hi! i'm actually really interested in the "is cait sith reeve" debate and was fascinated by your post since you firmly believe cait sith is his own person.

i'm playing through dirge right now so i can't comment fully on what transpires there, but based on rebirth alone i'm having trouble believing cait sith isn't controlled by him. i know your post said rebirth excluded a scene that made it clear cait sith is his own person, but I'm not sure what you're referring to exactly. The only thing I can think of is the original game, where Cait Sith sacrifices himself and says not to forget him even if another Cait Sith comes along...which is a good point, though one could potentially argue that Reeve is just sentimental.

Anyway, what I want to know is: if Cait Sith has a personality separate from Reeve and can move independently while Reeve is busy, then why does Cait Sith repeatedly go offline in Rebirth while Reeve is busy? This is the main argument I see and one of my favorites, so I think answering that could help your own. The only arguments I can think up are either that the devs wanted to give players clear hints that Reeve controls Cait Sith, or that he wants to make sure he's monitoring Cait Sith when the cat interacts with the party. But besides that, Cait Sith really doesn't act like a different person. Sure, he has an accent and is silly, but he doesn't make any comment whatsoever (as far as I know) that indicates he isn't Reeve himself. In fact, the party treats Cait Sith and the Shinra employee controlling him as the same person, and Cait Sith doesn't attempt to rebuke it. (Outside of maybe lying that he's a mere amusement park attraction?)

i do admit, if dirge seriously contradicts this interpretation, it's weird for the devs to go against it...but as someone who once believed cait sith and reeve were separate and changed their mind after rebirth, I just don't think there's enough evidence based on rebirth alone to claim that cait sith is his own person.

on that note, you mentioned cait sith has his own likes and dislikes separate from reeve and i'm actually really curious about that! do you have an example of that? :D It sounds like fun trivia lol (i really like reeve and cait sith...)

There's a scene in Dirge where Reeve and Cait walk out of the same room together, reacting to one another independently:

Further, Cait Sith only goes into stasis twice in the entirety of Rebirth as far as I can recall? Once at the end of a board meeting that Reeve was active in, but seemingly not for the entirety of the board meeting, as Cait Sith appeared to be mid-conversation and trailed off when Reeve got bad news—this makes sense if he's connected to Cait Sith and has the capacity to control him directly as needed, but not if he had to do so actively 100% of the time. The other time is in Cosmo Canyon, because he's clearly not interested in their woo-woo metaphysical nonsense, and he cites it as taking time to recharge his batteries.

Reeve is still working as Director of Urban Planning during all of this, so I find it super hard to believe that he's spending 99.9999% his time at a computer or mentally controlling and speaking through a doll while also running the department that is trying to put Midgar back together after the plate drop—particularly not since we have official meta stating that he's an Inspire, which I cited in a reblog.

Beyond that, there's this bit in the OG, which Cait Sith says to himself, in an empty room:

There is no explanation for this if Cait Sith is entirely remote controlled. There's no one else here to hear it, no reason for him to express these feelings—or even have feelings in the first place!

In Rebirth it's even more clear, because he expresses physical strain as he's literally holding the Temple up by keeping himself wedged under the platform. He's uncomfortable, he's physically taxed, he's in pain. Again, most of this occurs in an empty room, and would not happen if he was just a toy that Reeve had to control directly like a complex RC car or something.

The concept of likes and dislikes that are independent is less solidly shown in-canon, but they have distinctly different personalities, and Reeve is very clearly not interested in things like prophecies and the Promised Land and all that—he is a scientist at the end of the day, a civil and mechanical engineer—and yet Cait Sith's whole shtick is to tell fortunes! This is also something that he seems to enjoy doing quite a bit, even if he's not very good at it. (He gets better. Kinda.)

Cait Sith is obviously connected to Reeve, but it's equally obvious that he's not analogous. Presumably Cait Sith doesn't care when he's equated to Reeve because he is Reeve's eyes and ears in the field, even when he's not in direct control. The fact that he only really talks about himself as an individual when he's alone kind of implies that he'd rather the others not know, because he doesn't want them to be upset about what's going to happen to him; if he were nothing more than a glorified RC toy, this wouldn't be a concern, because he wouldn't have concerns at all.

14) that one thing you see in fics all the time

In a lot of Kimchay reconciliation fics on Ao3, a lot of authors like to write Chay running away and going off on his own.

And don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I can’t see that scenario of Chay leaving post-canon events as a plausible idea at all, but rather it’s that I disagree with the impulsivity with which he usually makes that decision in the fic, yknow? The impulsivity is mostly based on how he regards both Porsche and Kim at the moment, instead of it being a well-thought out decision on his part and giving the appropriate weight of consideration it deserves. And by this I mean more often than not, the running away scenario is a result of feeling abandoned or left behind by Porsche and/or the betrayal from Kim.

And see, I’ve always been a firm believer that Chay is a very strong, brave, and rational character, so the running away thing is an antithesis to this belief. Despite his young age, the narrative tells us that he's not as naïve as one might expect, and he knows his own worth and steadfastness. I’ve said it before too that at where BOC leaves Chay in the final episode, he has more reasons to stay than not.

He no longer looks at Porsche with the idealization of a younger brother, but it doesn't mean his loyalty to him is any less than it was before. His anger over Kim's lies and perhaps the sudden changes in his life is clouding his judgement, but it doesn't mean he loves Kim any less, or that he wants to cut ties with everyone in his life completely.

So the Chay running away scenario is something I can see under only specific circumstances, but it's an interesting interpretation by a lot of writers for the KP fandom that this character would completely drop everything based on emotional impulse alone.

16) you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

The babygirl/uwu-fication of one Kimhant Theerapanyakul--//HITS It's a bit vague, but certain headcanons such as:

-acts like a cat / loves cats -not knowing how to act on his emotions -not knowing how to articulate his feelings -no confidence in taking the lead in his relationship with Chay -allowing for Chay to bully him because of his lies, lol

Lol I've said it a lot of times, but I might as well go a bit more in-depth with it on here lol

Okay, see--here's the thing: it's hard for me to see Kim as having any soft edges or any weird, lovable quirks outside of his interaction with Chay and/or his brothers, because throughout the entire show, there's an air of mystery surrounding his character that BOC never quite shakes off. Honestly, my ongoing theory about that is the fact that they may be setting Kim up to be the "true" heir to the throne, as established in the novel. Which again, brings him a little bit closer to his book counterpart.

He's the only character in the show that has no comedic scenes--most if not all of his scenes are either soft/sweet w/ Chay pre-break up, rude to Big, an asshole to strangers, and angst post-break up, lol

He's a very controlled, serious-minded character who is capable of being vulnerable and open with only a select few people, but it's not his default state whatsoever. I don't think it means that he doesn't know how to act on his emotions, since the show shows us the contrary: he's physically affectionate with Chay once the latter confesses to him, and he didn't hesitate to sing to Chay of his feelings and his remorse for his actions that have hurt them both.

