JJBA PART 5, VENTO AUREO IS THE UNDERBAKED MESS I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT FIXING...PART 1

imagine you are celebrating your big promotion at the pigeon crushing factory (in this world you make a living crushing pigeons into a cube, this isnt important) and decide to treat yourself to a delicious hibachi feast at the local grill. as you sit down, your chef introduces himself to you; to your surprise, the chef is reknown mangaka hirohiko araki!

"wow, amazing!" you think to yourself, "i can't wait to see what delicious treats he has waiting for me, especially after that scrumptious part 4 i had last time". araki smiles knowingly, seeing the recognition of his talent in the gleam of your wide eyes. with a dramatic flourish, begins his work. a wild and frenzied solo performance begins. ingredients are chopped and flung with dazzling accuracy, speed, and showmanship until you are presented with the fruits of his labor: a new dish, just for you.

there's one problem. he forgot to turn on the grill. or maybe he never meant to. his confidence leaves you unsure of what to do when he starts flinging raw onions into your mouth and encouraging you to chew. like the tragic chef from the clickhole video, he has served you a plate of raw chicken and vegetables and is now looking at you with his arms crossed over his chest waiting for you to dig in.

its not all bad. you can eat some of the veggies as long as they don't touch the chicken, but the majority of it is inedible. you didnt even get to see him do the cool onion thing. you push the plate back unfinished and hoping for an explanation for what the fuck just happened but when you look up, you realize araki has already left. his big chef hat and coat are lying on the floor where he shed them on his new journey to start a raw foods store having discovered his passion for organic veggies. next time you crush so many pigeons you get another promotion, you try the new store and its delicious. can't fault him, i guess!

this is the experience of watching jojo part 5.

and LOOK. i'm not lacking in perspective here. its presumptuous to say "i can do better" or "i could fix this" when it comes to anyone's work, let alone the work of someone singular like hirohiko araki. no one's brain operates the way his does, as evidenced by the paltry and weak attempts by the spin-off artists who struggle to recapture that same magic; they all lack whatever je ne se quoi araki has tapped into that's off limits to every other human on planet earth.

straight up, my approach to storytelling is too conventional to be a good replacement for araki's (who seems to be just completely unhinged both on and off the page) so my suggestions to "fix" part 5 are going to be broad strokes and not finely tuned fanfictions. there are just...things i would have like to see happen. and the list is long enough that i think it necessitates that this essay be done in parts. but everything you need to fix it is right there within the existing text. much like the bad meal, the manga (presumably, i only watched the anime. no! stop booing me!) has all the ingredients, the passion, and the skills to create a satisfying end result, its genuinely just missing the ability to bring it all together in a satisfying way. and it is so, so frustrating to watch unfold from the comfort of your couch.

however, for people not in the jojo know-know (who are just reading this bc it started with a pigeon crushing metaphor and you wanted to see where it was going), i do have to explain the historical lens we have to consider with part 5: it wound up being the first evolutionary step of araki's change in art style and story-telling conventions. the fashion aesthetics are wilder, the stakes are bigger, and the stands (WAY) more esoteric. with hindsight, we can look back and understand that it turned out to be weird because he was experimenting in real time (as artists who work serially have to due to the nature of the job) with what he was interested in and what he wanted to explore. so there's nothing WRONG with part 5 in the cosmic sense. and it wasn't without entertainment. and most of the characters were great!

it just that this whole thing causes me enough mental anguish to think about day in and day out to the point of writing what will turn out to be an embarrassing amount of words about my objectively least favorite part of a body of work i've come to adore. its fine. whatever.

come with me...join me whether you know jojo or not, as i try to stay sane tonight and many other nights. watch with concern and glee i rant incoherently about things that will make me seem like an absolute raving lunatic to anyone who is only barely familiar with the franchise and loosely understands it, as i only did, as a series about people who do pokemon but with ghosts who punch people.

So I got into JJBA a little bit ago (I'm nearing the end of part 3) and Old Man Joseph has completely infected my mind.

It started after seeing a TikTok about how Joseph would probably do that loud ass dad cough/sneeze. Now I'm obsessed with thinking about him doing other dad stuff

Falling asleep watching TV, standing over you while you're watching/playing something etc. Of course using that as a way to subtly perv on reader.

When he "falls asleep" he lets his hand (or hermit purple) wander to places he knows he shouldn't touch.

Standing over you in order to gauge your size difference (and get turned on by it ofc)

Letting reader sit in his lap and play with their hair to feel and smell them.

Just pervy Old Man Joseph has me giggling and kicking my feet.

A wild 2023 recap post appears!

Stuff I made this year:

Fiction: Nope. Work continues to consume me. I DID write like 33k that maybe will be publicly accessible in the future, but who can say.

Playlists: I think the only two I remembered to share were Oleander (a playlist for my Wickedness character) and the vast and the void (what it says on the tin).

RPGs: Also a nope.

Knitting: Made a shawl! And a hat, technically, that I forgot to take pictures of.

Other stuff: Taught 5 classes, 4 of which were new preps! Did fieldwork in Japan for the first time since 2019! Gave an hour-long talk in Japanese! Presented on two conference panels! Finished two academic book reviews! Survived somehow! The period between August and December sort of doesn’t exist in my memory? I was doing things but almost all of those things were work, so. The isolation has been wearing on me, but with the combination of A. not having any time to do anything other than work and B. for Various Reasons questioning whether I want to stay at this job, it's been really hard to build local community. I'm going to try to work on that next year, but also I'm going to have two new preps again in the fall and one of my spring classes is already overenrolled, so who knows how effective that'll be.

Media I enjoyed this year:

Books: I read 46 books this year apparently! Top picks in no particular order: The Singing Hills Cycle (embarrassingly my jam), The Southern Reach Trilogy (shocking that it took me this long to read this), My Own Devices (even MORE shocking that it took me this long to read this), Imperial Radch (so AGGRESSIVELY my jam), She Who Became the Sun (this was a hilarious accompaniment to one of my fall classes), Camp Damascus (read this on a plane back from Japan which was An Experience), The Tale That Twines (loved the first book; the second book is even better), System Collapse (yeah, no one is surprised that I loved this).

