My thoughts on Ted Lasso S3,E1:
In a shocking turn of events, Jamie Tartt is currently the person least in need of therapy.

#but who in their right mind would say that his traumas are on the same level as mine#theyre worlds apart and i didnt mean it like a “ha ha my life is better than yours” but more of a “i shouldnt complain”#which is wrong too ofc you cant compare things like that! a broken thing is broken no matter what broke it#and we both are mentally fucked to the point that we are actually disabled#but we both cope and bond with gallows humor and joke about our horrible traumas#because at some point it stops being a horrible story that you gotta be serious about. and turns into a story so horrible its funny#you know what i mean??#like how would anyone be able to keep a straight face when told that i was beaten and bullied to the tune of peppa pig hfhskjshg#“greta gris nöffnöff” while kicking me hfbskjfhs like making someone oink in tune to the song is hilarious#its horrible but hilarious#its the same with his stories where he had his fucked up family stories that we just laughed about because it was so horrible#but this time i went overboard with my half joke half concern comments#and it turned awkward and i hurt him and now im here venting after weve already made up#im sorry ted i love you youre a great friend and i hope you get therapy soon#we botj are mental wrecks and you desperately need meds hahah#i hope to see where you end up in the future and i hope you get to see me finish engineering school#i hope we stat friends for a long time and keep up with eachother even when far apart and doing our own thing#im gonna be horrible with contact tho i always am lmao#also i hope yours and noahs marriage goes well i love you two youre great#also i hope noah get their fucking mental health cyecked too god damn theyre an autistic trigger wreckage#i cant talk about traumas with anyone else because the worst thing on earth is when someone pities me. or feels sorry for me#stop it! im not weak! im not pathetic like that! dont pity me! its disgusting!#ugh. unfortunately us making fun of eachothers trauma leads to a guilty partypooper feeling when trying to get help#cant really reach out to ted without feeling awkward or guilty or like a killjoy making things worse#i love him but damn. i hate hate hate hate having panic attacks in front of people and even more someone that normally jokes w me#idk

What Your Favorite Band of Brothers character says about you (revamped and based on personal experiences)
Winters- You’re either a pretty level headed person or your life is in complete shambles and you find comfort in characters that know how to handle stress.
Nixon- You love a good self destructive character and more than likely see yourself in them. Also, how is your undiagnosed mental illness treating u lately?
Lipton- You just want to be held and cared for so bad it’s not even funny anymore.
Speirs- You most DEFINITELY read wattpad stories as a kid. The mafia kind. You’re also unnecessarily horny on the internet and probably say he’s “Lana-coded.”
Roe- You love a good tragic and tortured character, I’ll give you that. You also listen to boygenius and love religious imagery.
Babe- I’m gonna take a wild guess and say you’re on some type of lgbt or autism spectrum.
Liebgott- You have a really weird self-confidence complex and read a LOT of enemies to lovers. I’m lowkey scared of you even though you’ve probably never hit anyone in your life.
Webster- You’re an artist at heart and view the world in a way that might set you apart from your peers. You can never and will never tell if that’s a good or a bad thing. Also you call grown men “babygirl.”
Guarnere- You have TERRIBLE taste in men and can never tell the difference between being mean or flirting.
Toye- Ditto ^ but also may I add you probably have a thing for people in uniform.
Buck- You are a very simple person. You like everything to just be kind of normal and calm all of the time. Sometimes you dip your toes in the water, but it’s more of a once a year kind of thing. Your favorite superhero as a kid was Captain America.
Luz- You are just cool. Very Ferris Beuller, Bill and Ted, Matthew Lillard kind of cool. You’re also probably transmasc or into guys to some degree.
Shifty- You’re either one of those “omg smol bean” people or you just love a good ray of sunshine kind of character. Your favorite pony as a kid was probably Fluttershy.
Malarkey- I’m so deeply upset just looking into your eyes dawg you need to take a nap and book a therapy session. Not a single one of you guys is completely and totally stable.
Renee- You so desperately wanted this show to pass the bechdel test and wished more women were included in the production. You’re also into women.
Perconte- You’re either really cool or you’re really annoying. No inbetween.
Bull- You really liked the SNL “Big Boy” skit with SZA
Muck- You want to be the funny friend so bad and you’re still not sure if you’ve earned that title yet. Mad respect though bc I know ur ass has seen supernatural in full. More than once.
Welsh, Penkala, Spina, Talbert, Grant, Martin, Penkala, Hoobler, Skinny- Either you’re lying to be different or you genuinely love a good underrated background character.
Blithe- Mm you’re lying lol
Sobel- Hey, girl! What the fuck!

Roy Kent is prickly. He can’t help it. He also doesn’t want him to behave the way he’s behaving, he’s working on it, but it’s a complicated process learning that he’s worthy of more than breaking his body down to play a game.
He hates the healing process, he’s never been good at being vulnerable and it feels like a personal attack every time he has to be. He resents it. It infuriates him, and he doesn’t want to do it.
But he does want to hold Jamie’s hand and kiss his forehead and make him smile.
And he wants to be able to support Keeley and show up for her how she needs without bending himself unnaturally in the process.
He wants to keep his friendship with Ted and Beard, and god help him Trent.
He wants to be able to stand solid and strong for his team. To care for them and help them grow
To be able to support Colin if he ever chooses to come out officially even as he won’t be the first, not anymore, (Jamie isn’t subtle and it turns out neither’s Roy, but honestly getting outed because he couldn’t resist slipping a hand down Jamie’s pants at a benefit is a little embarrassing)
He wants to just be calm and happy and content without the constant nagging voice in the back of his head that says he’s not doing enough to keep the people in his life close, that he’s a ticking time bomb of needy, clingy, desperation and the only way to avoid people leaving is to keep them at arms length
(Keeley pulled away at his most vulnerable moment)
It’s the hardest thing he’s ever done, learning how to be a person in his middle age, but Roy Kent is nothing if not stubborn and he’ll conquer this as he has everything else.
