Option to storm off if you're mad at Ciocana, especially if you're touch-averse
Misc edits, bug fixes, and background performance improvements
This update is a massive improvement for new readers rather than warranting an entirely new playthrough. If you have any saves right before the Ceremony, you can find the most content there! However, the changes and additions are all over the demo.
... and Discord! ✦ Join here 🌿
My friend suggested I start one up! I hope to set up some events, share more sneak peeks, and connect with others more with this! 🫶💕 I also added some fun things like anonymous confessions and customizable color names, so please join! :)
(Very detailed changelog below if you're interested!)
Minor rewording for Karen encounter.
MC can now openly grimace when mortals call for MC's attention in Chapter 1. Previously, the only real negative reaction to them is turning away, which is open for any interpretation as to why MC does so.
When mortals ask for MC's help, MC can snap at them to speak quickly.
Most choices suggested you are friendly with Nero, so added a couple of options that are neutral towards him, leaning towards dismissive.
Rewrote a line that says you waved to Nero goodbye. It simply says that he departs.
Added an option to be frustrated with the conversation about mortals, when the only other non-positive options about mortals were about being completely disinterested.
Added an option where the MC says they can take care of themselves or they don't need other people worrying about them so much.
When choosing to be touch averse, selective, or not touch averse, you can now choose to be selective and not want to touch Rafaele, which initially was not an option.
If you are the Universal Eye, you tell Salvatore about the Universe being in pain and they dismiss it, you may be able to refuse conversation with them. They might keep talking to you, but you won't respond to them.
Can decide your relationship to your parents. Can also decide if you're open about your feelings towards them or not.
Variations in how your parents speak to you while preparing and during the Ceremony if they are aware of your bitterness towards them.
Can again openly express disdain for mortals or keep your feelings to yourself when answering Rafaele's question, when originally those options were absent
Can storm off from Ciocana if you do not express positive feelings about the dance, especially if you are touch-averse.
Added blue, pink, purple, and no hair options to Chapter 1, not available in the prologue.
Added red and gold eye colors to Chapter 1, not available in the prologue.
Added clothes option to Chapter 1 to wear to the Ceremony.
ROs will comment on your clothes if they particularly like it during the Ceremony (each have 3 out of 6 clothes they like.)
Added pronouns before the Ceremony. You can have multiple pronouns, remove them, and add multiple of the same kind to increase its chances of frequency.
Minor edits and bug fixes.
See you guys soon for the Chapter 2 update :)

Buddie 613 meta
Tumblr media
We now know that the man who risked himself to get Buck out of the line of fire during the shooting arc is Jeshan, which means ‘clear’ (if you’re interested, you can find more name meanings for 911 characters here). So let me just giggle for a second about the fact that 911 had once again reunited Buddie with a character who can be referred to as Captain Clear Me(h)ta. Coincidence? IDK. But I have to admit, it kinda made me reflect back and feel nostalgic. When I first started watching the show, I had no intention of writing meta for 911, but after going ballistic when 309 aired, I knew I would HAVE to use the s3 hiatus to write down all my thoughts about everything Buddie related so far. That’s what I did, I wrote and shared my baby, my first round of Buddie meta. That’s where it was supposed to end, but then people asked and encouraged me to write meta for the eps in 3b as they would air, too. I figured I could try, and that’s how my Buddie weekly meta posts were born. At the time, there was no one else writing proper weekly meta (I don’t mean a summary/review of the ep, or meta posts that stand on their own, but proper analysis on Buck, Eddie and those who matter to them, organized and serialized for each ep as it aired). And now, I’ve been writing them for almost 3.5 seasons. And I feel like they’ve inspired others to do the same. TBH, I can’t actually remember seeing weekly meta posts in other fandoms (maybe they exist and I just haven’t come across them, IDK). So I got all emotional, thinking about how these posts may be love notes to Buddie and the show, but most of all they’re a love letter to the wonderful people who have been supportive and encouraging, who’ve been reblogging the posts, who’ve been commenting on them and telling me that what I do makes a difference for them. Thank you so much, these posts wouldn’t exist without you. You have a much bigger impact on the fandom than you might have realized! So if Captain Mehta is indeed a nod to the meta, it’s a loving, appreciative nod that belongs to all of you. ~~
Tumblr media
When Chim shows up to escort Hen to work, he ends up sitting down for a talk with Denny instead, and I really enjoyed this scene, it was lovely, but it also once again emphasized the difference between the firefam kids’ relationship with their parents’ colleagues and the r/s Buck and Chris have. Chim talks to Hen’s son when he happens to come across the kid, but he only sits down for a proper conversation because Denny implies Hen and Karen are up to something intimate, and Chim shouldn’t interrupt them just yet. Consider how different that is to how Buck intentionally looks to spend time with and dedicated to Chris! And then Chim is impressed by how smart Denny is. It’s cute, but it also reveals just how little they interact that this comes as a surprise to Chim. It’s so different to the intimate familiarity of a parent, which is what we know Buck has with Chris (and that Chris has with Buck, which can even be seen in the kid’s teasing, for example regarding the snoring in 414). ~~
Tumblr media
You might have seen that, when the promo came out, I momentarily lost my sanity and posted this. I just couldn’t get over the fact that they actually had Eddie correct the chief on the duration of Buck’s death. It was such a spouse thing to do. It was a declaration about the anguish that each single second represented, when Eddie couldn’t breathe because Buck wasn’t. It was a confession of sorts, on how Eddie felt as he desperately NEEDED his husband to live (I’m not even joking when I ascribe him this title, Eddie said with his whole chest, “THAT IS MY IDIOT HUSBAND THAT I HAD TO WATCH DIE FOR THREE MINUTES AND SEVENTEEN SECONDS AND I WILL NEVER FORGET ANY OF THOSE SECONDS, NOR LET ANYONE ELSE DO THAT”). It was a glimpse into how time must have moved differently for him as each second etched itself forever into Eddie’s mind. And yes, it’s a clear parallel to 413, when we witness time slowing down for Eddie. And I mentioned in my post that in both scenarios, Buck is just out of his reach, so close, but simply not close enough. In one case, this forced Eddie to believe he must now accept his own death. In the other, he couldn’t accept the possibility that Buck would die, so he just fought harder, and if he couldn’t save Buck with one course of action, he tried another, Eddie just had to keep going, 'coz the idea of those three minutes and seventeen seconds turning into an eternity? Unacceptable. ~~
Tumblr media
But notice in my unhinged post from that day, I used the word ‘counting.’ Eddie counted the seconds, and this is revealed to us at a poker game where Buck is counting the cards. I already noticed that when we saw the promo, but this connection was reinforced in the ep itself when Chief Williams vocalized what Buck was doing. The thing about counting is that it’s reserved for what matters, what’s crucial. Buck is counting the cards in order to win, and he wants to win because it matters to Eddie. Buck wasn’t the one who initiated the search for a poker game where he could use his newfound skills, Eddie was the one to take that initiative. And he could bring Buck along without telling him where they’re going (I would normally scream for a whole separate paragraph just about Eddie telling Buck to dress nice and there being no need for any further explanation or prompting, but we were so well fed, I’ll have to scream about it into my fist for just one sentence) 'coz Eddie was so sure his husband would go along with whatever crazy scheme he’d come up with. And he was right, even though Buck didn’t think it would end well, he still went along with what his husband wanted. Please let me reiterate: Buck’s counting cards because Eddie is so important to him, and Eddie was counting the seconds because Buck’s his vital sign. ~~
Tumblr media
Another thing to keep in mind about the poker game is that the only other time we’ve seen Buck playing poker was in 312. In that ep, Eddie was off to meet Christopher’s school teachers (leading to his eventual lackluster r/s with Ana), so having a free evening, Buck spends it with Maddie, Chim and Josh (and is told he unequivocally sucks at Poker). Jokes were made about setting Josh and Buck up, and it was implied whatever Buck’s sexuality was, that was not the reason why Maddie abstained from making the match. What I find interesting is seeing how far our boys have come! In that ep, they were operating separately, and it led them down the wrong paths.
Tumblr media
In this ep, Buck and Eddie were inseparable both as a couple (even sharing the winnings from Buck’s new talent, because what don’t these two share? And I was particularly chewing glass when Chief Williams asks Buck how he wanted HIS winnings, but instead of answering her, he looks at his husband. THEY ARE SO FREAKING MARRIED), and as a family unit with Chris (which is maybe a good moment to point out that all of the romantic couples were paired off in 613, and so were Buddie! Now, one could argue that Buck and Eddie were paired off because, well... who else is left for them to hang out with? But 312 is a reminder that when the show wants to, it can push the main cast and minor characters into the same orbit, so it still didn’t HAVE to pair Buck and Eddie off here. It chose to. On top of that, by showing them with Chris as well, 911 reminded us they’re far more bonded than just two best bros hanging out together ‘coz none of their other friends are single). In short, during 312, Buck lost and Eddie was about to be lost on a detour in his romantic journey. In 613, they ARE a family, they work as one throughout the ep, not just in parts of it, and they’re both winning. ~~
Something that gets to me is that when I first shared the BTS pic of Buddie at the poker game, it was clear that Eddie was just bursting with self confidence. He looked like he would be the star of that game. But when we got the promo, we discovered that it was actually going to be Buck who would shine that night. So what makes me slightly froth at the mouth is that all of that sexy confidence we picked up on in the photo? It was real. We weren’t wrong. It just wasn’t confidence that Eddie had in himself, it’s confidence he has in Buck. All of his swagger? Is a reflection of how much he believes and enjoys seeing his husband be a star. I am gonna need 3-6 working weeks at least to recover from knowing this. ~~
Tumblr media
Speaking of things that destroyed me forever, everything about the Buckley-Diaz family in this ep falls into that category. I mean, not only did we once again have incredibly domestic scenes, we had one that was very reminiscent of the lasagna one in 601 (Eddie with Chris at the table, Buck fussing around them only to join in once he brings along something to be consumed), reinforcing that this is THEIR NORM, we also had Eddie and Chris being so cute and supportive when it comes to Buck’s new ability (Chris calls him a superhero, Eddie goes along with it, and when Buck’s upset he didn’t get a better superpower, naming some he would have liked to have, Eddie comforts him by saying those other options sound horrible).
Tumblr media
And then to top it all off, we had Buck and Chris cooking together. Bobby’s been explicitly acknowledged as basically being Buck’s dad by both of them, and we know Bobby’s been teaching Buck how to cook. Now we get Buck doing the same with Chris, clearly marking them as father and son, especially since this is done with just the two of them, this special time that’s allocated just to their bond together. Eddie is not needed as a middleman. I know that this isn’t news, but every single time the show reinforces this truth, that Buck is Christopher’s other dad, that their bond is that deep, I gain 10 years, so I have to mention it. ~~
Tumblr media
For 613, I made my weekly gifset about Buck and answers, but I’d actually like to elaborate on what you see there. In 602, at the happiness center call, we see Buck looking to Lev in search for his own answers on what his happiness looks like. When he still can’t find any, he turns to Hen, because she always has them. Along this season, that’s been his theme. He’s trying to figure out what he wants in order to be happy, which is connected to the couch theme we’ve all been screaming about since 601 (and especially after he fell asleep on Eddie’s in 612). In 613, Buck suddenly finds that he’s the guy with the answers and he likes it. But has he really got them? Buck says these words to Eddie and Chris, and in addition to that, while he utters them, he’s literally captured in the same frame together with Eddie. But it’s also essential that we heard why Chris can’t just be given the answers. It’s in order to learn, Eddie tells him. That’s exactly what Buck has to do, he has to find his answers in order to learn from the search process. He’s not just there yet, but the framing of the whole scene coupled with the ongoing couch theme is very loud. ~~
Tumblr media
What gets me maybe most of all in a whole ep of REALLY GOOD BUDDIE CONTENT, is the way the whole thing wraps up. The storyline on Buck’s new abilities doesn’t end with any commentary on those or on his recovery process. His last scene in this ep is the one with Chris. It follows directly the one with Hen and Karen, a scene which reminds us that we’re never surprised at either woman spending solo time with and caring about Denny, even though neither is biologically related to him, because they ARE BOTH his parents. In the same way, it’s only natural that we see Buck spending alone time with Chris, without Eddie around. It is so meaningful that the last shot of Buck in this ep is not about his story line at all, and neither his abilities, nor having died for several minutes is the point. Instead, the last, and therefore most significant shot of Buck in this very Buddie domestic ep, is him smiling at their son. I feel like that says everything about his trajectory.

