it's entirely possible juliette knew this sooner but christina just confirmed she (and implied juliette as well) did not know about nat dying until midway through episode 8. maybe juliette wanted off the show and didn't know how it would go down exactly or maybe christina is wrong to include her in that but i just think it's another reason why we need to shelve the "juliete OBVIOUSLY did not want to be on the show anymore so nat's death was OBVIOUSLY her choice which means we can't discuss the writing choices ever again" arguments until we actually get concrete evidence of that being the case since. seeing juliette be unhappy during interviews does not automatically mean she kicked herself off the show.

There's a guy in one of my art classes who was going off the other day about how he thinks the owl house is animated poorly. Specifically, he thinks the scenes where characters are just talking don't have enough movement in them. We are in the same year of the same major program (the same ANIMATION major mind you) and we're probably going to be seeing each other a lot over the next several years. I'm trying so fucking hard to be nice and remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but this guy has already used one of his three strikes with me.
#the owl house is a story about interactions bwtween characters and it tells that story mainly through dialogue#the most impotant part of the immersion there is the solid voice acting paired with the characters' body language and facial expressions#it makes sens that the talking scenes dont have much movement because how much can you honestly say that you move while talking#the magic fight scenes are where all the motion is and he admits that those are well animated#and i tried engaging him in good faith by bringing up the counterpoint that Disney has given TOH the short end of the stick#but i can tell that he hasnt actually been following the story and hes just writing it off as a bad show#which would be fine but he has some pretty bad takes about 'bad shows' as well#namely that being underfunded and not given much time doesnt excuse a bad end product#and yeah knowing the backstory behind some of the production choices doesnt make them any less 'bad'#but he frames what he doesnt like as though its morally inferior to what he does#and once something is 'bad' it cant be made better#this is the stupidest post ive ever made because this basically equates to me having an imaginary battle with another autistic person#like some kind of autism proxy war or something except the other person doesnt even know its happening and it all exists in my head#but also this guy is very loud#i didnt want to hear his opinions on the matter but despite sitting on the other side of the room i could still very clearly hear them#beginning my karkat arc or whatever where i feel personally attacked when people dont like the media i like#it could be worse tho#at least this isnt Twitter#ask to rb

Writing 101: The Scene
Any given scene has three variables that need to be adressed, which are Space, Characters and Time. If you find yourself writing something that feels flat or disconnected, look at these three variables and see if you are missing anything.
Characters, Space, Time.
The three pillars of all writing (and by this I mean: The three incredibly basic, broken down, handyman pillars of writing) can be applied and found in every scene that has every been written. You knew that. But lets look at what they can do for you.
Characters: Who are we even here for?
This one is the one you'll probably find the most tips online for. In essence, every character needs to have the following things:
A goal to move towards
A motivation to make them move
An obstacle to overcome in that journey
A flaw that makes the journey spicier
Those are all pretty standard. In terms of "The Scene", here are some additional things to keep in mind:
With whom do they have relationships with?
Which kind?
How is that expressed?
Whats the problem in the relationship (everyone has them. Even if they are routinely overcome, thats still a problem)?
Characters dont exist in a vaccum so dont view them as singular entities.
Having consistent, well defined characters that stand out will help you easily conquer the hearts of your readers. And having those people have defining relationships that reveal new traits about them is super helpful.
The way people interact with one another shows a lot about the characters.
Space: Where we are, where we were, where we will be
Space is experienced by occupying it, by passing through. Space is always relative to the other spaces next to, beyond and behind.
If this makes you go "So what?", you're not alone. We dont tend to think of space much. We dont always tend to think of space as relative either. But you should always be able to answer these three questions. Ive added some additional questions to make it easier to understand and know where to start.
Where are we? What relevance does this place have? Has it changed? Will it change? Who lives here and how? What does it feel like to pass through? Will everyone view it the same? Is this an emotionally charged place? An empty place? How large is the space?
Where were we? How does it contrast with previous places? And if there is contrast, how do we show that?
Where will we be? What happens when we leave the space? Can we return?
Time: Narrative Time and the beauty of writing
This is probably the easiest to understand: All stories happen in a timespan. Some of them are slow, some fast.
There are several ways of writing narrative time:
Actual Time: The characters process the things that are happening at roughly the same speed as we do. This is like the movie equivalent of a close up. Personal. Emotions and reactions flow as they would. It feels natural and its easy to follow along.
Quick or Condensed Time: The narrative time is passing much quicker than the perceived readers time. This is used for journeys, overviews, long sections that are summarised or poetically vexed about. Condensing several years into a few pages is less personal, but it can give you a relative sense of progress and allows you to put things into perspective. Its also - as the name says - fast.
Slow or Stretched Time: The narrative time is passing much slower than the perceived readers time. Minute details are extended, emotions are rested on longer, events play out almost like in slow motion. This is great for climaxes and impactful scenes, as often times what happens in seconds has much more of an impact of the people. You cant get more personal than this. Details shine easily, its slow and sometimes painful to consume because you cant look away.
There are also timeskips, flashbacks and whatnot. You can even be in the same time but far away from one another (Oh look, its space again).
Point is, time is relative and the way you express something in said time is important. Be aware of how time moves and how you want time to move.
Transition
Alright, I hope this helped you understand some of the core basics. This isnt a vast overview, more of a collection to help you understand the rough strokes. Ask any questions you have and dont forget to drink your water. Bye!

