My Re-read of a storm of swords and i just cant get over how interesting it as book with iconic lines and carefully crafted dialogues and some miserable important deaths of some of my fav characters. Like this book, is really the iphone of asoiaf lol. A fine wine. Arbor gold. It starts from same events left incomplete in clash of kings but only that now every person meets their consequences and disastrous results of wrong moves & mistakes end so perfectly and painfuly in conclusive way. A feast for crows obviously focuses more on king's landing events and some of the riverlands with brienne and jaime. Might say it isn't my fav book yet since im reading it too apart from some breathtaking prophecies and aemon declaring how prince that was promised could be --> dany

However, ASOS is best best book ever. So much mess and bittersweet endings.

You see catelyn, robb and riverlands arc ending in the most tragic way as result of all small excusable mistakes to the reader that piled up and finally execution of red wedding with bangs and drums, not to mention this event was so catatonic and an irreversible tragedy that almost all characters had visions and dreams of it (patchface, Ghost of high heart, theon, daenerys, jon perhaps later) knowing half of these characters never met the victims of the red wedding.

This event also meant - northern power of houses and faith of independence and somewhat retribution they deserved or wish they had is thwarted now and almost all of them die there esp strength of dustin, manderlys along with boltons betraying them and roose coming out as an iconic cold hearted brute and villain somewhat.

This book also shows how stark sisters had their paths turned after the tiring chasing and running away like arya through war torn lands and sansa finally fleeing KL to Vale with littlefinger - in a way a complete revival again of her and arya embarking on to braavos with an entirely different name now and somewhat purpose we dont know yet also ends her arc of sadness and despair she felt when chasing and running towards her lady mother and robb at the twins. kind of tragic tbh more for her how she saw or heard almost every death of a stark. near to her or family, she saw horror unfolding in front of her eyes.

You have lannisters coming off as victorious ( not really then...) since tywin and tyrion's last scene is iconic. Its like how the might of house lannister which in case tywin refers to himself is broken on a freaking privy - somewhat bittersweet ending since we know cersei and jaime are already not so in a good mental state to make up for heir of casterly rock - and then we have tyrion fleeing too again, once more, finally, to essos as we know. This ending of his arc in KL is also imp since he entered this city like tywin as hand of the king and is leaving like a prisoner. Idk seems perfect to me how he runs and tywin who came as hand of king replacing his son, now goes back in ehh coffin...glory indeed.

You have bran and rickon already parting in ACOK, BUT now the most importent part of brans journey also begins somehow. and therefore him abandoning winterfell and that side of north for further journey is too sad for me too in a lot of ways. His connection to his own home as the last stark who was residing there has ended too (prob bloodraven has more action for my boy i hope).

You have Lysa Tully in the Vale before sansa arrived there with baelish, and she also ultimately gets too much of frightening end in same castles and doors she never opened for anyone - even refusing to help her sister during war because now i wonder had the vale signed for stark side, how different circumstances would be but then tywin wanted to play rains of castamere so bad (i hate him sorry)

Jaime and Brienne still were busy in their road ventures and romantic comedy but him arriving as cripple and maimed to KL, is again of uttermost importance since he in his thoughts lose a lot of confidence in himself now not really making him a perfect candidate for so many things,,, again he has to sort out some issues with his big of bully sister and not-so-accommodating power hungry deluded father but he chose to argue and decline offer for heir of rock and also confessed his utter disregard for poor kids he have, joffrey especially. Idk im so confused what this golden lion & a trained chivalrous warrior is onto since jaime's chapter is like a realistic slap on your face & we see his POV in ASOS only and then he just goes thru huuuge turmoil lol. (not good day or year for him tbh)

Lastly we have daenerys who then vows to settle in mereen making it evident in way how she isn't obsessed with utter power and throne of her ancestors as some ppl speculate, ofc she appears in ADWD again but her freeing slaves and singing dracarys is my another fav momet of ASOS, since dany is really not a frightened confused child she was, she is getting hold of things in realistic way too, and meets barristan, gets to know abt their betrayals, basically gets Unsullied, idk a major iconic moment if u see in contrast to how everyone is losing war now in westeros and wo5k is coming to kind of an end, with balon dying, robb and joff dead, and stannis...(well he is another spiritual case) going to the wall, we see how horrifying brutal war did come to an end in ASOS in the end eventually with tywin also dying. So dany getting an army of unsullied opposed to all other armies kind of dissolving in westeros is quite a distinction. ( bonus points she is young and woman and alone and has 3 dragon )

On the Wall - jon plays and practiced swords with emmett and then struck by memory of him and robb playing & above all how he wants to be lord of winterfell. In the end Jon Snow wins the vote in a landslide victory and is named the 998th Lord Commander. His entire journey from start of ASOS was with ygritte and Wildlings and then finally giving up on mance and returning to Wall with no expectations of him being commander after having spent moments alone and with wildlings and others with him just a ranger.

