If it’s alright with you, could you please share your headcanons about Ice and Mav’s fathers? I know I’m, like, quoting your own work back to you but I can’t help it: “Well, dead pilot dads, that’s one thing we have in common.” —But do they? Or is one dead pilot dad vastly different from the other?

ice’s dad (Thomas kazansky sr.): asshole army major OH-6 and UH-1 pilot who got shot down over Vietnam in 1967. son of far-eastern-european immigrants. anti-commie. wanted ice to ALSO be a chopper pilot in the army, so ice went navy instead. daredevil dipshit who died & left ice’s mom alone with two young kids & whose death encouraged ice away from breaking the rules or being unsafe (esp. in the air). not necessarily a great person or a great father but died when ice was 8 so also not a huge influence on his life (i know val kilmer has said ice’s father was a big influence… I’ve written elsewhere about why i personally shifted ice’s narrative away from daddy issues and more towards Navy authority in general issues, in light of ice’s character and rank in tgm. GOD i need a master post sorry, but i think you can find it if you search “edts notes” on my blog and scroll for a while). ice’s LACK of a father -> no man to model himself on -> overcompensating & not getting it exactly right (doesn’t know how to talk to other men) -> maverick immediately clocks him as gay -> the plot of my fic.

Maverick’s dad (peter “duke” mitchell sr.): a genuinely awesome person. funny & kind, warm & loving, a truly good father & a great fighter pilot. big american patriot. Comes from a long long line of us navy personnel—maverick has the navy family name & the pedigree ice, as a second generation american, does not. Im still not sure who raised maverick—it’s one of those things I don’t have a strong opinion on, so it could go either way (i posited in the airplane one-shot that he was raised by relatives, aunt & uncle, but I know it’s a popular hc here that he was a foster kid—all equally plausible to me) but I do think he grew up exceedingly bitter, hearing about how great his dad was and how there was just no way! his dad could’ve failed the Navy the way he supposedly did, because he was just such a good person… there’s a real bitterness about original maverick that TGM maverick kind of lost. His bitterness only shows during the “it’s not the plane it’s the pilot” “EXACTLY” exchange (incidentally the scene that gave me the idea that Bradley thinks mav pulled his papers bc he’s openly gay…it’s the pilot not the plane, ouch). but i still think maverick is like deeply deeply bitter about how the navy handled his fathers death, which is what the excerpt i posted on wednesday is actually about—he confesses to ice how disillusioned he has been with the navy as an institution since he found out the truth about his father’s heroism. I know i just just just said that Maverick’s patriotic conservatism is his reason for existence in the meta “why we make mil propaganda movies” sense, and i stand by that, but i think on a human character level there probably has to be a little bit of deep-seated resentment towards the Navy for smearing his father’s good name and his own good name in the process. My maverick grew up a good Christian kid, called himself peter jr. after his good guy father, who never broke ANY rules until he was radicalized by not getting into the academy (“punish the son for the sins of his father”) and basically lost his mind for 30+ years. “If my family name automatically makes me a sinner in the navy’s eyes, then I might as well sin anyway.”

Hi! I noticed you posting ghost content and thought I'd share my input, but I've just realised it's not in your fandom list so just ignore this if I'm being too forward! Anyway:

I just know that Papa IV is so good towards small ghouls and ghoulettes, sure he puts on a show of being grumpy at them on stage but they all live together and tour together so they have to get along! He is their papa at the end of it all and he gives them small kisses on the top of their masks before shows if they've been having a hard day or just to give them some support (mountain is a hard one to do as he's so tall lol)

I have this one image of ember/sodo/dewdrop (I don't know which name to use ajdhshs) standing in copia's doorway with a very sleepy looking Aether, who has been dragged out of bed by the small ghoul to go get hugs from papa.

I also think that no ghoul(ette) is ever lonely and that they all sleep close together, so sometimes bedtime is alot of tangled tails and ghoul-pillows and during these nights if one of them is tiny then they will be the center of attention and get all the love.

(Of course when talking about all of these headcannons I'm talking about the fictional demon people not the real performers lmao)

!!!!! Yes aaaa I’ve been meaning to put Ghost into my fandoms thing! ;w; I’ve been a huge fan since like, 2017/2018 (Actually met Copia back in 2019!)

But yes!! Papa IV is soo good with his tiny ghoulies! Especially since these have been his ghouls/ghoul Estes since he was Cardinal, he knows what each of his ghoulies like and how to settle down their fits or knows exactly what to say to soothe them ;v; !!

And you knooow Copia is so proud of his ghouls!! At the end of every ritual he will tell them all what good jobs they did, always checking to make sure none had hurt themselves (even though Copia knows that ghouls, unlike humans, don’t get hurt as easily from simple things, like pyrotechnics xD) and gives them all kisses!

When one or many of the ghoul(ette)s are feeling tiny, Copia is right there to scoop them up in bed/couch and coddle them, head pats right between their horns (which, is the sweet spot for a ghoul, instant purring!) ;w;

Ghouls are like cats, they love a good cuddle pile, the more warmth the better in their eyes! So, bedtime definitely has all the ghoulies curled up and piled up on blankets and pillows (of course they have their own beds but, those really are just used for their instruments or if a ghoul needs a cool down/alone time) and they will definitely pull Copia into the pile sometimes, because they love him and this is a huge way for ghouls to show their love for their Papa!

