there is something where. hm. like yes, tim can be condescending towards steph, he was written by dixon, it's inevitable. but also since, for a very long time, he was the only one supporting steph's decision to be a vigilante & the only one giving her any sort of attempt at formal training, tim is also the one who tends to get held accountable for her by the adults in their lives when she does mess up, or acts reckless, or makes a mistake. because the fault is considered to lie with his failure to teach her properly, so even if it shouldn't be tim's fault, because it's the fault of all the adults who are refusing to take any sort of responsibility, her behavior does end up reflecting on tim.

so you end up with this thing where to steph: her and tim are equals in a relationship. they are similar aged vigilates & the disparity in their training and experience isn't that important. because she's trying and working really hard & her methods do end up getting the result she desires/end up working in some way, shape, or form, so she's doing good enough to be on equal footing with tim wrt this whole vigilante thing. after all, they're both kids! there's no real difference between them except tim gets a little more training than her. and she's not wrong in that if an adult were to actually officially sanction her & train her she would be on more equal footing with tim as far as they're just two kids who are choosing to be vigilantes.

where to tim he's operating with the knowledge that that their relationship is one thing, but their jobs as vigilantes is a completely separate thing. and them being equal vigilantes is really not considered the case to any other active gotham vigilante. experiencewise, before steph even showed up on the scene, tim had had at least his six months of dedicated training with batman & occasional training with nightwing. he had also had his weeks of dedicated daily training in paris with the rahul lama & then his speed training with lady shiva. he does have probably close to at least 8-9 months of training and experience and working as robin on steph at her first appearance. he's also at a point where he is considered by the adults around him to be trained & skilled enough to be able to train jean-paul valley at that point. this disparity only worsens during the time before they start dating where tim finishes his training in paris with the rahul lama along with getting even more ongoing specialized training from batman & nightwing and steph...continues to be self taught. so the adults around them have expectations for tim that they don't necessarily have for steph, and since tim is the one training her & the expectations for tim at this point are that he's an autonomous, skilled vigilante in his own right (and has been since he was left in charge of azbats), if steph does mess up & tim is the one choosing to sanction & train her, then her mistakes & recklessness becomes tim's fault for not training her properly. although in a perfect world, she wouldn't be his responsibility in this way, that's just how everyone (batman, nightwing, the birds of prey) views it. & like. as someone who takes students at her job. it's not entirely wrong that while a mistake made by a student is on the student & it's also very much considered ultimately the fault of the instructor for failing to recognize that the student wasn't ready or skilled enough for something that they made a mistake, because as the more experienced professional, it's on you to recognize the limitations of the student & supervise/guide them accordingly. which tim is in the position of everyone feeling that steph is his responsibility to manage, because he's often the only one who thinks she should be given a chance & is trying to give her a chance.

it's an inherent power imbalance, formed the the fact that tim is the only one willing to instruct her for a long time, sanctioned & reinforced by the adults around them.

#like yes tim is condescending at points #but also she does make mistakes and when she does #the adults tend to consider that tim is the one they feel is in charge of her #ergo it's on tim for failing to control her. which is a heavy expectation & not one you should be casting into a relationship #and there's another thread there where steph doesn't necessarily care as much about reputation or perceptions #whereas tim is a little more cautious regarding you can't just say you're sanctioned and then mess up #because that reflects poorly on the brand #and he's probably a little overcautious but you know i don't think he's entirely wrong #in that the people's ability to trust the symbol comes from competence & the assurance that they won't mess up so uh

I try to generally be constructive and engaged with the show I love on here, so on this day, I’ll just say that one of the most thematically important aspects for me from the original ATLA is Aang’s emotional core of real shame for running away when he was hurt by the monk’s decision to send him away. People who feel the kind of deep-seated shame that Aang feels from this decision can understand how that kind of all-encompassing shame is not built around a simple failure or a lie they tell themselves; it’s constructed from real misbehaviors and transgressions of their own sense of ethics—lashing out, telling lies, attempting to hurt others intentionally—that then have consequences (abuses, abandonments, or deaths) which seem to far exceed their expectations or even basic logic.

The combination of the misbehavior with exaggerated existential punishments (along with a lack of support and amend-making in the immediate wake of the events) is what transforms a sense of guilt (I fucked up) into shame (I am a forever fuck-up). Then shame, that sense of being a secret monster ‘no matter what I do or how good everyone thinks I am,’ invites all the avoidance strategies (Aang puts on big smiles, makes lots of jokes, constantly tries to make everyone happy, hops from town to town without building deeper connections). One doesn’t want to acknowledge one’s true feelings or let others in to see those feelings and experiences because it’s too painful to face the grief at the same time that you have to look at yourself for being responsible—even when you recognize it wasn’t totally your fault. It’s just that if you had just been good, less emotional, less human, then maybe the world wouldn’t be so messed up. Of course, in a zen view of things, the world will always be messed up in the same way it will always be beautiful. These are constant facts that always coexist in balance, and this is the truth that Aang learns and that undergirds the whole series.