Henry Creel and Patty Newby
As requested by many, I will be detailing in the form of a long analysis the relationship and, at first, the friendship that Henry and Patty had. Again, if you do not wish to have spoilers, please do not read on!
Firstly, Henry was misunderstood by his whole family. Alice said that it was "not Henry" that was in the house, just a random boy. Virginia was terrified of Henry, especially after the incident that occurred in Nevada that contributed to them moving to Hawkins for a fresh start. Finally, his father, Victor, was very oblivious to many different things and was generally absent. On his first day of school he was pretty much called weird and not listened to by any of his classmates. The only person who he connects with is Patty Newby.
They form an instant emotional bond with each other. You can feel the chemistry between the two of them. The dynamic has been likened by many to that of Mike and El when they first met. However, I do tend to disagree with this statement. Mainly, due to the fact that, Henry and Patty seemed to form an instant and deep emotional connection. They both were on the same wavelength. Patty is convinced that Henry is good and keeps reassuring him of that throughout the play. I'll get to his powers further on in this post.
After they first meet at school by the locker room, they form an instant bond. Henry talks about his Spyglass that he has and how he likes Superman. He even does the Superman pose and nerds out to that. Patty finds this funny and mentions how she loves Wonder Woman. They both bond over these topics. Before they leave the locker room they say an awkward goodbye and Henry walks off annoyed with himself that he made himself look weird and awkward in front of Patty.
The next time they meet is at a rehearsal for Joyce's play that she is organising. She is desperate to leave Hawkins and therefore she plans to do so through a scholarship. However, the play has to be successful for that to happen. Anyway, back to the story. As Patty is auditioning for the lead role and starts to sing, Henry jumps in out of nowhere and tries to help her gain confidence. He has a go at singing, not to an amazing ability, and everyone in the audience laughs at him. Again, you can see the bond as Henry is trying to help her and genuinely has feelings for her. They have further moments in the play where Henry helps her to calm down and sing, which leads us to the next scene they have together.
It's church day, where everyone goes and attends. The Creel family arrive and Henry hides in the backroom of the church. At the back he finds Patty doing the same thing. Patty is nervous to go out on stage and Henry tries to calm her down. They give confessions and Henry says how that he is not right and there is something wrong with him, he has some sort of power. Patty again tells Henry that he's good and maybe he can use his powers for good. Following that, Henry creates a vision for them both where the church turns into a dance. Patty has the lead role of singing and is adored by everyone who reacts warmly to her performance. During the vision Henry tries to put his arm around Patty to try and get closer to her, but Patty gets caught up in the positive chaos of the vision. Henry gives her confidence through his powers, demonstrating that he can use them for good purposes. He is not inherently bad.
They spend literally everyday together, they really have a strong bond. Not only was it romantic love, they had a true friendship. Their next crucial scene together was during a date that they had at Melvalds. This is where Henry reveals to Patty that he can read people's minds and see what they're really thinking. He tells Patty that Karen thinks Ted is an idiot and Ted is afraid of Karen. Also, that most of them in the place were pretending to like it, really they were bored. Patty is astonished by this and also laughs. Shortly after this, Patty and Henry share their first kiss together.
Unfortunately, the next part is where things start going downhill for their relationship. It's mainly all because of what was going on with the Mindflayer, plus everyone else not being accepting of them being together. When I say not being accepting, I don't mean due to it being a race issue. It was simply that they were not approved of being together by some. Particularly Brenner who wanted Henry for himself, he saw Patty as an obstacle to controlling Henry. After Henry broke out of the HNL, due to Virginia contacting Brenner to take him there, Brenner wanted to find him again. One way was through finding where Patty was as he knew Henry would go for her.
Anyways, let's get back to the story again. Patty convinces Henry to look for her biological mother and Henry is not keen. He knows this could go wrong if the Mindflayer possessed him. They meet up and go to Henry's attic to start the search her mother. Patty mentions how it is cold in the attic, which Henry says that he likes it cold, which is what Will says in Season 2. He manages to find her performing and singing. Patty is so happy to hear this news. However, like Henry feared, the Mindflayer managed to take him over whilst he was in the void looking for Patty's biological mother. Patty gets frightened when Henry tells her to leave so that she doesn't get hurt. Patty's father, Principal Newby, finds them in the attic. To give context to this, Victor Creel goes to speak to Mr. Newby after he mentions how he should know that Henry and Patty are dating. He therefore decides to come over as he is not happy with this. So Mr. Newby walks into the attic at the wrong time. He tries to get Patty away from Henry which leads to him being attacked and almost killed. He is lifted up into the air. Patty manages to encourage Henry to take back control and beat the Mindflayer by telling him she loves him. Henry manages to break through the barrier and tell her that he loves her too. This stops the situation and saves Patty's father. However, he suffered the consequences of the attack by falling through the attic floor when he was dropped, alongside being blinded and seriously injured from the fall.
When we see Mr. Newby lying on a hospital bed, he suddenly wakes up after being visited by Patty. He tells her that he was attacked by a monster and that he saw it. He goes on to describe how Henry saved him from the monster. He proceeds to draw an image of what the Mindflayer looks like, detailing the shape of a spider looking dark shadowy creature. He hands this drawing over to Patty.
After these events, this is when Virginia sends Henry away to the HNL with Brenner. Later on after Patty learns that Henry did in fact save her father, she returns to the Creel house to try and find Henry. She calls out for him and manages to communicate with him. Henry contacts her through the void and they both are able to speak to each other. Patty tries to convince him that he's still good and she believes in him. She encourages him to return home and to play alongside her, as they auditioned to do so, in Joyce's play. He commits to this and decides to return, leaving the HNL. He rejects Brenner's attempt to try and make him kill another man and leaves the lab. Brenner tries to stop him and suffers the consequences of nearly being killed.
Brenner has a significant influence over Virginia Creel during the play and provides her with medication throughout, in the form of tranquillisers. He convinces her that Henry needs help. He goes to Virginia after Henry breaks out of the lab and tells her that he escaped. Virginia is immediately worried that he is a threat. Brenner reassures her that he can control him but needs to find out where he could be. He suspects that someone is holding Henry back and asks Virginia about this and she tells him. Although before we get to this point, we need to mention the Creel massacre. This occurs before Henry sets off for the play and to see Patty. When he returns home, he reads his family's mind and sees that Virginia has been contacting Brenner and talking about how Henry has never been good and is willing to give him up for good. He does so through seeing her memories. During this moment, Henry is very angry which allows the Mindflayer to take over. During emotions of hate and fear, this is when he loses control. We can visually see Henry having some sort of fit inside his mind. On the stage of the play we see two versions of Henry to demonstrate that he is stuck in his own mind. Meanwhile, the Mindflayer is controlling his physical body and can be seen hovering over the room. After which, Virginia and Alice are killed. Henry then leaves for Hawkins High to see Patty, hoping to get there before Brenner finds him and her.
Before finding Patty, Henry runs into Joyce. who voices her suspicion that Victor is dangerous and was behind the animal killings in Hawkins. It could be argued therefore that this gave Henry the idea to frame his father. Before she explains who she is suspicious about, Henry is worried she is on to him. So the Mindflayer starts briefly coming through until she reveals that it's Victor. Due to this, Henry calms down and he takes back control.
Moving on now, Henry finds Patty on stage but is momentarily joined by Brenner. Brenner attempts to convince Henry that Patty is the thing that's holding him back from his true potential. Patty tries to convince Henry to not listen to what Brenner is saying to him. Brenner also tries convincing Patty that Henry is a killer and is dangerous, that he killed his family. Henry tries dismissing these claims but he starts to get mad and angry at Brenner. Brenner knows what he is doing and is trying to incite this anger to get him to cause a reaction. Brenner is so deranged that he wanted Henry to keep killing to get stronger powers. The Mindflayer therefore starts to takeover and Henry does his best to try and stop it. Unfortunately, it does not work and he loses control. Patty falls from the rafters after the Mindflayer forces him to push her.
Henry basically is now back at the HNL and appears to try and contact Patty through the void. This is where we then see a scene where Patty finds her mother. So she did survive, this is where it's unclear whether she tried to find Henry again or not. Maybe she can help end this story.

