What're your thoughts on the aa movie? I haven't seen it in years but I remember thinking it was very charming, though fast paced. I appreciate their commitment to everyone's dress and hair styles. Sorry if you have it tagged somewhere, I'm on mobile and the search is awful
i've seen it, i think its a great! it's rare to see an adaptation take so much creative liberties with its source while managing to stick so true to the spirit of the thing. phoenix's actor does a great job, and i love that he is capable of going :3 in real life which is not something i knew i needed for phoenix but i definitely did need for him.
i think it does some fantastic stuff visually where the colors are pretty muted and the settings are more fully realized than those of the game in a way that really serves to make the events feel more grounded and less cartoony. but then they balance that out by giving both the settings and costuming the right amount of quirkiness to not be bland or gritty, and to still keep some of that playful energy in there. i think the hologram nonsense they do in the courtroom is a fun way to adapt video game mechanics for a movie and it's goofy enough to make the courtroom drama feel the proper amount of campy. its also just very visually appealing! its well lit and has some solid shot compositions! like it looks good!
the scene where maya gets to yell at redd white is awesome, and im always shocked by how well the movie does making you empathize with yanni yogi of all people. i get the sense that it was made by someone who really cared about its source material but didn't feel limited or constrained by that, and was instead able to channel that into something with a distinct voice rather than being a crude imitation. definitely worth watching at least once.
also the child actors they cast were soooooo cute i want to put apple slices in their lunchboxes

9 people you'd like to get better
@yabagofmilfs thanks for the tag :]!!
three ships i like: hockeywise, i love any combo of sid/geno/tanger/ek, particularly intrigued by sid/army, and ully/sway (AUGH)
first ship ever: my memory is so awful... it's so bad. it might have been spirk, but there's a good chance it was dan and phil ??? rpf-er for life i guess
last song listened: autoclave by the mountain goats !!!!!!!!! it's just me and tmg's discography against the world
favorite childhood book: so there's this seven-book fantasy series called wereworld by curtis jobling and i do NOT know if it holds up but i do know that it was my first big book series and i was obsessed with it and it kept me from reading the normal staples like percy jackson and hp and a series of unfortunate events. the first time i ever wrote fic it was bc i was in-between books, waiting for the next one to come in, and i was so full of thoughts i kept my little composition notebook at the ready. i used to fall asleep basically rotating the mc in my mind
currently reading: house of leaves (ive been in this process of reading hol for almost a year)
currently watching: nothing!! tv/shows/movies aren't my thing. the closest i get is youtube videos like jacob geller's, but only occasionally
currently consuming: sitting in the caf for lunch drinking one of those shitty little community coffees and a cookie. yum!
currently craving: the little coffee shop in the library on campus has this cinnamon spiced latte drink that is DELICIOUS but they've been out for the past week </3
tagging: @gaybroons @burkysmirky @imbackonmy-bullshit @cataroo im three months old i don't actually know anyone. consider yourself tagged or untagged at your preference <3!!!

hey, i’ve read some of your writing and i really like it. do you have any tips?
aw dude that's really sweet. i'm really self conscious about everything i write so i appreciate hearing that. i'm still learning myself, so my advice is probably gonna be kind of obvious yet nebulous (much like my writing). oh and im not great at following my own advice, but we can ignore that.
first and foremost i'd say try to have fun. get weird with it. don't stress too much about it. it's supposed to be an enjoyable pastime, so write what YOU like, how you like. the "rules" of grammar and composition are helpful, but you're allowed to be a lot more lax with creative writing. i know i am 👀
in my humble opinion, you can never have too many details, even- or especially- oddly specific ones. personal experiences are a great way to inject some minutiae, and i enjoy the insight they provide into the author's perspective, background, thought process, etc.. there are infinite other tools at your disposal too. like the number of times i've found myself browsing ancient, niche forums just to confirm one insignificant bit of information is ridiculous.
don't be afraid to take your story as seriously or unseriously as you want. sometimes i'll be snapped out of focus with the thought of "am i really writing this rn" 😂 but i just try to remind myself that i'm (usually) having fun, i'm not hurting anyone and someone might even enjoy the final product.