Tiny ghouls definitely become the center of alll the other ghoul’s attention! It’s their “There is a kit here” instincts kick in and you’ll see the ghoul(ette) being picked up by the scruffs of their necks to carry the tiny ghoul around, ghouls tails being teething toys and also used as to support the tiny ghoul and their shaky/unsteady steps (especially for Rain, since he tends to be a stumbly ghoul)!

And absolutely!! For anyone unware: Ghost is a theatrical band, their story is about a Satantic church that has anti-popes that do musical rituals to gather new Siblings Of Sin/ members of their church! Currently they are on their 4th Papa (called Papa Emetritus IV, as the Emetrius is the bloodline of successors of the “original” Papa; Papa Nihil) and, each Papa has their own set of Ghouls, who are demons from hell that are minions/henchmen for the church and their Papa- these ghouls will play the musical instruments during rituals while Papa sings ;w;

These are the 4 Papa’s and their ghouls! Papa IV/Cardinal Copia has two types of mask for his ghouls because he was promoted from Cardinal to Papa so, the ghouls got new mask!

So, when they are talked about on this blog we are 100% talking about the characters!!

let’s start this off with ardyn is meant to be Christ, not noctis, and adagium is, while ardyn, not fully so? adagium is the anti-Christ, (the angra mainyu, the all the world's evils). there, i said it, i will die on this hill, and there are so many reasons for why. ardyn being the Christ figure is also why i’ve got a meta on his nature as the son of the astrals, rather than his mortal brother, somnus, but that’s a different topic. anyway, in the end, the only logical thing for the starscourge to be is a manifestation of human sin. it’s poorly explained in game at best, and this answer lines up with the many other allegories that ffxv decided to slap in there. so of course the scourge is a sickness of the soul and by that logic, ardyn’s death and noctis’ death … didn’t end the scourge, it ended the ability of the scourge to turn people into daemons. it offered humanity a chance at salvation. 

for 2000 years, ardyn has lived with the SINS OF THE PLANET in his body, they try to smother his own soul, but as we see in ep ardyn, even after verstael has him do all this awful shit, even as angry as he is at somnus, in the resist path ( which is the only path in my mind ), BAHAMUT TORTURES HIM INTO SUBMISSION TO HIS ‘FATE’. ardyn’s calling was as a savior, and what was done to him was unnatural and cruel. not to say that he wasn’t cruel, too, because he DID do horrible things, but let’s also think of how it was also confirmed that ardyn does’t remember most things about HIMSELF, because he has so many other people’s memories. he has so many other people’s sins. 

so here we are . ardyn has absolved others of their sins by taking those sins upon himself, and thus by the logic, he has turned into the daemon of daemons. or to go to my zoroastrianism influences, deva of devas, the ahriman, angra mainyu. of course he’s bitter. he’s been used by others to absolve them of their sins. so humans can be free to sin, he suffers, and it’s still his kneejerk reaction under all the daemonic influence of the scourge for him to do that. squenix mentions ardyn is also meant to be ‘the sin eater’, who takes the sins of others away. his ‘true body', where he weeps black tears ( or, in his first death, most certainly blood ), is referencing the phenomenon where holy statues are said to weep blood — the sign of a miracle . ARDYN CONTINUOUSLY IS COVERED IN ALLEGORY OF MIRACLES !!!!!! HELLO ??? not to mention his whole ass design, from name to his color scheme, is that of the dawn, the sun. to go as a foil to noctis, the night sky: ardyn, who was originally just ‘arden ( brilliant , burning )’ in his concept art … ardyn [arden] lucis caelum … burning light of the sky … the sun.  

ok you’re probably wondering what the heck the point of this is, but i sure do ramble huh. the point here is ardyn is, while doing badly, the savior. it is still ARDYN who must die for the scourge to be defeated, otherwise … there’s a chance if it was just noctis who needed to die, he … would’ve been killed. which is a horrifying thought. 

ardyn is … dealing with so much. for so long, ‘the sun’ has been smothered by darkness. when he dies, the scourge’s manifestation can no longer take hold of mortals, regardless of sin or lack thereof — although, in the end, all humans make mistakes, in some religious context, humans are sinners and that’s why Christ died. ‘to absolve us of sin’. but Christ’s death did not make sin go away, it only opened a path for forgiveness and salvation. similarly , ardyn didn’t make the scourge go away, simply his death ( or his blessing as a healer ), made it so that the sin of the person would not turn them into a daemon, so that they could find salvation thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

They bring up the fact that Hibiki isn’t doing her work and wonder if she has a job on the side, which isn’t allowed by the school. Miku gets annoyed and bails, with Hibiki running after her. Unfortunately, Miku runs faster...

It really would have been better played if it was played off that she felt hurt not because of the lie, but because she felt like she could have helped her better having known the truth, and it being a self-loathing sort of scenario for not being there better for her and not fully understanding the risk at play.

But no, instead, we get this.

Absolutely obliterated. A heart ripped, shredded, and sent to the Shadow Realm.

The episode ends on that note, but has a post credit scene.

Naked. On an old timey telephone. On a computer. Wearing stockings and long gloves.

The main antagonist of the series, everybody.

She’s talking the best English possible to some random-ass American when suddenly bursting through the scene is none other than:

Things to remember about fujoshi discourse

The term fujoshi means "rotten woman." It was created by misogynistic, homophobic Japanese men on 2chan, meaning a woman was "too ruined" to be married. Calling a woman a fujoshi is inherently misogynistic as it values a woman specifically on how marriageable she is with her worth specifically on how attractive she is too men.