I wanted to tell yall my opinion on "who would Mike first come out to".
Okay so I suspect that it might be El, Nancy or Karen. The reason why I choose these 3 is bc I feel like anyone else would make that coming out scene feel "too warm" (for exp. if he came out to Joyce).
Now ofc I believe that Mike will come out to Will during the confession but I feel like we need more, colder one? I am not saying that I need Mike to be unaccepted by anyone (thought that would be interesting to watch cause then they would show both sides of coming out) I am saying that I feel like if he comes out to these characters specifically, the whole scene is gonna feel more sad ( the vibe of it). Like when they do that blue/dark sort of coloring to express that this scene is supposed to make audience more sad than happy. It's hard to explain.
Alright.
El
Tumblr media
If MIke comes out to El, it would be on accident. It would probably happen in the middle of a fight where he would spill it out and El would be shocked. Tho, she wouldn't be very confused and surprised (at least from my point of view.) She probably caught up with Mike and Will's problems and she could see the reason for it but she is still not so sure or she is in denial. I just feel like she wouldn't be all that happy, she would prob. ask him to leave her to think abt this but would be very understanding at the end.
Nancy
Tumblr media
Now this is a different story. This is where he would come out when he prepared himself. Why do I feel like Nancy is one of those people? Not just bc she is his sister so it would make sense but smt else. Something about how they see each other.
Now, we all know that siblings fight constantly. Well most of siblings. And it isn't because they hate each other or something, it's mostly just siblings thing.
Ofc, Mike and Nancy also fight like other siblings do. However, their relationship is not the best. They often don't talk with each other. Hell, they would rather get hit by a car than talk about their feelings with each other like Jonathan and Will do.
So why do I believe that Nancy would be a good option?
It is simple. I believe that Mike thinks that Nancy is pretty neutral abt stuff. Maybe he thinks that she won't even care? He probably believes that her reaction to this wouldn't impact him that much since they don't talk. But there is also a part of him that hopes that she will understand and so is probably scared.
I feel like they might try to act like Will and Jonathan which is why they will try to talk to each other. Who knows?
Karen
Tumblr media
So we know how Karen wishes that her kids talk with her( like deep talks)? She has been waiting for that for a long time now. Mike coming out to her would be a thing that would fulfill her wish. And her reassurance would mean the world to him. It would make him braver and more emotionally stronger which will make Vecna's plan harder to proceed.
One thing that makes me believe in this theory is her talk with him in s1. If you are a straight viewer you may catch this message harder but if you are a queer person, you would notice.
Karen talking about how Mike doesn't have to hide anything from her, how he can tell her anything doesn't apply to Mike being upset abt Will going missing. It also doesn't apply to El bc she didn't know abt her yet.
Others know that Mike and Will's relationship is different from the others. However, not all of them think it has to do with romance. But Karen does. She can see the difference between how Mike acts with Will versus how he is with Lucas and Dustin.
Her speech in that episode means so much to queer community bc it represents a parent who is reassuring their closeted kid that no matter who they love, they are gonna stay and love their kid the same. And if they also have a hard time accepting it themselves, their parent is there to help them.
That is that.

Making it Make Sense
Alright, I think I’m ready to make sense of the writing choices related to Steve and Nancy. Or at least make them make sense enough that I am satisfied in the break between season 4 and 5.
Disclaimer: Everything I am about to discuss is just implicit enough to leave room for the love triangle in ST5. I have no idea what the writers are intending to do. I can only take the moments they’ve given us and piece them together in a logical way. As I’ve already stated multiple times. I do not trust the writers and still do not understand why the love triangle is back and what their intentions are (in season 4 and in the end). I want to emphasize that though I believe that by the end of this season Jancy won (but barely... and they have their own personal issues to deal with because things are not 100% between them) the door for the love triangle to return is wide open if they choose to take it. And I’m not sure they even know what they want to do with the triangle at this point but I hope they do right by all characters involved. I know what that means for me... but I really hope they keep characters true to themselves.
The key to figuring out the writing choices for Steve/Nancy’s reconnection in ST4 is understanding Nancy’s motives. As a way to keep the love triangle open-ended by the end of season 4, I’ve noticed in rewatches and clip gatherings, we are never given any true insight into Nancy’s perspective on the whole Steve thing. Steve shares his dreams, Steve confesses his love and Nancy barely gets the chance to react either so we as an audience really don’t know what’s going on in her head. Even when Robin suggests Nancy and Steve getting back together, Nancy doesn’t address the Steve of it all and only comments on what’s really going on between her and Jonathan (which was fine, great even, but it didn’t really shut Steve down, y’know?)
But putting together their moments throughout the whole season, I would propose the following is happening for Nancy: she is lonely, he relationship is facing issues, mainly communication issues, that she cannot fix because she cannot get in contact which frustrates her. Steve is there and she’s always liked Steve, has been attracted to him, and enjoys his company. She has retreated to the safety of Steve before and she is doing it again this season.
I think she enjoys the attention and genuinely admires Steve (not faulting her for this, she is only human). I also think she has always felt guilty for their break up and is happy to see he is doing well now. But the second Steve confesses that he thinks they would have made it if given another chance and that she’s always been his future wife in his dreams, the whole scenario becomes real and that this whole fun, flirty thing they’ve had going on is something to him and she instantly feels remorse and possibly regret. I mean look at the following scene. This does not look like a love confession going right:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This looks like a gentle rejection before it is interrupted. Even Steve looks like he knows her feelings are not reciprocated (which could explain why he’s only mildly defeated when he sees Nancy and Jonathan’s reunion in the epilogue).
I think this is supported by the following clip at the start of the epilogue between Karen and Nancy. I love this clip because it was one of the few (if only) times this season I understood Nancy and her intentions. If my interpretation of the following is not what the writers were going for, I don’t understand this scene at all. Please let me know any alternate interpretations you have!

I think this scene depicts Nancy releasing Steve so that he can find someone who can truly love him. I like that they represent him as a comfort object (and it’s a HARE... get it? Steve “Hare”-ington?) that she falls back on (referencing Murray’s observation in season 2 where she retreats back to Steve as the comfortable option). I also like how this happens before Jonathan arrives because it shows that this decision was made because Nancy feels it is best and not because Jonathan suddenly reappeared.
And we obviously can tell where her heart truly lies once Jonathan shows up...
I still hate all of it, but this is my best shot at making it make sense.
...
TLDR: Nancy was feeling sad and lonely at the start of the season and retreated back to Steve because she admires him and has always found comfort in him when things get difficult. However, once he confesses his feelings she feels guilty for leading him on and was about to reject him before being cut off. In the end she decides to let him go and wants him to find someone who can love him in the way she cannot. However, this is all vague enough that the love triangle is definitely fair game in ST5 as Jonathan and Nancy have real issues they should be able to work out but I’m not holding my breath.

