5:40 pm - Isagi Yoichi

You're Yoichi's first.

The first person he's ever confessed to, his first relationship, the first person he's ever loved.

It's no surprise. On Valentines day he didn't receive anything, each year he passively listens to his teammates plan out and discuss how to reciprocate on White Day, unable to relate. Whenever his classmates brought up the discussion of crushes and who'd be the best to date, his name was never brought up.

Yoichi genuinely did not care. He's not interested in pursuing romance, and would much rather prioritise and focus on the relentless journey to achieve his dream of becoming number one. In fact, he perceived the lack of dating in his life as something to be proud of, he has more time to dedicate to his objectives as an athlete.

Yet here he finds himself, holding your hand in secret, skin drenched in sweat and face dusted with pink.

17 years of being ignored by love, the streak broken by you.

It all started when coach introduced you as the new manager, he didn't think much of you at first, just someone to appreciate for their help and time.

But before he knew it "Good morning" became a silent thought of "How do you look so pretty?". "I'll see you tomorrow!" turned into Yoichi changing his route home so he could be with you for a bit longer, even if he got home a lot later. The connection of manager and athlete was rewoven into lovers, by a bashful and stuttering confession from Yoichi.

And that was the initiation of his first relationship.

It's kept secret. At least for now. Not until Yoichi's ready, the concept of a relationship has always been so foreign for him. You're patient, you understand that it's all new and overwhelming for him.

His lack of experience never took anything away from the relationship. It's adorable despite his oblivion to what love is like. Behind the image of good friends hid sweet nothings uttered while no one was watching. Manager and athlete concealed the awkward yet sweet attempts to hold your hand. This 'friendship' of yours disguised the unfathomable love and adoration you possessed for each other.

"If I could share this little kindness, even a normal day like this will become a fantastic day."

The soft rattling of the bus accompanies the music, filtering out a bit of the noise from the rest of the soccer team.

He can hear his own heart beat too.

Even after getting together, something as simple as sharing earbuds with you is enough to make him blush.

He averts his attention from watching Bachira stealing stuff from Kunigami to his right, to you. And gosh, he swears his heart skipped a beat.

You're gazing out the window, he doesn't even have a full view of your face, yet he's so enamored with he's seeing. All of it's flawless, the sinking sun in the distance, pink hues mingling with yellow; the way the sky's remaining sunlight engulfs you, highlighting your features, cloaking you with radiance.

He's yours and you're his, it's been like that for the past month yet it still feels thoroughly unreal.

His hand reaches out to you, a gentle poke followed by an equally gentle pinch. It's an act of affection he learnt from you, after you begged to touch his cheeks after commenting how soft and 'squishy' they looked. Initially, he found it confusing, but didn't mind because of your satisfied reaction.

The action makes you turn towards him, slightly confused yet curious what he was doing, and it drives him insane how you're able to make him feel this way without doing anything at all.

"Just a bit more, just a bit more." The music continues in his ear.

"Yoichi? What's wr-"

Yoichi's lips replace his fingers, softly planting a kiss on your cheek. It leaves you dumbfounded, staring at him in disbelief. He's always been so shy, even holding hands was a big deal to him. Your fingers inch closer to where he kissed. "Wow..."

"Your lips are really moist."

He's caught off guard. "Shit, sorry, is that bad?" He tries to wipe his lips with his sleeve, but your hand catches his wrist.

"No, not at all." Yoichi's embarrassed at how you're laughing at his assumption, but he barely notices it, because the way you laugh is so pretty, everything is; but something about your laughter that makes him feel weak in the knees. "I liked it." The rosy colour appearing on your cheeks give him a sense of pride, though his face was probably a bright scarlet now.

"It'll be your lips next time." It's a mumble barely loud enough for you to hear, but his embarrassment is evident as he whispers out a flustered 'oh god'.

"I'll be looking forward to it." It's so unfair how your mere existence and words can fluster him so effortlessly. "Why all of a sudden though?" It wasn't too much of a risky move since everyone else was too preoccupied with their phones or each other, but it still piqued your curiosity.

"The music was really nice. And the sky was pretty. You were as well-, I mean you always have been and are-, yeah. It seemed perfect..."

"Oh god Yoichi, you always have and always will be perfect to me." As if your sweet words weren't enough, you rest your head against his shoulder, and his face somehow manages to heat up even more. "Oh we've arrived at the station, c'mon let's get home." Yoichi's not even sure if he's brave enough to venture out in public in such a flustered state.

The two of you patiently wait for everyone to catch their respective trains, after getting off the bus.

"Bye everyone, see you at practice."

"See ya." Bachira's always been a cheerful person, but this time his grin somehow entails more joy than usual. "Congratulations Isagi, thanks for the money."

"Huh? Money?"

Before either of you can ask for clarification, Bachira jumps onto Kunigami. "Hand over 1k! We win~!"

"You all owe us. Don't even try to hide from us I have a checklist." Nagi mumbles, and half of the team groan as they pull out their wallets.

"Um, Reo? Please clarify?" The soccer team was indeed odd, but this was inexplainable.

"They bet money on whether you were dating or not." Ah.

"Did you win?"

A smug smirk appears on his face. "Of course I did, I'm not an idiot." Why would winning a bet even matter to him when his family was the richest in Japan? "Isagi using too much lip balm?"

"Honestly I couldn't imagine Isagi pulling." Kunigami comments, the silent gasp and the look on Yoichi's face is absolutely priceless.

"Oi Kunigami, c'here." Yoichi almost pounces on Kunigami, who flees immediately. "And screw you Reo." He exclaims before chasing Kunigami.

"You owe me too, Kunigamikinnikun." Chigiri calls out. "I'll see you tomorrow, hope he doesn't give you a hard time." And soon he's off to sprint after Kunigami.

Well, there goes your 'secret'.

Skip, Julie here. I worked for 43 years in fantastic jobs. Some as an employee, in HR, and in Senior Management. My employers were very well known Companies or Government. They had sick leave policies where employees from CEO to newest employee were entitled to medical leave and privacy of all medical information.

As a Manager I was aware of some very serious medical issues and we offorded those people complete privacy. Time to heal was dependent on their medical team despite how much they might have been needed in the workplace (perhaps being the only person with authority or highest level skill to deal with something vital).

A couple of these medical issues dealt with very serious surgery plus complications, and convalescence to deal with consequences of how their bodies or lives were changed and the mental processes they had to go through to understand and accept the changes.

Under no circumstances would I have ever thought it necessary to inform the other employees what was happening with the ill employee other than to update the return date. These people worked closely together but knew the value of allowing the one who was ill the time and space to fully recover. My contacting the employee for an update on whether they needed us was their choice to make, not mine or the company.

Princess of Wales is a senior member of a firm and a much loved member of a family. In her case she has a world wide family who care that she has been seriously ill and as family members we just want her to fully recover physically and mentally from her ordeal. We care and I think that says so much about how highly people around the world think of her.

As a senior member of the firm her bosses are aware of her illness and prognosis and have given her sick leave based on medical advice. I know the taxpayers of the UK keep up the mantra of BRF works for us, we pay them. Ok they are shareholders in the Company and they have an interest in ensuring the Company is providing the service they expect from it. The Company is BRF but no Company provides health information on senior employees except the CEO for obvious reasons. The company continues to operate even if a very important senior staff member is unwell.

My personal view is Catherine has been through a major abdominal surgery that has immediate and long term consequences for her. For HER, her husband and her 3 children. She does not owe any of us an explanation or an update. She loves her job and she does it brilliantly. She is totally loyal to King and Queen, her parents, siblings and the Commonwealth. She will never intentionally cause harm to her husbands family members.

People need to give her the same space we would all expect if we were seriously ill. I know people want to know what happened to her but really it is none of our business. Our role is to allow her time to fully heal so she can return to her role in the Company as soon as possible. No doubt she is already working behind the scenes.

I’m sorry this is long winded but I feel for her. 20 years of trying to please everyone yet when she needs some help people turn on her some will be because they are worried others for their own reasons. People need to send a private message of support but otherwise let her heal.

Princess of Wales, Catherine, God bless and keep you and your family fully protected and return you to full health We await your return, with patience, to your essential role for the Monarchy and we look forward to seeing you with your beautiful family vase soon as you feel you are fully recovered.

This is a lovely, thoughtful post Julie…no not too long. I greatly appreciate the time and your experience you have shared with us. I am quite proud of the fact that the people that come to this blog, are sensitive and caring and express nothing but support for Catherine and her family. People are so concerned with “accountability “ these days….people are simply forgetting that behind the public life….is a real life going on, and people are dealing with all the same issues as everyone else. The old “walk a mile in my shoes” comes to mind! Thank YOU again Julie!🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Why do some people think that stories portraying darker subject matter is always an inherently bad thing?

