I Will Rescue You
Title and story inspired the song “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle.
Summary: The team solves a case, and Aurora learns to open up.
Warnings: Mentions of kidnapping, gun and knife usage, and attempted suicide (from the perpetrator, not heavily detailed.)
Word Count: 3.4k
A/N: I just want to thank everyone for all the new support recently, it means the world to me that people are reading my story!
I’m so excited for the next upcoming chapters! We will get Bradley soon I promise! The next chapter though, is going to shift the story to what I’ve been waiting for! And probably what everyone else has been waiting for! 🫣Please listen to the song if you can! I love having songs for each chapter. This one definitely has a double meaning, where not only do they rescue someone, but Aurora gets rescued by her found family. 💛
Shoutout to my beta reader, and editor @reginleight!
On that note! Please enjoy the chapter. As always, comments, reblogs, and feedback are appreciated! 🤭

“Okay, what do you have for me?” Gibbs asks.
It was the next day and Aurora had come back to the office, with a clearer mindset, and the determination to crack this case..
Tony, Ziva, McGee, and Aurora were researching anything and everything they could on the petty officer and who would have motive to kill him.
“Girlfriend checks out. She was at a job conference with coworkers able to back up her story,” McGee was the first to reply.
“Same with Lieutenant Seresin,” Aurora follows up. “We were able to eliminate him as a suspect due to the DNA Abby had found under the victim’s fingernails when he was defending himself, as well as on a metal pipe aka the murder weapon. And he was seen by a few officers on board that he was passed out in his bunk.”
“Anyone else, or are you just telling me that we have run out of suspects?” Gibbs sighs, his frustration beginning to show.
“I think I found something,” Tony reports, quickly setting down his phone.
“An ex-girlfriend of the petty officer. Her name is-”
“Emma Reynolds. Made several calls to our petty officer, including the night that he was killed,” Ziva interrupts Tony.
“Made several voicemails threatening him too,” Tony interjects after Ziva interrupted him.
“Why didn’t we find that in our initial search?” Gibbs asks.
“They were erased. We just got the cell phone restored due to the information Abby got.” Ziva shrugs.
“What does she say in the voicemail?” McGee asks.
“Listen for yourself,” Dinozzo replies, putting the voicemail on speaker for the group to listen..
“You will regret ever dumping me. You get to go off and date a new girl while getting the satisfaction of being in a happy relationship? No way! You’re going to pay for what you did. Including whoever told you about me cheating on you!”
“So we have a motive and evidence!” Aurora exclaims.
“Is that enough for a warrant?” McGee quirks a brow in question.
All of a sudden, a phone rings out causing everyone to look toward the source. Aurora.
“Sorry, oh wait, hold on,” Aurora tells them, confused at seeing the caller ID. “It’s Jake.”
“Jake?” Gibbs asks.
“Lieutenant Seresin,” Aurora explains before answering the phone. “Agent Benjamin.”
“Why did you kidnap me?” Jake questions, his voice sounding a bit far away.
“Because you are the only person who knows my identity, and now you’re going to take the blame for Derek’s death!” a female voice yells out.
“NCIS is going to find you, and when they do they’re going to put you in jail” Jake retorts, his voice raising almost matching the woman’s.
“Jake’s been kidnapped by the killer, sounds female,” Aurora examines the call, as she places her phone on speaker. From what she can gather, Jake must have dialed her number so they could find him.
“Fits the ex-girlfriend's motive,” Tony affirms.
“McGee-”
“On it boss,” McGee says, interrupting Gibbs as he starts tracing the phone. While he does that, the team starts gearing up so they could leave as soon as they had the location. Aurora sets the phone down and mutes her side of the call. She makes sure to grab her knife, gun, and badge.
“Alright, got it. Looks like an abandoned house 15 minutes from here.”
“Let’s go!” Gibbs shouts as the team runs out, hoping to save Jake on time and capture the killer.
“David, secure the perimeter. Artemis, you and I will go in from the front. Dinozzo, McGee, side entrance and back got it?”
“Got it boss.” They all reply.
Everyone moved into position, as Aurora adjusted her vest, making sure her gun was loaded. On Gibb’s signal, she kicks down the door to the abandoned house.
“Freeze! NCIS!” she yells out, aiming her gun inside the house.
Jake Seresin was tied up to a chair, eyes a bit glazed over, while a woman holding a gun to his head stood behind him. Remembering the picture and profile she’d seen, Aurora instantly recognized her as the ex-girlfriend, Emma Reynolds.
Aurora’s eyes flashed from when she was tied up and tortured, before the memory could overtake her, she shook it off and fought against it. She had to get Jake safely out of here, she needed to do her job.
Noting Emma’s facial expression, it appeared she did not expect the NCIS team to find her so soon.
“You come any closer, and Lieutenant Seresin here gets a bullet in his brain!” the woman threatens.
“Emma, you don’t want to do that!” Gibbs shouts at her.
“Emma, just put the gun down-” Aurora yells before she is interrupted by Emma.
“NO! I will not go to jail for something that was justified! Derek deserved to die! He got what was coming to him!”
“Emma, calm down. Here I’ll put my gun away, just put yours down too.” Aurora slowly began to holster her gun. Gibbs, standing next to Aurora, kept his gun trained on the woman in case she decides to change her target.
 Seeing as she wasn’t going to make a move in doing so just yet, Gibbs spoke up. “Just let Lieutenant Seresin go. He’s an innocent bystander-”
“No, he isn’t! If it wasn’t for him, Derek wouldn’t have broken up with me!”
“You cheated on him with another officer on the ship! He thought it was me! I had to tell him!” Jake yells out to defend himself.
“And y-you were going to take the b-blame for his death,” Emma stamers.
“Emma, it’s over. Put down the gun!” Aurora shouts at the woman. There was a bang, and soon Ziva, McGee, and Tony surrounds her, guns in hand.
Emma grew frustrated. “I’m not going to jail!”
“There is no other way, Emma!” Aurora tells her.
Slowly, Emma removes the gun from Jake’s head.
Aurora sighs in relief until seeing Emma then turn the gun to her own head. Just as she’s about to pull the trigger, Aurora acts quickly, whipping out her knife and expertly throwing it at the gun, knocking it clean from Emma’s hand.
Left defenseless and with no more cards up her sleeve, Ziva takes her down just as Tony retrieves the knocked gun. Gibbs and Aurora let out a breath that they were holding before Aurora helps McGee untie Jake from the chair. She grabs her knife that was left impaled into the wall before kneeling down beside Jake, scanning over his body for any injuries. A small scratch on his cheek, and a small bump on his head, but other than that he seemed unharmed.
“You came,” Jake smiles at Aurora.
“You called,” she replied, smirking at him. She uses her knife to help cut away any remaining rope. McGee then unties the last of the rope leaving Jake no longer bound to the chair. He stands up and sways a little. Aurora quickly puts her knife in her holster and stands to support him before he could fall.
“Ok Hangman, time to get you checked by the paramedics,” she chuckles at Jake’s actions, leading  him outside to where local LEOs and paramedics were on the scene.
Gibbs was talking to a local LEO while Aurora helped Jake sit at the back of the ambulance, with Tony, Ziva, and McGee trailing behind them.
“Thank you. All of you,” Jake says, giving all of them a sincere look of gratitude.
“It’s our job, we’re just glad you’re alright,” Ziva says, speaking for the team. Her eyes just so happen to wander to Aurora, suspecting there might be something going on between the two in front of her.
“I’m really glad you’re okay, Jake,” Aurora smiles.
The paramedics soon come up saying that they will need to bring the lieutenant to the hospital for a check up. Before they could leave, Aurora stopped Jake, giving him a concerned look. “Do you want me to come with you?”
“Nah,” shaking his head, Jake gave her a confident grin. “I’ll just get a quick check up and head to NCIS for a statement. I’ll meet you back at the Navy yard, Mitchell?”
She smiles at hearing her last name.
“See ya in a bit then, Hangman.” Jake waves to all of them as he’s loaded into the back of the ambulance, soon disappearing from sight as they leave. Aurora turns around and sees her team looking at her, confused.
“Mitchell?” Ziva asks, confused.
Aurora sighs. “I’ll explain when we get back to the Navy yard.”
“So, wait. Your last name is actually Mitchell?” McGee asks incredulously, trying to wrap his head around the new information. In fact, the whole team was trying to wrap their heads around this one.
Aurora sat down at her desk in the bullpen, while Tony, Ziva, Abby, McGee, and Palmer stood around her.
“Yep,” Aurora confirms as she puts her hand under her chin, trying to gauge her team’s response and facial expressions.
Tony and McGee looked at each other, before they ran to their desks to pull up information. Aurora and Ziva look at each other and roll their eyes as Abby and Palmer chuckle at their antics. McGee then says he found something and puts it up on the bullpen TV screen. On it, showed her dad’s profile.
“Woah, he’s hot.” Abby acknowledges looking at her dad’s official Navy photo.
“Abby!” Aurora laughs at her outburst. Ziva nods approvingly at Abby’s comment, agreeing with her.
“Wait, I have another one too,” Tony says, as he puts another profile up on the screen right next to her dad’s. It was her brother’s.
“Oh, he’s cute too! How are you related to good looking men, Rory?” Abby asks as Aurora chuckles at her antics, choosing not to answer the rhetorical question.
“Your dad is Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell?!” Tony said, not believing it.
Aurora laughs and nods. “And that’s my brother. You both work fast.”
“Wait? What’s a Maverick?” Ziva asks, confused.
“Not a what, a who. Maverick is his call sign. States here Captain Mitchell is a highly decorated captain, a naval aviator graduated from Top Gun in ‘86,” McGee summarized from the profile he found “Has medals and awards, and currently is the pilot in a secret Mach 10 project, called the Darkstar.”