Warnings: abusing, violence, swearing, usual hnl fights, angst to fluff ig
Part2
Tumblr media
It was a warm spring day.The weather was starting to get pretty warm and flowers were starting to appear on the trees.Tsuji and Shibaman were drinking milkshakes at the cafe they always go to after school for something to eat and a cold drink.
Actually, only drinking one was Shibaman while Tsuji distractedly playing with the straw in his glass..
Shibaman watched him for a while. He actually knew quite well what he was thinking, but still asked in hopes of getting a different answer.
"Are you going to drink it or wait until all the ice melts?"
Tsuji looked at his friend and then at his glass in surprise. He shook his head and took a long sip of his drink.
"Sorry, I'm a little confused."
Shiba slowly nodded and said, "Are you thinking of Y/n?"
Tsuji sighed deeply and smiled. He nodded and spoke while looking at his drink.
"I haven't seen her much since she had a boyfriend.I don't even know how she is.We're not on bad terms, but I think I miss her."
Shibaman nodded slowly. He had known Tsuji for many years.Tsuji had known Y/n for many years too.And he had a crush on her since middle school.
Only Shibaman knew that.Todoroki, on the other hand, did not show that he knew, although he was aware of everything.
Tsuji's friendship with y/n was different than the one with Shiba.Y/n was a pretty sweet girl. She was nice but not arrogant. She was a quiet but fun person. She cared deeply for her loved ones and was terrified of hurting them. That's why Tsuji would hide from her when he has scars after fights.
Besides his crazy friendship with Shibaman, he had a calmer and more peaceful one with Y/n.
"Why did not you tell ?"
Tsuji looked at him in surprise when Shiba asked.
"You've liked her for years.I can even say you're in love with her. But you never showed it to her. Why? Don't you think she deserves to know?"
Tsuji turned his gaze back to his drink and smiled.
"Isn't it too late now?"
Shiba asked again, keeping his tone of voice.
"I told you many times before she had a boyfriend.Y/n loves you, you know that."
Tsuji raised his head and looked at his friend.
"She likes me as a friend. It's pretty pointless for us to discuss it now"
Shiba was aware of the disappointment on his friend's face no matter how hard he tried to hide it. He knew how much it hurt him.He knew Tsuji well.
He looked calmer, quieter, but he was the tougher one.He wanted to protect those he loved before himself. And not being with y/n right now to protect her was killing him.And no matter how good he was at hiding his feelings, Shibaman was his other half.
"When was the last time you saw her? Maybe you should meet up, it'll be good to see that she is okay too."
Tsuji looked away from his drink and looked out the window. He was watching people pass by as Shiba spoke.
At that time, a very strange coincidence happened and a young girl walked past the cafe.  Tsuji recognized her as soon as he saw her and excitedly stood up.Shiba looked at him in surprise for a few seconds and quickly followed him.
"Hey Tsuji, wait a minute!"
Tsuji hesitated as he left the cafe and looked in the direction the young girl was going.Y/n was with her boyfriend.  They were talking about something.
Shiba silently stood behind Tsuji and looked in the direction he was looking. He looked at his friend when he saw the scene where they were gonna eventually see one day.He couldn't decipher the expression on his face.
"Let's go back to the cafe if you want"
Tsuji was watching them silently. He didn't look jealous or angry. He was trying to understand something.
Why doesn't y/n look happy with her boyfriend?  And what was the topic they were discussing?  Why did that boy look like he was scaring her?  Or was it all part of his jealousy?
But after a while the boy's voice began to rise, and those around them were looking at the couple. When Shiba realized what Tsuji wanted to do, he gently grabbed his arm.
"Look, she has a boyfriend now. You shouldn't do anything to make her uncomfortable."
Tsuji looked at his friend and pulled his arm hard.Shiba rolled his eyes and walked after him as he began to walk forward without saying a word.
B/n was shouting at y/n while y/n was trying to calm him down. The looks of the people around them made the young girl quite uncomfortable. That's why she didn't want this discussion to go any further.
B/n didn't even realize what was happening, Tsuji stood behind y/n and looked at the young boy. Tsuji was taller and bigger than him, and he was sure stronger. But he wouldn't want to do anything wrong in front of y/n.
"Who the hell are you ?"
Y/n looked back and was quite surprised to see Tsuji.Saying his name in a low voice, Tsuji gave a small nod and asked the young girl.
"Is there a problem ?"
As Y/n shook her head in surprise, b/n took a step towards Tsuji and stood in front of him.
"I'm her boyfriend, who the fuck are you?"
Tsuji clenched his jaw in anger, while Shiba was one step behind, watching them.
"Tsuji, it's okay really. B/n is my boyfriend, it was just a little argument."
When Tsuji turned to the young girl, he knew that she was lying. He knew this was a serious discussion. But he did not have the right to say anything.
"His voice was pretty loud, if-"
"It's okay, really."
When Tsuji nodded, y/n's boyfriend said again
"Mind your own business, it's none of your business."
"The person you're yelling at is my best friend, so it's my business."
Y/n understood that Tsuji was getting quite angry, she was sure that he would beat the shit out of him. She got between the two of them and put her hand on her boyfriend's chest and took a few steps back.
Tsuji looked at her with disappointment when he saw that the young girl was protecting her lover. What did he expect? He was wrong, he shouldn't come here.
"Tsuji, it's okay really. See you later okay?"
When y/n asked in a nervous voice, Tsuji slowly nodded and y/n dragged her boyfriend away.  Tsuji slowly turned around and started walking without saying anything, and Shiba followed him.
***
Y/n was walking home in the dark alley with thoughts in her mind.It was her birthday 2 days ago and nothing was the same as it was.
At first, everything was like a fairy tale. She felt that he loved her, he was trying, he was fun, funny, sweet. She didn't even know what changed and when. But now everything had changed drastically.
The discussions, which started with small fits of jealousy at first, started to turn into severe insults and physical violence. She couldn't even see her best friend because of him.
That was the reason for the last fight again but Y/n would never tell Tsuji that. For her birthday, the young boy had bought and sent a cute necklace in the shape of a full moon. When Y/n wore the necklace, her boyfriend had asked and she told him.The fight had grown so much that it ended horribly.
She was wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt in this weather so that no one could see the marks left on her body by her toxic and psychopathic lover, whom she hid from her family, friends and everyone.
She got used to it, it didn't hurt anymore. But she was afraid of him, she really was.She was afraid that he would hurt her family and Tsuji, not herself.
The young girl was so busy with her thoughts that she suddenly bumped into someone. She was about to fall to the ground, and she regained her balance when she was grabbed by the shoulder of the person she had bumped, and looked at the person holding her.
"I'm so sorry- Tsuji??"
Tsuji had probably had a fight again, and there were wounds and dried blood on his face, neck, and hands.  He looked like he wanted to run away right now, although he looked quite surprised to see y/n too.
"Hi... are you going home?"
Nodding her head, the young girl grabbed Tsuji's wrist and looked at his knuckles.Tsuji was watching her silently, holding his breath and nervous.
"You fought again, didn't you?"
Y/n's voice, sounding in a scolding tone like his mother, made him smile. He slowly nodded like a guilty child, y/n sighed and shook her head.
"Does it hurt a lot?"
Tsuji quickly shook his head again
"No, don't worry, I'm perfectly fine."
Y/n rolled her eyes and started tugging at the young boy's wrist.Tsuji followed her silently.
"Let's clean your wounds, then eat.Sometimes I don't understand you. How can you be so reckless? When will you stop worrying your mother and me, Tsuji?"
He was listening in silence as Y/n dragged him home with a groan. He wasn't even sure what he was feeling right now. He was sure that Y/n saw him as her friend, but he couldn't help but be happy that she was worried about him.
When they got home, Tsuji took a seat in the living room and y/n returned after a while with the things she had brought for his wounds.
Although he still wanted to laugh at her scolding, the young boy didn't want to make her angry more. He didn't even want her to see him like this. He knew that y/n cared for him.
Y/n was standing between Tsuji's legs, slowly cleaning his wounds, while Tsuji was silently watching her.In the deeper wounds, he could see the worry on the young girl's face. Scaring, she pressed the cotton ball, biting her lip nervously at the deep wounds, trying to be gentle.
Tsuji was grateful. It was good to see her after a long time. Tsuji noticed the cute necklace around her neck as Y/n bent a little. She was wearing the necklace he had bought. He wanted to cry from happiness, even though he couldn't show it right now.
But soon after, he saw the bruises on the sides of the necklace. Though he thought it was something else at first, he realized it was small wounds that were starting to heal.Soon after, he noticed the young girl's wrist, she had the same bruises on her wrist.
When Tsuji realized what had happened, he quickly stood up and y/n looked at him in surprise. The young girl didn't have the slightest idea what was going on.
Tsuji couldn't stay calm right now, so he wasn't thinking about what he was doing. He grabbed her wrist and rolled up the sleeve of her shirt as the young girl winced in pain.  He looked at her in shock at the scars he saw.
"Y/n... what the hell is this?"
When Y/n averted her eyes, Tsuji slowly grabbed her chin and turned her towards him.
"Y/n, I asked you a question."
The young boy's anger was bare, but he still tried to remain calm.
The young girl did not want to say.  She knew that Tsuji will hate her, that it was her fault. She is also a coward. That's why she didn't want to tell the boy in front of her that her boyfriend abused her.
"Did that son of a bitch do this y/n?"  Tsuji couldn't keep his cool when the young girl didn't say anything.  "Y/n say something!"
The young girl was startled by the stern voice, nodded slowly, and Tsuji left the house without saying anything with the confirmation. he was so fast that y/n didn't even know what to do.
While he was going to find that guy, y/n quickly called Shibaman and explained the situation to him.
***
Tsuji hadn't even thought about coming here.  He was so angry, so full of hatred that he didn't think if the boy was alone or if he had a weapon.
He saw him sitting with two of his friends in an empty parking lot and went inside.  At first there was shouting between them, and the boy's arrogant attitude made him very angry.
"I knew you were in love with that little bitch. What happened? Are you this angry because she chose me instead of you?"
Tsuji had such an expression on his face that it was difficult to understand what he was thinking.
"You were supposed to protect her. Y/n loved you, she trusted you. How can you hurt her? Do you think you're a man when you hit someone weaker than you?"
When Tsuji shouted, B/n also got up and walked towards him. When he wanted to hit Tsuji in anger, Tsuji grabbed the boy's arm hard and knocked him down with a single punch.
"What are you standing there!"
It didn't take long for a fight when his two friends with him attacked Tsuji. Tsuji knew well that these guys weren't strong, they were just trying to look like it.Tsuji and B/n were left alone when their friends ran away from the parking lot.
The young boy stood up again.Tsuji defended himself with his arm as he took the pipe on the ground and tried to hit it at Tsuji. He didn't even care about his pain. As soon as he took the pipe from his hand, he knocked the boy down again.
He thought he was going to go crazy as the bruises on y/n's body came to his mind.He got more dizzy when he saw the boy on the ground pull a small pocketknife from his pocket. He hated dirty fighting.
He kicked the boy's hand hard with his foot and swept the knife away from him.  He got on top of him and started punching him one after the other. He didn't know how much time passed, but he stopped at the sound he heard.
"Tsuji stop now, you're going to kill him!"
He looked at the boy under him, his face covered in blood. He then looked at his hands.  He turned to them and looked at Todoroki, who was calling out to him.
Shibaman had called Todoroki as soon as he heard about it. They had come running when Y/n mentioned the parking lot.
"Stop, get up. It is enough, you're going to kill him."
Tsuji shouted when Todoroki calmly said
"He hurt her. He hurt Y/n. She had bruises on her arms. That bastard didn't even deny it."
Todoroki knew how angry Tsuji was, he was also angry.  But he wasn't going to let his friend ruin his life.
"I know, but that's enough-"
"Tsuji!"
As Todoroki was speaking, another voice was heard. Tsuji knew very well the owner of this voice. He looked at the young girl who had entered the parking lot and was staring at him in horror.  Shiba and Todoroki were also looking at her.
Tsuji slowly got up from the ground and stood up. He looked at his hands and the boy on the ground once more. He never wanted Y/n to see him like this.
They stared in silence for a while.Tsuji thought it was all over now as Y/n ran towards them. He thought that she would hate him for beating the bastard on the ground and even will afraid of him.
But it didn't turn out as expected.Y/n didn't go to her boyfriend. She ran and hugged Tsuji's waist.  She hugged him so tightly that Tsuji was in shock, trying to understand what was going on.
"I was afraid something bad would happen to you. I was terrified that something would happen to you because of me."
With the young girl's crying voice and her arms wrapping tightly around him, Tsuji slowly hugged her.Tsuji hugged her tightly as Y/n leaned a little closer to his chest and started to cry. And he placed thousand kisses on her hair.
***
Shibaman looked at the two in the living room through the door.Tsuji held y/n tightly on his lap and watched the sleeping girl without blinking.  Y/n had cried a lot, Tsuji couldn't hold back the tears as he held her and tried to calm her down.  Now y/n had fallen asleep while Tsuji was holding her as if he would never let her go.
Shiba silently walked over to Todoroki, who was sitting in the kitchen, and placed the coffee on the counter on the table.
"How is Tsuji?" Todoroki asked nervously.Tsuji and Shibaman were always by his side. No matter he never shows it,they were his first friends. It was also the first time he saw Tsuji like this.
He had known for a long time that he loved y/n.  But the situation was very serious. That's why he was afraid of him making a mistake.
"Y/n is sleeping and he is watching her. Even though he doesn't say anything, I know how scared and angry he is. I won't leave him alone for a while."
Todoroki nodded, he was thinking the same thing.
"Y/n doesn't know, does she?"
Shiba slowly nodded and smiled
"You can't easily understand Tsuji's feelings. Even when he's happy, he doesn't show much. He doesn't get angry as easily as I do. But when it comes to his loved ones, even I am afraid of what he might do."
Todoroki slowly nodded his head again
"I'll take care of this situation, Yuken said that boy is a dick."
There was a little silence, then Todoroki stood up.
"I'll check on the two of them, then I'll go home. Call me if there's a problem"
Shiba nodded and Todoroki walked into the hall.  He looked at the two from the door.Tsuji had laid Y/n on the couch and covered her.He was sitting on the floor right next to the sofa. And he had fallen asleep too.
Todoroki smiled and took the blanket off the side and gently placed it over Tsuji.  He wanted the two of them to be happy and promised to do his best for it.

my interpretation of stolas and blitz's relationship + ranting that goes nowhere
just look my way was the most beautiful mv ive ever seen. stolas 😭😭😭😭😭 bbg are you okay (he's not)
Tumblr media
i've read through the comments on this video and i agree with, well, all of them! one really struck me, though:
Tumblr media
i love this theory!
i have another one to add to this; several, actually!!
can the moon signify blitz's heavy emotional barrier? blitz is shown hiding behind the moon's outer crust in a protective position.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what i think is that he's protecting his heart, his soul; one that has been hurt many times in the past. he's suffered through the accident that led to fizzarolli losing his arms, his horns, etc., he's been through a breakup for a relationship that meant to validate his feelings, that yes, he can love, he could have someone love him, but all that happened was a breakup and public humiliation at asmodeus's lounge. and then there's his presumably dead mother and frustrated sister.
blitz doesn't want that to happen again. he's built such an emotional wall around his heart and his body that he doesn't realize stolas loves him. he doesn't want to get hurt. he's shown tucked away into the depths of the moon, curled up.
now, stolas--
i've been thinking about him a lot. the end really got me theorizing. he falls into the water, and he reaches his hand out only to 'drown' and wake up to reality, the asmodeus crystal on his desk.
i love that segment of the song so so much!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
my favorite depressed owl boy hshshshshshshshhshs ily stolas <3
the moon affects the waves of the sea. it reflects its light on the water and no matter how far they go, they always go deep. the moon provides light for the creatures above and below. the sea is deep, it's alluring, and it drowns those who are too weak, cowardly, or overconfident.
stolas is drowning in it. the sea implies his deep feelings for blitz. what started as a one-night affair led to something more, and that was love. he's never been in love, and all this is new to him, but he's being acknowledged yet pushed away by blitz (see emotional barriers above). i feel like their emotions are mutual; however, neither can express it properly.
Tumblr media
stolas is trying so hard.
at face value, blitz seems... ignorant? cold? busy? i, on the other hand, think he's trying not to get too close. there was a theory in that episode's comment section that blitz is not too educated and is trying his best to communicate. i have mixed feelings about that one.
the lyrics signify stolas letting blitz making his own choice, whether he wants the crystals or if he wants to continue the deal. i fear blitz will have the wrong idea on seeing the crystals. hopefully they clear everything up??????????? i might be hoping too much for a show that's bound to end in tragedy 😔
one more thing!!!
Tumblr media
in the truth seekers episode, stolas had blitz on a leash.
could this mean that blitz thinks stolas is truly in control? that stolas decides where their relationship goes from now on?? stolas is royalty, so its natural blitz thinks so. he looks scared? hesitant? is he too hesitant... to do what? to accept stolas loves him? to accept that their relationship is bad in a way? to accept that he loves him? to accept what?!
stolas is smiling in this scene, but it was all a truth poison trip, meaning that's how blitz perceived him before. in the later episodes, i feel like this perception changed. it still hurts to see this, though.
tl;dr: the sea, or the water body seen near the end of the mv can either be stolas's deep feelings for blitz or a metaphor for his chaotic life. blitz has protective walls around his heart to protect himself from further harm. blitz feels stolas is in control of their relationship.
dear god this show is so well written- i could write more but alas i have other things to do