So I always loved that Aang ran away. It was his sin and his salvation. And it becomes this constant tension for the series—he gets hurt in Bato of the Water Tribe and starts to run away from Katara and Sokka, he runs away to the Guru in the Crossroads of Destiny and his best friend is attacked, he and the gaang retreat after the Day of the Black Sun failure, he runs away to meditation in Sozin’s Comet when everyone wants him preparing for war. Aang’s reluctance to be a hero and the attachments and petulance for which he gets criticized are what metamorphasize to become his most noble attributes. They allow him to empathize with others shame and, ultimately, wield the kind of compassion that can deconstruct the power and perfectionism of imperialism.

So yes, Aang ran away from his temple 100 years ago. It wasn’t the mentally healthy choice. It wasn’t the ethical choice. It wasn’t the wise choice. It was human and emotional and shameful and real. Aang is a better character for it. ATLA is a better show because of it. And we are better people when we understand these kind of tragic emotional experiences that people are trying so hard to grow through.

Thank you so much for your thorough response. I'm not always good at following production companies. Please ignore this if I'm overstepping, I've already asked for a lot of your time and research, but other than 9naa are there other companies you boycott because of how they treat actors? I know there were some issues with 2moons and I know there were some issues for Saint, though those were long before my time in the fandom.

That's completely understandable. There's so many companies now that do BL - some of them aren't even primarily into entertainment (a skincare company did The Promise, and I think there's at least one car dealership delving into BL things now too, while other companies are purely for investment and why would you even follow those if they're only about money?).

I'm trying to stay up-to-date because I'm interested in the industry side of things but I probably missed a lot of stuff as well.

Here's what I know for sure:

Motive Village

Motive Village did 2Moons. Then they did 2Moons2 with the same characters (and story!) but all different actors. THEN they did 2Moons: The Ambassador with (some of) the same characters (and story) and different actors again.

Why did they do that? Probably because they're so bad at managing their actors that they're all collectively running away as soon as possible. But that's not even the worst part. One of the actors from 2Moons2, Din Teerapat (then known as Earth Teerapat), was actively excluded and blocked from all promotion while being completely trapped in his contract. Other actors weren't paid and were badly mismanaged. Then there's very serious allegations that Din might have been (I'm phrasing this as carefully as possible) harrassed by one of MV's higher-ups. Din never spoke about it and has since decided to move on.

Aam Anusorn, who directed 2Moons2 (and isn't related to MV in any way) has spoken up about this, and his series Call It What You Want is supposedly based on some of what happened.

Other actors who "escaped" MV include Bas Suradej, Copter Panuwat, Kimmon Warudom (who went on to sign with Star Hunter for a while and did the very delightful Gen Y which is basically 2Moons fanfiction), Tae Darvid & Tee Thanapon (who did Triage), Boun Noppanut (who was never with MV but wasn't paid for his guest role in 2Moons), Joong Archen, Pavel Naret, Benjamin Brasier & Dome Woranart. The latest escapee seems to be Park Anandatej who will be in Monster next Door.

Benjamin Brasier and Dome Woranart seem to be back to working with Motive Village recently and I'm honestly a bit ?? ??? about it.

Y.Entertainment

Y.Ent did Unforgotten Night and For Him the Series. Recently, the leads of For Him, Tor Atagorn and Dew Nitikorn (along with Yoon Phusanu who starred in Unforgotten Night and had a cut guest role in For Him), have come forward saying that they were never paid for their work in For Him. Additionally, Tor has opened up about being continuously harrassed and stalked by someone on and off set during filming. It affected him so badly that he is now in therapy and on medication for depression and anxiety.

Just yesterday Yoon Phusanu held a press conference because he still hasn't been paid. He's one of the few actors who actually have the means to hire lawyers and go against his company. His lawyer has stated that not many young actors in Thai BL can afford to do the same.

9NAA

9NAA did Check Out, Venus in the Sky and, most recently, Kiseki Chapter 2. You know about 9NAA already but for everyone else reading this and wanting to know what's going on with them, here's a short summary.