“Callsign?” Ziva’s brows furrow. “What’s a callsign?”
“A nickname each naval aviator has rather than using their actual name,” Aurora explains.
“And then there’s Chief Petty Officer Peyton Benjamin-Mitchell. He’s a naval aviation mechanic, graduated from the Naval Academy, currently deployed on the USS Franklin, with a stop in Japan,” Tony reads from the profile.
“Well that explains the postcard,” Ziva acknowledges.
“Actually half,” Aurora smirks at Ziva and Abby knowing they’ll be wondering what she meant by that.
“Your dad is a legend!” McGee exclaims. “I’ve heard of the Mitchell name from my dad so many times.”
“The Mitchell Legacy,” Aurora sarcastically mumbles.
“Why didn’t you tell us this before? Why are you telling us now?” Ziva asks.
Aurora takes a deep breath and lets it out.
“I didn’t want you all to treat me differently,” Aurora shrugs. “Take you, for example, Ziva. Everyone connects you to your dad who’s the head director of Mossad. They assume things about you and you’ve had to prove them wrong, as well as step up to your position. I just wanted a clean slate, a way to make my own name and not be connected to the Mitchell name,” she explains.
“But why tell us now?” Abby reiterates Ziva’s last question, standing next to the woman.
Aurora looks at all of them and smiles. “Because it was time to come clean to you all. You are also my family, you have been there for me, and I figured it was time to trust you all to know the rest of me.”
Abby finally bursts, throwing her arms around her friend in a big hug, Ziva joining in as well.
“Wait, then how does Lieutenant Seresin know about your last name?” McGee asks.
“Because I know her brother and her boyfriend,” a voice interrupts and they all turn towards it. Jake Seresin stood there, back from the hospital, smirking at them.
“Wait, boyfriend?!” The team yells out, as Aurora rolls her eyes at Jake.
“Best friend.” Aurora corrects, looking at him. “Glad to see you’re doing better.”
“Well, I guess I have you to thank for that,” he confesses.
“McGee, you should probably bring Lieutenant Seresin to the conference room for his statement? Gibbs is probably waiting for him there,” Tony tells McGee, his tone commandeering. McGee rolled his eyes, but didn’t argue.
“Sure, right this way Lieutenant,” McGee says, leading Jake to the stairs up the conference room.
They all watch Jake and McGee disappear going up the stairs before then turning back to Aurora.
“Ok, talk to us about this best friend/boyfriend of yours!” Abby exclaims, excitedly.
“And your brother!” Ziva insists.
Aurora groans but then proceeds to tell them all about Bradley and Peyton.
—
“So, you’re heading out?” Aurora asks Jake. He had just come back down after having to give his statement on the case and went straight to joining Aurora at her desk.
“Yep, the USS Seahawk is bound for departure in a few hours,” Jake replies, as he takes a look at the picture she had pinned on a corkboard behind her.
After she came clean to her team, she started putting pictures of her family that she had hid away in her desk drawer, including the postcard from Bradley and Peyron.
“Wow, what a way to spend time off the ship. Kidnapped, spending most of the time in the Navy Yard,” Aurora sarcastically replies to him.
“I still can’t believe she hid in your car that you were borrowing, hit you on the head, drove the car with you in it, and then dragged you into that abandoned house And you STILL didn’t wake up until she tightened the rope,” Aurora looks at Jake in disbelief.
“Hey, she had a strong arm, and upper body strength!” Jake remarks, tearing his gaze away from the corkboard.
“It’s a good thing she was so focused on kidnapping you, she forgot to take your phone away.”
“I’m just glad your number was the one I pressed, and not like your brother’s,” Jake cringes at the thought.
Aurora nods, because Peyton wouldn’t answer since he’s at sea.
Deep down, she was sad he was leaving. She had really bonded with Jake, and he was one of the reasons why she started opening up to her team.
“At least I finally got to meet THE Artemis. Everyone is going to be so jealous,” Jake teases.
Aurora laughs and smiles at him. “Be safe? I know how you flyboys get when you’re in those fighter jets,” she sassily remarks at him.
“Always am safe,” he winks at her.
She shakes her head. “And, please don’t give Bradley a hard time when you see him. I know you two butt heads a lot of times,” she advises.
“Well, he starts it,” he protests, making her chuckle at his remark.
“And you and Peyton? I won’t say anything.” She winks.
Jake rolls his eyes, looking away. “Nothing is even there.”
“Yet.”
“You be safe too Mitchell,” changing the subject, Jake returns his gaze to her. “Still can’t believe you brought a knife to a gunfight.”
“Hey, that knife saved your life!” They both chuckle. Jake turns to the rest of the team to give them a goodbye and thanks as well. Aurora stands up after he says his last goodbye to Tony, who also weirdly he had bonded with as well.
“Let me walk you to the elevators,” Aurora volunteers. Without any protest from him, they walk to the elevator as Jake hits the button to go down.
“Call me sometime,” Jake tells her as they stand waiting for the elevator.
She chuckles and shakes her head. “Here we go again with the flirting.”
“Hey, what are friends for?” Jake jokes. Once the elevator doors open and Jake’s inside, he gives Aurora one final wave goodbye.
“See you next time, Artemis.”
“See ya around, Hangman.”
“You heading home yet Arty-choke?” Dinozzo asks Aurora, as the team starts packing up for the day.
“That was the worst nickname you’ve ever made up, DiNaggy,” Aurora retorts looking up from what she was writing.
“Hey, I give my best with what’s been given! And DiNaggy isn’t your best either.”
“It is, you nag me a lot. But I am still partial to DiNutsos.”
Tony sticks his tongue out at her in retaliation.
“I still can’t believe your brother’s nickname is Apollo, when we gave you Artemis. What are the odds of that happening?” McGee ponders.
“I still can’t believe you came from a Naval aviation legacy, and still went into a career Navy adjacent,” Tony marvels at Aurora’s background.
“And I still can’t believe you all are still here,” Gibbs snaps as he looks up from his paperwork that he was finishing. “Do you need me to assign more work?”
“Nope!” “No thanks!” Tony and McGee reply, grabbing their bags and saying their goodbyes to everyone before heading out for the elevators..
Shaking her head, Aurora went back to writing, noticing out of the corner of her eye when Ziva approached her desk.
“Hey, wanna go to the bar with Abby and I? I’ll buy the first round,” Ziva offers, trying to convince her friend to go out with them.
“Yeah, can I actually meet you both there? I’m just going to finish up something and make a quick phone call real quick. I can’t stay out too long though. I want to get home to my puppy,” Aurora replies.
Ziva chuckles. “Yeah, sounds good. See you in a bit!” She walks out, headed to the elevators as Aurora goes back to her writing.
A few minutes pass by as she folds the paper, and puts it in an envelope. As she’s about to write on the envelope, she sees Gibbs turn off his desk light, a signal that he’s heading home.
Gibbs stands and turns to Aurora. “You doing alright, kiddo? You did good today.”
She smiles at Gibbs. “I’m doing a lot better, Gibbs. Thank you for today, last night, and for all the days that I’ve been on this team,” she tells him.
Gibbs chuckles, and kisses the top of her head, a fatherly gesture. “We’re always here for you, Artemis. Go home soon, alright?”
“Yes’sir,” Aurora says, giving a mock salute as Gibbs shakes his head before heading out.
Sighing, she puts a hand to her head. No panic attacks today, for that Aurora was grateful. She knew she was going to have to take it a few days at a time. She was going to schedule a therapist that was recommended to her by McGee and she was going to be alright.
Coming out of her thoughts, Aurora went back to the envelope, putting the name and address on it before slipping it into her bag. She was going to mail it out in the morning. Peyton and Bradley would get it hopefully at a speedy pace. She then turns her chair and sees her corkboard, not as bare anymore.
Pictures of her family, Bradley, Goose, Carole, Ice and Sarah were now displayed proudly. She takes a photo into her hands, holding it as if it would help the memory come back to life.  The last picture she had of the trio, taken by her Uncle Goose at the graduation party. Aurora in the middle laughing while Peyton made a funny face and Bradley smiling down at Aurora. The one time she can remember being happy.
She smiles as she puts the photo next to a photo of the NCIS team during one Thanksgiving she had spent with them when she wasn’t able to go home to San Diego that year. She leans back into her chair, biting the inside of her cheek.
Aurora was nervous for this phone call, but she knew it was something she needed to do sooner rather than later. She grabs her phone off her desk and clicks on the number that she had called a few times. Putting the phone to her ear, she waits and listens to the phone ring  until she hears the person answer on the other end.
“Hello?”
Aurora’s eyes started to water at hearing his voice, a voice she had missed and wished she had called more often. She took a deep breath, nervous to come clean to him about everything, her panic attacks, her PTSD. Aurora was scared of his reaction because she knew all he wanted was to protect her. But she was ready to tell him, no more hiding.
“Hi dad.”

bloody hands, hospital kisses

Tumblr media
summary: ziva gets hurt on a case.
warnings: bullet wound, smooching, so much uncanoness smfh, blood, passing out, violence, shy ziva omg, LONG ASS ONESHOT, angst to fluff ur welcome 🤧❤
reader's pronouns: she/her
"you take left, i got right." y/n murmured, panting as she quickly reloaded her gun. ziva nodded, slowly moving to a position that would make it easier for her to weave past the insane amount of crate between her and their perp.
pivoting her head, ziva made eye contact with y/n and when they both nodded, the bolted away from each other in the direction of the murderer of petty officer Kayleigh James. bullets quickly followed in the agents' trail, but the two were fast.
now safely sheltered roughly ten and a half feet away from the killer and her 'goons,' as tony likes to call them, the killer, Avon Presley, started to talk.