Realising in the end now, how storm of swords puts people in power like jon and dany and others like boltons and freys in north & riverlands, at the same time starks and lannisters are in way battered and struck by at a time tragedies. Half of people who were away from their families unite or return back like jaime while other half return somewhere more far (arya sansa at vale and braavos with bran more far from winterfell, rickon too), most of the 5 kings are dead too. Also aftermath of war at end of ASOS and AFFC also describes perfectly the attitude and responses of smallfolk towards whoever results in being the king of no concern to them. Most of the small roads and inns were damaged and plundered with woman and children killed or raped and men usually dead too. When we see arya or jaime and brienne usually, we read their POVs, we also see the wrenching elements of war too and how main message could also be that lords play their game of thrones but peasants suffer dreadfully more, we also see how smallfolks have no trust or loyalties towards any house or liege lord. They usually refer to starks and lannister conflict as 'wolves came...or lions did this'. Major point i noticed.

not to mention again, in essos and on the wall 2 different realities and places that mid westeros, we see dany and jon and their ingrown different experiences and attitudes towards smallfolks. freeing of slaves and getting some loyalties tied to you, while living with wildlings and seeing how they rule and eat and sleep like a commoner is so important. The Wall also gives meaning to how real breathing humans are segregated from westeros and other houses as result of prejudice and inborn enmities. The slaves in chains indicate how their little lives in Yunkai is not of importance when they are...utterly children. some of them.

ASOS has major shifting thoughts and stories tbh. Its like gospel of asoiaf for me.

the first character i ever fell in love with: pretty sure it was arya! i loved her destroying bran in archery right away. what an icon

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: i really don’t think there have been any characters i stopped liking (more the other way around). i have to say that the poor writing of the show post-season 4 really made me annoyed by some of my absolute favourites but i don’t consider those versions of them to be canon.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: i really loved jon and ygritte initially but as time went on it was pretty clear that a huge part of their romance was jon trying to survive since he’d been captured by the wildlings. i think he had genuine affection for her but i don’t think he would have broken his night’s watch vows and slept with her if she hadn’t insisted that he prove that he wasn’t a crow anymore. it all left an ick taste in my mouth and i certainly don’t ship them.

my ultimate favourite character™: TYRION LANNISTER! and jaime this is so difficult i want to keep listing favourites but truth be told almost no one comes close to tyrion in the first four seasons. if we’re talking asoiaf -- i’m reading the books now (halfway through acok) and his character is a lot darker than his show counterpart. i still love reading him, but i think my asoiaf fav has got to be catelyn. her povs are just incredible and so deeply sad.

prettiest character: they’re all so beautiful but daenerys

my most hated character: melisandre. no explanation necessary i despised her ‘lord of light’ bullshit from the moment she was on screen and it only got worse from there

my OTP: is there any answer other than brienne and jaime

my NOTP: jaime and cersei (or really any incestuous pairing). jon and sansa (they count as incestuous, they were literally raised as siblings). cersei and bobby b (love them both individually but god he needs to stay away from her). dany and drogo (not a romance in the books either). we don’t know much about them but rhaegar and lyanna (i just feel like this storyline goes completely against what we’ve been told lyanna was). and there are a lot of others (joffrey x anyone, ramsay x anyone, littlefinger x anyone, etc.)

favourite episode: what the shit there are so many high quality episodes :( however i seriously love the penultimate episodes of the first four seasons. and 6.10 gets a mention here because i think the sept of baelor sequence was outstanding

saddest death: not going to count the season 8 stuff here. but if i did it would be the death of jaime’s character development (”to be honest i never really cared much for them. innocent or otherwise” come here so i can slap you). either cat and robb, or my girl margaery :(

favourite season: season 3 was the best television i’ve ever watched in my life

least favourite season: seasons 7 and 8. yikes!!!!!!

