I did it! This is an IDW AU born while watching The Green Knight (2021), specifically from one movie shot that I'd like to redraw. I was torn on whether or not to draw them all as robots or humans, so I started making designs for their human counterparts first - mostly because it is more fun to come up with clothes and accessories. I will eventually tackle a robot version. This is a long post, btw!

Indeed, this is a completely separate version from the Lion King AU I had come up with a couple of years ago, I just borrowed the crowns because I really liked those designs lol.

But let's set the stage under the cut. You can listen to the playlist on spotify dedicated to it: I've placed the songs in sequence so that they can create a certain vibe for the scenes I had in mind. You can read the plot part while listening.

Some character traits

This royalty au supposes a parliamentary monarchy (like the UK, Spain or Japan). This work is an in-between of later Roman/early Medieval aesthetics and some Futuristic Stuff. The Autobot brand is the royal family crest, while the Decepticon brand can be used to signal the Protector and their entourage, but only in formal settings outside the nation. Usually, the Protector can show elements of the Decepticon colours (red) in their attires.

Optimus Prime

Optimus is prideful and domineering: he knows he has the power to do real damage to people. After all, he was born into royalty and has known no other life. He has anger outbursts, but that's a side effect of his paranoia. At the start of the story, he is not the prime yet. He's around 23-24, already suffering from a mental affliction much like schizophrenia, but, just as in ye old days, the court and his father (Zeta) are not really concerned about his odd behaviours. "He is just volatile", you know. He is also dramatic, making big scenes when his emotions are too cooped up. Optimus, though, is not intentionally cruel - this isn't a Shattered Glass au where he wants some kind of bloodlust sated. He has a deep inner mind, feeling much more like a philosopher and a writer than a brute. This makes him a little naive, too, having people in court (like Prowl) taking advantage of him - and sometimes even Megatron uses his influence on Optimus to stir him where he wants to. He reads a lot, is curious, and is deeply in love with Megatron - sometimes becoming a little cringy about it. He can be a bit of a goofball, telling jokes and being rather affectionate with his family. Sadly, he's a Pisces.

Megatron

Megatron is a diligent engineer who just so happens to pick the Prime's son's interest at some point while assisting his father (Terminus, a strict, distant man) in a job at court. Optimus and Megatron are the same age. He is aloof, quiet and a very good listener. That means he often allows people to speak over him or for him - that doesn't mean, however, that he isn't going to correct them or speak his mind. He is just a careful man. Coming from a rather cold family environment, he has a hard time expressing his emotions, both verbally and physically: he kisses and hugs, sure, but that doesn't come naturally to him. After becoming protector, he has a hard time getting used to the court lifestyle since he is quite bothered by the intricacies of royal "rituals", may they be clothing, hairstyles or make-up choices. Or Starscream fussing over him about that all day. He also often stands up against abuse of power, especially from Optimus. They fight quite a lot. He enjoys drawing (buildings, like architecture) and reading novels, but he's not particularly cultured. He is also, sadly, an Aquarius. (And transgender, but this has no political or social bearing in the story besides being Rodimus' biological carrier).

Prowl

Prowl is about fifteen years older than Optimus, becoming his advisor once Zeta Prime passes in "a tragic accident". He is ambitious, cunning and... Deceptive. His ultimate goal is to push Optimus to insanity, convince the parliament he is unfit to rule and become reagent in his stead. This would allow him to create an oligarchy with other senators. His words always support Optimus' delusions, abusing the Prime's naivety for his scheming. Prowl thinks of Optimus as an idiot lucky enough to be born in a high position in the social pyramid. He has attempted various times to "warn" Megatron, one of the few people who is extremely suspicious of Prowl. And by warn, I mean having him pushed down the stairs, giving him a nice broken leg. He also acts suspiciously around Rodimus.

Zeta Prime

Zeta Prime was a balanced, careful ruler. He held concerns about his son's future, as he thought Optimus wasn't fit for a leading role. He was a stern man and often frustrated by Optimus' antics. However, their relationship was on good terms. He was "found" dead by Prowl during a political meeting abroad, as he was standing in for Alpha Trion (Zeta's advisor), prompting Optimus' coronation. Zeta wasn't sick, but all primes in this AU suffer from haemophilia (a hereditary illness that makes it harder for the body to stop bleeding).