"i think we all know how this will end up," she started. "you are both severely outnumbered and outgunned. it would be wise to simply give up."
in the moment of silence that followed, ziva foumd y/n eyes already on her. silently communicating through the facial expressions, there was a silent agreement about what would happen next. gibbs and mcgee went dark just before the two entered the warehouse, and there was no sign of tony anywhere.
Avon sighed, the sound resonating. "i really dont want to kill you. you both would be great additions to my little... team." the end word was puncuated with the sound of pride, a disgusting sound.
ziva, still looking at y/n, started the countdown with the nodding of her head, and the raise of her finger.
five.
"if you're waiting for me to explain why I killed that petty officer, i'll tell you."
team gibbs already had Avon's motive.
four.
"she owed me. Kayleigh James owed me money.  she was so in debt-"
three.
"that no matter how much money she made in her life, it wouldn't be enough to pay me back."
two.
"so i arranged for her to be executed, as you already know, and we knew that outcome for tha-"
one.
ziva and y/n stood up and immediately took down bodies left and right, dodging between stacks of crates. in her peripherals, y/n saw Avon yank a gun from one of her goons and flee.
two minutes and many body thuds later, y/n and ziva reload and make their way cautiously to find Avon.
opening the steel door, the agents slink out, looking around. there are no more hiding places.
Avon, in all her glory, is standing with ger gun poised in her hands, ready to shoot if necessary.
"put the gun down, Presley!" y/n calls over the rushing wind.
"let me go!" she responds, desperation seeping into her voice.
ziva squints at her target, head low, ready to take the shot beside y/n. "you know that we cannot do that."
Avon's eyes gleam. "then i'll make you."
before the last word reaches the air, Avon pulled the trigger twice.
then ziva hits the ground, hard.
Avon starts to make a run for it, but y/n shoot her in the upper body, most likely hitting the heart, knowing her aim.
throwing herself to the ground beside ziva, y/n gasps. blood bloomed from ziva's thigh and stomach, somehow puncturing the bulletproof vests gibbs was adamant about wearing.
ripping ziva' jacket and vest off, she pulled the short up just enough to see the wound.
"gibbs," ziva wheezes.
"i know, zee, i know," y/n says, frantically pressing into ziva's stomach wound, turning to tend to her thigh.
with her bloody hand, ziva struggles for her phone. with little grip, she presses it into y/n's hand.
pressing gibbs's number, she presses the phone into her ear with her shoulder and takes her pocket knife to cut into ziva' pants in the area around the gunshot
gibbs doesn't answer. cussing quietly, y/n looks for mcgee's number.
he luckily picks up on the first ring.
"where are you?" he asks immediately.
"We're still by the warehouse, ziva's shot, get here. now."
"okay. stay on the line, we're tracking you and sending tony. he'll be there in-" mcgoo continues.
"timmy i need to talk to gibbs." y/n commands when she sees ziva start to writhe on the ground after pressing on her thigh.
"y/n what the status?" gibbs.
"status is, boss, if tony doesn't pull up quickly, ill beat his ass. david's bleeding out, and i'm not sure i can dig out this bullet." y/n snaps.
"get- get it out." ziva gasps, bloody hand grasping y/n's arm.
"hold on ziver. y/n has ya." gibbs says in the most sympathetic tone the team has ever heard.
"y/n, put the phone down and get those bullets."
"copy that." in a rush, y/n puts the phone down next to ziva, and looks straight into her eyes.
"this is gonna hurt like a bitch, darlin'. bite this." y/n slips the arm of ziva's discarded jacket into her mouth. "i'm gonna get the bullet in your thigh."
slipping her pointer finger and thumb into the bullet hole, ziva let out a muffled scream. closing her eyes and screaming again, she claws at the ground while y/n closes her fingers around the bullet and slowly pulls it out of ziva's body. gagging at the amount of blood pooling on the ground, y/n tosses the bullet on the ground.
"hey hey hey, breathe. you're doing great. breathe, ziva." y/n soothes as best she can.
y/n almost thinks she hears a car screech, but it's too faint to tell for sure.
"l/n." y/n hears from the phone.
bringing it up to her ear, y/n hears mcgee telling her tony should be there soon, if not now.
"tony!" y/n screams, ziva below her was probably delirious with the amount of blood she was loosing, from her stomach and her thigh. "tony please hurry up!" y/n called again. y/n did not like ziva looking like this; pale and bloody and falling unconscious.
all at once, y/n felt tears in her eyes, and she cursed herself for crying when ziva was in more physical pain than y/n was.
left hand pressed against ziva's bloody thigh, she grabbed ziva's hand. "c'mon darlin', you gotta stay awake for me, okay? gotta wait for the ambulance timmy called." or rather the ambulance she hope tim called.
the sound of footsteps broke her out of her train of thought. tony, gibbs, and mcgee all rushed up with a flurry of questions, statements, and arguments.
gibbs eased y/n away from ziva's lower body and led her away, though her eyes were still trained on ziva.
"y/n."
she looked up. "i didn't- boss i-"
"tim saw the footage," gibbs explained, pointing to the security camera, positioned in just the right angle to see everything that went down withing the past ten minutes. "ambulance is on it's way. you did good l/n." gibbs praised, scanning y/n. she had turned to look back at limp-bodied ziva.
gibbs pulled her side into him, and she finally cried. her bloody hands wrapped around gibbs as the reality of what happened hit her. "you did good." he repeated into her ear. "but you really need to tell ziva you're in love with her."
y/n pulled away and looked at her annoyingly red hands. "i dont know what-"
"yes you do." gibbs said with a side eye and a smirk. "lets go." he led y/n to the frint of the warehouse, into the ambulance that arrived, and to the hospital.
ziva was in surgery for hours. after hour one ticked by, y/n was taken home by gibbs to get cleaned up, fed, and then drove her back to the hospital.
"gibbs what do you mean that i'm in love with ziva?" y/n asked quietly.
"you know what that means."
"no i don't." y/n answered.
"i mean, l/n, that she likes you, and you like her." gibbs stated, like everyone knew.
y/n's brows furrowed. "she... likes me? really? are you sure, boss?"
gibbs chuckled, a sound only a select few heard. "yeah, y/n, i'm sure. it physically hurts us to watch you guys frolick around each other. so if i dont see any undying love confessions i'm going to fire you both."
y/n gaped at her boss. "i've never heard you talk that much." gibbs looked at her with a glare as he pulled into the parking lot. "but," she continued, "what do you mean 'us'?"
gibbs stopped the truck, and blinked. "abs, mcgee, dinozzo, ducky, hell even leon said something to me. point is, make a move."
y/n turned the words over in her mind as they entered the building. settling back down in the chair beside ducky and abby, y/n rested her head on abby's shoulder and closed her eyes.
two hours later y/n was woken by ducky. "she's awake my dear."
walking through the hallway to ziva's room was one of the longest hallways y/n ever walked through.
the team crowded into the room, completely disregarding the stares of others.
ziva turned jer head and made eye contact with y/n and she smiled weakly. y/n quickly took the chair right beside ziva.
when everyone got their affections over with, y/n was watching ziva talk to ducky about tips on healing.
"lunch, anyone?" tony asked abruptly. catching gibbs' eye, he motions with his head to y/n who was still all heart eyes over ziva. one by one, the entire team minus y/n left to go pick up food.
ziva looked at y/n and smiled a real smile. "hi."
y/n picked up ziva's hand and kissed her knuckles and laced their fingers. "hi ziva." she replied.
ziva looked into y/n's eyes like she was searching for something, anything. an answer maybe, an apology. an apology for scaring the shit out of y/n, and thanking her for saving her life.
"ziva." y/n asked, suddenly looking away.
the mossad agent exhaled. "yes?"
y/n bit her lip. "look, i know that you almsot died in front of me and whatever, but apparently vance thinks we're dating and gibbs said something so i was, y'know, wondering if, at some point, you'd want to go on a date or something?" it all rushed out in an uncalculated ramble that y/n was not proud of.
"i'd love to date you, y/n. i'd absolutely love to." ziva replied instantly.
y/n's heart genuinely felt like it was flying. "really?"
"yes, really."
y/n beamed and stood up and spun around. "holy shit you just made me so happy!" she laughed, making ziva laugh along with her.
when y/n sat down again, smile still on her face, ziva murmured, "my lips hurt... can you kiss them and make them feel better?" she asked shyly.
"don't have to ask darling." y/n ehispered against the beautiful woman as y/n pressed her lips against ziva's. ziva brought her hands up to tangle her fingers in y/n's hair. y/n pressed her hands into the spaces between ziva's head so she didn't topple onto the woman and hurt her.
at some point though, the team came back.
"finally!" tony shouted, causing y/n to fall into ziva's chest, making him laugh.
pecking ziva' neck y/n stood up and smoothed her hair, guiltily with a large smile. ziva turned her back on her team and bit her swollen lips. looking up at y/n, she smiled gently.
"i think we agreed on twenty dollars, tim." ducky said, cheerful as ever, collecting his bet money.
"i personally am not surprised they bet on us." ziva said to y/n.
"neither am i, honestly." y/n replied.
y/n looked over at gibbs. he smiled at her and shook his head.
"well, now that i have my money, i shall go see to making my favorite agents some food." ducky explained with a wink at ziva and y/n both.
"ducky's my ride. bye ziva! i'll be back tomorrow!" abby said excitedly.
"i guess i'll head home too... use protection.'' tony warned, wagging his finger at y/n.
"tony, ziva's in a hospital bed." she laughed, flipping him the bird.
"alright then, lets go tim. we'llbe outside y/n." gibbs said, ushering the crowd out the door.
turning to ziva with a smile, y/n leaned over to press a kiss to her head, but ziva pulled her collar down to kiss her on the lips.
"i'm going to be doing that so much." ziva sighs, eyes fluttering shut.
"i'll be back soon, darling."
"i'll miss you." ziva teased.
rolling her eyes, y/n walked out of the hospital with a wide smile on her face, despite having to sit in the back.