for eene, try to listen to the voice acting as much as you watch the animation. and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone when writing a character. i'm neither comfortable, nor very good at writing for ed, but i nutted up and gave it a shot recently and yeah it's nuclear level cringe but i suppose it can't get any worse, right? RIGHT???.... i love learning new words, so when i'm writing for edd (and in general) you know i keep that thesaurus tab open. with eddy, there's always room for more irreverence. i'm also one of those people that cannot help but drop almost every g when i write eddy. and it's just as important to get their idiolects down, which can be tricky. BUT that's mostly if your goal is to stay close to the source material, which is definitely not necessary. i'm just not a very creative person 😂
if you're in a rut, skip to another section, or hell even another chapter. the fic i'm working on rn was hatched from a simple premise several months ago, so i started at the end and have been building on that. an unconventional starting point can be really helpful when you're struggling to start at all. because i'm me, it's turned into a nightmare beast that i can't seem to contain, but i still have a general idea of where we're going and we'll get there eventually lmfao. to that point, outlines, bullet points, notes, etc. are all very useful.
take breaks, let her sit for a while. i'll write a whole bunch, leave, come back to review and be like girl what the hell is this. fresh eyes make a big difference! however, don't be like me and get too caught up in the weeds. i make compulsive little tweaks of my shit up to the point and even after i hit post. more often than not, it's more stress than it's worth. i just can't help it 🥴
and then of course, read other people's stuff. i'm not much of a fiction reader but i make exceptions for the sake of my hyper-fixation. it truly does help to see different perspectives and styles of writing. everyone has a unique voice that really comes through in creative writing, which i love. i've gleaned a lot from reading other people's work as well. i frequently come across new and creative ideas for changing up sentence structure, dialogue tags and narration by reading stuff from fellow fans.
aaaaaand yeah idk what else really. like i said, i'm not the best at writing but i think as long as you're getting your ideas across in the way that you want to, you're golden. anyone who makes shitty remarks about someone else's writing can sit and spin honestly.

A Barbz Brainrot~🤍
Still thinking about Venti and a composer/performer windblume ngl~🎶
Maybe you meet him at the Irodori festival, later at night at Ritou, a light and pleasant breeze enveloping you as you sit on the dock, facing the sea. Most people have turned in for the night except for you and a most peculiar green clad bard who had caught you humming to yourself, notebook and pen in hand, trying to create a melody to accompany the harmony you had composed.
Tumblr media
"I don't think I've seen someone write music without a lyre in ages! Ehe..." He chuckles, you trying to compose yourself and be rid of the bright pink dust on your cheeks. It's surprising how you managed to not fall into the water.
"Uhm, yes! Yeah, I'm not...I'm not that good with a-a lyre...to be honest?" You say awkwardly to the stranger with pretty braids and a flower you don't think you've seen before in his hair.
"Aha...I'm just messing with you. But if you've ever stepped foot in Mondstadt..."
He gives you a cheeky smile and takes out a lyre, prettier than you had thought one could be.
"You'd know exactly what I mean."
"So I take it you're from Mondstadt?" You ask, already able to match his energy for some reason.
He daintily strums the lyre, his face turning into a posh smirk. "Guilty as charged."
As you laugh softly into your hand, you take more notice of his features. You could have sworn you could have seen him before...
"So!" He announces as he plops down right beside you. "What's a little poet like you doing all alone out here? It may not seem like it, but the night is still so young!"
"Oh...no no no, I'm not a poet, see, this is just a bunch of nonsense and vomit in the form of what I like to call "lyrics." You anxiously giggle, already alert of his emerald eyes dangerously eyeing up the journal stuffed with sheet music in your lap with a growing chaotic excitement.
"I-im also a bit shy when it comes to performing and the like, so..."
"Why? You've got one of the most beautiful voices I've heard since I've been here! And trust me-there is way too much talent here."
Your heart skips a beat.
"But I wasn't even-"
"Don't be silly, humming counts." He says sing-songingly.
"Well, I- uhm, thank you, Mr. Bard." You finally give in, a small blush dusting your cheeks.
"Ah, that's more like it." He sighs with a relaxed smile on his face.
...
He looks at you expectantly, knowing what you're going to ask him.
"I'm sure your voice is lovely too! Uhm... Mr...Bard...uhm... Wouldnt you prefer if I called you anything else?"
"Other than the 3x winner of 'Best Bard of Mondstadt?" He can't help but laugh at how your mouth forms an o shape.
He leans over and props his elbow on his knee, raising his eyebrows dramatically. "You, Cecelia, may call me "Venti."
He leans a little closer, shoulder to shoulder with you, and gives dramatic jazz hands. "Venti the Bard..."
You try to do the jazz hands along with him, but you just can't help but look at him in awe. Was he bluffing? Sure he was kind of flamboyant, but...