Appreciation Post to Kotaro and Arisa’s friendship bc why not?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe here’s a thought.. I love how in the translated novel I’ve read by ramirei (spoilers ahead and beyond for this now for Heart no Shucho lol), what Kotaro said was what Arisa exactly hoped someone would feel. She wanted her message to reach Karen, but even if it seemed it didn’t to Arisa’s mind, Kotaro never hesitated to tell her it reached him, and that was such a gentle and heartfelt scene to me!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tbh, I believe Kotaro would still do this for Arisa even without Ken telling him. I mean, it’s such a great AriKen story which I LOVE, but Kotaro always showed no hesitation to help her like how he never hesitated to tell her what she’s hoping for, reaching out to her the moment he saw her crying on the rooftop, and handing her a handkerchief when one of their classmates or herself (I don’t know if it was Karen or those in the earlier chapters) spilled something on her materials and Arisa was panicking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those who didn’t read the novel don’t know how Arisa went far to even consider to matchmake Koyuki and Natsuki for Kotaro lol (since she realized Koyuki’s a kind soul and thought Yuu’d be fine with his fangirls XD). I know someone thinks that she’s just indebted to him for doing something only her future bf requested (even if I think many would agree Kotaro is not willing to be bossed by anyone, and he dd it bc he knew it was the right thing to do), but I believe Arisa did everything not just out of debt; she genuinely wanted Kotaro, the only friend she had aside from Karen, and the only one who stood by her on those sad times of her life, be happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paying debt might be a factor at the beginning, but it was genuine friendship nonetheless. Isn’t being determined and genuine in making a person happy and wishing them them the best all throughout your lives considered friendship? Plus, if it was just out of debt, Arisa won’t be the captain of the KotaHina ship like how I believe Haruki co-captains NatsuYuu with Hina (I mean oh boy, Haruki helped Natsuki organized her initial confession lol. His sibling dynamic with Natsuki in the novels are so underrated too).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tbh, Arisa rocks being KotaHina’s captain lol.

Tumblr media
(haven’t read Daikirai yet since I’m still on MochiAka novel 2, but I just knew there’d be a scene like this, and I love it lol)

Tumblr media
To conclude this post, I just want to appreciate Kotaro and Arisa’s friendship. I may have never gotten a Kotaro to my Hina, but I deeply appreciate the Kotaros I have in my life to the Arisa in me. Tbh, before Hiyori, Aizo and Yujiro, Arisa and Kotaro showed that male-female friendships could really work without being romantic.  Y’all read Heart no Shucho already if you still haven’t. It’s actually my 3rd fav novel next to Sekoi and Yakimochi no Kotae bc I never expected this friendship would be so wholesome and beautiful to read. I know Hina showed kindness to Arisa and so does Ken in his indirect ways, obviously, (I love AriKen!!) but I feel like many had slipped into their minds that if Kotaro was not present and ready to give her a hand on those times, she probably would have given up before Sena’s words could reach her. Kotaro’s mere presence in her life made her not give up, and that made her so dedicated to give a hand in his times of needs as well.  Her friendship with Karen led to misunderstandings that wouldn’t be cleared until years later in High School, but she found a friend in Kotaro and that’s worth appreciating. Also, I love how Kotaro showed his chaotic side to Arisa on the latter parts of the novel lol.
It’s also worth noting how right after Hina cried on Koyuki’s departure in middle school, Arisa and Kotaro spent their time together while hoping for a better future.  (like, I always love the chapters before the epilogues lol. It’s the same for Sekoi and Yakimochi no Kotae HAHHA)
Tumblr media
y’all, thank you for reading if you survived till the end. I just love them and wanted to share my ramblings to why lol.

HEAR ME OUT
Okay, so I initially had an idea for the end of season 7 but threw it out the window due to the fact that we hardly ever get cliffhangers and with the uncertainty of renewal, there was no way in hell this would happen.
WELL, we just got season 8 confirmed so you bet your ass my theory is back in full swing and my lil delulu brain is going CRAZY.
So, picture this...
7x04-7x06 we have Buck's full Bi awakening and we are living for it. Obviously we have Madney's wedding also in full swing so things are tense for Buck and he is avoiding the hell out of Eddie just because, well, holy shit he's in love with his best friend.
So at the wedding, we have a cute lil Buck/Eddie moment and thing's are almost somewhat normal between them which Eddie is grateful for and it gives Buck the courage to confess his feelings and/or kiss Eddie.
Obviously, Eddie freaks the heck out because Buck what the hell do you mean you love me you can't love me absolutely not and he runs away from Buck in a panic.
Buck is of course heartbroken because he just destroyed his friendship with Eddie and has a complete meltdown. Eddie is avoiding him like the plague and Buck is at a loss.
In his angst era, Buck decides to speak to Bobby and takes a career break, maybe for a month or two (I don't know how career breaks for firefighters work so this may be a stretch), and says he is going to go to Italy (see what I did there?) and tells Bobby he just needs time to get his head together and figure out what (who) he truly wants.
Bobby is very worried about his son but is fully supportive and he and Hen go into full-blown planning mode to throw him a party for his last shift. Queue the entire team surprising Buck at the end of their shift with a farewell cake and banner and Athena and Karen and Chris are there and there are hugs and sadness and tears and it's all very sad.
The shift is over and Buck is in the locker room feeling all the feels when Eddie comes in and says "What, no goodbye for me?" and all Buck can say is "This hurts me, Eddie. I can't do this." and he leaves.
Eddie is in absolute DESPAIR and when he and Chris go home, he comes to realise that damnit, he can't let Buck go because he is the goddamn love of his life and he'll be damned if he lets him slip through his fingers. He grabs Chris and says "Come on, we're going to get Buck." to which Chris cheers and they get in the car.
Queue Buck about the leave his loft, turning all the lights off and looking around one last time all dramatically before picking up his bag and grabbing the door handle, only for his phone to ring.
Unknown number? Strange. He answers... "Hello?"
"Hello, Mr Buckley?"
"Yes, this is he."
"I am calling from LA memorial hospital, we have your number down as the emergency contact for Mr Edmundo Diaz. I am afraid he and his son have been in an accident."
The scene cuts to black.
*screams internally*

For our game swap: 🎬 for Dot? Your gifs reminded me how much I love her.
Also, I should really get around to actually watching the movie sometime. I've watched some clips but never the whole thing.
Thanks so much for this!! And yeah, I would definitely recommend the movie, it’s great!! 🖤🖤🖤
Tumblr media
HOW THEY’D BE INTRODUCED
I have said this before, but Dot would be introduced in the opening scene of the movie, being held in the Mexican warehouse with Hannibal. She wouldn’t say anything until after the corrupt cops had left, and after Hannibal put the firing pin back into his gun (which is really Dot’s gun), he would pass it back to her and ask her to make sure it still worked. Without even looking, Dot would shoot out all of the warehouse’s overhead lights, and her first words would be something like, “Yeah, it’s good.”
WHO THE FANDOM SHIPS THEM WITH
Mostly Murdock, but there are some people who ship her with Face and a small number who ship her with B.A. There would also probably be like, three AO3 fics shipping her with Charissa Sosa, but only about two people ship that (😅).
WHY THE FANDOM LOVES THEM
Because she’s such a sweetheart while still managing to be badass, which is so rare for women in action movies. The autistic community would also love her, because genuine neurodiverse rep basically never happens in action movies, so they would love it.
WHY THE FANDOM HATES THEM
I feel like there would definitely be some people who would feel like she was only there to provide a love interest for Murdock, or that her unfailingly sweet personality wouldn’t be realistic when compared with her line of work and the utter skill she has in her field. There would also, obviously, be the racist and sexist fanboys who would complain about her character just existing, but we do not acknowledge them (🙂).
WHAT THE CAST RELATIONSHIP WOULD BE LIKE
Karen Fukuhara is an absolute sweetheart in real life, so I feel like she would get along great with the cast! I can totally see her and Sharlto Copley making all the sappy jokes about their characters’ relationship, and giggling those adorable giggles they both have.
WHAT THEIR AUDITION SCENE WAS
Shortly after she, Hannibal, and Face break B.A. out of prison, Dot has this monologue where she talks about wanting her name cleared but not wanting to go back to the military, because as an Asian woman she had to fight tooth and nail just to get to where she was and the brass didn’t even hesitate or give them a real trial before taking it away. It’s very important and really shows more of her depth as a character, so I think that would probably be the audition scene.
DEPENDANT ON THE FANDOM, WHO THEY WOULD BE ON A PRESS TOUR/AT COMIC CON WITH
I don’t think the cast of the movie went to Comic Con, but in regular interviews, I think Karen would mainly be placed with Sharlto Copley, seeing as they’re the main love story in the movie. They would be such cute menaces in interviews together, I laugh just thinking about it.
IF THEY SPOIL THINGS
Karen would never!!
IF THE SHOW/MOVIE HAS ENDED, ARE THEY HAPPY WITH THEIR CHARACTER’S ENDING/THE ENDING AT LARGE
I feel like Karen would be pretty satisfied with Dot’s ending. By the end of the movie, Dot has gotten to confess to Murdock, and she’s been reunited with her adopted family, hopefully not to be separated again anytime soon. What’s not to be satisfied about?