* Roy Kent going to therapy and actually healing makes me emotional because every time he’s just a little too vulnerable he gets defensive and grouchy and he is me and I am him, and I just adore this perpetually depressed man and I miss him.

I feel like every ship with Ted is a crackship bc this man simply should not be in a relationship (until he’s had extensive therapy at least)
Oh- I mean yeah, for sure. However! I do think that one of the great parts of some of these ships with Ted is his opportunity for growth. Just me personally y’know?
I think that while yes, he is in fact in desperate need of therapy, it’s hard for him to actually get to the point of actually seeking it. I imagine he gets there after a lot of talking things out with his partner, and a lot of getting over his pride. He is very self-aware, he absolutely knows that he is messed up, but he sees his way of dealing with it as reasonable, it’s how he’s learned to pretend he’s content. In reality, he knows he’s not, but- is he going to do anything about it? Hell no. At least that’s his perspective until he enters a relationship that isn’t one-sided or strictly sexual.
I see him learning how to be loved in a way he’s only expressed outwardly. He hadn’t received these kind of feelings since the whole Jenny incident, and it’s scary. But through this he can get over that fear of being left again, of falling for someone who would just leave him at the drop of a hat before he can really get out how he feels. And then he can see that therapy can actually help him. (Now it has been a good two months since I’ve watched Time bastard so this is all entirely based off of my memory and HCs for him).
But yeah, I just like to think about him and that sometimes, ESPECIALLy within the context of Holy Bastard. I don’t see them as a long term thing, but I definitely see it as a relationship that they both grow from. I have a whole note on my phone about it that’s filled with what is essentially the plot of a fic I do not have the skill nor dedication to write.
All that being said, yeah, Ted definitely needs therapy, but I don’t neccessarily think it has to come before a relationship.
Idk, I don’t think I’m very well-spoken but I think I’m getting my meaning across. I adore Ted and think his character has so much terrific potential.

what i assume about you based on your favorite sanders sides ship (don’t take this too seriously this is a joke lol):
prinxiety: enemies to lovers is your favorite thing ever. you ship reylo.
analogical: you want to be taken care of and have your feelings validated for once. your favorite color is either purple or gray.
logicality: you want to see more positive gay representation in media (although i guess this goes for all of them). you love the aesthetic of the serious one + the sunshine one. you make or enjoy moodboards.
dukeceit: you and your s/o / best friend / crush make each other worse <3 in a good and healthy way tho. you are an impulse buyer.
roceit: you DESPERATELY need a hug. i promise you’re someone’s hero. i promise.
moceit: like prinxiety, you also love enemies to lovers. you are a fan of cartoons. you need to learn to regulate your emotions.
intrulogical: you are right and also hot and also you need copious amounts of therapy.
thank you for coming to my ted talk <3

What do you think Caroline thinks of Nathan?
Ah, it's Anon again.
Tsk tsk tsk.
What, you mean Caroline Prescott: Sean Prescott's wife, Nathan's and Kristine's mum, the lady who only got mentioned thrice by OTHER PEOPLE in emails and a letter, the lady whose face and hair colour we don't even know?
HOW SHOULD I KNOW?
Okay, that's all, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk,
Kris
...Hehe, just joking. I'll work on what we have on canon. I have to over-overanalyse things tho.
So as I have said, what we know about Caroline is only mentioned in emails and a letter: Kristine's, Sean's, and Dr Jacobi's.
Kristine's email to Nathan:
"And yes, mother told me that you've been in trouble and father has been on your ass..."
It sounds like Kristine contacts Caroline regularly. Seeing that there is no complaint about Caroline in the rest of the email, I think she still has at least a decent relationship with Caroline. That means, she still has interests in her kids. Thank goodness. Since the rest of the email is about Sean and has no complaint about Caroline, I'm guessing it's Sean who is the "only" problem here.
We don't see the severity of Sean's abuse, but if that can make Kristine, a seemingly great older sister, run away; knowingly leaving an obviously beloved little brother alone in this kind of environment, I think we can imagine it.
Sean's email to Nathan:
"Nate, I know this has been a stressful week and your mother and I are here to talk if need be. Just make an appointment anytime. Your mother wants Doctor Bill to come out after his book tour but for now let's stick to your prescriptions."
I know he's a businessman, but an appointment? To your own kid? Okay, asshole. Does Caroline need to be booked in the appointment too? Is she also in the business? It sounds like Caroline is involved with Nathan's treatment at least. I don't really know what subtext to make out from the first part of the last sentence, if any. But, I guess, she at least can give opinions to Sean, normally. Maybe.
Dr Jacobi's letter to Sean:
"You have ignored my requests for a consultation with you and your wife so I have to assume you are no longer interested in my services. Regardless, I care about Nathan and I believe he needs serious help."
Dr Jacobi only talks to Sean here. He's like the top authority in the family, I get it, but it's like Sean is the only parent available. The doc seems very desperate because he believes it's dangerous to not help Nathan as soon as possible. If it were me, I would try to contact Caroline directly as well. Does he try? Is he able to? Does Caroline listen?
Dr Jacobi is Nathan's previous psychiatrist who "fires" him because of the lack of family cooperation. The doc wants to work on it seriously, he sees problems in Sean's parenting that are largely Nathan's stressor.
Since the doc is denied repetitively and so decided to terminate Nathan's therapy, I assume Sean searches for another psychiatrist who is not that "fussy" with Nathan's treatment. So maybe...this Dr Bill...is not a good psychiatrist. I mean, if he is really based on Dr Phil, that just confirms that he's a bad, unethical one.