Rodimus

Rodimus was born three years into Optimus' primacy. He was brought up in a restrictive environment, as Megatron grew more suspicious of Prowl, fearing for Rodimus' safety. That translated into Rodimus feeling anxious when Megatron's not around (for too long, at least) and becoming a little jealous of him, even if it's Optimus taking Megatron's attention. Rodimus uses "dad" for Megatron and "Father" for Optimus. He doesn't like Optimus too much, usually bearing his presence and ignoring him whenever he can, but deep down he worries about his father, too. He is a very knowledgeable child with a vast vocabulary, as he enjoys books of every kind and, just like his dad, he is a good listener, learning a lot from the "adult conversations" around him. Rodimus is often seen together with Starscream (his nanny, in a way lol), who he is fond of but has difficulties showing it. He becomes Prime-to-be at the age of 16, like all Primes.

Starscream

Starscream was the royal alchemist, an inspired researcher and a man of science. He is loyal and has strong opinions on many subjects, especially on morals and ethics. That is also why, during Zeta's late reign, he was demoted to servant with the accusation of insubordination. He is still a high-grade servant, usually dealing with bureaucracy... Until a new Protector shows up, that is. As soon as Megatron becomes a Protector-to-be, he is assigned the role of first maid in assisting him, a task he takes very seriously. Although Megatron's distance and lack of interactions with him drive him quite mad at first, he slowly realises they're quite compatible. Their relationship evolves into confidants and then friends, as Megatron often takes Starscream's side. Also, Starscream has been suspicious of Prowl since day one. He enjoys Rodimus until he starts being a little opinionated pest-- but he's fond of the child, even as he grows older and more anxious. His hobby is sneaking into the court laboratories and fixing whatever annotations made by other alchemists he deems wrong.

Skywarp & Thundercracker

They are part of the Protector's entourage (and Starscream's brothers). Skywarp is a little airheaded, a bit clumsy, and usually focuses on entertainment, mostly writing poems and songs. He is the only one who knows all the intricate inner passages of the court's buildings by heart, meaning he never gets lost. Thundercracker, on the other hand, is a bit more cocky. He is built like a brick, so he helps with manual tasks and is a decent leader, usually picking up the ranks when Starscream is busy. Both of them were not demoted like their brother, they just started working at the court as high-grade servants. They are very loyal to Megatron, although they treat him more like a royal than a friend.

The Plot (generally speaking)

Optimus is interested in this one engineer working at the court he has seen a couple of times in the last few months. He is gorgeous, and it sounds like a fun time to fill in his afternoons, maybe even getting some sex out of it. That's a thing he hasn't lacked in his life, like most royals he was used to having sex workers available at whim. However, Megatron doesn't seem too affected by the Prime-to-be's attention. He is very deadpan and interested in him as a person; he finds Optimus interesting and funny, so, in a matter of weeks, they kind of hit it off, Optimus falling madly in love with this man, spending most of the time daydreaming and absolutely useless at his duties, much to Zeta's dismay.

As this love story progresses over the next couple of years, Prowl's machination starts rolling out: being a young overachiever, he patiently waits for the chance to get rid of Zeta in a way that doesn't point directly to him. After all, Prowl is trusted and seen as loyal and caring for the Primes he serves; he is an incredibly talented actor, having the support of a few Autobot senators, too. On an out-of-country political trip, he lets Zeta bleed to death, coming back home in a hurry to announce the Prime's death and rushing Optimus' coronation. At this point, Optimus is not mentally ready to hold that position; he is quickly pushed to marry Megatron, making him his Protector. In a matter of a year and a half, Optimus' mental state quickly deteriorates, allowing Prowl to take hold of the neo-Prime's decisions.