These aren't the actions of someone who's awkward with feelings and isn't aware of them; on the contrary, it goes to show that he's all too aware of them, hence his controlling nature from the beginning and his need to know what's going on.

Kim is definitely a character who understands what he wants and the effort he has and is willing to make in order to get it, be it Chay or wanting to know the machinations of his father and their family. Because of this, I just don't want to give disservice to his character by thinking that he's not capable of what he can actually do.

18) it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

THIS VERSION OF KORN! He's so different from the Korn in the show who's all scheming and be playing 4D chess with everyone in this life, and I'm just so surprised that not many creatives in the fandom has utilized him????

He just screams divorced male dad energy who miraculously got custody of all 3 kids during the divorce proceedings w/ the ex and doing his best to keep himself and his 3 sons afloat, all the while running an illegal empire on the side. XD

For example, the chocolate factory thing: he wants to get it off the ground for sentimental reasons, and the wrappers for the chocolates depicts his 3 kids. Adshjhjkhfdkj

For reals, I would have loved to have seen how this version of Korn would have changed the tone of the story, yknow? In the book, he definitely gives off that aura of an exhausted father who's doing his best to leave behind a legacy for his children, even if it means at the questionable cost of trampling on everyone else.

The fact that in the book he's divorced and the boys' mama left the family just a little while after Kim was born is honestly an interesting backstory for this guy, and I for one am here for it. LOL

25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write?

My toxic habit is that I go on google and look up synonyms of a word and search until I find one I like if I notice I'm repeating myself/want it to hit different. I should be using actual resources imo but I'm too lazy to go find them.

I also tend to research random things for accuracy (e.g. for S&S D, I often check what pokemon are available in certain areas for worldbuilding; for DIOH I recently went on a whole deep dive about sencha so I could incorporate cultural stuff & things like taste appropriately, etc.)

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Sweet & Sour Dipplins:

I recently said this but Kieran's dialogue regarding gayness was verbatim my memory of what little me said in response to learning about gay people & a family member's disapproval of gay marriage ("Isn't love just love, though?")

Some of the highlights of Juliana's character are based on what I aspire to be/try to be, and her character flaws are based on what I know are my own.

Not really irl stuff but I lazily decided Juliana's team is legit my Scarlet team because I didn't feel like putting too much thought into it LOOOOL

I think I pull from my interactions with my irl guy friends when thinking of what Drayton would do/say sometimes. Also same with the bromance that is Arven/Crispin.

I base a lot of Sweet & Sour Applins' behaviors off of cats. Sweet Applin is more of my freinds' domestic cats, while Sour Applin is closer to a cat I grew up with and saved from the streets. She had a very big love/hate relationship with me in particular DESPITE ME BEING THE FIRST HUMAN SHE WARMED UP TO AND THE LITERAL REASON SHE GOT A HOME-

One of the S&S kissing scenes is based on something I've experienced personally. I am not saying which one. 💀

The Dichotomy in Our Hearts:

People in my personal life often describe my disposition as being "sunshiney", but I can have my own broody rainclouds when I'm down lol. I usually appreciate being able to talk about my feelings but if I'm in a particularly rare mood of total despondence nothing will really work on me other than silence and physical touch. It's my primary love language and Kieran's own despondence being broken through with it in Chapter 2 is a very ME thing in hindsight LOOOOL

Juliana hiding her feelings is something I have absolutely done with crushes growing up, and her shy but curious and caring disposition is based off of my past self. How she will deal with her secret crush on Kieran will also be dealt with in the way I have dealt with my own (although this is coincidence and is for the plot).

A Sugary Sweet Kiss:

One time I went on a date with someone who was really really nervous the whole time, and I pulled a littleeeee bit from him when I was characterizing Kieran. I also dressed very nicely while the other person dressed down like Juliana and Kieran did in the fic. xD

So this person @tiesthatbindel @neolavender @neolilac @itunisaaa @neosprivateacc who champions Sakura and holds that Naruto is straight (they said he wasn't gay, didn't say he was bi either, and didn't seem to question his sexuality at all),

who holds Kishi is heteronormative and homophobic (🤦), has been harassing me on my private message and askbox. Here as well. They are using multiple accounts to do so.

Sorry guys, I had to shut off my ask box because this person is just refusing to leave me alone, all because I wrote lol to their comment. I was polite to them, and slightly dismissive perhaps, but this person is making it a mission to gather their followers to block me and hate on me. But seems their only followers are their own alt accounts. Heheh.

I think they feel slighted because I won't take them seriously. They really went from calling my content stellar, and God tier, to harassing me and trying to report me because I wrote a post over a year ago where I talked about my community being on the receiving end of systemic ethnic and religious discrimination in my country.

And a lot more but I blocked them. They are not only badmouthing me but denegrating other SNS fans that I happily interact with. And I am baffled. They simply won't stop.

To prove their point, they also gathered screenshots from a Hinata stan called 'chhote-pandit' who harassed me and several other SNS fans last year, someone who threatened to feed our intestines to their cats for shipping 'brothers', and called SNSers horny fujoshis and dirty lesbians. That person was banned by Tumblr. This person's account also seems to be partially banned. Why are SS and NH stans like this? Bah. Like it's some type of neurosis.

They think Sasuke shinden is canon. Lol. Thing is they went personal, and petty. While I put effort to link them to my content for their benefit, they skipped all of that and started to harass me on my message boards. When I saw that they were spamming my posts, I blocked them. Like I would with any other person. And THAT was their undoing.

Ah. Now one would think I am affected. And I do feel bad, both for myself and them because I didn't deserve this much craziness for saying fanfic writers should dig deeper and presented a research based and well reasoned perspective. And they chose to take offense and take it to a personal level, getting petty, verbally abusing me.

Meanwhile they don't know anything about my ethnicity, my background, my struggles. And if I told them, I can promise they will take it all back. Heh. It can be grounds for even suing them. Yeah, it's that significant. I come from a very interesting (and rare) socio politico cultural intersection. But I value my privacy and anonymity. One other SNSer asked me about it politely and as a response, I left some reading material with them as answer. It explains it much better than I can.

I also am not really bothered as of now because I think I hurt their ego real bad. Just by not taking them seriously. Because I said lol to their comments. They have bigger problems than my dismissal of them.

Anyway, I understand fandoms can be challenging and a lot of people with strong voices get dragged for it on Tumblr. Especially in Naruto fandom. Heh. But the simplest way for them to deal with it was to actually talk storytelling and characters with me, like I did, by sharing links to my content. Instead they got personal while not really doing any of that.

The reason I am here is the story, my boys, Kishi and I find it a lot of fun interacting with other SNSers here. I am grateful that people even make time to read my long winding, seriously long ass posts. Hehehe.

So if you see some stuff somewhere where people are talking about blocking me or talking shit, that's what it's about.