NCIS / X-Files crossover fic I'll never write because the audience is probably just me: #1
Circa 2012. Bill and Tara Scully have been living in the D.C. area for a few years now after Bill was transferred to the Naval station in Norfolk. Their 15 year old son, Matthew, goes missing.
The NCIS Major Case Response Team takes the case, but something about his disappearance is strange. They hit a dead end pretty quickly.
Shortly after, a doctor and her husband show up on NCIS' doorstep demanding to speak to the agents in charge of the case. They meet with the NCIS team and explain that the woman, Scully, is the missing boy's aunt, and that she and her husband are former FBI agents that specialized in the unexplained. They demand to see the evidence.
Blah blah blah, they help them solve the case. But the real fun stuff is the character interactions you get along the way.
DiNozzo and Mulder bonding over a shared appreciation of movies (though DiNozzo will admit that Mulder's taste in movies tends to be a little more... obscure). DiNozzo totally brags that he played basketball for Ohio State.
Scully assisting Dr. Mallard with an autopsy in the course of the investigation, while Mulder observes and bounces criminal profile theories off him and chats about his education in the U.K.
F.B.I. agent Fornell stopping by and commenting something about "those weirdos who worked in the basement."
Somehow, the Lone Gunmen come up in conversation, and McGee nerds out because he totally was subscribed to them in the 90s. Abby blows his mind by saying something like "Oh yeah, I dated Ringo back in 94, haven't I told you that?"
Ziva and Scully both definitely bond over their ridiculous goofball partners, and how irritating and reckless they can be.
...and Mulder and Scully IMMEDIATELY clock the tension between Tony and Ziva. And make it their mission to prevent them from making the same mistakes they did. Oh yeah, this is totally a Tiva getting their act together hypothetical fic.
Tony shares how he rescued Ziva from imprisonment in a terrorist camp in Somalia. He'd thought she was dead. Mulder mentions going to Antarctica to save Scully, and Tony definitely thinks the whole alien story is a little odd but goes along with it anyway lol.
And because Mulder and Scully might have started to have some differences and difficulties, this case (and seeing themselves in this younger partner duo) reminds them what it's all about, and their relationship gets strengthened.
Anyway, I've thought about this a lot cause they're my two favorite shows, but I don't think the overlap of the Tiva fandom with Mulder and Scully is all that large, so this will never happen 😂

Arkham Knight! Jason with a Wayne! Reader, who became an NCIS agent after His ‘Death’
Been watching NCIS on Netflix and it’s become a comfort show. So, naturally, this idea popped into my head.
Warning: Mentions of torture, alcohol, criminal activity, murder and death
(Y/N) is Bruce’s Daughter~
(Y/N) is 23 and Jason is 22

~~~~~~~~~~~
When Gibbs got the call from the GCPD, you knew it was time. After seeing Joker’s dead body get cremated nine months ago while on leave, you knew someone would step up to try and kill your father. With the team’s case of several marines and soldiers, from new to dishonorably discharged, joining a small anonymous cause connecting to deals with Gothams supervillains, you knew it was no coincidence. Despite what Gibbs told you about how he didn’t believe in them…
You had joined the NCIS team after the murder of your boyfriend, Jason Todd, who was tortured for a year and later killed by the Joker. This lead to a huge argument with your father about his ‘no killing’ rule and how he put his mission to protect Gotham over the safety of his loved ones half the time. This led to you leaving behind the Manor and your title of Shadowclaw. You joined Gibbs’ team when you were twenty, thanks to Commissioner Gordon recommending you.
That was three years ago…
You and the rest of the team arrested scumbags and registered felons and took down terrorists. However, you woed the day that Joker would appear on NCIS’s radar. The day he would screw up massively and stray across your path. All so you could finally put him down for good… and you knew Gibbs wasn’t going to stop you… he gave you his blessing, not that you needed it, anyway…
That was the difference between him and your father…
Gibbs wouldn’t hesitate to kill a man who tore families apart… especially considering what happened to his first wife, Shannon and his daughter, Kelly,…
With you and Gibbs heading to Ace Chemicals with Gordon and your father in his cowl, you were planning to enter Scarecrow’s manufacturing den. Ziva was with Cashe at the GCPD office, looking out for stragglers or prisoners of the oncoming war. Dinozzo was helping the police deal with rioters and thugs. McGee was keeping in touch with Oracle and Robin for any developments back at your apartment. Abby and Ducky were down in the Batcave with Alfred, along with all their needed equipment.
You weren’t even halfway across the bridge when a mysterious figure in a militarized helicopter shot at it, reducing it to rubble. He seemed adamant in shooting Batman until he saw you. And even then, something or someone was holding him back. Then, he fled off…
“Friend of yours?”
“Guess we’re gonna find out, Jim…” Gibbs said, holstering his gun.
While Batman grappled his way in the chemical plant, you and Gibbs had to find your own way inside. Once inside, you started freeing trapped workers and taking down militia soldiers. Everything was going good and seemingly according to plan. McGee and Oracle then contact the three of you via your comms.
“Boss, me and Oracle found something.”
“Spill, McGee,” you said over my comm.
“Most of the dealings with Marines and the military stemmed from this new player Scarecrow has on his team. But we do know that he has no prior experience with the Army.”
“Name, Oracle?” Batman asked through his communicator.
“No legal name listed from what me and Agent McGee could find. However, there’s one name that his men agree on: The Arkham Knight…”
McGee then went to add on to Barbara’s statement, “Both myself and Oracle tried to find a match on every database we could think of. Criminal, Most Wanted, Interpol, FBI, even combed through Arkham and Blackgate’s records of offenders. Nothing matches this guy’s description.”
“Arkham Knight? If this guy is close enough to have ‘Arkham’ in his title, even though he wasn’t an inmate, then why go by such a name?”
“Maybe he’s seeking revenge for someone who died in Arkham? Family, maybe?” The junior agent proposed, trying to come up with the best possible motive.
“I’ll help you look into it, Agent McGee.” Barbara replied with confidence.
“Let us know.” You said before cutting your end of the line. You looked at Gibbs and then your father with an expression of faint concern. Looking at each other, one thought was shared among us all…
This was gonna be a long night…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saving the missing workers was easier said than done. A few were found dead while others were being guarded by the Knight’s men. You knew that these men wouldn’t back down, but you put a bullet in their kneecaps to keep them down. You don’t want to kill them if you don’t have to.
The last worker was located near a large window to the outside. As you all slowly approached the area, your father spoke, “Was it really necessary to shoot those men?”
“At least be happy that they aren’t dead, Dad.” You snipped, reloading your glock.
“There’s a reason why I had that rule in place.” He uttered, voice low and dangerous.
“Your rule, not mine. And if I remember correctly, I didn’t consent to having to follow it. Neither did Jason. Nor any of the others. They just followed your lead.” You hissed, readying your glock for any incoming surprise attacks.
“I didn’t want you two to become killers. Not you or anyone I’ve taken in.”
“Sometimes, killing a dirtbag who isn’t scared of you and has more red on his hands than yourself doesn’t make you a killer. It can make you an avenger. Rule fifty-one…”
“Rule Fifty-One?” Bruce asked quizzically.
“Sometimes, you’re wrong… I taught her that.” Gibbs came in, answering your father. Batman grew stoically silent after that response for your boss.
As you entered the room of the last prisoner, Both you and Gibbs held your guns at the ready. After a while and check if the coast was clear, Gibbs went over and freed the trapped worker. No sooner was the man out of his cuffs that militia soldiers came barging in. Gibbs brings the man behind him, trying to keep him away from the armed men around you all. As the soldiers held you at gunpoint, the Arkham Knight came down behind the window in front of us.
As he came up to the glass, he said this with his disguised voice, “Keep your guns trained on him. If he even looks like he’s planning to leave the room, open fire. Oh and avoid the bat symbol. It’s a little secret. That’s where his armor is the strongest.”
You quirked your head to the side in thought, ‘How did he know that? What else does he know? He might even know that I was Shadowclaw before joining NCIS… before Joker sent Killer Croc and Bane to cripple me while I was searching for Jason…’
“Aim for the weak spots at his shoulders first. Then coordinate fire at the points where the plates meet.” The Knight continued, giving his men instructions and directing them where to shoot.
“Please…” the scared worker behind Gibbs whimpered.
“You say something?” The Knight quipped.
“Leave them out of this. This is between you, me… and Special Agent Wayne…” Batman said, knowing full well what this city you once called home meant to you. It was the last resting place of your mother and boyfriend.
The Arkham Knight then spoke again with a mocking tone, “Still protecting the weak and defenseless. That’s what I like about you. Predictable. That’s why we’re going to win. We know your moves before you do. We know how you think.”
“Oh really? What’s he thinking right now?” You asked with a slight smirk.
The Knight chuckled dryly, “Well… Special Agent Wayne, I’m sure he’s thinking… ‘Who the hell is this guy?’”
“And what about me?” You questioned, stepping up to the glass. You knew what the hell you were doing. Trying to stall for time and get as much information as you could. Hoping that this man would let something slip about his past, motives or even something else about him that might be useful.
“Well, you’re a tricky case. But from what I can tell, you’re a woman who knows what she wants… and will do whatever it takes to get it…”
“You got that right…” Gibbs said. “Agent Wayne is one of our best. And one rule of thumb when it comes to her… don’t underestimate or cross her.”
“Oh, I’m not underestimating or trying to cross anyone, Agent Gibbs. I’m just trying to make a point. And since we’re all on the same page here, I fully… fully intend on killing Batman. But, first… we’re gonna make him suffer…”
With that in place, Gibbs turned to Batman and simply nodded. Within a split second, the BatMobile came crashing through the glass. Gibbs ducked for cover while your father threw himself on top of you to protect you.