Note
aspd culture is : goes into the aspd tag. seems someone claiming house md, (guy whos dxd aspd in the show im pretty sure lol) is actually hyperempathic instead of lacking it and avoids patients due to too much empathy. like ok just avoid the whole boundary pushing / whatever else ok. alright thats enough of that *turns off internet* ive had enough of prosocials damn why do they think the only aspd symptom ever is lack of empathy. god
The amount of people who take *any* ASPD rep - including but not limited to House, this was also EXTREMELY common with Wednesday Addams, who is also diagnosed with ASPD in the show Wednesday - and call it "hyperempathetic autism" is... disgusting honestly. I'm autistic too and I get the desire to have representation from non-infantalized characters, I do, but the erasure of ASPD from the very few sources who intentionally make ASPD representation is not how we handle that.
And, as you mentioned, many people intentionally overlook, ignore, or try to explain away any "bad" behavior (see also: ASPD symptoms) because it pushes against their point.
People are just... so desperate to not admit that anyone they like had ASPD that they will directly ignore and speak over the media's direct acknowledgement of ASPD just so they can see us as monsters and still have permission to like that character.
PSA to prosocials, especially those with no other experience with cluster b treatment:
When the therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist says the character "has antisocial traits" or "is antisocial", that's not a descriptor, nor does it mean they don't like people/avoid interaction with people. That's a medical professional using a different model of discussing a diagnosis with the patient by rephrasing it without the disorder attached. This is super common with ASPD because many pwASPD who are forced into treatment - like House and Wednesday - are resistant to admitting something is "wrong with them", so the professional will use the inital descriptor instead of the entire disorder name. In this case it's "antisocial" with the words personality disorder removed. It's also common to see in media happening for people with BPD, with the character being referred to as "having borderline traits" or "being borderline".
If the professional was referring to them or their traits as "asocial", then it would mean what you guys think it does - they avoid interaction, have a general dislike of socializing/social situations, and generally self-isolate. Antisocial and asocial are not the same, and while you can argue that anyone else in a show calling someone antisocial won't know the difference, their mental health professionals do. Evidently, House and the rest of the cast are also very aware in-canon of mental health, going by the DID episode which was done amazingly well imo. If House knows about Dissociative Identity Disorder, I assure you ASPD is not off of his radar. ASPD is significantly more prevalent than DID, with up to 4% of the US population having ASPD compared to 1% of the population having DID. While there is issues with under-diagnosis, those issues are the case with both disorders, so it's likely that the difference made by that would at most only slightly close the gap between the two. House also researches things purely based on the existence of stigma and/or lack of public knowledge on the subject, and frequently attempts to find out why he thinks and acts the way he does behind the scenes. If you google his symptoms, ASPD would be at least one of the things that comes up. So again, he is not misusing antisocial.
In fact, no one on House, MD would say antisocial where they meant asocial, as they are versed in psychology as a part of dealing with complex cases that have failed repeatedly to be diagnosed. That is shown constantly throughout the show. If you chose 3 episodes at random, I'm willing to bet at least one would show their experience in psychology as one of the team pushes the "it's just mental illness" angle.
All of this is to say that fuck prosocials endless refusal to actually acknowledge ASPD, both in likeable and notably unlikable characters!! Many of them HATE House, yet still can't admit he has ASPD. It's giving ableist, because it is ableist.
Plain text below the cut:

„ᴛᴏ ꜱᴇᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴛʀᴜᴛʜ”
- a chishiya series. ch3 ch5
masterlist
warnings + notes: not much happening here!! just mentions of sex and whatnot… chapter is kinda plain i cant lie
ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ꜰᴏᴜʀ:
- GAME START
chishiya has to rope himself down to reality multiple times. his first impression of you made him feel his throat and heart clench- even though you looked ragged from this world.
but now, after he’s successfully dragged you into his beginning phase of his scheme against the beach- he’s partially worried on how focus he’ll remain on this mission. somehow, he wishes you chose a regular swimsuit bottom, the short swim-skirt makes his mind freeze as he sees it shift whenever you walk. he’s not complaining, but at the same time- the priority is to subtly get you to join his ploy.
he’s briefly mentioned it to kuina, a night where he escorted her to her room after she enjoyed one too many drinks- he’s not even fully sure if she’s genuine about her participation in the plan either.
he gives you a sly smile when you walk up, holding onto your arms and squeezing past the people flooding the beach.
“hey, so…” your slight nervousness amuses him. “do you mind showing me around, i’m actually a bit hungry and lost and you’re the only person i know here.”
chishiya isn’t sure why, but hearing that you need to depend on him makes him smile bigger- but he dismisses the expression quickly. he’s a man of little words, and just says “sure” before motioning with his hand to follow him.
the music blares intensely, and you’re amazed at how high the speakers go. you pass by the club scene, and you were very grateful for not staying longer than necessary. in every corner, people were on top of each other- moaning in their mouths. its highly uncomfortable for you, and you shuffle further down by chishiya just trying to get away.
“im starting to think you had me join a sex ring chishiya..” he laughs a bit, before turning to look at you “how come?”
“well first off.. we get here and that nani dude says you’re gonna have fun !”
“do you mean niragi? and i have my own fun, very much far away from all the loud and dirty people.”
you cringe a bit at hearing that you said the wrong name, but continue. “well then you leave me in a room with that freako hatter! he nearly fucked the girl in front of me.. and he was looking at me like i was next.” chishiya notices your shivers during ur recount, and he frowns a bit.
“if i could’ve stayed with you, i would’ve.”
he speaks lightly, and for some reason.. this affects you strongly
finally you arrive at the food bar- meals loitering the counters and tables, but none look appetizing.
“it’s the best they can do, most of it all is canned food, we don’t have many hunters here.” he speaks, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets and following behind you as you browse your options.
you hum as a reply, acknowledging his comment, and he’s right… the options and appearances of the plates seem to mediocre at best, but you grab the plate of rice and beans anyways.
chishiya is deep in thought, more than you’ve seen within your short time of knowing him. but he’s thinking of the best approach to start luring you in as his bait .
“hey chishiya” your voice snaps him out of his thoughts.
“whats up?”
“what did you do before… this ?” you motion to the sky, face contorted with curiosity. chishiya debates his response to you, how much exactly should he let you know about? he doesn’t exactly care for telling you anything about himself frankly, but despite the pessimism- he clears his throat and brings his hands out of his pocket once you sit at a booth.
“im a senior medical student, so far ive had the most experience out of my peers. ive been assisting in multiple patient cases. i’ll complete my studies quite soon actually.” chishiya doesnt realize hes spoken more than he intended, he honestly just was going to leave it at ‘im a senior medical student’- but looking at you makes him a bit more vocal.
you nod with awe, “wow! thats so cool, wish i had gone to school for something helpful like that.”
“what did you go for?”
“business.”
he laughs- and you scowl a bit and roughly scrape at your plate and eat some of your dinner
“what do you plan on doing with that?” he says, coming down from his giggles. you just shrug, mumbling your response.
“dont know, actually i went to an interview the day i got here. wanted to work in account files for a law firm.” chishiya nods “that seems promising, hope when you get out you score the job.”
you smile and thank him, and chishiya is internally kicking his brain hard. hes being too friendly for his own liking and its rather unsettling him.
he decides on staying silent after that, and you both sit in a comfortable silence as you eat- and he lays back across from you, resuming his music. every now and then, he looks at you subtly, staring at your lashes, nose and cheeks. he admits he finds you attractive.
the sky dims more, and ironically- you can hear more people join the party nearby. it’s honestly starting to give you a headache. a woman walks into the room, legs slender and tall and her locs flow behind her as she walks up to your table.
“chishiya. where have you been?” she asks your companion, and you begin to feel as though you’re being shut out slightly.
“ah, been helpin’ out the newest beach member.” the woman turns her head confused, but then lights up with shock when she meets your eyes.
“oh! you’re so pretty!” youre stunned, and you cant hide a bashful smile as you laugh a bit.
“oh thank you.. though im looking rather rough recently. you’re gorgeous though!” the woman’s heart swells and she smiles back, the cigarette butt between her teeth bouncing slightly.
she sticks her hand out towards you, “kuina” you shake it softly and introduce yourself, and begin to move down the booth to invite her to sit before chishiya cuts you off
“dont, shes not staying.” he says cooly, not even looking at you but rather kuina.
kuina raises an eyebrow, and chishiya gets up
“get back to your room safely. i’ll see you soon. “ his hands confide in his pockets and he walks out of the dining area, leaving kuina a few feet behind.
she quickly bids you goodnight and says how happy she is to have met you, and follows chishiya quickly.
you’re really confused, where are the two going? why are they leaving you alone… and what on earth are they doing?
you decide theres too many possibilities, some of which youd rather not know about or imagine- and choose to throw your now empty plate out and head back to bed.
chishiya is trying his best not to snap at kuina as she persistently inquires him about you.
“how’d you meet her?”
“a game.”
“oh? i doubt you helped her like some knight in armor” he sneers at her comment, “ah kuina you know me so well” she shrugs her shoulders as they step closer to the planning room.
“just don’t get why she hasn’t branched out to someone a bit more welcoming.”
though to another person, this would seem insulting, chishiya knows kuina well enough to know she’s being genuine- and knows his behavior quite well. he secretly agrees with her, he’s not exactly some warm and gentle person- and maybe you’d be better off with someone who is. but he can’t risk you meeting people and becoming attached, he needs you afterall for the plan to continue.
deep inside though, he enjoys the fact that he’ll get to see you so often.