I’ve recently encountered this weird mindset in regards to certain online fandom spaces, wherein people will argue that fictional characters experiencing intense trauma and pain is somehow inherently problematic and negatively reflects on the creator’s skills or ethics. This feels like such a narrow-minded and shallow understanding of a piece of media, since characters undergoing hardships is often a necessary element for them to grow and develop as the narrative progresses. Plus, while some stories can indeed be more intense and graphic in what types of trauma is depicted, it’s mere inclusion doesn’t automatically make the story or it’s author inherently bad. For instance, even though I personally haven’t read the manga series Berserk by the late Kentaro Miura (May he Rest In Peace…), based on what I’ve heard from others while the series does include graphic depictions of sexual assault which the main protagonist Guts suffered from in his past, said-assaults are NOT framed in a gross or exploitative way, but are instead utilized to analyze and discuss the character’s feelings of physical and psychological trauma derived from said-horrible events, and heavily factors into Guts' overall backstory and development as a character as he tries to heal from the violent trauma of his past and discover some sense of happiness in a bleak world.

And yet despite this I’ve encountered a few people accuse Berserk of being “pro-rape” or even outright stating that Miura “deserved to die” (which is an absolutely disrespectful and disgusting thing to say!) simply because he included these darker elements in his manga. Like... that's as stupid as someone claiming that Quentin Tarantino is automatically "pro-murder" simply because his movies include lots of scenes of characters killing each other.

I’ve also encountered far less overtly toxic examples of this kind bad faith media criticism in comic circles. Awhile I was incredibly confused when I saw some people on Twitter arguing that Saladin Ahmed was “ill-suited to writing teenage characters” simply because of two scenes in his Miles Morales: Spider-Man & Magnificent Ms. Marvel runs respectively, which involved Miles being tortured by the new supervillain, The Assessor (who would later make clones of Miles as a result), as well as the final battle between Ms. Marvel and her evil robot-duplicate Stormranger getting quite brutal at times (you could see blood from the impact Stormranger’s punch).

In regards to the Miles’ torture scene, I've seen a small number of people argue that the scene's existence was inherently inappropriate due to Miles' status as a Black minor, going as far as to label it as "dehumanizing" and "really insensitive to the real trauma of black boys." I'm not sure how I feel about this as those labels feel a tad extreme due to the fantastical nature of Miles' stories. Like, as brutal as the scene with the Assessor is, it’s at least given a more ficitional sci-fi vibe due to the high-tech laboratory, the Frankenstein operating table, and the fact that this whole ordeal leads directly into Miles' own version of Spider-Man: Clone Saga after The Assessor acquires Miles’ DNA in the process. So it feels less grounded and not as reflective of those real-life traumatic experiences Black men and boys unfortunately go through in the U.S. like I saw a few critics of Ahmed’s run claiming. Plus, Ahmed had Miles be rescued by both his father Jefferson Morales and Uncle Aaron Davis teaming-up together. So the narrative frames the Assessor’s torture of Miles as a bad thing whilst depicting two older Black men actively putting aside their personal differences in order to save their son/nephew as a major narrative focus as well. How exactly is it "dehumanizing" or "inappropriate" then?

And it seems like this bizarre criticism isn’t just limited to Twitter comic fandoms, since a certain Lily Orchard recently made an AWFUL video which outright accused animation fandoms and creators of “fetishizing the torture and abuse of POC women” in cartoons like The Legend of Korra, The Owl House, and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. As soon as I saw the thumbnail for that video I knew it was going to be an absolute dumpster fire.

In it, not only does Lily engage in those similar types of arguments like the ones I mentioned earlier about Saladin Ahmed’s portrayal of Miles & Kamala, but Lily went multiple steps further by outright accusing various scenes from The Legend of Korra, The Owl House & She-Ra of being “literal torture p*rn” and “fetishized abuse against POC women.” With Korra, Lily accused the scenes of Korra brutally poisoned with the Red Lotus’ liquid metalic venom, Korra still being significantly weakened by the poison during her final battle with Zaheer (causing her to fall and tumble down cliff-sides) and Zaheer trying to use his air-bending to suck the oxygen right out of Korra’s lungs (the same technique he previously used to assassinate the Earth Queen), plus the Unalaq fight from the Season 2 finale where extracts the Avatar spirit from Korra and kills all her past lives one by one with a water-whip as “white centrist writers being turned on by the trauma and torture of a woman of color.”

And in regards to She-Ra, Lily accused Catradora shippers of being an example of fandom going “full mask-off” simply because she found 2 or 3 random comments defending Catra’s abusive behavior prior to her gradual redemption arc in the final season simply because they found the Adora & Catra fights “hot” (which I know for a fact does NOT represent the entirety or even majority of the She-Ra fandom & Catradora shippers).

It’s just… I honestly don’t understand why Lily is describing these scenes as “torture p*rn” or “abuse fetishizing.” Like, it’s not unexpected for characters to undergo traumatic crap during their story arcs, and most often it’s for the purposes of raising the dramatic stakes of the conflict or to have said-characters eventually undergo some sort of positive change arc (which is what happens in both Korra and She-Ra btw). While the abuse Korra suffers at Zander’s hands is indeed violent, it’s intentionally disturbing and off-putting in order to increase the viewer’s suspense and fear over whether or not the main character will get out of this alive. Personally, when I first watched the Season finale of “Book 3,” I was on the edge of my seat and constantly worried for Korra’s survival, and while she is left physically and psychologically scarred by the whole ordeal I’ve heard that the entirety of “Book 4” (which I still haven’t seen BTW) focuses on Korra healing from her trauma and becoming more spiritually enlightened in the process. YouTuber and MarySue author, Princess Weekes, though had some interesting analyses about Korra’s portrayal of overcoming trauma and how its heavily rooted in East Asian philosophy, despite Weekes' overall mixed feelings about the series in general:

And while I can’t comment on The Owl House (again, haven’t watched any of it), I can say that Lily’s characterization of Catradora as “torture p*rn/abuse fetishization” is 100% wrong since the show frames Catra’s behavior towards Adora and others throughout Seasons 1-4 as toxic and unhealthy, and Season 5 is all about her fixing herself on her own volition after realizing the harm she’s caused, and it’s only AFTER all of that when Adora & Catra become lovers. But the way Lily describes the scenes in Korra & She-Ra (which are honestly pretty PG in their levels of brutality despite being fairly dark for family-friendly animation) you’d think she was talking about some over-the-top violently explicit tentacle hentai or something, as she even goes as far as to compare the Korra & Zaheer fight to FREAKING The Passion of the Christ (seriously… Lily actually compared Korra to Mel Gibson's antisemitic guilt-tripping exploitation film which unnecessarily stretches out Jesus' torture and crucifixion; which in the Bible occurred in just a few brief passages instead of 2-and-a-half hours like in the movie).

Geez… given how Lily so inaccurately mischaracterizes these scenes from Korra and She-Ra, I’d honestly hate to see she’d react to Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is heavily centered around the characters suffering from intense depressive episodes and experiencing emotional breakdowns, whilst also including lots of psychoanalytical and disturbing imagery. Knowing Lily, she’d probably ignore the fact that NGE’s director Hideaki Anno was suffering from severe depression while creating the series (which heavily influenced the show’s overall production and themes), and instead accuse all the depictions of depression and trauma in EVA of being “unrealistic” and “inaccurate” since according to her all fictional depictions of trauma are inherently inaccurate since there’s no one universal depiction of trauma (Lily actually said that in her terrible video), and accuse all of the series’ violent and sexual imagery of being “torture p*rn” whilst calling Anno a “perverted abuse-fetishizing creep who is turned on by torture” (which feels incredibly SWERFy on Lily’s part, as well as needlessly hostile towards people who are into BDSM or sado-masachism and practice it safely and consensually) just like she did to the creators of Korra, Owl House, and She-Ra (even though NGE and especially the movie The End of Evangelion is highly critical of exactly that kind of gross and toxic behavior within Japanese Otaku subcultures).

So my overall question is this: why do Lily and some other people think that including intense trauma or brutal torture scenes in comics or animation, even when said-scenes they're framed in the story as bad things are inherently “problematic,” “dehumanizing,” “fetishistic,” or “torture/trauma p*rn”? It's like... I can understand not wanting to stomach intensely violent or depressing scenes if they can't handle them, or being critical if they feel unnecessarily mean-spirited or exploitative, but often times having darker elements is an unavoidable aspect of giving a story a sense of conflict. Conflict is necessary in order to have a plot or to develop characters, except it feels like a lot of people on social media believe that the mere inclusion of any type of darker conflict or subject matter is inherently ethically dubious regardless of how its framed within the overall narrative.

I just don't get this kind of mentality and why it's become so prevalent online these days... I really don't...