~~~~~~~
You were right when you thought to yourself that it was gonna be a long night. Between Barbara getting kidnapped, the Cloudburst being unleashed, you and McGee trying to keep Robin from finding out and Commissioner Gordon losing his shit with Batman about losing Barbara and her involvement as Oracle. You can most certainly say that shit has completely hit the fan.
However, your hope for answers about the Arkham Knight was about to be tested. More specifically, who he was under the mask and his true motive. Anything he does or says was being considered evidence. Luckily, Abby had managed to take a voice sample from the Knight from your father’s comm and was breaking it down to find a match. By the time you arrived at the Manor, the match was probably already found.
When you walked into your vacant bedroom, where Abby and Ducky were taking up shop, you saw Abby staring at a screen with two unplayed audio files side by side onscreen. Ducky was in the Batcave with Alfred, doing autopsies on the handful of murder victims that were found around the city. Obviously, Ducky didn’t want to intrude on the goth forensics scientist. Especially when he had his own workload to deal with.
Abby appeared to be frozen in front of her computer, almost as if she saw or heard something she didn’t like. It made you wonder what she could’ve discovered from the audio analysis.
“Abby?” You exclaimed to her, hoping she wasn’t in a trance or something of the like.
“Hey, (Y/N). Sheesh, I swear you and Gibbs have evidence radar,” Ms. Scuito said, her low pigtails moving with her as she spun around.
“Did you found anything?”
When you asked that, there was a long pause from the forensics specialist. Something was definitely off and it had to do with the Arkham Knight. Your gut was telling that she was reluctant about telling you what it was.
“Abby…”
“I broke down and remove the electronic flange that the Knight was using in his helmet. It was specifically designed to cover up any key details about his voice. Voice cracks, pitch, sound… things like that.”
“This guy didn’t want to find out who he is. Forensically or medically…”
“Yes. Only I was able to pull away the electronic interference over top his voice. And taking that edited voice, I ran it through a database of known Batman allies and rogues. And…”
“And what, Abs?”
“You’ll never guess who it matches with…” With that, Abby played the two audios, which were broken down by keywords. As soon as you heard them, your whole world froze. You recognize the voice being played back to you. It was a voice that you hadn’t heard in years since you joined NCIS. A voice that you thought you would never hear again.
“Your deceased boyfriend, Jason Todd… he’s back from the dead as the Arkham Knight…”
“Just remeber: I’ve got mouths to feed. Two goldfish. I’m the only source of income and they are awfully cute.”
You have captured his essence perfectly. His…anger. His intent. Uh, his bloodlust.”
“Never get personally involved on a case.”
“Never go anywhere without a knife.”
“Never take anything for granted”
“Family is more than just DNA it’s about people who care and take care of eachother.”
“ My superpowers are kicking down doors, breaking through windows, a tango."
“It’s better to seek forgiveness than ask permission”
“You cannot break my door one minute and expect me to face my whole life the next.”
Die, you stupid machine! “
“Go. Unhydrate”
“I am not much for words. Most things are better left unsaid
“American idioms drive me up a hall.”
I never even heard the word "penpal" until you came along.”
The man's desk is not even cold. “
I already agreed to stay away from the windows.”
I will kill you eighteen different ways with this paper clip.”
‘Do you people find me…boring?’
“Always work as a team. “
Love is never having to read her her Miranda Rights.”
I always say, you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your family.”
‘You dudes in the Secret Service ever think about throwing yourselves in front of the president’s diet?’
Well, it wasn't the arrow.”
‘What good’s it being an armed Federal Agent, if you can’t drive fast?’
“Did she give you the cold elbow?”
I thought I'd brighten the place up a bit.”
“ You need to cut the man some slacks.”
“Do you mind if I grab a bat nap?”
“You look you have seen a goat.”
“And do marines sell the yard often?”
One can always tell a woman’s intentions from her panties.”
old college flame
pairing: tony dinozzo x ex-girlfriend!reader
summary: you and tony had dated in college. you were the only serious girlfriend he ever had. after going your separate ways, you got a job working at the FBI, which means you hadn’t seen tony since. until NCIS and the FBI have to collaborate on a case.
word count: 2.3k
Tumblr media
“Agent Fornell, is NCIS aware that we are assisting them on this case? You’ve told me how Agent Gibbs doesn’t like other agencies to step on his toes.” You asked your boss.
You both were currently in the elevator, riding up to the NCIS squad room. You had never worked with NCIS in all your years at the agency, and you wanted to know what to expect.
“Yes, Agent Gibbs invited us on to this case.” He informed you.
The elevator doors dinged, and you both stepped out. You followed after Fornell, since he knew his way around NCIS headquarters. “Agent Gibbs, pleasure to work with you again.” Your boss said, walking into a room with four desks.
Gibbs stood up and shook Fornell’s hand. “You must be Agent L/N. Tobias told be about you. You’ve been at the FBI for six years now?” He asked. You nodded, politely, and shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, sir.” You said, simply.
Gibbs gestured behind you. “That’s Special Agent McGee, and this is Ziva David.” He explained. They both came over and shook your hand.
“I read your paper about using satellite images during investigations. I thought it was really interesting.” You told McGee. He was flattered. “I’m actually working on that now trying to analyze images around our crime scene. I can show you, if you like. I could use a second opinion.” He offered.
You quickly nodded and agreed. “Here, let me borrow my colleague’s chair. He won’t mind, he has a thing for beautiful women.” McGee said, wheeling the chair from the empty desk over to his own desk.
You took a seat, and he showed you the screen. “I’ve been looking at this radius between the two crimes because we think the suspect lives in the area.” He explained, pointing at the circles on the map.
“We have an unsolved case from a few years ago that I think might be related.” You said, pulling the file out of your bag and showing it to him.
“It matches the other two crimes, and it took place right around here.” You said, gesturing towards the map.
McGee glanced over the file before typing in the third location. “That narrows our search area down by a lot.” He said, glancing over at Gibbs.
“Up on the screen, McGee,” Gibbs said, gesturing at the tv. From behind you, you heard the elevator doors ding.
“Probie, where’s my chair?” You heard a loud voice ask. The voice sounded familiar to you, but you weren’t sure why.
You turned around to see who was talking. “It’s being borrowed by Agent—” McGee started to say, as you turned around and made eye contact with Tony.
“Y/N,” Tony said, almost at a whisper. He was standing completely still, just staring. You were also frozen in your seat.
“You two know each other?” Gibbs asked, curious as to why you both were just staring at each other.
“College,” you both said at the same time.
You and Tony had dated for two years in college. He was your first real love, and you were his. You broke up because you were moving to different cities. You both preferred having a mutual breakup instead of your relationship deteriorating from doing long distance and ending with a messy breakup.
Gibbs and Fornell both snapped to get you both out of your trances.
“McGee, you and Agent L/N go work with Abby on this map. Tony and Ziva start looking into the cold case.” Gibbs delegated.
You stood up from your seat and walked over to Tony. “Hi,” you said, giving him a soft smile. You handed him the file, and he returned the smile. “It’s nice to see you,” he responded, left just as speechless as you were.
“Right this way,” McGee said, showing you to the elevator. You followed after him, looking back over your shoulder and making eye contact with Tony.
You and McGee stepped into the elevator. “So, you know Tony?” McGee asked you. You nodded your head. “Yeah, you could say that. Or at least I used to,” you told him.
“You two haven’t seen each other since college?” McGee asked, curiously. He had never seen Tony as shaken up as he was when he saw you.
“Yeah, I think so,” you said, as though you didn’t specifically remember the last time you saw Tony.
It was when you brought Tony to the airport. He was leaving for DC. You both knew it’d be the last time you saw each other. It was the only time you’d seen Tony cry. You had a Hallmark-movie emotional kiss.
And you hadn’t seen him since.
You and McGee stepped out of the elevator and walked down a hallway. You both walked into Abby’s lab. Then, you noticed Abby.
She was typing on her computer, facing away from you both. “Hi, Abby.” McGee said as you both entered the room.
“McGee, did you hear? Ziva called me. Something about Tony acting weird around some girl. I was thinking secret ex-girlfriend, but that doesn’t really feel like Tony—” Abby started rambling, before McGee interrupted.
“Abby,” McGee said, loudly. He gave you a look of sympathy. Abby turned around, and her eyes went wide.
“Abby, meet Agent L/N from the FBI,” McGee introduced you.
Abby had a terrified look in her eyes. “See, you might think I was talking about you, but I was actually talking about someone else.” She lied, trying to smooth things over.
“Hey, don’t worry about it. I get it,” you assured her. She looked relieved. The three of you discussed the map for a few minutes, and then McGee got a phone call.
“Boss wants me upstairs,” He said, leaving the lab.
“Hey, I’m sorry about earlier.” Abby apologized again. You gave her a polite smile. “You really don’t have to worry about it. Also, I thought you’d want to know that you were right.” You told her.
Her eyebrows furrowed, and you could tell from her expression that she was confused. “Wait, about what?” She asked you.
“Tony,” you said, simply.
She still looked confused for another minute, and then her eyes lit up. “You’re Tony’s ex-girlfriend? You two actually dated?” Abby asked, excitedly.
You could tell how shocked she was. She ran and grabbed two chairs for you both to sit on. You took a seat, giggling at her excitement.
“So, Tony actually had a girlfriend? Like a serious girlfriend?” She asked you. You nodded your head. “Two years serious,” you replied.
Abby was shocked. She’d never heard Tony talk about a girlfriend. There wasn’t even many girls that he took on second dates. He didn’t even try to seriously date anyone after you.
What you both had was special. Tony knew he’d never be able to replicate that, so he didn’t see a point in trying. That is what led to the long string of one night stands.
Abby’s expression shifted when she saw your disappointment. She was excited to learn Tony had a girlfriend, but reminiscing about your relationship just gave you regrets.
