dreaming ain't whole then the universe is in trouble—but he feels that ache nonetheless).
all that is to say: when people try to portray lucienne as dream's Designated Well-Adjusted Neurotypical Friend, i begin to harm and maim.

kitten is my favorite h:tp character, closely followed by Boy, but markus Definitely speaks to me as an adhd person with a now sober / in recovery parent. like, yeah. i ALSO don't want my brain to be doing what it's doing, my adhd affects me and my life and everyone in it and my relationships. yes i need you to spell things out for me.
idk. big d is Fun, but as someone who had to put their drunk mother (who had driven home drunk from the bar) to bed more times than i can count as both a teenager and a young adult, markus holds a special place in my heart because it does really feel like you and your parents are speaking different languages, and there's that feeling of anger, of resentment- "another poorly justified thing that we have to take care of".

Talking in the comments made me want to also say in the writing advice sphere of whatever this blog is…
So much of the best fic you’re gonna read is written by people for whom English is a second or maybe third language. And it’s wild and magical that people are so talented.
And also I hope knowing this encourages you to read literature in translation, because English as a language is formally very… uh… it’s a fucking mess, okay. And there are other languages and literary traditions that are much more robust, and there are subsequently some really fucking cool things that happen when you run these forms through the cold tap of an English translation.
Some of my favourite reads of the last few years have been Mexican, Russian, Swedish, French, Polish… and there’s not been much that was originally written in English that had touched them, at least in contemporary fiction.
A great place to start is to look at the long lists for the Booker International prize if you’re curious about contemporary work!

🚨 DUPLICATE ALERT 🚨
Clarus Amiticia is present in both Bracket A & B! Which is my mistake, my apologies.
So, some of the previously removed Grandpas have a chance to come back in the competition, and take his place in Round 1-B against Abraham Van Helsing.

I can never unfollow menalez no matter how much I hate online fighting because every day her blog forces me to confront the complexity of a human psyche and how it leads to the insane posts on tumblr.com