T_T at least they're a team but I wanted a naruseku sweep ( ≧Д≦)

Narcistoru/secretoru: Yeah i can gurantee this is the only submission for them for Some Reason. Because no one ships them. Like i have searched the internet far and wide and turn up with like. Close to literal zero. And here's the thing, this is entirely illogical. They work together in this evil group and their deals are essentially that they're. Unhappy people. At first you think they're just annoying but actually they're annoying snd Extremely Miserable. In silly ways, they are such losers and so cringefail. I could write an essay on both of them individually, but basically i love how their focus isn't on being better people, it is on being happier. Individually.

The show is divided into clear parts of who is the main antagonist at the time which really makes you FEEL how unhappy they each are. They're a group but they're also not bc they choose to be unhappy ad get on each other's nerves about it and that's a prime focus of their characters. Anyway, these two make me insane, they spend a lot of time together during the middle part of the show, bc the first villain is gone so now it's just the two of them and their leader who isn't doing much yet. After this part, one of them, narcistoru, is defeated so he's gone for the time being. But these two, they hate each other SOOOOOOOO much it's insane. This is because Narcistoru is an annoying bitch and Secretoru hates that. And they're both generally insane people with dumb beliefs and issues that they view wrongly. It's just so glorious to see them annoy each other so much. Post Narcistoru's main screen time, he gets his conclusion episode. He escapes from prison and Secretoru is supposed to retrieve him. But like not because they need him, in fact, they absolutely did not care that he was arrested because none of these people give a flying fuck about each other. It's just that he wasn't supposed to be a risk. Secretoru and Narcistoru have a rather petty and hilarious fight. Because you see. Now they don't have to get along. They are not on the same side. So the hostility is really thriving here. In fact, she manages to capture him, and while fighting the pretty cures (magical girls), hensays some annoying shit and she goes "actually i changed my mind" and shoves him off this rock in order for the monster (they always summon one) to fucking kill him. Like she tries to murder him in cold blood soley because he's annoying and this was entirely inevitable actually. She wants that twink obliterated. They don't bring this up again in the finale when they're both in prison. They just. Kind of hang out now. They've reached a level of tolerance.

And you may think "why do you ship this" LOOK. THEIR INTERACTIONS. ARE SO FUNNY. IT'S JUST. A VERY FUN SHIP. BECAUSE THEY'RE HILARIOUS. The hostility is so great and i think it would be neat if they had some t4t hatesex. It would solve nothing. They mske each other so much worse. But it would be very hot. Also secretoru has a general "can you shut the fuck up" attitude towards him. I don't even technically ship it but i ENJOY the ship.

And yet. I am so alone in this which is insane because i definitely expected ship content for them even before i actually wanted it myself.

But no, of course people ship Narcistoru with actual fifteen year olds. Like so much. And there is ZERO content for the ship with the other Actual Adult that he interacts with on a regular basis and who he has a fantastic and entertaining and INTERESTING dynamic with. So basically, i am not just sad, i am also SO SALTY. They are so insanely rarepair despite being an absolute epic duo. Awesome crackship, 10/10, literally comedy

Obiwan/grievous: Ok so this is a HUGE crackship and some people are not going to agree but like, Obi-Wan is what comes to mind when you think of the jedi and Grievous hates the jedi as a whole because he believes them to the cause of his mutilation and the suffering of his people, but the jedi are not the ones who did this. Grievous is a pawn in the game of the sith and he doesn't realize that his mind has been altered against his wishes or that he will be desposed of as soon as the war ends. Obi-Wan is a compassionate man and is able to consistently go toe to toe with Grievous, making him a rival Grievous can't help but respect in a weird way (his people are warriors, for all we know, fighting could be a method of flirting to his people yaknow? And obiwan genuienly flirts as a way to throw off his enemies, think of the comedic potential if Obi-Wan didnt realize how MUCH hes been a flirt or if Grevious acctualy gets flustered by it because obiwan is such a competent fighter and IF ONLY HE WASNT THE ENEMY-) If Obi-Wan knew what happened he would have tried to make amends and help his people, and if Grievous learned that it was Dooku (a former jedi turned sith) who turned him into a monster against his will, he'd probably be willing to team up with Obi-Wan to bring down Dooku and the Sith plans for Galactic domination to avenge and to protect his people, and they would be an absolute powerhouse since they are already familiar with eachothers way of fighting and from a writers point of view its filled with so much potential angst and drama, and hijinks, and even enhances the plot and creates parallels between the two that the franchise has never bothered to make and it has so much potential even if they don't fall in love they could be really good friends/partners/allies and if order 66 goes as planned they would be badass rebels its such an overlooked possible dynamic PLEASE 🥺

Nightmare Polycule: The cursed creation of like. 4 people on a niche fandom discord. Polycule consisting of pretty much every adult character in the series. It's awful and somehow the best thing ever. The potential for both crack and angst is unmatched. The divorced parents energy is OFF THE CHARTS. Marcia realizes she is a morosexual and has a crisis about it. Gringe confronts his prejudices by falling for a no-good wizard. Jillie Djinn is Marcia's ex and also dead and also GHOSTING ON HER COUCH which makes it very hard to bring her boyfriends over. Marcellus tries to be dramatic about the fleetingness of human life (except his) and gets made fun of until he confronts his trauma instead. Sarah and Mrs Gringe are having tea and getting a break from the drama.

The more I think about it the more I realize that the teams, while super unbalanced, are all respectively good at different things over all.

Red is THE lore guys. (minus literally half the team that doesn't log in) Green is the power house. Blue is the strategy guys.

I am super partial to green team (blame Fit for that). But I think because they are all good at different things it makes it harder to gauge one, who the cursed group is (arguments can be made for all of them), and two if they play their strengths literally any of them could win.

The one thing I did notice from the get go is that in terms of leadership....Green team is unfortunately the worst. They chose Etoiles as their leader, but most of them do listen to him. I personally think that he's just a little too soft spoken for some of the other team members that are louder and more head strong. I by no means think that Etoiles can't be a good leader though. I think he can and would be a fantastic leader if some of them actually listened to him (cough Forever). I noticed it especially on the fist day while watching Fit. Fit was trying to take them to the place where they turn in the global tasks, but everyone kept yelling and wandering off and talking over Etoiles or trying to tell them they should go or do something else (Forever, unfortunately, is the example I'm going to continue to use here). You could tell just by looking at Fit that he was genuinely getting angry. He looked like he wanted to say something, but he didn't. When he did speak his tone was very irritated. So while I am cheering for the green team...I don't think they are going to win despite calling themselves the winning team.

That being said...Red, while behind, I think have a really good chance to make a come back. They did win day 2. And Blue dominated day 1. I wasn't really watching them, so I can't really offer more insight...But those are just my thoughts.

I MEANT TO ANSWER THIS THIS MORNING I AM SO SORRY. i think forever and etoiles can actually work together decently well, i feel like a lot of their disagreements come down to etoiles being softspoken + forever having a very bold speaking tone in english (neither of these are negative, it's just how the two are), and the fact they have to communicate in english. like i truly believe the amount of miscommunication between those two is down to the fact theyre working in a language that neither of them are fluent in.

i think honestly green can work together they just like... need to get more people online.

2016 Malaysian GP

Round 16, we are in Malaysia. Lewis is on pole for the 57th time.

Here's how they line up behind him : Nico, Max, Danny, Seb, Raikkonen, Perez, Hulkenberg, Jenson and Massa. Max has outqualified Daniel for the third time this season.

In the drivers' parade Lewis praises the support he gets from the fans, as usual. He says the team has been doing a great job this weekend and the car feels great. It's gonna be a tough race. It's a long run down to turn 1 and the track is very hot, they'll be melting their tyres.

Oh and Mercedes can win the WCC already. The drivers have an interview. Separately of course. Lewis says he's been 43 points behind in the championship, and he's been 50 points ahead, he's been in all sorts of scenarios and he doesn't know "what's planned up ahead" and he's just gonna make sure he's as prepared as he can. He says he's had an incredible amount of support during the year and he's very grateful for that.

Nico says despite the fact he won last time and that feels good it doesn't make a world of a difference when it comes to confidence either. He's motivated and he knows he has the opportunity to win. He's going all out for sure.

Lewis says in terms of fighting for a championship with a good enough car to do so, it's definitely been one of the most unusual ones. But he's hungry and he wants to win the championship, not only for himself but for the people traveling the world and supporting him and who want this championship just as much as he does (that's cute!), because he wants to be able to share that with them.

Nico says for him what's important is being in the moment and focusing on what's at hand and not something that's two months down the road and could or could not be. He doesn't find it helpful.

Lewis says it's the closest fight Nico and he have had at this point of the year, and Nico has been driving fantastically well the last few races and generally most of the year.