I found your work a few months ago because of the Sandman fandom, and I LOVE your writing, and I hope you'll continue writing for dreamling. With that said, I will follow you from fandom to fandom because your fics are sublime, so in the event you start writing for BG3, I thought that I should learn a bit about the characters and I have been happily googling away. One thing I haven't been able to track down is why the Gale/Astarion paring is being called bloodweaver. Please enlighten me.

ToT Anon when I say this made me SO happy I cannot overstate it enough, this is incredibly flattering. I don't have any plans rn to stop writing Dreamling! I have to finish doing You're the One I Need, and I am working on something that I might use for the Big Bang! But yes, I am in a bit of a BG3 spiral rn lol. This game has been in early access for SO SO LONG, and I am really just glad that my (not quite ancient) PC can run it! I highly recommend it for people who are fans of: D&D, the Forgotten Realms novels/setting, high fantasy stories, turn-based tactics games, Dragon Age/Mass Effect, and anyone who enjoys incredible characters. Seriously, Larian Studios has done SUCH a good job with each character, I would die for any one of my companions.

Spoilers for the game below the cut! Nothing major, it's all stuff you learn in Act 1.

As for why Gale/Astarion is being called Bloodweave, it's because Astarion is a vampire, and Gale is a wizard. Magic in the Forgotten Realms setting (where the game takes place) is accessed through something called the Weave. it's been variably described as the "source" of magic and also the way that raw magic can be manipulated. Like a sheet of silk laid over water, magic-users can poke different spots to let little bits of water through, but if they poke too hard then it damages the Weave and you can't interact with magic in the same way.

Gale has a really SPECIFIC connection with the Weave because he used to be in a relationship with the goddess of magic, Mystra.

Surprising no one, Gale and Astarion both attracted me because they have the same rough personality types as Dreamling, lol. Astarion is deeply traumatized, vacillates between embracing his monstrous nature but also having a very deep sense of morality about very specific things, and has an absolutely heartbreaking backstory. A lot of Gale's personal quest revolves around him falling desperately in love with something MUCH bigger than him and doing everything he could to impress it...only to fall short, and be tossed aside in the process. He loves cats, he cooks, and he reads poetry. He's also incredibly arrogant about his own magical abilities and deeply, deeply depressed. (Literally, there's a point in Act III where you can be, if you're romancing him, asked what his greatest shame/deepest flaw is, and the correct answer is that he thinks he and everyone else would be better off if he were dead.

Honestly, ALL of the characters are incredible. Shadowheart and Lae'zel are another pairing I'm interested in writing if I get the urge. Both of them were basically raised in cults and they start out hating and not trusting each other, and grow to respect each other over the course of the game (depending on your actions).

There's a little something for everyone tbh.

They broke up several years ago because George finished college in the states and had to go back home to the UK. It was less of a mutual decision to break up and more George panicking and dumping Dream over a phone call in the summer following George’s graduation.

Now that it’s been years, and George is back working a job in the US, he’s mildly horrified to find out that Dream works for the same company as he does, in the same building, in the same office. In the end, it's a case of realising that a lot of things might change, but the important parts stay the same.

okay okay HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE. I love this fic because even though there's angst, and past conflict, they've both aged and matured and (I think) handle the situation very well!! I love how the author has written this because it feels very real; even though you still love someone, time matters, and things don't just immediately click back into place. cute fumbling and slightly awkward encounters ensue but the ending is worth it :) a lovely fic by the amazing @didntstand check out their other fics too!!

Turns out, he was wrong. Turns out, there is another person on earth. He grins too much and wheezes like a tea kettle, but there's another person.

okay this fic is definitely a more graphic fic rec of mine, but is SO worth the read. post-zombie apocalypse, George and Dream are some of the last alive. It's definitely one of those fics where the world is ending so the characters resort to humor to cope LMAO its so good. make sure to read the tags, but don't let the MCD tag deter you PLS. I don't want to spoil anything but,,, everyone ends up together and happy and (kind of) alive in the end so :) READ IT its one of the first fics I read in this fandom! if you love dystopian style world building then this is for you

Gordon Freemind (HalMind)

Sexuality Headcanon: Questioning. He was straight before he pulled Hal out of that pipe, but now he's not so sure, kissing dudes is Kind Of Cool, Actually. He'll probably land on Bisexual or maybe Pansexual in the end. Gender Headcanon: Cisgender Male A ship I have with said character: Hal x Gordon >:3c They kiss and make out and smooch even >>>:3c A BROTP I have with said character: I think Mindey would be very on-and-off when it comes to being friends with people A NOTP I have with said character: Any ship where he's degraded. To each their own, I respect that, but I Fawking hate that shit. It Icks me way the hell out, keep it away from me. A random headcanon: THEATERRRR!!! 👏👏👏👏 I really lean into him having a thing for Theater stuff, based on him singing the Modern Major General song in episode 45. He and Hal watch musicals together and depending which one it is, they know all the songs and the words. His favorite is Pirates of Penzance, and Hal's is Cats. General Opinion over said character: I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM He really is the ideal man. He is me, we are each other. His entire monologue is just what goes through my head as I react to my day-to-day life. Loving him helps me to love myself, and it's been very healing to know this character.

Gordon Feetman (FeetHal)

Sexuality Headcanon: I think he's probably Biesxual, but he leans towards women. Gender Headcanon: I dunno, I would just say Cisgender Male off the top of my head, but whatever is cool lol. I don't sit on any one side of the line for Feetman just yet. A ship I have with said character: I don't really know, there are a few good, interesting ships with Feetman that I like. Feetman x Freeman(og) when people post that stuff. Freeman(og) seems level headed and sturdy, and he helps ground Feetman with all his flighty panic in a really nice way. A BROTP I have with said character: TOMMMYYYYYY I love the way Feetman and Tommy interact. Tommy becomes like a beloved kid of Feetman's or something, and it's just really endearing. I wish there was more content of Tommy and Feetman interacting like that. Always send me Tommy art >:3c I love him. /pla A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Benrey (fenrey??) Feetman Fawking hates Benrey and he makes that damn clear from Episode one to the finale. I've never liked those ships where the characters hate each other and then people ship them based on the fact that they are mutually incompatible. That said, I always abide by 'To Each Their Own'. I was indirectly tagged, but I love doing these tag games haha 😝 Anyway, it’s here in case anyone is curious about me lol

1. What’s your favourite sims death? Probably death by hysteria because it’s just so unhinged lol

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Maxis Match

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? I don’t want to admit it, but yes I do. I just hate how sims’ bodies change so easily when they have that one plate of pancakes or a slice of cake, but even when my sims do eat healthy they still gain weight... I have a set image on what I want my sims to look like and it irritates me when the game changes it (so please don’t take this the wrong way haha... I see my sims as characters with a specific design and I’d like for it to stay mostly the same unless I decide there’s gonna be a change).