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: genuinely have never been more confused in my life than when i became active in the fandom and realized that people liked stannis. loras was so right when he said that stannis has no personality. renly you should have been king i miss you <3

my 'you're a piece of trash, but you're still a fav' fav: nobody exemplifies this better than the lannister twins

my 'you're a beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this' fav: literally any and all of the starks. also brienne of tarth <3

my 'this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it' ship: i really like tyrion and sansa tbh? the age gap is definitely questionable but they just have so much respect for each other that it’s hard not to root for them

Sooo as my re-read of asoiaf proceeds I'm kinda rearranging my top faves a bit this time. So here goes.

Top fave PoVs:

1. Sansa (lol some things never change and nor should they lmao)

2. Tyrion (ugh the trauma the drama the fucking melodrama keep winning king)

3. Cersei (taking the lead over her twin whaaat)

4. Jaime (good but not as spicy as his siblings)

5. Bran (I just really enjoy the "voice" in his chapters! And the magic stuff is sooooo interesting I forgot lol)

6. Dany (still packing action, intrigue, personal growth, interpersonal drama, and yea, the context of a teenage girl making grown men quiver is entertaining AF so sue me)

7. Arya (this time I was like, Arya's adorableness is high key underrated? Like yes she's forced to kill and is fierce and kick-ass and brave and has boundless anger and so much unresolved trauma but she's also just a little kid and it's. Super cute and also super heart breaking.)

Honorable mentions: Arianne Martell, love her, rooting for her, want to love her PoVs more, but the overt exotic "lush" sexualization of our only WOC pov character keeps me a little grossed out. And Melissandre!!! you do you girl keep burning stuff lol

Non-PoVs I still love: Oberyn Martell, Sarella/Alleras, Gendry, Hot Pie, Myranda Royce, Mya Stone, Jojen Reed, Meera Reed, Missandei, Maester Aemon (my fav Wall person) and my all time favorite exasperatingly successful shit stirrer and villainous mastermind Petyr Baelish.

FFIX Appreciation Week~

Because I always arrive late, here's my little appreciative post! ❤ I wish I had the time to paint an illustration, but a class is draining all my time- more than I expected in fact- so I'm just going with this!

Day 1 → Favorite scene/cut-scene ALL of the night of the attack on Alexandria. The drama, the cutscenes, Bahamut, Alexander, the Invincible, Steiner and Beatrix fighting back to back, Zidane rescuing Garnet, EVERYTHING. *gestures at the gif below* It’s all so beautiful and heartwretching.

Day 2 → Favorite location The Black Mage Village. I would live there honestly. Everytime I play and get there, I can almost feel the sunlight shining through and the wind through the leaves, and hear the water running through the Village. Daguerreo is a close second! And I’ve sometimes spent hours in the Gurgu Volcano or Bran Bal listening to the music theme.

Day 3 → Favorite song/theme You’re not Alone. Honestly how dare they use this theme for Kuja in Opera Omnia and make me cry like that.

Day 4 → Favorite eidolon/summon/command This transformer boat.

Day 5 (July 05) → Favorite side-quest/mini game I would rush through Tetra Master matches sometimes, but then spend the entire day on the Chocobo Hot and Cold game. Honestly.

Day 6 (July 06) → Favorite boss/battle There are a few monsters/bosses I honestly feel bad beating. Like little cute Tantarian. 200% would pet.

Day 7 → D-DAY! A free day! When I have more time...I’m SO going to paint a Kuja fanart...

When I played FFIX for the first time, I was about half my actual age. With time, replaying it again and again, this title really grew on me to become my absolute favourite, not only because it features some of my fav characters of all time (*cough Kuja *cough. I’m not vocal about this on social medias but my friends may as well strangle me if I keep talking about him with this frequence. I’m sorry for this torture and grateful of having you in my life), but also because of the incredibly deep themes it portrays. Remembering the main theme of the game gives me relief and warms up my heart to this day.

Just a few more things before ending this:

A little thing I’ve always loved about FFIX is the chromatic symbolism in the colours of Zidane and Kuja (and their trance forms), and Garland, and how the theme returns in Memoria too.

The whole Steiner x Beatrix beginning with that letter gets me every. single. time. Favourite FF ship EVER. Hands down.