“When you said having a secret ex-girlfriend didn’t sound like Tony, what did you mean?” You asked Abby, curiously. She didn’t know what to say.
“Obviously, I didn’t know Tony in college, but now, I’ve haven’t seen him date anyone serious. It’s a lot of first dates that don’t go anywhere. What you both had must have been really special.” She said, giving you a soft smile.
You sighed, thinking back to your relationship. It was special. You both had the perfect fit, until you didn’t.
“I should probably get back upstairs. I wouldn’t say Fornell is the most patient boss.” You said, standing up from your seat. Abby giggled to herself. “Sounds like Gibbs,” she joked.
“What sounds like Gibbs?” You heard Gibbs as he walked into the room.
“I’m gonna head back upstairs.” You said, quickly walking out of the room. You waited for the elevator. When it dinged, you went to step inside.
You bumped straight into Tony, who was trying to get out of the elevator. You both froze. “Hi, again,” you said, softly.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said, scooting to the side to let you get in the elevator.
“I was just getting out.” He said, stepping into the hallway. You watched him as the doors started to close, when he quickly hopped inside the elevator.
He quickly flipped the off switch, turning the lights darker and bringing the elevator to a halt.
“Sorry, I just really needed to talk to you.” He said, turning to face you. You smiled at him, knowing exactly how he felt.
“So you’re working with the FBI now?” He asked, not knowing how to start this conversation. You nodded, giving him an awkward smile.
“Have you, y’know, been doing good?” You asked. Even after all these years, you still cared about him. “Yeah, I’m doing better. What about you? You ever get married?” He asked, remembering how you had talked about your perfect wedding.
You let out half of a laugh. “Nope, not married. Not even close,” you said, honestly. He nodded along, and you knew he felt the same way.
“Trouble finding the right guy?” He asked. He knew he sounded jealous, but you were his first love.
“Nope, I had the right guy. Just the wrong time,” you said, taking a step closer to him. He looked down at the floor. “I’m sorry if I ever hurt you. We tried to stop things from ending messily, but I don’t think it mattered. Having to say goodbye to the person you love the most is always messy.” He said, slowly grabbing one of your hands.
He was nervous, waiting for your permission. You gave him a smile and interlaced your fingers with his.
“You never did anything wrong, Tony. You were perfect. I know we both have regrets about everything, at least I do.” You told him, honestly.
He could hear your hurt in your voice. He wished there was a way to go back and undo all the pain you both had been through.
“Trust me, you are not the only one with regrets. I am always wondering what would have happened if I fought harder for us. Maybe we would have survived long distance, or maybe I should’ve just taken the jump and moved to be with you.” He rambled.
He had never told anyone any of this. He felt so relieved to get it off his chest. “I guess we’ll never know.” You said. You were realizing for the first time that you both were living in the same city now.
Tony went to say something, but stopped himself. “Actually, nevermind. That’s stupid,” he said, dropping your hand and backing up from you. He leaned against the elevator railing, worrying he’d just messed everything up.
He went to flip the on switch, but you grabbed his hand, stopping him. “It’s not stupid. What were you going to say?” You asked him.
He took a deep breath, knowing he could blow everything up with what he was about to say.
“I was just going to say that I never stopped loving you.” He confessed, looking into your eyes with a look that made you melt.
You cupped his face and kissed him. He quickly wrapped his arms around your waist, kissing you back. He spun you around, so your back was pressed up against the wall.
Your hands found their way back into his hair, like they had so many times before. It all still felt natural. He pulled you closer to him. He had missed you for years, and now he felt like he couldn’t breath without you.
He ran his tongue along your bottom lip, causing you to smirk. “God, I have missed you so much,” Tony whispered, pulling out of the kiss.
“Are we giving us a second chance?” You asked him. A giant smile spread on his face. “I have dreamed about having a second chance with you for years.” He said, giving you a quick peck on the cheek.
Suddenly, Tony’s phone started ringing.
“Yeah, Abby, what’s up?” He asked. You heard Abby cheering loudly on the other side. Tony flinched, pulling the phone away from his ear.
“You got the girl back! You both are so cute together.” You heard her say, causing Tony’s cheeks to turn pink.
“Wait a minute. Abby are you spying through the security camera?” He asked, turning to face the camera. You heard the phone beep as she hung up.
You giggled to yourself. “Sounds like Abby is a fan.” You joked. He nodded, knowing what you said was an understatement. “She didn’t know it was you but she always knew I was hung up on someone.” He said, pulling you into a hug.
“We should probably get back before Gibbs and Fornell get suspicious.” You mumbled, into his shirt. You both pulled out of the hug, and he flipped the on switch.
You walked back into the squad room. You both were anticipating that Abby would have told the rest of the team already, but no one seemed to react.
“Boss is on his way up, he wants to talk theories.” McGee informed you both. You both nodded.
Tony grabbed your hand, which caught McGee and Ziva’s attention. They gave each other a quick look from across the room. They were both wondering what was happening.
Tony pulled his chair out for you, letting you sit down. Then, he leaned against the side of his desk.
“So?” McGee asked, looking at Tony.
Tony chuckled at his colleagues’ intrigue and curiosity.
“You may be seeing much more of Agent L/N” Tony said, causing both McGee and Ziva to smile. “We’re happy for you both,” Ziva said, smiling.
McGee walked over to you. “You’ll be needing this. I’m going to need to hear all about how Tony was in college.” McGee said, handing you his card with his phone number.
“We should all get drinks tonight. I’m sure you have lots of stories about Tony.” Ziva suggested. Tony knew he was going to be in for a long night.
Aurora was still in shock about what had just happened as she entered Abby’s lab, where she found both Abby and Gibbs waiting for her.
“I’m sorry I’m late, I was–”
“Rule #6,” Gibbs interrupts her.
“Right, never apologize, it's a sign of weakness,” she sighs. Abby looks at her, concerned at seeing her friend’s distraught expression.
“You okay there Artemis?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Aurora dismisses her. “McGee said you had something for us Abs?”
“Right! So, according to…” Abby drones on about what she had found in the recent evidence that they had collected from the crime scene. Aurora still barely understood a lot of the forensic lingo, but it also didn’t help she was just distracted in general. Her mind was bouncing through different memories.
“You’ll be safe, right? Promise me you’ll be as safe as you can?” Bradley begs her. Everyone had just found out that she was joining NCIS officially and Bradley had finally been able to get her alone, pulling Aurora off to the side.
Smiling at him, she nods. “Of course. I’m sorry I didn’t try and become a naval aviator like we planned.”
He shakes his head and returns the smile, grabbing Aurora’s hand and pulling her in closer..
“You have nothing to be sorry about, princess. I just want you to be safe.”
“For you, anything B.”
Aurora was on autopilot as she walked to take a seat in Abby’s chair in the other room, while Gibbs and Abby were distracted, not noticing that she had left the conversation. Another memory came flooding back into mind, this one much darker than the last.
Aurora’s screams echo across the walls within the room she had been kept in for hours. Or was it days? She couldn’t tell anymore. All she knew was she was almost past her breaking point. He had electrocuted her with a cattle rod, cut her, and beaten her. He was careful to not make her lose too much blood, knowing the right spots to make it hurt, but not enough to kill her. To prolong her suffering.
“C’mon, is that all you got?!” she growls at her captor.
“You haven’t even seen everything yet,” he replies calmly before electrocuting her once more with a higher voltage. Her screams start up once again, agony taking over.
A thud was heard as the door was kicked down.
“Freeze! NCIS!” a voice calls out. The captor tries to go after the voice with the rod, but was shot multiple times for attempting to attack the group. Aurora looks up and sees Gibbs and Ziva in the doorway.
“Took you long enough,” she croaks out, sarcastically. Ziva yells at Tony and McGee to get a medic, while Gibbs unties her from the chair, helping to lift her up. Ziva made sure that the attacker was dead before helping Gibbs carry Aurora.
“Thank you for saving me,” Aurora whimpers, looking at Ziva and Gibbs before her body finally gives out, body collapsing from the exhaustion and pain she’d suffered from.
“Benjamin?! Breathe! Listen to my voice,” someone calls out. She recognizes it as Gibbs kneeling next to her, trying to calm her down, while Abby panics on the phone. She can hear Abby telling Ducky or Palmer to come down and check on her. Aurora then realizes that she was having another panic attack and slowly begins urging herself to calm down.
“Focus on my voice Artemis,” Gibbs says. “In and out. In through your nose, out through your mouth.”
Her breathing starts to slow down and Abby comes back into her view and hands her Burt, the farting hippo. Aurora takes and embraces the stuffed toy in her arms. She hugs it tightly as it sounds its signature fart noise, burying her face into the stuffed toy as she regulates her breathing.
“I’m sorry. I thought I had it under control,” she whispers to Gibbs. He puts his hand on her shoulder.
“Artemis, how long has this been going on?”
“The panic attacks? Since the accident. Recently? Since the start of the case it’s gotten a bit worse,” she replies.
Gibbs sighs. “Artemis–”
“Please don’t take me off the case Gibbs. I can do this.”
“Artemis, you need to take a breath. At least take a day off. We can manage for now,” Gibbs says, getting up just before Ducky came in with his medical bag.
“Ahh, Gibbs,” Ducky says. “Abby said you need my assistance.”
“Yes, do a check on Artemis here and then make sure she goes home, or at least away from this case for a few hours.”
“Gibbs,” Aurora interjects. “That’s an order, Benjamin,” Gibbs sternly speaks up as he gives her the infamous look that lets her know that he was serious.
She sighs and nods. “Yes, boss.”
Abby gives Aurora a big hug not wanting to let go of the girl. Ducky then gets to work on checking up on Aurora, Abby giving her one last concerned look before reluctantly leaving to join Gibbs to continue going over the evidence in the other room.