I also edit the bodies of sims who are born in-game since sometimes their frames end up looking strange as they age up so I edit them so they look more natural.

4. Do you use move objects? All the time.

5. Favorite mod? MCCC for sure.

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? Outdoor Retreat since it was the only DLC pack at the time! I got the base game a few months after it first came out (in November 2014 I think)

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? People are probably gonna hate me for this, but I tend to pronounce it as “aLIVE.” I’ve always thought of live mode as “we’re now live!” like on TV or nowadays like livestreaming. I’ve always found the other pronunciation strange because I don’t think it’s grammatically correct? If it was pronounced like “LIVing,” then wouldn’t it make more sense if it was called “Living Mode?” Idk, “live mode” just sounds incorrect to me.

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I haven’t shared her on here, but the sim I consider to be an all-time favorite would have to be Kira Benjamin, my cranky old lady who is basically my own Agnes Crumplebottom. She’s a very fierce, boomer attitude-esque elder (dark, scary-looking lipstick included) who is married to a materialistic, child-hating man named Tom. Kira is part of my Newcrest townies collection and she and Tom serve as the “cranky old neighbors” since literally every other family in the collection has children.

9. Have you made a simself? Nope. I’ve thought about it but my simself would never be truly accurate because female sims are so tall in TS4 and I’m definitely not model-height like they are, so... 🤷‍♀️

10. What sim traits do you give yourself? Creative, Cat Lover, and Loyal

11. Which is your favorite EA hair color? I really dig that newer platinum blonde swatch we got in the 2021 update. I like that it’s a warm off-white, since the actual white hair swatch is cooler-toned and looks more like the white hair that older people have, and it doesn’t have the strange green hint like the other platinum blonde swatch has.

12. Favorite EA hair? I don’t really have a favorite but an honorable mention would have to be that braided ponytail from Eco Living. I love it so much!

13. Favorite life stage? YA since that’s kinda like the fresh start/prime of a sim’s life, but toddlers definitely follow closely behind.

14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? I’m definitely in it for the gameplay. I’ve built things before but I’ve never been great at it. I prefer to download stuff off the gallery, adjust things to how I see fit, and play right away.

15. Are you a CC creator? Nope.

16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? I’m still a pretty small simblr with not a lot of friends, but I’ve got a fair number of mutuals on here that I enjoy interacting with 😊

17. What’s your favorite game? Sims 3 for nostalgia purposes, though it’s just as riddled with glitches (if not more) than the Sims 4. I’ve made a lot of memories with that game though 🥰

18. Do you have any sims merch? Nope.

19. Do you have a YouTube for sims? Nope, but I did watch the OG LifeSimmer back in the day and thought about starting one up 😝 Now I for sure don’t want to since I’m not very good at speaking or video editing, but I’ve thought about livestreaming to small groups though.

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? My sim style hasn’t really changed much, but comparing my Newcrest townies (first made in around 2017) to my newer sims I’d say my sim style has gotten more realistic and natural-looking.

21. What’s your Origin ID? It’s NyhtHacker but I don’t have anything on there since my account is shared between me and my siblings. I did not choose that name, btw.

22. Who’s your favorite CC creator? I have a lot of favorites but here’s some I highly recommend: trillyke, Jius, ClumsyAlien, simstrouble, sheabuttyr, and AH00B.

23. How long have you had a simblr? Since March 2022, so a little over a year now.

24. How do you edit your pictures? I use Photoshop (previously Pixlr until they went the paywall route). I crop the pictures, use Camera Raw for brightening/filtering as necessary, and then add text if needed.

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? That’s a toughie but I’m gonna say Snowy Escape. Beautiful world with great CAS and build items; not to mention the Japanese culture. It feels a lot more alive than some of the other worlds/packs and I’m really happy about that.

26. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? I’d really like a fairies-themed pack. Fairies were my favorite occult back in my Sims 3 days, and now that we have all the other occults in TS4 I am crossing my fingers that EA will give some love to my winged friends!

- Victorian gothic aesthetic. Feminine lean. Can dress androgynous, prefers dresses and makeup more. Very elegant and fanciful, likes to douse herself in jewelry and wine to feel more uppity (PTSD from her past).

- Her backstory consists of formerly being a bard in Al’Hazir, practicing jests and crude humor only to earn extra coin rather than produce her own content due to the rich despising how light hearted it was. Because of her poverty and lack of home as well as family, and due to her intense desire to survive no matter the odds, she unwillingly changed her entire persona to fit her boss’ needs. Eventually, she went mad with how many times she had to strain and break her true self in order to just live, and came across the last performance for Deity’s Eclipse (Halloween). Seeing that the richer folks could afford prosthetics and costumes, Betty was only left with a dingy vampire cloak and begging for any sort of fangs. Being denied and told if she fucked up her performance in front of the neighboring city’s higher ups, she’d be cast outside to die in the winter, Betty resorted to shaving her canines into fangs herself with only a nail filer. This proved to be foreshadowing for when she became a true vampire — nobody telling the difference due to her canines having already been shaped to be fangs.

- Melancholic, pessimistic, has an awful view on humanity. Covers it all up with crude humor as a defense mechanism. Severe BPD. Doesn’t know how to take shit seriously because she has been masking for literal decades. Secretly VERY empathetic and gets attached easily from loneliness. Mentally incapable of not being a downright bitch with sharp sarcasm 90% of the time (ingrained defense mechanism). Wants her own children but can’t biologically create one as an undead so she’ll just adopt any fucking person she deems worthy LOL. Pansexual, no lean. Likes to sleep around. Does not give a shit about social normality.

- The Forgotten Realms brought out her serious side though — blood magic and becoming a sort of general and all to a bunch of Skaven. She’s very much used to violence and death due to this. Doesn’t bat an eye at bloodshed. Isn’t opposed to it either. Just don’t ruin her carpet or attire.

- Vistani and highly spiritual, doesn’t care for the Gods (they both share that tbh). Speaks in Patterna and Romanian. Has Celtic traditions. Was never a city folk, she has 0 idea how to socialize with people, was raised off the grid.

- Very androgynous. Muscled as fuck. (see s.triga or k.arlach) Literally just wanted to be a pretty princess before her body got disfigured and cursed as all hell. Extremely insecure over her appearance due to the looks she always gets from people (unwillingly intimidating). Barbaric and vintage vampire aesthetic. War paint. Envies other vampires for looking more normal and humanoid. Her wild shape is corrupted as well — to be a giant bat beast just like her vampire lord. Dreads how monstrous she is, just wants someone to find her pretty again.

- Bethanne grew up in a decently small sized vardo and settlement before being turned. Mama Andreá, a small elderly woman, was a psychic who ran a traveling business where she would read fortunes and read people’s souls. Catarina was her elder sister who taught her how to read nature and defend herself in the dark forests. Florin was her younger brother, who she mainly raised when Andreá fell ill. They all made up who she still is today — and without such humane love, Beth would have fell complete victim to the fatal strand and turned fully into a beast. Any souls that Noctus takes will never rest in peace due to his curse — and Bethanne is prophesied to be the one to behead him and set all the souls free due to escaping from his grasp and actively fighting the strand that’s always trying to corrupt her body.

