Damn, I feel like I never really registered this until right now, but the reason why Mike couldn't tell what Will truly meant in the van scene, the reason why Mike didn't see the veil of El's name, the reason why Mike stared so blankly and had so little left to say once Will was done talking, the reason why Mike could not for the life of him clock that it was Will's own feelings in the van scene?? is because Will doesn't lie. Even further yet, Will doesn't lie to Mike. Not once in the entire show has Will hidden a thing from Mike or made any excuses or plainly lied to Mike. Never, ever, ever, unless there's a moment I can't remember right now, never has there been a moment when Will lied to Mike.

Season 1. "The roll. It was a seven." Season 2. "It's about d'artagnan." Season 3. Will has always been expressive around Mike, enough to bring up feeble - "she said she dumped your ass, that doesn't sound like a break!" - and substantial - "I guess I did. I really did." - arguments with him.

So yeah, the van scene is heartbreaking. Yeah, it hurts. Yeah, it sucks that Mike couldn't see the truth.

But it was proof that Mike trusts in Will that much. It showed me that Mike would take Will's words in a heartbeat, even after six months apart and never having tapped into that trust for so long. In the span of 4 episodes post-reconciliation from blaming each other and around that many canonical days or even potentially less days than that! Mike completely and utterly trusted Will with his every word. No question. No question but a speechless and heartwarmed and trusting, "yeah?"

So I don't know, maybe I'm just going crazy, but I think that Mike's idiocy in the van scene is actually a lot more endearing than meets the eye.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