it's high time that i redid the ✨masterpost✨ of all the shit floating around this blog where i say anything arguably insightful, existential/philosophical, or even just teetering on the cusp of being vaguely intelligent, so voila here you go and fucking enjoy:
worth having a looksie through this: longwinded anon (LWA)✨ masterpost
and then because i am actually so proud of these i did video edits to lewis capaldi (he's my hozier fight me) and im sorry but my beat matching is insane, godlike even:
season 2 (forget me)
season 1 (heavenly kind of state of mind)
also:
did i get emotional over crowley's fall and having to leave behind his creations and aziraphale's various conflicts in faith? you're goddamn right i did (credit to hillywood for the fall scenes that sent me into a frenzy)
stuff that is potentially relevant to s3 or is essentially my safe space to shit on these two incompetent-ass characters for being the most ridiculous beings god ever conceived:
(be warned, all of these will conflict each other bc im a loose cannon, a wildcard, and can't settle on a single thing)
(no seriously my opinion changes over time so interpretations that i once held might no longer be the interpretation that i have now, ya feel me)
you wanted a s3 plot prediction, right?
aziraphale brought an ak-47 to a fist fight and ohooo boy did it have Consequences
god i really ought to work out a tagging system in here, huh - this is my ramble on what i think could have happened during the fall
just a small one on the 1967 scene and the holy water thing (tw: suicide)
crowley found the book of life and tbh it was very james bond of him
saraqael rapidly slotting into my top 5 GO characters based on a singular hc wahoo
fuckin ✨1941✨ (this also upsets ALL of my interpretations of the Final Fifteen which... well what can u do)
a fucking rug just put shivers down my spine
more on raphael/azazel/scapegoat/fall theory, glorious smart anons are feeding me yummy soup
perhaps a more comprehensive rambling on omelas, scapegoats, and Those Promo Photos
an updated maggie rambling why not, she's still giving me a headache (and this ask neatly summarises some stuff too!)
my boy crowley really doesn't like change, does he wee baby (may develop this into a full meta who knows)
you know i think heaven might just be the bad place, i know - shocker
god i hope i was possessed by agnes nutter when i wrote this
a gifset format bc i cba to write, but aziraphale might have been, or might become, raphael
ive lied like a rug in previous theory posts: THIS one, this time travel clusterfuck, is the bottom of the barrel
spent hours studying michael sheens face in utter disbelief that he is capable of portraying every emotion known to man, and wrote about it (ie my take on the kiss)
i think goob might have been more important in the mega miracle than we initially thought (and no - not in the way you're currently thinking)
aziraphale and suffering are pretty well acquainted with each other (warning: i absolutely HATE this meta it's so bad)
um i guess you could term this as god is dead theory? nietzsche strikes again anyway
we REALLY hit rock bottom in the theory stakes with this one, lads (it's about whether crowley does in fact fully remember the fall)
(REWORKED) greasy johnson is the second coming. that's it. that's the post.
finally wrote about the book of life well done me
crowley was offered the same chance as aziraphale, im fairly sure, and as far as ive seen noone noticed??
the motif of lies in job made me come over all poetic
relativity is NOT my milieu especially in GO but giving it my best shot
hahaha is everything aziraphale's fault hahahaha
fuckinnnn BOOOOOOKKKSSSSS
EVERY DETAIL MATTERS? YEAH I SHOULD FUCKING THINK SO (and im still keeping this on here bc if im right in s3 im never going to shut up)
job is crowley and crowley is job except job didn't get sent to sit on the naughty step
never thought id see the day where i analyse richard curtis' 4WAAF but this show has got me whipped, jumping through hoops and over stalls like a fucking show pony
i have the dreadful feeling that we might have been fools by sleeping on aziraphale's own angelic importance all this time
did the costume department just simply go ham in s2 or are the angel costumes Important?
more on outfits
ruminations on the fall, morality and omniscience vs. free will, and making choices as if i have any idea what im talking about
okay this one is a little shitpost-y but the message is sound and im an un-apologetic aziraphale supporter, sue me
a sprinkle of s2 symbology, a dash of ineffable plan speculation, and laure girlbossing on how the two go together mwah
this was sooooo tasty i love talking about nietzsche
honestly this one doesn't even have a theme i just like talking to people
okay so this is the genesis of my aziraphale defence league (population: like 15% of the fandom) but i will not stop until he gets the recognition and empathy he mf deserves
Cancel Metatron 2k23
this was pre-s2 but the concept still stands: something feels icky about crowley's fall narrative and the book of life is ringing alarm bells
the concept of pedestals is one of my juicy favourites in psychology and you will find out just how much if you stick around this blog long enough (aziraphale's critique)
and lastly crowley's narrative of his fall? hm, big issue there and honestly the root of all Crowley discourse on this blog, be duly warned
old stuff if you fancy having a giggle at my expense
come chat to me about things

Let's talk more about Mayday.
I was going through my second watch of the Bad Batch season 2, and The Outpost really stuck out to me, but not because of Crosshair. Don't get me wrong, the character development that man went through was *chef's kiss*, but it was Mayday's story that got to me.
We know very little about Mayday and his squadron. We don't even know what his CT number was, or the names of his full squad, but there are a few things we can infer about him and his men.
(spoilers for S2 E12 under the cut)
Tumblr media
As we all know, keeping an entire clone squadron alive through the Clone Wars was next to impossible. Season after season, we watched good clones die from all sorts of squadrons and for all types of reasons (RIP Fives).
Without any outside information, it can be inferred that Commander Mayday was able to keep his entire squad alive throughout the Clone Wars. Meaning Mayday was a great leader and cared about his men, as well as the mission.
However, that all changed when he and his men were stationed on the godforsaken planet Barton IV. In the first few minutes of meeting Mayday, we see the helmets of his fallen squad memebrs memoralized on display, as well as his last two men still alive.
Tumblr media
The Clone Wars lasted for about 3 years. They survived together for 3 years. Then, in the short time frame of just 1 year, he lost his entire squad. All of them. Just gone. Blown-up, shot, eaten, or frostbit, they died somehow, and for what?
Imagine what Mayday must have felt as his squad slowly got picked off one by one. They were just like all the other squads in the Clone Wars. They had names and personalities. They had likes and dislikes. They probably made fun of each other and laughed. They may have even cried. They were brothers.
Tumblr media
The most heartbreaking part was when Mayday finally knew what his men gave their lives for. Gear. And not even clone trooper gear, but storm trooper gear. They battled the planets elements in literal rags, all the while dying to protect gear they could have been using. Even the music was heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
The amount of internal twisting in his gut when he realized must have been excruciating. Clones don't show a lot of emotion. They are soldiers, after all. However, they're also human. I don't care how rough, tough, or gruff you are, you'll feel something watching a comrade die in action.
And that brings me to the avalanche scene. Everyone really focuses on Crosshair's part in this, and the correlation to their previous conversation about "dead weight", but Mayday threw a gut punch. It's one line. But it carries so much weight.
"Go, I won't make it."
Tumblr media
This man, who has lost his entire squadron and failed the mission, has completely resigned to his fate. He's ready to die. He's ready to leave this world behind because everything he fought for is gone. He has no squad to go back to, and the empire doesn't take in strays.
At that point, death was his best option. Honestly, that is where this whole scene hits differently. Because it happens in real life with real soldiers. They fight, lose their buddies, and come back to a society that tosses them aside like garbage. They too feel that their best option is death, and they run to it.
Truly heartbreaking.
I don't know anything about the Star Wars afterlife or the lore behind their deities or "maker", but this is what I envision after Mayday dies.
Maker: Welcome, Mayday.
Mayday: Is this death?
Maker: It is.
Mayday: Are... my men here?
Maker: Yes, they are.
Mayday: Can I see them?
Maker: That depends.
Mayday: On what?
Maker: On your judgement.
Mayday: Judgememt?
Maker: Yes. You must be judged. Please tell me why I should let you pass on.
Mayday: I... there's not much I tell. I lost my squad. They followed me... and died. Their deaths are on my shoulders. I also... failed my mission. I guess I have no reason.
Maker: Perhaps. But were you a good soldier?
Mayday: I... I'd like to think so.
Maker: Commander Mayday. You followed your orders and served your men well. They gladly laid down their lives under your command. Each one spoke highly of your leadership.
Mayday: They did?
Maker: Yes.
Mayday: They were good men.
Maker: As are you. I will now pass my judgment upon you. I judge you as a good soldier and grant you access to paradise. Enter and join your brothers in peace.
Mayday: I am truly grateful.
*doors of heaven open*
*standing on the other side is his squad*
Squad: Commander! What took you so long? You're late! We've been bored without you! Come join us! Hexx and Veetch beat you here! Our squad is back together again!
Mayday: Hey boys.
*group hug*

so let’s talk about the Conan performance, tell us everything
ive said it before ive probably said it a ton of times but ill say it again it was not like. okay. lets lay out the Facts. the first fact being that the performance was over, conan cuts to commercial, and then it pans out and frank grabs gerard by the head and plants one on him. the other facts being that when they have explained stage gay in the past its been like oh its in the heat of the moment we dont know what we're doing, or oh we saw some macho guys beating each other up in the crowd and how funny would it be if they looked up and saw two guys kissing. and also another fact being i believe this is the first On The Lips Kiss that we have like. video/photographic proof of. so if w THINK about all of these facts. well heat of the moment is out of the question. the performance was over. they werent so hyped up on adrenaline that they just "collided" (thank you gerard). im like fairly positive that there were no macho meatheads beating each other up in the crowd of the conan obrien studio set. so like. being subversive to the crowd is also out of the question. and like i said conan had already cut to commercial so we can also eliminate like making a statement against homophobia on live television off the list because they DID NOT THINK they were on air.
we also have to consider this being like i said the first kiss WE saw. obviously it could have happened previously at a small show where no one had a camera out. and we would have no idea bout it. until it surfaces in 2030 cause someone found their digital camera. me crossing my fingers. anyway. but like this is the first one we are aware of. and like. does it look like a first kiss?? does it look like something theyve NEVER done before? does it look like frank has never kissed gerard in his life and he decided that was the perfect moment to shoot his shot??? NO!!!!!!! it looks like quite practiced and like ultimately it looks FAMILIAR. im not saying they were boyfriends!!!!! but that conan kiss above literally anything else is what proves to me they were at the very least smooching behind the scenes and say what you will about kissing your friends but ultimately having a regular practice of kissing your same sex best friend gayly on the lips in 2004 was not the norm. so it is the main thing i can reference when i say i just simply believe there was more going on than meets the eye with it being simply stage gay and thats it cut and dry. i just don't believe it. and obviously there are many factors and some of the solo lyrics go CRAAAAZY. but yes thats how i feel.

