And because James Flint is a man of faith, if he sees the value of a vision he will actually just follow it, but he doesn't understand that that's not how most people function. Usually, if people don't feel included in the vision, they refuse to follow it, no matter how valuable. Which is why they get taken in so easily by conmen and charlatans with no vision or morals but excellent salesmanship and manipulation skills. (ahem).

So I did this with Harry Potter, I’m working on doing it with Mortal Instruments. Only fair I do it with Grishaverse trilogy as well.

Will I read the novellas? Lol no probably not. Am I having a bopping time with the main series? Yeah. It’s good distraction of being a trans high schooler in America right now.

Here’s what I knew going in:

Nothing! I knew it was connected to Six of Crows and set up the fantasy better so I was recommended to read it first so I DID. i had no idea about ANY of this plot.

Spoilers for all of Shadow & Bone trilogy. I have thoughts <<3

1.) Shadow & Bone ( 24/3/23-27/3/23 )

I really liked this first book !! I wasn’t particularly. Attached to any one character but I will say that I fell for the Darkling hook line and sinker.

Alina is. Alina? I don’t hate her. I don’t love her. I think she’s a pretty basic main character, she’s definitely not my favourite mc ever. I think she’s certainly the right fit here, I know some books I read and go “this main character is NOT for this” but Alina !! She works.

I think this book could’ve been more interesting if Alina, rather than being like “the chosen one” was the kind of person who decided to make themself the chosen one. Does that make sense?

All this critique makes it sound like I hated this book, I think it’s genuinely really wonderful and totally worth it’s hype. I made playlists for this book. Like not just my standard “title - author” playlist. I’ve got playlists for Alina and the Darkling and Nikolai (WE’LL GET TO HIM.)

2.) Siege & Storm (27/3/23-30/3/23)

This book IS GOOD. im going to say that because I did enjoy. Almost all of this.

I think Mal and Nikolai’s little. Whatever that was. Was so funny and I think that so many problems could be avoided if they just had a little kiss. Throuple it up baby. Alina has two hands. Also Mal you’re DOWN BAD for the prince and we can ALL tell.

I LOOOOVED the pirate arc. Obsessed with it. Gobbled it down. It was SOO good. Love pirates. Love Sturmhond not taking the Darklings shit. Love the fact that none of these people take any of the grishas shit.

LOVED ALINA PUNCHING HIM.

i think Alina and Nikolai and Alina and Mal are both equally good endgames honestly. I wouldnt be mad with either. But IDEALLY they’re all holding hands and making out. I am PUSHING the Nikolai/Mal agenda. I am FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE.

The ending was mid. I didnt like it very much. I think the Darkling STILL SURVIVING was BULL.

And if NIKOLAI IS DEAD I WILL NOT FINISH RUINS AND RISING. I WONT

especially if we get a Darkling redemption arc like I think we might be.

I literally. Nikolai and the twins? I’d die for them. Alina and Mal can die and I wouldn’t mourn but if ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY PIRATES I’M RUINED.

3.) Ruins & Rising (30/3/23–5/4/23)

My vow going into this book was that I’d be happy is Nikolai lived. I had so much faith. SO MUCH FAITH!! For 240 pages!! I was a FOOL!!! I was a stupid optimist who thought my lovely little princeling would get to live a happy life!! I was rooting for them !!

I WAS WRONG !!! Death is too good for our Nikolai even though he’s literally never done anything wromg EVER !!

I would’ve liked to know what Alina and Mal changed their names to. Thats all I can think of in my hazy mess of Nikolai thoughts.

Also in my perfect world they’re in a throuple. Maybe Tolya is in there and its a polycule but its MUCH funnier if he’s acearo and covers for their stupid asses all the time and is SO annoyed by his king and his kings girlfriend and his kings boyfriend.

i wish matthias’ dreams of nina had been more explicit. what was there was good, i love that she switches from temptress to passionate goof in the flashes, bc it’s his idea of her as the grisha seductress (which he thinks is sexy and is ashamed of) existing next to his dreams of her as the snarky woman he comes to know her as (which he also thinks is sexy and he’s also ashamed of). but my favorite scene probably most people’s favorite scene that defines them in soc is the “everything. i dreamed of everything” scene and while what we got is part of that “everything”, part of that “everything” is his fantasies about hurting her, and her hurting him (and his shame surrounding both of those things).

nina is very aware that matthias has genuine thoughts of murdering her - hell, inej and kaz are aware of this and it’s why inej is so disgusted with him in soc, because it’s not something he’s shy about. that’s what gives them the spice ya know, and i recognize it’s a lot easier to get across that dynamic with words because you leave things implied vs a visual medium, you have to see Matthias fantasize about Nina saving him and he betrays her by violently murdering her, and later fantasize about Nina saving him and he runs away with her, and both of these fantasizes making him feel shame, and then we have to still love and root for this character. so i do get simplifying that to sexy, longing dreams that he feels guilty about having.

Let's kick things off with a mega-giga ask compilation!

I've spent the last couple of days working through the backlog, and I've been able to answer some quite old asks that were spoilers at the time they were sent.

John entered the Medium shortly after Easter Sunday, and he did so by biting into an apple. Forget about the god tiers – his most powerful transformation is clearly Catholic Beast Mode.

To be honest, I don’t think I know enough about any Aspect to ‘get’ it.