- Pessimistic tendencies, but tries to stay optimistic for the sake of her party and hope to lay her family to rest by killing Noctus (her vampire lord). Any modern reference goes right over her head. Any social aspect goes right over her head. She is so fucking confused by society, I swear to god. You’re going to have to teach her everything normal. She knows how to read and write though, she loves to write poetry to vent. Excellent crafter, made all the toys for her vardo. Excellent at weaponry and archery. Knows tarokka. Was given a deck by Cassandra (Strahd in disguise as a Vistani woman, but no one knew it was her at the moment) as well (on request, but she already knows how to use it due to Mama Andreá having been a literal psychic who dealt with fortunes and divinity.) Humanity treats her like shit out of fear due to all the undead attacks, but she still loves humanity and continues to protect them despite her reluctance to. Highly and openly empathetic but has sarcastic tendencies. Usually pretty stern and serious, exhausted 25/8. Literally dreads her own existence because of how tiring it is to live with the curse and constant death around her. Everyone she’s loved so far has fucking died so she firmly believes her existence is a curse in itself that causes anyone who gets close to ultimately die. Is petrified to love. Wants to be loved so bad it’s ridiculous.

- When I fucking tell you she is HELLBENT on the hero complex. Not only was she forcibly turned, forced to leave her vardo at the City of Judgement, got this heavy ass prophecy shoved into her arms, and gets the nastiest backlash from the living just for existing as a vampire spawn, and having everyone she loves die around her, she believes that saving her loved ones and setting the souls free will be enough proof that she’s fucking worth something other than misery and failure. It’s not going well LOL this is COS everything goes wrong. She protected her first love interest until the very end until he caught feelings for her then got straight up kidnapped by one of the main antagonists — where he’s been actively tortured and experimented on slowly in an unknown location. She just found out about Cassandra and her true identity and is about to beat her ass silly for forgetting her Vistani ties but then she’ll try to save her ass too. It’s even worse because Vistani are so built on this foundation of acceptance and love and these two were originally two innocent Vistani women who may have even known each other in the past before getting entirely DESTROYED by vampirism and status. They both have the WORST mental health and PTSD too rest in pieces holy shit

- Hates violence but will instigate it over a short temper. Jokes about needless violence just to be a cunt with her weirdly dry sense of humor. Verbally harsh as hell and dangerously outspoken. Her intimidation comes from both her tongue and appearance. Has made a kid shit his pants before, and that was actually unintentionally JGHFHCVCH ,, has told a God and a devil to go fuck themselves, regrettably told Cassandra on their first meeting to fuck off because she was in a real shit mood at the time and Cass was joking about the fates not telling her if Beth would be tall or short (she’s 3 inches taller than Beth and Beth apologized later on and said she’s a train wreck to which Cass just stares at her and asked if the only reason she wanted to speak to her was to say she’s a train wreck and followed it up w it’s obvious you’re a train wreck and Beth just dead panned and asked her if she’s always such a cunt I fucking LOVE them LMAO) , has threatened an ENTIRE FUCKING AREA OF ROYAL GUARDS with her axe because one of them was being racist and threatened her party’s safety, threatened Ireena’s fucking brother too because he was just as bad as the guards and she HATES authority. im loving this series and i have a few questions about the thought process behind it,unfortunately some of my questions overlap with My Pride though.

how much was this series "inspired" by My Pride? did it start off as a sort of fix-it-fic that you realized had merit enough to be its own thing?

if that's the case, how many things in IHS are sort of parallels to things in My Pride, such as the protag's naming situation, a butch lesbian love interest for the protag, etc.

if Hope was indeed "based on" Nothing, what made you decide to make her disability a birth defect instead of a result of trauma?

i dont mean any of these questions to demean the originality of IHS btw. but now for more lighthearted questions

4) you said before that there will be humans in this series, i believe. are you worried about it being kind of a Warrior Cats situation where everyone's like "why are humans studying the beavers instead of the cats that reached the agricultural revolution and practice organized religion"

5) are all animals as anthro as the lions and hyenas appear to be? sorry if this is splitting hairs, im just curious if that's part of the worldbuilding. do the zebras have their own society going on?

6) theres a couple lions other than Diamond in the mountain/forest/whatever pride that appear to be physically disabled, such as one seemingly blind in one eye and one missing a leg. is this pride just way bigger than the golden grove pride so the amount of disabled lions is proportional, is the territory just more dangerous leading to more injuries, or is the pride like a safe haven that disabled travelers end up staying?

The comic started off as an AU where we were going to merge some characters together and take the story in the direction that we personally felt would've benefited it. Not really fixing it because that's pretty presumptuous but just where we wanted it to go.

I wouldn't describe these things as "parallels" because My Pride doesn't own such broad tropes? In fact, it pretty much lifted these tropes from Warrior Cats but some MP fans try and pretend that never happened lol. The only similarity we opted for was the disabled protagonist and, even then, we tried to make her differ from Nothing as much as possible. Hope and Storm were also based on MP OCs who were in a gay relationship that we had already and we naturally weren't gonna change that. Especially since Cat is a butch lesbian and deserves to be able to represent herself through her characters without MP fans insisting that MP copyrights butch lesbians all of a sudden and Hover was such a bad stereotype anyway. Storm's original design also actually came about in 2018, about a year or so before Hover's design was revealed so some similarities are just coincidental because MP's character designs are generic af and making similar looking characters is unavoidable.

We made that change because we wanted to show how a disability can be part of somebody as opposed to a tragedy in their life that hangs over them like it was in MP. Not saying that this is how these kinds of things are always handled in disability media as a whole but we just wanted to handle the disability theme differently from how MP handled it. We also didn't want Hope and Nothing to be viewed as the same character so giving Hope entirely different circumstances was essential for developing her as we have done. As much as I wanna hug Nothing: that's the whole point? We spend the whole series feeling sorry for her because of what happened to her and we didn't want Hope to fall into the same pattern.