They tell Nico Lewis said he's been driving incredibly well this year, I'm looking closely but he has absolutely zero reaction. He says he doesn't feel different at all this year, he just keeps fighting, he's massively motivated and there's the opportunity to win races so he's pushing all the way. Kind of half-heartedly, it feels like, he adds that Lewis is of course driving really well as always and he's always tough to beat. "Beating him is even more of a thrill because he is the world champion." She asks like she asked Lewis if it's the closest battle on track they've had. He's amused. They've been fighting for years, he says, and it's not different this year. "It's the same. Every race you get to it's a massive challenge to beat Lewis, and everybody else who's out there, but especially Lewis, of course, because he has the best car together with me. So same as always." She asks if he thinks he has the car to win the championship this year. He says he doesn't want to focus on that, he has the car that he needs to win the next race, that's what's important. It's incredible that they can win the WCC already with so many races left.

Lewis thinks it's more satisfying and valuable than any other year because of what he and his engineers and his side of the garage have achieved because of what they've been through.

She asks Nico if he can win this year. He says he's fighting to give the best he can out there, he's going into it optimistically. He'll push all the way to the end. Lewis is his team-mate so nothing has changed, it's always gonna be difficult against him to win races and for the bigger picture. He beat him the previous year and nothing's changed but he'll give it everything.

She asks Lewis if he thinks he has the car he needs to win the championship. "We've definitely got the car," he says. "The car YOU need," she interrupts. He thinks. He sighs. "Time will tell," he smiles. "I mean honestly it's definitely been an interesting one as I said compared to the previous years so… Do I know for sure? I don't. But I'll do the best job I can with what I can and push as hard as I can as the guys with me will." At the end of the year they'll have to evaluate and see how they can make sure that the next year is better.

See the thing is, in the end Nico will always have won against someone he saw as better than him and Lewis will always have lost against someone he saw as not as good as he is.

Oh apparently there were rumours Max fainted after FP1. Horner says he just got light-headed because he got out and up a bit too quickly.

There's a whole segment about F1 rivalries, of course they show multi-21, Piquet getting physical with Salazar, and Schumacher on his way to punch Coulthard. Brundle brags about trying to punch two drivers himself : Jonathan Palmer (but they became friends instead) and Bertrand Gachot (but when he got there the queue was too long). He says Alesi threatened to kill him because they came together too many times. Of course he compares that to Massa and Lewis in 2011 (remember? Massa wouldn't talk to him anymore and Lewis was kinda sad about it). We also see Prost and Senna colliding in the first lap, Mansell remembering how Piquet would say things about his family and children and pay media people to attack them and then he paid people in the team as well, what a piece of shit. We also review Max's record sheet already.

Alright we're ready for the race. Formation lap. Massa's car doesn't start, he can still go if he's able to leave before the last car passes him. He can't. He'll have to start from the back if he can start at all. He got it going from the pitlane now. Palmer reports he's losing power. Now Lewis is already in his spot and waiting.

Okay here we go. Oh no wait. The green flag has been waved and we're waiting, and waiting… Just as the first light lights up, we hear Sainz reporting his engine has switched off.

But they're racing!

Everybody gets going. Lewis has a decent start, he stays ahead of Nico, followed by Max and Seb who got ahead of Daniel. OOOH in turn 1 Seb takes the inside line and gets ahead of Verstappen but they touch slightly AND NICO SPINS! Crofty can't keep up, it's chaotic and also for some reason they're showing us Max's on-board even though we're not even past the second corner and now is not the time for it. Seb is down all the way to the back– oh yeah. His front axle is broken. He stops by the side of the track. He says he made contact with the Mercedes. Nico is still going but he's down in 21st apparently. It's a virtual safety car. Max : "Really Sebastian is crazy." It was a daring move I agree but it's not like Max is not pulling similar stuff every other race. Oh and right as I press play again Crofty reminds us Max did the exact same thing in Belgium and got a lot of heat from Ferrari for it. Alonso went from last on the grid to P13 in the meantime. And Gutierrez has a fully delaminated puncture. Magnussen might have a problem as well, with his floor touching the ground even at low speed. Kvyat and Massa are in the pits, they're getting rid of the soft tyres and fitting hards. Magnussen is in as well, and Gutierrez, and they're both able to go back out. Max again : "Yeah mate I mean he fucking crashed into Rosberg like an idiot". Careful now going around insulting people, child.

Watching the replays. So Seb got a good start and took the inside line as I said. He gets slightly ahead of Max before the corner, and so Max is on his left side, and Nico on Max's left side, also slightly ahead of him. As they turn, Max is sandwiched. His front right touches Seb rear left. Nico and Seb are on trajectories that will obviously cross, not parallels. Nico puts his car ahead of Max and Seb is right there, on his line, and collides with him. His front left catches on Nico's right rear which sends Nico spinning while Seb is forced to go straight because of the contact, instead of taking the corner as usual, taking Max, who's still on his left side, to the other side of the track with him. Thankfully no one collected Nico while he was facing the wrong way. From the aerial view, Crofty thinks Max turned in on Seb but I disagree. Nico turned in on Max who had nowhere to go but into Seb. I think the issue is Nico. I mean it's a racing incident and it warrants no penalty or anything but the accident happened because Nico turned in on them and got in their way. Classic three car start shenanigan.

While we're watching the replays, the virtual safety car is ending. Ted says Sainz was able to go because he restarted his own engine and Magnussen lost his front wing in a contact with Gutierrez probably, which would explain the damage on both cars. Incredibly Max still manages to be P3 behind Ricciardo and Lewis. Then it's now Raikkonen, Jenson, Hulkenberg, Valtteri, Grosjean, and Sainz. Raikkonen overtakes Perez for P4. Nico is P15. P14. Daniel is closing on Lewis, he has DRS. Alonso is in P10, up TWELVE places already. Lewis sets the fastest lap, and Ricciardo is out of DRS range. Alonso up in P9. Massa is told he has a front puncture and he has to box again. Lewis keeps pulling away from Daniel. Nico up in P12. And that's Grosjean out in the gravel, while we hear Max say it's difficult to stay behind (Ricciardo, editor's note), and he's getting closer. He's told to just manage the gap for the moment then. He answers "yeah but I can fight Lewis." So basically asking for team orders. Virtual safety car. It's probably a brake failure for Grosjean, he got to the corner and couldn't make the turn nor slow down, it seems. He's walking away. On the radio he said : "Okay I braked but the brakes 'breaked'."

It's lap 10, they pit Max. I'll update you on the order once the stops are over. Crofty says the skysports team has analysed the start again and they can confirm there was no contact between Max and Seb at the start. I told you he wasn't the problem this time. Perez pits as well. Nico tells his team to keep an eye on his left front because he ran over some debris. "Okay delta positive first," he's told. "Yeah yeah yeah yeah," he shrugs off, "I'm getting the delta positive." He pits as well. Okay so : Lewis, Daniel +4.6, Raikkonen +5.6, Max +14.9 after his stop, Valtteri +0.5, Sainz +1.0, Ocon +6.7, Ericsson +0.4, Perez +6.3 and Palmer +0.9. Nico is P14. They go again as the VSC ends. P13. P12. Max has clear air to close to the top 3 and as things stand he'll be ahead of them after their pit stops. We'll see if that early stop plays in his favour. Shortly after they note he only matches Ricciardo and he's not faster. Fastest lap from Lewis. And actually Max fastest lap now. Daniel is told Lewis is slowly pulling away. But he really isn't pulling away all that much. The gap is pretty much stable at 3.6. Nico up in P9 in the meantime. Ocon is under investigation for speeding in the pitlane. Oh nvm the gap to Daniel is up to 4.4 now. But Max is still gaining on them. Nico attacks Perez, P8. Ocon gets a 5 second penalty. Nico up in P7. Magnussen has to retire the car. Nico up in P6. Max is told it would be good to catch and overtake Raikkonen. He's 1.4 away.

It's lap 20. I can't tell you the times because they're showing the number of pit stops instead. Max is 0.8 behind Raikkonen now. He's ready to attack. Almost, almost. DRS. And Raikkonen pits. Lewis as well. It was a 2.4 stop. Nico is up in P5 and Raikkonen gets out just ahead of him. Valtteri is also half a second behind them. Daniel pits. Verstappen is told to push a bit more. Lewis gained 0.3 on his out lap on hard tyres. Max is on softs, and they're getting old now. Here's the situation : Max, Lewis +7.8, Daniel +9.1, Raikkonen +7.8, Nico +1.6, Valtteri +3.1, Perez +6.7, Jenson +4.6, Hulkenberg +1.0, and Alonso +1.5. Gap at the front : 7.0. 6.8. 6.6. He's kinda stuck behind Gutierrez, who's seen 2 blue flags already. He gets ahead finally. It cost Lewis half a second, but he gains it back quickly. Max says he's losing grip. 6.5. 6.1. Max pits. Excellent stop as usual. He's out behind Daniel, and Lewis is back in the lead. Here's the thing now, everybody is hoping to one-stop, but we're just halfway through the race. Max is now the one with the fresher hard tyres. Can they really stay out?