TTRPG: Wickedness! This was the only new TTRPG I played this year, but it was really good.

Video games: Mask of the Rose and Saltsea Chronicles, both of which I want to/should poke at more. Special nod to 13 Sentinels which we enjoyed 90% of a lot.

Manga/comics: I think the only thing I read was The JOJOLands?

Fanfic: I didn’t actually wind up reading that much fanfic this year again, in part because I was reading so many books. A few picks, in no particular order: The Gardener (CR C2), Keys to the Castle (CR C2), Whistle Song (CR C2), pieces of (you) me (CR C2), Descriptions of a River Flowing (CR C2), Slip the Blindfold (CR C2), Heart to Heart (JJBA: JJL--PLEASE read this if you care about JJL at all), riverside beatitudes (JJBA: SDC), Fully formed, ready to run (ExU: Calamity). Honorable mention to Asking for More (Stranger of Paradise), which is a WIP but made me laugh so hard I hit myself in the face with my phone.

Films: I actually watched like eight movies this year! All but two of the new ones on a plane, to be fair, but. Top picks: Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse and Shoplifters (『万引き家族』). Honorary mention to Suzume.

TV: Finally finished Stone Ocean! It was good! Rowan and I are also like halfway through catching up on TGCF and it is also very good.

Podcasts: Continued to listen to way too many of these. Top picks: The Silt Verses, Trice Forgotten, Within the Wires (hey can we talk about the newest season? truly wild), and Re: Dracula. Honorable mentions to The Evaporated: Gone with the Gods, 『なんかIWAKAN！』 (WHICH IS TRAGICALLY ENDING???? where am I supposed to get my chaotic Japanese gender and sexuality discussion now :(((((), Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later, Critical Role, and Worlds Beyond Number.

Music: Dessa's Bury the Lede was excellent, of course. I also apparently listened to Maisie Peters' The Good Witch a lot (it was in my grading rotation in October). And then this past month there's been a lot of Hozier's Unreal Unearth. But a lot of my listening this year was either albums on the bus (rotating mainly between Quiet Company’s We Are All Where We Belong, Bury the Lede, yorushika’s entire discography that I can purchase, Wednesday Campanella, and various soundtracks) or putting something on loop and falling into a fugue state. Apparently my top song of the year on Spotify was “Square One,” which I think I put on looping while grading in the spring. My Spotify top songs list was even more inexplicable than usual this year.

Whumptober Day 12 - Hunter's Moon (JJBA Vampire Hunter AU)

More Vampire Hunter AU for today's @whumptober fic! This one can be read by itself, but if you are following the series, there will be spoilers for anyone who has not read through "Humanity and Eternity"

Bucciarati and Abbacchio decide to go on an easy hunt to ease into Bucciarati's new vampiric condition, however, their quarry proves more dangerous than they thought, leaving Bucciarati gravely injured, and Abbacchio with a choice to make.

Excerpt:

Bruno was shivering violently by the time Abbacchio finished cleaning up, washing blood off his hands. He moved Bruno away from the wet hay and tried to make him comfortable, helping him put his shirt back on to offer a little extra warmth.

"Are you cold?" he asked lamely.

"Mm," Bruno murmured. "Seem to be."

Abbacchio pressed his lips together firmly, and took his own coat off, wrapping it around the other Hunter who glanced up at him gratefully, huddling under the warmed garment.

"I doubt I'm really…going anywhere," Bruno murmured. "So…if you want to chance it alone…you can go. I'll be fine."

Leone glanced down at him skeptically, pressing the back of his hand against Bruno's forehead and finding it extremely clammy. "You really are cold," he said in surprise and sat down next to Bruno, pulling him in against his side in an attempt to share his own body heat. Bruno grunted in protest at the jostling, but huddled closer appreciatively.

"There's no point in running into the woods for it," Abbacchio muttered. "It knows better where it's going in there. "We'll wait to see if it comes out again tonight and then shoot it."

Bruno sighed, opening his eyes to look up at him. "I'm sorry, I should have been more careful."

"It surprised you, we should have stuck together."

Bruno tensed briefly as a wave of pain went through him before he said tiredly, "I'm still…I'm trying to find the happy medium between knowing I'm physically stronger now, and actually utilizing that in a way that I am not continuously throwing myself into harm's way."

"Oh, so it took you until you become a damn vampire to figure that one out?" Abbacchio asked, not without a little exasperation.

"I suppose that is what got me into this situation in the first place," he replied, then let out a soft moan, curling further into himself. "God."

Leone watched helplessly as the injured Hunter shuddered in pain, breathing through his nose as cold sweat beaded on his brow.

"How bad?" Abbacchio asked quietly.

Bruno let out a shuddering exhale. "Feels like…'m still being ripped…apart." He swallowed hard, eyes squeezed shut as he curled further into himself, heavy against Abbacchio's side.

Leone hesitated slightly before he reached out to rub Bruno's back, trying to soothe, but he knew the other man had to be in a hell of a lot of pain right now.

And he wasn't going to get better this way either. He wouldn't be able to heal himself when he was already so weak. Which…left a question Abbacchio really didn't want to think about, but it needed to be addressed all the same.

"You need blood, don't you?" he finally asked.

Bruno let out a wry, helpless laugh. "It would help. It's hard…to think of that still." He cringed, swallowing down another whimper as he pressed his face into Abbacchio's side. "Blood should help me heal faster though."

"You know you shouldn't feel bad to ask for it," Leone said, though he couldn't keep the discomfort out of his voice. The thought that Bucciarati literally needed to drink blood to survive was still a lot for him to grasp. But he was sure that it was even worse for Bruno so he tried not to let it show.

Bruno looked up at him, red eyes clouded with pain. That was still the hardest thing for Abbacchio to get used to. The fact that he would never see his friend's blue eyes again, evoking so much emotion, either compassion or steely anger. But maybe all of that was still there. He just…didn't like to spend a long time searching.