Lesbians are the most fetishised LGBT group of all. Lesbian is the most searched tag on pornsites in several states in America, yet when was the last time you've ever seen "anti fundanshi" discourse. Real, actual women are far more commonly fetishised, yet think how much discourse and discourse blogs you see about that opposed to the fetishisation of fictional men.

Fujoshi discourse was started by TERFS specifically to stir hatred towards and send abuse to trans women who shipped mlm. The discourse was not even started by gay men and is inherently transphobic.

Japanese women reclaimed the word fujoshi simply to mean someone who likes mlm content. Taking a Japanese word that so many Japanese women choose to identify with then giving it a negative western definition of someone is homophobic and specifically fetishes gay men (and this is something Japanese are saying not me) is racist. If you are anything other than Japanese you are capable of being racist to Japanese people.

There are instances of anti fujoshi (surprise!) turning out to be majorly homophobic. If an anti fujoshi ID's as anything other than a mlm, there is a good chance they are homophobic. (Or transphobic too.)

It is common for women who previously ID as straight to discover they are LGBT through their interest of mlm content.

Gay men can be misogynistic

The inherent misogyny of fujoshi discourse does not make you immune to being homophobic if you consider mlm relationships sinful in anyway.

Shipping two men, even if they are a straight woman, does not make a woman homophobic. What makes a woman homophobic is "omg!!1 sinning hawt yaoi gaybies!! It's so wrong but I cant look away, I'm gonna burn in hell kyaaa!!"

If you are sincerely against homophobia and the fetishisation of gay men, and I mean actual homophobia like the example above, not woman who ship men or enjoy mlm content, maybe it's time we come up for our own western terms for it given fujoshi discourse is inherently misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic and racist in its origins.

And as a disclaimer, this is by a LGBT woman who does not actively seek out or consume bl content in anyway, who couldn't really care what anyone gets off to personally as long (including straight men) as long as they or the media is not homophobic and they acknowledge LGBT people as real people.

This Mod Replaces Ryo Saeba’s Entire Appearance and Weapons with Master Chief in his Halo 3 Design, along with the Magnum, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Brute Shot, Gravity Hammer, and Warthog. The Mod also replaces the UI to be of Master Chief instead of Ryo.

Needless to say that this is a pretty amazing mod that most Halo fans will appreciate. It is a bit weird hearing Master Chief speaking Japanese though (a new version of this mod with Master Chief’s lines replacing those of Ryo’s would be incredible, though I’m pretty sure that the modder does not currently plan on something like that).

But anyway, those interested can download this Halo Master Chief mod for JUMP FORCE from here. All you have to do in order to install it is extract the .rar file in your JUMP FORCE/JUMP_FORCE/Content/Paks/~mods directory. Below we’ve also embedded a video showing how you can install mods.

Rey’s Parentage Reveal In The Last Jedi is OBJECTIVELY Inaccurate

So buckle up, my folks. We’re about to take a trip down Logic Lane with a few stops along the way at The Force Awakens Way, Force Vision Terrace, and Skywalker-Solo Circle.

Where to begin?

Ah, I have it.

So, since The Last Jedi allegedly gave us an answer as to who sired young Rey and (spoilers) they’re supposed to be junk traders who sold their daughter for drinking money and then died in the sands of Jakku, a good portion of the fanbase has been up in arms, some simply dissatisfied, but some to the point of a vehement rebuke of the information, for various, very justified reasons. 

However, there is the minority of the fanbase that is satisfied with the information and moves on from it, pretending like everything is okay...which it isn’t.

Because who was said to be her parents is objectively inaccurate based on The Force Awakens, cinematic tells, and logical deductions from the current two movies in the Sequel Trilogy.

I’m not going to lie so I’m going to come right out and say it, I am emphatically Anti-The Last Jedi because of several things that are wrong, unexplained, or simply bad about the movie. Like, if I could personally strike it from canon, I would. However, I have another whole series (#the last jedi sins) you can read, if you’re interested. I am here to talk solely about how Rian’s vision for Rey’s parentage is inherently incorrect.

As has been discussed dozens of times, it was originally intended for Rey to be the daughter of of Leia and Han, in early concepts for The Force Awakens. However, so much has changed anyway, so I will not be staking anything on that debatable evidence. Instead, I will go for the more tangible evidence that we can all see.

Aside from the fact that The Force Awakens did, in fact, emphasize many, many, many parallels between Rey and Luke’s emergence in the saga, causing most fans to speculate who her father was, there is even more to talk about. You can read my extensive dissertation on that here, or just go to my blog and /tagged/rey-skywalker and see everything I have on it.

In TFA, Rey had a Force Vision of her, being held by the hand, calling out to whom we’re lead to believe are her parents, yelling at them to “Come back!” as they fly off of Jakku in a spaceship. 

Drunk junk...traders have their own, high-class spaceship? That’s fucking news to me. Like Rey, for all intents and purposes, lead a similar work life to her parents, and she had nothing...how did drunk junk traders have a spaceship? 

Apparently, they had sold their daughter for drinking money, also. 

W-why d-didn’t they sell their spaceship first? 