Lap 30. Valtteri pits. Lewis, Daniel +12.4, Max +4.5, Raikkonen +4.3, Nico +3.0, Perez +17.2, Jenson +7.1, Valtteri +10.5, Palmer +4.4, and Sainz +1.6 is under serious pressure from Ericsson. Lewis is completing fastest lap after fastest lap. They're trying to get a gap that would allow them to pit if necessary, I imagine. Nico, who was one of if not the first to pit for hard tyres, is now losing pace. He pits again. Out in P6. Other people start pitting. The one-stop won't work. Raikkonen is in. He's still ahead of Nico. Lewis is still extending his gap ahead. 18 something seconds now. Lewis says his tyres are starting to drop a bit. Nico gets DRS over Raikkonen. Ocon is investigated for speeding in the pitlane AGAIN. Lewis is literally yelling blue flags over radio. Mercedes is stressed out, we see Vowles nervously shaking his legs on the pit wall and then winking to the camera.

Raikkonen asks for all the power he can get to defend against Nico. Max is very close to Daniel now as well. Bono reassures Lewis : "OK Lewis these are great lap times. Just keep your head down, mate, you’re doing a great job." Nico attacks Raikkonen. They touch! Ocon gets a 5 second penalty AGAIN. Nico is ahead. Max is half a second behind Daniel. Daniel defends. Max overtakes him but they're wheel to wheel! Daniel stays ahead! The contact between Nico and Raikkonen is under investigation.

It's lap 40. Lewis, Daniel +22.3, Max +0.5, Nico +28.3, Raikkonen +1.4, Valtteri +23.7, Perez +3.5, Alonso +1.4, Hulkenberg +4.0, and Jenson +13.1. Max attacks again but can't make it. There's a very young Pierre looking on from the garage.

(Blunder years)

OH NO, NO FUCK NO. Oh I quit. I hate this fucking sport.

Okay I've taken a break but Lewis' engine is on fire. He's out. I'm losing my mind. Oh fuck that shit honestly. How unlucky can he get? It's a virtual safety car.

"Lewis is stopped, okay? Lewis is out of the race. The two RedBulls are leading now," Nico is told. Both RedBulls pit. Max lost just a bit of time in the car stacking. Nico pits as well. Gutierrez is also out of the race. His front left is missing. He lost it. It wasn't bolted in correctly I think. The VSC is ending. I so do not care about the end of this race. Thankfully Max is closing on Daniel so hopefully they at least pull off something funny.

10 laps to go. Nasr retires. Oh and I missed the part where Nico got a 10 second penalty for his collision with Raikkonen. But well he almost has a 10 second gap to Raikkonen now. And the RedBulls aren't being funny after all. Boring to the end.

It's the end of the race.

Daniel wins ahead of Max and Nico.

Unfortunately we get Lewis' interview during the celebratory lap so it's a tiny image in an image type of thing and I can't gif it. He says he just gotta move on. Everybody did a fantastic job during the weekend and they all did everything they could. He did everything he could. "I just can't believe," he says, rubbing his forehead, shadowing his eyes, "that (? I can't understand what he says) and only my engines are the ones that have been going this year. I just uh… Something just doesn't feel right but. There's nothing I can do about it." She asks : "in terms of luck or…?" he shakes his head "Something just doesn't feel right." (Seriously what are you insinuating this is insane.) She asks if he was turning up the engine to get a gap at all, he shakes his head. No, she says for him. He says it's a brand new engine, he's done one race with it, he did, he thinks, FP3 with it and qualifying. It's one of the three brand new engines he took in Spa. He chuckles somewhat. He says it is what it is and we move forward, and try to continue driving as he drove this weekend. "It's just odd. There's been like 43 engines from Mercedes and only mine have gone." (Didn't Nico have insane bad luck in 2015? It's very frustrating, also as a viewer, but that's just how it goes sometimes.) She says he told him in their interview that he's had bigger gaps before in the championship and he came back. He says right now he doesn't even believe– he corrects himself : “I don't even know if my car is gonna make it”. He says for these next 5 races he knows he, his engineer and his mechanics have it in them but who knows what the next engines that he has are gonna do, he chuckles dryly. He's just gonna keep his head down and hope for the best. But this wasn't a good day.

I don't really care about this podium and the shoeys. Nor Webber multi-21/33 joke.

Paddy finds himself talking to Ted and saying no engine failure is planned and it's a tough sport and there's no intention or individual performance reason for what happened.

Now it's Niki talking to skysports. He says he's really upset about himself and his organisation because they let Lewis down with this engine failure. He says anything can happen but they have to analyse carefully what happened to this fairly new engine. He is very sorry. He's asked how he's gonna appease him after this. He says he's taking him to Japan the next morning in his plane. He chuckles. He says he hopes he can "bring him up" because the "champion(ship) is over when the last race is over". He now has to make up 23 points which is a lot, "but you never know what happens to the other guy". She asks how he's going to convince him that it is just bad luck and not someone doing this to him. Niki says he can convince him that certainly they (he says we) haven't done anything against him. "They're people working for him, we are proud of him, and these things happen." He says from their point of view they do everything to make sure he finishes his races "and he had finished so many races, he won already two championships so on this side we are well balanced." Unfortunately this has happened, he understands Lewis is upset, he will apologise to him, and they have to keep going.

Toto says they all talked and they need to keep pushing and not let Lewis or Nico down. He also says Lewis had different failures every time, it's a mechanical sport, and he thinks Lewis knows that no one is sabotaging him, basically. He doesn't use the word sabotage though. Simon says clearly Toto is aware of Lewis saying someone or something doesn't want him winning this championship. "You know what he meant," Toto says, and he points his hand to the sky and looks up. Simon says "fair enough, so you think if we spoke to him now he would probably have a different opinion." Yes, Toto says in a tone I've never heard him use. He says he understands that in such a situation you're so frustrated you're trying to find an explanation. There is no rational explanation for what's happening. Everything comes to your mind. He says it's completely understandable and acceptable. He apparently told the team that they're really awesome and got applauded for it in their meeting just before this interview or something. Brundle asks if Lewis is going to have to take a new engine and a penalty again. Toto says no, they still have two engines for him. One brand new and one 3 races old.

Btw it was Jenson's 300th start and McLaren turned their hospitality in a British pub for the occasion. Lewis dropped by to celebrate at some point in the weekend. Alonso also did but well, they're teammates.

Finally Mercedes apparently tried to cancel Lewis' written media duty and the written media was very unhappy about that. Eventually Lewis came out to do his thing and skysports' written media colleagues said he said he's very happy with the team, it happens, bla bla bla and by something or someone not wanting him to win he really did mean a higher power like Toto said.

Ok so, the new episode has evoked multiple trains of thought in my head and although they all are related to the buck/tommy/eddie situation, i think it makes sense to put them down in several categories here:

Overall feel of the show at abc: i'm gonna say that the show definitely feels a bit unsettled after the network change, they seem to have a hard time balancing personal relationship plots and actual firefighter stuff. I know a lot of the cases in previous seasons were silly but they were still believable. The whole cruise disaster thing was just so over the top and now in the last 2 episodes there has been next to no action. The promo for next week's episode looks kinda like absolute mayhem. I do believe the abc team will figure this out and that they just need a little time to get comfortable but it's defo noticeable.

Buck's character: completely removed from his new romantic relationship, i am soooo loving his coming out arc. They've shown 2 amazing coming out scenes and one (and a half) dates and yet the word bisexual didn't even need to be said!!! It just makes sense as a story on its own!! It feels so natural and buck seems so so happy and in love and settled and has gobsmacking chemistry with tommy. I love that we get to watch him make mistakes and get things right while figuring himself out, it just feels so close to real life and i think the writers (and actors) are doing a fantastic job here.

Tommy's character: OBSESSED WITH HIM. HE'S SO FUNNY. And i think he's an excellent first male love interest for buck because he doesn't beat around the bush. He's comfortable in his own skin and is very aware that he doesn't have to give that up for buck despite crushing on him hardcore. I love that he gives buck the space to make mistakes and come to terms with his bi-ness, but not at the expense of himself. He is a great mature influence on buck and i think will eventually help him to become confident in his sexuality in a way buck may have taken way longer to do on his own. Which leads me to ...

The buck/tommy relationship: this is where things start to get complicated. My head says "let's microanalyse every scene in regards to buddie" but my heart says "enjoy how fucking cute buck and tommy are being on screen right now". I DON'T WANT THEM TO BREAK UP. AT ALL. THEY ARE CRAZY ABOUT EACH OTHER. WHIPPED, IN FACT!!! I do think buck/tommy isn't "endgame" per se but i do think they fit so well together, they should be given the opportunity to last a little while at least. Buck needs someone like tommy now who will hold him accountable while being entirely sympathetic. It's a great dynamic that i would be very sad to see go (and so would buck i think because i have never seen heart eyes that intense on that man before....)