Has Caroline ever taken THE INITIATIVE to TALK to Nathan directly? I don't know. Canon gives us nothing. And see this: in Kristine's email, it really sounds like lecturing Nathan was a regular thing she did when she was still at home. An older sibling lecturing a younger sibling is not rare. I did that too to my lil bro, my big bro did that too to us sometimes. But something tells me that the one who tells him to stand up to Sean is only Kristine, never Caroline. Just an intuition.
This is like searching for cookie crumbs on the floor but see this about Victoria talking about Nathan:
"Yes, he takes serious meds but that's not his fault. His family treats him like a total freak, just because he has little meltdowns."
Throughout the game, they establish that Sean is the menacing, terrifying, asshole figure. But Victoria interestingly generalises with "family" which means it can include Kristine too (but I refuse to believe so hehe), but most importantly it can also include Caroline as well. Using Victoria's words, Caroline might treat him like a "freak" because of his mental illness.
Btw, this is very obvious because duh, but what we know about Caroline is filtered from another person's point of view. Delving into her possible mind is hard. Kristine might hear a passive and neutral, "Nathan isn't doing what's expected of him and Sean isn't happy" from Caroline and Kristine with her already anti-Sean mind paraphrased it very strongly and made it sound like Caroline is more opinionated. I think various kinds of characterisation are possible here. But, in general, I can think of two?
The cold mum. Distant. Or at least not openly affectionate.
The "Team Sean Prescott" mum. "Your dad is right, Nathan", "your dad says that for your own good, Nathan", "you need to do as he said, Nathan", "it's just the way he is", "he did that not to hurt you, Nathan", etc.
Okay, she can be both.
Whatever characterisation in the list she has, if she lets Sean be his abusive self and does no intervention, that sounds like a bystander parent to me. Maybe she is a Sean-minded person and that's why she lets it be. Maybe she lets Sean be in charge of Nathan's education because "let me, Caroline, Nathan must learn about the Prescott legacy from me", so she is just a yes woman. Maybe she knows Sean's treatment is wrong, but she's afraid to oppose him for a reason. Dunno. Anything is possible.
Bystander parents confuse the kid, btw. It complicates their feelings on the trauma and the parent, because "I'm angry at my abusive dad but I'm also angry at my mum for never protecting me. But she never treats me like Dad did, am I allowed to get hurt because of her inaction?" The bystander effect hurts the abuse victim too, but I digress since we are on the topic of Caroline's thoughts on Nathan, not his thoughts on her.
TLDR; I think Caroline cares about Nathan and his well-being to some degree, despite the possibility of thinking that his mental illness is a burden on the family. There's no canon information of her communicating with him directly, because, well, canon gives us nothing. From the zero complaints Kristine has of her, she might not treat Nathan like Sean does, but she might enable Sean's treatment of him thus making her a bystander parent.
Well, in the end, this is just a theory, a game theory. Nathan never talks about his mum, so I really don't know what she's like. He is especially hung up on his dad, pushing him to search for validation from a father figure in the form of Jefferson.
Caroline is a blank slate. Any interpretation or effort to fill in the blanks fanfic authors do for her (dead, not biological mum, assumingly in a mental hospital, emotionally unavailable, neglectful, physically and verbally abusive, abused turned abuser, mentally ill, having Nathan as a mirror of herself thus can't face him at all, etc.), the possibility is endless, and I enjoy all I have read.
Okay, that's all from a Nathan-biased person.
Thank you for the ask,
Kris

an incomplete list of everything I loved / everything that really, really worked:
Ted and Nate’s scene. Nate didn’t need to give a big speech or grovel. We didn’t need to see Ted get mad at him. All we needed was Nate to say sorry and of course Ted forgave him. It was as easy as that.
The fact that every player kept a piece of the believe sign was so unexpected and so perfect
ROY BECOMING A DIAMOND DOG I didn’t know how badly I needed that to happen until it did
Nate giving Roy the speech about people being able to change - yes, everything to me.
THE VERY FIRST PLAY NATE CAME UP WITH, LITERALLY ONE INTRODUCED IN LIKE EPISODE 2 OR 3 WON THEM THE MATCH - and the fact that highlights not just Jamie’s personal growth but him and Sam
ISAAC TAKING THE CORNER KICK AND BLASTING THROUGH THE FUCKING NET MY MAN (everyone just passing the ball off to each other and Isaac being like someone please take this from me was fantastic)
Keeley didn’t definitely get back with either Roy or Jamie but we know Roy and Jamie are staying friends AND clearly they’re all three staying friends and it didn’t necessarily mean she doesn’t still have feelings for either of them. I think it’s just not the right time right now but they’re all very much still in each other’s lives.
Beard faking appendicitis to get off a plane.
ROY GOING TO THERAPY PERFECT
Roy was Beard’s best man :)
Roy, Beard, and Nate did end up the coaching dream team I predicted
The Lasso Way becoming The Richmond Way
Trent being a perfect example of every artist showing their work to someone and desperately awaiting feedback.
Every single thing with Rupert was perfect and not at all something I predicted. He made himself look bad in the end, just like he always has. And he ended up the one more obsessed with revenge and winning and it took him down in the end.
I could keep going but I’ll stop there.

also because it was discourse on my twitter feed today I'm unfortunately thinking about That ted lasso finale scene again and I will say a lot more clicks into place for me when I remember the bare bones plot purpose of it was to get Roy to go to therapy (which he was desperately desperately in need of). I don't agree with the writers on much when it comes to season 3, but I do concur that not much was going to do it for that man but realizing he'd hurt two of the people he loves most to the point where he was on the verge of losing the both of them was just about the thing.