Now I get it, some people are turds, but...really? You sell your own daughter before you sell your ship? Your flesh and fuckin blood? 

Moreover, she was allegedly sold to Unkar Platt/Plutt for drinking money. 

But...nowhere in The Force Awakens did I ever get the impression she was a slave, which is what is implied from being “sold” to someone in exchange for money. It makes that person a slave.

Slaves, typically, aren’t allowed to go wherever they please, when they please, live wherever they want, and give what they choose to their master. The fruits of a slave’s labor are typically considered the property of the slaveowner. 

Also, slaves don’t usually sell things to their slaveowner. That’s not usually how slavery works. I mean, yeah, she’s selling it for food and supplies, but...it’s still not usually how slavery works.

For me, Rey was someone who was simply trying to survive after being abandoned. In this little settlement, she works/scavenges for food and supplies.

Also...thinking about it...if she’s a slave...doesn’t that make all the people selling stuff to Unkar Platt/Plutt slaves too? Because she was exactly like them. 

Furthermore, she could not have been a slave because when Unkar took interest in BB-8, she chose to not sell BB to him. Slaves- objectively- cannot do that. The slaveowner will take whatever their slave has, whether they like it or not. 

Unkar sent someone after her to get the droid, but that establishes Unkar has henchmen, not that she is a slave. Because she would have been obligated to agree to BB-8′s sale as soon as he was interested, if she was a slave. 

So she’s not a slave, therefore she could not have been sold for drinking money. She must have been abandoned or left there by someone.

Someone who cared about her, probably because in the Force Vision, she was wearing pauper’s clothing, but it wasn’t dirty or damaged. It was just clothing, basic clothing. Her face and hair looked clean. I’m actually watching this on repeat while writing this because I’m making sure my memory is clear and yeah, she looks in good health and hygiene. So her parents obviously did care about her. Certainly more than to sell their daughter before selling their ship for drinking money. 

Also, going back to the very beginning, her parents were allegedly junk traders. But drunks. If they were able to own and pay for the upkeep of a ship that size, they had to have been pretty well-off or at least comfortable. They would have had 

1. no need to sell their daughter to get drunk

2. been successful enough to actually have the money to do those things.

So, something is definitely amiss there. All of it is amiss from a logic and storytelling perspective. 

Additionally, it is canon that Kylo Ren does recognize her in The Force Awakens. In the novelization, there is a mention of Kylo Ren saying or thinking ‘it’s you’ when he interacts with Rey. That is completely unjustifiable if she is some nobody from Jakku. Kylo knows her. That is proof enough that Rian’s interpretation of her parentage is objectively incorrect. It directly contradicts text canon. 

Since we’re talking about Kylo anyway, let’s delve into the reveal again. I talked about it at length here, if you’re interested for a more in-depth analysis.  

When Kylo was trying to get Rey to know the “truth” about what turned him, although it makes no sense and is inconsistent with characterization and plot elements, he removed his glove, in a gesture of vulnerability and honesty when they touched hands. However, when he “validated” that her parents were nobodies, he kept his glove on and immediately pressed for her to make a decision to join him, through coercion, saying that she was nobody and has no place in this. It was clearly dishonest and manipulative, seeing as she wanted someone to “show her her place in all this”.  Also, look at the look in his eyes! There’s something else he’s not saying. (This is why Adam Driver is such an amazing actor!) He either never saw her parents or was manipulated just like Snoke manipulated Rey to believe he could be turned. 

And Leia sent Rey to acquire Luke from Ahch-To, even though she had been looking for him for fifteen years. Why her? Yeah, she’s Force-Sensitive, but so is she...but that hug in TFA? That’s more than an “I just met you, but I feel you” kind of hug. Leia buries her head in the notch of Rey’s neck, that’s a clear sign of familiarity. Most people only do that with people that they deeply, intimately know. Rey, on the other hand, keeps her chin on Leia’s shoulder, but as the hug goes longer, she moves her chin into the nook of Leia’s neck...there’s a familiarity growing inside Rey too. Leia knew, but Rey’s coming to know. This is body language and basic psychology, my guys. I’m not even reaching here. On Ahch-To, when Luke turns around, the look in Luke’s eyes is soft and haunted when he sees this girl standing before him. He already knew. 

With all of this in mind, she can’t be a nobody. Kylo wants her on his side..there must be some reason for that...especially because it is canon he recognizes her. She was never a slave and her parents couldn’t have been drunk junk traders because it fails the logic tests. And all the parallels made between her and Luke...can’t be a red herring. Why would they be there, if there was no point? It’s bad storytelling. 

In conclusion, Rian Johnson did not watch The Force Awakens, nor does he understand basic storytelling practices or logic. There is no logical precedent for her to be Rey Nobody, so she must be Rey Somebody. Even Rian admitted that they may undo what he did in VIII in IX, probably because he might have realized how much he fucked up with not making her Rey Skywalker/Solo/Kenobi. Rey’s parentage in The Last Jedi is objectively inaccurate.

More of a question. I love my recasts but want to have at least one that comes from its original company. I stumbled upon some really cheap ones from a shop named Mudoll BJD on TaoBao and first thought they must recasts, but then saw they were shipped from Korea, the higher shipping cost being one evidence for that . What's strange is that they're much cheaper on TaoBao than on their website. Could they be impersonating an already existing company? Is this a possible Chinese practice?

