I thought Tae is the most popular member until his solo releases. He literally has the richest fanbases. They always pull the most expensive birthday projects for him. Tae also has the most liked photos on ig, most followers, most streamed fancams, etc., but i guess most of his stans are just there for the visuals. I thought he could easily accumulate huge streams, but despite the excuse of only being able to prepare for 2 days, I thought he could’ve done better. I’m a Tae stan and I’ve been streaming nonstop since the release of his first song, so I wonder where are his others stans are. He couldn’t even stay at number 1 on US itunes. His fanbases have been saving up since years ago, but I guess there are just no demands. His album and songs have been one of the most anticipated, and though they’re not gp-friendly, with his fanbase, I’m surprised he did not pull such huge numbers. It’s so disappointing to say the least. I want him to achieve great numbers, too. 🥺 I read a blog post earlier that his dating rumor has affected him especially in SK. His Kfans are not interested in him anymore. I dunno. It’s just so disheartening coz he prepared so much for this. 😣
Hi anon!
Quality above quantity.
What I don’t really understand is that in the time leading up towards Tae releasing music there has been so much talk about his music probably not being mainstream and that it will show in his numbers. People expected that, and now that it’s here people are talking about him as if he’s failing somehow. I really hope Tae does not see these conversations or that he tunes them out, because I think those things will hurt him. It ties his succes to sales, while the actual appreciation of fans is in how they react to the actual content. And from what I’ve seen is that it’s being received great.
I also think people don’t actually understand that these songs are (imo) not intended to reach huge numbers. They came out too close to each other for that, and the promo is also not been like that. I feel this period is to set the mood. I know it’s new and people aren’t used to it, but I really wish they would show excitement in stead of making this situation negative.

On Heteronormativity and the JK 2019 Rumors
I finally found the source of some of the nervousness/anxiety I’ve been seeing in asks lately about JK and the tattooist, and I have some thoughts.
First: I don’t want to actually talk about that rumor. It’s just rehashing old ground, and I don’t think there’s any new insight to gain. No matter what happened, we know it significantly impacted JK in a negative way, and it’s best left to the past.
Second: This isn’t a response to a specific blogger. I read the original post and didn’t have an issue with it. Instead I’m just taking an opportunity to use this topic as a way to talk about something that comes up a lot: heteronormativity.
The general opinion circling is that many people in SK and a few other countries in East Asia assume that JK must have been dating the tattooist with whom he was photographed.
Why? Because of the physical affection he showed her.
Note that I have no way to prove this is true; I wouldn’t know where to look to get a temperature on what K-ARMY thinks. But we do know that the photos caused a huge stir when they came out, and many people speculated that JK was romantically linked with this person.
I think this emphasizes something that I’ve also seen reflected in kdramas and other media: that physical affection between men and women is considered significant and highly meaningful when it happens.
This is obviously not specific to South Korea – touch is considered a major part of romantic relationships just about everywhere. But considering the location and nationality of BTS, how it’s viewed in SK is particularly relevant.
It doesn’t surprise me, then, that such behavior would be viewed as suspicious. That’s unfair in itself – men and women can be friends, and be physically affectionate, and have it not mean anything more than that. It’s an imposed societal perception, and those are often inaccurate and constricting.
But here’s the interesting thing: we know JM and JK (and all the members of BTS) have shown a good deal more physical affection than the little we saw in those photos. We know skinship and closeness are a part of their bond. We have also seen KM test the bounds of physical affection in friendship, many times. But for some reason, that’s never really considered suspicious (except for a subset of the fandom, and we’re often called delulu for thinking such things).
The assumption that this behavior means nothing between two men but is clear evidence of a relationship between a man and a woman is heteronormativity.
To be clear, heteronormativity isn’t just a problem in any one place. For example, American entertainer JoJo Siwa recently posted a video of herself lip-syncing to a specific line in Lady Gaga’s song Born This Way (“No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgender life…”) while wearing rainbows. Many people took it as a signal that she was LGBTQ, but there was pushback against speculating about her LGBTQ status – even though speculation was driven by a seemingly intentional statement.
There were efforts to minimize the message that she sent (“What if she was just singing along? What if the lyrics were a coincidence?” Sound familiar?). She cleared all the ruckus up pretty quickly by posting a photo of herself wearing a “Best Gay Cousin Ever” t-shirt a day or two later. LOL. Way to go, JoJo. And welcome!
Why do I bring this up? Because this was also a case of heteronormativity. It’s very likely that, prior to her coming out, many people assumed JoJo Siwa was straight – including the parents of her followers. Speculating about her sexuality in that case wouldn’t be viewed as negative, because straight is considered the norm. But suddenly, when she gives a clear indication that she is a part of the LGBTQ community, it’s wrong to think that she meant what she meant. Because straight is the default, and queer is the deviation.
South Korea is more conservative and hasn’t made as many advances in LGBTQ rights. As such, they tend to have closer and more physically affectionate friendships with people of the same sex – because queerness isn’t assumed in the same way it is in Westernized societies.
Even so, kmedia makes it clear that certain things – hand-holding, hugs, prolonged contact – can be considered significant and romantic depending on the context. It’s not as if those gestures never hold any romantic weight – they do. The assumption that JK must be dating someone he hugged demonstrates that.
So, if someone is queer in South Korea, in stands to reason that those things would still be meaningful and significant in a romantic way. It’s just not as visible, because queer relationships aren’t considered possible or acceptable.
Not everything should be explained away as skinship – that would be erasure. For that matter, not every touch or glance between a man and woman should spark dating rumors, either. That response comes from the societal expectation of how these couples should behave – not the inherent value or meaning of the action itself.
It’s always been interesting to me that two opposite sex idols can have very minimal interaction and be assumed to be dating – while idols of the same sex can be basically all over each other with no second thoughts.
At the end of the day, that just comes down to heteronormativity.

Heyy if you’re still taking requests can you do one with grayson based off of the prom episode from friends? It’s basically like gray getting ready to be her surprise date to prom because he thought her date bailed but at the last minute he showed up and she left w him. she never knew and only finally found out through watching the old home videos together & they finally get together. sorryyy this was so long if u want u can watch a clip of that eps on youtube. thank you and love your writings!!
I changed this up a tiny bit but I hope you enjoy!
A week before prom your boyfriend found it appropriate to break up with you because he wanted someone else. You had coordinated your dress with his tux, you were supposed to go with his friends, spend the night at their after prom. You had no idea what to do.
Ethan, one of your good friends, had an amazing idea. You see, Grayson had been pining over you since you were all kids. You had grown up with them because your parents were friends. You ran in different crowds at school, though. So Grayson never really felt like he had the opportunity to ask you out, too scared you wouldn’t want to date him because you and your friends really only dated the guys you were friends with (messy, but not surprising).
This was his chance, though. You had told Ethan it would be humiliating to show up alone. Especially when your ex had told you he was bringing the other girl he was into.
However, Ethan is shit at planning, and forgot to tell Grayson of this idea until the morning of prom. They were hopeful, though. Grayson even managed to go out and get a new tie to match the color of your dress. Ethan had convinced you to come to their pre prom, and that you could hang out with them and that their friends were super cool with it.
So that’s what you did. And when you got there, everyone was so nice which you were grateful for because both Ethan and Grayson were out of sight, leaving you to manage yourself around their friends group. You had even found one of their friends who had also recently been dumped and was there alone. It was nice to talk to someone who was in a similar situation to you, and you both decided that you could be each other’s dates because fuck men. You didn’t need them, right?
“E! Guess what!” You call when you finally see both of the twins exiting the house, Ethan with a camera in order to catch what he thought would be the beginning of the rest of Grayson’s life. They were both convinced you were soulmates.
“What?” He asks, the smile evident in his voice even though you couldn’t see it due to the camera blocking his face.
“Kayla and I are going together now! We decided we don’t need men to enjoy our last prom ever, if anything they’d probably ruin the fun.” You both giggle, not noticing the twins immediately stopping.
It was nice to see you smiling and laughing even though it was only this morning you were still crying about your ex. Grayson didn’t want to ruin that, he couldn’t. Your happiness was more important than anything.
Ethan turned the camera off, his shoulders slumping. He grabbed Grayson by the back of his neck, patting him. “One day.”
***
4 years later
You were roaming around your backyard, friends and family surrounding you as you celebrated your graduation from college. You were talking with your aunt when you noticed the twins walk past your gate, approaching the table with the food immediately. You excused yourself from your conversation, walking over to them.
“Look what the fucking cat dragged in,” you tease, the smile on your face making the words even lighter.