Here's some other companies involved in Thai BL who have done some mildly questionable things:

Maximon who have since rebranded as Harikarn (with another company now named Maximon that might also have been emerged from the original Maximon... it's complicated) might have not paid their actors for Chains of Heart until the series had long finished airing. Haii Sarunsathorn and Boom Raweewit, the leads, made some very carefully worded joke tweets about it - which kind of makes you go hmmmm. There was also a freelancer who spoke up about not getting paid for his art, but nothing more ever came of it. Both Maximon and Harikarn have since ramped up production again - with some of the same actors - so I'm not especially concerned for the moment.

Well.Thailand recently annouced a bunch of new BLs and then promptly went bancrupt. One of their former producers immediately picked up the slack and founded EntSync in order to take over all projects and talent. They've already held the blessing ceremony for Black Forest and everything seems to be back to normal for the moment except for Born to be Y the series which should have aired this month but has since been indefinitely postponed.

Fix Entertainment is behind The Whisperer and is holding the series' final episode hostage because apparently a planned fanmeeting didn't sell enough tickets so they seem to have run out of funds. This is very ?? ???

Studio on Fire recently announced that one of the leads of their upcoming series Live in Love will be replaced, citing creative differences and "different work attitudes" (hate that phrase yet?) as the reason. Weirdly enough, said lead (Non Ratchanon) is from another company and was part of an acting pair with their own actor Hearth Chindanai. Hmmmmmm.*

*This kind of reminds me of what happened with Saint Suppapong during and after Love By Chance when he was basically almost bullied out of the industry because he wasn't with the same company as all of the other actors.

As I said, there's probably more but I didn't include actor scandals, unfounded rumours or stuff that has already been resolved.

Hey everyone, long time no see! Apologies for the months of silence - but I’m back now! I needed to take a much needed step back from HOCO and focus on some other projects of mine (as well as play a ungodly amount of BG3 hehe).

On my break, I also decided to kinda tear down HOCO and rebuild it from the ground up. I wasn’t really pleased with how the story was going and I think that really contributed to the burnout I felt with the project. I still would like to include the premise of the various life stages, but may go about it in a different way than I had initially planned - things to think about more I suppose!

Esteban jolt awaken by the call ringtone he had set up especificaly for Y/N, it was 4 a.m and she had gone out to town with her girl friends. He knew nothing entirely good could be up if she was calling him, as he grabbed his phone, he just hoped it wasn’t the worst case scenario running through his sleepy brain “hello?” he cleared the sleep from his throat “Y/N/N baby, everything okay?”.

“Mmhmm, everything’s fine teddybear” she slurred through the phone as Kuku sighed on the other end of the line knowing she was quite drunk if she was calling him that petname, “can you pleeassseee come pick me up?” she pouted to the phone even if the older one couldn’t see it. Esteban hummed in agreement already halfway dressed.

“Stay right there, I’ll be over in 5 minutes love” he hung up and out the door he went walking to the car as he fixed his t-shirt and drove over to the club Y/N had gone out to. When he got there he pulled up and got out of the car walking towards his girlfriend who was resting against a wall.

“You came baby!!” she giggled and wrapped her arms tightly around the taller man’s neck kissing him shortly. Esteban chuckled at the state his girlfriend was in and pulled away gently placing his hands on her waist.

“of course I did babygirl, you call, I come” he kissed her forehead wrapping his arm around her waist protectively walking her over to the car listening to her ramble on about her night and looking over at her “I think we’re gonna get you a cup of coffee and a glass of water once we get home, you’ve had some to drink, haven’t you?” Y/N nodded giggling and looking up at the gorgeous man’s eyes slightly closed as he helped the brunette in the car.

When they got home and Kuku helped her out of the car she had taken her shoes off already “owe, the gravel hurts” she whined pouting, her demeanor always getting whiny when she drank- which Esteban actually found adorable- so as soon as those words got out of his lady’s lips she swooped her up in his arms and placed a short, loving kiss on her lips.

“And we wouldn’t want the princess’s feet to get hurt now, would we?” he said quietly to her ear as she shook her head biting her lip gently- she always found it so sexy when Esteban got all caring and protective of her, even if she was a tad drunk she could feel herself getting turned on by this gorgeous man she called her own- He looked at her and chuckled softly when he realised she was staring at him as he walked them in the house “are you trying to memorize every feature of mine love? you’re staring” placing a small kiss on the tip of her nose he placed her down on the couch as she bit her lip “now, stay here while I get you some water and coffee alright?” she nodded in agreement and sat there, the bodycon dress she had worn out scrunching up a bit around her thighs. He took a quick glance down her girlfriend’s body before walking over to the kitchen.