Yes Anon, they are legit, they’re not “impersonating an already existing company”. MuDoll (Glib) it’s a bit shady as a legit company (they are producing the FelixDoll “Brownies”, and even if FelixDoll is a, now defunct company, we all remember far too well when they declare bankruptcy in 2010, after months of taking the money of so many legit loyal costumers, and then the company changed it’s name and was owned by the wife of the previous owner, leading to the obvious conclusion that they declare bankruptcy just to legally keep thousands of thousands of dollars and deliver absolutely nothing to their costumers in a time where there was little to no protection for any payment made pass 30 days), and I will advice you to buy from other legit sites, if you want to buy legit and cheap (there are a lot of other options), but yes, they are legit.

The thing about TaoBao it’s that they don’t sell outside China (and Asia in general terms). So if you don’t live there (or have some relative that can buy stuff for you and then ship it outside to your country), you might browse their web and think “it’s cheaper”, but the prices are only for the internal asian market, for you, a western outsider (I presume), prices are higher. If you want to buy from TaoBao you will need a middleman, an agent, a service that will charge you a fee (like TaoBao Trends or TaoBao Ring), and that extra fee will be most likely the difference you’re saving by buying from TaoBao so it’s the same if you buy straight from the company website (made for western costumers).

Historically, the difference between the price listed on the Korean and Chinese or Japanese version of a site, and the price on US dollars for international costumers, has being and issue. There was a point in the bjd history when many sites had a difference from up to +%50 on their western websites. Elitists (now proartists or antirecasts, as you want to call them) let them get away with it for far too long adducing all sort of reasons that could never be proven beyond what someone said on a forum, but eventually, the rest of the people push them so hard to explain their prices and why there was a difference, that many companies (that are well known, from DollZone to Volks) had to made the so called “adjustment in the price exchange rate”, and using the same price on all versions of their websites (or lower the difference at not more than %5 percent from the original internal asian price).

You are not going to find this info anywhere else, the only ones who know about are the ones who were there when it happened. Could you talk about Daisy Johnson’s AKA Quake’s Martial Arts?

A little advice for the vibration anon, remember that you don’t have to give them full out Vibration Manipulation like Daisy but maybe Vibration Emission, which mean the character will only be able to generate shock-waves and the like but not manipulate existing ones

For the Quake Gauntles, I believe it was stated that because Daisy had started using her powers in new ways that the gauntlets where less effective and needed to be upgraded to handle the new uses of vibrations. I think that’s helpful advice for any character who is aided by tech, as they become more powerful and or skilled their tech might need to be upgraded to suit them and depending on heir status tag tight Not he possible

Oh my lord, okay guys, that’s enough about Quake. Seriously. Enough.

I’m not some kind of Quake expert -I’ve watched the same show that you all have, and actually a season less of it. We should all have enough critical thinking skills to watch the show and pull ideas, themes and good/bad parts from it. I’m not here to do your legwork! I know next to nothing about martial arts anyway, and so can’t help out  on a technical fighting level anyway. It works narratively, that’s all I can say.

Thank you to the anon who sent in the second two posts, I’m sure my other Quake anons will find them useful! However, I’m not here to clog up my blog by facilitating inter-anon discussion. The reason I ask people to come off anon is so this kind of thing doesn’t happen. Seriously guys, I’m not that big of a blog that if you stick a reply on a post, anyone but me and the original asker will ever see it. 

Also, I’m not actually an advice blog? Like, I love you guys, and some of you ask hella interesting questions that I love answering, and I do try to answer all questions to the best of my ability anyway. But this isn’t my purpose? I know a lot of (big) writing blogs get asked questions because people think they know what they’re doing, and I am flattered that people think the same of me, but…

I dunno, man. It’s hard work to draft these out, and questions like the above which are super specific and require rewatching and research on my part…it’s just not what I signed up for when I opened this blog. Maybe I’m just cranky because I partied super hard last night and got woken up early this morning, idk. I don’t want anyone to stop sending in questions because of this! Some of them are incredibly interesting and I love how they make me think, for example the one about anti-heroes I have in my inbox atm, and I think they can help more people than just the original asker too.

This is a retired gaming blog, blah, blah, blah. But I wanted to post this.

So I was playing Skyrim (Vilkas is a crappy follower -- Farkas is better) and for some reason, I started thinking about how I made that Loghain post about two (?) years ago and how Dragon Age fans misunderstood it.

I remember having some fans attack me, astonished and self-righteously outraged that I was "defending" a racist slaver. Meanwhile, other fans approached me in a friendly manner, shocked that I had apparently killed Loghain in the game even though I pitied him. These two groups were both under the impression that I liked Loghain, which was . . . utterly baffling to me.

It occurred to me that these fans must've been very young, because they were still thinking with a very black and white mentality. To them, pitying Loghain was equal to liking him (except it's not) and explaining why he did what he did in Origins was somehow the same as condoning his actions (again, it's not).

If I recall correctly, the purpose of my post was to recount Loghain's sins in a list where I explained why he committed each one through codexes, letters, and info I'd gathered in the game (working with Howe, Anora's schemes, etc).

Also, keep in mind that I always tended to write such posts after having taken my meds and right before going to bed, so they were often incoherent, drowsily written nonsense.

So ironic that I was accused of ableism while too out of my mind to write a decent post due to a medication for my MENTAL ILLNESS.

So ironic that I was accused of racism and condoning slavery, only to have my accuser turn around and make racist insults at me.