"Allow me to soothe your troubled mind~a Cecelia is a flower from Mondstadt...personally my favorite, but..."
You're still staring at him, kinda confused.
"ah, I see." He smiles. "A flower is a plant that grows out of the ground! It's got pretty peeetaals, and steeemmms, and-"
You lightly bop him on his head so his hat falls slightly over his face. "Not that!"
He fixes up his hair as he smiles goofily at you. "I'm just messing with ya!"
"it's just that your...are you actually..."
"What? Don't trust me?"
"No, no! I-"
"I'll have you know that I have a multitude of compositions to my name, thank you very much!" He playfully yells, whipping out some sort of book and flipping the pages so they all brush against your nose. You crinkle your nose and close your eyes, trying to stifle your giggles. Who even is this person?
"Here. Hold my lyre for a moment." He says, plopping his pretty lyre in your lap softly before thoroughly digging through his music.
"Mein Frühlung is a dear thing, but she's seen some things. Feel free to play a little bit! Go on! We've a performance in a while, she needs a good warm up."
"Why so late?" You ask, letting your fingers delicately grace the strings of the lyre.
"I told you. The night is still is still so young. Taverns are thriving, and the locals have not even had an ounce of their fair share of Mondstadt music."
"I suppose that makes sense. Also isn't tonight one of the nights where performers get free drinks or can at least guarantee someone's gonna buy a drink for them?"
"Oh! That's even better...hehehe..." The Bard recalls deviously as he seems to have located the music he was looking for.
"Alright, cecelia~ I'm gonna prove to you that I can make pretty music too, just like you~"
"I don't doubt you, "Mr Venti the Bard." You giggle as you look at the music now laying in your lap. He takes the lyre from you, and then already looks prepared to play.
"Ready?!”
You look back up at him as he adjusts himself to the key. “Wait, what?!!!”
He huffs. “Well, how will you know if you like my music if you haven’t sung it?”
“But-“
“And it’s a dueeettttt~”
“Wait, really?”
“Sure is, silly! Now… top or bottom? Both voice parts are closer in range to each other, but the top is definitely the main melody for most of the song. Personally I think you could go either way, but I kind of want your voice to stand out…”
You giggle, still in disbelief that he’s actually getting you to sing. “Okay, fine~ I’ll take the melody. It looks quite pretty.”
He smiles warmly and doesn’t waste time in playing a delicate intro to his piece.
The first verse belongs to him-his voice catches you off guard with how smooth and soft it is. There was something so unique about it too. You had heard so many male performers with beautiful voices, but there was just something so different about Venti’s. It was almost as if it were the wind itself-so innocent and free, yet it knew all the secrets of the world. Before you can get too lost in the beauty, his eyes lock with yours, cueing you in.
Now it’s his turn to hear your gift. You’re sight-reading~ he knows this. It doesn’t phase him one bit when your voice is a bit shakey. He doesn’t understand how you could be so nervous with a beautiful and consistent voice like yours. It’s so distinct, but just fits perfectly. Something about it resonates with him…but he’s going to contain his excitement so he doesn’t ruin your flow.
When your voices meet in the chorus, it’s a dance. Two beautiful voices intermingling and breathing life your waltz, only supported by a harmony of arpeggiated chords on the lyre. When you repeat the chorus one last time, the bard decides to play the chords together-one reason being variety, the other just being…it feels right.
The last chord settles, and all you can do is look into the bards eyes. You had no idea someone could sing like that…even with such a simple song, he put so much life into it.This clearly wasn’t a gig just for money, or a silly title like “Best Bard of Mondstadt” to him.
“Well, what do you say?” He says, cocking his head. “Is it worth my title?”
“That was so pretty…how did you make that all by yourself?”
He chuckles. “Well, I can’t take all the credit…your voice truly is something, my dear.”
You put your hands on your cheeks. “Oh please… even then, I didn’t write it!
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He asks, gently strumming his lyre.
“I mean-“
“Ah. You’ve never played a lyre. I’d love to teach you!”
“That’s not what I meant…but wait, you’d do that?”
He puts a friendly arm around your shoulder, and you allow him to pull you slightly closer.
“Of course I would! You’re already clearly a talented musician, so it wouldn’t be too much trouble-just a lot of dedication on your part.”
He takes your hand with his free hand and inspects it. “And you’ve got some good hands, by the way. They would be perfect for lyre playing.”