Guess I'll do a quick review of Shadow as well (spoilers, duh)
I overall think out of all the recent Warriors books I've read, this one is the best. Not great by any means, but I'd say it qualifies as "pretty good". I at least had a good time reading it, which I cannot say for books like Sky, Exile From ShadowClan and a few of the new Super Editions like Graystripe's Vow, Leopardstar's Honor and Onestar's Confession. Which were all pretty garbo if you ask me and also oftentimes boring as sin.
Shadow actually had me pretty invested in the conflict. Well, part of it, anyways. The stuff with the xenophobic karens in ShadowClan, the stuff with ThunderClan's possible upcoming change in leadership and of course the whole situation in RiverClan: mega interesting and I honestly like the buildup the mystery is getting, without giving too much or too little away yet.
But I was far less interested in the "romance" between Nightheart and Sunbeam. Genuinely, I in no way feel any romantic connection between these two. There's been plenty of forced and/or rushed romances in Warriors before, but usually I feel at least somewhat of a romantic connection between two characters. Nightheart and Sunbeam meanwhile just read like friends to me, I don't get any romantic vibes off them whatsoever. Heck, even with Splashtail and Frostpaw you at least feel that Frostpaw is really into him (though Splash is probably not into her and simply using her feelings to manipulate her to his advantage). I can't say the same with Sun and Night, sorry.
That said, I do enjoy Nightheart and Frostpaw as protagonists a lot. Nightheart finally snaps out of his edgy phase and starts acting more mature which is handled pretty well, and I just feel so bad for poor Frostpaw. She's basically just a teenager who the entire Clan looked to for guidance because (supposedly) she was the only one with answers because of her connection with StarClan. Now she finally gave up her medcat apprentice position and seems MUCH happier as a warrior apprentice instead, and now she's bombared with yet another, much more vivid and real vision and Splashtail is very clearly using her feelings to try and manipulate her back into a medcat position. Give this poor girl a break!!!
As for Sunbeam, I just...do not find her all that interesting this time around. I like her as a character, don't get me wrong, but with 70-80% of her character interactions just revolving around her relationships with Lightleap, Blazefire and Nightheart so far (which does not interest me at all) she feels rather boring. I'm far more invested in her bond with Berryheart, and how, despite Sun disagreeing with her mother, she's still not immune from being manipulated by her. That's the interesting stuff, especially with Berryheart becoming a more and more prevalent antagonist as time goes on, her friend/romantic relationship stuff just feels so basic and uninteresting compared to that.
As for villains, I like that this time around the answers aren't 100% clear-cut yet. Okay, so Berryheart and her xenophobic posse are very obvious villains. They're decent but I don't find them that interesting. They're xenophobic and obnoxious, but there's not that much to them otherwise. One scene of Berryheart plotting with some RiverClan warriors doesn't suddenly make her a more interesting character; I need more than that. Tigerstar is a bit more morally gray at least in his motivations but not in his actions. He's obviously acting out of grief for the loss of his kit which was (indirectly) caused by RiverClan's lack of a leader, but his way of "helping" the Clan is um very wrong. By basically forcing his leadership onto them. There's helping and then there's forcefully taking over a Clan and acting like your original namesake, Tigerstar. And Splashtail is, well, Splashtail. He's obviously being set up as a villain but I'm not quite sure if he'll be our "main" villain for the arc like Ashfur was last time. Or Darktail in the first half of A Vision of Shadows. If we do happen to get a villain/antagonist trinity consisting of Berryheart, Splashtail and Tigerstar I think that'd be interesting, too, but honestly I feel there's more to the mysterious situation in RiverClan outside of just Splashtail having ill intentions. I feel he maybe killed Reedwhisker but I'm not certain if he's also behind things like the dogs killing Curlfeather. And Mistystar I'm still positive just died of old age, I don't think (yet) that her death was planned.
I also think that Nightheart's big turnaround from acting like an edgy lil' shit to being a more noble and mature warrior returning to ThunderClan was just a tad rushed. Remember, for the entire last two books and even parts of this one, he's mostly been just an edgelord fighting against everyone and everything in ThunderClan. Now in this book he finally matures, which is a good arc! I just...wish they took more time with it. Apparently all it takes for him to change his mind is two trips to ThunderClan (one with Dovewing and one by himself) to talk to Bramblestar and some of his other kin and then he just...quite rapidly changes his stance on his Clan. Which just doesn't feel completely earned yet because he spent SO much time in the past two books saying how much he hates it in ThunderClan. Again; this is a good character arc for him and I like seeing him mature, but it just feels a bit rushed. With hos anti-ThunderClan he was in the past two books and even early on in Shadow, I don't buy him making this giant turnaround after just two brief visits to his birthclan, sorry.
Overall still I'd consider this an enjoyable book. Solid 7/10. Nothing fantastic but for Warriors standards at least it felt decent and that aside, I wasn't bored to death which I have been with some of their recent releases (especially the ones retreading old ground like Leopardstar's and Onewhisker's SE's).

we have to be getting some kind of buddie resolution because oliver said buck realizes what he wants in a partner and relationship in the finale after breaking up with taylor, which means Eddie and Chris. Then Eddie makes a decision on his future. BTW it's not career I don't think cause Maddie's is career in a separate category. Eddie maybe comes out ot May and says he love Buck and we may be get him looking at Buck and Chris dancing or something at the wedding and this is what he wants.
Hey Nonnie
Buck realising what he wants in a partner and relationship doesn't necessarily mean that he has put two and two together and come to the realisation that that means Eddie and Chris - because he might not comprehend that what he wants isn't just something like he has with Eddie and Chris, but that he already has it. Buck may very well still be somewhat stuck in a heteronormative mindset and not yet figured out that he doesn't just want a family - but the family he's already built. It just brings him one step closer to Buddie.
I don't agree that the synopsis can't mean work related decisions because despite their inability to construct proper sentences and they have put Maddie, Eddie and May into the same sentence;
'Meanwhile, Maddie contemplates returning to work, Eddie and May make decisions on their future, as do Buck and Taylor, and the 118 gathers for a surprise wedding.'
To me that suggests that Maddie Eddie and May are making decisions about work (although as I said poor sentence construction makes that sentence read as if May and Eddie are in a relationship and making a decision on their future together - shudder - it should be 'futures' plural not singular!) and while this does echo the synopsis from 5x03 - 'Eddie must make a difficult choice about his future' putting May after Eddie rather than before says to me - work rather than romantic or personal as in Eddie returns to the 118 and active duty.
That weirdly worded sentence could also read in a way that suggests that Buck and Taylor make a decision about their jobs - I don't think it will be the case - the only way its work related with regards to them is Taylor getting a job offer elsewhere and they decide to split as a part of that because Buck doesn't want to leave LA or the 118, but that would feel unsatisfying (unless the writers have some incredible build up to it) from Bucks perspective
I really can't see Eddie coming out to May - they're friends, but not that close - we haven't seen Eddie confiding in May - he's been her confidant and has used some of his own personal experiences, but what has he actually told May about himself in the scenes we've seen? Not a lot - Eddie is very private - we've only seen him being open with Buck, Bobby and Frank - and even then we see his openness displayed at different levels so I don't think we'll be seeing any third party confessions of Eddies love for Buck - that information/ confession will be reserved for Buck alone. We might see Eddie come out as Queer to people and I do expect we'll get something Buddie related at the wedding - most likely Eddie looking at Buck with heart eyes, maybe the heart eyes being returned by Buck, but don't be disappointed if there is no big romantic moment and love confession - I don't think they're there yet and at Hen and Karens vow renewal is not the place for it to happen - the focus should quite rightly be on HenRen and any Buddie love confession should have its own moment to shine away from everything else - it is after all what we've been building to for 3+ seasons - waiting through hiatus and into season 6 will only make it even more amazing when it happens!