I can forgive a lot of things about the Ted Lasso finale (the final season as a whole, honestly), but I cannot forgive the gleeful cruelty with which turns were taken. It reminded me of the desperation to sUbVeRt ExPeCtAcTiOnS that was not exclusive to the Game of Thrones showrunners but definitely popularized by them.
So sure. Allow a toxic relationship to get a happily ever after. Reintroduce a reductive love triangle. Have the female leadTM end up with a guy she met once, who many read as creepy. Reduce the titular character to needing to be near his son and undeserving ex-wife instead of a found family. Don’t just forgive your abuser for yourself, but let them back in your life!
Surely crumbs of the Greyhounds’ growth and Nate’s journey and Roy going to therapy and the downfall of Rupert are enough to keep everyone happy?
To quote the theme song:
yeah, might be all that you get
Yeah, I guess this might well be it
But did y’all actually try?
What were the reshoots and rewrites and delays for, in the end?

Hi!! I was wondering if I could get a Ted Lasso ship (for the guys!)?? I’m a very social person, although sometimes it’s hard to get me to open up. I love a good conversation, also I’m studying a degree in law and philosophy, so I always like talking about issues from a philosophical perspective! I also love a good book, especially classics!
I really enjoy going on walks, especially on sunny days, and I adore the beach and the sea, my perfect day would definitely be spent at the beach, especially if I get to bring my dog along. I’m always up to something and working, either in an event at uni or studying or going to museums or the movies, I tend to struggle with the concept of taking just time to rest and just be, even if I desperately need a break.
I’ve been described as very soft-spoken and I’m always getting asked to “speak up” in class, which shows I tend to have a more soft, mellow personality despite my never-ending plans and events, so I tend to be very gentle with everything!
Thank you so much in advance 🩷
I ship you with Sam Obisanya!
Sam, naturally, has a lot of friends, so I think he’d definitely love someone as social as you who’d be down to go anywhere with him and his band of idiots.
At the same time, Sam is as into philosophy as you are and will gladly have nights in talking deeply over a good wine and cheese board.
Will walk for miles with you and always brings the absolute best picnic. Finger sandwiches, chocolate coated strawberries, homemade lemonade, only the best for you.
Even though Sam loves keeping busy with you, he cares deeply and is first to drag you to the sofa kicking and screaming when you seem like you need a break. Will hold you hostage with cuddles and good food for days.
Absolutely adores and how soft and gentle you are. I could definitely see you two being the mom friends for Richmond. What is the kit room for if not therapy sessions with friends?

Ted and the Drinking Bird
Tumblr media
So I’m probably far from the first person to notice this or point it out but I want to talk for a minute about Ted’s initial 3 attempts at therapy in S2E7 “Headspace”. Specifically how the “Drinking Bird” toy on the desk is an indicator of Ted’s level of vulnerability/authenticity in each given moment.
I did a very minimal amount of research on this you beforehand so please feel free to correct me if anything I say is wrong. But essentially these toy birds, which have been around for a long time, use some sort of physics principles to keep the bird in motion once you hit it. Sometimes one touch can lead to the bird “nodding” or “drinking” for a very long time if you don’t intervene to make it stop. How long the bird continues for can depend on how hard it was initially pushed.
First Session
The first time we see Ted in Sharon’s office for an appointment is directly following his panic attack during the Tottenham game in S2E6 “The Signal”. He goes into that office with his full guard up. Ted’s biggest defense mechanism is his constant optimism. He smiles, makes jokes, talks endlessly until someone has to stop him. Sharon said upon first meeting him that it was “very disarming” but it noticeably did not disarm her. Ted isn’t used to people seeing underneath the mask. So after his routine on the couch when he finally sits down across from Sharon, he tries desperately to keep the mask on. This is when he first touches the bird and makes it start to nod.
When the bird is nodding, Ted’s mask of optimism is on. Ted even says “he’s an agreeable fellow” regarding the bird. Feeling familiar, Ted?
After a bit more joking around Ted seems to realize that Sharon will not be deterred. He has a moment of quiet where the smile slips away. He looks at the bird as it nods yes over and over, but Ted starts to shake his head no. No, he can’t seem to keep the mask up. But no, he also isn’t willing to purposely take it off. As his head stops shaking, so does the bird. When Sharon asks him directly about his panic attack, he says “I don’t wanna do this” and leaves abruptly. This was his flight response kicking in to escape from a scary situation. The moment he felt the mask slip (and the bird stopped with it) he had to flee.
Second Session
In the second session Ted comes in with a slightly different demeanor. Explains his reappearance by saying “well I don’t quit things”. He sits down without much small talk or stalling like he did the first time. Touches the bird and gets it to begin nodding right away. He starts off polite still, asking how she’s doing, saying he’s doing “swell, as well as fine and dandy”. But there’s an edge to it. The mask is there but it’s slipping. As the session continues it heats up quickly - Sharon notices Ted’s obvious aversion to therapy and asks him about it. The bird must not have been tapped as hard this time (the mask wasn’t on as firmly as it was for the first session) because it’s already beginning to slow down.
Each time the camera cuts to Ted we see the head of the bird still in frame, slowing down more and more. The moment the bird stops moving completely is when Ted says “I think it’s bullshit”. That is the moment the mask slips off. Ted hides his emotions - anger included - because they make him vulnerable. He needs his mask of optimism to keep himself safe. As the mask finally falls, the bird stops moving. Ted may be angry, but this anger is authentic. It’s cathartic. It offends Sharon, naturally, but it needed to happen. Ted storms out again, this time using both his fight and his flight response in the same session. The frame ends with Sharon looking at the bird toy as it sits completely still on her desk.
Third Session
This session begins a bit differently - when Ted comes back again, Sharon knows it is him without looking up. And the bird is already nodding. Maybe she started the nodding herself because she knew he’d be back. Even though she hadn’t spoken to her own therapist about it yet (this happens the following episode) maybe she is realizing that she needs to show some vulnerability to Ted too. Needs to give him the chance to take the mask off himself.