You blush deeply, eyes widening at the out of pocket compliment. “Uhm, thank you!”
“So, how would I repay you? I’m far from rich, but I’ll do anything to return your kindness!”
He smiles cheekily, his cheeks turning slightly red. “Ehe~”
“Mr. Venti the Bard?”
“So…first of all, may I have your name? We’ve a deal to strike.”
“Oh dear…”
“Come on, come on! You just said…” he says.
“It’s (y/n).” You respond with a huge nervous smile. With this bard, he could be asking anything.
He takes your hands in his. “Well, fair (y/n)… in exchange for me taking you under my wing, would you be willing to do me a few favors from…time to time?”
You still are smiling, eyes now closed. “What type of favors?”
“Ehe~”
Archons help me.
“So… remember that performance I was talking about?” He asks, twirling his braid in his fingers.
“Yes…you were referring to you and you’re lyre, right?”
He just smiles. It’s a very pretty smile.
“Right?”
He raises his eyebrows.
“Oh archons, I should have known!” You say, laughing nervously into your hands.
“Please (y/n)? I promise, I know what a beautiful voice is. I’ve been there and done that, I have a lot of experience! More than you would think!” He begs. He gently takes your hands back into his own.
“I’m gonna mess it up…”
“No you’re not! And even if you do, nobody has a clue. Only me. And I think the performance has much more to do with quality rather than memorization and using the score as a script…okay?”
“Pretty please?”
“Promise you won’t get mad?” You ask shyly.
He holds out his pinkie to you. “I promise.”
The deal was made, and he instantly pulls you up with him and links his arm with yours.
“I’m so happy you’ve decided to join me!” He says, beaming. “Now let’s go!”
"Its now?
“Archons help you…”

I ront know your oc but your new art popped up on the p5 tag and scratches my brain right, it might be the composition but its giving me "She is gonna make the 3rd semester even more psycological horror :)" energy, loving her hair color too
Also, about your Kasumi's post, i don't deny that Atlus tropped the ball about Sumire's arc at some point but I think Kasumi was a good sister, but also flawed. She probably had more pressure on her shoulders for being the 'oldest one' due japanese's standards, despite being just some minutes older than Sumi, so she probably also wore a mask of perfection to trick society she was what they wanted. Plus instead of just being insensitive, i read her last moment more as her being one of those people coping with humor 'my sister is sad im gonna say a joke to cheer her up :)' and it went BAD. And when Sumi belives to be her sister, she is not a 1:1 copy of the real Kasumi, she is Sumire's own cognition of Kasumi.
Tldr: i think both twins loved eachother deeply but there was a huge lack of comunication a bit due the fact they were 14 at the time and a bit due japanese norms. Also sorry for the ramble 😅
hey!!! first off i am so sorry for answering so late, i've been going through it a little as of recent😭
secondly EEEE TYYYYY i'm really normal about my oc and i can and will talk about her a LOT!!! if you're interested it should be really easy to get a good grasp on her character if you check out her ref and my many posts abt her chronicled in this tag
okok onto the sumi thing--gonna put that under the cut bc of royal spoilers
i think a lot of projection went into my post talking about the sumis tbh bc i have a LOT of issues regarding jealousy and self worth and hoo boy do i project all that onto sumi. so i end up going "grrr everyone better than me is actually awful grrr" as like this weird but natural reaction.
i do think kasumi really did love her sister!! she was just caught up in both fame, praise, and possibly expectations like you suggested. and abt her treating sumire in an insensitive way, while i'm sure she didn't intend anything malicious behind any of her actions, i'd still read what she said as fairly insensitive, albeit unintentionally. she knows sumire's got issues with self worth comparing herself to her but doesn't really try to listen and understand--sumire even points that out.
and while i also think sumire did love her sister, i still stand by my opinion that she should've bore some kind of anger or grudge toward her out of jealousy. and naturally, because she thinks kasumi's so perfect (and out of love), she'd internalize that grudge onto herself just to further her own self loathing. but even with that, i think it's okay if she did harbor that grudge--it only makes sense for you to be mad at someone you constantly compare yourself to, even if you love them with all your heart. it's really something else for her to work through and feel emotions about, bc i really don't think ATLUS let her be emotional enough in third sem.
tl;dr, i'm sure both sisters did love each other very much, one's just unaware of how to handle someone with a crumbling mental health and the other has jealousy issues she internalizes as self-loathing

In your headcanon what would gourmands reaction to hll (hunter long legs) ?
good question!