Optimus' mental illness worsens, which stresses Megatron into stirring his husband away from Prowl. Rodimus is born in that worried, paranoid environment. Although mostly wanted by Optimus as one of his fixations (and also discouraged by Prowl himself), Rodimus brings more stability to the court. Megatron finally takes hold of Optimus' volatile behaviour as Rodimus grows older, making the Prime doubt his advisor's suggestions more than once. Prowl, thus, "warns" Megatron to lay low, having him pushed down the stairs. The goal wasn't to kill Megatron but to show him Prowl could. As Rodimus turns seven, Megatron becomes more anxious and paranoid, rubbing that over to his son. Optimus doesn't allow them to go around the court or outside without being accompanied.

Prowl's hold on Optimus slowly slips away. At the time of Rodimus' coronation as a Prime-to-be, during a medical examination for his haemophilia, the court physician (Ratchet) tells him he needs to be careful, as that illness was Zeta's cause of death. That was a known thing, of course, but it made Optimus think over the mechanics of his father's death in a way only an obsession-driven man can. He confides with Megatron over his suspicion of Prowl killing his father, and finally, they seem to be on the same page on this...

This is somehow the story up to now. I don't know if I'll update it further. I just enjoy the idea of whatever can happen in this setting. I hope you enjoyed reading this wall of text.

Skyline was taking some time to inspect the Constructicon’s latest attempt to make a groundbridge. Megatron had specific orders to keep the cons on schedule.

“Why are we here again?”--Starscream

“Well, I’m here on Megatron’s orders. I don’t know why you’re here. You worried Screamer?”--Skyline

“Psh! As if I had to worry about you. You could fall off a cliff if I cared.”--Starscream

“Hmm, love you too.”--Skyline

The portal turns on and starts sucking everything in.

“Oh, Come on!”--Starscream

“Scrapper! Turn it off!”--Skyline

Skyline holds onto a rail while Starscream digs his digits into the rocky wall.

“I would but we haven’t made a switch for that yet!”--Scrapper

“WHAT!?”—Starscream and Skyline

Skyline notices a huge rock coming towards his twin.

“Starscream!”--Skyline

He activates his thruster and flies to his twin.

He yanks his arm and throws him out of the way letting the rock hit his back.

Starscream looks in horror as his twin’s unconscious frame gets sucked into the portal.

Before he can get up the portal disappears.

“SKYLINE!!!!!!!”--Starscream

Now in Silver Aid’s dimension…

Silver is in the med bay cleaning some equipment when the portal opens on the wall.

She immediately latches her webs to a sturdy railing as the portal started sucking things in.

“I AM NOT GOING BACK IN THERE AGAIN!”—Silver Aid

Megatron and Starscream burst through the doors and immediately grab onto something to keep them from falling into the portal.

The others follow suite.

“HOW DID YOU SUMMON ANOTHER ONE?!”--Blitzwing

“HOW SHOULD I KNOW—”—Silver Aid

A figure flies out of the portal with a bunch of rock straight at Silver Aid.

“SILVER!”--Megatron

Silver gets taken out and the portal closes.

The others let go and run over to see their fallen medic.

Silver groans clutching her helm.

“Please tell me I didn’t get sucked in…”—Silver Aid

Skyline sits up too.

“My aching helm…”--Skyline

Silver’s optics snap open and looks at Skyline.

“Sky?!”—Silver Aid

“Silver?!”--Slyline

Silver hugs her friend tightly; he returns just as so.

“It’s been too long my friend.”--Skyline

“Too long.”—Silver Aid

Megatron clears his throat catching the two’s attention.

“Can someone please explain.”--Megatron

Skyline helps Silver Aid up and bows to Megatron.

“You must be the Megatron of this dimension. I sincerely apologize for the… ‘dramatic’ entrance.”--Skyline

“…What…?”--Starscream

It does take a few tries to explain everything to the group, but they do eventually get it.

Lugnut is the fastest to get used to Skyline.

He was sold the moment Skyline bowed and gave his respect to his leader.

“Silver Aid… I have something to tell you… in private.”--Lugnut

Silver looks at Lugnut a bit confused but complies.

“Wait for us right here Sky.”—Silver Aid

Lugnut and Silve Aid move into a different room.