"I think the farmer might owe us a sheep for our trouble." Bruno replied with a light chuckle that turned into a cringe. "We could say…the dog got it."

"You're going to try to wrangle a sheep in your condition?" Abbacchio asked. "Buggers kick, you know."

Bruno was silent, seeming to consider it. "I don't see another option," he said quietly.

Abbacchio felt a twist in his stomach, because the obvious answer was right in front of them. This was literally the last thing he wanted to suggest, but wasn't it kind of part of the job?

Bruno shifted to try and find a more comfortable position, a choked gasp escaping him. He pressed a shaky hand to his stomach, before pulling it away with fresh blood coating his palm. Leone's heart sank. He was still bleeding, and the more blood he lost…

He took a deep breath weighing his own discomfort against the discomfort the other man was obviously feeling. And coming to the conclusion that he was being a damned idiot. If he could offer any aid to his friend right now, then it was Leone's job to do so.

"If…" he hesitated, biting his lip briefly before he forced himself to continue. "I don't mind," he finally spat, then forced himself to clarify. "If you need to drink my blood."

JJBA CHARACTER THEME TOURNAMENT END!

Sorry for the loooooong radio silence, but I am now able to formally congratulate the winners of the JJBA Anime Character Theme Tournament!

In first place, il vento d'oro, the theme for Part 5's Giorno Giovanna!

In second, Killer, the theme of Part 4's antagonist Yoshikage Kira!

And last but not certainly not least: third place, awake, the collective Pillar Man theme from Part 2!

I hope that even if your favorite didn't make it to the finals, you enjoyed listening to the all the amazing themes JJBA has to offer! It was certainly a blast for me watching folks discuss and gush in the tags every week :D

Also, quick update about the next tournament(s). These past few weeks have been pretty hectic as I've gotten a new job! Yay! Adjusting to a new environment and balancing my second job on top of it has taken up most of my time, so I haven't had much time to work on match-ups and whatnot. But never fear! I have no plans of abandoning this blog or you, lovely listeners. It just means things will resume in December!

Doing this thing because I got blorbos on my mind

A - Current OTPs/OT3s etc.

It may not come as a surprise but I am absolutely rotting on PruMano at all times and have been doing so for basically a year now. It's beginning to melt into my personality and nothing can be done about it. Whenever I'm released from the iron grip of PruMano rotting I enjoy GerIta and FrUk like the normie that I am. The BTT are definitely getting together for threesomes when they're all single and I like them as well.

B - Pairing I initially didn't consider

This might shock you after reading the first bit but. PruMano. See I'm not new to this circus, I first watched Hetalia in 2015 but focused mostly on the Nordic 5 with SuFin and DenNor. This was before PruAus 9/11 (Hima suddenly announcing they're cousins) so I think I was on the PruAus rot.

Other than that I got a friend who I dragged into this hellhole (you know who you are) who has infected me with Frain and TurFra. I have some Thoughts about TurPru but uhh. let's leave that for now.

C - Ships I never liked and never will like

All the ones where there is an unbalanced power dynamic (age gaps, having interacted when one was a child and the other way older etc, former colonies and oppressive states, having a relationship that implies being related etc). I am a seasoned hater of these and I do my best to block anyone who as much as reblogs it. I do not care if it's "just fiction" you guys are weird and not in a good way xoxo

D - Ships I just can't get myself to like

Due to the aforementioned PruMano rot I just don't feel seriously interested in any other pairings I fear. Nothing against PruCan or LietPru for example, I am just so rotted on PruMano that it doesn't make me feel anything lol

E - My crack contributions

I may just be the only person who has even considered TurPru and I have done it in the most unbearable fujoshi way possible </3

Other than that I'm helping out with spreading unrequited GerFra, Frain and TurFra which I do also enjoy on the side.

F - Longest I've been in a fandom

I wanna say this one?? Not actively so, I jumped ship to other things such as Love Live and JJBA in early 2019ish (Love Live even earlier in 2017), but even during my longer breaks from Hetalia I've always ended up rewatching it at some point or posting about it.

G - First OTP

For Hetalia it's definitely been GerIta from day one. Do I even need to say anything? To me they're canon.

H - Favorite way of consuming fandom stuff

It's mostly anime series and TV shows I'd say, I do sometimes read but am a bit too busy to properly sit down and do so.

I - Has Tumblr made me dislike fandoms

I think it would take less time to list the fandoms Tumblr HASN'T made me dislike tbh. I try to keep a tight knit circle for my own sanity and rarely interact with the fandom part of stuff apart from my own and my friend's contributions. Highly recommended btw.

J - Fandoms I didn't notice until Tumblr

To be honest I'm not really browsing Tumblr at all. I like to upload here because the image quality is way better than on Instagram. I suppose I highly associate some fandoms with this site (Undertale for example)?

You should all go like and subscribe to fruktual on Instagram for more FrUk and Frainposting

L - Say something nice about a mid character

Lithuania I'm sure you are way more interesting than I give you credit for and I care about you the most out of the Baltic Trio (which I honestly forget exists at times)

GerIta has always been them antagonizing one another, the battlefield is even or perhaps even in Feliciano's favor. Ludwig will never be able to escape the nightmare and I don't think Feli wants him to. They're bound together forever and love it.

5. Roderich, gets slack for various Chibitalia related things, does not deserve it at all, it's all whining and he and Feli are on good terms in modern times. Relax.

Y - Fandoms in-law

My current close friends are into Baldurs Gate 3, Watch Dogs, Dishonored, Evillous Chronicles (Vocaloid), Utena and more. But these are the primary blorbo shows in-law.

Z - Rambling time

Okay if you've gotten this far down I admire your attention span lol thanks. I don't really have all that much to say that is concrete and comprehensible but I am thinking of PruMano and of warm days by the Mediterranean Sea and skies later lit in vivid shades of red and orange as the hot sun sets and the cities come to life. I am also thinking about them cuddling, which I do quite a lot.