You weren’t sure they were even gonna come when you sent them the invite via facebook. They’d become YouTube stars, moved to LA after high school, and seemed to never look back. You saw them no more than twice a year when you both happened to be back in your hometown, and it would be at family dinners so everything remained pretty tame.
“Wouldn’t miss it for anything, y/n. This is big, we’re proud,” Ethan responds, his arms wrapping around your shoulders. He swayed you side to side, the happiness of being together again overwhelming the both of you. It was easy to forget how much you missed them until you got to hang out with them again.
When you pulled away, Grayson was right there, the smile on his face so familiar it made you shiver. There were a lot of things that reminded you of home, but that smile always brought about the upmost comfort.
The thing is, you had liked Grayson for just as long as he liked you. But you knew he was way too cool to pursue, and that only heightened once he went to LA. They didn’t tell you much about their dating lives when you would text and call, but you knew they weren’t virgins by any means. You just didn’t want to know what types of girls he was going after out there, because they would probably make you pale in comparison.
The feeling of his hug pulls you from your thoughts. All of a sudden you were consumed by all things Grayson and everything felt right. The anxiety you felt about this day left you, and you were finally able to just relax. No worries about post grad situations, jobs, grad school, none of it. You just stood there and soaked it in until you knew you had been hanging onto him too long before pulling back. He only let you back away a little, though, his hands finding their place on your elbows. You let him keep you close, your gaze stuck on his.
“Hey,” he breathes out, almost like he couldn’t believe you were truly in front of him, even after all those years.
Ethan had long since become entranced in the buffet again, leaving you and Grayson to chat. “Hi.”
“How are you, how is everything? I mean you graduated so you have to be doing alright. I’m so proud, by the way, this is a really big deal. I got you something,” he rambles, reaching into his back pocket.
“Gray, I don’t need anything from you guys, you didn’t have to.” Your cheeks heat up as he pulls out an envelope, handling it to you.
“It’s time sensitive, so you gotta open it before like 8 tonight,” he chuckles, your hands bringing the envelope to your chest.
“Thank you, I’ll make sure it’s the first one I open.”
The two of you stand there smiling at each other for a moment, appreciating that you’re really back together. Grayson felt like he did all of his childhood; happy, excited, and nervous. Really nervous. He didn’t want to be the first one to speak again because he knew he wouldn’t be able to shut up again.
Before you could decide to say anything either, someone is calling your name. You turn your head to see some of your other family had just arrived. You turn back to Grayson, a sheepish smile on your lips.
“Sorry I gotta-”
“Yeah, yeah of course. Go soak up all the congratulations, you’ve earned it all.” He pats your shoulders before going to find Ethan.
The rest of the day goes as planned, everyone coming and going to say their congrats. You didn’t get to spend any more time with the twins, but they found themselves catching up with some other high school friends who had been able to come.
That night, you took a shower but reminded yourself of what Grayson told you earlier. When you got out, it was 7:30. You quickly got dressed in casual clothes, going downstairs to open the card from them.
Hey y/n,
Congrats! We’re both so proud of everything you’ve accomplished these past four years and are so excited to see where you go in the next four and beyond. We decided instead of a conventional gift, we wanted to do something a bit more personal. Come to ours at 8:30.
Love,
Grayson and Ethan,
p.s. don’t call or text asking for hints, we refuse to break
You giggle at the note at the end. You felt butterflies immediately erupt in your stomach, recognizing the handwriting as Grayson’s. You had no idea what they had in store for you, but you couldn’t wait.
By the time 8:30 rolled around, you were itching to know what was up. You were pulling down their long driveway, trying to collect yourself so you wouldn’t seem too on edge. Grayson was always really good at reading you, so you knew your efforts were fruitless but you wanted to try anyways.
Once you parked and texted them that you were there, you got out and walked to the door. Before you had even reached the welcome mat, the door swung open and Grayson with his signature smile stood there, the excitement evident in his eyes.
“Hey y/n.”
“Hey.” You have a grin to match his, his happiness fueling yours. It was impossible to be sad when he was so happy.
“Let me show you your present.” He holds his hand out to you, and you graciously accept despite the fact he will definitely be able to tell your palms were a bit clammy. You hoped he’d brush it off as the summer heat, but you both new the nerves were eating away at you slowly.
He leads you out to their backyard, where there were three chairs set up in front of what looked like a huge movie screen.
“Gray, what’s-”
“We put together a video for you. Or us, I guess. It’s just all our old stupid videos we made from growing up edited together into the story of Grayson, Ethan, and y/n.”
You stopped walking, tears immediately pricking the corners of your eyes. No one had gotten you such a personal gift. I mean, of course you appreciated all the money especially as a college grad, but this was something that would be able to last forever.
Ethan walked out past you, a big bowl of popcorn in his hands. “Ready?” He asks casually, but the grin of his face says he has other intentions. He seems more excited for this than you and Grayson.
“Yeah,” you croak out, still emotional but now excited to see what they had whipped up. You all sit in your seats, excitement radiating from them and all different emotions coming from you. This definitely wasn’t what you were expecting.
Once they start the video, you’re quickly enthralled in remembering your past, the memories from growing up with them flooding in with every new video they included. All the way from your first time trick or treating together, to the skits you would put together when your families would have dinner parties, to the days on the beach when you went away for the weekend with them. It made you feel light inside, like there was nothing to worry about again.
All of a sudden there’s a clip the starts with Grayson’s feet in his dress shoes, and it soon pans out to capture his entire outfit. The outfit he wore to your senior prom.
“Excited?” Ethan asks from behind the camera as Grayson adjusts his tie and smooths his suit.
“Terrified,” he mumbles back, his hands visibly shaking.
“Dude, she just got dumped and you get to be the hero who swoops in, saves prom, and promises to love her forever,” Ethan jokes, but there’s not even a hint of a smile from Grayson.
“I can’t come off that strong, she has no idea I love her. I just gotta act as normal as possible.” The nerves are clear in his voice as he continues to speak, checking his hair in the mirror.
“Dude, I saw her walk down the driveway like ten minutes ago, we gotta go. Got the flower thing?” Ethan asks.
“Yeah, let’s go,” Grayson says, walking out of the house in front of Ethan and the camera.
“E! Guess what?” The camera moves to show you and Kayla, smiling and giggling together.
“What?” His voice booms from right behind the microphone.
“Kayla and I are going together now! We decided we don’t need men to enjoy our last prom ever, if anything they’d probably ruin the fun.” The camera catches the two of you laughing together, almost totally ignoring the boys.
The next clip begins, but you have long stopped paying attention. Grayson loved you in high school? He was going to ask you to prom because of your shit ex trying to ruin it for you? And he never told you this whole time?
The last few videos finish and the screen goes black.
“So?” Ethan asks as soon as it’s over, his head turning to you. You sat there, mouth open, eyes on the blank screen unable to speak. “That bad, huh?”
“Huh?’ You snap out of it, looking at him. “No, it was good. Really good. Thank you, guys. This really meant a lot. It was nice to remember all the fun we had here growing up.” Your words and smile are genuine, but Grayson can tell there’s something else going on.
“What’s wrong?” He asks.
“Nothing, just got me emotional I think,” you mumble, looking at your lap in hopes of avoiding them asking any further questions.
“Why not just all good ones?”
Oh because you loved me and I loved you and we didn’t tell each other and now we live such different lives in such different worlds and no guy has ever compared to you but if it was impossible in high school, it’s definitely impossible now, you think to yourself.
“Just miss being that carefree sometimes, I guess,” you shrug, deciding lying is most definitely the safer bet.
“Alright, she’s not gonna tell us the truth, so let’s at least go inside to avoid the mosquitos,” Ethan quips, standing and grabbing the popcorn bowl. You go to follow him, but Grayson grabs your arm. You look down at him and can see the concern in his eyes. You sit again while Ethan leaves you two out there alone.
“What is it actually?” He asks, his gaze heavy as it holds yours captive, wanting to genuinely hear and see what you have to say.
“You were gonna ask me to prom?” You whisper, like it’s some big secret. It also feels stupid asking him that seeing as prom is just not important anymore, but this was just easier to ask than the real question you wanted an answer to.
“Of course. Your ex was an ass for what he did, would never let you go alone after that. You knew I never liked him in the first place. But, you and Kayla had a really good time together, so it all worked out in the end,” his words are meaningful, but his smile isn’t meeting his eyes. It’s clear he’s holding back.
“But you were gonna ask me because you loved me?” You raise your brow.
He coughs, turning his head to the side to avoid the eye contact he had initiated. “Uh, yeah.”
“Like really loved me or just thought I was cute because we were in high school?”