personally, ive always had this specific hook in mind that.. the most interesting thing for me, personally, to see would be gourmand meeting hunter before theyve submitted fully to the rot while theyre still very ill and into the negative cycles. specifically, gourmands known nature as a leader and caretaker as well as a food aficionado helping hunter create bigger meals to feed them while their hunger needs have increased just clicks together nicely, i like to imagine gourmand taking care of hunter for those few short cycles before it really gets bad. it must be so awful to be able to actionably help someone and still have them continue to inevitably decay. (i dont have any particular headcanons about hunters origin yet (cant untangle anything thatd be interesting to me personally) but im certain if you imagined that hunter (and survivor and monk) are from the same colony that too could tug at your heart strings).
i actually have made an animatic featuring hunter and gourmand interacting. this is insanely rough, because i only make it like all other animatics to iron out composition (and only shared it to like. my discord lol)

hiii, may i please request a matchup for twisted wonderland?
my name is alex and my pronouns are they/them and im intp-t and my zodiac sign is virgo.
my personality: im really shy and kind of awkward when socializing others bcos im not really good interacting with them so i just stay in the sideline where i observe people and their behavior and thats the reason why people depict me as intimidating and hard to approach and also bcos of my stoic expression too but when im with my close friends, im really bubbly and more comfortable with them. im really quite moody sometimes and i also tend to overthink things. i always listen to my friends whenever they're having a problem and just be there for them sometimes pitching in some advice now and then. im also the type of person to run away from their problems and tend to push people away bcos i dont want to burden them, i also laugh at small things, im also the type of person to read a body language very well bcos of my observant nature. i also get insecure with my appearance too
my hobbies/likes includes writing stories and reading books, poetry composition, learning about stars and outer space, watching horror videos on yt, staying up all night writing down my ideas about my next stories, sleeping, i also have a fascination to ocean and i tend to stare at it, dark academia, i also like abandoned places especially if its haunted, i also like matcha green tea, i really love a meadow full of lavenders
my dislikes are loud people, loud places too, vegetables (depends on my mood), cheaters and playboys, worms, hot weather, arrogant people
my type is someone who's very loyal since i have trust issues and someone who can be my safe haven when things get so overwhelming.
that's all and thank you!! ^^
Matchup for Alex!

Twisted Wonderland: Idia Shroud
You two get along well, you're both extremely quiet and withdrawn from groups, but within time you both begin to open up and that's how the two of you met. You were standing on the side lines one day watching students move around interacting with each other not giving a single glance your way, that was until you bumped into him, Idia Shroud.
His birthdays December 16 making him a sagitarious and the funny thing is from the information I've see virgos and sagitarious are very complatible togeher. When the two are together they seem to find themselves in deep and intellectual conversations and the two tend to share common intersts.
You two share various interests/hobbies and enjoy talking about them with each other, except Idia is more of a listener then a talker. His favorite moments are you talking about your hobbies and the things that make you happy and filled with joy and be loves these moments because it makes him happy.
You and his brother, Onho tend to get along really well and have amazing coversations with each other. It makes Idia happy to see the people he holds closest to him getting along and he's thankful that Ortho approves of you guys.
You mention wanting someone who's loyal and I think Idia is that type of person, he's cares deeply for those close in his life and cherishes them. He hopes that when you're down that you can come to him and except his help and that he can do that same for you. For your guys first date, Idia took the two of you out a night to watch the stars, building a telescope for the two of you to use. The whole night was spent in awe, staring at all of the neat constilations and learning more about the history of space

on a more genuine note. yes im making three posts right after each other literally dont worry abt it. i want to dissect the art of trigun like a frog. bc to me personally trigun is always a... scary series. but while tristamp is high tension high dread high blood. the manga being monochrome B/W means you get starkly terrifying(?) gore and a lot more mood. tristamp is bloody and stressful but trimax is gorey and like..... whatever word describes your protagonist going through constant psychological torture. i dont think tristamp can achieve trimax's horror in the same way that i dont think trimax could ever do the awe-inspiring terror that makes tristamp stand out. in tristamp we don't watch a man's arms get cut off but we do hear it, and we see the blood (and the arms). but trimax.... trimax we see a lot of heads and bodies impaled. we see someone's intestines. we see plants. who are angels. who are. body horror creatures. their proportions are. so much. but.... and its so fascinating to see, in hindsight, since i started w the anime, tristamp takes the body horror out of trimax and instead replaces it with aprehension and dread and loss. something abt... the difference between terror and horror.
both are good. both are SO good. but theres just inherently a different vibe and atmosphere! the artists for stampede set out to make a very specific type of art and i think they succeeded! nightow made a manga that looks a very specific way and it's fuckin amazing! both have their problems. i am not saying one is better (oh my gd do i have my design gripes w tristamp and my composition gripes w trimax) but fuck they are just. different. theyre different. and if you want to see tristamp but More. read trimax.

