I think my silliest Mildly Autistic Nicky headcanon is that yes, he adores spices and seasonings and authentic flavours, but very occasionally (like once every six months) he will want a Plain Food day where he eats nothing but pastina in brodo and bread and butter and other boring things and everyone goes along with it. Joe is happy because Nicky is happy, Andy and Booker will eat anything if it sits still long enough. Nile was surprised but anything Nicky cooks is nourishing even if it's not mind-blowing.

The menu resumes as normal the next day.

(Actually I don't know if this is silly or not. I just like the idea. I would also imagine that they've eaten their fair share of fucking atrocious meals over the centuries, stuff that not even Nicky's skill could save, so anything is better than ship's hard tack, tripe or rotten rice.)

Andromache is a Greek name, and Andy predated the Scythians by thousands of years. Also "Andromache" means "fighter of men" and the Scythians were famous for their mounted warriors.

So I imagine Lykon dying and reviving and dreaming of these ferocious women, for decades, and of course he needs to call them something even if it's just in his own head, so one of them becomes "Andromache the Scythian" because have you seen her? And then they all finally meet and have a good laugh about it and he and Quynh start calling her Andromache as a joke, and then it becomes a habit, and you know she really kind of likes it, and then Lykon dies, which wasn't supposed to be possible, and she stays Andromache the Scythian because that means he's still part of the team, even the new ones who never met him will carry him with them.

(Now, you might very well ask, why does Lykon name her in Greek? I am working on a headcanon for that as well, one that is at least vaguely historically plausible, because some of us actually know how to use Wikipedia, Greg.)

(Quynh is the only other person in the world who knows Andy's original name. When Andy realizes she's mortal again, she thinks about how it'll be after she dies, no one remembering who she was so long ago, just Quynh screaming her name at the bottom of the ocean with no one to hear.)

I love the idea that despite their healing the tog team still get aches and pain after battle. Sore muscles, phantom pain from wounds, hell maybe they pulled a muscle in their leg and its still throbbing for an hour after even though its totally healed. Dying is exhausting.

Booker has a stash of painkillers - some otc level but most are high end off market opioids because he can take them with alcohol and it makes him totally numb without the after effects of him dying of liver failure. Joe and Nicky regularly go to couples massages not just because its romantic but because the muscles in their backs and shoulders from swinging heavy swords get tight. Andy and Nile get pedicures and have spa days to relax and they find they have a shared passion for Yoga - Andy having learnt it in Northern India some time around the Maurya Empire and Nile has the more modern Americanised teaching so they enjoy comparing the differences in the ancient style versus the new age.

Hhhh rough night and I just want to think about soft Hektor/Andromache

On the rare occasions that Hektor is really exhausted, but there's nothing immediately demanding his attention or stressing him out, his tiredness makes him very clingy. So if Andromache's not already in bed, Hektor will follow her around with his arms wrapped around her until she's done with whatever because he doesn't want to go to bed without her. So Andromache usually makes effort to wrap up quickly partially because she wants her husband to actually get the rest he definitely needs, even if clearly considers cuddling more important. But also it's because having Hektor so warm and close with his arms around her makes Andromache herself very tempted to snuggle, he is very cozy and hard to resist. (Not to mention it's quite hard to get anything done with him plastered to her) So Hektor follows right behind her when Andromache's finally ready for bed and they nestle under the sheets together and Hektor doesn't let go even as he dozes off with his nose tucked in her hair.

20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written?

Ohh this is so silly, but I'm a fan of my one-word titles. They have a little mystery and meaning to them. Though I had to conjugate Perferō while knowing nothing about Latin grammar so I should be proud of that one in particular, esp with all its different meanings sdfghfds. (And I bet I still got it wrong but pls be gentle with me lol) But for the sake of comedy and alliteration, I think the best one I've come up with was Nile Freeman and the Midnight Menses Matter.

I thought of this headcanon for Joe and I had to write it before I forget. I’m also sure that someone else has thought of it but oh well!

Joe is a HUGE comic book nerd. He’s been a fan of them since they came out. I’m sure he has a ton of different comic books scattered around at all their different safe houses. I’m sure in the past he has even written and drawn some of his own comics. (He definitely based a character or two on his found family.) He obviously loves Marvel and DC. At some point in his life he definitely had drinks with Stan Lee.