“Definitely really loved you.” He nods, rubbing his bicep. He was nervous again, unsure of how to go about this. He thought you’d think it was funny that he loved you, not question him. He’s scared you’ll ask how he feels now, and he doesn’t want to say anything that will scare you off.
“Huh,” you huff, leaning back in your chair. “I loved you, too.” His eyes widen at this. He whips his head to look at you, shock written all over his face. He expected a lot of things to come from your mouth, but not that. Definitely not that.
“You fucking what?” Is the only response he can think go saying. He went through years of loving you from afar only to find out now he could have been doing it upfront this whole time.
You laugh, turning to look at him again. “Thought it was obvious. That’s why I never did anything, thought you knew and didn’t feel the same way.”
Grayson literally sputters, at a complete loss for words. “Is this a joke?”
“Why would I be joking?” You ask genuinely. Your brows pulled together in confusion, not understanding what was so shocking about it all.
“Because it has to be a joke that I could have been loving you all these years to your face instead of hiding it but I didn't have to.” He leans forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he holds his face in frustration.
You sit in silence for a moment, his words sinking in. You couldn’t tell what he meant by that, was he still in love with you?
“It’s okay Gray. We were young and stuff.” You shrug, hoping to make him feel better. I mean obviously you still were hopelessly in love with him, but he didn’t have to know it.
He laughs almost cynically, turning to look at you. “You don’t see it, do you?” He seems almost defeated while he speaks.
“See what?”
“I’m still in love with you. Like if we had a prom right now and you got ditched again I’d go rent a whole tux and take you. I’d literally do anything for you, and would have done anything the past two decades we’ve known each other. I love you so much, everything about you. When we moved away and you went to college, it took me literally like three months to start enjoying life again without telling you about everything because you deserved the space to grow. I couldn’t be selfish and take away your college experience from you just because I loved you. But seeing you today has just, I don’t know. I don’t even know what I’m saying,” he sighs, catching his breath. He’s rambled in front of you from nerves many times, but this was a whole other level. Fear slowly started to sink into every bone of his body as he realized what he had admitted to you.
You sat there in complete shock, not expecting him to have said any of that. Yet, he had put it perfectly. You had always kept your feelings to yourself so as to never hold him back. Also to avoid complete rejection from the most important person in your life, but also because he deserved to live without the burden of your love.
“Gray, hey, look at me,” you mumble, reaching out to put your arm on his forearm. He lifts his head, his eyes timidly meeting yours but his muscles relaxing as soon as he felt your skin on his.
“We can act like I didn’t say all of that stuff if it’ll mean we get to keep being friends.” The anxiety drips from every single word that comes from his mouth.
“Why would we do that?” You stand, walking over to stand i front of him. His gaze follows you while he leans back in his chair. You grab both his hands and encourage him to stand with you. When he does, your bodies are close, the heat radiating off one another.
“Because I’d rather be friends with you and act like I don’t love you than not be in your life at all.” His voice was so vulnerable and you don’t think you've ever heard him so shy in his life. He usually oozed confidence, never faltering. Now, all he seemed to be doing is question every word he’s saying.
“But what if we could be more than friends?” You ask, biting your lip and looking at him.
His face reflects his surprise as he sucks in a quick breath. Before he has the chance to ramble again, you lean in to leave a light kiss against his lips. It’s quick and Grayson almost wonders if he’s dreaming. It’s the moment he’s thought about since he was 10, and it was over before he could truly enjoy it.
He scans your face, making sure he doesn’t see any regret forming before he grabs your hips and pulls you in for a real kiss. His lips are slow and sensual on yours, cherishing every moment you let him continue to kiss you. You wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him flush against you.
All of a sudden you hear someone screaming from the window above you guys. You both pull away, looking up to see Ethan beaming down at you both. “And to think it only took me, like, 15 years to get this to happen!”
You all laugh, soaking up the relief and happiness of the moment. Although it took so long, you’re sure you and Grayson will appreciate every moment together going forward.

It’s bold of Nolan to make such a thoroughly dense blockbuster. He assumes people will actually want to see ~Matky more than once so they can understand it properly, which some may not. This movie makes the chronology of Inception look as simplistic as tic-tac-toe. Ergo, it’s hard for me to give an accurate rating, without having seen it twice, as I’m still trying to figure out whether everything does indeed make sense. If it does, this movie is easily a 9 or 10. If it doesn’t, it’s a 6. It’s further not helped by the fact that the dialogue in the first 15 minutes of the movie is painfully hard to understand / hear. Either they were behind masks; they were practically mumbling; the sound effects were too loud; or all of the above. The exposition scenes are also waayyy too brief for something this complex — a problem also shared with Interstellar actually. (Interstellar had this minimalist exposition problem explaining Blight, where if you weren’t careful, you’d miss this one sentence / scene in the entire movie explaining that Blight was a viral bacteria: “Earth’s atmosphere is 80% nitrogen, we don’t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives, our air gets less and less oxygen”). I guess it’s a Nolan quirk. Hopefully, a revision of the film audio sorts the sound mixing out. I do like the soundtrack, but it’s too loud initially. I liked all the actors. You think John Washington can’t act at first, but he can, and he grows on you as the film progresses. And Pattinson is his usual charming self. Elizabeth is a surprise treat. And so on. Its worth a watch either way. See it with subtitles if you can. And definitely don’t expect to fully understand whats going on the first time around. Its one hell of a complicated film. It will be very hard for an average viewer to gather all the information provided by this movie at the first watch. But the more you watch it, more hidden elements will come to light. And when you are able to put these hidden elements together. You will realize that this movie is just a “masterpiece” which takes the legacy of Christopher Nolan Forward If I talk about acting, Then I have to say that Robert Pattinson has really proved himself as a very good actor in these recent years. And I am sure his acting skills will increase with time. His performance is charming and very smooth. Whenever he is on the camera, he steals the focus John David Washington is also fantastic in this movie. His performance is electrifying, I hope to see more from him in the future. Other characters such as Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth, Himesh Patel, Dimple Kapadia, Clémence Poésy have also done quite well. And I dont think there is a need to talk about Michael Caine Talking about Music, its awesome. I dont think you will miss Hans Zimmer’s score. Ludwig has done a sufficient job. There is no lack of good score in the movie Gotta love the editing and post production which has been put into this movie. I think its fair to say this Nolan film has focused more in its post production. The main problem in the movie is the sound mixing. Plot is already complex and some dialogues are very soft due to the high music score. It makes it harder to realize what is going on in the movie. Other Nolan movies had loud BGM too. But Audio and dialogues weren’t a problem My humble request to everyone is to please let the movie sink in your thoughts. Let your mind grasp all the elements of this movie. I am sure more people will find it better. Even those who think they got the plot. I can bet they are wrong. ~Matky is the long awaited new movie from Christopher Nolan. The movie that’s set to reboot the multiplexes post-Covid. It’s a manic, extremely loud, extremely baffling sci-fi cum spy rollercoaster that will please a lot of Nolan fan-boys but which left me with very mixed views. John David Washington (Denzel’s lad) plays “The Protagonist” — a crack-CIA field operative who is an unstoppable one-man army in the style of Hobbs or Shaw. Recruited into an even more shadowy organisation, he’s on the trail of an international arms dealer, Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh in full villain mode). Sator is bullying his estranged wife Kat (Elizabeth Debicki) over custody of their son (and the film unusually has a BBFC warning about “Domestic Abuse”). Our hero jets the world to try to prevent a very particular kind of Armageddon while also keeping the vulnerable and attractive Kat alive. This is cinema at its biggest and boldest. Nolan has taken a cinema ‘splurge’ gun, filled it with money, set it on rapid fire, removed the safety and let rip at the screen. Given that Nolan is famous for doing all of his ‘effects’ for real and ‘in camera’, some of what you see performed is almost unbelievable. You thought crashing a train through rush-hour traffic in “Inception” was crazy? You ain’t seen nothing yet with the airport scene! And for lovers of Chinooks (I must admit I am one and rush out of the house to see one if I hear it coming!) there is positively Chinook-p*rn on offer in the film’s ridiculously huge finale. The ‘inversion’ aspects of the story also lends itself to some fight scenes — one in particular in an airport ‘freeport’ — which are both bizarre to watch and, I imagine, technically extremely challenging to pull off. In this regard John David Washington is an acrobatic and talented stunt performer in his own right, and must have trained for months for this role. Nolan’s crew also certainly racked up their air miles pre-lockdown, since the locations range far and wide across the world. The locations encompassed Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and United States. Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography is lush in introducing these, especially the beautiful Italian coast scenes. Although I did miss the David Arnold strings that would typically introduce these in a Bond movie: it felt like that was missing. The ‘timey-wimey’ aspects of the plot are also intriguing and very cleverly done. There are numerous points at which you think “Oh, that’s a sloppy continuity error” or “Shame the production design team missed that cracked wing mirror”. Then later in the movie, you get at least a dozen “Aha!” moments. Some of them (no spoilers) are jaw-droppingly spectacular. Perhaps the best twist is hidden in the final line of the movie. I only processed it on the way home. And so to the first of my significant gripes with ~Matky. The sound mix in the movie is all over the place. I’d go stronger than that… it’s truly awful (expletive deleted)! Nolan often implements Shakespeare’s trick of having characters in the play provide exposition of the plot to aid comprehension. But unfortunately, all of this exposition dialogue was largely incomprehensible. This was due to: the ear-splitting volume of the sound: 2020 movie audiences are going to be suffering from ‘~Matkyis’! (LOL); the dialogue is poorly mixed with the thumping music by Ludwig Göransson (Wot? No Hans Zimmer?); a large proportion of the dialogue was through masks of varying description (#covid-appropriate). Aaron Taylor-Johnson was particularly unintelligible to my ears. Overall, watching this with subtitles at a special showing might be advisable! OK, so I only have a PhD in Physics… but at times I was completely lost as to the intricacies of the plot. It made “Inception” look like “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”. There was an obvious ‘McGuffin’ in “Inception” — — (“These ‘dream levels’… how exactly are they architected??”…. “Don’t worry… they’ll never notice”. And we didn’t!) In “~Matky” there are McGuffins nested in McGuffins. So much of this is casually waved away as “future stuff… you’re not qualified” that it feels vaguely condescending to the audience. At one point Sator says to Kat “You don’t know what’s going on, do you?” and she shakes her head blankly. We’re right with you there luv! There are also gaps in the storyline that jar. The word “~Matky”? What does it mean. Is it just a password? I’m none the wiser. The manic pace of ~Matky and the constant din means that the movie gallops along like a series of disconnected (albeit brilliant) action set pieces. For me, it has none of the emotional heart of the Cobb’s marriage problems from “Inception” or the father/daughter separation of “Interstellar”. In fact, you barely care for anyone in the movie, perhaps with the exception of Kat. It’s a talented cast. As mentioned above, John David Washington is muscular and athletic in the role. It’s a big load for the actor to carry in such a tent-pole movie, given his only significant starring role before was in the excellent BlacKkKlansman. But he carries it off well. A worthy successor to Gerard Butler and Jason Statham for action roles in the next 10 years. This is also a great performance by Robert Pattinson, in his most high-profile film in a long time, playing the vaguely alcoholic and Carré-esque support guy. Pattinson’s Potter co-star Clemence Poésy also pops up — rather more un-glam that usual — as the scientist plot-expositor early in the movie. Nolan’s regular Michael Caine also pops up. although the 87-year old legend is starting to show his age: His speech was obviously affected at the time of filming (though nice try Mr Nolan in trying to disguise that with a mouth full of food!). But in my book, any amount of Caine in a movie is a plus. He also gets to deliver the best killer line in the film about snobbery! However, it’s Kenneth Branagh and Elizabeth Debicki that really stand out. They were both fabulous, especially when they were bouncing off each other in their marital battle royale. So, given this was my most anticipated movie of the year, it’s a bit of a curate’s egg for me. A mixture of being awe-struck at times and slightly disappointed at others. It’s a movie which needs a second watch, so I’m heading back today to give my ear drums another bashing! And this is one where I reserve the right to revisit my rating after that second watch… it’s not likely to go down… but it might go up. (For the full graphical review, check out One Mann’s Movies on t’interweb and Facebook. Thanks.) As this will be non-spoiler, I can’t say too much about the story. However, what I can is this: ~Matky’s story is quite dynamic in the sense that you won’t understand it till it wants you to. So, for the first half, your brain is fighting for hints and pieces to puzzle together the story. It isn’t until halfway through the movie that ~Matky invites you to the fantastic storytelling by Christopher Nolan. Acting is beyond phenomenal, and I’d be genuinely surprised if neither Robert Pattinson nor John David Washington doesn’t receive an Oscar nomination for best actor. It’s also hard not to mention how good Elizabeth Debicki and Aaron Johnson both are. All around, great acting, and the dialogue amps up the quality of the movie. The idea of this movie is damn fascinating, and while there are films that explore time-travelling, there’s never been anything quite like this. It has such a beautiful charm and for the most part, explains everything thoroughly. It feels so much more complex than any form of time-travelling we’ve seen, and no less could’ve been expected from Nolan. Oh my lord, the score for this film fits so perfectly. Every scene that’s meant to feel intense was amped by a hundred because of how good the score was. Let me just say though, none of them will be found iconic, but they fit the story and scenes so well. In the end, I walked out, feeling very satisfied. Nevertheless, I do have issues with the film that I cannot really express without spoiling bits of the story. There are definitely little inconsistencies that I found myself uncovering as the story progressed. However, I only had one issue that I found impacted my enjoyment. That issue was understanding some of the dialogue. No, not in the sense that the movie is too complicated, but more that it was hard to make out was being said at times. It felt like the movie required subtitles, but that probably was because, at a time in the film, there was far too much exposition. Nevertheless, I loved this film, I’ll be watching it at least two more times, and I think most of you in this group will enjoy it. I definitely suggest watching it in theatres if possible, just so you can get that excitement. (4/5) & (8.5/10) for those that care about number scores. At first, I want to ask Christopher Nolan one question, HOW THE HELL YOU DID THIS? Seriously I want to have an answer, How did he write such as this masterpiece! How did he get this complicated, fabulous and creative idea? What is going on in his mind? The story is written and directed perfectly, the narration style was absolutely unique. I have no idea how can anyone direct such as this story, that was a huge challenge, and as usual Nolan gave us a masterpiece that we’ll put beside (Memento), (Inception) and (Interstellar) The movie is so fast-paced in a good way, there was no boring moment. The chemistry between John David Washington and Robert Pattinson was great and funny and both of their performance was really good. Elizabeth Debicki performance was the best in the movie because she had the chance to show her acting abilities and she cached up that chance and showed us an A level acting. The music wasn’t unique and distinct as the music of Interstellar for example and I think this movie needed the touch of Hans Zimmer, I’m not saying that Ludwig Göransson failed but Hans Zimmer in another level. If there was something I’d say that I didn’t like it in the movie would it be that Nolan discarded any set up or characters backgrounds except Elizabeth Debicki dramatic story but it wasn’t that bad for me, I didn’t care about that, the exciting story didn’t give me the chance to focus on it. But the actual problem was the third act, it was really complicated and I got lost and I convinced myself to discard the questions that were in my head and enjoy the well-made action sequences and Elizabeth Debicki performance. I think this kind of movie that gets better with a second and third watch. I honestly don’t quite know where to begin with ~Matky. I love Christopher Nolan’s work but I have never seen a more complicated film (and I understood Memento). ~After nearly three hours, I came away from ~Matky not knowing myself, my mind reduced to nothing more than piles of ash. Was there time travel involved? Hmm, there was definitely something about time inversion. I mean, does Nolan even understand what he wrote? Look, I give credit to the director because he’s one of the few directors left who knows how to create a compelling and intelligent blockbuster. ~Matky is full of Nolan trademarks — the gratuitous Michael Caine cameo, a loud, really loud score, complete with stunning cinematography and slickly inventive action set-pieces. This time around however, Nolan has finally managed to ‘out-Nolan’ himself: the palindromic plot, whilst creatively ambitious, is simply far too complicated for its own good. ~Matky is overlong, overstuffed, pretentious and too exhausting to comprehend in its entirety — it makes Inception and Interstellar look like Peppa Pig by comparison. I’m aware of the technical wizardry and creative mastery in this film and lord knows I’ll have to watch this again. For those who want a puzzle, ~Matky at least provides a unique cinematic experience. But to actually enjoy solving it Nolan wants you to work very very hard.

On Research: Worldbuilding and Culture
Tumblr media
Hullo, in this post I’m going to talk about how I research and do world-building for my stories!
I’m doing this through the following ways:
1) using chapter 1 of my historical Taegi fic  to illustrate what I did to research the era and the culture for that period,
2) providing the templates and tools I used in the hopes that it can help some of you all writers if you ever want to write your own research-intensive stories or original fiction that requires world-building!