I've read and watched it (although I skipped some parts of the 5 and 6 anime). Reminds me, I still need to read the most recent chapter of JOJOLANDS.

For villains I'm wavering between Kars and Pucci, but I think if we're just talking about them in their role as villains, I would choose Pucci because I will defend Kars with my life, he never did anything wrong. Especially after reading the Jorge Joestar novel, he doesn't feel like a villain to me. Literally just minded his own business until Joseph pissed him off by killing his husband, and the whole Ultimate Being thing might've been bad for humanity (according to Jorge novel it wouldn't be), but who cares. He only wanted the best for his family minus Santana and experiment with the limits of the living organism. He kills Nazis and saves puppies. Can't get any better than that.

Now, Pucci is so far the only jjba villain I found scary. When I was reading the end of Stone Ocean, where he chases Emporio through the prison, walking slow but never letting himself be shaken off, I was on the edge of my seat and so worried. He technically succeeded in killing the mc and a whole universe. Most successful villain so far. Never underestimate how far a gay catholic priest is willing to go for his vampire boyfriend. I also find his relationship with Dio and philosophy very fascinating, and his desperate descent that made him turn to Dio in the first place. While the things he went through as a child are pretty wild (the whole baby switching and incest thing), the emotions he feels and how he acts is very relatable, which makes it hit more.

What I like most about him is his attitude as an adult though. His stand is quite literally the manifestation of all his repressed thoughts, outing him as a petty little bitch. Just love how from his first appearance we know he doesn't actually care about the people he's counselling in the prison, it's only about his vision. "You got family problems? You don't know what to do when getting released? Well, tough luck. Let me show you this cherry trick and give you a lecture on heaven and humanity. I'm sure that will help." He looks down on others, but in an entertaining way.

The whole New Moon/Stand Pregnancy is also my favourite part of Part 6. Just seeing how he starts to affect the world around him and the loss of physics is just really well done and so trippy. It also emphasizes this feeling of "holy shit, how will anyone ever beat this guy". He's op, but in an interesting and dynamic way, since he has to adjust to it too and it has quite severe consequences for him.

My favourite moment of his is still how he curses the frog rain because it ruined his 600$ pants. What an icon.

Theatre Kid JJBA Part 5 AU Headcanons!

So, I don't know if anyone cares, but I have a thread about this on my twitter so I'm gonna share my headcanons I have about the GW cast in my funny theatre kid AU! I've got a few headcanons for every character. Some of these may conflict with canon, but whatever.

Giorno:

Baritone, can reach a bit on the higher side.

He's a mediocre singer and dancer but he's a very good actor! He prefers acting in stageplays to acting in musicals, BUT

he's a big fan of obscure musicals! Like, really obscure. Sometimes he invites people over to his house to watch shitty bootlegs with him.

He started theatre around his junior year of HS, pretty late.

Narancia

Tenor

Like Giorno, he's a mediocre singer, but he's a good dancer annd actor!

He did theatre since the beginning of middle school.

He specializes in comedic scenes, and his usual scene partner (when he gets to choose) for those is Mista.

He has a lot of trouble memorizing his lines. Sometimes Fugo makes him flash cards to help.

His favorite production was Newsies Junior, which he did in 8th grade.

Pretty alright knowledge of theatre, knows most contemporary stuff and a fair bit of classics, but doesn't like the classics that much.

Trish

Mezzo-soprano

She's a triple threat, probably the most talented and skilled of the group.

Been doing theatre pretty much all her life.

Usually casted as a sweet female lead, but she wants more "mean" roles.

She doesn't go to the Denny's cast parties because they're too loud and her castmates are stupid.

Very knowledgeable in musicals, less so in plays, and prefers contemporary.

Definitely a Heathers girlie.

Fugo

Baritone

Very, very good singer. Serviceable actor and dancer, but he used to be a pretty bad dancer. It frustrated him a lot but he put a lot of work into it and now he's better!

Started doing theatre in his freshman year, but was trained in music since he was six, along with his academic pursuits.

He taught Narancia how to read music!

He can also play the piano.

Borderline encyclopedic knowledge of musicals (and plays too), prefers classics, mostly.

Favorite musical is Les Mis and he's very pretentious about it.

Mista

Baritone, but he has a pretty good (if not untrained) falsetto.

Really good at dancing and acting, just sorta okay at singing.

Bad at staying on beat though. Kind of a broken metronome.

Can't read music. He has Fugo record parts on his piano and send them to him.

Also specializes in comedy like Narancia

Always orders the Denny's steak at cast parties, always throws up.

Only knows popular contemporary musicals and a few famous classics.

His favorite musical is Be More Chill and people judge him for it (Fugo tells Narancia he can 'do better' than someone who thinks peak theatre is 'a musical where the first line is I'm waiting for my porno to load')

His dream role is Michael in BMC.

Bruno

Did theatre in HS, was very good at it. Star pupil type of deal.

He was a low baritone/maybe bass with a good falsetto (actually trained in using it)

He's since decided he'd rather direct and write because he likes being able to actually see the show he put so much work into live.

Sometimes he can be bossy and has very specific ideas of how he wants a scene to play out, which can annoy the actors.

Very good with music theory

Likes musicals with a lot of dance.

Abbacchio

Did theatre in HS with Bruno, was never super good at it. But sometimes he'd run tech when he wasn't casted.

Now, because he actually knows how to run tech and can teach other people, he's the stage manager for Bruno's productions.

He takes very good notes.

A bit bossy with the crew and kinda mean to the actors (but we love him it's fine)

Sits in a booth with Bruno away from the main table at cast parties. They just chat. And stare deeply into each others eyes like they're gay or something.

LETS GOOO! I love these two so much! As of writing this comes out I am done with Part 5, and you are absolutely right- what a journey! :D I love Josuke and Okuyasu so much; I hope you like it!

“GAH! Not again!” Okuyasu groaned dramatically- the tv screen blinking “PLAYER 1, WINNER” at him tauntingly. “How are you this good?”