No, because we've already established that the lions fear humans and keep well away from them. Even in situations where they could be present like with the Tigress, the irl situation regarding the tigers in South Africa is that their keepers interact with them as little as possible as they are wild tigers destined to be released back into the wilds of China. Also, I think our lion's philosophical beliefs aren't as obvious to the naked eye as large colonies of cats having a monthly ritual under the moon. lol

It could be argued that all the animals have their own societies going on, yep. Africa is a webcomic by ARVEN92 that explores this kind of thing. We're just personally not going in that direction because it's not important to the plot and it's also too much to develop societies for every single critter out there. lol

All of the above? The territory is slightly more dangerous than the Golden Grove due to it being based around an abandoned mine, so there are shafts where cave-ins and falls can injure and potentially kill the inhabitants. With Diamond's parents (and Bronze) being unfortunate examples. Hence why Bronze and the Tunnel Guards are a thing, they guard the more dangerous parts and help guide lions through them so they don't get hurt. On the other hand, disabled Travellers know the place is pro-Traveller so they will certainly settle there too. And you're good, I like an excuse to write an essay! Quick Physical descriptor: covered in scars, muscular but her subtle scale hide keeps it hidden it more so than a human's fat would combined with her own fat- her muscles can show if she flexes hard enough which is more in line with a lizard's body structure if you've ever seen that. Has bagged eyes and glowing purple eyes compared to her race's natural eye color from being born as a magic user toward undeath. A relatively thick and stocky body, built-like a honey badger for her species as while she's a Necromancer? DnD based Clerics (The usual necromancer class other than wizard) get up close and scrap. She's no different to this exception along with her minions, but tends to grapple like an oversized bob-cat and maul and tear out the throat or entrails with front or back claws recreationally when hunting or dealing with trivial enemies. Magic is used for actual threats and pretty seamlessly and easily when scrapping.

Inspiration: eh dnd and I just saw them around and was looking for a good reference. I will admit the voice is from my Ash for inspiration but I took the accent from the Orks in 40k bc I like them a lot. He will get a 40k verse and Warhammer as a Weird Boy and look a more in line in terms of gritty and grungy looking. A 'Weird Boy' which is basically a magic person for the Orks for context etc granted Warhammer I feel like they're called something else but I'll just wing it. I may even base her magic off it to some extent for how the Orks work because it's funny, but we'll see how much I do.

Her name will be Izzy, but full name Iz'rak Lumbah Bitah as she's a master carpenter and is a crafter of sorts in making shitty junk and contraptions that somehow work but just a savant when it comes to necromancy... to the point where most necromancers even liches would get a run for their money. Though I think I'll use my level caps as a request for dnd-esque character at lvl 10 so she can interact with other characters that want to fight her, but messing with her is fine for any verse. Just expect to bleed potentially or get non-lethally mauled. She's a 'bitah' after all and evil, playful but also extremely violent. She tends to like people alive though as forms of 'chew toys' to tussle with.

1. What does being nonbinary mean to you?

I'm on the agender spectrum, meaning my gender is more of a lack thereof. I remember growing up and resenting needing to group myself with the boys whenever the teacher separated the class by gender, but I also felt off being grouped in with the girls. I remember thinking it was so arbitrary to separate the class that way and felt that grouping myself with my friends (the oddball non-popular kids, a mix of sexes) made more sense because I had more in common with them than with the boys. I still feel this as an adult -- why does my body have any bearing on how I'm perceived and talked about in day-to-day settings? And why is there an assumption that I should act in certain ways because of my body? I don't understand what a gender is supposed to /feel/ like or how it would even correspond and/or conflict with my body if the feeling existed, despite knowing what gender is from an academic view. Nonbinary is felt to me not as a gender somewhere between or askew to the binary, but as a nonexistant feeling (and therefore not a part of the binary system). Like being born without a tail, I can see animals with tails and I understand how they exist in theory, but I can never know what it's actually like to experience having a tail.

9. What gives me gender euphoria?

This is a difficult answer because I'm not sure I actually feel gender euphoria (or dysphoria for that matter). However, I do have fun playing with butch/femme gender presentation from time to time! Using my tail analogy, I think this can be explained as putting on a fake tail -- I could, for example, put on a cat tail and imagine what that is like via role-play, or a lemur tail, or a dinosaur tail, etc. At the end of the day I will get tired and take the tail off. Similarly, I will present myself in ways that remind me of butch and/or femme styles and attitudes when I feel like it, but this is tiring and will be "taken off" at the end of the day. It's kinda like playing dress-up where I'm trying on a different characters (perhaps to try and understand gender?) Idk about that part though. I feel most euphoric in my body when I feel sexy, and to me that doesn't really have anything to do with gender and more to do with what I find sexy in other people based on their bodies and/or styles.

10. What misconception about being nonbinary bothers you the most?

I guess the assumption of gender within the nonbinary label, which is why I've started labeling myself as agender (which to me fits under the nonbinary umbrella). I like that nonbinary is open enough to be super inclusive, like queer, but I'd love for there to be more awareness of agender discourse and also the general discourse that gender is socially constructed and varies between different languages and cultures.

13. How often do you think about gender?

When left to my own devices, I think about gender never. 0% of the time. Unfortunately I'm often made aware that I'm being perceived by people's assumption of my gender very often when I'm out in public. I've learned to shrug it off because I know it is in human nature to categorize things and that it is baked into our language and culture to categorize by gender-based-on-perceived-sex. My ideal world is in Animal Crossing New Horizons -- nobody's interactions are based on how they perceive me and none of them remind me that gender as a social concept exists 🤣

i wonder how sbj feels about fic written for her story? That's why I don't like tagging these posts with the mth tag because I feel like that's both rude and like...

I don't know.

If I made a fanfic for a show I loved, shipping my favorite characters, and I felt like all the ships are basically otp, just for someone who's read my story and liked it, to come and rewrite it to fit their original characters in it, I'd feel... quite odd to say the least. 😐

So before the story -i'm going to get to it, I promise- I just wanna explain the premise here.

Such as SBJ has aged up the ppg and rrb, I've done the same for my characters.

In a very odd sense, Lillian Bella ,and Jenna are remarkably similar to Bubbles, Buttercup and Blossom.

In many ways, such as the way they interact with each other, their personalities and blah, you'll see what I mean as you read the bit I'm posting.

But I'm dead ass when I say, I made my characters way before I read more than human.

Their personalities did shift though because of other things that influenced me. Such as, Lillian is literally Cat Valentine TM and I know ppl say that Bubbles is also Cat but no-

I have based Lillian off of cat since like 2015. before the conversation for Bubbles started online.

Lol but whatever, these characters do read as rip offs :( i'm sorry.

Lastly, Lillian and Boomer where in a relationship. In this AU Lillian is basically the stand in for Hailey, and the break up made her fall on her ass hard. So yeah, maybe one day i'll repost that "chapter" where u can obviously tell she's trying to ask Boomer out before he inevitably goes for Bubbles.

here's the damn thing, with a lack of attention to spelling and grammar. it's based off of chapter 10 when the boys get sick.

Bella flew on her back as she guided Jenna and Lillian though the sky.

“They live right over there, beyond the other apartment complex,” she ordered them, “see?”

Lillian squinted into the distance, “Wow, you really do have good memory.”

“I’m your fucking sister, you should know this first.”

Jenna flew before them, “Come on, I don’t want to be over here too long. The professor should be on his way.”

“Oh, the Professor’s coming? I haven’t spoken to him in awhile,” Bella said.

“He was at the Introduction dance the other day,” her twin responded.