But whatever. Back to Loghain.

I think Alistair summed it up best when he said that people like Loghain and Anora think they're the only ones who can get anything done. Loghain thinking he was the only competent and trustworthy person in all of Feralden is half the reason Feralden nearly burned to the ground.

Yes, I pity Loghain. But, no, I don't like him. He's an asshole and I've never had a playthrough where I spared him (especially since I played elves so much).

I pity Loghain because he has PTSD and his wild paranoia was sad to watch. He truly believed Cailan was going to marry Celene when he clearly wasn't (something Inquisition and The Masked Empire only further proves -- Celene is queer, power-hungry, and in no way willing to marry a man) and if you take Loghain back to Ostagar, he rants and raves about Cailan's "betrayal" wildly. It reminds me of mentally ill people I knew personally.

So, yes. I pity Loghain because he is a broken soldier. And how could anyone have helped him? Thedas doesn't "do" mental illness well. As I mentioned on another post, Cullen is probably the first templar in (recent) history to open a rest home for broken soldiers.

What was more, Loghain had too much power. There was no one to stop him in the heights of his paranoia. Even Cailan couldn't do anything because he needed Loghain's help against the darkspawn.

Also, Anora would probably never speak to Cailan again if he sent her father away. I believe Cailan really loved Anora and was never going to marry Celene. Eamon (so high on having the king's ear) kept telling Cailan to find a new wife, and Cailan kept telling Eamon to mind his own business. So Eamon's letters, combined with the complete businesslike letters from Celene about an "alliance" both led Loghain -- in his feverish brain -- into believing his son-in-law was casting Anora aside, when nothing was farthest from the truth.

If you pay attention at Ostagar, Cailan is clearly annoyed by Loghain but can't be rid of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he suggested having Loghain retire to a chantry somewhere, only for Anora to become upset with him until he called it off. Remember, Anora practically worshiped her father.

Also, yes, I enjoy understanding the reasons why Loghain did what he did. That's because I'm a writer and I enjoy knowing the entire story. That does not mean I condone Loghain's actions.

I recall fans sneering on me for talking about gray morality and how the Gray Wardens were called GRAY WARDENS because gray morality is the entire theme of Dragon Age.

The fans were sneering on me because they thought I was using "gray morality" to excuse the elven slave trade. Only I wasn't. I never said it was right or necessary to sell the elves off to Teviner. In fact, it was completely unnecessary (when is slavery ever necessary?). And given the fact that my favorite Gray Warden was Kalian (and my second favorite was Mahariel) it was downright infuriating. (Kalian's father almost gets sold.)

Also, it wasn't Loghain that sold the elves. It was Howe, as theorized in another post of mine. Howe led a massacre against the elves after Tabris killed Vaughn, and when that wasn't enough to cow them, he used bio warfare and slavery to be rid of them. In fact, he did just about everything that has been done historically to people of color in real life -- why in FUCK would I excuse or condone this???

David Gaider stated on BSN (I believe the thread is gone now with the rest of the forums) that Loghain didn't even know what was happening in the alienage until you wave the slaver documents in his face during the landsmeet.

Loghain wasn't given a short stick by the plot. He was written wonderfully. He was written just well enough that you could pity him and hate him at the same time. And he felt very human. And very real. More real than Coryphshit, anyway.

Loghain had a full story arc with multiple outcomes. It's pretty much everything a fictional character in a video game could ask for. He wasn't given the short end of anything, in my humble opinion.

Even though Loghain wasn't directly (but was indirectly) responsible for the slave trade, he was still responsible for a lot of seedy shit. He was responsible for Uldred. He promised a man -- a slave -- his freedom, only to go back on that promise, which led to Uldred committing suicide by giving his body to a demon and wreaking havoc on the tower: the real Uldred was dead by the time the Warden arrived.

Loghain was also responsible for Redcliffe but couldn't be bothered to manipulate the Dalish into his control. No, they were already destroying themselves in a neat little plot about how the writers think white people aren't responsible for modern day oppression or whatever.

Anyway.

It's supposed to be ironic that Loghain depises the Gray Wardens and yet acts just like them, committing atrocities to do what is necessary (or what he THINKS is necessary) but not what is right. It's almost like the game was building up specifically for him to become a Gray Warden. Especially if you read the books, you can see what I mean. (The same kinda goes for Solas, though he's just a Loghain-expy anyway.)

My point is, fans of the game are too young to grasp its more mature themes, which reach beyond simple black and white ethics. Dragon Age: Origins is a world were nothing is black and white and nothing is supposed to be simple (again, not "condoning" slavery. Slavery is pretty simple: it's wrong). It's a world full of anti-heroes who do bad things to save the day.

Again, Howe wasn't doing something "necessary" in selling off elves, so I'm NOT talking about him when I speak about gray morality. I'm talking about Loghain, who firmly believed he was doing the right thing at Ostagar, even though he really wasn't. Loghain firmly believed that saving his troops and pulling them out would protect Ferelden, even if it meant sacrificing thousands of lives -- just as Solas believed sacrificing all those people on the mountain by tricking Corypheus into opening his foci was necessary to save his own people.

As a side note, it kind of pisses me off that Patrick Weekes wrote that segment for Solas where Solas talks about the battle at Ostagar being not so black and white. He tries to make it seem as if Loghain's actions could have actually been right in some way, but anyone who's paid close nerdy attention knows that Loghain was clearly WRONG. I believe this was done mostly to honor the player's interpretation but . . .