“What can I say? I’m just that good!” Josuke whooped, shimmying his shoulders in delight, grinning at the growing pout spreading over his friend’s features. “No matter what the setting is, I’m the video game king!”

“Any setting huh?” Okuyasu turned to look at him. “Blindfolded?”

“I’ve played in the dark.”

“With the world ending?”

“Nothing compared to Mom being mad.”

“If a Stand attacked right now?”

Josuke narrowed his eyes. “Don’t jinx us, Oku…”

“Okay okay- I take that back.” Okuyasu waved a hand. “No Stand users…unless it’s one of us. What if The Hand was trying to distract you? Would you still be able to play?”

“Pfft! What do you take me for? Of course I could!” Josuke grinned, raising his chin smugly. “Like I said, nothing can stop me from winning!”

Okuyasu chewed on his lip in thought, eyes narrowing as he searched for something to throw off his friend. Finally he smiled. “Okay, bet.”

“Bet?” Josuke raised a brow in interest.

“I’ll be the distraction! If anyone’s gonna throw you off, it’s gonna be me!” Okuyasu grinned, practically shaking with excitement. “Watch- you’ll see that “Game Over” screen before you even get through level 1!”

“Bold words for someone who can’t even get past the starting zone.” Josuke teased, cackling at the look he got. “Alright, game.” Josuke took his controller, setting up single player. “Do your worst.”

Okuyasu snickered as he crawled behind the other, cracking his knuckles. “Get ready to lose!”

Turns out Okuyasu wasn’t playing when he said he’d be a distraction.

“Oi, watch the hair!” Josuke ducked when he felt Okuyasu wave hands over his head, just ghosting his treasured pompadour. “That’s a no zone- I’m setting it now!”

“You’re just saying that because you know it’ll screw you up!” Okuyasu snickered as he lowered his hands, going back to gently rocking Josuke back and forth. So far nothing has worked. Screaming near his ear, shoving ice down his back, busting out all his dance moves; Josuke was still making great strides in the game. “How are you so far?”

“Like I said, nothing can stop me!”

Okuyasu sat back, studying him. “Nothing huh…”

The finish line was just around the corner! Josuke leaned in, jaw set in determination-

“EEH!”

His character swerved off screen, falling to his death. “GAME OVER”

“HA! I gotcha!” Okuyasu gloated, fist pumping in glee as Josuke grieved. “I told you I could make you lose! I told you!”

“Tickling is cheating!” Josuke argued, arms tightly around his waist in his doubled over state. “You can’t just go around poking people like that!”

“Aww, what’s wrong? Is someone mad that he lost?” Okuyasu cooed, grabbing Josuke’s sides and pressing gently, making him jerk with a giggly yelp. “Come on, cheer up, Jojo!”

“Ohoohohohohokuyahahhasu, you jehehehehehrk! Ahhehhahhahhahhaa!” Josuke squirmed to and fro, falling on his side as he tried to fight off his friend’s hands. “Ohohohohohoku stahahhahahhap ihihihihit! Ahehehehehahhahha!”

“No way! Not until you’re not grumpy anymore!” Okuyasu snickered along with him, easily pinning Josuke to the ground before sitting on his hips, prodding along his torso. “Come on, give me a smile!”

“Iihiihiihm gohahahahhanna bihihihiihihte yohohohohour haahahahhhands!” Josuke swore, arching when Okuyasu found a particularly sensitive spot near the back of his ribs. Squeaks and giggles worked their way past his lips, pushing them into reluctant smile. “Stahahhahahahp ihiiihiihiht yoohohohohu jeheheheheherk!”

“Aww! See, that wasn’t so hard?” Okuyasu kept one hand towards Josuke’s back ribs while the other wormed itself into his armpit, making him scream. “Hehe, you’re really ticklish Jojo! Hehehehhe!”

It was this moment that Josuke realized he had to do something. Anymore of this and he was a deadman! “Oohohohohoohoh nohohohoho! Nohoohohoohw yoohohohohu’ve dohohohone it!” With sudden determination, he manifested Crazy Diamond. “Dohohohoohooho it! Gehehehhehet hhiihiiihhm Diahahahahamond!”

Crazy Diamond did just that! With an “DORA!”, the Stand charged forward, digging into Okuyasu’s socked feet while chanting its war cry again and again. The result was almost immediate.

“AH! AHehehehhehehahahhhahaha! *snort* *wheeze* Ahehehehhehahhahaha! Johohohohohoohsuke wahahahhahahhaait!” Okuyasu cackled, falling off his friend as he tried to wriggle away, easily stopped by the powerful Stand in question. “Cahahahhahhall ohohoohoohohff Diahhahahahhahamond!”

“Nohohoo way…what, grumpy you’re lohohohsing?” Josuke gasped for breath as he watched his stand attack his friend, a grin threatening to split his face. “Thahhat’s what you geheheht!” Feeling rather bold, Josuke shuffled over, sweeping a few fingers beneath Okuyasu’s chin. “Are you ticklish here, Okuyasu? Hm?”

“Ehehhehhehehehe!” Okuyasu was in fact quite ticklish there. The rugged student scrunched up, pressing his chin to his chest in a vain attempt to lock out Josuke’s fingers. “AEEHEHEHEHEHHE! STAHHAHHAP IIHIIHIHIHIT!”

“Oo, bad spot?” Josuke cooed, reaching out with his other hand to tickle Okuyasu’s neck. “Should have considered that before tickling me, Okuyasu! I’m not merciful.”

“AHEHAHHAHAHHAHA I SAHAHHAHHAID STAHHAHAHAP!” The Hand suddenly appeared, grabbing the air just beside Josuke and yanking. Within seconds, Josuke was flying across the room, crashing into the nearest coach.

“Oh shit- Josuke!” Okuyasu scrambled over, panic chilling his blood as he kneeled beside the groaning boy. “Are you okay? I didn’t mean to-”

“Gotcha.” Josuke pounced, tackling Okuyasu once more and going for more tickles. “Like a toss that light could hurt me! You left yourself wide open!”