disorganized thoughts on fionna and cake eps 5 and 6
(Spoilers!!)
ok ive only seen the eps once each and im going off of memory so a lot of this is probably gonna be paraphrased and mixed up but whatever . also this post is really fucking long lol sorry
-OK FIRST OFF THESE WERE SO GOOD RAAAAAH
-obviously we are in the farmworld, not surprised but very happy!!!
-also not very surprised fionna and cake immediately went along with simon’s plan
-the whole time they were talking about where to find a crown i was like lol. simon don’t look behind you
-cake bringing fionna a dead rat was really funny
-the versucci gag or whatever was also really good
-but what made me die was fionna talking abt how she’s played a lot of post apocalyptic rpgs and then it pans over to “man who has actually lived through the apocalypse”
-was really cool to see how the farmworld has developed after what happened with ice finn, i think it’s interesting how they’re more technologically advanced since the first time an ice age happened in this world they pretty much reverted to medieval times (does that make sense. you know what i mean)
-i was SO convinced jay was farmworld finn’s little sibling so when he said dad my heart stopped
-the name jay didn’t immediately click until bonnie was revealed to be one of his other kid’s name and i was like HOLY SHIT PUHOY???
-veeeery interesting since assumingely golb destroyed/erased the pillow world
-i guess you could just chalk it up to finn would have named his kids the same thing in any universe?
-but i mean speaking of his kids GOD he got busy with huntress wizard
-i mean it has to be huntress wizard. one of them looks just like human hunter wizard
-sucks that she died though
-simon’s ship of theseus thing was so fucking funny oh my god he’s just like me fr (i started talking about the ship of theseus in one of my assignments a few days ago and i was like. is this too nerdy.)
-i haven’t really talked about farmworld finn yet. a little sad he turned out so cold (pun not intended oops 😭) because of what happened to him when he was younger
-good on him for saying simon was a damn fool or whatever for wanting to put the crown on lol
-i wish they actually had a talk though
-cake saying fionna should kiss him while knowing he’s just an alternate version of her??????? girl
-also farmworld jake still being alive was crazy
-so it did turn out the crown was destroyed in this world, i honestly wasn’t sure since the crown from the main world survived direct contact with a comet lol
-the romeo and juliet style romance going on between finn’s kid and big destiny’s kid was really good
-finn showing up with bartram lmao!!!!!
-dude i love bartram, the bit in finn the human where finn’s mom says that they have to sell the mule and then bartram’s head peaks out from the bed in the corner is unironically one of my favorite jokes in adventure time
-i kinda forgot what happens between here and the end
-so did farmworld finn fucking die????
-idk what happened there i sure hope not
-i really don’t know if we’re going to revisit these worlds in any capacity considering the amount of time left but i hope we do now!! i feel like we need to see what happens lmao
-now for ep 6
-wasn’t really expecting it to open on “fionna world” as they started calling it
-i was wondering how they were gonna balance gumball and marshall yaoi with what’s going on with the main trio
-they did it really well though i think
-i also wasn’t really expecting to be introduced to winter king right away once we got back to the main plot
-he definitely gave me weird vibes right from the start im gonna be honest lol
-blaah i don’t really remember what happens between that and the winter wonder world sequence
-so ill just talk about that. holy fuck
-every review i read before the show came out was really hyping this scene up and i get why now
-was really cool to see the beyond the grotto animation again and the song was so good it’s still stuck in my head
-but the moment the winter king said he overcame the crown with sheer will i was like. um. im calling bs
-i was just thinking however it did happen though i have a bad feeling about! felt really bad for simon and when he said that he sucked i was like. oh no ☹️ dude
-the moment i saw little ice marcy pretty much cemented it for me i was like oh no something fucked up is happening here. tbh i still can’t really figure out what happened with that but given what the winter king said about making an ice betty. uhhhhhhhhhh
-OH YEAH cake once again saying simon and the winter king should kiss . GIRL WHAT ARE YOU ON
-i looooved crazy pb
-i remember when people were saying she was a marcy pb child lmao.
-simon saying that he wanted to “fix her” while the winter king just wanted to kill her was really interesting. im trying to figure out what it means lol. like we know that simon wants to be the ice king again but also now knowing he would want to fix and save someone from that madness…idk
-her song was really good
-her playing those ominous notes on her keyboard made me laugh
-i haven’t really talked about gumball (im not calling him gary im sorry) and marshall. i thought they were really cute!!! could definitely see marcy and pb meeting in a similar way
-the juxtaposition between gumball talking about his creations to fionna fighting the fucked up versions of them was really cool
-i hope gumball doesn’t take what the lemoncarbs said to heart . they’re just like that
-ok so. I was honestly more shocked that fionna kissed (a version of) simon than him disintegrating seconds after lmaooooo
-i have to wonder why he immediately died here when in betty (the episode) he was dying relatively slowly without the crown’s magic
-ive been writing down a bunch of crack theories and the first thing ive gotten right was the winter king transferring his craziness to pb lol lets goooo
Tumblr media
-i was thinking that simon might’ve transferred it himself but then i was like nooo he wouldn’t do that….apparently he would do that
-idk despite how he seemed i think the winter king was still a little insane in the membrane.
-maybe the crown was still influencing him in some way? and that’s the message here? idk
-i can’t believe bi fionna is real
-back to gumball and marshall. gumball describing slumber party panic……oh my jod 🥺🥺🥺
-the baby world was so cute
-“and i’ll be cursed the right way” simon do you fucking hear yourself
Ok that’s definitely not all i have to say but this post is long enough lmao ,, god this show is SO GOOD i can’t believe it’s real. ok that’s all

Free Comic Book Day 2024
I thought it might be fun to write a little something about each of the comics I got yesterday at FCBD. So here we go. Part 1 of 5.
The Worlds of James Tynion IV - This includes samples from three different series written by James Tynion IV: Something Is Killing the Children, Memetic, and The Woods. These are all creator-owned series published through Boom! Studios. The only one of these I'd read before is Something Is Killing the Children. The pages here are, IIRC, the opening pages of volume one. The other samples also feel like openings. They are all intriguing. Each scene has a really good hook. They are all horror series. I'd say this is a good FCBD issue, as it definitely works as a promotional comic. You really want to see what happens next in each of these series.
Dying Inside - Mixed emotions here, because the story is about a girl who is trying to kill herself. It's not done distastefully, it's just inherently troublesome. I don't want to dwell on it. It's not a series that I want to read, but this opening chapter does end on a cliffhanger, so it does its job as a "first taste". Do not read if you are having problems with self harm or suicidal thoughts (the warning on the inside front cover says essentially the same).
Hellboy - As far as I can remember, I've never read a Hellboy story that I didn't like, and happily, that tradition continues here. It's 1983, and Hellboy is investigating a potentially supernatural death in Romania. In the process, he encounters a monster who can see into his past, showing us the readers glimpses of previous Hellboy stories. This is a cool way of showcasing the character's catalog, and it's a satisfying short story. Well done. The second story in this issue is a Stranger Things tie-in featuring Argyle, that dude from the most recent season who delivers pizzas. It's neat bit of backstory for him, and the art is nice. Good stuff.
Absolute Power - This one is billed as "the prelude to the epic event!" and that's accurate. It introduces the latest scheme by Amanda Waller, Supervillain. She has teamed up with Failsafe, who is apparently something like those robot duplicates that Superboy used to keep around to protect Smallville when he was away, but it's Batman this time, and it's super serious. Or, you know, as serious as a Batman robot duplicate can be. Waller is in charge of some new, super-powerful government program, and she's taken over the Hall of Justice (renaming it the Hall of Order). Okay, I love the DC characters, so I'm always interested in what's going on with them, and my comic-nerd brain can't help but be a little intrigued by wondering where the latest twists and turns are going, but I probably won't pick this up. The supervillain version of Amanda Waller feels like a lessening of the character. She felt more complex in the old Suicide Squad when she wasn't super. I know she doesn't have actual superpowers, but she's super like Batman or Lex Luthor are super: they have super resources, super smarts, super skills, super plans, etc. etc. Anyway. The art is great, and the write-ups about DC's recent events (Lazurus Planet, Beast World…) made me want to read those. Apparently Waller had a thread running through those that led up to Absolute Power, so good job with the longterm storytelling seeds. (Yes, I'm way behind with the superhero universes. The only current one I've been reading is Birds of Prey, which I love. I'm a mood reader, and the mood goes where the mood wants to go.)

YAKSHA LORE !!!
spoilers : 2.7 quest stuff in general
━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
In case anyone is wondering, my favorite part of genshin lore is mostly the Liyue related stuff, yakshas in particular. I love angst, it’s the first thing I look for in game storylines, books, fanfics, characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Gives me a nice fuzzy feeling lol The whole story of the yaksha and Xiao’s ✨traumatic✨ life draws me in so easily. I have a whole google doc that’s all just my yaksha theory stuff (a lot that was either confirmed or debunked(?) when I did the quest today lol) BUT that’s not the point! THIS EVENT FILLED SOMETHING IN MY HEART IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR AH I love the yakshas so this entire event has been a blast knowing what it’s about.
I very much so enjoyed each tiny cutscene, all the characters I never thought would interact interacting. I’m sad Itto and Xiao didn’t have a bigger interaction. I love Itto’s whole big brother vibe towards Xiao and I would enjoy a relationship with them where Itto kinda fills a bit of the hole that Xiao’s yaksha siblings left behind after they died.
I really felt like the whole time Xiao was kinda just over it. He wanted to either save or have closure with Bosacius leaving. He didn’t want his friends (a word I think he’s slowly getting comfortable with once again) to die, so he felt like the easiest solution was to sacrifice himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like I shouldn’t be saying this because it’s literally Xiao contemplating death but uh he looks so fucking pretty at this part. The way he looks up, lowkey majestic, I love him.
That aside you can tell he thought for a quick moment, probably more “I wonder if I can do it.” rather than “I wonder if I should sacrifice myself to do it.” Mans do not care about himself and he makes it obvious to everyone.
I really enjoyed the moment when Yelan just went ham on him for even considering to sacrifice himself. She didn’t hold back and didn’t try the whole “bUt PeOpLe WiLL miSs YoU!” shit. She said it like a slap to the face and it clearly got through to him. Your sacrifice isn’t worth it if everybody can’t get out, including you. She even pointed out his whole tough exterior being a cover up. While it’s obvious Xiao is a strong much more elite being than others, despite not being a human, he’s still a person, someone with thoughts a feelings and Yelan indirectly pointing that out did make me appreciate her character a little more. She has an interesting approach with those she cares about and knows she can trust that I can somewhat respect.
For some context, I don’t enjoy Yelan’s attitude, her whole “I’m better than everyone because I have experience and trauma” vibes bothers me, but there are things here and there that make me appreciate the tiny details in her character. I’ve yet to do her story quest so mayhaps I will change my mind if it gives us a bit of a better glimpse into her character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That also brings me to this. WHEN I TELL YOU I ALMOST SOBBED- Again, I don’t like Yelan, but this look on her face made me b r e a k- She barley knows Xiao, but the thought of losing an ally, someone she recognizes her friends value, makes her crumble. It felt very unusual to see her make that face, even though we the players also haven’t known her very long. Xiao u heart breaker smh
Tumblr media
The entire cutscene was fucking gorgeous, I loved every moment (kind of, the red blobs were kinda confusing and I was like bro ok I get it they’re fighting while doing this, move on). Aether animated in cutscenes always makes me happy lol he’s so bouncy and excited, ready to fight. Paimon just chillin cause she don’t know wtf to do. Zhongli saving Xiao actually didn’t happen how I thought or wanted it to,,, I had it spoiled for me that he saved him but the way he saved him was kinda lackluster to me ig. While I do think it was really pretty and well done, still a great way for that scene to end, I was still kind of hoping for a lil more dramatics on Zhongli’s side. I suppose he’s not much of a show off anymore  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think the whole Xiao’s father figure being Zhongli was in my head and I was like “What? No coming to his aid and heroically rescuing him in the same manner he saved us?
I do think it’s quite poetic to see the way he made no effort to prove it was him who helped other than looking down on Xiao before leaving. I bet he had a tiny smile on his face just as Xiao looked over at him. Xiao’s face looked so sweet. I can’t put a word to the face he made honestly. There was a hint of confusion, disbelief, surprise. Many emotions running thru his tiny little brain. I like seeing him properly animated, it’s nice to see actual expressions rather than the dull face he has as an npc most of the time. I hope we get some sort of scene where we (or even just Xiao) have another interaction about the whole event.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to say it’s my favorite part but it’s not lol The story of the yakshas just fueled my love for them though and it was so excited to actually get to learn more canon information about them. Watching theories get confirmed and sparking even more in the process was neat. I hope we eventually get to learn which yaksha is which other than Bosacius and Xiao of course. My favorite has to be the geo yaksha. Don’t know why ngl I actually thought he was quite ugly the first time I saw him and I was obsessed with the pyro one for the longest time but now he’s growing on me. I think he’s quite pretty and his voice is very calming (despite that we only got like a second of a voiceline from him, I tell you I overanalyze anything and this guys voice is included).
Tbh Bosacius ugliest sibling- no shame. The rest of them are so pretty and Bosacius....... pyro yaksha got me on my knees I swear. The hydro one is cute too I love her she sounds like a sweetheart.
━━━━━━━ ✤ ━━━━━━━
Alright I’m lowkey tired so that’s all I’ve got to say about the quest. I enjoyed it a lot and hope we get another yaksha centered quest to learn more!