Before she even has a chance to begin, Ted sits down and stops the bird on his own. Physically touches the base of the toy with his hand and makes it still. Ted is choosing to take the mask off this time. Choosing to put aside his constant optimism and allow himself to be vulnerable. Sharon takes the lead and Ted quickly apologizes for his behavior before admitting he might be scared of the truth. During this session we still see Ted smile, still hear the occasional joke (Ted throwing the tissues, for example), but you can see how genuine he’s being on his face. Not to say that his usual smile/friendliness isn’t genuine, but it provides him with a layer of protection that he’s choosing to put down. He’s putting his trust in Sharon to keep the space safe while the mask is off.
The third therapy session ends with both Ted and Sharon in frame, unlike the last two that ended with Sharon looking at Ted’s empty chair. They are working together now. United. Trusting each other. Believing in each other. And the bird remains still.

Gosh the more I hear about DD the more I’m like I’m so glad I’m still playing Apollo Justice. Uhhhhh oh! Top five or three if your personal NRMT Headcanons and maybe one or two of your HCs for Phoenix and Miles by themselves? I saw a post earlier about like hard and soft HCs, hard being stuff you just need to have about the character for them to make sense to you and soft is less rude or die but something you still enjoy.
I guess one for me is the Bi Phoenix / realizing he’s also attracted to men. It’s not a deal breaker really but if a fic went out of its way to say he was only gay I might squint a little like mmmmm not a fan but you do you
And then a soft one is him having heterochromia. I can flow with his big brown puppy dog eyes but despite recent set him having two blue eyes isn’t Bad. But it’s one of those things I never noticed until someone said it and I saw they changed Maya to have blue eyes too and THAT feels wrong haha (no hate to blue eyed Maya-truthers)
yeah, dont get me wrong, theres still some REALLY GOOD NRMT moments in DD (like if u present phoenix's badge to miles, for instance) but that combined with that one quote i mentioned earlier just. does not make sense to me.
anyways! hmmmm interesting. i guess for NRMT, one HC is like, i dont like when miles is REALLY mean, esp during sex???? thats probably just a me preference but idk, like. a lil degradation is fine but they both should be having fun, yknow?? and sometimes i see miles depicted like he doesnt really care or that phoenix has to fight for his attention during sex, and while kink stuff like that is totally fine, i just don't personally see it for them in particular. these two are so obsessed with each other that it makes other people sick. one hard HC would be that Miles is super supportive of phoenix during the 7yg. they def had some ups and downs during that time, but miles was always there for him. ALSO a side hc, i HATE when people think miles would be disgusted by how phoenix looks?????? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you kidding?? miles wants to touch his stubble SO BADLY and he thinks phoenix looks hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! end ted talk last hc would be that, even if he says otherwise, miles loooooooooooooooooooooooooooves phoenix's voice and how much he talks. loves it. cannot get enough of it. one time they get into a fight and phoenix doesnt talk to him for like. idk, an hour or two tops and hes just like 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺internally. and god dont get me started about sex!!!!! he esp loves phoenix's voice and talkativeness during sex two headcanons for Miles Edgeworth: that he's nuerodivergent in some way, i guess. im partial to him being autistic, but its all great tbh. and another headcanon for him would be that he actually has the biggest sweet tooth and won't admit it Two headcanons for phoenix: He has BPD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and desperately needs to go to therapy for his issues my god. (i have BPD, been in therapy for a long time, im a whole lot better than what i used to be jsdnsjkd) OH and he also has adhd. hes just like me fr thank you so much for the ask!!! im sorry that i rambled jsaknsdk

Doesn't this sound like an unhealthy coping mechanism? TR never really got the grip of coping healthily, but this isn't the earliest example, which I'll touch on soon.
Tumblr media
It's beyond reasonable - and in fact correct - to assume he never entirely, fully got over Alice Lee. He never mentioned her again. Not on record, at least, and certainly not once in his autobiography. He mentioned his mother a handful of times at most. And this is where I say this part makes me feel nauseous because of how damn sad it is.
TR, as I said, never came to terms with Alice's death, and he never would. Over decades maybe he could handle a brief sorrowful thought of her, maybe a second. But I don't think anybody would be wrong in assuming he still could never truly talk of her. It sounds sad, but it's true. He never handled grief well.
I do think this is one of the periods of TR's life that you hear of but, never seeing it mentioned again, really enforces that he wanted her gone. He couldn't stand the thought of her. Which... do. Do you see the therapy that he desperately needed?
WELL if you thought this was it then you were wrong!!
His father died when he was nineteen. TR idolized his father beyond all else. He had a massive portrait of the man in his office and he always wondered what his father would do in times of strength during his presidency.
Tumblr media
And TR admitting fear is a very, very rare thing, because you don't. Actually see it often. He'd be more likely to admit to a crime.
So for his father to die, and not being able to see him before (TR couldn't arrive in time), really, really left its mark on him. This was also around the time he had a spat with his then-close-friend, future-second-wife Edith in a small summer house. His father's death left him grieving and the argument left him. Well. Seething, for lack of a better word.
TR was actually able to acknowledge his father. That was the only difference.
But he also needed extreme help by the time Valentine's Day 1884 rolled around, and I am not alone in that thought.
I'd also like to mention that the argument I referenced above is never going to be explored beyond what is known: They argued, it was intense, and it ended any romantic prospects between them for years. Other than that? We have abso-fucking-lutely nothing. Nothing to go off of. Neither ever told anyone what they argued about. All Edith said was that Theodore 'wasn't very nice', and TR just said they both had tempers. Other than that once again? Nothing.
He also experiences even more grief later but we'll touch on that later.