Y/N sat back on the couch, legs stretched out and crossed in front of her as she watched him move around in the kitchen love and lust mixing in her eyes as she did- did he suddenly get sexier than usual? or is this just the alcohol in her veins and the love in her heart talking?- no matter what it was, she knew one thing, she loved that tall skinny man with every inch of her body. When he felt his girlfriend’s eyes glued to his back he turned around drinks in hand just as she looked away feeling as if she had gotten caught doing something she shouldn’t be doing. “Where you staring babygirl?” he said in a soft teasing tone, the length of her legs under that short dress that she wore so well not going unnoticed by the man while he handed the coffee over to Y/N.

She bit her lip gently taking the mug “thanks….no…maybe” she blushed and took a sip of the hot, bitter beverage and sight feeling it warm up her insides, or maybe that was just from being cared on like this by Esteban. After the coffee was gone, she drank some water and smiled “already feeling a bit better” she said, still clearly under the influence of the drinks, but a little more put together and definitely feeling a little mischievous she placed a soft kiss on the corner of her boyfriend’s lips and got up, making sure to hold onto his thigh to get up. Esteban looked up at her back as she walked past him, his eyes already darker than before as he kept his eyes glued to her while she made her way up the stairs to their bedroom.

Y/N smirked, feeling the older guy’s stare glued to her ass as she walked, knowing full well a few things, one, Esteban loved that dress on her- he had even said so as she got ready earlier- two her holding onto his thigh could send him spiraling, and three she was determined to tease the living hell out of that poor man, as she walked into the bedroom they shared, she picked up her favorite shirt from him and walked to the bathroom to get ready for bed, she took the dress and underwear off and put on the shirt, buttoning up just enough buttons to have it close at the right places, as she retouched her lipstick she could hear kuku’s footsteps come into the room and then into bed settling himself to go back to sleep, assuming she wouldn’t be in the mood right now, after all it was, almost 5:30 in the morning, so when he saw her walk out of the bathroom in just his shirt he couldn’t help but smirk as he sat up on the bed. “What are you doing wearing that shirt baby?” he said lowly, not even trying to hide the lust in his voice or his stare.

She made her way to the bed smiling innocently “oh, I can totally take it off if you want…”she said cutely aiming for the buttons as she sat right across his lap, one leg on either side of his body. He quickly stopped her and shook his head, “oh no baby girl, leave that on for me” he said quietly as he leaned in to leave a trail of wet kisses from her lips down her jaw and making his way to the spot below her ear where he gently nibbed at her skin, eliciting a quiet breathy moan from Y/N’s lips at the same time as his hands ran slowly up her thighs, only to find out she was wearing only his shirt he moved his head back eyebrow quirked “oh, that’s how you wanna play it tonight baby?” he growled quietly holding her waist and in one swift motion leaving her trapped against the mattress holding her body there with his.

Esteban kissed Y/N quickly but full of passion an neediness before moving himself down between his girlfriend’s thighs gently pushing her knees apart as he locked eyes with her slowly kissing and nipping up her inner thighs. Y/N’s hands found their place in his hair, racking her fingers through it encouraging him to move a bit faster, even tho she knew he would take his time, eating her out always being his favorite part. He loved the sounds he could coax from the lady’s mouth just by using his. As he looked up through his lashes at her, he took his tongue to her clit savoring it as if it were the best ice cream on the hottest summer day. “Babe” she moaned whining for more, that simple touch not being even nearly enough to calm her ache for him.

“Hmm?” he hummed not moving away from his task sending a delicious wave of vibrating electricity through Y/N’s body causing it to jerk forward seeking more of his touch which he used to slide one of his long fingers inside of her accompassing it to the rhythm of his tongue still lapping at her sensitive nub. He kept moving, taking his clues and cues from the exquisit moans and whimpers that escaped Y/N’s lips as he picked up his pace sliding a second finger in before curling them to graze that sweet little spot inside her that he knew drove her absolutely insane.

“Fuck Esteban!” she moaned louder as she could feel the tension building inside her lower stomach with each one of his fingers thrusts trying to move against him in the same way “babe… I’m so…I’m gonna… fuck it feels so good” she muttered out in incoherent phrases as her brain grew foggier with lust.

Surely, soon enough, Y/N bucked her hips forward moaning and tugging kuku’s hair as she reached her high, Esteban helping her ride it out before slowly pulling away and moving up to kiss her, slow and tender, full of love just as her eyes fluttered closed, prisoner to the mixture of pleasure and sleep. He held the love of his life closer and covered themselves up with the bedsheets, all that mattered to him, was seeing her satisfied, he kissed her head and settled down Y/N already half asleep in her boyfriend’s arms after being loved well into the morning light.