Alrighty I finished watching the 2012 Jesus Christ Superstar, the one that people on tumblr like to gif the most
Thats not meant to be an insult btw, honestly this might be my favorite version Ive seen so far overall
I initially had pretty mixed feelings about the actors they got for Jesus and Judas, like, they werent bad but I felt like Judas especially wasnt putting enough emotion into it and their delivery was kinda off at times but then we got the last supper scene and I thought they were great from that point on. Judas was good, I didnt like him as much as 73!Judas but honestly after watching the 2000s movie Im just glad he was portayed in a sympathetic way at the very least. I actually really liked Jesus in this one too, which is pretty surprising because Ive found him pretty unlikable in the previous versions and also Ive been translating the german versions of these songs which made me realize that a lot of that unlikability is kinda baked into the script as well. Usually I tend to dislike Jesus for about half the show until it gets to that bit after the last supper where everyones sleeping and hes looking around like "wont anyone be with me now 🥺" and Im like, aw thats just a sad little man, a lost littol guy, I cant dislike him when hes like that
I really liked the way they modernized this story here, it felt a lot less anachronistic and like there was a more cohesive vision behind it. While I usually like anachronistic settings and think itd be especially fitting for JCS, I felt like the execution was kinda lacking in the previous version and Im glad the 2012 version basically just went full Modern AU with it
Pretty much everything else I have to say applies to either the costuming or specifoc songs/scenes so in the interest of having a better structure than I had in my previous review-post-things I think Im just gonna talk about costuming and then each song in chronological order. Also I will be comparing this version both the 73 and the 2000s movie because thats how I do things babeyyyy whyd you think my review of the 2000s movie was so much longer and more articulated its because I do better when Im comparing two things
Costuming
Right off the bat, I dont think this technically has anything to do with the costuming, this would probably fall under casting actually, but Im so glad Jesus was brunette in this because him being blonde in the previous two versions was weirdly upsetting to me. Like, obviously he usually gets whitewashed in popular media and thats gross and almost definitely inaccurate but because it happens so frequently and has been happening for such a long time I barely even register it beyond maybe going "hm. thats wrong" at the very start whenever they show Jesus as the whitest guy on earth in anything, but I usually see him portrayed as brunette at the very least so seeing him get portrayed as blonde on top of the whitewashing was just too much man. Also he looks like Lin Manuel Miranda but Im like 90% sure thats not him
I like that they modernized Jesus' clothes for this as well because in the 2000s movie he wore a white tanktop and like, jeans probably in the very first scene but in every other scene hes wearing these long flowing white robes, so I like that they put him in a normal white shirt (and black jeans) even though it doesnt really have that same vibe of divine purity if its not a long flowing robe or a dress. Like, he literally just looks like the most normal guy ever wearing that and I really like that tbh
He also wore a brown scarf a few times and I kinda wish it was red instead because I did some research and found out that hes pretty heavily associated with that color. I mean, I also found out that a whole bunch of figures in the bible are associated with red, like if someone tried to quiz you on this you could probably get 50% of the answer if you just said red everytime, but still.
Speaking of red, I think I said at some point that Judas not wearing red irked me, and it still does just to be clear, but Ive thought about it a little and I actually quite appreciate the thought that went into the color coding here, for lack of a better term.
Like, instead of red being Judas' and Marys color like in the previous films (i dont actually remember what color Mary wore in the 70s movie but im going with it anyway) its essentially the color that the antagonists or people who are in some way against Jesus but who werent really directly involved in his death. Herod is probably the most obvious example, hes completely decked out in red but Simon is also wearing it and hes characterized as someone coopting this message of Love and Acceptance and whatnot in order to spread hate, Im pretty sure Peter also wears it and he ends up denying Jesus.
And then sortof complementary to that we have black as the color of people who were more directly involved in Jesus' death, like Caiaphas and his guys, Pilates and of course Judas. The crowd that gathers and calls for Jesus' crucifixion at the end is also wearing black so could see them partaking in his death as well
And then we obviously have white for Jesus and Mary as basically his closest follower who seems to understand him the most and also probably embodies his message of acceptance the best. Judas also has a white scarf to still tie him to him visually even though he does end up betraying him which I find neat
The fact that he didnt get to wear white for the last song again is crime honestly, cmon man do it for the visual cohesion if nothing else. They threw in a few singers who were also wearing black so Judas wouldnt be the only guy in black surrounded by a bunch of angels in white but ehhhhh, it only kinda works imo. I mean atleast its not as messy and thematically confusing as whatever they tried to do at the end of the 2000s version but still, just let my guy wear white
Also, before I move on I wanted to compliment the sets, or stage, since it was mostly just a pretty empty stage with few props and just a really big screen. I think they utilized the screen really well, just consistently having that illusion of The Media there really helped modernize this musical. I also liked the portayal of Jesus n gangs hideout as this little encampment and the implication that they had the last supper in basically their home. Idk what its like in the bible but from both of the other versions i watched I got the impression that they had the last supper somewhere else and while that didnt bother me at all, i think theres something nice about it being more mundane
Thats pretty much it I think, now its Song Time babey
Overture(/Prologue?)
I paused within like the first 40 seconds and wrote a post because they just immediately hit you with fictional news reports about protests and police brutality and then they just keep going for like 3 minutes and Im just sitting there, mouth agape because its like. first of all, these made-up news reports were so similar to ones that Ive seen throughout the summer of 2020 when the George Floyd and related protests were happening that I had to do a double take and make sure that yes, this is from 2012 and literally nothing has changed. Alternatively, they were actively trying to portray an unrealistically horrifically tyrannical government police state only for the creators visions of a horrible dystopia coming true only 8 years after. I dont know which one is more upsetting and Id rather not think about it too much and find out
Second of all, Andrew Lloyd Webbers musicals tend to be pretty safe, like theyre known to be more spectacle and melodrama than substance, atleast the ones that Im familiar with and while I certainly wouldnt call this musical subtle or even particularly profound, I really wasnt expecting something this politically charged within the first minute. And just to be clear, Im not saying that JCS is bad because its not that subtle or profound, I really love this musical and think its really good it just isnt those qualities and thats fine
Heaven on Their Minds
I dont have a lot to say here, Judas is pretty weak. His voice lacks emotion and because of that it feels more like a pop-cover than a musical theater song and I wasnt a fan. His actual singing voice is good and he definitely gets better as the musical goes on but this was quite disappointing after that overture
Also, the camera was obviously focusing more on Judas at this point but Im pretty sure I saw Jesus and Simon having some kind of argument while his followers are all surrounding him and Judas is singing, I thought that was a neat detail
What's the Buzz/Strange Thing, Mystifying
Im gonna be real with you, saying those two songs are part of the same one doesnt seem right to me but thats what Genius and youtube do and I dont think I really have too much to say about Whats the Buzz on its own so yeah
Honestly, I feel like Whats the Buzz is just gonna make Jesus seem kinda weird and unlikable regardless of who plays him, the good thing about this version is hes not musically moaning and going "ohhhhhhhh~ Mary thats so nice~~" like he is in the german 70s version which i forced myself to listen to approximately 600 times
I have the same criticism of Judas as I did in the previous song, not enough emotion. Jesus isnt great here either, I feel like neither version after the 73 one really managed to capture his anger at his followers the same way, the delivery has been weaker and not as impactful and snappy in the 2000s and 2012 versions.
And I just wanted to say again that I like the setup of their hideout being a bunch of these little tents, I think its really fitting
Everything's Alright
Jesus and Judas are still not giving me enough and its just gonna be like this until the last supper I guess
I really like Mary's voice, theres something soft and kinda vulnerable about it and its nice to listen to
This Jesus Must Die
Musically this is probably my favorite song because of course it is, its the villain song
I like that in this production Caiaphas seemed to really struggle to reach that low tone lol. Like, he sounded great but his face looked like he was struggling, thats about as well as I can describe it. I also liked Annas, he seemed so smug and obnoxious and I liked his leitmotiv-melody-thingy that he would sing its very catchy
I really appreciated that white-grayish lighting, it reminded me of like sterile office building lighting and contrasts nicely with the more yellowish-golden lighting they had for Hosanna. They didnt do anything as crazy or evocative as the 2000s film but Im also not sure how feasible doing something like that on a live stage would be so whatever, I still enjoyed it and thought it looked really good
Hosanna
This might be my favorite song in terms of how they adapted it for this modern AU-thing. I love that Jesus seems a lot more involved in this which makes sense since its been reframed as a protest whereas Im pretty sure it was originally something closer to a parade or something similar. I like that hes singing along to the "Hosanna, heysanna" parts, I dont think he did that in the other versions and it makes him seem less detached and above-it-all which definetly makes him a lot more sympathetic in my eyes
I absolutely adore the way Jesus' verse is framed with him like, looking into a camera with his followers huddled around him idk I think its nice. Speaking of framing and stuff, I havent mentioned the camera work at all yet and its really good for the most part, I do have some complaints but they dont apply to this song so I shant mention them right now
Really the only negative thing I have to say is that usually when the crowd sings "Hey JC, JC, wont you die for me" they cut to Jesus horrified/weirded out reaction and I think its a real highlight but I dont think they directed him to make any kind of facial expression at that part or maybe the actor forgot, so that was a little disappointing ngl. Speaking of that verse, I have Genius open rn so I know which order the songs are in and apparently that verse/line wasnt originally in the song??? Bro thats such a good and simple line how did you not come up with that right away. I mean, better late than never but still
Simon Zelotes/Poor Jerusalem
Again, I dont really think these two songs make that much sense as a package deal but who am I to disagree with genius dot com
I really enjoy the contrast between the two songs and I think they did a great job highlighting it even further via the lighting, with the stage being bathed in this red light during Simon Zelotes and the lights changing to deep blue for Poor Jerusalem. The staging and choregraphy were also great, I like that Jesus is mostly down at the front of the stage during Simon Zelotes with his followers being sort of scattered behind him as they were doing this high energy group dance number while hes up at the back of the stage during Poor Jerusalem with his followers almost huddled together in front of him, it highlights that emotional dissonance between Jesus and his followers really well
I actually liked Jesus performance too, I think the actor did a good job conveying his discomfort and at this point I felt like he was a lot better at projecting quiet vulnerability than loud anger or anguish at this point
Pilate's Dream
I dont really have anything to say here, the song isnt great but its short so its like, fine whatever.
The main thing I have to say here is that I did not Get Pilate at all the past two times I watched this but at the end of this song he puts on a powdered wig and I went "ohhhhhhh hes like a judge" and that made me finally kinda understand what his deal is somehow. Idk man Im a little stupid sometimes
The Temple
I think the first half of this song is fine, but I definitely prefer both of the other versions. I feel like having the people at the temple crowd around a camera as theyre singing about all the sinful shit theyre offering just makes for more effective framing and does a better job at putting you in Jesus' shoes and making you feel uncomfortable
Im not a fan of those weird moving neon shapes they show on the screen during this bit. At the very start of this scene they have this colorful neon text saying stuff like SEX and NUDES and honestly, I think they shouldve had that for the entire song. Like, I get why they might not want to have a whole scene with the word SEX flashing in the background in bold neon letters but it wouldve fit more and been less weird than abstract moving lines. I also dont think they shouldve had any of the 'sinners' wear white just to make Jesus stand out a bit more, but thats a nitpick.
I absolutely ADORE the second half with the beggars though. I mentioned before that I have this fascination with portrayals non-consentual non-sexual touch and this scene, in all three versions Ive watched, really manages to tap into that in a way thats pretty personal and hard to describe. This scene in this version is probably my favorite but Im not sure I can properly describe why. It just feels so intense, the way everyones grabbing onto him and practically lifting him off the ground like some uncomfortable perversion of crowd surfing, I love that
I also like the detail at the start of the song where Judas picks a fight with the bodyguard guy while Jesus goes inside
Everything's Alright (Reprise)/I Don't Know How To Love Him
These two songs arent actually lumped together like some of the other ones, but i have nothing to say about the reprise on its own and its really short so
I really like I Don't Know How To Love Him because its the song that made me realize that Jesus being the son of god is actually pretty ambiguous in this musical which makes this story way better and more interesting imo. Like, I rewatched Jenny Nicholsons video on easter plays after watching the 70s movie and i realized that the focus on Jesus as the literal son of god and his resurrection actually takes away a lot of the impact this story could have as yknow, a story, when its being told by people who are actually christian. And Im not religious myself but I get why that is, for a christian audience the resurrection is the most important part because its essentially proof of Jesus being the son of god rather than 'just' a prophet and/or important spiritual leader, which is kind of the basis of the entire religion. I also feel like theres a tendency in media made by christians about Jesus (or Jesus-stand ins) to avoid portraying any flaws in its main character because thats your god, and you wouldnt wanna portray that guy in a bad light and while I understand that too, it makes for a far less interesting story for non-christian audiences
I dont really know where I was going with this ngl, in conclusion; the reason I enjoyed this play about Jesus Christ so much is probably that it wasnt made by christians
Also Im going back to this after being done writing the post, I dont like that they made Mary ungoth herself on stage like cmon man, let my gal be goth. The only good thing about that was that Mary has muscles and I liked looking at them now that the jacket wasnt in the way
Damned for All Time/Blood Money
Finally a package deal song that actually works as one
Im gonna honest, while I think this song is good I dont really. understand it? Even after watching three versions of this musical and looking at some of the genius annotations. I understand that Judas is feeling guilty about the betrayal and trying to justify himself (although thats only after reading the annotations lol I feel like the lyrics are really weird and contradictory ngl), I dont really get why hes betraying him? Like yeah, he doesnt like what Jesus is doing now and is afraid that he's putting himself and other jewish people in danger but on an emotional level I dont really get why he thought betraying him would be the best course of action. Maybe because he came to realize that he cant get Jesus off the path hes on but idk, that wouldve been nice to actually see that onstage
But enough about that, lets move on to the things I really liked. For example they added this small bit where Judas is walking over to Caiaphas and his guys and you can see him walk into their office building or whatever through the security cameras, I thought that was a really neat detail.
I also like the way Judas sings the very last line about the gardens of Gethsemane, his delivery was really good
The Last Supper
I already mentioned this a few times earlier but I thought Jesus' and Judas' performances were fine for the most part, they just lacked emotion and felt more like flat radio covers because of it, but this is the song where they get really good and even stay really good. Thats not. great. But you know what they say, better late than never
I also liked Judas like, poking Jesus basically when hes yelling at him and I liked Jesus shoving him. Maybe its just me but I feel like the physical contact is way more intense in this version, for lack of a better term, and Im a big fan of that I think that rules, I love watching guys touch each other
I also mentioned earlier that I like how the last supper is just happening at their camp because it makes it feel more mundane and the other non-apostle ensamble members still being there in the background really adds to that vibe as well. I also feel like it made everyone going to sleep after the supper make more sense. Like, in the previous two versions I thought it was kinda weird that they all just fell asleep at the table after that big dramatic shouting match and Jesus predictions but in this one it reads more like the apostles are all going "okay. i think i need to leave." and just crawling into their tents bc what else are they supposed to do
Another thing I liked was that Jesus was like, kinda freaking out and lashing out in this scene. Idk the way Ive been taught about these events made it seem like Jesus just calmly explained this shit to his guys at dinner because he knew gods plan or whatever, so I appreciated this more dramatic and more human version
Gethsemane
oughhhhhhh this song is really good but I dont have a lot to say about it because its mainly an emotional ballad where Jesus is just kinda standing there singing while engulfed in blue light and I already talked about how I like that the existence of god is never confirmed in this musical and why i think that makes the story way stronger
I did want to mention this lyric-change I noticed and didnt like. So originally there was this line towards the end of the song that was like "God thy will is hard/Something something card probably" idk the only reason I remembered that line is because when I heard it in the 73 version I immediately went on tumblr to make an untagged 1 note flop of a post that went like this: "Call my penis thy will the way its hard". But in this version the line is "God thy will is done/Take your only son" and I just dont like that
The Arrest
It took me watching this musical thrice to realize that the music for this song is literally just the music for the beggar part of The Temple, eventhough there were some very obvious visual parallels in the 2000s movie on top of the music being the same but hey, Im a little stupid sometimes and also better late than never
Similarly to the temple scene I just dont think its as effective when you dont have the camera surrounded by these people to both put you in Jesus' shoes and to evoke claustrophobia. The reframing of these guys being like news reporters rather than ? disillusioned followers? jewish people who dont agree with him? I think? is really good and makes a lot of sense. I just didnt like that they had those guards holding them all back I think they shouldve gone all out and just fucking grabbed him
Peter's Denial
This is a pretty short qnd unremarkable song and I dont have much to say, I liked both Peter and Mary (Mary has been consistantly really good throughout the entire musical I think i forgot to mention thst until now) and I weirdly enjoyed Peter being so unecessarily hostile towards that old lady
Pilate and Christ
This is the song I keep forgetting about even though its actually really good lmao
I am just baffled by the decision to have Pilate working out in this scene. Thats kind of it honestly, like whyd they do that. whyd they do that huh. Literally the only reason I can think of is like, they wanted to show off how dismissive he is of Jesus but. there are other ways
Anyway I really liked Pilates vocal performance though and I like this actor, he has a very legal-professional kinda face and tone of voice which makes sense if we're interpreting him as some kindof judge guy, great casting
King Herod's Song
I really love this song, its so catchy and fun and ended up liking the talk show setup for this scene more than I anticipated. I think the reason I was kinda wary of how they would approach this scene was because King Herod is 10000% gonna be the guy who gets played by James Corden when they inevitably decide to turn this into a proper movie (again) but since this is 2012 and also a stage production, James Corden is nowhere to be found and this song is still really enjoyable. Theres really nothing to dislike here, I liked the guy who played Herod, I liked the backup dancer women (although I will say that I prefer their outfits from the 2000s), I liked the way they used the screen to further this whole talkshow thing, I liked Jesus being spun around in that chair, its great
My one small complaint is that during that line where hes like "Cmon man, turn my water into wine" hes given this water bottle and then the water turns red and even with the camera focusing on the effect it just kinda looks pathetic, maybe they couldve done something with the screen instead like they did for the "walk across my swimming pool" line but idk
Judas' Death
Man I cant even properly describe how much I love both the song and execution of it, its so wonderfully visceral and tragic and oughhhhhhh
First of all, I adore Judas' performance hes so good here and he does a great job at letting the emotion bleed into his voice and make it sound like hes sobbing without his singing suffering from it like in the 2000s movie. Do I prefer the performance here over the 73 version? Ehhhhh I think Id need to directly compare the scenes before I feel comfortable making a statement about that and I dont feel like doing that right now.
The lighting is pretty simple here, its pretty much just red, but its really atmospheric and helps underscore Judas' anguish and you know me babey, I love watching this guy suffer
I was gonna write something about the suicide being done well before ending this section here but I just remembered something and immediately forgot what I was going to write, so heres the thing I remembered:
When I was watching the 73 movie and Judas committed suicide, I was like mouth-agape shocked, not because it happened suddenly or because it was edited in a particular way but because I didnt know he was going to kill himself. Ive had religious education as a class for the entirety of my school career, the only time we ever actually talked about the easter story in any kind of detail was when I was like 6 years old in the first grade. The teacher told us about all the most basic beats, Jesus had a bunch of buddys he took out to dinner one night, he tells them about how one of them will betray him, Judas betrays him for money, Jesus gets crucified and then Judas lives in disgrace and shame until the end of his days. What she didnt tell us is how those days end and like. I mean i guess she didnt lie did she
And after that the topic of The Easter Story never really came up and also I thought religious education was the most boring and pointless shit on earth so I never bothered looking into any of it at any other point in my life and thats how I managed to avoid spoilers for this 2000 year old story
I was gonna end the section here but I just remembered something else that I wanted to share, I promise this is thematically relevant
A few days after I watched the 2000s film I thought to myself "hey, this is a popular musical that was originally english but since its been around for like 50 years I wonder if theyve since made a german version" so I looked it up, found the german wikipedia page and yes, theres a german version that came out on vinyl in the 70s but its unfortunately missing a song (two if we're counting Then We Are Decided as well but that one was added for the movie and not originally in the musical). Since Im already on wikipedia I decide to just read the entire article and I find out that orthodox christians didnt like the musical because it paints Judas The Traitor in a sympathetic light and I do a bit of a double take because Im like. I thought Judas was generally seen as sympathetic??? Because again, the only time i was ever taught about this story in any detail was when I was 6 in first grade religious education class and I havent really thought about it since. I only vaguely remember that class but Im pretty sure the way my teacher explained the apostles was that they were like Jesus' closest buddies and when I heard that Judas ended up betraying his good friend Jesus I was really sad and felt really sorry for him ? I dont remember my exact emotions or thoughts but it was either "I really love my friends and one of them died I'd be so upset even if it was my fault they died" or "I would never rat my friends out and cause them to be killed for no reason so he mustve had a really good reason we're just not being told about" or a combination of those and then I never paid attention to christianity ever again so I just never changed my thinking
So yeah, youre looking at a lifelong Judas Iscariot apologist Im so glad to finally be reunited with my fellow men in my natural habitat which is the Jesus Christ Superstar Fandom
Trial Before Pilate
Funfact, someone on youtube uploaded the entire JCS german soundtrack and there they called it "Pilate's Interrogation (39 lashes included)" and idk I think thats mildly amusing
I gotta say this is definitely a little bit disappointing after the 2000s version which had that absolutely mental illness inducing (affectionate) part where every time hes meant to get whipped one of the people in the crowd runs up to him and strikes him and leaves a bunch of blood on his body until hes all wet n grimy from it. Its alright but idk it feels a bit less intense physically and Im not just talking about the lashings, Im also talking about Pilates coming down to Jesus at the very end and being like "Im holding your life in my hands". I dont remember what the 2000s movie did here but I know in the 70s movie hes actually cradling him in his arms and it makes this bit hit way harder, but in this version hes just kinda kneeling next to him like hes the gym teacher and Jesus is the unathletic kid who just somehow sprinted like 50 meters in order to not come in last for the race around the local playground theyre doing for PE and embarass himself in front of the class and is laying on the ground panting afterwars and feels like hes going to die.
While I dont think its as effective as it could be, those faceless silhoutte people standing outside that fence arguing with Pilate are decently menacing and Ive already talked about black as the color of the people involved in Jesus death and how you could see this as The Masses or The Public or whatever also being complicit in his death in some way. Also I think I remember seeing some red garments in that crowd as well which I also appreciate
Also, the makeup for his bloody back was really good
Superstar
Ive said it before I'll say it again, why wont they let my guy wear white for this part? Was that the tradeoff for having him look all cool as he descends down with the stagelights? Is this their attempt to placate those christians who disliked Judas being sympathetic so much they banned the musical in Belarus?
Anyway, I enjoyed it well enough despite that and I think it executed the concept of Jesus carrying his cross being filmed and broadcasted a lot better than the 2000s movie, simply by not having the guys doing the filming be Judas' guys and having them as well as the angels. That being said, the way this was filmed or the way this was cut together or maybe it was a combination of both, just made this really confusing and disorienting to watch. The camerawork is really good for most of this production so I have absolutely no idea whats going on here but its kinda bad ngl. And whenever there was a wideshot you could see that Judas and the angels were dancing and taking up most of the stage and then on the left corner there was Jesus and the people filming him all huddled together and I honestly cant imagine it looking that great on stage either but I guess I wasnt there so I may never know for sure
The Crucifixion
I cant adequately describe what I felt when I realized they were going to crucify him on the lighting fixture so I'll just say I think its sick as hell and move on
This is less of a song and more of a short monologue but I still felt like I had to talk about it because the actor who plays Jesus is absolutely amazing, I was a bit worried if he could pull this off at the start because he was kinda weak there, but he crushed it. I was also a bit worried that he wouldnt be all wet with blood since he already got lashed and was pretty dry at that point but then he bleed a bunch from his head wounds from the crown of thorns and I was satisfied. And the modern crown of thorns was a crown of barbed wire I love that
Thats it I think its about to be midnight and I spent like 2 days writing this and my head is just mush. Sorry if the last few segments seemed a bit disorganized, my head is just mush. I actually had a few more thoughts I was gonna put in this conclusion-thingy but my head is just mush so I'll just say this gets an 8/10 from me. I gave both of the previous versions a solid 7/10 because while I still thoroughly enjoyed them in their weird quirks and think theyre kind of charming in their occasional bouts of kinda bizarre shit on top of being good, this one felt more competent and like it had a stronger vision behind it. Thats it, thank you for reading my very long post