While I’m using my BTS Taegi fic as a means to explain my process, this post is for any sort of writing project - original or fanfiction. If you follow me for fic, though, there will be chapter 1 spoilers for it. So if you haven’t read that yet, be-warned that there be spoilers below!
> How I do my research/world-building:
If your idea for the actual story is agnostic of time-period or setting, identifying that is possibly the first step. My initial idea for this story was to have it take place during a war (the Imjin War between Japan and in 1590s was the first choice) but finding the spooky landscape to set it against while also maintaining the drama and tension of a battlefield was going to dilute the characters and their inner conflicts.
So I went back to reading about Korean history in broad terms (Google Books is your friend) , trying to locate a time-period to set my story in. I finally chose this time-period because it was very interesting to me in multiple ways.
- it’s still a way away from the big social reforms in Korea in the 1800s that would push it into the Modern Period of history
- it was a time period when common people and peasants began to lose trust in the king and the upper-class bureaucracy, leading to peasant rebellions and some villages stockpiling their own grains
- it is a time when global influences were beginning to creep into Korean society, including Christianity. In fact, just a few years from this, a major wave of persecution would be unleashed against Catholics in Korea.
- I chose this time-period also because I wanted the level of organization of society that’s in this fic. It’s been established already, which means the characters are at a point of history where things are more or less stable in terms of what is expected of them as a member of this society. I needed that stability to create a quieter sort of period mystery.
To research for this story (or any other), once I pick the time period, I start looking for answers to my biggest questions:
1) how did they live: this includes food, travel, interests, societal hierarchy and organization, family structure, music, religions, and mythology. Basically, anything that they shared as a cultural group. In doing this, I had to separate royalty from common folk, because so much history is written about the royals and there’s so less about the folk. I looked up everything from the food that the common people ate to the issues they faced (winter and the gap between rice and barley cultivation was a huge aspect; so huge, in fact, that the popularity of kimchi can be attributed to needing a protein source in the winter that wouldn’t go bad). I looked up clothes and fabrics and the layout of villages. I looked for traditional crafts. And when I did, I found myself going down rabbit holes about caste professions (the shaman, for example, is of low caste in Joseon society, which was surprising to me considering so many period fics I’ve read has depicted them in a different fashion.)
I know that this feels very disorganized and random, but that’s because I have been doing world-building—both fantasy and historical—for a long time, and my process is built basis what I’ve historically realized works for me. But to make this post more useful, I’ve figured out a template that helps to look into culture. I used to use this to build original fantasy worlds, and I think it is useful.
Tumblr media
And here is a graphic where someone has analyzed Japanese culture through this lens:
Tumblr media
Most cultures share elements of commonality. You can use this graphic above to figure out how to research. For example, the culture of Joseon Korea as I have tried to research for this fic comprises of:
1) Language (written and spoken - so Korean; Hangul, + Chinese characters);
2) Religion (shamanism + neo-confucianism)
3) Government (caste system + agrarian bureaucracy + royalty) etc.
You can fill in the blanks this way for any time period and thus get a better understanding of the culture you’re writing about.
Additionally, I’ve spoken about the cultural iceberg on twitter before, but I find it very useful when I’m researching to pick up on each element in it and look up information pertaining to them.
Tumblr media
This is how I use the iceberg:
> the top portion is usually the things that we’ve picked up on, through Run episodes or general Bangtan stuff. Like, we know hanbok is Korean traditional dress. We know the kind of food they eat. We know the music scene in SK, and that the major festivals are seollal and choseok.
> the bottom portion is where you gain deeper intercultural understanding. Notions of modesty, for example. We know that gender roles in Korea are more entrenched than they are in the west. In this fic, men are the ones mostly occupying spheres of influence, but women have their own spheres—we’ll get to that in a while. If you see, there’s an aspect called ‘nature of friendship’. This is where the concept of hyung-line/maknae-line/same-age friends all fit into this culture. It’s less visible than the top half, but you can still gain knowledge of it. Similarly, ‘attitude towards elders’ or ‘concepts of beauty’ are both aspects of culture. These are keywords you can use to learn more about culture. Again, you can also use this in original writing projects to build your fantasy world. I know I do :)
Now that I know how my characters live, I come to the second stage of planning/world-building:
2) where in society are my characters: since I’m writing a mystery, I need someone who wants to solve it. I need detectives. I read up on everything I could about the Joseon lawmaking process, going through scholars and bureaucrats and ministers before I found a smaller, quieter force: the podocheong. I also need medics, people in charge of administration, senior officials, and so forth. For each of this, I tried to look into how my character could have entered that role, what that role comprises of, and where it puts them in that society. Seokjin, because he is a senior official, would require to have taken a test to enter into that force. His family would have to be of a particular class status to even enable him to take it. Knowing this, I looked up everything I could about the gwageo because I found it so fascinating! There were whole coaching centers dedicated to just teaching children of upper-class bureaucrats so they could pass the gwageo! If you belonged to an upper-class yangban family, and you didn’t pass the gwageo for four generations, your titles could be stripped from you. This is another nugget of information that I thought would be an interesting premise for a character being a in a particular conundrum—you’ll see that later in the story.
For Taehyung, being an artist in that age would have come with interesting baggage. Calligraphers and painters were usually higher-class folk. Peasants simply did not have the time or the materials to pursue art. But there are outliers—inkstick craftsmen, for example, are among what was considered the ‘vulgar common caste’ but they were the ones who made ink and color pigments.
This just helps me create a richer world than I would have without putting in this research. It also makes your world seem more cohesive, lived-in, and deep.
So now that I know how they live and who they are, we come to:
 3) what are my external/internal conflicts: my characters behave the way they do because of the culture and the customs of the time period. My external conflict—the murders—have to be set against a background of this, and informed by this. So I chose to make Yoongi a sort of disgraced scholar because it allows him to operate outside of his station: he needs to talk to Taehyung, or villagers for example who are all beneath his station, and he wouldn’t be able to do that to the same effect if he is a regular scholar like Jin is. The culture simply won’t allow him to. That also leads to friction between yoonjin, and secrets once they start appearing. His current station helps him integrate better into Tae’s world, while removing him from the world he’s working for. It also serves for his internal conflict, fears and grief.
Now if I were to extend this example to a more contemporary story: say your characters are in modern Seoul. Your external/internal conflicts can still be tied into the culture. Expectation on children to look after their aging parents OR the character’s family values vs. individual outlook OR Korea’s culture of students studying late into the night vs. the slowing job industry etc.  For a Jinkook fake-dating AU, say, consider what are the troubles that Jin and Jungkook, who have 5 years between them, individually face. 27 year old Jin’s place in society, social spheres and worries will be very different from just-out-of-college Jungkook’s.
Why does any of this matter?
I just think putting in some effort to understand culture makes for richer characters, a richer world, and better writing. Not to mention it lets you learn about a new culture, which I think is fascinating, especially if you spend so much of your time thinking/talking about 7 Korean boys.
So to summarize— I guess this is how I research/worldbuild:
 1) Find out when and where
2) Find out who, and how that character is affected by the customs/culture of that era/setting
3) tie my external/internal conflicts back to the era/setting so that the world feels truly lived in and alive.
For truly good world-building, make sure that your conflicts are caused by limitations imposed on a character due to their cultural setting, or because whatever is happening is outside of their comfort zone. Human beings don’t live in a vacuum. The society and the values that we grow up in affects everything we do, every decision we make. Even rebelling against that culture is an aspect influenced by that culture. Your world (fantasy or otherwise) will feel way less flat if it follows the rules of actual cultures world over.
*mic-drop*
If you found this post useful as a resource for writing/world-building, please consider a small ko-fi donation!
[PS: Clarifying that I will not be taking ko-fi for the fic itself - only for the original content that I provide here, on this blog, which can be used for fanfiction or original world-building.]

Okay, as I mentioned in a previous tag from a previous reblog, where Shakespearean tragedy analogies/comparisons are concerned, this is looking less and less like Romeo and Juliet (doomed star-crossed lovers, but hey, at least their folks kissed and made up at their funerals, so to speak!) or Hamlet (huge “pile o’ bods,” including the struggling title character, but hey, at least he finally avenged Daddy’s death and left Horatio behind to tell the tale!) and more like MacBeth.  And frankly, that’s really hard for me to take, because I hate MacBeth!!!  (That being said, yeah, Lenny is now officially a classic Lady MacBeth figure.  Out damned spot indeed!)  And it seems rather ironic to me now that the body count we thought was “a thing” by the end of the Pilot -- dead Lenny, dead Clark -- really is a thing now.  (...or is it?!?  Duh-duh-DUHHHHHHHH!!!)