🔥 - furries
oh boy. woof. i was initially overwhelmed trying to pick out an unpopular opinion but i realized. why settle for one!
yeah, furry stuff isn't all about sex for everyone. it would be fine if it was though. it is fine if someone's interest in furry stuff is purely a sex thing. in an AU where being a furry was all about sex, it would still be fine. trying to wash over the horniness of many (not all) furries in an attempt to defend is a waste of time. someone's investment in furry media can be for the exclusive purpose of jerking off and that's all good ✨
there are no requirements to being a furry. it's not an ontological state with necessary and sufficient conditions. you don't need a suit. you don't need a sona. you don't need an account on xyz website. IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS. nobody gatekeeping furryness in either direction is worth your time. you can appreciate one piece of furry media every three weeks and call yourself a furry. you can follow three hundred furry artists and say you're not. it's not serious.
there is no essential political economy nor demographic composition to "furry culture" of any sort. there are commie furries. there are lib furries. there are nazi furries. there are lots of gay and trans furries and there are lots of cishet furries. furries are, modulo the sort of selection that occurs in filtering who has access to online and offline spaces where furry stuff might happen, basically just a subset of the general population. which is to say that being a furry is value-neutral, and is neither inherently "revolutionary" nor inherently reprehensible nor inherently gay nor inherently straight. there is no one furry culture, and subcultures and communities can differ just as much as with non-furries.
furry aesthetics are a site of ambiguity. this is hardly unique to the furrosphere, but people can and do derive pleasure from furry content that may not in design align with their orientations and that's fine. as a very masc trans lesbian, i enjoy a lot of mlm furry art because i can project my own experiences of gender on to what is depicted (caveat: there is also a lot of nasty transphobia and transmisogyny in furry subcultures trying to misread trans characters, just as in many other subculture)
a lot of furry wlw art by wlws is boring. sorry about it. it's beholden to the same trappings of desirability as any other art and snzzzz. there are many many gems of course (gammelgaedda lookin at u) but the median looks like it was arranged in a sterile room with artificial lighting and forced poses. tbc i am in awe of the technical skill that goes into a lot of this art. it also just makes me feel absolutely nothing at all otherwise. and before someone grabs me by my goat horns: im not saying this is a problem unique to wlw art, nor that wlw stuff is especially vulnerable to it. but I'm a lesbian and that's what I seek out most, so it's what I'm commenting on
you can have as many sonas as you want. some people seem strangely committed to one person one sona. you can be as polymorphic as you like. you don't have to choose.
people joke about furry artists making bank but: a lot of them undercharge. i paid something like thrice the listed price for my icon bc it was worth at least that much.
there's this one furry art style, with airbrushed looking gradients and broad rounded curves and painfully neat lines. sharp colour boundaries and hypersaturation. idk if I'm conveying this successfully but it's everywhere. and i cannot stand it it's so unpleasant to look at sorry 😭

hello hello sorry if this is an odd ask but i re-read your "summer suprised us" fic every once in a while even though im not into dsmp anymore, and it hits EVERY time. lovely fic thankyou for writing it :]
ty so much! that fic was very fun to write and taught me a surprising amount about classical music. if you dont mind imma take the opportunity to talk about some little details on the music i chose and why. here's the fic link before i ramble.
Starting with Fur Elise, this one is primarily there because it's a common beginners piece, and at the start Tubbo is just learning piano, but also because I thought the simple melody from the right hand and the somewhat chaotic discordant notes from the left symbolised tubbo's mental state pretty well: very put together on the outside, more panicked on the inside. also, the way the song switches from a pleading composition at the beginning to a more panic and frantic one towards the end is rather fitting for the manberg arc, when most of the fic is set.
The second one mentioned is Mass in Times of War by Haydn, which Tommy is said to tear up at. This is because the song is, as the title says, about holding on to faith and religion during conflict, which I think was very important to tommy.