“I know, but we never got to say hi. Too busy bothered with… other things.”

“Like going to the boy’s house?” Jenna asked.

“Precisely.” Bella nodded.

They continued to chat as they neared the complexes. Talking eased Lillian’s nerves at least. Eventually they made it in front of the door. Jenna knocked.

“Go the fuck away,” Butch’s voice said, hoarse.

“Butchy boy, I brought you a present.” Bella said in a singy songy voice.

“Bella?” he muffled. There was faint shuffling before the locks of the door opened. It cracked as Butch peered.

“You actually came?... and Wow, you really did bring a special gift,” he said, oggling the other two girls. “Too bad I’m too sick to enjoy-”

“Butch let us in, we came to fix you,” Bella ordered bowling open the door. 

He stumbled aside as they walked in, “That’s one way to ask if you can come in I guess.” His slacked expression drifted to Jenna as she crossed the threshold. She didn’t notice him starring.

“This place is huge,” she marvelled.

“So is my room, you wanna check that out?” Butch offered.

Bella snorted, “You’re literally crippled right now, and you think Jenna want’s anything to do with you?” 

Butch was determined, but Jenna moved along the apartment, more interested in the layout and design.

“Butch” a throaty deep voice croaked from a lump on the couch, “I thought I told you to shut up. Why are you inviting fucking guest over?”

Lillian immedeatley turned her head. Boomer was turned to the couch he lay on, blanket over his head.

“Boomer, we’ve got ladies,” his brother grinned.

“I don’t care,” Boomer groaned.

“Don’t worry Boomer, we’ll be out of your hair in no time,” Jenna reassured him. She stood a bit rigid in the dining area, “We’re just waiting on your brother to come so we can get this process over with.”

“You sure you don’t want to stay for the hot tub?” Butch rose a brow.

Lillian was amazed. “You guy’s got a hot tub?”

At the sound of her voice, it seemed the Boomer lump went stiff. 

“Sure, if you guys stay over,” Butch sniffled.

Lillian considered, “Mmmh. No thanks, maybe some other time.”

“Think about it,” Butch muttered.

“I’m thinking about how the fuck you guys are survivng off of just silverware and cereal.” Lillian and Jenna turned to Bella who was scouting their kitchen. “What the fuck are you guys even eating in here? Do you share this?” She shook the cereal box she was indicating.

“Get out of their kitchen,” Jenna ordered.

“No. How about I go get food for their kitchen.”

“Volunteering to be a personal butler?” Butch peered up.

“You’re real funny,” Bella muttered opening their fridge. “I’ve got my own butler to demand around. I cant have a butler and be a butler. That’s just silly.” Just then the front door opened and everyone turned to.

Buttercup and Bubbles stood in the doorway, laddened with grocery bags.

“Huh. I’ve gotta make sure I lock that thing more often,” Butch noted to himself.

“Welcome to the party,” Bella said from the kitchen.

Bubbles instantly rushed to Boomer as Buttercup dropped her groceries, “I didn’t even know we were having one.” Butch helped himself to her bags.

“What brings you guys?” Jenna asked. Bubbles was sat on the edge of the couch, comforting her sick boyfriend.

“We’ve bout some stuff to help the boys feel better in the meantime. I’m cooking soup.”

“You’re going to cook for us?” Butch said, a sparkle in his eye.

“Don’t get too happy. I’m just doing this as a friend.”

“Oh Buttercup, you really are the bestest friend in the whole wide world.” Butch moaned blearily.

“Uh huh.”

“Hey! what about me?” Bella called from the kitchen, closing the fridge door. “I came to help as well.”

“Help raid our pantry?” Butch offered.

“No,” Bella replied back just as snarky, “Help bring my sister so that she can make you guys feel better faster.”

“She’s telling the truth,” Jenna sighed, pulling out a chair for herself, “Lillian is here to help with recovery. But aside from that I have no clue why Bella tagged along.”

“Emotional support.” she said as if it were obvious.

“Guy’s I don’t mean to be a mood killer,” Bubbles said gently from the couch, “but Boomer say’s that he’s really tired and he’d like some rest.”

The room replied with various apologies before ending the conversation. Having nothing else to distract him, Butch eventually fell back asleep on the floor as Buttercup began assorting the groceries, the other girls offering their help alongside her.

“How are you feeling?” Bubbles asked as she poured a fresh glass of water for Boomer and carried it over to the couch. “Any better?”

“I guess. At least until you leave.” He grinned weakly at her, and she smiled.

“Ugh, now you’re making me sick,” Buttercup gagged from the kitchen. Lillian had just finished chopping the carrots and dumped them into the bowl beside her. Jenna was washing dishes and Bella made use with Butch’s playstation portable in the meantime.

Bubbles shot a disapproving look over her shoulder. “Nobody asked you to stay,” she retorted, and Butch raised his hand from where he laid on the living room floor.

“I asked,” he pointed out. “Because Boomer didn’t feel like playing with me. ‘Go play with yourself,’ he said.”

“Hey,” Boomer warned, eyes narrowed. “We got ladies in the house.”

“Ladies cooking for you, no less,” Buttercup muttered under her breath as she set a pot of water to boil. “A little help, Bubbles?”

 She picked up the bowl of vegetables Lillian had just chopped up for her. “Well, at least I got some help. Thanks, Lillian,” she mumbled giving her sister a pointed glare.

Lillian giggled, “It’s no problem. I love cooking.”

“I can tell. You did good with these.” She shuffled the bowl around inspecting the cuts she was granted with.

As she did so, Lillian went to chop some onions, quietly keying on the conversation in the livingroom.

Bubbles looked down at Boomer and smiled again. “Drink your water.”

The look on his face was apprehensive. “Don’t leave me. What if I drown?”

Bubbles stifled a giggle and tried to look serious. “You’re going to drown in that cup of water?”

“I’m very sick, you know. It could happen.”

“You’re just… you’re so silly!” Bubbles laughed, and leaned down to kiss him on the forehead.

“Hey, how come I don’t get any kisses?” Butch sounded upset.

“Bubbles! Help much?!” Buttercup snapped. “Seriously, for Christ’s sake!”

“Alright! Keep your shirt on,” Bubbles grumbled, squeezing Boomer’s hand before heading for the kitchen.

“Please don’t,” Butch said hopefully. “Please don’t keep your shirt on.”

Buttercup pitched a dish towel at him.

Bella who had headphones on and was sat at the dining table, removed one muff not taking her eyes off of her game, “Are you guys seriously talking about fucking while the boys are sick?…. Because that would be actually sick.”

“Put your headphones back on,” Buttercup grumbled pulling out a spoon.

“No. I want in on this. If the room is in favor of an orgy, I am too.”

“But didn’t you just say that was sick?” Lillian blinked innocently as she peeled her onion. Bella was too distracted by the game in her hands to answer.

“She is no help,” Buttercup mumbled.

