The whole point of this manga is that people are more than their quirks. That their quirks do not and should not define them. If you look at Keigo as finished in his narrative, as useless to the story without his wings, you are genuinely buying into the bullshit he has told himself about having to prove useful with his dirty wings. You are believing in the same idea that led him to manipulate and kill Twice because he was worried about the latter's quirk being so dangerous. You are agreeing with the idea that Tomura can do nothing but destroy.

That is not what this manga is about. It's about breaking the beliefs we have swallowed about ourselves or have been forcefed from society to abusers shoving them into us.

Keigo Takami has never tried to be more than Hawks. More than the Winged Hero. He believed that boy was a broken, dirty one who couldn't help anyone and was willing to put him aside for an identity groomed for him, because he is still internally the child being asked what good is he for by a neglectful and abusive mother.

But Tomie and the HPSC are wrong. Hawks was wrong. Even AFO remarks that Keigo's quirk is garbage. Losing his wings, gradually and now with this final removal, is actually Horikoshi making Keigo reckon with who he is as a person. And people are not their quirks. The whole point is that Keigo's cage was always, always himself.

Hawks can't trap him any longer. He has now face up to who he is outside of heroism, outside of his quirk. So this isn't the "end" to Hawks as a character because it was never about who Hawks is. It was always about Keigo.

Okay Hawks fans. Your boy survived a head-on fight with AFO. And you KNOW Hawks is a bad bitch with or without his wings. Hell, for much of the AFO fight he’s been relying on prosthetic wings. Hawks, as a human being, is a highly trained spy and intelligent combatant. AFO can’t take that away. PLUS Hawks now has a quirk vestige inside AFO. The spy has infiltrated! That means Hawks can find Ragdoll’s vestige and lead the vestige revolt from within….which makes Hawks’s comment about AFO not losing any quirks as he rewinds even more interesting.

I do wonder what the point of Twinkifying AFO was tbh... especially if you consider hes trying (but keeps getting distracted) to get to deku who has no idea. Is he just going to get confused theres a random 12 year old in the fight now??? Horikoshi is doing something here and I dont like it.....

There are two wolves living inside me.

One wolf wants teenage AFO to meet Izuku only for Izuku to go full violence on sight and beat the crap out of him. Like, this is a blood bath.

"You defeated AFO! How did you recognize him?"

"This was AFO???"

Because sometimes, when the vibes are rancid, you just have to throw hands first and to ask questions later.

The other wolf wants Izuku to see a mess of a teenager trying to flee a battle and assuming this is a lost civilian and actually trying to help him. AFO, absolutely exhausted and going through accelerated backwards puberty, just plays along. Though, he isn’t sure if Izuku is pulling his leg or not.

Mt Lady falls first, and I could swear Horikoshi is trying to troll us all for thinking he’d kill another female pro hero.

AFO takes out Machia with a freakin laser beam (but is it a belly button laser???)

Is Mineta the last one standing to face AFO? OH MY GOD, IT’S AFO vs MINETA AND MINETA WITH THE SACRIFICE PLAY — HE’S YELLING TAKE MY STICKY BALLS AND NOT DARK SHADOW!

AFO uses the moment to escape and head towards Shigaraki when…….

Cut to the evacuees, where Natsuo prepares to protect Rei and Fuyumi (awwwww) because the shelters stopped moving and La Brava doesn’t know why (cue Tsukauchi aging another 5 years). Inside the shelters some people are watching the livestream of the battle, so they know what’s happening. AFO’s spies make their move in the shelters and they’re stopped by the combo of Gunhead, Kendo and Tetsutetsu from 1B, and Death Arms (back on duty for the moment)!

Death Arms talks about how a “thorny path” awaits him…which is exactly what AFO’s hologram message told Izuku after Nagant….and what Iida said to Nezu and Endeavor. Given that Death Arms didn’t move a muscle to rescue Bakugo from the slime villain in Chapter One, it’s good that he got his “my body moved on its own” moment.

Going insane over the way AFO lifts the sword out of his shoulder because it’s so. He doesn’t even use his hand, his palm, to grab it. He uses the back of his hand to lift it up and away

For someone like AFO who we know has a Big Thing with his hands - not just with his quirk but the way he uses them, the way he Offers and gestures, the way they trap and cover - seeing him not even care to properly lift the sword but, instead, lift it with the back of his hand; it’s so clear the attack is nothing to him. The object is nothing to him. By extension, Hawks’ efforts are nothing to him

And the thing is like. This is such a specific gesture. It means so much body language-wise for a character like AFO, but ESPECIALLY because it was drawn by Horikoshi, who has said that “hands are the body part most capable of showing expression and character”

Personally I would have been talking about stuff like this anyway but what gives it more weight and appeal for me is that I know Hori likes drawing hands. That means he puts a lot of care into how hands are drawn. So the fact that I can look at this panel and know that this gesture was drawn with care for how and why the character would do it, that it FITS the character so well, is just really good