“He means well, you know that Artemis,” Ducky tells her, preparing to examine her.
“I know Ducky…I know.”
Aurora needed fresh air from the panic attack she had, as well as after being examined by Ducky. Gibbs wanted her to take a break, so she decided to sit outside in front of the NCIS building where there was a little park with benches. The sun was just about to set, so she could see all the colors of the sky. She sits on a bench and sighs, resting her elbows on her knees before burying her head into her hands. Just for a moment, Aurora wanted to close her eyes and breathe, those thoughts in her mind finally falling silent.
A throat clears, and she looks up to see Lieutenant Jake Seresin standing in front of her, coffee in hand and a bottle of water in the other. He looks at her, subtly asking with his head if he could sit next to her.
 She nods and lets him sit beside her. “Lieutenant, what are you doing back in the Navy Yard?”
“Agent Dinozzo asked me to come back, something about a DNA test to clear me from the murder. I stopped to get a coffee real quick and saw you sitting here, figured you could use this.” As he handed her the water bottle.
“Thanks, I really appreciate it, Lieutenant”
“Hangman,” he corrects her. She smiles as she repeated his callsign back to him.
He took a good look at her. He couldn’t believe that the girl that Rooster and Apollo always used to talk about was sitting right next to him, let alone her being THE Artemis almost everyone talked about. Gibbs and his team were renowned within the Navy and the Marine Corps. He glances at her figure, bent over still, putting the cold water bottle to her head.
“You alright?”
She takes a deep breath. “Long day, long case.”
“PTSD?”
She looks at him in shock. Jake turns to her.
“I recognize the look,” he shrugs.
She sighs and chews the inside of her cheek, “I just feel like I'm stuck in a constant state of panic, like everyone is watching my every move. Like I’m a bomb waiting to go off.”
Jake patiently listens to her.
“And the nightmares, the fucking nightmares,” she mutters, “It’s like nothing I do can help the nightmares. No matter how many bad guys we catch, what happened will always haunt me.”
There was a small pause between the two of them. He didn’t want to push her to know what happened, but rather why she hasn’t talked to anyone else about this.
“If you have a question, Lieutenant, I suggest you ask,” she remarks.
“How do you know I have a question?”
“I’ve gotten used to reading people on this job.” She replies.
“Do they not know? Your team? About your PTSD?”
“Gibbs, yes. The rest of the team, if they do, they haven’t said anything.”
“Shouldn’t you talk to someone about it?”
“I did, it’s called a psych evaluation,” she retorts.
“That doesn’t count,” he sighs, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Well, it’s not like I have any options, since they’re the only ones who know about what happened that day.” She sits up to take a good look at the naval aviator.
“Not even your family? Bradshaw?”
She laughs sarcastically. “Please, Maverick almost had a heart attack when I told him that I was joining NCIS, let alone a case where I almost died. Mom and Amelia are supportive, but I don’t want them to know what I go through on a daily basis. And Pey and B–” she pauses and sighs.
“I don’t want to put them through any of that pain of knowing. This is my burden alone to carry.”
“It doesn’t have to be that way Aurora,” Jake argues as he tries to comfort her. “It’s better to have someone to talk to, why not your team?”
“Because my team has enough to worry about,” she hisses at him. Her temper growing as the conversation goes on.
“Don’t you trust them?” he asks. That question makes her pause shifting in her seat and biting the inside of her cheek.
“I do.” she replies curtly.
“Then why don’t they know anything about your PTSD? Your family?”
“I’m just…protecting myself.”
“From what?”
She finally looks into his eyes and for the first time he sees the pain in her eyes. Bags under eyes from exhaustion, from the nightmares or the job, he wasn’t sure. Her eyes were glistening with tears that were threatening to fall down.
“From getting hurt,” she admits her voice just above a whisper.
Looking at her, Jake then set his coffee down before reaching out his arms in a quiet offer. Instantly, Aurora put her own arms out and accepts the hug from him.
Aurora couldn’t believe she was being comforted by Bradley’s arch nemesis (so he calls him), and if he found out, he would probably be so pissed, it made her chuckle internally.
A few seconds pass before they separate from the hug. Jake picks up his coffee and takes another sip.
“So, a Mitchell huh?”
Aurora laughs as she opens the water bottle Jake had given her and takes a swig from it.
“It’s been so long since I’ve heard that.”
“Your last name?”
“Heck yeah. It’s always Aurora, Artemis, or Benjamin. I haven’t been called Mitchell since college.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve called someone Mitchell,” Jake retorts.
“Ahhh right, Peyton,” she smirks at him.
Aurora never thought she’d get to say that she had made the Jake Seresin turn red.
“He told you?”
She lightly chuckles. “He tells me almost everything. Things that sometimes I don’t even ask,” she shakes her head, as if trying to get rid of any memories from what Peyton tells her.
Jake stutters a little. “I’m still…I don’t really…I-”
“Jake, you don’t have to explain yourself. It’s not my business to know. But if you ever need to talk to anyone, I’m here.”
“Is this a way of saying you want my number?” he smirks. Aurora chuckles.
“With the way you are when I mention my brother, I wouldn’t flirt with his twin sister,” she teases.
Jake chuckles. “How are they? Have you heard from them lately?”
“Got a postcard from both of them. Deployed on the USS Franklin, took a stop in Japan. They seem to be doing fine.”
“You miss them?”
Aurora looks to the sky. “Every hour, every minute, every second I breathe,” she repeats the phrase the trio always say to each other, thoughtfully rubbing a thumb over her wrist where her charm bracelet usually would sit.
Jake looks at his watch. “I should probably head in.”
“C’mon,” she says standing up. “I’ll escort you.”
“Thanks. Not just for escorting me, but for talking with me.”
She smiles at him. “Anytime.”
Aurora and Jake step out of the elevator to the squadroom and Jake tosses his empty coffee cup in the nearby trash can on the way to Aurora’s desk. Tony, Ziva, and McGee watch the two as they enter the desk area.
“Hey Tony, I ran into Lieutenant Seresin on the way up, something about a DNA testing,” Aurora spoke up, as she went to her desk to set her water bottle down, and sat at her desk.
“Oh right, this way Lieutenant,” Dinozzo gets up from his desk and leads Jake to Abby’s lab.
Jake locks eyes with Aurora again on their way out as he nods at her and leaves with Tony,  while McGee and Ziva are still watching Aurora in disbelief.
Feeling two sets of eyes on her, Aurora looks up from her phone and looks between the pair.
“If you have a question, ask it,” she says.
“Gibbs said you left, something about needing a breather,” McGee addresses.
“That wasn’t a question McGee,” Aurora retorts back.
“Are you okay?” Ziva asks, as she walks towards the girl and leans on her desk.
“Fine.”
“You don’t seem fine,” McGee replies.
“McGee, leave her alone,” Gibbs tells him as he walks into the bullpen.
“Sorry boss.”
Gibbs stops at Aurora’s desk and gives her a look.“I thought I told you to go home.”
“Boss, with all due respect, I can’t. We still have a case to solve. Plus you told me if anything I could just take a couple of hours away from the case,” she replies looking up at Gibbs.
He sighs and looks at Ziva who was still leaning on Aurora’s desk. She took the stare as a sign to go back to her desk and get back to work. Gibbs turns his attention back to Aurora.
“Fine, but if something happens-”
“I’ll go to you Gibbs,” she replies. He nods and walks back to the center of the bullpen.
“Alright, what do you have for me?” He addresses them.
Aurora should have gone home. She should have been at her apartment, eating takeout, watching a Netflix show Peyton had put her on, while cuddling with her golden retriever puppy she named CJ. Usually she would hire someone to come watch him while she was out for her job. So while she should’ve been home doing all of that and relaxing, she realized she needed to talk to someone. Without thinking too much about it, she arrived at Gibbs’ house, and walked through the house’s front door, which was never locked. She took a look around and realized Gibbs was most likely in his basement, so she headed in that direction. She stood in the doorway and spotted Gibbs sanding his boat.
Gibbs looks up as he had heard someone in his house, and sees Aurora. He puts his sander down, and walks back to his table where he had a small fridge sat on it. Usually he would offer a guest some of his whiskey he usually had, but knowing Aurora, he always had a stock of water for her in the fridge. Walking down the stairs of the basement, Aurora came over to Gibbs as he handed her water. She nods her thanks, and takes a sip from the water while sitting on a stool, Gibbs taking the other one beside it.
They sit in silence, while Gibbs watches Aurora fiddle with her water, peeling the label a bit.
Aurora takes a deep breath. “I’m sorry about earlier, Gibbs. Not just about the panic attack but not telling you.”
“Why didn’t you say anything Artemis?”
“Because I didn’t want to look weak.”
“You went through so much trauma, that doesn’t make you weak, Arty.”
“Then why do I feel like I’m losing my mind? Ever since the start of this case, I just can’t get it out of my head. It’s not just the case. I keep reliving memories from my past and they’re nice memories, which makes the pain hurt even more.”
“You’re stronger because of it.”
“Am I?” She says exasperated. “I came to NCIS to be something. To prove to everyone that I can be someone other than my father’s daughter, other than being a Naval aviator legacy. The Mitchell legacy.”
Gibbs sat in silence listening to her as she went on.
“I just feel like I’m being worn down. I love this job, and I love this team.” she says after taking a sip of her water. “I just don’t want to be this broken anymore,” she whispers.
“Have you tried talking to anyone?” Gibbs was trying to comfort as best as he could.
“I’m here, aren’t I?”
“Not me Artemis, your family. Your dad? Brother?”
She stills from that realization. She hadn’t talked to her dad since he had just been recruited as a test pilot for a special Mach 10 project. Peyton was deployed with Bradley. Her mom had her bar to take care of, and Amelia had just started high school. Uncle Goose and Aunt Carole were on their anniversary vacation traveling around Europe. Uncle Ice and Aunt Sarah were still dealing from Uncle Ice’s cancer scare when they thought he had relapsed. No. She hadn’t talked to anyone. She shook her head and Gibbs sighs.