On the bright side (yes, I’m determined to find one -- LOL!), good and/or bad, there was a lot that happened in this ep that imo needed to happen if we’re going to reach a halfway-decent conclusion for better or worse.  And let’s not make the decision there just yet, though we’re kind of left in a position to anticipate the latter imo.
Clark’s fate? love him or hate him, yeah, he had to go imo, because to me he was a vengeful fly in the ointment who only back-burnered his David-grudge from Chapters 9 to 19 due to lack of sufficient evidence of David being a threat (a terribly useful tool in Farouk’s “bag o’ tricks;” please let us remember how casually Farouk literally flicked him off in the closing scenes of Chapter 18!), and consequently only succeeded in his relentless pursuit and obsession in making a bad situation ten times worse and more complicated in the long run.  I’ve mentioned before that Daniel’s lines in Chapter 20 made the consequences of Clark’s one-track mind perfectly clear, which brings me to Daniel’s fate:  Yeah, this is definitely one to file under “Okay, if you want me to badmouth David, I’ll go with this one; what he did to Daniel was (borrowing from Clueless) way harsh and completely unnecessary and cruel.”  Funny that it happened before he took down Clark, who again did have to be removed if any headway is to be made in any direction imo.  But maybe that’s part of the point being made here:  Okay, fine, go ahead and hate David for savagely taking down Daniel’s mental capacity as collateral damage, if you like.  But in the end, what put him in the line of fire in the first place?  His love for and loyalty to the obsessed (”focused”) Clark.  So could it be possible that, consciously or otherwise, Clark was so focused on taking down David by whatever means necessary that he was willing to put his partner at risk in the process? and doesn’t that make him as bad as David, allowing his obsessions to distract him from and ruin what he holds dear?  Not an excuse, mind, but just a thought.  It’s just that there are so many more of David at this point that it’s easier to spot in his case! LOL!
Which leads me to the next batch of things that happened that needed to imo:  The long-overdue Sydvid talk and Syd’s discovery of David’s alters.  Now regarding the former, this brings me to a tiresome sore point in light of the Chapter 23 gulag scene, namely the “one step forward/two steps back”-type of scenario where David has a much-needed confrontation that reveals his deep-seated pains and struggles beneath his dark persona, but GOTCHA! -- the whole thing turned out to be a trick, and David’s back to his guarded ruthless self as a result.  Still, hopelessly optimistic viewer that I am, I’d like to think some much-needed seeds were planted during the talk:  Even if Syd was deliberately attempting to lull David into letting his guard down (via SK’s Chapter 21 cringe-worthy promise to “teach you to lie so well that he’ll thank you as you stab him in the back”) by saying everything he wanted (and imo needed) to hear.  (Yeah, since David made a point of mentioning how he used to trust her, we’ll see how well he trusts her in future after that stunt!!! 🙄)  I’d like to think that, whatever state she may be in at this point (there’s the possibility that she may not take a literal physical form, but hey, after the whole Lenny S1-S2 Saga, who knows with this show?), she’ll know a lot better than to trust Farouk from now on.  (David was right about that when he said she shouldn’t have trusted him!!!)  I like the fact that she at least admitted that she had been jealous!!!  So at least she came out and stated the obvious; I was pleased about that!
And now that it’s happened, I can go ahead and say it:  Yes, the Sydvid Body Swap, Syd-trick or otherwise, needed to happen, because Syd needed to see what was/is driving David and making him behave the way he has been all this time.  I was shocked as to how quickly it transpired:  I wasn’t expecting it for a few more eps, tbh, and yeah, I was kind of hoping it would end a little more optimistically, with Syd and the Davids eventually talking things over, but depending on wherever Syd is mentally now (in David’s mind? somewhere in the stratosphere? I know that the next ep, which I may miss altogether but follow up on via summaries in the name of continuity, will follow her on the astral plane, so idk, maybe she’s just in a deep coma right now physically), maybe it could still happen with three eps to go?
Also, on a side note, I liked watching DS’s “Syd-as-David” drag RK’s weakly protesting “David-as-Syd” down the halls muttering, “It’s okay, David! I gotcha!”  Took me awhile to figure out wtf Syd was up to and what she was really trying to pull during the discussion, complete with her tipping her hand about Switch’s whereabouts; I concur with a tweet I read dismissing it as a stupid plan on the part of Syd, quite frankly, thereby minimizing sympathy somewhat imo for her current position.  But I still enjoyed watching that post-swap part for some reason; acting-wise, that had to be a challenge for both DS and RK, so props there!  (And okay, yeah, Syd using David’s powers to blast his knife-wielding followers?  On the one hand, I feel sorry for them, but on the other, I concede with reluctance that it was kind of cool, if for no other reason that I no longer have to listen to them call him “Daddy”!  ROTFL!  Not sure what annoys me more, their calling him “Daddy” or Farouk calling him “My son” or “My baby.”  Let’s put it at a photo finish, shall we?  LOL!)
Okay, on to the Lenny Shocker -- and to me, it was a shocker!  Yet there was a huge dropped ball in this scene that annoyed me:  As Lenny was calling David out on his narcissism, why the heck didn’t he point out that the only reason he was keeping her around and/or she had a body in the first place -- a body destroyed by Syd, accidentally or otherwise, using David’s body and powers, I might add!!! -- was because Farouk destroyed the only tangible family, adopted or otherwise, in order to grant her request for a physical body and freedom?  He would have certainly had grounds to do so, Heaven only knows!  Okay, fine -- not saying that Hawley & Co. had to call up Katie Asleton to get her to film new scenes; a few flashbacks and/or at least the name-drop of Amy would have been good enough for me.  But I’ll give NH credit:  There may have been a case in which he did write such a line in this scene for David, and heck, maybe it was even filmed, only to be cut at the request of the FX execs who argued that it would cause the ep to run too long to ironically run that Twizzlers ad during the commercial breaks.  (Anyone else catch that in the “Lenny Swan Song”-ep with regard to a sponsor choice? that couldn’t have been a coincidence! LOL!)  Perhaps the best part of the scene (at least imo), David shedding visible and genuine tears as Lenny slowly bleeds to death, was supposed to indicate this, that the closest thing he had nearby to remind him of a true family was slipping away from him.  Interesting ref during the Sydvid talk that he later describes this as “abandonment” and equates it with his parents.  I guess that’ll work for now, but I would have liked to at least hear the Amy-ref, since it’s safe to call that moment the turning point in S2, David’s realization of Lenny’s true identity.  JMO.
And while the World Wide Web is crying “There’s no doubt about it, David truly is a villain now!” can we just take a look at Farouk in this ep once and for all and say “Yeah, okay, whatever, but that doesn’t mean that Farouk is good by default!”?  (I know, I know -- two wrongs don’t make a right, as I keep saying, but again, Farouk’s old enough to have a better idea of what he’s doing, and apparently for all his coolness, even he in the end underestimates his competition!) Puppet master, master Chess player (oooh, a Xavier/Magneto ref! LOL!), etc., etc. -- we definitely see Farouk as nothing more than a master manipulator.  Yet he’s not completely successful in his control over D3, and since the D3/Summerland gang has changed so dramatically and frustratingly over the course of this show to the point where I’m not even sure I can root for the Loudermilks anymore (Kerry’s excitement about going to space was kind of fun, though!), I’m not sure whether to be pleased or disappointed in this turn of events and the inevitable parting of the ways.  (Or at least I would hope so; perhaps he’ll use Syd’s apparent condition to his advantage, idk.)  Frankly, I’m coming more and more to the conclusion that there is going to be no true winner at curtain’s end no matter how you slice it; at best, perhaps some parties will come away with a bittersweet sense of closure, and that’ll be about it.
Regarding Farouk’s underestimation of his control over the situation, I liked Switch’s suddenly popping up to help David, but if she’s incarcerated in a hibernation chamber, how the heck did she manage to snap out of it so quickly?  That had a rather deus ex machina-feel to it imo.  I may have missed something, idk; quite possible with this type of a show.  LOL!
And as often happens, I guess I had a little more to say the morning after than I thought I did! 😂

Is Mesut Ozil’s ‘dream’ move to Fenerbahce a gamble?
Tumblr media
Fenerbahce’s signing of Mesut Ozil from Arsenal has generated huge excitement among fans of the Turkish football club that has had little to cheer about in recent years.
The Istanbul-based giants – one of Turkish football’s ‘big three’ clubs – have not won the Turkish Super League since 2014, an eternity for a club of its stature.
The signing of 32-year-old Ozil, an attacking midfielder of Turkish origin and a World Cup winner with Germany, became the biggest signing in Turkish football for many years.