I also think he definitely watches all the comic book movies and tv shows with Nile. They almost always get tickets to an early showing unless they are on a mission. If they are on a mission they make sure to see the movie immediately when they get home, She always used to see the movies in the theater with her brother and now she gets to do it with her new brother. They decided at some point make the rest of the team sit down and have a marathon of them. Joe’s favorite character is Moon Knight. Nicky loves Daredevil. Andy’s favorite character is Wonder Woman (Especially after hearing that maybe she was the inspiration for her). Niles favorite character is Iron Man. Bookers favorite character is the Scarlet Witch.

ok ok so what IF (before Hector/Ekoto* killed Patroclus/Patroklos*) Hector & Achilles/Ahkilleus fought and fell in LOVE?

IDK if you guys know this but Penthesilea (an Amazonian queen mentioned in the Epic Cycle (think "big series about the Trojan War") fought Achilles. During/after the fight, he fell in love w/her. SO what if the same thing happened when he fought Hector? I mean, Achilles is queer (no, I will not debate this). He canonically falls in love w/an opponent (as shown above) & throughout The Iliad, he gives fewer and fewer fucks about the actual war as it goes on. He also has a poly thing going on btwn himself, Patroclus & Briseis--so I wouldn't say he'd be opposed to showing an interest in Hector (& meeting Andromache bc she seems cool!)

yeah, so TL;DR: Achilles/Hector is a new ship, as is Achilles/Hector/Patroclus/Briseis/Andromache!

Okay so, since I just found out I messed up my timeline and Andy is even older than what I had noted down in events (in fact so much older than the Scythians), Andy was possibly around for the domestication of the horse.

And I mean every equestrian ever will tell you domesticating a prey animal is dumb and very dangerous. And who’s be dumb enough to do that? A person who can’t die.

So, my headcanon: Andromache is responsible for the domestication of the horse. She was worshipped as the goddess of war and horses (who were the best means of going to war) and maybe she even founded scythia or something like that being drawn to the mounted warriors who worshipped her.

Anyway, that‘s why she‘s called Andromache the Scythian, because she was their goddess or something similar

Onion soup

Andy hates onion soup. In fact, the scent of onions tends to put her off entirely on a visceral level due to the fact her core memories of it are associated with giving it to wounded warriors after battles to determine if they had suffered fatal abdominal wounds. If the scent could be detected after the soup had been ingested, the answer was yes - & goodbyes were certain. Even now, with medical advancements & a lack of need for the process, Andromache can't shake the memories or association so she tends to avoid the scent when she can.

So I know with Epic (which is excellent) coming out we all say that Odysseos was the one to kill Astyanax, but as far as I know in the original stories it was Neoptolemos/Pyrrhos who physically killed him (in varying brutal ways depending on the version because Neo was a monster). That said, the way I heard it Odysseos was the one to say Astyanax HAD to die, so I can definitely see him having some kind of guilt over that.

ancient sources are divided on whether it was odysseus or neoptolemus, and some don't say at all whose hands physically threw the baby (also astyanax isn't always a baby, not that that lessens the charge of child murder). i'm most familiar with euripides' trojan women, in which talthybius tells andromache that odysseus argued the other kings into executing her son. i assume that's what you're referring to. all this information is in the second paragraph of the astyanax wikipedia page, if you're looking for more specific citations for other versions.

i also think it's interesting that in the play we have with odysseus and neoptolemus interacting (sophocles' philoctetes), odysseus is the instigator, while neoptolemus enacts his scheme — and eventually goes against the scheme, out of compassion for philoctetes which odysseus completely lacks. in my headcanon, i tend to map that dynamic onto the rest of the war.

i don't know that it ever comes up as something odysseus feels guilty about. (even in pop culture mythology, epic is the only one i can think of that touches on the infanticide. i do like that it goes there, although my overall review is that epic is "just ok.") in euripides' hecuba, odysseus is also the one to lead away polyxena to her death; he avoids speaking to her or even looking at her, and she interprets this as a sign of the conscience he is viciously suppressing. (euripides is great. everyone should read euripides.) but neither of these stories come up in the odyssey, where we get the most of odysseus' internality.

what we can say with certainty about astyanax's murder is that all the achaean leaders signed off on it. and odysseus is, pretty much without exception, the one who comes up with the most ruthless ideas and convinces the rest to go along with them. someone else may be the hands, but he's the mind.