The next two piano pieces don't have much meaning, but a vocal song is played twice: Orrin Tucker's You'd Be Surprised, released in 1939. The song itself is about a man who seems demure and unattractive on the outside, but is secretly a very good/kind of 'wild' lover (for the standards of the 1930s), but i thought the meaning was pretty easy to twist, so in summer surprised us the song hints at first schlatt and then wilbur as unassuming and pleasant seeming men with hidden intentions or darker sides.
And finally, twice in the fic the phrase "da capo al fine" is used, meaning "from the head (beginning) to the end", essentially instructing someone to play the part they just played once more. here are the two lines where it's used:
It tastes awful. It is the first time you drink it, but it will not be the last. He gives you a cigarette next. Puts his hands over yours, and guides you through the notes, da capo al fine.
-
New L’Manberg dies like everything else. You create a new country. Da capo al fine . You still smoke.
okay ramble over hope you enjoyed

How do you go about working on a comic in the long run? And what differences have you experienced from drawing a single piece to drawing a comic? Any advice for someone trying out comic art for the first time?
this ask is so funny to me because i have a notoriously awful track record for working on comics in the long run. there was a year-long gap between coliseum au part 2 and 3. but actually in my experience i absolutely have to have an entire story at least planned out from the get-go in order to see it through to the end. it tends to work out much better for me if im able to work through the entire thing in one sitting, but obviously this isn’t feasible for larger comics so having a full script written or at the very least planned out REALLY helps me to not lose steam halfway through. as for differences between a comic and a single piece, you REALLY have to think about comics as a seperate medium with their own rules and features to exploit. panel and speech bubble composition are SUPER important and also some of your most effective tools when creating comics so you really have to constantly be thinking about them. when i do normal pieces i don’t usually sketch beforehand because i find it usually hinders the expressiveness of the piece overall, but comics are my exception to that rule. i always always always sketch out the panel and speech bubble composition for each page before starting the actual drawing in the panels, because if i just create panels and bubbles as i go it can get to feel really static or crowded and start hindering the flow of the story. comics are designed to tell stories first and foremost, so your main concern when drawing and designing them has to be how well your story is being told! my advice would be to study comics. read manga, read manhua, read western comics, read whatever you can find, and look for how the authors and artists compose their work because professionals are usually very good at what they do. ive never taken a class about comics or anything but ive been obsessed with them since i was seven years old, and i got this far by literally just reading every graphic novel i could get my hands on and stealing the techniques i really liked. i hope this helps!!

i was gonna draw tonight but i dropped my tablet pen and the barrel of the pen broke off and flew somewhere underneath (??) my bed (?) and now i cant find it so I’m just gonna answer asks before bed instead. just some art asks and more mentions of infinity train LOL
Tumblr media
What program and brushes do you use when making your art?
@ravki hi! part of this is in my FAQ but i’ll say it again anyways LOL: I use photoshop CC and have used photoshop for pretty much....my whole art career. I’ve dabbled in clip and paint tool sai in the past but photoshop is my true wife, we eloped away from her awful father adobe many years ago and are very happy together.
as for brushes... I should prob put this info in my FAQ too lol,... my default brush set is actually free to download here! Tho I will say I also use steve ahn’s storyboarding brush sometimes and lately i’ve been using shiyoon kim’s brushes A TON. Shiyoon’s cost a couple bucks but they’re super worth it imo
How do you choose colors?
This is kind of a difficult one to describe from scratch but hmm.... I’ll put it this way. Generally when I go into coloring or painting something I already have some colors in mind. Like for a certain piece I know I want a bright green, or a magenta, or a dark blue in certain areas. A lot of the time I know a mood I want. So I’ll start with that core color tone and build around it. I’ll use an example from a recent piece
Tumblr media
So you can see here that the first color I accessed was that bright cyan. So I start with that bright cyan and then bring in its “friends” in the form of analogous colors (shown below on the far left)
Tumblr media
greens greys etc. THEN I know I want the characters to stand out against all the blue so I start laying down warm contrasting colors for them (middle group). the mat under them is orange, skin tones are warm, ryans flannel is red etc. then to get them to work together I work more cool colors into the shadows and slightly warmer (not too warm because its a cool img overall so in this case, greener LOL) colors into highlights.
hope that makes sense? for me choosing colors is a lot about story and composition. If you know what you want to say, the mood you want to create, where you want to go, the path to get there becomes a lot clearer imo.
Have you ever considered making an art book?
I have! But I don’t think I currently have enough...original illustrations for one LOL? Not that an art book has to be all original work but if I were putting fanart in an art book...at that point I’d just make a fanzine. I’m making more original work lately though so maybe this year....? Who knows. For now, I do have a sketchbook up on gumroad. Hoping to do one of those next year too.