2023/06/24 English
2023/06/24 BGM: Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
It was a day off today. This morning I read Karen Cheung's "The Impossible City" with Blur's "Parklife". I guess that I had misunderstood about this book (or the place Hong Kong itself). TBH I had expected THE Hong Kong where people try to achieve their democracy. The place where is crowded with the atmosphere of tear gas and political demonstration. But this book doesn't show that kind of Hong Kong. I won't say that this book has no worth to be read by this fact. I have to think about this again because I could be trying to find "THE Hong Kong by various social media" and "THE Hong Kong I wanted to watch/enjoy". NO! I guess this author would say this. NO! The real Hong Kong, and the life in that town must be richer than that banal bias of mine. This book must be one of the best books I have read in this year. Yes, it is a great masterpiece. I have been attracted by her straight/honest words which describe her difficulties of life. It "knocks" my mind actually.
Influenced by that "The Impossible City", I look back to my youthful days (but not in anger). Ah, at that time I was really a idiot student. For me at that time, Damon Albarn from Blur was actually my hero. Almost everyday I had been into Blur's great albums. "Modern Life is Rubbish", "Parklife", and "The Great Escape". As you know, these are quite British albums. I can treat them as "Blue-eyed music", not any "funky/groovy ones" (of course, I welcome your different opinions!). Now I remember this... At that time, I could have these ideas in my "young and lovely" head as "Why was I born in this world as this kind of Asian one?", "Why is this town not London, Liverpool, or Manchester?", and "Heaven knows I'm miserable now"...At least, at that time I had NO interest in any funky/groovy music (Jazz, Funk, Hiphop) or world music (Reggae, Rocksteady)... I might blame myself too much. I believe that Damon Albarn could learn a lot from those sources of rich global music masterpieces.
This afternoon I went to the main house of my group home. There, I confessed about the failure of money management to the chief. I also talked about the "comfort zone". TBH I have a twisted mind so could feel comfortable if I was blamed terribly. If I am praised a lot (Ah, I can feel a lot of actual kindness from a lot of people on Discord, MeWe, and also my private life scene!), then I feel uncomfortable. I tend to think by that as "I am not such a great one". I can't accept that "praised" myself. "I must be a piece of rubbish", "I can be nothing but an idiot", and I do eat a lot or buy various things too much (my virtual self-hurt I guess). But this can't be any excuses. I want to "enjoy" those praising words... The evening I talked about this with a Russian friend of mine o WhatsApp. She taught me honestly as she had showed her braveness to attend various meeting. That's her important trial to go out of her "comfort zone"... I thought I should say farewell to my comfortable nest in my mind. I decided to go to another English meeting.
And this evening I enjoyed a presentation on ZOOM by a French translator and Rakugo (a traditional Japanese comedy) performer, Cyril Coppini. He has translated Gosyo Aoyama's popular manga "Detective Conan" from Japanese into English. He taught us how he had encountered the Japanese language. And he had learned Japanese literature and culture by ancient books, quested Rakugo's greatness, the reason why he started translating "Conan"... And at Q&A time I asked him as bravely as I could. "There are a lot of forms/styles of Japanese language. Ancient literature's one, Rakugo's traditional one, and manga also has funny one... Cyril san, what kind of Japanese language is your favorite?".  Then Cyril answered us that "I like Osaka dialect, But every Japanese form must be profound. I can't stop studying because of its depth". I thought it could be the same as my idea about learning English... Ah, today was a really grateful, happy day (Indeed I made a failure about money). About identity as Japanese, and how precious learning foreign languages are... I thought about them once again.

Billy, in show, is heavily sexualized. That, when added to his lack of non-sexual happy times on screen, and contextualized by his trauma, paints a rather bleak picture.
From his first introduction being girls staring at his ass, to the middle aged women in season 3 ogling him despite being a to-be senior in high school, Billy has been sexualized from day one. However... what else is he associated with? Basketball? Drinking? Surfing? Weightlifting? Typical "hot male" things. Being a swim coach? Average straight teen guy's fantasy. Everything he's associated with has to do with his sexualization... or his trauma.
Neil being abusive to Billy his whole life, and his mother abandoning him as a child, are the other main pieces of his character. We see this in how he fights, and how he doesn't fight. Someone mentioned the parallel of Billy hitting Steve with a plate when backed into a corner and the memory of Billy's mom hitting Neil with a plate. And we all know Max's words when threatening him with the bat are word-for-word what Niel says when abusing Billy.
With all this in mind, when do we ever see Billy really happy? Not prideful, not sexual, but really truly happy? The only real time he's happy is when we see the memory of him at the beach with his mom, and... that's it. After that, his emotions always involve anger, fear, or sexuality.
Interestingly, there are only a few scenes where he's actively being flirtatious. One is the homoerotic game-and-postgame-showers with Steve, and the other are the scenes with Karen. And only in the first one does he initiate the flirtation; Karen is the one initiating the flirting in the scenes. Which is. Rather concerning.
I don't have much tying this together. However, I find the fact that his only somewhat positive times during canon involve being sexual or angry, with the sexuality often not even being started by him, rather worrying.

Volume 2 spoilers, also kinda long.
The "confession" monologue wasn't what it seems. Although at first glance it seems that it really is a loss for byler, I'd argue that it's actually a win. Reason? The monologue is weird and ooc if it's a confession to Jane. But it makes more sense if it's a confession to Will disguised as a confession to Jane. Let's break down the scene.
It starts with Jane struggling against Henry Creel. The rest of cali crew are trying to save her, but it isn't working. Will then says, "Mike, don't stop, okay you're the heart, okay remember that, you're the heart!"
So Will tells Mike he's the heart, so he has to let his heart out. But obviously what's in his heart isn't romantic love for Jane. It's platonic love, strong platonic love, but platonic love that isn't what he think she wants. So he has to give her romantic love. I think, he's been sort of realizing that he's gotten his feelings for Will and Jane mixed up over this season. But no way is he going to say he doesn't love Jane romantically now. So, he says his feelings for Will and says them like they're feelings for Jane.
He starts off by reassuring Jane that he's there with her. And then, after a sort of pause, he blurts out he loves her. In a... rather forced way. Trust me, this isn't "I have a hard time saying I love you", this is "I have to say I love you but it's making me feel wrong." Trust me, I know the second very very well.
"I love you, I'm sorry I don't say it more, it's not because I'm scared of you, I'm not, I've never felt that way, never. But I am scared that one day you'll realize you don't need me anymore, and I thought that if I said how I felt it would somehow make that day, hurt more. But the truth is, El, I don't know how to live without you."
Did anyone else catch the glance to the side before he said "hurt more"? From where he was looking, he would have glanced at... Will. He has to look at Will to get out a confession to Jane? Hmm. And let's rephrase this part a little.
"I love you, I'm sorry I don't say it more, it's not because I'm scared of you don't love you, I'm not do, I've never always felt that way, never. But I am scared that one day you'll realize you don't need me anymore, and I thought that if I said how I felt it would somehow make that day, hurt more. But the truth is, El, I don't know how to live without you."
Just removing the obvious allusion to the milkvan fight and one or 2 other parts makes this more romantic. I.e., milkvan doesn't really fit this confession well. But also, this verson also fits byler well. The disconnect right now is that they both think the other loves someone else. And Mike doesn't know why Will is becoming more and more distant, but he's scared. He knows Will has relied on him in the past, but he's not doing that anymore, and that hurts.
And, well, this is the 80s, if a miracle happens and Will does love him back, being in a relationship would put them at more risk against homophobes. And if Mike confessed, and Will didn't love him back, there would be a chance of Mike being hated. (This wouldnt happen, but Mike doesn't know that for certain). And losing Will would be the most painful thing. So honestly, in his situation, without the foresight of us viewers, the safest thing is to lie and ignore how he loves Will.
Now, onto the very very inflammatory line, "My life started the day i met you in the woods." Now, in context of Milkvan's first meeting, yeah that wouldn't be a very good day. But if your life started the day you met someone, wouldn't saying hello, or asking to be their friend, be the best thing you've ever done. Mike's life started when he met the one he loves. But it wasn't Jane who started his life, it was Will. He's trying to say his feelings for Will and disguise them as feelings for Jane, and in the moment he's. Not really thinking about how the first meeting situations were different.
Let's ignore the shirt remark for now. "And I knew right then and there, in that moment, I loved you. And I've loved you every day since. I love you on your good days, I love you on your bad days, I love you with your powers, I love you without your powers, I love you for exactly who you are. You're my superhero! And, I can't lose you!"
Interesting word choice here. You love her without her powers, yet she's your "superhero". Once again, we have him idealizing her for her powers, regardless of what else he is saying. And actually, has he always loved her every day since? Did he love her when Will's fake body was found and he yelled at her "What's wrong with you?" twice? Did he love her when he called her a weapon to fight against the monsters? Did he love her in season 3 when he wasn't upset about the breakup, just offended?
However, if we ignore the bits about powers, this does hold true about Will. He loves Will so much he does everything in his power to save him from the monsters again and again. He loves Will when they're playing D&D together, he loves Will when he's upset over Mike's bullshit, he loves Will so much he refuses to believe he's dead when he has pretty much no evidence he's alive, he loves Will so much he can't lose him. He loves Will for exactly who he is, and is only able to "be in love" with Jane when he puts her on a pedestal.
"You can do anything! You can fly, you can move mountains, I really believe that, I really do! But right now, you just have to fight, okay?" More superhero, and the heart of the confession. He needs her to fight on and keep living, he's saying what he has to to keep her alive and fighting.
Now, this is all well and good, but where is the proof this is the angle we should be looking at? Because this isn't the first scene byler has been hidden by mileven. When Will showed the painting, he confessed his own feelings to Mike but pretended it was Jane's feelings. Who says that Mike can't be confessing to Will, but pretending he's confessing to Jane? This only adds to the numerous times in past seasons Mike has, in a way, used Jane as a surrogate for Will. And I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it's what's been happening.
Essentially, while the confession may appear to be pro mileven, it's actually pro byler. Do not lose hope everyone!

My #1 post of 2022
Hot take but s3-s4 mike isn't different from s1-s2 mike. Y'all just ignored the signs of mental illness until it started affecting people other then himself. He threw himself into the quarry fully expecting to die in season 1, he was explicitly self-destructing in season 2 with the breaking rules, he just went the natural progression of that behavior with breaking his relationships in seasons 3-4.