Buck/eddie: look. I can't unsee it, just like everybody else. Doesn't matter how cute tommy and buck are, i hold my breath whenever buck and eddie share a scene now. There's some weird shit happening there. I think the writers have been very clever with the latest episode because it leaves buck and eddie on good terms without insinuating what exactly comes next. Buck is completely focused on tommy right now (which is good!) and eddie has his own stuff going on, so a rushed buddie arc would make zero sense right now. As a lot of people have already said, buddie is very much a long-haul game and while we can start to see seeds at this point, i'd hate to rush into it. Cause the slow burn is part of the fun right :D right ????

Eddie: eddie. My silly goose. I love what they're doing with him this season. He seems so much more able to let loose and enjoy himself. He's getting sillier and i love that for him. He also seems to have headspace for new things now.... such as recognising that he's limited by catholic guilt..... which is the number one symptom of being into hot godly women.... right ... right..... I'd probably kill a man to quiz the writers on how they came up with the concept of eddie/tommy. Because that means they've thought about how gay eddie would make sense. They will have discussed his motivations and experiences over the last few seasons and recontextualised them. And mould them into the life of a closeted gay man. Gnawing. Clawing, even.

Conclusion: buck/tommy slay. Hate to see them go. Would love to see eddie be gay and get his own independent coming out arc just like buck did. Want them to be gay buddies for a while. And then see what that makes of the situation.....

Tf2 eating habits headcanons

Scout

Scout pretty much subsists on junk food and whatever he can make with minimal effort. Sandwiches, scrambled eggs, anything canned.

Scout can't cook but he can sure as hell bake. He'd always help out in the kitchen whenever his ma baked and as such learned quite a bit about baking. He can separate the yolk from an egg surprisingly well and he just has a sense for knowing when he needs to adjust the recipe, before he's even made it

Everyone loves Scout's baking but they hate it when Scout bakes. The kitchen looks like a fucking bomb went off in it. Scout's messy when he bakes and if you think he's cleaning up after himself? HA!

Soldier

Army rations. Yeah, that's it. That's pretty much all Soldier eats. Maybe on special occasions, he'll have a hamburger or some apple pie but not very often. He's subsisting entirely on packaged rations from ww1 and everyone is deeply confused on how he's still alive.

Soldier has been banned from ever making dinner. EVER. Medic will beat him to death with his own shovel if he even so much as looks at the kitchen

Has also been banned from going on supply runs. Once he went out with Demo and the two of the blew up half the Tuefort general store. Spy was also present that day. He wishes he hadn't been.

Pyro

Pyro likes sweet things. Probably. No one has actually ever seen them eat. They'll grab glasses of chocolate milk and candy bars to presumably be eaten but fuck who knows? Maybe they're actually sacrificing it to a hellfire demon they're keeping as a pet

Despite the fact that no one's ever seen them eat, Pyro's actually a shockingly good cook. They're better over a campfire or a grill, but they're not bad on the stovetop.

Their dishes usually involve a lot of experimentation. They might start on a souffle recipe and by the end have created something that has no name know to man. What? They get bored.

Has shockingly never lit the kitchen on fire. The people (*cough* Spy) who criticize their cooking on the other hand...

Heavy

Iffy. He's good with ingredients he's used to, like bear meat and such, but give him something new and he's not really sure what to do with it...? Isn't afraid to learn though! The only one of the mercs that will actually read a cookbook.

Isn't all that picky with the food he eats. He can appreciate a good meal, but he'll also eat the charred messes that Scout produces

Spy's teaching him how to cook and it's going great! In return, Heavy's attempting to teach him the art of heavy weapons. This is going less great

Engineer

God-tier. His food is fucking fantastic... If you can get him out of his workshop to make it.

GO AWAY HE HAS WORK TO DO HE DOESN'T HAVE TIME TO COOK FOR YOU. Engineer doesn't even really feed himself. He usually eats whatevers quick enough for him to grab and go. Nothing and I mean NOTHING will draw Engineer away from his work for very long. Homeboy'll power through three solid days of experiments and emerge blinking from his workshop. When did he last eat? Uh... Tuesday, maybe?

Great with a grill. Knows lots of southern cuisine and when he actually gets going he can make the best food you've ever tasted. It will definitely offend him if you don't accept his food.

Demo

The best cook on the team. Cooking and baking give him the same thrill as chemistry. The only downside is they don't explode at the end, but Demo can fix that.

If he's drunk he may start experimenting which will either end in a hot mess or the nectar of the gods. Good luck trying to get him to remember the recipe he used though...

Pyro and Demo cook together a lot. The team wishes they wouldn't.

Makes a lot of flambés and puts alcohol in fucking everything.

Medic

No, I'm serious, think about it. How good do you think Medic could possibly be in the kitchen?

The answer is god awful.

He's much like Engie, where he'll get hyperfixated on his experiments and won't bother to eat. Honestly, he's feral enough to eat birdseed or pieces of his experiments if he's too lazy to go to the kitchen. What? It's not like he'll get sick. That's what the medigun's for.

Dragon Ball Z: Abridged Episode 26 Review

Hashtag three act structure.

So, there’s this relatively important idea to storytelling in Western culture called the three act structure (inciting incident, rising action, climax), and you’re probably familiar with it, but you might not be familiar with the idea prevalent among writers that every good story is composed of three act structures nested within one another down to the moment.1 The idea that it’s necessary for a story to be good is, of course, bullshit (and hella Euro-centric), but it’s a useful method for constructing a story.

I bring all this up because the fight against Freeza can be relatively easily divided into a three act structure, and nested within the first act of the fight (which is centered around his transformations) is a solid three act structure, with his arrival in his first form being the inciting incident, his second and third forms serving as the rising action, and the final form giving the first act its climax.

That’s important to “Alien vs. Piccolo,” as Team Four Star chose to speed through Freeza’s second and third forms and begin the third act of the fight in this episode. We get to see Piccolo kick the second form’s ass, get his ass kicked by the third form, and Freeza move past that to the final form all in the span of nine minutes, and despite this, it never feels particularly rushed.

I suspect that that is due to the fact that on its own, this is a pretty boring second act. Freeza’s transformation signifies that he has more power and therefore presents more of a challenge to their characters, but the slow and drawn out nature of his transformations means that they very quickly become uninteresting, as they basically are serving to stall until the real fight can begin. “Alien” gives us both “stalling” transformations at once though, and so we get to end on the high note of Freeza being in his final form, presenting the true nature of his challenge to the heroes.

The other reason this works so well is that Team Four Star wisely strays away from the actual fight against Freeza for the majority of the episode, opting to show us only key moments of Piccolo’s confrontation with Freeza. The rest of the time is spent on Vegeta’s escape attempt and subsequent plan for self-immolation, and we get some fantastic interactions between him, Krillin, and Dende as a result.

At the end, when Team Four Star focuses back in on Freeza for the last time, it’s to give us the perfect reminder of how threatening he is, regardless of power level, as he mercilessly murders Dende, our one and only white mage.

Love your game! Here’s Gabe and Naomi with pretty much the same numbers: 1,3, 4,5, 7,8,13.

1. When I think they became friends (if canon already hasn't showed how they became friends)

Despite what I've once written, when it comes to canon I really think they only met each other through Elena and their friendship happened gradually, though quite quickly, and you can see that they were already friendly with each other by Spellbound and I think they become real friends Blockheads.

3. A random headcanon I have of them

Once they became closer friends, they actually found out they have a lot in common and started to do stuff together outside of their jobs. In their case it's less about casual hanging out, but more about some projects of helping each other, like Gabe helping out at the port or that float they were doing with Marlena and Doña Paloma.

4. My favorite thing about them

How comfortable they are with each other (I'd say with Naomi it happens the fastest for Gabe) and from that comes their fantastic dynamic, how well they work together, their humour...

5. A scene I wish we had of them

I'd have to rewatch some episodes because we probably already had something like that, but picture this - Gabe (pre magic lessons) and Naomi taking on some magical foes and winning, by sheer power of teamwork, skill and strategy.

7. What makes me like their friendship

I'd say the same thing that is my favourite thing about them XD And since I'm a Gabe stan first and a person second, also the fact that we finally see Gabe being friendly with someone from the beginning (I'd say for Gabe theirs is the most "normal" friendship out of the Amigos). Also the fact that we get a lot of content for it in canon definitely helps, but it's not like non-canonicness of a dynamic has ever stopped me, but it helps, I can watch the show and just enjoy them, and not have to rely on the made up scenarios projecting on a 5zł projector in my brain.

8. Who I think is the ”crazier” one

Naomi, absolutely XD Though I don't know, neither of them seem very crazy to me, but I'd say that Naomi is more "daring" if anything.

13. What I think would have happened if they never met

Hmm okay now I'm stumped because in a way, nothing would change I think? I think they'd both be worse in some an ways and it'd take them longer to become a team (or well, maybe there even wouldn't be a team at all) but I lack any direct ways they influenced each other, like, I know there must be some, but I can't really see any now... If you or anyone have any thoughts about this please share them, I just know there has to be more to it...