“Yoohohohohohhou sneeheheheehehheek!” Ahehahahahahahha!” Okuyasu cackled, grabbing Josuke’s ribs. Soon the pair were rolling around, trying to get the upper hand in their game.

“Iiihihihihiihihihm gohohohohohona gehehehet you nohohohoohw!”

“Brhihiihihng it ohohohohohon, Johohohohjohoohoho!”

“GAH! NOhohooohhot thehehhehere!”

“AHheheheehehhehehe!”

Eventually- when the room was moderately destroyed and Josuke’s mom yelled at them to keep it down, the pair found themselves exhausted and giggly, side by side on the carpeted floor. Josuke’s pompadour was no more- a mess of long dark hair that fell around his flushed face remained. Okuyasu’s own hair hadn’t fared much better- sticking out and every direction like a pineapple top.

“Eh…hehehe…you’ll get it later for messing up my hair…” Josuke groaned, though he was too tired to fight. Okuyasu laughed, reaching out and flicking a thicker strand away.

“You wear it down at night anyway, right? Let it be.” He smiled then. “Besides- I like it.”

Josuke’s eyes widened, the warmth of his cheeks suddenly growing more pink. He ducked his head with a weak chuckle, lightly shoving Okuyasu’s arm. “Shut up…”

“Nu uh! It’s really pretty! Like a princess!” Okuyasu teased, delighted at how shy Josuke suddenly looked. “I bet you could grow it out so long it’d be like a ladder! Think your soul mate will climb it?”

“What? Oh- that is it! COME HERE!” Josuke lunged at him with pillows, attacking his laughing friend again and again.

The rest of their night was full of just that.

No, but really. Hi guys! Long time no see.

I see that Tumblr's changed, and believe me I'm re-learning how to use it. xD

So, um...usual life update I guess, you don't have to read this but I have to get this out of my system or I'll go crazy xD.

Honestly I really miss blogging and talking about fandoms, hobbies and whatnot. It's literally been over a year since I last blogged and there's a reason for that: literally no work-life balance at my old job. I say 'old' because I finally quit this year!! I'm really glad to be out of that soul-sucking hellhole xD For reference, I used to work at one of the Big Four accounting firms as an auditor, think hard before going in haha. The pay may be good...but at what cost?

For a while even when I left I couldn't stop thinking about work, I would always worry that there's something that hasn't been finished yet, and believe me at that kind of job the workload is endless Orz. On the plus side I did get experience, but I'm waaayyyy more glad to be out than in, believe me guys, work-life balance is something that everyone should have, I don't know what it's like in other countries (do feel free to share, I'm quite curious) but there's a reason so many foreign professionals choose not to work in Taiwan:

The pay is low. Especially compared to Japan and South Korea. As of now minimum wage is NTD 26,400 (USD 836) per month, and NTD 176 (USD) per hour, the thing is it's seriously not keeping up with inflation here. Bento used to cost NTD 60~70 when I was in college! Now it's NTD 90~100 on average.

Hours are long. Not all jobs are like this, but you are expected to do overtime without additional pay in most.

A lot of bosses here just...don't know leadership skills? Like they know how to work, but are awful at teaching and leading subordinates. Both Mom and I complain that the EQ of some locals is quite low ^^" No seriously, you do something well and somehow it's always your fault xD People here can be too materialistic sometimes and don't spend enough time on enriching themselves and others. It's really the fault of long work hours as well as the cram school culture here.

So yeah..welp.

My new job (accounting staff at a SME) may be lower pay but at least I get to come home earlier now, which honestly is a relief. Also weekends off. You'd be extremely lucky to get a weekend off at the old job xD

In a way, my Dad spoiled our family xD Because he was too nice we got really used to this rosy portrait of Taiwan and the locals xD But yeah, Mom, Bro and I will find ways to carry on.

Well enough about that! I hope everyone's getting on well with their lives, even when it's tough, there are always ways to carry on. ╰(*´︶`*)╯

I haven't been 100% offline actually xD Just a lot of lurking xD

Some things I've been up to:

You are now looking at a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fan xD JJBA lives in my head rent-free and I don't regret it at all, I want to slap past me for not following JoJo sooner, especially as an avid fan of music and fashion. My brother’s pestering of me to watch it finally came to. I don't read manga, have watched Parts 1~6 (and made my Mom watch it with me ha xD she practically got almost all the music references xD) and am excited for a Part 7 anime!! Which could take forever sadly :( Along with Arcane Season 2, it’s been a while since there’s a show that I really look forward to watching, what with the current state of TV and movies nowadays. Too much on content and not enough on quality or well, basic storytelling even.

But I'm sad that I can't go to JOJO WORLD. QQ I really have a knack for getting into things too late.

My personal ranking: 2>5>3>4>1>6. This is just personal favoritism xD Each part has their own strengths and weaknesses and the writing in later parts is better as Araki has really matured as a mangaka and writer. But Part 2 is amazing. Period. I will not have it any other way. Special mention goes to this guy for simultaneously stealing my heart and *ahem* crushing (sorry) it, I have only cried for him:

He and Joseph should kiss.

2. I got into gaming again! Thank Steam really for letting lots of players save money on not having to buy separate consoles xD I got my brother to help me invest in a good gaming laptop, and it's just lovely. Some of my favorite games:

METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE

I got to experience Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and my god it's a MASTERPIECE. The OST also is just *chef's kiss*. The composer really did a great job with the music. The animation that plays every time Raiden uses Zandatsu is an absolute joy to watch xD My brother introduced this game to me through the memes, and he immediately regretted it when it was all I could talk about for a while xD But god slicing a Metal Gear in two while Rules of Nature plays in the background, how can you not squee?! xD

Mind you this is the tutorial boss xD I highly recommend this game, pure unadulterated adrenaline rush xD It’s so over-the-top and unapologetic, and just damn cool.

SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE

I also beat Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. And as of now, it's still the best sense of achievement that I got from a game, it's the most difficult game I've ever played and let me tell you guys I'm good friends with the death screen xD

The adrenaline rush I got from beating Genichiro for the first time (and throwing the lightning back at him!!) as well as beating Sword Saint Isshin was unreal. At some point, the gameplay for me clicked, and it was immensely satisfying being able to perfectly parry the enemy's attacks. The clanging of swords is a sound that I absolutely love.

Though fuck Demon of Hatred xD. Joke I love the Sculptor character who I affectionately call 'Sculptor Dad' but come on you had to unlearn the game's combat system just to beat him. I agree that he's more of a Dark Souls boss than a Sekiro one.

Well deserving of 2019 Game of the Year 👏

DEVIL MAY CRY V

So you can probably see by now that I love action and hack and slash games xD I used to play Devil May Cry 3 when I was a teenager and even watched the Madhouse anime, the over-the-top-ness and Dante's quips won me over. Dante’s even the whole reason why I tried strawberries and now I love them xD So! It was only natural that I wanted to play DMCV, and I wasn't disappointed.

There’s a total of 4 characters you can play as, each with their own SSStylish gameplay, and I had lots of fun just sending the demons into the air while the extremely enthusiastic cast cheers me on xD

Also V is that Edgy Guy who’s a hit with the ladies xD My brother hates him but I adore him. He even said that I’m a sucker for the “starving artist” types xD Well…

HOW CAN I NOT BE A SUCKER QQ That smirk, dear god.

HADES

You play as this really sexy Prince of Hell with daddy issues.

While Sekiro would frustrate me sometimes with constantly dying, every time I died in Hades it encouraged me to keep on playing, as whenever you die it actually advances the plot and unlocks new dialogue with the various characters, who are based on Greek mythology. If anything the game encourages you to die xD There was a time I was so determined to make it to the surface and when I did it was the next morning already xD

The art by Jen Zee is also just extremely gorgeous, and the OST by Darren Korb (who also voices Zagreus) is amazing. I also recommend Supergiant’s other games Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. They are one of the best indie game developers out there. They put a lot of heart into their games, which is something a lot of AAA games lack nowadays.

Also I headcanon that Zagreus listens to Coldrain while hacking and slashing through hell. It just seems like a band he would listen to xD

And not to forget, but thank Supergiant for giving the option to romance this really sexy grim reaper xD I'm a sucker for the 'tsundere' types too, and let me tell you every bottle of gifted nectar and ambrosia was worth it. When he finally realized his feelings weren't unnecessary I squeeed.

DISCO ELYSIUM

Last but not least, an underrated gem.

Disco Elysium is one of those games that shouldn’t exist, and boy am I glad that it does.

It’s a choose your adventure game in which you play as a detective trying to solve a murder case with your partner, all the while getting to know the seaside town of Martinaise. Which once you get to explore it, isn't really that big and yet somehow feels huge, there's a whole fictional history that was created for it and for places outside Martinaise even, the worldbuilding for this game is insane. It also seems very real and similar to our own and yet it's all fictional, I really admire that level of detail.

I actually first heard of this game through an artist I follow on Tumblr, who draws True Detective and Disco Elysium fanart. I adore the first season of True Detective and never knew that MartyxRust does things to me. Read reviews about this so-called "True Detective/The Wire-inspired" game and was sold.

Also the developers really hit it out of the park with Kim Kitsuragi, god I love Kim 😭 One of the best companions that you can have out there. Whenever I felt bad and by extension made my player character feel bad (the game is choice-based, there's even an achievement called 'World's Sorriest Cop' xD), Kim would always be helpful and encouraging and god just the sweetest.

The humor in the game is also something I just found so charming, and the voice acting is perfect for every character, I find myself having fun mimicking the voices a lot. I kept pestering my brother to play this game, and his Evrart Claire impression is so spot-on, I myself like to impersonate the Fritte clerk with my 'm'kays' xD

Oh, and you can start a nightclub at a church. And believe me when you experience this scene in the game, it is glorious.

3. I had one of those 'happiest days in your life' moments: I went to see the GazettE's MASS final concert in Japan!! And the crazy thing is I specifically flew in just to see them, I was there in Japan for the concert and went home the next day. At the time I had booked my airline ticket thinking I would still be clocking in to my old job on Monday and well, I never thought I would quit xD

And silly me never thought that even Japanese trains could be late (the local trains at least), I was almost late to the 05:30 PM assembly time xD

By the time I got to the Budokan I was confused by the lack of banners and signs at the entrance at first, then I saw this procession of people in black heading to MASS (ha) and just knew. xD

And I thought I was the only one silly enough to fly to another country for a concert, then I heard Mandarin, English, Spanish in the crowd and thought: 'ah, music really brings people together'. It was beautiful.

Seeing the bouquet with the 'From overseas fans (Overseas fans より)' made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Too shy to take my own picture xD But glad to know I'm not the only one extremely happy to be there.

I tried to take a picture of this Uruha banner and it just kept flapping in the wind like Uruha during the heavier songs, so I just gave up xD

The setlist for that night, when they played Miseinen (未成年) I think I started tearing up QQ Frankly the whole night was so surreal I couldn't stop thinking about what I experienced on my way back to the hotel. And I stayed at a capsule hotel for the first time! Specifically this one.