my tears ricochet | E. Stabler x O. Benson
Elliot Stabler x Olivia Benson ♡ 942 ♡ Ao3
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4
Tumblr media
“We gather here, we line up Weepin' in a sunlit room, and If I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too Even on my worst day, did I deserve, babe All the hell you gave me? 'Cause I loved you, I swear I loved you 'Til my dying day.”
Her brain feels like it’s on fire as she stands in front of him for the first time in 10 years. He’s here; he’s back.
And his wife has just been the victim of a car bombing.
The silence is loud as they stare at each other. She wants to hug him, to hit him, to yell and cry and scream because it wasn't fair then, and it certainly isn't fair now, but she can't do anything but stand there and look at him.
“They tried to kill her.” He’s the first to break the silence, shifting his gaze to the ambulance behind her. “They tried to kill Kathy.
“Go,” Her voice finally obeys her. “I’ll meet you at the hospital.”
She can't keep her head on straight as she drives behind the ambulance. She hears Fin talking to her through her car speaker, but she's too out of it to register anything he's saying. He hangs up eventually, and she's alone in the too-loud silence again.
10 years. 10 fucking years. Where has he been all this time? New York? Somewhere else? Why is he only showing up now? The questions race through her mind faster than any of the traffic lights that flash by outside. What will happen now that he’s here? Is he staying? Is he leaving again? Can she handle him leaving again, now that she knows he's been here?
She eventually stops her car in the hospital parking lot and watches as they unload Kathy from the ambulance. They wheel her into the building, and Elliot stays with his wife, holding her hand and massaging her shoulder. It's the comfort Olivia wanted from him in 2013, and now she's watching him give it to someone else.
She doesn't enter the building. It feels like an invasion of Elliot and Kathy's privacy somehow, if she goes in. She's not close to them like that, not anymore.
She sees Kathy in her head. The Kathy from 15 years ago, flatlining in the back of an ambulance with a brace around her neck and a baby on her chest. She can still smell the blood.
"-iv. Liv?" The voice from behind her pulls her out of her thoughts, and she turns around to face her sergeant.
"You okay?" He says, too tentative and too careful. A stark contrast from how he'd been when he called her earlier that evening.
She doesn't answer his question.
"I followed Elliot here. I barely talked to him. Kathy just went into surgery. How did this happen? Why?" She gestures vaguely toward the ambulance, tries not to let her voice reveal too much of how she's feeling about the situation.
Fin is quick to reassure her, and she's grateful for it. "Rollins is at the scene. A uni told her it was a rental car parked on the street. Kathy went to get in, and the bomb went off. Arson thinks it misfired and threw her clear." He speaks slowly, watches her for her reactions.
Sometimes she thinks he knows her too well, and its times like this when she's proven to be correct.
"A rental car, what... where are they in from?"
"They've been living in Italy, Elliot had to come in for some type of a task force meeting, and he and Kathy decided to make it a trip,"
Italy. 4000 miles across the Ocean. 10 years.
"He just called me out of nowhere and told me he was coming," Fin continues. "I may have spoken about your award. I thought enough time had gone down between you two."
She ignores the guilt starting to claw at the inside at of her stomach, diverts the conversation. "Okay, a task force? Who's he working for?"
"NYPD. He's the international liaison in Rome.
"Since when?" If he was still here in 2013, if he was here during Lewis then–
Fin knows what she's referring to. He doesn't answer solely because they're thinking the same thing. "Look, this is all I know. You're gonna have to ask him."
She turns around at the footsteps behind her, takes in the disheveled man walking towards them. He looks older than the last time she saw him, the bags under his eyes darker, his shoulders slouching, his hair shorter than she remembers. But his face is the same; the nose and the eyes, the way he walks.
He hugs Fin first, who tells him that he's there for him, and then turns to her.
"How's Kathy?" Is the only thing she can think to say.
"They're still working on her... burns, concussion, fractured pelvis," he sighs, puts his detectives mask on, and turns back to Fin. "What do we know?"
Fin gives him the rundown, and for a fraction of second Olivia feels like she back with the old squad talking about a case before reality comes back to her and there's a mountain of distance between her and her old partner.
"She shouldn't have even been driving... I got a call. I slipped away. I gave her the keys.... She was worried we were gonna be late for your award. I meant to give you a call–"
"–It's okay, Elliot, please." she stops him, and her voice sounds shaky.
"Tell me she's gonna be okay." His eyes are filled with tears, and she has to be careful about her next words because if his tears fall then so will hers.
"Kathy's a fighter, you know that."
She stays outside when his kids arrive, tells them that she's there for them if they need anything, and stays outside as the family she's no longer a part of walks upstairs.