Any tips for keeping background drawings from getting super stiff, especially since things like interiors have a lot of straight lines?
This is a really interesting ask. Really great question that I don’t think gets asked enough - forgive me if I get a bit art school here but I drew up some examples.
First I think we have to investigate the assumption that straight lines make things stiff. That seems true on an instinctual level and certainly proves to be true very often But I don’t think its actually the straight lines themselves but the sort of arrangements and compositions they tend to dictate. Take this for instance.
Tumblr media
pretty big difference, right? there’s a couple things that make a composition feel stiff and one of the most significant is lines that are perpendicular and parallel to the frame. it feels locked in and solid, like bricks. but the moment you shift these angles even a little the composition instantly becomes more dynamic because our innate senses of weight, gravity, and directionality can sense movement.
But it’s not just diagonals let’s take this one step further
Tumblr media
when lines meet and terminate together those tangents can flatten and lock space so the best way to solve this is with overlap and complete intersection, forms continuing past or behind each other feel more layered and less like a flat mosaic... again, even in the simplest line drawings. So how do we apply this to a background?
Tumblr media
ok I drew this really fast so its potentially not the best example but I think the idea is there. This space isn’t even particularly deep, it’s basically a room, a doorway, and a hallway behind it, and we’re not seeing that much of any of those things LOL. but when you draw an environmental object like a doorway in a way that lines up with the perpendicular and parallel lines of the canvas you’re automatically flattening it and making it look rigid.
and when you create tangents with objects and characters you flatten the space around them and make it difficult to tell what is actually in front or behind or if they’re on the same plane.
GOD I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE. Anyways. avoid those things and you’ll instantly have less stiff bgs no matter what kind of bg you’re depicting.
I wanna mention however that this isn’t to say a stiff bg with flat space doesn’t have its purposes.
Tumblr media
sometimes you want to create parallels and tangents. it can make characters feel closed in, trapped, regimented, part of a routine, etc. it’s also great for making a composition look ornamental (especially combined with symmetry).
Tumblr media
directors like wes anderson can even use these compositional elements to make images feel uncanny or harrowing! its very versatile. I think the important thing is to just be aware of when you are making something rigid and when that’s the last thing you want to do. conscious choices.

Can you speak Tagalog?
@lemuelzero101 I can! BUT NOT VERY WELL LOL ;;; both my parents are from Visayas! but they met and had me in the states lol so I’m pretty American born and raised. We go back to visit family on occasion but not regularly. My tagalog is mostly absorbed from listening to relatives at parties lol and my parents speak bisaya at home so I’m marginally better at that. Sorry to any filipinos out there hoping I’d be better educated, I’m like a little baby...
I do love meeting and talking to other filipinos online though, I grew up in an area that was relatively diverse but the asian population was small and the filipino population basically non-existent. I was like one of maybe 2 filipino kids in my highschool of 2000.
Apart from infinity train what shows are you watching now? Have you seen jujitsu kaisen?
Man this is gonna sound so boring but I haven’t watched a lot of tv lately.  It’s not really part of my daily routine. Let’s see... I was sort of watching Amphibia, Craig of the Creek, and the new Digimon Adventure 2020 but I keep falling off watching those for one reason or another. Also there’s a lot of episodes, it doesn’t feel like something I can just binge and be done with.
The last thing I binged was Succession. I want that show and Euphoria back so bad, when I’m done forcing all my friends to watch Infinity Train im cancelling my HBO subscription until Succession and Euphoria return so they know exactly what I’m on their list for LOL.
I have not watched jujitsu kaisen but I’ve kept up with some of the sakuga news (I keep up with anime industry news and production info like x5 the amt i keep up with actual anime) for it and their compositing/editing looks dope. I’ve read the manga actually LOL or at least part of the beginning. I wasn’t super keen on the whole finger eating thing. Also to be honest I kinda feel like its the new Bleach and I never particularly cared about Bleach. Characters look nice enough tho. I wholeheartedly support jjk fans.
Tumblr media
Thank you! Thank you @keznodzieja! <3
And thank you anons who don’t watch infinity train LOL...it’s always nice to hear when people enjoy my fanart despite not knowing the source material because it lifts a little bit of the “oh god am I being annoying???” fear off my chest. But also I think you should watch infinity train because it’s really good I have no reservations recommending it.