The song they played after the concert was an instrumental version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door, and it was absolutely lovely. They even teased a trailer for a new release next year(!!) and a trailer for their Christmas concert A HYMN OF THE CRUCIFIXION ver.2

Their trailers are needless to say, cinematic. I'm sad that they removed all their older trailers off YouTube though :(

As of writing this, there are still stuff I want to share and fangirl about, but unfortunately I have to wake up to a job tomorrow xD If I could, I'd spend my days just doing what I love and not having to deal with stupidity at work. I just want to say I'm glad that there are things in life to enjoy and make going through the daily grind even just a bit easier :)

this is a good one for sure

feitan VS that weird guy with the green hair from part five his name started with a C I just don’t remember how to spell it very complicated

(simply because they both torture people, and have very unique abilities in their own different ways)

chrollo VS giorno

(Giorno is the main hero in jjba pt.5 and chrollo is the leader of the phantom troupe they are both very, very strong, and have very good abilities)

uvogin VS kars

(I honestly don’t even know who would win because they both have ridiculously strong, physical strength that is a battle that I would honestly love to see)

hisoka VS Joseph (young)

(I feel like this would honestly be a really good fight because they are both tricks and they both do the unexpected so I think it would be very interesting)

nobunaga VS Caesar

(they would both legit fight until they have nothing left to give so I think this would be a perfect match because the battle is going to be very long, because not only are their abilities, totally different and unique but they also don’t have any experience fighting people like each other)

shalnark VS DIO (pt.3)

(shalnark has the ability to completely control somebody but dio has the ability to stop time I feel like it would be very entertaining to watch because dio occasionally lets his opponent get close to him so would that be enough time for shalnark to stab him with one of his needles???)

Jjba Stardust Crusaders Ep. 21-24 Thoughts

I was gonna watch Ep. 25-26 before this but I wanted to make a clean split between the two parts. I peeped into ep 25 a lil bit and it has a new OP and everything. So it will have to wait for now.

Ep. 21-22

Absolute batshit insane two parter. I was gonna write Advol being alive in my predictions because surely if he was the crew would have more of a reaction? Well, I look like an even bigger fool now. How dare the narrative hide shit from me.

It will never not be funny how every 5 episodes or so we'll get an episode that's just Polnareff torture hour. Araki loves putting him in situations.

So... Fun fact! The stand Judgement is translated as "Mahşer" in the Turkish sub, which means bringing all the sould in one place in preperation for Judgement. I can't blame them for this, when translated directly it just doesn't sound nice to the ear. Finding an İslam equivalent is difficult too since there is a thousand fucking words to describe basically the same concept. I went to research for a bit and I couldn't find a concrete translation for it.

The stand itself is a fine interpetation of the Judgement card, I suppose. Rubbing a gold lamp for a genie trope is so overdone, it's abilities are cookie cutter. The design is nice, at least. I don't mind this that much, the episode is barely about it.

The whole time Polnareff is talking to Judgement you are just begging for him to not fall to it's trap. I like how they wrote this sequence. It made me feel upset but not infuriated, which is a common thing that happens in scenes like this. It's in character and it doesn't drag out for long.

Polnareff just accepting his death was actually hearbreaking. Poor guy.

Fortunately, he gets to live another day thanks to Advol BABY!!! You can just tell he was having fun. It must be nice getting to see Polnareff again. It's in ghe middle of a battle but, that's just how it be.

Yeah this scene was the funniest part of the show so far. While watching I was like "They should piss in there lol" and then they actually did it. Advol was the one that said it too. "The nature is calling" I can't believe this.

And now we get to the part I honestly kind of hate. It turns out rest of the gang knew, all this time. The whole time they met "Advol's father" they were just acting.

They have absolutely zero reason for doing this, like, even Jotaro was acting there. They could have told him when they landed on the island. The whole thing is just so unecessarily mean that it feels out of character. Joseph even says "Calm down, there is no reason to cry" and look. I get Joseph being that inept and Jotaro not giving a shit but Advol? Kakyoin?? The whole thing is written as a joke so it never comes up again.

The first part feels as though it was written as if they didn't know. They don't slip up at all and their reactions seem geniune. It soured both of the episodes for me to be honest. At least Polnareff's VA's were amazing this ep.

Ep. 23-24

I like these episodes. They didn't blew me away or anything but it was good. It's especially good for some simple characterization imo.

The gang is planning to use a submarine to go to Egypt and we already know it's not gonna go well. If this keeps happening every other episode SPW foundation might stop paying for these. I wouldn't blame them.

We finally get to see Suzie Q again, as indecisive as ever (me too girl). They called her effervecent and all I could think of was that stupid twilight post.

Personally, I think Suzie Q deserves to know about the Holly situation but at the same time Holly doesn't want that. I get where she is coming from but it might be the last time you see your mother. The charity even she is going to is sponsored by Smokey, in case you forgot this was a continuation of part 2. I know I sometimes forget.

^ I went in to check the manga just to see the artwork and wow it looks nice. Huge improvement compared to Phantom Blood. Makes me want to read the manga. I do love me some ink art.

I got a bit dissapointed when I realized this wasn't gonna be a closed space mystery kind of situation. I have a soft spot for that kind of stuff.

Our next stand is this... thing. Whatever the fuck this thing is takes the cake for the most insufferable stand. I have very limited knowledge on tarot, I can't see how her abilites connect to the card. She can transform and blend into minerals. It's not the most unique ability.

Not much else of note outside of a few Jotaro scenes, they show his personality well. He stands in front of the phoen for like a minute before givong the most obvious answer. He waits to be alone with the stand just so he can tell her he is gonna be the one to beat the daylights out of her. He sure is. a guy.

The second part is more interesting in my opinion. Look at this scene:

I watched this 50 times. Kakyoin popping up behind him out of nowhere. The fact that they do a 5 second bro shake perfectly. Their eyes going dark like this is the most serious they have ever been in their lives.

I love how the manga did this scene.

The second part has the gang working together. Silver chariot duels the stand to buy time. Heirorphant green holds the crew in place so they don't get hurt. Hermit purple pulls out the Priestess from Polnareff's throat etc etc.

Jotaro going along with Polnareff's plan for him to hit on her was pretty funny. They overdo it though, ending up in a way worse situation.

I like that Jotaro waits to "get crushed" by the teeth before breaking it so he can make it more dramatic. Kakyoin calls him a show off and he is 100% right.

I know some people hate it but I adore how Jotaro's way to solve problems is to just punch harder. Exceptional. Makes Kakyoin's line "She even outsmarted Jotaro." an episode before even funnier.

I am sleepy so I'm gonna edit in stuff later. Super excited for Egypt.

I think Polnareff creeps up on my favourite part 3 character spot more each day.

I have zero idea what's gonna happen next episode so no predictions. Sorry.