“What do you want to talk about Lugnut? Is Skyline making you feel uncomfortable?”—Silver Aid

“NO! I mean, no…”--Lugnut

Silver Aid puts a reassuring servo on his.

“You can tell me Lug, what’s going on?”—Silver Aid

“…Do you think that Skyline and I can be Amica Endura through dimensions?”--Lugnut

“… I think that’s something you have to talk to him about Lugnut.”—Silver Aid

Lugnut is not too surprised to hear that Skyline is spark twins with his version of Starscream.

There are a lot of similarities that could be compared between him and his Starscream.

Bliztwing doesn’t mind Skyline being around the base too much. He can respect someone who can respect Megatron.

But he is fully convinced that Skyline is a clone and not Starscream’s actual spark twin.

None of his faces agree with it despite the number of times Sky and Silver try to explain it.

“Is there nothing that can prove it?”--Skyline

“Yes there is one way.”--Blitzwing

“What is it?”—Silver Aid

“A CNA test.”--Blitzwing

Megatron had conflicted feelings about the new bot.

He does appreciate that this is a loyal con to his alternative’s army. It’s a trait he’d never associate Starscream with.

But he is jealous of the mech.

Silver Aid had been spending a substantial amount of time with the newcomer and all the inside jokes and friendly touches were starting to make him mad.

He will not say that he is jealous.

Nope, never going to happen.

Megatron does get a change in his feelings towards Skyline after Silver Aid comes to the picture.

“Excuse me, Lord Megatron.”--Skyline

“Yes?”--Megatron

“Silver Aid just told me that you and her are together, is that correct?”--Skyline

Megatron suddenly feels a bit uneasy and on edge.

“Yes. And what of it?”--Megatron

Skyline just smiles and looks over at Silver Aid trying to pry a screwdriver from the wall.

“I just wanted to congratulate the both of you. She really looks much happier than when I last saw her. And I take it you are one of the causes?”--Skyline

Megatron just looks at Silver Aid finally prying the tool from the way while stumbling on her back.

“We are both happy with this.”--Megatron

Skyline smiles a bit more.

“I hope to be as happy as she is one day. She earned this.”--Skyline

“Yes… after everything, she does.”--Megatron

“… Is this a bad time to mention that My Megatron tried to flirt with her?”--Skyline

“Excuse me he WHAT?”—Megatron

Starscream takes the longest to come around Skyline.

Something that Skyline understands 100%, no matter how much it stings.

Silver Aid does intervene and gets the two to talk.

“So… you are my spark twin in an alternate universe?”--Starscream

“That I am. I take it that you don’t have an alternate version of me in this universe?”--Skyline

“You are correct.”--Starscream

Silence…

“…I’m sorry.”--Skyline

Starscream looks at him confused.

“Umm, sorry for what?”--Starscream

“Sorry you never met me. I know that you—I mean—my Starscream hates being alone, I hate being alone. I can’t imagine having to go through this life without you by my side. For that I am sorry.”--Skyline

“…You had nothing to do with it. This is just what the universe gave us.”—Starscream

Skyline chuckles a bit.

“Yeah, you’re right.”--Skyline

Starscream’s wings lift up a bit.

“Of course I’m right!”--Starscream

Skyline smiles a bit.

“Classic Starscream, the ever the humble Decepticon.”—Skyline

The two bots laugh while Silver Aid smiles from her hiding place.

It is a bit of a rough goodbye when the portal comes back a couple of days later. Some of them don’t want him to leave but understand why he needs to go.

Skyline giving one last hug to Silver Aid.

“We will see each other someday my friend.”--Skyline

Silver waves at him holding Megatron’s servo in the other.

“I’ll be waiting for it!”—Silver Aid

Skyline goes into the portal.

In his universe…

Skyline crashes into the throne room face first.

“I hate these landings…”--Skyline

“SKYLINE!”--Starscream

Starscream runs and tackles his twin to the ground pulling him into an armor denting hug.

Skyline just smiles and hugs back.

No words exchanged for now.

Just hugs.

“There’s only one thing I desire right now. Peace for that mother and her child for the rest of their lives!”