TR almost lost Edith, as well, during 1898 when the Spanish-American war was ramping up to its climax of official war.
Tumblr media
It did not get better. As you'll see, this was also when Ted was put under suffering, aswell.
Tumblr media
*Cut because the rest is in Ted's section*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though it ended well, TR was likely getting flashbacks (or intense reminders) of what happened with Alice Lee just 14 years ago. And in those 14 years I'm very sure he wasn't fully done suppressing the memory. Being put under such strain twice doesn't do well on a person, nor their mental stability.
And now I'd like to mention: TR possibly having bipolar disorder.
Listen I'm not going to go in detail because I have before (probably, if not just send an ask that tumblr hopefully wont eat), but basically, traumatic experiences when he was so young, multiple injuries, almost dying countless times when he was young as he had asthma, and never truly coping, and honestly just naturally, he could have had Bipolar Disorder.
I find this theory interesting and it's very believable. He could be all over the place, smiling and ecstatic, swinging his limbs around, and then the next, quiet, gloomy. Suppressed. He never calmed down enough unless it was serious. Now, it could've just been his natural personality and behavior. But he was reckless, bold, daring, a risk-taker, and didn't ever really care about dying as much as he should have.
TR ignored his doctor basically telling him "DO NOT DO EXTREME SHIT. IT WILL HURT YOUR HEART. BADLY." and proceeded to be the goddamn president. Don't even mention climbing mountains and tough sports and putting himself under immense strain.
Hell I'd say it's worthy of a book (albeit short or not who knows), but there isn't one so far (as I know of) that focuses on that theory and goes in depth.
(But I do consider it a mild headcanon of mine for NATM purposes because I genuinely think it's something to consider, and hey, if you get memories, why wouldn't that pass over? Or I just like angst idk skkdnfgk)
Edith also suffered two miscarriages during the White House years, so the trauma of losing two unborn children must've hit pretty hard too.
i could go on even more about this sad meow meow bastard but lets move on. (Oh, the trauma I mentioned we'll touch on later, we will touch on near the end in Quentin's section.)
2. Ted // aka the one who was sort of forced to be the best
(also this mf was IMPOSSIBLE to search for. 'Ted' brought up words w/ -ted at the end and it took me so damn long to filter those results out)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one below is in the White House. The two above are from 1898.
Tumblr media
(the proudness is mildly concerning)
The 'nervous exhaustion' and migraines Ted ended up getting were because he was being pushed so hard at such a young age. I tried to find the book that had it (with no luck) but his mother admits that TR pushed Ted far more than the other children. Whether it was because Ted was his eldest son or his first or his namesake or all of the above I don't know, but after that pledge, TR doesn't seem as hard on Ted again in the rest of the Trilogy this lies in.
I also tried to find this next part with once again no luck. However I'll explain the best I can:
When Ted was in college, he got sick with a very violent case of pneumonia, to the point where he was put to bedrest. TR may've had a hard attitude to sickness but he came down to be by his son's bedside and the concern must have been intense. Ted's mother also came down and eventually Alice did too when she was allowed (they actually considered each other like siblings, probably some of the closest between the six with only a 3/2 year age difference). Ted did get better, but it was still worrying in the moment.
I can't find the copy (when I can I'll probably edit this post), but in another book, during WWI, Eleanor (Ted's wife, not FDR's, it's. It's confusing I know) confided in TR that Ted worried if his father was proud of him. TR was particularly surprised, but he told Eleanor that yes, of course he was proud of Ted. He called the war he fought in (Span-Am War) a bow and arrow affair compared to what Ted was fighting in -- a war with bombs and motherfucking aerophysics.
So in Ted you have the 'Heir who's really stressed' part of being a Victorian kid of someone who may or may not need lots of therapy and already have daddy issues (because he did. and i am right.)
OH!! FDR and Ted also had this weird rivalry and Ted basically disowned his ass and called him a maverick. Republican tings ykwim- FDR kept Ted's war moves from newspapers to stunt his cousin's political career (Which is a dick move), but even in the end, FDR presented the Medal of Honor to Ted's widow and admitted that TR would've been the proudest of Ted.
-
3. - Kermit: really sad guy
Okay Ted was fucking impossible to search for but Kermit is not thankfully
Kermit doesn't seem to be as ... optimistic or loud as the other kids, as you can tell.
Tumblr media
*in reference to Harvard, where all four of the boys attended. FDR was also slighted for like the rest of his life bc he wasn't allowed in a club that Ted and Kermit got into lmao i just find that funny*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kermit was also 'easy to bruise' and 'adored' by his mother but he was still... uh. Well. In short terms, traumatized as fuck and had PTSD that goes beyond any realm I've ever fucking seen.
(I WILL be writing fic for this)
I guess you could say it's sort of depressingly similar to TR and his own brother, Elliott, who also died an alcoholic and with multiple attempts of su!c!de. Kermit is the younger brother, Ted is the older. TR was the older, Elliott was the younger. Ykwim?
Basically if Kermit the Frog is memey and funny then this Not-Frog-Man is tragically the opposite and he also. Really. Really needed therapy isn't that a running theme at this point though-
-
4. Archie - mischievous. that's it
-
Not much I can find on Archie in an angsty way, which I think is actually good for my heart because the Edmund Morris TR Trilogy did not do wonders for my mental stability
The most prevalent thing I can find is this:
Tumblr media
Archie--born in 1894--would be 15, so a 15 year old struggling for dear life and terrifying the shit out of his family. Doesn't sound good huh?