So much was the excitement that, according to Flightradar24, at one point more than 300,000 people were tracking his flight from London to Istanbul on January 18.
Yesterday, over 1 million @Fenerbahce fans followed @MesutOzil1088’s flight from London to Istanbul. At peak, over 300,000 people were following the flight at the same time. https://t.co/O2XjKDO5MT pic.twitter.com/WlQvFeZkx4
— Flightradar24 (@flightradar24) January 18, 2021
But amid the fanfare, Ozil arrives in Istanbul with footballing and political baggage and raises the stakes this season for Fenerbahce and its beleaguered club president Ali Koc.
‘Very excited’
From a financial point of view, the transfer is – ostensibly, at least – astonishing.
Turkish football is mired in debt, partly from years of chronic overspending on players and little financial accountability.
Although Ozil joined as a free agent, Fenerbahce – whose estimated debt stands at more than $500m – had to launch a fundraising campaign to finance his wages, asking fans for donations.
His three-and-a-half-years contract will land Ozil at least nine million euros ($10.9m) as well as a signing bonus of 550,000 euros ($667,340).
While Fenerbahce are banking on selling Ozil merchandise and hoping he leads the club to the league title that would land a hefty dividend with Champions League qualification, his arrival could further limit the club’s ability to meet its obligations under UEFAs Financial Fair Play rules which dictate that clubs have to break even.
It will add more foreign currency debt to a club at a time when the Turkish lira is notably weak.

— Fenerbahçe SK (@Fenerbahce) January 26, 2021
Ozil took a huge pay cut to terminate the remaining six months of his contract at Arsenal, which was thought to have been worth up to 350,000 pounds ($480,100) a week.
He could have also earned significantly more money by signing with a club in the United States or Qatar.
But after earning reportedly close to 100 million pounds ($137.4m) during his time at Arsenal, Ozil perhaps did not need the money so much as he needs love and respect after a difficult few years.
Fenerbahce and Turkey seem to hold a strong emotional pull for him.
Born and raised in Gelsenkirchen, western Germany, Ozil says he supported Fenerbahce since childhood and that joining this club was a “dream” move.
“I’m very excited. God gave me the chance to wear this jersey as a Fenerbahce fan. God willing, I will carry it with honour and do everything I can for the team,” he said on Wednesday at his unveiling.
I grew up as a @Fenerbahce fan as a kid in Germany – every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany. And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in the country 🇹🇷 https://t.co/Y3hEba79IO
— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) January 11, 2021
In Turkey, Ozil is a hero for some.
Part of the excitement is down to his star quality, but it is also seen by some as a kind of ‘homecoming’ for a player who has always been proud of his Turkish heritage.
He will wear the number 67 – the first two digits of the post code and license plate number of his family’s native Zonguldak province in the Black Sea region of Turkey.
It seems likely that Ozil is craving adulation after allegedly facing racism during his international career and becoming an increasingly divisive and forlorn figure at Arsenal over the past few seasons.
Some even joked that the number of people tracking his flight to Istanbul included many Arsenal fans who wanted to be sure he had really gone.
Arriving with baggage
Ozil was Arsenal’s record signing when former manager Arsene Wenger brought him from Real Madrid in 2013.
During his first few seasons in the Premier League, he dazzled with his flair and creativity, and ended up with 44 goals and 77 assists in 254 appearances.
But he also became a lightning rod for criticism and controversy.
While he made 92 international appearances and was a key part of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning side, he ended his international career in 2018 after what he called racist criticism and scapegoating following Germany’s first-round exit at the 2018 tournament.
“I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose,” he said.
Ozil was also heavily criticised in Germany when he posed for a photo with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Erdogan was the best man at Ozil’s wedding the following year.
Ozil’s performances and returns on the pitch for Arsenal declined over time and he was increasing out of favour – especially after Wenger departed in 2018.
He became deeply unpopular among many Arsenal fans. Detractors questioned his commitment to the club while receiving one of the highest salaries in the league.
More sympathetic fans pointed to his languid playing style that belied the significant distance that he used to cover on the pitch and bemoaned the lack of playing time he was given amid his stated desire to break back into the Arsenal team.
He also found himself at odds with the club in December 2019 after his comments regarding China’s persecution of its Turkic and Muslim Uighur minority, which the club distanced itself from.
Ozil took more flak after rejecting a pay cut during the COVID lockdown last year.
His last competitive appearance for Arsenal was in March 2020 but he insists he is in good shape and Koc said he should be ready to make his debut in the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray on February 6, if not sooner.
Looming election
His transfer is still a gamble for Fenerbahce.
Perhaps Ozil will settle down quickly and excel in a league that has a lower standard than the Premier League.
But he has not played for almost a year – it’s not clear how good he is now – and he may struggle to adapt to a more rudimentary style, in a physical and volatile league, alongside some teammates that may be nowhere near his level.
It is a lot to expect one player to transform a team which Fenerbahce, despite being  second in the table, has long struggled for consistent form.
Tumblr media
Ozil with Fenerbahce president Ali Koc during official signing
Koc – an urbane scion of one of Turkey’s richest families – was elected president in 2018 after pledging to reverse the club’s fortunes, repair its dire finances, and develop young players while ending excessive transfers that were often burdens and flops.
But with a new election due at some point later this year, the club has yet to win a trophy under his stewardship.
Turkish football is notoriously impatient, the pressure is immense, and disgruntled fans and members need appeasing. Signing Ozil could be a useful and popular gambit ahead of the looming election, but it is also risky.
Koc has delivered Ozil, and now Ozil will be expected to deliver this season’s title.

BTS reaction to the girl they are in love with being a Muslim
Anonymous said : How would BTS react to the GIRL they’ve fallen in love with being muslim? (As in they were friends and then they fell in love with her) If you don’t like it then it’s fine… I’ve just always been curious about this haha😂😂 -  Hey I’m the one with the Muslim question. Could you add a scenario to it as well .
HEY!!!!!~thanks for requesting ! , here’s your reaction and I hope you like it >< .
LONG POST AHEAD
Jin :
Tumblr media
You were used to him visiting often, everyday at 11 pm to be exact. After coming back from training and before going home he'd to come to the store where you worked to buy groceries for dinner, having the same taste in food made eating together easy.
Your meetings weren't limited to 11pm rendezvous. Soon you knew the whole group. You two regularly
went to discover new restaurants. Not too long after you fell in love with him and he felt the same with you .
As you went to a new seafood restaurant with him you were overwhelming by the constant stares you were given and their mumbling about you made it worse. You pouted and looked down at your plate .
"I always knew that hijab isn't that good on me .." you stated, he threw his spoon down and looked with anger .
"what in the name of noodles are you talking about ?who said that ? " you pointed at the other tables, he gulped before starting to shout .
"what ?, haven't you ever seen a beautiful girl before ? " he looked at them, you hid your face and whispered
"oppa! ,calm down " he looked at you then back at those around you
"no ,I won't calm down ,and next time don't stare ,or you'll be in a huge trouble with me and you girls ,ok ?" he pouted, took a spoonful of food then smiled at you .
"don't worry ,you are beautiful ,even if they say things ,you are always beautiful in my eyes .." .
Suga :
Tumblr media
Because you shared the same class and the same passion, Yoongi couldn't help but appreciate and adore you for being the best person when it came to understanding him.
You both had a talent for reading each other's minds, he could know what songs you were thinking about ,and you were perfect at realizing how he was feeling and what made him moody. In other words, he was your mirror, and you were his secret guardian .
As both of you reached your house, you thanked him for the stunning night he offered you as a first date ,you turned and smiled .
"Thanks Yoongi. Seriously, this was the best night I've had, especially after a long term we had this year .." you said, your eyes locked on the ground. He leaned into your ear .
"it's nothing y/n ..but really ,it wouldn't be that perfect without you .." you smiled at his words as you could feel your cheeks burn and turning red.
After seconds of silence ,you felt him getting closer to you, you believed that he was ready to kiss you so you placed your hand on his chest and pushed him slowly , your eyes never left the ground .
"I-I'm sorry .. I can't .." your tone seemed weak and wistful, then you locked eyes with him.
"it's ok y/n .. I think I understand ,and I believe I can wait .." he had that warm small smile which sent shivers down your spine every time, you couldn't help but smile .
"thanks ,really thanks .." so he patted your shoulder with a gummy huge smile .
"good night y/n ..dream about me ! " followed by both of your giggles .
Rap Monster :
Tumblr media
It all started when he was about to fall and you helped him near the pool ,that was the first thing you’ve known about him, his clumsiness. And your interests in philosophy was the first thing he’s known about you ,and from that time you’ve found that you think the same way, and that was the beginning of your friendship .