Ok so I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, where all the people who possess / have possessed witch factors in Re:Zero are magical girls (+ magical boys? Just gonna call them all ‘magi’ to make it easier), because the witch factors parallel the most with becoming a magical girl in pmmm for me. I’m also gonna include Emilia and Subaru as magis, because Subaru’s Return by death may also be an authority and to explain his time traveling (also for the obvious Homura x Madoka parallel). This idea came to me when I found Iqian35’s post on reddit Birth of Authority from Wish, where they say “My motivation for this series primarily stems from the 2018 Q&A on Echidna's Book of Wisdom, where Tappei said " the authority itself has a tendency to reflect the cravings of the holder of the witch gene". So l thought, why not look into each and every one of the Witch Factor holders and see how their personalities and wishes are reflected in their authorities?” and reading it reminded me so damn much about pmmm’s magical girl system that I was inspired to design magis + witches for the series! I might even turn this into a fully fledged au!

Now I wanna talk a little bit about my thoughts behind Geuse’s magi design and what his powers + wish would be. I designed him with the intention of looking like a templar knight like from the crusades. What with the witch cult’s parallels to Christianity / Catholicism as well as in Geuse’s design itself, I thought it would be fitting. I also made him a kind of knight because I wanted it to call back to Sayaka in a way, considering the similarities behind their motives of wanting to help those they love / wanting to protect people / sacrificing their souls, ect. (these two are so similar to me I could make a whole ass venn diagram). Iqian35 made the observation that his ‘wish’ would probably be a wish of love + his goal in life was to protect Emilia and Fortuna and to live for love, so that’s probably what his wish that would make him a magi would be, specifically to have the power to be able to protect Emilia and Fortuna. This would make his magical power manifest as the unseen hands, like in the show proper. I gave him a mace as his weapon because it was used in the time period of the crusades and because it’s a bludgeoning weapon meant to break armor, which I think fits well with his fighting style and the strength of the unseen hands. He’d still be able to use earth magic as a magi, as well as possessing bodies / having his fingers as long as his soul gem is intact. Because he’s an earth spirit I made his sg yellow / gold, yellow being the color for earth spirits / earth magic in re zero, and made it a prevalent color in his outfit. Red is a frequent color in his outfit too because the star Betelgeuse is a red giant and it’s used in his og design.

That’s all the input I have to give for now, sorry for the wall of text lol :) more designs are on the way but it may be a minute because I have college and other stuff to worry about, but I will get them done eventually don’t you worry! The brainrot is far too strong lol XD I have too many ideas for this possible au / crossover!

Look. I do as a matter of fact think it's possible to be in a fandom and interact with material you've never consumed.

I think I've managed to make it through maybe 2 episodes of Stargate Atlantis (I'm an SG-1 original team person) and yet I have happily enjoyed quite a lot of SGA material to the point I could probably plot out a bunch of the story arcs of the first few seasons, given the type of fic I enjoy. There's a lot of Star Wars and MCU material I have never personally touched but I do know the gist of. I was introduced to the Vorkosigan Saga via a crossover. I have occasionally read stuff where I didn't know the source material when it's been from favourite writers.

There's even material that I have personally chosen not to interact with as I know it'll make me hugely angry that I spend a lot of time buried in the results and riffs from. (TKJ take a bow)

But I guess I just don't understand the urge to create when you want to respond to Specific Scenario but go out of your way to never interact with any material that actually addressed that Specific Scenario. And then get mad when people who are across the Specific Scenario question what you know about it. How can you say you don't think Element has been properly addressed if you refuse to look at it?

For instance, I think it is perfectly possible not to read TKJ but to have read any of the material responding to it, particularly Suicide Squad, Oracle Year One, Birds of Prey, heck even Simone's Batgirl, and feel comfortable commenting on the outcomes of the story. I even think it's possible to appreciate the work of something like The Oracle Code in providing and creating an alternate version of events and understand the work done there to provide an alternate route for Barbara's situation.

I don't get the urge to dig into the effect TKJ has on Bruce or Jim, in response to the situation, without touching at least one story where their emotions over the situation are discussed.