“Kid, you’re going to have to talk to someone.”
“Wh-”
“And not just me,” he cuts her off. “Maybe it’s time to see a therapist.”
Sure, Aurora could. But for Aurora, it was hard for her to ask for help. She just shrugs at Gibbs while biting the inside of her cheek, something she normally does when her anxiety kicks in.
“Maybe it’s time to tell the team-”
“No, Gibbs we both agreed that telling them about my family has nothing to do with my work.”
“When it’s affecting your mental health, I think it’s time to tell them about your family. You have nothing to lose, Artemis.”
She scoffs at Gibbs' words. She knew he was right, but she was stubborn. Aurora didn’t want to lose the respect she had earned from her peers all because of her last name.
“We’re a family too. It’s time to trust us now,” Gibbs says to her.
Aurora looks up at Gibbs. She smiles and takes out the postcard from her pocket and hands it to Gibbs. She could always trust Gibbs, maybe it was time to open up. He takes it and reads it, turning to her with a smirk.
“Brother and boyfriend?” He says teasingly.
“Brother and BEST friend,” she emphasizes, while rolling her eyes.
“Doesn’t seem like it. It sounds like he loves you.”
“No. I mean yes, but only like a friend.”
“I highly doubt that Artemis.”
“No, because if he does I can’t be with him.”
Gibbs looks at her incredulously. “Why?”
“Because I’m broken, he deserves better,” she replies.
“You’re not-”
“And I left. Life just got in the way. I was about to be an NCIS agent, he was just about to start his naval aviator career. He had just gotten into Top Gun, his dream! And I couldn’t hold him back. And he didn’t want to hold me back either.”
“What’s holding you back now?”
Aurora looks at Gibbs and sighs.
“I don’t know anymore.”
Ziva x teen!reader - just soldiers
Tumblr media
So teen reader has grown up in a rough family. It was basically run like a military; get up at the crack of dawn, do all these military base training even when they were like a child. Have a strict schedule to follow every day that they become a robot basically and any sense of being a normal teen thrown out the window. Teen reader is on a field trip with their class to NCIS for their history class talking about laws and every thing. They are in the bullpen where Ziva and the team is. Ziva takes notice to the teen reader and how they seem distant from all the other kids. Maybe something happens and it triggers teen reader to go into that military mindset (like a loud noise or arguing or whatever you want). Ziva knows a thing or two about the military mindset because of her dad and helps teen reader calm down and come back to reality. - @offspringoflordwinter 💜
TW: mentions of abusive and controlling parent
Standing in the middle of the floor with the rest of your class, you had your hands clasped behind your back as you just observed everybody else.
You had no real interest in this trip, you had no interest in becoming an NCIS agent, but your father said he would be busy today, and decided this trip would be a good way to keep you occupied.
“Are you interested in forensics?” A woman asked.
You glanced up at her but said nothing.
“I’m agent Ziva David, what’s your name?”
You turned away, going back to what you were doing.
One of the other students looked over, snickering a little bit.
“They won’t tell you anything, (Y/N)s weird. Never talks. A freak.”
Ziva looked back at you, then she walked back over to her boss who was also stood there watching you.
“Anything?”
“No, another student mentioned their name is (Y/N), but that’s it.”
Gibbs slowly nodded his head.
“I spoke to the teacher, she said she didn’t know much about (Y/N), calm student, occasionally had issues with being suspended for fighting.”
“Gibbs I recognise that look.”
“I know you do…”
You grew disinterested in standing there, and you made your way back into hallway, standing by the wall.
You ran over your daily routine in your head, checking to make sure you knew what you had to do.
Everybody made their way back up to the bullpen, and you stood to the back of your class.
Pulling up the sleeve to your shirt, you have a look at the time, and walked over to your teacher.
“Ma’am, I need to have my lunch now.”
“Yes, of course. Do you mind eating up here?”
“No ma’am.”
She nodded, and you sat down against one of the desks, opening up your lunch box so you could eat.
You have ten minutes to eat your lunch, then you had to do your afternoon work out, then finish your homework just after.
Usually you would then have afternoon classes, but since you were here that went out the window meaning that you had a few free hours.
After finishing your lunch, you stood up, walking back over to your teacher.
“Ma’am, I need to do my training.”
“Oh, is there any way you can skip it for today? I know you use the gym but we don’t have that here.”
“No ma’am. I have to follow my schedule.”
She sighed heavily, gesturing for you to follow her and you did.
She spoke to Gibbs, who was looking at you the whole time.
“We have an empty interrogation room you can use, we can’t give you entrance to the gym.”
“That’s fine sir, I can work around that.”
He nodded.
“Ziva will take you.”
“Thank you.”
You followed behind Ziva, and you rolled your sleeves up, getting ready to start your work out.
“How many push ups can you do?”
“A good solider must be able to do at least 50 push in a row. If you cannot then you are weak. Father does not tolerate weakness.”
Ziva nodded her head, leaning back against the wall.
“What does your father consider weakness?”
“Being sick is weak, crying is weak, being in pain is weak. A strong person must be able to go beyond their limits and not complain.”
Ziva listened to you carefully.
“Are you a solider?”
“Yes ma’am.”
You finished your push ups, and started doing some sit ups.
“How long have you been a soldier for?”
“My whole life.”
She nodded again.
There was no sign of emotion in your voice, nothing on your face.
You were the perfect soldier, just like she was.
Designed to follow your orders without complaint, to not be able to think for yourself, no thought about being a teenager, partying, drinking, all the normal things teenagers do.
You stood up, and rolled your shoulders slightly, turning around to face Ziva with your hands clasped behind your back.
“Do you have any friends?”
“Soldiers have no need for friends, they are useless and only weigh down the missions.”
“What is your mission?”
“I have no assignment right now.”
“But you have had one?”
“No. I do not receive my first mission until my 18th year.”
You studied Ziva quietly for a moment, looking her up and down.
“You are like me.”
“Yes.”
You looked at your watch, rolling your sleeves back down, doing them back up and you straightened your shirt.
“Why did you abandon your mission?”
“Because there is more to life than being a soldier for somebody else.”
“This place has made you weak.”
“Is that what you think?”
You nodded your head, leaving through the open door.
You walked back to your class with Ziva walking alongside you.
She didn’t say anything else, and neither did you you just rejoined your class, standing to the side of them all.
You were just watching when a loud bang from nearby made you spin around, a few of your fellow students began laughing loudly.
But you had jumped into fight mode, so when one of them rushed to run past you, you grabbed his arm, throwing him to the ground as you pinned him.
“(Y/N) let him go!” Your teacher yelled.
You said nothing, pinning your fellow student further into the ground.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and you spun around, standing up you grabbed the man by the arm, spinning around with so much force your threw him to the ground as well.
“(Y/N), look at me that’s an order.”
You snapped your head to Ziva.
You seemed to recognise her as some sort of authority, and you stood up straight, clasping your hands behind your back.
But you were still on guard.
“You cannot attack your fellow students.”
“He is a threat.”
“He was just playing a joke on you.” Gibbs said.
There was another loud noise, and you dissociated from them all, spinning around you charged at the person responsible for it.
He was pulled away from you, and you stood there, fists in the air ready to attack anybody that came after you.
Ziva walked over, hands raised in the air.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay.”
You took a swing for her and she dodged it, moving to the side and you followed her.
Ziva was raised like you, she knew how to predict an attack and how to avoid it.
She grabbed your wrist, and you swung yourself back, sweeping your leg under hers to get yourself free and you crouched down, grabbing her shirt.
You raised tour fist and tried to punch her, but she caught it, eyes locked with hers.
“There is no threat to you here…” she whispered.
“Everybody is a threat.”
“No. No they’re not. You’re safe, either federal agents and teenagers whom I’m sure cannot even begin to match your level.”
She offered the smallest of smiles.
“There is no threat.”
She slowly sat up, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“You need to breathe. Focus. Breath.”
You went to pull you hand away.
“Don’t. I am older than you and I have had far more training.” She warned.
You nodded.
You were a soldier yes, but your father told you not to confront somebody who you knew you wouldn’t have a chance to attack.
Not yet anyway.
So you sat down, crossing your legs as you took a small breath.
“Focus on me, nobody else.”
Ziva let go of you, but she was ready to jump into action in case you went to attack somebody else.
You slowly breathed in and out, eyes locked with hers.
“Ignore everybody else, they’re not important.”
You nodded your head.
Ziva carried on leading you through the breathing you had to do in order to calm yourself down.
“Come with me.”
Ziva stood up, and you followed after her, letting her take you to a conference room where you were able to freely pace back and forth.
Ziva stood by the door so you couldn’t run away.
She realised that you were a danger, your solider mindset was going to put somebody in danger, you were going to seriously hurt somebody or worse.
You didn’t necessarily know that you were going to hurt somebody, but it was still a factor.
You wouldn’t care if you did either, you wouldn’t think twice about it if it meant protecting yourself.
At this rate Ziva was sure you were going to land yourself in prison before you even reached being an adult.
“I can help you.”
You paused pacing, turning your attention to her.
“I do not need help.”
“You do, because you shouldn’t have to live like this. You are not a soldier, you are a child.”
“I am a soldier, that is what I will always be.”
Ziva shook her head.
“No, you can be so much more.”
“No.”
She sighed.
“Unfortunately we cannot let you return home.”
“Okay.”
You sat down in a chair, placing your hands on the table.
You showed no objection, and that’s where your father had messed up.
You didn’t care if he was taken away from you, you had no attachment to him, or anybody else for that matter.
You would carry on.
Just like this.
Until it killed you.
Just like she used to.
And she wasn’t about to let that happen to you