I NEVER kill the Gimme Cat. It’s a good cat. Would give scritches.

Morbols are cute. I don’t make the rules, sorry.

1000 jumps at the rope is just inhuman.

When I had the PSX, my first disc scratched. I had a save file in Cleyra, so everytime I wanted to replay I had to start from there. This is probably why I remember the story better from disc 2 onwards xD

FF9 was (and is?) really underestimated when I bought the game. I wasn’t really convinced with playing it at first because of this, but gosh I did finish disc one in a single afternoon.

Rufus’ Welcoming Ceremony played in the Evil Forest. Awesome.

1. Which character do you personally relate too? --- That is a tough one. Arya is my fav character for sure but I feel I most relate to... Sam. I also want to just be allowed to read books all day with some good food and not have to go out into the world to do things.

3. If you could revive one GoT character, who would it be and why? --- Shireen. For one, her death was one of the most useless things I have ever had to witness, it always felt like a way to just get rid of her (while completing the Stannis character assassination). If she was alive, it would added so much to the story. She would have been the last Baratheon, trapped in the North, with only the Starks for the allies. It would have a perfect opportunity to have another strong female character, and she would have been a connection to having the Stormlands involved.

5. What are you top five GoT ships? --- Arya/Gendry, Brienne/Jaime, Jon/Daenerys (before she went “mad” for stupid drama reasons), Greyworm/Missandei, Bran/Meera(before he became a robot) (thinking about the answer to this question made me upset all over again that the only ship that was really around at the end was Sam/Gilly, THE ONLY ONE)

7. What’s your GoT NOTP? --- This is a popular ship, but I don’t get it, Jon and Sansa. I know in the show that cousin incest isn’t an issue, but I don’t see them as cousins, they are brother and sister.

Game of Thrones soundtrack retrospective: Season 1

First, a ordering of the tracks by their themes.

House Stark’s theme – 5 4 tracks: "Goodbye Brother", "Winter Is Coming", "Kill Them All" (+ the main theme in the last seconds), "Victory Does Not Make Us Conquerors", "King of the North"

House Targaryen’s themes – 5 tracks:

Dany & Drogo’s love theme : "Love in the Eyes", "When the Sun Rises in the West"

Dany’s theme : "Fire and Blood", "Finale"

Viserys’ :"A Golden Crown"

Conspiracy’s (it will be Petyr’s after S3) – 4 tracks: "A Raven from King's Landing", "A Bird Without Feathers", "Await the King's Justice", "Black of Hair"

Main theme – 3 4 tracks: "The Kingsroad", "Game of Thrones", "Jon’s Honor", “Victory Does Not Make Us Conquerors"

House Baratheon’s theme – 3 tracks : "The King's Arrival", "You'll Be Queen One Day", "You Win or You Die"

[Edit:] Honor’s theme - 2 tracks: "Black of Hair", Victory Does Not Make Us Conquerors”

Night‘s Watch theme - 2 tracks: "The Wall", "Jon’s Honor"

Arya’s theme – 2 tracks : "The Pointy End", "Things I Do for Love"

Dothraki’s theme : "To Vaes Dothrak"

White Walkers’ theme : "North of the Wall"

And these have no themes I could recognize : "The Assassin's Dagger", "Small Pack of Wolves"

We can see that in the first season it’s the Starks’ theme that dominates the album with 5 occurrences. Daenerys’ theme is also established very early in the season but doesn’t really shine until the last episode. The main theme can also be heard in a lot of tracks, some time it’s quite subtle so I might have missed some occurrences. The track "Game of Thrones" is used for most of the end credits of S1, in the later season we have new music more often. Maybe because Djawadi was hired 10 weeks before the show airs.

Some themes signification are also not set, like the conspiration will become Littlefinger’s in S3 (fitting since we can hear it when Cat receives the letter from her sister saying that the Lannisters murdered Jon Arryn (lol) or when Cat arrests Tyrion because of LF’s infos), or Arya’s theme is played before Jaime pushes Bran.

RD talks a bit of the earlier seasons here (interview from April 2013) :

THR: Does each character have their own theme?