But!! Besides that Archie was the only American soldier to be disabled in BOTH World Wars (The three remaining sons (Quentin died in WWI as we know this) all fought in WWII. Fighting spirits indeed) and because of the SAME injury in the SAME leg. He was quieter but still mischievous and energetic, and he got along best w/ Quentin and they rarely quarreled. I will admit, I don't see much about Archie. Quentin obviously is well-spread around, Ted is aswell, Kermit partially, Alice fucking entirely. Ethel and Archie though, I dont see much of.
ALSO!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*these two paragraphs follow each other, they're just on separate pages. the first paragraph follows into the next, so you can read it normally without missing anything.*
I forgot that Archie basically got really, really unhealthy during the War. His arm was worryingly limp and his leg was practically fucked. Not only that but he lost his closest brother in the war, so you can imagine how he felt.
-
5. Quentin - FAVORITE CHILD there i said it
-
okay. you want angst? like, a lot? this one. this boy is your ticket to sad depressive trains of thought.
Quentin was also the most like his father and very much a risk taker, so if he lived long enough, he very well could have had a very successful political career (or in whatever he chose to go into.).
However, Quentin's death was a lasting pain for TR (who died less than a year later) and it's said that Quentin's death not only hastened the then-late-50's year old man, but that TR died of heartbreak over his youngest's death. More angst after the pictures teehee
Tumblr media
'He' is TR. He could be vaguely cryptic in matters of worry and family. Remember this
Tumblr media
He paces when his brain is going a million miles an hour. I actually forgot this small detail but I'll have to use it sometime tbh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this part just makes me sad even though its almost been a year since i reread it like 20 times (more on that in a second.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The silent grieving and absolute devastation seems far more powerful.
Now, getting specific:
Tumblr media
Yes, it was said, as I may've already mentioned, that the boy in TR died when Quentin was devastatingly taken out on July 14th in the summer of 1918. He'd already suffered losing his father (his idol. this is where his own daddy issues come from) and losing his first wife AND mother (who he adored, too) in less than 12 hours. so now, to lose his youngest son, his boy, his child? Oh dear.
So combine the fact TR already needed lots of therapy and this new, heartbreaking death, and you've got one HELL of an angst supply.
It's worth remembering TR really just said 'fuck it. beat the memory until it's too dead to throb' and thought of it as a coping method.
... his 'method' is what we'd now call unhealthy. He thought it was so fucking fine that he even recommended it to a friend (or his sister? I forget tbh) who was just recently widowed. He was not taught healthy coping/healing methods and it showed. Strongly.
TR also felt tremendous guilt for his sons getting hurt (and one dying) in WWI. He'd always glorified war to himself and his kids and he'd instilled in them that a man is only a man once he's fought in battle. Well, no, that's not true. But in the Oyster Bay line of Roosevelts, you either fought in battle when you got the chance or you were a coward for denying it. Hell, take this quote from before Ted was even born:
Tumblr media
And that is JUST on college games. What about war?
Of course, even if he didn't push his sons into WWI, they were bound to go in eventually. His sons all shared his glory-seeking and they would put themselves in harm's way just to get their father's attention sometimes, as I mentioned with Ted truly wondering if--even after fighting in a damn war, getting gassed, and shot, and nearly blinded, AND suffering almost a mental breakdown before he was even a teen--his father was proud of him.
So not only was Quentin's death enough guilt, his sons all got hurt in a war he not only pushed for in general, but he pushed for them to enter as soon as they could. Afterall, if he couldn't fight in the war at 58 with horrible health, then his younger and healthier sons could.
All in all they ALL needed therapy and there is a resounding amount of angst all around the entire family circle. If you read this I am very much sorry.
(I can also probably get the PDFs I used to search for these. I had the physical copies but those were library copies so uh. Not anymore. I can't find the other two books either so some parts WOULD have been pictures instead of text descriptions, but oh well.)
P.S i swear im not insane

awww, TeamFreeWill2pointO (you know that bronly asshole in a mask that got busted lying about all his M&Gs who has been conning fans to fill his closet with scripts they pay for, for years) thinks he knows more about Nexstar than Nexstar, because he's a dumbfuck and doesn't realize Pedowitz was still here doing his shit when everything got renewed, and the announcement is about Miller.
Sorry for your loss. Enjoy cancellation.
Funny you stopped trying to spin demo real quick though and are showing Walker appropriately in demo context. you know what the fuck else Pedowitz renewed then? Nancy Drew and Stargirl You know what just died to Miller
Tumblr media
Learn to track events, you incompetent slob. PEDOWITZ ISNT THERE TO SAVE YOU LIKE HE WAS IN SPRING
what fucking direction do you think they threw him out over, you utter dumbfuck. blame stargirl PURELY on Arrowverse ending (A DECISION MADE DUE TO DECLINING RETURN IN RATINGS) if you want, but jesus FUCK, what's your excuse for Nancy Drew?
Your games are over no matter how much you talk and panic.
Let me help your IDIOT ASS OUT. The REASON CW WENT UNDER IS BECAUSE OF ITS SECONDARY MARKET METHOD AND NOT CARING ABOUT 18-49. NEXSTAR NEEDS 18-49 TO MAKE MONEY. PEDOWITZ TRIED HIS SHIT AND GOT STUBBORN AND GOT THROWN OUT.
Under what pretext beyond "I can't fucking follow events and the idea makes me piss my pants because I actually realize our show and ratings are garbage when I stop fluffing for my audience" do you propose "I don't think that's true" is a valid fucking response, dipshit.
Even KUNG FU has a better chance than you because it runs the same numbers in 9P, which should be running lower numbers, but Walker's just that much garbage. tv isn't run by unicorn farts no matter what shows anyone says they like dude. It's money. So put your fucking big boy pants on and start actually helping your show's ratings or don't bitch when it dies.