“So not every muslim wears hijab” he said as he took a sip from his coffee, it was another normal discussion session in the coffee shop you insisted on having it every week .
“No .. “ you said while checking the phone .
“And you can get into relationships ?” .
“Yes ,in an acceptable range ..” your eyes still locked on the phone .
“Really ? .. and do you think I would be good in relationships ?” he took another long sip .You  looked up at him with a silly face .
“How this question is related to the previous one ?” he looked deep in your eyes ,with a weird smirk .
“I mean if I confessed would you reject me?” you couldn’t utter a word, so he continued .
“I love you y/n ..” his smirk turned into a warm smile, you couldn't help but blush and look away .
“Shall I say that you didn’t reject me ?” his tone still the same, happy and warm
You took a sip and bit your lower lip, your smile never faded
“I’ll take it as a yes ..” his eyes didn’t leave you
J-hope :
Tumblr media
You both had the habit of going to gym at midnight ,because both of you had full schedules, so your time together was always full of confessions and worries then relief while the whole gym was empty besides a few people like you.
He found the idea of having a person to talk to with no limits so comfortable ,that you both were each others’ secrets box ,and with no worries you shared even your embarrassing moments and deep fears then .. you found yourselves in love  with each other .
“y/n ? “ he said between his heavy breathes ,as you both were working out on similar machines .
“yes ?” without taking a glance you replied .
“What’ll ever stop you from falling in love ? ,is your religion an obstacle or your way of thinking or what ?” you kept working out and answered simply .
“Nothing’s an obstacle ,feelings are not sins ..” he tried to hide his grin .
“like what would you do if someone confessed ?” you stopped ,looking around .
“Why ?,did someone talk to you about me ?” he stopped too .
“No ,I just wanna know your reaction ..” you continued .
“Well ,depends on who is he ,maybe I have similar feelings ,or how’s our friendship ,again .. it depends on who is he “ he smiled and said in a serious tone .
“I love you ..” you stopped ,took a glance at him and were lost in your thoughts .
“You ? ,love me ?” his smile turned confused .
“Why ? ,did I say something wrong ?” you shook your head and smiled shyly .
“Umm ..no ,actually ,that was so .. shocking “ he leaned to make an eye contact .
“In a good way ?” at that point you failed to hide your smile ,and continued playing .
“I guess in a good way “ you could hear his chuckles .
Jimin :
Tumblr media
The cold breeze bothered your nose ,as your body was buried under two jackets and half of your face disappeared under your huge scarf .
Every morning you used to wait for the same bus with the same person at the same hour ,you and him shared the concerns of the previous nights ,your hope for the coming days ,and two cups of hot chocolate ,to defend yourselves from the cold breeze of December .
“Jimin-ah?” you said ,taking a sip from your cup ,and he hummed back .
“Do you believe in love ?” you asked ,so he let out a nervous giggle .
“These thoughts are for midnight ,now it’s 6 am y/n ..” you pouted slightly .
“Love is for anytime and any person ..” he buried half of his face in his scarf and mumbled :
“that’s true ..” you looked shocked at him with a huge smile .
“What ? ,are you in love ? “ he looked aways ,panicked .
“No- ,yes- ,I mean ,it’s a one sided love ..” you put your cup on the bench .
“Why ? ,why didn’t you confess ?” you could tell that his looks were sinking in sadness .
because she’ll refuse ..” you pouted .
“Why so certain ?” he turned fast as he lost his patience .
“‘Cuz she’s muslim and I read about it and she won’t- “ he kept staring at you ,as he remembered that he told you once about you being the only muslim he’s ever met .
“Jimin-ah ..” he sat straight back ,eyes locked on the horizon .
“I might be reserved ,but I’ll never break your heart or reject your feelings ..” he looked at you with sparkles of hope .
“Really ? ..” you nodded with a sweet smile .
“And I may have the same feelings too !” you blushed .
V :
Tumblr media
Your kindness and his spontaneous behavior were the only things that brought you two together.
His days were started and ended with your smiles and cheers. And you found that the best thing is to sharing your neighborhood with such a bright human like Taehyung .
As a friendly Tae ,your relationship wasn’t limited to saying ( hi ) every morning or night ,you also shared some free days and happy moments or even went to each others’ house  parties, till you found yourselves spending most of your days together in love with each other .
“y/n ..” he said as you both were eating ice cream at midnight ,heading back to your homes .
“yep ?” you replied carelessly .
“have you ever fallen in love before ?” your facial expressions didn’t change .
“nah ,I’m a protective person ,maybe because I’m a muslim or because of something else ,but that theme isn’t welcomed by most of the men ..” he stopped ,staring at you with a surprised expression .
“Being protective or a muslim is the reason ? ,I don’t see them as obstacles ! ,actually I’ll be the happiest if I were in a relationship with you !” you smiled back at him .
“You're such a sweetheart, but Tae ,I’ve never been in a relationship before .. so I donno how I would be !” he rubbed his neck .
“I think you’d be so cute and nice ..” you felt the heat warming up your cheeks and making them all red .
“Thanks ..” you whispered with a small smile .
“Do- do you want to try ?” he looked at you with a nervous smile .
“What ?” you puffed ,acting stupidly .
“can I take you out on a date ?” he touched his neck for the thousand time .
“ohh Tae , I- I would be glad to ..” that smile never left your faces as you both walked back to your apartments with pinky thoughts, all silent .
Jungkook :
Tumblr media
He has never expected that thing to happen ,to stay up all night waiting for that golden hour to come ,that hour when he used to meet you in the line to drink the same coffee at the same coffee shop ,you became a part of his daily routine , the best part .
He stepped in the shop ,super calm and bright ,and at the same time ,surprised for not being panicked ,talking to a girl was never one of his skills ,but he believed that you were an exception ,a very special exception .
“good morning y/n ! …. Are you in a hurry ?” he looked with curious eyes .
“Ohhh morning ! ..well no ,actually I’m free the whole day ,why?” he rubbed his neck in nervousness ,so you smiled ,acting carelessly.
“I was going to ask the same question ,do you have the time to drink –“ he stopped you , didn’t hear anything you’ve said .
“Wanna go out on a date ?” he immediately spoke ,getting you all shocked .You expected for such a thing to happen ,but you planned to get to know each other more, maybe he would step back if he knew you were a muslim .
“O- ..ok ,a great chance to tell you important things ..” he kept that straight face ,but the inner him felt curious to the max .
“Like what ?”
“Well ,I’m a muslim ,and two years younger than you –“ he made a comfortable smile .
“These aren’t that important ..” .
“You sure ?” you pouted .
“I think “ he rubbed his neck .
“So .. meet you here at 1 pm ?”  .

……A personal message from the Instant Event Fundraising System™ creator:
Dear Fellow Fundraiser,
Hello, my name is John Kaplan. I’ve devoted much of my career to helping school and community organizations turn family fun into thousands of dollars through my Fundraising Magic™ program.
My wife Heather and I are also actively involved in the fundraising activities of the parent committees in the schools that our two sons attend.
I’ve had an opportunity to observe – from both sides of the fence – exactly what it takes to achieve enormous success with an event fundraiser. (I’ve also learned from the failures).
The
Instant Event Fundraising System™ has been built, during 3 decades of hands-on experience, from one basic premise: How to provide a simple step-by-step plan to the groups I work on behalf of that guarantees them of a hugely successful event every time.
Since the organizations I work with are so widely varied, this plan has been developed to be used by any type of group, large or small, from tiny town to big city.
Regardless if you’ve had any experience in putting together a fundraising event or whether this is your first involvement, the tools, techniques and strategies included in the Instant Event Fundraising System™ are guaranteed to save you tons of time, relieve all kinds of stress and frustration, and help you avoid countless pitfalls.
There’s nothing worse than being held responsible for a failed fundraising event. The tragedy lies not in the lack of dedication by well-intentioned individuals simply trying to do their best, but in the absence of real nuts-and-bolts knowledge and techniques that frankly can only come from years of experience.
It’s this knowledge that I’m honoured to share with folks whose mission it is to bring together a successful fundraising event that will earn them the appreciation of their communities and the organizations they represent. From my own experience and that of countless others I’ve helped with this system, I can tell you that there’s no greater feeling than that of having pulled off a hugely successful event.
Put the Instant Event Fundraising System™ to the test – at my risk – as hundreds of other successful groups like yours have done during the past thirty years, and see for yourself how this amazing step-by-step system can catapult your fundraising results over and above anything you may have believed possible..
To Your Fundraising Success,