RSC Wars of the Roses
SO. i'm on vacation in stratford right now and i got to see the rsc production of wars of the roses live on closing night and hooooooly shit holy shit. tldr: play good and i'm fucking insane. i have many thoughts.
so it was basically henry vi part 3 but with a liiiittle bit of part 2 tacked on at the beginning. we open on york arriving with his army to fuck shit up and ultimately claim the throne over the somerset issue and then go until the end of part 3
they used cameras and projections in a really cool way, there was this translucent curtain kind of thing where video was projected at different points. sometimes it was a scene going on backstage (like henry conferring with his men before confronting york in the throne room), sometimes something happening onstage but out of the audience's view (rutland cowering behind a set piece before he was killed), sometimes a close-up of something going on onstage (often when characters were killing or dying), sometimes a separately filmed scene of something related (richard killing clifford while other characters talked about it). during tewksbury edward iv and margaret's monologues were filmed like speeches bieng projected to the whole battlefield. and sometimes they would show other things, like still shots of york as his sons found out he was dead.
AND at one point in the son who killed father/father who killed son scene henry put his hand on the back of the cameraman who was filming and i don't know if that means anything but it made me kind of crazy
THE CAST WAS ALL AMAZING. mark quartley had essentially my dream henry vi vibe i wanted to hug him so much in every scene he was in. his mannerisms were so nervous and uncomfortable and sometimes he would just turn away from the conversation going on and look out at the audience like he was so conflicted and didn't know what he was doing. he made me so fucking sad and that's all i want from my poor little meow meow english monarch
ARTHUR HUGHES RICHARD. HOLY SHIT. first of all he actually has radial dysplasia of his arm which is cool, i really appreciate the casting of a disabled actor in that role. and his energy was fucking FANTASTIC. my controversial take is that i like 3h6 richard more than r3 richard as a character and this prod was absolutely an example of why. he's so scrappy and high-energy and he really feels so YOUNG. and then about a third of the way into the play he started revealing his Evil Intentions and had such a fantastic rapport with the audience, there were tons of great little nod and wink moments when we were privy to his reactions to things while the characters onstage weren't. he was soooo likeable in that evil way, i may have bad taste but he's my best friend. i'm like actively angry i won't be around to see him in r3.
minnie gale was also a great margaret! she was a little bit more overtly emotional than i've seen the role played before, in the "i here divorce myself" scene she seemed more genuinely grief-stricken than angry. she upset me so much in prince edward's death scene with her sheer desperation
honestly there wasn't a weak link for me! oliver alvin-wilson had amazing presence as york and ashley d gayle was the perfect horrible little slut (affectionate) as edward but when his emotionality came out it was. h.
WHAT THEY DID WITH THE PAPER CROWN. PAIN AND AGONY. in 1.2 rutland was wearing this paper crown as he played around with his dad and his brothers and then it got left behind onstage as he ran to escape when the army came in. and then. well. that was the paper crown they put on york's head CHECK OUT HOW HARD I CAN CRY
when margaret was waiting for york to speak in that scene she FULLY DID THIS POSE ON THE FLOOR. HELP ME
Tumblr media
the throne was part of the set that stayed onstage the whole time and york died clinging onto it which mentalled my illnesses
richard DID cry when he heard that york was dead which made "i cannot weep" later in that scene so much more insanity-inducing. he does feel intensely he's just trying to pretend he's not grieving. god i think about the richard and york relationship it makes me so upset HE LOVED HIS DAD AND HIS DAD LOVED HIM
when margaret told henry to "unsheathe your sword" so he could knight prince edward he wasn't wearing a sword so margaret actually had to hand him one. and then he actually dropped the word and just touched his son on the shoulders instead and hugged him. henry :(((((((
king louis and bona were so french (derogatory). they were the comic relief and they just had the stupidest most over-the-top accents and gestures and costumes. watching british/french hostility in action and eating popcorn
when the watchman talked about "lord hastings, the king's chiefest friend" he coughed and did a suggestive voice. a win for bi edward truthers. also when he got captured in that scene he was shirtless and the screen projections had showed him thotting it up with three women. slut
they cut the scene where edward is trying to persuade the mayor to let him into york but there WAS a scene where he was debating with richard and hastings if he should claim his crown or just his dukedom and at one point he screamed "I CAN'T I CAN'T I CAN'T" and just. fully broke down. was not expecting edward to hurt me like that but oh god
the henry vi death scene went OFF and hurt me infinitely as usual. however my one gripe was that they cut "for this amongst the rest was i ordained" which is one of my favourite richard lines EVER. it fucks so hard why would you do that. but GOD the killing of henry was so violent and took so long, most of the onstage deaths didn't have fake blood (people had a lot of blood on their faces but it didn't appear during stage-combat) but then henry was soaked in blood as richard stabbed him over and over and over. and the banger of all bangers speech went off as usual.
the yorkists came onstage and started celebrating and dancing as richard was still standing over henry's body which was such a good representation of where richard is at going into r3, still stuck in war and violence mode while the world around him has moved on to peace and celebrations. and just the reminder that it's all only possible because of henry's death
they did the classic "end on richard holding the baby SO threateningly" thing which. vibes. and the last image was the camera close on his face as he turned toward the audience before it cut to black
ALSO i meet rosie sheehy who was king john in the recent rsc prod! i got to talking to some people sitting next to me about king john and it turned out she was in the audience so they offered to introduce me. she was super super nice (and told me that apparently eating a raw egg on stage every night wasn't that bad). she'll be anne in the rsc r3 which once again i would fucking kill to watch now
GOD WHY CAN I NOT SIMPLY LIVE AT THE RSC FOREVER AND EVER THAT IS MY QUESTION