Djawadi: One of the first things we discussed was: How can we make this score cohesive without trying to capture every character too on the nose, because they overlap so much? We have a Stark theme, but we did not introduce the Lannister theme until the second season with “The Rains of Castamere” song, with lyrics based on the book. Theon [Alfie Allen] had no theme in the first season, but in the second we decided, OK now it’s time he gets his own theme. Now in the third season, we have so many themes established, we can do lighter or darker versions. We have an “Honor” theme and a “Conspiracy” theme when they’re trying to conspire against each other. For the fire lady Melisandre [Carice van Houten] it’s almost like a hybrid of a string instrument with some kind of -- not really a flute. You can’t put your finger on it and say what that sound is.

THR: How do you develop the themes?

Djawadi: I like to fall into the story and just dream about what it is, and it leads me to create music that puts me in the place. The synthesizers don't jump out at you, but they really work well. I literally play each instrument on the keyboard -- the timpani, then I go back to the beginning and play the string line, and then the piano. I layer all these tracks one after the other. There are various synthesizers, you tweak the knobs and modify the sound of it, let them become part of the sound palette I create. At the beginning of each project I like to create a palette of sound for that particular project. And the producers get used to it -- they’ll say, “This should be Theon’s scene, and north of the Wall we should have glassy sound and have the bells come back.” I get to be a big kid, I can make stuff up all day. It’s fun!

THR: Parts of the score seem very minimal. Are you influenced by new music?

Djawadi: Definitely. Daenerys’ theme is very minimal in the beginning, because she plays such an insignificant role. We planted the theme in the first two episodes and it doesn’t even strike you so much that, "Oh, that's her big tune." And then it just grows and grows.

I don’t know what is this honor theme is talking about lol, maybe it’s what will become Arya’s, idk. [Edit:] It’s the theme we heard when Cat leaves Ned in KL + at some more points in S1, in S2 in becomes Brienne’s theme.

Now to finish this first post, 3 of my fav tracks – obviously I love "King of the North" and "Finale" but I think there’s the most famous from S1 so it won’t be these :

"The King's Arrival" : it’s the first big track heard in the show and I love how medieval it sounds

"Small Pack of Wolves" : especially the part that starts at 0:35

"Game of Thrones" : for the rhythm

SPOILERS BITCH

First off, deaths

1:Me

2:Edd Tollett

Okay so let’s discuss what these deaths made me feel.

Eddison Tollett, I will admit, I cried, a lot. I cried because in the previous ep Jon, Sam, and Edd were all talking about how they’re the last of the nights watch and now they’re one more down.

Lyanna Mormont, I cried a fuck ton, this is the only death where I had to pause the episode and leave the room for a little while to calm down before I finished.

Beric, so Beric isn’t in my top twenty fav, but Arya is. I didn’t cry, but I felt sad hearing that his only purpose was to bring Arya back, but if you go further into this, that means the lord of light intended on Arya killing the night king and saving Bran, meaning that at least one god is rooting for them.

Theon Greyjoy, he’s a character I love to love and hate to hate, hes done some bad things, but in the end he made up for it and defended Bran as long as he could, losing his life in the process. 10/10 good character redemption.

Jorah Mormont, idc abt him tbh, he’s just not one of my people, if anything I dislike him a bit. However, seeing Emilia Clarke’s haunting acting of Dany crying over him along with Drogon putting his wing around them was enough to make me emotional.

Melisandre, I mean she’s a cool gal, I like her moxy, but I feel like she’s one of the few characters to die with their purpose fulfilled and to greet death with open arms.

Viserion, Viserion’s death didn’t give us time to mourn him, it was a quick flash and then moving on, but I feel like that left me more emotional than anything. Dany brought dragons back, and in a flash, one was taken away again.

The Night King, okay so as previously discussed, Arya motherfuckin Stark is my favourite girlie ever, so my heart dropped seeing her being held up like that, and I was so scared she was gonna die but then my pride came through when she stabbed him.

The Dothraki, Unsullied, and Northern folk, these deaths weren’t major characters, but they were casualties of war, so I didn’t get too emotional.

Okay now that we’ve discussed deaths, let’s get into my theories

The night king isn’t dead, he’s been around for centuries, he not ded

Arya and Gendry will end up together, already canon but still

Dany might kill Jon now that he’s an established heir

Dany might become a white walker, no real evidence but I have a feeling

So, overall, this ep has been a very emotionally aggressive episode, and I loved every second of this nightmare

So, recently I got an ask in my inbox telling me to stop using a bunch of tags because I’m “an attention whore” which first of all fuck you we don’t slut shame in this home.