And that would be it, thank you! I've now came to the conclusion that despite Gabe and Naomi having quite a lot of canon interactions, I don't really have a good grasp on them, I'll have to work on that...

This is not a dog at the last anon bc while I wasn’t a hardcore BS shipper I do love like morning follows night and think not fall in love with you is very cute. But as far as Teasing Moments, knowing Blake is bisexual actually makes the shift from BS to BB really cool? Yang was her teammate and friend, they were new to each other, so even with some initial physical affection and liking her Blake, who had just left a long term thing with Adam, wouldn’t want to rush or assume anything in a new friendship. But Sun who was very flirty from the get go and openly goofy was a Faunus like her so that’s how they connected, and while he was into her he wasn’t intense like Adam and wasn’t a close partner like Yang, so he was someone she could crush on in a safe way that wouldn’t ruin her team or anything like that.

But at the fall of Beacon when Adam set his sights on Yang, Blake realized her feelings for Yang ran deeper than a crush, and she left ALL of her friends behind. I know a lot of ppl don’t enjoy the fact that Sun followed her onto the boat, but his entire interaction with Blake during V4 and V5 is his own crush slowly taking a backseat bc he just wants to help Blake as his friend. He mentions Yang personally after he gets hurt and unlike Jaune in V8 I think Sun is able to pick up on Blake’s romantic feelings for Yang.

Not this anon but it makes me laugh / makes me mad when ppl say BS Deserve to be canon bc of the moments they shared and ignore that Sun as a character was willing to put those moments aside when he saw Blake was no longer looking at him that way or her crush was taking a backseat to the white fang issues as well as her feelings for Yang

Not to mention HOW MANY YA novels do the same thing where the main girl has a crush on two guys and has to pick between them? BS and BB are literally that trope but Sun is actually a good friend who cares about her and doesn’t try to kiss her to prove he’s Better. He’s a goof he can be too in your personal space at times. But he cares a great deal and seeing ppl say they want BS to be canon without taking these things into account make me wonder if they actually prefer the ship or just HATE BB. Bc BS is cute I like the concept, but if BB is bad bc they spent two volumes apart even if the girls didn’t “start” in V6 Blake has been away from Sun for going on four volumes now. So if they got together in V10 would ppl say it doesn’t make sense bc they weren’t around each other?

Again no hate to this anon or BS I think it’s cute I like their songs. But the butchering of Sun’s character is something I’ve seen for years and it’s always bothered me

Oh for sure - I get a lot of inboxes/messages to the effect of 'BS is better because Sun put in all the effort' and for me, like, I'm really respectful of BS as it's a valid ship even if it wasn't my cup of tea.

But one of my pet peeves is the concept that BS should have happened because Sun put in all the effort to help Blake overcome her fears while Yang 'just helped her with Adam', because it's so demeaning to Sun's character (and Yang's tbf) and how great of a friend he is (not to mention the fact that helping a friend out doesn't entitle you to a relationship with them), it just seems like a constant insinuation that all Sun's 'effort' was wasted because it didn't end in romance. I think Sun was a fantastic foil to Adam in handling rejection, because despite Blake being interested in someone else, Sun was a top guy about it and just so supportive. I love the fact that Blake and Yang started as friends, there's something in the supporting material as well that said Blake thought it would be easier to have been with a faunus too so I think that makes a lot of sense in the beginning. And tbh, it made a lot of sense for Sun to be the one to go to Menagerie with Blake, I think he was definitely the right one to go at that point. Partly because of it being a faunus settlement, because Sun has been invariably tied with the WF plot since he was introduced, but also to properly show that vital transition for Blake. Because even though Yang isn't there, it's prevalent throughout that they're both in each other's thoughts.

But yeah, you're spot on - the part that irks me most is the butchering of Sun's character in some of these takes. Like I said, BS was never my thing - had it happened, I wouldn't have been mad about it, and I think people should absolutely still enjoy the ship if that's their OTP and they deserve to, but yeah, everything you've said tbh!

Earlier this year I happened to stumble across a picture of one of Tamamo's sprites on Pinterest, and I HAD to find out who that gorgeous man was; Google reverse image search led me to your blog, and reading your fantastic IkeGen character analyses got me to download the game... so I have you to thank for my now all-consuming obsession. I adore reading your IkeGen content, your posts about it light up my dash and I would truly absolutely love to see more of it!)

Hi hello oh my gosh what a fun story! I'm glad to have been the catalyst for you liking Ikegen, and any time you want to screech about the characters or story I am always game to ;)

As for the backstory between Benkei and Kagetoki, it's Complicated for sure…but pretty fascinating. And I have written half an essay behind this cut LOL, all spoilers of course:

In Kagetoki's route we really get into the meat of the issue, when in that Seven Samurai setting I mentioned before Kagetoki and MC are forced to team up with a reluctant Benkei (who had been in the village for his own purposes) to free the townfolk. The two men call an VERY uneasy truce to deal with the situation, and MC eventually asks the story of what happened between them when she, Kagetoki, Benkei, and Yoichi are pressed into taking shelter together overnight during a storm when the fighting ends.

In history, as well as in the game, Kajiwara Kagetoki was originally on the side arrayed against the Minamoto - but eventually he changed his alliance. When Kagetoki first came to meet Benkei before the schism between bros, they did NOT get along despite being allies, with Kagetoki having been sent by Yoritomo to help Yoshitsune out. Benkei took issue with the way that Kagetoki planned his strategies and at one point literally shoved him against a tree and angrily told him that if he tried to make a target of anyone other than himself, he'd kill Kagetoki. (AKA you can use me as bait or a distraction etc but you can't do that to the rest of the soldiers, because as WE readers know at least, Benkei has super healing and can take a LOT of things dished out on him)

They were off to a rocky start for certain, and Kagetoki took Benkei at his word, using him freely in his tactics and plans, with Benkei still threatening to have his head on a near-daily basis. But a sort of grudging respect formed between them, Benkei allowing that Kagetoki is a brilliant man and Kagetoki reluctantly admiring Benkei's foritude and will. Things finally culminate in Benkei saving Kagetoki's life when he gets in a tough spot during battle (Kagetoki coming to witness first hand how seemingly nothing can take Benkei down) and they even literally do the FIGHT BACK TO BACK. Benkei trusting Kagetoki to think them a way out of the mess and Kagetoki trusting Benkei to be able to pull it off.

Feeling indebted to Benkei for saving him, kagetoki goes to thank him as he's recovering, but Benkei waves it off and says he wants Kagetoki to swear an oath to him instead - that he'll use that terrifying brain of his to save countless lives in the future. Thousands, tens of thousands…and Kagetoki isn't sure he can do something as crazy as that but he agrees, just as Benkei agrees to be the sword he can wield freely to make it happen.

After that they became close friends, though still of the 'I might kill you today' variety, always hanging out. But shortly after the Genpei war ending things started to break down between Yoritomo and Yoshitsune, and a letter from Kagetoki to Yoritomo led to him declaring Yoshitsune a rebel (this is a historical fact as well, it's said that Kagetoki's testimony and coercion led to Yoritomo turning on Yoshitsune). So many of their men died as a result of this declaration that Benkei feels he can never forgive Kagetoki for turning Yoritomo against them, especially since he feels Kagetoki of all people should know that Yoshitsune isn't a traitor.

In essence, you have a conflict of loyalty vs pragmatism between the two men. Benkei, who embodies loyalty and emotional bonds to comrades, cannot wrap his head around ever turning one's back on someone. Meanwhile Kagetoki feels that the end justifies the means, and if it means keeping his oath to Benkei and ending this fighting with the least lives lost and the best outcome for everyone, loyalty has no place in the discussion. It's merely about who he feels can bring about the results he needs - in this case, Yoritomo rather than Yoshitsune.

(This is in fact the central theme of his route and personality, a scenario that comes up over and over again)

Benkei is bitterly wounded by Kagetoki's betrayal, especially given his kind-hearted character…but Kagetoki carries the scars of it as well, even if he hides it better or doesn't perceive it as well. He still holds that oath he made to Benkei tight in his heart, and he respects and admires Benkei on some levels for having the sense of righteousness that Kagetoki understands he lacks. He's been told even as a child that he was missing something essential, that he's a brain with no heart, in essence. Seeing someone like Benkei, who is so much heart, fostered a very keen sense of respect in Kagetoki - even when by the same stroke he feels it is Benkei's biggest flaw and despairs that it will be the death of him someday.