If Loghain hadn't barred the Orlesians from entering Ferelden, then pulled out his own troops, Ostagar would not have happened. Period.

During the first act of Inquisition, you can actually get in a fight with the quartermaster at Haven about Ostagar. It's another example of Patrick's Weeke's shitty writing, where he tries to get an emotional reaction from the audience by appealing to the player instead of the Inquisitor. He basically has no idea how to write for a video game and instead writes like this is a novel. 

The Inquisitor has no reason to care so passionately about Loghain and Ostagar, while those of us who played Origins do. Yet the Inquisitor is so angry, they act as if they were there (because we were there) when they really shouldn't give a fuck. This is immersion breaking, also stupid, and Weekes uses this method to pull us into the story emotionally multiple times throughout the game: Morrigan's introduction where the Inquisitor is smiling at a dangerous stranger as if they know her, the popular and much loved Teagan being a jerk in order to play on our feelings (and again not the Inquisitor’s feelings), etc.

Loghain wanted desperately to keep the Orlesians out because the war against Orlais had left him paranoid and suffering PTSD. Orlesians raped his mother and killed his father. Orlesians mounted the heads of his family and friends on pikes. Orlesians made his life a living hell.

And it was so, so easy to blame everything on Cailan once he was dead, wasn't it? But I don't think Loghain was really even blaming Cailan out of power-hungry maliciousness: he actually believed Cailan was a stupid child (Calian's name even means child) and would forever see Cailan through the "father filter."

Loghain has a Fade nightmare that was cut from the game and buried in the game files. In it, he is trapped with child!Cailan in the Fade and is bogged down by guilt and anger. He will always see Cailan as a child and will hate himself for killing him, even while still hating Cailan.

Yes, Loghain hated Cailan, possibly because he was the child of Maric and Rowan, Rowan being the woman he loved. He believed Cailan was a little boy who wanted war and had miscalculated the battle, when in fact Cailan was pretending to want war to keep his troops in good spirits (Wynne confirms this). Cailan knew they were going to die at Ostagar thanks to Loghain -- this is why he sends you and Alistair to the tower. I think he might have even known Loghain was sabotaging the tower.

Again, all of this is mentioned in Return to Ostagar. Nothing about Ostagar was "morally gray" as Solas (and Patrick Weekes, who apparently doesn’t know the story) would have you believe.

And yet, while Loghain's actions were very wrong, he was also not the mad, evil, cartoony villain Alistair saw him as.

Loghain was a sick man who believed he was doing what was right: THAT is what makes this situation morally gray.

Also, Loghain's an asshole because he's racist. I recall one playthrough he called my Mahariel a wild elf, insinuating that she was worthless because she was Dalish. And even though he worked with the Dalish in the books, he and Maric never really treated them like people. The elves fought in the war to liberate Ferelden and then got all of nothing for it and went right back to being socially, religiously, economically oppressed (correct me if I'm wrong). Sounds a bit like the Revolutionary War, huh?

All those nobles at the landsmeet screaming about how Fereldens don't believe in slavery, as if oppression ends at whips and chains.That entire scene at the landsmeet was very realistic, actually. How many white people today think people of color aren't socially, economically oppressed and that oppression ended with slavery? They'v got freedom and don't even know what it is. But if it was suddenly taken away, they would know. Oh, they would know. 

This grimdark crap is why I enjoy breaking the theme by playing a Warden who is not an anti-hero but a hero. Which means that Loghain always dies in my games because a hero would kill him, while a pragmatic anti-hero would make use of him.

The fact that Dragon Age: Origins is grimdark is what makes playing a shining hero so great. Dagna's line about the Gray Warden "It was a time of darkness, she was the only light" was perfect because of this.

I loved playing a hero who saved the day without resorting to pragmatism. I loved it simply because the real world doesn't work that way, and I wish desperately that it did; I wish that people could just be good for once.

I loved playing a hero and having Loghain realize my character was everything he should have been and everything he could not be. (Again, it's the same with Solas and a good, morally upstanding Inquisitor.)

That being said, I also believe a "good" Inquisitor would let Blackwall live. I believe the difference between Loghain and Blackwall is that  while one has a chance to overcome his own darkness, the other does not. Loghain never goes on a killing spree again should you let him live, but he also has to live in misery the rest of his life. Frankly, I always viewed his execution as a mercy kill. And if you defeat him in combat, he pretty much asks you -- with a content smile -- to kill him.

The point I'm trying to make, what I'm getting at is this:

I suddenly understand why series with more "mature," thought-provoking themes like Dragon Age and Mass Effect have been dumbed down and watered down into childish, cartoony, bullcrap.

The fans are too young to get it.

That's not an insult. It's just the truth. We're all naive and inexperienced at least once in our lives. That's the very definition of youth.

Look at Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World. The first game -- while still a bit ridiculous, adolescent, and cliched -- at least has more mature, thought-provoking themes, situations that leave you questioning if you did the right thing. The second game is a bunch of adolescent whining, cringey cliches, and utter nonsense.

Dragon Age: Origins went from characters with depth, meaningful choices, and interesting npcs to Inquisition, the light-hearted, bubbly, bland, cliched, MMORPG/Skyrim wannabe, where your choices don’t matter and your own followers treat you like shit long after you’ve befriended them -- but only if you’re Dalish.