“Trust me Buttercup, her being occupied with the game is the greatest help you’ll get from her in this situation.” Jenna said nonchalantly drying a dish and setting it aside.

“Yeah, Bella’s pretty bad in the kitchen,” Lillian giggled, thinking furtively back to her sister's many kitchen atrocities. 

Bubbles had joined her side. She was bright, “Ooh! Blossom’s not good as well. I guess we all aren’t so different after all.” she said giddy.

Lillian quietly looked at her as Bubbles, chipper,  reached for a knife herself. She decidedly moved her cutting board to the other counter where Jenna was apart of, “Yeah, maybe so,” she said in a quiet voice. Bubbles blinked.

Some tomatoes was set in front of her.

“Get to chopping,” Buttercup ordered. 

Bubbles rolled her eyes lightheartedly and began chopping up a tomato, all the while she cast Lillian a distrait look over her shoulder.

--And lastly, closure between Lillian and Boomer--

Lillian was the last at the boys house. As awkward as it was arriving, eventually with the day panning along she’d loosened up and got more comfortable. 

After the girls left, Jenna surely left. She checked on Brick before leaving though, but he’d been asleep. Lillian noticed she’d been glancing at Brick’s door all day, especially when Blossom was in it. 

After she left, the professor showed up. He was very delighted to see Lillian and Bella. They talked for a while, shared pleasantries, and then he did his part before waving goodbye. Bubbles had waved too and thinking back to the hard time Lillian was giving her today, she granted her a small wave back feeling a bit guilty. 

Eventually, Bella fell asleep at the table as night fell and Lillian worked on her personal remedy that she needed to give to the boys before she left. 

She looked at her glowing hands and sighed, then casted a look at the living room. Boomer and Butch had left for their rooms. She thought about calling them out, but figured their day was hard enough and shook out her nerves before starting off-

“Want me to go with you?” Bella mumbled beside her. Lillian blinked to her.

“No. It’s fine.” she mumbled before starting for Brick’s room. 

Brick was asleep luckily for her, so she made his visitation quick, so was Butch. Boomer’s room was the door she hesitated in front of. The soft sleep of her sister was just beyond her, like a personal reminder to get a move on.

Lillian swallowed thinking back to the one and only time she got a glimpse of his room. It was a Nirvana poster and an acoustic guitar, and it stayed that way and it was perfect that way when she thought about it. 

She placed a reluctant hand on the knob and twisted very gently, easing the door open as not to make a sound. 

He said nothing. 

She opened the door a little more and shuffled in, trying not to be so awkward about this. She got a good look of his space. There were posters plastered everywhere,  mainly blonde girls and rock stars. She noted those blonde girls specifically though, and wondered, grudgingly, what he’d ever saw in a girl like her?  

His room was a little messy, not as wild as Butch's but messy nonetheless.  He was lied on his bed turned to the other wall with a window shining dimly behind curtains. It was dark, but she didn't want to wake him up so she used the light around her to her advantage. 

When she reached him, she halted, hovering above him a bit. She felt her stomach doing cartwheels.

He slept very peacefully on his side. He didn't snore or breath heavy, he just lay real still, blankets pulled over him. 

her hands tingled to touch him with the remedy. She took a deep breath and reached out for his shoulder-

He turned. Lillian wretched her hand back and gasped. 

His eyes were open but heavy. 

"You're still here?" He asked, surprisingly nonchalant. His voice was still sore, she could hear it, but it was also drowsy. 

"I'm… I'm here to help you." Lillian whispered. "Get better."

"Mhh," he hummed. Then he sniffles. "You're not gonna get sick?"

"I'm immune to the virus naturally," she said fiddling with her fingers.

"Oh. Sweet," he muttered.

She touched his shoulders feeling how incredibly warm he was. It was worrisome, though all the boys had that temperature tonight. The light in her hand navigated slowly through his body.

As she waited for the remedy to pass through, she cleared her throat, a bit awkward. "H-how long were you up? Are you okay? Do you need water or…anything like that?"

"No. It's okay." Boomer croaked. "I wouldn't want to bother you."

Lillian looked simultaneously confused and frustrated, "why would that be bothering me?"

"Because like… you still sort of hate me and all."

Lillian went quiet. She bit her lip looking down. She didn't hate Boomer but…

But maybe she was being a jealous friend. 

She sighed shaking her head, "Boomer, I don't hate you." She said softly. She looked at him, "I'm sorry for making you feel that way."

He coughed and looked down, "You don't have to apologize."

It was quiet for a moment before Lillian muttered, "I feel like I should." 

It was quiet again. 

"Well whatever I did, I'm sorry too," Boomer mumbled. 

"That's the thing," she mumbled. A horrid sense of guilt began to wash over her as she looked down at her shoes. "That's the thing about this entire situation.  You've done nothing. You don't deserve to feel bad because I'm upset. It's just not right and… I'm being a bad friend trying revolve everything around me." She blinked, sadly, "I'm-... you're not in the wrong here."

Boomer looked at her. She didn't catch the gaze he casted her.

“Sorry,” she finally breathed.

His hand was hot as it clasped around the wrist of the hand healing him. She finally looked up into his eyes, though sick, ironically warm. 

“Me too.” He said, his voice soft like a whisper. “About…everything. About how it all went down.”

She could tell, he was talking about something different. Deeper than her entire petty dilemma, and that struck something within her. Something regretful.

Was this the only closure she was going to get? A tragic one?

As she looked into Boomer’s eyes, recalling the look of admiration he once gave her that he now gave to another girl, she came to a stubborn realization.

That perhaps she was asking too much from a boy. A simple boy, who only wanted to move on, and for some reason she wanted to keep him forever. It could simply be that she needed to let him go and appreciate the extension of friendship he offered her over and over again.

Even when she ignored it. Even when she hated him for it. 

The pressure of his hand went slack as he began to drift unconscious, probably too exhausted to keep up with the conversation he engaged with her in the first place. 

She stood by his bedside, hand on his shoulder and her heart heavy.

Bella shook her head awake as a tap came to her shoulder.

“We can go now. I’m all done,” Lillian whispered.

Bella made a loud ‘Phew’ sound that Lillian immediately, sternly, shushed amidst the various snoring in the house. Bella stretched to get up, “You were taking forever, what time is it?” she yawned.

Lillian tugged her phone out, light briefly illuminating her face, “It’s 11:20.”

“Whoo! We just stayed past curfew at the rowdyruff boys house,” Bella cheered. Lillian winced.

“Go. The fuck. Home.” A dark voice muttered from Brick’s room. Both twins looked to his door.

“We should go.” Lillian whispered hurriedly, to her sister as she steered her out.

“But I wanted another bowl of that soup-”

“Come on,” Lillian said, pushing her out the door. She locked the bottom, even if it seemed futile to do so, out of respect for their privacy, and possibly to discourage her sister from trying to get back in.