I'm the anon who wrote about Disney devaluing Mando's ending. I just wanted to add (sorry for the obtrusiveness 😁❤️) that I just wrote all this not because I'm a crazy fan of dinluke and it's a shame that Luke and Din were not able to meet in the series, but because I really think that the writers acted mediocre and simply spit on the whole plot, completely devaluing it, not only Luke's studies, but also Din's actions for the entire 2nd season, where he tried to find a Jedi. And yes, I would really like Luke and Din to meet, but not because I, as a fan of their couple, would like it so much, I would not want them to make some kind of romantic couple at all, it's not that (well, if only a few moments where there will be a fleeting chemistry between them), they would really make a strong duet, a very cool duet that many would like, not only a Dinluke fan, Luke is the strongest Jedi, Din is a professional bounty hunter and without five minutes the king of Mandalore, Jedi and Mandalorian , that would be the bomb. Yes, there is Obi Wan and his history with Mando, Ahsoka worked with Bo-Katan and many people liked it. With the great popularity of Din and the great love and respect for our and our parents' childhood hero Luke, they would really make the show mind blowing even if they only worked together for a short time. But I think they would be remembered by many for a long time. I'll just hope they don't spit on Luke in the future, despite the fact that they've already done it so many times.

No I get it. It is frustrating to see the story potential and have it get swept to the side for something else. And it is hard to forgive them when characters like Boba and Luke are not used to their full potential so that others like Din and Ahsoka can take the spotlight.

It bothers me because Luke and Boba are crazy popular characters—and would be even more so if they were given their due time up front. Luke IS Star Wars. He is such a fantastic character but some people at Lucasfilm just try to take away who he is so he doesn’t outshine anyone else (or cause he is too good and they want him to be more hardcore and angry and dark and just, ugh) and they miss the point of him. It’s really horrible.

Ugh, Lucasfilm, hire me so I can be the Luke-character support team or something

ok so I?? realized I completely forgot to do this meme for the past, like... three games??? so here’s me remedying that dereliction.

Galar was an easy one. it has a bunch of Pokemon I think are alright, and loooots I cannot stand. but all in all I gotta say even among the Pokemon I like in Galar, there are few I really adore. most of them just kinda grew on me, like in the case of Copperajah, or Chimpep, which I have grown to love a lot more since my initial response of “NOT ANOTHER MONKEY!!”

personally I think the only design that really slaps is Galarian Zapdos, everything ranges from a B+ to a B-.

on the flip side, we got a lot of designs that kinda piss me off lmao. I’m not even gonna get started on Inteleon and it’s creepy ass hands. but I will talk about how unhappy I am with the trend of Pokemon that have obviously been designed as 3D assets first and have been illustrated later, as is clearly the case for Morgrem, and especially Impidimp. I understand that the approach to coming up with Pokemon is changing in the times of 3D graphics, but models that are so clearly cobbled together from default shapes as these seem very lazy to me.

I decided to dedicate four slots to each of the new fossil Pokemon. despite the fact that I think some of the designs are alright, I hate the fact that all of them are basically constantly in the process of dying.

honorable mention goes to Appletun. I can see the appeal here, but I’m very on the fence about Pokemon made of food and it’s eyes creep me tf out.

generally not a terrible generation for new Pokemon, but not a fantastic one either.

Hisui also gets a little extra meme cause why not. Hisuian Liligant might be one of my fav mons ever. the only drop of bitterness about it is that it basically replaced my Hisuian Decidueye, since they did not fix Decidueye’s abysmal speed stat and Hisuian Lilligant has the objectively better move pool. Hisuian Goodra is fantastic all around, and I personally feel like the huge snail shell is exactly what has always been missing about this design.

when it comes to least fav mons this game, I got a lot more opinions, especially on the starter forms. generally I think I’d like to describe Hisui forms and their evolutions with the phrase “missed opportunity”. that’s why Hisuian Arcanine is on my list of least fav mons this game, cause the potential of a Fire/Rock Arcanine was ginormous and the result extremely underwhelming, especially in 3D. Kleavor and Enamorous are a crime against nature. I actually had trouble believing they were real Pokemon and not badly stitched together fakes.

alright so next up is Paldea. oh boy.

maybe I should preface this section by saying that the only reason I got this game is cause I’m participating in an event later this year where everyone needs a copy of Purple or Scarlet, and I only bought it secondhand on ebay. I wouldn’t have gotten this game at all, and I do not approve of the direction this franchise is headed rn.

alright, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the mons I like first. I don’t think I need to say that I’m generally severely underwhelmed with the designs this gen. even among my faves, there are few that I really stan. and Slither Wing and Roaring Moon, which I actually really like, are basically legendaries that I couldn’t use in my run of the game. I mean four of the Pokemon on my fav list aren’t even fully evolved ffs. that’s especially sad in the case of Arctibax. I had one in my team and I really loved the simplistic, almost gen 1-ish approach to its design. but then it evolved, and for the first time ever I was sad that my pseudo legendary hit its final form :/

the two honorary mentions are designs I think are pretty lame visually, but that I cannot help but stan either because of the concept (Maushold) or because of the personality (Flamigo). ....honestly Flamigo just makes me happy. also it got me out of a couple of pinches in the early game. love this dumb bird.

which brings us to. the list of mons I dislike. I tried to narrow it down to 10 + 2 honorable mentions, but I quickly realized that that’s a p hopeless endeavor. so here are most of the designs in this gen I cannot stand. yeppppp, really just a hater this time around. once again I have to talk about design philosophies, and how they change, and how that’s okay, yadda yadda yadda. throughout the last couple months, GF is CLEARLY into prioritizing ?quirky? designs. but there’s a difference between making a design kinda comical, and treating it as nothing but a joke.

I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna say more than that, cause people really be touchy when it comes to fans criticizing the franchise they have been into for over 20 years. but then I remembered that this is my blog and I can hate as much as I want on here. so I decided to give a quick reason why I dislike each of these guys, but I’ll try to keep it to one sentence.

Crocalor: bad shapes and bad color distribution.

Quaxwell: what’s the duck doing with that huge cake??

Spidops: Terrifying, ugly shapes, next please.

Pawmi, Pawmo, Pawmot: it’s the exact same Pokemon three times?!

Arboliva: why do the olives look like they’re just copy pasted on?!?

Squawkabilly: literally how do you fuck up a rockabilly inspired parrot design so hard that it looks like a kellogg’s knockoff mascot??

Naclstack: Minecraft.

Bellibolt: love the idea with the face, hate everything else.

Maschiff: looks like the annoyingly dumb villain in a western 90s cartoon.

Mabosstiff: hate the face, hate the colors, hate that GF doesn’t stop giving its animals beards.

Shroodle: sorry I just need more than a sentence here cause this might very well be the worst Pokemon ever conceived in my opinion. it’s definitely THE most egregious example of 3D assets lazily pushed together to create a design that is barely even readable. like, what is that thing sticking out its... nose? mouth? is that its tongue? its teeth? just looking at it makes me depressed. everything that’s wrong with Pokemon designs recently.

Grafaiai: Idk, I could maybe find it acceptable, but why GF, why has no one ever told you that you never mix two hues of black in one design, and you ESPECIALLY do NOT let them touch each other!!!

Bramblin and Brambleghast: they’re just bushes lol.

Klawf: it’s straight up Krabby again, like???

Capsakid: everything I already said about Shroodle, just that Shroodle already took the cake.

Scovillain: when I saw this one I almost backflipped away from the screen. what are those heads. those freakishly thin necks. what. are. those. ARMS. it’s like the person who was tasked with modelling this thing just gave up towards the end. soulless. we deserve better.

Rellor: oh okay that’s almost kinda coo- OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT FACE??

Tinkatink, Tinkatuff, Tinkaton: yeah I know I’m getting in hot water here, but I’m sorry this is a straight up Sonic character.

Wiglett and Wugtrio: there’s nothing terribly wrong with these, I’m just tried of Diglet receiving extra attention.

Palafin: it’s just so funny cause people have been begging for a dolphin Pokemon for decades, and then we get... this fucking joke of a toothpaste tube.

Orthworm: why.

Greavard and Houndstone: so tired of ridiculously transparent manipulation tactics like coming up with three new evolutionary lines of high concept dog designs and going “PUPPER!! DON’T YOU ALL LOVE THIS SILLY LITTLE DOGGO?!”

Veluza: I coulda sworn we JUST had this exact same Pokemon last gen.

Tatsugiri: sorry I just hate its lore, which is especially funny cause a couple days before this Pokemon was revealed, I saw a fan design based on the exact same concept and it kicked so much ass and leaned so much into how disgusting the background idea was that I couldn’t help but love it. I can’t find it anymore, but it was like a creepy necro mermaid that sticks out of the body of its dead prey and uses it as a tail. why do people like that not work for GF?

...I think that’s overall my question. literally every fan design I see, every redesign made by fans, it’s almost shocking? how they’re pretty much always better, there’s always more thought put into it, better inspiration, the lines flow better, the shapes are clearer, the movement is better, the designs are more appealing, have better color distribution... like, it’s not like there aren’t people with fantastic ideas out there. sorry, it’s just. kinda depressing.