2po has now hit the point of desperate wailing where his opinions mean more than network execs, and Nexstar ISN'T opting into the industry standard, for... REASONS? Because 2po doesn't like it. That's his reasons. Because he's scared. That and his inability to follow timelines of events.
god does this dumbfuck even understand what 18-49 is for. does this dumbfuck get why this station sold. does this dumbfuck think ratings 18-49 only exist as a random competition for one demographic for fun. why the fuck does he think pedowitz got thrown out.
What in the blue blazing fuck does this dumbass think is happening.
dumb fuck sitting here going "well an exec likes a show!" oh fucking kay? Do you think businessmen renew shows they lose money on even if they like it? That's your best fucking desperate ass response? They're just gonna renew your shitty failing show out of the goodness of their hearts?
ENJOY. CANCELLATION. ASSHOLE.
YEAH. YOU'RE SCARED. GOOD. IT'S TIME TO PUT YOUR BIG PEOPLE PANTS ON AND STOP PRETENDING YOU CAN MANIPULATE DATA UNTIL YOU PASS OUT. IT'S HAPPENING DUDE. THE EXECS HAVE SAID IT, ARTICLES FINALLY CAUGHT UP AND SAID IT, NOW YOU'RE PISSING YOUR PANTS WONDERING HOW I KNEW IT FIRST AND JUST FLAILING AROUND DENYING PUBLIC REALITY JESUS FUCK.
GET THERAPY FOR YOUR ATTENTION SEEKING BEHAVIORS AND THE NARCISSISM THAT JET FUELS YOUR HABIT OF THINKING YOU CAN TALK OVER REALITY.
sorry buddy, I know it terrifies you that you might have to accept I have an inside line inside the new CW from whence I get first news, scoops, and scripts. Or that maybe, just maybe you should have listened to my years of history closer, to know the full drive behind the boycott beyond deancas that forced the network sale, or why I knew how to do it. I know it blows your entire conman grift out of the water. I know it's going to blow up every narrative you've ever lied or bluffed through. But it's time to stop lying, dude.
Ted's boys are in the house.
Sadly you're not media history literate enough to know what that even fucking means.
I regret to inform you, The BlueGreen Call is coming from Inside The Network
boy gee wizz that might leave you some other interesting questions on possibilities that to simple, pea brained fans like yourself, seemed impossible. something something... someone relayed something somewhere and it's on tv? idk. weird. man wouldn't that suck for you a lot if that was as true as everything else I've said, from pilot being real to the moral thematics and direction of the show to the 18-49 to--
but 2po isn't gonna ask how I knew not just about John and Mary and Dean before the Deadline leak, but the entire shape of said show he denied the whole time from learning from parents, letting go, moving on, the confession being structurally built in, about the final chance to say i love you. Things they hadn't even had a chance to write down yet, just discuss, but that were the entire point and reason for making it, and 2po squealed like a stuck pig in denial. He's just not gonna ask those questions, because he doesn't want those answers.
Yeah, you heard that right. Addressing the confession was on the List Of Reasons To Make This Fucking Thing. That's why it's built into the bones of every episode, you buffoon. You feel that yet? That's reality coming in to pull you down.
brace yourself. A storm is coming.
Well, kid... what you gonna do now?
youtube
You can't stop it.
it's too late.
while you were busy conning people into buying you scripts, people were actually working on shit that mattered. Whether you want to accept they had any part in it or not, that's fine, because it's not about the crown, it's about giving it back to the people now.
You aren't those people.
But believe who did it or not, up to you, it's still happening.
While you played silly clout games, CW got folded by activists in a coordinated boycott you screamed about and tried to make about jared. While you played silly clout games, it got sold to a syndicate demanding ratings. While you played silly clout games, your show fizzled in those ratings. While you played silly clout games, Jensen built an empire with help from more people than you can understand. While you played silly clout games, fans put heads together on pitches. While you played silly clout games, Nexstar cleared out CW. While you played silly clout games, TBS silently returned under the CW brand. While you played silly clout games, Jensen launched Destiel the Series and you've been screaming in denial about the contents since it first announced, and dodged reacting every time it's been a boot to your face. While you were playing silly clout games, the entire corporate reporting structure both network and WB was forced into a change that gave Jensen authority.
Hope those silly clout games and scripts were worth it. Maybe you can compile all of those scripts into a little shrine to heteronormativity you want to save in the old series, cuz sorry, it's dead in this one.
Some day, you lot will learn to think further ahead than your own impulsive gratification of shitting opinions into the internet and hoping someone agrees with you. But we sure are glad you guys are so oblivious, this would have been a lot harder to do if you knew to fight it the whole time or had any capacity of intelligence or coordination.
people deadass spent two years helping jensen trailblaze this path and you think crying on tumblr and twisting M&Gs you already proved yourself a liar on is gonna stop it. yeah sorry guys jensen consciously betrayed the straighties or whatever, sucks to be you, he's one of us now.
if you wanna say you're just here to spread misinformation and discontent, by all means buddy, cuz there's no way you're still this fucking stupid.
Robbie wasn't lying. This is revenge. And Jensen hired him for revenge. And people gave Jensen ideas for revenge.
Enjoy mon ami
youtube
greetings from the syndicate
Tumblr media
you could say we exist in a bit of a Gray area.
but sure buddy. cling to your incompletely reported M&Gs from antis that got busted screaming about the content you said didn't exist. That'll definitely save you. Keep spinning interpretations of their fractal reporting, that's definitely going to give you a clear view of what's happening. It's been SOOOOO reliable for you so far, right?
oh what, you've been wrong about literally everything so far? neat. Wonder how that happens!! oh I've been right about everything since before you ever KNEW there was an anything to be right about? I knew the entire shape of this show before Deadline ever said a goddamn word? WEIRD HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN MAN????
RUB THOSE PERKY LITTLE BRAINCELLS OF YOURS TOGETHER.
or just seek comfort in your lies until your entire digital life combusts around you.