Hi! Lately I was watching a lot of Brucas videos and read a bunch of comments mentioning how heartbroken Brooke was in there second time breaking up but no one ever mentions Lucas being heartbroken over it, on the contrary being angry at him (which I see why but he didn't *technically* cheated). Do you think, like Brooke, the break up had a lot of impact on him? Because for him the break up was out of nowhere (hence the "I'm sorry" response). Like he choose Peyton (after Brooke and bunch of people were pushing him to), do you think it was caused by the acceptance of loosing Brooke and needing someone instead of actually having the one he wants? Cause I read somewhere that once he got together with Peyton, he tried to convince her to sleep with him compared to giving Brooke the time she needs until she's ready. And the fact that he was trying to win Brooke back an episode earlier, it felt like he just needed someone that loves him (he just lost Keith and now Brooke). Like even in season 6 (Leyton season), I felt off with their scenes (and I was trying to be a leyton fan back then by watching their scenes, I didn't really know brucas), I always felt like he was trying to force himself to be happy instead of actually being happy (like I genuinely only liked 1 scenes of theirs when I was a fan of them). And now watching the few scenes of brucas in season 6 and even season 5, I felt a lot more emotions coming from him then with Peyton, like he had a sense of longing.
Also the fact that Lucas doesn't even know that Brooke still loves him because he thinks that she stopped loving him (he asked Karen how she stopped loving Dan when she knew he didn't love her anymore). Do you think if he found out the real reason why Brooke broke up with him (insecurity about Peyton's confession and that Lucas would leave her) and the fact that she never stopped loving him, he would try to get back together with her? I feel like he would have been mad at Peyton since he did talk to her about it in the library after the shooting (3x17) and made it clear that he loves her but that he is in love with Brooke. Basically, telling her "even if you love me, I am in love with Brooke and nothing will happen between us".
Sorry that this is a long ask, I am trying to rationalize the shitty writing even though I know that the Lucas and Brooke from season 3 would have never given each other up, if the writing were consistent.
The thing about the devolution of romantic Brucas is that the writing is inconsistent with what they spent two seasons constructing absolutely but I’m not going to come up with my own motivations for characters to explain that away? But what I can talk about is how in season 5 the show actually spends more time and effort showing an emotional connection in scene between Brooke and Lucas and constructs an adult relationship for them that also calls back to established dynamics from previous seasons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
while the “destined-for-each-other-soulmate-and-the-boy-who-saw-the-comet-once-in-a-lifetime-transcendental” relationship isn’t nearly as well constructed or written, it’s just everyone talking about how much they belong together
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
instead of showing us why and how and then excusing their lack of time together as too much angst about still being in love and too much pain about the past
Tumblr media
which is all they talk about
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
instead of showing what this connection is exactly and how it’s evolved but the sentiment - whatever it is because like I’ve mentioned in previous posts even in season 1, they don’t actually do a good job in explaining why their connection is unique -- stayed true
Tumblr media Tumblr media
full post: https://zalrb.tumblr.com/post/692595632653975552/leyton-literally-has-nothing-going-for-them-not
like considering that the show has always used their tropes as reason enough to explain their “connection”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it isn’t earned to me that in season 5 Peyton saying “your art matters to me” is the only thing needed for Lucas to start writing his second book.
And I can talk about how considering the finale ends with a cliffhanger i.e. who is Lucas calling at the airport
Tumblr media
and then the season 6 premiere begins with him thinking of different married life scenarios with each woman, we are supposed to be reading into things with their dynamic in season 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and how as much time is dedicated to Peyton describing how much she loves Lucas and everyone telling Lucas how much he loves Peyton, there’s also a lot of dialogue about paths not taken, life not being the way you thought, adulthood being messy, letting go of being kids/teens, reimagining your life and so him not choosing Peyton wouldn’t have been out of the blue and would have kept in line with that theme
but things like this
do you think it was caused by the acceptance of loosing Brooke and needing someone instead of actually having the one he wants?
that's us giving motivations for Lucas to make sense of writing
and this
I always felt like he was trying to force himself to be happy instead of actually being happy (like I genuinely only liked 1 scenes of theirs when I was a fan of them). And now watching the few scenes of brucas in season 6 and even season 5, I felt a lot more emotions coming from him then with Peyton, like he had a sense of longing.
is chemistry. I always kind of laugh when people say that the romantic chemistry between Chad and Sophia left after season 2 or 3 because I'm like, did it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
or are you just letting the off-set drama affect the way you look at them? Like I’ve mentioned in the past, one of my problems with Lucas and Peyton is how devoid they are:
Leyton reminds me of this quote
Tumblr media
[“What is it with you two, it’s like flirting but sexless”]
but instead of flirting and sex, it’s like affection and any real warmth or passion or actual feeling.
[...] affectionate Leyton scenes always felt put on, like look we’re affectionate and in love, instead of it being exuded
so yeah, it looks like he’s forcing himself to be happy because Chad is trying to get to that place and he’s playing at that, he’s not just in it
So, sorry if that didn’t answer your ask :)

It’s finally canon: Noah confirms Will is gay and in love with Mike.
Spoilers -- confirmed by Noah (Will):.                                                               .                                                            .                                                              .                                                               .                                                                 Noah makes it clear and official about Will: "He is gay and he does love Mike." Not only that, but the beautiful scene in which Jonathan offers his brother unconditional love without naming why, but clearly related to the concerned look in his eyes during Will's veiled expression of his own feelings under the cloak of their being El's, was not in the original script. It was beautifully done. I would have loved to have someone like that in my life as a kid (though I was out to some of my friends). They collectively decided that there needed to be some follow-up to that. It honestly redeemed Jonathan to me, who otherwise was almost an afterthought this season. It also sounds to me like Season 5 will address Will's feelings as well as centralizing his ongoing connection to Vecna. I really hypothesize that Will will be the key to defeating Vecna. He was allowed to live longer than anyone else in the Upside Down; as well as allowed to live through having been bodily invaded by the Mind Flayer particles; there must be a reason he's unique in that regard. I think he might pull something like Max did and beckon Vecna to get close to him and render him vulnerable and then sacrifice himself to save Mike. Think back to a couple key elements from Season 1's D & D game. Will had to choose between protecting himself with a protection spell and protecting the party with a fireball, and he prioritized the party over himself. And his dice fell on the floor, and they were interrupted by Karen, so the game had to end prematurely. Lucas advised that Will's role of 7 didn't count since Mike didn't see it, but Will again prioritized Mike over his own standing to confess to Mike that he lost, allowing for the eerily portentious line, "The Demogorgon, it got me." The Duffers have said that Season 5 would circle back to Season 1. I think long-standing clues will come to fruition and that Will will be the key to everything, as much as El. As a side note, I've tried Noah's tbh, and it's scrumptious. I've been through nearly a whole jar in just 3 days. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/stranger-things-noah-schnapp-will-byers-gay-doja-cat-1235317378/