Mass Effect went from the same deal (mature themes, blah, blah, blah) to watered down . .  . everything. Tactics, choices, any seriousness or depth was all replaced with button-mashing combat and campy comic book drivel (yeah, I went there). Though don't get me wrong: at least the combat for Mass Effect was fun across all three games.

It's like the writers went, "Fuck it. The audience wouldn't appreciate or grasp mature themes anyway!" and gave us a bunch of cartoonish, ridiculous shit.

I wish they’d stop. If young fans don’t get it, then they don’t get it. Why change your games when the audience is still the same?

I immediatly run into old swedish news about freedom of speech (OBS! It's not "speach" they're dealing about - so it becomes 'political' - if China isn't aware of the immature approach to words that now happen in Sweden, the region on the global map) - and today, The Guradian have a prize-win-newsarticle from the 19:th of November (see theguardian-link below). To exlplain a little about a swedish law-term ("defamation", in eng) called "foertal" ("to talk to early", also "to gossip", "lie about someone" and "to presume+spread rumours" - used in previous named "#metoo-campaigns"), I made this picimage/post about what can happen/be seen - when a population don't know what they do (when they're doing it). The Gatestone Institute has an article from Judith Bergman that says something about what have happen before in Sweden (published in April 2018) - and describe a former police officer, his organisation - named "The Webhate Investigator" - and their "cleaning of webhate online", sending reports of "incitament of hate" to the authorities - 750 reports were made in 2017, according to J.Bergman. I'll be back - must smoke! Back, and writing... out of these 750 reports only 14% led to a solid police-case - which means "foertal"/"defamation" was started in the other cases 2017. If I, myself, is an example/victim of such a personal "revolt" or "#metoo-campaign-pray" (they also had an hash-tag named "#ego_is_here", whatever that can lead into - "ego" is short for "egoistic/egocentric" in today's modern swe) - I don't know (it happens beyond you're awareness), but I see police departments and "thought-police" (mental doctors) do investigations the wrong way, with alot of presumtions/predemptions and accusations based upon plain out right lies. My own case is about being a stalker of an old (?) "girlfriend" - who that girlfriend is (I have had so god damn many - NOT!) or who really is the accusator of such "mumbo-jumbo", I never saw any name of either. It's hell upon Earth when "state attack the individual" - as if "legion" ("great in numbers" in eng) always were right in so called righteous manners. That's is WRONG! Even in Asterix & Obelix... Remember you're not seen... and "stoning" is an illness from a "goverment" - and I send that brilliant "idea", right back at you. As Obelix do, in his books. Swedish law enforcement is still going strong for another "Freedom of speech"-case (the chinese writer Gui, mentioned above) - but what kind of psychiatric division do they themselves support? If their own citizens are attacked in psychological warfare - by an institution they (in many many cases) has taken for granted - "granted" is a good, free gift, that please many... or should I say "most of the population", a collective or majority. But do they know anything about what truth is - or what to acknowledge it's opposite will lead everything to? Fantasy might be a funny thing, until it strucks yourself - then you have to fight d'evil within yourself - so, don't support truth's opposite... because that is "fantasy/fiction" - and being among the collective/majority in opinions or beliefs (in comparison to 'knowledge') can be your worst misstake. It's not a guarantee for your... success, in life... force. I can't afford to write that much about what happen in the world since I decided to go "another way" than the fake UN-Human Rights (article 19), in November last year, up in London, GBR. I have to "come back" without any greater unified insurance/protection, by "private means"/"private safety" as it also can be called - it has been done before (before UN and it's declaration). I writing my blog to fight what a socialistic red government of a "swedish region" (I proclaim myself being the true swede/the suede - so I don't like to call the region "Sweden" anymore, they are a BIG dissapointment to any who see what they do/done in this (my own) case) has done to myself, my private rights to express my knowledge in bussiness/economy and solving any kind of problems - within that region once. And it's not only up on the nordic plateau that smartness/cloven heads/v-stripe uniforms are "expressing" themselves. All that proclaim a "universal whole" goes into that Seinfeldt-joke - of "latest fashion", as it was from outer space. "Multiversal worldconceptions", is the righteous way of thinking. "Axes of evil" I've described in my little "Newspaper-giveaway" that I wish to spread for(e) a greater foundation of reality-conceptions among common/usual/normal or original people (there are differences, in the real world-conceptions) - the theorists are in a lead of a totalitarian control (in beliefs most easily described), but there's a change of plans. I today fight all theorists (farisees) as the most experienced in the world time of history, just to 'overdrive' my stance a little. My plan is to be able to solve the problem with "propaganda" and it's backsides (mindcontrol is "avail-able" is true fact - but not neccessary a good thing to use), everyone has to be watchful of how far you stretch your belt to kill/destroy the creator's "free will" and/or sovereignity, which is the right to "self-control", to NOT be forced into "follow lines"/conformism it's called in churches worst eras. "Gleischaltung" Adolf Hitler named it in his Nazism ("Nazi" is prince), which I believe (i'm not a follower) was his Taurus'es duty to "out"/reveal to the public/world population. A.Hitler showed physically what was controlling the world in the hether regions (his symbols, heraldic, words and power-structures/technics), during his "anti-crist-times"... where he did NOT kill his loved one... but was judged as a murderer anyway.