If I had to choose, then I'd probably feel the most natural affinity for Life and/or Doom – and if was forced to pick one, I’d say I'm very slightly more drawn to Life, just based on vibes.

Number symbolism is just very flexible in general. All Hussie really had to do was introduce a few 'important' numbers, and the fandom could start finding them everywhere!

Based on ~ATH’s association with curses, as well as Sollux’s programming hobby, I think there’s a decent chance that Doom relates to coding in some way.

Coding is all about rules, so perhaps Doom, is, in fact, the aspect of rules and logic. I'm not sure why such an aspect would be named 'doom', but it's been obvious for a while that these aspect names aren't always literal.

Oh, there are official names for each color? That’s going to be helpful to disambiguate each blood caste, especially when we really start digging into troll culture and biology.

Yeah, I’m still not sure who this ship is supposed to represent.

They have Terezi’s eyes, but the hair and symbol look like Karkat’s. Plus, Nepeta hates this ship, which would make sense if it’s between her crush and someone other than her.

Honestly, my best guess is that it was meant to be Karkat, and the red eyes were just a mistake on Hussie’s part.

Aradia has real blue indigo blood in her veins, and it almost certainly belongs to Equius himself. He could have got it from a donor, but I personally doubt there was anyone else he could ask. Equius feels like he'd be an outsider, even to other indigo-bloods.

Forced might not be the right word, but she certainly felt some amount of obligation to pacify him. She sure wasn’t in that relationship for the good of her health.

Yup. I’ve always held that Tavros never wanted anything to do with Vriska. He doesn't want to love or hate her - what he really wants is to live in a world where she doesn't exist.

Vriska’s refusal to accept this basic fact is one of the main reasons she’s decided to make his life a living hell.

If there were minor variations in blood color, the Empire probably wouldn’t want to acknowledge it, since the stratification of blood classes forms the basis of their society.

We haven’t seen any trolls besides our twelve (apart from Troll Will Smith) so we can’t compare the blood of two members of the same caste - but we can speculate. Human blood color is known to vary depending on its oxygenation level, and I imagine troll blood would reflect its current chemical composition in the same way.

The Big Joris Physiology Post

Aka Liveblog - Dofus, livre 1 : Julith [PART 15]

This is the true most important moment of the entire movie because this is all of us @ Khan and Bakara.

Anyway, judging from his reaction, at this point, I would wager that Joris knows what sex is. As one of the Funny Jokes of the movie will imply in a few minutes, he has started puberty. While Kerubim is, at all times, irresponsible, maybe, just maybe, he decided to, just this once, be normal, and inform Joris of what is occurring.

The more realistic scenario is that Joris read about it in a book. And it was probably not an encyclopedia or anything age appropriate. He probably still doesn't even know what a puberty is. Tragic.

His father died. And they're trying to jump one another's bones.

I would literally just die.

As I've said, it's likely that Kerubim once again neglected him: Joris has no idea what this means, or that this might be an inappropriate thing to say.

Joris is growing up at a normal human rate, and will be physically an adult at the age one would expect him to be an adult.

Growing up is the maturation of an organism, while growing old is its slow and natural decline due to cell degradation. For this reason, it is logical to me that as a child, he is still aging normally. This might mean that Joris's cell degradation is that akin to a dragon: either entirely absent, or significantly slowed.

While it's obvious that his short stature is not due to his aging issues, it would mean that, just like with his skin and hair, the dragon posession messes with his hormonal levels. What I'm saying is that Grougalorasalar gave him fucking growth hormone deficiency?? If the guy messed with Joris's pituitary gland, then that means he probably messed with his entire brain.

I would assume it is likely that he messed with his cognitive functions. Without Grougalorasalar, Joris would literally be a different person with a different temper. And that's kind of haunting.

Joris being bald his whole life, but suddenly growing some hair down there, also means that the fucker gave him alopecia totalis. AND made him a scalie. What!!!

On the topic of growth hormone deficency, btw..,,..

New Joris childhood headcanon dropped. What if,,,. Can you see my vision here? Yeahg.

(No wonder Kerubim is fucking insane as a father. 'Salar's presence probably made Joris a very sickly baby, because his body just couldn't handle it until he was older.)

Considering he is not usually covered in them, I assume that he does not moult like a lizard, and that they are, in a way, akin to invasive growths that hurt/itch a little. Kinda like acne.

Summary:

A fun little side perk of being a demon is that Crowley only gets to see the world in shades of grey. That is, until that world is touched by one particular angel.

They say that it's not the fall that hurts, it's the landing. That's a partial truth, at least for him. The landing did hurt—his bones had shattered almost methodically, travelling through his legs and up his spine like a shiver; the whiplash from his head hitting the ground had felt like an explosion of guts in his mouth. But the fall had hurt, too. Because the wind had cut into his useless wings like knives, his skin and grace peeling away under the friction, and he had been looking right up at the multicoloured and unreachable expanse of sky just to see it fade from his eyes into dull greys. And that was that. For the indiscriminate time afterwards, he and all the other demons wandered Hell's corridors like strays, lost and trying to adjust to a new life where hope looked just as bleak as despair. They wore all black, because the identifiability of that darkest shade meant that they wouldn't have to worry about clashing colours. An inconsequential problem, maybe, almost laughable in its insignificance, but it was the one piece of self-dignity they could still control. Back then, that was everything.