Stranger things & Door symbolism (narrative analysis)
We see doors have a lot of symbolism and different meanings but to a certain extent it’s about respecting/not respecting boundaries &privacy, and being open or closed to others emotionally.
In s2 Max picks the door of the av club (trying to easedrop on the boys)-and it goes wrong (and causes dart to escape). Similarly, in s1 Karen picks Nancy’s bedroom door lock (and Nancy does not open up to her emotionally despite Karen saying “you can talk to me”). BUT in s3, we see Karen contemplating picking Nancy’s door again-and right after she decides not to try and pick the lock and respect Nancy’s boundaries (Nancy finally opens up the door and herself emotionally to Karen). We even  see Jonathan in s1 pick Lonnie’s car door (which we know is not a healthy dynamic).
Tumblr media
Nancy also tries telling Jonathan not to break into Lonnie’s car-similar to Jonathan trying to convince Nancy (in s3e3) not to break into mrs. Drsicol’s via opening the front door.
Tumblr media
We also see because jonathan doesn’t respect Lonnie (can’t blame him). So,Jonathan walks in uninvited through Lonnie’s front door -to investigate-similar to what Nancy did to mrs. Driscoll in s3 . These prior examples are also similar to El  breaking into Heather’s house  by using her telekenesis to unlock the front door (for her and Max’s investigation) . Or doing the same thing to Becky in s2 (for her solo investigation ). Why we have a shot of just El, Nancy, and Jonathan peaking through the doorway.
Tumblr media
El unlocking latches also mirrors how the demogorgan ALSO used telekenesis to unlock the front door latch of Will’s house .
Tumblr media
In fact flayed Bruce attacking j*ncy in s3, mirrors Will first being attacked by the demogorgan in s1. Jonathan & Will both lock the doors- than Nancy & Will try calling for help- but the supernatural creature unlocks their latches and both Nancy & Will drop the phones because of this.
Tumblr media
we also see through every season-given El’s upbringing- El doesn’t respect  boundaries with doors -since she never received it with Brenner (who would come into room whenever he pleased/closed the door and threw her in solitary) .in s2-3 she uses her powers to pick/UNLOCK doors -to open them . And in s1 she used her powers to LOCK a door- and forcibly CLOSE the door to trap the boys in the room  (akin to the closed door in solitary).
This scene directly contrasts an earlier scene of Mike respecting El wanting the door open -by having El later NOT respect the boys’ desire for the door to be open . Mike asks if she wants the door closed and she says “no” so he lets it be open. When Lucas tries to open the closed door- she closes it and says “no”. (she had other in universe reasons for doing this- but this scene is later also paralleled to Hopper in s3 locking Mike in the car against his will, when he tried leaving. Similar to el closing the door on Lucas in s1 when he tried leaving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In s1 (with El’s ptsd and) with El not understand privacy- she wants her door open . But in s2 when wanting privacy she closes her bedroom door (as Hopper demands she open it, and she cries). in s3 she also closes her door (now wanting privacy) when kissing Mike/ being on the phone with Mike/ hanging with Max ( and Hopper again yells at her to open the closed door).  Max even criticizes Hopper by saying   “do you knock? JEEZE”And in s3 flayed Billy yells at El and co to “OPEN the g*ddamn door”. In s2/3 we also see Hopper yell for el/Murray to ‘OPEN the damn door’  (despite murray having a “keep door CLOSED”sign).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*flayed-Billy also smashes the glass on the door to try and unlock the door-similar to flayed Bruce at the hospital.
And In s2 we see Neil tell Billy to  “open the door” . In fact the first word uttered after the door is opened, is by Billy -who says “what’s wrong?”. The same thing occurs when Hopper in s3 says to “open the door” -the door opens and Mike says  “what’s wrong?” (as another parallel) .
Tumblr media
The Byers also in opposition to this, respect doors/boundaries of Will’s:
Will (similar to Muray’s sign) has a “no trespassing” sign on his front door in s1 (also akin to the one at Hawkins’s lab). And when Will rides by the Hawkins sign- what happens, he’s chased by the demogorgan. But Jonathan and joyce respect Will’s sign/boundaries- Jonathan knocking on Will’s DOOR in s2 before entering & Joyce ringing castle byer’s DOORbell (and getting verbal permission) before entering in s1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, Jonathan doesn’t respect Lonnie :
so walks in uninvited through the door ,break into Lonnie’s car, and opens Lonnie’s trunk (door) without permission. later jonathan gets angry the cops/ Hopper searched his trunk (without permission) . Sort of matching his later hypocrisy of being ok to break into Lonnie’s car but not mrs. driscoll’s house.
Tumblr media
of course - this is because Lonnie doesn’t respect jonathan’s boundaries. again- the demogorgan is called “the deep father” in d&d. And a light-bulb is shown in Lonnie’s shed when it attacks Will. So we see Lonnie behind an open door (of Jonathan’s room) and a single lightbulb. A single red light bulb is shown -when Jonathan doesn’t respect others boundaries and develops photos. Later when the demogorgan is in Jonathan’s house- Jonathan hides in Will’s room and the ‘keep trespassing’ sign FALLS OFF the door - when the demogorgan comes near. And again we had a shot of Lonnie next to the ‘no trespassing sign’ too.
Tumblr media
So how does this relate to romance?  Or the supernatural?
For romance
Well what does Nancy do in s3 (unlike Karen in s3)? Well she not once, not twice but 3 times- opens jonathan’s door (despite the sign saying “please,do not  enter” (when red light is on). which is similar to Will’s “no trespassing “ /murray’s “keep door closed” sign). This is despite jonathan telling her not to-over and over. We see the first time she enters and he tells her this- she says “sorry”, but after she rolls her eyes  (and than later she does it 2 more times-showing she’s not actually sorry). It shows a lack of respect for her partner and his photography (light destroys his photos). This is similar to Jonathan busting into Lonnie’s. Or El -not respecting doors in every season (and spying on her bf who in s3 was not happy about this).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is one of the reasons j*ncy & m*leven were (verbally) paralleled specifically in s3 .Both pairings have no trust in boundaries/privacy- Jonathan taking those pics in s1 vi*lated Nancy’s boundaries/privacy, Nancy in s3 ruins jonathan’s photos while disrespecting his boundaries,El spies on Mike in s2-3 and says she makes her own rules-and doesn’t care if it made Mike uncomfortable.
We even have in s3e3-nancy & El break into people’s houses via the front door (to show how similar they are).
This also correlates to my other post- where I talked about the theme of spying on love interests being done by many characters too (Jonathan to Nancy in s1,s2 lucas spying on Max, max on lucas in s3, steve and rando-girl who rejected him in s3. El in s2-3 to Mike. And  on the nonromantic end -the mf /the us gov spying on our heroes, El in s1 being trained to be a spy, karen spying on Mike in s3 via phones, similar to how the government agents in s1 monitored phone calls, etc. The snowball even had  l*max/ m*leven (who that season spied on eachother ) dance to a song about a st*lking ex- while the spying mf watched them as well).
Also as another romantic contrast to doors in s3:
Mike throws El in his closet (gay ref) and closes the door (to his real emotions ). As Karen says to Mike “talk to me’ about Will  (similar to Karen saying to Nancy  “talk to me” in s1 ) .And she says to Mike “I never want you to HIDE anything from me.” (which he literally is doing).
Similar to Nancy ins1 who’s door was closed (to symbolize being emotionally closed off from her mom -it signifies he wouldn’t open up to Karen in s1 about Will (cause he’s too occupied CLOSING his CLOSET door for EL- and pretending to be straight).
Than in s3e1 during m*leven kiss it pans to a the rainbow drawing (which says Mike) & a drawing of Will the wise as the lyrics “just a little more time will open closing doors”plays. After this, at Will’s house in s3e1 ( while Will claims he won’t fall in love) you hear the lyrics in the back ironically  play  “Love that was new to you-you open up the door.” Like - go back to episode 1 -it’s true. After Joyce says ‘ok;- the song gets much louder just for the lyric “you open up the door”.XD I’m not making this sh*t up (they purposely didn’t subtitle the segment panned to Will but it’s clear as day) ! The other song Mike kisses El to in ep 1 is ‘can’t fight this feeling’ (which is about a guy afraid to tell his friend of many years that he loves them-but who is afraid to do so and ruin their platonic relationship- which doesn’t fit m*leven who kissed in less than a week . the song lyric also has the phrase “if i have to ...come crashing through your door, baby I can’t fight this feeling anymore.” XD Than after “time” (3 months/last ep of s3) El kisses Mike- infront of WILL’S OPEN CLOSET door, in Will’s room, while El holds Will’s bear that comes between them. El (similar to Karen’s closet scene) even tries to get Mike to talk about his “feelings” which he avoids doing with El (/ Karen). As mike doesn’t open up to El emotionally he also doesn’t reciprocate the kiss- or say i love you back-and the same song (’the first i love you’) which played when, in s3 ,Robin rejected steve cause she’s gay- plays. And both stobin/mileven s3 confessions also heavily parallel . I mean coming out as gay used to be called “coming out of the closet”...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The supernatural: Doors & upsidedown- “ A doorway between worlds”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Murray ,in s3, (translating for Alexi) calls the gate a “doorway between worlds”. While Mr clarke also calls it a “doorway” and discusses Hugh everete’s “many worlds” theory. So later when NOT respecting Mr.clarke’s boundaries and interrupting his date - Dustin says about the supernatural/deprivation tank “why are you keeping this curiosity door LOCKED?” We also see on the st soundtrack -the song playing while alexi is explaining the upsidedown - is called “the door is opening”. And @ghostgirlinsatin mentioned this detail after I orginally posted this-when alexi runs away ‘neutron dance ‘ plays and the lyric is “I’ll just stay behind this LOCKED door.”
Tumblr media
We see mr clarke stab a pencil into a plate and Alexi stab a straw into a box to illustrate this doorway. Along with Lonnie hammering a nail into a wall in an attempt to close a open door (and saying someone should be held accountable for what happened to Will). it transitions from Lonnie repeatedly hitting the nail with a hammer to Mike stabbing a plate with a pencil -like mr clarke -and explaining how Will got to the upsidedown. Because ironically- Lonnie is the cause of what happened to Will (and should be held accountable). gif visuals-here.
If you’ve read my  ‘crashcourse of evidence for Will creating the upsidedown/mf” or the longer version called the “did theory” you generally know where this is going.
Like Dustin said- the upsidedown is a “alternate dimension” a “dark echo of our world.”
Which I believe Will created based on suppressed memories. A few things appear to be triggers-bathtubs, clowns, and slamming doors. When Will first sees the upsidedown in s2- the arcade door slams open (making Will jump). And later when first seeing the mf (his front door opens by itself-similar to the demogorgan opening the door in s1). In s3 when Billy yells to open the door- Will senses the mf (and touches the back of the neck-which a season prior was associated with memories).
I think the door imagery (to some extent) represents Lonnie coming home and slamming/unlocking the front door. in s1 when Hopper knocks at Joyce’s door aggressively (she says ‘go away lonnie’). Demogorgan in d&d also means ‘deep father’ & Nancy says the demogorgan is like a “lion” (lonnie’s name means lion). And just all the other connections to the demogorgan and Lonnie I talked about in my ‘crashcourse post’ (baseball, hunting, lights, etc). And the fact Billy and el (who are heavily paralleled to Will) also have Dads yelling to “open the door” is  suspicious too.  I mean Neil calls his son William a “f*g”, and makes him play baseball -just like Lonnie did to Will. And Neil also yells for William (Billy) to open his door, before hurting him. So I could see  Lonnie doing that to Will in the past ...
We even have El see a red door- while in the void
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heck- in s2 , Dr owens said Will’s anniversary affect would make him remember tra*matic memories and OPEN his neurological flood GATES(  and these openings to the upsidedown are also called GATES and DOORS)!
